You bid farewell to the elves, who are no longer refugees, but are now townsfolk. They press many small, handmade gifts on you--not valuable, but obviously made with a great deal of time and care. They provision you for the trip--indeed, for a dozen trips--and bid you farewell. Lily is invited to explore the underground room before she leaves, if she likes.

Of course, there remains the issue of where you will travel once this touching scene concludes. Jarlwolf and Magpie Crossing lie in opposite directions from here...which way are you headed?

Lorth
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 8:22:16 AM

At the mention of Koshe-Marr Lorth nods to Bralin, "And I would return with you friend. We have unfinished business there."

Lorth spars with Florin and Malgant any time they wish it and he is free.

Before they leave he tends to his gear, he takes a few hours and polishes his new breatplate to a near mirror shine.

Any

"Since we have no fixed destination, we may go where we like. However, wwe were asked to assist here by the Pitchfork Council. we should in all good conscience, probably go there first to report on how things progress here, and that our need here is over. Afterwards, I don't see that it matters where we go, so we could certainly visit Magpie Crossing and those there. What do you all think?"

Harvest
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 10:27:32 AM

"I am sorry, Paladin Florin Jandeth," Harvest Moon shakes her head. As she does so, the crest of hair that hangs down over her eye waggles back and forth. "I will not teach you how to harm another living creature."

"If you wish, though, I will instruct you on ways to defend yourself. It is as important to learn to fall and roll as it is to learn to stand firm. I will also teach you how to take a weapon from your enemy's grasp. And if you wish, I can teach you how to throw an enemy to the ground."

Harvest takes from her haversack the book within which she draws her maps. She turns to the page upon which she has drawn Cinnamon Valley.

"Magpie Crossing is no more than a short distance once we arrive at the main road," she points out. "Afterwards it would be easy to travel back westward."

"May we go, Anthos?" she asks.

Any
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 1:40:09 PM

Any smiles at Harvest, as she look sat him asking to go to Magpie Crossing.

"My Lady, we may go where we wish. If as a group we decide to go there first, I don't think it will matter in the long run. All roads are joined, and I think that all paths we take will lead to the same destination. One just might take longer than another. I am not saying that our lives are controlled by fate, but that our choices seem to lead us where we would have been anyway.

So if we reverse the order of travel I suggested, all will still be accomplished, and I have no objections. How about you others?"

He looks questioningly at Bralin, Arminas, Lorth, Florin, Lily, Davros, and Malgant.

Davros
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 4:16:44 PM

Magpie crossing sounds as good as any other place to visit. Our report to the Council can wait a short time I think.

Davros thanks the elves for their gifts. "I hope the few spells I was able to teach will aid in the town's protection."

Arminas
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 4:37:49 PM

Arminas converses with the elves and thanks them for the gifts and provisions.

"If I can ever be of use notify Grynntym, he can usually find me."

Arminas calls Ewan down from her lazy circles in the sky.

We travel to Magpie Crossing I think, watch for danger.

Ewan again takes to flight as Arminas whistles for Darkfire.

"Now where has that horse gotten off to? I suppose I should have spent more time with him."

Looking at the rest of the group, he adds:

"Magpie crossing will be good to see again. Merrydale would be nice to visit as well, but it looks like our path leads elsewhere for now."

Bralin
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 5:02:11 PM

"Magpie first," the dwarf responds with his usual eloquence.

Once that's settled, he has a question for Arminas.
"Be there a way to shape your grasping plants spell?" he asks. "The circle hampers melee considerably."

Arminas - 2nd post
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 6:16:43 PM

"I have only learned to make a circular area of grasping plants. I concentrate on an area, and it seems to spread out from there. Perhaps I can check with someone more learned to find if there is a way to modify it. Until then, perhaps when we get to town we can make sure everyone has a ranged weapon or spell. As you could tell from the encounter in the Culverwood, they gained the advantage when they cast entangle upon you. They then used magic and arrows and nearly killed Davros. The same tactic would do us well."

Malgant
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 8:02:26 PM

" Is that how Davros became so badly wounded?" Malgant asks as he hears the discussion about the spell that nearly ended his life. He frowns and continues, " I had wondered who among the group would need this most, now I think I know." Malgant reaches into his pouch and draws out a platinum ring, one that looks identical to one he wears on his own large finger. " When we reach a place where jewelry can be made I can have more copies made, but for now I think that Davros will best benefit from the protection this can offer. Most people will target the spell caster in a group first, trying to eliminate the highest threat. With that ring Domi allows me to take some of the damage you take myself, allowing you to continue to do what they are trying to stop. What are these places you talk about? Magpie crossing, Koshe-Marr, the Pitchfork Council? I am a traveler, and don't know them, will you tell me about them?"

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 8:36:46 PM

Lily is keen to visit the room, and does so immediately. She listens intently as the elves (or a fellow adventurer) explains how the room was used, and by whom. She looks carefully over the traps that were set off, hoping to learn from them.

Lily politely thanks the elves for their time and hospitality. She genuinely feels that they have been more than generous, and she does her best to let them know.

"Ready are we, to travel? Let's go."

Lily listens to the conversation about tactics with Bralin and Arminas. The dwarf seems to be looked up to in terms of tactics amongst other traits.

"I don't think the Entangle spell is a bad thing. It should even give us a great deal of benefit. I just don't like being pinned, and when that tree reached out for me I freaked out, a little. No offence Arminas, but I think I could personally escape the worst effects of your spell most of the time, and still manage to move into a beneficial position. I just don't like being pinned. Bad memories of big people holding me down."

Harvest (2nd Post)
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 10:07:46 PM

Harvest Moon lays her book out for the minotaur Protector to see.

"This is Windtree here." Her small finger pokes out from within her voluminous sleeve. "Follow the road northeast and you will find Magpie Crossing, just south of Stormwind Castle. West from there," the tip of Harvest's finger travels along the line that marks the road, "you come to Jarlwolf. Jarlwolf is where the Pitchfork Council meets."

Harvest turns a few pages, revealing a map that is mostly blank. Near the bottom is a small drawing labeled simply "Shack of Baelfred". A line wends its way upward meeting at only two other places of note, one is labeled "The Still" and the other is labeled simply, "The Inn."

"This is Koshe Marr, Protector Malgant," Harvest explains. "I believe it to be ... a land of ... a land forsaken by the gods."

"Don't you think, Anthos?"

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday April 18th, 2007 10:17:45 PM

Florin looks to Harvest on her comment and smiles, "I meant no offense Harvest on my question. I'll gladly learn what your willing to teach."

Florin is glad to go with the others when their ready to move out and bids farewell to the elves, sad to leave them in many ways but also glad that the elves now have a home and hopefully safe place to stay.

Florin does look to Bralin when he hears the name of the dead land where they met the vampire before and smiles faintly, "I'm a undead hunter now also so I will be glad to go back their and try my skills out."

The prisoners are questioned, sentenced and the sorceress and fighter are executed. The rogue and the adventurer Pelwyn are spared to live within the confines of the Windtree under the close supervision of the elves. The druid is executed when Grynntym the Greenmage hears his case.

Lorth travelled to Jarlwolf to deliver a message for Parnoth (via Remo) about the actions of those who claim to be his supporters.

Trees were transplanted to help finish the new town's defences, and the party ask of the elves if they need further help. The party is free to leave now that the elders feel that Windtree is ready to defend itself. Gifts are given to the Swords of Light, and they discuss there next destination.

This week Florin was played by Robert.

DM Kathy
Thursday April 19th, 2007 12:54:45 AM

You bid farewell to the elves and head for Magpie Crossing. You have a pleasant morning's walk. The air is crisp but not yet cold, and the sun rising over the hills promises a warmer afternoon.

There is some discussion of strategy during the walk, specifically the Entangle spell. You all learn that once cast, the spell spreads in a circle measuring some 40 feet from the center point. Nimble creatures can keep from being entangled fairly easily [it is a first-leve spell, so the Reflex save DC is 11 + the caster's INT modifier], but even so, they have a difficult time moving through the area [you move at half-speed; if your normal move is 30, you only move 15 through an Entangle]. And, even after you elude them, the plants keep trying to tangle you up as long as you remain in the area [a new Reflex save is required each round].

The challenge with an Entangle, as you have discovered, is to ensure that it harms your foes more than it harms your allies.

You arrive in Magpie Crossing to find that harvest-time is underway. The whole town seems busy, and everyone moves with a sense of purpose.

You do not seem to have been immediately recognized.

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder
Thursday April 19th, 2007 3:09:11 AM

"Mmmmmmm, the smell of freshly cut straw. Don't you just love it. And look," much more quietly, "when they leave that much stalk like in that paddock you can run along without being seen. At least I could, Malgant counldn't.

"Back home, crops like this are a real pain in the, in the paddock. Most halflings seem to cut them down at ground level then cut the grains from the top on the ground. Some will transport it on wagons complete with the stalk and sell it that way.

"It makes for great discrepancies in pricing, you know, with or without stalks. Of course, some really want them with stalks, preferring to head them themselves, and use the straw.

"S'pose it might be cheaper that way, if you want grain and straw.

"There's one farm, Bilge I think their name is, use step ladders to get up to cut the heads of their wheat crop. They claim it is superior grain that way. It looks hilarious, cut, cut, down, move ladder, up, cut, cut, down. Still, I've always noticed that Old Tillbury Bilge always had a fat purse..."

Regarding tactics:
"I just like to generally get to the other side of the enemy and hit them where it hurts most. Even if I can get within 30' and flanking things go well. If I can get within melee range and Tumble around a bit things go well.
"I don't mind being more of a support person, but wiping a friend's blood from the Wand of Cure Light Wounds just isn't as satisfying as wiping orc blood from a sword. Know what I mean?"

Lorth
Thursday April 19th, 2007 7:33:35 AM

Lorth suggests that they head to the inn, to secure some rooms and see some old friends. If his friends agree he heads there, hoping that the food quality hasn't changed since his last visit.

Any
Thursday April 19th, 2007 10:11:06 AM

Any gathers his belongings, and places them on Moonshadow, choosing this time to walk to accomodate Malgant. The group is in no hurry anyway. He helps Harvest with Frieda, and moves out with the group.

He listens to the various conversations, and adds his comments as he wishes.

To Arminas he says,

"I need to improve my archery skills to enable me to be more effective from a longer range. Is there a bow that would help me to do this, or can you teach me the skill of getting more arrows in the air at a faster rate like you do?"

To Harvest he says,

"Koshe Mar? I believe it to be a place of evil gods, a place where the Gods of good do not have as much power or influence. It is somehow protected or hidden from them. It is a place that should not exist, yet does. Were we strong enough, I would urge us to go there and cleanse that land, but I fear that day is not yet, though it may come."

There is a glint in his eye of determination, and Any grows quiet for a short while, thinking of what transpired in Koshe Mar.

Thanks for the report Robert.

Arminas
Thursday April 19th, 2007 12:45:37 PM

Arminas rides Darkfire into Magpie Crossing. For a time, he rides alongside Any who asks about archery.

"Well, to start with you need a fine bow and good arrows. I can help choose one for you if you wish. Find one attuned to your strength, and if you can afford one that is magically enhanced it will be of great benefit. Then, practice! Start at close distances. Once you are able to hit from point blank range, you increase your distance and skill. It takes a lot of time, and unfortunately will take from your time with the lute, and with Harvest. It may not be worth it."

Once they get to town, Arminas mentions that he need supplies.

"I'm going to buy some more arrows. If you want to come Any, I will help you choose a good weapon."

Bralin
Thursday April 19th, 2007 1:52:36 PM

The dwarf walks steadily beside the talkative halfling. Taciturn by nature, he says little. Which matters little as Lily barely stops for a breath for days on end. It dawns on Bralin that he's likely the perfect travelling companion for the rogue.

Her comment regarding finding more satisfaction wiping an enemy's blood from your blade does elicit a hearty "Aye!"

At Magpie, Bralin agrees with Lorth about getting a room. The dwarf then heads off to the local Catacombs office to see about replacing his horse.

[ooc - Al, can you resend the cash shares we ended up with?]

Harvest
Thursday April 19th, 2007 3:53:20 PM

There is the Cooperage where they fought the Weapons Smugglers and where they first encountered the traitorous, Captain Greenblade. There is the place where the Woldian League of Adventurerer's had held their recruiting fair. And over there, the place in which Brightsong Trading used to hold office.

Treading old paths. Riding upon the tall back of gentle Fyrda, the sights of Magpie Crossing are as of a coming home.

Ahead is the wedge shaped building of the Shadfly Inn.

Harvest Moon looks about herself in excitement. Her eyes leap from one to the other of her traveling companions, the new and the old. Comes the realization. She wears an enormous grin upon her face.

[ OoC: Coming tonight, Mike. ]

Davros
Thursday April 19th, 2007 4:20:49 PM

"The gift you offer Malgant is simply enormous. I made a fair impression of a pin-cushion thanks to those raiders. Aside from almost being killed, I was unable to offer much assistance against the raiders. Your ring would have made all the difference. I accept your gift, a very noble thing to offer not just magic or money but offer your very self to aid another.I promise you that as long as I am still standing, the enemies of the Wold will feel the heat of my magic upon their backsides."

"As for Koshe-Marr, I will say only one thing: We have unfinished business in that foul realm. But Anthos is correct. Now is not the time."

Any
Thursday April 19th, 2007 5:32:00 PM

"I would be glad for any aid you might give friend Arminas. I do have a fine quality bow, but not a magical one. Perhaps that would be best for me to begin with. I am already a fair shot with a bow, but cannot seem to shoot quickly enough to make it an effective form of attack for me to use. Perhaps it is possible to help in that manner."

Malgant
Thursday April 19th, 2007 7:20:30 PM

Hoping to mend a fence or two, and finding himself woefully underarmed for ranged combat Malgant asks Arminas if he could suggest something that might compliment the minotaur's strength, rather than rely on his dexterity. " Looking at the javelins that Lily was tossing around at the end of the fighting in the camp I was thinking that those might work well for me. I could make up in strength what I lack in accuracy. Of couse I might need bigger javelins."
In Regards to Davros's comment Malgant assures him that the ring is a normal part of his church's teaching. " They used to teach us to heal our allies when we could, but if that may be too difficult due to distance then we could help by lessening the damage dealt to them."

