Stone Gap village

DM George
Thursday June 28th, 2007 8:01:15 PM

OOC Sorry for the early post but my modem keeps acting up and not sure when it will stop working again. Thanks Nellie for the help.

The group settles down for the rest of the night. Jacob looks upset but remembers that this group is going to tackle a dragon and a young sheppard probably wouldn't stand much of a chance.

Beth settles down next to Bin and says, "Oh Jacob is alright. He is only scared is all. He told me where he advised you to camp and now he feels responsible for me. How would he explain it to Dad if I got hurt. He still thinks of me as a six year old."

She pauses for a couple of seconds and then looks Bin in the eye. "I know that my marriage is arranged and I really don't mind that. With so few people in the village, this arrangements have to be worked out. Mom and Dad's marriage was arranged and they were happy until she died. Paul is a good man and not that much older than me. What has me bothered the most is having to be heartseeded to get married. I don't suppose you can perform the ceremony? I don't want to leave the village. We have all worked hard to make it home."

Morning comes and Sunshine again raises her hackles and lets out a growl. The group rise up to see a lone human walking towards them. He is carrying a bow and seems to be scanning the ground. When he looks up, you can see that it is one of the elders from the village. The one you talked to and the father to the two nightly visitors. (John)

He sees his children and hurries into the camp and crushes Beth to his chest. "What are you thinking? Wandering away at night. These areas are dangerous! Jacob, you should know better!"

He looks over to Angus and says, "I am sorry if they bothered you. I didn't raise them to act this way. I will bring them home and let you get on with your hunt."

Bin (First illegal post)
Thursday June 28th, 2007 8:44:05 PM

Bin has never had so much exciement out in the middle of nowhere before. He is glad to see the father arrive and explains to him the behavior of his son, and the need to make sure he didn't run off into the night with his little sister.
Bin also mentions that Beth is not opposed to getting married, just heartseeded. Bin offers his services at no expense to the community, as well as performing any other marriages that want to be performed without the heart seeds.

ooc:I just came in to type the ooc part really. I just learned I have been doing my spells improperly, so the next list should include a domain spell at each level.

Thursday June 28th, 2007 9:37:30 PM

"Who is this guy, Beth? The one who they arranged for you to marry? I mean, you don't like him, right?" The rogue pauses. "You think you could maybe come to love him someday? If you're thinking that, then, well, you should do the wedding Bin."

"Otherwise, I'm telling you ... all of you ... " and she points a finger even at her companions. "I'm willing to give up this fram framblin' Test and walk Beth back to Plateau City and get her settled somewhere else. You can try to stop us. You can just try to stop us."

To Wynn, Xenia gives a pleading look.

From the Bryce Canyon Lodge parking lot.

Belkior
Thursday June 28th, 2007 9:50:47 PM

The halfling cleric looks up when Beth clarifies her objections. Belkior beams a smile at her.

"Certainly! I'd be more than willing to conduct a marriage ceremony! Haven't done one in a long time, but it's not too difficult."

"How soon does the wedding have to occur? Should we trot back to the village today?"

Belkior looks over at John, the father of the bride. The halfling is trying to determine the man's reaction to his words. Trying to be discreet, Belkior leans in close.

"There isn't any reason, is there, to rush the wedding? Or can it wait until after we've dealt with this dragon?"

When Angus hears that John has arrived to collect his kids he rises out of his blanket and goes over to shake John's hand. "Hi John, good of you to come visit in the middle of the night. You kids have been little trouble. Lets wait till morning before you head out. It seems Beth has some ideas that are not in line with yours. I think we can discuss it over breakfast. It sounds like the air just needs to be clear a bit."

If everyone settles down, Angus will go back to bed.

Bin takes special note of John's reaction to our proposal. Bin can't help but be very suspecious of this entire enounter and takes special note of anything that may be a clue. Bin Excuses himself while he goes to meditate on his spells today.
He ponders what is really happening. Beth seems to feel inclined to get married this morning and she really didn't last night. Her brother was willing to stay the night then he wanted to leave immedietly. It seems very chaotic to him and that is unlike people in the wilderness, which are normally very patient and flexable.

Bin wanders by Angus as they pack and suggests under his breath, "Let us investigate that pond in the shape of a dragon foot today? I am prepared."

From the many interruptions during the night, poor Angus is confused. John showed up in the morning, tracking his children.

Beth looks at Belkior in confusion and says hesitantly. "Thank you good sir but I thought Bin was going to conduct the wedding. Maybe you can do it together?" She obviously doesn't want to give offense.

John collects his children and says, "The wedding isn't supposed to happen until next spring. We have to build them a house over the winter and Beth is still a little young to be married. We just came to an agreement last month."

John looks around at the mixed group and especially at Xenia who he didn't see in the village. He then glances at Lang again and then finally at Belkiors legs and says, "You sure are an exotic group. After you have killed the dragon come back to the village and we will show our hospitality better than we have so far. Thank you for watching out for my kids."

With that he shepperds his kids away. The day looks bright, the air is crisp and the group sets out after breakfast moving towards the hills again. About midday, the trail starts getting harder. Steeper. The trees are thicker and impending travel.

The group keeps moving and looking for dragon sign scanning the mountains but don't find anything beyond the normal game found in these parts. Lang easily is able to put fresh meat on the spit for the evening meal. The others find herbs, wild greens and tubers to add to the meal.

Night is falling and a good breeze picks up threatening rain. The group has made camp in a small clearing and they are enjoying their dinner. The wind shifts and both Sunshine and Lang catch a wiff of something. It smells human and just as they start to shout a warning, a giant stone figure appears in the group. It is huge, towering above them. It targets Bin and slams two giant fists down upon the priest body with a roar. Bin is hit twice and takes 45 points of damage. The creature is 10' away from Bin.

Angus immediately recognizes the beast as an earth elemental, but he has never seen one so big!

OOC
Yes we are back into combat rounds. Remember this is a test. I won't be pulling any punches. Work together and fight smart! Map will follow this weekend.

Angus shakes sleep from his head and gets with the program.

Angus give a broad grin and exclaims "A wedding will be nice. I am looking forward to it." Angus give Beth 10 gold pieces "Just to get you started on things for the house. I need time to think of a proper gift for you. Just spend the money wisely."

When John take of killing the dragon so flipantly Angus spits out the water he was drinking. "After we have killed the Dragon he says. Almost like, after we paint the barn. We will do our best John and then hurry back to check on you." Angus is looking forward to the road the the company of his friends, these villagers are strange.

---------------------------------

As the group starts their travels, Angus casts mage armor on himself. Once Lang and Bin range out to hunt and collect herbs and the like Angus will cast message on the group. Angus will refresh the spell a few time throughout the day.

Once the Shields start to set up camp, Angus will let the others do whatever heavy lifting is required and just watch over camp from a comfortable shade tree. Hopefully the tree will offer some protection from the coming rain.

Once the earth elemental appears and attacks Bin, Angus will be quick to act and he attempts to dispel the creature.

The halfling cleric leaps to his feet as soon as the elemental appears. Belkior is about to cast a spell when Angus beats him to the punch and dispels the thing. That still leaves the problem of the summoner ...

His halfling hearing is sufficiently acute that he should have been able to hear the sounds of spellcasting, and that should point him towards the spellcaster.
Listen = 24, sufficient to hear spellcasting within 240 ft. Or 140 ft, if Belkior was distracted.

Judging by the size of the elemental, Belkior estimates what spell summoned it and the particulars of what they might be facing.

"The caster is close! Not far away at all!"

Belkior moves to the side of his Protector companion and casts a spell to cure Bin.

Woo! Good job, Angus The thought bursts from Xenia's thoughts as the party sorcerer vanishes the Big Stone Guy. Too bad we don' have the Message thing on. The regret is palpable on her face as she prepares to leave the group to go out on her own.

"I'm going Shadow, Wynn," she whispers. "You take care of yourself. I love you." Then she steps to one side and disappears.

A quick scan of the area reveals Lang's pup looking intently in one direction. Belkie also points out a direction.

Lets see if we can't flush this guy out.

Sliding from shadow to shadow, the dark rogue heads in that direction, her eyes and ears alert for the Magic Guy that might have brung that big stone critter down on them.

Lang breaths a sigh of relief when the giant earth monster disappears and nods at Angus in appreciation. Lang commands Sunshine "Defend." and Sunshine takes a familiar position right next to his master with hackles up.

Bin (AC: 26/26 HP: 14/53 )
Monday July 2nd, 2007 12:10:37 PM

The priest regrets watching Beth leave. She has potential to be a cleric but it is to go to waste here. perhaps not. Bin has no idea what Domi has in store for her or them, which brings him back to the present. "Now that they are gone, let us begin some divinations that may guide us to our goal. Bin had hoped they could investigate that pond again. It would be a safe place to hide something within it, if someone wanted to. How many people are going to stick around to search a foot print that size, besides us anyway. Disappointed that they don't Bin will continue to suggest it.
Bin gets out his components he needs for such spells and sits down on the grass. "A Divination spell will answer a question within one week of it's casting, so I suppose the questions should be about the test specifically. Domi also mentioned, while we were throned, that HE is our adversary. We need to know if that HE is Ga'al or the dragon or someone else entirely, using us against each other for their own ends."

Bin's first Divination spell, "Is it safe to believe there is a dragon that is the He you mentioned?"
Bin's second Divination spell, "Is it safe to believe that Ga'al and his priests are the HE you mentioned?"

Bin was hoping to get the answer's to these questions before he cast his Commune spell.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Into the night as they begin to rest, Bin gets attacked by a large piece of rock. His instincts tell him immedietly what it is, but the rock comes crushing down upon him like a rock slide. Thank goodness for his new armor, it absorbed some of the damage from the creature. Bin pulls his Holy symbol free in preperation to turn it, but just as fast, Angus dispells it before he had the chance. Bin continues his motion though and casts a spell, "Domi, grant me sight in the dead of night!" he looks first in the direction pointed out to him by those that smelled human off in the dark. Hopeing to recieve some healing from Belkior, he starts looking for places that someone could hide or be concealed from his spell.

Angus dispels the earth elemental

Bin casts his informational gathering spells in the morning and his answers come back. "It is safe to assume this." and "Ga'al and the dragon's fates intertwine."

Lang scans the area and spots something shimmering off map around Y26. He doesn't see anything in particular but he does see something strange over there.

Bin after he casts his true seeing spell also notices 5 figures standing over to the south east. One is definitely a priest of Ga'al and the others look well armed and dangerous. He sees a halfling armed with a bow, a human in chainmail armed with two swords, a 1/2 orc in banded mail and a human female dressed in robes.

Belkior listens and believes he hears faint voices coming from the southeast and points in that direction. The noise is to faint to understand the spell being cast but when he sees the large forms appear soon, he guesses it was another powerful summoning spell.

He then casts his cure on Bin making him feel much better. Bin is at 48 hps

Xenia moves to V19 hiding in the shadows.

*********************************

Bin sees the wizard casting a spell and the cleric start another summoning spell after pointing at both Bin and Belkior. He doesn't notice much after that since 2 large dire tigers appear in front of both of them and attack.

The first tiger pounces on Belkior and slashes him with both front claws one doing a critical hit for 27 points of damage and the second claw does 13 points of damage,

The tiger then bites Belkior hitting ac 29 and does 14 points of damage. It starts a grapple with its undersized opponent and gets a grapple check of 28. Belkior doesn't get +19 (after taking 10) on his bonus so he is grappled. The tiger then attacks with his back claws raking the poor devotee of Alemi hitting ac 28 and ac 26 doing 10 and 9 points of damage. Total damage to Belkior is 73. He is still grappled.

The second tiger attacks Bin and scores two hits with his claws but misses with his bite, so Bin isn't grappled or raked by the back claws
Bin takes 26 points of damage in total and is now at 22 hps after curing and tiger attack.

Two rocks come landing in camp and suddenly things seem to get very quiet One lands at L-24 and the other lands at O15. Suddenly the camp gets much more quiet.

Please post your current ACs and hps please.

I did not add damage reduction, so I'm not sure if he is at 22 or 30 HP's.
Past tense: Bin receives the answer to his questions and relates them to the group.
"The priests of Ga'al and the dragon are entwined. What does that mean exactly? I have no idea.
Does the dragon work for the priests as a minion, or are they partners to use the people of this area as fodder? Knowing all this, I think we should head back to the town and make sure Beth really is alright. Her father didn't seem to thrilled about the priests of Ga'al when we arrived, but he could have been charmed or something after we left." Bin waits on the Commune spell to get some input from the others, before he casts."

Present tense: Bin yells out direction and distance when Domi grants him the ability to see them. Bin sees one cast a spell and two tigers appear and attack.

Ooc: In the past, when I summoned monsters, they did not appear until the next round and then they attacked. So what I am seeing here, is the tigers attacking me this last round, they had to be summoned the round before, which also means the spell the enemy's are casting this round (if it's another summon) will not appear and attack until next round.

Wynn moves forward and strikes out doing a light wound to the tiger who growls in pain.

