Under a New Moon

Choices (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Monday July 2nd, 2007 5:35:12 PM

[OOC: Friends, DM Donna is having computer woes, so I am continuing to fill in for now. I am also easing Mosushi out of the game for now, and we'll be introducing a new player soon.]

Brahmah laughs at the Gargulite's fear of his bear, while offering some reassurance.

Mosushi suggests that chasing off the priest is probably not a good idea.

Winterglade rolls his eyes.

Flat-top laughs too, but also does a better job of putting the priest at ease.

Toros greets the holy man, and Gecktar makes tea and invites him to sit down.

Zeoll leads the bear away.

==========

Vern, in trying to get away from the bear, has a bigger problem! He runs toward the Black Sword, hidden in its smelly box. He stops short and turns white as the moon. The bear nuzzles his ears, and he does not notice. Every fibre of his being struggles to resist the Sword, and then he does!

Rebbe Vern stumbles back. Flat-top leads him to the fire. Zeoll leads the bear away. Gecktar puts him at ease. When he can talk, Brahmah asks the vital qustions.

"Tell us your story. What have you seen? What visions has the Great Eye given you?"

Vern shudders as he things about the Sword. "I saw IT in a dream," he says. "I knew it was made by the Lord of Death, but that it needed to be destroyed. Lord Gargul showed me a group of Taur, indeed, he showed me all of you, and he told me to help you destroy this thing."

"I know two ways to do it. The first requires a hammer or spike of adamantine, enchanted to the utmost [OOC: A +5 weapon]. Such a weapon could be found among the Dragons' Consortium, I would guess, but otherwise who else would have such a thing? And the nearest Dragons are many many leagues away."

"The other way I know is a more involved process, but it will unmake the thing. We must start at the New Moon, in two weeks. We can do that here, and so I urge that option."

"Meanwhile, I know a special spell to contain the thing. Let me cast the binding, and it will be held, for a day each casting. Then you can carry it around concealed, and there will be no danger of it reaching out to control you."

So I ask you, Chosen of Domi. Will you wait until the New Moon and then work with me to destroy this thing? And will you let me bind the weapon, so that it may be hidden and neutralized?"

Winterglade
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 5:38:40 AM

"The sword is an intelligent being. We are not talking about destroying, we are talking about killing. Ancient evil it may be, but still Winterglade's stomach turns in disgust at the thought of snuffing out life just like that, without second thought."

Flat-top
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 6:09:06 AM

Flat-top listens to the talk about how to distroy the Black Sword, "Wait a minute is it not the same thing? Killing It? and Distroying It??"

Brahmah
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 11:59:55 AM

"Semantics! No one had a problem trying to kill Vargas and his lot! Whats so different about the sword! Hasn't it killed before? It forces others to it's will!

Dead. Destroyed. I don't care how its said. It was crafted, not born or hatched. Its part of the Dark Lord and it must be removed from the Wold.

I'm with you Rebbe. Though I much like the idea of meeting the Consortium I've heard stories of. I think that the natural way is best for this though, easy, simple, gets the job done. Nature is the oldest thing we have to use against such an ancient evil.

Melt the thing down into ammo to use against Vargas for all its worth." He smiles.

Mosushi (AC 14, hps 32)[Sub Jay B]
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 12:02:58 PM

Is still in the bushes. (Invisible, 4 rounds remaining)
-------------------------

ONE CHARGE USED FROM WAND OF WEB. (SORRY!)

Gecktar
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 3:55:24 PM

"The Lord of Death Himself claim for what he has created. I have no problem about destryoing or killing this sentient being."

"Rebbe, I'm with you too. I will wait until the day has come and proceed to destroy the sword."

Zeoll
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 4:37:42 PM

"This thing is almost as purre an evil as I have everr met, second only to the God of Filth, whom I have also met. I would be happy to see it destrroyed in any case, but even if it werre my own child, an innocent unblemished, my sworrn holy oath to the Lorrd of Death would drrive me to destrroy it, orr myself."

Zeoll laughs, a little bitterly. "But since I have no desire for self-harrm regarrding this piece of trrash, I will simply confirrm my dedication to its destrruction, not my own."

Until the Moon is New (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 8:27:09 PM

The gargulite seems glad that the Chosen are willing (mostly?) to destroy the evil sword.

"Yes, we will kill it," he says, "as Great Gargul himself commands."

"But we must begin this business under a new moon. In the dark this thing was made, in the dark we will start its ending, and in the light of day it will be unmade."

"Let me cast my binding spell, and it will not trouble us until then." The priest casts a spell on the box with the sword, and immediately you feel a pressure lift. "The sword is now quiet, asleep, and it will not trouble you if no one touches it."

============

[OOC: Game time, it is about two weeks until the new moon. That gives us time to do some crafting, divide and sell loot, and have a little down time here on Liontaur Isle. Please feel free to visit the Catacombs as well. The party can enter the town together freely without danger from the sword. We can play that out, including town encounters if desired, and spend the rest of the week like that. Meanwhile, I will begin writing a short module and hoepfully Donna will rejoin us soon. This is also a great time to add our new PC, and to give Mosushi an honorable exit until Bill can return to us.]

Winterglade
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 6:10:32 AM

"Char's Temper all around. You speak one thing, but your actions do not follow your words. Why didn't you kill Vargas when you had a chance, then? He was there, defenseless, at your mercy. You didn't kill him."

"Winterglade wouldn't kill an innocent being even if Brawler himself demanded it of him. His faith has its limits."

"He will not aid you in destroying the blade, but neither he will oppose you. His word binds him to witness this matter till the very end."

[All right, let's divide up the loot.

Cayzle, would the following plan be possible: 1) vistit to the Catacombs, 2) 14 days of crafting, 3) second visit to the Catacombs?