Florin Jadenth
Thursday April 19th, 2007 9:53:27 PM

Florin listens to everyone as they travel along and smiles as he hears Lily's comments. Florin looks to the fields and then to her, moving up beside her and commenting to her, "A interesting site for me really. I'm from a noble house in the Floating City so farming is something I've really never done before or seen really."

Florin also agrees with the going to get a room and follows along for this.

DM Kathy
Friday April 20th, 2007 2:28:24 AM

Harvest-time is busy, so although you are able to find rooms at the inn, you have to double up. As you move through the town, you hear talk that a big market-day is planned for the day after tomorrow. Traveling merchants are expected in, and the farmers from the surrounding area will bring in their early harvests, and possibly some animals as well.

[OOC: I'm afraid I haven't read all of the CV backstory, so I don't know what NPCs to put in town. Assume anyone you want to talk to is still in town. :) ]

Lily
Friday April 20th, 2007 3:47:14 AM

"Malgant, yes, the javelin is a good tool. I try to throw two at once when I get the chance," she pulls two out from her quiver to demonstrate, but does not throw them.
"However, these seem to be shoddy javelins, I've got 3 left. I guess I might buy some more.
"Here, to me this is a longspear," again Lily pulls this out of her magic quiver, "To you it might be a javelin. Give it a go if you want."

From only 2' above the ground Lily passes the longspear [OOC whats that about 6' long for a small character?] up to the rather tall Malgant.

"Is there a Catacombs outlet here?"

Lorth
Friday April 20th, 2007 9:17:59 AM

Lorth picks a room to share and deposits his belongings there. He carefully unwraps and then places the statue Bralin carved him on any flat piece of furniture in the room. A bit of adornment while they stay, since he doesn't get to look at it much.
Then he heads downstairs to greet the innkeeps, it is good to be back, he thinks...

(OOC: Kathy, here is an excerpt from long ago, I dug it out, could give you a feel for the place.
Hildy and Lincoln run the inn :)

Hildy interrupts and ushers Lorth, Andrath, and the others over to a table in the corner and settles them in. She flushes slightly at the talk of her 'famous' pies and heads towards what must be the kitchen to fetch tonight's fare for each of them. "Lincoln" she calls as she disappears into the kitchen, "see they have something to drink". Lincoln mumbles something about "knowing his job" before emerging from behind the bar. The portly halfling polishes the inside of a glass mug with a bar cloth as he approaches. Two of the patrons at the bar call for another round and he nods in acknowledgment. "Sure is nice to see so many folk attending this open-house," he says to the party. "Not that I take much stock in this adventuring nonsense mind you, but business has been poor of late and these folks seem decent enough" he nods his head towards the table of colorful characters across the room. "Now, what can I get you?" he asks those at the table.

A tall slender looking man with spectacles and a long sharp nose looks up from his beer and answers Bralin " A stout heart and a desire to help others in the battle against evil, that's all that's required of a man... or a dwarf' he answers Bralin. "We are all members of the League" he continues. "Why don't you visit us tomorrow at the community center, ask for me, I am called Gaylon" he says and offers Bralin his hand in friendship. Another of the men at the table looks up at Harvest Moon who has also approached their table. "Are you also interested little brown one?"

Hildy re-emerges from the kitchen bearing a tray with 5 large slices of chicken pie and proceeds to lay them out at the table. She finds knives and forks within the pockets of her apron and lays them next to each of the plates. "Now then young man", she says to Lorth, "best eat it while it's still hot". Each piece looks to be one quarter of an entire pie, and is thick with potatoes, vegetables, chicken, and a creamy sauce.)

Any
Friday April 20th, 2007 10:09:53 AM

OOC-- Kathy, we also still need totals from the first encounter to divide spoils. Many would like to shop and gear up during the break. :o)

Any first takes care of the stablinig of the animals, stripping the horses, and paying the stable hand a silver to take good care of them, give them a bait of grain, and brush them out.

When they discover the situation inside, Any asks if Harvest would mind sharing a room with him. Their is mischief in his eyes, but his face is expressionless.

Once all are settled in, he goes downstairs to find a table near a wall, and waits fro others to join him if they wish, before he orders a meal.

Bralin
Friday April 20th, 2007 3:54:40 PM

Eyeing Malgant's greatsword, Bralin joins the discussion regarding missile weapons.

"A composite longbow would benefit from your strength," the dwarf points out. "A bow an arrow sized to match your frame would be a fearsome weapon indeed." Bralin's eyes glaze over and a slight grin forms at his mouth at the thought of such destructive capability.

Davros
Friday April 20th, 2007 10:41:44 PM

Davros settles into his room and asks the others who are more familiar with the town what interesting locations are about.

OOC- so does it matter who is staying in which room?

Florin Jadenth
Friday April 20th, 2007 11:51:51 PM

Florin is okay with doubleing up on the rooms and looks to Bralin and Malgant, pondering some before speaking up, "I don't mind shareing with Bralin, Lorth or Malgant depending. No offense to the others, just know them better and wouldn't be right to double up with one of our female companions." Florin nods to Harvest and Lily, smiling softly as he meant that respectfully.

Florin is happy to see the town a buzz with life too and takes the time to wonder abit before thinking and heading over to see Bralin, "Hey Bralin, was thinking. Since the statue you made me is back in the Float with my adopted daughter would you mind if I bought you a piece of stone to work on sometime when you have the chance? Isn't pressing or nothing, just I know you like spending your time working with stone."

Florin will also help Bralin pick a good pony if he would like Florin's help. Florin's handle animal isn't overly bad and he has Ajax to help compare up too.

Malgant
Saturday April 21st, 2007 10:40:42 AM

" A compsite longbow would probably work fine, Except that I have never been taught how to use any type of bow(simple weapons only for priests). Domi has taught me how to use the Greatsword with skill since it is a weapon he favors. Do the townsfolk have a room that will fi me do you think? I am rather larger than their normal visitors I would guess."

Arminas
Saturday April 21st, 2007 11:32:19 AM

It looks like the group is splitting up into pairs for the night. Looking to Lily, he says:

"Well, it looks like we both are in need of a room mate. Do you think you could use that hat of yours to assume the form of a nymph? .... Just a thought."

Lily
Saturday April 21st, 2007 6:18:51 PM

Lily laughs uproariously. She replies to Arminas, with a with a wink, "I'll see what I can do." With a though she changes the hat to a small hair comb. She pulls this out and adjusts it in her long dark hair and says, "So long as you don't mind if I leave this on all night."

Harvest
Saturday April 21st, 2007 10:13:46 PM

Harvest arrives with a large wooden tray. Hot steaming wedges of chicken pie, juices bubbling from within golden flaky crust dot the tray, each set upon a dark wooden plate.

"Hildy Lincoln is very busy," Harvest says by way of explanation, and then begins serving out the plates.

"Perhaps, as a Protector, you need not seek to strike at others at such a great distance," she offers. "It may be the will of Domi that you shield those who are near instead."

Harvest covers her mouth as Arminas Calaelen makes a proposition of great imagination to Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder. Her smile is well hidden, but the crinkles at the corners of Harvest Moon's eyes betray her amusement. She places a plate in front of Anthos and brushes her cheek against his.

DM Kathy
Monday April 23rd, 2007 12:20:51 AM

You are in good spirits after your adventure, and have fun deciding who is sharing who's room. Hopefully you don't shock the locals too much.

Harvest goes into the kitchen to retrieve some of the famous chicken pies for her friends. She finds Hildy dealing with a minor crisis--shattered crockery and molasses all over the floor, and a serving girl crying as if her heart would break.

"Here now, stop that noise and help me," Hildy says, exasperated. "Nobody's going to beat you, girl, we'll just clean it up. Fetch some hot water and some--my!" she beams at Harvest. "If it isn't Mistress Harvest! Yes, by all means, take some pies, do. I want to hear all about your adventures, just as soon as I've dealt with this..."

Lily compares javelins and spears with Maglant. She hands him one of her longspears, hoping it will be like a javelin to him. Alas, the grip is all wrong, and the spear is not balanced for throwing. Maglant could probably throw it, but not very effectively.

A bustling Lincoln arrives at your table, with a tray full of foaming tankards. "Welcome back," he says, unloading them in front of you. "Hildy'll want to hear all about your adventures. Wrestling bears, was it? And discovering ancient elf ruins? Glad to see you're all in one piece." And he bustles off again to attend to other customers.

You get a few curious looks from nearby tables. "I hear they fought Parnoth himself!" you hear one diner say.

"Well, I heard they found a vast hoard of gold coins buried in the ground! Why don't I ever find anything like that while plowing?" General laughter greets the last remark.

Autumn is coming as you leave the elves. The elves gave the party some small handmade gifts, and plenty of provisions.

The journey to Magpie Crossing was uneventful. The people are busy with harvest time, and the inn is almost booked out. The party are forced to share room with some interesting conversations begun. At the inn Hildy Lincoln is very busy, though Harvest gets the party some of the famous chicken pies.

Any picks at his meal, only taking a small portion to taste, then sits enjoying the company of all those present. It's good to just be able to sit and relax. When Harvest comes back to the table the next time, Any says,

"Ahh! A beautiful serving wench! And what do you bring us today."

He pretends to grab at her laughing as he does so.

The dwarf watches Malgant try out the spears.
"Nay, nay," he remarks, shaking his head. "Ye need a weapon balanced for your size. Javelin is best suited for your skills, but ye need a bigger one. The Catacombs will have some. Also, a magical quiver to carry them."

Having done his duty, Bralin heads for the tavern. He plops down next to Lorth, also eying the food. Hildy drops a couple on the table, and the dwarf responds by handing her two gold pieces.
"We will need more," he informs her solemnly.

The dwarf commences on the pie.

Arminas
Monday April 23rd, 2007 11:42:48 AM

With a look of shock upon his face, Arminas looks at the transformed Lily. She has become a Nymph, the plain homey looks of a halfling have melted away and the most beautiful creature in the Wold has taken her place. Arminas is drawn to her, almost as if by magic.

And then she speaks and moves .......

Arminas stops and shakes his head.

"Forgive me Lily, it is of no use. I had a dream once, I was in the old Wold, and met a Nymph in the courtyard of Queen Maab. I have been entranced by her ever since. You are a fine halfling woman, and it is no use pretending to be something else."

Arminas sits and eats pie, not daring to look towards Lily again. The delicious pie has lost its taste for the elf.

"Perhaps I will spend the night in the tree outside with Ewan. Beds are such a strange invention, and who knows who has slept there before."

Harvest
Monday April 23rd, 2007 3:27:02 PM

A narrow look with a firm and disapproving pout sally forth to fend off Anthos as his hands reach out for her. Harvest nearly manages to bring her hands to her hips to add to the arsenal of mock disapprobation before her facade crumbles into a gale of laughter, and she slips out of the range of his grasp with hands poised should a much dreaded tickling pursue her across the floor.

"Lily Bolger!" Harvest calls. "Can you make the likeness of me? Can you become me? Look Anthos! Which one of us is real and which is not?"

Malgant
Monday April 23rd, 2007 6:53:43 PM

Malgant listens to Bralin and has to agree. Then Harvest's comment stops him in his tracks. He had not thought of it that way, her argument was quite compelling. I should at least have a couple of javelins though he thought, in case the only way he could keep someone from harm was by throwing it to stop a threat to them. Before dinner he settles his gear into whichever room is assigned to him, and heads down to dinner.

The pies look divine, and taste as good as they look. Malgant sits back and eats, watching how well his new friends get along and banter back and forth when they are not solving the problems of the Wold. for the first time in a long while, he is happy where he is and does not miss his home so much.

Monday April 23rd, 2007 7:04:32 PM

Davros enjoys the food and the ompany of his friends. "Why thank you Harvest" He eats and even enjoys a bit of ale. Watching the antics of his comades, he says "It's going to be lively in the rooms tonight". With a smile onhis face, he keeps eating.

Lily demonstrate to Malgant the usefulness of the magic quiver, "and they're cheap too." She has a fine looking Shortbow, an array of arrows, a Wand of Cure Light Wounds, 2' Stilts, a (short) Longspear, 3 Javelins, and a Quaterstaff made from Oak.

"All very handy with different disguises, you see."

For Arminas' benefit Lily assumes the form of a nymph and moves toward him. He backs away, makes some poor excuse and refuses to make eye contact. Lily humphs and stamps her foot a little, then winks at Davros...

At Harvest's suggestion Lily changes to her appearence, and nimbly jumps around her to confuse Any. With a distant and solemn look she says to no-one in particular,

"Death is in and of itself a lesson in the value of life. These Laws create equilibrium. Words when juxtaposed begot wisdom." Hand on her chin she nods to herself, then reaches out to touch Any's arm,
"Let's go upstairs."

When that game ends Lily changes to a gruff dwarf lady with a forked beard.
"Pie," she commands, and, "Ale." She scoffs some pie and swigs some ale, both of which tumble down onto her beard.

Lily changes again, back to herself (is there a real Lily?) laughing heartily. She belches loudly, saying, "Oh, excuse me. That should have gone with the beard."

To end the night Lily will share whatever room is left. She arranges the pillows under the blanket to look like a sleeping form then tucks herself into a ball under the bed with a dagger in each hand. Old habits die hard.

Florin enjoys the meal with the others and listens to them as they talk. Florin can't help but chuckle at the antics Lily and before he heads to bed he speaks to her, "I have to say I'm glad you joined up with us Lily. This group needs someone with a good sense of humor and a good fighter too. Night." With this he heads to his room for rest.

Practially on Harvest's heels, Hildy comes to the table, bearing more pies. "Here, put your money away," she scolds Bralin. "First round's on the house. Maybe the second round, too. My!" she looks around at all of you. "There's new ones now, aren't there. Did you all help the elves? What was that underground room you found? Was there really gold inside?"

All of the party seem to be in good spirits, and there's some lively conversation and joking. Lily is a big hit with her Hat of Disguise. She can turn herself into a facsimilie of Harvest, but the effect is rather spoiled when a voice comes from the general area of "Harvest"'s belt buckle.

Eventually, you retire to sleep indoors for the first time in a while. All except Arminas who chooses to spend another night under the stars with Ewan close by.

There is a chill fog the next morning, but it is the kind that usually burns off by midday. In the inn, pots of hot tea and bowls of porridge are served to an appreciative throng.

Tuesday April 24th, 2007 1:50:18 PM

Awaking in the morning, Any rises and refreshes himself, and inviting Harvest to join him, makes his way to the dining area.

