DM Kathy Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 12:28:01 AM
The sun returns the next morning, and people go back about the business of harvesting their crops before the weather turns wintry for real.
You hear a few more rumors about the young magic student--the one who seemed to have a sudden improvement in his abilities. His name is Itzal Jerse, and his parents have a large house outside of town. He doesn't seem to have many friends.
Lily Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 7:29:20 AM
Lily, in a very happy frame, complies with Florin. The topic of love brings a flush to her cheeks and she skips about to complete her 'duty'.
Lorth Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 7:41:36 AM
Down in the common area Lorth tries to stay out of everyone's way. He finds a spot to sit away from all of Florin's planning and watches.
Any Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 9:54:28 AM
"I would be happy to play for you at any time."
This is Any's response to Florin, and at the appropriate time he will launch into a well known instrumental piece-soft and lilting.
Bralin Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 10:54:09 AM
Bralin wakes up with a headache, which he rather expected. Grimacing, the dwarf throws some cold water on his face, and works his way downstairs.
Florin has something complicated planned, which Bralin boils down to 'keep everyone off the balcony until Any starts playing'. Simple enough. Bralin plants himself in the middle of the stairway leading up onto the balcony with a loaf of bread and a hunk of ham, and sets to work. He's not all that delicate about it, either.
When the music starts playing, the dwarf picks up and returns to a table.
Harvest Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 11:17:12 AM
Harvest Moon smiles at the preparations carefully and with care laid out by Paladin Florin.
"I will help in any way that I can," she replies. There is a feeling of excitement about these proceedings, a feeling difficult to deny.
Davros Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 4:07:41 PM
Davros smiles at the simple request. "Of course I will help, Florin. It is just the sort of thing we practiced at mage school. To me this is not a frivolous use of magic. It is part of my responsibility as a wizard to use magic in useful and visible ways. This shows commoners and townsfolk that not all magic is bad and some of it can even make ordinary lives less dull and more vibrant. It helps wizards to be seen less as a mysterious and dangerous creatures and more just another part of the Wold."
"I promise I will prepare something special for you."
Malgant Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 5:41:09 PM
After having listened to what was said, and not said, last night at the bardic competition between Lily, Florin, and Lily's mother Malgant has a good idea what Florin has planned for the meeting later this day. He walks up to the barkeep and asks to view the selection of wines that the tavern keeps on hand. Malgant has little knowledge of wines other than that which all Minotaurs were born with. He hopes to find something that will set the mood for Florin. When he has finished this he steps out into the marketplace to see if he can find some tasteful floral arrangements to decorate the interior of the Inn to help Florin further set the mood that Malgan thinks he is trying to achieve. When that is complete Malgnat sits in the common room, away from the balcony, counting on the curiosity of being one of very few minotaurs in town to draw the eyes of Florin's guests away from the balcony without demanding their attention.
ADM Robert: Didn't you mean Ivy, not Lily, above, with regards to Florin?
Florin Jadenth Tuesday May 22nd, 2007 8:03:16 PM
Florin is happy that his friends are willing to help him and vows to thank each of them sometime after what he has planned to do.
Waiting upstairs on the balcony he awaits the arrival of Ivy, for the moment his mind strictly on this for he will concentrate on the kid that the people have been speaking about afterwards.
When Ivy and her parents arrive (he hopes that her father and mother both come) and who ever else might come along, Florin gives a couple moments to calm his nerves before stepping to the balcony.
Florin can't help but smile when Any breaks into playing and Davros aids Florin also with some magic, which if Florin didn't know better he would sware it seemed to get rather warmer up on the balcony too. Florin takes a deep breath before speaking up, standing at the edge of the railing, wearing his polished and shined mithril breastplate and wearing his other paladin articles "I thank you all for being here, some of you not knowing what is going on while others might have a idea. With her parents here and with all of you as wittnesses I Florin Jadenth of the noble house Jadenth of the Floating City and defender of Domi's name, word and law ask Ivy to be my wife and soul mate....Ivy, will you honor me with your hand in marriage? Making my life complete. Will your parents allow us to be united also?" Florin looks to Ivy now as he stands on the balcony, waiting for her reply as he moves just abit to show the ribbon she bestowed on him, tied neatly to his right arm. Florin's also nervous at doing this infront of all the people and worried of Ivy saying no, running out or any of the above so the seconds and mins seem like hours to him.

OOC Yes, I meant Ivy, not Lily....nice catch
Lorth Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 7:18:15 AM
Lorth is happy that his friend Florin has found someone to share his life with. He waits in silence as the cerimony continues.
(OOC: I will be on vacation this friday till June 3rd, JoeK will be posting for me, he's an ADM here in the wold and a friend of mine :) )
The Response (ADM Robert) Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 7:25:59 AM
Ivy, looking expectantly into Florin's eyes, listens intently to his proposal.
She drops her eyes and fidgets a little. Shuffling from foot to foot Ivy takes her time before she raises her head. Her eyes are teary, and she takes a deep breath, saying simply, "Yes. Yes. Yes, I'd love to."
There is a moment of celebration, toasts are made and all hopes focus upon the happy couple-to-be. However Ivy's mother keeps the evening brief, "Come now, Ivy. You've had a big night now, and there are bigger things to do now. It's time to come home."
In the morning the party find themselves together again in the common room sharing breakfast.
OOC: I'll try to keep posting at about the same time Kathy does, though today I was busy in a meeting.
Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 7:34:08 AM
As soon as is reasonable, that is, without stealing too much of Florin's thunder (but definitely a little bit), Lily runs up to hug Florin('s leg). And then Ivy('s leg). "Oh, I am so happy for you, and you. Oh, how I love weddings. Do you think you'll settle here? Will you travel with Florin? Are you expecting? I mean, do you plan to have children? Okay, okay. I should leave you two love birds to be together."
Lily dashes back downstairs trying to find a good viewpoint.
********
In the morning Lily can't help but talk about the proposal. She barely eats her breakfast since that takes up valuable speaking time. Out of the blue she says, "Oh, and, it's a little off topic, but that boy from the magic school- his name is Itzal Jerse - he lives on a minor road south of town. Are you going to wear your armour for the wedding?"
Any Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 10:01:12 AM
Cogratulations are in order, and Any bestows them quickly upon the new couple. When things have settled down a little, he plays a more lively tune, getting the entire tavern involved.
Later, when he and Harvest are alone in their room, he thinks about the events of the day.
"I'm happy for Florin and Ivy. The decision they have made to be joined seems to be the right one for them. I worry though about their future life, especially with the calling he has chosen as a defender of others for his God. Will their life be a happy one, or will sorrow come too early to Ivy as a result. May Alemi and Domi grant them long life and happiness."
Harvest Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 10:14:49 AM
"Many congratulations to you both. And may peace be with your house." Harvest Moon beams at the couple. It is a very happy occasion.
"And I believe that Paladin Florin spoke once of having an adopted daughter." Harvest replies to the concerns expressed by Anthos. "I wonder if he will bring her here now to live or whether Ivy will move to the Floating City to live in Paladin Florin's home there? I think I would like some day to visit the Floating City. It seems a very interesting place."
The next morning, though, at breakfast, Harvest mentions nothing of this.
"You are from Floating City did you not say, Paladin Florin? Will you have the wedding there or will you have the wedding in Jarlwolf? There are many details, I am sure. If you should need help with the making of things or tasks of any kind, please do not hesitate to ask. I am very much looking forward to your day of happiness."
"I think today that I will visit the house of Itzal Jerse," Harvest says at hearing the name of the boy from Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder.
Bralin Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 4:25:18 PM
Bralin toasts his comrade's happiness, and goes to bed.
In the morning, he eats a typically large breakfast. The dwarf nods vigorously in reponse to Harvest's comment about visiting the boy. His mouth is too full even for the customary "Aye", and waiting long enough to empty it doesn't seem to occur to him.
Davros Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 4:50:05 PM
Davros spends the evening livening up the common room. Many dancing lights sporadically dance about the ceiling, and several heatless fireworks burst in the air above. Davros walks about the room refreshing the flowers, chilling drinks, spicing up the food, and displaying small glowing balls of light which float off of his hand and onto others' hands before winking out.
"Florin and Ivy, congratulations to you both!" Davros cheers the couple with a toast and his glass of wine.
The next morning, upon hearing his companions speak of the boy again, Davros responds. "It seems Lily has found out where the boy lives. I will travel with everyone to meet him."
Florin Jadenth Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 10:16:26 PM
The moments seems like hours to Florin but he breaks into a smile when Ivy finally says yes. Florin kisses Ivy gently before she leaves with her mom and looks to the others, "Thank you all for your help and best wishes. I do wish you all to know this won't change me devotion to the group either, you all are just as much family as any other and your lives mean alot to me. I have each of your backs and your help and support today shows me that I can always count on you also."
He chuckles at all Lily's questions and the others and goes about answering them come morning as he enjoys his day now and goes to visit Ivy before night fall to see if there is anything he can do for wedding plans.
In the morning Florin nods at Harvest's comment, "Yes, you are quite right and I plan to see to having Jella brought here to live. I think she will like it. I'm thinking of settling here also when retirement comes. I see Jarlwolf as maybe needing someone to train future paladin's of Domi an the Floating City has my teacher and those he was training. I'm hoping to hold the wedding here also. I doubt my parents will be that interested I will have to see about getting word sent to the Floating City, maybe Arnimas can find a flying friend to take a note to the Domi temple in the Float. With my seal and word they would deliver a message to my family about Jella and my plans. I donated alot there and held quite abit of reputation being one of very few paladins of the temple."
Thinking he nods also to Harvest again, "If we ever get to the Float I will gladly show you all around, it is quite different then most places you will have been to, surrounded by water and a verticle city, not spread out like this one or such but more confined."
Florin looks to the group when he hears the comment about the boy and nods, "I will go also, I'm curious of this kid myself."
Lastly Florin looks to Lily and smiles to her as he thinks, "I haven't really thought of it but being a paladin and since we normally wear our armor to most special events I might wear my armor. Domi will smile upon the union."
Florin looks to his dwarven friend and grins as he has a special task for him come the wedding, "An my good friend Bralin who I have shed blood with and trust with my life the most because we have fought side by side more often. I would like you to be my best man. I have thought of that already. An if Ivy likes I believe we have a priest in the group that could even do the ceremony." Florin turns his eyes to Malgant on this last piece, "All clerics are able to do that aren't they if you so wished? Or maybe Harvest could but I do not know if she would like that idea."
Florin is ready to go see the boy wizard though any time the group is, he just speaking out his plans and getting the group opinions.

