What's Behind Door #1 - DM Donna Thursday April 19th, 2007 4:27:12 AM
The Chosen consult with each other and compare strategies...then Winterglade pushes the double stone doors wide open (the doors open into the new room revealed.)
This room is a vast circular chamber with a domed ceiling, about 100 feet in diameter, with the ceiling reaching a good 40 feet high at its uppermost point. In the center, sits a circular stone platform some 30 feet in radius. It is surrounded by a moat filled with viscous black liquid that smells about as nasty as it looks.
The moat is 20 feet across and separates the center platform from the outer edge of the room which is comprised of a 50 foot wide ring of smooth finished stone. The walls are lined with torches that have long ago burned out. An ornate throne (well, for wemics, it would be a throne, as it is an ornately carved chaise-like piece of furniture) sits atop the central platform and a body appears to be positioned on the throne. It doesn't move...yet.
All the characters entering the room may make a Search check vs DC20; those who make the check Highlight to display spoiler: { Your successful search reveals a trigger / lever to one side of the double doors. Anyone attempting to move the lever must make a Strength check versus DC15 to successfully push it up (as it is now in the "down" position.)}
Flat-top (Ac21/101hp) d20+3=18 Thursday April 19th, 2007 4:33:29 AM "Don't worru Winterglade, I have your back! Just let me know what's behind the Door!" he wishpers to Glade.
When Glade tellFlat-top that the door is open. That when Flat-top will turns and enters the Room (Last to enter), "Wow! What a Tomb" as he look around, "what that Black stuff in the circle??"
But the center stay's near the door. (Protecting the rear of the party.)
OOC: Check 18 miss seeing the lever.

Brahmah looks around and is actually bored in about a minute with this room. "Don't touch the ooz."
He looks at the ooze and tries to figure out if its tar, like what is used in ship repairs or if its one of those ooze monsters he use to hear about.
Then he notices the body. "Ah. Not good." He whispers the next words. "I think the Queen hasn't been out much." He points to the corpse on the throne dias.

Circular Motion - DM Donna Friday April 20th, 2007 3:55:41 AM
The Chosen open the doors to the circular room beyond and find it very dark and silent.
Other than being black, very stinky and kind of viscous-looking, Brahmah can't tell much about the substance within the moat. He figures he'll have to either touch it or find something to poke into the liquid to test its resistance, etc.
Tactics continue to be discussed.
DM OOC: I'm emailing the players a diagram to give them a very rough idea of the room layout.
Flat-top (AC 21/ 101HP) d20+2=19 Friday April 20th, 2007 6:58:43 AM
Flat-top enters the room, hit his chest (for some light) where his tatoo id etche. "oK! Now we have some light!"
He look around (Serching 19) "Captain could that be old blood?? A whole lot of Blood?? like a lot of seekers of the Black Sword?? or alot of other intruders?? BLOOD?" And finaly "How are we going to cross that Moat??"

The minotaur agrees with Zeoll and grabs two benches. He says quietly, "I'm willing to bet that the sword, if its still her, is at the bottom of that ooze junk." He looks at is with disgust. "No wonder it hasn't been found." Then he looks at the body. "Chances are we will have to do a riddle thing, or fight it or both or neither. We could just ask her for the sword. Where's Alemi when you need him?" He says, thinking about the ooze, the mummy rot and how it would be nice to have the God of healing and cures here.
"Heyoo, stay away from the black goo."
He moves into the hall way where the mummy fight took place, casts his last Alarm spell at the closest intersection of halls to the doors of the chamber and moves back to the room.