Xenia steps 5' and casts a glitterdust from a scroll. The dust comes down and a human woman in robes is reveals. She curses when her spell is negated but she makes her saving throw. (ooc Al not sure where you were casting your spell. I have read your post several times and I am going with Nellie's directions. I wouldn't assume that because you heard something, you could easily target it. Please next time give me a location where you want your spell to be centered on. thanks George)

Lang fires several of his deadly arrows at the dire tiger but only one penatrates the thick hide of the creature causing it another minor wound. 12 points of damage

Syr sees the female mage materialize and he charges off in her direction. He has to pass by the dire tiger and draws AOO gettig hit by one paw and taking 14 points of damage. He ends up at X29 and as he rushes over there he feels the wind of a weapon slash by his hair just missing him. He didn't see the attacker. Wynn jumps up and kicks the mage who doesn't look very happy at having the monk in her face. Still the blow didn't seem to hit the mage as hard as he expected it to and the damage seemed minimal. (-10 damage reduction.)

Bin correctly reasons that yet another monster will be making an appearance soon and then bashes his tormentor for 6 points of damge. The tiger barely grunts at the impact of the minor wound.

Belkior staggers 5' away from the combat and cures himself 35 hps of damage. While he feels better, he still doesn't feel his best and pulls out a wand for next round.

*********************************************
The tiger slashes and tries to bite Bin again but only is able to connect with one paw. The tiger does 10 points of damage to Bin with its one swipe (took damage reduction into account)

Xenia feels an arrow fly by her head narrowly missing. She isn't sure where the arrow came from but she knows that she is targeted. (Xenia got very lucky with my natural one dang it!)

A dire ape appears at Y29 and attacks Syr. It misses with all of its attacks.

A glowing whip appears next to Syr and slashes out him hitting ac 33 for 10 points of damage.

The human mage steps 5' back away from Syr and casts a spell. She then begins flying up into the air getting to 20' in height. Now at Z31 up in the air

Syr is also attacked again but he doesn't see his assailant. The attack seems to come from x28. Syr was hit twice but one of the wounds is nasty (critical hit) He takes 23 points of damage from the first hit and 9 from the second.

(ooc) Tommorrow is the 4th of July. If everyone posts, then I will post otherwise I will wait until Thursday evening. Have a nice holiday.

Staggering under the onslaught of blows he glances back over his shoulder to attempt to spot the invisible attacker. Seeing nothing and his friends so far away, he shouts, "'Ware the invis!"

Seeing no other recourse to avoiding all the blows, he hopes the mage's friends won't attack the two of them and closes to wrestle with her. (Touch attack 20, grapple 26 dam 9)

Assuming he is now wrestling with the mage, Syr takes a freehand and begins pummeling her from in close. (Att 27,33,31,crit,confirm=16 Damage 16,14,13,19

(OOC: I could be wrong but I didn't think you could make 2 move actions in a turn so the mage's 2nd is nullified? If not let me know and I'll change actions)

Angus is thankful that everyone is still standing and takes out yet another new rod (enlarge)and tries a new tact to dispel the new ape, fire!

Angus hums to himself as he moves (move action)to the south west (careful to stay out of range from the tiger) and once he hears himself hum he will stop and remove his enlarge rod from his HHH (Free action). Angus will then cast his enlarged fireball encompasing the glittering mage, the Ape and Syr and any surrounding bad guy. Angus whispers a prayer to Syr "Be quick my friend."

Damage 34 DC 20 for 17 from the enlarged conflageration

Angus looks back over at the tiger hopeful his friends can bring it down.

Sorry Jim but you are still in the silence effect. You can cast the fireball silenced with the rod or move and cast it normally but not enlarged. Let me know which. Also tell me where you are centering the spell. Might make a difference. See how kind I am being. Could have just nullified it. Happy 4th.

JimF: Read the first line of your post. You told me I left the silence with my 5 foot movement last round. I was only playing of what you posted.

Yeah well DM's make mistakes too. You used your rod of silence and didn't move. My error but it ends with you still being in the silence. sorry dude.

JimF: I said I moved and I have no idea where the silence spells are either. My post was based on the first line of you post stating that I was no longer in the silence.

Lang is greatly dissapointed in his last grouping of shots at the tiger and is now torn with who to shot with the mage floating in the air. Seeing that his companion is beset by many foes, the halfling cleric tries to remove some of the magical effects attacking Syr. Belkior casts Dispel Magic so that it would affect the area where the summoned creature, the glowing whip and another opponent might be.

Area Dispel -
Spiritual Weapon - dispel up to lvl 17 caster
Summoned Ape - dispel up to lvl 17 caster
Invisible Attacker - 1st spell, dispel up to lvl 7 caster; 2nd spell, dispel up to lvl 16 caster
Grappled Mage - highest spell, dispel up to lvl 15 caster; second, dispel up to lvl 18 caster
Throw in a bunch of other rolls: 14, 22, 16, 23, 12, 17

After doing that, Belkior moves towards Syr since he can see that the monk is sorely injured.

Action
Standard - Cast Dispel Magic (see above)
Move - 30 ft to T23

4 (DC 20) - Imbue with Spell Ability*, Neutralize Poison, Tongues (D - Cure Critical Wounds*)
5 (DC 21) - Greater Command, Wall of Stone (D - Dispel Evil)
* = cast

I am going to count this as a area dispel targeted on the summoned Dire Ape. Please you must in the future tell me where you want them to be centered or I will make my best guess.

ed. JohnP - Yes, I should have been clearer. I usually refer to an intersection when I target spells, but I didn't really think that it would matter.

Normally wouldn't but with so many invisible opponents running around, it makes a difference.

Xenia (AC22, HP 63/63)  d20+21=25 d20+19=27
Thursday July 5th, 2007 12:03:16 AM

"Syr!" He got hit! Looks like several times in and around Angus' fireball.

Sorry, Syr. Xenia's thoughts go out to her companion. But what we need now is to even the odds. And time. Time to get ourselves together.

The slim girl pulls another scroll. This one would be more difficult. It's one she's never done before. The clerk at the Catacombs said it was a spell cast by Wood Druids and such.

Good luck, Syr. Hang on. Won't be but half a minute. Hopefully this will protect you too. Hang on. Domi protect you.

Then Xenia reads from the scroll. As the parchment crumbles, the rogue stabs a finger at the pile of Ape, Elf, and Mage. A Storm of Sleet spreads out to 80 feet across and twenty feet high, hiding everything from sight. Within the Sleet Storm, visibility is non-existent, and moving within the ice would be a difficult proposition at best.

With an eye on the circumference of the storm to see if anyone on this side is coming out (The spot roll). Xenia takes a step toward the tiger.

"Lets kill us a tiger," she says, "and get ready for them to come out of there."

Out of the corner of his eye, Syr sees a flaming ball streaking toward them (Maybe? :). In a desperate effort, he manhandles the mage's squirming figure between himself and the center of the explosion shielding the monk completely. (Improved Evasion reflex save 31)

(OOC: smart move Jim, would you have cast that at Syr without having seen his character sheet?)

Nellie regarding Handy Haversack
Thursday July 5th, 2007 2:42:14 PM

Jim, you are in error about the Haversack. It is still a move action to retrieve an item, it just removes the AoO normally associated with the action. I've posted the description here for your reference....

Handy Haversack
A backpack of this sort appears to be well made, well used, and quite ordinary. It is constructed of finely tanned leather, and the straps have brass hardware and buckles. It has two side pouches, each of which appears large enough to hold about a quart of material. In fact, each is like a bag of holding and can actually hold material of as much as 2 cubic feet in volume or 20 pounds in weight. The large central portion of the pack can contain up to 8 cubic feet or 80 pounds of material. Even when so filled, the backpack always weighs only 5 pounds.

While such storage is useful enough, the pack has an even greater power in addition. When the wearer reaches into it for a specific item, that item is always on top. Thus, no digging around and fumbling is ever necessary to find what a haversack contains. Retrieving any specific item from a haversack is a move action, but it does not provoke the attacks of opportunity that retrieving a stored item usually does.

------------------------

JimF: Angus will move and cast a standard fireball and not retrive the rod to enlarge it.

Syr grapples the female mage and lands 2 heavy blows on her hitting critically. Still the blows didn't seem as strong as they should be. Almost like her skin was tougher or harder than normal.

Wynn slashes at the dire tiger hitting twice and causing it to yip in pain. Tiger is starting to look a little haggard.

Angus moves to P10 and notices the sounds again. He murmers some words and a ball of fire centered on Syr explodes. Syr successfully evades it but the mage doesn't as the fire washes over her, Syr takes satisfaction in her cries of pain. The ape fails it save and looks on deaths door.

Lang shoots the tiger 3 times and scores three hits. It isn't happy. It isn't happy at all.

Bin slashes at the tiger opening another wound on it but still the tiger is alive.

Belkior casts his dispel to good effect. The ape disappears, a man in a chain shirt appears holding 2 swords dripping in Syr's blood. A man dressed in full plate mail is also revealed.

Xenia summons her sleet storm and everyone in the area is obscured

****************************************

The dire tiger roars in torment and lashes out in pain and fury at Bin. He scores 3 hits, two with his claws and yet again missing with its bite. Bin cries out in pain and lapses into unconciousness at -5 hps (yes I remembered your armor)

Xenia isn't as lucky this time and feels the bite of an arrow enter his skin. The arrow slices into her chest doing 25 points of damage. Still when she looks up, she sees no opponent.

Syr hears some murmered words coming from the mage and gets an attack of opportunity. The girl then vanishes from his feel with a pop. (Rolled a pretty good concentration check so assuming she her spells gets off but will let you know after your attack. remember to take a 50% miss chance due to the sleet storm. 1-50 and you miss.

Belkior is also in the sleetstorm and needs to make saves along with Syr.

Angus readies a spell as he likes his position by the hills. At the end of the round Angus will move 5 feet to give himself a lower profile and be harder to see.

Angus will extract his enlarge rod and now cast and enlarged fireball, centered on Syr last know postion hoping to encompass anyone that may want to bother the monk. Angus will only extend the fireball 20 feet in front of Syr's last know position to keep it away from the Shields (Belkior) "Time for indirect fire, hang tough Syr." Angus whispers to himself.

As the mage casts her spell, he tries to take a final swipe at her only to miss the vanishing figure (OOC: failed the 50% only to refresh the page by mistake). Calling out to the rest of the group whose eyes may not be able to penetrate inside the sleet, "Watch your backs, she just teleported."

As another fireball streaks at him, Syr grumbles in irritation as he avoids the blast behind the Dire Ape's corpse (Reflex save 30). "Fire, ice, and now fire.... With friends like this, I'm better off alone."

Despite his words, he lays hands on himself attempting to heal some of the damage before looking around for more enemies and deciding what the next step will be.

Depending upon the outcome of the invisibility purge spell he flees (balance 23) or remains. (OOC: I know the DM post says 2 figures are revealed but the map doesn't give a location. Is the full armored figure a priest? He is leaning toward a withdrawal anyway. AoO may affect that decision). If no foe is present, the elf runs back to rejoin the rest of the group stopping near Belkior. If the archer or priest is nearby he closes the gap in preparation for next round.

Syr doesn't see anyone else because of the sleet storm. It totally impairs vision. So if they were made visible, the sleet storm is hiding them again.

The rogue clenches her teeth at the wound that had found it's way through her armor. A touch of the protruding shaft reveals a place in just the spot she herself would have put it were an opponent caught unawares. Can't let that happen again.

Xenia moves and the shadows take her in.

The Invisible spell this guy's using is strong. Leastwise from what little the rogue can figure. But it don't last long. It's Combat Invisibility. Plenty of time, though, to do harm. Gotta find him and take him out. Or her. Take her out.

Looks like the Guys are cleaning things up just fine. Poor Bin. If the Bow Rogue got a Sneaky Stick into her side, then whoever it is has gotta be close. Thirty feet. Somewhere close. Consider where the rest of them came from, more likely he's south. Coming around the side of her Guys. Xenia skirts the shadow of her own Sleet Storm.

Reaching behind her as she scans the terrain for invisible stuff, the rogue pulls out a wooden wand. First thing on top, of course. Good old Magic Haversack.

Wynn slashes at the tiger causing it to grunt in pain but it stays up somehow.

Angus launches a fireball into the sleetstorm near to where he believes Syr was and where he hopes the bad guys are. It goes off with a flash and steam can be seen rising from the sleet storm but you don't hear any screams of pain and you can't see the area where it went off. Could they be dead? Did it miss? Who knows.

Bin slumps unconcious and continues to bleedout. (Rolled stablization for you and you didn't)

Lang quickly shoots 3 arrows into the tiger and watches with satisfaction as is fades away to where ever it came from.

Belkior moves towards Bin readying his healing touch for next round.

Syr moves to get out of the Sleetstorm since his prey has temporarily escaped. He moves towards his comrades.

Xenia moves forward slipping into the shadows. She sees a halfling armed with a bow appear in front of her around 45' away. The halfling looks generally in her direction, gives a wave and then darts away towards the east. She quickly loses sight of him since the sleet storm gets in the way.

The spiritual weapon was dispelled last round by Belkior. Unless it's caster was more than 17th level, which is a scary thought.

