Lorth
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 8:39:17 AM

Lorth takes care that he keeps the borrowed garment safe on the return trip to Jarlswolf. He folds it neatly and places it in his backpack.

He listens to Davros's advice and tries to commit it to memory.

Harvest
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 9:59:42 AM

"Do you think that they are a Noble family, Davros Sapphiredge? The Jerse family?" Harvest Moon asks upon the ride back. The question comes from deep within her thoughts and it echoes with her preoccupation.

"I hope that the party tomorrow is not of the kind that you speak, Malgant, Follower of Domi. I think that it would be a shame to make such a thing of the boy's accomplishments. Though ... not to speak ill ... but the lady of the house, Itzel Jerse's mother, Dame Jerse ... she appeared to me ... to be a very ... "

Harvest Moon frowns, the only outward manifestation of the struggle within her between the words she might once have spoken and words with less violence and vulgarity.

" ... she is very ... Formal, is she not?"

The homes and buildings of Jarlwolf appear up the road. The sun stands straight up above, mid-day.

"What significance had you been expecting, Bralin Stoneminder?" Harvest Moon asks.

Davros
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 3:37:14 PM

"It is difficult to say, Harvest. What constitutes a noble from Jarlwolf is not quite the same thing as a noble from a larger city. Families also could have upward or downward mobility with their social ranking depending upon the family business and how well it is doing from year to year. We shall just have to mind our manners and see how it goes."

Any
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 4:33:27 PM

Listening to the comments presented, Any says,

"I agree some parties can be a little 'stuffy'. As an entertainer, I have been to more of these types of occasions than I sometimes care to recall. All you can do is smile, and endure. If it gets too boring, we an always excuse ourselves at the first opportunity and leave."

He orders a meal at the Inn, and he invites all of his friends to join him. Then, upstairs, he lays out his finest clothes, brushes them out, polishes his boots, and runs through the list of songs he feels might be fitting for this occasion. Come the morning, he will be ready--for anything.

Bralin
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 4:41:44 PM

"Prude"

Bralin helpfully supplies the word Harvest seems to be struggling to find.

"I was not searching for any significance," he answers. "There was much talking, and I was seeking affirmation that nothing of interest was said."

Malgant
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 5:35:54 PM

"Davros, you saw that too? I am sorry but I felt so closed in inside that small house. After the offense that Dame Jerse took at the mention of the word common I knew I dare not say anything about the place being small but still..... I could barely turn around without bumping into something. You folks and your low ceilings and small rooms filled with furniture, drive a minotaur to drink you do."
Malgant returns to the Inn with the others and once there sets about searching for Lily. Mostly he is concerned for her well being since she did no travel out to the Jerse house with them today. He is also partly concerned that he may not be able to borrow her hat for the upcoming party.

Florin Jadenth
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 11:12:27 PM

Florin looks to the others and leaves with them. When the group is off a good distance and Bralin says his questions and comments on things also, Florin speaks his own thoughts, "I didn't notice anything of real note being said Bralin, however I also personally think the lady was making sure of that. It al seemed abit to formal or in your words prudish to me. I do not mean to speak bad, just seems like there was things to be learned that the lady did not want known. I would guess they are noble or atleast found their way into being so, acting like that takes some getting use to for most people and not something that comes on over night. My own father and mother for instance are much the same as is my brother and my sister can be also."

Florin thinks of his parents and frowns some, Florin had gained quite abit of standing in the Temple of Domi in the Floating City, exactly what his parents wanted so what will they say on hearing of his wedding. He almost chuckles at the carrier pigeon or something that could be sent, "I should see to the temple of Domi and make sure nothing has arrived that I need to be aware of also. I know Jella would not of arrived yet or nothing but some other word could of. Malgant, would you like to join me?"

Florin in his off time will go check the temple for any word at all and such.

(Kathy: If needed the background info on Florin's parents is on my CS. The only understanding they come to which isn't mentioned in it, is that Florin bluntly has informed them that they would and could not use Jella to increase their standing in the Floating City, to do so would bring on Florin's wrath.)

Arriving in Jarlwolf, you spend some time discussing the Jerse family and what they might be all about. Harvest, having little experience with those who aspire to the nobility, is especially puzzled.

Maglant is concerned for Lily and spends some time looking for her. Her room at the inn has been vacated, and Maglant finds that she has left a note for the group. "Duty calls," she has written breezily. "Or, that is, adventure calls, which amounts to the same thing. I must leave you for a time. I hope to see you again soon." It is signed with a large, flourishing "L".

[OOC: I'm not sure when, or if, Robert is coming back, so we'll send Lily off on a mysterious solo adventure.]

Florin checks, but there is no word yet of Jella.

The rest of the day, and the night, pass uneventfully, and the morning of the party dawns.

Lorth
Wednesday June 20th, 2007 9:26:16 AM

In the morning Lorth rises early and takes a bath. He then retires to his room and gets dressed in his party clothes. Over that he puts his large cloak so that he doesn't get dirty on his way to the Jerse's house.

When his friends are ready to go he summons Tobiasz and stowes all his gear on him, in the saddlebags.

Harvest
Wednesday June 20th, 2007 10:32:33 AM

Early come morning. Harvest Moon prays to Alemi before leaving the room to gather another armload of flowers for the party. This time, however, she harbors doubts. What if the flowers are not good enough for the Formal nature of the party? Would this possibly bring embarrasments down upon her friends and companions? Worse yet, might it cast the Jerse family in a bad light?

Best to gather them. Once gathered, they need not necessarily be brought.

When time comes, she dresses in her best clothing, accenting her dark brown skirt and bright yellow blouse with the silver-shot scarf that she had borrowed.

Bralin
Wednesday June 20th, 2007 10:55:42 AM

Bralin is not totally unfamiliar with formal affairs, having attended clan functions back in the day.

The dwarf dutifully takes a bath and rebraids his forked beard and ponytail, tying off each with a circular obsidian clip. He wears black breeches and boots, with a black cotton shirt that buttons down the left side. The top two buttons are open, and the top corner of the shirt (grey interior) is folded down. He carries a black leather bag - strap over right shoulder, bag on left hip. It is several inches across, and carries his obsidian holy symbol as well as some other items. (three small stones, three thunderstones, and a wand). He carries his dagger on his right side.

The dwarf also wears his ring, amulet, and cloak.

The rest of his gear, including armor, is stowed on his horse.

Any rises, and after breaking his fast, he carefully dresses for the party. He dons his mithril shirt under his outer garments, adjusting everything carefully so the armor does not show. He puts his magical dagger in his boot, again where it is hidden. His sword and bow both go into his quiver, and along with his Haversack, these are put on Moonshadow when it is almost time to go. His Lute is cleaned and tuned, and placed in the case on his back.

He gives Frieda and Moonshadow both a good brush down and curry at his own hands, and braids a yellow ribbon into Frieda's mane and tail, the color just matching Harvest's shirt. Moonshadow receives a simialr ribbon in blue, matching his own finery.

When it is time to go, he brings the horses up to the Inn,

"Shall we depart?"

Malgant
Wednesday June 20th, 2007 6:00:03 PM

No longer concerned ( well not worried anyway) about where Lily has gone, Malgant prepares for the party. Over his best clothes he wears the tabbard of his order, with a dagger belted at his waist. Domi's symbol of a hammer over a shield is worn around his neck and his totem bag is tucked inside his tunic, bringing him comfort. As an aspiring protector he feels that the armor is a badge of station and as formal as the tabbard and robes he wears. Yet he does not feel that it fits at a party such as the one they are about to attend and it will remain behind in his room with his sword. He descends the stairs and awaits the rest of the group in the tavern.

You spend the day making preparations, and, as evening begins to fall, you make your way back out to the Jerse house.

You find it has undergone quite the transformation in the 30-some hours since you visited it. Light pours out of all the windows, and a faint sound of music comes from inside. The simple farmyard has been transformed to a faerie realm, with globes of colored light hanging over a profusion of hothouse flowers.

Before the gate, a small sqad of stable-hands trots back and forth, helping guests from horses and carriages, then moving the animals to temporary pens set up nearby.

You are on the early side, but there are already quite a few people here. The mostly-empty animal pens, however, suggest that many more are expected.

At the front door, the pleasant servant-girl you saw earlier is greeting guests and taking their wraps. She holds a great pile of capes, coats, caps, scarves, bonnets, shawls, and other wraps--indeed, it is possible to make out only her eyes and the top of her head. Light and music fills the room beyond her.

Lorth
Thursday June 21st, 2007 8:24:42 AM

Approaching the gate Lorth dismounts, he leaves all his gear on Tobiasz.
He hands his reins to one of the stable boys and presses three gold pieces into his hand. Softly he says, "My horse doesn't need to go into one of the pens, just stand him out of the way and he will take care of himself."

Lorth looks into Tobiasz's eyes and thinks about waiting outside and watching for danger, then ends with some images of calmness.

Spinning around he makes his way towards the house.

Harvest
Thursday June 21st, 2007 11:21:40 AM

Such a transformation.

"It is beautiful, Anthos." Harvest Moon puts a reassuring hand to Fyrda's side before she is lead away. "Then she takes Anthos' arm, walking with him under the hanging lights toward the music.

Bralin
Thursday June 21st, 2007 11:29:36 AM

Arriving at the temporary holding pens, Bralin takes one look at the security setup and turns to Florin.

"I wish to store my arms and armor with your mount, with your permission," he says. "T'will be safer on your steed than mine."

If Florin assents, Bralin moves his armor, shield, hammer and axe to the paladin's horse. He then follows the group in. He keeps his cloak.

Arminas
Thursday June 21st, 2007 12:25:59 PM

Arminas weighs his options, and though the forest and solitude looks good, he feels obligation to the group. So strong in fact, he has decided that he must attend the party. Considering what to wear, he contemplates using a magical seal to conjure up expensive clothes. No, it is not worth the effort to impress these people.. Instead, he cleans his clothes and does his best to be presentable.

Upon getting close to the farm, Arminas looks for a large tree nearby, just outside the decorated area. Gathering his supplies, he climbs to the highest part of the tree and ties his gear to a secure branch. (he does the same with anyone else's gear who wants). Then, he cast Alarm setting a mental alarm to warn him if anyone goes near his gear.

On his person, he has a dagger and some scrolls (speak with animals, summon nature's ally III, entangle) and a potion of darkvision. He wears his mithril shirt under his clothes.

Casting 'speak with animals' he asks Darkfire to stay viligant, but to Ewan he gives instructions.

Stay in this tree (one adjacent to the one with gear). Guard carefully.

Malgant
Thursday June 21st, 2007 7:44:20 PM

Malgant follows the others to the house and watches their preparations. The protector inside him screams that if they are atacked he is woefully under prepared to meet the challenge. The calm priest of Domi inside him counters that faith in Domi and in his friend's preparations will see him, and them through any trouble that may arise. The priestly side wins, since there is nothing do do about the lack of preparation, and Malgant approaches the door with the others, hoping that at least some of the party is outside so that he does not need to be so careful about how and where he steps.

Any
Thursday June 21st, 2007 8:48:58 PM

Arriving at the Jerse house, Any is pleasntly surprised at the transformation.

When Arminas offers to stow his gear in the nearby tree, he gladly accepts the offer. That taken care of, he takes Harvest by the arm, and escorts her into the house. He seeks out the hostess first, and greeting her, then seeks to meet the object of this party.

He will wait to play any music untill he is asked, as the musicians already playing have very evidently been hired for this purpose.

Davros
Thursday June 21st, 2007 9:56:21 PM

Davros wears his fine clothes and looks rather presentable. Upon arriving at the house, he mentions to everyone that he is impressed.

"Well, it's time. Let's try not to embarass ourselves," Davros says with a smile.

DM Kathy
Friday June 22nd, 2007 2:53:30 AM

All adventurers are paranoid - or at least, all adventurers who have lived to a ripe old age have been paranoid. You therefore make some security arrangements before leaving your horses and making your way into the party. The grooms are somewhat puzzled by Lorth's request, but in the end seem to decide not to quarrel with such an important-looking man. Tobiasz is placed beside one of the pens.

Arminas finds his tree and gives instructions to Ewan and Darkfire. Both animals grumble, as neither is especially nocturnal. In the end, though, they agree--Ewan because of the love she has for Arminas, and Darkfire because he might get to bite somebody.

When you reach the house, you find that Lucarinda, the maid, has taken advantage of a brief lull in arrivals to bring the wraps to wherever she is placing them. She comes panting up, empty-handed once more, just as you enter. "Take your wraps, gentles?" she gasps.

"Really, Lucarinda," her mistress rebukes her mildly. "Is it too much to ask that you remain by the door?"

"No, ma'am," the maid replies meekly. "Sorry, ma'am."

"And the adventurers have arrived," Mistress Jerse says, smiling at you. "Welcome to our home. Allow me to present my husband, Rodle Jerse."

Rodle Jerse beams at you all. He is a stoop-shouldered man, somewhat shorter than his wife, with hair both thinning and graying. Like his wife, he is dressed in expensive finery, but unlike her, he seems ill-at-ease in it. His face is pleasant, though, and his manner genuinely welcoming. He motions you into the party with a sweep of his arm. "Please, enjoy yourselves," he says.

Following his invitation, you step into the party proper. Several rooms on the first floor have had their doors propped open, creating one continuous space. Several guests are already present, arrayed in such finery as they can afford. You see no food (yet), but there is drink available--a very good sparkling wine, and an indifferent ale--being passed around by servants bearing trays.

The musicians are seated in a corner of one of the rooms, playing softly under the buzz of conversation. Nearby, a group of young people--two young women and three young men--talk and laugh among themselves.

Watching them is a pale, dark-haired youth, lounging against the (cold) fireplace. His expression is sullen as he watches the others, who are about his age. One of the young women, glancing around the room, happens to catch his eye. She frowns, tosses her head, and very deliberately turns back to her companions.

Lorth
Friday June 22nd, 2007 9:21:35 AM

Thinking the young man leaning against fireplace must be the Jerse's son, Lorth takes notice that other person's his age seem to be angry with him.

Lorth spends some time moving about the room, making idle chat to whoever seems receptive.

Harvest
Friday June 22nd, 2007 9:54:04 AM

It is not difficult to recognize the cruelty of youth. Why some are in youth are popular and attractive while others are shunned is an alchemy more mysterious than the deepest of necromancies.

The young people. They are not much older than Harvest herself.

"Hello, I am Harvest Moon," she approaches the pale dark-haired youth directly. "Congratulations on your success at school. You are Itzal Jerse?" she asks. "This is a very beautiful party." Harvest Moon smiles up from under the crest of brown hair that hangs over one eye. "We are the Swords of Light from Jarlwolf, and it is a very pleasant honor to be invited to your celebration."

Bralin
Friday June 22nd, 2007 2:20:30 PM

The sturdy dwarf moves carefully through the party. He avoids knocking over lamps on tables, or those less durable then he, as he walks up to the bar.

He samples the sparkling wine and the ale. He finds them both weak and without the flavor of a dwarven stout, so he mixes the two together. Finally a unique taste that is at least something closer to what he thinks a dwarven man would drink.

He stands by his fellow companions and watches the party with some degree of interest.

Malgant
Friday June 22nd, 2007 3:33:41 PM

Malgant enters the house and is delighted to see the transformation. There is now enough room that though he still needs be careful, he can relax just a bit. Zeroing in on the wine he gets a glass from a passing waiter and follows Harvest as she greets what seems to be the guest of honor. Hoping that the lad who is the purpose of the party will lighten his mood once he is recognized and admired Malgant follows Harvest over to meet the boy as well. " Have you found the guest of Honor, Harvest? I would like to introduce myself. My name is Malgant, priest of Domi and aspirant to the role of Protector. I wouls also like to thank you for the invitation to this gathering. You must be quite proud to have done so well in your studies and I offer you congratulations. As my travels have just brought me to this area recently, could you describe your school and its location to me so that I may better understand where it is? "

Davros
Friday June 22nd, 2007 4:30:00 PM

Davros helps himself to a glass of wine as he meanders about the rooms, observing and taking it all in. Seeing Harvest and Malgant talking to a young man, Davros approaches to see if it is Itzal, and to introduce himself.

"Greetings, my name is Davros Sapphiredge, a fellow student of the arcane arts."

Any
Friday June 22nd, 2007 4:36:18 PM

Any follows along to greet what appears to be the focus of this party. He introduces himself, and then steps back to observe what transpires.

He does not take any wine or ale, but asks for a glass of cold water if possible.

(OOC:Sorry for being away for awhile everyone, stupid storms here the last couple days.)

Florin looks around as he enters and meets with the lady of the house and her husband. He nods in greetings to both and speaks up, "It is a honor to be here."

Florin knows Ivy was busy but wonders if she might of came to this or was invited. If he had thought he could of asked if he could invite someone.

With this thought he walks about, talking if spoken to but ends up near the bar and smiles as he watches Bralin, "I'll have to remember at my wedding to have the right refreshments." Florin smiles more and takes a glass of wine also, sipping it.

Arminas
Sunday June 24th, 2007 4:41:05 AM

Walking carefully about, so as to not upset the furnishings or bump into others, Arminas makes his way to a corner. The air has begun to get stuffy, as least to Arminas. He gives a weak smile, and stands quietly with his back to the wall nearest the door. Instinctively, Arminas rubs his shoulder and realizes his bow and quiver are absent.

When will this end? Even Parnoth's spawn had the courtesy to knock me out.

Some of the party think they spot the guest of honor lounging against the fireplace.

"Yes, I am Itzal Jerse," he replies to Harvest. "I'm glad you like the party, but then, my parents can afford to throw a good bash."

"Yes, I'm glad those dull teachers have finally recognized my talents," he tells Maglant. "The school is in Rowena. There are better schools, of course, in Plateau City and other places, but Mother says it would be too dangerous to travel there. Of course, once I learn to Teleport, I can finish my studies someplace better."

"Hello, Davros," says Itzal in response to your introduction. "Where do you study? I don't remember seeing you in Rowena."

Bralin raises a few eyebrows with his unorthodox concoction, but nobody says anything to him.

Lorth chats here and there to various partygoers. "You're one of the Swords, aren't you?" one woman asks him. "Those heroes who saved the children?"

Arminas suffers in silence. A well-dressed young man comes over to lounge near him. "Crashing bore, these things, aren't they?" he says sympathetically.

Florin is just wondering whether Ivy was invited when he looks up to see her enter, in the midst of a laughing, chattering group of young people. She is wearing a new dress of dark red silk, which goes very well with her fair skin and snapping dark eyes. Her dark hair is braided and twisted into intricate loops. She looks amazing.

Harvest  d20+2=21
Sunday June 24th, 2007 10:41:29 PM

"Congratulations once again, Itzal Jerse." Harvest Moon continues to smile. (Bluff 21) It is a good smile that shows little to none of her disappointment. In the boy, in the boy's family, in the Formal Party. She inclines her head, a gesture of parting. Only after she turns away, and her countenance is no longer observable by the boy, does she release a sad sigh.