Another thing, is it possible to get XP and hero points for the last module before the 14 day period starts? It makes a big difference for my character as it affects what he is able to work on.]

Flat-top
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 6:57:23 AM

"I'll help you to destroy That Evil thing!" Said Flat-top, "After all that evil Sword made me attack my friend Winterglade! I want it to die."

Cayzle OOC
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 7:57:36 AM

To answer Marcin's excellent questions:

Yes, it is okay to have a visit to the Catacombs, 14 days of crafting, and then another visit.

Nope, no experience points or hero points will be forthcoming from me. Sorry, but that's in Donna's hands, so unless I hear otherwise, I would not even know where to begin in making awards.

(You see I am hoping that Donna will be back soon. Of course, if she is gone for a very long time, we'll figure something out.)

Zeoll
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 8:16:57 AM

Zeoll is surprised at Glade's news. "You mean you had Varrgas and you did not kill him? If we had a Helm of Rreverrse Alignment, I could totally underrstand that, but until we get ourr hands on such a thing, next time I suggest a quick death!"

Here is the gear that Zeoll suggests for division:

+1 Large Unholy Adamantine Longsword
+1 Large Adamantine Breastplate w/ SR 13
+1 Large Adamantine Heavy Shield of Blinding
Ring of Freedom of Movement
Pearl of Power 2nd lvl
Cloak of Resistance +3
+1 Large Rapier of Wounding
+1 Large Studded Leather
Ring of Protection +2
+1 Large Greataxe
+1 Large Breastplate
Cloak of Resistance +1

[OOC: I'll compile the value of these items very soon so we can divide it fairly. Jay, please see my post on the Staff Board.]

Here is the loot that Zeoll thinks should NOT be sold:

"These things could be used forr scrrying orr forr otherr divinations in finding ourr enemies."

Ring of Shield Friend (one)
Nonmagic gear from the liontaur rogue:
-- 3x mw poison daggers
Nonmagic gear from Vargas:
-- backpack with a bedroll
-- two blankets
-- 3 servings of trail rations
-- a whetstone

Jay B
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 9:56:13 AM

Cayzle, I changed from Netscape to Firefox and can't seem to find the Staff Board anymore. Can you help. :) Whats the addy?

Gecktar
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 5:06:01 PM

"This will give me full time to end my work on new vestments.

Fine. I will begin as soon as I can"

OOC: Gecktar has Setano's vestment to work on. 11 days left of work. He certainly will do more than that with his remaining time.

Toros
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 11:37:45 PM

Not to worry about the black sword
Toros volunteers to watch the moon.

Flat-top
Thursday July 5th, 2007 7:13:59 AM

Flat-top hand ths long rod to Toros, "Oh! Thank you my friend Toros. Now I can get some rest and a nap>"

Winterglade
Thursday July 5th, 2007 7:29:05 AM

"Indeed we had that villain overpowered and unconscious. Winterglade finds it deeply disturbing that some of you would find it acceptable to kill a person who is utterly at your mercy and has no means to defend itself whatsoever, no matter what the circumstances may be. Winterglade doesn't believe that the end justifies the means, you see."

[Division sounds good, but I have a few suggestions:
1. I would be interesting in receiving the cloak of protection +3 as part of my share. If it's more valuable then a share I'd be willing to chip in some gold for it.
2. If they are only going to be used for divination I suggest selling two of the three masterwork daggers. Each is large and worth more than 600 gold.
3. Maybe we should sell the ring of Friend Shield? It's quite valuable, 25000 gp, and some extra equipment will probably benefit us much more than a vague possiblility of somehow using it in the future?]

Zeoll
Thursday July 5th, 2007 10:07:12 AM

Zeoll gets a quick price estimate from the Catacombs and shares what he has learned. The values below reflect the CC policy of selling for 9 silver on the gold. [OOC: I didn't really go to the Catacombs -- I'm acting with Substitute DM powers in offering the following.]

+1 Large Unholy Adamantine Longsword..........18,927

+1 Large Humanoid Adamantine Breastplate w/ SR 13 ..........17,460

+1 Large Adamantine Heavy Shield of Blinding..........6,336

Ring of Freedom of Movement..........36,000

Pearl of Power 2nd lvl..........3,600

Cloak of Resistance +3 ..........8,100

+1 Large Rapier of Wounding ..........16,506

+1 Large Nonhumanoid Studded Leather..........1,125

Ring of Protection +2 ..........7,200

+1 Large Greataxe..........2,106

+1 Large Humanoid Breastplate..........1,395

Cloak of Resistance +1..........900

Total Value..........119,655

Divided among seven..........17,093 each

Each Chosen can either take the cash or take items from the trove for their cash value. For example, if Glade takes the +3 Cloak, then he gets 17,093 - 8,100 = 8,993 gold with it.

[OOC: To address Marcin's points ... I think the Friend shield ring is worthless without its mate. They only work in pairs. Also, masterwork costs are not multiplied for large size weapons and armor, so the value of each dagger is only 1502 or so.]

Brahmah
Thursday July 5th, 2007 12:57:40 PM

OOC: Perhaps something mundane of Vargas' should be kept rather than the Ring of Friend Shield. Lets sell the ring and keep his tunic or something. Or even some of his dried blood from Brahmah's sword! That might work best to scry. Lets try to get something for the Ring anyway, even if its in game and NOT via the Catacombs.

My ruling for the ring as assistant to Nellie would be, 'Even without its partner, it has material component value. So I would give 12,500gp for it, or half single ring value. But thats my view as partially bias. :)'

In addition, keep in mind that if we can scry on it, so can the enemy. We could be watching each other. I suggest parting with everything of value and use the blood perhaps.

