The End of the Black Sword
The Eye of Gargul

Looming on the Horizon - DM Donna
Thursday June 14th, 2007 4:20:37 AM

The trip across the island is uneventful, for the most part.

The efforts to protect themselves from the corrupting influence of the Black Sword are successful. Between their support of one another and the extra Protection from Evil spells cast, the Black Sword remains locked (and sulking) in its box.

On the fifth day of trekking, the outline of a very large settlement comes into view. In fact, this settlement could very well count as a large town, or even a small city.

The dwellings are definitively of a more permanent nature than that of Fffiffft...and the populace here is more numerous as well.

And it's all just waiting for the Chosen to come in and discover its secrets.

(OOC: Cayzle...did this town/city actually have a name, or do I get to name it..?)

Winterglade
Thursday June 14th, 2007 5:58:27 AM

"Winterglade doesn't like how quiet the bloody thing keeps. It's going to spring a surprise on us as soon as it is able, you just wait and you will see. Winterglade wouldn't take into the city if it can be avoided. And he has absolutely no idea where are we going to put it while on a ship."

[Hello Adam!]

"I suggest dangling it over the side Glade." The minotaur smiles. "Of course I'm kidding. But I agree, someone, a couple actually, should watch the box and others should enter the city." He lowers his voice. "The sword will attempt to take anyone's mind if it can."

"Who wants to stay with the box and who wants to enter the city? I think the wemics should definately enter. Maybe Gecktar and Flat-top with the box?"
-------------------
Heyoo stays close to his minotaur friend and occasionally sniffs the sword box.

"OK! I'll stay with the box! As long as there's a magic uer with me!!" Flat-top feel uneasy as if some one is watching them?? That's inposible?? They're out in the open, but still that feeeling??

(Almot time for you to post Adam, Come on jump in, we woun't hurt you much?)

Cayzle OOC
Thursday June 14th, 2007 10:14:46 AM

The town on the eastern shore is called Velawia in wemic, Chessford in common. It holds about 5,000 wemics. One clan we met there is Clan Sandifurr, Some Sandifurr wemics we met there (in 2002) included a girl cub, Sheras; her mother, Rhasa; her granny, Alasa; and her uncle, Tynyc.

The houses in the township are organized by clan. In some cases, more than one house is within a certain area when one house becomes too small for the clan. Each house has inner areas with lots of glassless windows. The windows close like barn doors when it rains. In good weather, liontaurs recline on perches inside each window.

The clan houses tend to get poorer and less prestigious as you get farther from the center of the township. Among them is the Sandifurr clanhouse: a large covered porch with ramps heading up outside to the three levels of the house and down into the basement. There is much open area in the house in the center where all three levels of the house can be seen.

Of Chosen who have been here before, only Brahmah and Flat-top are still with the party (Zeoll was dead at the time).

Zeoll  d20+12=15 d20+12=21 d20+12=16
Thursday June 14th, 2007 4:27:17 PM

Zeoll hates to leave the sword, but agrees that it would be a disaster to bring it into the town. It would affect all kinds of people near it, and only do damage.

Yes, Gilles and Flat-top should stay. Maybe one more Taur too.

Zeoll wants to enter because he hopes his skills at gathering info will help fid the Gargulite that might be here waiting for them. Or to find passage to Bridge Isle if not. As a liontaur, he has an advantage there too.

Brahmah should definitely go. He has been here before, and that can only help.

Toros or Mosushi would make a good third.

In town, Zeoll does his best to make discreet inquiries about the following:

Any follower of Gargul in the area: Gather Info Check 15
Any word about Vargas or his minions: 21
Any ships on which the Chosen might book passage to Bridge Isle: 16

Brahmah
Thursday June 14th, 2007 5:09:51 PM

Brahmah agrees with Zeoll's assessment of this matter and right along with them.

As for the loot from Vargas and his cronies, Brahmah is concerned, but intrigued by the Friend Shield ring.
"I know these rings come in pairs. Someone, like his cleric, would be wearing the other. I want to make a radical suggestion. If I were to wear it, and I say this because I wouldn't place anyone else in harms way, and you all do massive damage to me all at once, until I drop, that would certainly remove another minion from the picture. But we don't know if they will have thought to remove the ring or not so it would put me at risk."
He smiles. "I know. There is a thin line between brave and stupid... and I just crossed it. But you can't say it not innovative." He winks.

"I wouldn't be opposed to using, for the time being, the ring of Freedom of Movement. That is until we clear up who gets what gear. I will certainly loan my ring +1 to anyone needing one for the time being.

I think it prudent to consider the fact we are now splitting the party. We should get use from these items."

Zeoll  d20+8=19
Thursday June 14th, 2007 7:56:10 PM

Zeoll listens to Brahmah, at first with confusion, then with understanding, then with a growing grin. When the full impact of this plan blooms in his mind, he can only laugh and laugh!

"Oh my! Oh my! Oh! Oh! Oh!" Zeoll actually falls over laughing!

[OOC: In real life, Jay, I think I scared the baby by laughing so hard! LOL!]

Finally, Zeoll wheezes himself upright. At last he can talk again. "Brrahmah! Brrahmah! Lorrds help us! You arre brrilliant! What a funny fabulous fantastic idea! My frriend, you are a genius!"

Zeoll thinks this is a great idea! Well worth it! Moreover, he suggests casting Bear's Endurance and Aid on Brahmah first to raise his hit point total even higher!

But just to be cautious, Zeoll uses what bardic lore he might have to guess whether there are any flaws in the Captain's plan. Bard Lore check 19.

"If my storries of rrings like this arre rright, then I think yourr plan will not succeed, alas, my captain. You can orderr the rring to cast Shield Otherr on otherr wearrerr. Then half the damage inflicted on THAT perrson will hurrt you. Only if the wearrerr of the otherr rring activates it will they be susceptible to damage we inflict on you. Morreoverr, the spell gives a warrning in that the rrecipient also gains a bonus in deflecting blows and rresisting magic."

"But this rring still has value to us. We may be able to use it to scrry or divine the location of the enemy."

How Can Such a Goody-Two-Hooves Get Such an Eeeevil Idea? - DM Donna
Friday June 15th, 2007 2:48:47 AM

The Chosen plot to keep their own safe, to keep the citizens of Velawia safe...and to try to take out (from afar) another of Vargas' group.

Zeoll's careful consideration of the plan reveals no obvious or glaring flaws. It just might work.

Zeoll carefully gathers his information, trying to locate a cleric or follower of Gargul. His investigations seem to pay off, as two or three different sources seem to point him in the direction of one of the poorer parts of town--the western edge of the city, where there has been a lone cleric of Gargul wandering the area, preaching the doctrine of his temple. Supposedly the group should be able to find this cleric if they go to the Wanderers' Roost, an inn on the west side of Velawia.

Winterglade
Friday June 15th, 2007 3:55:18 AM

Winterglade remains with the sword. He doesn't feel very well in cities and he certainly doesn't want to see ships or the ocean just yet, pushing the thoughts of another sea voyage to the back of his head. The centaur is getting gloomy and moody - well, more than usual that is. It is a relief that at least the Gargulite can be reached without entering the city itself.

Flat-top
Friday June 15th, 2007 7:42:41 AM

Flat-top takes a look at Winterglade, "Glade your turning green again and we're not even near water yet" He trying to be nice to Glade, last time we went to sea Glade vomited on his Speciat Shoes.

But on ward they go, but hoping that they don't have to beat up their leader, after he had made his own BIG Mistake. But readies himself just in case!!.

As much as he would love to try Brahmah's wild plan, he thinks that the Gargulite is the first priority. Zeoll, presumably with Brahmah and whoever else is going to town (Toros? Mosushi?) head for the Wanderers' Roost. Zeoll does what he can to diplomatically find this rumored Eye of Gargul.

Grabbing Mosushi by the scruff of his neck, the minotaur makes his way with his friends. The Friend Shield safely in his position and presumably the Freedom of Movement ring, as there was no objections. They head for the Roost.

"I'll have to bring back an ale or something for Flat-top I think. He'll never forgive us."

As Heyoo is no good in cities either, he stays and keeps company with the centaur druid, Glade.

"Go ahead and go with the Captain, Gecktar. Winterglade doesn't feel like socializing with furballs right now."

The centaur continues to sulk.

"Patience, Winterglade, patience. Just some more time and we'll be Plane Shifting, yes we will. No more sea travel ever again, we'll just sail through the Astral anywhere we want. We'd rather face an astral dreadnought than a week at sea, yes we would."

The Wandering Roost (Sub Fill-in DM Cayzle)
Monday June 18th, 2007 8:38:53 AM

Zeoll, Brahmah, Gecktar, and Mosushi head for the outskirts of town. Flat-top, Toros, and Winterglade stay behind at camp to watch the Blade.

At the Wandering Roost

The Wanderer's Roost is a working man's (or, rather, wemic's) tavern. They serve ale and some wine. No such things as mixed drinks. They have stew for their only food choice. This tavern caters mostly to drinkers, and a few brawlers as well. Within the humble environment of the tavern (which contains a clientel of mostly wemics, but there are a fair number of centaurs and minotaurs, too) there is a semi-clear area in which a wemic bard plays a concertina and sings a ballad that sounds like it was inspired by the death (and eventual resurrection) of Tomi.

The overall feeling that the working-class patrons of the Roost give is general relief that their work day is done.

There is a female wemic working as bartender. She's a dark blonde wemic with soft brown eyes and a flinty sort of charm.

At the camp

You hear a sound ... like a voice. Please make Listen Checks for more detail ...

If you make a listen check DC6, then Highlight to display spoiler: {It sounds like cursing in anger and frustration.}

Brahmah (Alarm on box 8 hours)
Monday June 18th, 2007 4:24:02 PM

Leaving camp, Brahmah makes sure everyone knows the password for his alarm spell (it is always 'Kayleb' until otherwise stated)

Reaching the tavern, the minotaur goes to the bar, orders a bottle of ale for Flat-top and then grabs a draft for himself... its been a long time since he had one!

He looks at Zeoll. Shrugging and giving him a look that plainly says, 'Well, its your party. Go to town!' He glances at the other patrons and then back at Zeoll.
"Looks like your kind of place." He smiles, eyes flicker toward the bard.

He shrugs again and begins talking with Mosushi and Gecktar.

However, he takes a moment to look around for an obvious Gargulite.

[Listen 13]

"Hear that?" - the centaur points to the box. "The thing's getting desperate." Much quieter he adds: "We better keep it in the dark regarding what we want it for so there is no trouble."

And then a thought hits him.

If it is capable of emotions, then for all practical purposes the sword is an intelligent being, and the group is about to do what is an equivalent of an execution without a jury or a trial... The centaur's mood turns somber and thoughtful.

Gargul's will or not, this just feels WRONG. You have no right to destroy somebody just because he is capable of bringing about much evil.

Winterglade realizes the thing is probably guilty of enough evil to warrant it's destruction many times over, but can't help but feel a tiny bit of pity for the proud blade now reduced to this sorry state.

"You have already demonstrated your intentions. You will stay confined. Sorry."

Gecktar
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 11:27:27 AM

Gecktar mimics Brahmah taking a pint of ale. He savours it and looks around. He is not acustomed to such places. He prefers the quiet of a prayer hall.

Nevertheless he chats with Brahmah and Mosushi. "Do you thing we will be able to take some holydays soon ? I languish for long studies of books and comfortable bed."

A Loud Crash! (Sub-DM Cayzle)
Tuesday June 19th, 2007 3:40:18 PM

In the Tavern

It turns out that the bartender knows that the cleric of Gargul that the Chosen seek is called Vern, a human male who has been exhorting any who would listen to him to take a little time to be truly introspective and be certain that everything they have done is something they don't mind to be judged for, because all such actions will make a difference once they shuffle off the mortal coil.

Some listen. Most ignore him. The bartender says he just went out back to use the "facilities" located behind the building. In fact, he's taking a longer time than normal.

There is suddenly a loud crash from behind the tavern, along with a bellow of some sort.

At the camp

Set behind the main building are the outhouses, all in a row. What's worse, there are a number of evil-looking wasps with red eyes and a sulferous stench that are trying to get into one of the out-buildings. Is someone inside trying to hold the door closed?

Gecktar's ingenuity and good fortune pays off! There are two Summon Monster V spells in effect here, each one calling 1d3 wasps. Gecktar's dispel check cancels one of these spells. I need another dispel check to see about the other spell ... so the DM is rolling that for you. A d20+7 = 14, not good enough. But the dispel got rid of one summoning, anyway. On an even roll, it got rid of two; on an odd roll, three. Gecktar banishes fiendish wasps 2 and 3 to their extra-planar home.

Brahmah moves forward to p-q-8-9, but the wasp he had hoped to target is now gone. The others are too far away to reach with only a single move. Next round?

Mosushi's spell punches through the wasps' magic resistance, inflicting 12 points of hurt to Wasp 5.

OOC: Sorry friends for missing a day. Real life took a toll.

The fight behind the tavern

Brahmah's attack kills one and wounds two more. The one previously hurt by Mosushi is almost dead (Wasp 1). The other is somewhat wounded (Wasp 4).

Mosushi hits web, knowing that the magic sticky strands are not affected by spell resistance. The two remaining spiders must save vs the DC13 reflex attack: Wasp 1 is not affected, but Wasp 4 is stuck fast! The stuck one suffers a -2 penalty on all attack rolls and a -4 penalty to Dexterity.

Brahmah is not affected by the web.

Gecktar charges and attacks, severly damaging Wasp 4.

Zeoll begins casting a summoning, but by the time it arrives, all his fire elemental will have to do is clear away the webs!

The two wasps attack one last time.

Wasp 1 attacks Brahmah. It hits AC16 ... a miss.

Wasp 4 attacks Gecktar, at -2 due to the web. It hits AC7 ... a miss.

Here's the map.

Back at the camp outside town

Flat-top wishes for a drink. Winterglade plays with Brahmah's bear, as Toros watches. The scene would be idyllic, except that a dark source of evil lurks nearby. What was that ruckus? Why did it start making noise? The motives of the ancient evil item remain murky.

The Win Against the Wasps (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Tuesday June 26th, 2007 11:55:44 PM

Without even landing a single blow, the wasps are defeated! The Chosen emerge without a scratch ... even just a subset of four Chosen!

From within the outhouse, you hear a voice calling in accented Tauric, "Hello! Help! I seem to be trapped here!"

Winterglade
Wednesday June 27th, 2007 3:57:07 AM

"Winterglade wonders if they managed to find that Gargulite? They all seem somber fellows and full of themselves. No doubt he will turn the meeting into an opportunity to be majestic at someone."

Gecktar
Wednesday June 27th, 2007 6:03:45 AM

"Get away from the door, I'm going to smash the lock" says Gecktar.

He hands his adamantite warhammer and strikes the lock of the door hoping that it is not magically held.

Flat-top
Wednesday June 27th, 2007 7:23:38 AM

Flat-top is antsy, he shif from one hoof to another, Gut he must stand guard, "OH! Gee! What do I do Now?? Wait a minute! I'm out in the wilderness, Nothing around for miles, except for the rest of the gang. I might as well do it here!"

So Flat-top releaves himself, unfortantly a lot of Center splash on the box. "Tee Hee!" snicker Flat-top.

The Eye Of Gargul (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Wednesday June 27th, 2007 3:12:45 PM

Behind the Tavern

With the last wasp dead, the Chosen clear away the Web and open the outhouse door. There is a male human there, dressed in a black robe and wearing a cloth hat. A white eye is embroidered on the front of his robe.

"Thank you!" he says in accented Tauric. "I thought I would be meeting the Great Lord before I had accomplished his mission. I am in your debt."

He holds out his hand. "I'm Rebbe Vern."

At the camp outside town

Flat-top decides to make his feeling even more clear ... in a physical way. Flat-top, please make another Will Save vs DC20.

Winterglade, thinking about the Chosen who entered town, sees (and smells) what Flat-top is doing.

Brahmah
Wednesday June 27th, 2007 3:54:56 PM

Sensing the alarm from the box (because the password was not used and Flat-top is TOO close to it), Brahmah grabs Rebbe's hand and says in common, "Um, nice to meet you friend of Gargul. But we have to go."

He turns to the others. "I think the box is being tampered with! We need to go."

"Excuse me Rebbe, I'm Brahmah. We have been seeking you for a week or two. Can't explain now." He grabs and hefts the human onto his shoulders. "Trust us. We're the Chosen of Domi and we need your expertise about a legendary sword." He sprints off toward camp, with his human baggage, draped like a shawl.

"Mo, grab what gear he has!"

Mosushi
Wednesday June 27th, 2007 3:55:32 PM

Does what he's told.

Winterglade
Wednesday June 27th, 2007 6:40:43 PM

Toros

The liontaur follows Brahmah, shouting to the cleric, "We arre frriends! Don't be alarmed!"

Return to Camp (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Friday June 29th, 2007 6:08:45 AM

Brahmah gives the alarm, and the human does not resist as he is scooped up and carried off. "This is just like I dreamed!" he exclaims, "Praise Gargul!"

The group returns to camp to find Toros, Glade, and Flat-top sitting down to a meal. Toros and Glade seem to be watching Flat-top as closely as they are watching the box that holds the sword. As for the box itself, well, eyes and noses can easily tell what happened to set off the alarm.

The cleric looks around carefully. "Centaurs and minotaurs and liontaurs! All working together in a group. Under Domi's sign. Yes, this is where I am supposed to be! At last!"

Flat-top
Friday June 29th, 2007 7:02:15 AM

As Brahmah appears on the horison, Flat-top alerts the others as they have their meal.

Flat-top Yells at the on comming Party, "Hail! And my I ask as to Who you have there sling over your shoulder? Captain?" As this group eats. "Did he not want to come along?? or was he to slow to run??"

Flat-top look at the new commer up and down, "There some hot food in the caldrun. Look out tor the hot coals!"

Then the cleric notices the newcomer and nods politely. "Greetings, half-centaur. I take it you are the Gargulite?"

Flat-top
Saturday June 30th, 2007 7:21:56 AM

Flat-top straitens his uper body, "Greetinsa1! I sir am called Flat-top." Then pointing to the box he was guarding, "That box has that Black Sword in it, and it insulted me! So I relived myself on it!! maybe I must have kick snad on it, too."

To Brahmah he tell him (with a smile), "As for Heyou. He was a very good bear, as you can see he is coming bace with fire wood. Now I'll give him some berries for his work.'"

Heyou drops the stick and waits for his reward, after he receives his reward. He goes and welcomes mis master with a great big kiss (licking brahmah face). then moves to the new commer to sniff him from head to toe. (his way of saying Welcome)

Zeoll
Saturday June 30th, 2007 10:44:19 AM

Zeoll is glad that there is no threat to the sword. And he is very interested in what the human has to say. He introduces himself and the others to the human.

Rebbe Vern (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Saturday June 30th, 2007 10:50:06 AM

Flat-top welcomes the human and offers some food.

Brahmah wants to know about the security of the sword. Mosushi wrinkles his nose.

Glade and Flat-top tell the Chosen's Captain what happened.

Zeoll makes some introductions. This confirms, to answer Glade, that this is a cleric of Gargul, also known as an Eye of Gargul. His name is Rebbe Vern. He tells you that "Rebbe" is a title meaning "Preacher," in a rough translation into Tauric.

Rebbe Vern, clad in black with the iconic outline of an eye embroidered on his robes, greets everyone gladly. He seems about to say more when Heyoo the Bear ambles up, mouth red (with berries, not blood, but that is not obvious), and starts to snuffle the human.

The Eye of Gargul leaps back and runs a good 30 feet away. He looks very statled by the animal's greeting. "Being eaten by a bear was not in my dream!" he exclaims.

Brahmah
Saturday June 30th, 2007 11:36:42 AM

"Then you have nothing to worry about Rebbe." Smiles the minotaur, looking at the Rebbe and bear. "He's had his fill of human today."

Heyoo, thinking this a game, runs after the man, tongue lolling out of his mouth and dripping red juice.

Brahmah just roars with laughter.

The wemic feels relief,
as the Chosen return safely with their new company,
and the cursed sword in the box seems to be OK for now.

"Hello, Preacher" greets Toros,
however he is not so sure if Rebbe has heard him,
while he is running away from Heyoo.