"Oh look, Anthos." There are some things, though, thank the gods, that brighten the mood. "Is Paladin Florin's Ivy not beautiful tonight?" With a self conscious hand, she brushes a the crest of hair from her face. "Do you think ... " she asks, " ... do you think that *I* should grow my hair longer as well?"

Arminas
Monday June 25th, 2007 4:50:07 AM

Arminas breaths deeply, but the sour smell of too many people permeates his nostrils. Though they wear fine clothes, it seems some have not mastered the ability to mask their scent.

They could never survive, the game would smell them miles away.

It seems like the young magician is getting some attention from the swords, and young Ivy seems to be getting the rest. Purposefully, Arminas approaches the woman of the home and thanks her for the invitation.

"I must go and check on something outside, I will be back soon."

Arminas says, not meaning to come back at all. He walks outside and takes a deep breath. He glances toward the tree, making sure the equipment is safe.

Lorth
Monday June 25th, 2007 7:38:35 AM

"I wouldn't call us heros.", he replies to the woman, "But we did have a hand in saving the children." Lorth winces a bit as he is reminded that they didn't save all the children.
He then politely excuses himself and tries to find something small to nibble on.

With these platitudes, Any also turns away from their host, and follows Harvest.

"Yes, Ivy is beautiful tonight, but no more so than you are. Your hair makes a difference only to those who do not know you, but if you wished to grow it longer, I'm sure it would be beautiful as well that way."

He mingles, but Arminas' escape does not go unnoticed, and Any smiles to himself.

Bralin hesitates mingling, but also does not want to appear rude, so he says a greetings to the young man the others spoke with and shakes his hands in congratulations.

He watches Arminas leve and thinks to follow, but after a couple of his unorthodox concoctions, the flavor has grown on him, so he decides instead to get another.
He offers some to the rest of his friends to try as well, if they are interested.

Malgant
Monday June 25th, 2007 4:41:55 PM

The curious Minotaur has found what seems to be a willing ear, and he pushes on with the conversation. " What do they teach you in a Mage school Master Jerse? I mean obviously they teach you spell casting, but what other topics do you learn there?" He waits for the response with an open look of curiosity on his face.

Florin Jadenth
Monday June 25th, 2007 7:18:31 PM

Florin chuckles some at Bralin's offer and shakes his head no, "No thanks Bralin, I wish to keep my senses sharp just incase and I think your constitution is alot better then mine."

Florin will finally make his way to meet the child of this family. Waiting patiently and politely for Malgant to speak and get his answers before Florin speaks to the boy, "Hello. I would guess that your the one this party is being thrown for, Itzal? It is a honor to meet you, we've been hearing alot of you." Florin holds out his hand before speaking more, "My name is Florin Jadenth of house Jadenth in the Floating City, a paladin of Domi, servant and protector of his word."

Florin spotting Ivy after speaking to Itzal, moves to greet her, smiling and happy to see her out. He stops near her and bow deeply, holding back a chuckle as he speaks to her, mainly trying to act galantly, "Well, it is a honor to see such a beautiful lady at this party. I hope I'm not being to bold to ask for a dance." Florin smiles to Ivy and holds out his hand, speaking mainly to her now, "I'm sorry for not asking you to come here like a date Ivy, I to be honest figured your parents would have you knee deep in wedding plans yet."

Davros
Monday June 25th, 2007 10:22:52 PM

"Rowena? No Itzal, I had private tutors. My "school" was the residence of a very powerful wizard. The place resembled a small keep more than a house, with several towers and wall enclosed dwellings. The wizard scoured the land for apprentices and among others, he found me."

"Do you feel that you will be able to teleport soon? It is a complicated spell. I suspect it will be some time yet before i am able to master that one."

"Bralin, I believe I will stick with the wine." Davros takes an experimental whiff of his concoction. "It is probably safer that way."

DM Kathy
Tuesday June 26th, 2007 12:04:35 AM

Arminas sticks it out for all of ten minutes before making good his escape. It is cool outdoors, and smells of farmland. And horse-droppings, from the pens. Still, the air is fresher here than indoors. Your gear is exactly as you left it.

Harvest and Any disengage from the guest of honor to share a few moments' private conversation. You are interrupted by Mistress Jerse, who leads pinch-faced old man your way. "Here are two of them," she says to him, gesturing to Harvest and Any. "Adventurers. Heroes, really, you know, the ones who saved those children. Master Dreafut Skea, may I present Harvest Moon and Anthos Westar."

Master Skea blinks at you both through gold-rimmed spectacles. "Adventurers. Bah!" he says. "Why, they're naught but scrawny youngsters! In my day, we knew what adventurers were!"

"I'll be able to teleport one day," Itzal tells Davros. "It's not as hard as people make it out to be. A...um...a friend of mine says I can do it easy. I just have to learn a little more first."

"We learn history," he tells Maglant with a scowl. "It's boring. I don't see why we have to learn it. Who cares what a bunch of dead wizards did a thousand years ago? Excuse me." With that, he leaves and walks over to where Florin is speaking to Ivy.

"Hello, Ivy," he says. "Thank you for coming to my party." He smiles when he says it, which doesn't improve his looks that much.

"Itzal," Ivy says, sidling a little closer to Florin.

Lorth

The dwarf is disappointed in his friends lack of curiosity in his new drink. He wonders to himself, Where is their sense of adventure?
He takes his drink and walks around the public areas of the house, looking at paintings and sculptures, he longs for some dwarven companionship at this time. While looking at a vase on a stand he mumbles to himself, "If there were six more dwarves here, we could show these humans how to party."

Malgant
Tuesday June 26th, 2007 5:22:26 PM

" History, Hmmm. Well we study history to learn..." Malgant looks up and sees that Itzal has walked away already, over towards Ivyand Florin. Something about the way that ivy stands closer to Florin unsettles Malgant, so he continues talking, louder as he walks after Itzal. " History, Teaches us the sucesses and failures of the past. I suspect that they have you learn who did what and what happened next so that you can emulate the good they did and avoid the bad."

Harvest (Lyle Sub)
Tuesday June 26th, 2007 6:23:24 PM

"Truly Malgant, we have much that we can learn from those that have gone before us."

Her thoughts go back to her old master,

Little Boo, you must learn the lessons that history has to teach. elsewise you will be doomed to repeat them.

"Anthos, do you think you will play soon? I find that I am not enjoying this party quite as much as I thought I might, although I do like the music and beautiful clothes that everyone is wearing. It just seems so much like playacting."

Arminas (Lyle sub)
Tuesday June 26th, 2007 6:26:53 PM

Finally free of the stifling room, Arminas breathes deeply. The equipment is fine, and he takes his bow, quiver, and robe, placing them back in their familiar place upon his shoulder.

I can enjoy and watch the party mutch better from out here.

With that thought, he climbs one of the nearby trees, and blends into the shadows, watching the people come and go, and breathing the free air of the leaves.

Any moves closer to Harvest to enable them both to hear better, without talking too loudly.

"I do not know when I will play. We shall just have to endure untill then."

This last is said with a grin on his face.

"It is true that the ways of society are much like a play. Each person has his part, and we sometimes play many roles. I just keep wondering who the villain in our little melodrama is going to turn out to be."

He moves with her about the room. meeting different people, and exchanging pleasantries that often extend no farther than the door.

Florin looks to Itzal and then to Ivy abit before moving closer to her and placing a arm around her gently, "Seems you know my bride to be Sir Itzal."

Florin looks to Ivy and speaks to her gently before nodding to Itzal respectfully, "Ivy, would you like to dance? Or some fresh air maybe? You look like you could use abit of fresh air. It is abit warm in here with all the people and all." Florin is wearing his armor but is qutie use to being in it and the warmth, however he is trying to be a gentleman and nicely work a way for Ivy to distance herself if she desires from Itzal.

Davros
Tuesday June 26th, 2007 10:56:29 PM

After realizing the conversation has moved away from him, Davros shrugs his shoulders and returns to the bar for another glass of wine. He lingers for a few minutes to see if any interesting conversations are taking place nearby.

Then he checks his pouch pocket on the inside of his cloak to see how Whiskers is doing and what the rat thinks of the party.

Arminas gathers his gear and climbs a tree, ready to wait out the party from a more comfortable position. The night is quiet, and chilly now that the sun has gone down.

Davros wanders away from the guest of honor, and listens for interesting bits of conversation. He isn't disappointed.

"...but don't you think it's odd?" a middle-aged woman is asking her friend. "I mean, his grades were never very good, and now all of a sudden...."

"Well, but to hear his parents talk," her friend replies. "The boy's nothing but unrealized potential, and his teachers never saw it--until now, that is."

"Yes," replies the first woman somewhat sharply. "And we all know what a beggar's tale that is! Why, the boy never attended to his studies, talked back to his teachers, refused to do the work. And now--all of a sudden!--top of the class. I tell you, it's odd."

The friend changes the subject, and eventually the two ladies move off.

When Florin speaks up, Ivy tucks her arm into his. "Yes, Itzal, I don't know if you heard," she says. "I'm engaged to marry Sir Florin." She smiles up at Florin. "He's a paladin."

"Oh," Itzal replies. "Oh. No, I hadn't heard. Paladin, eh?" He shrugs. "All right for some, I suppose." He slouches back to his original position near the fireplace, and lounges against the wall, scowling.

The musicians begin to play a livelier tune now, and several of the young people get up to dance. Among them is the girl who turned her back on Itzal when you first saw him. Suddenly, she trips and falls hard. Her friends move to help her to her feet.

Spot DC 10 Highlight to display spoiler: { You see that Itzal snickers when the girl goes down. }

Florin looks to Malgant before he walks away and speaks to him, "My parents demanded I study many things before becoming a paladin. I fear I did not learn all my lessons quite like they wanted and for that and at the time, I was a clumsy human, I was more of a embarassment to them then anything. Most of my known history revolves around Domi and the some churches of Domi as that was my true calling."

Florin doesn't notice what happen to the lady who fell as much as the others and for the moment it looks like Lorth is seeing to her and the others look alittle concerned. Florin looks to Ivy and speaks to her gently, "Maybe we should stay inside after all. A dance by chance."

Florin will try to get Ivy on the dance floor to dance and when he has the chance and a good look at the guest of honor here he decides to call on his ability of detect evil, wanting to gauge those about him.

I wonder if his new found magic had anything to do with her tripping?"

She turns to give a disapproving look at the boy, and decides to watch him for a while to see if she can learn ant more abou this.

Yes, some people do unfortunately take pleasure in the discomforture of others, and our guest of honor seems the type, if I may judge him that far from what I have seen. I would not be surprized if he had something to do with it, but it is hardly a crime, simply poor manners. Let us watch him all the same. We cannot leave yet anyway, perhaps we can prevent further such exhibitions if we are alert.

"Sorry Malgant, as anyone will tell you, I would be more than happy to share a discussion on various topics of my education. But for the moment I overheard some conversation at the bar. Not very flattering for Itzal. And something Itzal said has me worried. Something about a friend helping him with his magic. I have a bad feeling about this."

Thursday June 28th, 2007 12:40:10 AM

The girl accepts Lorth's help. "I-I'm fine. I think," she says. She clings to the proffered arm more than is strictly necessary--but after all, how often does a girl get rescued by a handsome paladin? She thanks him with a smile, and takes the offered seat on the couch.

Maglant heads to the bar to drink some sparkling wine. Just as he arrives, trays of dainty nibbles begin to circulate.

Ivy gladly accept's Florin's invitation to dance. She is very light on her feet, and the activity puts roses in her cheeks and makes her eyes sparkle.

Despite the distraction offered by his partner, Florin attempts to detect evil. His senses register the presence of evil, but before he can concentrate and get a location, it is gone.

Harvest is supicious of Itzal, and shares her misgivings with Any. The boy is certainly ill-mannered, but did he cause the girl to trip? The two of them watch the young mage for a while. He continues to sulk by the fireplace. Every now and then, he looks up and scowls at somebody.

Before too long, though, his mother comes and speaks to him in a low, urgent voice. Whatever she says makes him scowl more, but he follows her as she leads him around with a big smile on her face, introducing him to various people at the party.

Davros shares some of what he has overheard.

"I don't like him." The dwarf says about the guest of honor. There is nothing wrong with practical jokes, or pranks, if your a halfling or pixie, but at a formal party, to embarrass someone, that's very boorish behavior. Bralin contemplates the consequences of walking up to the young man and punching him in the face. He quickly decides not to, knowing he may well get another chance in the future. He makes sure to stay near his friends during the rest of the party though. One never knows when someone is needed to watch your back.

When the tray of appetizers comes near she tries a couple, and is pleasantly surprised. She quietly takes a napkin, and gathers a few more, that once wrapped, go into a pocket for later. Perhaps if she shows these to Hildy, she would make some of them from time to time.

She beams with the thought, and with another, as she sees Anthos standing by her side. He seems so at home in this situation. How different his life must have been than it is now. Perhaps she needs to ask more of him, to hear some of that story, and about his life. Of course, he might expect the same of her, and her story doesn't seem that intersting.

I'll get you something to drink also if your thirsty." Florin is quite charmed by Ivy and is very happy to be with her but also tries to keep his mind on matters that could place her, his friends and quests here in danger. With this said Florin quickly moves to Harvest, Any and hopes to get Bralin and such in the coversation too as he speaks low enough to them to hopefully not be heard by anyone else, "I figure you all are anyway but I believe there is something evil here some place. I sensed it for a moment but then it vanished before I could pin point it further."

Outside, Arminas senses Ewan's sleepy presence nearby. The eagle is not a nocturnal creature, but she is attempting to stay awake for his sake.

"I am Emala Tearth," the young woman replies with a smile for Lorth. She has blue eyes and a creamy pale complexion. Her red-gold hair is caught back from her face in a silvery net. "Yes, a glass of wine would be most welcome. Thank you."

Bralin contemplates socking the guest of honor, then reluctantly decides it would be impolite. Since he is near the bar, he begins to notice some increased scurrying about by the servants, combined with delicious smells wafting from the kitchen. Perhaps supper will soon be ready.

Harvest samples some of the appetizers. There is some sort of meat paste smeared on tiny pieces of toast, with little slices of pepper on top. There are dainty puffs, filled with another kind of paste tasting of seafood. And there are complicated ones with tiny bites of fruit skewered on a thin sliver of wood.

Any remains ready to play, and keeps an eye on Itzal. The boy is still making the rounds with his mother, sullenly shaking hands with one guest after another.

Florin finishes his dance with Ivy, and begins concentrating more on trying to detect the evil he sensed earlier. He walks about the party without sensing anything, then suddenly, he feels the distinctive tingle again. He concentrates for a moment, and realizes it is coming from above him. The second floor?

Before he can do anything more than wonder about it, though, the tingle vanishes again.

"I hope it is to your liking.", he says.
Lorth stays there as long as the girl seems like chatting, if she decides or hints that she wants to return to the party or her friends, then he wanders off looking for more people to chat up.

Emala accepts a glass of red wine from Lorth. "Thank you. I don't know what made me fall like that; I'm not usually so clumsy." She smiles. "You're one of the heroes, aren't you? The ones who found Remo Treadlefoot and saved those children?" She seems quite happy to continue talking to Lorth and hearing all about his adventures.

Encouraged by his earlier attempts at improvisation, Bralin puts together an entree out of appetizers. The servers glance uneasily at one another, but don't seem prepared to handle a guest with dwarven appetites.

Davros, too, is enjoying the appetizers, and manages to slip a few to Whiskers.

About an hour after you arrive, your host and hostess stand near the back of the house and call for your attention. "Would you care to follow us to supper?" Mistress Jerse asks grandly.

At his cue, one of the servants flings open the back door. Beyond it, you can see more of the colored balls of light illuminating the back. A few of the guests break into applause.

The Jerses walk out, arm-in-arm. All around you, gentlemen are offering their arms to the ladies to escort them out to supper. You do not see any ladies making their way out there alone. A few gentlemen have a lady on each arm.

Emala smiles expectantly at Lorth, and Florin turns to find Ivy standing at his elbow.

Harvest Moon
Sunday July 1st, 2007 11:59:34 PM

The overly coincidental fall and the young Jerse's look of satisfaction serve to cement the impression that Harvest Moon had acquired from having spoken with the boy. The party is a wonder. She is conscious of the weight of the delicious snacks within her pocket. Harvest Moon claps her hands together politely with the other guests. It is a very fine party.

And still, a shallow and mean spirited boy is still a shallow and mean spirited boy. No matter that his parents can provide for him such an event of beauty and joy.

"I am disturbed, Anthos," she says, linking her arm unselfconsciously with the bard, one couple amongst many, "there are many small evils that occur in the Wold every day. One such evil might be a betrayal of hospitality. Would righting one small evil through the commision of another not result in one great larger evil?" she asks. "In the workings of mathematics, this seems to be an incorrect conclusion. But, here, at this party, I cannot help but think that mathematics holds no sway."

"I do not know what to do, Anthos." A pout of anger folds her face as she speaks, and the depth of her feelings travels through her grip upon his arm. "Yet, I feel at the same time, that something must be done to guide this Itzal Jerse to proper ways."

A smile. The warmth of her hand on his arm. And yet, the reason they really came here to begin with.

"Evil comes in many shapes and sizes, and the size does not always predict the influence it will have in our lives. Sometimes we use a minor evil to combat a greater one--killing to prevent more death for instance, but to be a judge for when that should always be done, that is the trick. My Lady, you have the skill, or intuition, that enables you to see these things better than many I have met. Trust your judgement, and if we must smooth things over afterwards--so be it."

Again the smile, and he seats her next to him.

Seeing the large Malgant seeking a seat that will hold him, Any helps by indicating a nearby round of a log, and helps the minotaur roll it into a position suitable for dining.

Florin offers his arm to Ivy and smiles to her as he speaks to her, trying to cover for his earlier distraction, "Sorry about that Ivy, The party here has me thinking of our wedding and if it will be something like this or not." Florin shrugs and smiles to her, hoping his cover story is good enough as he doesn't want to alarm her that he senses some evil in the place.

Florin tries to figure out how to tell the others so hopes to find a place near to one of his friends, preferably Any or Davros for the time being and tells them of the evil he sensed upstair of the house.

A idea springs to Florin and he since he had called Ajax before coming to the party he uses his link to Ajax, telling him to get to Arminas and try to deliver the message of evil being sensed upstairs of the house. He hopes that Arminas might have a speak with animals or something so he can find out about this.

Any and Harvest go out to supper arm-in-arm. Lorth gallantly offers to escort Emala, who accepts with enthusiasm. Davros and Bralin make their way outdoors alone, but Maglant finds himself escorting a very old, very opinionated dowager as she makes her painstaking way out to supper.

When you get outdoors, you see that the guests are streaming toward a huge pavilion that has been set up in the back yard. More colored balls hover inside it, and there are braziers here and there to chase away the autumn chill. Long tables are lined up under the tent, along with what appears to be every chair in the county.