Gecktar enters the last room and tries to discern what is in the center of the room. He tries to identify the sword near the throne.
Zeoll's 12-Step Plan Friday April 20th, 2007 9:07:07 PM
Zeoll notes that so far there has been no threat from the body or the moat. "I suggest that we stay herre nearr the doorr and avoid the moat and body forr now. Let's tackle the coming enemy firrst, then the moat."
The liontaur suggests the following plan:
1) Four Chosen hide in the four mummy niches in the Outer Room. Zeoll suggests Toros, Mosushi, Brahmah, and himself.
2) The Chosen also set up the Tapestry in the Outer Room, away from the niches. They put one or two mummy bodies behind the Tapestry. Another mummy body is propped on a bench about ten feet in front of Zeoll's niche -- maybe it will seem like the sound of Zeoll's casting is coming from that body (with help from Ghost Sounds) -- especially if Mosushi is moving its hands with the Mage Hand.
[Aside: Zeoll cannot help chuckling a little at the idea of setting up the mummy corpses and using Mage Hand to make them move. But he cautions his friends not to laugh when the enemy is here.]
3) The rest of the Chosen wait in the Moat Room. The doors are 95% closed, and braced that way with the benches. That way Glade and Gecktar can peek out and cast spells with 90% cover if need be. Zeoll gives them his mirror so they can peek without being exposed. Flat-top stays with them in case there is trouble from inside the room.
4) When the second Alarm goes off, the Toros casts Ghost Sound, Ventriloqism, and some illusion. The illusion is that the original walls are in place so that no one can see that the Taurs are in the mummy niches. The ghost sound and ventriloquism are to provide cover so that when Zeoll casts his spells, it is very hard to tell where the real spell casting is coming from. The ventriloquism makes the sound of spell casting from behind the curtain.
5) Mosushi uses Mage Hand to make the curtains rustle just a little. Also to make the mummy corpse's hands move if the enemy pushes aside the curtain. Maybe he can also modify the illusion to enhance the bluff? Like maybe the mummy's eyes can glow?
6) Hopefully this will get Zeoll enough time to cast four Charm Persons and a Suggestion. Meanwhile, Glade and Gecktar are buffing Flat-top and themselves, and maybe casting Summons.
7) Zeoll dashes out of the niche and calls out, "Help! Help, my frriends! Please follow me and help! My life is in dangerr!" That's the Suggstion spell. Then he runs out. Hopefully three to five of the enemy will follow him. He will flee all the way out of the pyramid. Hopefully if his way is blocked, he can get by on the walls/ceiling.
8) Maybe while Zeoll is jumping out and shouting, Glade, Flat-top and Gecktar can be moving the benches and opening the door. This will make Domi's own racket. Maybe Zeoll will shout, "The queen awakens! Help! She has the sworrd! Help, my frriends! Follow me!" This may get the charmed more interested in helping Zeoll, and the non-charmed more interested in seeing the sword. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! NO ATTACKS ON THE ENEMY UNTIL STEP NINE!!!
9) The rest of the Chosen ready attacks to cast on the enemy AFTER the charmed ones follow Zeoll. The Chosen defeat the ones who stay behind. Zeoll urges that the enemy not be killed if possible, since shedding our brothers' blood is the last thing we need. But we will kill those we have to, of course. With any luck we'll have surprise. Maybe at this stage, Bramah can step out behind the charmed ones to block the non-charmed inside the room, and then Mosushi can let loose with the fireball.
10) Zeoll leads his charmed friends away. Outside the pyramid he sucks them dry of any info he can get. The Charms will last less than a day, so he can't keep them charmed indefinately. Then he slips away and hides at the top of the pyramid.
11) The rest of the Chosen all have to be very alert, because the charmed ones may end up coming back to attack you!
12) After all the enemy are taken care of, Zeoll rejoins the Chosen and we all take care of the Moat Room and the object of the Quest.
That's the plan! Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?
Zeoll also asks Mosushi to try not to damage the beautiful mural of Wemic Isle that is on the floor. It is a true work of art, possible valuable if the Chosen can find a way to move or sell it, and a crime to damage anyway if it can be avoided. Maybe he can center his fireball 21 feet up so that it ends a foot off the ground.
[OOC: The worst part of the plan is that Zeoll will miss the big fight! That's maybe a week or two or three of not posting for Zeoll. Oh well. But I think it is worth it if we can divide the enemy and fight only half of them at a time.]
Winterglade Saturday April 21st, 2007 2:13:45 AM
"That is one devious plan. Unfortunately, Winterglade won't be contributing much to the fight. He has just one enlarging spell left and one protective magic. After that it's going to be just healing from the wands from him."
"Winterglade still thinks we should send someone invisible up front to see what is coming at us. Come, Mosushi. Borrow the rod from Captain and give Winterglade an Extended Invisibility. He is going up the corridor to take a look."
Assuming Winterglade receives the spell, he will make a tiny mark of anvil on his chest [activating Protective Ward on himself] and start moving in the direction the party is expecting the threat to come from. He leaves both party's wands of healing behind him, just in case.
[The invisibility would last about 14 minutes, yes? My hope is it would be enough time to bump into whatever is coming our way. He is progressing slowly Taking10 on Move Silently and Listen. His shield is stored so that its armor check penalty doesn't apply. Once he hears or sees somebody he is going to observe them for a short time (about a minute), preferably from cover, i.e. from behind a corner, and then head back to the party. If Invisibility expires and he haven't bumped into anything he will head back.]
[Marcin] Saturday April 21st, 2007 2:16:54 AM
[Umm, actually make it Take10 on Move Silently only and roll Listen normally.]
Brahmah Sunday April 22nd, 2007 9:36:55 AM
"Okay Glade, here." Handing the rod to him so that he can make a extended invisibility. (second charge expended for the day) "Take it with you just in case you need to cast again. But spare the last charge if at all possible."