Al - OoC
Saturday July 7th, 2007 10:00:16 PM

I'm not sure it's a Spiritual Weapon, John. Although I admit to being a bit confused. I don't think your Spiritual Weapon is constrained to the weapon of choice of your god. Unless one of the Woldian Gods uses a Whip, a Whip spiritual weapon is not possible.

Could be a Feather Token. But the damage it deals is high for a Feather Token.

Note, however, that if it is a Spiritual Weapon, then the Cleric who cast it is outside of the Sleet Storm. If the Cleric were still in the Sleet Storm, the weapon would return to him, as it would be out of his sight. If this is true, George, could you give the direction from which the Whip is coming? It must always strike from the direction of the caster, and that would give some indication of where the Cleric is. We could possibly fireball the area.

DM George
Sunday July 8th, 2007 8:58:56 AM

OOC Yes it is a spiritual weapon. Did a quick look when looking for preferred weapons of Ga'al and didn't find any and a whip seemed sort of appropriate. I didn't see the line of sight thing, so lets just forget about the whip. It is hovering somewhere out of sight right now.

Belkior didn't dispel it but the the priest did become visible after the dispel magic. With an area dispel, you get the highest level spell on each person first.

Xenia winces from the arrow still embedded in her side as she reaches to her haversack for another scroll. Her voice is loud, conspicuously loud, as she reads from the scroll. She feels the rush of speed to her feet, even as the scroll crumbles under her fingers.

"Better run, Little Bozo!" the rogue calls out. "I'm coming for ya!" Then she steps a few feet backwards, and the Wold becomes a rushing torrent of dark pelting ice as Xenia enters the Sleetstorm. There is nothing to be seen outside the hood of her cloak. But sound. Sound will give you away. The dark rogue listens, filtering away the steady white-noise pattern of pounding sleet, to pick out the sound of footsteps just outside.

You coming back? You standing? Waiting, you little plompy bottom bandisnatch?

Al, where was the scroll? If you had to pull it out, then that was your move action. Also remember you have a wand of acid splash in your hands already. Won't stop from reading the scroll, just a reminder. I think you can only take a 5' step.

That is a 5ft step. At least, I've listed it as a 5ft step. And it's only 5ft from Xenia's last position.

And yes. I'm aware of the wand. --Al

DM George "End of current combat"
Monday July 9th, 2007 10:09:13 PM

Angus turns himself into a small winged fairy and gains some height trying to spot the enemy. He still can's see anything with the sleet storm in the way.

Xenia casts her spell from a scroll allowing her to move that much faster and steps into the sleetstorm trying to listen for the enemy. It is tougher than she thought as the sleet pounds down around her but she thinks she hears something moving to the east.

Lang also casts an improved movement spell and he and Sunshine move forward to try and spot the troublesome group. Lang does see the group running to the East. They are quickly lost from sight amongst the trees and the dim light. Wynn sniffs the air and does catch their scent.

Wynn moves forward and taps his wand on Bin stabalizing the cleric and bringing him back to conciousness.

Bin decides he is still feeling woozy and cures himself even more making himself feel much better. Still he feels ill used and knows that he is far from 100%

Syr drinks a potion adding to his hitpoints and warns the others of what he say saying near the group.

Belkior takes advantage to step forward and cure Syr, making the monk feel much better. (Had to move you closer on the map but no problem)

The current combat is over and I am taking us out of combat rounds unless you guys decide to pursue. Right now the group is out of sight. It is about dusk and visiblity is getting tougher.

Xenia - OoC
Monday July 9th, 2007 10:21:46 PM

Dusk should present zero problems to Syr, Xenia, or Wynn. They should be able to see as though it were Daylight with their Low Light Vision. Lang might be limited to 60ft with Darkvision.

Many of us have a speed of 40 to 60 now and Angus can sling a Fireball some 800 feet.

Add to that, the fact that they have a halfling with them. That will slow them down. I think we have a good chance of catching them.

How far is "out of sight", George? Out of sight due to underbrush? Due to darkness? Could you give us more details?

Bin ooc
Monday July 9th, 2007 11:21:07 PM

I don't like that idea. We are running off into the woods after something we can't see now. It is likely phase two of their nasty little trap. I don't think we should fall for it and we can likely get back to the town before they do, unless that is where the mage teleported to. Regardless, there are now innocents surrounded by our enemies.

Smiling and almost whole again he whispers to Belkior, "Thanks but don't forget yourself too!"

As the others voice concern, "Maybe not chase them but I'm thinking we go after them cautiously. I'm not the sorceror but I'm betting they spent some hefty spells summoning those things already. Do we want them on a night's rest? Whatever we decide do it quick and let's move before they get further ahead."

"You have a very valid point about the element of suprise. I was triple teamed in there and don't really want to go through that again. Maybe our pretty multi-talented elf can follow them unseen? Also, Angus how about one of your message spells to communicate silently."

"Anyway, I'm going to go back up Lang." He waits to see what the group decides before sprinting off to join Lang and Sunshine.

Scent

A creature with the Track feat and the scent ability can follow tracks by smell, making a Wisdom check to find or follow a track. The typical DC for a fresh trail is 10. The DC increases or decreases depending on how strong the quarry's odor is, the number of creatures, and the age of the trail. For each hour that the trail is cold, the DC increases by 2. The ability otherwise follows the rules for the Track feat. Creatures tracking by scent ignore the effects of surface conditions and poor visibility.

DM George (round 7)
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 9:58:05 PM

Guys to keep track of spells, I am going to keep the combat counter going but technically you are out of combat for now. Still gonna play by combat round until you decide to stop.

Syr moves in his normal speedy way to stand by Lang and easily stays with the ranger as the ranger starts tracking.

Lang starts sniffing the air and moving in the direction that he is guessing the group went into the woods. Since he is moving at full speed, his tracking skills are very limited (-20 modifier) He doesn't pick up a trail yet

Angus heads higher into the sky trying to spot the escaping men but can't see them in the gloom an over the sleetstorm.

Xenia moves around the Sleetstorm and sees that the terrain starts to get tougher and more tree filled the farther east you go. While you would be able to hustle, running would be very hard. She does see a fleeting figure for a second dodge around a tree. It was around 75 to 95' away. She believes it was the halfling and he was still moving away.

Bin starts to cast his augury spell but this takes a full minute to do, so he will be out of the action for a while.

Wynn heads towards Xenia. (ooc you didn't give me a location so please no complaints on where I put you.)

Belkior is strangly quiet and stays by Bin's side.

"I saw sump'in! I saw him, Wynn!" Caught up in the thrill of the hunt and chase, the rogue stabs a finger in a direction directly east. "He's that way!"

Ow ...

The movement brings pain flaring from the arrow in her side. Still, she takes off like a shot after the source of her fleeting glimpse.

This must be how fast Syr moves. It's like Flying! The wind blows through her hood, and Xenia revels in the feeling as she glides across the ground cloaked within the shadows. Even the pain of the arrow protruding from her side is forgotten in this brief moment of exhilaration. At the first stand of trees and rocks, Xenia slips into shadow. Anyone watching could figure the direction of her travel by the first thirty feet or so of her movement. That's enemies as well as friends. But can they see her now?

Belkior casts a cure on Bin, and then this round will cast his circle of evil spell. Belkior will then follow along after Bin. (technically I don't have to allow this but I will this time. Everything is done in turns, Bin cast his spell and then moves forward. You really can't add on to your turn after seeing his actions. Again I will allow it this time but not in the future.)

Angus gets another 30' of air and then moves forward another 60' (ooc fly spells says you can't run. I am ruling you can't hussle either)

Xenia strides forward like the wind but realizes that she has a tougher time hiding going this fast. (Al I am gonna give you a -10 since you aren't use to moving this fast) Xenia looks up and sees the halfling to the north around B64

Lang sense of smell tells him that the bad guys are moving northeast but he also smells Xenia and tries to meet up with her. He knows he is close to the drow elf but just can't seem to see her.

Syr looks for the enemy (ooc please give a spot check when you do something like that. rolled for you and you got a 7)and doesn't see them. He flanks Lang ready for action.

Bin casts his spell and moves 30' towards his companions.

Wynn chases after his lover hoping to protect her from hurt and inflict some of his own.

*****************************************

The halfling sees that Xenia sees him, gives her a friendly wave and then vanishes from view.

All of the group hear a huge wind driven noise and lost of chopping noises . A huge wall of swords appears out in front of the group almost mocking them to get past it. Thousands of blades whirling in the air doing nasty damage to the local vegetation.

Again with the wave.

Plompy Bottom must be pretty good. Despite herself the rogue feels a grudging respect for the little bubble butt. As her body moves, her mind too races, trying to figure out how the little guy is doing it. Could be one 'a them rings she's heard about. Didn't see him turning nothing magic on. But word is, you can do it just be speaking a word.

She eyes the whipping blades. The line looks to the rogue's eye as though it curves in a circle. Good. "Can't get in. Can't get out." Leastwise that's what her Da used to say.

"HEY ANGUS!" Her voice comes loud out of the shadows as Xenia looks back over her shoulder in search of the sorcerer. "I THINK THEY JUST TRAPPED THEMSELVES IN THEIR OWN MAGIC STUFF. DROP A FEW FIREBALLS INSIDE THE CIRCLE THING, HUH? SEE HOW MUCH THEY WANNA BE IN THERE AFTER THAT."

Then she rushes off at full speed, working to get around back of the Circle Magic. Plompy can see her anyway. No sense hiding. But ... the others can't. At the last second, Xenia slips into shadows and then searches about, looking for where the others might be. (Nat 20 on Spot)

OOC For general infomation I will be trying to get my post in for around 9 pm on average. I might stray later but never earlier. I need to do this since the posting for combat normally takes me about an hour to accomplish. If you haven't posted before me by then, things could get bad fast.

Xenia rushes forward darting to the trees. Once she gets to them she realizes that it is going to be slower going when she gets to them (1/2 movement in the denser looking trees or trees packed together on map.)She starts picking her way through them but the end of her movement puts her at U60. She still clears the trees and looks into the bladebarrier ring and sees four people. The mage that teleported away is hovering by the priest and two fighters are in there as well.

Angus gathers more height and flys over the sleetstorm which suddenly stops storming and disappears.

Bin closes the gap towards his friends.

Lang keeps moving towards Xenia but finds himself falling behind. (movement of 40 compared to her 60)Lang ends up with a double move at T59 and while he is unhindered by the underbrush and trees, can see other non rangers having some difficulites. Lang can smell all 4 of the bad guys and picks up a scent of a 5th.

Bin rushes forward to support his friends and Belkior follows him. (Isn't Belkior's movement 30 with his cat legs?)

Wynn and Syr do nothing.
******************************************

Xenia sees the priest reach out and touch the floating mage and any wounds on her and her companions quickly disappear.

Xenia also sees the mage toss something over the blade barrier onto the ground and two adult lions appear. They start stalking in Xenia's direction scanning the area with their eyes and sniffing the air.

The end up in U65 and U67 and turn in Xenia's direction and start growling.

Xenia sees Q2 drink a potion and Q3 seems content to wait until something comes at him. Q3 is a half orc who seems very well armed and armored in banded mail. He is carrying a great sword.

Uh oh. Kitties. And they look like they've snuffed me out.

The rogue studies the rhythms of the whirling blades.

"Lang, I'm gonna try and draw them lions away."

She darts out of shadow, rushing toward the lions at an angle. Then, like a rabbit, she darts away, directly for the wall of blades.

Timing. It's all timing.

Xenia nearly fails to dodge in time.

Then she's through, inside the barrier of blades and coming up under the floating woman who's the responsible one for throwing around all the animals.

Alright. Lets see what we can do about that. But first.

The rogue steals the shadows from the mage floating up above, then she veers from her course, slipping silently to the side. In and amongst them now. Wonder where Plompy Bottom is?

DM George Supplimental post
Friday July 13th, 2007 12:26:04 PM

Bin sees a halfling armed with a bow moving towards him. The halfling is invisible but Bin sees him with his true seeing spell. The halfling is at E29. Bin is the only one who can see the halfing.

Bin (AC: 26/26 HP: 44/53 True Seeing)
Friday July 13th, 2007 4:29:56 PM

Bin is in no mood to tolerate such actions. He thinks to himself how they could possibly take prisoners. It does not seem possible. Nor does he believe that the enemy want to take the shields captive either. So, it must be a fight to the death. Bin pulls a small straight piece of iron from his component pouch and gauges the expression on the halflings face when Bin looks right at him and begins his spell. Pointing a finger directly at the little ruffian he says, "Domi says hold!" Bin then takes the rest of his movement and runs up to engage the little festering pimple. Using his reach to force the halfling to advance or withdraw and hopefully cause him to draw an AoO as well.

Belkior moves forward and his invisiblity purge reveals the halfing to everyone else much to the halfling's chagrin.

Wynn moves forward towards Xenia and catches up only to watch her goad the lions and sprint into the blade barrier.

Xenia runs into the blade barrier past the lions, (assuming she didn't get in AOO range and darts to the otherside. Angus fireball just misses her.

Bin sees assassin and calls on the powers of his god to hold him still. Unfortunately assassin makes his save. Then bin charges up to threaten him.