Malgant Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 11:29:58 PM
" I, er , Umm, a wedding ceremony ....hmmm. I have never had occasion to perform one, but I am sure that I can find the right passages to quote from, given some time to look over the scriptures. I would be delighted. Too often my calling leads me to seeing the end of a person's life rather than the beginning. I would love to see that change." Upon the name of the magic student being mentioned Malgant switches to that topic. " I would like to meet this lad as well. Rarely do we find the calling in our lives thatsuits us and makes us want to do better at it. it Seems he has found his early."
Arminas Wednesday May 23rd, 2007 11:43:03 PM
"Congratulations Florin. I seem to remember pledging some gold for Ivy's dower. Families need a dower paid upon losing a daughter. Have you inquired of her father as to the amount?"
Upon word of a chance to travel outside of the city, Arminas gets Darkfire ready to travel. Darkfire prances about, ready for a run.
Above, Ewan circles lazily.
To the Jerse house (ADM Robert) Thursday May 24th, 2007 5:45:28 AM
Lily is (perhaps over) excited for Florin and Ivy. Any plays some fabulous melodies to provoke the whole inn to celebrate. Harvest congratulates the happy couple wishing them peace for their life together, and Bralin also toasts them. Davros keeps up the element of 'spectacular' for the evening, so that even the food remains warm and delightfully tasteful. Arminas pledges to contribute to Ivy's dower.
Florin is made very happy by Ivy's acceptance of his offer. He nobly returns Ivy to her mother for the evening. In thanking the Swords of Light for their help he pledges that his commitment to the group is unchanged. He suggests that he will marry here in Jarlwolf, and bring his adopted daughter Jella here from the Floating City.
Malgant is taken aback by Forin's request to perform the ceremony. Though he is used to ceremonies of death the minotaur is sure that he could marry the couple.
Bralin, it seems, will be the best man. Hopefully there will not be food around when the dwarf is required to make a speech. Nor ale.
*********
In the morning everyone is still in a light mood from last night's good news. Lily bubbles forth with (even more) questions and exclamations. She mentions that Itzal Jerse -- the boy featured of late in local rumours -- lives south of the town. This changes the tone of the conversation as everyone agrees that they should go investigate this rumour for themselves. Arminas is first through the door ready for some travel outside.
Standing outside the inn, not too sure about exactly where to go, how to get there, or how long it will take, you overhear two local men talking as they walk past,
"Foxes. Must be a whole fam'ly of 'm moved in 'ere 'bouts. I 'ad three 'ens tak'n this week."
Ewan circles above in the rapidly warming morning air. The streets are busy with people attending to their trades and errands. Men push wheel barrows, women carry baskets, and children run about. Teens loll about in groups either directly in the way of the townspeople or hidden in shadows.
You know that the Jerse family live on a minor road to the south of town...
Lorth Thursday May 24th, 2007 7:40:32 AM
Lorth congratulates Florin as soon as he has a chance. After breakfast he awaits his friends to see if they will be investigating this boy mage. Lorth isn't exactly sure what they are investigating but he goes along none the less.
Harvest d20+2=20 Thursday May 24th, 2007 9:08:23 AM
"Hello. My name is Harvest Moon and we are seeking to visit the Jerse family." The large sleeves of her bulky jacket fall back as Harvest holds up her book of maps. "We have been told that they live upon a road south of Jarlwolf." One small finger circles the area on the page below the pen drawing of a cluster of buildings. "Could you please tell us if you know, the way to reach there?" (Gather Information 20)
Bralin Thursday May 24th, 2007 4:09:11 PM
Bralin blinks in shock a few times after Florin asks his question. He clearly did not expect it. "We have known each other but a year," he replies hesitantly. "Tis a short time, after all. But, if ye be sure, I would be honored to stand for ye."
Afterwards, the dwarf lingers behind Harvest, allowing her to find this spellcasting boy.
Davros Thursday May 24th, 2007 5:04:26 PM
Davros prepares his usual spells in the morning, and then packs his things for the short trip. Once outside he allows his more diplomatic companions to secure directions to the house.
Any Thursday May 24th, 2007 5:21:42 PM
Any prepares the horse while Harvest locates directions to the farm on her map.
When all is ready, he leads the way out of town. If nothing else, it should be a nice ride.
Malgant Thursday May 24th, 2007 7:21:08 PM
Not sure if this trip will lead to danger or just a visit with an apprentice mage, Malgant lingers in his room for a moment trying to decide if his armor would be appropriate. Thinking on the vows of protection he wishes to take and knowing that he is most at ease in his full armor he decides to wear it. With the chill of the fall air beginning to make its presence felt he decides also to wear his full cloak over his armor. With his Greatsword in hand, in its scabbard so as not to catch it on the low ceilings ( for a minotaur they are low at least), he heads down stairs just in time to hear Harvest secure directions to the boy's house and the passing farmers comments. Malgant wonders half to himself and half aloud "This is a fairly settled area, how many foxes would frequent this type of place?"
Arminas Thursday May 24th, 2007 7:46:20 PM
"Foxes are constantly looking for the advantage. If a predator is removed, a fox will take its place. Most likely the farmers have upset the balance of nature, and it needs time to re-establish itself. I'll have Ewan keep an eye out just in case."
Arminas then turns Darkfire and heads in the direction of the student mage.
Florin Jadenth Thursday May 24th, 2007 10:53:10 PM
Florin goes along with the group and lets Harvest do the talking as he looks to Bralin and speaks to him with a smile, "You've covered my back in enough fights for me to know you enough and that speaks volumes for a friend. I trust you with my life and thats why my friend. I feel you deserved to know."
Lily Friday May 25th, 2007 1:14:39 AM
Seeing Harvest ask the locals, Lily steps back and listens carefully as to where to go.
The Jerse home (ADM Robert) Friday May 25th, 2007 1:30:36 AM
Bralin accepts the position of 'best man.'
Any goes to fetch his horse as Harvest inquires of locals as to the directions to the Jerse house.
"I ain't no good with 'em maps, not 'aving seen many of 'em. Don't use much for farming. Guess you lot don't have the back strong 'nuff for farming? You lot don't do much farming, do ya? I'm bit worried that you strap armour onto ya cattle, must be expensive doin' that. Or is this one just a particularly good bull?
"The house you want is 'at way, but take the left fork. Big ol' white house, wit' white fences. Take you nearly an hour by foot.
"Good day to you all."
*******
As you travel along to the house you notice a large flock of small brown birds suddenly take flight from the middle of a field. Some of the houses pull their window shutters as the group approaches. The smell cut grass is still strong in the air, and a few people can be seen working in the fields. Cattle, sheep and horses adorn the paddocks, birds the sky.
After the best part of an hour you see the white fences and white house. It is midmorning, and a lone farmhand in grey overalls tills a small area next to the house with a hoe.
You head towards the front door and the farmhand calls to you,
"There be no-ones home at de moment. Sorry I can't help you further."
Harvest Friday May 25th, 2007 9:51:11 AM
"Peace be with you!" Harvest Moon waves, calling after the helpful farmer. Upon the page of her map she gauges the distance. An hour on foot. Later, tonight she would fill in the road. Perhaps, she thinks to herself, a picture of foxes might be a nice addition, drawn to the side.
How pleasant, to be walking in the nice Autumn weather. It is these days in which a life dedicated to the Walkers can be seen as a blessed calling. Even more so nestled within the company of so many fine friends. And Anthos. To walk beside him brings an indescribable joy to any act.
"Hello," the greeting carries all of the cheer and well-being built within the brown girl from the pleasant trip from Jarlwolf. "I am Harvest Moon. We have come to visit Itzal Jerse. Is this the house in which the Jerses reside?"
Any Friday May 25th, 2007 10:41:30 AM
Harvest has made the first approach. She is definitely less intimidating than anyof the group. Now to see what the response is. He gives and encouraging look as she continues to seek the object of this trip.
Bralin Friday May 25th, 2007 4:24:26 PM
Bralin has donned full armor for the journey. It is simply too far a trip for him to consider otherwise.
The dwarf waits for Harvest to work her diplomacy.
Davros Friday May 25th, 2007 9:52:32 PM
"You know, it occurs to me that we may look rather intimidating to the locals as a large group. It may be best for only a few to approach at a time."
Arminas Sunday May 27th, 2007 9:14:37 AM
Arminas hangs back, letting Darkfire prance about. The ride was much too short, later he will let Darkfire run.
Malgant Sunday May 27th, 2007 11:49:54 AM
Malgant comes to a similar conclusion to Davros' and reluctantly hangs back. He calls to mind the spell that will link his ring to Harvest's since she is quite obviously the group's diplomat.
Lorth (Sub Joe) Monday May 28th, 2007 12:07:41 AM
Lorth stands back with the others, deciding not to interupt Harvest in her dealings with the people in the area.