The Swords find themselves ushered to the main table, to a position near the middle. The chairs placed there will in no way bear Maglant's frame, and Mistress Jerse immediately begins scolding the servants about it.

"Honestly, what were you thinking? A hero of Sir Maglant's---er---stature can't be expected to--well, that is--oh! Fetch a stool, will you, and stop gawking in that stupid manner!" The scolding tone vanishes from her voice as she speaks to you. "I am so sorry for the trouble," she says smoothly. "So hard to get decent help out here in the provinces, but I'm sure you've experienced that. All right now?" she concludes as the offending chair is removed and a very solid stool set in its place.

Her guests seen to, Mistress Jerse returns to the head of the table to join her husband and son, both of whom look considerably more cheerful at the prospect of food.

Davros, watching Itzal, sees him turn his head a little. It almost seems as if he is speaking to somebody, but there is nobody there. He shakes his head slightly, then returns his attention to his meal.

Arminas can watch the procession out to the pavilion from his place in the tree, but the actual tables are out of his view beneath the canvas. He shares his trail rations with Ewan--or at least offers to. The eagle scorns his offering with an irritated screech, conveying with perfect clarity that she will hunt her own food, thank you very much, with no need for that odd dead stuff her friend inexplicably eats.

Florin, pondering the logistics of weddings and evil, is left standing next to his fiancee, trying to get a message to his horse. The house is emptying rapidly. Ivy clears her throat a little.

Outside at supper, servants begin bringing platter after platter of hearty roasted meats and vegetables. Others bring loaves of fresh-baked bread, and still others begin pouring out wine and ale. Even with the large number of servants, it takes a long time for everyone to get served.

Bralin waits for Malgant to get his stool, and then sits down opposite the minotaur. Having thus ensured that an ally is watching his back, the dwarf commences on his food.

He is not quite as thorough as he is at the inn, however. Bralin pauses many times between forkfulls of foods to scan the area, and check if any changes to the tactical situation have occurred.

He still manages to eat quite a bit, nonetheless.

Lorth pulls out and offers a seat to Emala then sits beside her.
He is sure to be on his best mannners, waiting until everyone is served each course before starting to eat.
After a few courses into dinner and being sure not to interrupt any of the hosts if they are speaking, he says, "Emala, may I ask where you are from? I grew up in Jarlswolf myself."

Florin smiles and looks to Ivy after doing his best to send his message to Ajax, who hopefully will get Arnumas's attention, "Sorry about that Ivy. I just have this funny feeling is all. Guess it is one of those paladin things."

With this said Florin leads Ivy into the room and takes a seat near the other swords. He sitting next to Bralin and eats slowly as he ponders things. Before long he leans over and whispers to Bralin, "Bralin, upstairs of this place is a strong sense of evil that comes and goes." Florin looks to Bralin and then continues eating, letting the leader of the group think over this before he looks towards Mistress Jerse, "Madam Jerse, may I be bold enough to offer a toast to your son?"

If Mistress Jerse allows then Florin will stand, wanting a better look at mainly Mistress Jerse's son, "Here is to Itzal. May he have a good life and find what he seeks. An the gods and powers upstairs keep a watch over him." Florin tries not to be caught watching but also wonders if this last part of his toast will spring some type of reaction.

Malgant is very grateful that they have gotten something more sturdy for him to sit on. Being this close to the floor is awkward, but not entirely uncomfortable. Malgant tries to watch the more well mannered of the group, so that he is using the right fork and not violating too many of the social codes of the company. He keeps getting distracted from this by Bralin. The sturdy dwarf keeps scanning the scene looking for trouble. It dawns on him that Bralin probably sat facing Malgant for a reason, and then it hits him, the dwarf wanted to be sure his back was watched, and he is watching Malgant's even as course after course of food goes into his belly. Tasked to watch the dwarf's back Malgant keeps a sharp eye on wht goes on behind the dwarf and in his immediate field of vision. sadly he sees little due to being distracted watching his manners.

Florin offers his arm to Ivy and belatedly joins the others at supper. "You seem distracted," she says to him. "Is there something wrong?"

At supper, Harvest takes a look around for anything invisible. It is very crowded in the tent, and there are many servants moving about. It's kind of a challenge to spot all of the visible things under the canvas roof, let alone invisible ones. Harvest doesn't see anything, but realizes that is far from conclusive.

Bralin and Maglant apply themselves steadfastly to their meals, and watch each other's back. The circulating servants manage (barely!) to keep their plates and cups full--or at least, keep them from being entirely empty.

Florin stands up to offer a toast. The Jerse parents look pleased and proud, turning beaming expressions from the paladin to their son. Itzal rolls his eyes at the last part of the toast, looking bored and superior as only a teenager can.

With some nudging from his wife, Rodle Jerse gets up to return the toast. "My wife and I--and our son, of course--would like to thank you all for coming," he says. "And an especial thanks to the Swords of Light for adding a--a heroic note to the festivities."

Then a prosperous-looking man stands to offer a toast to Itzal's success (slightly different from Florin's, which was to Itzal himself). In her turn, Mistress Jerse stands and offers a toast to "our kind neighbors." And the toasting continues for a while.

When the toasts have concluded, Mistress Jerse stands again. "We are honored this evening with the presence of Anthos Westar, winner of the recent bardic competition. Perhaps, with some persuasion, he will favor us with a song?"

Needing little prompting, the company breaks into applause.

Any
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 6:12:02 PM

Rising from his seat, Any gathers up his Lute from where he has placed it close to hand, and then addresses the gathering.

"My Lords and Ladies. I have chosen a ballad that I hope will honor both our hosts and their son. I hope you find it pleasing as well."

He then begins to play a light, fast moving tune, his fingers almost a blur on the strings.

"A COUNTRY life is sweet!
In moderate cold and heat,
To walk in the air, how pleasant and fair!
In every field of wheat,
The fairest of flowers adorning the bowers,
And every meadow's brow;
To that I say, no courtier may
Compare with they who clothe in grey,
And follow the useful plow.

They rise with the morning lark,
And labour till almost dark;
Then folding their sheep, they hasten to sleep;
While every pleasant park
Next morning is ringing with birds that are singing,
On each green, tender bough.
With what content, and merriment,
Their days are spent, whose minds are bent
To follow the useful plow.

The gallant that dresses fine,
And drinks his bottles of wine,
Were he to be tried, his feathers of pride,
Which deck and adorn his back,
Are tailors' and mercers', and other men dressers,
For which they do dun them now.
But Ralph and Will no compters fill
For tailor's bill, or garments still,
But follow the useful plow.

Their hundreds, without remorse,
Some spend to keep dogs and horse,
Who never would give, as long as they live,
Not two-pence to help the poor;
Their wives are neglected, and harlots respected;
This grieves the nation now;
But 'tis not so with us that go
Where pleasures flow, to reap and mow,
And follow the useful plow.

Now their son has gone and with gold,
And learned a new trade that is bold.
He has learned it well, and none can tell,
How far he can rise in the rank.
His power will grow, and none will o'erthrow,
As he seeks to become what he may.
But those that remain, consider them now,
they follow the useful plow."

Bowing, he seats himself again, and waits to see if another song will be requested from him.

As he sings, all must save, or be fascinated by his song, until it ends.

Anthos certainly does play well. If only he were a full elf, I'm sure he could do even better.

He considers shifting to another tree, so that he can see down into the party, but decides against it. Ewan is already settled here, and she is all the company he needs.

Bralin hears Any play, but pays little attention to the lyrics. Florin's revelation has the dwarf even more jumpy than he was before.

"Mayhap the youth is exploited by another," he responds to the paladin. He suddenly delivers an incantation, accompanied by the ever-so-correct movements of a spell. With Any playing, tis unlikely anyone outside his own group is even watching. And those that do see the dwarf are likely to understand what he does. Tis worth the risk.

Concentrating carefully, Bralin slowly turns in his seat, exploring his surroundings.

As Any begins to sing, his audience watches him, rapt [at least, I assume they do. What was the DC on that Will save?]. Rodle Jerse also seems rivited. Mistress Jerse pays polite attention, but doesn't seem ensnared. Itzal glances around the tent, clearly unaffected by the song. A puzzled frown creases his brow as he sees how everyone else is reacting. He mutters a few words and makes an arcane gesture. (Spellcraft DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {he casts Detect Magic})

Davros informs the others, via the Message spell, that he believes Itzal's "friend" to be present.

Bralin takes a chance that everyone else is distracted and casts a Detect Magic spell. With it, he can see the various auras on the magic items the party carries. The glowing, colored balls illuminating the pavilion show faint auras of evocation. You also see the moderate enchantment aura wrapped around Any as he finishes his song, and the faint web of conjuration that is the Message spell. Itzal has a faint aura of divination.

Suddenly Itzal leaps to his feet. "Magic!" he cries, pointing a finger at the Swords of Light. "They're casting spells and trying to ruin my party!"

His outburst causes a sensation among the guests. A few get up, as if attempting to flee. All begin looking around, trying to see the magic spells. Emala looks up at Lorth, concern on her face. "Is that true?" she asks fearfully.

I certainly have not cast or used any magics at this party. However I would use all under my command if I needed to protect you or anyone at this party.
Perhaps Itzal himself cast a spell to detect magics, this I find more likely, and he is alarmed because of the aura's he sees."

Lorth stays totally calm and gives Itzal a stern look saying, "Perhaps you are overacting just a bit? Accomplished Bard's always have some magic about them when they perform. No one is here is ruin your party."

"I am sorry, Paladin Lorth," Harvest Moon interrupts. Her face is pulled down into a disapproving pout that speaks to the seriousness of her intent. "That is not necessarily true in this case. I felt a compulsion from the music. It is not a thing that Anthos need affect upon his listeners."

"But, I cannot help but think that Anthos has done this for good reason."

"Itzal Jerse," she turns to the overly excited young mage, "you wish an interesting party? I believe such interest has also a desire to be at your party as well."

She turns from their young host to address the gathering in general.

"Good People," Harvest Moon begins, raising her hands, "please remain calm. This evening, we have sensed the possible presence of an invisible thing. We are not certain of its intent, but so far, I believe that it was responsible for the fall, earlier this evening of a young lady near the dance floor."

As her eye roves the crowd, so too does it always return to Itzal Jerse, gauging his reaction. (Sense Motive/Hunch 24)

"We are here for your protection. It is a thing that we take very seriously. But we require your cooperation to do this. I would ask that all of you remain calmly in your place while we pass among you and attempt to detect this thing. If you are seated, remain in your place. If you are not now seated, please, then, sit."

"If this thing is here now with us, then we will find it."

Again she looks at Itzal Jerse before turning to look out over the crowd for signs that might betray the presence of an invisible entity. (Spot 23)

We have no proof of anything foul going on here we have hunches and supposition. Casting spells and drawing attention to ourselves like this does just what Itzal said, disrupts the party. We could have passed it off, but now we are on a witch hunt. Domi help us."

"It is true that there was influence in my music this evening. I wanted to honor our young lord here, and have everyone feel the depth of that honor--nothing more. I did not compel anyone to do anything with my magic, and had no intent to do so. It was simply a way to increase the depth of feeling in the song.

As for this other, my friends and I have unfortunately perhaps been overly sensitive. We detected a presence within the gathering that we did not recognize. For those in our profession, the unknown can sometimes be dangerous, so we sought to discover what it was WITHOUT disrupting the party. If we have done so now, we apologize, and will leave if you require it--though we would prefer to stay if you allow."

I hope you believe that Ivy." Florin simply tells this to Ivy incase she looks like she believes the group might of been up to something, him included.

Florin turns his attention to Itzal's parents and speaks to them gently, "Sir and Madam Jerse, I understand your sons worry in many ways but also wish to say from one noble to another that I personally feel abit insulted by the out burst. We being quest or not I think the fact of what this group has done should stand to show we are not evil like I feel we are being labeled. I am also a paladin of Domi and would not stand for that. As a follower of Domi it is my oath to protect those who need it and to think I'm being blamed in part or in whole for such a thing is insulting to my honor and my code. All my abilities and all the others here at this table of the group I am with would never turn their powers to such means as to harm or disruspt good people's lives."

Florin looks to Itzal now and speaks bluntly, "I used one of my abilities yes. I sensed something upstairs of this house and was worried about the guests."

With this Florin pushes his chair in and turns to go, showing he is offended over what has happened and letting one of the Jerse speak up if they want to try and get him to stay.

DM Kathy
Friday July 6th, 2007 1:40:34 AM

At the commotion, Arminas comes down from his perch and peeks in the front door. He sees a few servants going about their tasks, and a handful of guests who, for whatever reason, have chosen not to go out to supper. All in all, it is a quiet scene.

In the pavilion, Bralin maintains the concentration on his spell and turns his attention toward the house. He sees at least one magic aura moving toward him.

Meanwhile, the other Swords speak in answer to Itzal's outburst.

Lorth tries to smooth over the magic as the natural effect of a bard's performance.

However, Harvest is too fundamentally honest for this face-saving falsehood, and launches into a longer explanation. She also mentions the possibility of an invisible entity among the group, which causes some consternation among the guests. Some begin looking about them for this invisible person, but others are clearly unimpressed by the idea. "Humbug!" one matronly-looking woman proclaims, and there are several who seem to agree with her.

Harvest watches Itzal's reaction. He seems startled at first, then angry. He glances behind him, but Harvest does not see anything there.

Any offers an apology for the magic he used, taking the opportunity to look about him. He sees a great deal. He sees a young gentleman untie his sister's hair ribbons when she isn't looking. He sees a very dignified-looking lady take a healthy pull from a flask she has half-concealed in her reticule. He sees that a field mouse has made its way into the pavilion and is happily gathering up crumbs. But he sees no sign of any invisible being.

Davros backs up Any's account, and attempts to turn the attention back to the guest of honor. Florin follows this up with a very effective piece of flattery.

Mistress Jerse rises. "Pray do not leave us so soon, Sir Florin," she says. "Itzal, my love, do not distress yourself. You see? They meant no harm." She smiles at her guests. "I can assure you, my friends, that there are no--" a lilting laugh "--invisible creatures here." Thus invited, the guests chuckle in response. "That being the case, I do hope everyone is ready for for the after-course." She signals to the servants, who begin bringing plates of cheese and fruit to the tables.

She turns to face the Swords, her hostess's smile firmly in place. "I know that such great heroes are accustomed to facing many perils, and to doing what they see fit to deal with those perils. But pray, put your minds at ease while you are our guests. There are no wicked foes here, only friendly folk celebrating a young man's success. There is no need for magicks that may frighten our guests, or upset our son. Do, please, enjoy yourselves." With that, she sits and begins nibbling a wedge of cheese. She does not take her eyes off of your group.

There is talking, but Bralin isn't paying attention.

The stone-faced dwarf is staring at a point in space between himself and the house.

Of long habit, his hand reaches out over the table and finds itself a roll, which he negligently crams into his mouth. Bralin chews without tasting, all the while looking at the house.
[Spellcraft 11, can't tell what school of magic. Should be able to tell strength and location, though. Most importantly, is it moving?]

Any

"No, good Lorth. My instrument is one made and given to me by our friend Florin. Although of excellent quality, it is not magical. The magic is in my intonation, intent, and training. I have to mean to evoke it for it to be in effect. I aplogize for doing so without permission. I only thought to add to the performance."

This last is said to the Mistress Jerse. He seats himself, and says through the spell.

Sorry for doing that without warning. I thought to distract everyone from other things going on. It was a silly thing to do, and needless as it turned out.

Any does not mention the words of power that a Bard uses to activate his skills.

Mayhap inside the house?"</i> Malgant is sure the dwarf see's something, mostly due to the fact that his breakneck ingestion of everything edible within arms reach has slowed to a virtual stop and his gaze is fixed and unwavering on a point that seems empty. Malgant calls to mind the defensive spels he has prayed for today and hopes he does not need them. He whispers quietly to Bralin as he hands the groping dwarf another roll, " What do you see Bralin?"

Bralin sees 10 magic auras, all Faint or Moderate, all clustered together as if associated with a single person or object. They had been moving toward him, but now they are stationary.

Maglant keeps an eye on Bralin, curious what the dwarf may be seeing.

Any apologizes to his hostess, and receives a gracious nod in response. Harvest, although still keen to find the invisible thing, agrees to stop looking for now. She still sees nothing that would indicate the presence of an invisible creature.

Arminas finds that there is no food being served inside the house at present, but he has no trouble finding a servant who can tell him what went on outside. "Some kind of to-do between the young master and those adventurers," the man says. "But the mistress has it sorted out now, sir, never you fear."

"Does this happen often?" Emala asks Lorth. She looks amused. "I think perhaps adventurers are better with fierce beasts than with the social niceties. Still, I thought your bard friend played very nicely."

"Is there going to be trouble?" Ivy murmurs calmly to Florin. "Should I maybe try to get people to go inside?"

Meanwhile, servants continue to serve the fruit and cheese. Other servants begin pouring out a rich, heady dessert wine. Another group of musicians come forward, bow to the Jerse family, and begin playing a sweet, gentle air.

Both Arminas and those of you outside have noticed a half-orc guest, although you have not yet spoken to him. He seems to favor his human side in his looks, and has clearly taken pains with his appearance this evening. A figure sits at a table with others and seems to do well with small talk. A smile and a laugh seem easy to him at this time as the surroundings does support an aura of relaxation.
He watches the group of adventurers with a curious eye as they make one commotion after another. No nobles party would be the same without something to talk about at the next one I suppose, he thinks to himself. He wonders why the group would care if there were invisible people running around. Most likely private guards watching for thieves and ne're-do-well's taking advantage of a pre-planned diversion in progress. It wasn't the guards fault the woman couldn't see one of them when she was accidently tripped.
Regardless, he is here for free food and drinks. The merchant didn't want to attend this party anyway, or so he over heard in the tavern, so it is doubtful he will miss the invitation that "slipped" from his coat pocket. But the merchant had said he didn't want to go because of the guest of honor, Itzal. Curious to see someone with business at heart not attending a noble's party for any reason, let alone a young man. He is one to be watched, certainly. Arrogant, obnoxious and a total flim flammer, absolutely. So why is he so different then many noble's sons? Desolute has all night to try and find that out.
Still, he keeps his eyes and ears open for any surprise.

if the message spell is still active: "My friends, I can cast a spell to reveal invisibility, but it will only work on myself. I also doubt if I could do so unobserved."

if message spell expired: Davros makes light conversation with the guests around him, trying to learn more about Itzal or the Jerse family.

Florin Jadenth
Monday July 9th, 2007 7:53:15 PM

Florin looks to Malgant for a moment and then Bralin before turning his attention back to Ivy and smiles gently to her, "I think things will be fine for the moment my darling. Let us try and enjoy ourselves for now." He touches her hand and squeezes it softly to hopefully comfort her and now sips alittle of the wine while watching and waiting to see what happens.