Angus calls forth his powers of fire and launches an empowered fireball into the barrel but only catches one fish. The mage is caught in the spell and roasts badly having failed her saving throw. All of the quad wince in pain as some burns appear on all of them.

Syr moves towards the action and closes the gap to his foes.

********************************************
The mage follows Xenia's movements and points at her when she stops and hides in the mages shadow. "Kill her, she is right there! She summons some magic and two scorching rays leap from her hand and strike Xenia hitting her once for 15 points of damage. (rolled natural 20 spot check)

The priest sighs and reaches forward to touch the foot of the mage. Wounds on all of the quad disappear.

The halfling takes a 5' step back and disappears into the shadow of a tree. Rolled natural 20 for hide. Suddenly two arrows launch out at strike at Bin but only one hits. Bin takes 25 points of damage

The absolutely hugely muscled 1/2 orc moves towards Xenia's (E3)location swinging his greatsword swiftly through the air. The first swing cuts into the shadowdancer with horrible force doing 22 points of damage. (ooc gave him a 50% chance to miss but he rolled an 80. Xenia slumps unconcious.

The ranger watches the action with a smile on his face.

The lions originally chase after Xenia and right into the blade barrier. Both lions quickly revert to statuette form after this bad move.

How di ...

The Wold explodes into an action and pain that the rogue understand only after the fact from parsing the visual images from memory. The touch of fire from the mage girl. The big half-orcie guy coming at her. His eyes. They don't look right her way, but the really big sword, it sweeps in her direction none the less. The panic is palpable, even viewing it in retrospect, at the inevitable as it bears down upon her.

Red fire clouds Xenia's vision. No. That's another fireball. Through the haze of pain the rogue barely remembers dodging.

Don't look at the cut. Don't even look at it. Don't wanna see bones sticking out or nothing. Don't look. Run away. Back through the blades. You can make it. But ... Here's maybe a chance to end it.

Almost without thought, Xenia points the wand at Big Sword Guy and lets go a blob of Acid at his groin right in front of her. The move gives away her place in shadow, and as his eyes light on her, she tumbles back along the nearest path toward the Blade Barrier. Shadow closes over her.

Then she changes direction.

Slow. Stealthy. Slow. The dark rogue changes direction. Instead of fleeing for the safety of the Blade Barrier, she turns around and heads further into the circle. This is the end if she's found out. But it's also a chance to put this to bed.

If, that is, she's not caught.

Angus drops another empowered fireball down on the group the blade barrier group and does devasting damage. The figher takes the brunt of the fireball while the other two quad members feel it but not as badly. The priest only seems slightly singed.

Xenia dodges the fireball and then shoots the poor fighter in the groin with acid. (Hope Wynn never cheats on her.) She then moves around and hides in the shadows praying she isn't seen.

Belkior - OOC
Monday July 16th, 2007 11:01:16 PM

Some questions before I post:

1. Can Belkior see the group inside the Blade Barrier? Can he see all of the characters inside, or only some? If only some, which ones?

Yes but not well. The night is coming but I decided to play that people can see things. Angus wouldn't have gotten his fireballs off if not.

2. What do the tree and other symbols represent on the map? Are those areas costing double movement? Or do they block line-of-sight?

single trees don't slow movement but where you see the trees bunched together, both sight is obscured and movement cut in half.

Post will probably happen tomorrow night, right before the DM post.

Sorry for the delays. Worked from 8 to 9 today and didn't get a chance to look

Covered in her own blood and fill with all ways of pain, still the rogue's spirits lift as Syr comes through the Barrier and socks the Priesty Guy a good one. And when Wynn rises up over the top of the whirling blades, a dark avenger lit by the crimson rays of the dying sun, the spirits of the girl rogue soar.

"You see how they're connected?" she calls out, even as she triggers the magic Acid Stick again, sending a splash of stinging acid at just the right place on the Priesty Guy's face. "They all heal together and they all hurt together! Lets kill one and see what happens!"

Then the rogue is gone again, headed southeast, dancing into the shadows. Veer. This time just a bit. Come up under the Mage Girl. A dangerous game.

Belkior (AC 23; HP 43/81) - Invisibility Purge, Magic Circle Against Evil
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 8:49:10 PM

The halfling cleric leaves Bin to deal with the sneaky halfling and continues moving towards the rest of his companion. Having seen the fireball arc overhead, Belkior figures that he needs to deal with the spellcasters.

Once he is a bit closer to most of the opponents, Belkior stops and recites the words and gestures needed to Silence the Ga'alians.

Wynn takes off and flys over the blade barrier ready to fight for his lover and companions.

Syr moves through the blade barrier still clutching one of the figurines and attacks the Priest. Syr's hand rebounds off the priest like he hit stone and does't seem to do any damage. Priest isn't stunned.

Angus feeling a little picked on last round decided to dimenision door away and pulls out a potion.

Lang shoots his two arrows at the mage and hits both times but isn't as pleased with the results as he was hoping. Still he does some damage.

Xenia shoots the priest and is disappointed to see her tactic fail this time. Not sure why but the acid while hitting didn't burn.

Bin attacks twice and hits but his weapons don't do any damage to the halfling who just grins at him and shakes his head.

Belkior leaves his fellow priest and moves towards the others casting a silence spell much to the dismay of the quad's spell users.

***************************************
The priest notices the silence on the area and moves to the north to get away from it, ending his movement at D60. He casts a spell that doesn't have any apparant effect. Syr gets an AOO.

Q2 moves south and attacks Syr with one of his shortswords but misses.

Q3 charges and takes a powerattack on Syr. He hits the nimble monk and does a 47 points of damage with his powerful thrust.

Q1 moves 20' away, drawing an AOO from Bin and shoots at the cleric but misses.

Q4 rises 30 up into the air and casts a lightning bolt at Wynn. The crackling energy hits him doing 30 points of damage or 15 if reflex save is made. DC 18

Bin is getting annoyed by the hit and run tactics of the rogue, so when he turns to flee, Bin takes his free attack and attempts to trip the little booger by kicking his feet out from under him, only because he has a bow in his hands, so that should avoid the usual AoO for such actions.

Ok, thank you. So using the same rolls, the touch attack is at -4 which would hit AC: 25

Not knowing what this guys dexterity or strength is the trip DC is at 6

After reading that, I really don't know what I need to do next to finish the trip. I rolled a natural 19 for my roll and I have +4 with a 19 strength with no size modifiers.

As the priest runs away, Syr grins and takes a final swipe at the retreating back (AoO 32 damage 13).

His grin is very short lived as a new foe skewers the monk on a huge sword. Pain racks his body as the sword opens up a huge wound.

Outnumbered and hurting, he weighs his options quickly. Deciding that retreat is the better part of valor, he withdraws from combat before speeding off to where he saw the two priests last in hopes of closing this hole in his side.

He staggers back through the blades (Reflex 31)thinking to himself that he will not face that sword willingly again.

I have not heard from George this evening. I will post in the morning if there isn't a post by George.

DM George Round 12  d20=16 d20+19=36 d20=18
Thursday July 19th, 2007 10:18:09 AM

OOC trying to get this quick so please forgive any mistakes. Nellie feel free to jump in and correct anything you see.

Angus sucks down his potion and feels some of the pain fade away, though he is far from 100%

Wynn takes a mighty whack at the mage and hits but his damage doesn't get past her stone skin.

Xenia frustrated by the silence spell pulls out a scroll and sneaks past the cleric with a nasty surprise planned for next round.

Bin trips the nasty little halfling as he tries to move away. The halfling crawls away to 10' and then rises. He never got the shot off last round but since it was a miss anyway, it is moot. (though you tripped him during his turn, he still gets his turn and chooses to crawl away and then stand up. You can't swing unless you step forward so I am having you cast your spell.)

Bin then casts his spell this round.

Lang pin cushions the mage with three arrows but is frustrated that they aren't doing the damage she was hoping. Still she does wince in pain and has a worried look on her face.

Syr withdraws, handily weaving through the blade barrier and runs for clerical aid.

Belkior seeing Syr in distress moves in his direction ready to cure next round.

********************************************

The priest of Ga'al sneers at the feeble attempts of the Crimson Shields and says, "Finish this rabble off. I am going back to bring the dragon to the glory of Ga'al. Imagine quads riding dragon back! Finish them off and you will get the first steeds."

With that the priest incants a spell and disappears. (OOC Al you an AOO but I rolled a concentration check of 36)

(ooc sorry ran out of time, If Nellie could figure the quads attacks, that would be great! George)

You can only crawl 5ft when prone.

Actions In Combat

Crawling

You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl.

BTW, Xenia should be 10ft from the Priest. So there would be no AoO.

Quad's Actions (Co-DM Nellie)  d20=13 d20=14 d20=17 d20+19=29 d20+10=20 d20+13=27 d6+5=11 d20+7=19

OOC: Changing post for Halfling due to George's boo-boo.
Another note...the Reflex DC for the Blade Barrier is 22.

Folks, I misread some information on the module, so I'm editting the post.---Nellie

Last Round:
Looking more than a little unhappy with the situation, the Halfling crawls 10 feet away from Bin (double move).

Current Round:

Bin moves in and attacks the prone halfling. His blow crunches into the halfling, but strangly draws no blood. Looking more than a little miffed, the halfling tries to rises to his feet (another AoO for Bin, no trip). Anger in his eyes, he levels his bow at the cleric and fires an arrow straight into his chest. (AC27 for 11)

Wynn's sword having drawn a good deal of blood (adamantine negates stoneskin), the sorceress flies away from the bard 25 feet (drawing an AoO) and drops 20 feet in elevation. She then begins weaving a spell and flings it toward Wynn. "You little toa....no...you insignificant little fly. Buzz off and bother someone else!" Wynn feels strange magic surrounding his body attempting to rearrange his very molecules (Baleful Polymorph, Fort. DC20 or be turned permanently into a fly. Will DC 20 or permanently lose your ability to cast spells).

The ranger looks around for the dark little girl. Not spoting her, he decides to slow down Mr. I'm Fast on my Feet (Syr). Moving out of the silenced area, he casts a spell and all the vegetation around Syr and Belkior suddenly springs to life and tries to hold them fast to the ground (Entangle. Ref. DC 13 or become Entangled. Even if unentangled, movement is reduced to ½ in the Entangled area).

The half-orc also takes a look see and can't spot Xenia. He moves in close to the Blade barrier, wary of the flying pixie spellcaster out there somewhere.

OOC - Matt C. playing Angus
Thursday July 19th, 2007 5:09:39 PM

OOC - How does the Halfling know where Angus is? He Dimension Doored (I think about 400') 2 rounds ago and has done nothing combative for anyone to know where he is. Plus, he is a small creature 75' up in the air.

I have noted all those facts...however several of the Quad are keeping track of the pesky little pixie. There are a few things about this Quad that you haven't uncovered yet.---Nellie

Wynn slashes again at the sorceress as she tries to flee, his adamintine sword finding it's target again [AoO Hit AC=28 for 12 HP, she will need to make a concentration check or lose her spell].

Wynn feels the magic of her spell wash over him like a flood of alternating cold and warm air, but he steels himself to the effects and manages to fight them off [Fort save =26, Will save =22, re-rolled the 17 with a hero point].

The bard knows he must press forward if they are to keep Ga'als servants off balance. He pursues the flying sorceress and deftly slices at her again with his bloodied adamantine sword [Hit AC=31 for 11 HP].

[OOC thanks for picking up on Wynn's adamntine sword - didn't think it would be so useful so soon - good investment!!]

Bin ooc
Thursday July 19th, 2007 6:05:08 PM

I totally dispute the halflings actions. Crawling by itself is a move action. Did he stand to cast the spell, or was he on his hands and knees?

Not only that, but the DM's warned us that we better not make any mistakes or there will be no mercy. Well I made two this battle alone and no one said "No problem Buzz, it's a learning experience, change that." I ate two rounds with my mistakes. I'm seeing a double standard for villans that does not seem quite right.

Correct me where I'm wrong please.

Ok, so lets go through this again without me getting upset.

He trys to run away provoking an attack of opportunity.
I trip him. At this time, he crawls away before my standard attacks 5' and casts a spell and leaves.

Then I want to Counterspell his spell with Dispel Magic. Since what you saying is, he hasn't had his action yet, then neither have I.
If this is the case, let me know and I will roll, if it's not going to get me anywhere, oh well.

Bin, please add back the 3hp from your armor. And BTW...a 19 Str. Is a +4 not a +6---Nellie

The Crimsons crank it up a notch as they continue to punish the aggressors.

Xenia continues to hide as she pulls out a potion from her pack. Her hands are starting to get full. I seem to remember at least a wand, a scroll and a potion...just how much stuff can Xenia hold at one time??

Wynn cuts into the spellcaster and then pursues for yet more carnage. Actually, if you draw an AoO, move away and then cast a spell no Concentration check is needed. Now if she had cast it and drawn the AoO then yes, she would need the Con. Check. Also, you can add back the Hero point...since you saved the Fort. Wynn didn't need to make the Will.

All of the Crimsons in the Entangle area easily shrug off the grasping grasses.

Belkior slowly but surely wades through the undergrowth to come to his comrade's aid.

Syr decides to help Bin bring the Halfling down once and for all. He wades through the Entangled area and takes up a flanking position with Bin.

