Towards the end. (DM Jim)
Saturday April 28th, 2007 12:41:48 AM

To the group the earthen area turns up a couple of clues and a mystery that might soon be solved. To Gilan the earth appears to have once had something planted in it, but what gets his curiousity going is the fact that it seems to have had something pulled out of it. The really strange part is that no prints can be found near the area, though there are some strange marks that could not have been made by human or any beast that he knows of.

As the rest of the group wait for answers they find nothing else out of the ordinary and the trail seems to have gone cold. In fact the drag marks stopped about fifteen feet from this spot and then nothing.

With a little bit more seriousness coming to the pack them continue to move along with Gilan still out ahead of the group about fifty feet. The distance seems to go at a fast pace and soon Gilan is standing in an area of short grass and waiting for the group.

Fourty feet from where he is standing are a group of odd shaped rocks. The grass is well tended, but there are trees spaced about every fifteen feet. These trees are all sickly looking and twisted and bent around themselves, making mocking images of a real tree. Just on the outside boundary of the trees are large stone as tall as a human and three feet wide till it gets to the top, which is partially rounded over. You can see what appears to be carvings in the very rocks of the closer large stones and they have a faint greenish light to them.

In the distance and over what would appear to be a dip in the manicured grass you can hear voices. "The ground is sickening to me...even here it is bad." "I know young one but we cannot do nothing about it as it is a malady of the land that cannot be fixed...that is why we are trying to make you resistant." "But I grow twisted like my brethern and my brain seems to be slow." There are two distinct voices in this conversation and then a third joins in. "We could succeed if Rattledam would help us...but they intend to stop us." The voices are of the following persuasion...female, male and something neither.

-----------------------------------------------

Before you reach the short grass area, three black holes appear in the air near Murdock. They are about a foot in diameter and as black as the blackest ink. Suddenly a gelatinous appendage slowly comes out of the hole and before your eyes forms into what might be called a head. "You would be the one called Murdock." It gurgles at the dark skinned drow elf. Once it has confirmation a new set of appendages come out of the other two holes and slowly form into hands. Sliding through the right gelatinous arm is a small package and through the other arm slides a piece of parchment with a pen attached to it. "Please sign to verify deliver from the CC." The voice gurgles once again at Murdock, handing over the package when the parchment is signed. With that all the things form back into their original forms and slide back into the holes. Soon after the holes themselves close up and there is nothing left.

[Sped things along alittle faster. Sorry for all the more boring posts. Hope this helps out the group in the end. :)]

Flea  d20+9=16 d20+11=13 d20+14=22
Sunday April 29th, 2007 5:32:34 PM

"Hey Gilan," Flea calls after the druid, when the pack presses past the cultivated ground. "You figger something was growing there before? Like a garden, maybe? Or something bigger? Like a tree?"

Flea is resistant to the temperature, but it is hard going through the grass. Each time she lags behind, she clicks the heels of her boots together, activating the magic, and sprinting forward to catch up to her pack-mates. Halting at the sight of the trees. Shrunken and deformed, no doubt, but trees none the less, Flea's eyes grow round. At the sound of voices, she holds a finger up to her lips, and gestures to her friends that she will sneak ahead to scout.

Flea keeps her wits about her as she tries to find out who and/or what, lies on the group's path.

Tishe'  d20+8=27 d20+8=18
Sunday April 29th, 2007 10:57:44 PM

More than anything, Tishe' is convinced that the Red Claw has bad druids working against the land and the trees. But trees in the Sargrass?

Tishe' pulls up a strand of closest Sargrass and approaches the trees to see if they are Druid Trees and repell the Sargrass.

Noting the results of her experiment, she is ready to tell Trellus, but hears the voices and becomes quiet, readying her summoning spell and staff of frost. (Spot;27 Listen:18)

Murdock AC:22 (AC:18 + 4 Mage Armor) 35/35 Hp
Monday April 30th, 2007 9:41:36 AM

Upon seeing the black things appear around him, Murdock cast mage armor, as a reflex. He has seen to many friends sucked into such inky black death, to let it happen to him.

Upon completing the spell, Murdock is even more suprised. He did not order any additional supplies from the Catacombs, or at least he doesn't remember doing so. Feeling a bit foolish for over-reacting, the drow does as he is bid, and signs the parchment in his utilitarian style.

Murdock opens the package to survey its contents as he walks along, but quickly stows the contents in his backpack when the voices become apparent.

The mage, steps closer to Flea, prepared to cast invisibility on the pack's smallest member, maybe she can clarify the situation. Hopefully, Trellus will have the same idea.

Trellus
Monday April 30th, 2007 11:42:21 AM

Trellus keeps silent while the the group works its way through the Grass. He occasionally rubs the amulet hanging from his neck, wondering at its properties. The appearance of the clerk from the Catacombs is a shocker, but fortunately the cleric is able to understand its just a delivery in time, and doesn't cast any spells.

At the rock line, he hesitates only a second before grabbing Tishe and pulling her back.

[OOC - I understand this as grass ends, then rocks a little ways beyond that, then stunted trees beyond the rocks, then a slight depression with voices beyond the trees. Yes?
And the carvings on the rocks are glowing green or the rocks themselves are glowing green?]

In response to Flea's unspoken question, Trellus nods and lays a hand on her shoulder.
"May Domi protect you," he intones in a familiar rite.
[Protective Ward: +9 resistance bonus to next save roll]

He also nods at Murdock's suggestion of using an invisibility spell on her.

He waves everyone except Flea back about 20' into the Grass, so that they are concealed, relying on his Status spell to keep track of the gnome.

Grymash
Monday April 30th, 2007 10:31:13 PM

Grymash hunkers down low and takes a stone or pebble from the ground. Whatever is close by, it doesnt matter. He mutters a few soft words of power. The object glows slightly and fades. All sound around the half-orc seems to be snuffed out. He becomes surrounded in a shroud of silence. He then hands the small object to Flea. Grymash motions with his hands and mouths words that never come. But its obvious what fingers stuffed in his pointy ears mean.

(Cast Silence on an object. 15ft radius.)

Gilan [longstrider, endure elements] and Ciaran [longstrider, endure elements]
Monday April 30th, 2007 10:39:42 PM

Gilan scans the area as others make ready for Flea to check things out. He watches the stones and the trees, a little bit of curiousity mixed in. He has only seen trees a few times on the Plains, the main one being inside Rattledam. "Curious."

Ciaran seems a little agitated as he waits for the group to move or do something. He starts to pace a little, going back and forth.

[Murdock, That was your earlier purchase that we talked about and I almost forgot.]

[The normal tall grass of the Plains stops and becomes nothing but a well manicured lawn. The stones are seated with this manicured lawn runs a few feet behind them. The standing stones are glowing a pale green with the runes slightly darker.]

Of druids and trees. (DM Jim)
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 12:08:51 AM

Flea calls out to her packmate Gilan as she starts back into the grass. She will get an answer once the get to the open area and Gilan does just that as he speaks so that all the group can hear him. He lets you know that it seemed to him that something was planted there and then pulled up or at least that is how it seemed. He had found nothing inside the area though he had dug down a little ways.

Flea moves off to check out and see what is over the little hill and in the dip. With the status spell she does not worry so much as Trellus will know how she is faring. Still the additional protection of the warding spell and then the invisibility is even more comforting. Moving forward she cannot help but feel like someone is watching her but she does not see anything besides the deformed trees and the stones. As she tops the hills she sees a man standing with a woman and....she does a double take...is that a tree? The man and woman are mostly dressed much like her friend Gilan, the woman looking a little more wild with unkept hair and a little dirty. It is the tree though that is the strangest. It stands at least nine feet high and is as twisted as those that stand around the glade, back by the rest of the pack. She is able to catch more of the conversation and she notices a number of statues at the base of the hill, on the side with the tree and people. They are talking of Rattledam and something about an experiment on the Plains.

Back with the rest of the group, they wait patiently. You have the feeling that you are being watched but cannot see anything that could be watching you. Even once back in the grass you still feel as if you are being watched. All you can do is wait and see what comes.

[Flea: Highlight to display spoiler: {"Those in the dip have had visitors from Rattledam but have been taken care off. The man is trying to talk the lady into releasing them but she seems adamant about not doing so. The tree is also argueing for thier release. There is talk of a sickness in the Plains and that this experiment will help the Plains. They are also discussing at one point leaving the Plains and continueing their work somewhere else as the Rattledam council will never leave them alone."}

Jake [Endure Elements 24hrs]
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 1:26:03 AM

At the sight of the trees his spirits rise. His elven blood feeling the life, and sickness. It didnt matter, trees!! He had thought grass would be the only thing he ever saw again before dying.

