DM Kathy Thursday July 19th, 2007 12:26:09 AM Harvest opens the door and looks inside (Lucarinda has already gone downstairs as instructed). The room is untidy, a stark contrast to the neatness of the rest of the rooms. Various articles of finery are strewn carelessly about. Apparantely, Itzal had trouble deciding what to wear tonight. The remaining magical auras are coming from a cluttered desk.
Lorth joins Bralin and they discuss the party briefly. Bralin is concerned about what Izal might become. Maglant joins them, wondering about Harvest.
Desolute spies a likely-looking lady in the card-room. She is past the first blush of youth, but not by much. She is not pretty in the traditional sense of the word, but has a confidence and intelligence about her that makes the most of her looks. She returns Desolute's glance with a bold wink before sauntering off in search of refreshments.
Davros continues to recount the group's exploits, and continues to entertain his listeners. Any's musical contributions are well-received, and the musicians are able to take a short break as he plays.
Ivy looks tense, but nods understanding to Florin's directions.
Suddenly, Itzal turns and races for the stairs. He charges right past Florin and Any, and everyone else downstairs can see him go. He rushes up the main stairs, muttering something under his breath.
Lorth Thursday July 19th, 2007 7:28:20 AM
"While I think you are correct, I'm not sure we could do anything except talk to him, unless he actually carries out his threats. Perhaps it is the bluster of youth talking and he is harmless.", Lorth says to Bralin, "Furthermore we can't just go around forcing people to do things, because we think they might do something untoward in the future." Lorth shrugs, it is not a situation he relishes being in, as he likes to see the world in black and white. There are to many shades of gray these days, he thinks.
Harvest d20+14=25 d20+14=22 Thursday July 19th, 2007 10:42:58 AM
Harvest Moon stands in the doorway concentrating still upon her spell. The auras that she had seen through the door, she now attempts to match to the objects in the room.
At the same time, her eyes watch for signs of an invisible presence. Her ears listen for movement in the quiet upstairs rooms. (Spot 25, Listen 22)

Desolute notices the lady and smiles. In the wilderness, any cave is home He walks up to her and introduces himself. After recieving her name, he takes her hand and as he looks her in the eys, kisses first her finger, then the back of her hand and lastly as he kisses her wrist, he places his right hand behind her arm. He begins to get to know her as Itzal starts for the stairs, Figures, just as I was about to get lucky also. Desolute, if he is any where near the stairs at the time, try's to trip the young lord using "Sleight of foot" as he appears to want to assist the recent graduate. "What is wrong my lord? How may I assist?" Since it was so spur of the moment, he had no time to anticipate his actions, so he will likely be thrown out if he was close enough to attempt such a daring display fumbling. (Ooc: Not sure of the penalties to try to trip someone and make it look like an accident, so I will make the rolls and you can apply what modifiers you like to determine success.)

Malgant Thursday July 19th, 2007 4:43:21 PM
Malgant tends to agree with Lorth, poor manners and a general lack of caring about those around you is nothing illegal, however distasteful, and forcing their will on anyone is like an unwanted dictatorship, unwanted and easily rebelled against. Still no having recieved an answer about Harvest, and seeing Itzal literally RACE for the stairs the Minotaur can't help but see a connection. Muttering quietly to the others near him." She is poking about isn't she? It looks like she has been noticed, one way or another. Here we go..."
Arminas Thursday July 19th, 2007 5:49:27 PM
"Good night sir and madam. Watch for the night prowlers on your way home, best to be safe."
Arminas is bored, and it seems mischief has crept into his mind.
"I'm sure you will be fine, hurry along though."
Bralin Thursday July 19th, 2007 8:09:27 PM
Bralin considers the words of Lorth and Malgant, before shaking his head slowly. "Twas not my intent to force the boy toward any course. His mother already has that course well in hand."
The dwarf pauses, wondering if the others will pick up on his attempt at humor.
"I thought to suggest to each that formal training, mayhap with the Star Mages, would be beneficial. The boy receives an education among those who would respect his abilities, while the mother would have another reason to flaunt her status."
The last few words definitely contained a grating tone of disapproval.
Then, Itzal bolts for the door. Bralin quickly scans the area, notes the absence of both Arminas and Harvest from the inside of the house, and nods. "Aye," he answers Malgant sourly. "She is."
Davros Thursday July 19th, 2007 10:16:29 PM
As Davros finishes his stories, he switches to light conversation with the lingering guests. Enjoying a pastry with some wine, Davros notices Itzal run up the stairs. Oh well, leave it to adventurers to ruin a party... Suspecting Harvest may have something to do with this, and familiar now with Itzal's temperament, Davros waits for the show to start.
Florin Jadenth Thursday July 19th, 2007 11:07:01 PM
Florin doesn't like this and does his best to hold up Itzal as he tries to rush past, "Is something wrong?"
Florin looks to Ivy and whispers to her, "Remember what I said and just try and relax abit hun."
Florin moves to follow the young man now inless otherwise stopped, speaking to him and keeping his voice abit louder as he hopes to give Harvest a headsup on something is going on for one thing, "Please slow down, your going to hurt one of your guests. Now what is wrong, why the rush?"
Any Thursday July 19th, 2007 11:52:52 PM
As Itzal rushes past, Any tries to bump into him to slow his progress.
"Is something wrong? Here, I will come with you."
Any says in a loud voice, also hoping to project his voice to Harvest.
Any then stays right on his heals as they ascend the stairs.
DM Kathy Friday July 20th, 2007 1:47:04 AM Desolute's lady gives her name as Phaedra, and seems to enjoy his advances. Unfortunately, Itzal's exit puts a damper on the pleasant scene. Desolute tries to trip the young mage, but he is out of position and can't reach Itzal's path in time. [Itzal ran past Florin and Any, but you really didn't have an opportunity to trip him.]
Outside, Arminas begins messing with the party-goers as they leave. The older couple he "warns" looks at him with alarm, then exchange uncertain glances. "Wha--night prowlers?" asks the man. "What do you mean, friend?"
Seeing Itzal's hasty departure, Lorth, Maglant, Bralin, and Davros seem content to simply watch what happens next.
Florin attempts to intervene. "Someone has gone into my chamber!" Itzal says angrily, still rushing up the stairs. He darts a sudden glance at Florin, and at Any, who has also followed. "What do you two know about this?" he snarls. He does not stop moving when he asks his question.
Upstairs, Harvest can tell that the moderate Evocation aura comes from a large, leather-bound book sitting on the desk. The collection of faint auras emanates from one of the drawers.
She doesn't get a chance to see much more before she hears the sound of someone coming quickly up the stairs. Then she hears Itzal's voice, saying that there's someone in his room, and asking what "you two" know about it.
Harvest Friday July 20th, 2007 7:57:37 AM
Nothing.
Nothing here was amiss.
Harvest Moon walks toward the voices and steps down into the stairwell, appearing above the others. The rooms below seemed to have cleared of the party. That was good.
"Nothing seems out of the ordinary," she announces. "And yet Paladin Florin Jadenth has detected an aura of evil here. I do not think we can leave until we have done a more thorough search."
From the stairs above, she looks down at the group, in the midst of which stands the young wizard. Her eyes take the young Jerse in for but a moment. Then they move on to find the two paladins. To each she nods, a tacit acknowledgment of their abilities to hunt down this evil with unerring certainty.