Bin presses the attack...there's no way he's letting Little Britches out of his clutches this time! Swinging his warhammer at the Halfling, he is frustrated to see that although it connects solidly, it does no damage. Changing things up, he tries the tried and true "Sweep him off his Feet" technique but he just can't take the little Snot nose down.

On the other side of the field of combat, after healing up, Angus joins back into the combat. He fires off a lightening bolt, making sure to use the rod to boost the range. Thankfully, Wynn is off to the side, and not in the path of the bolt. (Being nice this time...but this is why we ask players to post their position). Likewise, Xenia's hair stands on end as the bolt passes above her head. A smile spreads on the pixies face as the spellcaster screams in pain (Ref. failed).

Lang continues his target practice and finds that while his first arrow doesn't do any damage, his second and third slam home.

Those directly involved in melee notice that the enemy is definitely looking worse for the wear.

A look of worry crosses the halfling's face as Syr closes, but then breaks into a huge grin, as if he was just let in on a big secret. Contorting his body into positions that would make a bellydancer jealous, the little fellow flips and rolls away from the deadly duo at full speed (Accelerated tumble -10 pen., 23 and 22 vs. 15 and 17...no AoO's). He moves off toward the east and then disappears from Syr's view, though Bin can see him hiding not far away (Syr needs a Spot check of 34 to see him).

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battle field, the flying mage looks as if she is fed up with playing the pin cushion. Pulling away from Wynn (another AoO), she scoots toward the tree line and rapidly decends to ground level. Then she casts another spell. A large mass of huge inky black tentacles forms all around Belkior, Bin and Syr. The arms immediately reach out and try to squeeze the life out of all in the area. (Belkior, Bin and Syr must make a grapple check DC27 or be grappled.) If ungrappled, then you move at ½ rate through the tentacle area.

As the mage casts her spell, the guy with the two-weapons steps forward and in front of the spellcaster. And from his position by the blade barrier, the burly fighter drop his sword and pulls out a bow. He looks through the wall of blades in from of him and takes aim at the little pixie flying soooo high above him (Spot=18). His arrow passes harmlessly through the blade barrier and cuts into the spellcaster. (AC24 for 13...Angus has +4 to AC due to the Blade barrier)

Xenia - OoC
Saturday July 21st, 2007 3:07:17 PM

Currently Xenia is holding a Wand and a Potion. Note that last round, she put away the unused scroll, took out the potion, and took a 5ft step.

Please know that I do keep track of these things.

That's cool...I just had a funny image in my mind of Xenia juggling 3 or 4 things in her hands at a time...guess I have a sick sense of humor.---Nellie

I'm very strict with the players in Children of Chaos as to what they have in their hands at any one time. Though it is tempting to fudge, I require no less from myself. --Al

Bin slightly worried at the surrounding magic feels them grabbing at his ankles and wrists, yet he still manages to break free of the enchantment enough to cast his next spell "Hold in the name of Domi!" Then in his large form lumbers toward the object of his desire, to eliminate this evil scourge that would dare bring their dark wind here.
He then needs to make double move through the next five foot square, then yet another five feet to end at D3, out of the tentacled area.

Xenia (AC22, HP 1/63)
Saturday July 21st, 2007 4:03:46 PM

Fram frangle! This has gotta stop.

In the back of the rogue's mind is the thought that the longer she lets this go without healing, the more of a chance there is to leave a big scar across her middle. A Big Scar! Everything feels loose inside. Like the top half of her might just slide off the bottom at any moment.

And if it leaves a scar, what's Wynn gonna thing?!?

Xenia downs the potion and feels her feet lift off the ground.

This has gotta stop.

She reaches back and retreives the same scroll she had before. Then she moves another five feet. This'd work for Mage Girl too. A bit harder, but it would work. Probs. I mean, you'd think.

The bard smiles in grim satisfaction as he witnesses the diminishing capacity of his foes. (OOC: Syr was going to carry Bin out of the tentacles but then I scrolled back to see that it was unneeded. Also, I may or may not post until Wednesday. I'm going out of town on business, Al do you mind still being the supersub?)

OOC - No minus for range on the bow shot? Angus's AC with +4 would be 24. One minus for range would make that a miss.

Actually, I did include a minus for the range.---Nellie

Angus sees the fighter move towards the edge of the Blade Barrier, drop his weapon, pull out a bow and shoot him. Angus is not happy that they keep shooting at him.

Angus flies on a diagonal, downwards and slightly towards Lang. He lines up the Fighter with the Wizard and the Ranger and lets loose another Enlarged Lightning Bolt. This time the Bolt of Lightning hits all three of them.

DM George combat round 14 Man down  d20+2=20 d20+11=22 d20+8=28
Sunday July 22nd, 2007 8:19:40 PM

Bin evades the grasping tentacles and casts his spell at the fleeing halfling hoping to finally be done with the pesky assassin, but alas the halfling doesn't stop and manages to slip away. (made save roll of 20)

Xenia sucks down her fly potion and skips up 5' into the air and then retrieves a nasty surprise for the quad next round in form of a scroll.

Belkior struggles mightily against the tentacles but can't break free of their grasp.

Syr gets out of the tentacles his eyes darting around but he can't see the halfling anywhere.
He goes towards the direction that Bin guides him but is unable to see the little sneak.

Wynn takes his swing as the mage flies away and hits a heavy blow, he then follows up and whacks the mage for another 8 points of damage but sets himself up for some nastiness from the ranger

Angus swoops low and fires off his lightning bolt but is only able to get the 1/2 orc and the mage in its path. Both are hit and seem to try and get out of its way but none of the quad looks very happy at the moment. They are singed, cut, burned and bleeding.

Lang shoots away at the figher in front on him and hits him once for minimal damage (stone skin -10)

(ooc I had the whole thing written out and then closed the wrong screen. Your just gonna have to trust my rolls. Not starting all over again.)

The ranger attacks Wynn with whirling blades but only sinks one blade into the bard. Still he takes 11 points of damage.

The 1/2 orc aims his bow at Angus and shoots twice. Angus is saved on hit by the blade barrier but the other sinks deeply into his chest doing 13 points of damage.

The mage takes a 5' step south and decides to try and take out the spell user hitting him with 3 magic missiles putting Angus at -8

Bin sees the halfling take aim at Syr who is right next to him but isn't able to shout a warning to the monk. The arrow bites deep doing 331 points of damage and the halfling tumbles away from Syr disappearing once again into the shadows.

The tentacles fade away just as Belkior is about to be squeezed freeing the halfling. (ooc Nellie made a mistake on the size of the spell and thought this would be the easiest way to make it right.)

Gotcha ... Green eyes measure the distance from within the dark.

Mage Girl ain't looking too good and now she's within range. Maybe won't even need the scroll to shut her down. Maybe just put her down good right now.

Xenia aims the acid wand. Her voice rings out with the trigger word and the blob of acid flies straight at Mage Girl's mouth.

Eat that.

Dark clothing hides blood. Pretty much. The rogue flashes a brave grin a her sweetie flying in the trees. She turns her body, though, so hopefully he doesn't notice the big tear in her armor, the big tear in her armor that leads to the big tear in her body. Then she runs back toward the Silent area. She runs. That's 'cause running will let her hear when she's in and when she's out. Also doesn't let 'em know she's flying too.

She cuts west, coming in behind the trees. Coming in toward the Big Blades.

Please let the Silence stop. Please let the Silence stop.

Xenia slows way down and dives into the shadows. She listens. Is she out? She smiles. She can hear stuff.

Xenia uses her wand to good advantage hitting the mage in the face with the acid. She then darts away to another hiding place pushing the odds of someone seeing her to the extreme as injured as she is.

Belkior runs towards his comrades after crashing out of the grasping grasses.

Syr calls for aid but doesn't see the halfling. (Sorry but since you posted first before Bin, he can't guide you to the halfling. Maybe if you did it after he moved but not this way)

Angus decides that he is getting stuck with to many arrows and dives for cover and then casts a summoning spell for next round.

Bin charges (only way you can attack this round doing a double move) and whacks at the halfling only to have his hammer rebound of his stone skin.

Wynn takes a 5' step and pounds the weak link of the quad yet again causing a nasty cut.

Lang shoots again at the fighter wearing down his protective magic and causing a minor wound.

****************************************

The quad looks staggered. They are on their last legs all cut, battered, burned and bruised but something keeps them fighting. The determination in their eyes is fierce and they hope to kill at least one of you before they fall.

The halfling tumbles away yet again and points his bow once more at Syr having the arrow fly out and strikes the monk who is unaware of its coming. Syr takes another 32 points of damage.
Syr can see the pain in the but this time since he couldn't shoot and move this time.

The ranger again flails away at Wynn ineffectively bouncing most of his hits off the Bard except for the last which slips in and stings (critical hit)Wynn takes 13 points of damage

The 1/2 orc fighter glances around in frustration looking for the acid wielding rogue but doesn't see her. He sighs and aims his bow at the one causing the mage so much trouble shoots twice, hitting Wynn once for 12 points of damage.

The mage also growls in frustration as she can't see who hit her with acid and takes her frustrations out on Wynn as well. She moves 5 to the south and fires a two scorching rays at the bard. Both sear into the bard doing a total of 35 points of damage.

Angus calls out to his new air elemental "Engulf the wizard!" Angus then casts another summoning spell and readies three mephites to attack next round.

Air elemental in Whirlwind form moves into the space occupied by the Wizard. The winds pick leaves of the trees and the ground and give the elemental apparent substance as the leaves and dirt pound the wizard.

Bin tired of the halflings antics decides to cast Searing Light at the assassin before moving up to engage him some more. Then he steps toward him as far as possible, "Syr, he's right there!" Bin points to his exact location. Bin does not know that Syr can see him now, since he was invisible before. "Stay beside me, let's work as a team." Syr AC 27/26 HP 3/86 - Sub/Al
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 10:52:14 AM

Syrdeth Redbow kneels in the grass next to the still form of the little halfling pain in the keister.

"Good shot, Bin." He whistles low as he inspects the damage to the halfling's body. "Looks like you got him."

Syr looks down at the two arrows protruding from his own body. Only then, does the elfish monk notice the gallons of his own blood that flow from the vital wounds.

"Pain's a funny thing. Isn't it, Bin. I don't think I'd better try pulling these out just yet."

Xenia (AC22, HP 1/63)
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 12:02:09 PM

"Wynn." Xenia collapses to her knees, falling, quite literally, out of the shadows as the heightened energy of battle leaves with the end of battle itself. "I think I'm hurt, Wynn. I think it's bad."

All the pain held at bay up until this point pours over the walls of Xenia's defenses. It mobs the little defenders of the dark rogue's mental and emotional fort perpetrating countless atrocities against them. Through all this the single iconic image that keeps her going is her final sight of Wynn in his righteous anger. He had been magnificent.

After a little healing, though, the girl rogue is back to business. Moving from body to body, she checks for Stuff. (That's Stuff with a capital "S".)

"Hey, didn't the Priesty Guy say sump'in about Heart Seating a dragon? What's Heart Seating?"

"Adrenaline is a wonderful drug. A glorious gift from Alemi, for certain." Bin looks out around and up, for other sign's of battle or trouble. Not really hearing any, he wonders for a moment if him and Syr are the last of the shields standing, with yet more battle to ensue. Then he hears Xenia call for Wynn and his breathing shifts back into a normal mode. "Hold on a second Syr. I will take care of you, but first, Lets make sure this guy does not have anything hidden on him that can still harm us."

Bin casts Detect Poison then Detect Magic, and finally Detect Evil, in that order. Pointing out what may be detected, for Syr to take with caution.

Once back to the group. "I don't know if you want to take any of their parts for spell components or not, they had a lot of power. Then we need to burn them so we do not have to face them in the future."
Then he lets Syr search the halfling while he is healed.

Buzz ooc
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 9:34:11 PM

Ah, thanks George.
The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it.

So Bin will slowly pull weapons slightly from sheath without removing them, besides bow, then cast the detect Poison. If there is poison in a pouch or in a scabbard, it should be detected unless a thin layer of lead is around it. (Thus why Bin partially pulled out the weapons he may have.)

As far as only having one spell at a time, I'm confused why. Not questioning it's authencity, but since a person has to concentrate on each, I would think they could alternate between the two as needed. It makes it especially tough if..Detect magic can be made permanent with a permanency spell.

So Bin will Detect Poison first with the above conditions, then Detect Evil and scan the area around himself him and Syr as we(if Syr is willing) carry the halfling to the other dead villans (Detecting evil all around and above on the way)
IF still safe, he will cast Detect Magic, if no one else has by then.

Thank you for letting me restate my actions.

Good question....bring it to the rules board. Curious myself. Won't matter in this case.

The group sighs a collective sigh of relief when the quad members fall dead. Xenia, Syr, Angus all slump to the ground as their wounds overcome them as the adrenaline wears off. Everyone is beat up except for Lang who seems to have weathered the battle without a splatter of blood.

Bin starts to check out the fallen foes. His detects poison on the halfling. (closest person but doesn't find any. Going to stop the spells their or otherwise you are going to take some time moving around looking. Not sure everyone else wants to yet.)