Choices (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Monday July 2nd, 2007 5:35:12 PM

[OOC: Friends, DM Donna is having computer woes, so I am continuing to fill in for now. I am also easing Mosushi out of the game for now, and we'll be introducing a new player soon.]

Brahmah laughs at the Gargulite's fear of his bear, while offering some reassurance.

Mosushi suggests that chasing off the priest is probably not a good idea.

Winterglade rolls his eyes.

Flat-top laughs too, but also does a better job of putting the priest at ease.

Toros greets the holy man, and Gecktar makes tea and invites him to sit down.

Zeoll leads the bear away.

==========

Vern, in trying to get away from the bear, has a bigger problem! He runs toward the Black Sword, hidden in its smelly box. He stops short and turns white as the moon. The bear nuzzles his ears, and he does not notice. Every fibre of his being struggles to resist the Sword, and then he does!

Rebbe Vern stumbles back. Flat-top leads him to the fire. Zeoll leads the bear away. Gecktar puts him at ease. When he can talk, Brahmah asks the vital qustions.

"Tell us your story. What have you seen? What visions has the Great Eye given you?"

Vern shudders as he things about the Sword. "I saw IT in a dream," he says. "I knew it was made by the Lord of Death, but that it needed to be destroyed. Lord Gargul showed me a group of Taur, indeed, he showed me all of you, and he told me to help you destroy this thing."

"I know two ways to do it. The first requires a hammer or spike of adamantine, enchanted to the utmost [OOC: A +5 weapon]. Such a weapon could be found among the Dragons' Consortium, I would guess, but otherwise who else would have such a thing? And the nearest Dragons are many many leagues away."

"The other way I know is a more involved process, but it will unmake the thing. We must start at the New Moon, in two weeks. We can do that here, and so I urge that option."

"Meanwhile, I know a special spell to contain the thing. Let me cast the binding, and it will be held, for a day each casting. Then you can carry it around concealed, and there will be no danger of it reaching out to control you."

So I ask you, Chosen of Domi. Will you wait until the New Moon and then work with me to destroy this thing? And will you let me bind the weapon, so that it may be hidden and neutralized?"

Winterglade
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 5:38:40 AM

"The sword is an intelligent being. We are not talking about destroying, we are talking about killing. Ancient evil it may be, but still Winterglade's stomach turns in disgust at the thought of snuffing out life just like that, without second thought."

Flat-top
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 6:09:06 AM

Flat-top listens to the talk about how to distroy the Black Sword, "Wait a minute is it not the same thing? Killing It? and Distroying It??"

Brahmah
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 11:59:55 AM

"Semantics! No one had a problem trying to kill Vargas and his lot! Whats so different about the sword! Hasn't it killed before? It forces others to it's will!

Dead. Destroyed. I don't care how its said. It was crafted, not born or hatched. Its part of the Dark Lord and it must be removed from the Wold.

I'm with you Rebbe. Though I much like the idea of meeting the Consortium I've heard stories of. I think that the natural way is best for this though, easy, simple, gets the job done. Nature is the oldest thing we have to use against such an ancient evil.

Melt the thing down into ammo to use against Vargas for all its worth." He smiles.

Zeoll
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 4:37:42 PM

"This thing is almost as purre an evil as I have everr met, second only to the God of Filth, whom I have also met. I would be happy to see it destrroyed in any case, but even if it werre my own child, an innocent unblemished, my sworrn holy oath to the Lorrd of Death would drrive me to destrroy it, orr myself."

Zeoll laughs, a little bitterly. "But since I have no desire for self-harrm regarrding this piece of trrash, I will simply confirrm my dedication to its destrruction, not my own."

Until the Moon is New (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Tuesday July 3rd, 2007 8:27:09 PM

The gargulite seems glad that the Chosen are willing (mostly?) to destroy the evil sword.

"Yes, we will kill it," he says, "as Great Gargul himself commands."

"But we must begin this business under a new moon. In the dark this thing was made, in the dark we will start its ending, and in the light of day it will be unmade."

"Let me cast my binding spell, and it will not trouble us until then." The priest casts a spell on the box with the sword, and immediately you feel a pressure lift. "The sword is now quiet, asleep, and it will not trouble you if no one touches it."

============

[OOC: Game time, it is about two weeks until the new moon. That gives us time to do some crafting, divide and sell loot, and have a little down time here on Liontaur Isle. Please feel free to visit the Catacombs as well. The party can enter the town together freely without danger from the sword. We can play that out, including town encounters if desired, and spend the rest of the week like that. Meanwhile, I will begin writing a short module and hoepfully Donna will rejoin us soon. This is also a great time to add our new PC, and to give Mosushi an honorable exit until Bill can return to us.]

Winterglade
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 6:10:32 AM

"Char's Temper all around. You speak one thing, but your actions do not follow your words. Why didn't you kill Vargas when you had a chance, then? He was there, defenseless, at your mercy. You didn't kill him."

"Winterglade wouldn't kill an innocent being even if Brawler himself demanded it of him. His faith has its limits."

"He will not aid you in destroying the blade, but neither he will oppose you. His word binds him to witness this matter till the very end."

[All right, let's divide up the loot.

Cayzle, would the following plan be possible: 1) vistit to the Catacombs, 2) 14 days of crafting, 3) second visit to the Catacombs?

Another thing, is it possible to get XP and hero points for the last module before the 14 day period starts? It makes a big difference for my character as it affects what he is able to work on.]

Flat-top
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 6:57:23 AM

"I'll help you to destroy That Evil thing!" Said Flat-top, "After all that evil Sword made me attack my friend Winterglade! I want it to die."

Cayzle OOC
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 7:57:36 AM

To answer Marcin's excellent questions:

Yes, it is okay to have a visit to the Catacombs, 14 days of crafting, and then another visit.

Nope, no experience points or hero points will be forthcoming from me. Sorry, but that's in Donna's hands, so unless I hear otherwise, I would not even know where to begin in making awards.

(You see I am hoping that Donna will be back soon. Of course, if she is gone for a very long time, we'll figure something out.)

Zeoll
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 8:16:57 AM

Zeoll is surprised at Glade's news. "You mean you had Varrgas and you did not kill him? If we had a Helm of Rreverrse Alignment, I could totally underrstand that, but until we get ourr hands on such a thing, next time I suggest a quick death!"

Here is the gear that Zeoll suggests for division:

+1 Large Unholy Adamantine Longsword
+1 Large Adamantine Breastplate w/ SR 13
+1 Large Adamantine Heavy Shield of Blinding
Ring of Freedom of Movement
Pearl of Power 2nd lvl
Cloak of Resistance +3
+1 Large Rapier of Wounding
+1 Large Studded Leather
Ring of Protection +2
+1 Large Greataxe
+1 Large Breastplate
Cloak of Resistance +1

[OOC: I'll compile the value of these items very soon so we can divide it fairly. Jay, please see my post on the Staff Board.]

Here is the loot that Zeoll thinks should NOT be sold:

"These things could be used forr scrrying orr forr otherr divinations in finding ourr enemies."

Ring of Shield Friend (one)
Nonmagic gear from the liontaur rogue:
-- 3x mw poison daggers
Nonmagic gear from Vargas:
-- backpack with a bedroll
-- two blankets
-- 3 servings of trail rations
-- a whetstone

Cayzle, I changed from Netscape to Firefox and can't seem to find the Staff Board anymore. Can you help. :) Whats the addy?

Gecktar
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 5:06:01 PM

"This will give me full time to end my work on new vestments.

Fine. I will begin as soon as I can"

OOC: Gecktar has Setano's vestment to work on. 11 days left of work. He certainly will do more than that with his remaining time.

Toros
Wednesday July 4th, 2007 11:37:45 PM

Not to worry about the black sword
Toros volunteers to watch the moon.

Flat-top
Thursday July 5th, 2007 7:13:59 AM

Flat-top hand ths long rod to Toros, "Oh! Thank you my friend Toros. Now I can get some rest and a nap>"

Winterglade
Thursday July 5th, 2007 7:29:05 AM

"Indeed we had that villain overpowered and unconscious. Winterglade finds it deeply disturbing that some of you would find it acceptable to kill a person who is utterly at your mercy and has no means to defend itself whatsoever, no matter what the circumstances may be. Winterglade doesn't believe that the end justifies the means, you see."

[Division sounds good, but I have a few suggestions:
1. I would be interesting in receiving the cloak of protection +3 as part of my share. If it's more valuable then a share I'd be willing to chip in some gold for it.
2. If they are only going to be used for divination I suggest selling two of the three masterwork daggers. Each is large and worth more than 600 gold.
3. Maybe we should sell the ring of Friend Shield? It's quite valuable, 25000 gp, and some extra equipment will probably benefit us much more than a vague possiblility of somehow using it in the future?]

Zeoll
Thursday July 5th, 2007 10:07:12 AM

Zeoll gets a quick price estimate from the Catacombs and shares what he has learned. The values below reflect the CC policy of selling for 9 silver on the gold. [OOC: I didn't really go to the Catacombs -- I'm acting with Substitute DM powers in offering the following.]

+1 Large Unholy Adamantine Longsword..........18,927

+1 Large Humanoid Adamantine Breastplate w/ SR 13 ..........17,460

+1 Large Adamantine Heavy Shield of Blinding..........6,336

Ring of Freedom of Movement..........36,000

Pearl of Power 2nd lvl..........3,600

Cloak of Resistance +3 ..........8,100

+1 Large Rapier of Wounding ..........16,506

+1 Large Nonhumanoid Studded Leather..........1,125

Ring of Protection +2 ..........7,200

+1 Large Greataxe..........2,106

+1 Large Humanoid Breastplate..........1,395

Cloak of Resistance +1..........900

Total Value..........119,655

Divided among seven..........17,093 each

Each Chosen can either take the cash or take items from the trove for their cash value. For example, if Glade takes the +3 Cloak, then he gets 17,093 - 8,100 = 8,993 gold with it.

[OOC: To address Marcin's points ... I think the Friend shield ring is worthless without its mate. They only work in pairs. Also, masterwork costs are not multiplied for large size weapons and armor, so the value of each dagger is only 1502 or so.]

Brahmah
Thursday July 5th, 2007 12:57:40 PM

OOC: Perhaps something mundane of Vargas' should be kept rather than the Ring of Friend Shield. Lets sell the ring and keep his tunic or something. Or even some of his dried blood from Brahmah's sword! That might work best to scry. Lets try to get something for the Ring anyway, even if its in game and NOT via the Catacombs.

My ruling for the ring as assistant to Nellie would be, 'Even without its partner, it has material component value. So I would give 12,500gp for it, or half single ring value. But thats my view as partially bias. :)'

In addition, keep in mind that if we can scry on it, so can the enemy. We could be watching each other. I suggest parting with everything of value and use the blood perhaps.

IC:
Brahmah is happy that he will be able to pay back several debts after the loot is split. "Zeoll, give Flat-top 11,764 gold from my portion." He looks at Flat-top. "My gold debt is paid in full friend!" He laughs. He takes off the Ring of Freedom of Movement and puts it in the pile of loot.

Gecktar
Thursday July 5th, 2007 5:26:02 PM

"I may have some use of the pearl of power. Another spell per day is something we could need. And if nobody wants the ring of protection, it will improve my defenses."

OOC : Gecktar would be glad to have the pearl, and if noone claims for it the ring of protection

Flat-top
Friday July 6th, 2007 7:50:44 AM

Flat-top look in suprised, "But Captain! It was a gift! I never expected back. You needed it, So I gave it to you."

Winterglade
Friday July 6th, 2007 8:16:33 AM

"Well, let's sell everything we can then. Winterglade could really use some rest after all that excitement, and spending a few days at a mind-numbing occupation like sewing might be just the thing to calm his nerves."

[If nobody else is interested in the Cloak of Resistance +3 then please make it part of my share. The rest I'll take in gold.]

Brahmah
Friday July 6th, 2007 2:14:29 PM

Brahmah's jaw drops. "F-f-flat-top, you must be crazy! Thats alot of loot! Are you sure?" The minotaur is stunned.
------------------------
(OOC: Sure Brahmah is interested in some of the goods in the pile, but as individual pieces are worth more than his portion, he'll pass. I will pass on items and take gold.

Also keep in mind that a portion of this should be sent for retaining and maintaining the Hearthold Keep! I'd say for each of the Chosen to give/donate any portion they could to the Keep. Brahmah will donate X when he's able after he buys some stuff. But he WILL donate. He may even donate to the orphanage the Children of Domi are staying in.)

R&R Begins (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Saturday July 7th, 2007 7:55:40 AM

A Quick Trip to the Catacombs results in the following loot division:

Winterglade: Cloak of resistance +3 and 8993 gp
Brahmah: 17,093 gold
Flat-top: 17,093 gold
Mosushi: 17,093 gold
Gecktar: Pearl of Power (second level), Ring of Protection +2 and 6,293 gold
Toros: 17,093 gold
Zeoll: 17,093 gold

OOC Note: I didn't really go to the Catacombs ... as substitute DM I can just wave my hand and make it so.

The following items were not sold and are now party treasure. If the party wishes to sell them later, that would be fine, but WILL require an actual trip to the Catacombs.

Ring of Shield Friend (one)
Nonmagic gear from the liontaur rogue:
-- 3x mw poison daggers
Nonmagic gear from Vargas:
-- backpack with a bedroll
-- two blankets
-- 3 servings of trail rations
-- a whetstone

Any further distribution of loot, whether in payment of debt or for charity or upkeep, is up to the individual. However, it must be said that some people have been sleeping on the same bedroll for years, and could use a new eating knife, or maybe a haircut. In other words, a reasonable sun spent on upkeep would ake sense.

Gecktar at least, knows what he intends to do. He has a magic item to finish crafting. How about everyone else? Where will you stay for the next two weeks?

The Eye of Gargul recommends the Wanderer's Roost, where you met him. He says that the bartender there, named Rissa, has been very welcome to his ministry.

What security do you have planned for the Black Sword? Who will carry it? Any special precautions?

Finally, what are you plans for the upcoming week or two? Please get all crafting down on the board now, for the record.

Brahmah
Saturday July 7th, 2007 10:42:23 AM

Brahmah doesn't do anything terribly useful with his time, at least to the eyes of the others.

He exercises, doing push ups, crunches and pull ups, also takes those morning runs with the centaurs, though not keeping up too well as he only has two legs!
The ranger works on his blade work and accuracy.

He also makes a point to cast Alarm on the box, and Snare (on a bundle of rope) near the box every night before bed. He makes a point to tell Rebbe the password so he can administer the correct spells when needed. He also mentions where the Snare is to the group.

Winterglade
Saturday July 7th, 2007 11:32:54 AM

"Winterglade will accompany you to Wanderer's Roost so that you may bask in the light of his mighty wisdom for a bit longer, but he will spend the nights on the fresh air - such as you can find on this tropical island. He also doubts the local food would be to his taste."

The centaur acknowledges the precautions already taken and doesn't have much to add aside from making sure there are at least four Taurs with the blade at all time. In his opinion an attack by Vargas is still quite probable.

On the first day he pays a visit to the Catacombs and spends the two weeks with a thread and needle working 16 hours a day, making two Cloaks of Comfort on the first day, and then working simultaneously on two Setanos's Vestments of Holy Incantations +1, finishing both at the very last day.

Brahmah
Saturday July 7th, 2007 1:01:35 PM

Brahmah will also ask Winterglade to possibly help him make a Spider Climb tattoo since he can't cast it himself.

Winterglade
Saturday July 7th, 2007 5:23:02 PM

"Winterglade would gladly help, but that magic lies beyond his repertoire. You need the help of one of them bookworm spellslingers, Captain."

[Winterglade is just a pure cleric, sorry Jay.]

Brahmah
Saturday July 7th, 2007 5:33:19 PM

OOC: Perhaps Brahmah was thinking about Zeoll. Is Zeoll at least a 3rd level druid? Spider Climb?

Zeoll
Saturday July 7th, 2007 9:33:24 PM

Zeoll is glad to help Brahmah put a Spider Climb tattoo together. And maybe the inventor of the tattoos could put a tattoo on Zeoll as well. He is thinking of Create Water and Detect Evil.

Brahmah
Sunday July 8th, 2007 7:11:17 AM

Brahmah will help with tattoos.

Taurs should consider tattoos that might replace the use of boots or slippers.

Just some suggestions for some tattoos.

Fighters with no spell casting levels who might like to do spell damage might want to consider Call Lightning, Flaming Sphere and Searing Light are just a few nice spells. Cure spells are ALWAYS useful on the front lines of combat.

For arcane spell casters, I suggest Bulls Strength, Bears Endurance, Barkskin, and maybe Cure X Wounds.

Of course, I am bias about tattoos... ;) Get what you want.

Purchase the materials for the level of tattoo you want, find out if anyone in the Chosen is able to cast it and then come to Brahmah... Brahmah will craft the tattoo for you. It'll save you gold... Brahmah doesn't get the commission on materials, but you can't have everything. ;)

Remember, only Divine spells of up to 3rd level are allowed in tattoos.

Gecktar
Monday July 9th, 2007 4:35:52 PM

Gecktar works on his vestment all day long.

OOC : still needing clarifications, Cayzle did you received my email ?

Brahmah
Monday July 9th, 2007 5:24:55 PM

Brahmah keeps a close watch over the box for the next two weeks... spell of protection or not, the box can still be MOVED!
He casts snare and alarm frequently, making use of his Extension rod at every casting.

Heyoo even sits on the box, 'guarding it'.

Brahmah suddenly remembers that his bear needs training, so he does that. The minimum basics that all 'wild' animal needs; heel, guard, fetch, etc. Attack and down if necessary.

Brahmah
Monday July 9th, 2007 6:02:22 PM

For a couple of nights, Brahmah will prepare SPeak with Animal to help with training Heyoo.

Toros

Toros is happy with his share.

Flat-top
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 6:54:48 AM

"POFF!!" Flat-top return from the Catacumbs, look around. Then ask "Did I miss anything? Where are we going now? Same Place we spoke about??" He marches along with his friends.

Zeoll
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 11:08:37 AM

Zeoll is happy to help with security. He can cast Fire Trap on the box. And he casts Spider Climb in helping Brahmah make his Tattoos.

"I am glad to help while I can, my frriends," he says. "Forr when I become a seerr, I will be limited to divinations and enchantments, and many magics I now know will be beyond me."

The druid/bard spends eight days making his Berrywreath -- a living magic plant that Zeoll wears on his head. It grows goodberries daily, and it can entangle the wearer, Zeoll warns his friends. After that, he spends six days making a wind fan.

He is grateful that Brahmah can also help during that time drawing two Tattoos on Zeoll: A Create Water, and a Detect Evil.

Keeping safe and sound (Sub DM Cayzle)
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 11:19:28 AM

The Chosen take no chances. The Black Sword, in its box, is protected by Alarm, Fire Trap, and Snare. Also, at least four Taurs are with it at all times.

Gecktar works on his vestments and ponders several questions ... Even with a Ring of Sustenance, only one magic item can be made at a time, and only 8 hours can be spent on it a day. Also, it is generally not possible to make items that have multiple powers [OOC: only stock items from the DMG and the Oshirr House can be made -- not custom multi-power items.]

Flat-top goes shopping.

Winterglade goes with the party to the tavern where the Eye of Gargul is staying, but the centaur needs space to run at other times.

When Brahmah is not crafting, he keeps fit and strong, maintaining his skills.

Toros is glad to keep watch and to get a share of the loot.

[OOC: One more post, please, and then it will be the New Moon. Okay?]

Brahmah
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 2:36:00 PM

The ranger will indeed help with tattoos, including his new Spider Climb tattoo.

If he has time, he trains his Heyoo.

The night before the New Moon, Brahmah sets up his watch. He lays out his bow and quivers for easy retrieval, sharpens his weaponry and polishes his armor.

Prepared Spells and Resources just before New Moon ceremony....

Spells:
Alarm x2, Snare

Resources:
Brahmah's Entangle Tattoo (unused)
Brahmah's Guidance Tattoo (unused)
Antitoxin x5
Detect Poison Scrolls x5
Bear's Endurance Scroll
Toros' Lesser Philter - Shield x2
Masterwork large composite longbow (Str+6)
Arrow x17
Arrow x20
Metamagic Rod of Extend, Lesser (unused)

Gecktar
Tuesday July 10th, 2007 5:03:04 PM

Gecktar searches for his captain and asks him "Brahmah would you mind crafting one of your famous tatoo for me. I intend to get one first level spell cast. Endure element seems a good idea because we travel far and wide and some protection against the element is quite useful."