Floring proposes marriage to Ivy (with a little help from his friends), and she accepts.
And there was much rejoicing.
The party find out that the boy lives on the southern end of town and venture to meet him.
The Farmhand (ADM Robert) Monday May 28th, 2007 6:37:27 AM
The Farmhand looks up to Harvest and responds,
"Yes, dis is de Jerse house, and yes, Itzal lives 'ere too. But dey all be out and 'bouts at de present. Somepink 'bout a party, I reckon. Dey're mighty proud of deir son, ya see. Went and got himself some educashon, and did done do it well, ya see. Earning some grades worth boasting bout, ya see. But dey're nice people, really nice people, ya see. Dey don't go telling everyone bout how great deir boy is at this schooling. First in a long time, ya see, for anyone from here and round nearby to get some of this schooling, in anything, ya see. So dey're 'aving a party. A big 'un, too, I reckon."
With that he puts his hoe into the ripping up the ground again. He has work to do.
A flock of small brown birds suddenly take flight from the middle of a field south of the house. Two people can be faintly heard yelling back towards town.

"Where is this party at, if you wouldn't mind telling us. We would like to congratulate the boy as well."
Any sings lightly to himself, as he walks among his friends, touching each as he passes by. (Message spell for as many as I can include, 6 others I believe, will include Harvest, Lorth, Bralin, Lily, Davros, and Florin since Malgant stepped back and Arminas is on Darkfire to the rear.)
Through the message spell he whispers,
"I have noticed flocks of birds acting strangely. I fear there is more going on than we see."
He will then drop back to Arminas' side and relay this same message, along with,
"Do the actions of these small brown birds seem normal to you?"

Go, check to see what frightened those birds. Look for danger.

"Perhaps something startled them from their rest, Anthos. I heard mention of foxes before we left town."
"Do you think that they may wish to have you sing a song at the party, Anthos?" Harvest Moon grins. "Anthos is the winner of the Bardic song competition," she adds with pride.
Tipping her head to one side, Harvest Moon attempts to pick out the words shouted from the direction of town. Then, a hand raised to shield her eyes from the sky, she peers out into the field to see what might be startling the birds.
(Listen 32, to pick out the words from the voices toward town. Spot 23 to see what might be spooking the birds.)
Lorth (Sub Joe) Monday May 28th, 2007 10:46:25 PM
Lorth begins to look into the distance trying to see what the commotion is. He says "We should go investigate what is going on over there."
Malgant d20+4=22 d20+5=12 Monday May 28th, 2007 11:38:50 PM
Malgant watches the group talk to the farmer and relaxes a bit. The man seems to pose no threat to the seasoned adventures by his side. Hearing the shouting from the direction of town Malgant turn to see what the rucus is about, but fails to make anything out in the distance.
Lily Tuesday May 29th, 2007 6:36:15 AM
Almost involuntarily Lily exclaims, "Oh, a party," before she checks herself. She steps back a little, slightly embarrassed at her own reaction.
Flights of Fancy: A Bird in the Hand or Two in the Bush (ADM Robert) d20+16=29 Hide check Tuesday May 29th, 2007 6:39:13 AM
Any sings a little tune quietly, casting Message on himself and 5 or 6 others. (The Message spell effects 1 creature/level, is your caster level 5 or 6?)
He watches the birds carefully, seeing that that they are small brown birds with white wing tips, about 12 in number. They fly off and settle in a nearby tree.
Harvest suggests that Anthos should perform at this party the farmhand mentioned, though the group has not been invited.
The little monk then focuses on the yelling and can make out that there's two people argumen, both men, clearly discerning only one phrase through the yelling of both people, Highlight to display spoiler: { "I know I lent it to you last fall."}
Harvest cannot see anything of note around the birds or where they were.
Arminas asks Ewan to check out the birds. The eagle flies up rapidly, circling about the field twice before returing to Arminas to squawk, Arminas only Highlight to display spoiler: {"There's a rat out there. Spooked them, that's all."}
Lorth suggests investigating the birds actions, though Malgant seems more interested in the yelling. Lily tries to blend in with the group.
From the street you can more clearly make out where the yelling is coming from: two men are in a heated discussion standing either side of a dry stone wall separating cleared fields for crops, about 100 feet from the road. It is on the way back to town, a few hundred feet away.
Do you want to investigate the birds? or approach these two arguing (directly, deliberately avoid them, or something in between)?
Harvest d20+15=21 Tuesday May 29th, 2007 9:08:52 AM
"It is an argument over a thing one neighbor lent to another, Protec ... Malgant." Harvest Moon looks way up to the heights of the minotaur as he gazes off in the direction of the voices.
"Do you believe there is something amiss, Anthos? I will be but a moment."
"Excuse me, please," she addresses the man working with his hoe, "I know that you are busy, but if I might interrupt to ask a few quick questions. We have come this way from Jarlwolf to speak to the boy and his parents of the study of magic. I did not know there was a school for magic so close to this place. Can you tell me about the boy and the Jerse family? Do they farm as most people here seem to do?"

He rides Moonshadow quickly to where they are standing .

"I'm going to have a quick gallop over the field here, to double check the birds out. Ewan says it is only a rat that scared them, so I'll be back quick. Darkfire wants to run."
Then speaking in the screams of the eagle he tells Ewan to fly high and watch. Then, Arminas whinneys to Darkfire, asking him to run as fast as he wishes.
He heads over to the area where the birds flew from.

"Anthos, I will go with you to see if we can't help settle out the argument among these men."
Malgant Tuesday May 29th, 2007 4:52:22 PM
Not seeing the argument as his to arbitrate, Malgant stays with Harvest, wanting to hear the farmhand's response to the questions about the school and the boy student. As Arminas mentions he wishes to go and have a look a the cause of the startled birds Malgant bids him be careful. He does not think there is anything out thee the ranger can't handle, but a freshly harvested field can still have some gullies and or tangles that could trip him and his horse up.
Florin Jadenth Tuesday May 29th, 2007 8:10:12 PM
Florin looks around at what all is going on and frowns. He however not being the most diplomatic at times stands next tro Bralin as he also waits for things to be settled or for his friends to see what is up.
Florin also wonders if something might be up here beyond what the group can see since it had been pointed out that something maybe. Considering this he will activate his ability to detect evil.
Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder Tuesday May 29th, 2007 10:06:42 PM
Lily wanders about with the main group. She feels a little out of place here, preferring crowds where no one is on their own land. She doesn't like to trespass, though 'pilfering' is different.
Her unease is compounded by the argument. She voices her thoughts,
"This is a peaceful community. Peaceful at least compared to what we encounter. I think we are overpowered here. What if a fight breaks out? Who are we to intervene? We're not local constabulary, or law makers of any kind. We've gotta be careful about what we do. We can't just do anything, or go anywhere. There's a lot more involved here. I don't feel comfortable."
The farmers are a-farming (ADM Robert) Wednesday May 30th, 2007 3:01:15 AM
The farmhand happily responds to Harvest's questions, though he doesn't stop his work as he talks. You can tell that he is a diligent and conscientious worker, though he wouldn't use those words himself. You sense that he is completely honest, and genuinely busy.
"I dunno much 'bout this magic school. I've not ever left Jarwolf, you see, so I dunno much 'bout other towns and dings like dat. It is a big deal for Itzal, de journey dat is, dey get him a carriage and all dat.
"Yeah, dey be farmers like everyone else. Dey got a lotta land, and dey get a lotta helpers. Good fertile land, dis is. See, look at that sod, so dark and still moist. Gonna get a good crop outta dis in only five or six moons, I reckon.
"I guess dey'll be back lader dis even. Dey didn't pack any bags, you see," he looks up from his work with a knowing wink at Harvest, "Gotta be back soon den, hey?"
The farmhand jerks his head up when he hears Arminas speak his plan to ride over to check out the birds.
"No! Wait! Please don't flatten de field with your horse. De birds just fly off all the time, dey do it to keep safe. Better to flee from possible harm den to wait to see how much it hurts. Dat's a good lesson in life, keeps us all safe."
***********
Any and Davros head over to the two arguing neighbours. This has the immediate effect of ending their argument and joining the two neighbours together in a common bond.
"What are you doing on your horse in my fields?" says the first man in an oversized green tunic and hose.
The other man, wearing a brown jacket and brown hat defends his neighbour, "Sure, you look mighty fancy with all your gear for killing on your fancy horse, but we're trying to grow our food from this ground that you're trampling."
"This is our land, see. Ours. You can't bring your swords against us here. We've go rights, you know. And people more powerful than all you lot will protect us."
"Now jigger off, and try not to crush my fields over much."
As you turn away the one in the hat says to the other (in a voice that is deliberately not quiet enough), "I reckon this lot might have been lifting things. The timings about right, and now they're so brazen as to be out in the open."
Bralin, Malgant and Lily remain with the group, trying to look as inconspicuous as a Halfling and Minotaur side-by-side can.
Florin looks about with his Detect Evil eye. He scans about and can detect that the farmhand is not evil, nor is there anything evil in the direction of the argument, or in the fields and trees about.
Cows moo, goats bleat, hens call out to each other. The sun rises higher and it is a beautiful still and warm autumnal morning.
OOC: Florin, could you email your Character Sheet to me, please?
Any Wednesday May 30th, 2007 10:07:00 AM
OOC--I thought we were riding on the road back towards the men--oops.
"We are sorry gentleman for riding on your crops. It's just that strange things seem to to be going on, and I couldn't help but overhear that some items have gone missing. I will gladly pay for the damage to your field, perhaps you could tell us what has happened while I get a coin or two out to pay for our neglect."
Any begins to draw two gold coins from his pouch while waiting to hear what the farmer's have to say.
Arminas (Lyle Sub) Wednesday May 30th, 2007 1:26:33 PM
Arminas hears the farm hand yell for him to stop, and is just able to hold Darkfire in before riding off into the field.
"You are right, I should not damage these young plants."
He dismounts and proceeds on foot moving lightly down the rows, and avoiding the plants easily. He stiil wants to take a closer look at these birds.
Bralin Wednesday May 30th, 2007 1:41:47 PM
Bralin stands there, waiting and watching. The dwarf is quite content to simply stand next to the gate until the family in question returns.
Harvest Wednesday May 30th, 2007 4:20:43 PM
"A carriage," Harvest exclaims. "That is very special. I have a friend who wished very much to study magics. He left our group a while ago. I wonder if he would be at this school?" she ponders.
"Thank you very much. It was pleasant to speak with you." Harvest bobs her head in a bow. "We are very near. Just north, in Jarlwolf. Perhaps we will return another day. I would like to speak to the family about this school and to congratulate Itzal Jerse on his good studies. I have found studies to be a difficult thing."
"Peace be with you. If you see the Jerse family, please tell them that we stopped by for a visit ... I'm sorry, I did not take your name."
Davros Wednesday May 30th, 2007 7:18:16 PM
Upon hearing the farmer's words, Davros turns around to confront him. "Sir do you imply that we have been stealing? Look at my clothes. Do I look like I have the need of petty theft? Please allow me to reassure you that we are no common thieves. We have had occasion to do some important work for the Pitchfork Council and I believe they hold us in high regard. If you are having problems with brigands, perhaps we could even be of assistance?"
As Davros walks away from the farmers, he whispers a message through the message spell. "I am very intrigued. We are, most of us, known heroes in these parts yet we are held with suspicion. I suggest we return at a later, darker hour to observe from hiding. There also seems to be a great deal of activity for a boring old farming day. How many days did we watch the elven farmers and not near this much activity over even a score of days."
Florin Jadenth Wednesday May 30th, 2007 11:39:52 PM
Florin is glad to notice no evil as he uses his ability so turns his attention back to what is being said. He doesn't say nothing either as he is more then happy to let Harvest and the others do the talking. He even plans to hang back just alittle ways as he doesn't want the fact that he is also armored and has weapons with him to alarm anyone anymore then they might already be.