IC:
Brahmah is happy that he will be able to pay back several debts after the loot is split. "Zeoll, give Flat-top 11,764 gold from my portion." He looks at Flat-top. "My gold debt is paid in full friend!" He laughs. He takes off the Ring of Freedom of Movement and puts it in the pile of loot.

Gecktar
Thursday July 5th, 2007 5:26:02 PM

"I may have some use of the pearl of power. Another spell per day is something we could need. And if nobody wants the ring of protection, it will improve my defenses."

OOC : Gecktar would be glad to have the pearl, and if noone claims for it the ring of protection

Flat-top
Friday July 6th, 2007 7:50:44 AM

Flat-top look in suprised, "But Captain! It was a gift! I never expected back. You needed it, So I gave it to you."

Winterglade
Friday July 6th, 2007 8:16:33 AM

"Well, let's sell everything we can then. Winterglade could really use some rest after all that excitement, and spending a few days at a mind-numbing occupation like sewing might be just the thing to calm his nerves."

[If nobody else is interested in the Cloak of Resistance +3 then please make it part of my share. The rest I'll take in gold.]

Brahmah
Friday July 6th, 2007 2:14:29 PM

Brahmah's jaw drops. "F-f-flat-top, you must be crazy! Thats alot of loot! Are you sure?" The minotaur is stunned.
------------------------
(OOC: Sure Brahmah is interested in some of the goods in the pile, but as individual pieces are worth more than his portion, he'll pass. I will pass on items and take gold.

Also keep in mind that a portion of this should be sent for retaining and maintaining the Hearthold Keep! I'd say for each of the Chosen to give/donate any portion they could to the Keep. Brahmah will donate X when he's able after he buys some stuff. But he WILL donate. He may even donate to the orphanage the Children of Domi are staying in.)

R&R Begins (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Saturday July 7th, 2007 7:55:40 AM

A Quick Trip to the Catacombs results in the following loot division:

Winterglade: Cloak of resistance +3 and 8993 gp
Brahmah: 17,093 gold
Flat-top: 17,093 gold
Mosushi: 17,093 gold
Gecktar: Pearl of Power (second level), Ring of Protection +2 and 6,293 gold
Toros: 17,093 gold
Zeoll: 17,093 gold

OOC Note: I didn't really go to the Catacombs ... as substitute DM I can just wave my hand and make it so.

The following items were not sold and are now party treasure. If the party wishes to sell them later, that would be fine, but WILL require an actual trip to the Catacombs.

Ring of Shield Friend (one)
Nonmagic gear from the liontaur rogue:
-- 3x mw poison daggers
Nonmagic gear from Vargas:
-- backpack with a bedroll
-- two blankets
-- 3 servings of trail rations
-- a whetstone

Any further distribution of loot, whether in payment of debt or for charity or upkeep, is up to the individual. However, it must be said that some people have been sleeping on the same bedroll for years, and could use a new eating knife, or maybe a haircut. In other words, a reasonable sun spent on upkeep would ake sense.

Gecktar at least, knows what he intends to do. He has a magic item to finish crafting. How about everyone else? Where will you stay for the next two weeks?

The Eye of Gargul recommends the Wanderer's Roost, where you met him. He says that the bartender there, named Rissa, has been very welcome to his ministry.

What security do you have planned for the Black Sword? Who will carry it? Any special precautions?

Finally, what are you plans for the upcoming week or two? Please get all crafting down on the board now, for the record.

Brahmah
Saturday July 7th, 2007 10:42:23 AM

Brahmah doesn't do anything terribly useful with his time, at least to the eyes of the others.

He exercises, doing push ups, crunches and pull ups, also takes those morning runs with the centaurs, though not keeping up too well as he only has two legs!
The ranger works on his blade work and accuracy.

He also makes a point to cast Alarm on the box, and Snare (on a bundle of rope) near the box every night before bed. He makes a point to tell Rebbe the password so he can administer the correct spells when needed. He also mentions where the Snare is to the group.

Winterglade
Saturday July 7th, 2007 11:32:54 AM

"Winterglade will accompany you to Wanderer's Roost so that you may bask in the light of his mighty wisdom for a bit longer, but he will spend the nights on the fresh air - such as you can find on this tropical island. He also doubts the local food would be to his taste."

The centaur acknowledges the precautions already taken and doesn't have much to add aside from making sure there are at least four Taurs with the blade at all time. In his opinion an attack by Vargas is still quite probable.

On the first day he pays a visit to the Catacombs and spends the two weeks with a thread and needle working 16 hours a day, making two Cloaks of Comfort on the first day, and then working simultaneously on two Setanos's Vestments of Holy Incantations +1, finishing both at the very last day.

Brahmah
Saturday July 7th, 2007 1:01:35 PM

Brahmah will also ask Winterglade to possibly help him make a Spider Climb tattoo since he can't cast it himself.

Winterglade
Saturday July 7th, 2007 5:23:02 PM

"Winterglade would gladly help, but that magic lies beyond his repertoire. You need the help of one of them bookworm spellslingers, Captain."

[Winterglade is just a pure cleric, sorry Jay.]

Brahmah
Saturday July 7th, 2007 5:33:19 PM

OOC: Perhaps Brahmah was thinking about Zeoll. Is Zeoll at least a 3rd level druid? Spider Climb?

Zeoll
Saturday July 7th, 2007 9:33:24 PM

Zeoll is glad to help Brahmah put a Spider Climb tattoo together. And maybe the inventor of the tattoos could put a tattoo on Zeoll as well. He is thinking of Create Water and Detect Evil.

Brahmah
Sunday July 8th, 2007 7:11:17 AM

Brahmah will help with tattoos.

Taurs should consider tattoos that might replace the use of boots or slippers.

Just some suggestions for some tattoos.

Fighters with no spell casting levels who might like to do spell damage might want to consider Call Lightning, Flaming Sphere and Searing Light are just a few nice spells. Cure spells are ALWAYS useful on the front lines of combat.

For arcane spell casters, I suggest Bulls Strength, Bears Endurance, Barkskin, and maybe Cure X Wounds.

Of course, I am bias about tattoos... ;) Get what you want.

Purchase the materials for the level of tattoo you want, find out if anyone in the Chosen is able to cast it and then come to Brahmah... Brahmah will craft the tattoo for you. It'll save you gold... Brahmah doesn't get the commission on materials, but you can't have everything. ;)

Remember, only Divine spells of up to 3rd level are allowed in tattoos.

Flat-top has gone to the catacumbs and has not return, must be in trouble?? Again!!

Gecktar
Monday July 9th, 2007 4:35:52 PM

Gecktar works on his vestment all day long.

OOC : still needing clarifications, Cayzle did you received my email ?

Brahmah
Monday July 9th, 2007 5:24:55 PM

Brahmah keeps a close watch over the box for the next two weeks... spell of protection or not, the box can still be MOVED!
He casts snare and alarm frequently, making use of his Extension rod at every casting.

Heyoo even sits on the box, 'guarding it'.

Brahmah suddenly remembers that his bear needs training, so he does that. The minimum basics that all 'wild' animal needs; heel, guard, fetch, etc. Attack and down if necessary.

Brahmah
Monday July 9th, 2007 6:02:22 PM

For a couple of nights, Brahmah will prepare SPeak with Animal to help with training Heyoo.

Toros
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 1:55:41 AM

Taking over from Flat-top,
Toros continues his watch.
In cloudless nights,
he observes the beautiful moon.

Toros - Tunc
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 1:57:05 AM

Many thanks for the Loot division.
Toros is happy with his share.

Flat-top
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 6:54:48 AM

"POFF!!" Flat-top return from the Catacumbs, look around. Then ask "Did I miss anything? Where are we going now? Same Place we spoke about??" He marches along with his friends.

Zeoll
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 11:08:37 AM

Zeoll is happy to help with security. He can cast Fire Trap on the box. And he casts Spider Climb in helping Brahmah make his Tattoos.

"I am glad to help while I can, my frriends," he says. "Forr when I become a seerr, I will be limited to divinations and enchantments, and many magics I now know will be beyond me."

The druid/bard spends eight days making his Berrywreath -- a living magic plant that Zeoll wears on his head. It grows goodberries daily, and it can entangle the wearer, Zeoll warns his friends. After that, he spends six days making a wind fan.

He is grateful that Brahmah can also help during that time drawing two Tattoos on Zeoll: A Create Water, and a Detect Evil.

Keeping safe and sound (Sub DM Cayzle)
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 11:19:28 AM

The Chosen take no chances. The Black Sword, in its box, is protected by Alarm, Fire Trap, and Snare. Also, at least four Taurs are with it at all times.

Gecktar works on his vestments and ponders several questions ... Even with a Ring of Sustenance, only one magic item can be made at a time, and only 8 hours can be spent on it a day. Also, it is generally not possible to make items that have multiple powers [OOC: only stock items from the DMG and the Oshirr House can be made -- not custom multi-power items.]

Flat-top goes shopping.

Winterglade goes with the party to the tavern where the Eye of Gargul is staying, but the centaur needs space to run at other times.

When Brahmah is not crafting, he keeps fit and strong, maintaining his skills.

Toros is glad to keep watch and to get a share of the loot.

[OOC: One more post, please, and then it will be the New Moon. Okay?]

Brahmah
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 2:36:00 PM

The ranger will indeed help with tattoos, including his new Spider Climb tattoo.

If he has time, he trains his Heyoo.

The night before the New Moon, Brahmah sets up his watch. He lays out his bow and quivers for easy retrieval, sharpens his weaponry and polishes his armor.

Prepared Spells and Resources just before New Moon ceremony....

Spells:
Alarm x2, Snare

Resources:
Brahmah's Entangle Tattoo (unused)
Brahmah's Guidance Tattoo (unused)
Antitoxin x5
Detect Poison Scrolls x5
Bear's Endurance Scroll
Toros' Lesser Philter - Shield x2
Masterwork large composite longbow (Str+6)
Arrow x17
Arrow x20
Metamagic Rod of Extend, Lesser (unused)

Gecktar
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 5:03:04 PM

Gecktar searches for his captain and asks him "Brahmah would you mind crafting one of your famous tatoo for me. I intend to get one first level spell cast. Endure element seems a good idea because we travel far and wide and some protection against the element is quite useful."

"Could you do it for me ?"

Gecktar will get most of his time crafting his vestment. Eleven days later he goes to the catacombs to get some new stuff and the components for the tatoo if Brahmah agrees to make one for him.

Winterglade
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 3:24:18 AM

The centaur spends most of the time enjoying the relative peace and quiet of the outskirts of the town. He continues to busy himself with crafting his cloak.

[Aww, I have only just started being served in the Catacombs! Does this affect the work of my character anyhow?

If I can work on crafting only 8 hours a day I will make just one Cloak of Comfort and one Setanos's Vestment.

Hmm, Cayzle: the rules don't say you can work only on item per day, they say you can work only on one item at the time. What if I wanted to make multiple items that each can be finished within 8 hours? Could I make two per day on rest periods like these?]

Flat-top
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 7:46:49 AM

POOF!?? Flat-top arrives from the Catacumbs, "Boy! that last step is a wild one!"

"Captain A little package will be arriving soon! It will be for me, OK?" He ask.

Brahmah
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 12:46:35 PM

"I will craft tattoos for anyone who wants it, but buy your materials for them. It will cost less. I don't mind losing commission for a Chosen."

Zeoll
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 4:39:10 PM

To recap the liontaur's plans:

8 days to make a Berrywreath. 6 days to make a wind fan.

Help Brahmah with Spider Climb.

Get Tattoos of Create Water and Detect Evil

The New Moon Rises (DM Cayzle)
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 4:53:21 PM

After a couple weeks of rest and crafting, the Chosen meet behind the tavern where you have been staying. You gather in the same place that the priest was atytacked by magic wasps, actually. The field between the tavern and the outhouses.

The sky is dark. The Eye of Gargul peers into the sky. "It is time," he says.

The priest, Rebbe Vern, welcomes you and tells you that he has found a helper to get the mission accomplished. He needed an alchemist or a brewer, and he found one. "As soon as he gets here, I'll let him introduce himself."

The priest of the god of death tells you that he wants to dissolve the Black Sword in magical acid. He says that the mission is to make the acid and then immerse the sword in it.

But before that, he has to call for the blessing of Gargul in this mission.

He takes the box that has the sword and sets it on the ground.

Just then, a wemic in a nightshirt steps out fof the Tavern. "What's this?" he roars. "Can't an honest liontaur use the facilities without running into a gang of cultists!"

Brahmah  d20-1=7
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 6:55:33 PM

The minotaur objects to having the ritual so public, but only states this half heartedly. "Do we all have to be here at your side Rebbe? I'd like to set up a defensive perimeter."

He draws his own swords and waits, standing defensively over Rebbe. "I don't like this Rebbe. Inviting someone else to this ritual! You didn't say anything about that. Are they trustworthy? We barely know you friend."

The ranger eyes the outhouse wemic suspiciously, then tells him, "Do your business and move on friend." He flashes his armor, a button with the symbol of Domi on it. He glances at Winterglade as well as Gecktar. "If we're cultists sir, I'm a halfling!"

Brahmah tries to remember seeing this wemic in the tavern before this moment. (Int 7) No luck.

Brahmah's description
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 7:45:18 PM

Brahmah stands just over 8 feet tall and is clearly a physical force within this group, with his missing tail, missing left ear, MANY tattoos, scars, engraved horns (sea life motifs)and natural musculature. His dark eyes flash and his thick black hair is dull in the star light. He is considerably ugly and serious as minotaurs go, but it is clear that he is a kind leader and friend.

It is obvious that this minotaur is a ranger. His two swords, bow and highly worn gear makes this clear, though his mithril shirt and weaponry are very well kept.

There is an air of distrust when first meeting him but then quickly switches to a more friendly demeanor.

A young black bear mills about the ranger trying very hard to get a bite to eat whenever he can.

Winterglade
Thursday July 12th, 2007 6:23:12 AM

Winterglade is standing away from the main group of Chosen, sulking, not really liking the way the sword is being disposed of.

"What's this? Can't an honest liontaur use the facilities without running into a gang of cultists!"

"And exactly what do you think cultists would be doing at this place, summoning the dread lord Constipator?"

Winterglade is rather small and stringy for a centaur. His face is unremarkable, and the most prominent feature of his appearance is his white mane. Silvery armor can be seen under his travel cloak. A huge shield is strapped to his back. No weapons can be seen on his body.

Flat-top
Thursday July 12th, 2007 6:49:30 AM

Flat-top advances in besides Winterglade, "What ever My Friend Winterglade, and my other Friends has stated, Well! I goes Double for me!"

Flat-top is a big Centaur, his armor covers his chest (with the emblem of Domi on it). Also his masive arms, you know this is a Fighter. Yes A fighter!! One you don't want to mee in a dark alley.

Brahmah
Thursday July 12th, 2007 10:07:39 AM

"Get on with it Rebbe. This place is too exposed."

Toros
Thursday July 12th, 2007 10:17:28 AM

The new moon rises and disappears very quickly.
What the priest suggests sounds like a good plan, and now it is time to execute it.
Toros ignores the wemic that has come out of the tavern for the moment.

Kael
Thursday July 12th, 2007 10:25:00 AM

Why was he so quick to trust this human? The thought had been running through Kael's head ever since he agreed to this meeting. The human knew about the dreams that have troubled him these past months, and if this meeting would bring the promise of a good night sleep he was more than happy to meet with this priest and his friends.

Kael trudged through the streets of the Liontaur City a trail of smoke in his wake as he puffed away in contemplation on his ornate curved pipe. The hefty weight of his great axe on his back bolstered his courage allowing his curiosity to subdue any fear he may be harboring.

Rounding the corner the brewer came upon the peculiar and eclectic group of taurs. Keeping close to his escape Kael looked for the priest that called him to this meeting.

"I hope I haven't kept you." Kael took a long pull off his pipe hoping it would sooth his nerves. There were centaurs here.

At first glance Kael appears to be nothing more than an aging Minotaur brewer, it isn't until the fine details begin to come together that the depth of his experience comes through. His massive great axe, hints of armor, and sculpted frame, contrast his contemplative demeanor and arcane accouterment that adorn the master brewer. Kael's fur is a whitish gray with random patches of light brown, a long braided goatee extends from his chin reaching as far as the center of his chest. Intermittent puffs of smoke rise from a elegantly crafted pipe that Kael has a habit of puffing on when he is deep in thought.

[OOC: Hi all, looking forward to the adventure]

Zeoll  d20+21=26
Thursday July 12th, 2007 2:31:51 PM

Zeoll tries to reassure Brahmah, and he laughs at Glade's joke about constipation. He laughs even harder when Flat-top agrees with Glade so seriously.

When the wemic enters to use the facilities, Zeoll speaks to him, trying to calm him down, and then to send him on his way. Diplomacy 26.

Zeoll bows to the newcomer minotaur. The wemic is from those who consider themselves less cilvilized than the merchant wemics that travel the isles. His mane and tail is braided with beads and feathers. His leather armor is worn but shows relatively fewer signs of actual use in combat -- more likely, Zeoll stays out of fights.

But he carries a greatsword on his back, so maybe he is a fighter, of a sort. He also has a drum, a wreath of green leaves and blue berries on his head, and a small leather pouch on a cord around his neck.

Brahmah
Thursday July 12th, 2007 3:38:48 PM

Brahmah nods curtly to the brewer, but remains silent and vigilant.

Winterglade
Friday July 13th, 2007 1:07:24 AM

The centaur rises an eyebrow in surprise. "Another hornhead? On a furball isle? You sir are far away from home. Seems there are more Taurs crazy enough to wander around than Winterglade originally thought."

[Welcome to the game Adam!]

The Ritual (DM Cayzle)
Friday July 13th, 2007 8:29:47 AM

The intruding liontaur makes use of the facilities and then makes a quick exit.

Vern requests that AT LEAST one of each of the Taur races stand with him for the ceremony. The others can guard as they see fit.

Who will stand up?

Then, standing over the sword sleeping in its box, the Rebbe casts some unfamiliar magic -- half spell, half prayer. In it he asks Lord Gargul to bless the creatures here and to open the Black Sword that He made so that it now, with His permission, may be unmade.

Then he asks each of the assisting Taurs to aid in this effort. Say a prayer, cast a spell, speak an oath, or in some way make a contribution to the invocation of the god or the destruction of the weapon. "The effort is what matters," says Vern.

Those who have stepped forward to help with the ceremony -- what will you do? Those who are on guard -- what will you do?

[OOC: Ironically, now *I* am having computer woes. My laptop is in the shop. But it should be A-OK after I get it back later today.]

Gecktar
Friday July 13th, 2007 9:00:01 AM

Gecktar is a sturdy minotaur and is clearly a follower of Domi. The holy symbol hanging on his chest, the hammer he has on is side and the Anvil on his shield clearly designate im as priest of Domi.

He too laugh at the joke of Glade and greets the minotaur. "What a fellow minotaur is looking for in this part of the Wold ?"

He then returns to his duty near the Gargulite, and cast a spell to help the ritual

Cast 'divine power' to help.

OOC: I'm on holidays now and I will try to post regulary but I don't know if I will be able to have a connection every day...

Brahmah
Friday July 13th, 2007 11:23:05 AM

Brahmah will not stand for the ritual, but be on guard for the ritual, citing the fact that a warrior is needed to stand guard but is likely useless in this ritual. "My value is to protect the sword and Rebbe as the ritual is performed."

Kael
Friday July 13th, 2007 2:41:48 PM

Gecktar's question had been going through Kael's mind ever since he started his journey to uncover the meaning of these bizarre dreams. He held his answer for the moment not wanting to interfere with the ritual, his hand resting on the hilt of his throwing axe. It seemed his new companions were worried about possible interference, and Kael was not going to be caught off guard.

Flat-top

Flat-top has sais nothing so far, he has watch this Cleric?? that's the scroniest Horn Head that this centaur has ever seen.

Flat top go's into his prayer,"Domi! My pray to you is to help Robbe Kale work!" Pray's This Big Centaur, his coat Black with White Spots, his hair, Main and Tail are all white. his hooves are black (the frount hoves loo like his horse shoes seem to have a ring around the edge of his hoves that comes to a nasty point. Saturday July 14th, 2007 3:43:21 PM

The centaur stands still, his arms folded on his chest. Flat-top has taken it on himself to represent centaurs in this event - a last sign of his previous fascination with the blade, perhaps?

How will annals of history describe this event? "And so the mighty blade was unmade between a privy and a shady inn. So ends the saga of the Veiled Queen." Then his thoughts go to the mysterious lover of the queen, lost so long ago. Who was he? Did he manage to rejoin her in the end?...

Brahmah
Monday July 16th, 2007 11:52:52 AM

Still unsure of his motives this early in his appearance, Brahmah watches Kael suspiciously.

(OOC: Adam, how is Kael pronounced?)

Moshushi
Monday July 16th, 2007 12:21:49 PM

Bill lives!!!!! Finally have a working computer

Moshushi

Moshushi is scrawny by wemic standards, with sunken eyes and stringy muscles. His left arm is heavily scarred. He tends to always be in motion, whether twitching, pacing, or just moving his tail around.

He has a pack on his back, and wears a slightly tattered vest/cloak (he likes pockets). A massive sword is on his back, though rarely used.

Zeoll  d20+19=39
Monday July 16th, 2007 3:21:23 PM

Zeoll smiles at the different ways the Chosen contribute to the task at hand. The contributions are as diverse as the Taurs themselves -- in race, in class, and in temperment no less -- and if all these can work together to end a great evil, then surely they can work together to bring long-sundered brothers and sisters together.

For his effort to aid in the destruction of the sword, Zeoll plays his drum and softly sings a wordless melody. The music is designed to inspire and give confidence.

Perform Check 39 is a nat 20! Woo hoo! And Inspire Competence.

The New Moon Looks Down (Sub DM Cayzle)
Monday July 16th, 2007 3:38:07 PM

Gecktar greets the new Taur and asks a telling question. Then he adds his magic to the ritual.

Brahmah stands guard. His contribution will be to security -- and with Vargas still on the loose, that is no small matter.

Kael, the minotaur who has just entered the scene, is a little unsure. He waits and watches carefully.

Flat-top stands near the Rebbe and offers his own heartfelt prayer that Domi would lend his aid to the Gargulite's work.

Winterglade stands still, content to let Flat-top aid for the centaurs. He thinks about the evil Blade and its long history.

Toros offers a simple prayer as well.

Mosushi, who has been quiet of late, lets his friends know by his demeanor that he is still alert.

Zeoll adds a musical element to the Gargulite's divine magic ... an almost perfect complement to the work at hand, he thinks.

=========

The Priest casts a spell, and no spellcraft will tell you what it is. Before the spell is cast, the new moon -- Wardd's Moon -- is invisible in the shadows that cloak it, just as it always is at this time of the lunar month. At the moment, it is the only moon in the sky, and you cannot see it. Then, as the ritual is cast, the shadows part and the moon is revealed -- a perfect sclerotic-white orb, without mark. Then the orb rolls in place -- like an EYE rolling in a socket -- and then the iris and the pupil of the EYE rolls into view. You sense the EYE peering down, straight down at the box that contains the sword.

Those with a divine bent might have a hint:

If you can roll a Know Religion DC12 check, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You can tell, from the parting of the shadows and the moon-as-eye, that this is a special miracle from Gargul.}

If you can roll a Know Religion DC17 check, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You have a sense of awe from what you deduce is the appearance of an avatar of the god himself.}

Then the Gargulite speaks, but not in his own voice. "Before the new moon rises again, dissolve IT in the Tears of the Land under the Sun of the clear Sky."

The human priest falls prone, the moon returns to normal, and all is as it was. In the distance, you hear screaming, and cries in the wemc tongue: "Aaaiii!" "Save us from these omens!" "Doom!" "The gods die again!"

Gecktar  d20+8=11
Monday July 16th, 2007 6:01:48 PM

Gecktar is a priest but he is completly ignorant about this ceremony and do not reaizes what really happens.

Whenhe hears the wemic's cry he turn to face the one who was crying.

Still alert and vigilant he hands his hammer.

Brahmah
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 12:19:12 AM

DM, Please Highlight to display spoiler: {Not complaining, great module. A new moon is technically dark in the sky. What you are describing is a full moon under lunar eclipse. Just a detail. ;) If I'm wrong, please correct me.}

"Don't worry Flat-top, Winterglade doesn't hold a grudge."

[Knowledge: Religion 16]

Winterglade shifts uneasily, sensing that one of the gods is directly intervening here.

A minute of silence passes. Then the centaur trots over to the prone cleric and gently taps his knee with a hoof. He turns to the rest of the Chosen and sighs.

"It's never that easy, is it? What in the Nine Hells are the Tears of the Land? And when is the next new moon?"

[Knowledge: Arcana 17 to figure out how many days we have to complete the ritual]

Flat-top
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 7:03:09 AM

Flat-top see's the Moon turn into an Big Eye, then IT speaks?? "Yikes!! I did not pray for that!!"

But Winterglade speakes to him, he calm down "Thank you Glade, I need reasureance. I think I'll be alright now." But Flat-top is still a little shakem.

Kael
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 8:41:21 AM

"Was that what you were hoping for?" A bit disturbed by the whole affair. The scream in the distance not adding to his confidence.

(OOC: the "ae" is pronounce ay like in say, so it would be Kay-l.)

Brahmah
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 10:17:48 AM

(Adam, we had another Kale once. He was a rogue though, one of the best. :) I'm sure the brewer will be great. We Chosen like the drink ;))

Brahmah looks in the direction of the scream. "Uh oh." He remembers the last time a God died. He grips the hilts tighter and then something dawns in his mind.
"Chosen, I think we might have to put out the fires of fear from the wemics. Perhaps Zeoll, you can calm them." He heads toward the street from the outhouses.

Moshushi
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 11:58:50 AM

"The gods speak to their children, and my people are saddened? Though admittedly these words are not particularly encouraging. O clear.""

DM Clarification
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 1:21:30 PM

The new moon is completely dark -- you cannot see it at all. But during the ritual, "the shadows part and the moon is revealed." That means the new moon LOOKS like the full moon. And after that it looks like a rolling eye that spins in an eye socket and looks down at you.

When the ritual is done, the shadows again cover the moon, and it is new (unseen) again.

I hope that is more clear.

Brahmah
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 2:16:51 PM

OOC: AW! I see, like a great set of eyelids? Okay. That is cool. :)

IC:
Brahmah looks quickly at Mosushi. "Interpretation Mo. Many peoples believe different things about the same event.
While we know what is going on, think about how you might see it if you didn't. I, personally, would be scared out of my damn mind!"

Toros
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 3:50:18 AM

Toros is amazed with the ritual,
but happy that it is over after all.
Perhaps he will stop watching

Flat-top
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 6:30:11 AM

Flat-top Feels uneasy, with the moon Playing trick?? and all. "Captain! I don't like this magic? I have a bad feeling!"

But he stands ready>

Brahmah
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 12:09:40 PM

Brahmah nods at Flat-top and moves to stand over Rebbe.

DM Highlight to display spoiler: {If Rebbe does anything like try to pick up the sword, or acts funny after rising from his clapse, Brahmah will put him 'down' for the good of the Wold. :)}

Not sure about the arcane mysteries surrounding the sword, the minotaur is uneasy, but he doesn't show it.

Kael
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 4:22:42 PM

Kael rolls the words around in his head. "Not to pry, but what did the priest mean when he said 'IT'?"

Brahmah
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 5:22:29 PM

Standing over the priest, Brahmah turns to the newcomer.
"We have only known Rebbe for two weeks. He has distain for this evil thing or so he says. I believe 'it' is the sword, the Black Sword. But anything could have been meant. I've seen a lot. The sword could hold anything within it. A soul of an evil person or a good one. It could be a key.
However, it is evil and needs to be destroyed. We've been sorting out what to do with it for nearly a month and a half now. Week up a mountain, a week down, two weeks waiting for this.
Your not prying Kael, your wise to ask this."