Florin does notice the half-orc and looks to him curiously but seeing as how he is sitting to far away at the moment he simply nods to the man politely and gives a smile.

Bralin puts out a chair in invitation of the mysterious being whose auras he sees. Nobody takes him up on the invitation, but by now he's fairly certain that the auras are inside the house. It's likely that the magical thing, whatever it is, can't see him.

Desolute plays the role of the idler, but keeps his eyes and ears open.

Any and Davros converse with those near them, while Lorth and Florin return their attention to their fascinating supper companions.

Soon, the guests begin trickling back into the house. The Jerses rise, and Rodle Jerse smiles at his guests. "In just a few moments," he says, "my lovely wife and I will open the dancing in the main house. And I have it on good authority," he adds with a wink, "that the musicians are prepared to play until dawn, if there are those willing to dance."

The young people in particular seem to welcome this news, and applaud enthusiastically.

"We have also set up a card-room," adds Mistress Jerse, "for those who don't care to dance. We invite you all to enjoy yourselves."

With that, they begin moving back into the main house. Many of their guests follow them, but quite a few remin behind, lingering over their wine and cheese.

In the main house, a servant smiles sypathetically at Arminas. "Supper is being served outside, sir, if you'd care to--oh." Arminas can see what stopped the servant: the guests are coming back inside. "I see that supper is over. Not to worry, sir, I'll find you a bit of something."

He moves off, returning a few minutes later with bread, cheese, and a few slices of cold roast meat. "Here you are sir," he says. "And the sweet-trays will begin within the hour."

A large parlor in the main house has now been closed off from the rest of the party. Several tables with green cloth covers have been set up about the room, and the servants are placing chairs brought in from the supper-tent. The rest of the main floor will be devoted to dancing. Yet another group of musicians is setting up now, in a decidedly awkward corner under the stairs, as servants move furniture and roll up rugs.

The guest of honor returns to his earlier spot near the fireplace, and gazes sulkily at the partygoers.

Malgant
Monday July 9th, 2007 11:28:46 PM

Malgant watches Bralin and is a bit disturbed when he pulls out the chair and offers whatever it is that he sees a seat. He picks up a couple of rolls and butters them and eats one himself and offers the other to Bralins hand if he is still searching for food. " Is it here ?" he asks quietly.

Lorth
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 7:15:43 AM

Lorth smiles at Emala, "May I escort you somewhere else? Perhaps back inside the house, I am not much of a dancer myself, but you seemed quiet accomplished."
Lorth will escort Emala wherever she wishes to go, keeping an eye on her, just in case she "trips" again.

"May I ask you, where you are from Emala? I myself grew up in Jarlswolf."

Bralin (detect magic)
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 8:02:34 AM

Bralin grimaces. "No", he answers Malgant. "Its inside the house."

Grabbing up the last roll offered by the taur, the black clad dwarf rips off a large bite.
"Come"

He rises, and heads for the house. Bralin will attempt to get near the source of the magic without annoying any guests.

Arminas flips a silver piece to the servant, and takes the bread, cheese and meat from him.

"Thanks, I'm afraid I wasn't presentable for the dinner party. I think I'll wait just outside the door. I don't want my weapons to cause a stir. If you hear of anything that might cause a concern please come outside and tell me of it. There will be another silver piece in it for you."

With that, Arminas steps outside the front door and finds a comfortable place to sit near the house. He glances to make sure that the others equipment is safe, and is reassured to see Ewan still in the tree.

Desolute
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 11:21:29 AM

Desolute finishes his plate and waits for the servers to remove it, before he stands and bows to the ladies with which he shared his company. His long brown hair tied off straight just below his neck is very full. His green eyes a contrast to his half orc heritage. He stands six feet even with slim shoulders. He appears to look older then his eighteen years would allow. Something about his demeanor tells one he has seen things that others should not, but he carries it well without arrogance or anger.
The ladies look upon him as attractive, but it is clear there are others here with more charisma then himself.
He walks toward separate group members at different times to introduce himself. He avoids the dwarf and the taur for the moment. Dwarves are not known to love his kind and disturbing his search may well garner that resentment, if he was not prone to have it before hand.
"Greetings, my name is Desolute. It is very nice to meet you. Is this not a lovely event? Strange, indeed, but still lovely. I hale from Plateau City and was heading back that way, eventually. Yet, I allow the gods to carry me on the wind as it would pollen to it's appointed flower."

I have a ruling from Jerry and he has stated.

Yes, that's fine as long as it is not penalizing the other players when one post more often...all the time.

Occasionally it is ok.

Thank you.

Harvest
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 11:41:00 AM

Harvest Moon's curious nose continues to follow her dwarven companion. There is a tangential awareness of one of the guests who appears out of place, a half-orc by the looks of him. But such thoughts are quickly pushed to the back rooms of the mind for examination at a later time.

"Anthos? Anthos? I believe Bralin Stoneminder has found something," she says. From a nearby table, her hand reaches for a left over treat before following her companion's lead ... back to the house by all appearances.

Malgant
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 5:25:55 PM

" Come" says Bralin, and prompted by years of priestly training Malgant sticks to the dwarf like glue, allowing the party to flow around them but not between them. He keeps aware of those around him, particularly those within arms reach. He also notices that one of the guests seems to be introducing himself to the other Swords one at a time, a rather large fellow too. Not an immediate concern, his training says, and he files the face away for future study. He follows Bralin into the house and calls to mind his own detect magic, just in case he should need it. He leaves the prayer unsaid, trusting to Bralin's eyes to warn him of peril from the magic source.

Laying a hand on Harvest's arm, Any says,

"Yes, I saw his attention centered on something also. Let's go in and mingle, perhaps even dance, and see what he has discovered."

When the large dinner guest approaches and introduces himself, Any responds in kind.

"My name is Anthos Westar, but most call me Any. I am a Bard of sorts, but have acquired through neccesity other talents as well. What brings you to these parts?"

He waits and listens to Desolutes response, while keeping an eye on Bralin and the others in the room.

Davros
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 10:28:02 PM

OOC- Welcome to the game Buzz!

Davros returns inside and makes his way through the crowd. He sees a half-orc making a strong effort to introduce himself to all the guests present, but that is a conversation which must wait. Davros accepts another glass of wine from a server and makes his way over to where Itzal is sitting and joins him.

"It's a lonely life isn't it? Most people don't understand the level of commitment necessary to become a wizard, It is hard work and there is little praise for it. Take this party for example. These people are here in your honor and yet has anyone asked you anything about magic? But there are ways to make up for this pain. You could do as I have done and travel. Meet new people who don't know your abilities. You could join with an adventuring company as I have also done and try to use your power to help the people of the Wold."

"But there is also a darker path to companionship isn't there? Your "friend" you mentioned is real isn't it? I don't need to ask Bralin to know he saw a magic aura do I? This is a dangerous path to take. Such creatures will never be your friend, they only pretend while they get what they want. You are not stuck with this creature if you do not wish to be. I can help you break from it, and I will put in a good word at your school if you would ask it of me."

DM Kathy
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 12:39:44 AM

Bralin moves inside the house, maintaining his concentration. Just as he moves into the house, the cluster of auras moves outside.

"I'm from Merrydale originally," Emala replies to Lorth. "Though I've been living with my aunt in Rowena for a few years. It's good coming back to see everybody." She hesitates, then continues, "I just wish this party was for anyone but Itzal. He's so---" she flings her hands out in expressive gesture. Apparantly, there isn't a word for what Itzal is "so".

Desolute takes a chance and introduces himself to some members of the party.

Davros takes a bigger chance and moves to speak with Itzal himself. The young man frowns as the wizard speaks.

"Adventuring! Ha!" he replies. "Chasing around after goblin treasure? I don't need that! My parents can afford to give me a proper education, one that will make me a powerful wizard.

"And whatever you may have guessed about my friend is completely wrong! He likes me. He understands my greatness--something those stupid teachers have never done. He'll help me become a great wizard." His eyes focus on where a group of young people are laughing and talking together. "And then we'll see," he adds, almost inaudibly.

Arminas moves outside, and finds that the party's animals and gear are right where they were before. The night has grown chilly. Ewan is nearly asleep.

Inside, the musicians begin a stately court-dance, and the Jerses open the dancing with all suitable dignitiy. They are soon joined by several more couples, although the younger set would clearly prefer something faster.

The last of the dessert wine is poured out and offered on trays.

Lorth
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 7:17:30 AM

Lorth continues to speak to Emala. "Have you known Itzal long? He seems a bit spoiled to me.", Lorth says half-jokingly. "But then, I guess his parents can afford it."
Lorth continues to watch around the room, but gives most of his attention to Emala.

Harvest  d20+14=24
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 10:49:26 AM

"Peace be with you. I am Harvest Moon."

Harvest turns her attention from the house and the investigation conducted by Bralin Stoneminder. Now presented with the newcomer, she peers with a curiosity divided between the half-orc and the house.

"You are a half-orc." She states the obvious. "I have not met a half-orc before. But I think that is perhaps the charm of these parties. That they bring so many things that we have not done before." Her own words come as though from afar. They sound inane, but distracted, as she is, she can do nothing to correct the words already spoken.

The sound of music drift from within the house. Again she scans the grounds for a person or thing, invisible. (Spot 24)

Desolute
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 2:51:19 PM

Desolute takes Harvest by her right hand and lightly kisses it, then with a bow, he touches her hand to his forehead. "Nock bla, efogh", he says quite eloquently in orcish. Erecting himself he explains, "It means the pleasure is mine, in not so many words." Orcs can be quite gruesome certainly. I thank the gods daily for my humanity, yet still, the aggressive side is there to use in necessity."

Looking over toward Bralin, Desolute asks the others, "Do you think the young lord is in danger of someone? The Jerses don't appear alarmed, have they hired you to investigate?"
Desolute, once finding it amusing, now has genuine concern for the situation. "Perhaps I should offer my services to the young lord?"

Harvest (2nd Post)
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 3:39:24 PM

Harvest Moon flushes pink to the tips of her ears. Her grip upon Anthos' arm tightens significantly.

"Thank you ... Desolute. Nough blea ephou to you as well." She looks again in the direction of the house.

"I am sorry if my pronunciation is not good." It is becoming more and more difficult to lend attention to the search for the Invisible One. "Do you, perchance, have a surname?" she asks.

Davros
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 6:46:40 PM

"The creature is evil Itzal. And listening to its' poisonous words is a mistake. That path will not lead you to become a powerful wizard. You will simply be the pawn of another. No real power at all."

"And don't be too quick to judge adventuring. There is much knowledge that comes with experience." Davros rises to his feet and makes to leave Itzal's presence. "Perhaps I will contact the wizard school in Rowena anyway. I'm sure they will be interested to know about your 'friend'."

Davros walks away and looks to see if anyone is serving the previously promised 'sweets'.

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 9:23:32 PM

Florin offers Ivy his arm and walks with her into the other room once more and looks to her before speaking, "You seem to know Itzal, can you tell me anything about him? You for instance didn't like him near you for instance." Florin stays close to Ivy as he talks with her and comments before she can speak, "I mean nothing by my question either Ivy, just there seems to be more here then I can lay my finger on really."

When Florin gets a couple moments after getting some info hopefully from Ivy, he will move over to Harvest, Any and the half-orc and speaks to them for a moment.

First turning his attention to the new person, "Hello, I seen you before but thought it would be rude to speak as loud as I would from across the table. My name is Florin Jadenth a noble from house Jadenth of the Floating City. A humble servant of Domi and defender of his word amd name." Florin holds out his hand to shake.

After this he turns his attention to Harvest and Any and speaks to them in a lower voice, "With the party moving so quickly I had trouble saying this before but there is a evil presence in this house. I felt it upstairs but it keeps vanishing. I would feel more at ease if we could some how get a look upstairs or even one of us or so could. I would bring this up to Bralin but he seems kind of disposed at the moment."

Bralin (detect magic)
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 9:25:01 PM

Bralin stops.

"It went outside," he comments thoughtfully.

Again, the dwarf takes a few moments to consider how to respond.
He turns, and follows the being back outside.

Malgant
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 10:49:04 PM

" I have your back Bralin, but do we have a plan should you catch up with it? If so can I know what it is so I am not standing here with just a glass of wine in my hand should it all go wrong?" Malgant says this with a smile, Knowing the dwarf can most likely take care of himself with this thing, but wanting to help nonetheless. As the tray of dessert wine passes Malgant picks up a glass for himself and for Bralin. Taking a sip he finds it terribly sweet and not at all to his liking. As the next tray passes he gets rid of the wine with that servant.

Arminas
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 11:19:13 PM

Arminas sits outside, enjoying the cool air. Suddenly, Bralin comes through the door.

"So, the house was too crowded for you as well. I went inside a moment ago, but found as the party entered that I would prefer to be outside. Would you like some bread and cheese?"

"Friend Desolute, there does appear to be more going on here than any one knows. In fact, one of our number is tracking...something right now. If you will excuse us, I would wish us to be a little closer to him if anythingwere to happen."

With that, Any moves off towards where Bralin is standing outside the door.

Desolute
Thursday July 12th, 2007 2:02:57 PM

Desolute, somewhat perplexed by the actions of the group bows in respect as they leave his presence. He is disappointed in not recieving answers to any of his questions, but on the brighter side, he didn't have to answer any himself either, and that tends to be more troublesome anyway. Desolute looks over toward Itzal and decides to make an introduction. He walks toward him in a graceful manner and when near, provides the young lord with a courtly bow. "Greetings Lord Itzal. May I commend you on both a fabulous party as well as your studies. I was wondering if there was anything I could do for you today M'lord." Desolute looks around at Itzal's guests before he continues, "It seems something is amiss here today and I find it curious why your guests are so concerned for your well being. They are hero's and all, but you would think they could take a day off, no?"

DM Kathy
Friday July 13th, 2007 2:10:12 AM

Bralin, after a moment's hesitation, steps outside to try to see the source of the magic auras. He turns toward them and finds them all centered on...Arminas, sitting at his ease, enjoying a plate of cold meat and cheese he has cadged from somebody.

Any, following closely on Bralin's heels, finds the dwarf looking at Arminas.

[OOC: I might be wrong about the number of auras, because some of Arminas's goodies may have been in extradimensional storage and therefore not visible.]

"I've known him since we were children, off and on," Emala replies to Lorth. "Nobody likes him. At least, not that I know of. He's such an insufferable little show-off. And lately--" she shudders a little. "Lately there's something about him that seems...not right. And he watches us--the girls, I mean. Me and Ivy and a few of the others. I don't like it."

Ivy has similar information for Florin. "I've never liked him," she sighs. "Papa says we must try to be peacemakers, and get along with everyone, but it's hard with Itzal. He's always bragging and acting like he's better than everyone. And before--before we--that is, he used to chase after me, sort of. I'd try to get him to stop, but he wouldn't." She clasps Florin's arm in hers a little tighter. "I'm glad I'm with you now," she says.

Itzal scowls at Davros. "He isn't evil. It's just that certain people are too small-minded to understand."

Davros looks around, and sees the servants begin to circulate with trays of bite-sized desserts, temptingly arrayed. He is able to snag some kind of puffball filled with cream, and a tangy fruit thing dusted with sugar. Both are very tasty.

Florin takes the opportunity to tell the others of the evil presence he sensed earlier. He and Maglant begin discussing ways of investigating further.

Harvest and Desolute spend some time getting acquainted before Desolute moves to speak with the guest of honor.

"They're stupid," Itzal says, scowling after Davros. "And they're ruining my party. But never fear. They'll pay for what they've done tonight."

The sweets continue to circulate through the party, and the dance tunes become more lively. The dances are now dominated by the younger people, who laugh and call out to one another as they move through figure after figure. Itzal remains on the sidelines, scowling.

Lorth
Friday July 13th, 2007 7:55:57 AM

Lorth grins at Emala, "He is a bit odd, now that you mention it. If you have any new problems with Itzal, please let me know. I would not allow him to hurt or harass you or anyone if I could help it."
Lorth notices the servants serving pastries and asks, "Would you like some dessert Emala? I can't but help have one or two, they are my favorite part of dinner." Lorth flags down a server and takes two pastries for himself and one for Emala if she wants one.

(OOC: That last line, Itzal spoke about people paying for what they have done, was that to Davros? Or was that for everyone to hear?)

Bralin
Friday July 13th, 2007 8:00:53 AM

Bralin stops at the sight of Arminas, and nods his head, once.
"Ah," he comments thoughtfully.

Duration is only 3 minutes, I'm going to assume that's gone.

The dwarf looks about, noting that a great many of his companions are around.
"Other than ourselves and Itzal and those lights" - he indicates the pavilion with a nod of his head - "I have detected no magical auras in the area."

DM Kathy [supplemental]
Friday July 13th, 2007 9:20:10 AM

Itzal's last line was spoken to Desolute. Desolute heard it, but Itzal's voice wasn't that loud and there's a lot of background noise. Let's call it a DC 30 Listen check for anybody else to overhear.

Any
Friday July 13th, 2007 10:11:54 AM

"That being the case friends, let's go back inside, and try to enjoy the rest of the celebration."

Setting example to word, Any moves back inside and asks Harvest to dance, leading her through the sparse crowd of people already dancing.

Harvest
Friday July 13th, 2007 10:17:18 AM

"If you have felt the presence of evil upstairs, Paladin Florin Jandeth," Harvest Moon's tone drops to the discreet timbre of the elfish adherent of Domi, "then that is where we must go."

"I will go, Anthos." The words are a statement of purpose. Harvest enters the house and looks about for the stairs that must lead to the upper level, and makes a quiet ascent above.

Desolute
Friday July 13th, 2007 1:53:59 PM

Desolute smiles in understanding at the young lords words. "How dare they insult someone with as much potential as yourself. Well, I can see your not happy at this time, and my endeavor is to not put you out further then you are already. As it is, my offer still stands." Bin gives the lord a slight bow as he mingles amongst other guests. He notices the group gesturing upstairs and for the moment avoids them until they wish to speak with him. He's not one to follow strangers around blindly, even if they may be in danger. He asks a lady of his approximate age to dance and while they do so, he thinks on the present.[i]This is one of those times where you need to pick a side Desolute. Good vs. Evil. Right over wrong. Who is wrong though? Did that dwarf have to many ales and sparkling wine blends? Hmm, much to ponder, but what is important are that no innocents get hurt, regardless of what happens.{/i]

ooc: Desolute would likely have detected magic as well, on his hands and in a pouch.

Arminas
Friday July 13th, 2007 10:14:34 PM

Holding up his cheese and bread, Arminas says again:

"Would you like some?"

Then looking at Any and Bralin, he adds:

"Why are you looking for magic auras? You look like you were hunting something, were you looking for me?"