Lily enjoys watching social interaction such as this between Harvest and the farmhand, trying to read between the lines. In this case, though, it sounds like it would have been more interesting to join Davros and Any.
More Birds (ADM Robert) Thursday May 31st, 2007 7:44:06 AM Harvest talks more to the farmhand, though he remains busy with his hoe.
"I dink it is in Rowena, but, as I sayed, I don't leave Jarlwolf. My name's Dim, been nice dalking with you."
Arminas glides between the shoots effortlessly, though to no avail. He spots nothing noteworthy as rat prints would be hard to spot from bird's feet in this ploughed field.
Bralin sets himself beside the front gate like an ancient standing stone (maybe Stone-Henge is a group of dwarves waiting for someone to arrive). Malgant, Lorth, Lily and Florin watch as Arminas moves through the plants, Harvest talks, and Davros and Any speak to those who were arguing. Malgant can make out the four voices, but only in so much as he can tell that the conversation is more civil now, calm.
**********
Any apologises for trespassing, and the farmer in the brown jacket replies, a little sheepishly after Davros' admonition, "It's just my hand-cart, that's all. I lent it to Graham last autumn," "and I'm sure I returned it, Bill. I told you that," Graham's words are soft and kindly, "I don't know why you're so upset over this. Perhaps, you should take the coins and buy a new one. Perhaps this is Alemi's hand touching you." "Leave your religion out of it. This is just some fancy and a horse feeling guilty about something. Weren't you the one croaking at the inn, that ditty about begging. Begging! What a pile of hot steaming that was coming from you dressed like that." "Bill, settle down. He is freely offering to pay for a new cart since he, well, really, he hasn't done much."
Bill looks a little flushed, and turns away looking down at the ground. Graham, knowing his friend well quietly says to Any, "You sure you can afford that? I mean, those will buy us a hand-cart each and there'll be plenty of coin remaining." He steps in and says even more quietly, "Family problems,"
Taking the gold coins Graham clearly thanks you, and bids you to move on. Another small flock of those brown birds takes flight from Graham's field. The two farmers glance at them momentarily and ultimately pay the birds no heed. "Bill, we'll get those rocks to mend your fence tomorrow, with our new carts. Come inside here for a cuppa."
Davros suggests returning at night to observe the goings on around the Jerse house. Bralin seems set to wait for them.
Any Thursday May 31st, 2007 10:57:39 AM
Satisfied that all is well now,but puzzling over the apparent disappearance of tha man's cart, Any returns to the group as Harvest says goodbye to the farm hand.
"There is something strange going on here, but I can't seem to put my finger on what it is. I would still like to meet this young lad, but if we are to do that, it seems we must return later. What do you all think?"
Arminas (Lyle Sub) d20+17=32 Thursday May 31st, 2007 11:02:08 AM
There is nothing to see, and nothing to discover when Arminas arrives out in the field. He looks around for tracks, or anything out of he ordinary (Spot/Track 32), then returns to where the others await.
Hearing Any's question, he says,
"I would not mind staying here untill the family returns. I t is not as pleasant as a forest, but there are a few trees, and the air is not filled with the smell of people."
Bralin Thursday May 31st, 2007 3:35:48 PM
Bralin nods with Arminas.
"The family should return 'ere dark."
Harvest Thursday May 31st, 2007 3:47:56 PM
"I would not mind returning later either," Harvest Moon enjoins. "But I am not so sure that there is anything amiss as you suspect, Anthos."
"Perhaps Arminas Calaelen could remain here to watch till nightfall if there is concern. But do you not think that it would be an invasion upon the family to intrude upon them after dark?"
Davros Thursday May 31st, 2007 4:51:53 PM
"We should return tomorrow then. Maybe one or two of us could scout at night to see if there is anything suspicious going on. It was very odd. Those farmers were very hostile, and next moment they were not upset at all, inviting each other for a drink."
Malgant Thursday May 31st, 2007 4:53:57 PM
It seems that there is no way to meet the student at this time, and the others do not sound as if they are sure what would be an intrusion on the family's privacy. Malgant shifts his great shoulders and reaches around his side, into his pouch. Pulling out a scroll tube, a quill and a small tightly stoppered bottle of ink he turns to Bralin." Might I borrow your shield Bralin, I should only need it a moment." Unrolling a sheet of parchment on the shield he looks to Anthos. " Did you really wish to perform for the lad's party? If you did I'll include that in this note. If we leave a message behind that we would be interested in meeting the student and his parents then they can contact us at the Inn and we need not worry about troubling them as they return from their trip. If you truly want to perform some of your works at the party, then so much the better for getting them to contact us. What do you think, and how should I word that? I can speak it and write it, but the language of humans is not my native tongue and well, sometimes things just don't quite sound right when I write them and read them back."
Florin Jadenth Thursday May 31st, 2007 11:00:33 PM
Florin likes the idea of leaving a note that Malgant brings up and waits for this to be pened before he plans to leave and come back with the others, or atleast wait and see what the others plan to do next.
Florin finds his mind on many things and reminds himself to stop by Ivy's later to see what he can do.
Thinking of various things he speaks to Harvest as she and the others know more of Jarlwolf then he does, "Hey Harvest, Is there anyone you can think of that might help me get a letter to the Floating City? I can easily tell them by map where the Float should be located if they need direction. This also once we have time for other things of that nature." Florin doesn't want to interupt the current things with this as what the group is currently doing is just as important or could be more so depending, only Domi knows.