(DM OOC to Brahmah: when/where was that other Alarm spell cast? I only remember one being cast on the area that led into the uppermost level of the ziggurat.)

"Ah, but the rod will stay behind. Winterglade doesn't have means to make himself invisible. He was counting on Mosushi for that."
The centaur hands the rod to Mosushi, unstraps his shield, and shakes his mane, preparing mentally for the scouting run. His fingers are drumming on his chest betraying nervousness.
"Ready when you are, Mosushi."
Brahmah Monday April 23rd, 2007 9:28:22 AM
The Captain looks on, curious of Glade's skills in this department. "Don't move beyond the first intersection without stating the password 'Kayleb'. My mental alarm will go off if you don't and we will think it is an enemy and we don't want that mistake."
Mosushi Monday April 23rd, 2007 10:08:09 AM

Gecktar Monday April 23rd, 2007 3:21:13 PM 3Zeoll you got good ideas but I think there are too many uncertainty. Imagine they could resist the spells you cast... You will be totally exposed..."

Zeoll Monday April 23rd, 2007 5:51:29 PM
Zeoll wishes Glade luck and tells him to come back at the first sign of trouble.
Zeoll reassures his friend, Gecktar. "It's a DC20 Will save, and I won't tarrget any obvious casterrs. I bet I get at least two fighterr types. Don't worrry about me, frriend!"
"Look, in the last battle, I lurrked on the ceiling and then crrept arround invisibly. I'm not a warrriorr. I'm not a battlemage. This gives me a chance to be herroic, too, forr once. Please let me take the rrisk!"
"Besides, I can tell if my tarrget fails a save. I won't do it unless I snarre two at least."
"Plus rrememberr my trrump carrd. They corrrupted me once beforre. I can convince them that I still am a bad guy. That's an edge we should use."
Zeoll still thinks his plan is worth a try. He looks to the Captain of the Chosen for approval. Zeoll has no Invisibility Sphere. He has one Invisibility, but he was planning to use the slot for a Suggestion.
Toros Monday April 23rd, 2007 8:43:44 PM
"This sounds like a sound plan, Zeoll I know how you can do wonders!"
"Thanks Mosushi. Guess Glade better go. Good luck to you Glade!"
Toros also turns to Brahmah and other Chosen to get their final ideas.
Just Before Winterglade Goes for A Walk... DM Donna Tuesday April 24th, 2007 2:18:56 AM
Details: only one of the mummies is still intact enough to use as a (more or less) whole mannequin--the other three are piles of bone bits and dust.
Now that Mosushi has cast the Extended Invisibility spell on Winterglade, Winterglade has fifteen minutes to do his invisible scouting.
And Brahmah still hasn't definitively said "yes" to Zeoll's 12 steps (unless the DM--in her work-induced insanity--has missed that in his posts, too..?)
Winterglade Tuesday April 24th, 2007 5:13:21 AM
"Yes, you all agree on something while Winterglade is away. Get ready to act quick if you hear him running back."
Winterglade does not really know how far away are the intruders, but hopes that his knowledge of the route will allow him to reach them before the Invisibility runs out.
He will advance (bypassing Captain's Alarm with the password) starting to move silently after about two minutes. He is not very good at it [Take10 for a total of 12] but hopes that he is going to catch sound and/or light before he is noticed and that distance between him and the other group will act in his favor [please roll Listen and Spot checks for me, both are at +4. Boy do we need a rogue].
Once he becomes aware that the opponents are close to him he will start to peek from behind a corner (if there is one), and, after observing them for about a minute or so, will try to quietly come back. If he is discovered he will run back to the party.
Flat-top d20+7=14 Tuesday April 24th, 2007 7:02:27 AM

"How long does this immunity to Fireball last. I'm afraid it might have been wasted."
"All good ideas as always Zeoll, with one minor problem... we don't know WHEN or IF that body will wake. It may end up being a bad situation. Charmed or not, I think the enemy may momentarily ally with us anyway if she wakes. OR! If it is Vargas, she may ally with Dark One's Lackies and make our day REALLY bad. She may even HAND Vargas the sword."
"So, is anyone going to touch the ooze?" He smiles. Then a thought occurs to him.
"Hey, if this ooze is harmless, perhaps we can use it as a type of barrier in the hall beyond the doors."
"Speaking of barriers, by chance, did anyone prepare a dimesional anchor or something to keep Vargas from teleporting and escaping once he has his hands on the sword?"
(Cayzle, I seem to remember something about the mummies falling to dust and the cubbies in which they burst from aren't large enough to hide Chosen. Did I miss an errata to a post?)

Zeoll Tuesday April 24th, 2007 12:36:29 PM
[OOC to Brahmah -- Donna said a Taur could squeeze into a mummy niche if needed. I figured we could use the squeezing rules:
Squeezing In some cases, you may have to squeeze into or through an area that isn't as wide as the space you take up. You can squeeze through or into a space that is at least half as wide as your normal space. Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares, and while squeezed in a narrow space you take a -4 penalty on attack rolls and a -4 penalty to AC.
Donna also said that one mummy was intact enough to use as a mannequin!]
==========
Zeoll understands Brahmah's hesitation. "On one hand, the Queen may awaken at the worrst possible time, so we should tackle that now. On the otherr hand, the enemy coming frrom behind may hit us when afterr we arre weakened by the Queen, orr even as we arre fighting the Queen. It is a gamble eitherr way."
"I think it is betterr to let the Queen lie and hope she does not awaken. But that decision is yourrs, Captain Brrahmah."
Gecktar Tuesday April 24th, 2007 4:14:03 PM "If we are going to ambush those following us, I think it's better to close the door and let everything as it is in this room. The figt should take place in the chamber of the mummies."
"I fear that if we shed blood in the Queen's chamber she may wake up from her sleep..."
Zeoll Tuesday April 24th, 2007 6:16:59 PM
"But we can only hide fourr people in the mummy chamberr. The other thrree can wait in the Queen's chamberr and then dash out once the fight starrts."
Mosushi Tuesday April 24th, 2007 7:49:37 PM
"I'll wait in the room with the Queen, provided I have company. I think we can agree she would need a fireball, yes?"
Toros (AC 23, hp 61/70) Tuesday April 24th, 2007 10:33:44 PM
"Ok, so what should I do now according to the plan" asks Toros, ready to take action according to suggestion...
Zeoll Tuesday April 24th, 2007 10:37:30 PM
"Mosushi, I need you to use Mage Hand on the mummequin and the currtain, and to firreball the enemy when Brrahmah steps into theirr midst afterr I flee. I was hoping you'd hide in a niche, and Glade, Gecktarr, and Flat-top would wait behind the doorr. I need Torros to cast the illusion and Brrahmah to stand in the doorrway afterr I lead the charrmed ones out."
"Can you cast me a Mage Hand when the time comes?"
"Torros, you hide in a niche, and when we get the worrd frrom Glade or Brrahmah, you cast Ventrriloquism, Ghost Sound, and your illusion."
"The ventriloquism will make it seem like someone is casting from behind the currtain. The ghost sound will mask my own casting. The illusion will make it seem like the wall is whole, so that us fourr squeezed in the niches will be hidden. Yourr illusion will also make the mummequin's eyes glow. hopefully to distrract frrom me casting."
Zeoll sets up the curtain, the bench with the mummequin, and squeezes himself into his niche.
Still Prepping - DM Donna Wednesday April 25th, 2007 3:26:38 AM
The niches will certainly qualify as "squeezing" for the live Taurs who want to use the spaces.
So far, only ten minutes (max) of the Protection spell have been used.
The ooze in the "moat" seems to fascinate Brahmah...but who will be foolish--er, ah...I mean, brave--enough to touch it (or even dive in..?)
So...the plan seems to be try to have Zeoll use Charm & Suggestion, then have Brahmah be "bait" and then Fireball Vargus' party..?