Lang starts looting the quad pulling out nice looking items and piling them for later detect magics.

Wynn rushes to Xenia's side, sparing only a sideways glance at the slumped bodies of their foes. "Guess they were all connected to each other somehow..." he mutters.

Once at the rogue's side he bites back his obvious concern for her well being. He produces his waterskin and a clean rag and begins to clean her lacerations, humming in elvish as his healing powers flow into her terrible wounds (CLW=12 HP). Wynn then offers Xenia one of his potions of CMW

A crimson stain slowly spreads across the bard's shirt eventually enveloping most of his torso, a testament to the wounds he suffered in the battle.

Basking. That's what it is. Just basking in his light. There's just something about living on the edge that makes everything so much more ... intensifiable. Feeling his hands on her as he cleans way the blood. They clean away the pain and replace it with a burning of an entirely different kind.

Xenia tips her head to one side. Her white teeth close gently upon the edge of his finger as one hand quests within her pack for a scroll. On her lips she tastes the blood, both her blood and his. She reads the scroll, then her eyes meet his. Her hand reaches to his chest and she paints away some of his hurt as well.

What else could there be in the Wold at this moment? What else that mattered more than this?

Syr makes a last minute check on the ground for anything the halfling might have dropped. (Search 17) After Bin gives the okay, he stoops for the halfling's bow before hoisting the body of the little pin-sticker up onto his shoulder.

"Lets join the others, Bin. Why don't we let Belkior handle the healing. It's his specialty. Save your spells in case we need them."

"His magic is better used for healing anyway," the monk whispers. "He doesn't ... you know ... " Syr mimes pounding his fist into an imaginary enemy.

Hey friends. I need the report for last week posted. Email it to me too please so I can cross it off my list. ;)

Bin (AC: 26/26 HP: 53/53 True Seeing)
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 3:13:03 PM

Bin is not so squeamish he will not investigate further. After their body's are looted, Bin gets out his dagger and start cutting into the chest of the halfling. He takes his hammer and pops open the rib cage, then using his normal strength starts poping ribs out exposing the halfling's once beating heart. Without touching the heart, Bin examines it, lifting it aside with his dagger, looking for one of those "Heart Seeds".

If he sees one, he attempts to remove the heart without touching it. "Here. Look here." He looks to Angus and Xenia, "We should remove them all before we burn the bodies. Is there some way we can teleport these to the church of Alemi or Domi for study?"
Bin looks to Belkior, "We really need to contact our churches as well and let them know what we know so far. If we do lose our lives in this test, at least our churches can be prepared for what is out here, if they decide to send others. I am positive they will want to know of a Heart Seeded dragon."

If he does not see anything strange like a heart seed, he still suggests doing so, just in case they are seeded and we can not tell from physical inspection. Perhaps that can be another commune question?

"I am very pleased I did not have to cast my Commune spell earlier, I think a lot of those questions have already been answered, and now there are new questions to ask. We can recieve nine answers to our queries."

Bin talks with the group before casting his spell.
"Here are the questions I recommend."
1. Is Stone Gap in immediate danger?
2. Does Beth need to be rescued?
3. Has the villagers of Stone Gap started to receive the Heart Seeds yet?
4. Is the entrance to the dragons abode through a visible opening.
5. Besides the clerics of Ga'al, are there other classes we must beware of?
6. Did we miss any clues at the dragon print?

"These are just my ideas at the moment. If you all can come up with better questions, I will remove the less important ones, as needed."

The group gather the rest of the fallen and drag them all to one pile. Various spells are cast and the following is magic is revealed.

The halfling assassin:
3 arrows glow a strong magic
short bow stong magic
boots minor magic
cloak minor magic

human ranger
2 short swords moderate magic
belt strong magic
potion that Angus eventually identifies as rage

1/2 orc figher
belt with very strong magic

2 figurines of lions strong magic

Belkior reveals this story about his knowledge of Ga'al:

This god is the master of Domination. He believes that the Noble Races ultimately fail because they are imperfect. When created by The Jericho, they did not receive a strong enough character to be able to withstand the temptations of their own natures. This causes the Noble Races to live in a constant state of stress, worry, and fear. Thus, he offers to take all who will rely on him and install in them the strength of will that the Creator failed to give them. In return they will serve him totally, allowing him to dominate their lives and actions.

The Noble Races were not meant to stand upon their own two feet. This is why they constantly fail, bicker, fight, and die. The Noble Races need someone to dominate them and tell them how to live and what to do. Ga'al accomplishes this through magical plants called the heartseeds of Ga'al. Before the Year of Ascension, in the Empire of Aisildur, the religion of Ga'al was universal, so all children had heartseeds planted in their chests at age 12. Now that the Gods of Testing have ascended and Ga'al has joined that pantheon, the wards that protected Aisildur are gone, as are the magical protections put upon the Wall of Kaazul. Now Ga'al is sending out missionaries to recruit new followers from around the Wold. But now he is also charged by both the Gods of Testing as well as the Gods of Wold to plant heartseeds only in those who request it. However, the tradition continues without consent in Aisildur -- and occasionally in other places where his priests can get away with it.

Those who are heartseeded gain the morals and beliefs of Ga'al. Ga'al strives to get the Noble Races to realize that they have "failed" the test. The solution to this situation is to embrace Ga'al and have the morals and beliefs that are lacking supplied by him through his heartseeds.

Bin's inspection reveals when he opens the shirt a small piece of wood like substance protruding out of the halfling's chest. When he carves his way in, he discovers that it is a vine like growth encircles the heart and part of the spine.

The group starts healing and winding down. All short term spells end. The ones that last hours are still on.

Xenia and Wynn seem lost in their own world as they touch each others wounds and stare soulfully into each others eyes. Very touching in a strange sort of way.

Whne Belkior tells everyone about the Priests of Ga'al Angus comments "Not a nice group of fellows. I think we should hold up in their new temple and let the Dragon attack us there." Angus adds half smiling.

"So who wants to go back an have a few words with the priests back at Stone Gap?"

Heart *Seed*. Right. Not heart seat. 'Course. Heart Seat would be dumb.

Xenia places a kiss at the side of his face. Slim legs raise her from the ground without effort. Belkie's magic has worked its trick. There is no pain.

"Dunno, Angus. Didn't see Mage Girl working the wand." Xenia frowns at the blood that still covers the front of her clothes. She takes out a wand of her own.

"Wands aren't too hard, though." She speaks the word to her own wand and her hands begin to glow with magic. As she passes her hand down the length of her body, the blood and dirt cleans away. "All you gotta know is the right word."

"Anyone else needs cleaning up, just ask," the rogue calls out. "Lemme see that wand, Angus. I'll give it a try."

Clearing a spot away from the others, Xenia takes the captured wand in hand. She faces away from the camp, out into the night. "Get ready for anything," she warns. Xenia goes for it, pointing the effect of the spell a goodly distance away.

Thursday July 26th, 2007 12:05:49 PM

"I'd like that magic, please, Xenia," Belkior replies. He clears a clean spot to sit and awaits his cleaning.

"I would think that we will find the Ga'alian priest wherever the dragon is now. I don't know much about the ritual necessary to Heart Seed an individual, but I suspect that it must take some time. I think that would be true especially in light of your dissection of the ... of the halfling. Something that entwines around the heart and spine without killing the host must, I'd think, do so at a gradual pace."

"Why don't we concentrate on finding the dragon first, Bin. What do you think of these questions?"

1) Is the dragon willingly receiving the Heart Seed?
2) Is the dragon North of our position?
3) Is the dragon East of our position?
4) Is the dragon more than one day's journey away from our position?

"I think it's strange," Belkior muses half to himself, "the priest mentioned heart seeding other dragons. I wonder where he intended to find them? Dragons are very rare."

Wynn  d20+12=17
Thursday July 26th, 2007 12:24:14 PM

Wynn seats himself against the bole of a nearby tree as Xenia goes off to play with the captured magic items. The Year of Ascension, the Empire of Aisildur, the Wall of Kaazul; all names out of legend. He takes out his notebook and places ink and quill near at hand.

Wynn begins to write. Eyes raised to the stars, the feather tip of the quill brushing his lips, the bard wonders at where within the Wold they might be to chance such encounters. How far away could they be from their usual haunts? (Bardic knowledge 17.)

Lang & Sunshine
Thursday July 26th, 2007 9:25:16 PM

Lang looks at the pile of magic items that Angus determined from his spell.

"That's quite a bit of stuff. Should come in handy if it is usable or if we sell it."

"If nobody objects, I'll carry the Great Sword for now. Who knows it may come in handy."

Lang straps the sword to his back and adjusts it to get comfortable.

"Well what is out next move? Do we push on or do we head back to the village?"

"One other question. What reason will I have not to kill the two Gaal clerics when we get back to the village? That is if they are still man enough to be there."

Fun with Magic---Co-DM Nellie
Friday July 27th, 2007 1:21:39 AM

Healing is concluded and cleaning is done by some as others continue to examine the items that were taken off the dead.

After giving thought to the matter of the priest, Angus is fairly certain that the priest they encountered in the battle was not either of the ones the group met in Stone Gap.

Angus gives both the figures and the wand a good look over. It's a pretty simple matter to figure out that the figurines caused the lions to appear, but the activation word....now that's tricky. Angus searches his memory to tries to remember any activation phrases that might have been used in previous accountings of this type of wondrous item...but he just can't come up with it. Turning the figures over and over in his hands, he comes across a set of inscriptions in High Woldian...one on each figure (Knowledge Arcana 25 to decipher them). The wand on the other hand is almost chlid's play to the sorcerer. It's obviously arcane magic... looks to be of a standard construction material...yes, he would bet his big floppy hat that it's probably a wand of stoneskin. After Bin gives it a whirl, Xenia grabs the wand up and bingo bango, her dark skin soon becomes rock hard.

Questions are tossed around for the Commune spell as other suggest various courses of action, such as rest and returning to the village. (Please let me know the consensus as well as the finalized Commune questions so we can get rolling tomorrow).

Meanwhile, Wynn once more ponders where in the Wold they might be...and once more comes to the conclusion that they are close to his old stomping grounds of the Windborne Hills. (Not exactly sure what kind of information you're trying to gather here.)

"Hey, Lookit me! I'm a golem!" Xenia stomps around the camp in the best imitation that a slim girl can portray of a hulking stone monster. "Well, now we know where from they got that Stone stuff. Useful little thing, this."

"I think you're right, Belkie." Xenia runs her palms up and down his armor and the weird cat legs, before picking up the evil halfling's bow and nocking one of her own normal arrows onto the string. "I think we should follow the dragon." Xenia picks up a small stone. "Hey, can anyone put a light spell on this for me?"

"We could go back to the Stone Gap place. That's where the other two priests are. But short of torturing them, which would make us real popular, I don't think they're gonna give up their friend to us."

After receiving the spell, the rogue measures off one hundred and thirty paces before she figures the difficulty to be great enough. Then she walks back, turns quickly and fires a shot off through the darkness at the glowing point of light in the distance. (Hit?)

Friday July 27th, 2007 11:39:53 AM

"I could keep one of those lions, Angus." Wynn's voice is distant, and his eyes do not rise from his journal. "Xenia could hold onto the other. "If you don't find the trigger word, we'd have the best chance of activating them."

Then the bard lapses back into silence, the only sound coming from him, the skritch and scribble of his quill.

(OoC: Sorry, forgot that the question of where we were was already answered.)

Bin
Friday July 27th, 2007 4:19:45 PM

Ooc: Sorry, a lot to put down, but I think it is worth reading.
Bin ponders the things that have recently occurred. As Xenia plays with her new spell, Bin thinks back to the huge elemental that almost snuffed his life out, if it were not for the quick actions of his friends. Bin want's to remove the others hearts and inspect the inside of their chest cavities. Do some have more growths then others? Bin wants to know if it's possible to tell if someone had the heart seed before another?

Bin comments on the figurines, "If we discover the command word and Belkior can use them, I suggest we let him. There may be a time when no one can get to him before he is killed. This last battle was an excellent example, if not for the True seeing spell, that halfling would have killed us both. He needs extra protection for times like that."

Bin casts his Detect Evil spell and checks all the loot they found, then the surrounding areas as well. "Let's make sure none of those items are aligned against us."

Bin lays the bodies out beside each other, for his speak with dead spells in the morning. He places their hearts in a sack, then presents them to Angus. "If we don't send them to the church, we need to destroy them. I have a concern, that as long as those seeds exist, the priests will know where they are. If we carry them, they will know our exact location." Bin changes the subject while working, "I wonder if these four were willing to take the heart seed? If not, they may have been forced to attack us. If that is also the case, perhaps we can bring them back to help us? We will need to purify the hearts in some way, before put back into their bodies for the raise though. I doubt just removing the seed will be enough."

Bin cleans off his bloodied hands before casting his commune spell.
"Oh mighty and powerful Domi, please answer our questions to better bring praise to your name."
1. "Is the dragon spoke of by the priest of Ga'al to the North?"
2. "Is the dragon spoke of by the priest of Ga'al to the East?"
3."Is the dragon more then one day's travel by walking?"
4. "Are the priests of Ga'al in Stonegap heart-seeding villagers yet?"
5. "Are there more priests to deal with besides the three we are aware of?"