Lorth Friday July 20th, 2007 8:02:06 AM
Lorth sees the commotion with Itzal and deems that Harvest must be up to something he would disapprove of. Probably poking around the rest of the house. Well they should be able to handle their own mess, he thinks. "Couldn't we just have a pleasant evening out, and just observe?", he says aloud, but mostly to himself. Lorth sighs, stands up and walks out the front door. He looks over to where Tobiasz should be and heads in that direction. If he hears Arminas scaring the guests, Lorth reassures them and offers to escort anyone who needs it.
Bralin Friday July 20th, 2007 11:49:16 AM
Bralin remains seated and reaches for another sweet.
As Lorth leaves, the dwarf motions for Davros and Malgant to remain with him. "Tis a matter for diplomats," he remarks. "There is no physical danger, and I have no gift for words."
Bralin eats and observes.
Any d20+7=10 Friday July 20th, 2007 1:28:24 PM
Any stands next to the young magician, staring up at Harvest who has made no secret of her actions. Looking at Itzal, he says:
"You must forgive her, she has no tolerance for evil. Perhaps your friend can come out and we can discuss this. I'm sure no harm is meant."

Desolute Friday July 20th, 2007 4:30:17 PM
"Phaedra, what a beautiful name. The only way it could sound more pleasant is if it's said by your wonderful red lips." Desolute has no chance of cutting off Itzal, so he goes about his business thinking these guys need someone a tad more stealthy if they want to get nosey in someone elses house. "Phaedra, please tell me how I may contact you after tonight, so that I may call upon you sometime for, uh, refrshments, yes?" Desolute seduces the woman in the hopes of a very early morning stroll, but his curiosity for the moment is rather distracting as well. Decisions, decisions. Does his professional curiosity outweigh his carnal instincts? We shall soon see.
Arminas Friday July 20th, 2007 7:51:10 PM
Arminas turns to the man, and says:
"In truth, it is difficult to know if they prowl tonight. Darkness is their friend. Good sense tells one to be safely at home before dark, yet it seems these affairs cause normally sensible people to make foolish decisions. We have recently fought brigands, Dragon spawn and giant insects in this region. Though I forget, we are guests of a mighty wizard, I am sure nothing will molest you. Like I said, safe travels to you."
Then Arminas hears the voices in the house. Rolling his eyes, he steps through the door and looks toward the stairs.
Davros Friday July 20th, 2007 11:09:35 PM
"Well, Bralin while I find myself irritated at not being considered one of the "diplomats", I can't object to joining you for another bite to eat. I don't believe Itzal is very fond of me at the moment and my presence may simply serve to annoy him further."
Sitting down next to Bralin and Malgant, Davros grabs another sweet and finishes it off with his glass of wine.
Malgant Saturday July 21st, 2007 2:45:51 AM
" You both know she is in the wrong, am I correct? We were invited to a party. As guests. Not as witch hunters, evil eradicators, or snoops. We have no right seeking about the home of another or going where we are not meant to be. Honestly, are we better because we can stop dead the blood of a person and freeze them in place, or fight a dozen men to a standstill, or blow the wings of a dragon with spells? I say no. Because of those skills, hard won though they may be we are more responsible than ever to be sure that we do the right thing and uphold the law and custom of the land unless it be tyranical and in need of a change. I saw no such behavior before the council a few days ago and I saw nothing in the council's demeanor to suggest that theirs was an unjust or tyranical rule. Should the lad wish to take legal action he would be within his rights." Malgant says this privately to Bralin and Davros. He begins to rethink his affiliation with the Swords. He knows they are on the side of Good, that is without question, but the rights of others need not be trampled to find the greater good. He remains by Bralin and Davros' side to see how this develops.

DM Kathy Monday July 23rd, 2007 12:37:14 AM
The older couple blinks at Arminas, clearly not knowing what to make of him. Again, they exchange uneasy glances, then the woman seems to make up her mind. "Let's go, Horace," she says decicively. "The boy's talking nonsense." The couple hurries away, but they can't seem to help looking all about them as they go.
"Oh, what a charmer!" Phaedra says, smiling at Desolute. "You sweep a girl off her feet, I must say." Her lashes flick coyly downwards. "I'm not sure I trust myself with you," she says.
After some persuading, though, she tells Desolute where she lives.
Itzal continues up the stairs, brushing aside Any's attempt at diplomacy. He rushes to the door of his chamber, yanks it open, and looks around inside. Turning, he glares at Harvest. "You had no right to go in here!" he shouts. "How dare you!"
Itzal's voice is not quiet. By now all the guests are staring up the stairs.
"Itzal, my love," says his mother, climbing the stairs after him, "please don't shout. You embarrass our guests." She turns, looking at Harvest and Any, then flicking her gaze to where Bralin, Davros, Florin, and Maglant watch. "My son is very upset," she says, dignified. "Perhaps it would be best if you all left. Immediately."
Although her voice is still cultured and polite, there is no doubt she is ordering you out.
"Lucarinda," she adds, "please fetch the adventurers' wraps. They are leaving."
Lorth Monday July 23rd, 2007 7:34:57 AM
Lorth crosses the yard to where Tobiasz is standing. "Hey friend, another boring night for you eh?", he says. He then mounts up and waits for his friends to inevitably be thrown out the door. Lorth has troubled thoughts... Harvest's actions have bothered him greatly, the Jerse's are law abiding citizens. The members of the Swords of Light have no right to take the law into their own hands to search the premises. As far as they know Itzal is a spoiled rottern boy with social problems, he has no evil aura. This certainly doesn't justify searching someone's private quarters. Are we to ride around the land and search every awkward teenagers belongings?
Bralin Monday July 23rd, 2007 10:39:53 AM
Bralin patiently listens to Malgant's speech.
"Harvest is young," he offers neutrally, "and thus suffers from a conviction to ideals common to youth. Consequences of action are considered irrelavnt." The dwarf gives the taur and appraising eye. "Tis common for the young to leap to conclusions."
"This group is rarely of one mind. We will address Harvest's actions at an opportune time. Tis done, and bickering among ourselves, within hearing of all, will not undo it."
Hearing the mother, Bralin rises. "Now, we depart." Having retained his cloak, the warrior has no need to wait for Lucarinda. Nodding slightly to the matron and her son, he leaves.
Harvest Monday July 23rd, 2007 11:58:06 AM
"I apologize for upsetting you," Harvest Moon inclines her head to both Itzal Jerse and to his mother as well. "But I must repeat that Paladin Florin Jandeth has detected the presence of Evil within your home. Such things are not mistaken."
She stands unmoving upon the stairs as the others make as to leave.
"There is danger here," she calls out to the others. "You are in danger," she adds to the Jerse family.
Florin Jadenth Monday July 23rd, 2007 3:02:02 PM
Florin looks to his friends, the Jerse's and then to Harvest and speaks gently to her, "Let us go Harvest. We have been asked to leave." Florin looks to the mother since she seems to be of more sound mind and understanding, "She speaks truth, I felt something was odd so used my ability as a paladin and sensed evil upstairs of your home. I, Harvest and I would assume others of the Swords worry about you, your family and quests. The means Harvest used might not of been the most diplomatic and such but you can not expect ones such as us to just turn a blind eye to such things and not act upon them. Come what may now, you been told, your guests have been warned and now Madam, paladin like or not I take my leave of your home. I did what was expected of me from my god, a god who believes in protecting those who can not do it for themselves. As a old saying goes. You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make it drink."
Florin turns on his heel and moves towards the door and out depending one what happens, giving a loud whistle for Ajax to come to him. He also looks to Ivy and holds out his arm for her, "I will give you a ride home if you like my dear."