The Letter (ADM Robert) Friday June 1st, 2007 1:55:17 AM
Any expresses concern that something is amiss. Harvest thinks otherwise.
Arminas has a very good look, and can just make out the swish of the rat's tail along the ground a several feet away from where the birds were. It appears that the birds took flight whilst the rat was still some distance away.
Arminas then offers to stay here at the Jerse house till the family returns, and Bralin agrees that it is a good idea.
Davros suggests returning on the morrow.
Malgant writes a note to leave for the family, saying that the party would like to meet Itzal, and the family, and that they can contact us at the inn.
Back to the Inn? Arminas staying behind? Planning to return tonight?
It is midmorning.
Arminas (Lyle Sub) Friday June 1st, 2007 10:28:46 AM
Arminas looks around at the others,
"I will return in the morning with all of you. I really do prefer the forest over these fields."
He will mount and ride back with the others untill they are ready to return.
Any Friday June 1st, 2007 12:01:28 PM
"Perhaps you are right my Harvest. We can ride back out in the morning if we still feel we need to."
He returns to the Inn with the others, still wondering about the things he has seen and what they could mean--if anything.
Bralin Friday June 1st, 2007 3:37:26 PM
Bralin shrugs. He truly doesn't care. When he realizes the majority of his companions favor returning in the morning, he bows his head in agreement.
The dwarf returns with the group to the inn.
Harvest Friday June 1st, 2007 5:29:01 PM
"What is it," Harvest Moon inquires of her companions on the walk back to Jarlwolf, "that makes you feel that there is something amiss? It is not that I doubt that there is a thing of possible danger or evil, but that speaking of a thing in moments of doubt may clarify one's resolve."
Davros Saturday June 2nd, 2007 4:27:04 PM
"The farmers, in particular. One moment they are arguing heatedly, the next their problem is resolved and they are best friends again. It is very curious, that is all."
Davros seems to be pondering a great deal as the group returns to town.
Any Saturday June 2nd, 2007 5:13:50 PM
" It just seems like everyone has something going on that doesn't fit the normal pattern of everyday life. A cart seemingly disappears. A boy shows up with magical powers that everyone says comes from a school nearby, that none of us have heard of. And I keep seeing these flocks of little brown birds that almost seem to be watching us since we first asked about the boy in town. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Maybe I am seeing evil in everything, even though it isn't there."
Going the Long Way About it... (ADM Robert) Sunday June 3rd, 2007 2:17:58 AM
With some vague sort of concensus the Swords of Light head back to the Inn in Jarlwolf. Some are feeling rather edgy (or just paranoid), others are just curious it seems.
Back at the Inn, the party no sooner arrives on the front doorstep when the innkeeper approaches them.
"Got a letter here for you lot, addressed to Anthos actually. That'd be you," he says as he wipes his hand on his dirty apron. He roughly thrusts envelope from his apron's pocket towards Any, "I remember your song from the competition, 'A-begging we will go, a-begging we will go. Hi-ho a-dairy-oh, a-begging we will go...'" The burly innkeeper continues to sing to himself as he returns to his duties.
The letter reads:
Anthos, Greatest Bard in the Cinnamon Valley, you are invited to perform at a celebration of Itzal Jerse's successes at the School of Magic in Rowena.
It goes to say that it is a formal occassion, the invite includes the rest of the party, and it says that the party is on two nights from today (Starting at sun-down). A RSVP is expected by tomorrow, with an address included (that you've just returned from).
Harvest Sunday June 3rd, 2007 8:03:13 PM
Harvest Moon sits quietly as Anthos reads the invitation.
"It appears that Farmer Dim has told the Jerze Family of our coming."
Within her thoughts, the brown girl wonders whether her good clothes will be good enough for a Formal Occasion.
Lily Monday June 4th, 2007 12:50:22 AM
"There's no need to make fun of him, Harvest. I think he meant that his name is Tim- he didn't pronounce T too well."
Lorth Monday June 4th, 2007 8:11:45 AM
(Back from Vacation, thanks Joe)
Lorth doesn't have formal clothes so this is a bit troublesome for him. Perhaps he will give his armor a good cleaning and wear that.
He waits quietly for his friends to discuss this new development.
Arminas (Lyle sub) Monday June 4th, 2007 12:23:49 PM
"A party! How fun! As long as it is outdoors."
He wonders which of his buckskin shirts will look the best under his mithril shirt.
Any Monday June 4th, 2007 12:25:55 PM
"Of course we should accept."
He quickly pens an affirmative response, and sends it along with a young lad, paying a silver piece for his trouble.
"This should be very interesting."
He gets out his new shirt, and makes sure all is clean and ready to go.
Bralin Monday June 4th, 2007 3:12:14 PM
Bralin frowns. He has a bad feeling that a bath is in his near future.
Be that as it may, the dwarf has another question. "The party is still two days away. We had planned to return on the morrow. Should we not RSVP in person and fulfill both expectations?"
Malgant Monday June 4th, 2007 4:45:12 PM
A mild look of concern crosses the Minotaur's placid face. Formal clothes....now what does that mean, he wonders. I should ask, so that I can arrive properly attired. His thoughts ramble on down that road and he catches a similar look from Bralin. Wondering if the Dwarf is also concerned about his attire, Malgant asks what exactly formal attire is in this area. " Pardon me, but just what would be considered formal attire? I am out on the road and do not have a vast wardrobe in my backpack. I am also fairly certain that the fine tailors of this city might not have anything on hand in my size. Can one of you help me get the things Ill need to be presentable for this party? I don';t want to draw too much attention to us and embarrass you all."
Florin Jadenth Monday June 4th, 2007 5:43:23 PM
Florin looks to the others and thinks before speaking his thoughts on the clothing anyway, "As with when I asked Ivy to marry me and as I plan to wear when I marry her, I myself will just wear my armor all nice and cleaned up since I'm a paladin of Domi I do not think it is too much of a problem."
Florin looks to Malgant and smiles as he thinks the taur shouldn't worry so much.
When the group does split up for awhile Florin will seek about town for a way to get a letter to the Floating City, he will even check in to the temple of Domi if needed to see if they might beable to help out. After this he will once again check in on Ivy and ask her parents if there is anything he can do to help with the planning, money, etc.
Davros Monday June 4th, 2007 6:37:16 PM
Davros hears the group talk and a thought occurs to him. "Doesn't anyone think it is odd that we went out to the farm to meet the boy, he wasn't home, but then there is an invitation for us to go meet him upon our return to Jarlwolf?" Davros ponders for a moment. "Has anyone heard of a mage school in Rowena?"
"Malgant, I'm sure one of the vendors at the marketplace here could provide you with the clothes you require within two days. Maybe anyone else who needs to should go shopping as well."
Harvest (2nd Post) d20+6=24 Monday June 4th, 2007 7:48:58 PM
Harvest Moon purses her lips and sets her face into lines of thought.
"We were in Rowena for a few days, Davros Sapphiredge. With Remo Treadlefoot."
"Magic school ... did we see a magic school?" (Knowledge Geography 24)
Davros Monday June 4th, 2007 8:48:09 PM
"Remo? His name seems to come up a lot lately"
Lily Tuesday June 5th, 2007 5:10:36 AM
"Malgant, perhaps you could wear my hat to the party. I know it wouldn't suit you like this, but how about this," Lily winks and the hat changes to a hair comb, then a pink hair ribbon, "Is this better? I think it would suit you."
ADM Robert Tuesday June 5th, 2007 6:08:51 AM
OOC: Sorry, gonna post in around 14 hours from now. Had a bad day, going to bed.
Malgant Tuesday June 5th, 2007 5:57:39 PM
" I am afraid to wear my armor to a social function like this Florin. I mean, when we walked into town did you see how some of the townfolk reacted? I realize that I can appear scary in this armor, when I fight thats what I want, but at a social function..." Hearing Lily Malgant's attention is diverted from his worry for a moment, as he watched her change the hat into several different forms. " My goodness Lily. I don't know what to say! You would let me borrow your hat? I see how much you prize it as you flit about here changing looks every couple of minutes as the mood suits you.....it would be an honor." Malgant would be blushing if he wasn't covered in fur. As it is you can see him swell with pride at having lily show so much trust in him to let him borrow what it seems to him must be one of her most loved possessions.
Oh, what to wear! (ADM Robert) Tuesday June 5th, 2007 7:13:27 PM
Such a quaint idea for hardy adventurers to been seen worrying about what to wear. Armour seems to be the taste for most for this formal party, though Malgant fears it may give the wrong impression should he wear it. Lily offers her most prized possession, her Hat of Disguise. Malgant is most grateful.
Any pens an acceptance and plans to 'post' it. Bralin suggests delivering it in person tomorrow morning since you plan to go there then anyway.
The rest of the day is spent as various people go about preparing for the party, and generally relaxing around the town. Florin is perhaps the most productive. Through the Temple he hears of a traveller heading towards the Floating City, described as being tall with red hair and a rough red beard, dressed like an artisan, a carpenter perhaps.
Ivy's parents are glad Florin dropped in, but not as glad as Ivy. However, Ivy's parents keep him busy with small talk, and wedding plans that go round in circles without getting anywhere. "It's early days yet, with the planning," and, "It's just speculating," and "Just thrashing out ideas," being three phrases repeated frequently by the future-in-laws.
OOC: I never know how to end these posts, and keep things moving along at a reasonable pace. Let's say we meet up for dinner at the Inn and relate what we did for the day, discuss the events and perhaps plan for tomorrow. It might take two or more posts to resolve all that.
Any Tuesday June 5th, 2007 8:33:04 PM
Arriving at the Inn that evening, Any discusses the coming events with the others.
"I am still very curious about this young lad who has made good at magic school. I agree with Bralin--let's just deliver this note in the morning, and try again to meet our erstwhile hosts."
Arminas (Lyle sub) Tuesday June 5th, 2007 8:35:42 PM
Arminas goes to the Inn to have a meal with the others.
"I would be happy to ride back out to the farm tomorrow. Darkfire hardly even got to stretch his legs yesterday. I will meet you in the morning."
With that, he leaves and goes walking in the trees surrounding the village, before choosing one to rest in for the evning with Ewan.
Bralin Tuesday June 5th, 2007 9:41:01 PM
"I will remain armored," Bralin informs the group.
Florin Jadenth Tuesday June 5th, 2007 10:56:39 PM
Florin's head almost literally spins with all the comments on the wedding being thrown at him and he blinks as he listens and waves his hands before speaking, "Whoa, please lets keep this atleast kind of simple. I like to comment that my adopted daughter will be coming from the Floating City along with "maybe" my parents. I'm going to seek a place here to hopefully rent also for Jella, Ivy and myself to live in also if you do not mind. However I do not want to get ahead of myself with that till Jella arrives and such. I also like to drop in some gold for the wedding plans. Would a hundred gold be enough for now?"
Once the talking with Ivy's parents is done he spends alittle time or tries to with Ivy before heading back to the group. He is relatively quiet during the meal as he has alot on his mind but he still listens to the going ons of the group and agrees to go with them if they go visit the farm again.
Lorth Wednesday June 6th, 2007 7:38:19 AM
Lorth spends his day at the inn. He polishes his armor, then polishes it again. Satisfied he puts it on and goes outside to see if the sun reflecting off his armor if bright enough for him to call it a mirror finish. If it does not shine brightly enough he polishes it again.
Harvest Wednesday June 6th, 2007 11:12:21 AM
Prompted by the notion of magic and a school for magic nearby, Harvest Moon spends a good deal of time up in the room once again going over her scrolls. It is different in the well lit room, at a desk by the window. Much different from the earlier days in which she would study upon her bedroll in the small cubbyhole under the stairs in the Shadfly Inn by the light of an Everburning torch. But study, Harvest Moon finds, is still study. Even now, it seems as arduous as ever. And even now, she finds her head rising to glance at the door, hoping to escape to the outside.
Eventually she does, wandering down to the common room and requesting the loan of a large basket. That evening, as the Swords of Light gather for the evening meal, she comes bearing a basket filled with wild flowers.