After eating, he says,

"I believe that I will take Arminas' advice, and seek a way to improve my archery skills. I would like to do a little shopping, anyone like to come along?"

He looks around the room with exaggerated interest, peering over the top of Harvest's head, before looking down at her and offering her his hand.

Bralin
Tuesday April 24th, 2007 3:49:08 PM

Guess what? Bralin REALLY enjoys a good chicken pie. The famished warrior finishes off three, barely pausing to give Lily an upraised eyebrow at her dwarf imitation. He washes it down with large quantities of ale. As each new dish arrives, he offers his coin to Hildy.

"Not much gold," he replies honestly to her question. "Mostly books."

In the morning, after snoring away the night with Lorth, Bralin is back for more pie. He polishes off another.

"I will join you," he tell Any. "I need a new horse." The dwarf gives Arminas a look while he continues, "and it seems I require a more serviceable ranged weapon than this crossbow. Tis slow and unweildy."

Harvest
Tuesday April 24th, 2007 6:35:01 PM

A very enjoyable evening. Harvest Moon nibbles the edge of the spoonful of porridge as she gazes out the window at the fog bound road. Such laughter and amusement.

"I will accompany you, Anthos," she says, still dreamy and far away.

Very enjoyable. Then why is it that there is such call to her from the open road?

Malgant
Tuesday April 24th, 2007 6:39:39 PM

Malgant walks back into the common room, his sword over his shoulder. Having just finished his morning prayers he is quite ready for some tea and porridge. At Any's mention of shopping he readily agrees." I would love to get some shopping done. Maybe you all can show me these catacombs and explain their useage to me."

OOC
Ok, how does the catacombs work? If I want something normal( well almost normal) like javelins my size do I need to make out a post on the catacombs board or do I just do that for odd stuff, like Woldian items that are unique to the wold?

After spending a restful night in the tree with Ewan, Arminas spends a few moments preening the eagle.

Time for me to go meet with the others, you go hunt.

Arminas drops from the tree, and settles slowly to the ground. Walking into the Inn, he sees most of the group having breakfast. Sitting at the table, he flags down Hildy.

"Could I please have some of that porridge? If you have some nuts and dried fruit, may I have some also?"

Arminas enjoys his breakfast, still not quite certain about making eye contact with Lily.

"Morning, all. I think I will shop as well."

Davros
Tuesday April 24th, 2007 10:56:20 PM

Davros enjoys having slept in a bed. Upon awakening he dresses in his nicer clothing. At breakfast he exclaims "Resting on the road or in the wilderness can be enjoyable, but there is nothing quite like a cozy inn with a bed, fireplace, and a desk to sit and read at. Hildy, your inn is quite respectable, and the food is nothing short of excellent. Davros Sapphiredge at your service."

"Davros studies some notes during the meal. Yes, I believe that with our new funds a shopping trip is in order. I could definately use some scroll writing and other supplies. And some new clothes. My old ones are too bloodstained to salvage."

You awaken in good spirits and ready to spend some of your hard-earned money.

You inquire about the famed Catacombs and are directed to Jarlwolf.

[OOC: that is, I think you are. I don't think there's a Catacombs entrance at Magpie, but I could be wrong. Regardless, do go to the Catacombs board and start making your purchases; that process takes a while anyway.]

Those of you seeking more mundane items are advised to browse the large market-day tomorrow. "There will be all manner of goods here," Hildy tells you excitedly. "I'm sure you can find whatever you need.'

[OOC: generally, standard and masterwork gear can be bought without going to the Catacombs; just deduct the cost from your character sheet. We'll do the market if people want to role-play getting it. I'd say you don't need to go to the Catacombs for non-magical Large weapons.]

The morning may be gray and chilly, but Magpie Crossing is still a-bustle with activity. Workmen are bringing out planks and poles which will form the framework for some of the booths. Carts and wagons roll through the narrow streets, their drivers cursing their teams and each other with complete impartiality. Excited children chase each other, shrieking, among the jostling crowds.

The fog burns off shortly after noon, and in the bright sunlight the town just gets busier. Merchants begin to arrive, and peddlers with their brightly-painted wagons.

Lorth takes the time to visit the local temple.
He places 10 platinum coins in the poor box, then kneels before the altar.

He prays to Gargul seeking guidence. Quietly he prays, "Gargul, I have tried to live frugally throughout my life. Upholding the value that you will provide for your faithful followers. Over the course of my trials and adventures you have been most generous with providing such items as my father's sword. Now comes a time when I have amassed some wealth and I am not sure what to do with it. Should I be using this wealth to equip myself to further carry out your ideals? Or should I releave myself of this wealth, by buying presents for others and giving it to the poor. Please send me a sign, as I am unsure what to do."

Lorth then does his best to meditate for some time concentrating on his dilema.

Arminas

Finishing breakfast, Arminas wanders off to the street market.

"Time to find some good arrows. There is a fletcher in town who does an exceptionally nice job."

Arminas wanders about, watching the street performers and eating at the street vendor stalls.

He sees the small girl dressed in red and green, singing and tumbling. He drops a silver piece in her hat, and goes on his way.

High above, Ewan enjoys the early morning thermals.

Malgant
Wednesday April 25th, 2007 7:38:11 PM

Striding through the marketplace, Malgant takes in the sights sounds and smells of the harvest faire and enjoys the happy feeling that suffuse his entire body. Without his armor (it is back in his room in the Inn)he moves through the crowd with relative ease for someone of his size. He stops at this booth and hat, looking at the merchant's wares and mulling over his needs as he browses. He stops at one merchant's stall, a dwarven Jeweler and looks over his wares with a careful eye. Finally satisfied that the rings made by this merchant will fit the bill Malgant orders quite a number of platinum rings. Having lost sight of the others while making his purchase he continues on through the faire until he comes to a weapon crafter's stall. He again pauses and selects several javelins and a well crafted dagger from the wares offered, all in large size. A nearby leatherworker has a quiver of about the right size for his purchases and by the end of the day Malgant has spent a good deal of his porion of the rewards given to him by the Swords of Light. Tucking the rest of his coins away for the day that he as enough to enhance the enchantment on his sword, Malgant heads back for the in and his friends.

OOC
Shield other requires that I have a pair of rings costing at least 50 gp each as a reusable material component. Do I need 8 PAIRS of rings or will 9 rings, one for me and one for each other member of the group be enough? Either way I would like to purchase those, 5 large javelins and a large dagger. The javelins and the dagger I can price, but I'll need to know how many rings I need and weather this jeweler has enough on hand for me to purchase them or not.
Thanks

Although the market isn't until tomorrow, many of the heroes can't seem to wait. They move around the workmen constructing booths and the peddlers watering their horses, just as if the market was actually going on.

A few of the peddlers, quick and adaptable, open their wagons for a little "pre-show", and the heroes are quickly joined by throngs of curious visitors. There isn't a great variety of good on display, but they do have the basics. Davros can find his candles easily enough, and Maglant finds a few platinum rings.

[OOC: The way I read the spell, you would need a pair of rings for each person you wanted to be ready to cast it on. You might want to discuss with the others how practical it is to try to include everybody.]

Lorth takes a few moments to pray for guidance. He does not hear any reply at the time, although he feels a definite sense of peace and communion with his god. Much later in the day, all unbidden, the thought pops into his head that he ought to decide on a percentage of his earnings that he will set aside for Gargul and Gargul's works (to include helping the poor, etc.). Tithing (giving 10%) is popular, but Lorth feels he ought to decide what percentage he should give. He should give that every time, and stick to his pledge. The remainder of his earnings he would then be free to spend as he saw fit, without worrying that it should be going to a worthier cause.

Did the thought come from Gargul? Or was it his own unconscious mind, chewing over the problem and reaching a logical conclusion. Difficult to say....

Lily performs for the gathering crowds, and earns a bit of coin. [OOC: I see no reason why you shouldn't. :) ]

Lily the Harlequin
Thursday April 26th, 2007 5:18:19 AM

Lily sings for coins:

Under yonder oaken tree,
Whose branches oft me shaded;
Elves and fairies dance with glee,
When day's last beam hath faded:
Then while the stars shine brightly,
So airy, gay and sprightly,
'Till Chanticleer tell dawn is near,
They trip it, trip it lightly.

Yet no trace of them is seen,
When morning rays are glancing,
Not one footprint on the green
Shows where the elves were dancing:
Oh! where are they abiding?
In what lone valley hiding?
Come next with me and we will see
The fairies homewards gliding.

OOC: This is a traditional Welsh song, translated to English.

Harvest beams as she applauds the performance.

"That was very nice, Lily Bolger." Harvest herself adds a gold piece to the pile that Anthos is gathering from the crowd. "I have never before had coin to spare for a performer, but many times I have wished to give. I think that it is good that you be the first."

Bralin
Thursday April 26th, 2007 3:06:54 PM

Bralin watches Lily's performance with a bit of curiousity. She sings well, though the song be too woodsy for the dwarf's taste. Ah well, he's a long way from the deep halls of the Red Hills.

The warrior is unencumbered by armor for the first time in many weeks. He wears a simple grey shirt over black breaches, and finds himself pausing occasionally to check that his axe is in place on his back (it is).

Almost absently, he pulls The Sphere and lets its comforting presense occupy the palm of his left hand. The path of the warrior and the path of The Chamber will diverge soon. He can feel it. He wonders which he will choose...

Davros
Thursday April 26th, 2007 4:27:42 PM

Davros smiles at Lily. "It seems that you are gifted with many talents. Have you ever tried to learn a bit of magic?"

Malgant
Thursday April 26th, 2007 8:11:43 PM

Malgant Purchases any pairs of platinum rings that he can find for sale that fit the bill for the spell of protection he wishes to cast. His main goal is to have one such pair for each of his new companions and perhaps a spare or two in case they should run into new friends. Beyond that and the need to find a few weapons to suplement his Sword, Malgant tries to see all that there is to see in this town. Having lived among vintners and their rows and rows of grape vines he can appreciate the harvest and what it means to these folk. He also knows fairly well the type of Baazzar that this place will become tomorrow, where happy farmers come looking for a bit of pretty or a treat for themselves or their loved ones now that the hard work of the season is done. The place feels homey, and Malgant tries to lose himself in that feeling since he can not be in his actual home.

OOC
Let me know how many pairs of rings I will be able to find of the quality I need, and if you want I can try and arrange with the craftsman that made them a few more to reach the goals I stated. Malgant feels that this is his task as part of the group and does not ask the others to contribute to it. He wants to 'know' that he can at a moments notice be able to shield one of his new friends.

Florin Jadenth

Arminas

You have a pleasant pre-market day in town--except for Arminas who has a pleasant pre-market day away from town.

Lily's performance earns her praise and a few coins. Maglant is able to find two pairs of platinum rings that will suit his spell. Perhaps there will be more at the actual market tomorrow.

Florin has not really seen anything suitable today, but he, too, may have better luck tomorrow.

You retire to the inn for more wonderful meat pies. The common room is very crowded, but heroic adventurers can usually find a table, and tonight is no exception. You are bombarded with questions about the elf village and your discovery there.

The next morning is foggy again, but it in no way dampens the excitment. The market sets up very early; the noise and bustle out in the streets make sleeping in impossible.

Breakfast is more hot tea and porridge, and a special treat--hot cinnamon buns, fresh from the oven.

"Hilde, you are a marvel! These are delicious!"

He grins a little as he shows the many repairs on his shirt caused by cuts from battle.

Harvest
Friday April 27th, 2007 9:58:10 AM

"My name's Kiel" he wipes the crumbs from his lips as he speaks. "They're already gone, packed up their wagons and headed for the festival I guess." The urchin stands next to the monk, partly shielding himself from Andrath. "5 gold pieces" he blurts out. "I'll tell you all I know for 5 gold pieces".

"Five gold pieces is a lot of money, Kiel. You must tell me why you have the need for five gold pieces. Money must be handled wisely or it can bring tragedy. That is something my teacher told me often, and I have found it to be so. It is also far better to gain the means to make more money in the future, than it is to grasp for money here and now. And, perhaps, there is something that can be done for that as well."

A bow and some arrowheads. And maybe a dog. That had been the boy's answer. It was a worthy answer, and Harvest had given the boy five gold coins. Kiel had taken a job at the Shadfly Inn.

So much has happened since then. She had met Anthos. And she had found Alemi. Life could be so full here. Magpie Crossing, when compared to the Contested Kingdoms, was a paradise full of rewarding work, friends, and peace.

So what is it that calls her? The end of the dark ink pen taps at Harvest Moon's lower lip as she stares out the window of the Shadfly Inn. Before her, on the table, is her book of maps. So many of the pages are blank and waiting to be filled.

Harvest bends again to the page, completing the placement of Windtree on her map. Amongst the trees she begins the representation of an underground door, the torch next to the opened door is tipped to the left. Already complete, up above, is the representation of a black bear standing upon its hind legs. From the position of the black bear's forelegs, it could almost be seen to be in the midst of incanting a spell.

He speaks of fierce battles with determined foes. He doesn't seem to lose his audience until he explains in great detail the planting patterns of the elves' crops and defensive hedges.

In the morning, Davros inquires with Hilde about having a suitable desk placed in his room(if there isn't one already)for use in reading and writing. "These cinnamon rolls are fit for a noble's court."

After the noontime meal, Davros heads out to the Catacombs to inquire about a few scrolls.

Sunday April 29th, 2007 9:53:55 AM

Arminas joins his friends for breakfast, the smell of the cinnamon buns brings him into the Inn.

"Thanks Hildy, these are wonderful. To think, the bark of a tree can bring such a wonderful flavor. Nature is truely wonderful."

After eating a couple of buns, including the one Lily brings out, Arminas wipes his face and hands, takes a large drink of water and says:

"Well, do we stay here for a couple of days or are we setting off?"

Lorth spends a quiet couple of days resting and repairing his armor. Even with his unassuming air, he draws his fair share of attention from the locals--he is, after all, a charismatic paladin. There's enough other excitement in town, though, that he isn't bothered too much.

Any explores the market, and is able to find any number of shirts that fit him. He can choose from cotton, linen, wool, or even silk, in a wide variety of hues.

Harvest contemplates the events of the past weeks as she works on some maps and drawings of the group's experiences. She sees no sign of Kiel, whom she helped all those months ago.