Florin Jadenth
Friday July 13th, 2007 10:41:59 PM

Florin listens to Ivy and thinks over things she says before replying, "Hmm, seems a young man to keep a eye on and he has from the looks gained some power beyond his wealth if you ask me." He kisses Ivy's hand gently before speaking again, "I need to speak to Harvest and Any a moment and will be back with a glass of wine for us." This is when he will deliver the message to Harvest about upstairs. (Sorry, thought I should make it look like Florin politely stepped away from Ivy instead of her being in on the conversation of Florin senseing evil. Might freighten her some.)

Florin nods at Harvest's reply and looks to Any, "I know I'm not the leader and have no place to give orders but will ask a request. Look out for Harvest and alert us if she doesn't return shortly. I'll get back to Ivy as to hopefully keep people from thinking we are on to something more then we are."

Florin moves back to Ivy and gently takes her arm in his after handing her a glass of wine and before speaking, "I noticed the trays being brought out, would you like something darling? Also I was wondering, how late were you planning to stay? I would like to escourt you home when you go. Not saying you can't take care of yourself but it would wound my honor as a gentleman, you to be and a paladin to not."

Any asks Harvest to dance, but she has decided to try to get a look upstairs.

This proves to be easier said than done. The main stairs are centrally located, with couples dancing back and forth in front of them, and the musicians still playing below them. Anyone climbing those stairs would have to do so in full view of at least a third of the party-goers.

Harvest looks around some more, eventually working her way back to the kitchens where the servants are coming and going. None of them quite dares to tell an invited guest that she isn't allowed back here, but they do their best to gently steer her back to the party. "Can I get you something, Mistress?" "Lost your way, Mistress?" "Can I help you, Mistress?"...and so on. She does see, however, that there are servants' stairs back there.

"Ooh, they do look good," Emala says to Lorth. "Maybe just one. The food's very good, isn't it?" She nibbles daintily at her pastry and gives Lorth a look from under lowered lashes. "Thank you for your offer. I will certainly tell you if Itzal says anything....untoward."

Outside, Arminas and Bralin briefly discuss magical auras. Bralin doesn't recall seeing any others.

Desolute asks a young lady to dance. After a moment's hesitation, she accepts. "I don't believe I've seen you about here before," she says as the dance begins. "Are you a friend of the heroes?"

"Something's going on, isn't it?" Ivy murmurs to Florin. "Why yes, I would love some dessert," she says more loudly. Then, low again, "I can leave or stay. Whatever you need. Just let me know. And be careful." She gives him a quick kiss with this last.

"I wish to see the rooms upstairs," replies Harvest Moon to the many helpful servants. Their well meaning attempts to deflect her are best, perhaps, met with calm honesty. For if the evil felt by Paladin Florin Jandeth represents danger, then they should be prepared to leave this place. And swiftly.

"It is not a thing of which I am certain, and it may yet turn to naught," she says to the gathering of servants. "Please do not be alarmed, but be vigilant. Go about your normal duties, but be prepared to leave this house quickly upon our orders. Can you do this?" she asks without explaining further.

"Do the stairs in the back lead to a place that will connect me with the main rooms above?" she asks. "If not, I will have to ascend the central stairs. I do not wish to disrupt the party, but I will if I must."

OoC: Either way, she goes up.

Bralin
Monday July 16th, 2007 10:58:06 AM

Bralin helps himself to the bread and cheese offered by Arminas. Between bites, he explains the situation to the ranger in a conversational tone.

"Harvest and Any are suspicious of the boy's intent, and whether he is alone. I had cast a spell detecting magical auras, and have erroneously tracked you for the last minute."

The black clad dwarf shrugs. "I have found nothing suspicious," he concludes, breaking off another hunk of bread and stuffing it into his mouth.

His duty complete, Bralin looks about for the ingrediants necessary for his impromptu cocktails and has himself a nice drink.

He smiles brightly to the young woman that questioned him, "I would like to think of myself as a friend to all that wish to help people. Alas, I am new in town, so I really do not know whom to trust yet, but if you call them hero's, they must be. Please tell me, what it was they did to deserve such honourable mention?"
Although his feet are untrained, Desolute can at least keep up with the less complicated dances.

Malgant
Monday July 16th, 2007 4:54:24 PM

" You were tracking Arminas?" The minotaur tries not to blurt and manages to stifle himself before saying this with any real volume. " All that suspense for naught. Hmph. Oooo they have pastries inside Bralin. Nothing like a sweet to top off a nice dinner I say. If you need me just get my attention, i'll keep an eye out for you." With this Malgant returns to the party. He watched the dancers and munches on pastries as he manages to pick a few off of the passing trays.

OOC sorry I missed a couple posts, was waiting to play off Bralin and then just totally missed fridays post, but I'm still here 8).

Davros
Monday July 16th, 2007 7:12:57 PM

Davros skips the dancing and makes his way over to Anthos.

"I see what Harvest is trying to do, but maybe we should wait and come back after the party? Embarrasing the Jerses won't help our good name and Itzal's "friend" isn't going anywhere. I believe he intends harm and I am curious what Itzal will try to do."

Florin looks to Ivy and thinks before whispering to her, "I think it is okay for the moment but I will let you know if things change hun." After this he speaks normally, "Ok, one min." He gives Ivy a quick kiss back before heading off and getting some dessert.

After getting a small plate he brings it back to Ivy and holds it out to her, smiling to her, "Here you go hun." Florin keeps a eye on the party guests too as he spends time with Ivy.

Arminas
Monday July 16th, 2007 10:52:01 PM

Arminas watches as his bread and cheese disappear into Bralin's mouth.

"It seems more likely you were hunting cheese, which you have found. I'll just wait out here, on guard, just in case."

The servants clearly don't know what do do about Harvest's request. They glance uneasily at one another, and exchange frantic whispers. "Mistress Jerse won't like--" one begins, and another one interrupts "but she's a guest!"

After a moment, a woman steps forward, and you recognize Lucarinda, Mistress Jerse's hard-working maidservant. "Certainly, Mistress Moon," she says, doing a creditable job of hiding her nervousness. "Allow me to show you the way." She gestures you toward the stairs, then follows.

"These are guest rooms," she says as you reach the second floor and start down a hallway. She has apparantly decided that "a tour of the house" is the best way to go. She gestures toward one door. "Master Itzal's tutor had this one until he went off to school--Master Itzal went, I mean, not the tutor. Master and Mistress have this suite.....and here is Master Itzal's room." She gladly opens any doors Harvest would like to see into. Harvest sees neatly-kept rooms with very standard-looking furniture; nothing stands out as unusual. The suite of rooms occupied by the elder Jerses is rather more opulent, with elaborate carving on the furniture, and numerous rugs and hangings. Lucarinda hesitates at Itzal's door, however.

"Master Itzal is very particular about his things," the maid says nervously. "I shouldn't like to upset him."

Any lingers below, anxious about Harvest. It is difficult to find an out-of-the-way spot in the kitchen, as it is all a-bustle with cooks and servants. He gets many of the same solicitous "can I help you?" questions that Harvest got a moment before. Davros, too, attempts to dissuade him from being too obvious.

Lorth and Desolute manage to dance with reasonable grace. It helps that they have such graceful partners. Emala dances with enthusiasm, and laughs a great deal. She also, Lorth notes, seems very interested in making sure that all of her friends see her dancing with the handsome paladin.

"And your name, sir?" Desolute's partner asks. She laughs a little. "My mother warned me never to talk to strangers."

Outside, Arminas bears the theft of his cheese philosophically, and says he will remain on guard. Bralin and Maglant return to the party, searching for, respectively, drink and pastries. Bralin finds that the rich, full-bodied wines and ports being served for after-dinner don't really lend themselves to being mixed. Maglant has better luck; the servants are now passing trays with little spellbooks, wands, and wizard hats, all made of marzipan.

Florin procures a tray of danties for Ivy, and stands eating them with her as they both watch the partygoers. Mistress Jerse has moved over to her sulking son, and is now shepherding him over to where a group of young people are taking a breather from the last dance. You cannot hear the conversation, but the awkward scene is clear enough without it. Mother prods son, who steps forward and sulkily asks one of the young women to dance. The girl glances helplessly back at her friends, then steels herself, nods, and pastes on a smile as Itzal leads her away. Mistress Jerse beams.

Desolute
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 2:56:59 AM

Desolute smiles at the young lady and responds, "How very rude of me. I beg your forgiveness, but I was so taken aback by your beauty, all I could think of, was to hold you in some way. I will admit the dance was convenient. My name is Desolute. I am from Plateau City."
Desolute twirls her, then brings her in close so he can whisper in her ear, "Your mother was part right, but talking to strangers never gets one in trouble, it's talking with strangers that can lead to problems. However, now that we are introduced, we may converse as freely as you desire on any subject that is most attractive to you. If conversation leads to your silken hair and perfect skin, that blushes pink when the proper chord is struck, all the better."
Desolute continues to enjoy himself at the party. There is no doubt that Itzal is either delusional or corrupt in some manner, all the better to gain his confidence, to possibly deflect his machinations, but that does not mean his parents should pay for his petty attitude, so the half orc guest decides he will just enjoy their hospitality tonight, unless something else should change his mind. Who knows, this fine woman in his arms just may well be available for breakfast, if he plays his cards right

Harvest  d20+14=27 d20+1=21
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 10:04:52 AM

"Thank you, Lucarinda," Harvest acknowledges the woman's help even as she is lead up the back stairs. "But you should know that helping in this way may lead you to danger," she adds.

In each doorway the small brown girl stands and inspects the room. (Spot 27 to detect the presence of the Hidden or Invisible.) Finally, they arrive at the door of the young mage.

"Please return back down the stairs to the kitchen, Lucarinda." Harvest takes a place before the closed door. "There may be magic wards upon this door that may wound those within the area. At the most simple, opening such a warded door may produce an alarm, and that may jeopardize your position within this household."

"If nothing is amiss, then I will be down shortly. If I do not return within a count of sixty, please tell my Anthos, the bard who performed this evening of where I have gone and that I am overlong."

Forming her hands before her into the symbol of Alemi, Harvest casts a simple cantrip of detection. Concentrating upon the closed door, she feels for signs of magic, sorting, parsing, and identifying the various auras. (Spellcraft 21/Nat 20 to identify the magic schools of any auras detected.)

Lorth
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 2:00:37 PM

"Emala you are a fine dancer, much more accomplished than myself, thank you for taking the time to dance with me.", Lorth says.

He continues to dance with Emala until she cares to take a break. He is sure to allow her to show him off if she so desires and if there is a break in dancing he introduces himself to her friends.

Arminas
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 5:17:25 PM

Arminas eats the little that is left of his supper and decides that politely offering a dwarf a snack is a bad idea. It is a good evening, not only has he escaped a stuffy party but he has learned a valuable lesson.

Bralin  d20+7=15
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 5:28:28 PM

After two very poor experiments, both of which end up poured onto a nearby plant, Bralin decides the wine goes best with the sweets. The dwarf confiscates a platter of desserts from one passing server, and a bottle of wine from another.

He finds a convenient wall, and shoves the nearest sittable object next to it. Plopping down 'pon his newfound perch, Bralin resumes the dietary carnage. Occasionally, he looks up to see if anything interesting is going on.

Any  d20+7=9
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 5:55:19 PM

In an effort to draw no more attention than necessary to Harvest, Any moves back out into the party proper. He mingles with the guests, telling minor jokes and puns, and trying to appear as at ease as is possible. His eyes do stray occasionally to the stairs, but overall, he does a passable job, or at least tries to do so (bluff 9!).

Davros
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 10:22:16 PM

Davros attempts not to draw any more attention to Harvest and returns to the party. He continues to avoid the dancing and instead concentrates on conversation. He will pick up any more tidbits he can from the guests concerning Itzal or his schooling. If none are forthcoming, he will entertain as many people as care to listen of some of the Swords of Light more recent exploits. He will leave out the gory parts and focus upon more interesting events. Hopefully he can hold the listeners attention longer than he has in the past.

Malgant
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 10:58:22 PM

Sweets in hand, Malgant stands out of the way and watches the party. He notes Itzal's dance, and the lead up to it and just shakes his head. some people are just meant to be wallflowers, thrusting them into the light is usually not for the best.

DM Kathy
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 12:14:24 AM

Outside the door to Itzal's room, Harvest casts a Detect Magic. She sees a faint Abjuration on the door. Inside the room somewhere is a moderate Evocation and a half-dozen faint auras of mixed schools.

"It is very nice to meet you, Desolute," his parter replies. "I am Oriana." She does, in fact, blush at his complements, but seems alarmed rather than intrigued. When the musicians reach the end of their piece, she thanks him for the dance and flees.

Emala gladly takes Lorth to meet her friends as they take a short break from dancing. They watch Itzal dance with his young partner. "Oh. He got Arla," Emala says sympathetically, watching them.

"Yes, poor thing," replies one of the young men with a smile for Emala. "You might suffer a similar fate unless you dance with me immediately." He winks at her, and she laughingly accepts. A few of the others form couples and follow their lead, but a few still remain with Lorth.

Bralin snags a plate of marzipan and a couple of glasses of wine (the bottles are not being circulated), then sits on the edge of a planter to watch the party. He can see Itzal dancing with his chosen partner, who does not seem to be having a good time. The young man is a passable dancer, but he seems to be getting too close and saying the wrong things.

Any attempts to be the life of the party, but his concern for Harvest makes his jokes fall flat. For once, Davros is actually more entertaining than the bard. His narrative of the group's adventures is quite popular with the older party-goers who don't care to dance.

Davros gets the impression that Itzal doesn't have a lot of friends. The older people at the party don't seem to know much about him at all, and his peers don't seem to like him very much.

The current dance ends. Itzal bows farewell to his partner and moves off in search of another. A few of the older guests begin taking their leave.

Outside, Arminas can see that the first guests are beginning to leave. It is nearing midnight, and the night is clear and chilly.

Lorth
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 7:46:24 AM

"It was nice to meet all of you.", Lorth says to Emala's friends as he takes his exit. He wanders over to the buffet table and tries to find something non-alcoholic to drink.
He then spies Bralin sitting off by himself and goes to join him, plopping himself down in a nearby chair. Lorth's eyes scan the room, "A good party", he says to Bralin, "Did you find enough to eat?"

Harvest
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 10:08:41 AM

"There is a ward upon this door," Harvest Moon says. "Go Lucarinda. Please. Go."

The small brown girl opens the door to Itzal Jerse's room.

Any  d20+12=23

Rather than continue to fail at being at ease, Any steps out front door for a breath of air, then moves non-chalantly back in, and positions himself at the bottom of the stairs near the orchestra. He brings his lute around to the front, and plays lightly along while the young people continue to dance.

His eyes still stray to the stairs on occasion, but the need to concentrate on his playing helps to distract him. He does keep an eye on Itzal, in case he decides to go to his room.

Arminas smiles and nods a good-bye to the guests as they leave.

Finally, this is almost over.

He wraps his cloak about him to offset the chill in the night air.

Bralin
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 2:02:37 PM

Bralin gives Lorth a friendly nod. He can't answer right away, as his mouth is full. With a heroic effort, the dwarf swallows the remainder, and belches contendly.

"Aye," comes the now unnecessary response.

After chasing down his latest snack with a glassful of wine, Bralin points out Itzal to the paladin.
"The boy is out of place," he remarks. "Should his power and resentment both grow unchecked...Mayhap we should return on the morrow and intervene."

Desolute  d20+3=17 d20+4=5

Well, it is clear he has little chance of getting more then free food and drink here tonight. He lounges quietly off in the corner to spot (spot) any ladies that may be interested in him. No need to scare off the entire party. Some ladies like to live on the edge of the wild. As he does so, he ponders the activity of the hero's. What brash contempt for noble graces. He really likes them. The dwarf is amazing and in himself a distraction for someone like Desolute. The Paladin, is well a Paladin. Desolute has yet to meet one of these rare and exotic creatures. More refined then some of the others, he is to be studied more. He attempts to listen in on them from time to time, less out of malicious intent and more for curiosity What do these hero's know that I don't? (Listen) Alas, with every opportunity, some chatter box and their friend start talking beside him ruining any chance he would have.
Well, I haven't been kicked out yet, so I will just stick around until I am.

The party begins to erode as the older people begin to leave. The "hero's" are not quite motivated to do so and one seems to be seeing people off. He's the diplomat and possibly the leader. Desolute goes through his mind what the roles of each may be. Hey wait, one just went in the kitchen. He sips on his brandy and giggles to himself.

Malgant
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 7:08:38 PM

having eaten his dessert Malgant is now on the lookout for something to ease the mindnumbing boredom of the party. Nothing is happening, o so it seems to the Minotaur. He goes over the night in his mind and smiles happily at his fortune to not have broken anything yet. His reminiscing is cut short as he counts the heads of the party members he can see and comes up not one short, but two. He knows where Arminas is, but where is Harvest? He moves over to Bralin's side and catches the end of his comment. Not wanting to upset them he simply asks the Question. " Where is Harvest? I don't see her at the party, and trust me, I have a decent view from up here."

Davros
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 9:52:47 PM

Pleased to have an interested audience, Davros continues with stories of the group's exploits until most of the listeners have left. He will then attempt to track down another helping of dessert and another glass of wine.

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 10:09:16 PM

Not knowing what else to talk about at the moment while waiting to see what happens with Harvest, he turns his attention to Ivy as a thought comes to mind, "I was thinking and forgot to tell you. I asked my friend Bralin to be best man at our wedding. I also sent word to the Floating City to have Jella sent here for the wedding. I hope to hear word on that sometime through the temple of Domi. I do not know if my parents will come or not. They are less then fond of me most of the time."

Florin watches Ivy and gently takes her hand in his before leaning in and whispering to her, "Just incase, if something happens I want you to get out of here as quick as you can. If you need and if he is still in the stable then take Ajax. Might sound funny but tell him that I said it was ok. He is smart and will understand."

Florin will hand the empty plate off to one of the servant walking through and speaks how the desserts were good before the servant goes.

Florin at the moment is glad his armor is on but wishes his sword wasn't with Ajax as he with the knowledge that there is evil in the house just feels naked without his weapon. He takes abit of comfort in the fact that a dagger rests in his boot.

DM Kathy
Thursday July 19th, 2007 12:26:09 AM

Harvest opens the door and looks inside (Lucarinda has already gone downstairs as instructed). The room is untidy, a stark contrast to the neatness of the rest of the rooms. Various articles of finery are strewn carelessly about. Apparantely, Itzal had trouble deciding what to wear tonight. The remaining magical auras are coming from a cluttered desk.

Lorth joins Bralin and they discuss the party briefly. Bralin is concerned about what Izal might become. Maglant joins them, wondering about Harvest.

Desolute spies a likely-looking lady in the card-room. She is past the first blush of youth, but not by much. She is not pretty in the traditional sense of the word, but has a confidence and intelligence about her that makes the most of her looks. She returns Desolute's glance with a bold wink before sauntering off in search of refreshments.

Davros continues to recount the group's exploits, and continues to entertain his listeners. Any's musical contributions are well-received, and the musicians are able to take a short break as he plays.