Syr cringes away from Lang as he displays the Great Sword. "Speaking from personal experience, I would say anything this half orc was carrying," he nudges the body with a toe, "is VERY powerful. "He rubs the now heal whole in his side. Can I dub that sword the Impaler?"

Reaching down into the pile of magical loot, he dons the half orc's belt. "If no one has any objections, I'll use this for the time being." Later he looks at the pile again and if the boots are not taken, Syr will wear those too."

Angus
Friday July 27th, 2007 11:57:21 PM

Angus does not take the bag of root infested hearts that Bin presents. "I would like to drop the hearts of in Stone Gap, but lets see what Domi has to say first."

After hearing the results of Bin's commune, Angus adds "We need to use what we can from the enemy to make us stronger. Syr how does the belt feel? Who will take the rage potion? Lang takes the bag of hearts from BIn since Angus does not seem to want them. Lang opens the bag and takes a deep whiff and opens it for Sunshine. "I think we know what we will be tracking from now on."

Handle animal 28.

Lang closes the bag.

"Sunshine lets practice." Lang opens the bag for Sunshine "Speak. Thats a good boy. You will let us know when the evil Ga'alians are around." Lang closes the bag, but takes a heart out, breaks the plant in several places and crushes it in his large clawed hands and throws it "Fetch boy. Good boy. Now you know what to attack."

Once Sunshine brings it back, Lang will give a toothy grin. "That is more like it. We will be ready next time."

When Angus talkes of the rage potion Lang lifts his head. "I will take it unless someone has better use for it. I will take the arrows too, unless we think it is better to split them up. Wynn, do you want to try the small bow, I favor mine?"

After blindly activating the wand, Xenia moves on to the halfling's bow. Moving well outside of normal range, Xenia draws back and takes aim at the glowing stone. Although the arrow wobbles a bit, it still manages to clang against the rock (a hit, but just barely).

Various suggestions are passed around about how best to utilize the figurines, but one thing is sure...no one will be able to use them until the activation phrase is figured out.

Bin sets about the gruesome task of removing the heartseeds from the figures. It takes quite a bit of time, but he eventually pries the invasive plant from the spine. He does have to cut out quite a bit of heart material to get them out of the chest cavities. They all look to be about the same size, and it is not clear whether any one person was seeded longer than another. Casting his spell, Bin does not detect evil on any of the foes equipment. Nor does he detect any evil in the surrounding area.

Cleaning himself up, Bin prepares to Commune with Domi. He asks his questions and soon receives answers.

1. "Is the dragon spoke of by the priest of Ga'al to the North?" No
2. "Is the dragon spoke of by the priest of Ga'al to the East?" No
3."Is the dragon more then one day's travel by walking?" Haste could bring you to your goal in a day.
4. "Are the priests of Ga'al in Stonegap heart-seeding villagers yet?" No
5. "Are there more priests to deal with besides the three we are aware of?" Unclear
6. "Is the priest we saw this evening the high priest of the area?" Yes
7. "Are the villagers safer, if we complete our test before we return to Stonegap?" Unclear
8. "Is the entrance to the dragons abode through a visible opening?" Yes
9. "Were all four attackers, willing recipients of the heart seed?" Unclear

Bin gives the heartseeds to Angus, who in turn passes them to Lang. Lang spends a bit of time working with Sunshine to get him used to the scent of the unusual parasite. The loyal dog takes easily to the game of fetching the ground up pieces. What remains to be seen, however, is how practical it will be to identify a heartseed by scent when it is still implanted.

Syr takes the belt and contemplates the boots. It's hard to tell what the magical properties might be until the items are actually tested.

"I'll take at least one of those arrows, Lang," Xenia chimes in, eying the bow and nodding in response to the results of her little experiment.

"That's some good answers, Bin," she says, returning to the pile of loot. "So the village is alright. And the Dragon is, like, kind of a day's march away, huh? Wonder what Domi means by 'Haste', though. That's a puzzler."

She begins picking through the Stuff.

"Bet the little plompy butt halfling's cloak is for to let him hide better." She puts it aside. From the pile, she plucks the ring that the half-orc was wearing and slips it on her finger.

She takes off her own cloak and sets it down beside the one that the Mage Girl used to own.

"Hey, can one of you magic guys do the Detecting Magic thing on these two cloaks. Mine is a Resisting Cloak, Magic Level Two. I'm thinking hers is sump'in similar."

She eyes the Ranger's swords and his belt.

"Lemme try a little 'speriment to try figure out what these things can do," she says.

The rogue takes up one of the ranger's shortswords and his belt, and finds the stout bole of a tree. From her haversack, she draws her own shortsword of fine masterwork quality. The blade shines as she draws it from its sheath.

Lining up each cut, she chops into the tree ten times. Then the slim rogue takes up the ranger's sword, and just below her first cuts, she makes ten cuts with the ranger's sword. In the light from the stars up above, then, Xenia examines the two test cuts to see how much more damage the ranger's sword did over her own. (Rolls are below. An exact HP result is not necessary, but see the note below.)

Then she puts on the ranger's belt, takes up her own trusty sword, and makes another ten cuts. Same experiment with a slight twist.

Rolls and Actions
Xenia's MW Shortsword Damage: 5+4+2+1+4+1+3+3+1+6=30
Ranger's Shortsword Base Damage: 5+4+4+6+3+1+3+4+2+1= ???/33
Xenia's MW Shortsword w/Ranger's Belt Damage:1+2+4+4+6+5+3+3+2+6= ???/36
Note: If you need a guide by which to evaluate this, consider the following. Even a +1 sword will add +10 to the damage. That would make a damage comparison of 43 vs the unaugmented shortsword damage of 30. That's a third again greater and, I'd think, would be decidedly noticable. A +2 Shortsword would add +20 and a +3 shortsword would add +30 or twice again the damage. Same concept applies to the ranger's Belt if the belt involves Strength.

Wynn closes his journal. He shakes his head at Lang's question. By way of explanation he inclines his head, pointing in Xenia's direction.

The bard packs up ink and quill then stands, brushing dirt and grass from his trousers.

"I don't think we have to worry about Stone Gap, Bin," he says. "Stone Gap is behind us," he hooks a thumb over his shoulder to the Northwest. "And Domi seems to say that the dragon, and probably the priest is in the exact opposite direction." Wynn stares off toward the dark silhouette of the massive mountains to the southeast. "I think that means that our main mission is to stop the heart seeding of the dragon."

Wynn wanders over to the pile of magic items.

"Are you planning to prepare another commune with your god for tomorrow, Bin?" the bard asks. "We would know how much time we had if we knew when the dragon was going to be heart seeded. If it's going to be heart seeded tomorrow, then we may have to rush. If it's already been heart seeded, or if it won't be tomorrow, then we can take more time."

Wynn looks again to the mountains, attempting to estimate the remaining distance. (In one of the first DM posts, you gave a distance of 30 miles. Could I get a current best guess?)

"Either way, it would be best to get a good night's sleep tonight," he says. Then the bard hums a cantrip and goes about fulfilling Xenia's request for the detection of magic.

Bin
Monday July 30th, 2007 12:12:03 PM

Relating his findings to the group, Bin does feel better about Beth's predicament. "We are indeed lucky Domi wants us to succeed. He did not have to give such complete answers as the travel time to the dragon. What does bother me is the question about dealing with more then the three priests we have seen, it said unclear. This may well mean we are now at war with Ga'alians, after we are done with this test."
"I will not assume what our mission is, nor whether it is the dragon we must prevent from having a heart seed. I believe this test is to determine our own hearts worth. Whatever happens, we must choose the greater good for us to succeed and to do that, we must determine if these four were heart seeded willingly, which was also unclear. If in fact they were once good guys, like us, and forced to serve Ga'al, we should raise them from the dead. I will take extra Speak With Dead spells tomorrow. We will speak with each. If they decide they do not want to answer willingly, we can assume they are not of a good alignment at one time. I am not willing to turn away any good help we can find out here."

In regard to the Commune spell. "I do not wish to tempt the patience of my god with another Commune so soon. At least not in regard to the last subjects."
(ooc: I'm not sure how you guys do Commune spells in 3.5. In 2ed, a Commune spell can only be done once a month to avoid really upsetting the god. If that is not the case, Bin would not be opposed to it again.)

Wynn (2nd Post)
Monday July 30th, 2007 1:09:58 PM

"I am ... already at war ... with the Ga'alians, Bin," Wynn replies, his voice made halting by his concentration. "The acceptance ... of dominion ... over one's will ... "

There is a pause as Wynn finishes his examination.

" ... is worse than death. I oppose it."

Syr

Syr shivers when Bin mentions speaking with the dead and looks around for something to do. Fixing his eyes on Xenia, he watches in admiration as the rogue begins her testing. Yawning from lack of sleep he contemplates doing the same but decides to help clean up instead. Avoiding the bodies, the elf takes any unclaimed magic items that he can carry and tosses them in his backpack. Once back at the camp, he will lay them out once more for anyone to take before packing them up again once they start travelling.

Belkior
Monday July 30th, 2007 10:35:07 PM

The halfling cleric listens to the discussion but isn't paying complete attention. He's been thinking of what the group has learned about the Ga'alians and the dragon.

"Thank you for offering me the figurines. But, my oath to not injure a living being may interfere with my use of the items."

OOC - Is it a new day?

DM George
Monday July 30th, 2007 10:56:45 PM

The group debates over magic items and splits up the loot they took from the downed quad. Many experiment with items testing sharpness and different ways they might work.

Xenia starts chopping on a poor defensless tree with her sword and the other two magical ones and while one seems to bite a little deeper on most blows, it is hard to tell the difference. The second shortsword seems about the same as her masterwork but occassionally seemed to take an extra bite out of the tree. (ooc pushing things here Al, Best answer your gonna get)

Xenia also experiments with both belts and they both seem to make her stronger. The one on the half orc seems to have stronger magic and make her more buff.

You do notice that the quad didn't have any basic supplies on them so you doubt that the camp is very far away unless magic was used to transport them. Also they had no coins, spell books or other items normally carried when you have to travel.

After the experiments, autopsy's, conversations and general looting and cleaning up, the little light left has fallen and the group finds themselves sitting around in the dark. To dark to do any tracking unless light was provided and Lang still thinks penalties would apply.

Syr picks up the remaining magic and stows it away

Bin wonders if it is right to keep nagging his god with little questions. (Buzz that is up to you. Might be some consequenses. Never know until you try!)

If you let the night pass, please list all spells for the morning. Also remember Belkior moves at the same base speeds that you do, now that he has cat legs. You might have come farther than you originally figured

Xenia
Tuesday July 31st, 2007 10:15:42 AM

The sun comes up on the last watch. Xenia watches as the orange glow rises over the dark southeastern mountains.

A dragon. They're gonna meet a dragon. They're gonna maybe fight a dragon, and all for some stupid test.

The rogue's thought go back to the image of herself decked out in sparklies sitting up on a throne. Is that her? Is that what she really wants? Xenia searches herself for a part that might aspire to such grandeur. There's a lotta stuff in there. A lotta stuff. But most among it is Wynn. If being grand and all like that is what he wants then she'd follow him there.

She rises and walks the camp once more, thinking 'bout things. Thinking 'bout Wynn, watching the camp too, his silhouette in the dawn light. Thinking 'bout destiny and what it might really be like. And thinking 'bout the day to come and the things she'd taken from the Heart Seed Squad. Would they really help? Would they really help them when faced with a dragon?

List of things Xenia has
One of the three arrows from the halfling
halfling's short bow
One short sword from the ranger
belt from the ranger
ring from the half-orc

Wynn breathes in the morning air. He looks across the clearing at Xenia, outlined in the morning light. Her wound yesterday had been severe. He had not said anything at the time, but it was clear that it had almost cost her her life.

Today they would need every advantage. The bard wracks his brain for everything that he has ever learned about dragons. (Rolls below. To speed things up, I'm going to take some small liberties as to what I think the rolls might give me. More details would be nice, though. If you think Wynn deserves them.)

Bin
Tuesday July 31st, 2007 12:24:44 PM

Before sleep, Bin hears Wynn's proclamation of war against all Ga'alians. Bin knows that bards are emotional in the best of times and hot tempered at the worst. Watching his lover almost perish didn't help much either. Just to calm him down a bit before bed, Bin jests, "Your right Wynn. As soon as we are done here, we will all march on their capitol and lay siege to it until they succumb to an unconditional surrender and toss aside the ideas of Ga'al. I think we better get some rest, that does not sound easy."

Bin's sleep is both restful and disturbing. Dreams come and go from his mind, but in each, he see's Beth. Most of them obscure, but in one part, she is wearing priestly robes and preaching to a congregation. Bin is in the back, behind her. Much older with pride in his eyes as he watches her.

The sunlight peeks up over the horizon and it's beam hit's Bin in the eyes enough to stir him from his slumber. After relieving himself of the nights accumulation of waste, he begins his stretching exercises, then prays for his spells, before sitting down for breakfast.
'Wynn, I'm not opposed to asking Domi more direct questions, so if you can come up with more, along with anyone else, I have another.