"Could you do it for me ?"

Gecktar will get most of his time crafting his vestment. Eleven days later he goes to the catacombs to get some new stuff and the components for the tatoo if Brahmah agrees to make one for him.

Winterglade
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 3:24:18 AM

The centaur spends most of the time enjoying the relative peace and quiet of the outskirts of the town. He continues to busy himself with crafting his cloak.

[Aww, I have only just started being served in the Catacombs! Does this affect the work of my character anyhow?

If I can work on crafting only 8 hours a day I will make just one Cloak of Comfort and one Setanos's Vestment.

Hmm, Cayzle: the rules don't say you can work only on item per day, they say you can work only on one item at the time. What if I wanted to make multiple items that each can be finished within 8 hours? Could I make two per day on rest periods like these?]

Flat-top
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 7:46:49 AM

POOF!?? Flat-top arrives from the Catacumbs, "Boy! that last step is a wild one!"

"Captain A little package will be arriving soon! It will be for me, OK?" He ask.

Brahmah
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 12:46:35 PM

"I will craft tattoos for anyone who wants it, but buy your materials for them. It will cost less. I don't mind losing commission for a Chosen."

Zeoll
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 4:39:10 PM

To recap the liontaur's plans:

8 days to make a Berrywreath. 6 days to make a wind fan.

The New Moon Rises (DM Cayzle)
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 4:53:21 PM

After a couple weeks of rest and crafting, the Chosen meet behind the tavern where you have been staying. You gather in the same place that the priest was atytacked by magic wasps, actually. The field between the tavern and the outhouses.

The sky is dark. The Eye of Gargul peers into the sky. "It is time," he says.

The priest, Rebbe Vern, welcomes you and tells you that he has found a helper to get the mission accomplished. He needed an alchemist or a brewer, and he found one. "As soon as he gets here, I'll let him introduce himself."

The priest of the god of death tells you that he wants to dissolve the Black Sword in magical acid. He says that the mission is to make the acid and then immerse the sword in it.

But before that, he has to call for the blessing of Gargul in this mission.

He takes the box that has the sword and sets it on the ground.

Just then, a wemic in a nightshirt steps out fof the Tavern. "What's this?" he roars. "Can't an honest liontaur use the facilities without running into a gang of cultists!"

Brahmah  d20-1=7
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 6:55:33 PM

The minotaur objects to having the ritual so public, but only states this half heartedly. "Do we all have to be here at your side Rebbe? I'd like to set up a defensive perimeter."

He draws his own swords and waits, standing defensively over Rebbe. "I don't like this Rebbe. Inviting someone else to this ritual! You didn't say anything about that. Are they trustworthy? We barely know you friend."

The ranger eyes the outhouse wemic suspiciously, then tells him, "Do your business and move on friend." He flashes his armor, a button with the symbol of Domi on it. He glances at Winterglade as well as Gecktar. "If we're cultists sir, I'm a halfling!"

Brahmah tries to remember seeing this wemic in the tavern before this moment. (Int 7) No luck.

Brahmah's description
Wednesday July 11th, 2007 7:45:18 PM

Brahmah stands just over 8 feet tall and is clearly a physical force within this group, with his missing tail, missing left ear, MANY tattoos, scars, engraved horns (sea life motifs)and natural musculature. His dark eyes flash and his thick black hair is dull in the star light. He is considerably ugly and serious as minotaurs go, but it is clear that he is a kind leader and friend.

It is obvious that this minotaur is a ranger. His two swords, bow and highly worn gear makes this clear, though his mithril shirt and weaponry are very well kept.

There is an air of distrust when first meeting him but then quickly switches to a more friendly demeanor.

A young black bear mills about the ranger trying very hard to get a bite to eat whenever he can.

Winterglade
Thursday July 12th, 2007 6:23:12 AM

Winterglade is standing away from the main group of Chosen, sulking, not really liking the way the sword is being disposed of.

"What's this? Can't an honest liontaur use the facilities without running into a gang of cultists!"

"And exactly what do you think cultists would be doing at this place, summoning the dread lord Constipator?"

Winterglade is rather small and stringy for a centaur. His face is unremarkable, and the most prominent feature of his appearance is his white mane. Silvery armor can be seen under his travel cloak. A huge shield is strapped to his back. No weapons can be seen on his body.

Flat-top
Thursday July 12th, 2007 6:49:30 AM

Flat-top advances in besides Winterglade, "What ever My Friend Winterglade, and my other Friends has stated, Well! I goes Double for me!"

Flat-top is a big Centaur, his armor covers his chest (with the emblem of Domi on it). Also his masive arms, you know this is a Fighter. Yes A fighter!! One you don't want to mee in a dark alley.

Brahmah
Thursday July 12th, 2007 10:07:39 AM

"Get on with it Rebbe. This place is too exposed."

Toros
Thursday July 12th, 2007 10:17:28 AM

The new moon rises and disappears very quickly.
What the priest suggests sounds like a good plan, and now it is time to execute it.
Toros ignores the wemic that has come out of the tavern for the moment.

Kael
Thursday July 12th, 2007 10:25:00 AM

Why was he so quick to trust this human? The thought had been running through Kael's head ever since he agreed to this meeting. The human knew about the dreams that have troubled him these past months, and if this meeting would bring the promise of a good night sleep he was more than happy to meet with this priest and his friends.

Kael trudged through the streets of the Liontaur City a trail of smoke in his wake as he puffed away in contemplation on his ornate curved pipe. The hefty weight of his great axe on his back bolstered his courage allowing his curiosity to subdue any fear he may be harboring.

Rounding the corner the brewer came upon the peculiar and eclectic group of taurs. Keeping close to his escape Kael looked for the priest that called him to this meeting.

"I hope I haven't kept you." Kael took a long pull off his pipe hoping it would sooth his nerves. There were centaurs here.

At first glance Kael appears to be nothing more than an aging Minotaur brewer, it isn't until the fine details begin to come together that the depth of his experience comes through. His massive great axe, hints of armor, and sculpted frame, contrast his contemplative demeanor and arcane accouterment that adorn the master brewer. Kael's fur is a whitish gray with random patches of light brown, a long braided goatee extends from his chin reaching as far as the center of his chest. Intermittent puffs of smoke rise from a elegantly crafted pipe that Kael has a habit of puffing on when he is deep in thought.

[OOC: Hi all, looking forward to the adventure]

Zeoll  d20+21=26
Thursday July 12th, 2007 2:31:51 PM

Zeoll tries to reassure Brahmah, and he laughs at Glade's joke about constipation. He laughs even harder when Flat-top agrees with Glade so seriously.

When the wemic enters to use the facilities, Zeoll speaks to him, trying to calm him down, and then to send him on his way. Diplomacy 26.

Zeoll bows to the newcomer minotaur. The wemic is from those who consider themselves less cilvilized than the merchant wemics that travel the isles. His mane and tail is braided with beads and feathers. His leather armor is worn but shows relatively fewer signs of actual use in combat -- more likely, Zeoll stays out of fights.

But he carries a greatsword on his back, so maybe he is a fighter, of a sort. He also has a drum, a wreath of green leaves and blue berries on his head, and a small leather pouch on a cord around his neck.

Brahmah
Thursday July 12th, 2007 3:38:48 PM

Brahmah nods curtly to the brewer, but remains silent and vigilant.

Winterglade
Friday July 13th, 2007 1:07:24 AM

The centaur rises an eyebrow in surprise. "Another hornhead? On a furball isle? You sir are far away from home. Seems there are more Taurs crazy enough to wander around than Winterglade originally thought."

[Welcome to the game Adam!]

The Ritual (DM Cayzle)
Friday July 13th, 2007 8:29:47 AM

The intruding liontaur makes use of the facilities and then makes a quick exit.

Vern requests that AT LEAST one of each of the Taur races stand with him for the ceremony. The others can guard as they see fit.

Who will stand up?

Then, standing over the sword sleeping in its box, the Rebbe casts some unfamiliar magic -- half spell, half prayer. In it he asks Lord Gargul to bless the creatures here and to open the Black Sword that He made so that it now, with His permission, may be unmade.

Then he asks each of the assisting Taurs to aid in this effort. Say a prayer, cast a spell, speak an oath, or in some way make a contribution to the invocation of the god or the destruction of the weapon. "The effort is what matters," says Vern.

Those who have stepped forward to help with the ceremony -- what will you do? Those who are on guard -- what will you do?

[OOC: Ironically, now *I* am having computer woes. My laptop is in the shop. But it should be A-OK after I get it back later today.]

Gecktar is a sturdy minotaur and is clearly a follower of Domi. The holy symbol hanging on his chest, the hammer he has on is side and the Anvil on his shield clearly designate im as priest of Domi.

He too laugh at the joke of Glade and greets the minotaur. "What a fellow minotaur is looking for in this part of the Wold ?"

He then returns to his duty near the Gargulite, and cast a spell to help the ritual

Cast 'divine power' to help.

OOC: I'm on holidays now and I will try to post regulary but I don't know if I will be able to have a connection every day...

Brahmah
Friday July 13th, 2007 11:23:05 AM

Brahmah will not stand for the ritual, but be on guard for the ritual, citing the fact that a warrior is needed to stand guard but is likely useless in this ritual. "My value is to protect the sword and Rebbe as the ritual is performed."

Kael
Friday July 13th, 2007 2:41:48 PM

Gecktar's question had been going through Kael's mind ever since he started his journey to uncover the meaning of these bizarre dreams. He held his answer for the moment not wanting to interfere with the ritual, his hand resting on the hilt of his throwing axe. It seemed his new companions were worried about possible interference, and Kael was not going to be caught off guard.

Saturday July 14th, 2007 3:43:21 PM

The centaur stands still, his arms folded on his chest. Flat-top has taken it on himself to represent centaurs in this event - a last sign of his previous fascination with the blade, perhaps?

How will annals of history describe this event? "And so the mighty blade was unmade between a privy and a shady inn. So ends the saga of the Veiled Queen." Then his thoughts go to the mysterious lover of the queen, lost so long ago. Who was he? Did he manage to rejoin her in the end?...

Flat-top almost knows what WinterGlade is thinking, "Friend Winterglade! I sorry If I Hurt you when I was under the influance of the Black sword, I was not my self! So that is why I want to see this sword distroyed! It does not belong in this wold."

Brahmah
Monday July 16th, 2007 11:52:52 AM

Still unsure of his motives this early in his appearance, Brahmah watches Kael suspiciously.

(OOC: Adam, how is Kael pronounced?)

Moshushi
Monday July 16th, 2007 12:21:49 PM

Bill lives!!!!! Finally have a working computer

Moshushi

Moshushi is scrawny by wemic standards, with sunken eyes and stringy muscles. His left arm is heavily scarred. He tends to always be in motion, whether twitching, pacing, or just moving his tail around.

He has a pack on his back, and wears a slightly tattered vest/cloak (he likes pockets). A massive sword is on his back, though rarely used.

Zeoll  d20+19=39
Monday July 16th, 2007 3:21:23 PM

Zeoll smiles at the different ways the Chosen contribute to the task at hand. The contributions are as diverse as the Taurs themselves -- in race, in class, and in temperment no less -- and if all these can work together to end a great evil, then surely they can work together to bring long-sundered brothers and sisters together.

For his effort to aid in the destruction of the sword, Zeoll plays his drum and softly sings a wordless melody. The music is designed to inspire and give confidence.

Perform Check 39 is a nat 20! Woo hoo! And Inspire Competence.

The New Moon Looks Down (Sub DM Cayzle)
Monday July 16th, 2007 3:38:07 PM

Gecktar greets the new Taur and asks a telling question. Then he adds his magic to the ritual.

Brahmah stands guard. His contribution will be to security -- and with Vargas still on the loose, that is no small matter.

Kael, the minotaur who has just entered the scene, is a little unsure. He waits and watches carefully.

Flat-top stands near the Rebbe and offers his own heartfelt prayer that Domi would lend his aid to the Gargulite's work.

Winterglade stands still, content to let Flat-top aid for the centaurs. He thinks about the evil Blade and its long history.

Toros offers a simple prayer as well.

Mosushi, who has been quiet of late, lets his friends know by his demeanor that he is still alert.

Zeoll adds a musical element to the Gargulite's divine magic ... an almost perfect complement to the work at hand, he thinks.

=========

The Priest casts a spell, and no spellcraft will tell you what it is. Before the spell is cast, the new moon -- Wardd's Moon -- is invisible in the shadows that cloak it, just as it always is at this time of the lunar month. At the moment, it is the only moon in the sky, and you cannot see it. Then, as the ritual is cast, the shadows part and the moon is revealed -- a perfect sclerotic-white orb, without mark. Then the orb rolls in place -- like an EYE rolling in a socket -- and then the iris and the pupil of the EYE rolls into view. You sense the EYE peering down, straight down at the box that contains the sword.

Those with a divine bent might have a hint:

If you can roll a Know Religion DC12 check, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You can tell, from the parting of the shadows and the moon-as-eye, that this is a special miracle from Gargul.}

If you can roll a Know Religion DC17 check, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You have a sense of awe from what you deduce is the appearance of an avatar of the god himself.}

Then the Gargulite speaks, but not in his own voice. "Before the new moon rises again, dissolve IT in the Tears of the Land under the Sun of the clear Sky."

The human priest falls prone, the moon returns to normal, and all is as it was. In the distance, you hear screaming, and cries in the wemc tongue: "Aaaiii!" "Save us from these omens!" "Doom!" "The gods die again!"

Gecktar  d20+8=11
Monday July 16th, 2007 6:01:48 PM

Gecktar is a priest but he is completly ignorant about this ceremony and do not reaizes what really happens.

Whenhe hears the wemic's cry he turn to face the one who was crying.

Still alert and vigilant he hands his hammer.

"Don't worry Flat-top, Winterglade doesn't hold a grudge."

[Knowledge: Religion 16]

Winterglade shifts uneasily, sensing that one of the gods is directly intervening here.

A minute of silence passes. Then the centaur trots over to the prone cleric and gently taps his knee with a hoof. He turns to the rest of the Chosen and sighs.

"It's never that easy, is it? What in the Nine Hells are the Tears of the Land? And when is the next new moon?"

[Knowledge: Arcana 17 to figure out how many days we have to complete the ritual]

Brahmah looks in the direction of the scream. "Uh oh." He remembers the last time a God died. He grips the hilts tighter and then something dawns in his mind.
"Chosen, I think we might have to put out the fires of fear from the wemics. Perhaps Zeoll, you can calm them." He heads toward the street from the outhouses.

DM Clarification
Tuesday July 17th, 2007 1:21:30 PM

The new moon is completely dark -- you cannot see it at all. But during the ritual, "the shadows part and the moon is revealed." That means the new moon LOOKS like the full moon. And after that it looks like a rolling eye that spins in an eye socket and looks down at you.

When the ritual is done, the shadows again cover the moon, and it is new (unseen) again.

I hope that is more clear.

Brahmah

OOC: AW! I see, like a great set of eyelids? Okay. That is cool. :)

DM Highlight to display spoiler: {If Rebbe does anything like try to pick up the sword, or acts funny after rising from his clapse, Brahmah will put him 'down' for the good of the Wold. :)}

Not sure about the arcane mysteries surrounding the sword, the minotaur is uneasy, but he doesn't show it.

Kael
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 4:22:42 PM

Kael rolls the words around in his head. "Not to pry, but what did the priest mean when he said 'IT'?"

Brahmah
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 5:22:29 PM

Standing over the priest, Brahmah turns to the newcomer.
"We have only known Rebbe for two weeks. He has distain for this evil thing or so he says. I believe 'it' is the sword, the Black Sword. But anything could have been meant. I've seen a lot. The sword could hold anything within it. A soul of an evil person or a good one. It could be a key.
However, it is evil and needs to be destroyed. We've been sorting out what to do with it for nearly a month and a half now. Week up a mountain, a week down, two weeks waiting for this.
Your not prying Kael, your wise to ask this."

He sighs. "When I was called to the Chosen, I was on a ship in the middle of the sea, playing body guard and indebted to the captain for saving my life. A life debt.
He told me before leaving that to be given a mission by a God in a vision is rare and special. He also said to ask a question is the first stage of wisdom.

The answer will show itself soon enough."

Gecktar now thinks about the riddle. One more to elude... He is not great at this, Zeoll is much better... Maybe some divinations will help.

Zeoll
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 8:48:16 PM

The liontaur hears his people crying out in fear, mostly in the wemic tongue. He takes Brahmah's advaice to heart and moves off scene, trying to find troubled souls, sooth teir fears, lead them in hymns, and reassure the masses.

"I'll rreturrn soon, frriends," he tells the Chosen. "Guarrd the Sworrd well until we meet again!"

The Aftermath of the Ritual (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Wednesday July 18th, 2007 9:40:54 PM

Gecktar hears the wemic people cry out., and he is vigilant.

Flat-top is a little shook up.

Winterglade checks the priest. He is okay, and staggers to his feet. He asks what happened ... seems he does not know what he said while speaking the god's words.

Glade knows what it was all about, though. So does Kael, the newcomer. At least part of it. The Tears of the Land is a small island among the Shipwreck Shoals. The island has many fresh springs, the water from which is sometimes used in brewing potions and wine.

Brahmah hears a Taur cry out that this omen might mean a god has died. Everyone remembers when many of the gods DID die, and that was prety horrible, even if it seems more like a forgotten nightmare now, and no one is clear on the details.

But just because one person is afraid does not mean that his fear is a true one.

Mosushi is a little more than somewhat disconcerted, though. Brahmah tells him that interpreting these kinds of events is not easy.

Toros is in a measure of awe, and he scans the skies for a while after the ritual ends.

Brahmah steps over to help the Rebbe, or maybe to make sure that he is not influenced by the sword.

Kael asks for some fundamental info, and Brahmah fills him in the Evil Sword that the party has fetched here, and that their mission is to destroy. Now that the ritual has weakened the Sword, maybe the Chosen can achieve its final destruction, if they can figure out the instructions for doing so.

Winterglade
Thursday July 19th, 2007 5:31:58 AM

Winterglade briefly relates what transpired to the priest of Gargul. Then a recollection strikes him.

"Wait a moment... Tears of the Land... Isn't that an island off the Shipwreck Shoals? Does it ring a bell to any of you old pir- sailors? Good grief. Another sea voyage is imminent, no?"

"Let Winterglade take a moment to figure out how fast a ship do we need. Unless you would know, Rebbe?"

[Any chance to figure out how much time do we have? Anybody took Knowledge:Astronomy?]

Flat-top
Thursday July 19th, 2007 6:07:08 AM

As he listen to what Winterglade is figuring what 'Tears of the Land' meanimgs, it strike Flat-top a image of that same Dangerious Island.

He speaks in alow voice, "Oh! Domi! Help Us."

Brahmah
Friday July 20th, 2007 9:43:52 AM

"Can't be weirder than the Island of Doc Mauroth or whatever his bloody name was! I still would like to have a word with him and goons!!"

Gecktar
Friday July 20th, 2007 5:21:42 PM

At the words of Brahmah, Gecktar remembes the ad days they lived in this isle.

"I agree captain. This should be done, one day or another..."

"But let's concentrate on the sword. Is there a place where we could get a very detailled map of the Wold ? Maybe we would be able to get some clues about the riddle."

Kael
Friday July 20th, 2007 5:54:42 PM

Kael watched as the group discussed. The plot was thickening and he was wondering what Domi had gotten him into.

A black sword housing an unknown evil, which they must now destroy. A twinge rose up the back of his neck as he remembered the failed adventuring days of this youth.

No longer a brash youth, and accompanied by what appeared to be a band of seasoned adventurers he allowed himself the optimistic thought that perhaps this lot will fair better.

Kael felt his introduction could hold until a plan had been decided upon.

Brahmah
Friday July 20th, 2007 7:29:33 PM

OOC: Adam, just a quick word about Brahmah and the rest.
Brahmah seems to be quite a bit older that the majority of the Chosen, his mid-forties by the looks, getting on for a minotaur.
His dark hair is becoming peppered with silver-gray, however lightly.

Winterglade
Saturday July 21st, 2007 6:38:21 AM

"Flat-top, Winterglade is a healer, not some kind of brute who goes around killing things. You can rely on him to provide cures, but he would have to be extremely hard-pressed to rise a hand against another live being."

Brahmah
Saturday July 21st, 2007 12:57:46 PM

The ranger smiles at Winterglade. "You'll have to get over that little quirk, friend."

Winterglade
Monday July 23rd, 2007 2:34:49 AM

"That's not a quirk, you hornhead, it's an existential philosophy!"

"Sigh. Sometimes Winterglade thinks his own tribe has moved too far ahead of everyone in spiritual developement for its own good. Good thing the Windwalkers live on a barren steppe. Had we anything of material value we would have been raided by everyone around."

Zeoll
Monday July 23rd, 2007 6:30:11 AM

"Thank you forr helping," Zeoll tells Mosushi. After they have done what they can to help people aroundabouts, Zeoll suggests getting back to the group. "It's not safe to be aparrt forr verry long," he says.

The Tears of the Land

News of The Tears of the Land (Substitute DM Cazyle)
Monday July 23rd, 2007 6:41:00 AM

[OOC: Please accept my apologies for another week of poor DM posts. I will do my best to be better this week. Thanks! -- Cayzle]

Rebbe Vern dusts himself off and tells Winterglade that he suspected a sea voyage would be necessary. He tells you that he has a ship waiting at the docks, and that the Chosen can set sail whenever they are ready.

Vern says that you have a month to finish the job, that is, until the New Moon rises again.

Flat-top hears that a dangerous sea voyage is coming and says a prayer to Domi.

Mosushi joins Zeoll in calming the populace. He finds the bard has been talking to people and offering reassurances. With the two friends working together, many who were worried instead become calm and hopeful. ut soon enough the two return to the Chosen.

Brahmah tries to recall what he might know about an island called "Tears of the Land" -- and he can confirm what the Rebbe says, It is a small island in the western side of the Shoals. It is known for its bubbling springs (those are the "Tears"). But his sailor lore tells Brahmah that it will take about eight days to get there ... mostly due to the care that must be taken not to run up on the reefs and sand bars all around.

Flat-top recalls their recent encounter in the Shoals, on the Island of the doctor who set up a Taur Hunt. Brahmah thinks about turning the tables ... maybe a mad doctor hunt? But wise Gecktar brings the focus back to the most important issue -- the Black Sword. He thinks about maps, and maybe remembers the magical map the Chosen purchased at great price, only to have it stolen.

Gecktar also thinks about finding clues. The oracular words were these: "Before the new moon rises again, dissolve IT in the Tears of the Land under the Sun of the clear Sky." The Tears of the Land is an isle. What is the Sun of the Clear Sky?

Kael is somewhat reassured by the manner of the seasoned adventurers, and he listens to the conversation but does not join in just yet.

Brahmah and Winterglade talk philosophy, and the two liontaurs, Zeoll and Mosushi, return.

The Chosen retire for a few hour's rest after a busy night. In the morning, Vern is ready to take you to the docks. Is there anything you want to do before taking ship? Any last minute shopping or preparations? If you do have business pending at the Catacombs, we'll assume it is concluded today, so you will have your gear set for the voyage.

Flat-top rubs his shoulder again, thinking about the Island of Bubbling Springs, "I hope those bubbling Springs are hot water??"

Gecktar
Monday July 23rd, 2007 6:43:14 PM

Gecktar wakes up after a couple hours of sleep sufficient for him to regain his strength.

He follows Vern to the docks "What kind of boat is this you have ? I intend to work during the trip and I don't know if the size of the ship will allow it."

Moshushi
Monday July 23rd, 2007 7:56:01 PM

Moshushi is up fairly early. He'll take a little time wandering the village before heading over, since it might be a while before he's back amongst liontaurs.

Observant folk might hear him utter "8 days on a boat. Why isn't evil ever anywhere we can walk to?"

Brahmah
Monday July 23rd, 2007 11:51:30 PM

Brahmah prepares for whatever they do next, after relaying his information to the Chosen.

Winterglade
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 2:46:59 AM

"Well Flat-top, Winterglade can't promise you to be at your side at all times. He usually heals those who got themselves in the worst pickle and are closest to crossing to the great beyond."

"Come think of it, that is you, usually, so you still might get your wish more often than not. Just don't get too confident and in habit of putting yourself in harm's way more than it's needed."

The centaur looks at the height of the sun on the sky.

"It's still three hours before the change of the tide. Winterglade will meet you on the dock. He has some last minute shopping to do. Some kind of tranquilizer for sea journey, perhaps. Properly aged."

And he drops into a gallop, quickly disappearing from sight.

At the wharf (Sub DM Cayzle)
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 8:30:46 AM

Flat-top wonders iof the springs are hot, and Brahmah tells him that he thinks they might be. Or some of them, anyway.

Gecktar asks Vern about the ship, and the Eye of Gargul says that the Merry Mermaid is a medium-size merchant ship. probably plenty big for his needs.

Mosushi prepares to leave by visiting among his own people one more time. He takes int he sights and smells of Liontaur Isle with the regret of one leaving home again.

Brahmah makes ready for a sea voyage and is now set to go.

Winterglade makes a fast trip for some shopping before the ship departs.

Zeoll is quiet. Maybe he, like Mosushi, is thinking about leaving home again.

[OOC: We'll assume that all shopping is concluded now, even if you are still dealing with the Catacombs.]

The next day brings you to the wharf, ready to set sail. You see Vern in conversation with the captain.

Zeoll
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 8:33:05 AM

The liontaur is surprised to see this ship. "The Merrry Merrmaid -- I rrememberr this ship! I took passage on this ship when I firrst joined the Chosen!"

"The captain -- who is a bit eccentic -- is named Parrson. Some among his crrew are bigots, orr werre when I was aboarrd. They tossed me overrboarrd in a storrm!"

Mosushi
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 11:16:55 AM

"we're taking passage on a ship that throws people overboard?"

pause

"Hmm, this may not be wise."

Toros
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 12:09:05 PM

While the wemic finds listening to the philosophical
talk between Brahmah and Winterglade intriguing,
he slowly gets ready for the next voyage.

My personal laptop has recently got broken,
but I guess generally I will be able to handle

Brahmah
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 2:24:58 PM

"Hmmm... not sure if I like the bigot thing Zeoll. They might still be aboard. If they are, I think I'll have something to say! I had enough of that stupid type o' talk from the Doctor to last me a life time!" He thinks a moment. "Wait, which life were you in during your voyage... the second of third age of Zeoll?" He smiles.

Kael
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 5:31:00 PM

Kael readies his gear and waits to board. The thought of swimming home does not appeal to him and decides he will not be the one thrown overboard.

Gecktar
Tuesday July 24th, 2007 6:14:55 PM

"Well if we have to be prepared to be thrown overboard, I should prepare some other spells. Maybe a waterbreathing spell would be necessary..." adds Gecktar with a large smile.

Winterglade
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 2:43:07 AM

Winterglade joins the Chosen on the dock. The centaur's standard grumpy mood is even more sour than usual. He gives the ship and the crew a dirty look.

"Bigots, you say? Typical for half-centaurs in Winterglade's experience. Winterglade pities them a bit for having been born without four legs, but that doesn't justify them being jealous about it! The poor wretches should just learn to accept their sorry lot and get on with life."

[Standard selection of spells, but Water Walking in place of Dispel Magic and Invisibility Purge.]

Flat-top
Wednesday July 25th, 2007 6:38:09 AM

Flat-top laugh so hard that he missed yesterday post. "Ho - Ho - Ha - Ha! Thay is funny! Two legs throwing Minataurs or Centers, even Weinics over board. What a picture that makes! Taking a mimataour to heave overboard?? Ha- Ha- First they have to deal with those horns!
Then picking up a Centaue with two arms and four hoves, kicking into the air, to throw over board?? Ho HO He He!
But the best picture of all Is Trying the throw a weinic over boare with all those claws ripping their faces?? Hee- Hee!"

Flat-top turns to Winterglade and gives him some green leaves, " Here Winterglade, Have some Mint to settel your stomack!"

Flat-top walk away to the boat still laughing.

Winterglade
Thursday July 26th, 2007 1:00:34 AM

Winterglade accepts the mint, snifs it suspiciously, and bites on it. "Where did you get it? Is it some kind of catnip-like stuff for centaurs?"

"Winterglade was thinking more on the lines of a Plane Shifting to Astral and taking the way back to the Material through a proper gate. Beats rocking away your guts on some kind of dinghy on the open ocean. But that kind of power is yet beyond him, and this whole sword business will hopefully be concluded before the Brawler sees it fit to grant him the use of it."

The centaur trots over to Kael and pats him to get his attention. "It's probably just fair to warn you beforehand. There are quite a few thoroughly violent individuals who are after that thing." - he points to the sword box. "This journey might prove quite dangerous."

[No problem Cayzle, the party seems to be able to entertain itself anyway ;)]

Flat-top Smiles at Winterglade, "The mints are from my Dam (Mother) Shepich them , then drys then, send them to all her Colts. We use to settle out stomacks.

But if that does not work, and fel we have to add our meal to the sea? Well we take Seaweed. That really works. Also good if your Road Apples are too soft.

Here some seaweed too! I don't wamt to clean up after you.

Flat-top Stop in his Track!! It finally hit his head?? "Did I hear right?? Who Call Me a

"It might not be funny Flat Top. If they try to throw us overboard, then we'll wind up throwing them into the sea, and then we have to learn how to sail."

Brahmah
Thursday July 26th, 2007 10:24:02 AM

"Flat-top and I are sailors Mosushi, and the other Chosen, but perhaps not Glade, are quite use to the sea now. Sailing is a very useful profession." He winks at Mosushi. "But Flat-top was the goody goody, he sailed with the Royal Navy... I was, well, a, well, some say pirate. But I was forced by a life debt to be one. If I didn't do that though, my life would be far different. No world experience, no sword skill..." He smiles. "...no tattoos or scars. Sailing literally MADE me the taur I am."

Zeoll
Thursday July 26th, 2007 11:46:28 AM

Zeoll tries to reassure his friends. "I was verry young and inexperrienced on my firrst voyage. I do not think that any crrew could trreat all us Chosen in that way now."

"Besides, if I had not been tossed overrboarrd, I would not have gotten to Brridge Isle and met the Chosen. Maybe it was Domi's plan all along."

Captain Parsons (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Thursday July 26th, 2007 12:06:21 PM

Learning from Zeoll a bit of his history with the Merry Mermaid, the Chosen respond with some trepidation.

Mosushi and Brahmah are not sure they like travelling on a ship that once threw a Chosen overboard.

Kael is determined not to walk the plank.

Gecktar is not too worried, but ponders spells for water survival.

Winterglade thinks the crew should get over it. By the way, he gives Winterglade some mint to help settle his sea-stomach.

Flat-top laughs and thinks he'd like to see puny mortals try to throw him overboard.

Meanwhile, Winterglade lets the newcomer, Kael, know that the party may be in greater danger from those who want the Black Sword than from run-of-the-mill bigots.

Brahmah offers the reassurance of a seasoned sailor.

Zeoll wonders if Domi had meant for him to be thrown overboard, since he washed up on Domi's new island, where he joined the Chosen.

Vern listens to all this conversation and smiles. "I am sure that Captain Parsons will be a professional. I presided at his grandmother's funeral, as well as at his nephew's birth, and he knows better than to cross an Eye of Gargul."

If you can make an Int check or Know (religion) vs DC10, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You have heard that in some human cultures, priests of Gargul give blessings at births and deaths.}

The human priest leads the Chosen up to the ship. It is a middling size merchant vessel with about a dozen crew. A half-elf is supervising the loading of some bundles. He sees the group, and calls out, "Cap'n Parsons! they're here!"

The captain appears from his cabin. He is a tall, grizzled human -- more sea-worn than Zeoll remembers. He offers Vern a solid handshake and looks the Chosen over. "Birther, you said there would be nine. I only count eight. Is another coming?"

Vern shrugs. "Seems I was wrong. All are here. Can we set sail at once, Billy?"

The captain looks flabbergasted. "Birther! Please! Call me "Captain" on the boat!"

Vern smiles. "Oh, right."

The captain quickly recovers. "Well, where are we going?"

Vern asks the Chosen to give the directions. From what you know, Brahmah can probably get the captain a sense of where to go.

The captain asks if there are any questions before the ship sails.

Kael  d20=3
Thursday July 26th, 2007 1:25:20 PM

Kael tenses slightly at Glade's hand on his back, his mind unable to quell the reflex his experience with centaurs had burned into his subconscious.

"I hope that these violent individuals haven't found a place in the crew."

Kael followed the rest of the chosen to the boat, and observed the casual exchange between the captain and the priest. He wondered what had happened to the ninth member, his gaze landing on the crate containing the black sword.

Brahmah
Thursday July 26th, 2007 1:36:53 PM

"Ah, right." Brahmah remembers the case with the sword and pulls Rebbe aside from the crew.

"Um, Rebbe, could you, uhhh, possibly reinforce the spell on the sword case before getting aboard? Sailors are dodgy, even on the best ships. I doubt any of these folks would resist the lure of power." He asks in barely audible whispers.

"Highly doubtful any of them are among the crew. They are Taurs, all of them."

Still, what kind of consolation is it? All it would take to sink this thingy would be a flying wizard teleporting in at night and launching a few fireballs...

The centaur leaves plotting the course to those who know better, and goes to find himself a nice spot as low under the deck as practical. Soon clanging of metal plates can be heard from below as he is trying on his new armor.

"Hells and blazes, this bloody thing is heavy! Brawler, Brawler, why me?! Why here? Why, of all the things, in the company of hornheads and furballs?"

Flat-top

Flat-top will wait for an answer, while standing guard to the entrance to the hole, where his friend disapered.

Kael
Monday July 30th, 2007 12:26:47 PM

The discussion of beer soothes Kael's soul. To see that the love for a fine brew is universal among the taur almost brings a tear to his eye...almost.

"Perhaps once we are settled in and on our way we could share a drink?" His tone hushed as to not inadvertently invite the entire crew. "I have a bit of my private reserve."

Kael raps his hand on the side of a small barrel hanging at his side, stenciled on it the words "Kael's Ale."

Directions? (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Monday July 30th, 2007 5:20:25 PM

All purchases are made and delivered in time for the ship's launch.

Kael is uncertain about the crew and voyage, not to mention the Chosen, but seems willing to come along and help the Eye of Gargul and the Taurs.

[OOC: It is fine to list the spells you have prepared in your post. Thanks!]

Brahmah asks the priest of the god of death and life to strengthen the protections on the Black Sword. The captain of the Chosen engages Kael in conversation.

Brahmah uses his sea lore to prognosticate smooth sailing hereabouts in the days ahead.

Winterglade seeks refuge from the sea spray below decks. He tries out his newest purchases.

Mosushi also seeks protection from the wet.

Flat-top puts his skill and knowledge at the captain's service.

So does Toros, who recalls the last time the Chosen went into the Shoals and hit the reefs, with dire consequences.

Gecktar stows his gear away in a cubby below decks and gets ready for the voyage.

A couple taurs mention drink, and Kael generously offers a sample of his own store.

Vern tells Brahmah that the protections in place now will be more than strong enough. If he were to fiddle with the abjurations now in place, he might mess it up, and that would be bad.

The captain bows and smiles at Flat-top and Toros. He says, "Excellent! But what I need from you is this: Where are we going?!?"

Winterglade
Tuesday July 31st, 2007 2:28:44 AM

"Tears of the Land, captain. In Shipwreck Shoals. Winterglade sincerely hopes this is directions enough because he knows nothing about all this shiver-me-timbers stuff."

Then his attention is turned to Kael. "You have a drink? Winterglade is game. What is this stuff?"

Brahmah
Tuesday July 31st, 2007 4:59:59 AM

Winterglade beats Brahmah to the punch, so the Captain of the Chosen just remains quiet.

He shakes hands with the captain and crew and gets aboard and finds the cabin in which the Chosen have been given.

Agreeing with Brahmah Gecktar says to Flat-Top "Patience, my friend. His tile will come But we have a really heavy weight on our shoulders with we must take care of this first."

He turns to Kael "Forgive me brother for the cold welcome, but we have a dire mission, and if Domi guided you hooves here, you are welcome among us."

"We are accustomed to trickery and our path is often spoiled by blood, even the blood of our brothers taurs."

"If you are to share of destiny for a while and become one of the Cosen, we should share our experience and skills."

"As you can see it on my chest I hold the holy symbol of Domi. And I am a priest. I wield skills in fighting and healing. And you brother what are your skills, and I would be happy to share some drink with you."

Zeoll
Tuesday July 31st, 2007 4:52:05 PM

The liontaur bard would be glad to have a small drink of Kael's brew.

He agrees that the sword must be dealt with, and then the Doctor. Although Zeoll is eager to see the doctor get what's coming to him, he also thinks that he might need a bit of down time after the sword is finished.

Sailing the Shoals

A Five-Day Sail (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Tuesday July 31st, 2007 11:53:02 PM

Winterglade tells the ship's captain where the Chosen want to go.

Brahmah greets the captain and the crew.

Flat-top offers help both physical and directional. He mentions his desire to stop at the island of the mad doctor.

Gecktar, Mosushi, Brahmah, and Zeoll think that a detour is not a good idea right now. Maybe later.

Winterglade, Mosushi, and Zeoll seem interested in a drink, but Kael cautions care with his potent brew.

Gecktar engages Kael in a more serious discussion of capabilities and skills.

=====

Captain Parsons likes Brahmah's name: "That's a proper moniker, my friend!" It seems like all the crewmen -- humans and half-elves, mostly -- have a name that starts with "B."

He checks his charts and declares that he can get the Chosen to the island called "Tears of the Land" in about five days, if the weather holds.

Any actions for the next five days? Any security precautions? Activities?

Winterglade
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 5:17:10 AM

"Best brew in the Wold, eh? Now that's quite a claim. Let's find a place to try it out. Winterglade doesn't sit, though. He is a centaur and a Windwalker. We only lay down to give birth or die."

The centaur, having had very bad experiences in the past, casts Detect Poison on the drink before partaking. "Sorry. Just a standard practice these days..."

The five days drag on for him like ages. He tries to kill time with one of his weaving projects, completing five days worth of work [crafting Setanos's Vestment of Holy Incantations +1].

Flat-top
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 7:04:00 AM

After tasting Kale Drew, he tell him "That's a mighty fine brew! I'd Follow you any way you wanted to go, For Another Sip!"

For the next five days Flat-top will do his blacksmith Job on anything metal, Thae mends the Sails and nets. For the next five days.

Flat-top flatters Kale "See what a center can do with only a sip of your wonderful Brew?? Loo were almost there! Go tell Captain Brahmah! He'll be pleased to know!"

Toros
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 7:33:36 AM

Recalling the bad memories of the last voyage
Toros keeps himself ready for any unexpected happening.
He enjoys listening to the conversations of the brewers without drinking himself.

Kael
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 1:04:23 PM

Kael shares a drink with his new companions, fortunately he had enough mugs to go around.

As they drink he explains his qualifications to Gecktar,"I stem from a long line of brewers whose knowledge and experience have been past down for generations, and facilitated the making of this fine Ale we are drinking. It is a delicate art form requiring years of training."

Kael takes another swig.

"Although as you are aware we live in a time where one must defend his right to partake in such leisurely activities from those who would choose to make war. So, I have trained in the soldierly arts as well as the arcane to defend those who desire such freedoms."

Kael finished his drink. "What about the rest of you?"

Kael is happy to stand watch if required, or lend a hand if necessary along the journey.

Brahmah
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 1:49:23 PM

Brahmah will cast Snare (on a bundle of non-ship related rope) and Alarm on the box each night and even some random day shifts. He will extend the times using the lesser rod.

He will also help those with there tattoos. (If you are getting a tattoo, please let Brahmah know which kind.) The tattoo MUST be one Brahmah or the Chosen can cast!

"Kael, my father was a farmer or sorts and was killed. My mother still lives and was a barmaid when I saw her last. I have siblings, but they are spread over the Wold. Haven't seen them in years. They don't even know where I am.
I have been a caravan guard, farmer, dock hand, pirate, merchant sailor... and now I am a Holy Warrior for Domi."

"I think I will write them a letter finally. The family that is." He sets a time aside one night to write a short letter.

Then, on the last night, Brahmah will sit down with the Chosen and give each one a gift.
He will give Flat-top, Zeoll, Mosushi, Winterglade, Toros, Gecktar and even Kael, each a signet ring, with a symbol of Domi on them superimposed over the ancient Woldian symbol which means 'Chosen'.
"We needed a true symbol for the group I think. Something to unify and identify the group."
It is obvious Brahmah is already wearing his band and proud of the Chosen thus far.
"The old symbol means Chosen. Its the High Woldian glyph which is rarely seen and few know. Well, maybe not so few now, with all the tattoos. The tattoos use High Woldian too."

--------
Heyoo stays away from the edge of the ship rails and in fact is below most of the five days.

Brahmah (additional)
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 1:58:53 PM

"I protect freedom for the innocent. The guilty must be torn from the world, but when?... is a matter only for Gargul and Domi.
However, I have been known to decide for them." He grins, then falters. "Unfortunately."

"I've killed too many I think." He says suddenly and regretfully.

Brahmah will not partake of Kael generosity this voyage. He need his wits, but he will promise to drink with him soon.
"I still owe Flat-top a bottle!"

Gecktar
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 4:38:51 PM

Gecktar needs only few hour or sleep to be fully rested. He will work as much as possible on his 'Setano's Vestment' and share some tasks of the crew if needed.

During the trip he asks Brahmah for a 'endure element' Tatoo.

Mosushi
Wednesday August 1st, 2007 6:17:55 PM

Mosh will happily accept kael's offer of booze, and they can probably spend time talking shop.

He doesn't talk much about his past, but mentions his upbringing as a warrior and later training in the magic arts

He's visibly pleased with the ring Brahmah gives him. "I am honored, and shall strive to live up to what it represents."

Winterglade
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 5:21:48 AM

"Winterglade hails from the Windwalker Tribe, from the Great Plain on the Centaur's Isle. His kin is unique in many ways, and not many of us wander outside of our ancestral homeland, but the Brawler saw it fit to remove him from the steppes and cast him into the Wold at large. He yearns to go back, but the way is barred for him until his quest is complete. For now fate has joined him with this band until the matter of the Dark Blade is settled."

The centaur accepts the signet ring with a bow. "Thank you. Winterglade will remember you and our journeys and misadventures together whenever he will look at it."

Flat-top
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 7:41:56 AM

Zeoll
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 7:47:15 AM

The liontaur spends five days working on magic item creation.

He is amazed and grateful for Brahmah's gift. "This is a fine token of ourr fellowship. Thank you, my frriend."

He tells Kael over a tasty mug that he is a priest of nature and a bard. But all his life he has been seeking wisdom and knowledge, and it is his calling, he feels, to seek the deeper understanding of a seer. He thinks there is truth in dreams, and he hopes to follow that truth. [OOC: Zeoll will soon take his first level in a Woldian Seer prestige class.]

Arrival (DM Cayzle)
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 7:53:18 AM

For five days the Chosen spend their time in magical pursuits, in the labors of the sea, and most of all, in welcoming the newest member and reflecting on the bonds that support and sustain them.

Maybe Domi smiles on this course, for the weather is fantastic and there are no dangers on the way.

The last day is slow sailing, as the captain is careful indeed to avoid running the ship aground on the reefs and sandbars of the Shoals.

At last the island you seek comes into sight. It rises steeply from the water, with no beach for a landing. It requires a climb check vs DC12 just to go on the island, and even then, the sharp reef will inflict d8-2 hp damage for the climb.

As you ponder the coastline, you see several geysers blast up right at the shore.

The ship cannot get too close. The longboat can accomodate two oarsman and a Taur.

How will you go ashore? In what order? With what precautions?

"Good luck, Buddies!" says the captain.

Brahmah
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 11:53:00 AM

"Misadventures!" He laughs at Galdes phrasing. "Your truly a light during dark days Glade."

"Oh, the ring, its nothing, nothing..." He says with the 'thank yous' and the 'gratitudes'. "It is merely an appreciation for the work we've done so far and what will will likely do in the future." He looks at Kael. "You are the... foal among the herd... so to speak. New, green, thats all. But you deserve recognition too. Domi sent you to us." He knows Kael is quite close to his age, so, turning a bit pink, he stops himself before saying,
"Land!"

Mosushi  d20=20 d8=4
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 11:54:28 AM

Inexplicably- 18 on climbing, and 2 points of damage taken.

"it will be nice to stand on something that doesn't move for a change. It will be even better to be dry!"

Mosh is definitely taking his time, not trying to get away from the cannon fodd..er, um, steadfast warriors :) Is there anything to tie a rope to once he's near shore?

Brahmah (illegal 2nd)
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 12:00:52 PM

"Oh yes, I have climbing gear enough for several of us. Rope. Kit. Pitons. Hammer."

"I can scale the walls freely, like a spider and set a piton and ropes for the rest. I can effect two folks at a time and for a mere half hour, but it should be enough to reach the top."

[When Kael's turn comes he make it over, and take 5pts]

Kael accepts the ring and is amused at Brahmah's comment about him being a foal as he strokes the emerging gray in his beard. Letting out a hearty laugh he gives the bull a slap on the back.

"I may be green to your lot, but I've had my share of 'misadventures'. I assure you I won't sully your gift by dying." Kael places the ring on his finger.

"So whose first ashore?"

Kael
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 1:04:25 PM

[OOC: I don't know if you needed the tally on that skill check it was Climb Check = 14]

Gecktar
Thursday August 2nd, 2007 4:32:14 PM

"Thank you Brahmah, this is really a nice gift" he says to Brahmah when he offers the rings.

When they arrive at the Island, he says :
"I can cross the the sea and freely climb the cliff with a spell I have memorized. I can take the lead and help those climbing with a rope"

Gecktar entones a prayer to Domi and begin to walk on air as is on firm ground. He begins to climb thes cliff as if walking on stairs

Flat-top
Friday August 3rd, 2007 7:16:37 AM

"Captain Brahmah! I think I have the answerto our problem! I have bough a wand of flying, it was for myself But now I think it will be for all of us. I don't quite know how many charges there is in it?? but from the price I had to pay, There should be enough for all of us."

He Turn to Winterglade, asking "Want to Go First?? I'll be last so I get to use it on all of you<" Flat-top Smiles as he uses the wand on him first, "Fly Winterglade! Fly!"

Flat-top watches him going to the top of the cliff, "I hope you don't get air sick Too??"

Brahmah
Friday August 3rd, 2007 11:53:58 AM

"I've heard about rare items of communication. Word has it that the Platinum Dragons are all telepathic or something. Rings would be nice though."

"Wand of Flying? Who can use it? I can't! I prefer the spider walking I have now. I think only an arcane caster can use those! Where did you get it Flat-top?"

Mosushi
Friday August 3rd, 2007 12:26:32 PM

Is there anyone who is looking for help to get across?

Kael
Friday August 3rd, 2007 1:12:08 PM

The idea of enchanted rings intrigues Kael, he makes a mental note to look into it when the opportunity arises.

Fly? Interesting proposal. "Perhaps to conserve charges you could use it on the stronger of our lot, and they could carry someone with them?"

Gecktar
Friday August 3rd, 2007 4:15:09 PM

"Thank you Flat-Top, I don't need this spell to reach our goal, but it's a good idea to have it."

Gecktar makes his first step out of the ship and don't fall. he continues walking on air.

Brahmah
Friday August 3rd, 2007 4:39:42 PM

The ranger will again make the offer of rope and gear to climb.
He decides for the group.
Brahmah casts Spider Climb from his tattoo and proceeds up the cliff. When he reaches the top, he makes sure to tie off the rope, hammer a piton or two and then, he lowers his 200ft section of rope for the others. Descending again, remembering his bear, he says, "Heyoo can ferry gear up. Just tie it off to him. I will carry the some of the heaviest gear to lighten burdens."
Then he casts the last Spider Climb on Heyoo.

The Island Called "Tears of the Land" (substitute DM Cayzle)
Friday August 3rd, 2007 7:55:58 PM

The Chosen use their skills to land on the reef-bound island.

OOC to Flat-top: Highlight to display spoiler: {Ceil, do you really have a wand of flying? You have to be a mage to use it, you know.}

Brahmah uses spider climb to get himself and his bear ashore. He lowers ropes for those who need them.

Gecktar air-walks to the island, and then helps haul up those who need the rope.

Mosushi uses the rope to come ashore.

Kael also climbs the rope.

Zeoll is glad to get Brahmah's and Gecktar's help with the rope.

Toros follows the lead of the other Chosen.

And so does Vern.

Once on the island, Vern uses some curing magic to heal any cuts gained climbing the sharp stones of the island.

You are on a stoney island. In some places the rock is exposed, swept clean by water and waves. In other places, lush rooted brush and bramble have sprouted in cracks, crevices, and crannies. Inland, you see some palm and cyprus growing to medium heights. The entire island is no more than a mile or two long.

But the most remarkable features are already distracting you. There are pools and geysers all over the place. Near the shore, some are tidal pools. Farther inland, you see bubbling puddles and steamy ponds. Some geysers erupt streams of water only; others spew mists as well. Sometimes the fickle sea winds carry a rotten-egg smell to your noses.

There are no buildings in sight. The ship's captain and crew remain on board the boat. Aside from you eight Taurs, a human, and a bear, no creature larger than a gull seems to exist here.

Zeoll
Friday August 3rd, 2007 7:59:44 PM

The trained bard puts his recall to good use. "Maybe we should think about the worrds that Garrgul gave us."

"Beforre the new moon rrises again, dissolve IT in the Tearrs of the Land underr the Sun of the clearr Sky."

"Well, we'rre herre on the Tearrs of the Land. Now what?"

Winterglade
Saturday August 4th, 2007 5:33:30 AM

Winterglade was the last one to climb the cliffs - with great difficulty [Took 10 on Climb, with ropes the resulting 10 should be enough? Not sure if flying happened?]. Once on the top of the cliff he promptly put on his new armor - a shinig suit of plate.

"Ring of Messaging, hmph? Good luck pushing THAT order through the Catacombs."

"Now what? Could it be that this time sun means just sun and clear sky just clear sky? Shall we wait for a spell of nice weather?"

Just out of curiosity the centaur starts to wander the island and scan it for magic. His head turns here and there as he tries to pick up any local magic auras [Winterglade uses up 3 Detect Magic - combined duration 21 minutes. If he picks up any auras he will try to determine their strength and schools of magic involved].

Toros
Saturday August 4th, 2007 12:09:07 PM

"Many thanks for this ring Brahmah
I will carry it with honor"

The voyage without problem has been replenishing for Toros
and he hopes their luck continue like that.

Following the lead of other Chosen, together with Winterglade, he climbs the cliffs.
(take also 10 with ropes)

Standing on a safe rock, he looks at the men on the boat, his companies, and the sea gulls interchangably.

Flat-top finnaly makes it to the top. Look around, "This is IT?? Not much of a island. I wonder Why Domi want us here?? OH! Yes! Kale has a duty to preform! Right Kale!"

Fat-top is not very Happy, he just don't like this Island.

Brahmah
Monday August 6th, 2007 8:44:17 AM

"The value of this island is in its natural power to destroy the sword Flat-top, not in how many taverns there are." He smiles. "One of those steaming pools of volcanic ooze is the Tears of the Land, certainly! Rebbe, which one?"

Kael
Monday August 6th, 2007 9:46:34 AM

Kael smirks at Brahmah's comment.

"You underestimate the insightful powers of tavern numerology in the determination of prophecy resolution."

Kael lets out a hearty laugh.

The Mystery of the Tears of the Land (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Tuesday August 7th, 2007 9:55:19 AM

Zeoll invites the group to ponder the words of Gargul.

Winterglade spot-checks the island for magic, but finds none. The centaur has a funny thought -- maybe Gargul just meant what he said! Maybe all you need is to wait for clear sky and sun! Winterglade, Please Highlight to display spoiler: { LOL! Good idea! Take a 200 xp award for clever thinking.}

Toros takes in the scene.

Kael wants to look for a spring that would serve the party's purpose. But what is that purpose? What are you looking for? He sees that some pools bubble, and others are calm. Some steam and some are cold. Some springs are geysers that rise and fall. Others are constant burbles that fall from a rocky outcrop.

Flat-top is nervous.

Brahmah asks the Rebbe what to do, but all the Eye fo Gargul knows is that when the sword starts to dissolve, he is supposed to cast one final special spell.

Gecktar thinks about dissolving the sword, and wonders about lava. But lava would more likely melt the sword, rather than dissolve it. On the other hand, there is no exposed lava anywhere. And no volcano. But if not lava, how about acid? He looks at the island's pools. None are strong acid. A couple might be a weakly acidic, but not strong enough to melt the Black Sword.

Mosushi stands still and watches.

Gecktar, Glade, and anyone else who is looking at pools, please make a Tracking or Search check vs DC15: Highlight to display spoiler: {At the edge of one tangy, steaming, weakly acidic pool, you do see some scratch marks on the earth. More like tracks than writing. The water of this pool is bubbling, and you cannot see deeply in due to bubbles. It smells pungent, and stinging.}

Kael  d20=16
Tuesday August 7th, 2007 10:32:51 AM

[Search: 16+4=20]

Kael seems focused on a particular bubbling pool noting a series of scratches near the edge of the pool.

"That looks interesting." Indicating the marks, not wanting to disturb whatever is connected to those claws he keeps his distance.

Brahmah
Tuesday August 7th, 2007 11:48:24 AM

Brahmah looks around to the nearest pool of molten whatever, draws an arrow and dips the steel tip into the pool (if that pool isn't good enough, be moves to the next).
"Lets just be well shot of this piece of..." His sentence trails away.
"FLAT-TOP, NO JUMPING INTO THESE POOLS! THATS AN ORDER."

Moshushi
Tuesday August 7th, 2007 4:23:15 PM

"Captain, I can provide some protection for someone who wishes to get close. Not enough to touch the lava, but it should provide some safety."

[Search 6] "What lava? There's no lava around!"

Upon hearing Kael's remark the centaur races over to where the brewer is standing. "What is it? What have you found?" - he asks, jealous that it was not him who discovered something. "Some kind of scratches? Symbols of some kind, perhaps? Symbol of the Sun maybe, if we are lucky?" [Knowledge:Arcana 22]

"Come now. There are only so many pools on this island. All we need to do is to dunk the sword in each of them. We can start with the one Kael found."

Flat-top
Wednesday August 8th, 2007 7:01:28 AM

"Don't Worry I'm Not that Stupid!" He tell Captain Brahmah.

But he goes to the Gyser that has the scraching. He takes an arrow from his pack, and proceds to dip it into the liquid bubbles??

When Flat-to pulls the arrow out, He See that the arrow is . . . .?

Kael
Wednesday August 8th, 2007 10:32:42 AM

Kael watches on nervously as the Flat-top tests the "water."

Brahmah
Wednesday August 8th, 2007 2:48:53 PM

Brahmah smirks at Flat-top, then shrugs. "You jumped into the goo in the temple. Just going from experience." He laughs. "There's no denying, you did do that."

A Bubbling Pool (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Wednesday August 8th, 2007 4:33:15 PM

Kael looks over one pool and sees some scratch marks at the edge. They are definitely tracks, not writing or other marks.,

Brahmah tests the water of that pool. It has a tang and a smell, an acrid, sharp smell. There are many bubbles rising through the waters. The pool may be slightly acidic, but not so much that it will dissolve an arrowhead anytime soon!

Brahmah warns Flat-top not to jump in!

Musushi offers protection to those who need it,

Winterglade looks at the scratch marks at the edge of the pool and confirms that they are NOT letters or glyphs. They look like claw marks.

Winterglade suggests dunking the sword in every pool. But Vern, the Gargul priest, says that there has to be more to it than that. He believes that Kael at least has a roll to play. How, he does not know.

Flat-top says he will not jump in -- yet! He pokes at the water too.

Zeoll summons a water elemental, and tell sit to go down the pool and report back. But it never comes back.

If you can make a track check vs DC20, then Highlight to display spoiler: {The tracks lead to sunny rock outcrops nearby.}

What next?

Cayzle's Announcement
Wednesday August 8th, 2007 4:39:32 PM

Good News, Chosen of Domi! DM Donna will be returning on Monday! Yay!

Bad News, too! I need character sheets from Gecktar, Toros, Flat-top. I know there has been no xp, but I want sheets up to date when Donna gets back.

Bill, the sheet I have for Mosushi is still titled "mowyth.doc" -- do you have a more recent one?

Jay, please send me a version of your file as .txt or .rtf, or .doc.

Adam, I need a .txt format from you, but see my e-mail coming tonight with questions.

Thanks!

Toros
Wednesday August 8th, 2007 10:03:57 PM

Toros stays a bit away from the bubling and stinging pool of water,
wondering what might have happened to Zeoll's water elemental.

Gecktar  d20+4=23
Thursday August 9th, 2007 3:15:31 AM

Looking to all those testing the pools

"Do you really think our task is to drop the sword in one of this pool ?"

"Sorry but, I'm accustomed at much complex soluces..."

"Did you see thes tracks Brahmah ? They are leading here..."
he says while following them.

"I suggest that we follow them, this could be some kind of life on this isle. Maybe a sentient one. Even I don't believe it, maybe a creature may help us."

(OOC: Survival check 23)

Winterglade
Thursday August 9th, 2007 6:40:04 AM

Winterglade's brow rises as he examines the track marks. "So, what are we looking at here? A behir? A hydra? What would choose to live in such a caustic, watery habitat, with no apparent sources of food?"

"Ah yes! So simple. A black dragon. Let us take a closer look, yes?"

Flat-top  d20+2=20
Thursday August 9th, 2007 7:44:11 AM

As soon as he heard BLACK DRAGON! Flat-top jumps back from the edge of that pool. "A Acid Spitting Black Dragons?? You bet your life I'm not going to jump in there!! If this thing wants my hide, let HIM come out of that hole and get it!"

"Remember Zoell, Your Elerment has not return as of Yet!" Flat-top tell Zeoll.

But to Brahmah, he tell him "I may have done things Stupid once or twice, but it was to the betterment of our party, Right Captain of all of us?"

Moshushi  d20=2

Kael

"I would think the presence of a dragon on these islands would have made it's way into their legend." Examining the tracks. "But we should be cautious none the less."

Brahmah  d20+16=29 d20+6=7

He nods to Flat-top, rolling his eyes.

"Tracks, yes. I see them." (29)

He casts Guidance from his tattoo. (Knowledge geography 7, nat 1!) "No, I don't think this is the type of terrain a black dragon might live in. But there could be elementals around. But lets get our minds off monsters."

"Tears of the Land. I think it might be a waterfall out of the side of a cliff or volcano. Maybe it is a metaphor for something else we haven't thought of.
But in the meantime..." He starts walking to sunny rock outcrops nearby.

Zeoll
Thursday August 9th, 2007 4:56:11 PM

The liontaur shakes his head. "Eitherr my elemental was capturred orr killed. Prrobably killed."

He says he thinks there is something dangerous down there.

Many Legs (DM Cayzle)
Thursday August 9th, 2007 5:05:24 PM

I have PC sheets from everyone except Toros. Thanks!

Toros wonders what killed the elemental.

Gecktar thinks there is more than just dipping the sword in a pool. He asks Brahmah to look more closely at the tracks.

Winterglade thinks it is an acid-monster. Maybe a black dragon?

Flat-top seems nervous about the chance that it is a dragon!

Mosushi urges caution and watchfulness.

Kael thinks that if there were a dragon, someone would have made a tale of it before now. He looks at the tracks too, and also urges caution.

Brahmah prays for Guidance and looks over the tracks. He discovers that they are made by many ten-legged large creatures with claws on their feet. He thinks that they come out to rest on the rocks, maybe toward dusk when the sun is setting but the rocks are warm.

Zeoll listens to Kael and says that he has not heard any stories about dragons. These things are something else.

Vern says that he thinks the whole island is called the Tears of the Land. He stays well back from the pool.

Winterglade
Friday August 10th, 2007 4:51:26 AM

[Flat-top] "I may have done things Stupid once or twice, but it was to the betterment of our party."
"Yeah. Winterglade looks so much better with those scars on his back."

[Kael] "I would think the presence of a dragon on these islands would have made it's way into their legend."
"Who knows? Maybe it's his summer retreat?"

"Winterglade has been thinking. <Melt in the Tears of the Land under the Sun of Clear Sky>. Maybe the waters of this island need to be heated up somehow - by the sun? Should we put a cauldron with water from this pool on that sun-heated rocks? Could that be the part the brewer needs to play? Either way, we are most likely to be attacked sometime soon. It could be a behir, a monstrous centipede, or about half a dozen of other creatures, and Winterglade hasn't decided yet which option is the most appealing."

Brahmah
Friday August 10th, 2007 5:42:00 AM

"Ten legs. Claws. No dragon I know has ten legs. Five bipeds maybe? They stop in the outcrop. Take cover for now."

He notes the position of his bear and then returns his glance to the outcrop. Draws, strings and knocks an arrow. Silently instructs Mosushi, Zeoll and Gecktar to approach with him. Others to stay away until needed.

Flat-top  d20+6=22
Friday August 10th, 2007 7:26:48 AM

While heading for the Outcrop, Flat-top tell Winterglade "I was under the influance of the Black Sword at the time! Beside I did not cut you, the Sword just wanted your Blood! So I gave it mine!"

Flat-top will lean on the Rock to get away from the Sun. Also watching to Scratching of that Gyser. But reall wnting to jump in that hole.

Spoting - 22

Kael
Friday August 10th, 2007 10:41:50 AM

Kael watches as the scouts sneak off to the outcropping. The turns his attention to the remaining taurs. The fact that he was outnumbered by centaurs did not make him feel any better.

"I do not think it is wise to split up?" Kael puffs nervously on his pipe. "We don't even know what's out here."

Brahmah
Friday August 10th, 2007 3:40:59 PM

Looks at Kael and raises an eyebrow. This is such a familiar argument, there's no way Kael could know how frequent.
"You'd have us ALL die, sword in hand and laying next to our corpses for just anyone to find? Or would you rather have a back up plan?" He looks curiously at the brewer. He retrieves a whistle from his bag and hands it to his aged peer. "Blow it if you get into trouble, we'll come running." He smirks and winks and heads off with a small squad of Chosen toward the outcrop.

The Sunning Stones (Last Post As Subbing DM Cayzle)
Friday August 10th, 2007 5:16:30 PM

A few Chosen stay at the bubbling pool; others walk to the sunning stones. Only about 100 feet seperate the two. And the sun is still high, but based on the clawmarks that are obvious on the rock, it seems likely that the claw-footed creatures come out at sunset. You still have an hour or two before that, even after looking the island well over.

Do you wait for sunset? If so, where? If you seek concealment, how will you stay out of sight? What if monsters come out of the pool? What are your plans?

Kael
Friday August 10th, 2007 6:27:57 PM

Looks at the whistle, "It wasn't our safety that concerned me." Tossing the whistle back. "Odds are you will need this more than us."

Kael examines the terrain for a defend able position from the pool. "We'll keep our ears open for ya."

Moshushi

Also takes a look around. Are there any large stones which could be used to block off the hole with tracks?

"Once they come back Winterglade will suggest we move to the far end of the island and observe what comes out of this pond from afar. More options for us, this way."

The Return of DM Donna
Monday August 13th, 2007 11:00:44 AM

Although this post is definitely Out Of Character, it is very important.

First, thank you for your emails, I'm glad to be back!

Second, it's come to my attention that XPs have not been issued yet for the previous module, and this IS something that needs to be addressed.

So: all PCs who participated in the adventure in which the Black Sword was acquired from the ziggurat, please add 4000xp to your character's level.

If this bumps you up a level, please update your sheet accordingly.

Third, please email me with any nominations for Hero Points as well as Bonus XP for Roleplaying.

Meanwhile...your PC may contemplate the cryptic directions of Gargul as they lay in wait on the island.

The centaur does not look particularily worried. "Whatever lives in there is not likely to attack without provocation. As long as we stay away we should be able to safely take a look." [Uh, how far away from the pond are we waiting anyway? My suggestion would be as far as practically possible.]

Winterglade
Wednesday August 15th, 2007 4:44:41 AM

The centaur turns his face to the sun. Normally he would enjoy sunbathing, but the sea voyage has left his skin and mane covered with salt and he starts to become painfully aware of it. "Pity there's no pool one could safely bathe in... Winterglade longes for some normal land, without water all around him on the horizon..."

The sun sinks lower into the sky. There are still a good two hours or so left to the daylight. The sun is feeling rather nice this time of year.

Everyone in the party must roll a Listen check versus DC15. Those that fail don't notice any change in the ambient sound unless those that make the check bring it to their attention.

For those who make the check, Highlight to display spoiler: { you hear the sound of clicking that seems to be getting louder--something approaching those sunning stones, perhaps..?}

"Nah, all these pools seem too caustic to offer a refreshing dip."

"Look at that sun. Winterglade wonders if tomorrow we will have clear skies, too? Pity we didn't try to dip the blade in those pools today. We do have a time limit, after all." [Listen 19] The centaur's ramblings are suddenly interrupted. "Shh! Did you hear that? Sounds like some kind of... insect?" There is a <ka-click> as Winterglade straps on his shield.

Something Chitinous This Way Comes - DM Donna
Friday August 17th, 2007 1:26:59 AM

(OOC: aaaack...missed my own deadline thanks to pressing personal errands. Ah well...here's the turn:)

After some of the Chosen point out to the others that there seems to be something approaching the sunning stones...something approaches the sunning stones!

There appears as a group about a dozen or so creatures, each of them about 10 feet tall or so. They resemble mutant praying mantises. (mantisus? mantisae?)

Big ugly bugs. Grayish-green coloring. All of them are heading for the sunning stones...apparently to go...sunning.

What does the party choose to do?

Toros
Friday August 17th, 2007 2:18:21 AM

Toros thinks to himself, maintaining his position.
However, he is ready to move in regard to the actions of the other Chosen.

Winterglade

"Wow!" - comes the whisper of the centaur. "Winterglade has never before seen anything so... ugly. No point provoking a fight here, yes?"

Gecktar

Good Guidance - DM Donna
Friday August 17th, 2007 6:33:08 PM

The Guidance spells, coupled with the Knowledge checks, seem to answer a few questions:

The creatures are apparently a form of Ahnkheg, but their coloration seems to indicate that they are an aquatic variety rather than the normally-known landbound species. Ahnkhegs are big bug-creatures and not a threat to most intelligent life unless they're hungry and looking for food. When they're hunting food, they utilize their lightning-fast giant claws and their ability to spit/squirt acid.

Winterglade

The centaur holds still. "A Divination? Zeoll thinks about the words that Gargul gave the group.

He also thinks about how the Eye of Gargul brought this new fellow for some important reason.

Hmmm.

Meantime, if Zeoll recognizes that the creatures are magical beasts with Int 1 or 2, then he will try to befriend them with a Wild Empathy check. He gets a 21! Woo hoo!

(If they are not magical beasts, or if Zeoll does not know, then he will not try!)

Zeoll is ready to cast his invisibility spell if things go belly up!

Why Can't We Be Friends? - DM Donna  d20=3
Monday August 20th, 2007 5:07:35 PM

DM OOC: say...is that priest of Gargul with the Chosen as you are all hunkered about and observing these aquatic Ankhegs?

Zeoll tries to befriend the giant bugs.

HOW does he do this? Inquiring minds want to know.

Zeoll
Monday August 20th, 2007 6:04:18 PM

Zeoll uses his wild empathy to befriend the bug things. He squats down and adopts their posture as best his four-legs-and-two-arms can. He imitates their chittery sounds. He offers tasty goodberries plucked from the wreath on his head -- rolling them towards the creatures, but not at them. He cocks his head in a way he thinks will show peaceful intentions and not a challenge.

[OOC1: I'm pretty sure the Gargul cleric came with us from the boat.]

[OOC2: Friends, I helped Donna WRITE this module, so don't expect Zeoll to solve any riddles or propose what to do! This Wild Empathy gambit is just a whim that I only thought of today -- NOT a way out of our problems that I know of. Get thinking and acting, people! Did Domi choose you only for brawn, or did he look for some brains too? Ha!]

Winterglade
Tuesday August 21st, 2007 1:33:49 AM

Winterglade watches Zeoll's attempt with his head tilted to the side. "Interesting. Does he do that often? How did he manage to stay alive that long?"

"Winterglade thinks we should sum up the facts. We know we should dissolve the blade in the Tears of the Land, which almost certainly means waters of this island. We should do that under the Sun of Clear Sky, which could mean either literally doing that during a period of nice weather, or perhaps that some kind of heating is in order. We know that our brewer here, Kael, needs to play a part in the role, so probably a direct dunk is not a solution we are looking for. Any ideas, Brewer? These waters smell caustic, could you distill acid from them?"

Flat-top spots(25) the Eye's of the cretures, they have very funny eyes, It's like hundreds of pebbles in one eye scoket??. Making them a very dangerious enemy.

He gets an idea, maybe a stupid one, but an idea none the less. He makes his arms like their arms (bending his arms like theirs's) Then hops (Jump 27) back like they would.

By now he is swetting arrows, but tell the others, "This maynot work! but I have to try some thing?? Anything! is better than nothing??"

Brahmah
Tuesday August 21st, 2007 8:08:04 AM

Responding to Winterglade's inquiry. "No, Zeoll rarely handles these kind of beasts." He continues to remain ready, swords drawn, but suddenly struck by Mosushi's question.

Gecktar
Tuesday August 21st, 2007 9:00:44 AM

"These creatures have acid isn't it ? Maybe we could require them to spit their acid on the sword while the Sun shines in the blue sky.

Now the question is how we should require them to do that?

Maybe Brahmah or Zeoll could speak with them if they are animals."

Kael  d20+10=30
Tuesday August 21st, 2007 11:16:19 AM

Watching the centaurs perform their odd dances. "Perhaps we should wait and see what they do when they reach the outcropping?"

Glade's question is a good one, is there some way to distill the acid and increase it's potency? [Prof:Brewing nat.20+10=30; does that give me any insight as to my role here?]

Moshushi
Tuesday August 21st, 2007 12:14:43 PM

Mosh is backing away from the creatures slowly. They don't appear too dangerous or hostile, but might be excreting some fumes or something. that's the only possible explanation for Zeoll and Flat Top

Something in the Air? - DM Donna  d20=17
Tuesday August 21st, 2007 5:16:11 PM

Vern strokes his beard as he, too, considers how Zeoll and then Flat-top are acting. He notes that the group of ankhegs are definitely intrigued by the pair's antics (a couple of the smaller, apparently younger ones cautiously approach and poke at the goodberries on the ground.)

"I don't know much about these things, but I'm pretty sure that they don't eat metal." the cleric says. "However...if they manufacture acid...hmmm...sayyyyy...if we can get them to produce their acid...collect up a LOT of it in one place...consecrate it...!" Vern's words, coupled with Gecktar's dialog and Kael's contemplation about how to possibly make acid even more strong, gives everyone in the party a chance to suddenly become inspired with a solution!

Everyone in the party please roll an (ahem) Inspiration check. Straight d20, please. I'll let you know what your check actually yields in the next post.

Meanwhile, Kael is, indeed, pretty sure that he can make an even more effective acid than usual...utilizing both the water AND any acid produced by a beast like...oh...say...those ankhegs.

Toros  d20=6
Tuesday August 21st, 2007 10:27:07 PM

Toros continues to watch cautiously what the ankhegs are doing.
In the meantime the group talk about acid to destroy the sword attracts his attention, and he hopes for some inspiration finding a Chosen for a solution.

(d20, 6)

Winterglade  d20=16
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 2:17:44 AM

"Now we are getting somewhere. But - oh dear. From what Winterglade knows they don't spit acid unless desperate or frustrated. It would really be a shame to have to kill them to harvest their venom. Let's see if our jumpy fuzball can persuade them to help."

"If that doesn't work somebody could try to pester them from the air. Then the acid would be the only thing they could use against him. The only problem is, how to collect the acid spat into your eye at high speed? Do we even have any container that could safely hold it for a while?"

Gecktar  d20=20
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 3:11:31 AM

Glades thoughts are just the same as Gecktar as he is trying to think how they could store sufficient acid to dissolve the sword...
An now idea come to him... Except... "I've heard of a simple wizard spell that creates an extradimentional space... Does any of our spellcaster know about it ?

(OOC: Gecktar seems to be very, very inspired...)

Flat-top  d20=18
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 7:00:20 AM

Flat-top Looks back, where the Smaller one of these odd species , are acting like Heyou??

"Well1 Well! These young ones have the same love of berries?? Let's see what they do when we put a handfull of berries?"

Flat-top puts down a half handfull on the ground, then jumps back next to the box (with the Sword in it??, putting berrieson the box (without touching the Box.)

"Now let's see if they fight over the berries, Like most children do when there is not enought to go around? They might spit acid on the box and destroy it? Hmm! worth a try? Captain?"

Moshushi  d20=2
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 12:57:03 PM

Moshushi is far too wrapped up in gawking at the ankhegs and wannabe ankhegs.

"Winterglade, perhaps a flying rock?"

makes a rock float about with the hand of the mage.

"It's not very threatening, but they might spit at it"

Zeoll  d20+19=22
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 1:40:18 PM

The liontaur seems oblivious to his freinds as he tries to tame an ankheg. He tries again to coax one closer and put it at ease. This time he tries music, gently getting out his drum and tapping a compelling rhythm.

Fascinate effect: Perform check 22 = Will save DC. Not Zeoll's best, but still good enough, he hopes.

Brahmah  d20=9
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 1:55:52 PM

Perplexed and frustrated, the ranger shakes his head. "Damned if I know what to do. I'm just the leader!" He sits down.

(Aaaaaahh, ooh-kaaayy? Inspiration check? 9, He is less than 50% inspired)

He bobs in tune with Zeoll's song.

Brahmah
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 1:57:35 PM

"Don't harm them though, if you can help it. They have more of a right to this island than us."

When Inspiration Strikes - DM Donna  d20=1
Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 7:22:04 PM

Everyone in the party is thinking very, very hard about this one.

Mosushi makes his rock float, but the most that this tactic seems to do is garner some staring before the two smallest (youngest?) ankhegs try batting the floating rock at each other in some kind of game.

Toros is pretty sure that, of the two playing ankhegs, the one with the most blue-green blotches on its abdomen is going to "out-bat" the other.

Brahmah is equally sure that Toros is wrong.

Within Winterglade's mind, the mystic advice and their current situation seem to come together...if there were some way of getting a container that could hold enough acid in it so that the sword could be placed within it...an acid-proof container, of course...then THAT may be the answer!

Flat-top, while trying to tempt the littlest ankhegs, suddenly comes up with the very same idea that Winterglade does! In fact, he even thinks of something else: if the group could find a way to get the ankhegs to cooperate, then it's likely that none of them have to get hurt!

Gecktar seems to have THE most brilliant flash of inspiration of all: get the ankhegs to produce the acid, use the acid in a specific brewing process to make it ultra-powerful, put as much of that ultra-powerful acid into an acid-proof container that will be large enough to hold the sword and the acid both, consecrate the acid under the conditions stated in the rhyme AND put the sword in it under all those conditions!

Yes, by George, Gecktar thinks he's got it!!!

Meanwhile it looks like Zeoll definitely has a captive audience.

Brahmah
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 1:44:04 AM

Brahmah is a willing follower at this stage. "As long as the sword is gone, I don't care how it happens."

Winterglade
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 2:21:49 AM

"Right. We need a distilled acid, so having them directly spit at sword or at rock might not work. First order of business: acid proof container. Winterglade can make a stone basin of proper size using his power over earth, just like he did to make bridges for us before. What he doesn't know is if, say, five inches of stone will contain this powerful acid long enough to distill it and dissolve the sword in it. Our brewer here will need to supply him with an estimate of dimensions for the container. But this will have to wait until tomorrow, for Winterglade is not ready to perform such magic today."

"Secondly, we'll need to fill it up with acid. So far they seem to be not responsive to Zeoll. Does anybody here have power to influence them in any way? Winterglade doesn't. As a last resort Winterglade could put walls around three sides his basin, summon some kind of creature inside it, and then hope that the acid spat at it will stay in the basin when the creature is dismissed, but he will welcome better ideas."

Flat-top
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 7:20:48 AM

Flat-top watches the teeh age bugs, "Winterglade! Better Come uo with something!! I'll in the frount row here? AND I don't like acid baths!"

Gecktar
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 8:30:18 AM

"The idea of stone bassin is great, and I hate to not have thought about this first."

"I two have the power to shape the earth but as you Glade, not yet... And I don't know if we will be able to wait until this time..."

"Don't think those beasts will be patient enough"

"Then what about looking for a narural bassin, this island seems tormented and volcanic. I gues we could find one near this place."

Moshushi
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 1:33:51 PM

"They don't seem very threatening, at least not yet. Maybe we confuse them."

Talk to the Animals - DM Donna
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 5:45:49 PM

Vern watches Zeoll continue his rapport with the ankhegs.

"You know...if Zeoll can cast a spell to communicate with them, I'll bet those big buggy things will cooperate." the cleric points out. "After that, it's merely a matter of getting all the ingredients needed together under the right conditions...then I complete the efforts with the blessings of Gargul and the deed can be done."

All that is needed now is confirmation from Zeoll and from Kael that they can cast Speak with Animals and brew that acid, respectively.

Toros
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 9:43:19 PM

"I have got a philter for speaking with animals,
anyone who wants to talk with these creatures can use it" offers Toros.

Toros
Thursday August 23rd, 2007 9:48:39 PM

"Thinking twice, I also should have a Tongues scroll somewhere here". This could be handy too - to speak with these buggies, I mean."

Flat-top
Friday August 24th, 2007 6:19:05 AM

Now Flat-top is sweating arrows, because he's right up frount, looking into those beautiful Bugs Eyes. "Come on Guys! I'm NOT acid proof!"

Flat-top starts to look around, So he can retreat some place else, some how??

Zeoll  d20+6=24
Friday August 24th, 2007 7:06:42 AM

[OOC to Donna: Highlight to display spoiler: {Thing is, these are magical beasts, not animals. Speak to animals would not work on them, I think, by my reading of the rules. Things with with Int 1-2 don't have a language, so Tongues would not work. Frankly the Core rules offer very little that will work. But let me give it a shot.}]

Zeoll whispers to his friends, "I have not prreparred any spell that will let me talk with these crreaturres. Let me trry to furrtherr bend it to my will thrrough my drruidic arrts. Torros, if you think yourr potion might worrk, we can trry it."

Wild Empathy (with a -4 penalty to affect a magical beast): 24.

Winterglade
Friday August 24th, 2007 8:03:42 AM

The centaur is watching Flat-top's antics. "And exactly who forced you to approach them and do a mating dance? Try to tapdance out of there, maybe they'll let you go unhindered. Oh, and be sure to check if one of them has a cursed item you can get stuck with."

"Winterglade doesn't know if Tongues will work. They seem to be just animals, not capable of speech."

"Come on, let's take a look around the part of the island without bugs. Maybe we'll be lucky and find a natural hole in the stone we can use to collect acid." Winterglade starts to look around, taking care not to approach the ankhegs [Taking10 on Search: 11].

Moshushi
Friday August 24th, 2007 11:20:21 AM

"I wonder what they eat. Maybe they can be hired with food. Hopefully, they know of the legendary chewiness of liontaurs. Nothing like succulent centaurs or spicy minotaurs."

Brahmah
Friday August 24th, 2007 11:35:55 AM

The ranger is simply too tired to care, and lays back on a flat stone and is fast asleep in minutes.

Kael
Friday August 24th, 2007 12:13:14 PM

Kael looks on at the scattering group, and recalls someone mentioning a means of communication. "Toros is it? Could you use the Philter to convince them to supply us with acid? As for the Basin why don't we see what the Captain has on board the ship? I may have a solution if we come up short, but it will be tricky." Kael looks to the buggers, wondering what they had intended to do on the rocks if the group hadn't interrupted them.

"I'm sure if we get what we need I can brew us up something pretty potent."

[ooc:sorry bout the missed days, got called out of town]

Toros
Friday August 24th, 2007 1:06:24 PM

"Yes, lets try the philter to see if it works.
I am not that good at talking to the animals anyway, so if any one wants to give a try, here is the potion specially created for this..."

Toros offers his philter to any Chosen that may want to try speaking with these creatures.

He does so, and asks the creature to come with him.

Smokin' (with Philters) - DM Donna
Friday August 24th, 2007 5:56:08 PM

Flat-top's behavior is fascinating the ankhegs, but it is Zeoll's use of the Philter that seems to bring about a break-through in communications. Somehow it appears that the ankhegs understand what it is that the liontaur is requesting of them, and--miraculously!--they actually communicate back:

Zeoll Highlight to display spoiler: { We have seen one like you in the rest-time, yes... the oldest of the ankhegs communicates to Zeoll in its clicking tongue, pointing to Zeoll, then Flat-top and then the snoozing Brahmah, ...one who is like you...and you...and you...but all as one, not as three. This one fills our minds even now...this one says to give you the meltwater that we use to hunt. This one warns that it must be done for you before highsun, for you and your kind have things to do before highsun. We will help...you must show us where to leave the meltwater.}

The only thing that the rest of the group hears is the clicking of one of the bigger ankhegs, which proceeds to wave one of its large appendages at Zeoll and then at Flat-top, and then at Brahmah as well.

Glade finds a nearby boulder that (oh, lucky, lucky Chosen!!!) has a depression in the top...it forms a natural stone oval "sink" of sorts, about five feet long by maybe one-and-a-half feet wide. It looks to be maybe six inches at its deepest point, four or so inches on the average, sloping up to shallower depths at the outer edges of the oval.

Flat-top
Saturday August 25th, 2007 8:49:31 AM

Flat-top eyes widdens as big as his shield "Mating Dance?? You mean to say, that's a female?? And want to mate with a Centaur?? I didn't think I was that good a dancer."

"Glade! Do something! These kind of Species?? Don't they BITE their mates heads off after mating??" Ask Flat-top.

"Captain! Wake up and do something!! She getting getting closer!!" Cries the Center. (and I mean CRIES, Big Baby!)

Winterglade
Sunday August 26th, 2007 3:08:25 AM

[Mosushi:] "I wonder what they eat."

"Yeah, Winterglade was wondering, too. Most probably fish. But we won't know until we see them go hunting or actually have to cut one up."

[Kael:] "As for the Basin why don't we see what the Captain has on board the ship?"

"Actually, that might not be neccessary. Come and take a look at this!" - the centaur points to the small altar-like stone he has just found. "Looks like Gargul prepared everything for our arrival. Will this stone do?"

The centaur then slowly trots over to Flat-top. "Winterglade thinks it's mantes that snack on heads." - he says, without much conviction in his voice. "Tell you what, let's not stick around to find out? Zeoll seems to be doing great by himself. Come, help us with the sword. Try to back away with me, no sudden moves."

Flat-top
Sunday August 26th, 2007 6:46:15 AM

Flat-top who is still swetting, answers Winterglade, "I'm with you, Pal1 Grab my tail and lead the way!"

If Winterglade does grab flat-top tail, Flat-top will back out as Winterglade lead the way.

Kael Examines the basin. "This should suit our needs. How are we coming along with acquiring the creature's acid?"

Zeoll
Monday August 27th, 2007 2:55:29 PM

The liontaur bows down, honoring a higher power that has taken him by surprise. He stands and nods to the magical beasts. "It will be as you say, helpful ones," he tells them.

Turning to his fellow Chosen, Zeoll says, with amazement in his voice, "It's a mirracle! Domi has inspirred these crreaturres to help us! They have seen a Unitaurr in drreams! They will give us the acid we need."

He is glad that Winterglade has found a suitable place. He motions to the youngest and oldest of these creatures. (The youngest is the one he had sung to.) "Please place the meltwater here, in this hollow," he asks.

"Stand back, frriends. I do not want them starrtled orr you all splashed!"

Kael
Monday August 27th, 2007 6:09:06 PM

Heeds Zeoll's advice and steps back from the basin, well out of splash range.

Back to the Story - DM Donna
Wednesday August 29th, 2007 4:53:04 PM

OOC: thank you, everyone, for sending the requested emails. Hopefully the problems with my email service providers is solved now.

The ankhegs acknowledge that they must render their assistance, but they haven't been told how to do that. Apparently they are waiting for instructions on what is expected of them--instructions that have to come directly from the Chosen.

Vern points out that the theory so far is that any acid the Chosen manage to harvest is supposed to get brewed into an even more potent form, and that will take Kael some time to do.

Kael also needs to post the "acid harvesting" procedures he prefers--as in where will the acid be kept before it's brewed, since the obvious "after" location is that natural sink the Chosen was luck to find.

And, now that Winterglade has been so kind as to mention it, there is still a group of bad guys out there somewhere that are determined to get their hands on this sword.

Kael
Wednesday August 29th, 2007 5:18:38 PM

[ooc: never having brewed acid I thought the basin was enough for the process]

Kael heads back to the boat to see if there are any suitable containers for acid, looking for heavy wooden barrels. If lacking those he will gather up glass bottles and jars.

Moshushi
Wednesday August 29th, 2007 11:53:36 PM

Kael, ale me!

Gecktar
Thursday August 30th, 2007 2:43:20 AM

"There should be marmites on boards. Else how will they prepare meal for so many people. I think we could head to get that back." he says while following Kael.

And answering Glade about his bad feeling "You're right, they use to be at the worst place at the worst moment. We should stay alert."

Gecktar follows Kael to get back to the ship trying to come back with something that would help brewing.

Winterglade
Thursday August 30th, 2007 4:10:57 AM

Winterglade helps with carrying the required equipment to the island. He does his best to avoid having to put his hoof on the ship - instead he helps to pull stuff up the cliff using ropes. "Let's try to get this over with before it gets dark. Any ship approaching the island will be spotted by us long before it lands, but there are such things as Teleport..."

Flat-top
Thursday August 30th, 2007 6:19:07 AM

Flat-top tries to remember if there's any real danger in store for his two friends(??) Or if there's more danger here among the springs?

He will ask his Captain, "Captain! I think that there's more danger going back to the Ship! I mean in meeting up with the Evil gang! Would it not be a good idea to send, at least one fighter with them? Like Toros or Me?"

Flat-top waits for an answer from his Captain Brahmah.

Brahmah
Thursday August 30th, 2007 11:36:00 AM

"Agreed. No one is returning to the ship alone or in small number. The sword must be destroyed first before we return."

Kael
Thursday August 30th, 2007 12:57:07 PM

"If we don't have the supplies how are we to destroy the sword?"

Zeoll
Thursday August 30th, 2007 3:18:02 PM

Zeoll asks Kael, "Do you need tools to enchant the acid? If so, then let thrree of us escorrt you back to the ship. Otherrwise, let us do what we can herre and be done! Maybe you will not need yourr usual tools, orr maybe they will be prrovided."

"Afterr all, mirracles arre afoot!"

Kael
Thursday August 30th, 2007 4:09:16 PM

[ooc: It was never exactly made clear to me as a player what is involved in this brewing process. Am I using magic, or more mundane means? My character may know, but me as a player has no clue.Should I make something up or do you have something in mind?]

Strange Brew - DM Donna  d100=47
Thursday August 30th, 2007 6:14:01 PM

Kael's knowledge of brewing (and the properties of acid) confirm that he must use glass vessels in order to sufficiently concentrate the acid; he remembers that there are such containers on board the ship (specifically in the galley, as well as the captain having an item or two that should come in handy for the brewing process.)

Kael & his escort fetch forth the items needed to begin the brewing process. The first step is to make the ankhegs understand that they must direct their acid spit (ewwww!) into the large-ish fishbowl that used to be in the captain's cabin.

The ankhegs are still in a cooperative mood. Zeoll must make them understand exactly where they need to aim. (Please make another Animal Empathy check, Zeoll; the DC to beat is 15. Failure means there's a 25% chance that the ankhegs accidentally destroy a non-magical item that their acid lands on [the exterior of someone's backpack...a waterskin...you get to pick the item, really--it's an RP opportunity].)

Kael must roll another Brew check versus DC18 in order to make sure he's creating the acid at an effective enough strength.

Everyone in the party must roll a Spot check and a Listen check (both versus DC18); the results of successful checks will be posted tomorrow.

Zeoll does his best to make himself understood ... Wild Empathy check 13 -- d'oh! One youngster misunderstands, and sprays Zeoll's pack with burning acid! It burns through the leather and etches the large steel mirror that Flat-top gave him a while back, when we were worried about medusas, or something.

Zeoll makes light and tries again: a 14! This time his belt pouch takes a blow, and along with it, 82 gold pieces worth of pearls are dissolved!

Zeoll forces himself to laugh, haha, and tries again: so close! Another 13 -- and the misunderstandings just pile up! He waves his hand, and one ankheg sprays the liontaur's hand! That gives Zeoll an ouchie (17 hp worth of ouch!) and this time it is his brand new signet ring that Brahmah just gave him! Gosh darn it!

"I'm sorrry, Brrahmah," Zeoll says, blushing.

"Well, fourrth time pays all, I always say," grins Zeoll through clenched teeth. And at last his perserverence pays off, with a 19, and the ankhegs finally get the gist of what they are to do.

"Thank Domi," mutters Zeoll, and never was so brief a prayer also so heartfelt!

Watching and Waiting...and Brewing, Woo Hoo! - DM Donna
Monday September 3rd, 2007 7:12:43 PM

DM OOC: d'oh! Didn't mean to miss Friday's post--I was busy in Real Life.

In spite of all the erroneous spit-takes, Zeoll manages to get the ankhegs to aid in producing enough acid for Kael to work with--the sun has definitely sunk below the horizon before the group's resident brewer is able to announce that he has managed to create enough premium-grade, industrial-strength acid for the ceremony that the Chosen (and Vern) will be performing on the morrow.

With all the eyes and ears keeping very careful watch, there are no surprises for the Chosen--if there had been anyone or anything even thinking of sneaking up on the group, most of you would have seen or heard it!

Fortunately, however, there is naught but blessed peace...for now.

Okay...which PCs will have what watch?

Brahmah
Monday September 3rd, 2007 7:44:12 PM

"Slightly different watches tonight. Three hour watches. I'll split shift."

First, Zeoll, Vern, Kael, Brahmah.
Second, Mo, Flat-top, Gecktar.
Last, Glade, Toros, Brahmah.
(Any suggestions for watch swapping are more than welcome. I realized after making the watches that they were only six hours, but I wanted more support per shift.)

Maybe this set is better? Four hour shifts. Darn you spell casters! I wanted the ritual members to get the most rest possible.
1)Brahmah, Toros
2)Flat-top, Gecktar

If necessary, Brahmah will stay up all night on watch. He will take all watches.

Prepared Spells: (if able to prepare)
Alarmx2, Pro from Acid

Note: Alarm will be cast using the Rod of Lesser Extend at the beginning of First Watch.

(OOC: Friends, please tell me in your next post what 'tattoos' and distinguishing markings your PC's have please. I'm making notes and would like this info. Thanks. :))

Zeoll
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 12:55:37 AM

Zeoll takes a watch and then rests as Brahmah suggests.

Zeoll, by the way, is notable for the feathers, beads, and bells woven in his mane and tail, for his greatsword, for his beautiful cloak, for the living wreath of leaves and berries that grows on his head, and for two tattoos (0 level and 1st level).

Gecktar
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 3:13:54 AM

Winterglade
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 3:52:36 AM

The centaur is visibly very glad to spend a night on a firm ground for a change and does not seem to be looking forward to boarding the ship. He is quiet during the first half of the evening watch, dozing off while standing as is his custom. He spends the rest of the night awake, patiently working on his most recent project, a dark grey cloak [putting eight more hours of work into Setanos's Robes].

Winterglade has recently taken to wearing heavy plate armour, but he still covers most of his person with a large traveling cloak. His most prominent distinguishing features would be his huge shield and his white mane. Aside from an utility knife he doesn't carry weapons. He has no tattoos.

Brahmah
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 7:18:59 AM

Seemingly happy, so far, with the watch set up, Brahmah will talk and lounge about.

Kael
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 1:40:37 PM

Kael takes a watch if required, but makes sure to get enough rest to replenish his mind.

Kael is an older minotaur with a long braided beard and an ever present ornate pipe. He has no tattoos, but a few minor scar from past adventures.

Spells to be memorized.
0 -- Detect Magic, Mage Hand, Message, Light
1st- Unseen Servant, Enlarge Person, Shield, Endure Elements
2nd -- Invisibility, Bull Strength, Mirror Image, See Invisible
3rd -- Haste, Lightning Bolt, Gaseous Form,

Toros
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 3:26:05 PM

Toros takes his watch as Brahmah suggests.
When he rests, he has a sleep busy with dreams full of bugs that split acid everywhere..!

Toros - appearance note
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 3:32:33 PM

Toros is a mid-sized wemic. His torso is full of items and equipment that also hide his tattoo at the moment.

Moshushi
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 7:04:01 PM

Moshushi is happy to know we'll be leaving soon. He'll swap out all other third level spells for protection from energy in the morning

He's a dark maned liontaur with some prominent scars on his chest and arms that look to be old claw marks, though they're generally covered by a cloak. He's rather scrawny by wemic standards but still carries a large sword on his back.

Ever Watchful - DM Donna  d20=17
Tuesday September 4th, 2007 9:16:16 PM

The cloak of night descends upon the island. The cooperative ankhegs retire for the evening. Stars twinkle peacefully in the heavens. Little animals go about the business of hunting...or being hunted.

The watches pass by uneventfully (hooray!)

The sunfinally pokes up over the horizon, shining bright and clear.

DM OOC: if you have any last minute preparations or specific spells or the like that you need to make sure is available to your PC (if applicable), then post it! My next post will advance the time to when the Chosen are following the directions they've gleaned about the rhyming prophecy.

Brahmah  d20+12=30
Wednesday September 5th, 2007 1:37:22 PM

Boredom couldn't take the ranger any further this morning. Brahmah wakes from an early nap, sees that things are fine and progressing slowly, then he rolls back over and falls right back to sleep. This week has been very long, boring and drawn out for Brahmah. He can't wait until they can leave. It just seems to be taking a little too long... almost like Rebbe is drawing it out for some reason. Maybe its just mistrust and paranoia, but there's just something too weird about this whole sorted affair. He clinches his hilts tight, shaking himself fully awake but not opening his eyes. His ear is alert and listening. (Listen 30, plus ranger favored enemies.)

Gecktar
Wednesday September 5th, 2007 5:03:40 PM

Gecktar will help Kael if necessary, else he will prepare the meal.
They will have to gather some strength for the upcoming ritual...

Moshushi
Wednesday September 5th, 2007 5:18:28 PM

Moshushi will see if Gecktar needs a hand. If not, he'll find a nice rock to use as a seat and keep his eyes open for company. It may appear to the untrained eye that he's sunbathing, but he's actually being diligent

Kael
Wednesday September 5th, 2007 5:50:21 PM

The centaur is awake to see the sun rise over the horizon. With no place for his morning run he will have to do with the powers that he has left from before boarding the ship.

"Here we are, under the sun of the clear sky. Shall we begin?"

Flat-top
Thursday September 6th, 2007 7:37:24 AM

Flat-top still stands there waiting for things to happen, but will look around to see if Hayou has not gotten in trouble.

Brahmah
Thursday September 6th, 2007 10:59:39 AM

Thankful someone has actually said what he's thinking, Brahmah sits up and looks at Glade. "Yes, can we? Please? I want off this rock."

The Time Draws Nigh - DM Donna
Thursday September 6th, 2007 11:14:08 AM

Kael sees Vern signal to him and has that Unseen Servant pour the industrial strength acid into the basin. The redheaded cleric begins to chant and pray. Everyone present becomes aware of a creeping sort of change to the very atmosphere--the nature of the divine magic being invoked, no doubt.

The anticipation of the coming event is rather palpable--the sun is at its highest point in the sky.

"Quickly now--" Vern says, "--put the blade into the basin..!"

Who will remove the sword from its box and put it into the acid..?

Brahmah
Thursday September 6th, 2007 1:55:00 PM

Brahmah is the first to the box. "Will someone please hold my weapons? I would like to do this, if there are objections, please state them now." He unstraps his scabbards and belt and hands them off.
"No, wait! On second thought." He looks at Flat-top and smiles. "I think you owe this sword, Flat-top. It controlled you and this will be ironic revenge. Will you do it?"

Moshushi
Thursday September 6th, 2007 4:38:10 PM

Protection of energy (acid) for whoever is the lucky one to dunk the sword.

"Good riddance to that thing."

Kael
Thursday September 6th, 2007 6:00:52 PM

Kael hear's Brahmah's comment.

"The sword controlled him? Are we sure it won't do it again?"

Gecktar
Friday September 7th, 2007 2:56:39 AM

Gecktar prays to Domi for Him to protect them againt all evil.
"Domi will protect the one that will be wielding the sword. I will put the Bless of Domi on him"

OOC:

2)Gecktar will use his protection domain ability granting +7 on a save to the one that will wield the sword.

Flat-top
Friday September 7th, 2007 7:11:06 AM

Flat-top steps back in suprise?? "Me! Touch that evil thing again??" Then a smile crosses his face, "But what a revenge to put that evil thing in the acid!"

The center turns to Zeoll to ask him a favor, "Zeoll, if you please hypmatise me with the sugestion of puting this sword into the acid! I don't want to use it on any one! Like the last time! If I do swing that sword, Kill Me!"

With this said Flat-top will approch the box, touch his tattoo (of Protetion from Evil), then bends over the gleeming Black Sword. He will pick up the Black Sword. Now to make his way to the acid??

Zeoll
Friday September 7th, 2007 7:53:41 AM

"That's a good idea, Flat-top!" Zeoll casts Charm Person on Flat-top, and follows up with a Suggestion spell -- and he explains again to the charmed centaur exactly what he needs to do.

Then he says a prayer to Tomi and stands back.

Brahmah
Friday September 7th, 2007 12:47:44 PM

"Oh, you better believe it did Kael. It wasn't really part of the plan, but it ended up with us in the end." He moves over to Flat-top, fastening his scabbards on again. Then draws his swords. "It seems to dislike magic users, arcanists really. But I'll be the first body Flat-top will encounter before anyone of of you." He interposes himself between Flat-top and the group. "Trust me, if the sword controls him again, I'll lay on some hurtin' before he reaches you." He smirks at the looks, "Don't worry, your captain will come out of this in good shape!" He winks and laughs. "Ready Flat-top, Zeoll? Oh yes, anyone with a Hold Person, ready it and target Flat-top when its clear he is possessed, if it happens."

The centaur is standing a bit away from the Taurs gathered around the basin, his face showing that he is very disturbed. "You would invoke revenge in a moment like this? Whom do you serve, the Brawler or Jancassis?..."

Flat-top
Saturday September 8th, 2007 9:02:10 AM

After a little pause, Flat-top Plunges the blade of the Black sword into the acid!! The sword yells (through the mouth of Flat-top) "NO! NO! Don't do this to Me! I'll grant you Super Powers!"

You hear a 'Hsss' sosound as it start to disapere in the acid. "Your a fool to think that these taurs are your friends! They'll leave you to Die the first chance they geTTT Heeelp Meeee!"

Finally, Flat-top lets go of the hilt of sword, Now the evil sword disapears disapears into the well earned death!.

Flat-top turns to Brahmah, "Captain! I think I did the deed? I was fighting a terrible demond, But I think I did it.?"

Flat-top swets as he disolves the Black Sword. His hand shakes, but he hold the hilt ontil the last moment, then let's go the last of that evil sword.

He torns to Brahmah, "Ok! the deed is done. No More Black sword is distroyed. I Don't know who put a silence spell on it, but it help alot!"

Now Flat-top turns to Brahmah and ask, "Where to now Captain? Back home?"

"I'm not particular about where we go, so long as it's away.

Zeoll
Tuesday September 11th, 2007 11:32:39 AM

Zeoll watches closely -- Did Flat-top dissolve the sword, or did he only THINK he did? Could this be a trick? Zeoll pays VERY close attention. He activates his new Tattoo of Detect Evil to help him sense when the evil of the Sword is at last at an end!

Brahmah
Tuesday September 11th, 2007 1:13:56 PM

Silent spell? Trick?

These words float aimlessly in the minotaur's brain, creaking and turning, cogs moving.

Did the sword seem like it was the REAL black sword or a replica? How interesting? Why did this JUST occur to the minotaur. Stupid!

He turns to Rebbe. Looks at Rebbe's gear and turns back to the mysterious person who just seemed to appear when the sword needed to be destroyed.

"Rebbe, where is the black sword." He stands and approaches Rebbe, swords still drawn. "Call me paranoid, but it seems awfully odd that that sword did nothing, NOTHING, to fight its way free. And it just so happens this ritual to silence to 'lock' the evil could ONLY happen after a period of time and out of the way on a remote island?"

He turns to the Chosen. "Did anyone actually SEE Rebbe put the Black Sword into the box back on land? Seems quite convienient that we're out of the way and the sword did nothing to try to escape all the time it was on the ship."

"Where was the hand off made? Mainland? The ship? Somewhere in between?"

He lets his statements sink in, silence filling the air.

(Gosh, I feel like the fool!)

Winterglade

The Long Quest Achieved

The End Of The Sword, Part 1 (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Thursday September 13th, 2007 3:30:31 PM

Flat-top is open to the mental control of Zeoll, but the enchantment confuses him a little. He practices destroying the sword, and thnks for a moment that he has done so.

In the tumult that follows, some suspect trickery, others, betrayal.

But the Eye of Gargul remains calm. "Look, look, friends! The sword is still there in the centaur's hand!"

Zeoll confirms, with his detect evil spell, that the sword is still in Flat-top's hand. No swap has been made, and no destruction has taken place -- but now it can be!

Rebbe Vern casts a Consecrate spell on the basin of enchanted and enhanced acid. He looks up, and sees the noon sun overhead. He says, "Flat-top, now, as you practiced, put the Sword in the acid! Dissolve it!"

[OOC: Friends, Donna, alas, has had more computer trouble. I will be filling in for a little while.]

Toros
Thursday September 13th, 2007 9:14:21 PM

While Toros thinks all seem to be going well
he realizes that it is not the case, the sword is still there! Wemic looks at others with wondering eyes, trying to determine what will happen next.

Winterglade
Friday September 14th, 2007 3:29:39 AM

[Flat-Top:] "The Captain here will go and give you a kiss!"
"Oh no he doesn't. Not without a box of chocolates and a dinner date."

The centaur feels tense. In a moment several months of work will come to a conclusion. "Uh, tell you what... The rest of us should back away. Destroying artifacts is a risky business, there might be an uncontrolled burst of magical energies and secondary explosions."

Friday September 14th, 2007 8:13:51 AM

Flat-top has a questionable Look on his face, "Captain? Do I still have that blasted sword IN My HANDS?? Is this Sword tricking me AGAIN?? I'll try again! Like I said before, Kill me if I don't do it this time, I will try to drop IT into the Bowl of acid, When i have over the Bowl of Acid! Tap my shoulder. Ok! Now Here Goes."

Droping an Item - 17 (did I make it??)

"Just be RID of the DAMNED thing already!" The minotaur yells at the centaur. "Or I'll hack off your arm you stubborn mule!"

Zeoll
Friday September 14th, 2007 3:17:55 PM

The liontaur, too, is eager to see this sword destroyed and his old oath fulfilled. He remembers the words that Gargul spoke to him years before:

"Once long ago I forged a blade of dark and great power ... I thought it lost, but some seek it at this time, and it must not fall into their hands. I will not have my work used in such a way." He pauses to let this sink into the liontaur's head and give him time to come to grips with it. "It will be your duty and payment for your reentrance into the world of the living to acquire this sword ... then find a way to destroy it."

"At last," says Zeoll. "At last."

The End Of The Sword, Part 2 (Substitute DM Cayzle)
Sunday September 16th, 2007 9:54:52 PM

Flat-top feels the Evl Black Sword grasping at his mind, but the protections that are in place on him save him from the influence of the artifact.

"NNNOOOOooooooo!!" You all hear the last refusal of the sword in your heads as Flat-top lowers it into the magic acid.

The acid sizzles and boil. Flat-top lets go and steps back. In a matter of moments, the sword has dissolved. Zeoll can tell, through his detection of evil effects, that the evil of the sword is gone.

Your quest is complete.

The cleric of Gargul steps up. "Well done, Chosen. You have destroyed the Sword. Now behold the reward you have earned!"

The evil sword is gone. The pool of acid has also bubbled away. In the basin there are black pearls, each marked with the eye-symbol of Gargul. There are enough for each of the Chosen to take one. "Please, each take an Eye. Your reward has seldom been seen in mortal memory. You are favored indeed."

Do you each take a caved, black-pearl eye?

Winterglade  d20+6=8 d20+7=25
Monday September 17th, 2007 4:24:45 AM

The centaur sighs and relaxes. "It is done. Winterglade's vow has been completed. He is a free centaur once again."

He approaches the basin and gently picks up a black pearl, holding it in the palm of his hand. The precious stone glistens in the sun and the centaur smiles in amazement. "It's... mesmerising." Winterglade tries to recall any mention of such pearls he might have come across [Knowledge(Religion):8, Knowledge(Arcana):25].

"Please tell us more about the gift we have received, Eye. It seems fitting that we should carry it with full understanding of its significance."

Flat-top pick uup a Black Pearl an examines it?? "Yeeks! It has an Eye on it!! but I's kind of cute. I think I'll keep it, It will remind me of the adventure we had here."

"Well Now! Captain Brahmah! Where to Now??"

Brahmah
Monday September 17th, 2007 11:29:19 AM

Brahmah pockets the pearl eye without question. He was sure that the pearl's powers would make itself known in time.

"The next goal, of MINE anyway, is to return and finish off that doctor on that island!
Vargas can wait. He's been greatly diminished by us and will surely find us! He'll come to us. After all, revenge is his style. If his 'master' feels the fall of the sword, he'll find us in short order, taking his revenge and that is when we finish the lot of Minions. No mercy this time." His face is impassive and not like his own, too serious to be the Captain.

"We might have time for a shopping trip, but first, how do we get off this rock?"

Gecktar
Monday September 17th, 2007 1:14:22 PM

Gecktar looks at the pearls where the sword once lies. Taking a gift from Gargul... Does it goes against his church ? He thinks no because these gods are allied and by destroying the sword, not only do they destroy a great evil, but go against the goals of Vargas.

He has lost two times in few days. His hate is going to be great. Then the great fight will have to take place once more.

He picks u p a pearl and look at it waiting for the answer of Gargul's priest.

The Black Pearls of Insight (Sub DM Cayzle)
Tuesday September 18th, 2007 7:28:17 AM

The pearls are not evil at all.

As each Taur takes a pearl, he immediately becomes aware of what the pearl does. The pearls open the mind to new ideas and insights. They let you achieve things you otherwise could not have achieved before. Specifically, each pearl grants an Insight Bonus. Keep the pearl on your person, and you will automatically receive the bonus. Each pearl offers a different bonus:

Flat-top's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Spot
Zeoll's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Perform
Kael's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Profession (Brewer)
Winterglade's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Turn Undead checks
Brahmah's pearl's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Survival
Mosushi's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Concentration
Gecktar's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Spellcraft
Toros's pearl -- +5 insight bonus to Hide

The arcanists in the party -- especially Kael and Winterglade, since they made some checks! -- say that this is divination magic, and that it is not a surprise, considering that one of Gargul's domains is Insight.

Also, these are not magic items that are stocked on the shelves of magic shops. In fact, they are very rare, maybe unique, in the Wold. [OOC: You CANNOT buy or sell these in the Catacombs. You may be able to find an in-game buyer, if the DM allows. In Woldian terms, these are "fate items."]

The Eye of Gargul looks on in wonder. "You have been blessed by the god of Death and Birth. This is a great honor. Of course, you performed a great quest, so it makes sense."

"Whenever you are ready," Vern adds, "we can return to the ship and depart."

Flat-top
Tuesday September 18th, 2007 8:29:55 AM

Flat-top now has his eyes closed, as he realiseds what a great gift, "Oh! Where can i wear this wonderful Gift?? I know right behind my armor, next to my heart! there's a little hollow dent there, I'll put IT into a net pouch and IT will be next to my heart for ever.Thank you!"

To Vern, he tell him, "I'm ready to leave."

Winterglade
Tuesday September 18th, 2007 9:07:37 AM

As the awareness of the nature of the gift sinks in the centaur bares his teeth in a wicked smile. "Such a deceptively tiny thing. My little treasure, we'll be going places."

[Brahmah:] "The next goal, of MINE anyway, is to return and finish off that doctor on that island!"

Dangerous fires light up in centaur's eyes. "Oh. Oh yes, please. Winterglade was looking forward to leave all this sea voyaging behind, but if this is your next mission he will stick around for a little longer."

Kael
Tuesday September 18th, 2007 10:56:31 AM

Kael examines the exquisite gift, secures it safely, and turns to the others. "So, who is this doctor you keep mentioning?"

Brahmah
Tuesday September 18th, 2007 1:26:54 PM

(OOC: Cayzle, is the pearl something that has to be held, or simply owned, by the user for the insight power to work? Can it be mounted into a charm or jewelry? Can it be embedded into a horn or under skin? What are its affinities, if any? And will it count against a body slot? Sorry for the questions, but these are things we might need for future DM's knowledge. :))

Brahmah looks at Glade, then turns to answer Kael's question.
"Well, this doctor is someone who took us in without question, befriended some of the Chosen, drugged most of them at dinner and decided to hunter and then study the Chosen because we were abominations according him. So! I think he simply needs to be 're-educated' as to who is and who is not an abomination." He glances at the Chosen who were there on the island with him at the time. "I didn't like humbling myself to that elf and owlbear at all and I know I can never see THEM again, it WAS the doctor who brought the hunters."

Cayzle OOC
Tuesday September 18th, 2007 1:54:41 PM

A black pearl occupies no slot and can be worn or carried (even mounted in jewelry) as desired, so long as it is not damaged. Here is the formal write-up of the pearl that should be added to your character sheet:

Gargul's Black Pearl of Insight (Fate Item)
This beautiful black pearl of twice normal size and luster helps its possessor by opening the mind to new ideas and insights. When carried, as in a pocket or pouch, it bestows a +5 insight bonus on a particular d20 check. Each pearl helps a different check -- this one helps XXXXX.

Moderate divination; CL 20th; cannot be made by a mortal; price unknown, cannot be sold or bought at the Catacombs.

Zeoll
Tuesday September 18th, 2007 2:01:28 PM

Zeoll adds to Brahmah's story. "In addition, afterr all of us except Brrahmah werre capturred, we werre rreleased to be hunted by the Doctorr's guests, like beasts in a hunting game."

"As for me, I want to find out about the so-called "hunterrs" who took ourr possessions, especially ourr magical map, and go afterr them as well to get it back!"

[OOC: The magic map was another Fate Item, that is, a unique non-reproducible magic map of the Taur Isles that changed as the Isles changed!]

"I am eagerr to go back. But firrst, we need some time to trrain and meditate and prray. Winterrglade, would you come with us to ourr home on Brridge Isle, which I considerr to be yourr home too, forr a perriod of rrest? In addition to trraining, I have a magic item I wish to crraft, and that's a good place to do it. You might enjoy that too."

Brahmah considers Zeoll for several moments, then the rest of the Chosen.
"I realized something. The Chosen, myself included, spend an awful long time in personal pursuits, whether its revenge or crafting goods.
I know magical items are good in the long run, even my tattoos, but I think body and mind are most important at the moment. Toning them is key to success.
Vargas and his crew are seeking artifacts of extreme power for Marteaus' Dark Cause. We know this for fact. And we are sitting about creating toys and trinkets.

I think we should get into communication with the League and see if they know anything about a great 'good' artifact that will help defeat Martaeus' Minions. Or if they have heard of a group seeking evil artifacts." He pauses.

"I think this is an extension of our Unification mission... destroying evil items of power and collecting good articles for Domi, Gargul, Alemi... whoever.
I know Vern is only one individual with knowledge of THIS particular artifact, but I'm sure there are others out there with similar knowledge. And once Zeoll reaches his goals as a Seer, I think we will have a powerful new insight into any evil gear we seek."

He shakes his head, "The doctor will have to wait, for now. I think the place to start to regain the map is to find the ship we know the Hunters sailed to the island in. It has to have a port and manifest. We find the ship, we find the Hunters."
He suddenly claps his hand to his forehead in frustration. "Zeoll, the map! What if.... what if they get ahold of it?! Could mean bad news. What if they already have it?"

"We need back that map!"

Wednesday September 19th, 2007 3:23:33 AM

Gecktar listen to Zeoll and Brahmah.

He adds "If I remember well, the map was a tool we need to get the sword back and destroy it. Now it's done. But I agree that the particularity of the map, and the fact that it is keyed to the taur's island seems to prove that Domi's hand is not far.

This a unique item and probably blessed by Domi, but I'm not sure about that... This reason is sufficent for me to try to recorver it.

I will try to get back the track of the ship or have some clues about its home port. I just need a quiet place to call for the power of Domi.

Let's get back to the ship. I will use a cabin and try to have some peaceful moment so as to not spoil the divination."

Winterglade
Wednesday September 19th, 2007 3:33:19 AM

[Zeoll:] "Winterrglade, would you come with us to ourr home on Brridge Isle?"

"Well, seeing how there is just one ship docked here, Winterglade is along for the next leg of your trip, wherever it might take you. Actually, Bridge Island would be good - lots of ships weigh anchor there. By the way, you do realize that the Doctor is most likely killing innocent Taurs with every passing week, yes?"

Flat-top
Wednesday September 19th, 2007 7:47:16 AM

Flat-top answers the questions about the Dear Doctor, "AH! Yes! The dear doctor, I also would like to Meet again. Any time is fine with me. Today, Tomorow, any time."

Toros
Wednesday September 19th, 2007 9:45:58 AM

Toros immediately likes his black pearl,
knowing that it enhances his hiding skills.
This is a very precious present indeed.
He thanks the Eye of Gargul, and then confirms
that now it is time to face the doctor, one final time.

Farewell to the Tears of the Land (Sub-DM Cayzle)
Wednesday September 19th, 2007 10:41:35 AM

The Chosen stow their new pearls, then head for the shore. Vern waves a red cloth he had in his kit, and the ship launches the small boat that it had used before. After a couple trips. the Chosen are back on deck.

"Thank you, friends," says Vern. "Just let me know where you want to go, and I'll have the Captain take us there."

Brahmah
Wednesday September 19th, 2007 12:42:15 PM

"Vern, do you have a way to communicate with the League of Adventurers? I'm a member and require their services."

He directs the next question to the Chosen. "I have a question. Are we still interested in getting a way to communicate with each other at a distance? Something with telepathy or messenger? I think this something we should look into."

"We should also look into getting bracelets of friendship like Vargas had access too. Might come in handy! They are expensive though."

Getting to the ship, Brahmah looks at Vern. "Bridge Island I think!"

Moshushi
Wednesday September 19th, 2007 4:44:06 PM

"i haven't met the doctor before, but it sounds interesting. He needs to see how the Taurs hunt!"

Kael
Wednesday September 19th, 2007 5:24:32 PM

Kael not sure he likes going up against someone who was able to capture and evade the gathered taurs, "How did this doctor evade you the first time you faced him?"

Gecktar
Thursday September 20th, 2007 3:08:46 AM

Answering Kael : [i]"The question will be well-turned like this : How do we escape the doctor the first time we faced him. In fact, only Brahmah faced him, he was alone at this time. All other were drugged and splitted in teams of two taurs.

Now we know what we are going to face, the surprise will be at our advantage."

Winterglade
Thursday September 20th, 2007 3:37:11 AM

"We didn't actually face him as a group. He poisoned us and had us hunted, and then we had a choice between staying on the island to finish the business, or boarding a ship that we happened upon. Seeing how the sword quest was more urgent we chose to board."

The centaur winces while climbing on the deck. "Brawler, just so that you know, Winterglade has seen enough of the sea to last him a lifetime."

Flat-top
Thursday September 20th, 2007 7:31:57 AM

With a far away look in his eyes, Flat-top tell the party how he got to be caught up in that mess.

"We though we were welcomed, the dear Doctor gave us a banquet. But at last desert course, we were druged. when we were waken, we were in sells. Two to a cell, I was with Zeol, not a match as it turnd out.
We killed our enermies, then zeroed on finding Captain Brahmah, He held his own before we got to him, he almost died. But we got to a passing by ship.

But that's another story, so we now have a undone, unkilled Quest. This time He'll not get us so easerly." Flat-top covers his uper part of his body with his cloach.

Brahmah
Thursday September 20th, 2007 9:02:57 AM

Brahmah looks at the Chosen, then at Mosushi and Kael.
"I snuck past all his guards using an invisibility potion, got into his office and when returned from setting up the hunt, in which we were all to be killed, he went about his business not knowing I was in the room. Finally, I appeared, talked briefly and then we fought. Beat each other to within an inch of our lives and then the luck scum cast darkness and disappeared, I think, into a secret passage I found behind his desk. I didn't follow him because I had no idea what sorts of nasties were in the passage.
I evaded the grounds keepers and then ran into the hunters. I was in no condition to take on an archer and his owlbear. I nearly died and the elven archer robbed me when I was defenseless and unconcious. He took everything he could see and carry. Only my armor and swords were spared. I don't know why. Probably because he couldn't use them I suppose."

"But, I have come to realize, the hunter was just a mercenary and doing it to make a buck. He was probably part of a larger assassin guild.
Its the Doctor who is the true danger. I wonder how many he killed before us and since?"

Kael
Thursday September 20th, 2007 1:07:17 PM

Kael listens to the stories. "And what is your plan for taking this doctor out? Sounds like he's not the kind to meet you at the gates ready to duel. Besides the hunter seems the more appropriate target, since he stole your goods, the doctor took nothing but your pride."

Brahmah
Thursday September 20th, 2007 3:39:15 PM

"Don't you see Kael? If the doctor is willing to go as far as to capture wary and downtrodden taurs looking for help, what else will he be capable of. He is evil. Dark. He, himself, is an abomination to the islands. You see, he is near the Taur Isles and near the places we are charged to protect. Domi has set us a goal of unity, and he divides, quite literally!
He split up the Chosen, and even, if I remember rightly, he even segregated them in the dungeons. He symbolically SPLIT, SUNDERED, the Chosen, the embodiment of Domi in the isles!" He has worked himself up into anger. It seems the ranger has been waiting to say this for awhile.

Brahmah
Thursday September 20th, 2007 3:44:36 PM

"It was not MY pride he took. I have Honor. That, and the Chosen, are all I need."

He fingers the vestiges of whats left of one ear. "See, my pride was taken years ago."

"If we look for the hunter, it will take a long time to find him. We know where the doctor is now, or was recently. It is likely that he has not returned, but he may have left important clues to who the hunters were. I suggest we start there."

Zeoll
Thursday September 20th, 2007 3:56:00 PM

The liontaur echoes Brahmah. "Firrst, he is evil -- he poisoned us and uses Taurrs as animals in his hunt. Second, he is a human in the Taurr Isles, and I will not sufferr such as him to dwell in my homeland. Those are rreasons enough to stop him. But as we said, if we have any hope of rregaining the magic map, we have to find out frrom him about the crreaturres who took it, and wherre we have to go to get it back."

Zeoll seconds the idea of a return to Bridge Isle.

[OOC: Besides needing the R&R, I'd like to take a week or so of downtime in the hope of having a new DM for the game real soon now ... in time to take us back to the Doctor's Isle. So do let's return home for now.]

Kael
Thursday September 20th, 2007 4:37:04 PM

[ooc: so we are going on hiatus for a week IRL?]

Moshushi
Thursday September 20th, 2007 6:42:59 PM

"The doctor should be driveon from our lands. he may not be our greatest threat, but there is no reason to allow him to remain."

OOC. Are we just waiting for Donna?