Florin looks to Malgant and smiles to him also as he speaks to his friend while at the door, "I seen your dislike of some of the actions. Not saying right or wrong but you must admit the heart was in the right place you know. We must look at the good and the bad of all decisions and go with the one we personally think is right for the time." Florin smiles for he went with his gut and used his detect evil, then went with his gut and instincts and told the members of the group that he could tell.
Florin looks towards Lorth and thinks before leaning his head to the side and pondering some, "Lorth? may I speak to you later. Say we get a drink later, I think we should as a group." Florin looks to his friend, he had gotten along well with Lorth but he feels right now that his paladin friend is troubled over things and wishes to talk to him and the others later.
Malgant Monday July 23rd, 2007 4:30:23 PM
Malgant waits for his cloak, and takes his leave. He ponders why speaking quietly to the two or three friends around him is considered bickering in front of others. He shrugs and thanks the young woman for his cloak and steps outside to await the rest of the Swords of Light. A discussion back at the Inn in private is in order as Florin suggests, though a drink after the nights libations maynot be prudent.
Desolute Monday July 23rd, 2007 5:16:35 PM
"Ah Phaedra, I must admit, I don't trust myself around you much either. Please explain to me why a woman with so much to offer has come to an event unescorted? I'm not going to have some sergeant major of Dirt City elite forces after me for spending time with his lady, will I? I really can not afford such distinctions." Then the commotion that was bound to occur, happens. He hears Harvest's plea for people to be wary of evil there. Desolute smiles to himself while thinking I can't believe the Paladin only noticed one evil entity at a nobles party. Perhaps Nobles are not the scum bag hum drums I thought them earlier. Phaedra's pleasant enough anyway. "What would you like to do my beauty? The party although winding down continues to some degree, or we can take a walk? If tonight is not convenient for you, we can become better acquainted at a later date?" Desolute appears the gallant gentleman, allowing the lady her choice for the evening's course. Although he would have no problems if she wanted to end it now or in the morning, he would like to catch up with the hero's before their next excursion.
Harvest (2nd Post) Monday July 23rd, 2007 5:59:01 PM
Harvest Moon turns a puzzled look upon the elfish Paladin, Florin Jandeth.
"You do not have faith in what Domi has shown you in this house, Florin Jandeth?" she asks. Then she raises her voice to those left within the room. "People cannot be protected all of their lives. At some point they must take charge of themselves, be free to come to the harm that life brings to all at one time or another. If they are not allowed this, then they become prisoners of their own security."
"I understand this. But we have two paladins here, both gifted by their gods to see what is evil in order to protect what is good, and yet you would leave these people with a lingering evil without even taking the effort to look one last time?"
"Minotaur Malgant, you aspire to be a Protector of Domi. Would you not wish to ascertain the safety of your charge before leaving? It is a simple thing, and it is not an invasion as all that is seen is the evil."
Davros Monday July 23rd, 2007 9:01:45 PM
"Easy, Harvest. A paladin's role is not to stamp out every last source of evil that chance should bring them to. Surely you understand the balance of life better than that. Such a task is impossible, not always welcomed, and if succesful, what then of the Wold? The others are right, it is time to leave and we may discuss these events later."
"Madam Jerse, My sincere apologies for any disruption to your party. But know this: your son traffics in magics he does not understand, and may one day consume not only himself but your entire family. I recommend you seek counsel with the mages at his school and let common sense prevail where my own advice has failed."
"Itzal, my offer to help you still stands. You may reach me at the Inn in Jarlwolf. I hope you consider this strongly and intelligently."
Davros takes his leave and waits outside. When the others are prepared to go, he conjures a magical horse for the ride back to Jarlwolf.
Any - sub by Kelly Monday July 23rd, 2007 10:56:17 PM
Any looks at Harvest with understanding in his eyes. It seems the group has deserted her at the moment.
"Come Harvest, it seems the others will not help. Without the paladins, I do not know a way to find the truth. Itzal, will you not have your friend come out and speak with us? There is nothing to fear, I promise we only seek understanding."
Motioning for Harvest, Any waits to leave with her by his side.
Arminas Monday July 23rd, 2007 11:03:26 PM
Finally, the Swords of Light are ready to leave, though the circumstances are not what he expected.
"This is why I hate gatherings, it seems like there is always misunderstandings. Much better to go and speak with squirrels and foxes. Much easier to understand, at least once you grasp the language."
Arminas is ready to travel, but climbs the tree and retrieves the gear that was stored there.
DM Kathy Tuesday July 24th, 2007 12:39:49 AM Lorth, Bralin, and Maglant decamp immediately, to be joined outside by Arminas. They find the party's gear just as they left it.
Desolute continues to woo Phaedra, who sniffs a little at the mention of Dirt City. "Dirt City?" she repeats. "Do I look like a goblin to you? I fear you may have lost your gift for flattery, sir." There is, nevertheless, a coquettish lilt to her tone that suggests she might be brought around at a later date. In the meantime, Desolute knows where she can be found.
Florin and Harvest attempt one last warning to the household. Mistress Jerse draws herself up even taller. "I thank you for your concern," she says icily, "but I assure you we are more than capable of dealing with any unwelcome intruders who may threaten the calm of our household. Our manservants all have good, solid cudgels and know how to use them--should the situation call for it." She turns to the other guests with a tight-lipped smile. "So pray, do not concern yourselves. We will allow no harm to come to our guests."
Any, knowing a hopeless situation when he sees one, tries to get Harvest to come away with him. Florin is already leaving, the faithful Ivy by his side.
Davros also makes one final attempt to be heard. "The mages at his school," Mistress Jerse replies, "have given him top marks. Like so many others, you simply do not understand my son's genius. I assure you he is in no danger."
Outside, the night is clear and chill. The glowing balls have gone, but more prosaic torches burn every few feet, illuminating the path and making it reasonably safe to travel. Your horses are a little sleepy at this hour, but willing enough to be ridden so long as they are headed for their stables.
Lorth Tuesday July 24th, 2007 8:02:40 AM
Lorth rides along with his friends, he looks at the ground and lets Tobiasz just follow the other horses along. After a moment he speaks, "Let me try and explain something to you, I am a paladin, the two things my order values most is good and law. Breaking into someones private dwelling without proof of wrongdoing is breaking the law, I cannot support anyone in this, no matter what you suspect lies on the other side. We have no proof that Itzal is in league with something evil, just that he is a spoiled brat and that isn't against the law. Yes, there is something evil in the house, and I would be the first to root it out, if the Jerses gave us permission. However we did not have that permission. Perhaps you should of informed the Jerses that something evil was in their house before you broke into their private quarters? Then perhaps they would of been more receptive to you searching it." He then looks to Florin, "Florin I am no expert of Domi, but I thought that he also required his paladins to follow the law, perhaps I am mistaken. Putting law to the side because the ends justify the means is not acceptable to a paladin order, I am suprised Domi allows this. We do not go with gut feelings, we follow the law and do good. You my friend stray to a neutral path, certainly not lawful."
Harvest Tuesday July 24th, 2007 9:17:35 AM
Harvest Moon rides silently upon Fyrda on the short return trip to Jarlwolf. There are many things to think of, and not all of them are of this night. She rides silent still, listening as Lorth addresses the group. She rides in silence until he has his say.
"If you wish to speak of me, Paladin Lorth, then please do so as I am the one who you accuse of breaking in, is that not true?" Her words are bitter, but with the bitterness is also a trace of sorrow. "Wisdom would caution you to have greater patience and learn of the entire story before using such words as 'breaking in'. You would have discovered that I had informed the entire kitchen staff that I was going above. You would also have discovered that I was lead upstairs by the maid servant, Lucarinda, who showed me each room herself. It is only the door to the room of Itzal Jerse that I myself opened as I feared for Lucarinda's safety. Even then, it was not locked. There was no breaking necessary."