For Winterglade's Eyes Only - DM Donna d20=1 Wednesday April 25th, 2007 3:50:13 AM
Winterglade...Highlight to display spoiler: {Winterglade travels back, going up one flight of steps and emerging into the room just as he hears the clatter/thud of approaching hooves. Into the room comes six Taurs.
The first is a powerfully built minotaur with close cropped white hair. He wears black clothes and his armor is also black although it appears to weep a green gangrenous slime, as do his helm and shield.
The next is a rather scuffy-looking male wemic with shaggy dark blonde hair and snaggled teeth wearing studded leather armor and a dark green (almost black) cloak. He practically slinks into the room.
Those two are followed into the room by a pair of centaur females who appear to be reversed-mirror-images of each other: one is blonde with white flanks and is wearing a black cloak, while the other is raven-haired with black flanks and wearing a white cloak. Their faces and blue eyes are otherwise identical. (Think of them as the "Betty and Veronica" of the centaur race...that is, if you know anything at all about Archie Comics. ;D)
Following the twin centaurs is a wemic--a russett-haired female wearing half-plate armor, bearing a large shield and a mace...and wearing the unholy symbol of Marteus.
Last, but not least, is another minotaur...a dark brown minotaur with iron rings in both ears and his nose; wearing a breastplate, and carrying a shield and a bastard sword.
The entire party looks as though they've survived a fight with...something, as they all have that look most adventurers get when they've just gotten finished healing themselves up from having a combat with a particularly tough foe.
The blonde centaur speaks up:
"I still can't believe you were stupid enough to hit poor Hardwen with that Acid Arrow, Bilia! You killed him instantly!"
"Shut up, Jilia!" the raven-maned centaur snaps. "We wouldn't have had to fight those stupid statues if Thalis or Lynka had told us the answer to their challenge!"
"Blame Lynka." the male wemic pipes up. "I don't read at all."
"I would have been able to heal up Hardwen if Ivanius hadn't blocked my way." the female wemic defends herself. The brown minotaur just grunts.
"Shut up, all of you!" snaps the black-armored minotaur. "We want to take those goody-two-hooves by surprise!"
It appears that nobody in this party heard Winterglade at all--mostly because of the 1 I rolled for their Listen check...not even Thalis' skill at Listening was good enough to overcome the 12 Winterglade rolled for Moving Silently.}

Maybe even -5 to their Listen because they are distracted by an argument]. If Winterglade manages to come back undetected, good. If he is heard he will drop into an all-out run. Imminent Arrival - DM Donna d20=7 Thursday April 26th, 2007 3:42:36 AM
The Chosen decide to stick to Zeoll's proposed plan. OOC: I will emailing the PC's a diagram of the layout of the two rooms--please indicate where each PC (and Heyoo) will be.
Winterglade suddenly appears in the entrance to the map room (that's the room with the two Webs in it). He got back to the rest of the group just in time, it seems.
Note to Brahmah: your Immunity to Fireball is now about 25 minutes old, max.
Flat-top sees his coin land flat upon the black, stinky stuff in the moat. It seems to stay there for a moment before sinking into the liquid. Nothing appeared to happen to the coin other than it sinking from sight.
The centaur finds that probing for the bottom of the moat with a sword confirms that the blade doesn't hit bottom. Drawing the sword out of the black ooze leaves the blade thickly coated with the evil-smelling brew.
If Flat-top really, really wants his gold coin back, he'll have to go diving for it...and he still can't tell how deep the moat is.
Brahmah (Helm of Languages) [AC 22+4, HPS 97/105, Immune to Fireball 70 mins, Pro from Acid, Shield] Heyoo (AC 16, hps 44/45) d20+2=12 d20-2=5 d20-2=13 Thursday April 26th, 2007 5:12:03 AM
"Glade, whats up? What did you see?" Whispers the Captain. Seeing the look in Glades eyes, its almost obvious to Brahmah whatever is moving up the hall isn't something the Chosen needed just now.
"Positions everyone! Now! Lights out. We're going with Zeoll's 12 Step Program." He says in a croaking whisper.
"Heyoo, move to the rear of the chamber and stay out of sight. Find a place to hide and huddle into a ball. Stay in a dark spot. If there is debris there, us it as cover." (Hide 12)
Brahmah drinks a Shield Philter and prepares. (standard action) He moves to the niche furtherest from the door on the right. He shimmies as far into the niche as possible, covering himse;f in dirt rags and other refuse the mummies left behind. (Hide 5, using Hero point to improve roll, Hide 13)(move action) Hiding was never Brahmah's thing, it seemed dishonorable, but it some ways, this is a warranted situation.
Brahmah does not draw his swords within the niche as they might glint in any light source.
Prepared Spells: Alarm x2**, Protection from Energy acid*
Spells Active: Alarm (3 hours of 8 hour duration) Alarm #2 (4 hour duration, closest intersection to throne room, BTW Both passwords for the Alarms are Kayleb for future reference) Immune to Fireball 70 mins Protection from Energy acid 40 mins Shield via a Philter
Brahmah Thursday April 26th, 2007 5:14:20 AM
The Captain suggests to Flat-top not to make offerings to the evil looking ooze. :)
Winterglade Thursday April 26th, 2007 6:17:39 AM
Winterglade does not look pleased.
"It's Vargas all right. With him are a furball rogue of some kind, a pair of centaurs that are, by Winterglade's best guess, a cleric and a spell lobber of some kind. And a wemic cleric. And a hornhead barbarian, if you excuse the redundancy. They have just finished fighting the statues at the entrance. They know we are here and want to surprise us."
Winterglade picks up the wands he left behind and straps on his shield with a <ka-click>. He positions himself, as agreed, behind the doors. The doors should not be wide open by the way - Winterglade pushes them so that they are just cracked open.
[Winterglade is just behind the left half of the doors, not visible from the mummy chamber. In one hand he has his shield, in the other the stronger wand of healing. The weaker wand is in his pocket.]

Flat-top d20+6=26 (natural 20) d20+4=22 d20+4=20 d20+4=20 Thursday April 26th, 2007 7:20:57 AM
Flat-top not willing to let go of his (now sinking) Gold Coin, tells the Captain, "I work hard for that gold coin!" THEM jumps into the black goo.
He fells around for that coin, then make it to the side of this moat, pulls himself out of the moat.
Not this Black dripping Center is on the other side (the island) with the body AND the Black sword.
Jump - 26
Swim - 22
Survival - 20

Brahmah (post errata) Thursday April 26th, 2007 1:54:52 PM
Watching in horror as Flat-top jumps in, he holds to see any adverse effects.
"This wasn't the time for that you road apple laying centaur! We have a serious issue with Vargas. He's here and you should NOT be acting like a colt!"
Then Brahmah pauses and his brain spins with ideas! ------------------------- DM Only... for nowHighlight to display spoiler: {If there are no noticable ill effects from the ooze, Brahmah will change his action.
If the ooze not bad, he makes a quick change to the plan. "Okay, Chosen, I have decided that the ooze is the BEST hiding place. Use scrolls as breathing tubes and hide on the other side of the island." Brahmah will hand out 4 pages of parchment rolled into tubes. He will keep one for himself and hand one to Flat-top.
Donna, could you post Brahmah's actions from the spoiler within your DM post if you decide too.}

Not a spoiler. He's just speechless watching Flat Top.
If nothing happens to Flat Top, he's gonna head over to niche #4 and squeeze in, and wonder about that guy.
Zeoll Thursday April 26th, 2007 7:02:42 PM
In his niche already, Zeoll only hopes that Flat-top does not make enough noise to wake the dead.
He thanks Glade for the info. "I'm glad you got back safe, Glade!" he says. "I'll tarrget the rrogue and the barrbarrian. Maybe a casterr if I can."
"Get rready, everrybody!"

Toros gets his scrolls on hand and readies himself for what is coming.
Uh Oh - DM Donna d20=18 Friday April 27th, 2007 2:22:39 AM
Flat-top's bulk makes the oozy black stuff displace with a dull splatter--the other Taurs in the Queen's chamber are lucky that he didn't splash them.
How lucky?
Flat-top manages to grab his coin and swim over to (and clamber onto) the "island" on the other side...this in spite of the slipperiness of the gunky black oil now clinging to him and making him look like a mostly-black-hided centaur.
The figure in the wemic-styled throne does not move. It appears female and has her arms crossed over her chest, cradling to her body a large sword in a sheath. She wears a helm that has a filigree visor/mask over the face.
Flat-top feels strangely drained...weaker than he did before he got his oil dip.
Flat-top Highlight to display spoiler: { Well, the good news is that you managed to retrieve your gold piece. (I rolled a Grab for Flat-top and got 18. Hooray! The bad news is that you have just lost a level of experience. Make the necessary adjustments to your hit points, combat rolls and saving throws. The worse news is that you need to have Flat-top make a Will Save now versus DC15.}
Winterglade does some quick calculations in his head...Vargas and his party are likely to arrive at the outer room (the map room) in approximately 10 rounds.
Winterglade Friday April 27th, 2007 3:34:15 AM
"Incoming, sixty seconds."
Winterglade does some final preparations by casting a Protection from Energy (Fire) on himself. It seems the group is as ready as they are going to be-
<SPLASH>
The centaur looks back just once and shrugs. Whatever thoughts he has he keeps them to himself.
Zeoll (AC 17, HP 43) Friday April 27th, 2007 6:14:11 AM
Zeoll urges Flat-top to get out of there! He asks Glade and Gecktar to help him out.
He reminds everyone of their jobs.
Mosushi, please use your mage hand to move the curtain and the mummy body on the bench.
Toros, please use your ghost sound and ventriloquism to mask my casting and to make it sound like someone else is casting somewhere else. Cast Ventriloquism first since it lasts longest. Then, last, cast the illusion, since you have to concentrate to make it last.
As soon as I see the enemy, I'll cast Charm Person on the barbarian, the rogue, and others. Then I'll spring out, shouting, and get some of the enemy to follow me.
As soon as I'm out with them, Brahmah leaps out to block the exit as Mosushi fireballs those enemies who are left, including Vargas. Then everybody fights! Except maybe Glade, who keeps invisible in order to roam the battlefield curing.
"Okay! This is it! Prray Domi we can be brrave enough to win!"