"Belkior, last night you didn't know if you could use the lions but let me ask you this. If you are being attacked, would you not call on the aid of one of us to protect you? I don't see the lions as much different, as long as you use them to defend yourself, instead of sending them out to attack others. If in doubt, do your own divinations on the matter, no one here knows more about Alemi then you."

Bin begins the arduous task of speaking with the dead. If any of them were unwilling to receive the heartseed, substitute the last question to each with, "would you like to help us defeat the Ga'alians?"

He starts with the halfling.
Did you receive the heartseed willingly?
How many clerics stay near the dragon?
Is it South of us?
If question one is yes..How were you to return after you defeated us?

The half orc.
Did you receive the heart seed willingly?
What is the name of the high priest?
Where is your camp?
If yes... Are there more guards protecting the dragons abode?

The human ranger.
Did you receive the heart seed willingly?
How did you find us?
Why did you all perish at once?
If yes...was the plan to kill or capture us?

The human mage.
Did you receive the heart seed willingly?
How were you to return after you defeated us?
How long have you been heart seeded?
If yes...Where do you keep your spell book?

Angus looks forward to sleep and wakes refreshed and thinks of ways to fight a red dragon. "Anyone that can cast resist energy fire, take the spell today and anyone that can't speak up so that we have you covered. That is unless you do not want to be protected."

Angus stretches and goes over his spells in his head "I can cover myself and one other person."

Angus looks to Lang "Well, where are they or where did they come from?"

After everyone has collected the items they choose he gathers up the rest. (OOC: I'll do an inventory to make sure he is unencumbered when I get home) If they load appears to heavy, he asks Wynn to help with the load.

Unsure whether he should pair up with Lang again, Syr hangs back with the main group when they are breaking camp. He looks over at Angus and nods his head toward Lang.

Finally, he dons the new boots and walks around gingerly testing them out for comfort and fit.

Tuesday July 31st, 2007 9:41:20 PM

The halfling cleric accepts the Figurines with reluctance. Belkior has voiced his concerns about using the devices but, since they probably can't be used for some time anyway, he might as well carry them.

"Before we set out ... the three scouts are going to have Status cast on them. If you can't report back using the Message spell, simply stop moving. I'll know and we can come towards you."

"I've got two Protection from Energy spells memorized, and four Resist Energy spells. If we're certain about what kind of dragon it is, or if the scouts send that information back by spell, I can put a lot of protection on people."

The group gets up and Bin starts his grisly task of talking to the dead. He first questions the halfling. His answers are:
1. Yes
2. One
3. Yes
4. We were to walk until met.

No questions are answered the 1/2 orc

The ranger answers:
1. Yes
2. Our master directed us to you
3 Our heartseeds linked us
4. You would have met Gargul

The mage answers:
1. Yes
2. Walking until we were met.
3. 13 years old
4. With the master in the lair

The group prepares to leave as Wynn tells the group of his knowledge on dragons. (You now have all the knowledge you can find in the Monster Manual.) Basically dragons are smart tough and very very dangerous. Some have spell use and all have a devastaing breath weapon to use.

Lang doesn't have any trouble following the trail left by the quad and the priest. After several hours of tracking, Lang starts cursing quite loudly. Even Xenia has no trouble telling the tracks of a dragon left in the mud. The humanoid tracks seem to come from it as if they were carried to this field. The tracks were heading steadily Southwest and a group of smaller mountains can be seen in that direction. At this point you are about 10 miles away from them.

The march continues towards them and game seems to be thinning out. Where it was once pleniful, now the area seems almost deserted by larger game. After the rest of the day, you find yourselves at the base of a trio of small mountains. The climbing would be tough but not impossible. These are almost very large steep hills.

While night is still a couple of hours away, the group is at a logical stopping point. Will they press on or camp for the night?

Wednesday August 1st, 2007 8:50:17 AM

The halfling cleric looks around at his companions as they debate whether to continue walking or stop. Belkior doesn't care either way, but he does have some thoughts to share.

"One of the big hazards with fighting a dragon is that they can fly. At night we won't be able to see a dragon in the air as easily. Is it going to be clear enough tonight to easily see a dragon coming?"

Belkior was directing his question mainly to the elves and half-elves in the party that have better vision than him.

"Lang, how far ahead of us would you say the dragon and human are? And does it make anyone suspicious why the human and dragon are walking, when the dragon can fly?"

Xenia - OoC
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 9:52:53 AM

I'm a bit confused by the description. Let me recap and see if I have things right.

1) We follow the tracks of the Priest and the Quad.
2) After a time, we reach an area with Dragon tracks. My impression is that they just appear, as though the dragon had landed there.

Here's where I become confused. You say that Humanoid Tracks come from this. This, I'm thinking are Humanoids dropped off by the Dragon. This could mean that the Quad was brought to this spot by the dragon and headed in our direction.

Or, you say that "the" tracks head southwest from here. Dragon and humanoid? That could mean that the dragon landed exactly on the path that the Quad took to get to the attack and that it dropped off an unknown number of humanoids who headed off to the southwest. If that's the case, then what happened to the Quad's trail? Does it follow the same path?

Lang & Sunshine
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 1:19:37 PM

Lang is disturbed by the Dragon tracks (Not sure if there are still Quad tracks to follow?) but presses on to the low mountains "Are you going to keep up their Syr, I thought you were fast. We are suppose to be out front." The big ranger teases the tiny monk.

Lang looks to Bin "I have no idea where the dragon and priest are, but am guessing in the mountain up yonder."

At the base of the hills, Lang comments "I do not like the idea of camping close to a dragon lair, but climbing in the dark may not be good for everyone."

Lang will look for a campsite that is out of sight particularly from the air.

"Good point Belkior, that means no fire to give us away and everyone curled up behind their favorite boulder for some protection? If they know we are coming, let's get ready for another nocturnal visit?" Looking at Angus before he leaves he suggest, "This elf needs less rest, why don't I sleep now and stay on watch from midnight until dawn? Other than that how about 3 teams of 2?"

Unless something changes, Syr finds a semi comfortable spot and beds down for the night. The last thoughts on his mind are of home and a particular person he is missing.

Bin
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 2:00:51 PM

The Protector is visibly saddened by the answers he received. He is not disappointed that he got three out of four of them to answer. No, that is more then he expected, but that they started getting the seeds as early teenagers. Way to young to decide for themselves such things. They are as young as Beth or younger. Perhaps it is war.
Bin does not want to think that all Gal'alians are evil, but he does not know enough about them to prove himself right. This episode with two races normally good has led him to other conclusions.
"What should we do with the bodies? We have no time to bury them." He shrugs his shoulders, "I suppose the crows have to eat also, as well as the maggots."

Bin makes sure they have the hearts and destroys them, to where these four will need more then a raise dead to bring them back.

"Lets keep in mind, these four were supposed to be met by someone or something on their return trip. We may be able to get the element of surprise on them, unless their master knows they were all defeated."

"Syr, if everyone has sorted through what they would like to try on, I will wear what might be left."
ooc: I see a couple of cloaks and a set of boots, that might be useful. Maybe the headband as well if it's not being worn. Even if it's just intellect, it can help with a skill roll that needs it. He will wear the more powerful magic over the lesser ones, of what's left. Human ranger had belt with strong magic, Human mage had a cloak of moderate magic, Half orc fighter had a ring of moderate magic. I don't think I can wear the halflings boots, even as a small human, unless they shrink to fit, then he will wear them. Let me know if someone is wearing them already. I didn't see any names on the lists next to those items.

Xenia  d20+21=38 d20+16=33

Dragon tracks. Side by side with people tracks.

"Well, that kinda sorta answers the question of whether this dragon is getting a willing heart seeding, huh?" the dark rogue says more to herself than to anybody else. "Don't see much a anything but kill or be killed meeting here."

Working with Angus, Xenia does a preliminary probe of the nearby hills.

"You notice Dead Guys said 'Lair', Angus? I'm thinking maybe a cave. If we can catch this thing inside a cave, maybe we can, like, avoid the problems Belkie was talking 'bout. You know, from it, like, Flying and all."

Her eyes are peeled. They look to the sky. Her ears listen for the wind. This is dangerous ground. Common sense sez just to get the fram jamblie out of this place. Only the thought of Wynn keeps her here. (Spot 38, Listen 33)

DM George Clarifications
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 6:42:27 PM

Lang believes that the quad and the priest rode on dragon back to the clearing where he saw the tracks. It looks like the dragon landed, people dismounted and started moving towards your camp where you encourntered them.

The dragon never walked anywhere substantial. He might have moved around a little bit but looks like he then flew away. Who knows where. You then keep going in the direction you believe they came from. You have no real proof of this but kept heading towards the mountains.

DM George
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 11:34:40 PM

Angus casts some spells and launches himself into the air. He flies higher and higher scanning the area in the dimming light. Still as he climbs he sees a valley a couple of miles away. He sends a message back to his friends but they can't hear him or he them (read the range of message. Not far at all)

He is curious and starts off in that direction. His 10 minutes will be up before he can get there but he does see a large cave mouth dotted in the side of the mountain about halfway up.

The group discusses tactics, defensive encampments, and should they have a fire that night. General concensus seems to be leaning to staying here the night and then moving on in the morning.

They nervously bed down for the night and watch the skies for dragon attack while they debate if all Ga'alians are evil. Can they be saved from Ga'als dominance. Is the dragon heartseeded. Are they crazy to beard a dragon in its lair?

The morning sun rises without mishap during the night though sleep was hard coming for some as animals prowled around making noises.

Need spell lists and a definitive list of who is carrying what magic item from the quad. I see people claiming things but I think we might be getting some duplicates. Please read the others posts and make sure everyone has different items. List the item you are carrying, and if you are wearing it. Also need spell lists for the day.

Bin ooc
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 12:57:30 AM

Bin will only wear what is left after everyone else chooses what they want to wear from the quad.

Syr
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 1:50:32 AM

The elf greets the morning sun by going through his stretching exercises. His mouth grimaces after taking a bite of the hardbread but he manages to consume the dry food. As the party sets out, he motions for Xenia to take the spot up front near Lang and lingers back with the rest of the group. Asking Wynn as they start out, "Any sage advice on dragons, O musical one?"

Here is the latest inventory as I read it. Please note the distinction between wearing (wielding) and carrying.

The halfling assassin:
3 arrows glow a strong magic (2 Lang, 1 Xenia, carrying)
short bow stung magic (Xenia, carrying)
boots minor magic (Bin, Wearing)
cloak minor magic (Bin, Wearing)

human ranger
2 short swords moderate magic (1 Xenia, wearing 1 Syr carrying)
belt strong magic (Xenia,worn)
potion that Angus eventually identifies as rage (Lang, carrying)

1/2 orc fighter
belt with very strong magic (Syr, worn)
banded mail strong magic (Syr, carrying)
great sword moderate magic (Lang, wielding)
ring moderate magic (Xenia,wearing)

human mage
2 figurines of lions strong magic (Belkior, carrying)
headband of moderate magic (Bin Wearing)
wand (Angus, carrying)
cloak of moderate magic Syr, carrying)

Thanks! DM George

Angus is please with his recon trip and relate what he finds to everyone back at base camp and he tells Xenia when whe makes it back as he did not see the rouge on his way back (spot 13).

"Bin told us the Dragon is in a obvious spot and we have a great big cave over these hills and in the mountain across a valley. Not sure how long it will take us to get there?"

OOC: What is the estimated travel time based on the terrain?

After breakfast Angus looks at the Shields "We can no longer bunch up in our travels with a dragon in the area. What is everyones thoughts of having Lang and Xenia up front a hundred or so feet in front. Syr can hang back with the rest of us as he can move forward quickly. The rest of us should keep at least 15 feet apart from one another in the main group."

Angus stands and comments "This travel will be a lot more difficult as a human. No one do anything crazy as we have to spell up before meeting the dragon. Keep those resist fire spells handy and remember, I want to cast stoneskin on everyone before combat."

Lang checks his gear and the weight of the new great sword and give Sunshine a good scratching before looking over to Xenia "Well shall we go lead this rag tag group."

Lang starts out up the hill attempting to find the easiest path for those smaller than he.

Lang looks down on the group from half way up the hill can calls out to Syr "Keep good care of the slow pokes and I will see you up front if we get in a pinch." The bugbear barely talks the rest of the day as he does not want to give anything away.

"As we draw near, Angus, I can help Lang and Xenia get even closer. Invisible, they might be able to get a look at the others that we'll be facing, and with that, we'll be able to devise a plan of attack."

Wynn's voice is calm and cold as the wind at the prospect of meeting the Ga'alites and their dragon. This has become more than just a Test.

(As we get closer 5 min or 3000 feet away, Wynn will cast Invisibility on Lang and Xenia.)

Then, with a sudden rush, the slim dark rogue slams into Wynn. Her arms wrap about him and her lips crush against his.

"Don't die." Her whisper is fierce. Then, before her heart can soften any further, she breaks away, returning to the front where Lang and Sunshine await.

"Lets go." All business now. With the halfling's bow in hand, Xenia watches Lang's back as he forges a way through toward Angus' cave. (Spot 37, Listen 22)