"Further, and more important, I think your words to Paladin Florin Jandeth are an insult and show an even greater lack of wisdom. You confuse the Law with the Law of the Land. In the Contested Kingdoms where I am from, the Law of the Land is the word of the nearest one to claim right over the territory by force of arms. This law is self-interested and rarely just. In the Emerald Kingdom, Parnoth's word is the Law of the Land, and yet you came with us and became a criminal under Parnoth's decrees."
"I have been taught that a Paladin's word is the Law, and I have faith that Domi grants Paladin Florin Jandeth his wisdom and his justice. I have faith that Paladin Florin speaks with Domi's voice."
"I would not have acted as I did otherwise."
The small brown girl lapses, once again, into silence. Her eyes stray in the moonlight to the hills and shadowed vales of Athos' face. Inside, she feels her heart as it tears in twain.
Any - sub by Kelly Tuesday July 24th, 2007 10:09:24 AM
Any rides along side Harvest, his shoulders are tense as Lorth scoulds the group for Harvest's actions. He opens his mouth, ready to defend her actions, when Harvest does just that.
A large smile comes upon his face as he turns and looks at Lorth.
"She is right of course, I ride will a fugitive from the law. Someone lawfully imprisoned in the Emerald Kingdom, yet escaped merely because the sentence seemed difficult to bear."
Any starts to hum:
"When danger reared its ugly head, he quickly turned his tail and fled ..."
Looking about, he adds:
"Hmmm, it is late. I think I am borrowing someone elses tune. Later I must compose a ballad of our adventures. The stories must be remembered, or how else do we learn?"
Arminas Tuesday July 24th, 2007 10:25:27 AM
Arminas rides along on Darkfire, glad to be on the open road. Unfortunately, the difficulties inherent in large gatherings has has crept into his group and followed him along the road. Lorth's scolding is too much.
"Lorth, it is no secret that we do not agree much on how one should live. Is it not true though, that it is difficult to impose your beliefs on others? Do not berate Harvest for doing what she felt was right. She has proven her heart is pure, that is all one can hope for in a friend and companion."
Then he adds:
"Do not worry about being a fugitive from the law. Parnoth's laws are tyranical .... as are all laws that restrict my freedoms."
Bralin Tuesday July 24th, 2007 3:14:07 PM
Bralin rides in the rear of the group, pacing Malgant. As Lorth lectures all with a wide brush, and Harvest has her retort, the dwarf cathces the eye of the taur, and shrugs.
He chimes in, his voice calm and reasonable.
"Lorth, ye must acknowledge your personal standard of what is lawful is highly placed. I have never met your equal in that regard."
"But I must agree, Harvest, that your actions were precipitous."
Bralin doesn't wait for the expected rebuttal, and plows on in his ususal professional tone.
"My objection is tactical. Consider, tis reasonable to believe the boy's advancement and the evil Florin detected are related. If true, the situation inside the home has existed for some time, and was likely to continue unabated for some time to come. As no one was injured in the past, none at the party were in immediate danger. The evil was dormant, presumably biding its time and growing the boy's power. Now, we have prematurely alerted all that we are aware of it."
"Tis likely we have accomplished little tonight but antagonize the innocent, and forewarn the guilty."
Florin Jadenth Tuesday July 24th, 2007 3:54:01 PM
Florin rides along with his friends and listens to what is said before easing his horse back, "I will exsourt Ivy home and cetch up with you all at the Inn." Florin nudges Ajax and pats Ivy's arm which should be around his waist as he was going to give her a lift home too.
As he moves to go pass Lorth he slows his horse down and looks to his friend, "Domi gave me the ability to sense evil and smite it. I did nothing more then sense and alert my friends of it for their judgement. An I trust the group and their actions, I can not fight along side all of you if I did not trust you with my life. To me what I did was like me alerting the guards of someone evil so they could be watched and then the guards do as they see fit. I myself would most likly keep a eye on the person too considering if I could stop someone from being hurt or killed then I did my job as a paladin...if that was wrong my friend then Domi should never of given me the gift to find evil and expect me to try and stop it. I do what I can to keep evil from growing and doing worse things then it may have already done..."
Florin looks to Bralin and nods to him, "I agree with your comments Bralin and will also add that we did do something else. The evil will do something now that we brought attention to it and to ourselves and we know it will act through the young wizard without a doubt. Not to mention we made the kid upset which wasn't hard to begin with, he will act and he will use whatever is in there for his aid. Thats why I told Harvest we should go other then the fact that we would just ended up having to fight innocent people. The Lady's guards would of lept at her command at then we would of had to defend outselves against people who have nothing to do with what is going on."
Florin rides off now with Ivy to take her home, he sighs abit and touches the handle of his sword that rests over the saddle horn and then looks back to the road.
Malgant Tuesday July 24th, 2007 5:39:01 PM
Before Florin can ride off Malgant adds his rather deep and even voice to the discussion. He speaks forcefully and you get the impression he has thought about his words while the rest have been bickering about blame. "Before you go Florin, might I suggest that you leave some sort of protection with Lady Ivy once you reach her home. The rest of us may wish to take some precautions as well. Let me describe what I saw tonight and add my perspective to it. We were invited to a social event by a woman who is extreemly self conscious about how others see her and her family. We were invited because Anthos won the bard competition and the rest of you saved some children, which is an exploit I have yet to hear in its entirety. We were marks of prestige, and our being there to congratulate Itzal was a feather in his mothers cap. We met Itzal, from what I saw and heard, an unpopular boy, spoiled and owning less social grace than a dwarf with an active case of hemroids and food poisoning both at the same time. He was snubed and somehow, I am not sure how, made the person who snubbed him pay through embarassment. Seeing this Florin looked for a source of the slight with all of the powers at his disposal, both noble and in my eyes quite correct. Finding a source of evil in the house he also warned the rest of us, lest it decide that the shadows were not to its liking anymore and more than mischief were on its mind, also the correct thing to do by my reckoning. We then went into ultra paranoid mode because in most if not all of our experiences a source of evil is a sure sign that we are about to be molested in some way, I know that is true in at least my case. This paranoia led us to make some unfortunate choices. I know that Bralin saw some magical auras and tracked them relentlessly through the party, subtlely, and I followed his lead, likely less subtlely, and we found naught but Arminas at the end of that road. Harvest, while you may not have 'broken' into any rooms in the house, would you have listened to the servants if they had said that you shouldn't go upstairs? I have seen you set your mind on a thing, and I doubt that an appearance of Domi himself telling you it was a bad idea would have been enough to deter you. I would assume the servants were told to 'accomodate' the needs of their guests tonight and even though they knew that they were to keep all of the guests in the party area proper they were not going to risk the fire and brimstone of their mistress by not showing a curious guest the rest of the house if that guest were persistant." " The rest was plain, at least to me. We are now thought of as fools by the majority of the nobles in the area, and that view is being strongly reinforced right now to any that choose to listen to Lady Jerse. Itzal, a boy that by all discription is vengeful and at least moderately powerful as a mage has the opinion that we intentionally tried to ruin his party and belittle his powers. If the source of the evil is his mentor, which I agree is likely, Itzal will want revenge. However we are adventurers. We are the hard targets. Would it not be easier to seek that revenge on someone dear to us, but far less protected? Forgive me Ivy, I do not want to upset you, or put you ill at ease, but these are what I see to be hard facts. You are quite likely in danger due to our antics tonight. I include all of us in that term of 'Our'. Any one of us could have thrown the brakes on the runaway searching of the house, but didn't. Now, I fear we are on the defensive, rather than on the offensive. But that is the path I aspire to, so be it." " Further you berate Lorth for standing down when Lady Jerse became incensed at Harvest's snooping. Lorth was obeying the laws of the land. I saw no peasants uprising at the council meeting of the Pitchfork Council. You were working most recently for those council members. Because of that I have no reason to believe that their laws are not just. If they were, the Swords of Light would be working to overthrow the council rather than working with it." " What's done is done. Could it have gone better? Surely. Are we planning on letting this go and allowing Itzal to become a petty tyrant wielding great power with little compassion or caring for those around him? From what I hear from the rest of you, Certainly not. What we need now is a plan of defense. We can be certain that someone as petty as Itzal will do something, our job is to make that something survivable for everyone it can hurt, not just ourselves. I prayed for mostly informational and defensive spells this day, so I am prepared to stand against Itzal's next move." Turning to Bralin, " What do you propose we do next Bralin?" Malgant has now stopped in the road and waits for the Dwarf's response. He feels naked without his armor and sword, but stands sure that he has said the right thing. Assigning blame now will only lead to squabbling and give Itzal the edge. They gained some information tonight and they need to use what they know to protect the people of this area.

Desolute smirks at his faupaux in words and shrugs off his mistake, "Of course not my lady. The implication was in regard to whatever fool would leave a such a voluptuous woman alone on night like this."
Desolute continues to pay attention Phaedra but concentrates on Itzal and his mother. he will attempt to listen in on their conversation or perhaps a plan for revenge if they have one. Itzal said they would pay. If only I can figure out how he intends to do so. Failing miserably, Desolute thinks of another plan.
Dang it, I need to get closer to them! "Pardon me Phaedra, I must excuse myself for a short time. I shall return to your warm side soon though."
Desolute maneuvers his way through the part to try and get another listen check in, next post.

Lorth (2nd illegal post) Tuesday July 24th, 2007 6:21:47 PM
Lorth turns to Harvest and gives her and incredulous look, "We are both intelligent adults Harvest, please don't insult me by saying you had the permission of the servants. All of us know that the servants where most likely instructed to try and help us in anyway. You didn't seek permission of the owners of the home and we both know why. Secondly, I don't confuse the law and the law of the land. The law in this land is held by the pitchfork council, I would like to believe that they are just and goodly, therefore we must follow their laws. Do you believe that our group is above the law? I certainly do not, for that is the path of a tyrant. Furthermore, In Parnoth's land the laws are tyranical and unjust as was our sentence and incarceration and you know quite well that we all stand against that, here it is quite the opposite."
(OOC: Guys, I just want to throw this out there, please take none of this personally. Obviously I am lawful good and a paladin to boot. It is quite difficult to run with a mostly chaotic party. It is much easier when we are out in the wilderness or battling evil and the lines are black and white :)
As per the rules... Lawful characters tell the truth, keep their word, respect authority, honor tradition, and judge those who fall short of their duties.
Chaotic characters follow their consciences, resent being told what to do, favor new ideas over tradition, and do what they promise if they feel like it.
"Law" implies honor, trustworthiness, obedience to authority, and reliability. On the downside, lawfulness can include close-mindedness, reactionary adherence to tradition, judgmentalness, and a lack of adaptability. Those who consciously promote lawfulness say that only lawful behavior creates a society in which people can depend on each other and make the right decisions in full confidence that others will act as they should.
"Chaos" implies freedom, adaptability, and flexibility. On the downside, chaos can include recklessness, resentment toward legitimate authority, arbitrary actions, and irresponsibility. Those who promote chaotic behavior say that only unfettered personal freedom allows people to express themselves fully and lets society benefit from the potential that its individuals have within them.)
Harvest (2nd Illegal Post) Tuesday July 24th, 2007 8:40:52 PM
A dark look comes over Harvest Moon's face.
"You are implying, Paladin Lorth, that there is dishonesty to my motives?" she asks. "Beware your words."
"If you defer to the Laws of the Pitchfork Council, then why is it that you usurp their words and speak as though you have their minds? If you question my actions in the name of the Pitchfork Council then we must go to them tomorrow and ask for their judgement."
"And if you not only knew that there was evil upstairs, but that it may have been a creature that influences Itzal Jerse, I do not understand why you did not immediately seek it out. It is evil growing its strength among the innocent. I do not understand where a tactical advantage might be gained from ignoring such."
Malgant's words are many, and it is difficult to understand how he comes to know many of the things that he says. Many also appear ... unfounded. Harvest says nothing in reply to them.
Lorth (3rd illegal post) Tuesday July 24th, 2007 9:02:22 PM
Again to Harvest, "Certainly there is no dishonesty in your motive, your motive was to seek out evil, how could that be dishonest? Your methods where troubling. As for why I didn't charge up the stairs to seek out this slight evil. Because I am not a soldier or guardsman of this area, I have no right to invade someones private abode because I think there is something amiss. I've said as much before, I don't know how to say it more plainly. We haven't the right it is as simple as that. As for going to the Council, go to them if you like, ask them if it is ok for you to take initiative and invade someones private property when you feel like it. I don't need to, I know the answer. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jerse's don't file a complaint with the them anyway and you find out."
Arminas - 2nd illegal post Tuesday July 24th, 2007 9:23:40 PM
Arminas can't help to be drawn into Lorth's words:
"Lorth, so you do not deny that if you feel a law unjust then it is alright to disobey such a law? Such is the statement you made regarding Parnoth's laws. You my friend are a proponent of chaos. I have a new found respect for you my chaotic brother."
Davros Tuesday July 24th, 2007 10:44:05 PM
Davros weighs many thoughts and ponders the conversation and the events before speaking.
"Harvest, opening that door was more likely a breach of etiquette as opposed to an unlawful act. However, it was very foolish of you. Itzal does not apper to be an accomplished mage, but even simple magics can hold great peril for those who are unprepared. And there is the matter of Itzal's 'friend'. I suspect the creature may be from the Abyss itself. And if so may possess terrible powers. You were all alone."
"There can be no doubt that evil gains strength in that house. I am not even entirely convinced that Mistress jerse herself does not promote it to increase her social standing. Harvest's minor transgression must be set aside, for we as a group must determine a course of action now. What should we do? There is also the matter of implied revenge. We should be wary this night, and maybe for many to come."
"As for our reputations, I wouldn't worry. Most of the nobles who show up for such parties are disappointed if nothing embarassing happens. It gives them something to gossip about and hold over one another. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them thanked us for the entertainment."there could then be many parties in our future...
While traveling, Davros happily relates the story, or what he knows of it, about saving the children and the group's thankfully short but tragic visit to Koshe-Marr. Hopefully it will break some tension...

DM Kathy Wednesday July 25th, 2007 4:31:43 AM
You have much to discuss as you head back to Jarlwolf. Ivy looks a little alarmed at some of the talk, but seems to have faith that Florin will protect her.
As for the Swords of Light, it is clear they have differing opinions about what should have happened tonight...
[OOC: I could pretend I'm giving you a short DM post so that you could continue roleplaying, but the truth is I'm up way too late and ready to go to sleep. :) Do continue your discussion, though; you've got some great roleplaying going on.]
Lorth Wednesday July 25th, 2007 7:40:51 AM
Lorth gives Arminas a resigned look, "Again, unjust and tyrannical law is something none of us would obey. You can call it what you like, however that is not how I see it. Struggle against tyranny is just, lawful and good. The fact is that the laws here are not unjust and tyrannical, therefore they must be followed."
Lorth sighs,"It is easy to pick apart my words while ignoring what I am trying to say. I could do the same to you if you where trying to express a point. In the end I'm sure nothing I say will change any of your attitudes and we will all continue to follow what we think is the correct course of action. Certainly we are all good people and most of the time that is all that matters."
Lorth is saddened he cannot make his friends see his point of view. He decides that he will make penance for them on the morrow. He rides in silence the rest of the way back to town, along Tobiasz to pick the pace.
Bralin Wednesday July 25th, 2007 10:39:19 AM
Bralin is still unperturbed by the questions and accusations flung about. He diligently sticks with answering questions specifically asked of him.
"The tactical advantage, Harvest, lied in choosing the time and place for confrontation. If you are aware of your opponent while they are unaware of you, you have the advantage. One should not immediately start a fire without first ascertaining it will not spread. Our battles always involve sufficient magics to bring down the Jerze's home."
The dwarf then turns to Malgant. "Our supposition is the entity lacked sufficient power to act. Tis unlikely it will gain that power tonight. We should have time to resolve our internal differences 'ere requiring a course of action. I say return to the inn, and wait. Tis doubtful the Jerze's reaction to tonight's events will manifest as a physical confrontation."
Harvest Wednesday July 25th, 2007 11:23:39 AM
A mounting alarm grows upon Harvest Moon's face.
"Tell me more of the friend of Itzal Jerse," she asks of Davros Sapphiredge. "I had not heard of this until you spoke of it. If the truth of this is even half as dire as the things of which you speak then we must return immediately!"
"Paladin Florin!" Harvest calls after the departing couple. "If there is danger you should not go alone!"
"Paladin Lorth, if you believe that an invasion of privacy lacks in lawfulness then I ask you how such a lack would compare against the harboring of an Abyssal creature? Which is the greater breach and which should hold preeminence over the other."
"You, as Florin Jandeth, are a paladin, and I hold you in the same esteem as he as a arbiter of the law in the name of Gargul. Upon your word we may ride back and see to this threat now. If you cede your authority to the law of the Pitchfork Council, then we must ride now to Madame Dulcet. There we may gain her judgment and her leave to act."
"You are a Paladin, Lorth Jeradosta, the decision falls to you."
Lorth Wednesday July 25th, 2007 12:37:59 PM
Lorth listens to Harvest speak, then answers slowly, "Obviously I see your point, taking time to follow the law may cause more harm than rooting out the evil now. I however must follow the law. I suggest this. I will ride ahead to Dulcet and explain what we have found, asking for permission to act in the council's name to investigate and rid the land of this evil. I will then return as quick as possible. The rest of you can watch the Jerse's home, to be sure this evil doesn't leave or spread. However, I am of course open to other courses of action, if anyone has better ideas."
Lorth smiles with his attempt to assuage everyone present, "With everyones ok, I will be off."

Excusing himself to the restroom, Desolute actually starts working. Casing the place if you will. He wants to notice every nook, cranny or object that allows shadow to occur, a place to hide, or a place to hide something. He tries to position himself in a place near the stairs where he can hear the Jerse's conversation, whatever that might be. If someone comes near him this time, he will send them away using what diplomacy he can manage. If Itzal sees him, all the better. If he can get on Itzal's good side, maybe the punk will confide in the half orc and perhaps "hire" him for some work against the adventurers. Desolute would never choose the side of evil again, but he knows how it works and he knows how to fit in around it. Perhaps his past was preplanned by the gods, there to help those in the future?

Harvest Wednesday July 25th, 2007 3:49:09 PM
Fyrda tosses her head and trots in a circle beneath Harvest, testament to the roiling emotions in the girl upon her back.
"That is not my point, Paladin Lorth. The point of which I speak is that sometimes greater laws must take precedence over smaller ones."
The brown girl, with a dark frown upon her face, reviews her words.
"You thought that I was speaking with a double meaning, did you not?. You think in a very twisted manner. No. If we must get authority from Madame Dulcet then we must. But if matters are dire then I do not think she would wish us to wait until morning. She would wish us to waken her for it is her duty as well."
Davros Wednesday July 25th, 2007 4:24:33 PM
"I don't think matters are so dire that they require immediate action. This is a noble family we are dealing with. Any major misstep on our part could find us being asked to leave the area by the Pitchfork Council. There is time to discuss this. I believe that in addition to informing the council, the wizard school in Rowena should also be contacted. This matter could very well be for the local and school authorities to handle."
"As for the matter of the 'creature', I suspect Itzal has acquired himself a special familiar. Some wizards acquire small creatures of the Abyss called imps to serve them. It usually takes a strong will to control them however and Itzal may be lacking. I don't think there is any immediate danger, since this situation may have been going on for some time. The creature is also likely the reason for Itzal's improved fortunes at the school."
"Going directly back would be a mistake. Bralin is correct, if we do end up confronting such a creature, we should prepare first. I am aware they can turn invisible, which was plenty evident at the party. I also recall they have strong poison. Even though they are amongst the weakest of the creatures of the Abyss, they should not be taken lightly."
Harvest Wednesday July 25th, 2007 4:37:41 PM
Harvest turns her efforts to calming Fyrda. Normally gentle and placid, her behavior cannot but be in reflection of Harvest Moon's own. Harvest reaches forward to stroke Fyrda's neck. She whispers soft and meaningless words until the great plow horse is again calm.
"I will take your counsel, Davros Sapphiredge," she says to the wizard. Then a question occurs. "Would a familar of such a sort mean that Itzal Jerse is now Evil or is soon to become so?" asks Harvest Moon.
Malgant Wednesday July 25th, 2007 5:15:52 PM
" On the contrary Bralin. If there is an ecil in the house strong enough to be Itzal's mentor, I would guess that it just has a better sense of how to handle people than we displayed tonight. Think on this, we stood there and swore to the heavens that there was an evil in the house. If there is, and I do not doubt Florin's senses then it gains nothing by revealing itself to attack us. However if it bides its timeand watches us and listens to us, as it couldeven be doing now since it can apparently become invisible, then we are made to look the fool and it gains he edge of knowing our plans. I find it unlikely that it would come this far from its master, but it is a thought."
Any - sub by Kelly Wednesday July 25th, 2007 6:30:21 PM
Any rides along side Harvest as he tries to understand the danger.
"I believe what everyone is saying, is that we do not know the extent of the evil or danger from said evil. Harvest tried to ascertain the information by stealth. Clearly, when stealth no longer worked she stepped forward and directly questioned it. While it would have been better to determine the source of the evil this night, that is no longer an option. Not without armed confrontation. None of us know the danger, or how immediate the danger is. Lorth's suggesting to ride to seek council seems good. I for one would like to sleep on this."
Arminas Wednesday July 25th, 2007 6:36:20 PM
Arminas nods as Lorth speaks to him:
"Yes, I suppose words can be used as weapons. I used them to point out that how just a law is depends upon those who percieve it. There are those in Parnoth's realm who think he is a wise and just master. If the Pitchfork Council gives us permission to root out the evil from the Jerse household, then Itazl and his friend will think the law unjust. We are all somewhat partial to which laws we accept. We all follow our hearts, and what else is more chaotic than the heart?"
Talk of immediate action seem premature to Arminas as well.
"I do not fear retribution from the thing in the Jerse house. Perhaps this evenings events will cause it to act, thus showing itself. I say we wait."
Davros Wednesday July 25th, 2007 7:47:48 PM
"The creature is certainly evil. Whether Itzal is remains to be seen. I don't believe Lorth or Florin sensed anything about him? Regardless, the creature surely tempts him tremendously every day."
"I should mention that a familiar such as my rat and a wizard share a special magical bond. Breaking that bond will cause some harm to Itzal if the creature is suddenly killed. We must proceed with caution."
Florin Jadenth Thursday July 26th, 2007 12:25:24 AM
At the words of his friends, Florin slows before moving to far and looks to Ivy before speaking to the others, "I plan to explain the situtation to Ivy's parents and offer to spend the night there to make sure nothing happens this night. Come tomorrow I will ask favor from the temple to see a protection placed on the house to be sure of it's safty."
Florin looks towards Lorth and speaks to his friend, "Friend Lorth, I know your code and you know mine but I wish to speak one thing plainly to you so you know up front. If anything happens to Ivy or her parents and it is traced to that house without a doubt then I will not hold back on destroying the evil within it, if the law will not handle it then I will from that point. That may not sound paladin like but Ivy is to be my wife and I consider her family mine and I will not stand blindly to the harm of my family or friends. To me even a god can not ask me to place my family and friends second. I could not do what I do, protect what I protect and fight what I have to fight without them....As I said, that is not paladin like but I just wish to say that now so you know. As a friend I would hope you will understand that and still cover my back if needed for I will not stray from covering yours or any others here. Either way I'm just a mortal like all else here, I make mistakes like all others. I pray to Domi to guide me and if I make a mistake then I pray he forgives me too."
Florin looks over the group and thinks of each person before leaning his head to the side, "I would like to ask you to join me to Lorth in watching over Ivy and her parent's place tonight. Will you aid me? Malgant and Bralin should stay with the rest of the group and I think we would make a good pair to watch over the place. If you rather not because I have offended you then I will understand. Know that I did not mean to though and I respect your thoughts, your code and pray you will respect my thoughts and code too."
Florin looks to Arminas, "I think if anything happens and I and however comes along with me is needed that you should send your friend to get us. Since I can not speak to animals I will figure you need help if I see him. Will that work? I'm not sure how we will alert any of you if we need help but I'm sure we'll manage if anything happens."
Florin lastly looks to bralin and smiles to him, Florin can't help but be worried for the sturdy dwarf, "I know I don't have to say this Bralin but none the less, you watch your back and the others too. I might be worrying something will happen for no good reason but we know it's coming and thats enough to put all of us on guard."
Florin will take Ivy home once the talk is over. If Lorth prefers not to help Florin then he will as Malgant or Davros as either would be helpful in detecting anything happening around the house. Florin thinks Bralin as leader should stay with the bulk of the group though.
Florin speaks to Ivy on the way to her home, "I'm sorry for getting you into this Ivy. I didn't consider all angles back at the party. Your father was a advetuer he said. I hope he will understand when I explain this all to him and offer my services and seek help come tomorrow."
DM Kathy Thursday July 26th, 2007 12:50:12 AM
You have much to discuss on your way back to town--so much, that you aren't quite finished with your discussion when you arrive in the quiet streets of Jarlwolf proper.
Florin is concerned for Ivy's safety and would like to keep a watch at her house. He invites Lorth to join him. He does not invite anyone else by name, but probably would not turn down offers of help.
Harvest has expressed a wish to rouse Dulcet this very night and inform her of the goings-on in the Jerse household. Her companions have pointed out that that may not be prudent.
Your lodgings await you, as does Ivy's house and Mistress Dulcet's. Your horses, of course, have a very strong opinion about their preference.
[OOC clarification: The Jerse family is wealthy, and has pretentions to aristocracy, but they aren't nobles per se. Most of the guests at the party were either wealthy climbers like the Jerses, or commoners wearing their best finery and minding their manners like anything. :) ]
Lorth Thursday July 26th, 2007 8:00:56 AM
"Florin, I will of course aid you in guarding your family. I will speak to Dulcet tomorrow unless the others go to speak to her before that. I would of course also have your back if you decided it was necessary to invade the Jerse home. However I can't say I wouldn't try and talk you out of it.", Lorth smiles. Lorth moves Tobiasz to follow Florin...
Desolute Thursday July 26th, 2007 11:25:20 AM
Not getting anywhere, the half orc goes back to find Phaedra. "Care to take a moonlight stroll around the grounds with me?" He will walk her around the outside of the house and along the perimeter as he cases the outside as well, looking for hiding places for himself, or perhaps others. He wants to get a look at the windows and possibly other entrances. He will use the house as a diversion to ask Phaedra about her's. Once he is finished, and he has an idea about patrols and such, they will find a secluded area, to get better aquainted.
Arminas Thursday July 26th, 2007 7:02:04 PM
Arminas takes Darkfire to the stable, and combs him down himself. After feeding and watering him, he goes back into the Inn to find his room.
"I for one plan to get some rest, there is much to think about this night. I'll see you at breakfast."
With that, he goes to his room.
Harvest Thursday July 26th, 2007 8:22:53 PM
Pasix? Pasix? What is the right thing to do?
No words of wisdom come to Harvest Moon. The voice of her master within her is silent.
She gives Fyrda her rein and the great plow horse makes her way back to the stable.
"I am sorry." Harvest reaches up and the old horse lowers her head to Harvest's touch. "An exciting life can be difficult. I do not know what to do." She looks in Anthos' direction. "I do not know, Fyrda." She sighs as a sleepy stableboy leads Harvest Moon's loyal mount into the stable.
"Is it a bad thing, Anthos?" Harvest links arms with her bard. "Am I a bad person? I was concerned for the guests and I wished to keep from harm, those working within the house. But for Itzal Jerse and his mother ... " Her voice trails to a silence with greater meaning than any spoken words. "They are ... It is difficult to care for them."
Harvest sighs and holds his arm.
"Shall we waken Madame Dulcet? Or should we wait until morning?"
Davros Thursday July 26th, 2007 9:58:25 PM
"I will ride with Florin and Lorth. I have a spell which may provide some small measure of protection to the family. In the morning, I will spend some time...preparing."
Davros goes to his room at the Inn and quickly retrieves his books and gear.
"Ivy, when we arrive at your home, have your family prepare sleeping arrangements for everyone in a large common room or area. My spell will protect a few rooms only. I will leave it to Florin and Lorth to set watches for the three of us, and your family may rest soundly."
Davros will cast an alarm spell in the described area at the house.
Florin Jadenth Thursday July 26th, 2007 10:36:21 PM
Florin is happy to have Lorth along and Davros also. He speaks to them and rubs Ivy's arm off and on to help comfort her of any worries as they travel to Ivy's home, "I'm glad to have you along. I understand your position Lorth and trust me, no action would come from me inless it is in my opinion prudent to act swiftly."
When he and the others arrive at Ivy's home, Florin takes the time to speak to her father first since Ivy's dad was like him and the others of the group once. He tells him of the party and what had happened, explaining his worry for Ivy and her family and telling him that he himself would rest easier if they allowed him and his friends to watch over the place till morning where as from there he would go visit the temple and ask for some assistance just incase.
Any - sub by Kelly Thursday July 26th, 2007 11:13:16 PM
Any draws Harvest close by his side, the compassion flows from him into her.
"You are a good person, the best I have ever met. Paladins have harsh judgement, and I find it is difficult to understand their code. Best to follow your heart, and let the consequences fall where they may. Come, let us rest and awake Mistress Dulcet in the morning. We are strong enough I think to withstand this evil I believe. If it comes for us, it will give us reason enough to act."
Looking at the worry in Harvest's eyes, he adds:
"I will arrange for all of us to sleep in a large room together, we will even set watch. Come, I will speak with the others."
Any then finds Arminas, Bralin and Malgant and requests that they stay in the same room.
(Arminas agrees)
DM Kathy Friday July 27th, 2007 2:07:47 AM Desolute brings Phaedra outside for a "walk in the moonlight" that is actually a reconaissance mission. He notes that the large farmhouse has a front and back door, a couple of large windows on the ground floor, and several smaller windows on the upper floors. All of the windows have shutters, which are presently open. Phaedra is a little put out by all the attention Desolute is paying to the house, and not to her. She gets a little "better acquainted" with him, then suggests that they should meet another time.
The other Swords, meanwhile, care for their animals and begin to make sleeping arrangements. Ivy's parents have themselves just returned from the party, and it's clear to see that her father is releived they'll have some protection this evening. Extra pallets are dragged into the front room to form a kind of campsite for the adventurers.
Those staying at the inn can stay together simply by moving into one person's room; there is extra space in most of the rooms.
[Not sure whether we're talking about one big group or two smaller ones, but either way, it's doable.]
The night passes uneventfully. The adventurers at Ivy's house awake to find the smaller children running about in great excitement over having visitors.
"Did you really sleep on the floor?" one curly-haired lad asks Lorth in amazement. "I wanna sleep on the floor!"
"Me too, me too!" cries his younger sister.
Another boy has picked up Florin's helmet and is trying it on. Unable to see where he's going, he knocks over a toddler, who immediately begins to howl.
The domestic commotion is soon set to rights, however, and you can ready yourselves and study your spells in (relative) calm. Outside, a mist is clinging to the ground, but the rising sun should soon see an end to it.
Lorth Friday July 27th, 2007 8:01:16 AM
Lorth smiles at the child, "Well perhaps you can have my spot next time, because I'd much rather sleep in a bed." Lorth then busies himself cleaning and putting on his gear. He is careful to fold the outfit the Jerse's lent him and puts it in his pack. Hopefully he will have a chance to return it today. On the way to the inn Lorth stops at the local temple. He places thirty platinum pieces in the poor box the prays at the altar. Gargul please send me guidance if I am in the wrong he thinks. He spends sometime reciting his prayers then leaves to meet the others.
Desolute Friday July 27th, 2007 4:36:26 PM Typical, I invite a lady out for a stroll and conversation and since it's not about her, she is offended. Desolute continues with her to a secluded location and when he gets as far as possible, he escorts the lady back to the house with a polite good night. I'm one of the best looking half orcs in this world and few are as charming, yet I still have to settle for average girls, where is the justice Pantheon? Going back inside the house, he says his good nights to the Jerse's and thanks them for the enjoyable evening. He then depats into the night. He skips off toward the inn with his thumbs tucked into his belt and a whistling tune on his lips, ready for a good nights sleep. As noticeable as the hero's are, they shouldn't be hard to find tonight or tomorrow.
Malgant Friday July 27th, 2007 5:14:16 PM
Malgant awakes at first light and unlike most mornings dons his full kit to go outside and pray. He stands still as a stone for a moment in the field, allowing his mind to clear and the events of last night to be recalled clearly. THen he lumbers into the sword dance and the thinking begins. They know that Itzal is a spoiled brat. They know he is not liked by his peers, or at least by children of his own age in this area. They know he goes to a magic school nearby.hmmm.... a school nearby.
The Sword dance stutters as Malgany begins a new train of thought. Around him the mist swirls and trails his every move, muffling the cuts his sword makes as it passes through the air. A school nearby..... I wonder what his peers at school really think of him. Do they find him spoiled and aloof like we saw last night, or are they like him? Harvest seemed a bit puzzled by the mention of a school of magic in these parts and she knows the local terrain. IS there a school there or is that not what it seems either? The sword dance goes on, bringing up more questions than it answers. When it ends, Malgant decides to try an altogether different strategy today with the Swords of light. Maybe if they let the Jerse's lie undisturbed a little while they can glean useful information at the school.
Malgant returns to the Inn and asks that breakfast be brought up to the room so that they may all confer in private. He orders platters of eggs, bacon, sausages and biscuits amd some fresh fruit as well as milk and coffee to wash it down. Thinking on Bralin's appetite last night, he orders a bit more to cover both his and the dwarf's needs. This done he mounts the stairs prepared to talk to the others about alternative means of finding things out...this could work out.
Upon entering the room Malgant tries to remain quiet while the others sleep, that is until the food arrives. When it does, and the others begin to rise he starts to tell them about his idea. " Why don't we try a different approach today? We saw last night how Itzal acts when he is among those he grew up with, why don't we go out of town and try to find this school of his? Maybe there we can talk to some of his instructors and some of his classmates and see if they can tell us more about him. Maybe they can tell us if he is as arrogant at school as he is at home. Maybe they can tell us how skilled he is in case it comes to a fight. Maybe they can tell us what to expect so that if it comes to a fight we can have the correct anti-magics ready to keep everyone concerned from getting hurt. What do you say? I know we will need to get Lorth, Florin and most of all Davros to get this done, since Davros will likely see things wrong or odd at the school we might well miss since he knows what he should see there. Then armed with more knowledge of what we are up against we can talk to the council and have more facts to present them with. Worth a try , i hink."
Davros Saturday July 28th, 2007 11:31:55 AM
In the morning, Davros finds a quiet spot and prepares his spells, He finds the children's antics amusing, reminding him of his many siblings.
Bralin Saturday July 28th, 2007 2:08:37 PM
Bralin beds down for the night with a sense of satisfaction. Again, prudence prevails and Harvest has heeded to the logic of the situation. The taciturn dwarf nods at Florin's warning, and sets up a watch schedule in the common room of the inn.
When Malgant returns from his excercises, the seasoned warrior awakes immediately. Bralin performs his standard morning prayers, and then helps himself to breakfast. As Malgant is doing quite a bit of talking, the hungry dwarf finds ample time to shovel one spoonful of porridge after another into his maw. By the time Malgant finishes speaking, Bralin is ready for the day.
"Mayhap some of us can inquire with Dulcet as well," he offers. "Her knowledge of the family and their behavior may prove crucial. Also her guidance."

Harvest Sunday July 29th, 2007 12:14:15 PM
Even with Anthos' even calming breath next to her, it is a difficult night for Harvest Moon. Action. Inaction. Can one truly ever walk the Wold and do no harm? The pale undead image of Devrin haunts her dreams.
Morning comes. In some ways it comes too soon. In others, not soon enough. Harvest spends the early morning hour sitting within the ray of sunlight that enters through an open window of the room she had shared with the others last night. Alemi, though, is a god of compassion. He is not a god of answers.
"We must see Madame Dulcet to day, Anthos," she says with calm resolution. "There is only so many roads that we may tread and remain who we are. If we are confounded when we come to laws that conflict and bind our hands from helping others, then we must cease to help others."
"Our only other choice is to ourselves become agents of the law as are Madame Dulcet and the Pitchfork Council. We must ask Madame Dulcet if such is possible."

OOC: I think Lyle will be back to post, so I will not post for him. If he doesn't, just assume he will go with Harvest to visit Dulcet.
Arminas Sunday July 29th, 2007 3:12:31 PM
Glad that the night is uneventful (aside from having to listen to a dwarf snore) and over, Arminas rises very early and goes outside. He finds Ewan perched high in a tree near the Inn.
Whistling to her, Arminas joins the eagle in a hunting trip. While Ewan soars high above, Arminas kicks the bushes to scare rabbits into the open. Soon, Ewan has made her kill and Arminas has gotten some fresh air.
He makes his way back to the Inn in time to have a bit of breakfast. Listening to suggestions, he says:
"I will go with Harvest and Anthos to visit Madam Dulcet."