Florin is able to make his donation to a worth cause. He and Bralin each wander the market, looking for crafting materials. There is some high-quality silver available, and a variety of stone. The marbles available are acceptable, but not outstanding. There is a decent marble with an unusual greenish cast to it, and some reasonably good-quality gray-white marble. There is also an extremely fine granite in a sandy color with a slight rosy cast to it. It isn't marble, of course, but the actual quality of the stone is very high.

Lily tries to pinch a cinnamon roll, but decides the better of it, given Harvest's watchful eye. She performs again, and garners some applause. There are other bards performing today, though, so holding an audience is more difficult.

Davros enjoys the attention from the townsfolk, and regales them with tales of your adventures.

Arminas also enjoys the festivities, but does wonder how long the group is staying.

The market lasts all day. The hastily-constructed booths offer all manner of goods, with more items available from wagons and peddler carts placed strategically about the square. A dozen different cooking smells waft over the scene, warring with one another for the noses and appetites of the crowd. No less than three different types of meat are available on sticks (and why does meat taste better on a stick?). There are sticky sweets, pasties, and piping-hot fried pies. Performers wander through the crowd, and excited children chase each other among the booths and wagons. The market-day doesn't begin to wrap up until the sun is nearly set; they merchants and vendors finish their tear-down and loading by torchlight. When you get back to the inn after a busy day, Hildy has a light supper of fruit, cheese, and fresh bread available. It is a pleasing meal after the (perhaps) excesses of the day.

Lorth is pleased with the light meal of bread, cheese and fruit. He picks lightly at the meal sticking mainly to the hard cheeses, prefering those over the soft ones. After dinner he once again sits on the front porch. He enjoys the cool night air and solitude.

"Ahhh! What a day. That was some nice work, that was. All the while that I am 'performing' for them, not only do they drop some coins for me, I am honing my skills to later go gather some more of those very same coi," she looks a little sheepish, "mushrooms. Coil mushrooms. You know, with the spiral pattern on them. Delicious, though, very poisonous with alcohol. So I hear. I've never done that to anyone. Think I'll go to bed now. G'night all. Thank you for the supper, Hilde."

Lily dashes upstairs, deliberately avoiding eye contact with the paladins. Again, she curls up under the bed, the pillows arranged as a sleeping form, with a dagger in each hand.

Harvest
Monday April 30th, 2007 12:04:34 PM

Digging out the inside of a loaf, one can create a small pouch from the crust. This Harvest does, and then fills the space with cheeses and few pieces of fruit. With her creation, she slips into the back alley. This is where Andrath Silverhand had lain in vigil to attract the rat that would become his friend and Familiar. The pile of boxes is still there. Different boxes to be sure, but still piled up against the wall.

Placing her food in the hood of her cloak, Harvest begins the climb. It was from this perch she had watched. Seated atop the boxes, she pulls bits from the bread crust pouch, munching it with cheese. And she watches. The sunset. The evening activity of the townsfolk after what appears to have been a successful season of farming.

Those had been simpler times. No vows. No responsibilities.

Harvest picks a grape out of the bread pouch. One cheek bulges as she bites down on the round fruit with her back teeth and sweet juice floods her mouth.

But how could those days compare to the things she has now? That funny little girl from the Contested Kingdoms who roomed in the cubby hole under the stairs, she was a different person. She had the favor of Alemi now. She wore proper clothing. And she would climb down off of these boxes tonight and return to their room. She would crawl under clean sheets tonight, and fall asleep in Anthos' arms.

Any
Monday April 30th, 2007 1:29:49 PM

Any chooses three shirts from those available. Two are no-nonsense shirts for everyday. Thinking of the coming winter, he chooses one of wool and one of cotton. The third shirt is chosen for a different purpose. This one is a dark blue silk. It shimmers in the sunlight of the market, and will be perfect for special occasions, or entertaining a crowd.

After paying for his purchases, he returns to the Inn. He watches quietly as Harvest takes some food and slips out the back door. She evidently wants to be alone, and he respects this and does not follow. He moves to the corner of the common room, close to the window, and begins to play softly on his lute.

Bralin
Monday April 30th, 2007 5:13:11 PM

Walking through the market place with Florin, the Bralin stops at the granite with the sandy-rose color. The dwarf inspects the stone carefully, his nose nearly rubbing against it as he follows the grain. After several minutes, he straightens.
"I would have a cube, six inches all around," he tells the seller.

The warrior enjoys as many varieties of "meat on a stick" as he can get his hands on, and then retires to the inn for an after dinner meal. Bralin sets his block of stone on the table, studying its lines as he eats.

In reply to Arminas' question he states simply, "leave on the morrow".

Davros
Monday April 30th, 2007 5:13:55 PM

Davros acquires a new set of clothing during the day to replace the ones destroyed by combat. He selects his favorite color- blue from among the many vendors. "A nice quiet relaxing day, with a cozy and comfortable inn to look forward to at night. Commoners think about the excitement of an adventurers' life, but these are the moments which are relished the most as they are few and far between."

OOC
Sorry, totally missed posting friday or over the weekend.

Arriving for breakfast after the others, Malgant still manages to snag one of the cinnamon rolls, and after tasting it decides not to oversleep the next day..

Malgant Searches the festival booths for any new vendors he may have missed on the previous day. He also checks back to see if the other merchants have "found" any of the types of rings he had been looking for.

In the evening, he relaxes in the Inn munching o some chicken pie and drinking some of he Inn's wine.

Florin Jadenth
Monday April 30th, 2007 10:14:33 PM

Florin looks over the silver abit more carefully then the stone since he is not a stone worker. After some time he decides and will by a small bar or two depending on the price.

At the stone shop with Bralin, Florin looks over the stones and smiles as he will take a piece of the greenish cast one and one like the one Bralin took also. He will see about getting them in the same size as Bralin asked for since he plans to give them to his sturdy companion anyway.

On the way back to the Inn and such Florin smiles and speaks to Bralin, "This will be my first time working on something myself. I'm thinking of a ring or something like that," Florin also thinks and smiles, "I'm thinking of asking you to craft a small statue for me again but I'm pondering on the design yet or maybe I'll just let you surprise me with something you see fitting. I've always been interested in learning of dwarves, even back in the Float so maybe some animal or structure from your home would be neat." Thinking Florin stops and looks to Bralin, "I do not mean to bring up something you might not wish to talk about but I was curious, does the dwarf home have a hall of lords or such? I think it would be neat to one day visit the land of your people, maybe they can teach me some on my armorsmithing or even silver working."

Florin also has a idea for the ring he will craft.

(Have to look over the rules. I have no clue what rolls I need to make at the moment to have Florin begin work on crafting a plain silver ring.)

Arminas
Monday April 30th, 2007 11:28:55 PM

So we leave on the morrow. Arminas has had enough of the noise and congestion of a festival. He goes and spends time with Ewan, hunting the woods outside of town. It is blissfully peaceful, as the market seems to draw people like flies to manure.

DM Kathy
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 12:20:26 AM

At the market, Florin and Bralin are both able to find materials to work with. [You make mundane items by making a Craft check. You can take 10, if you like. :) ]

Maglant is able to find three more pairs of platinum rings.

Davros and Any buy additions and replacements for their wardrobes, while Arminas prefers to avoid the crowds and the people.

Harvest and Lily simply enjoy the day.

The next morning is damp and drizzly. People seem to get started a little late with their workdays. The square is thick with mud, and the workmen grumble to themselves as they finish dismantling the booths. One by one, the merchants and peddlers roll away, hoods over their heads to ward off the rain.

Autumn has arrived.

Some of the party is in favor of returning to Jarlwolf. Are there any who want to stay on for a bit?

Harvest
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 11:15:43 AM

Harvest rises from the floor after her morning devotion.

"Did you wish to depart for Jarlwolf today, Anthos?" she asks. "I have heard the others speak of leaving soon."

"I would like to see to Fyrda's well being at some time. She is an elderly horse, and I would like to see that she is cared for. If we were to be gone for long, I should not like to see her neglected. Perhaps a place near Jarlwolf."

"I think I will enlist Arminas Calaelen. I will ask him to speak with her and find out where she might like to live."

Lorth
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 11:59:56 AM

Upon hearing that the party is getting ready to return to Jarlwolf, Lorth gets his gear in order and ready to travel.

Any
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 1:29:27 PM

"Yes. I agree it is time to go. The others I think are ready too. It has been good to visit, but we must let the Pitchfork council know all that has occurred. I will get the horses and see if the others are all ready to go."

Moving from room to room, and around the town, Any locates each of the members of the group, asking if they are ready to depart or not. As long as there are no dissenting votes, they make preparations, and leave by midmorning.

Davros
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 3:36:58 PM

"Yes Anthos, I am ready. It was nice to visit, but there is no pressing need for our abilities, and the Pitchfork Council awaits." Davros returns to his room and packs. He thanks Hildy for a wonderful stay, and since she will take no coin from us, Davros leaves several gold coins as a tip for the staff.

Arminas
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 3:52:40 PM

Arminas waits for his companions to be ready to travel. He is outside, with his horse Darkfire. Upon Harvest's request, he casts a spell and starts to whinney and bray.

Darkfire, you are a good horse. If you desire to continue to travel with me it will be an honor. Fyrda, you have done much traveling. Is it time for you to rest? Harvest wishes you to have a peaceful pasture upon which to roam. Do you wish to stay here or near the town Jarlwolf?

Upon answers from Fyrda, Arminas relates the information to Harvest.

"It is good you seek the desire of your horse. Many people would not care for the animal's opinion, or worse think that they would have none. You have shown yourself even more kind and wise than I believed possible for a human."

Arminas looks around, and realizes that his old prejudices have come out yet again.

"Excuse me, you are as kind and wise as any person could be. Even elves."

Malgant
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 5:31:33 PM

A damp and drizzly morning, and yet the prayers and devotions still need to be made. Wearing only his pants and carrying his greatsword Malgant ignores the chill morning and goes a little out from the center of town, somewhere not necessarily secluded but out of the way to say his morning prayers. The motions of the prayer dance come from years of devotion and practice. He starts slowly, trying to clear his mind. He concentrates on the rings he has been able to aquire, knowing that he has not gotten enough and that he will need to leave two of his companions unable to be shielded. He ponders who that should be. Arminas and Lily come to mind, since they would likely be out his reach in most battles, due to their independent fighting style. But the two Paladins are both resiliant and able to aid themselves should the battle go wrong. He has only seen the aftermath of one of their fights, and is unsure if that battle was typical of the Swords of Light. The prayer dance continues, the speed and complexity of the moves quickening. A gentle steam rises from Malgant's now warm body as the drizzle wets his hide. What to do, who should he give the rings to in order that they should be able to be shielded? This place that they travel to next, Jarlwolf, sounds like a place where he may be able to aquire the two pairs he still needs. Should he wait? What if they are assaulted on their way here and he should lose one of his friends because he waited? What if he doesn't wait and chooses wrong and still loses a friend? The questions mount and build into a legion of foes in his mind. Step by step the prayer goes on and the movements of the prayer become still more rapid. Cut, parry, recover, thrust, thrust, step forward, recover, backpedal, coil and finally the last strike and the prayer ends.
Malgant stands rigid in the final pose of the prayer and he has his answer. He looks back and sees from the turmoil on the ground that he has gone over the motions of the prayer more than three times. The questions must have been weighty indeed. Sweat now mixes with the autumn rainwater soaking his hide. Steam rolls off of him as the rainwater cools him. He sheathes his sword and begins the walk back to the Inn for a bath before they depart on the road. As he starts to walk he feels the fatigue leave him and he is refreshed with the decision he has made.
He bathes and dresses, once again wearing his armor and carrying his weapons both old and new. When Anthos knocks he answers the door and agrees that it is time to go. His mind settled he walks out and joins his new friends, ready to set out on the road.

Lily sneaks out to watch Malgant in his prayer ritual. Its not that she is trying to be deceptive about anything, this halfling just always sneaks about through habit. She stays in the shelter of a building to watch.

After his training Lily says to Malgant, "That is some very intense training you do. Perhaps I could spa with you some time. I think it would be quite good for both of to tackle someone so different."

Lily is quite grateful to Hilde for her hospitality and let's her know, "and such wonderful Cinnamon Rolls too." If Hilde will not accept the payment she deserves Lily will slip a few silver coins into the bowl she used for porridge (eaten so thoroughly as to be clean, almost), places this under some of the other bowls and returns these to the kitchen.

"Fare well, Hilde. It has been lovely to meet you. Look after yourself."

Bralin
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 8:44:03 PM

Bralin smiles broadly as Florin also purchases a stone. The smile fades as the paladin asks about halls.
"Aye," he answers. "Each clan has its own hall among the Red Hills. There is a Hall of Kings, but no dwarf has dwelt there for many years."

The dwarf pauses in recollection of some past event, before returning with a start to the task at hand.

"I will think of something suitable for ye," he promises.

As the group gathers for the journey to Jarlwolf, Bralin produces from the stables another light warhorse. This one is brown with white fetlocks, and is encased in studded leather barding.
"His name is Mica," he tells the group. "I hope to serve him better than his predecessor."

Florin Jadenth  d20+3=22
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 10:08:25 PM

Florin when asked about leaving will also reply he is ready when the group is to move on.

Seeing Bralin's looks when asked about the dwarven halls he places a hand on his friend's shoulder and looks to him before speaking, "I know little of your home besides what you tell me and what I have read which is very little, your people are pretty secretive of things. However my friend, I like to share a drink with you tonight. To the old days, things of the past and hope that they might come again. Will you honor me with that request?"

If Bralin agrees and before Florin works with his silver working he sees about getting a decent bottle of wine and heads to Bralin's room, knocking before coming in and shareing the bottle with his friend, talking to him some of the past, of their homes and just of life.

Florin spends his time in his room after getting some food, setting up his silver working tools and such and then getting to work on the ring he wishes to make. Deciding that he would like to make it abit fancier as not just a normal ring.

After a pleasant few days, the group decides to return to Jarlwolf. First Arminas casts a spell to talk to the horses.

"You bet I'm a good horse!" Darkfire replies. "You should ride me more, though. Are we going for a ride now? Can we gallop?"

"I like carrying the little one," Fyrda replies placidly. "I think I can go on doing it. If...if she still wants me."

Bralin turns up with a new horse, whom he introduces as Mica.

Their inn bill more than amply settled, the group sets off. It is a drizzly morning, so it is not ideal travel weather. Even at your unhurried pace, your lower garments are splashed with mud from your horses' hooves. The drizzle lets up by midmorning, and you actually see some sunshine in the afternoon, but the sartorial damage has been done. You are a muddy group when you finally ride up the main street of Jarlwolf.

Lorth
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 8:59:03 AM

Upon reaching jarlswolf, Lorth tell the party he has some business to attend to and will meet up with them shortly.

Lorth takes his leave and heads to his local temple. He says a quick prayer and deposits 10 platinum in the poor box. After that he quickly visits Hmary's home to make sure everything is ok with her and her family, he also gives her 5 platinum coins to help her out. If she won't take it he leaves it on the front porch and rides off.

Lastly he heads into the nearby wood to check on his mother. He stays for lunch and then fills her in on his travels promising to return when he can.

He then heads back to town to meet up with the rest of the party.

Any
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 9:53:00 AM

"Let us get cleaned up and settled in before we report to the council. Perhaps we can find a young lad to take a message to them, letting them know we are in town, and would like to report the results of our task."

Any will look around for a suitable errand boy. With the flip of a silver coin, he asks for the message to be taken. If the boy agrees, he gives him the coin,

"There will be another just like it when you return with their answer. We will be at..."

He looks for a nearby Inn.

"...that Inn. Be quick as you can."

He will then approach the Inn to see if their are rooms available, and if so procures one, and then sees to the stabling of the horses.

When all seems to be in order, he goes into the Inn and requests hot water for a bath, to be followed by a hot meal. He invites all of the group to join him for the meal when they are settled in.

Harvest
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 10:38:48 AM

Harvest Moon would have thrown her arms about the neck of the great and gentle horse. She would have, were Fyrda not so tall and she herself not so short.

Purpose, love and loyalty, it seems, are as great a need as comfort and ease.

Instead, Harvest suffices with a big grin and patting Fyrda high up upon the shoulder. Despite the lack of a common language, Harvest introduces Fyrda to Bralin's Mica, and the rest of the day, the journey to Jarlwolf is delightful even with the mud and rain.

Stomping away the mud and patting it from her leggings, Harvest enters the inn with Anthos.

Arminas
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 4:09:08 PM

Arminas sets out on Darkfire, after getting a helping of oats and a carrot for his horse. The drizzle keeps him close to the group, but he can tell Darkfire is anxious to run. When the sun come out, he gives Darkfire rein and lets him run. Mud flies from his hooves, so while the others have some mud on them, Arminas and Darkfire are covered.

Upon reaching Jarlwolf, Arminas uses a rag and wipes the mud from his horse and brushes him down. Looking towards the Inn, Arminas remembers the finer points of civilized life.

He goes in, and asks for a bath and a meal afterwords. He does his best to clean his clothing and gear, with particular attention to his bow.

Bralin
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 4:40:27 PM

Bralin nods at Florin's request, and invites the elfin paladin in for a drink or three.
"To the Floating City," he toasts. At Florin's gentle prodding, the dwarf opens up (a bit) regarding the current leader of Clan Corrigan, whom Bralin refers to as "that fool Grodan". The clan leader is apparently more administrator than warrior, and, to put in mildly, Bralin doesn't like him much.

The journey to Jarlwolf the next day gives Bralin ample opportunity to work in Mica, and the dwarf takes care to practice his charges and movements. The rain bothers him little, and at the inn he takes care to remove the barding and wipe down his steed before taking care of himself.

In fact, the dwarf would be content to just go eat. But, he's been around Arminas and Harvest long enough to realize others would prefer he bathed first. He dutifully cleans himself off, and then joins the group at the table.

Malgant
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 7:44:42 PM

Malgant regard's Lily as she shows herself after his prayers. He did not leave town to hide his prayers simply to be alone with his thoughts and work his way through them. He considers her offer about sparing and thinks it would be a good idea too. " We are both of such different sizes and fighting styles that I think you are quite right. I have seldom had a chance to spar with someone the size of a halfling. From what I have heard though they can be quite tenacious fighters, very evasive but still able to make their mark on a foe. Also seeing how you normally fight would give me a better sense of how to best help and keep you safe in a fight. I accept."

The road is unremarkable to Malgant, he is geting to see alot of it most recently. He is grateful for the companions he now travels with though. Knowing about the place you are going by having it described by those that have been there is much nicer than walking into the place a stranger. He stops long enough to secure a room at the Inn the plan to stay in and, while the others bathe and recover from the road he heads out to the marketplace to se if there are still any items for sale. If he is able to find a Jeweler he will look for the last 2 pairs of rings he needs and if possible have each of them inscribed with the name of the intended wearer.

OOC
if it is too late in the day to head to the market Malgant will do so at his earliest opportunity.

Davros
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 8:16:01 PM

Davros enters the Inn and having no horse to take care of, takes care of himself. With a wave of his hand and a quick arcane word, his clothes are clean and dry.

"Innkeeper, My companions could use some good food, some good drink, and a warm fire. Are such things to be found herein?"

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 10:29:40 PM

(OOC:I can't remember for sure. Was Jarlwolf where Florin met Ivy?)

Florin calls and rides Ajax which sinks into the mud pretty good with his breastplate on. As he rides along. He knows when they reach Jarlwolf that he is going to have to clean his armor up and such but that won't be overly hard.

At Jarlwolf Florin is happy to finally arrive and will dismiss Ajax before heading to the Inn with the others. Only stopping long enough to help Bralin out also before going.

From there Florin will see to his armor, weapons and just clean up before heading down for a warm drink.

Having arrived in Jarlwolf, most of the party checks into the inn and gets cleaned up. A message is dispatched to Dulcet, to inform the Council of your return.

Lorth has errands that take him elsewhere, but the rest of you sit down at the inn for a well-earned meal. It is stew--a thick, meaty, hearty stew loaded with the season's vegetables. It is served with loaves of crusty bread and pitchers of sweet cider.

After lunch, you have time to visit the famed Catacombs [anybody who has mailed me a receipt now has access to their purchases]. You get word back from Dulcet that the full Council isn't scheduled to meet for a week or so, but she is pleased you have returned.

Jarlwolf is indeed where Florin met Ivy, and the lady herself calls at the inn that evening. "I hope you haven't forgotten me," she says with a mischeivous smile.

In the morning, Bralin enjoys another large breakfast, and heads off to the Catacombs for a purchase or two. By the afternoon, he has shed the crossbow he always carried, but never used. In its stead, a wand sits in a small sheathe strapped to his right thigh.

By this time, the dwarf is anxious to get to the block of granite he purchased the day before. It has been too long since he last indulged himself in his favorite hobby. He goes back to his room, and remains there for several hours. The 'tink' of metal softly hammering against stone emanates from the room.

"I have taken the advice of Arminas, and have made my bow more potent as a ranged weapon.

I would be happy to accompany you my lady. Perhaps I can find a place to practice with my new bow. Now would be a good time, since everything around is wet from the rain. One of the new powers of the bow is to add flame to my arrows as Arminas' bow does. I wouldn't want to start a forest fire. I also want to try to shoot faster at short range, and that will take much practice."

Arminas makes a trip to the catacombs, and returns with a normal looking backpack.

"I've purchased a few scrolls, actually several entangles."

He says with a grin, directed at Lily.

Upon hearing Any's desire to practice with his bow, Arminas asks if he may also accompany them.

"The secret to shooting quickly is to carefully place your arrows in your quiver, so that they can easily be grabbed and nocked. If you face the fletchings all the same direction, you will save a fraction of time, which in turn could save your life."

Arminas looks about for a dead snag.

"Look here, see that knot hole in the snag, I'll see if I can hit it."

Then, to make it more interesting he causes the arrow to burn as it flies from the bow. He lets three arrows fly in rapid succession, the first two bury themselves into the snag (don't know if the rolls are good enough to hit the knot, but they probably came close). The third arrow though glances off the side of the snag and skitters off into the undergrowth.

"Well, even I miss now and then. I guess I shouldn't try and show off, it always seems to go wrong."

When they are done, he whistles for Ewan and goes hunting with her.

Thursday May 3rd, 2007 5:22:42 PM

Still searching for a marketplace or even a permanent jeweler's shop, Malgant roams the city . He often does his in a new place, so that he can learn the lay of the city in case he needs to know it later. He walks around until he either finds a Jeweler, a marketplace or it begins to get dark. By nightfall he returns to the Inn for a bath and some dinner.

Having returned from the Catacombs:

"It's okay, Arminas. I think I will ask Malgant to 'toss' me 'into' the Entangle anyway, within 30' of the enemy, and hit them with these," Lily proudly pulls out two of her own new wands, "This one is Acid Splash and this is Ray of Frost. They don't do much by themselves, but when I hit them in the right spot it packs a punch."
OOC and best of all it is a Ranged Touch Attack with 3d6 Sneak Attack, too.

"And I got this one, Disrupt Undead, for, well, you know what it is for.

"I am beginning to think that these will be more handy than my two short-swords here. Maybe I'll trade them in for more wands."

Florin is over joyed to see Ivy and even more so if she has showed up after he had cleaned up from the muddy trip.

He smiles and takes her hand in his is she allows, "Ahh, I have not forgotten about you. Infact just incase we didn't make it this way again for awhile I asked the elf lady who brought the last message to bring another. Seems that wasn't needed." Florin thinks and speaks to her, "I have a gift for you and also if you will would you mind traveling to the Catacombs with me? I have a package there to pickup."

If the ring Florin has been working on is finished by now then he pulls the handcrafted silver ring, the band having roses like entwined on it and holds it out to Ivy, "Crafted it myself. You gave me a gift, your ribbon and now I give you a gift if you accept it."

Bralin, Arminas, Lily, and Davros all visit the Catacombs for various purchases. On returning, some of them show off their new acquisitions to their friends, while others are conten to tuck their items away and move on to the next thing.

Harvest and Any make plans to visit Meg Thistleburr's lonely farm.

Maglant strolls through town looking for a jeweler's shop. He gets some strange looks from townsfolk, who are clearly unaccustomed to seeing minotaurs in their midst. More than one mother hastily drags her children in the opposite direction at Maglant's approach.

You do find a jeweler/moneychanger/pawnshop, which has one more set of platinum rings that would suit your spell. The proprietor does not make her own items, but can contact a jeweler to create another set of rings, if Maglant is willing to pay half in advance.

Ivy is speechless with delight at Florin's ring. "Oh, Florin, it's beautiful," she says when she has gathered her wits. Eagerly, she tries it on, holding her hand up before her to admire the ring on it. She darts a coy glance at him. "A ring, hmmm?" she says. "Father will be pleased."

Wanting the pairs rings to each be different Malgant purchases the pair that the shop has to offer and is willing to sign a contract for another pair and pay half in advance. He stresses that he needs the other pair of rings soon, in the next day or two at the most. Sensing that the shop proprietor is honest( sense motive of 4) Malgant takes the owner at their word that the rings will be ready in that amount of time. He pockes his copy of the contract and heads back to the Inn to freshen up and get some dinner and discussion with his friends.

Extra clothing, blankets, candles, a cask of flour, a cask of molasses, a haunch of salted beef. Tinder twigs. A crate of apples. Even a small box of candied berries.

Harvest Moon frowns with worry as she walks a circle around the pile of supplies.

"Do you think that there is anything that I may have forgotten, Anthos? Armians Calaelen? We shall have to rent a cart for Fyrda to draw. Do you think she may be lonely through the winter? Perhaps I should see if there is a dog who needs a home."

*sigh*

"Do you think that I worry overly much?"

OoC: Still in the Catacombs. Waiting for service. If you can give me a figure for the supplies above plus cart rental, I'll deduct it from my CS.

OOC--I was out of town Friday. I thought Kelly was going to post for me, but I see he didn't even post for himself. Something must have come up. I'll post now. :o)

"Harvest, if there is anything that you have forgotten, I don't know what it is."

He looks around at the huge pile of supplies, scratching his head. Then, smiling he says,

"I don't see a kitchen sink."

He helps to load everything up, and accompanies Harvest out to Meg's farm.

Arminas
Sunday May 6th, 2007 11:29:30 AM

OOC: Was waiting for Harvest's post before posting for Any. Glad you got back to make it yourself.

Arminas helps load the supplies in the cart, and helps hitch Fryda to the wagon.

"A dog would be a nice help to Meg. I will find one who is ferociously loyal to his master, yet will provide comfort as well."

Arminas then goes in search of a dog, going to the catacombs if necessary. He is in search of a guard dog. When he finds a dog he will cast 'speak with animals'.

There is a woman who needs a strong defender, yet you must want love as well. Do you desire to live on a farm and protect her?

If the dog responds positively, he will purchase the dog (25 gp unless you tell me differently.) He will also purchase a thunderstone for Meg to use in an emergency.

When he has aquired these supplies, he will accompany Harvest and Any to the farm of Meg Thistleburr.

Florin smiles and looks to Ivy. He is glad he has some free time though.

Bralin is able to find an uninterrupted block of time in which to work on his project. It is coming along nicely.

Maglant buys one set of rings and orders another, confident that the shopkeeper will not cheat him.

Lorth and Lily simply enjoy their time off.

Harvest prepares a wagon-load of supplies to take to Meg Thistleburr, assisted by Any

Arminas helps by buying a dog, and speaking to it. The dog proves to be a town dog, who has never seen a farm before. Once the concept is explained, though, he becomes enthusiastic. "That sounds like fun! I think I'll like this farm thing," he says. "And a lady? With no human puppies? That's too bad. I don't mind human puppies, you know, even though they pull your fur. But the farm sounds good. Oh boy, you have to come down here and smell this!" And with that, the dog's attention is diverted elsewhere.

Florin invites Ivy for dinner. "Dinner would be wonderful," Ivy replies. "And I hope you don't have to go off adventuring right away. I..I missed you while you were gone."

Harvest, Any, and Arminas drive out to Meg's farm. You see that here, too, the harvest is in full swing. Two men you don't recognize are threshing grain in the yard. You find Meg in the kitchen, cooking an immense quantity of food, looking busy but happy. She settles you down at the fire with cups of tea, then returns to her work.

"So nice of you to look in on me," she says, vigoriously chopping vegetables for her stew. "As you can see, things are going well. Jav and Oudry have been neighbors for a while, but they're the youngest and won't inherit the family farm. They're just as glad to be able to earn a bit of coin helping me out here." A slight flush to her cheeks when she speaks of the young men hints that perhaps there's more than wages that attracts them to this place. "They'll help me with the harvest, and the spring planting as well. The rest I should be able to handle well enough."