Ivy looks tense, but nods understanding to Florin's directions.

Suddenly, Itzal turns and races for the stairs. He charges right past Florin and Any, and everyone else downstairs can see him go. He rushes up the main stairs, muttering something under his breath.

Lorth
Thursday July 19th, 2007 7:28:20 AM

"While I think you are correct, I'm not sure we could do anything except talk to him, unless he actually carries out his threats. Perhaps it is the bluster of youth talking and he is harmless.", Lorth says to Bralin, "Furthermore we can't just go around forcing people to do things, because we think they might do something untoward in the future."
Lorth shrugs, it is not a situation he relishes being in, as he likes to see the world in black and white. There are to many shades of gray these days, he thinks.

After recieving her name, he takes her hand and as he looks her in the eys, kisses first her finger, then the back of her hand and lastly as he kisses her wrist, he places his right hand behind her arm. He begins to get to know her as Itzal starts for the stairs, Figures, just as I was about to get lucky also. Desolute, if he is any where near the stairs at the time, try's to trip the young lord using "Sleight of foot" as he appears to want to assist the recent graduate. "What is wrong my lord? How may I assist?" Since it was so spur of the moment, he had no time to anticipate his actions, so he will likely be thrown out if he was close enough to attempt such a daring display fumbling.

Malgant tends to agree with Lorth, poor manners and a general lack of caring about those around you is nothing illegal, however distasteful, and forcing their will on anyone is like an unwanted dictatorship, unwanted and easily rebelled against. Still no having recieved an answer about Harvest, and seeing Itzal literally RACE for the stairs the Minotaur can't help but see a connection. Muttering quietly to the others near him." She is poking about isn't she? It looks like she has been noticed, one way or another. Here we go..."

Arminas
Thursday July 19th, 2007 5:49:27 PM

"Good night sir and madam. Watch for the night prowlers on your way home, best to be safe."

Arminas is bored, and it seems mischief has crept into his mind.

"I'm sure you will be fine, hurry along though."

Bralin
Thursday July 19th, 2007 8:09:27 PM

Bralin considers the words of Lorth and Malgant, before shaking his head slowly.
"Twas not my intent to force the boy toward any course. His mother already has that course well in hand."

The dwarf pauses, wondering if the others will pick up on his attempt at humor.

"I thought to suggest to each that formal training, mayhap with the Star Mages, would be beneficial. The boy receives an education among those who would respect his abilities, while the mother would have another reason to flaunt her status."

The last few words definitely contained a grating tone of disapproval.

Then, Itzal bolts for the door. Bralin quickly scans the area, notes the absence of both Arminas and Harvest from the inside of the house, and nods.
"Aye," he answers Malgant sourly. "She is."

Davros
Thursday July 19th, 2007 10:16:29 PM

As Davros finishes his stories, he switches to light conversation with the lingering guests. Enjoying a pastry with some wine, Davros notices Itzal run up the stairs. Oh well, leave it to adventurers to ruin a party... Suspecting Harvest may have something to do with this, and familiar now with Itzal's temperament, Davros waits for the show to start.

Florin Jadenth
Thursday July 19th, 2007 11:07:01 PM

Florin doesn't like this and does his best to hold up Itzal as he tries to rush past, "Is something wrong?"

Florin looks to Ivy and whispers to her, "Remember what I said and just try and relax abit hun."

Florin moves to follow the young man now inless otherwise stopped, speaking to him and keeping his voice abit louder as he hopes to give Harvest a headsup on something is going on for one thing, "Please slow down, your going to hurt one of your guests. Now what is wrong, why the rush?"

Any
Thursday July 19th, 2007 11:52:52 PM

As Itzal rushes past, Any tries to bump into him to slow his progress.

"Is something wrong? Here, I will come with you."

Any says in a loud voice, also hoping to project his voice to Harvest.

Any then stays right on his heals as they ascend the stairs.

DM Kathy

Desolute's lady gives her name as Phaedra, and seems to enjoy his advances. Unfortunately, Itzal's exit puts a damper on the pleasant scene. Desolute tries to trip the young mage, but he is out of position and can't reach Itzal's path in time. [Itzal ran past Florin and Any, but you really didn't have an opportunity to trip him.]

Outside, Arminas begins messing with the party-goers as they leave. The older couple he "warns" looks at him with alarm, then exchange uncertain glances. "Wha--night prowlers?" asks the man. "What do you mean, friend?"

Seeing Itzal's hasty departure, Lorth, Maglant, Bralin, and Davros seem content to simply watch what happens next.

Florin attempts to intervene. "Someone has gone into my chamber!" Itzal says angrily, still rushing up the stairs. He darts a sudden glance at Florin, and at Any, who has also followed. "What do you two know about this?" he snarls. He does not stop moving when he asks his question.

Upstairs, Harvest can tell that the moderate Evocation aura comes from a large, leather-bound book sitting on the desk. The collection of faint auras emanates from one of the drawers.

She doesn't get a chance to see much more before she hears the sound of someone coming quickly up the stairs. Then she hears Itzal's voice, saying that there's someone in his room, and asking what "you two" know about it.

Harvest
Friday July 20th, 2007 7:57:37 AM

Nothing.

Nothing here was amiss.

Harvest Moon walks toward the voices and steps down into the stairwell, appearing above the others. The rooms below seemed to have cleared of the party. That was good.

"Nothing seems out of the ordinary," she announces. "And yet Paladin Florin Jadenth has detected an aura of evil here. I do not think we can leave until we have done a more thorough search."

From the stairs above, she looks down at the group, in the midst of which stands the young wizard. Her eyes take the young Jerse in for but a moment. Then they move on to find the two paladins. To each she nods, a tacit acknowledgment of their abilities to hunt down this evil with unerring certainty.

Lorth
Friday July 20th, 2007 8:02:06 AM

Lorth sees the commotion with Itzal and deems that Harvest must be up to something he would disapprove of. Probably poking around the rest of the house. Well they should be able to handle their own mess, he thinks.
"Couldn't we just have a pleasant evening out, and just observe?", he says aloud, but mostly to himself.
Lorth sighs, stands up and walks out the front door. He looks over to where Tobiasz should be and heads in that direction.
If he hears Arminas scaring the guests, Lorth reassures them and offers to escort anyone who needs it.

Bralin
Friday July 20th, 2007 11:49:16 AM

Bralin remains seated and reaches for another sweet.

As Lorth leaves, the dwarf motions for Davros and Malgant to remain with him. "Tis a matter for diplomats," he remarks. "There is no physical danger, and I have no gift for words."

Bralin eats and observes.

"Phaedra, what a beautiful name. The only way it could sound more pleasant is if it's said by your wonderful red lips."
Desolute has no chance of cutting off Itzal, so he goes about his business thinking these guys need someone a tad more stealthy if they want to get nosey in someone elses house.
"Phaedra, please tell me how I may contact you after tonight, so that I may call upon you sometime for, uh, refrshments, yes?"
Desolute seduces the woman in the hopes of a very early morning stroll, but his curiosity for the moment is rather distracting as well.
Decisions, decisions. Does his professional curiosity outweigh his carnal instincts? We shall soon see.

Arminas

Arminas turns to the man, and says:

"In truth, it is difficult to know if they prowl tonight. Darkness is their friend. Good sense tells one to be safely at home before dark, yet it seems these affairs cause normally sensible people to make foolish decisions. We have recently fought brigands, Dragon spawn and giant insects in this region. Though I forget, we are guests of a mighty wizard, I am sure nothing will molest you. Like I said, safe travels to you."

Then Arminas hears the voices in the house. Rolling his eyes, he steps through the door and looks toward the stairs.

Davros
Friday July 20th, 2007 11:09:35 PM

"Well, Bralin while I find myself irritated at not being considered one of the "diplomats", I can't object to joining you for another bite to eat. I don't believe Itzal is very fond of me at the moment and my presence may simply serve to annoy him further."

Sitting down next to Bralin and Malgant, Davros grabs another sweet and finishes it off with his glass of wine.

Malgant
Saturday July 21st, 2007 2:45:51 AM

" You both know she is in the wrong, am I correct? We were invited to a party. As guests. Not as witch hunters, evil eradicators, or snoops. We have no right seeking about the home of another or going where we are not meant to be. Honestly, are we better because we can stop dead the blood of a person and freeze them in place, or fight a dozen men to a standstill, or blow the wings of a dragon with spells? I say no. Because of those skills, hard won though they may be we are more responsible than ever to be sure that we do the right thing and uphold the law and custom of the land unless it be tyranical and in need of a change. I saw no such behavior before the council a few days ago and I saw nothing in the council's demeanor to suggest that theirs was an unjust or tyranical rule. Should the lad wish to take legal action he would be within his rights." Malgant says this privately to Bralin and Davros. He begins to rethink his affiliation with the Swords. He knows they are on the side of Good, that is without question, but the rights of others need not be trampled to find the greater good. He remains by Bralin and Davros' side to see how this develops.

The older couple blinks at Arminas, clearly not knowing what to make of him. Again, they exchange uneasy glances, then the woman seems to make up her mind. "Let's go, Horace," she says decicively. "The boy's talking nonsense." The couple hurries away, but they can't seem to help looking all about them as they go.

"Oh, what a charmer!" Phaedra says, smiling at Desolute. "You sweep a girl off her feet, I must say." Her lashes flick coyly downwards. "I'm not sure I trust myself with you," she says.

After some persuading, though, she tells Desolute where she lives.

Itzal continues up the stairs, brushing aside Any's attempt at diplomacy. He rushes to the door of his chamber, yanks it open, and looks around inside. Turning, he glares at Harvest. "You had no right to go in here!" he shouts. "How dare you!"

Itzal's voice is not quiet. By now all the guests are staring up the stairs.

"Itzal, my love," says his mother, climbing the stairs after him, "please don't shout. You embarrass our guests." She turns, looking at Harvest and Any, then flicking her gaze to where Bralin, Davros, Florin, and Maglant watch. "My son is very upset," she says, dignified. "Perhaps it would be best if you all left. Immediately."

Although her voice is still cultured and polite, there is no doubt she is ordering you out.

"Lucarinda," she adds, "please fetch the adventurers' wraps. They are leaving."

Lorth
Monday July 23rd, 2007 7:34:57 AM

Lorth crosses the yard to where Tobiasz is standing. "Hey friend, another boring night for you eh?", he says. He then mounts up and waits for his friends to inevitably be thrown out the door.
Lorth has troubled thoughts...
Harvest's actions have bothered him greatly, the Jerse's are law abiding citizens. The members of the Swords of Light have no right to take the law into their own hands to search the premises. As far as they know Itzal is a spoiled rottern boy with social problems, he has no evil aura. This certainly doesn't justify searching someone's private quarters. Are we to ride around the land and search every awkward teenagers belongings?

Bralin
Monday July 23rd, 2007 10:39:53 AM

Bralin patiently listens to Malgant's speech.

"Harvest is young," he offers neutrally, "and thus suffers from a conviction to ideals common to youth. Consequences of action are considered irrelavnt." The dwarf gives the taur and appraising eye. "Tis common for the young to leap to conclusions."

"This group is rarely of one mind. We will address Harvest's actions at an opportune time. Tis done, and bickering among ourselves, within hearing of all, will not undo it."

Hearing the mother, Bralin rises. "Now, we depart." Having retained his cloak, the warrior has no need to wait for Lucarinda. Nodding slightly to the matron and her son, he leaves.

Harvest
Monday July 23rd, 2007 11:58:06 AM

"I apologize for upsetting you," Harvest Moon inclines her head to both Itzal Jerse and to his mother as well. "But I must repeat that Paladin Florin Jandeth has detected the presence of Evil within your home. Such things are not mistaken."

She stands unmoving upon the stairs as the others make as to leave.

"There is danger here," she calls out to the others. "You are in danger," she adds to the Jerse family.

Florin Jadenth
Monday July 23rd, 2007 3:02:02 PM

Florin looks to his friends, the Jerse's and then to Harvest and speaks gently to her, "Let us go Harvest. We have been asked to leave." Florin looks to the mother since she seems to be of more sound mind and understanding, "She speaks truth, I felt something was odd so used my ability as a paladin and sensed evil upstairs of your home. I, Harvest and I would assume others of the Swords worry about you, your family and quests. The means Harvest used might not of been the most diplomatic and such but you can not expect ones such as us to just turn a blind eye to such things and not act upon them. Come what may now, you been told, your guests have been warned and now Madam, paladin like or not I take my leave of your home. I did what was expected of me from my god, a god who believes in protecting those who can not do it for themselves. As a old saying goes. You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make it drink."

Florin turns on his heel and moves towards the door and out depending one what happens, giving a loud whistle for Ajax to come to him. He also looks to Ivy and holds out his arm for her, "I will give you a ride home if you like my dear."

Florin looks to Malgant and smiles to him also as he speaks to his friend while at the door, "I seen your dislike of some of the actions. Not saying right or wrong but you must admit the heart was in the right place you know. We must look at the good and the bad of all decisions and go with the one we personally think is right for the time." Florin smiles for he went with his gut and used his detect evil, then went with his gut and instincts and told the members of the group that he could tell.

Florin looks towards Lorth and thinks before leaning his head to the side and pondering some, "Lorth? may I speak to you later. Say we get a drink later, I think we should as a group." Florin looks to his friend, he had gotten along well with Lorth but he feels right now that his paladin friend is troubled over things and wishes to talk to him and the others later.

Malgant
Monday July 23rd, 2007 4:30:23 PM

Malgant waits for his cloak, and takes his leave. He ponders why speaking quietly to the two or three friends around him is considered bickering in front of others. He shrugs and thanks the young woman for his cloak and steps outside to await the rest of the Swords of Light. A discussion back at the Inn in private is in order as Florin suggests, though a drink after the nights libations maynot be prudent.

Desolute
Monday July 23rd, 2007 5:16:35 PM

"Ah Phaedra, I must admit, I don't trust myself around you much either. Please explain to me why a woman with so much to offer has come to an event unescorted? I'm not going to have some sergeant major of Dirt City elite forces after me for spending time with his lady, will I? I really can not afford such distinctions."
Then the commotion that was bound to occur, happens. He hears Harvest's plea for people to be wary of evil there. Desolute smiles to himself while thinking I can't believe the Paladin only noticed one evil entity at a nobles party. Perhaps Nobles are not the scum bag hum drums I thought them earlier. Phaedra's pleasant enough anyway.
"What would you like to do my beauty? The party although winding down continues to some degree, or we can take a walk? If tonight is not convenient for you, we can become better acquainted at a later date?" Desolute appears the gallant gentleman, allowing the lady her choice for the evening's course. Although he would have no problems if she wanted to end it now or in the morning, he would like to catch up with the hero's before their next excursion.

Harvest (2nd Post)
Monday July 23rd, 2007 5:59:01 PM

Harvest Moon turns a puzzled look upon the elfish Paladin, Florin Jandeth.

"You do not have faith in what Domi has shown you in this house, Florin Jandeth?" she asks. Then she raises her voice to those left within the room. "People cannot be protected all of their lives. At some point they must take charge of themselves, be free to come to the harm that life brings to all at one time or another. If they are not allowed this, then they become prisoners of their own security."

"I understand this. But we have two paladins here, both gifted by their gods to see what is evil in order to protect what is good, and yet you would leave these people with a lingering evil without even taking the effort to look one last time?"

"Minotaur Malgant, you aspire to be a Protector of Domi. Would you not wish to ascertain the safety of your charge before leaving? It is a simple thing, and it is not an invasion as all that is seen is the evil."

Davros
Monday July 23rd, 2007 9:01:45 PM

"Easy, Harvest. A paladin's role is not to stamp out every last source of evil that chance should bring them to. Surely you understand the balance of life better than that. Such a task is impossible, not always welcomed, and if succesful, what then of the Wold? The others are right, it is time to leave and we may discuss these events later."

"Madam Jerse, My sincere apologies for any disruption to your party. But know this: your son traffics in magics he does not understand, and may one day consume not only himself but your entire family. I recommend you seek counsel with the mages at his school and let common sense prevail where my own advice has failed."

"Itzal, my offer to help you still stands. You may reach me at the Inn in Jarlwolf. I hope you consider this strongly and intelligently."

Davros takes his leave and waits outside. When the others are prepared to go, he conjures a magical horse for the ride back to Jarlwolf.

Any - sub by Kelly
Monday July 23rd, 2007 10:56:17 PM

Any looks at Harvest with understanding in his eyes. It seems the group has deserted her at the moment.

"Come Harvest, it seems the others will not help. Without the paladins, I do not know a way to find the truth. Itzal, will you not have your friend come out and speak with us? There is nothing to fear, I promise we only seek understanding."

Motioning for Harvest, Any waits to leave with her by his side.

Arminas
Monday July 23rd, 2007 11:03:26 PM

Finally, the Swords of Light are ready to leave, though the circumstances are not what he expected.

"This is why I hate gatherings, it seems like there is always misunderstandings. Much better to go and speak with squirrels and foxes. Much easier to understand, at least once you grasp the language."

Arminas is ready to travel, but climbs the tree and retrieves the gear that was stored there.

DM Kathy
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 12:39:49 AM

Lorth, Bralin, and Maglant decamp immediately, to be joined outside by Arminas. They find the party's gear just as they left it.

Desolute continues to woo Phaedra, who sniffs a little at the mention of Dirt City. "Dirt City?" she repeats. "Do I look like a goblin to you? I fear you may have lost your gift for flattery, sir." There is, nevertheless, a coquettish lilt to her tone that suggests she might be brought around at a later date. In the meantime, Desolute knows where she can be found.

Florin and Harvest attempt one last warning to the household. Mistress Jerse draws herself up even taller. "I thank you for your concern," she says icily, "but I assure you we are more than capable of dealing with any unwelcome intruders who may threaten the calm of our household. Our manservants all have good, solid cudgels and know how to use them--should the situation call for it." She turns to the other guests with a tight-lipped smile. "So pray, do not concern yourselves. We will allow no harm to come to our guests."

Any, knowing a hopeless situation when he sees one, tries to get Harvest to come away with him. Florin is already leaving, the faithful Ivy by his side.

Davros also makes one final attempt to be heard. "The mages at his school," Mistress Jerse replies, "have given him top marks. Like so many others, you simply do not understand my son's genius. I assure you he is in no danger."

Outside, the night is clear and chill. The glowing balls have gone, but more prosaic torches burn every few feet, illuminating the path and making it reasonably safe to travel. Your horses are a little sleepy at this hour, but willing enough to be ridden so long as they are headed for their stables.