Arminas (Lyle sub) Wednesday June 6th, 2007 1:59:43 PM
OOC--I need to post for Wednesday before the DM post. I may not be able to do it later.:o)
Arminas returns in the morning and accompanies the rest to see what they can find on the farm.
On the way, he allows Darkfire a good solid run, even passing the farm, before turning back to join the others.
Any Wednesday June 6th, 2007 2:01:51 PM
Any rises, and saddles the horses for the short ride to the farm. Hopefully they will accomplish more than just deliveering an answer to their invitation.
When they reach the farm, he hails the house before dismounting and approaching.
Malgant Wednesday June 6th, 2007 4:26:39 PM
While they discuss plans for the party and going back to deliver their response to the student and his family on the morrow a thought occurs to Malgant, and he shares it with the group. " Anthos, why don't you make a list of things you would like to know about the boy and his studies so that you can make a song to honor him at the party. It would sure go a long way toward answering all these questions everyone keeps tossing about on the location of the school and the boy's course of study and all."
Davros Wednesday June 6th, 2007 8:03:16 PM
Davros spends the time relaxing, studying and practicing some of the new spells in his spellbook. (outside of course)
Florin Jadenth Wednesday June 6th, 2007 10:19:50 PM
Florin spends his time just prepareing himself for everything and his routine training.
When the group decides to go visit the farm again, he will summon Ajax and ride along, letting his friend stretch his legs since it has been some time since he summoned Ajax.
Florin rides beside Malgant if he goes along with the group and speaks to him, "You decided on what to do for that party?" Florin smiles and listens to Malgant, having grown to like the tuar and thinks when the time comes he will be quite the help in combat and healing too.

" Why Lily said she would lend me her wonderous hat! I thought that was very kind of her to do. That way I can wear whatever is formal wear hereabouts and not need to wear my armor out in the open and scare people. I think it might be prudent to wear it underneath the illusion from the hat though...I tend to feel so naked without it>"
Arminas (Lyle sub) Thursday June 7th, 2007 5:45:30 PM
OOC-- Do we have a DM right now? Posting again without DM response.
Arminas rides Darkfire out to the farm. He calls to Ewan asking her to look around the countryside, and report anything out of the ordinary. Other than that, he stays to the back of the group watching to see what happens.
Any Thursday June 7th, 2007 5:47:08 PM
Arriving at the farm, Any dismounts to present his acceptance of the invitation. He approaches the farmhouse door, and knocks--hoping that someone is home to answer.