Zeoll Friday April 27th, 2007 11:01:27 AM
In the back of his head, Zeoll begins to suspect that, for some reason, he's not sure why, the entire operation is about to go belly up fast. In flames.
He thinks about saving his second level slot for an Invisibility, so he can creep out of the conflagration that's about to erupt.
It's enough to turn a Taur chaotic. :-)

With this said Flat-top (or better known as Blacl-top) will gently take the Black Sword from her lap.

Incoming..! - DM Donna Monday April 30th, 2007 3:33:42 AM
OOC: From this point on, all players must put the following in their Post Name spaces: Character Name (armor class; current hit points/pre-battle hit points; all spell effects). As an example, Flat-top's Post Name space would have in it:
Flat-top (AC21; 91/91hp; -1 Level)
DM POST:
Everyone is making sure that they're in their places...and now the ominous sound of footsteps approaches the map room. Brahmah feels his Alarm spell go off. Vargas and company will soon be entering the room.
There is one more post for the PCs and then the opposing party will come into the map room.
There is a map in the emails for the PCs to show where I believe everyone is located. Post any corrections in your next post, please.
MEANWHILE, ON THE "ISLAND":
For the briefest of moments, Flat-top thought he heard a voice whisper in his head in the Tauric language:
...take me...
Obviously, however, it must have been his imagination.
Flat-top slips and slides a bit, not having been able to remove all the oil from his hooves. He moves carefully towards the still form of the armored figure on the wemic throne. Now that he's close enough, he sees a dessicated, larger-than-average wemic, with longer, sharper teeth, thicker gnarled bones, and leathery dried skin. The wispy remains of a once-golden mane stream from her head, which is crowned by a large golden headdress with a visor-like piece covering the top half of her face. The corpse's arms are clasped around an enormous sword, its naked blade so black that it seems to absorb what light there is from within the room.
Clearly she is no longer alive...not even as an animated undead.
Flat-top reaches for the sword, noting that, should he choose to wrest it from the corpse's grasp, he will have to play tug-of-war with the dried, stiff remains for possession of the blade.
Flat-top Highlight to display spoiler: { if you still choose to grab the blade, you must make a Will Save versus DC30. If Flat-top MAKES the save, then he must roll a Strength check versus DC18 to pull the sword from its current resting place.
If you FAIL the save, then Flat-top actually pulls the sword quite easily from the arms of the corpse...but then you must post that Flat-top stands absolutely still with the sword in his hands until I send you an email explaining what has really happened.}
Winterglade [AC22 HP61(61) Protective Ward, Prot. from Energy(fire):84] Monday April 30th, 2007 3:49:34 AM
Winterglade stands still, quietly waiting for the situation to unfold. He realizes that with no avenue of escape the only options open are win or be all slain.
Zeoll (AC 17, HP 43) Monday April 30th, 2007 5:40:20 AM
In the ten rounds before the fight Zeoll whispers the plan again to his friends so that there will be less confusion: "Wait forr them to come past the middle of the rroom. Then use illusions and mage hand to distrract them as I cast spells. DO NOT ATTACK until I rrun out of the rroom and severral follow me!"
In the last round before the fight Zeoll just says a quiet prayer and hopes Flat-top is okay.

Flat-top carfully aprovhes the moat, takes out his flints, makes a spark and POOF! the Moat is on Fire! "Now when I leave, I will not grow weaker..." he now approaches the Throne, He seem to hear something?? The wind?? He is now in front of the Queen, she looks quite decayed. He now puts his hand on the sword and pulls, the sword slips from her grasp very easy.
Flat-top stands absolutely still with the sword in his hands...

When things get big, they get crowded, when things get crowded, people die.