He sighs. "When I was called to the Chosen, I was on a ship in the middle of the sea, playing body guard and indebted to the captain for saving my life. A life debt.
He told me before leaving that to be given a mission by a God in a vision is rare and special. He also said to ask a question is the first stage of wisdom.

The answer will show itself soon enough."

Jay
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 5:23:47 PM

OOC: Is Mosushi posting today? If not I will for you? :)

Gecktar
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 6:11:36 PM

Gecktar now thinks about the riddle. One more to elude... He is not great at this, Zeoll is much better... Maybe some divinations will help.

Zeoll
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 8:48:16 PM

The liontaur hears his people crying out in fear, mostly in the wemic tongue. He takes Brahmah's advaice to heart and moves off scene, trying to find troubled souls, sooth teir fears, lead them in hymns, and reassure the masses.

"I'll rreturrn soon, frriends," he tells the Chosen. "Guarrd the Sworrd well until we meet again!"

The Aftermath of the Ritual (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 9:40:54 PM

Gecktar hears the wemic people cry out., and he is vigilant.

Flat-top is a little shook up.

Winterglade checks the priest. He is okay, and staggers to his feet. He asks what happened ... seems he does not know what he said while speaking the god's words.

Glade knows what it was all about, though. So does Kael, the newcomer. At least part of it. The Tears of the Land is a small island among the Shipwreck Shoals. The island has many fresh springs, the water from which is sometimes used in brewing potions and wine.

Brahmah hears a Taur cry out that this omen might mean a god has died. Everyone remembers when many of the gods DID die, and that was prety horrible, even if it seems more like a forgotten nightmare now, and no one is clear on the details.

But just because one person is afraid does not mean that his fear is a true one.

Mosushi is a little more than somewhat disconcerted, though. Brahmah tells him that interpreting these kinds of events is not easy.

Toros is in a measure of awe, and he scans the skies for a while after the ritual ends.

Brahmah steps over to help the Rebbe, or maybe to make sure that he is not influenced by the sword.

Kael asks for some fundamental info, and Brahmah fills him in the Evil Sword that the party has fetched here, and that their mission is to destroy. Now that the ritual has weakened the Sword, maybe the Chosen can achieve its final destruction, if they can figure out the instructions for doing so.

Winterglade
Thursday July 19th, 2007 5:31:58 AM

Winterglade briefly relates what transpired to the priest of Gargul. Then a recollection strikes him.

"Wait a moment... Tears of the Land... Isn't that an island off the Shipwreck Shoals? Does it ring a bell to any of you old pir- sailors? Good grief. Another sea voyage is imminent, no?"

"Let Winterglade take a moment to figure out how fast a ship do we need. Unless you would know, Rebbe?"

[Any chance to figure out how much time do we have? Anybody took Knowledge:Astronomy?]

Flat-top
Thursday July 19th, 2007 6:07:08 AM

As he listen to what Winterglade is figuring what 'Tears of the Land' meanimgs, it strike Flat-top a image of that same Dangerious Island.

He speaks in alow voice, "Oh! Domi! Help Us."

Mosushi
Thursday July 19th, 2007 9:08:34 AM

eoll seems to have a good idea. Moshushi will wander off and try to be encouraging, should he encounter worried wemics.

Brahmah  d20+5=11 d20+5=18 d20+6=8

But to Winterglade, "Brush up on a lot of Defenses and Offensive Spell, You'll need them all! Just ask Zeoll! He was a prisoner with me. But we made it by the skin of our teeth!"

Brahmah
Friday July 20th, 2007 9:43:52 AM

"Can't be weirder than the Island of Doc Mauroth or whatever his bloody name was! I still would like to have a word with him and goons!!"

Gecktar
Friday July 20th, 2007 5:21:42 PM

At the words of Brahmah, Gecktar remembes the ad days they lived in this isle.

"I agree captain. This should be done, one day or another..."

"But let's concentrate on the sword. Is there a place where we could get a very detailled map of the Wold ? Maybe we would be able to get some clues about the riddle."

Kael
Friday July 20th, 2007 5:54:42 PM

Kael watched as the group discussed. The plot was thickening and he was wondering what Domi had gotten him into.

A black sword housing an unknown evil, which they must now destroy. A twinge rose up the back of his neck as he remembered the failed adventuring days of this youth.

No longer a brash youth, and accompanied by what appeared to be a band of seasoned adventurers he allowed himself the optimistic thought that perhaps this lot will fair better.

Kael felt his introduction could hold until a plan had been decided upon.

Brahmah
Friday July 20th, 2007 7:29:33 PM

OOC: Adam, just a quick word about Brahmah and the rest.
Brahmah seems to be quite a bit older that the majority of the Chosen, his mid-forties by the looks, getting on for a minotaur.
His dark hair is becoming peppered with silver-gray, however lightly.

Winterglade
Saturday July 21st, 2007 6:38:21 AM

"Flat-top, Winterglade is a healer, not some kind of brute who goes around killing things. You can rely on him to provide cures, but he would have to be extremely hard-pressed to rise a hand against another live being."

Brahmah
Saturday July 21st, 2007 12:57:46 PM

The ranger smiles at Winterglade. "You'll have to get over that little quirk, friend."

Winterglade
Monday July 23rd, 2007 2:34:49 AM

"That's not a quirk, you hornhead, it's an existential philosophy!"

"Sigh. Sometimes Winterglade thinks his own tribe has moved too far ahead of everyone in spiritual developement for its own good. Good thing the Windwalkers live on a barren steppe. Had we anything of material value we would have been raided by everyone around."

Zeoll
Monday July 23rd, 2007 6:30:11 AM

"Thank you forr helping," Zeoll tells Mosushi. After they have done what they can to help people aroundabouts, Zeoll suggests getting back to the group. "It's not safe to be aparrt forr verry long," he says.