[OOC: Sorry it took me a while to pick things up again. I wasn't expecting Robert's departure.]
Harvest gives some thought to Rowena, and doesn't remember a magic school in town. She spends some time gathering flowers, and brings them to dinner at the inn.
Florin is at last able to extricate himself from his future in-laws and join the group for dinner.
Lorth polishes his armor, planning to wear it to the party.
Over dinner, you discuss options and plans. Many of you are curious about this boy and his magical studies. Maglant suggests that Any jot some notes for a song about the lad.
The next morning is crisp but fair. You saddle the horses, who seem pleased by the prospect of an outing. You ride out toward the Jerze family house, passing fields where harvesting continues in full swing. A few of the farmers stop in their labors to wave at you as you pass. Apparantly, you are becoming known in the area. Either that or they are eager for a reason to take a short break.
You arrive at the Jerze home. It is a three-story wooden structure, painted white, rather larger than most other farmhouses in the area. The front garden is fragrant with herbs, planted neatly on either side of a gravel path. Beside and behind the house are the fields and pens you would expect from a farmhouse in this area. There is nobody about, but smoke rises from the chimney.
Lorth Monday June 11th, 2007 7:48:57 AM
Lorth summons Tobiasz to ride when they set out in the morning. As they approach the house Lorth keeps his eyes open for anything out of the ordinary.
Harvest d20+9=29 Monday June 11th, 2007 8:54:40 AM
It is very high up to come down from Fyrda's tall saddle. Harvest Moon jumps down and then inspects her armload of flowers to ensure that they made the short leap undamaged. A frown of consternation bows the ends of her mouth as she looks back up at the height from which she had come and contemplates the same maneuver dressed formally in her dark brown skirt. That may be a problem. (Jump Nat 20)
Lest Fyrda feel that the frown is for her, Harvest reaches up to pat the soft warm shoulder of the loyal old plow horse. Then, armed with her bundle of wild flowers, Harvest approaches the door and knocks.
Arminas (Lyle Sub) Monday June 11th, 2007 12:50:44 PM
Arminas stays atop the horse Darkfire,
"I will await your return outside. I never was much of one for indoors. Plus, the house looks small, and we stiil look like an invasion party rather than something else. I may just ride down the road a little ways, giving Darkfire more time to run, and maybe scare up a rabbit or two for Ewan to hunt."
With that, he rides off.
Any Monday June 11th, 2007 12:53:13 PM
Any waits on the doorstep with Harvest, hoping at last to meet someone from this family, maybe even the boy. The acceptance of the invitation is in his hands, and his lute is on his back. He has left his sword, dagger and belt on his saddle, along with his bow, hoping to appear less intimidating.
Davros Monday June 11th, 2007 3:01:35 PM
Davros wears his nice clothing for the occasion, hoping to look formal. Arriving at the house, he casts a quick cantrip to clean himself up. He goes to the door with the others but says nothing.
Bralin d20+6=11 d20+7=15 Monday June 11th, 2007 3:56:20 PM
Bralin rides Mica to the Jerze home. Both the dwarf and his steed are armored, naturally. He simply cannot fathom making a day trip without all his gear.
Knowing he might be overly armed for this first visit, Bralin dismounts at home and takes the reins of the various steeds. He will hold them and wait outside the fence, while the more diplomatic members of the group introduce themselves.
Out of habit, the warrior scans the area for anything of interest. [Listen 11, Spot 15]
Malgant d20+4=15 Monday June 11th, 2007 4:29:30 PM
Also not comfortable leaving his gear at the Inn, Malgant is wearing his armor and sword as well. Taking Bralin's cue he stays back with the horses, though he concentrates and tried to hear what is being said at the farmhouse door.
Florin Jadenth d20+3=17 d20+3=21 Monday June 11th, 2007 11:05:05 PM
Florin summons Ajax and uses the time to let Ajax stretch his legs. Seeing as how Florin is wearing his armor and weapons much like some of the others of the group, he hangs back and allows Harvest and the others to do the talking.
Florin does keep a eye out for the moment to see what happens.
(Spot:17 Listen:21)
DM Kathy Tuesday June 12th, 2007 10:22:57 AM
As the group approaches the house, Arminas, Bralin, and Maglant opt to stay back with the horses. The others approach the door, Harvest carrying her flowers and everyone taking a moment to make themselves more presentable.
You knock, and the door is open by a pleasant-faced young woman in a plain dress and apron. She smiles at you, then shouts, "Visitors to see you, mistress!"
You hear footsteps approaching the door, then see the lady of the house come into view. She is tall and fair-haired, and still quite handsome though she must be past forty. Her movements are graceful, and her very correct posture makes her appear even taller.
When she reaches the door, she speaks to the maid in a quiet murmur. (DC 15 Listen check, Highlight to display spoiler: {"Lucirinda, I grow tired of telling you. Ask the visitors their business, then have them wait while they are announced. Do not make me regret hiring you."})
Everyone can hear the maid's reply. "Yes ma'am. Sorry ma'am." She scurries off.
"Good morning," the lady says to you. "What brings you here today?"
Lorth Tuesday June 12th, 2007 10:30:16 AM
Lorth waits a few steps down the walkway. He says nothing, waiting for friends to state their business. He looks around the yard nonchalantly, then glances back at the horses.
Any Tuesday June 12th, 2007 10:37:39 AM
"We received your gracious invitation to the upcoming festivities, and wanted to not only respond in person, but to meet our hosts before hand. It is always such a pleasure to help others celebrate a significant event, especially one of such importance and honor. I'm sure you are very pleased with your son, and his accomplishments."
After he finishes this little speech, Any pauses to allow the mistress of the house to respond, encouraging her through his attitude to boast away, while he listens to the information she is willing to share.
Arminas (Lyle sub) d20+17=29 Tuesday June 12th, 2007 10:43:13 AM
Arminas rides down the road from the farmhouse, careful not to raise a dust cloud near the house itself. After a short ride, he returns to see how things are progressing with the acceptance of the invitation.
He keeps an eye out for anything out of the ordinary, and asks Ewan if she has seen anything as well.
Spot 29
Bralin d20+7=13 Tuesday June 12th, 2007 11:52:52 AM
Bralin idly scratches his chin, waiting for those at the door to complete their business.
Out of the blue, he asks Malgant, "need ye be devoted purely to Domi to become a Protector?"
Harvest d20+14=15 Tuesday June 12th, 2007 1:57:10 PM
"Many congratulations to your son. I am Harvest Moon. This is Davros Sapphiredge and Paladin Florin Jandeth. Anthos, I believe you already know. We are the Swords of Light. Behind are Bralin Stoneminder, Arminas Calaelen, Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder, and Malgant, the adherent of Domi."
"Many of us have an interest in magics both divine and arcane, and so when we heard your son's success praised in Jarlwolf, we thought that in addition to delivering congratulations, it might be of benefit to both we and your son to share our knowledge."
"I am particularly interested in hearing of the school at which Itzal studies. I have never studied at a school, and I often wonder at the life such a place might bring."
(Listen 15. Well, made the listen check. But it's a Nat 1 which should be a failure.)
Davros Tuesday June 12th, 2007 4:21:03 PM
"I would also like to offer congratulations to the success of a fellow student of the magical arts. As I am well aware, it is not everyday that a commoner becomes able to learn magecraft and I would like to offer advice to the boy, so he might avoid some of the pitfalls which I endured in my younger days."
Malgant Tuesday June 12th, 2007 4:45:17 PM
Listening intently to wha is said at the door, Malgant xatches the mistriss' admonishment of the maid and inwardly winces. Had the girl not been so quick to accept the reprimand Malgant might have lent her some aid in the for of explaining they had not offered their reason for being here to the maid, but the moment disappears before he has the chance to speak. As introductions are passed around Malgant in taken aback at Bralin's question. Turning to the Dwarf he replies "One must be devoted to Domi to follow the path of the protector and to be blessed with the benefits that Domi provides to his shields in society. One need not be an ordained priest of the religion though, no. "
Florin Jadenth Tuesday June 12th, 2007 11:00:41 PM
Florin hangs back with Bralin and Malgant as the introdutions by some of the group is made. He doesn't speak at the moment as he just lets his friends do the talking other wise.
Thinking Florin looks to Malgant, "I may myself some day take a level or so in that. For now though I just serve his word and protect his word, enforcing it, which ever you wish to consider it as. For now I've devoted my training the the killing and hunting of undead though." Florin shrugs, trying to keep his coversation between his two friends so he might not alarm the lady of the house.
DM Kathy Wednesday June 13th, 2007 10:43:19 AM Arminas does not see anything unusual. Ewan doesn't either, but seems to enjoy being aloft on such a fine morning.
The tall lady inclines her head graciously in response to Harvest's introductions. "Thank you for agreeing to come," she says. A delicate cough. "Hm. It is a formal occasion. Do any of you require....assistance with the proper attire? Adventurers are such an odd group, you see."
To Any, she replies with a smile, "Oh, yes, we are quite pleased with Itzal's accomplishments. Mind you, we always knew the boy was something out of the common way. So good to see those instructors of his finally acknowledging it."
She draws herself up even more when Davros speaks. "Well, that may be true; I don't know," she replies frostily. "But we are not commoners, young man, and I'll thank you to remember it."
Lorth d20+7=25 Wednesday June 13th, 2007 12:57:25 PM
Lorth bows deeply to the lady of the house and begins his introduction, "A pleasure to meet you Dame Jerse. I beg of you to allow me to present myself, I am Lorth Paladin of Gargul, Veteran of the Battle of Strongwind castle, son of Kilath Jeredosta Veteran of the Dread wars. I am sure your son is a fine man deserving in all the things he has accomplished." , he pauses, "If I may continue, I am sorry if my dress does not meet formal standards, but alas traveling as we do most times, it is difficult to bring all the comforts that one is accustomed to at home. I would be most grateful and humbled if you could help me become more attired to your exceptional tastes."
Lorth glances about for a moment. "Would you have a stablehand that I could leave my horse in the care of?" (Diplomacy: 25)
Bralin Wednesday June 13th, 2007 2:09:34 PM
Bralin sees Harvest, Any, Davros, and Lorth speaking with the lady of the house. After satisfying himself that she's not about to launch a surprise attack, the dwarf ignores her.
He turns his mind back to the responses of Malgant and Florin. "I am at a crossroads," he confesses. "I feel I must choose the way of the axe or the call of The Chamber - warrior or priest. I can no longer be effective pursuing both courses."
Bralin pauses, searching the ground for answers. "I do not know which to choose," he admits.
Davros Wednesday June 13th, 2007 4:15:15 PM
"I apologize Lady. I did not mean to imply such. I am Davros Sapphiredge. We are glad to be able to attend this celebration and honored to have been invited. Some of our companions may indeed use some assitance with their attire. I hope my own are acceptable."
Malgant Wednesday June 13th, 2007 5:15:01 PM
" The followers of Domi are all encouraged to follow what they are best at. A follower need not be a priest to become a Protector, indeed the martial training required means that it takes a priest longer to become ready for the task, which it seems is your point." The minotaur thinks for a moment about all that he has seen of Bralin and all that he has heard from the others. The dwarf has the instincts of a warrior ingrained upon him and truth be told, if Malgant did not know that he had taken on studies as a priest he would not guess it from observing or sparring with Bralin. " I am strong in the martial aspects of the training I have undertaken. The spiritual side was forgien to me, but it was part of the lure that drew me. I could be a town guard in my homeland and not have chosen the faith, yet the faith was what drew me and loyal to it is my heart. I would look inside yourself and see where your heart truely lies. From where I stand it would seem the call of the warrior, but only your heart knows for sure."
Harvest Wednesday June 13th, 2007 6:22:41 PM
A look of surprise turns to one more of interest.
"I am sorry, I had thought that the party was tomorrow Dame Jerse," Harvest Moon replies. "But ... " The brown girl's nose lifts with curiosity, almost as though scenting the air. " ... I think it would be very nice to see the attire that you may have to loan us. I think that would be very nice."
Florin Jadenth Wednesday June 13th, 2007 11:32:10 PM
Florin looks to Bralin when he speaks more on his choice to come and smiles abit before speaking to him and Malgant, "I say the path will open itself to you if you keep your eye open for it. I decided to walk the path of a undead hunter after our time in that cursed land." Florin doesn't speak the place's name at the moment, "I felt less then helpful there and I wish to end the unnatural life of creature seeking to harm those innocent and unable to help themselves from such dangers."
Florin hears the comment made by the lady of the house and decides it is time to introduce himself, "Hello Dame Jerse. My name is Florin Jadenth of the noble Jadenth family in the Floating City. It is a honor to meet you. I was hoping as a paladin of Domi that it would be alright wear my armor. We paladin's normally go to all special events in are armor to mark that we are there as representives of the god we serve as well as outself. However I would not mind viewing the outfits you have, being a noble and all I do enjoy certain liberties."
Arminas (Lyle sub) Thursday June 14th, 2007 11:14:10 AM
Arminas does not respond to the lady's offer of better clothing.
I'm sure she is not talking to me. My mithril shirt and tunic are much more valuable than anything else that most people will be wearing. What better attire could there be?
He does dismount from Darkfire, as it looks like the group may be going inside. If so, he will ask Darkfire to wait here, and he will move to the porch area to better watch and keep track of what is going on in the house.
Any Thursday June 14th, 2007 11:18:50 AM
"Thank you for your kind offer Mi'lady. For myself, there is no need, but if the others wish to take advantage of your largesse and hospitality, I would be happy to assist in any way.
I too believed that the party was tomorrow, but if we were in error, then forgive us our lapse in courtesy and in not being better prepared.
Any waits to see who takes advantage of the offer, and helps where he can.
"Is your son around? We would like to greet our guest of honor prior to the other guests arriving."
DM Kathy Thursday June 14th, 2007 12:14:24 PM
Mistress Jerse is obviously quite pleased with Lorth's charming speech.
"Yes, of course. Where are my manners? Do come in." She peers over your shoulders at where Florin[b], [b]Maglant, and Bralin are gathered. "All of you," she adds. "I'll send the lad for your horses. Have you breakfasted?"
She leads you into the house, responding to your questions as she goes.
"The party is tomorrow, my dear," she replies to Harvest. "But one never knows with adventurers, and if the lot of you were to turn up tomorrow unsuitably attired, it would be too late to address the matter."
"Itzal is still abed," she tells Any. "Poor lad, I fear he has quite worn himself out this term. We are so proud of him."
She ushers you into a parlor and invites you to sit. She rings a little bell to summon the maid. "We have some spare clothing I would be happy to lend," she says. "I'll have it fetched."
Arminas Thursday June 14th, 2007 4:42:41 PM
Arminas accepts the invitation to go into the home, and bows slightly to the woman of the house.
"Greetings, I am Arminas Calaelen, from the elven village of Merrydale. I do not have need of your clothes, which probably won't fit me properly anyway. Do not worry, I will wear attire suitable for a grand function. I am sure you have heard of the finery of the elves. Though I fear I will need to tone down my clothing to fit with a party of mixed peoples. It will not do to have an invited guest upstaging those who are hosting such a fine event."
Arminas then bows again to the woman.
Bralin Thursday June 14th, 2007 8:48:49 PM
At the woman's invitation, Bralin clomps to the house. He nods politely and steps through.
Malgant Thursday June 14th, 2007 10:28:09 PM
Malgant accepts the invitation and steps into the house. He tries to become hyper aware of where he is standing and what is around him that is breakable, and the strain shows on his face. It is often like this in dwellings for those who are smaller than he is. He tries his best not to knock anything over and to be polite by returning the lady's greeting. " Good day. I am Malgant, a priest of Domi and I thank you for your hospitality."
Florin Jadenth Thursday June 14th, 2007 11:00:44 PM
Florin follows the others in and looks around the place casually as he does. Taking in the surroundings but doing his best not to seem to curious as he wouldn't want the lady to think he might be attempting to look over the place for other reasons.
He does give idle talk as he moves along, just trying to be nice and ask mainly about where she gets her noble clothing, that it looks like she must send for some of it from other regions of the Wold and such. Not only just chit chatting but also trying to smooth things over more by showing a interest in the fact that she has such finery around her.
Any Friday June 15th, 2007 1:09:44 AM
"We are twice honored by your invitation. Both for your welcome today, and by your request for tomorrow. I too believe that I have clothing suitable for the occasion tomorrow, but are their songs that you would like to hear, or a specific ballad you would like me to play for your son?"
Any shows nothing but a sincere face during the visit, and when all are ready to go, will thank the lady for her hospitality, looking forward to the party the next day.
Later, to Harvest, he says,
"I am very curious to meet this boy, now more than ever. Tomorrow should prove to be interesting."
Lorth d20+2=15 Friday June 15th, 2007 8:22:16 AM
"You do us great service Dame Jerse, with you hospitality. However do not let us impose on you, I understand that bringing everything together for such a great social affair is a strain in itself and we wouldn't want you to be exhausted tommorow. If we get in the way please let us know and we will leave."
When presented with the clothes, Lorth picks whatever he thinks Mistress Jerse likes the most. He tries to pick up on if her eyes linger on something or she speaks about where she got it. (Sense Motive: 15)
Harvest Friday June 15th, 2007 10:16:55 AM
Harvest Moon nods to Anthos in agreement. Yet, sitting in the parlor, it might appear to any who would be watching, that at this moment her thoughts are less upon the party upcoming tomorrow, than the formal clothing to be brought in now. Though her general demeanor is placid, her brown eyes glitter with anticipation.
DM Kathy Friday June 15th, 2007 10:34:08 AM
The servant girl answers the bell, and Mistress Jerze gives instructions in a low voice. The girl departs, and the lady of the house turns her attention back to her guests.
"Well," she says, seeming at a loss for how to answer Arminas. "Well. Indeed. I should much like to see elven finery, and I thank you for your care of us."
"Sons," she replies to Any. "Oh dear. I'm afraid I have no head for music at all. Something lively, I think, but genteel. None of your beggar-songs. Oh, and Itzal likes tales of battles. The gorier the better." A little laugh. "You know what boys are."
A few minutes later the maid returns, red-faced with exertion and hurry, pushing a tea-cart. "Thank you, Lucarinda," the lady of the house says, not seeming to notice the maid's distress. Turning to you, "Can I offer you some refreshment?"
She pours out tea and gives out muffins and scones to those who want them. A few minutes later, the maid returns, even redder in the face, and accompanied by a male servant who looks as if he's been called in from outdoors. Both have their arms full of clothing.
"There are no fashionable shops hereabouts, of course," Mistress Jerze tells Florin. "We go to Rowena every now and again--more often now because Itzal is in school there. We can get quality fabrics locally, too, and I must say that Lucarinda's dressmaking skills have become quite acceptable."
Examining the clothing, you find it of reasonably good quality and quite well-made. The colors tend to be bright, and there is a lot of ornamentation.
Any d20+12=29 d20+12=19 Friday June 15th, 2007 1:54:38 PM
Any sits quietly by as the others go through the clothing. He is thinking about songs that would be appropriate for the occasion.
He eats a small scone, and stretches one cup of tea for the entire visit. Mostly he is watching everything that goes on, and noticing the interaction between the others.
Spot 29 Listen 19
Harvest Friday June 15th, 2007 3:30:53 PM
"Please, let me help you." Harvest Moon takes the bundle of clothing from the maid, helping her lower her burden to a nearby table. "I am Harvest Moon. Thank you very much. I appreciate the effort you have put in to bring the clothing out to us to see."
The smell of the scones and muffins bring a smile to her lips. But she takes scrupulous care to defer her snack until after having looked through the pile of formal clothing. To a large extent, they appear overly gaudy. And yet, having asked to see them, it would be rude to leave without choosing at least one piece.
"They are very bright, Dame Jerse," Harvest compliments the clothing as she holds up a decorative scarf, diaphanous, shot through with silver threads and fringed at each end with the tiniest of bangles. She drapes the scarf about her neck, with a deft flip of her hand putting the longer end of the scarf over her shoulder to hang down her back.
"Does this look well upon me, Anthos?" With a hand, she pushes the crest of hair from out of her face. "I am not sure it will go well, though, with my yellow blouse."
Arminas Friday June 15th, 2007 7:10:55 PM
Arminas smiles weakly as the group looks at the fine clothes. A sudden realization comes upon him.
I gave my velvet purble robe to Lirena, I have only my traveling clothes left.
Gazing back at the clothes he almost moves over to them, but the look in his eyes betrays the pride that keeps him from accepting charity from this woman.
"Yes, I have heard that fine clothes are difficult to get this far from the cities."
Arminas says in a quiet vacant way.
Bralin Friday June 15th, 2007 9:14:39 PM
Bralin looks about curiously. The woman offers refreshments, and so the dwarf obligingly paws a couple of rolls and crams them into his mouth.
He looks at the armfuls of clothes, but makes no move to take anything. Maybe he didn't take the hint, maybe he did and doesn't care - its kinda hard to tell with the stone faced dwarf.
Florin Jadenth Friday June 15th, 2007 11:44:34 PM
Florin enjoys the talks and takes a drink and a roll also as he listens and just occupies himself for now. He does dismiss the clothes for him anyway other then just to look and admire them.
Davros Saturday June 16th, 2007 10:37:34 PM
Davros takes a look at the clothes, but seeing none to be much better than his own courtier's outfit, he politely declines.
The refreshments however are another matter and he joins Bralin in sampling the pastries.

Posting report: Sunday June 10th- Saturday June 16th
I am assuming Robert played Lily. Lily will not be part of next weeks Posting Report.
Malgant Sunday June 17th, 2007 11:33:41 PM
As they step into the parlor Malgant is still very careful of how and where he goes, so as to not upset anything, especially with his tail. When the clothes arrive he pays a good deal of attention to the outfits, so that when Lily allows him to borrow her hat he can make the appearance of these clothes, or something similar from his homeland.

"Thank you, miss," the maid says to Harvest. "I'm Lucy. Er...Lucarinda."
"Very becoming, miss," she adds when Harvest tries on the scarf.
For her part, Mistress Jerze seems ready to end the visit. "Thank you so much for coming by," she says. "We're delighted you'll be attending. But, if you don't mind, I have much to do between now and the party. Have you all of the clothing you will need?"
Lorth Monday June 18th, 2007 7:46:38 AM
Lorth picks something from the pile of clothes. The less outlandish the better.
"Thank you for your hospitality, Dame Jarse. I will take my leave so that you may get on with your arrangements. What is your stableman's name, so that I may retrieve my horse?"
Arminas Monday June 18th, 2007 8:43:37 AM
Arminas takes leave of the house, with a slight bow and a quick movement to the door.
"I will see you tomorrow then."
He slips out, rethinking the need to attend the party for someone he doesn't even know. Looking up, Ewan circles high above. Arminas quickly retrieves Darkfire and flips a silver coin to the stable hand. Darkfire restlessly awaits the others with Arminas sitting upon him.
OOC: I'm off to the North Slope of Alaska for 3 days. They say there is wireless internet at the field station, but I also heard they may be working on it. So, it seems like it may be spotty. I will post if I can, otherwise if it won't kill the plot then have Arminas disappear into the woods for a few days while others attend the party. If I can't post, and posting is needed then Lyle has permission to try and kill Arminas like he did in the tap game.
Any Monday June 18th, 2007 9:01:41 AM
Any bows to the Lady, and thanks her for her hospitality.
"We shall see you tomorrow then."
He rides back to town with the others, but is rather silent. His thoughts are on what songs to sing, but more particularly, the young lad and his new found powers.
Harvest Monday June 18th, 2007 10:05:12 AM
"Thank you for having us into your home, Madam Jerse," Harvest replies in return. "And thank you as well for the loan of the formal clothing. I am very much looking forward to the party tomorrow and to meeting Young Itzal."
The brown girl is quiet during the ride back to Jarlwolf. She sits in the saddle swaying to Fyrda's gentle gait. Upon her face is a thoughtful look.
"Formal parties must be very bright," she says at last, turning in the saddle to look about for confirmation from those of her companions that know better of such things. "Formal clothing appears very much that way."
Bralin Monday June 18th, 2007 11:01:01 AM
And now, they are dismissed.
Bralin keeps an eye on Harvest and Any, and follows their cue. When they leave, he leaves.
On the way back to the tavern, he asks, "Pardon, but did anything of significance just take place? If so, I require explanation, for I missed it."
Malgant Monday June 18th, 2007 4:26:41 PM
" It depends on your point of view Harvest. As a priest, I have been invited to some formal parties. Most are terribly stuffy affairs where everyone tries to outdo the person before them. What ends up happening is the tension in the air is thick enough to pull like taffy. Oddly enough though your purpose is supposedly to congratulate someone or comemorate a happy occasion. Odd no?"
Davros Monday June 18th, 2007 5:34:43 PM
On the return trip, Davros shares some advice from his own school days.
"Formal affairs can indeed be very brightly colored as Harvest suggests. Frequently it is because colored clothing is more expensive than that which commoners can afford. If brown was the most expensive color to wear, you may rest assured that all nobles would be wearing it."
"The apprentices ate every meal as a formal occasion, as practice for when we might one day dine with real nobles. One good tip for those who have not had many opportunities to attend formal functions is to eat slowly and observe what others are doing. Try to sit next to someone who knows which piece of silverware to use when, so that you can copy them. If we all sit together, we will have a hard time copying anyone other than each other. Depending on the family, most minor grievances such as using the wrong fork will be overlooked. A noble family frequently has to entertain lower than their own station and may be used to it."
"And Malgant, try not to poke anything hanging from the ceiling", Davros says with a smile.
DM Kathy Tuesday June 19th, 2007 12:06:46 AM
Poking through the finery, Lorth turns up a burgundy tunic with a subtle embroidery in gold-colored thread. He reckons he can wear it with his own black trousers and be quite presentable.
Arminas re-considers attending the party at all. How the hosts will react to his absence is anybody's guess.
The rest of the group discuss the oddities of formal parties on the ride back to Jarlwolf. It is a pleasant ride. The morning has warmed up, almost enough to remind you of the summer just gone by. Above, Ewan utters a little shriek of delight before diving on some unsuspecting creature in a nearby field.