Lorth
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 8:02:40 AM

Lorth rides along with his friends, he looks at the ground and lets Tobiasz just follow the other horses along.
After a moment he speaks, "Let me try and explain something to you, I am a paladin, the two things my order values most is good and law. Breaking into someones private dwelling without proof of wrongdoing is breaking the law, I cannot support anyone in this, no matter what you suspect lies on the other side. We have no proof that Itzal is in league with something evil, just that he is a spoiled brat and that isn't against the law. Yes, there is something evil in the house, and I would be the first to root it out, if the Jerses gave us permission. However we did not have that permission.
Perhaps you should of informed the Jerses that something evil was in their house before you broke into their private quarters? Then perhaps they would of been more receptive to you searching it."
He then looks to Florin, "Florin I am no expert of Domi, but I thought that he also required his paladins to follow the law, perhaps I am mistaken. Putting law to the side because the ends justify the means is not acceptable to a paladin order, I am suprised Domi allows this. We do not go with gut feelings, we follow the law and do good. You my friend stray to a neutral path, certainly not lawful."

Harvest
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 9:17:35 AM

Harvest Moon rides silently upon Fyrda on the short return trip to Jarlwolf. There are many things to think of, and not all of them are of this night. She rides silent still, listening as Lorth addresses the group. She rides in silence until he has his say.

"If you wish to speak of me, Paladin Lorth, then please do so as I am the one who you accuse of breaking in, is that not true?" Her words are bitter, but with the bitterness is also a trace of sorrow. "Wisdom would caution you to have greater patience and learn of the entire story before using such words as 'breaking in'. You would have discovered that I had informed the entire kitchen staff that I was going above. You would also have discovered that I was lead upstairs by the maid servant, Lucarinda, who showed me each room herself. It is only the door to the room of Itzal Jerse that I myself opened as I feared for Lucarinda's safety. Even then, it was not locked. There was no breaking necessary."

"Further, and more important, I think your words to Paladin Florin Jandeth are an insult and show an even greater lack of wisdom. You confuse the Law with the Law of the Land. In the Contested Kingdoms where I am from, the Law of the Land is the word of the nearest one to claim right over the territory by force of arms. This law is self-interested and rarely just. In the Emerald Kingdom, Parnoth's word is the Law of the Land, and yet you came with us and became a criminal under Parnoth's decrees."

"I have been taught that a Paladin's word is the Law, and I have faith that Domi grants Paladin Florin Jandeth his wisdom and his justice. I have faith that Paladin Florin speaks with Domi's voice."

"I would not have acted as I did otherwise."

The small brown girl lapses, once again, into silence. Her eyes stray in the moonlight to the hills and shadowed vales of Athos' face. Inside, she feels her heart as it tears in twain.

Any - sub by Kelly
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 10:09:24 AM

Any rides along side Harvest, his shoulders are tense as Lorth scoulds the group for Harvest's actions. He opens his mouth, ready to defend her actions, when Harvest does just that.

A large smile comes upon his face as he turns and looks at Lorth.

"She is right of course, I ride will a fugitive from the law. Someone lawfully imprisoned in the Emerald Kingdom, yet escaped merely because the sentence seemed difficult to bear."

Any starts to hum:

"When danger reared its ugly head,
he quickly turned his tail and fled ..."

Looking about, he adds:

"Hmmm, it is late. I think I am borrowing someone elses tune. Later I must compose a ballad of our adventures. The stories must be remembered, or how else do we learn?"

Arminas
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 10:25:27 AM

Arminas rides along on Darkfire, glad to be on the open road. Unfortunately, the difficulties inherent in large gatherings has has crept into his group and followed him along the road. Lorth's scolding is too much.

"Lorth, it is no secret that we do not agree much on how one should live. Is it not true though, that it is difficult to impose your beliefs on others? Do not berate Harvest for doing what she felt was right. She has proven her heart is pure, that is all one can hope for in a friend and companion."

Then he adds:

"Do not worry about being a fugitive from the law. Parnoth's laws are tyranical .... as are all laws that restrict my freedoms."

Bralin
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 3:14:07 PM

Bralin rides in the rear of the group, pacing Malgant. As Lorth lectures all with a wide brush, and Harvest has her retort, the dwarf cathces the eye of the taur, and shrugs.

He chimes in, his voice calm and reasonable.

"Lorth, ye must acknowledge your personal standard of what is lawful is highly placed. I have never met your equal in that regard."

"But I must agree, Harvest, that your actions were precipitous."

Bralin doesn't wait for the expected rebuttal, and plows on in his ususal professional tone.

"My objection is tactical. Consider, tis reasonable to believe the boy's advancement and the evil Florin detected are related. If true, the situation inside the home has existed for some time, and was likely to continue unabated for some time to come. As no one was injured in the past, none at the party were in immediate danger. The evil was dormant, presumably biding its time and growing the boy's power. Now, we have prematurely alerted all that we are aware of it."

"Tis likely we have accomplished little tonight but antagonize the innocent, and forewarn the guilty."

Florin Jadenth
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 3:54:01 PM

Florin rides along with his friends and listens to what is said before easing his horse back, "I will exsourt Ivy home and cetch up with you all at the Inn." Florin nudges Ajax and pats Ivy's arm which should be around his waist as he was going to give her a lift home too.

As he moves to go pass Lorth he slows his horse down and looks to his friend, "Domi gave me the ability to sense evil and smite it. I did nothing more then sense and alert my friends of it for their judgement. An I trust the group and their actions, I can not fight along side all of you if I did not trust you with my life. To me what I did was like me alerting the guards of someone evil so they could be watched and then the guards do as they see fit. I myself would most likly keep a eye on the person too considering if I could stop someone from being hurt or killed then I did my job as a paladin...if that was wrong my friend then Domi should never of given me the gift to find evil and expect me to try and stop it. I do what I can to keep evil from growing and doing worse things then it may have already done..."

Florin looks to Bralin and nods to him, "I agree with your comments Bralin and will also add that we did do something else. The evil will do something now that we brought attention to it and to ourselves and we know it will act through the young wizard without a doubt. Not to mention we made the kid upset which wasn't hard to begin with, he will act and he will use whatever is in there for his aid. Thats why I told Harvest we should go other then the fact that we would just ended up having to fight innocent people. The Lady's guards would of lept at her command at then we would of had to defend outselves against people who have nothing to do with what is going on."

Florin rides off now with Ivy to take her home, he sighs abit and touches the handle of his sword that rests over the saddle horn and then looks back to the road.

Malgant
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 5:39:01 PM

Before Florin can ride off Malgant adds his rather deep and even voice to the discussion. He speaks forcefully and you get the impression he has thought about his words while the rest have been bickering about blame.
"Before you go Florin, might I suggest that you leave some sort of protection with Lady Ivy once you reach her home. The rest of us may wish to take some precautions as well. Let me describe what I saw tonight and add my perspective to it. We were invited to a social event by a woman who is extreemly self conscious about how others see her and her family. We were invited because Anthos won the bard competition and the rest of you saved some children, which is an exploit I have yet to hear in its entirety. We were marks of prestige, and our being there to congratulate Itzal was a feather in his mothers cap. We met Itzal, from what I saw and heard, an unpopular boy, spoiled and owning less social grace than a dwarf with an active case of hemroids and food poisoning both at the same time. He was snubed and somehow, I am not sure how, made the person who snubbed him pay through embarassment. Seeing this Florin looked for a source of the slight with all of the powers at his disposal, both noble and in my eyes quite correct. Finding a source of evil in the house he also warned the rest of us, lest it decide that the shadows were not to its liking anymore and more than mischief were on its mind, also the correct thing to do by my reckoning. We then went into ultra paranoid mode because in most if not all of our experiences a source of evil is a sure sign that we are about to be molested in some way, I know that is true in at least my case. This paranoia led us to make some unfortunate choices. I know that Bralin saw some magical auras and tracked them relentlessly through the party, subtlely, and I followed his lead, likely less subtlely, and we found naught but Arminas at the end of that road. Harvest, while you may not have 'broken' into any rooms in the house, would you have listened to the servants if they had said that you shouldn't go upstairs? I have seen you set your mind on a thing, and I doubt that an appearance of Domi himself telling you it was a bad idea would have been enough to deter you. I would assume the servants were told to 'accomodate' the needs of their guests tonight and even though they knew that they were to keep all of the guests in the party area proper they were not going to risk the fire and brimstone of their mistress by not showing a curious guest the rest of the house if that guest were persistant."
" The rest was plain, at least to me. We are now thought of as fools by the majority of the nobles in the area, and that view is being strongly reinforced right now to any that choose to listen to Lady Jerse. Itzal, a boy that by all discription is vengeful and at least moderately powerful as a mage has the opinion that we intentionally tried to ruin his party and belittle his powers. If the source of the evil is his mentor, which I agree is likely, Itzal will want revenge. However we are adventurers. We are the hard targets. Would it not be easier to seek that revenge on someone dear to us, but far less protected? Forgive me Ivy, I do not want to upset you, or put you ill at ease, but these are what I see to be hard facts. You are quite likely in danger due to our antics tonight. I include all of us in that term of 'Our'. Any one of us could have thrown the brakes on the runaway searching of the house, but didn't. Now, I fear we are on the defensive, rather than on the offensive. But that is the path I aspire to, so be it."
" Further you berate Lorth for standing down when Lady Jerse became incensed at Harvest's snooping. Lorth was obeying the laws of the land. I saw no peasants uprising at the council meeting of the Pitchfork Council. You were working most recently for those council members. Because of that I have no reason to believe that their laws are not just. If they were, the Swords of Light would be working to overthrow the council rather than working with it."
" What's done is done. Could it have gone better? Surely. Are we planning on letting this go and allowing Itzal to become a petty tyrant wielding great power with little compassion or caring for those around him? From what I hear from the rest of you, Certainly not. What we need now is a plan of defense. We can be certain that someone as petty as Itzal will do something, our job is to make that something survivable for everyone it can hurt, not just ourselves. I prayed for mostly informational and defensive spells this day, so I am prepared to stand against Itzal's next move." Turning to Bralin, " What do you propose we do next Bralin?"
Malgant has now stopped in the road and waits for the Dwarf's response. He feels naked without his armor and sword, but stands sure that he has said the right thing. Assigning blame now will only lead to squabbling and give Itzal the edge. They gained some information tonight and they need to use what they know to protect the people of this area.

Desolute  d20+4=7
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 5:59:19 PM

Desolute smirks at his faupaux in words and shrugs off his mistake, "Of course not my lady. The implication was in regard to whatever fool would leave a such a voluptuous woman alone on night like this."

Desolute continues to pay attention Phaedra but concentrates on Itzal and his mother. he will attempt to listen in on their conversation or perhaps a plan for revenge if they have one. Itzal said they would pay. If only I can figure out how he intends to do so. Failing miserably, Desolute thinks of another plan.

Dang it, I need to get closer to them!
"Pardon me Phaedra, I must excuse myself for a short time. I shall return to your warm side soon though."

Desolute maneuvers his way through the part to try and get another listen check in, next post.

Lorth (2nd illegal post)
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 6:21:47 PM

Lorth turns to Harvest and gives her and incredulous look, "We are both intelligent adults Harvest, please don't insult me by saying you had the permission of the servants. All of us know that the servants where most likely instructed to try and help us in anyway. You didn't seek permission of the owners of the home and we both know why.
Secondly, I don't confuse the law and the law of the land. The law in this land is held by the pitchfork council, I would like to believe that they are just and goodly, therefore we must follow their laws. Do you believe that our group is above the law? I certainly do not, for that is the path of a tyrant.
Furthermore, In Parnoth's land the laws are tyranical and unjust as was our sentence and incarceration and you know quite well that we all stand against that, here it is quite the opposite."

(OOC: Guys, I just want to throw this out there, please take none of this personally. Obviously I am lawful good and a paladin to boot. It is quite difficult to run with a mostly chaotic party. It is much easier when we are out in the wilderness or battling evil and the lines are black and white :)

As per the rules...
Lawful characters tell the truth, keep their word, respect authority, honor tradition, and judge those who fall short of their duties.

Chaotic characters follow their consciences, resent being told what to do, favor new ideas over tradition, and do what they promise if they feel like it.

"Law" implies honor, trustworthiness, obedience to authority, and reliability. On the downside, lawfulness can include close-mindedness, reactionary adherence to tradition, judgmentalness, and a lack of adaptability. Those who consciously promote lawfulness say that only lawful behavior creates a society in which people can depend on each other and make the right decisions in full confidence that others will act as they should.

"Chaos" implies freedom, adaptability, and flexibility. On the downside, chaos can include recklessness, resentment toward legitimate authority, arbitrary actions, and irresponsibility. Those who promote chaotic behavior say that only unfettered personal freedom allows people to express themselves fully and lets society benefit from the potential that its individuals have within them.)

Harvest (2nd Illegal Post)
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 8:40:52 PM

A dark look comes over Harvest Moon's face.

"You are implying, Paladin Lorth, that there is dishonesty to my motives?" she asks. "Beware your words."

"If you defer to the Laws of the Pitchfork Council, then why is it that you usurp their words and speak as though you have their minds? If you question my actions in the name of the Pitchfork Council then we must go to them tomorrow and ask for their judgement."

"And if you not only knew that there was evil upstairs, but that it may have been a creature that influences Itzal Jerse, I do not understand why you did not immediately seek it out. It is evil growing its strength among the innocent. I do not understand where a tactical advantage might be gained from ignoring such."

Malgant's words are many, and it is difficult to understand how he comes to know many of the things that he says. Many also appear ... unfounded. Harvest says nothing in reply to them.

Lorth (3rd illegal post)
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 9:02:22 PM

Again to Harvest, "Certainly there is no dishonesty in your motive, your motive was to seek out evil, how could that be dishonest? Your methods where troubling.
As for why I didn't charge up the stairs to seek out this slight evil. Because I am not a soldier or guardsman of this area, I have no right to invade someones private abode because I think there is something amiss. I've said as much before, I don't know how to say it more plainly. We haven't the right it is as simple as that.
As for going to the Council, go to them if you like, ask them if it is ok for you to take initiative and invade someones private property when you feel like it. I don't need to, I know the answer. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jerse's don't file a complaint with the them anyway and you find out."

Arminas - 2nd illegal post
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 9:23:40 PM

Arminas can't help to be drawn into Lorth's words:

"Lorth, so you do not deny that if you feel a law unjust then it is alright to disobey such a law? Such is the statement you made regarding Parnoth's laws. You my friend are a proponent of chaos. I have a new found respect for you my chaotic brother."

Davros
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 10:44:05 PM

Davros weighs many thoughts and ponders the conversation and the events before speaking.

"Harvest, opening that door was more likely a breach of etiquette as opposed to an unlawful act. However, it was very foolish of you. Itzal does not apper to be an accomplished mage, but even simple magics can hold great peril for those who are unprepared. And there is the matter of Itzal's 'friend'. I suspect the creature may be from the Abyss itself. And if so may possess terrible powers. You were all alone."

"There can be no doubt that evil gains strength in that house. I am not even entirely convinced that Mistress jerse herself does not promote it to increase her social standing. Harvest's minor transgression must be set aside, for we as a group must determine a course of action now. What should we do? There is also the matter of implied revenge. We should be wary this night, and maybe for many to come."

"As for our reputations, I wouldn't worry. Most of the nobles who show up for such parties are disappointed if nothing embarassing happens. It gives them something to gossip about and hold over one another. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them thanked us for the entertainment."there could then be many parties in our future...

While traveling, Davros happily relates the story, or what he knows of it, about saving the children and the group's thankfully short but tragic visit to Koshe-Marr. Hopefully it will break some tension...

You have much to discuss as you head back to Jarlwolf. Ivy looks a little alarmed at some of the talk, but seems to have faith that Florin will protect her.

As for the Swords of Light, it is clear they have differing opinions about what should have happened tonight...

[OOC: I could pretend I'm giving you a short DM post so that you could continue roleplaying, but the truth is I'm up way too late and ready to go to sleep. :) Do continue your discussion, though; you've got some great roleplaying going on.]

Lorth
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 7:40:51 AM

Lorth gives Arminas a resigned look, "Again, unjust and tyrannical law is something none of us would obey. You can call it what you like, however that is not how I see it. Struggle against tyranny is just, lawful and good. The fact is that the laws here are not unjust and tyrannical, therefore they must be followed."

Lorth sighs,"It is easy to pick apart my words while ignoring what I am trying to say. I could do the same to you if you where trying to express a point. In the end I'm sure nothing I say will change any of your attitudes and we will all continue to follow what we think is the correct course of action. Certainly we are all good people and most of the time that is all that matters."

Lorth is saddened he cannot make his friends see his point of view. He decides that he will make penance for them on the morrow. He rides in silence the rest of the way back to town, along Tobiasz to pick the pace.

Bralin
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 10:39:19 AM

Bralin is still unperturbed by the questions and accusations flung about. He diligently sticks with answering questions specifically asked of him.

"The tactical advantage, Harvest, lied in choosing the time and place for confrontation. If you are aware of your opponent while they are unaware of you, you have the advantage. One should not immediately start a fire without first ascertaining it will not spread. Our battles always involve sufficient magics to bring down the Jerze's home."

The dwarf then turns to Malgant.
"Our supposition is the entity lacked sufficient power to act. Tis unlikely it will gain that power tonight. We should have time to resolve our internal differences 'ere requiring a course of action. I say return to the inn, and wait. Tis doubtful the Jerze's reaction to tonight's events will manifest as a physical confrontation."

Harvest
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 11:23:39 AM

A mounting alarm grows upon Harvest Moon's face.

"Tell me more of the friend of Itzal Jerse," she asks of Davros Sapphiredge. "I had not heard of this until you spoke of it. If the truth of this is even half as dire as the things of which you speak then we must return immediately!"

"Paladin Florin!" Harvest calls after the departing couple. "If there is danger you should not go alone!"

"Paladin Lorth, if you believe that an invasion of privacy lacks in lawfulness then I ask you how such a lack would compare against the harboring of an Abyssal creature? Which is the greater breach and which should hold preeminence over the other."

"You, as Florin Jandeth, are a paladin, and I hold you in the same esteem as he as a arbiter of the law in the name of Gargul. Upon your word we may ride back and see to this threat now. If you cede your authority to the law of the Pitchfork Council, then we must ride now to Madame Dulcet. There we may gain her judgment and her leave to act."

"You are a Paladin, Lorth Jeradosta, the decision falls to you."

Lorth
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 12:37:59 PM

Lorth listens to Harvest speak, then answers slowly, "Obviously I see your point, taking time to follow the law may cause more harm than rooting out the evil now. I however must follow the law.
I suggest this. I will ride ahead to Dulcet and explain what we have found, asking for permission to act in the council's name to investigate and rid the land of this evil. I will then return as quick as possible. The rest of you can watch the Jerse's home, to be sure this evil doesn't leave or spread.
However, I am of course open to other courses of action, if anyone has better ideas."

Lorth smiles with his attempt to assuage everyone present, "With everyones ok, I will be off."