The moment is lost however. The others have made motions for quiet, and to stay alert. Could only mean trouble. As he stayed guarding the rear, he felt something was watching. Druids, maybe the tres themselves?

Murdock AC:22 (AC:18 + 4 Mage Armor) 35/35 Hp
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 9:27:54 AM

After casting the invisibility and saying some encouraging words to his gnomish friend, the drow sinks back into the grass with the rest of the pack. The tension of the moment is somewhat irritating, as Murdock chaffs under the gaze of unknown eyes.

Trellus
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 8:31:43 PM

Trellus grimaces under the weight of being watched, not unlike the uncomfortable feeling he got in the Oglian caves that they were waiting for him no matter what.

The cleric tries to think of some way to block the watchers, but can't think of anything besides keeping alert.

He spends his time monitoring Flea's relative position and health.

Flea (AC21, 56 HP)(Invisibility, Protective Ward, Hasted)
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 8:55:48 PM

The invisible and mightily protected rogue listens, mouth agape, as the strangers discuss affairs with a...tree..!

Using the speed of her magic boots, the rogue hustles back to her friends, and breathless recounts what she has seen and heard. Invisible, she is recognizable only by her high, light voice. "There is a man, and he is trying to talk a lady into releasing him or somethings. She doesn't want to. A tree is also saying they should be set free! Can you believe it!" Flea's cheeks flush at the excitement, but none witness it in her invisible state. "There is talk of a sickness in the Plains and that some experiment will help the [/i]Plains[/i]. They are also talking about leaving the Plains to do stuff somewhere else. An' they don't like the Rattledam council! The council knows what they're up to and will never leave them alone." An invisible hand tugs on Gillan's cloak she asks, "What-chu figger it means?"

Gilan [longstrider, endure elements] and Ciaran [longstrider, endure elements]  d20+19=37
Tuesday May 1st, 2007 10:48:16 PM

Gilan frowns as he contemplates the question from Flea, that is after he settles himself from her tugging on his cloak. "Geez Flea...not while you are invisible." With a little more thought and consideration he shrugs and decides to give it his best shot. "From the looks of the trees...there is something in the very nature of the Plains that is killing them or twisting them. From what Flea has said I would guess that our guests are druids then and the tree." His brow furrows as he thinks for a few more minutes, going back through all the books he has read. "It has to be a treant...a sentient living tree." Looking to Trellus he shakes his head and laughs lightly. "Surely they know that we are here...we are being watched by something...most likely the trees or stones. The real question becomes, what do we do...talk or fight...since it is only three I would say talk." He does not see the harm in at least giving it a try but he is not sure what the others would think.

Ciaran seems preoccupied with an itch on his rump to pay much attention to anything else.

Much to do about druids and trees. (DM Jim)
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 1:02:38 AM

Flea is just starting to turn around when she spots the two druids embrace each other. She hears one last little bit of conversation till all three turn to look up the hill. She hears the man refer to the woman as his beloved and she is sure they share a kiss as well. Just as soon, she is gone and back to the Bloodpack to report.

There are thoughts and ideas passed around by some, but others seem to be waiting for everything to calm. The whole story would be nice too and that is of course soon taken care of as Flea returns. The feeling of being watch has not left you but it does not feel quite as prevelant.

It appears that the group for once has a big decision to make. For once the choice seems to be fully up to them and noone is telling them what to do. Or as it seems to happen most often, forced into doing.

Murdock AC:22 (AC:18 + 4 Mage Armor) 35/35 Hp
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 2:24:33 AM

Murdock jumps a bit, when he hears Flea's voice. The momentary and unexpectant fright washing over him like a wave. Then he relax's knowing that his little mouse is safe again.

After hearing what the gnome has to say, the drow speaks his mind. A simple statement, and an age old maxim of adventurers everywhere. "I say we go in. Someone obviously knows we are already here. If we reveal ourselves openly and with even nuetrality to the situation, we may be able to accomplish our mission without fighting. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst, thats what I vote." , Murdock finishes.

Tishe'
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 9:14:20 AM

The plain-faced woman pulls at a lock of wavy brown hair, disturbed by the feeling of being 'watched'. She catches herself, then tucks the lock idly behind one ear as she listens intently to her invisible packmate.

"I have always been spinning about why the druids and Rattledam aren't allied against the Barons. I mean, we're all black hands, aren't we? And because the Rattledam Council is so against druids could be the reason that they were so pleased that they separated Gilan from ..." Tishe' stops uncomfortably, even she realizing how Gilan would feel if she metioned the name of his former fiance'.

"Let's openly go and confront them. the pack needs answers, and they may be able to weave some up for us."

As an afterthought she mumbles "I am totally shuttlecocked about stone statues in the middle of the plains, too..."

Trellus
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 4:54:40 PM

Trellus receives the report from Flea - glad she grabbed Gilan. I'm so jumpy I might have fried her on the spot - and rubs the back of head in contemplation.

"I'm with you dudes, I guess. We should probably try talkin first." He grins "just for variety, if no other reason."

The grin fades as he gives Murdock a questioning look. "Can you make Jake invisible, too? That'd give us a couple of surprises while still leaving enough visible folks to keep 'em honest. And Gilan and Tishe, you dudes will need to be ready to counter any bright picks they might try."

Trellus waits for any other comments/suggestions. He's not rushing in this time. If nothing else is forthcoming, he takes a deep breath, "OK, let's see what's weaving here," and he heads up the hill.

Grymash
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 8:27:32 PM

No one took his offering! Grymash, a little miffed that he just wasted a perfectly good Silence spell, spits and bellows out a long string of orcish curses and obscenities. Thanks to his silence spell, none could be heard. At least this act forced out what vexed him. Feeling quite relieved, he crushes the small dirt clod in his over-sized fist. Ending the spell.

Gilan [longstrider, endure elements] and Ciaran [longstrider, endure elements]
Wednesday May 2nd, 2007 9:52:59 PM

Gilan glances to Trellus and looks a little sheepish. "I have no antimagic spells...though I can summon up some assistance if we need it." With a quick thought of what he has at his fingertips he nods. "I can also use the very elements to some of my advantage." He had been trying to ignore the partial comment by Tishe'. It hurt but he gives her a smile anyways as he lays a hand upon her shoulder. "Time will heal it sister."

Ciaran is the only one that is not concerned about anything. He has stopped chewing and is now watching the group with his head cocked to one side. His place is by his brother or someone that his brother asks him to guard.

Negotiation is the name of the game. (DM Jim)
Thursday May 3rd, 2007 1:14:06 AM

With an almost unanimous decision on the part of the pack, the group decides to parlay with the druids and tree. Though they do start to make a few plans before they do anything. Though you get the feeling that any attempt to hide your numbers will not work, invisibility is talked about for at least Jake. It is most likely a fact that they already know exactly how many of you are out here as you have had that watched feeling since you arrived.

Plans are made and set up really fast. You want to at least meet these people on your terms and not theirs. Moving across the open area you can still feel eyes upon you but there is not sense of hate or malice. In fact you can feel a sense of pain in the air. This is true even for those that have no attachment to nature at all. It almost seems to be so thick in the air that you have to wade your way through it.

At last you reach the top of the samll rise that leads down into the small valley. Still standing in the bowl you can see the woman, man and tree. Each is looking to the ridge as if expecting you to come over it any second and you do not fail their expectations. They make no moves and have no weapons drawn as they seem intent to wait on you. To your right you can now make out the rough outline of statues as Flea reported earlier. You can also see that the trees and standing stones seem to continue on around surrounding the area in an almost perfect oval.

It seems the ball is in your court.

Jake [Endure Elements 24hrs]
Thursday May 3rd, 2007 2:18:48 AM

Jake moves with the others. His elven heritage gives him a little, very little sense of the tees pain. He follows, to the left side of the group.

As they top the group starts down the hill, he grips the pommel of his blade. He walks light on his toes. Hopefully, he would not join the ranks of the statues today.

OOC Sorry for not posting, getting a feel for when to post, hehe.

Tishe'
Thursday May 3rd, 2007 9:01:10 AM

Moving with the pack, Tishe' doesn't fail to notice the watching pain coming from the very air. Her face reflects her discomfort, and she vacillates between pulling into herself and reaching out in sympathy.

Keeping much as she can behind her intelligent brown eyes, she stops behind and flanking Jake, her sage green cloak and 'grass pants framing her nondescript figure. She tries to project an air of competency and confidence, yet the feelings of the glade leave her hesitant and unsure.

Equally, Tishe' tries to let the leaders speak first, but her impulsivness gets the better of her. "Such a sad place.", she mourns aloud.

Murdock AC:22 (AC:18 + 4 Mage Armor) 35/35 Hp
Thursday May 3rd, 2007 1:53:46 PM

Murdock shakes his head, indicating that he can not hide Jake, the same way he hid Flea.

The sadness of the area, has a sense of home, for Murdock. The pain permeating the air brings him back to his earliest memories of life inside house Bralfah, as a lone Trizica. Murdock grimaces as those memories, and sets his face for the events soon to follow. What Murdock is unable to hide, is the physical evidence of the turmoil of emotions that has surfaced. A dampness in the eyes, and a huskiness to the voice.

Trellus  d20+8=26
Thursday May 3rd, 2007 3:32:32 PM

Climbing to the top of the rise, Trellus notes the sadness of the area. Its definitely a much different feeling than the dread he experienced enter the cave of the Oglians.

"This is pretty twisted," he mutters as he climbs.

The cleric is pretty sure the druids know how many packmates their are. Fine. As long as they don't know exactly where they all are, he still has a tactical advantage. Plus, he's got a Gry :)

The druids seem to be expecting him. Trellus pauses for a moment, taking in the scene. He nods to himself, takes a big breath, exhales slowly, and then starts down the other side.
He walks with an unhurried pace in a generally northwest direction, coming toward the two druids at an angle. His intent is to get about 30' away from the druids while also getting within 25-30' of the statues - close enough to make out their faces.

After giving the lead statues a once over, he turns to to the druids and raises his right hand in greeting.

"Many shadows. I'm Trellus of the Bloodpack."
He stops. That's enough information for now.

Grymash  d20=16 2d6(6+4)+4=14

Grymash cant help but feel the sorrow of the place. "Is dis be grave grounds? Deep grief be here in da soil. Whut be dis place," asks the barbarian cleric. Grymash tries to drive back the negative vibes by flooding the area with positive ones.

Gilan [longstrider, endure elements] and Ciaran [longstrider, endure elements]
Thursday May 3rd, 2007 11:00:58 PM

Gilan sucks in a deep breath as the sorrow hits him. It seems even stronger this far into the glade and he gets the feeling it is coming from the trees. "It is the trees...I am sure of it." He keeps just to the left of Trellus as they move along.

He makes the same circuit as Trellus and takes not of the statues as well. Features should be obvious unless something has been done to them or they are rough things.

Ciaran is happy just to follow though he seems on edge in the glade. Something is bothering him more than just the being watched part.

Druid woes and council wants. (DM Jim)
Friday May 4th, 2007 1:10:16 AM

Each pack member is affected in their own way by the feeling that is saturating the glade area. Some it brings memories, others it just brings tears and for some it is just a slight bit painful. Grymash sends out a burst of positive energy to see if can stop or drive away the negative vibes. He is struck by something extremely powerful for his trouble and though it does not injure him, it is like getting sucker punched in the kidney. Whatever is causeing the pain to whatever in this glade is an old power...something very old.

Trellus, flanked by the rest of the pack, heads down into the valley. He does so at a slight arc so that he can pass close enough to look at the statues. Those that look or do turn to follow him will notice that most of them are of young women. Trellus makes out in the back of the pack one statue that he knows all too well...his sister and then near the middle, as if the others were trying to protect her, is Malafret. The other pack members that know Malafret will recognize her right away as well and those that know Jenny will recognize her as well. It is true that each of these are actual statues of stone, appearing smooth to the touch and oh so life-like.

Traveling on past, Trellus introduces the group to the two waiting druids and the tree. His introduction is not by individual names but by the name the collective group is known. Now it is time to wait and see what he gets in return for his trouble.

The woman hisses as Trellus gives his introduction but the man holds up his hand to halt anything she was about to say. "Let them speak my love." Her eyes harden as she looks to the group. "You may want to talk to them Flor...but these council pawns will not listen...tainted by lies, half-truths and rigidy." She virtually spits all this out as you can tell she has no love for the council or for those that serve it. Though you might not have expected it, the tree speaks. "The trees talk and these ones are not totally of the council...the walk the way of the grass." His words are cryptic and you are not even sure what he means but leave it at that. The man shakes his head and then turns more fully to the group. "Since you have come to talk, talk we shall. My name is Flor as you might have figured out and this is my wife Faun. Please tell me that you did not come here to kill us as the council wants." He waits for an answer as he studies each of you in turn. His wife though seems more like a caged animal but under the effects of her husband is willing to wait and see. The tree, you notice that it appears to have a face hidden in the bark, sways a little as if bowing. "I am called Rootrot."

"I have no desire to fight any of you," Murdock says, as he moves his gaze to the man, woman and tree., " I have come only to assist in recovering the friends of my pack, indicating the statues." The drow's voice is husky and obviously troubled, but is honest. (Diplo=7 /sigh)

Trellus  d20=9
Friday May 4th, 2007 2:27:19 PM

Trellus's features harden as he recognizes the faces of the statues, and don't get much softer while hearing the venom of the woman. The tree's comment does make him pause -They walk the way of the Grass? What's that mean?

The cleric of Domi attempts to keep his voice neutral, but has difficulty keeping a note of anger out of his response.
[Bluff 9]
"The Council -emphasizing the capital- didn't ask us to kill anybody," he answers stonily. "They asked us to find my...our missing pack."
The blond man can't help but glance over at the statues.

He looks at the woman, and some of his exasperation clearly comes through.
"And if we've been fed half-truths like you said,"
- 'not that THAT would ever happen' his brain fills in sarcastically -
"how bout you fill in the rest so we can understand what's going on?"

Tishe'  d20+12=13
Friday May 4th, 2007 2:52:32 PM

Shocked.

The marble face of Malafret momentarily stops Tishe' like a statue of her own. She has no idea what kind of magic could have done this (Know Arcana: nat 1!), but is fairly certain that these must be the Femme Fatales and not just copies.

Wearing her emotions for all to see, Tishe's immediate spike of anger is pierced and deflated by the automatic venomous response of the woman, Faun. Composing herself, she addresses the woman diretly.

"I also had unthinking reactions towards you when I see our mentor and friends helpless in your midst." She takes a breath to pause. "Perhaps we are both jumping to conclusions. If you tell us what this place is and why it is here and what happened to the Rattledam pack... well, if we talk maybe we won't have so many misunderstandings."

Tishe' tries hard to keep her emotions under control, but it is hard, so hard. Tense with sorrow, shock, anger, and intense curiosity, she is ready to spring to action on little provocation.

Jake [Endure Elements 24hrs]  d20+18=26
Friday May 4th, 2007 3:01:52 PM

Jake listened to his packmates, and understood the anger. He himself felt the hot blood rise. The statues were alarming to him.

"Rootrot? Odd name, but I must then assume you may be responsible for the pain and anguish in the trees around us. Maybe you or the lady here can entertain a group of travelers, a tale perhaps. A tale of what has happened here. It is obvious I am sure we do not represent the 'Council'. As that be, we should share ideas."

OOC Sorry if i dont talk like Jake, just picture him anyway. Think of me as the bad substitute teacher.

How to destone and the story. (DM Jim)
Saturday May 5th, 2007 1:01:10 AM

Murdock goes over what he remembers in his spell from the many days before. As he moves slightly, it all clicks into place. He has the exact look at what he was seeing with his scrying spell, the only difference being that it is no longer fuzzy. Pouring through knowledge gained and things that he knows from study, there are a couple of spells that could have done this. He can also think of a few creatures though he had not thought of it earlier. There is a hint of something magical about the statues and he feels they were at one time living breathing people. He also knows that if that is truely the case that they are not dead but more like suspending in time.

Trellus lays their mission as they were told it by the council out for the three to hear. Part of him has no question that the council was only telling them half the reasons for going here and that might lead him to wonder if they only told the Floral Fatales the same. That could be a reason that Malafret is with them.

Tishe' is no more settled than Trellus but she keeps her cool and asks a few questions of the three and hopes that she will get an answer. Finally maybe a few things will be put straight for the group...that is her hope anyways.

Jake is rather diplomatic with his own ideas on how to get information but his one statement does not go over well as the tree silences everything with a stomp of one of it's feet.

The tree is the first to make any movements or speak. You notice that he has a pair of feet and long legs that are hidden when he is standing. His right foot comes up and then crashes into the ground with much force. "You would dare accuse me of hurting my brothers? All of these trees here have the potential to be like me...but something is twisting them, just as it is twisting me." His eyes blaze with indignation as he leans closer to the pack and Jake particularly. "I am the first and only to awaken and this land did this to me." Pulling back and with what appear to be tears rolling down his trunk, he falls into what could be fits of insanity. "We were to be the first..find the reason and live here...maybe bring a small change." Soon his ramblings are no longer heard and what few words could be caught in a strange language...though there are two that might understand the words...Tishe' and Gilan.

The woman hisses again as he fingers curl and she looks almost on the verge of jumping into the middle of the pack. "You smell of the council and you do its' bidding...do not try to hide it." She is forstalled from saying anymore by her husband. "You will have to forgive my wife...she is pulled by a more animal side...but she is correct." He looks to Trellus and watches the others as he speaks. "The very grasses, though hard to understand, speak of your deeds...as do other allies in your very town." He shakes his had though and then looks to the trees around the glade. "We seek only to bring a little change to the Plains...to give back some of her former glory...nothing more and nothing less.

Glancing to the statues as they seem to be of supreme interest to you he sighs. "I was not here when my wife did this...I was testing the ground in other areas to see how far the taint goes." There is a tinge of sadness in his voice and desperation, almost as if what he found bothers him greatly. "Rootrot here accompanied me as he does most of the testing...he is a treant by the way. He was the first of a new breed of treant, one we had hoped would be able to live here." Looking to the tree you see sadness mixed with guilt upon his face...it is guilt of the pain he has caused one that would be his child.

His wife has went to pacing but she soon moves over to Rootrot and is talking to him lightly. She has a motherly touch as she strokes his bark and you even notice a couple of tears in her eyes and running down her cheeks.

Flor shakes his head and motions to the grass. "Please take a seat and let me explain a little." He seats himself upon the ground and waits for you to do the same before he begins his tale. "It is not a long one, but...it was five years ago now that we came here to see about growing trees upon the Plains again." He stops to have a look at you as a teacher. "You do know that trees once grew on the Plains and not this grass...though it was here as well." He falls back into the story as he waits just long enough for a nod of yes or no. "My druid order of GreenMages said that it could never be done, that there was a taint to the ground here that would never allow trees to grow again. But I was friends with a group of treants and they were also interested in getting brother and sisters here again...it is like a great empty spot to them. So I was given seeds for a new generation and by using magic have been trying to protect them and make minor changes to give them a chance." His gaze turns to Rootrot again and he sighs. "You can see what I have gotten and none of the others have awakened...still they are not growing properly either...Rootrot can feel their anguish, as can any druid." His hands fall into his lap and he hangs his hood in defeat and sadness. "I will have to take them out of here before long if they are to survive or watch them die one by one."

Faun rushes forward, seeming half mad but stops at hear husband and drops to her knees. "No, we will leave before that...our children will not die like this...no more of them will die." She falls into a fit of tears in her husbands lap repeating that same phrase...no more.

Looking to the statues he nods his head. "It is a simple enough thing for me to make the antidote." He quickly goes over what he will be needing in his mind. "It was a combination of gorgon gas and medusa blood that did this." He does not move but waits to see what the pack will do or if they have more questions.

Trellus
Sunday May 6th, 2007 5:10:34 PM

Trellus elbows Jake in the ribs. "Not hel-ping", he sing-songs to the fighter.

Flor and Faun, huh. Well, its obvious who's the dangerous one. Flor speaks of the Bloodpack's deeds being well known. The cleric isn't sure he likes that. Then Flor speaks of Faun turing Jenny into stone. The cleric definitely doesn't like that. So when the druid asks him to sit down, the blond man hesitates.

"I'll sit with you," he responds guardedly. "But since Faun and Rootrot are still standing, I hope you don't mind if some of us stand as well." The cleric's eyes seek out Murdock's, and then flick over to the lady druid and her tree buddy.

After that, Flor tells his story, and Trellus gets seriously confused.
The part about 'You do know that trees once grew on the Plains' causes his mouth to drop open. Flabbergasted, the blond man looks over for some kind of help from Gilan and Tishe. Because he's never heard any such thing, not even in a children's tale.

And THEN, Flor casually mentions an easy antidote and stops. Which sounds to the cleric a whole lot like what he just went through near IronHome.
"And what would you want in exchange for administering the antidote?" he asks carefully.

Grymash
Sunday May 6th, 2007 10:53:29 PM

Still wincing and doubled over in pain, Grymash begins to feel his growing anger clawing out through his agony. Sputtering and spiting he finally stands up from being down on one knee. "Whut become so angry... by Gargul's holy shade.. dat thays strike down da Eye of Gargul?" Grymash becomes steeled in his faith with mention of his lord's name. He stands there defiant to who or whatever attacked him.

Flea
Sunday May 6th, 2007 11:30:59 PM

Flea cautiosly approaches the circle of stones. Her eyes do not fail to recognize Jenna and Malafret, be they stone or otherwise. The rogue keeps her distance from the treant as well, especially once it shakes the ground with one of it's feet.

Jake [Endure Elements 48hrs]  d20+18=23
Monday May 7th, 2007 3:02:35 PM

Jake stands steady throught the outburst of the immature tree. Good information there. Also good information, the woman seemed to think this was her child. Odd the way people acted, turning other people to stone, but loving a tree.

He looks at Grymash not understanding the mans pain. Something must have happened invisibly. Listening to the story he believes theiris soome merit to it.

"All the land to chose from, beautiful, sparse, green. It strikes me as truly odd you would experiment in this local." Jake seems to be stating the obvious.

Murdock AC:22 (AC:18 + 4 Mage Armor) 35/35 Hp
Monday May 7th, 2007 5:43:37 PM

Murdock nods his understanding to Trellus, and remains standing during Flor's telling of this time in the plains. The mage had thought to ready a spell in case Faun became aggressive, but that seemed less like a possibility when Faun collapses into her husband's arms crying.

As the drow's mind latches on and starts ingesting the story, questions immediately arise. Where is the antidote? What is tainting the plains? What is causing this immense feeling of pain and sadness?

To the drow, it is plainly obvious that the woman has been driven half mad by living here. The sadness in the air, would drive anyone to such a state.

Tishe'
Monday May 7th, 2007 6:42:58 PM

Tishe' easily slides into a tailor seat on the ground, and listens intently to the tale. "Didn't Ebyron mention that this place used to be the Sargrass Forest?", she reminds Trellus. And the Grass ships are made from Druidwood, which repells the 'grass and allows the ships to float. And the druid lady we saved with the tree seed, remember Grymash?"

She gazes around the trees and short grasses of the glade. And then at Rootrot. "Are you a druidwood tree? And perhaps the Sargrass covers the land to keep the sickness away?"

She shakes her head making brown locks fly. "There are too many questions without knowing where everything came from!", she spurts in exasperation. Then, mercurial, she demurely folds her hands in her lap.

"Perhaps you should start at threading the loom instead of in the middle of the tapestry?"

Monday May 7th, 2007 6:43:26 PM

Gilan stays standing for a few seconds and then takes note of those that are still standing, sits. As Trell looks in his direction he nods his head. "The Manfri once told us the same story..that was before they sent us on a mission to the coastal city." He watches the woman and starts to get a better idea of some of this. Being a druid he can tell certain things but keeps his mouth shut for now.

Ciaran has moved over to lay his head upon the woman's lap and whines. This would have surprised Gilan to no end but his animal brother has better senses than he does.

Good news. (DM Jim)
Tuesday May 8th, 2007 12:10:04 AM

Flor shakes his head at the look he gets from Trellus as he strokes his wife's head. "You doubt me...I am what is known as a Greenmage and there is no other type of person as skilled with natural herbal medicines as my order." He says it as a statement of fact and not that of a boastful man. He has that same easy smile as he laughs. "I can speak with the grass and the trees...do you not think that they tell me stories of things that go on in their domain and they are all linked so I can get information from great distances." His expression grows serious as he tilts his head to the side to regard Trellus. "There is nothing that you can do for us...it is what your council could do that would matter." He breaks into laughter once again and is joined this time by the treant Rootrot. "They will never help us...they fear change." Looking back to Trellus he continues to stroke his wife's hair and Rootrot has moved off to the side seemingly lost in thought. "Do you want this pack back?"

Rootrot looks up as Grymash gets angry with the sudden backlash of his positive energy. "It is something old in the ground...something that is not evil and yet not of this plane." He closes his eyes and shakes his great head, some of the few leaves falling to the ground as he does. "It makes the ground taste different and it comes from deep below." He cannot explain it any better than that.

Faun sits up and looks to the pack, seeming to have gotten a better grip on herself. "Surely you have seen abberations on the Plains lately...things that are not what they once were." She waits but gets the idea that you have seen things, experienced things that are not right. "The beginning of the thread as you call it is unknown to us...we can only sense the difference in the land...something that even makes the grass here different from any other grass." She gives a half smile as if she is surprised that she is talking to Rattledamers and not fighting them.

Rootrot looks to Tishe' and gets a smile on his barky face. "I am not druidwood but I have been magiced to try and resist this taint that fills the ground here." His hand sweeps to take in all the other trees that grow around the glade and gets a yearning look upon his face. "My brothers and sisters were special seeds, created by magic by the druid order to grow here...we do not seek to do harm but bring at least a few trees to this area." His head turns to regard Tishe' for a few seconds. "There are a number of trees growing in Rattledam...they are not twisted but they do not speak to me....or maybe they cannot speak to me." This brings a pained look to his face as if he cannot believe that a tree would choose that.

Flor and Faun both shake their heads at the idea of the sargrass keeping the sickness away or trapped. "No it has been leaking out in small doses all the time...things born and raised here never notice the difference and never will....but things not born here are twisted." Flor raises his hand to stall any arguements as he makes a change to what he said earlier. "That is not completely true...things born here can change...but it is not natural...it is a abberation or mutation that you are getting." He looks back to Trellus and speaks again. "We will release your fellow pack...but we will not stop our experiment." Faun shakes her head and mutters under her breathe. "The council will never stop trying to stop us."

Murdock AC:22 (AC:18 + 4 Mage Armor) 35/35 Hp
Tuesday May 8th, 2007 10:41:24 AM

As the Greenmages continue, the drow listens intently. At the conclusion, the drow voices some questions. "You say that things not born of this land are effected, but things born here are not? We have seen rapke, born of this land, who are stronger, more powerful, and more malevolent than their predecessors. How then do you explain this change?" The mage pauses, then continues, "...and one thing more. What do you know of the grass ship that was attacked not far from here? The captain seemed a good man, but it is as if the very forces of nature where attacking his ship. The stronger more powerful rapke among them." Murdock pauses again, thinking for a moment, then continues again addressing his final questions to the treant and flor., " Finally, you hold yourself, to be a healer of the land, so I ask you to more specifically describe the Taint that you sense within the land. It is old you say, and planar? But, Do you know what it is, or where it is located?"

With those questions ask, the drow silences himself. Murdock is aware that his questions may inflame the Greenmage's sensabilities, but if they were the cause of the grass ships demise, Pantheon will demand Justice.

"A malevolent evil..." ponders Tishe'. "And you say the Rattledam Council COULD help, but is resistant to change and chooses not to." The small woman makes a wry face. "That last part sounds just like Galafar, but what could the Council do to help. And what can we do to change thier mind? And what makes you think that YOUR experiment is the right one?"

This last statement is made with a bit of doubt, for the druidic powers within Tishe' call to the treant and feel that they are telling the truth.

Then Murdock speaks, and Tishe's mouth hardens a bit, for the dark packmate has a point. What did happen to the ship? "A druid could easily bring flame to the Grass Ship." she says knowingly. (Spellcraft: 30)

Trellus
Tuesday May 8th, 2007 5:19:19 PM

Trellus rubs the back of his head. But that isn't good enough, and the cleric ends up furiously rubbing his temples with each hand.

"OK," he starts, obviously attempting to piece this story together. "There were forests in the Sargrass a long time ago, but some kind of sickness in the land killed all the trees and brought about the Grass. Now you want to bring back trees, and the Council won't let you."

"But everything in the Grass is related to every other thing - its the Circle. What if this 'taint' of yours is the source of our Land? Will bringing back trees destroy the Circle?"

He shakes his head.
"This is too sunbakingly complicated. But we do want our pack, yes."

Murdock bails him out. Something concrete, thats what he needed.
"Yeah, the survivors of the attack on the druid ship were drug in this direction. What do you know of that?"

Grymash scratches his head too. The story is perplexing, but Grymash isnt about to 'over-think' the situation, if that were possible.

"OK," interjects Gry. "Da beaters in Rattledam likes da grass. Yooz dudes likes da trees. Trees come befores da grass. So da beaters brings da grass. Yooz thinks da beaters send da Bloodpack ta kill trees dead, ta keep da grass. But one question... why da beaters like da grass so much an no da trees? Is not da Sargrass big enoughs for both?"

beaters bring da grass?

Trellus had never thought of THAT possibility. He raises an inquiring eyebrow at Flor and Faun.

Gilan [longstrider, endure elements] and Ciaran [longstrider, endure elements]
Tuesday May 8th, 2007 11:13:23 PM

Gilan is likewise a little confused with all of this and thankfully Murdock seems to going to get them a few more answers. He settles on the ground a little more and then shakes his head. "Wait...you said..."That is not completely true...things born here can change...but it is not natural...it is a abberation or mutation that you are getting"...so that would be our friendly rapke that we met?" It would seem that whatever is in the land or is the land is doing something extra to things. But why would nature take this route unless something was not right.

Ciaran continues to lay with his head in Faun's lap and accepts whatever she does to his him. Though he is hoping for a little scratching to his ears, they are itching.

Bits grass. (DM Jim)
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 12:24:23 AM

Flor nods his head as he looks to Murdock with a sense of pride in the man's thinking. "As I said and your druid friend here repeated...my statement was not entirely true...things that were born here are mutationing into something else...I call them aberrations." His eyes flash for a few seconds at the implied idea that they had something to do with the disaster with a ship. "I know nothing of a destroyed ship...but I do know that several passed through the Plains." He looks to his wife who shakes her head about this. Both of them seem genuinely shocked and maybe just a bit angry that you would imply that they destroyed it.

Flor is just about to say something else and Rootrot gets out only part of his warning. "Watch...." A quarrel thuds into the chest of the seated man and he jerks with the impact. You can already see the blood start to well and pour from the wound. Faun is from her seated position to her knees in an instant, cradling her husband. Rootrot is scanning the area for signs of anything but seems to be having no luck.

You hear a voice that is no more than fifteen feet away from you and then three figures appear. Further up the hill are another three figures that have weapons at the ready. You notice the one speaking to be the young woman from the ship, Maria and the other two are also from the ship. What does not click is the change in dress, as each of them is dressed in typical pack gear, but not one that you recognize. "I do believe that you have heard enough...we will take it from here as you have done your job." Her smiles is that of a predator with her favorite toy as she pulls a pair of shortswords.

Faun looks up, a low growl emenating from her throat as she rises. Her eyes have taken on a wild appearance and she does not seem to be in the mood to talk. You can feel power emanating from her as her form slowly begins to melt and reshape into that of a large four armed gorilla.

Jake 59 HP 28 AC [Endure Elements 48hrs]
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 12:58:28 AM

This whole affair was good only for education. Conjecture, and opinions seemed to be rampant with the Tree Druids. The only substancial mark of trust, was that of Cirian the wolf. Jake knew animals generally had a feel for good and bad people.

At the sound of the bolt, Jake leaps up and moves to Tishe's side. He pulls his weapon and takes a defensive stance.

Trellus (ac22, 79/79 hp)
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 8:42:32 AM

Trellus' mouth drops open in horror. In an instant, he understands.

The Council set them up. Sent another pack to follow them and do the dirty work. A pack that killed the Captain, destroyed the ship, and then tricked the Bloodpack into leading them here. Where they plan to kill the very person who can bring Jenny back....

"HALT!"

It more than just a word. It is a Command, and the cleric holds onto the power of that word and directs it with all his intensity toward Maria and her two companions.

[Cast Greater Command at the three figures (including Maria) that appeared closest to the group. Spell has only a vocal component, so should be able to cast from sitting position.
HALT - Subject stands in place. Is not helpless, but can take no actions. Duration 10 rounds, with a Will save allowed each round. Will DC 21 negates]

Murdock AC:22 (AC:18 + 4 Mage Armor) 35/35 Hp
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 10:13:46 AM

Murdock's mind snaps like lightning to the realization that he and his friends have been used as bait to set up this ambush. The mages heart burns in fury at being used in this way, and the focus of his fury is Galafar and the council. For they must have known of this.

The mage begins to cast as arcane energy swirls around him. Murdock waits for mere milliseconds, trying to determine if Trellus's command is obeyed. Then the drow conjures a dome of ice, that surrounds and encapsulates the three individuals up on the hill. Effectively trapping them and removing them from the fight.

My action is based on the assumption that the individuals on the hill are clustered and can be contained with a dome of ice. If this is not the case see my alternate action.

Alternate Action

The mage begins to cast as arcane energy swirls around him. Murdock waits for mere milliseconds, trying to determine if Trellus's command is obeyed. Then the spell is cast, and all of the bloodpack feel their heart's start to pump a bit faster as they are Hasted.

Wednesday May 9th, 2007 6:20:50 PM

Flea's jaw moves, but no sounds come out, as the rogue listens, incredulous, to the story. Slowly the gears whir and thud to the obvious conclusion. The Bloodpack had been duped!

Flea, the spy, doesn't move. Not a hair. Until Trellus barks his command. Only then does the rogue creep...ever so carefully, and ever so quietly...to a flanking position with the weapon bearers.

Gilan [longstrider, endure elements] and Ciaran [longstrider, endure elements]
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 10:17:20 PM

Gilan comes to his feet, his own hackles raising as he sees the whole scheme for what it was. They had been played the fools and now they were suppose to just slink off and let this pack do their job. His shield comes into his right hand and his scimitar into his left as he watches the group closely. "What of the Fatals?" His eyes harden as he tries to come to grips with all of this.

Ciaran has also come to his feet and even now stands at his brother's side. His teeth are bared and he looks ready enough to fight as well.

Tishe' (AC 15 HP 56/56)
Wednesday May 9th, 2007 10:23:11 PM

"Piggies!" curses Tishe', and then there is no time for self-recriminations. From the others' actions, they have felt the exact same as the weaver's daughter, that they've been used as the patsies of the Council. "And if they kill the druids, they convieniently get rid of Malafret, too!", she frets.

And then her hands shoot up with some sparkling dust that she blows towards the three on the hill, centered on the middle one.

The pack falls into a more ready stance. Some of them casting spells and generally preparing, while others go in other directions. The ice forms around those on the hill and then the dust hits it with little effect.

Maria just smiles as she moves the last bit of distance to come up directly in line with Trellus. Her right shortsword cuts in low at the man's legs, while the other ones weaves around[hit: 28 and damage: 9]. "We have an antidote but not sure if you will get to use it."

The man to her right draws a double-bladed sword and in an instant is standing in front of Jake. His blade bites in at the man with some skill[hit: 26 and damage: 14].

The last man cuts to the left and heads towards Tishe', seeing her as a threat as well. His own heavy flail has come out and he does not look happy at all, as he brings it swinging in[hit: 29 and damage: 8].

From the right an arrow comes zipping in at Murdock, but you see noone in that direction if you look[hit: 19/28 and damage: 7/13].

Another series of arrows come flying in at Grymash, but once again the shooter is nowhere to be seen[hit: 29/22/24 and damage: 14/15/15].

From the back left a bolt of pure energy flies in and crackles across Faun, Trellus and Gilan. The energy leaves your hair standing on end and a burnt smell in the air[lightning bolt: 33 damage, Reflex DC 18 for 16].

Faun finishes her change and roars into the sky as she glances to the opponents that have moved in. You notice that she has started into what must be the casting of a spell.

(OOC to DM: Flea would have positioned herself so that when the newcomers (Maria and her pals) would have approached the Bloodpack, the gnome would be behind (flanking) this newer group.)

Murdock's gift of magic invisibility is somehow lifted, but that doesn't daunt the rogue. Oblivious to anything that might block the magic of her special boots, Flea clicks her heels together and dashes at Maria calling out "Domi sends his regards!" The gnome springs from the grass, her holy short sword at the ready. Falling upon the woman attacking the leader of the Bloodpack the rogue catches her unawares. (Hit AC 24, 4 pts dmg + 11 pts dmg if Maria is 'evil' + 11 pts sneak attack/flanking dmg.)

*If her boots work, the rogue gets in a second attack (Hit AC 31, 4 pts dmg +8 pts dmg if 'evil' + 15 pts flanking dmg.) Also, the AC of both attacks goes up +1, and Flea's AC goes up +1.

[Reflex 6, Fort 17]

Trellus has had bad days before, but this one is rapidly moving to the top of his list.

All three dudes he cast his spell on had the willpower to overcome it, all of his own protective spells and items are not working, there are at least four invisible opponents who don't seem to be having that problem, and he's been cut AND blasted...all in the span of a few seconds.

"Gry!" he calls. "We need help here!"

Tishe' (AC 16 HP 48/56)  d20+12=20
Thursday May 10th, 2007 10:04:26 AM

Tishe' sees her glittering column stand ineffectually against the icy dome, but then she has little time for thought when the man with the flail comes after her. She takes a hard blow (Dam:8), and then feels the loss of all her magic. "Anti-magic field!", she shouts(Spellcraft:20), bringing her staff up in a defensive posture (Total Defense: +4 AC), and withdraws towards the grasses behind her (move 30 feet).

Hopefully, she'll be able to disengage and be ready to strike back soon.

Murdock: AC:18 22/35 Hp  d20+17=35
Thursday May 10th, 2007 10:05:00 AM

Murdock dives to the side, avoiding the first arrow as it comes barrelling in at him, but he is not so lucky as the second arrow comes in, and he takes the hit. Grunting in pain.

Then the unthinkable happens, as the thin field that is Murdock's mage armor, flickers out. The mage, long used to the hum of power that surrounds him at all times, feels stripped naked at the loss. Even his trusty quarterstaff seems to have lost it's magic.

The mage thinks on what could cause the problem for an instant before he starts moving. (Knowledge Arcana: 35) As the solution comes to his mind, the brilliant Tishe' is already shouting it out.

Murdock reacts to the antimagic field by falling back toward the grass, figuring that the field is probably centered on himself or Tishe'. He mirror's Tishe' movements falling back with her, but keeping a 10 foot distance between them. If the man with the Flail follows Tishe', the drow is prepared to stand against the flail wielder with her.

So no more magic? That effectively removes me from the fight.

Jake feels oddly at calm. The enemies draw into combat. The man facing him swings his sword and hits Jake squarely. Odd sensation, he knew his armor should have protected him, but it does not, and the blade bites him.

He feels, but does not see Tishe retreat. The man with the flail must have hit her. Knowing the man with the flail would be concentration on her, Jake slides hos sword in at the man twice, using both hands.

Flea finds her feet traveling just fine till she gets within ten feet of Maria and then all her magic starts to fail on her. She is still able to get there and bring her sword to bear upon the woman...but with none of the frills from magic.

Trellus moves off from the fight and brings a flame of judgement down upon the two fighter boys that showed up with Maria. The flames come straight down and then just seem to wink out as they get within ten feet of the two fighters, though the ground that was not in the effect of antimagic are brunt and black.

Tishe' calls out the warning about the antimagic as she backs off. She pulls her staff up to give herself protection. She does feel the unmistakable humm of her magic back though and that is a refreshing feeling.

Murdock has the same thoughts as Tishe' but she calls them out first. He also backs off to stand near Tishe', so that they can deal with any attacks together. He does keep distance between them so that they cannot get hit by some hostile magics.

Jake moves slightly over to cut off the flail wielder, bringing his sword that he cannot feel the power in anymore to bear. His first attack gets through the man's defense but the second attack is turned aside by the man's armor.

Grymash is the one that really cuts off the flail user. He sprints to get in the man's way and finds himself almost beside Jake as he does. His double-axe comes slashing in once and finds purchase on the man's body, leaving a deep cut.

Gilan moves forward to help Flea out as he tries to help in flanking the woman. He brings his scimitar in twice at the woman but finds both his attempts turned away. His wolf has started to circle the battle ground so that he can get into position to make an attack as well.

Faun winks out and then reappears behind were the enemy is at. It appears that she plans to come in from the back upon this enemies that have hurt her husband. The treant Rootrot is not so delicate as he comes straight on at the enemy but is stoped with Gilan in the way.

Maria does not seem to be overly worried about the little scratches she has taken. "If the Bloodpack would leave the field...we can do our job and you can have the antidote." Not sure if you are going to take her up on the offer though she brings her swords diving in at Gilan[hit: 32/24 and damage: 7/4].

The man with the flail seems to stop and think about his situation for a couple of minutes but then brings his flail smashing in at Grymash[hit: 29 and damage: 11].

Twirling his double-sword the man steps up to keep pace with Jake. His dual swords seeking to cut flesh and bone upon the man[hit: 34*crit33*/12/18/32 and damage: 5*crit15*/9/4/4].

From the right come another pair of arrows, but this time they are aimed at Grymash who seems to be the bigger threat in the combat right now[hit: 29/33 and damage: 10/11].

The other unseen shooter from the right sends another volley of arrows but they are aimed at the large tree, Rootrot[hit: 28/21/25 and damage: 8/8/12].

From the left comes a series, five, of tiny missiles that dart and streak towards their intended target, Tishe'[damage: 17]. To those knowledgable in the arcane, this is a magic missile spell.

I dont understand D's Damage for me. what is the total damage Jake takes, sorry confused, hehe.

JimW - The man is trying to hit Jake four times with his weapon. He is able to hit the following ACs: 34*crit33*/12/18/32, the one being a critical. If any of those hit, taking into consideration the loss of magic, than he would take the matching damage as follows: 5*crit15*/9/4/4. Hope that helps out.

As Murdock backs up out of the anti-magic field, he see's his trusty mage armor flick back into existence. So.. he thinks to himself, it wasn't centered on me, but rather on one of them. The mage also observes the fire coming from the grass on the right hand side and the magic coming in from the left.

Murdock makes an intellegence check (Int 22) to determine if the grass in the glade is high enough to be of concern if he set's fire to the taller grass outside the druid's sanctuary.

It is my understanding that the fire from the left and the right appear to be coming from the grasses.

The mage then sends a Flaming Sphere into the edge of the tall grass to the right, where the arrows seem to be originating. Murdock whispers quietly, vengefully, "Maybe your immune to my magic, but are you immune to natures wrath?"

The Drow draws the flaming sphere 30 feet along the perimeter of the grass along the right hand side, intentionally setting fire to the dry grass, in order to force the archers away. (Spot=22) to see the enemies in the grass or movement in the grass.

The poison from the flail attack shudders through the brown-haired spellweaver, and Tishe' feels the weakness. (Fort:18, Str:-2)

And then her magic returns as the missles strike about her body (17 damage)

She turns her back towards Murdock, feeling confidence that he'll take care of the one side and takes a 5 foot step towards the spellcaster that struck her with the magic missles. Lowering her staff, she calls forth a cone to bathe the entire area in freezing cold. (Dam:34, Reflex:19 for half)

She then looks around to Spot the enemy hiding in the 'grass. (Spot:21)

Murdock is sure that he spotted the missiles themselves appear from the air, some five feet above the nine foot grass of the Plains. He quickly decides to put on hold his current plan as it might not have the effect he wants.

Tishe' spots the tell-tale signs of where the magic missiles appeared from. The person making use of the magic must be floating in the air about five feet abover the nine foot grass of the Plains. Her cone of cold freezes the outer part of the tall grass but does not reach far enough to catch anything else.

Flea is not sure about all this magic loss, but her sword just seems to be a masterwork version now. She brings the sword in though at the woman, Maria, again as she attacks Gilan.

Jake is struck again by the sword wielder and feels the bite of the poison as it courses through his body. This weakens him and makes him get a little sloppy in his own attacks.

Trellus falls back from the fight and taps himself with his healing wand. He then drops it into the short grass of the glade and calls out a plan to Jake, who is starting to look pretty bad.

Gilan finds his body shrugging off the poison too easily, but that is part of his heritage as a druid. Though Maria might know it he teases her with the information anyways as he uses his own sword to cut in at her. Ciaran comes in from the back upon the double-sword user his jaws snapping at vital parts.

Grymash tears into the man with the flail with a vengeance, the blood flows from this fight. Grymash is not in the giving mood right now, unless it is his blade that is doing the giving.

Maria curses as she takes a couple more hits. She tumbles past Gilan and stabs at his exposed back as she does[hit: 28 and damage: 6+8]. "We could end this now...just give us the two druids."

The man with the flail falters for a few seconds that it takes him to realize that he is not going to move any more. He pitches forward and lands in the grass of the glade, obvoiusly dead.

The double-sword user notices but does not stop his own assault upon Jake. Even with the new opponent, Ciaran, hitting him from behind. His sword is still attempting to take Jake out of the fight[hit: 26/26/18/31 and damage: 5/8/6/8].

The archer on the right once again fires a pair of arrow off at Grymash, knowing that he is the biggest problem for the group[hit: 35*crit35*/32 and damage: 4*crit25*/11].

The other archer from the right seems to get the same idea as he too puts up arrows to fly at Grymash[hit: 18/19/23 and damage: 12/10/11].

The mage on the left side once fires off another blast of electrical energy into the group and with so many clustered together...several are hit[damage 30; Reflex DC 18 for 15; hits Tishe', Murdock and Trellus].

Faun raises her voice and starts a chant in a strange language. The stones around the perimiter of the glade start to glow an even brighter shade of the sickly green. The glow gets so bright that it hurts the eyes for a couple of minutes...but you also notice that when you can see again the two archers can now be seen.

Rootrot is surprised by the attack upon himself and staggers back a little. He does try to stomp the woman Maria as she comes his direction, but all his foot does is leave a big hole in the ground.

The lightning bolt cracks over Trellus, but the blond man manages to duck away from most of the flame. He'd like to do something about it, but he's got little choice but to leave those arrow dudes and the spellcaster to Tishe and Murdock.

Both Grymash and Jake are down or headed that way, forcing the cleric to make a decision.

He calls out, "Faun, if there's anything you can do to the two sword dude, now would be a good time."

Trellus rushes in, grabs the prone Grymash, and begins pulling him backwards, away from the anti-magic effect.

Previous Round:

Murdock makes an intellegence check (Int 22) to determine if the grass in the glade is high enough to be of concern if he set's fire to the taller grass outside the druid's sanctuary. He dismisses the idea in an instant, instead focusing on another option.

Since you identified that I can approximate where the archers are, I am going to still going after them, so that I do not impact the rest of that last turn. It's hard to go retroactive in a combat without having to re-do something or using future round knowledge. SteveH

Murdock is furious that his magic is being so easily turned aside. The angry mage conjures a tiny red bead and directs it to the exact center of where the last two arrows appeared. Approximately 25 feet above the ground. The calculating drow feels the hate of his ancestry boiling in his blood, as he sends the fireball on its way. The ever calculating mage figures that the spell will detonate outside of the antimagic fields that the archers may have, but the fire caused by the magic, should do its job anyway.

The fireball blossoms from that location, encompassing everything within a 40' diameter in all directions, and doing it's damage. Reaching well into the 9 foot tall grasses. (37 Dmg Reflex 18 for 18 Dmg).

Current Round:

Murdock rolls away from the full force of the lightning bolt (Reflex=24) as it comes in at him. Still, it critically injures him.

The Mage has no choice but to heal himself. The white tangled tatoo's dancing up his arms and neck flare abruptly to a violent blue. The healing energy goes into the mage, helping him to survive another round.

Thursday May 17th, 2007 4:29:29 PM

Electrical energy courses through Tishe' as the brown-haired woman takes the full force of the blow. The stink of ozone is around her and her once wavy hair stands on end from the static.

The enemy pack is too far away for retaliation, and the Bloodpack is still in the ambush. And now, even Jake and Grymash are down... "A pause to regroup", she pants, and holds her Staff.

A dome of ice forms around the Bloodpack, cutting a bare 15 feet from Maria and the sword-wielding man. "Thier anti-magic will open a hole in the dome", she tells Trellus and Murdock, "but it will keep the flankers off of us for a second or two." The 'I hope' is unspoken, but no less heard.

Then Tishe' drops her staff and grabs Trellus' dropped Wand of CMW, ready to help heal.

Jake and Grymash are both out of the fight for now as they both drop from the damage they have taken.

Trellus moves forward and starts to drag Grymash back away from the fight as he calls out to Faun for help in the fight. He knows that right now the group is in trouble and they need all the help they can get.

Last time Murdock had gotten a pretty good idea of where the enemy was at and so he sends a fireball in their direction. He is rewarded as both of his targets are suddenly engulfed in flames from his spell. This time around he relies upon one of his tattoos to heal himself as he is in bad shape.

Tishe' uses her staff to summon up a dome of ice that conceals the pack and part of the enemies inside it. She figures this will give them a chance to regroup as she drops the staff and picks up the wand Trellus dropped earlier.

Though her blade is not functioning as she hoped it would, it is still a sharp blade and Flea uses it to make another strike at the Maria lady. She also starts a rousing battle song that she hopes will help out her friends.

Gilan uses his position to help out Flea and keep Maria busy as the rest of the pack deal with other problems. He is not happy to see two of their number drop but he feels that Trellus and Tishe' will be there to handle it...he has a job to do. Ciaran meanwhile continues to keep the other man busy as he tears into him again with his teeth.

Maria can feel herself getting into a little bit of trouble. It does not matter that she is cut off from the rest of the group, but each little wound adds up. Still she brings her swords back in at Gilan with a furry, then rolls back and towards the ice wall...just as Tishe' had feared[hit: 19/19 and damage: 7/8].

2sword turns on Ciaran and brings his sword biting in at the bothersome wolf. He follows that up with a growl of his own[hit: 24/25/17/34*crit34* and damage: 11/10/10/4*crit12*].

Rootrot roars in anger as he brings his foot stomping down at Maria, only to have her dodge to the side and away from it. He may be strong but he is as agile as a tree.

It is unknown what is going on outside the dowe as it blocks all view. Though when the area of the dome goes away you can see that things will be moving inside soon.

Murdock sigh's feeling useless in the worst sort of way. He knows that we could cause enough damage to stop the enemies of the Bloodpack but the antimagic field prevents him from doing just that. The mage's vast intellect struggles for mere seconds with the problem.(Intellegence Check= 19) Murdock thinks he can cut holes out of the top of the ice dome, causing the rock hard ice to come plumetting down on 'Two Swords.'

I know this is a creative use of a spell, and I do not know if your going to allow it to work. I see no reason why it would not though, and I do not know what type of damage to roll. So I am going to try it, and hopefully you will give me another chance if it will not work. You can decide how much damage to assign. -Steve

Firey energy swirls around Murdock's outstreched hands as a scorching ray cuts the air, impacting the ice dome above two swords, (ranged touch attack=16, Dmg=12) cutting deeply into the ice, with the intent that the frozen block will fall on 'Two Swords' head.

A second later, another beam a firey energy shoots out toward the cieling above Maria's head. (ranged touch attack = 23, Dmg=13)

The normally brilliant mage hopes this use of his magical energy serves it's purpose.

Ciaran whines as he is hit by the man wielding the strange sword. The wounds burn for the briefest of moments and then he tears back into the man, this time biting at him twice.

Tishe' moves over and taps Grymash with the healing wand that Trellus dropped earlier. Though she tries to stay unobtrusive she knows that if anyone is paying attention to her that she is in trouble here.

Trellus lays even more healing into the poor barbarian Grymash as he moves back to get to Jake. He is in luch as the man's attention is drawn by the wolf of Gilan's. He does notice that the only area of the ice dome that is effected is when Maria rolls back towards it...though this by no means tells him too much. It will take him a little longer to reach Jake though.

Murdock comes up with an inventive way to make use of his spells. A ray of scorching fire slams into the top of the ice dome above the sword wielder. He ends up having to make use of both rays in one area to break up enough of the dome to drops some of it on the sword wielder, that and his two opponents are too far away to hit the area near both. The ray, being unpredictable in use this way, brings down a number of larger chunks than was intended and they are now sailing down at both the two sword user, Jake and Ciaran.

Jake finds himself looking up at the come of ice above him, though he cannot move at this time. Near him he can feel the presence of the man that dropped him and something else. From the growling he would say it was Ciaran or Gilan in another form.

Grymash applies even more healing to his battered body as he just barely controls himself from stabbing his packmate Trellus. Fatigue is quickly setting in and he still has more to do.

Gilan rushe at the leader of the pack and attempts to use his own body to push her out the rest of the way and maybe seal up the dome? It is a risky move and one that might spell his own doom. Ciaran has his own hands full as he keeps up on two swords, trying to give as well as he is getting.

Flea takes another swing at Maria but cannot find a place to connect with her body. Her song falters as she sees what Gilan is about to do, but she keeps up singing anyways.

Maria is slammed into by the druid Gilan and she goes flying backwards further out of the ice dome. As the druid follows her out with his own momenteum, the hole in the ice dome closes.

Two-sword can feel the battle going bad for him and he backs off so that he is out of the line of fire. He is struck a number of times by falling ice debris, but somehow still remains upon his feet, though looking rougher than before. You notice that he touches something upon his arm and there is a glow for the briefest of seconds, then some of his wounds seems to pull together.

Rootrot is stunned by all the sudden movement and the fact that he is inside of a dome made of ice. His attempt to squash the pesky little Maria is once again an no go, though he does almost step on Flea by mistake.

Outside the dome all seems to be quiet but you are not sure if that is a good sign or not. Then there is a roar of pain from outside and you know that someone is getting it bad...but that sounded like an animal cry.

I need the posting report done by the ADM please for last week. Email the report to me so I can cross this off my Woldian to do list.

I'm worried about the posting in this game and want to see the report please.

Thanks.

Murdock watches with horror as his plan is overly successful. Chunks of ice not only hit 'two swords' but the incapacitated Jake and the fiercly fighting animal ally of Gilan.

With no other idea's coming to him, the drow draws out his contraption of a crossbow. None of the pack have ever seen the mage use the weapon, and Murdock handles it clumsily.

The drow aim's at 'Two-Swords' with the contraption and starts the crank the handle on the side of the contraption as a bolt shots out at 'Two-Swords'. However, Murdock is disappointed as the bolt goes wide.

Trellus (ac 17, 52/79 hp, -3 STR)  d4=2
Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 4:36:25 PM

There is another one of those heart-stopping moments where Trellus wonders if he's pushed Gry too far, but it passes.

"Gry," he says darkly, nodding toward two-swords, "please kill that dude."
"Tishe, we need to drop the ice dome."

The cleric casts a spell on Jake, hoping to alleviate some of the effects of the poison the elf has absorbed.

"Whaaah!" The gnome tumbles and dodges to avoid being squashed, trampled, or otherwise clobbered by enemies, allies, and flying magical debris while trying to keep an enemy fighter between her and another of the Bloodpack.

Thursday May 24th, 2007 12:01:41 AM

Gilan finds himself with the solid feel of the icedome to his back as he takes a couple of steps back into it. "Well you got your wish idiot." His shields is before him still and his eyes look for signs of the two archers. Still his gaze settles upon Maria who is outside the dome with him.

Ciaran, who is still inside the dome, is not feeling too well himself and he dives around to try and avoid the falling pieces of ice debris. Trying to keep himself alive is all that he is attempting to do right now and makes no moves on the man.

Murdock fires off a bolt from his crossbow at the last man standing inside the dome but misses.

Tishe' moves forward and taps Jake with the healing wand, giving him a much needed boost. She also calls out a fact about the man that wields the double-sword that might interest everyone. Somehow, despite the grass being very short she is able to literally hide herself...mostly as she is ducked behind Jake.

Trellus calls out a request to Grymash about killing the man with the sword and then moves to help Jake out more. His own spell eleviates some of the damage from posion in the poor man's system.

Grymash knows that he cannot charge in his current condition and instead goes to his bow. He fires off a pair of arrows that slam into the man that Trellus asked him to kill.

Flea nowhere near the debris when it comes down but she must instead move out of the way of the large root of Rootrot. She moves to get near the man with the sword, but finds her blade turned away by his armor.

Gilan outside the dome finds himself in a new problem as he searches for the two archers but do not find them anywhere around. He has back up towards the wall and is keeping himself under full cover as he watches Maria, hoping his pack will show up soon.

Maria is mad as she easily flips back to her feet and watches the druid with little concern. "You have spelled your own doom by coming out here alone." She starts back in at the druid but is unable to do much else but close the distance.

Inside the dome two-blade is having problems of his own and he turns on the closest victim, Flea. Once again there is the faltering of magic that Flea had felt just a few minutes ago as something changes around her. Then there is the dual-blades that seek to find her[hit: 25/25/31/27 and damage: 6/5/8/4].

From the hole at the top of the dome there is a flurry of arrows that rain down at Trellus and there is a man floating there[hit: 23/26/23 and damage: 12/11/9].

Tishe' (AC 16 HP 13/56) (Str -2)
Thursday May 24th, 2007 5:26:48 PM

Feeling the cooling effect of healing makes Tishe' look down and see a couple of the angry welts of the magic missles close up (Mass CLW from Trellus) With but a thought, the spellweaver ends the spell that gave the pack some breathing room and the Ice Dome falls.

Seeing the bowman hovering in the air above the group, Tishe' seeks to make it more difficult for the man to fire with impunity. Wart pulls out a small pat of butter from her components pouch, and Tishe' weaves a slippery spell around the man's bow. (Grease: Reflex DC 15 or drop the bow)

She then moves over to Grymash to keep healing him up.

Gilan feels the ice dome disappear from his back and he mentally sighs in relief. That means that his friends are there to support him and he can relax a little more. "I would advise you to leave the field of battle." Feeling that she is not going to fall back he brings his scimitar cutting in at her.

Ciaran moves slowly in on the man with the double-sword. His hackles are back as he brings his jaws snapping shut at the man's leg and jerks.

Grymash (ac22.hp 35/104. spiritual weapon, fatigued, poisoned -2str.)  d20+11=28 d8+1=8
Friday May 25th, 2007 2:08:15 AM

Grymash growls and mutters orcish curses under his breath. The sun-baked treadle didn't bite at his bait. The barbarian priest then bellows out a few words of power, "GRYMASH, EYE OF GARGUL, CALLS OUT SOULCLEAVERS ... DA EXECUTION AXE OF LORD GARGUL!!" A shimmering tranlucent battleaxe comes into being directly over Twoswords. The axe appears as a skull with its mouth open wide, through which a curved axe blade is exhaled like a stream of misty breath. Its handle extends down where the skulls neck would be. The Spiritual Weapon then slashes at the poor unsuspecting villian.

(Spiritual Weapon Attack: HitAC: 28. Damage: 8)

Then with his own double axe in hand, Grymash closes in on the Twoswords to join Flea and his spiritual weapon. (move forward 40 feet)