She is delighted with the dog. "Well, now! Aren't you a fine fellow?" she asks, rubbing his ears. The dog gives a little woof! of contentment and begins wagging his tail.

"You are Jav? Oudry? I am Harvest Moon." Harvest places the bucket of water upon the ground and hands the ladle to one of the two young men. "It is nice to see that Meg Thistleburr has good-hearted neighbors." She eyes both as they drink the water, taking in their characters at a glance.

It is good to see that she is doing well and that life is not only proceeding well, but prospering beyond well in the wake of tragedy.

It is good to see the land as well. Harvest Moon slips her hand into Anthos' and takes in the fields that roll up to the edge of the forest at which they had found the bodies of Remo Treadlefoot's guards. She leans toward Anthos, feeling his warmth, his presence. Life heals its own wounds.

"Things are well here, Anthos," she says. "I would wish this for all the Wold."

"We could all wish this kind of peace for the Wold. For now, I fear we must purchase that peace with the end of the sword. Let us return to Jarlwolf and report to the council."

Any helps unload all the goods, and then settles into the wagon for the ride back into town. He brings out his lute and strums a song as they ride along.

Arminas
Monday May 7th, 2007 3:54:35 PM

Arminas is glad that Meg likes the dog, and apparently the feelings are mutual.

"You can choose your own name for him. His real name is very hard for people to pronounce, but sounds something like "GrrrOugFFooooo". Probably best to use something in common though. He is trained to protect, and if you point at someone and tell him to attack he will. Also, if you motion for him to stay, he will guard you. He tells me he loves children, and is patient with them pulling his fur."

Arminas glances towards the farm hands.

"That is if you ever desire to have children. GrrrOugFFooooo will see it nobody touches you without your consent. Oh, I almost forgot. Here take this, it is a Thunderstone. Throw it at the feet of an enemy and it makes a loud blast. It should stun the creature, while you run away. They won't be able to hear you for awhile, so you will have an advantage. Be careful though, don't let your dog or friends be within 10 feet of the blast. I think that's all, good luck with your harvest."

Arminas then swings onto Darkfire's back, and prepares for the trip back to Jarlwolf. Looking up, he is comforted by the sight of Ewan up above.

Not prepared fr Lily's lunge, and not holding a weapon, Malgant is too slow to stop her from raking the back of his leg. Judging from how she moved and where she hit the blow would likely have hampered his movement in a fight. Quite happy to spar with yet another of his new friends Malgant agrees and Finds an open place for them to practice. He did not see any merchants yesterday that might have any practice weapons, but he is confident that he will not hurt Lily fighting with his normal blade. The other priests always sparred with real weapons, learning to pull their blows was the first thing many of them did. Malgant will practice until Lily is tired.
Afterwards he will freshen up and return to the pawn shop to receive the rings he ordered ( If they are done, I forgot how long I said for the pick up date).

Harvest takes a look at Jav and Oudry, and finds them to be good-natured, salt-of-the-earth types. Oudry is bigger and stronger, with a loud laugh and an obviously good sense of humor. Jav is wiry and thoughtful. Both seem smitten with Meg.

Meg listens intently to Arminas's introduction and instructions. "Grrr...." she attempts, but gives up with a laugh. "Will you answer to Buster?" she asks the dog, who responds with a "woof!" Meg looks up at Arminas. "Thank you for your care of me," she says. She looks around at all of you. "I'm touched that you remember, what with the exiting lives you must lead."

On the way home, Any provides a bit of music. You return to the inn as the others are finishing their evening meal.

Maglant and Lily's sparring session has been...interesting, and has drawn quite a crowd. Some of the less charitable among them are laughing at the sight of the big minotaur and the little halfling engaged in combat.

Bralin puts some more time in on his project, and Davros prepares to meet with the council.

Ivy is, as always, a lively and charming companion...and obviously sets a great store by Florin. The two of you linger over dinner, and exchange a few stolen kisses, but things go no farther than that.

It rains for the next few days. At last, you receive word that the Council will be meeting the next day, and would like to hear your report at that time.

Any spends the time waiting for the Council in practice with his bow. He has learned to turn the fletchings all the same way in his quiver. He has also found if he draws two arrows from his quiver at once, he can fire one and have a second ready to fire quickly, allowing him the multiple shots he seeks. There are some mis-steps in his practice, but over all he is definitely getting better.

He is also practicing with his bows other powers, igniting an arrow on occasion, then extinguishing it before the fire spreads. He buys several dozen arrows to replace those that break, or are burned, in his practice.

He asks to join in some of the sparring the others are doing in order to improve and keep his skills sharp.

On the morrow they would go before the Pitchfork Council and tell the of the healthy elfish community begun at Windtree. But, for today, the rainy day is spent in observation of the clerics of Alemi.

Malgant
Tuesday May 8th, 2007 4:33:40 PM

Malgant prays each day, and after his prayers is always willing to spar with his friends. Through these sessions he begins to understand how eah of them fight so that he may compliment their styles rather than getting in their way. He also now has a better idea of how and where he should place himself to be best able to aid them should they get hurt in battle.

Malgant returns to the pawn shop to pick up the last set of rings. Provided that they are there He will ask them all to gather together for dinner the night before the Audience with the Council and will present each of them with their ring. He now wears 8 rings, one on each finger so that when his friends need him he can be there for them.

Arminas
Tuesday May 8th, 2007 5:42:03 PM

Arminas spends his time practicing with Any and hunting with Ewan. When Malgant asks about sparing, Arminas says:

"I don't know if that would work well. Mostly, I would use my speed and entangles to keep away from you and fill you with arrows. Not a pleasant way to spare. Yea, I do carry a sword but I don't think I want the dull side of yours to knock any sense out of me."

Bralin is more than happy to spar with Malgant. Each day, he practices with his war hammer for an hour or so, and then switches to his war axe. Given the constitution of the two partners, the session is likely to continue for a while.

Afterwards, the dwarf retreats back to his room to finish his statuette.

Florin enjoys his evening with Ivy and is in high spirits when he returns to the Inn for the night.

Come morning he spends some time with the group also, practicing and such for awhile.

When Bralin gives him the statue he looks it over and smiles as he nods, "A fearsome looking creature. I've never seen one like it in my life time but there is still time." He smiles and nods thanks to Bralin before offering him the last stone Florin bought, it is one with the green markings in it, "Here you go Bralin. I know you enjoy working with stone so this one is a gift from me to you."

Florin wraps the statue carefully and places it in his HHH for safe keeping.

When the group is ready to meet the council then Florin plans to head out with them of course. He also plans inless something comes up to have another meal with Ivy again but for the moment doesn't say it as he would hate to have something come up to break his plans.

Davros spends most of his time in the intervening days in his room. He is very relaxed and upbeat, enjoying the time spent on his spellbooks and other minor projects. Before meeting with the council, Davros makes a point of speaking with Malgant.

"The gift you offered to me is a great one indeed- offering to protect me at harm to yourself. I wanted to give you a token of my appreciation so I made this for you." Davros hands Malgant a vial with a silvery liquid within. "I learned how to make these during my schooling years, but this is the first time I have made one on my own. Don't drink it, it is not a potion. This liquid will blend with the metal of your sword when you apply it and will temporarily make your weapon act as if forged with silver. It could prove useful against certain creatures such as the vampire we faced in Koshe-Marr."

In the days leading up to the Council meeting, you practice your new skills, exchange some gifts, and spend time getting to know each other and the new town.

In talking to the locals, Lily hears some interesting information about a local lad who has been studying at a well-respected magic school. It seems the boy has made great strides in his studies, which seems to come as a surprise to some.

You arrive at the Pitchfork Council to find them all assembled. There aren't as many spectators at this session; most of the curious have already heard your account and they know that most of the business discussed will be dreadfully dull.

And dull it is. First there is a lengthy discussion on whether the bunting for the harvest festival should be the traditional orange and gold, or whether they should add some green in acknowledgement of the Fae King. Next comes discussion on preparing for floods, blizzards, and other winter weather conditions. Then, of course, there is an extended budget debate. At last, Dulcet nods in your direction.

"And we have some good news," she begins. "The noble adventurers we sent to defend the new elven town have returned, and report that the refugees are now settled. Would any of you like to make a report to the Council?"

Lorth
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 7:57:42 AM

Lorth attempts to stay awake while the council members discuss matters of the state, but to him it is incredibly boring and his eyes droop more than once.

He sits up straight and looks attentive when Dulcet motions to them.

Any
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 10:12:50 AM

Any rises to speak,

"We arrived and began building with no problem, but soon we began to have a series of incidents--attacks to delay and destroy the village before it could even begin. Along the way we discovered, as you know, an underground chamber. This evidently brought the attention of one of Parnoth's minions, a draconian female, who by her own admission, was not in favor with Parnoth. She hoped by her attack on the village to regain that favor. We were able to capture her and many of her band, and the elves dealt out their justice to those attackers, executing the Parnothian and those who would not recant their evil ways, and other punishments for the others according to their spirit of repentance for their crimes. By the time this was all done, the village had reached a point where they could protect themselves, so we returned here to report the events of your commission to us."

Any bows to the Council and sits down,

"If any others wish to add to this, they certainly may."

This is said with a glance at his friends, and the spread of his hand towards the floors open space.

Harvest

Harvest Moon stands and takes her place at the side of Anthos.

"The judgments meted out to the attackers by the elves," she adds, "showed great fairness. Fairness was combined with a firm hand. The elves showed great wisdom that day."

Malgant
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 5:04:14 PM

Malgant Accepts the vial from Davros and thanks him. " I have heard of weapon oils such as this, but I have never seen one. Thank you, I am sure that at some point this will indeed come in handy." Malgant makes sure to distribute one ring to each of his new friends, so that Domi's shield may be cast on them if they are in need. For the council meeting Malgant is not sure what to expect, so he wears his full armor and sword, Polished and parade ready. When he enters the council hall he looks dubiously at the human sized seats and tries to look for something sturdy, perhaps a stone bench near the back of the room on which to rest his armored bulk. He finds the meeting nearly as boring as watching grass grow, but he listens nonetheless. He remembers well the difficult to grasp teachings of the scriptures and the hours he needed to spend rereading them in order to progress as a priest. This is less engageing than that, for the scriptures at least told of the life and times of Domi.

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 8:51:14 PM

Lily is quite grateful to Malgant for his offer of the protective ring. "It's a great gift, thank you. Though, I will try to not use it, if you don't mind."

At the council Lily joins Malgant in his search for a decent seat. She sits quietly through the proceedings, focusing more on the individuals than the meeting as such. In fact, she couldn't relate much of what is said. However, she could detail something of how each felt about the meeting, and possibly how truthful they were.

Later, at dinner with her companions the halfling relates some of the gossip she has picked up around town. Particularly about some interesting information about a local lad who has been studying at a well-respected magic school. It seems the boy has made great strides in his studies, which seems to come as a surprise to some.

Bralin
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 9:05:03 PM

The council meeting begins. Very quickly, Bralin understands he will need to mentally retreat from the proceedings. It is not difficult. Many months of solitude in The Chamber have accustomed the dwarf to finding that spot in his mind where time has little meaning.

The Chamber glows a dull red. Pulsing. Bralin feels the power of the rock beneath his feet. Throom. Throom. Throom. .....

Any is speaking. Bralin blinks. He listens. He has nothing to add, and therefore doesn't.

Arminas
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 11:00:46 PM

Arminas nods in agreement to the words of Any and Harvest.

"The elves are indeed wise. They will make good neighbors."

Arminas also seems uncomfortable sitting and listening during long meetings. He fidgets while the meeting drags on.

Davros
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 11:09:07 PM

Davros wears his courtier's outfit to the meeting and looks very comfortable while there. When it is his turn, Davros gives a long and detailed account of the construction and layout of the town, their primary trades and crafts, their readiness as a trading partner, the excitement of the find and some of the contents, a list of significant visitors to the town while the group was present, their types of crops and style of farming, the preparedness of their warriors(due in no small part to the Swords of Light), and current level of defensive ability. He only glosses over the details of the battles with the raiders. (you get the distinct impression he would rather forget his close call) When he is finished, you are not quite sure who was more long-winded, Davros or the council. But you can say one thing about him, he is thorough.

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 11:12:57 PM

Florin blinks when Malgant offers the ring to him (If I misread then ignore this part.) and speaks to the large taur, "I thank you Malgant, it is a great gift and one I hope I can return the greatness of to you one day." He holds out his hand to Malgant and shakes it.

At the meeting Florin sits quietly, courtrooms and such were not his thing. Yes he was a defender but he seen himself as the battlefield type, not the talking type. His sword was bathed in the blood of his enemies and those he needed to protect and his tongue was not as smooth as some of those about him.

The Council members listen as Any, Harvest, and Arminas address them. There are a few glazed expressions by the end of Davros's discourse, but several of the Council seem to have stayed with him to the bitter end. One or two are even nodding sagely, as if appreciating the thoroughness of his report.

When you have all finished, Dulcet rises. "Thank you," she says. Turning to the Council, she continues. "We agreed to hire these good folk, but we did not agree on a price. It is true that, in the manner of many adventurers, they have found a way to realize some coin from their task. However, in my opinion that does not absolve us of our responsibility to pay for the services we contract. I therefore move that we authorize a payment of 100 gold pieces for each of these adventurers, or a total of 700 gold."

"700 gold! That's outrageous!" cries Garthor of the Hill People. "Why, they found vast riches in that chamber, and my people are struggling to scratch a living from the very rock!"

The hmana representative peers over at you. "These are hnot the same adventurers we hired," he says. "At least, some of them are different."

"Madam Dulcet is right," says Caerthon the paladin. "We made an agreement; we have an obligation. It would be dishonorable to go back on it."

"It's dishonorable to have different adventurers show up for payment than the ones we hired," says the black-haired witch.

Grynntym waves a dismissive hand. "They are the ones we hired," he says, "with a couple of new companions found during the task."

"But we didn't hire them," says the hmana plaintively.

"People of honor pay their debts," Caerthon retorts.

The debate continues.

Harvest
Thursday May 10th, 2007 7:49:12 AM

The small brown girl walks with purpose into the center of the Council Chambers. Quietly, but with clarity, she speaks.

"I thank the Pitchfork Council for my share of their generous payment. I accept the one hundred gold pieces, and I donate them back to the Council to further the Council's worthy causes."

Then she walks, without another word, back to Anthos' side.

Any
Thursday May 10th, 2007 9:43:17 AM

Any smiles at Harvest's statement.

"I did not come to Jarlwolf seeking payment for my services. In fact, there was some debate over whether we needed to report at all, but I too feel amply rewarded for my services already, and will leave my share where it is. As for those who have joined us later, the laborer is worthy of his hire, and the rest can do with any payment offered what they will."

Lorth also declines the money, "I do not require payment.", he says simply.

"Nor I", adds Bralin.

Arminas
Thursday May 10th, 2007 4:16:13 PM

"I also do not desire payment, though perhaps the money could be used to help refugees or to equip your militia. I'm sure the wisdom of the council will find the appropriate use for these funds."

Davros
Thursday May 10th, 2007 5:12:05 PM

Davros agrees with the others. "This task was done for the gain of the elven refugees, not money. I refuse the payment also. I only ask that you remain good neighbors with the new town."

"And for the record, there were no vast riches found in that chamber, and most of those funds that were present were used to pay for construction supplies."

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder

"I would only like to say that I think the council demonstrated some true wisdom in the hire of this fellowship to protect the elves in their fledgling community. The job is done and the elves are ready to stand for themselves.

"I am sure that the council will not see this act of independence as reason to abandon the elves of Windtree Newtown, and I sincerely hope that good ties remain between the two communities.

"I feel a few expectant eyes focused upon myself with in respect to payment. That matter is simple: I was not hired by the council and cannot accept payment. I shall take this opportunity to praise the generosity of the Swords of Light in their noble decision to return their payment to the council, so that it may continue to propagate such wise actions as it has done in the past."

With a little (but not so subtle) flourish Lily returns to her seat, attempting to climb up to the oversized chair in a dignified manner.

Malgant
Thursday May 10th, 2007 7:45:39 PM

As Malgant stands to follow Lily's lead he nonchalantly dips his hand down to unobtrusively give her a slight boost back into her seat. Looking straight ahead at the council he speaks. I too was not hired to protect and nurture the inhabitants of Windtree Newtown and as such would receive no payment for that service. In fact I would not stand before you now, were it not for these brave adventurers. The raiders had taken me prisoner and were going to do Gods know what with me, likely sell me into slavery at some future date. These brave souls saw to it that I will live free a bit longer and so I have thrown my lot in with theirs, since Domi has obviously willed it to be. Thank you." With this last he bows, his horns sweeping forward gracefully, touching not a thing in the large meeting hall. He steps back and takes his seat next to Lily.

Florin Jadenth
Thursday May 10th, 2007 8:39:13 PM

Florin listens to what the others say and thinks before speaking himself, "Like my friends I do not wish the money and ask that it goes to the council here or maybe the elves in which we helped. I'm not a soldier of fortune and though I do work for money sometimes what we went to do this time was something that had to be done. As long as I serve Domi I could not and will not take money for that task you set us out on. The elves needed help and we were asked to help, I see it as simply Domi's guiding hand in this case."

Florin goes quiet now as he has said his peace and looks to thr group hoping he hadn't said something he shouldn't of. As he was thinking to himself, he is a man for the battlefield not for speaking like this.

One by one, you refuse payment. Most of the Council look pleased, though Caerthon still wears a frown.

"Well!" says the witch representative with a smile. "I'd say that's settled."

"Indeed," says the hmana man, with a bow in your direction. "And we thank you very much for your generosity of spirit."

"It does not absolve us of our obligation, as people of honor--" Caerthon begins, but his is obviously the minority viewpoint.

"They said they don't want it," says Garthor.

"We must be practical," Dulcet concurs. "Need is still great in the Valley, and our resources limited. Thank you, Swords of Light, for your kind offer. It is accepted."

There is some more business--none of it much more interesting than what you've heard already--and then at last the meeting comes to a close.

It is late by the time you leave the Council chambers, and a grey-white fog is creeping in. It is an excellent night to be indoors, next to a warm fire, with cheerful company.

It is a pleasant feeling. To have given service to others. The thought reminds Harvest Moon and she looks down once more at the platinum ring upon her finger.

"It is a great thing, Protector Malgant," she says to the minotaur cleric, "to offer yourself in the service of the protection of others. Did you know that Domi was the friend and companion of Alemi before their ascension to godhood? He was a staunch protector."

"Lily Bolger," she says, the lazy evening turning Harvest Moon's mind to other things, "why is it, you suppose, that some people are surprised that this boy you mentioned is doing well in his studies? Even from my time with Lord Gargul, I have had some schooling in arcane magics. I think it would be interesting to speak to this boy."

Any returns to the Inn,

"I believe I will go for a ride before dark. Arminas would you and Darkfire care to join me?"

Regardless of the answer, he saddles Moonshadow and rides around the area of town, just enjoying the peace of the early evening.

On his return he cares for Moonshadow, and enters the Inn, ordering a meal and a large cold ale.

" Perhaps the boy is not well know for being attentive to his studies and for that reason his sucess makes others jealous, or fearful. Maybe, he has found the one thing that he was meant to do, and that is magic. I was never known for my ability in remembering scriptures as I trained in the priesthood. The other priests were not as adept in their martial training as I was. I would practice with them until they understood the martial lessons, far less harshly than our weapons trainer would train them when they were tested on his lessons. They would go over the histories and teachings with me until I could remember them. So yes, I am aware that Alemi and Domi were great friends. so close that they would not be parted easily, even by death. I am not a protector yet Harvest, though I aspire to become one. The church has rituals and sacrifices that must be met before I would be alowed to truely take that title, even though you honor me with it now."

A couple of you are intrigued by this tale of the would-be wizard and his new academic prowess, but without a name it is difficult to learn more.

Harvest contemplates her ring. [OOC: Since the ring itself is not magical, it does not take up a magical ring slot.] She and Maglant discuss the implications of being a Protector.

Arminas and Any take their horses for a run. Moonshadow performs well, but Darkfire was bred for speed, and it shows. The spirited horse seems to enjoy his run very much.

Ivy approaches Florin with an invitation. "The rest of my family would like to meet you," she says. "Could you come over for dinner the day after tomorrow?"

The rest of the town, meanwhile, is gearing up to celebrate the harvest. The innkeeper approaches Any with one of his ideas. "I'd like to have a bardic competition," he says. "Would you be willing to participate?"

"How was your ride?" Harvest Moon asks as she prepares for bed.

"Lily Bolger says that there is a boy in town who is studying magic." Harvest folds her clothing neatly, before placing them to the side. "I did not know that there was a school nearby that taught magic."

"Do you think, Anthos, that you might help me to ask questions about town tomorrow? I would like to speak to this boy about his school."

Taking his arm, she rises up on her toes to touch her lips to his.

" I heard the mention of this young boy, but I didn't put any special note to it. If you want to find out about him, of course I will help you."

The statue completed, Bralin is not yet ready to start another - though he does accept Florin's gift with a grateful nod.

The story of the boy strikes a chord. Privately, the dwarf is still seeking enlightenment regarding his own path - be it the axe or the stone. Mayhap this boy practices a magic similiar to his own.

Bralin is a silent companion to Harvest, absorbing the answers given to her queries.

Florin Jadenth
Monday May 14th, 2007 10:58:58 PM

Florin smiles when he is approached by Ivy and nods to her, "I would gladly meet them." He smiles as he looks to you and will spend some time talking to her as he ponders if he should bring anything, even asking her if he should bring something for the get together. He really feels like I should and also wondering if he should shine up his armor and wear it since he is a paladin.

Florin after seeing Ivy home of course sees to his friends to find out what their up too and find out the latest news.

He smiles to Bralin just glad his friend likes the stone, it wasn't the highest quality but it was a nice color.

Florin accepts Ivy's invitation, and immediately begins pondering the fine points of etiquette. Should he polish his armor? Should he bring something? He realizes that, since this is a dinner invitation, he should probably leave the armor at home. Which, in turn, brings up the question of what clothing would be appropriate.

The rest of the group is intrigued by stories of the magic student, but satisfying their curiosity is going to have to wait for the time being. [OOC: Yes, well spotted, that is the hook for the next adventure. :) However, Jerry hasn't approved the module yet, so we'll need to leave that item on hold for a bit.]

Gossip in town centers on the impromptu bardic competition to be held at the Inn. Rumors are flying that famous bards are arriving from as far away as Plateau City. The innkeeper is busy adding more seating area and bringing in extra food and drink for the event.

Arminas
Tuesday May 15th, 2007 12:10:11 AM

Arminas shrugs off the boy's magic school rumours.

"Everyone has to be something. I think I'll go hunting."

This time he leaves Darkfire in the stable and goes and spends time with Ewan, allowing Ewan to eat what she kills. He has no desire to bring wild game back to the Inn, somehow it seems like it won't be appreciated as it should with a Harvest festival in the works.

Any hears of the Bardic competition. His path has been leading him away from this aspect of his life, but still...the draw to compete, or at least to certainly attend is high. But, if he competes what song should he sing. Should it be an older classic, or a new one of his own composing?

He asks Harvest what she thinks.

I could sing one of the songs I have composed lately, or I could try to write a new one, or should I sing one by another composer? I just can't decide."

The yellow blouse with the dark skirt, a pattern of small white flowers girding the waist, they are her best clothes, purchased in Rowena. To this she adds a the jaunty velvet cap before leaving the Inn on Anthos' arm.

"Can you not prepare the best of each, Anthos? Write one anew, choose one that you have written before, and choose one that is already well known? Then, during the competition, perhaps, after observing the audience, and after hearing some of the other performances, then you could chose one from among the three."

Harvest Moon looks about the street at each boy that passes, wondering if this one or that one might be this mysterious boy who excels at the art of Magic.

"Would that not be a possibility?" She looks up at his face with a smile.

Bralin
Tuesday May 15th, 2007 8:56:47 PM

Bralin returns to his routine. He spars the morning away with Malgant, and spends the afternoon chipping away at the new stone Florin gave him.

While waiting to hear news of the magically gifted boy, Davros spends much time in his room, working on several minor projects. He comes out occasionally to freshen his mind and engage in light conversation or to eat a light meal or listen to a single song by a visiting bard. But he returns to his work soon after.

Wednesday May 16th, 2007 12:36:28 AM

Arminas, grown uneasy again in the confines of the town, decides to go hunting. Alas, the weather does not cooperate, and the misty rain sends most game under cover. Ewan does not care to go aloft in such poor visibility, and spends the day perched on Arminas's shoulder, muttering soft complaints in his ear.

Others in the group prepare for the bardic competition. The townsfolk are glad when they hear Any plans to compete. "We should show these fancy bards that we're not without talent here in Jarlwolf," many of them say.

The day of the bardic competition is again gray and drizzly--an excellent day to spend inside, next to a fire, enjoying good food and listening to good music.

The bards who are to compete draw lots to see what order they will perform in. Any is to go third out of the four. The first up is a gnomish woman, who sings a comic song. She accompanies herself on a small lap-harp, and augments the performance with illustrative effects from a prestidigitation spell. Her audience shrieks with laughter, holding their sides and wiping tears from their eyes. They applaud wildly when she finishes.

Any moves forward when his turn comes, as he steps in front of the crowd, his appearance changes. He now looks like a down-at-the-heels beggar, with patches on his clothes, disheveled hair, slightly gap-toothed, but with a mischievous grin on his face and a glint in his eye. His Lute looks like it is barely holding together, the strings frayed, and the body cracked. With his new look in place he says, with a lower gutter accent,

"My lards and laydies, I'll sing a lay of me wretched life, as I'm sure you've heard before."

He then begins to sing, winking at various members of the crowd at points in his song, and acting the part to the hilt.

A Begging I Will Go

"Of all the trades in the Wold, a-beggin' is the best
For when a beggar's tired, You can lay him down to rest.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.

I got a pocket for me oatmeal, and another for me rye.
I got a bottle by me side to drink when I am dry.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.

I got patches on me cloak, and black patch on me knee.
When you come to take me home, I'll drink as well as thee.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.

I got a pocket for me ... and another for me malt
I got a pair of little crutches, you should see how I can halt.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.

I sleep beneath an open tree, and there I pay no rent.
Providence provides for me, and I am well content.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.

I fear no plots against me. I live an open cell.
Who would be a king then when beggars live so well.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.

Of all the trades in the Wold, a-begging is the best.
For when a beggar's tired, you can lay him down to rest.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go.
And a-begging I will go, a-begging I will go. "

When he finishes, his image fades back to normal, and he bows to the crowd, returning to Harvest's side.

Sparring each morning with Bralin, Malgant is put to the test to keep up with the Dwarf's pace. When asked about the title of Protector, Malgant explains as best he can.
" It is the title of one of the aspects of Domi's faith. To those deemed worthy by Domi to bear the title he grants the power to offer protection to those around him. His presence strengthens their resolve to fight againt difficult odds without losing hope and it also grants them a bit of the protector's own defensive capability. If the defender is faithful to the tenents of his calling it is said that he can even summon walls from thin air to channel his attackers and defend his charges. The protector can do this regardless of whether he is a priest of Domi or even if he has never been schooled in the art of magic at all. The only requirement really is that he be dedicated to protecting those under his care, to the death if necessary."

Arminas sits at a table with Davros, watching the bard competition. He applauds the lady bard, and give a hearty chear when Any sings his beggars ballad.

Drinking a bit of ale, he is in a better mood than he has been for a long time. Davros mentions Any's songs in honor of the Swords of light.

"Davros, what good would an archer be without a suitable target? You played your part well. Perhaps a line about the magician who was so powerful that he drew the fire of a dozen archers? Any, isn't it allowed to expand a bit on the details for a good song?"

DM Kathy
Thursday May 17th, 2007 12:34:55 AM

The bardic competition continues...

The next to compete after the gnomish woman is a human man. He doesn't look like much--balding and stoop-shouldered--but he is dressed well. He carries a small drum.

When he opens his mouth to sing, he has one of the best singing voices anyone has ever heard--strong and clear, with incredible range. He taps on the drum here and there, but sings largely unaccompanied. He has chosen a happy love song, but the sound of his voice hitting and holding those notes brings a lump to the throat of many of his listeners. When he finishes, his applause is thunderous.

Any is introduced to a loud ovation, being the local favorite. He takes the stage in his beggar's rags and sings his begging song. The audience claps in rhythm, and by the end are singing the chorus right along with him. There is laughter and applause when he finishes.

The final contestant is another human man: big, blond, and good-looking. Accompanying himself on a lute, he sings a stirring epic of brave and heroic deeds. It is a fine effort...but it is clearly the weakest performance of the four. Nevertheless, he, too, gest a strong ovation when he finishes.

There is a delay, then, as the judges (visiting dignitaries from various parts of Cinnamon Valley) decide on the prizes. Free food and drink is offered to the competitors. A free ale is offered to anyone else who will perform for the group's amusement while the judges are making their decision.

Lily, looking about for a halfling man, spies not one but three! They are seated at a nearby table, and seem to be traveling together. One of them gives her a wink.

Carrying them carefully she shakes her shoulders to loosen them up, changing the appearance of her clothes as she does so- to her favourite white dress with blue woollen apron and green cloak (to hide her daggers). With her head erect she walks up to the the three halflings to sit down with them.

"My friend Any was the one singing about begging. It's not a bad life that, being free and living by your wits, don't you reckon?"

Sense Motive 9

Arminas
Thursday May 17th, 2007 10:39:26 PM

His poke at Davros was taken in good humor, Arminas smiles broadly. Finally it seems they have a group member who knows how to laugh. He glances towards Lorth and Bralin, and then back to Davros with a smile.

Arminas raises his glass:

"To good friends and laughter!"

Florin Jadenth
Thursday May 17th, 2007 11:14:42 PM

Florin will of went to the competition to see his friend's and also hear Any and the others.
(OOC:This post pending what happens at the family meeting of Ivy's.)

He will also join Malgant and those with him at that table, introducing them to Ivy and any of Ivy's family who might come along, "This is Miss Ivy."

Florin otherwise continues enjoying his time with Ivy and other then talking and listening to her, holding coversations and such he will keep his ears open for anything yet.

Lily goes boldly over to the table where the three halflings sit, and asks them about the life of the open road.

"Well now, I don't know about that," one of them replies. He is the oldest of the three, but by no means an old man. He has intelligent brown eyes and a winning smile. "Seems to me you'd miss too many meals!"

"And too much drink!" adds another, a handsome black-haired fellow. His clothes are more fashionable than those of the other two, and his expression when he looks at Lily is frankly appreciative. "Are those for us, love, by any chance?"

The third halfling is small-even by halfling standards--and brown-haired. He smiles vaguely in Lily's direction, then looks back to where the judges are deliberating.

At last Dulcet, who is among the judges, stands. "May I have your attention please?" she calls out. "Thank you. I am pleased to announce that the judges have at last reached a decision. But before I announce the results, let us thank our fine competitors once again for a truly memorable evening!" The crowd obligingly replies with applause, cheers, whistles, and foot-stomping.

"Thank you!" cries Dulcet with a laugh. "And now for the winner of our competition. Although all four bards performed well, there was one whose performance really stood out. I am pleased to award this evening's prize to...Anthos Westar!"

Wild applause breaks out at the announcement. Dulcet presents Any with the prize--a beautiful harp, made of carved wood. The other bards, seeming to bear no grudge, are among the first to congratulate Any on his win.

Florin is there with Ivy, having faced the terrible ordeal of meeting her family a few days before. Aside from her parents and siblings (whom he'd already met), there were half-a-dozen other assorted relatives, all of whom kept referring to him as "Ivy's young man." One very elderly great-aunt was especially blunt. "So, how about it?" she said, poking at him with her walking-stick. "What are you waiting for, young fellow? Think girls like this grow on trees, do you, hmm?"

Ivy seemed more amused than embarrassed by her family's antics, and joined him for this evening's entertainment. Her mother has come along, but the great-aunt, luckily, has not.

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder
Friday May 18th, 2007 6:51:21 AM

"Yes, yes, yes of course. Let's enjoy these ales together. Here's to good health. Drink up."

Lily sips at her own ale then says- looking more so at black haired fellow, "I hail from the Crescent Valley. I am Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder, though I've found more siblings than truffles, and they are better than I at finding those fungi. And so instead I follow where the road takes me. I live my life from day to day, and that, I find, though risky- I was recently almost eaten by a giant wolf- is quite, particularly for a young girl like myself, exciting, and in varies and frequent ways is," Lily pauses to sip at her ale, not taking her eyes from the black-haired fellow, "rather good for the purse."

"How about you? Do you live here?"

Lorth
Friday May 18th, 2007 8:16:52 AM

Lorth stays in his room, relaxing on the bed.

Any
Friday May 18th, 2007 9:43:32 AM

Rising from his seat, Any goes forward to accept his prize.

"I thank you sincerely for this beautiful harp. I'm not sure if it is entirely deserved, but Domi has seen fit to bless me , and I thank you."

He approaches the other contestants, congratulating them on their performances, and praising especially the gentleman with the beautiful voice. After wards he goes back to Harvest's side, showing her the harp.

"I know how to play a harp, but it is hardly my preferred instrument--too many strings for me. I'm not sure what I will do with it."

Harvest
Friday May 18th, 2007 1:18:20 PM

"It is beautiful." Harvest reaches out to touch the body of the harp. "More than that, it is a symbol of your talent, Anthos."

"If only we had a place to put it."

For the first time the full impact of her vows to the Walkers strikes at Harvest Moon's heart. To walk the roads of the Wold without a home.

"We can place it upon the mantle in our room. I think it will look very nice there." Harvest smiles. "After that, we can decide what to do later."

Bralin
Friday May 18th, 2007 4:23:01 PM

Tis time to move the event along to the drinking.

Bralin calls for a pitcher of ale. He has no intentions of sharing.

Malgant
Friday May 18th, 2007 4:46:45 PM

At Arminas' toast Malgant is only too happy to raise his glass. He listens to the competition and chats in a friendly manner with Florin and his date and chaperone.

Davros
Friday May 18th, 2007 8:36:45 PM

Davros raises his glass of wine and joins the toast. "I'll drink to that. To friends and laughter! "

"It looks as though Lily is causing trouble again."

Arminas
Friday May 18th, 2007 10:21:50 PM

Arminas drinks deeply after the toast, enjoying the company of his new friends. When Davros speaks of Lily, Arminas looks over at her and the three haflings.

"I wish her well."

With that, he orders a round of drinks.

Florin Jadenth
Friday May 18th, 2007 11:50:02 PM

Florin smiles and enjoys his evening with Ivy and also does not mind the company of her mom since she came along. Looking to Ivy he thinks and comments to her, "Seems some of your family thinks I should of popped a question already. I really do not know if I should yet to be quite honest Ivy, I do not know how long till my help is needed again. Also what would you say me leaving to help out in the going ons in the Wold? My vow to Domi is to protect those needing it and when my services are needed I would go to help." Florin looks to Ivy and her mom, smiling and mainly seeing what their replies may be, seeing if he would pop that type of question what type of problems it might cause to his quest to help in the Wold, Florin isn't old enough to settle down yet, to train other paladins but it would be nice to know he had a place to return too, people waiting for him so the idea is a interesting one as is the idea of having Ivy waiting for him. He doesn't comment on any of these other thoughts though not knowing if it was the right time anyway and surely not wanting to just scare Ivy into not wanting to see him no more.

He does glance towards Bralin, Malgant and the others sitting at the table to see what they might say or do over his current comments. Thinking he looks to Bralin and speaks to him, "As leader of our group Bralin and a trusted friend, if one of the group would get married for instance, would it cause a problem in your judgement for the group? You know me well enough to know if it was me I would not abandon the group or take any less risks."

Arminas - 2nd post slightly drunken post
Saturday May 19th, 2007 1:17:03 AM

Arminas almost spills his ale as Florin asks his hypothetical question about marriage. Arminas lifts his glass:

"Problem? Certainly not! Let me be the first to toast the new couple. 'To Florin and Ivy, may they raise many children and goats.'"

Arminas laughs as he drinks deeply.

"I'll even contribute 50 gold to Ivy's dower."

DM Kathy
Sunday May 20th, 2007 9:58:13 PM

"Oh, no," the halfling replies to Lily. "We are travelers, merely passing through. We thought this bardic competition sounded like fun, though, so we decided to stop here rather than pressing on."

Bralin calls for and gets another pitcher of ale. Arminas, too, is celebrating quite vigorously.

"Well, of course, I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do," Ivy's mother tells Florin, blatantly disregarding the fact that the family has done little else for days. "When I was first married to Ivy's father, I traveled with him. Such exciting times! Then Beatrix and Ivy came along, and it became more difficult. So he bought me a lovely house and I settled there. He still traveled, but in between he came home to me and the children. Eventually, he found a position he enjoyed which would keep him with us all the time."

"That's how it worked for us," she concludes. "Everyone is different, of course." She smiles. "Love manages."

Arminas and Davros toast the happy couple, and Ivy laughs along with them.

Eventually, the pleasant evening comes to an end, and everyone seeks their rest.

Lorth
Monday May 21st, 2007 7:35:15 AM

Lorth awakes bright and early and gets his gear together. He checks it over once again from habit, then stowes it all away. He then goes down to the common room for some much needed breakfast.

Harvest
Monday May 21st, 2007 10:01:58 AM

"It is good that Ivy's family accepts Paladin Florin, Anthos." Harvest stands by the side with Anthos watching with a quiet smile. "I have seen many who would not so readily give their daughter to one of another race."

"Peace be with you. I am Harvest Moon," she introduces herself to the mother of Ivy first. "Please tell us of your travels. I am very interested in stories of travel."

Morning comes soon enough. There is always a smile waking beside Anthos. She rolls into his warmth and lays her head upon his shoulder. Soon will be time for devotions to Alemi. Now, though, is the time for devotions of a different kind.

Bralin
Monday May 21st, 2007 10:03:50 AM

By now, Bralin is drinking straight from the pitcher. Arminas calls for a toast, and the dwarf instinctively raises the mug and downs a huge gulp.

After a few minutes, it occurs to him that Florin has asked a question. The dwarf's head rolls over toward the paladin and regards him blankly for a few more moments. He opens his mouth to impart the wisdom of decades of solitude...

"BUUURAAAAP!!"

Nodding sagely at his own advice, Bralin turns back to his drink.

Any
Monday May 21st, 2007 10:08:52 AM

After the competition, Any returns to the Inn for a meal and a drink with his friends. Come morning he says,

"I think I should sell the Harp. It is just one more thing to either carry around, or store, and I really do prefer my Lute.

I feel like it is time to move on. There is a part of me that would like to stay here, but it is only a small part. There is too much of the Wold in need of help from what I have seen, and we seem to be part of that group offering some hope to the common folk of the Wold. I don't know what is in store for us, but I doubt it is anything tame."

The last is said with a little chuckle.

Let's get some breakfast, and talk to the others.

Arminas
Monday May 21st, 2007 3:20:01 PM

Arminas awakes with a headache and a dry mouth. Grabbing his water skin, he takes a long drink and then looks around to get his bearings. He is in a room, probably at the Inn, but how he got here is a mystery. Looking about, it seems his possessions and gold are safe, so he wasn't mugged and thrown into a room.

The last thing I remember was toasting to Florin and Ivy. I hope I didn't say anything embarrassing, but a memory of speaking of goats tugs at his mind.

Arminas gets dressed, and goes outside. Soon, the clean air clears his head. He calls to Ewan and goes hunting.

Davros
Monday May 21st, 2007 3:36:34 PM

Davros eats a light breakfast in his room as he works on some scrolls. The evenings' revelry was enjoyable but there is nothing like writing a few scrolls to waken and invigorate the mind early in the morning.

Malgant
Monday May 21st, 2007 5:08:37 PM

Malgant awakes and finds it a bit later than he normally likes to rise. he gets up and goes outside for his morning rituals and prayers. When he returns to the Inn he finds his friends and asks if anyone has heard any more about this magic student

Lily
Monday May 21st, 2007 8:36:47 PM

In the morning Lily returns to the common room.

"Mmmmm, I am so hungry this morning. What's to eat?"

She scratches at her head through dishevelled hair as she straightens her dress with her other hand.

"What are we up to today, fellows? I feel that I have the energy to climb a thousand mountains, though, I wouldn't mind waiting to see if..." Lily fills her mouth with breakfast and looks off into the distance.

Florin Jadenth
Monday May 21st, 2007 10:47:18 PM

Florin chuckles at Bralin's reply and soon calls it a night after walking Ivy and her mom to their home. Once there he speaks to both of them and smiles as he speaks, "I was hoping tomorrow both of you and Ivy's father and such could come to the place my friends and I are staying. I will be watching for you and thank you for the wonderful evening." Florin smiles to Ivy and gives her a kiss depending anyway.

Come early morning Florin goes about polishing up his mithril breastplate and his shield and other geat as he plans to do this looking like a official paladin of Domi.

With this done Florin takes a bath and prepares himself before strapping on his armor, and his trusty sword Glimmer and walks out, of the room, his shield with the symbol of Domi on it strapped to his back. The only thing he leaves behind is his vizor helmet.

Thinking he goes to speak to a pair of his friends, wanting to get a tad of help with what he has planned.

First he approaches Any, "Any my friend, I need a big favor from you. I have asked Ivy and her family to come here for a speical reason so when they arrive and once their seated here would you be willing to play a nice song for me. Just a nice melody." Florin blushes some at his request for he doesn't explain why but hopes Any will understand his request.

Next Florin moves to Davros, "Davros, this might seem like a waste of magic to most wizards but I need a spot of help from you also. As with Any once Ivy and her parents are seated and Any starts to play could you use some spells to dim the lights, maybe even make the light abit brighter on the balcony area?" (I figured a simple presidigitation spell might do the job but don't know.)

Last he turns to Lily, "Lily, I got a special job for you. I need you to get Ivy and her family to set over here with the group where they will have a good look at the balcony up there. Can you do this for me?"

Florin looks to all the others of the group and is blushing abit now as he speaks to everyone as a whole, "Other then those favors I need just once other. I need you all too try and keep Ivy and her parents eyes off the balcony till Davros and Any start. Thank you and with luck this will turn out to be a very wonderful day indeed."

Once everything is planned and worked out with his friends Florin moves back up to the balcony area and sits in a wood chair up there as he waits and watches for Ivy and her parents to showup, knowing his fortunes the rest of the family will come also to see what Florin has planned.

(OOC:I'll post the rest once I know if this will all work out with the others.)