Excusing himself to the restroom, Desolute actually starts working. Casing the place if you will. He wants to notice every nook, cranny or object that allows shadow to occur, a place to hide, or a place to hide something. He tries to position himself in a place near the stairs where he can hear the Jerse's conversation, whatever that might be. If someone comes near him this time, he will send them away using what diplomacy he can manage.
If Itzal sees him, all the better. If he can get on Itzal's good side, maybe the punk will confide in the half orc and perhaps "hire" him for some work against the adventurers. Desolute would never choose the side of evil again, but he knows how it works and he knows how to fit in around it. Perhaps his past was preplanned by the gods, there to help those in the future?

Harvest
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 3:49:09 PM

Fyrda tosses her head and trots in a circle beneath Harvest, testament to the roiling emotions in the girl upon her back.

"That is not my point, Paladin Lorth. The point of which I speak is that sometimes greater laws must take precedence over smaller ones."

The brown girl, with a dark frown upon her face, reviews her words.

"You thought that I was speaking with a double meaning, did you not?. You think in a very twisted manner. No. If we must get authority from Madame Dulcet then we must. But if matters are dire then I do not think she would wish us to wait until morning. She would wish us to waken her for it is her duty as well."

Davros
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 4:24:33 PM

"I don't think matters are so dire that they require immediate action. This is a noble family we are dealing with. Any major misstep on our part could find us being asked to leave the area by the Pitchfork Council. There is time to discuss this. I believe that in addition to informing the council, the wizard school in Rowena should also be contacted. This matter could very well be for the local and school authorities to handle."

"As for the matter of the 'creature', I suspect Itzal has acquired himself a special familiar. Some wizards acquire small creatures of the Abyss called imps to serve them. It usually takes a strong will to control them however and Itzal may be lacking. I don't think there is any immediate danger, since this situation may have been going on for some time. The creature is also likely the reason for Itzal's improved fortunes at the school."

"Going directly back would be a mistake. Bralin is correct, if we do end up confronting such a creature, we should prepare first. I am aware they can turn invisible, which was plenty evident at the party. I also recall they have strong poison. Even though they are amongst the weakest of the creatures of the Abyss, they should not be taken lightly."

Harvest
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 4:37:41 PM

Harvest turns her efforts to calming Fyrda. Normally gentle and placid, her behavior cannot but be in reflection of Harvest Moon's own. Harvest reaches forward to stroke Fyrda's neck. She whispers soft and meaningless words until the great plow horse is again calm.

"I will take your counsel, Davros Sapphiredge," she says to the wizard. Then a question occurs. "Would a familar of such a sort mean that Itzal Jerse is now Evil or is soon to become so?" asks Harvest Moon.

Malgant
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 5:15:52 PM

" On the contrary Bralin. If there is an ecil in the house strong enough to be Itzal's mentor, I would guess that it just has a better sense of how to handle people than we displayed tonight. Think on this, we stood there and swore to the heavens that there was an evil in the house. If there is, and I do not doubt Florin's senses then it gains nothing by revealing itself to attack us. However if it bides its timeand watches us and listens to us, as it couldeven be doing now since it can apparently become invisible, then we are made to look the fool and it gains he edge of knowing our plans. I find it unlikely that it would come this far from its master, but it is a thought."

Any - sub by Kelly
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 6:30:21 PM

Any rides along side Harvest as he tries to understand the danger.

"I believe what everyone is saying, is that we do not know the extent of the evil or danger from said evil. Harvest tried to ascertain the information by stealth. Clearly, when stealth no longer worked she stepped forward and directly questioned it. While it would have been better to determine the source of the evil this night, that is no longer an option. Not without armed confrontation. None of us know the danger, or how immediate the danger is. Lorth's suggesting to ride to seek council seems good. I for one would like to sleep on this."

Arminas
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 6:36:20 PM

Arminas nods as Lorth speaks to him:

"Yes, I suppose words can be used as weapons. I used them to point out that how just a law is depends upon those who percieve it. There are those in Parnoth's realm who think he is a wise and just master. If the Pitchfork Council gives us permission to root out the evil from the Jerse household, then Itazl and his friend will think the law unjust. We are all somewhat partial to which laws we accept. We all follow our hearts, and what else is more chaotic than the heart?"

Talk of immediate action seem premature to Arminas as well.

"I do not fear retribution from the thing in the Jerse house. Perhaps this evenings events will cause it to act, thus showing itself. I say we wait."

Davros
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 7:47:48 PM

"The creature is certainly evil. Whether Itzal is remains to be seen. I don't believe Lorth or Florin sensed anything about him? Regardless, the creature surely tempts him tremendously every day."

"I should mention that a familiar such as my rat and a wizard share a special magical bond. Breaking that bond will cause some harm to Itzal if the creature is suddenly killed. We must proceed with caution."

Florin Jadenth
Thursday July 26th, 2007 12:25:24 AM

At the words of his friends, Florin slows before moving to far and looks to Ivy before speaking to the others, "I plan to explain the situtation to Ivy's parents and offer to spend the night there to make sure nothing happens this night. Come tomorrow I will ask favor from the temple to see a protection placed on the house to be sure of it's safty."

Florin looks towards Lorth and speaks to his friend, "Friend Lorth, I know your code and you know mine but I wish to speak one thing plainly to you so you know up front. If anything happens to Ivy or her parents and it is traced to that house without a doubt then I will not hold back on destroying the evil within it, if the law will not handle it then I will from that point. That may not sound paladin like but Ivy is to be my wife and I consider her family mine and I will not stand blindly to the harm of my family or friends. To me even a god can not ask me to place my family and friends second. I could not do what I do, protect what I protect and fight what I have to fight without them....As I said, that is not paladin like but I just wish to say that now so you know. As a friend I would hope you will understand that and still cover my back if needed for I will not stray from covering yours or any others here. Either way I'm just a mortal like all else here, I make mistakes like all others. I pray to Domi to guide me and if I make a mistake then I pray he forgives me too."

Florin looks over the group and thinks of each person before leaning his head to the side, "I would like to ask you to join me to Lorth in watching over Ivy and her parent's place tonight. Will you aid me? Malgant and Bralin should stay with the rest of the group and I think we would make a good pair to watch over the place. If you rather not because I have offended you then I will understand. Know that I did not mean to though and I respect your thoughts, your code and pray you will respect my thoughts and code too."

Florin looks to Arminas, "I think if anything happens and I and however comes along with me is needed that you should send your friend to get us. Since I can not speak to animals I will figure you need help if I see him. Will that work? I'm not sure how we will alert any of you if we need help but I'm sure we'll manage if anything happens."

Florin lastly looks to bralin and smiles to him, Florin can't help but be worried for the sturdy dwarf, "I know I don't have to say this Bralin but none the less, you watch your back and the others too. I might be worrying something will happen for no good reason but we know it's coming and thats enough to put all of us on guard."

Florin will take Ivy home once the talk is over. If Lorth prefers not to help Florin then he will as Malgant or Davros as either would be helpful in detecting anything happening around the house. Florin thinks Bralin as leader should stay with the bulk of the group though.

Florin speaks to Ivy on the way to her home, "I'm sorry for getting you into this Ivy. I didn't consider all angles back at the party. Your father was a advetuer he said. I hope he will understand when I explain this all to him and offer my services and seek help come tomorrow."

DM Kathy
Thursday July 26th, 2007 12:50:12 AM

You have much to discuss on your way back to town--so much, that you aren't quite finished with your discussion when you arrive in the quiet streets of Jarlwolf proper.

Florin is concerned for Ivy's safety and would like to keep a watch at her house. He invites Lorth to join him. He does not invite anyone else by name, but probably would not turn down offers of help.

Harvest has expressed a wish to rouse Dulcet this very night and inform her of the goings-on in the Jerse household. Her companions have pointed out that that may not be prudent.

Your lodgings await you, as does Ivy's house and Mistress Dulcet's. Your horses, of course, have a very strong opinion about their preference.

[OOC clarification: The Jerse family is wealthy, and has pretentions to aristocracy, but they aren't nobles per se. Most of the guests at the party were either wealthy climbers like the Jerses, or commoners wearing their best finery and minding their manners like anything. :) ]

Lorth
Thursday July 26th, 2007 8:00:56 AM

"Florin, I will of course aid you in guarding your family. I will speak to Dulcet tomorrow unless the others go to speak to her before that. I would of course also have your back if you decided it was necessary to invade the Jerse home. However I can't say I wouldn't try and talk you out of it.", Lorth smiles.
Lorth moves Tobiasz to follow Florin...

Desolute
Thursday July 26th, 2007 11:25:20 AM

Not getting anywhere, the half orc goes back to find Phaedra. "Care to take a moonlight stroll around the grounds with me?" He will walk her around the outside of the house and along the perimeter as he cases the outside as well, looking for hiding places for himself, or perhaps others. He wants to get a look at the windows and possibly other entrances. He will use the house as a diversion to ask Phaedra about her's. Once he is finished, and he has an idea about patrols and such, they will find a secluded area, to get better aquainted.

Arminas
Thursday July 26th, 2007 7:02:04 PM

Arminas takes Darkfire to the stable, and combs him down himself. After feeding and watering him, he goes back into the Inn to find his room.

"I for one plan to get some rest, there is much to think about this night. I'll see you at breakfast."

With that, he goes to his room.

Harvest
Thursday July 26th, 2007 8:22:53 PM

Pasix? Pasix? What is the right thing to do?

No words of wisdom come to Harvest Moon. The voice of her master within her is silent.

She gives Fyrda her rein and the great plow horse makes her way back to the stable.

"I am sorry." Harvest reaches up and the old horse lowers her head to Harvest's touch. "An exciting life can be difficult. I do not know what to do." She looks in Anthos' direction. "I do not know, Fyrda." She sighs as a sleepy stableboy leads Harvest Moon's loyal mount into the stable.

"Is it a bad thing, Anthos?" Harvest links arms with her bard. "Am I a bad person? I was concerned for the guests and I wished to keep from harm, those working within the house. But for Itzal Jerse and his mother ... " Her voice trails to a silence with greater meaning than any spoken words. "They are ... It is difficult to care for them."

Harvest sighs and holds his arm.

"Shall we waken Madame Dulcet? Or should we wait until morning?"

Davros
Thursday July 26th, 2007 9:58:25 PM

"I will ride with Florin and Lorth. I have a spell which may provide some small measure of protection to the family. In the morning, I will spend some time...preparing."

Davros goes to his room at the Inn and quickly retrieves his books and gear.

"Ivy, when we arrive at your home, have your family prepare sleeping arrangements for everyone in a large common room or area. My spell will protect a few rooms only. I will leave it to Florin and Lorth to set watches for the three of us, and your family may rest soundly."

Davros will cast an alarm spell in the described area at the house.

Florin Jadenth
Thursday July 26th, 2007 10:36:21 PM

Florin is happy to have Lorth along and Davros also. He speaks to them and rubs Ivy's arm off and on to help comfort her of any worries as they travel to Ivy's home, "I'm glad to have you along. I understand your position Lorth and trust me, no action would come from me inless it is in my opinion prudent to act swiftly."

When he and the others arrive at Ivy's home, Florin takes the time to speak to her father first since Ivy's dad was like him and the others of the group once. He tells him of the party and what had happened, explaining his worry for Ivy and her family and telling him that he himself would rest easier if they allowed him and his friends to watch over the place till morning where as from there he would go visit the temple and ask for some assistance just incase.

Any - sub by Kelly
Thursday July 26th, 2007 11:13:16 PM

Any draws Harvest close by his side, the compassion flows from him into her.

"You are a good person, the best I have ever met. Paladins have harsh judgement, and I find it is difficult to understand their code. Best to follow your heart, and let the consequences fall where they may. Come, let us rest and awake Mistress Dulcet in the morning. We are strong enough I think to withstand this evil I believe. If it comes for us, it will give us reason enough to act."

Looking at the worry in Harvest's eyes, he adds:

"I will arrange for all of us to sleep in a large room together, we will even set watch. Come, I will speak with the others."

Any then finds Arminas, Bralin and Malgant and requests that they stay in the same room.

(Arminas agrees)

DM Kathy
Friday July 27th, 2007 2:07:47 AM

Desolute brings Phaedra outside for a "walk in the moonlight" that is actually a reconaissance mission. He notes that the large farmhouse has a front and back door, a couple of large windows on the ground floor, and several smaller windows on the upper floors. All of the windows have shutters, which are presently open. Phaedra is a little put out by all the attention Desolute is paying to the house, and not to her. She gets a little "better acquainted" with him, then suggests that they should meet another time.

The other Swords, meanwhile, care for their animals and begin to make sleeping arrangements. Ivy's parents have themselves just returned from the party, and it's clear to see that her father is releived they'll have some protection this evening. Extra pallets are dragged into the front room to form a kind of campsite for the adventurers.

Those staying at the inn can stay together simply by moving into one person's room; there is extra space in most of the rooms.

[Not sure whether we're talking about one big group or two smaller ones, but either way, it's doable.]

The night passes uneventfully. The adventurers at Ivy's house awake to find the smaller children running about in great excitement over having visitors.

"Did you really sleep on the floor?" one curly-haired lad asks Lorth in amazement. "I wanna sleep on the floor!"

"Me too, me too!" cries his younger sister.

Another boy has picked up Florin's helmet and is trying it on. Unable to see where he's going, he knocks over a toddler, who immediately begins to howl.

The domestic commotion is soon set to rights, however, and you can ready yourselves and study your spells in (relative) calm. Outside, a mist is clinging to the ground, but the rising sun should soon see an end to it.

Lorth
Friday July 27th, 2007 8:01:16 AM

Lorth smiles at the child, "Well perhaps you can have my spot next time, because I'd much rather sleep in a bed."
Lorth then busies himself cleaning and putting on his gear. He is careful to fold the outfit the Jerse's lent him and puts it in his pack. Hopefully he will have a chance to return it today.
On the way to the inn Lorth stops at the local temple. He places thirty platinum pieces in the poor box the prays at the altar. Gargul please send me guidance if I am in the wrong he thinks. He spends sometime reciting his prayers then leaves to meet the others.

Desolute
Friday July 27th, 2007 4:36:26 PM

Typical, I invite a lady out for a stroll and conversation and since it's not about her, she is offended. Desolute continues with her to a secluded location and when he gets as far as possible, he escorts the lady back to the house with a polite good night. I'm one of the best looking half orcs in this world and few are as charming, yet I still have to settle for average girls, where is the justice Pantheon? Going back inside the house, he says his good nights to the Jerse's and thanks them for the enjoyable evening. He then depats into the night. He skips off toward the inn with his thumbs tucked into his belt and a whistling tune on his lips, ready for a good nights sleep. As noticeable as the hero's are, they shouldn't be hard to find tonight or tomorrow.

Malgant
Friday July 27th, 2007 5:14:16 PM

Malgant awakes at first light and unlike most mornings dons his full kit to go outside and pray. He stands still as a stone for a moment in the field, allowing his mind to clear and the events of last night to be recalled clearly. THen he lumbers into the sword dance and the thinking begins. They know that Itzal is a spoiled brat. They know he is not liked by his peers, or at least by children of his own age in this area. They know he goes to a magic school nearby.hmmm.... a school nearby.

The Sword dance stutters as Malgany begins a new train of thought. Around him the mist swirls and trails his every move, muffling the cuts his sword makes as it passes through the air. A school nearby..... I wonder what his peers at school really think of him. Do they find him spoiled and aloof like we saw last night, or are they like him? Harvest seemed a bit puzzled by the mention of a school of magic in these parts and she knows the local terrain. IS there a school there or is that not what it seems either? The sword dance goes on, bringing up more questions than it answers. When it ends, Malgant decides to try an altogether different strategy today with the Swords of light. Maybe if they let the Jerse's lie undisturbed a little while they can glean useful information at the school.

Malgant returns to the Inn and asks that breakfast be brought up to the room so that they may all confer in private. He orders platters of eggs, bacon, sausages and biscuits amd some fresh fruit as well as milk and coffee to wash it down. Thinking on Bralin's appetite last night, he orders a bit more to cover both his and the dwarf's needs. This done he mounts the stairs prepared to talk to the others about alternative means of finding things out...this could work out.

Upon entering the room Malgant tries to remain quiet while the others sleep, that is until the food arrives. When it does, and the others begin to rise he starts to tell them about his idea.
" Why don't we try a different approach today? We saw last night how Itzal acts when he is among those he grew up with, why don't we go out of town and try to find this school of his? Maybe there we can talk to some of his instructors and some of his classmates and see if they can tell us more about him. Maybe they can tell us if he is as arrogant at school as he is at home. Maybe they can tell us how skilled he is in case it comes to a fight. Maybe they can tell us what to expect so that if it comes to a fight we can have the correct anti-magics ready to keep everyone concerned from getting hurt. What do you say? I know we will need to get Lorth, Florin and most of all Davros to get this done, since Davros will likely see things wrong or odd at the school we might well miss since he knows what he should see there. Then armed with more knowledge of what we are up against we can talk to the council and have more facts to present them with. Worth a try , i hink."

Bralin
Saturday July 28th, 2007 2:08:37 PM

Bralin beds down for the night with a sense of satisfaction. Again, prudence prevails and Harvest has heeded to the logic of the situation. The taciturn dwarf nods at Florin's warning, and sets up a watch schedule in the common room of the inn.

When Malgant returns from his excercises, the seasoned warrior awakes immediately. Bralin performs his standard morning prayers, and then helps himself to breakfast. As Malgant is doing quite a bit of talking, the hungry dwarf finds ample time to shovel one spoonful of porridge after another into his maw. By the time Malgant finishes speaking, Bralin is ready for the day.

"Mayhap some of us can inquire with Dulcet as well," he offers. "Her knowledge of the family and their behavior may prove crucial. Also her guidance."

Harvest
Sunday July 29th, 2007 12:14:15 PM

Even with Anthos' even calming breath next to her, it is a difficult night for Harvest Moon. Action. Inaction. Can one truly ever walk the Wold and do no harm? The pale undead image of Devrin haunts her dreams.

Morning comes. In some ways it comes too soon. In others, not soon enough. Harvest spends the early morning hour sitting within the ray of sunlight that enters through an open window of the room she had shared with the others last night. Alemi, though, is a god of compassion. He is not a god of answers.

"We must see Madame Dulcet to day, Anthos," she says with calm resolution. "There is only so many roads that we may tread and remain who we are. If we are confounded when we come to laws that conflict and bind our hands from helping others, then we must cease to help others."

"Our only other choice is to ourselves become agents of the law as are Madame Dulcet and the Pitchfork Council. We must ask Madame Dulcet if such is possible."

Sunday July 29th, 2007 3:12:31 PM

Glad that the night is uneventful (aside from having to listen to a dwarf snore) and over, Arminas rises very early and goes outside. He finds Ewan perched high in a tree near the Inn.

Whistling to her, Arminas joins the eagle in a hunting trip. While Ewan soars high above, Arminas kicks the bushes to scare rabbits into the open. Soon, Ewan has made her kill and Arminas has gotten some fresh air.

He makes his way back to the Inn in time to have a bit of breakfast. Listening to suggestions, he says:

"I will go with Harvest and Anthos to visit Madam Dulcet."

Spells prepared:
