Dead Leaves all Around

Dead Leaves all Around
Thursday September 27th, 2007 9:26:42 PM

The group decides against a push to Jarlswolf. Several Mounts would be 'retiring' before the journey would be completed anyway, so why not simply camp. Arminas has no trouble finding a good location for camp over the next hour and soon enough, horses are being brushed down and things set for the night. Florin and Malgant are on the first detail and the minotaur shares the tale of his initiation into the priesthood of Domi. By his tales end, the twilight is all but spent and the second watch is getting prepared. The site is about 40' across, with a few large trees through it and well surrounded by underbrush from the roads direction. Low light vision can see nearly across the entire camp by the starlight above, but without such gifts of heritage one can barely see your hand in front of your face.

The deep night passes and soon enough, and peaceful enough, Davros and Lorth are greeting the warming sun and rousing companions to begin the day. Davros leaves Lorth on his own as preparations get under way of breaking camp. The wizard needs an uninterrupted hour if he is to set the complex spell triggers in his mind.

The group is on its way soon enough though, and before midday is reached. A man driving an Ox pulled cart and heading to Jarlswolf is seen ahead. "The Peddler Mond, blessed to meet you all I'm sure.", is pleasant enough if not a bit more dirty than he might need to be. He remembers the Lance Corporal from the earlier day, but nothing remotely resembling interesting happened. The four merely road by him. Of someone matching Itzal he has not seen though last night he awoke from a terrible dream of a snickering old man and eyes in the woods. Still gives him the shivers to speak about it.

By day's end the group spies Jarlswolf and within 20 minutes of that, they are riding into town. Bistoc's appears to have closed up for the evening and there are few people about. The hour being close to Two pass the evening meal.

Florin Jadenth
Thursday September 27th, 2007 10:38:06 PM

Florin spends his time keeping watch and also listening to Malgant talk of his trial to become a priest of Domi. Florin smiles to his sturdy friend and can't help but comment, "You went through alot to become a priest of Domi my friend. To be honest I had less trouble becoming a paladin of Domi. My teacher and to my knowledge, the only paladin of Domi in the Float was all to willing to train me and pass on his knowledge. My family dropped me off to train at the temple when I was pretty young yet. You see, as a human I was clumsy and broke enough things around the house. My brother become a guard at one of the other noble houses, mainly for my parents to have a spy out there. My sister is a priestess of Flower and she holds a decent position there. I however was not worthy in their eyes for anything so they simply dropped me off at the temple to get rid of me. I was angry at this at first but my teacher taught me to see past that anger and I sunk every bit of my person into becoming a paladin of Domi, to protect those who could not and to guard the word and name of Domi. I do not know what my teacher would think to know I've also become a Undead Hunter also."

When watch is over, Florin calls it a night and gets some sleep. Come morning he spends some time training and praying to his god before summoning Ajax and getting ready to ride off with the others.

In Jarlswolf he looks to the others and can't help but think of Ivy, wondering if she is okay and turning to look to Bralin since he is the leader of the group, "If you do not mind I would like to go see Ivy real quick. Afterwards I can have Ajax move at a faster pace to cetchup with you and the others."

Any

The Return of Anthos

As enter the Inn,you look over in the corner of the common room, a figure cloaked in a travel stained, dark green, hooded cloak attracts your attention. As soon as he sees you enter, he rises and throws back his hood. It is Any! Gesturing to his table, he says,

"My friends, join me, and let's catch up on what has been happening while I was away."

When she is close enough, he sweeps Harvest into an embrace, and holds her for a moment before releasing her, and seating her at the table.

His eyes then take in the half-orc, whom he has not met, but he says nothing.

"The reports of my father's pending demise were grossly overstated. It seems that he had learned of my existence, and with a moment of conscience, decided to contact me. He felt the subterfuge of his approaching death would be enough to insure that I would come, and he was correct in that. The journey was not without meaning though, as I did meet him, and learn more of my lineage."

He fingers an amulet around his neck, as he talks, and then continues.

"He also gave me a talisman of my elven family, and has promised to stay in touch. I am no longer an orphan of the Wold."

Looking at those around the table, he finishes,

"However, I realized over the course of the time that I have been gone, that no matter what I found on this trip, I was not alone in the Wold even without meeting my father. I have family. All of you have been that for me, just as my troupe was before. A man who has friends that he can count on, is never truly alone. Here's to good friends!"

He raises his cup to each in turn, and then seating himself, he says,

"Now tell me what has been happening with Itzal while I have been gone.

Arminas
Thursday September 27th, 2007 11:26:12 PM

Arminas spends the night comfortably in the largest tree, and when morning light filters across the tree tops he steps down and slowly floats to the ground. Calling to Ewan, he joins her on a short hunt. It seems their caution has paid off, and no enemy has found them hidden in the trees.

"Awh, what a wonderful sleep cradled in the forest. Like a babe in arms I always say. We should sleep like this every night!"

Cheerfully, Arminas prepares to travel. Again though, he decides to stay to the trees and have Darkfire follow along with the group on the road. An uneventful journey, the best kind.

At the Inn, the day gets even better. Any is back, and holds Harvest tightly in his arms. Waiting until their reunion is over, he speaks to Desolute.

"Any is one of us, he is what you might call attached to Harvest. You may have to give her a break from your protection now."

Then, when he has turned Harvest free, Arminas grasps his friend.

"I am glad you are back safely. Much has happened since your departure, though in truth the most troubling was when you left it was as though the Swords of Light had lost their heart. We almost broke up. All will be better now, I can feel it."

Desolute
Friday September 28th, 2007 3:35:05 AM

ooc: Actually, you met the same morning you needed to leave. He was quite eloquent in his words, which is different then the reunion, for some reason. Yet, the more relaxed he seems to get, the more civilized he becomes, to almost an entirely different individual.

Desolute smiles at Arminas's words as if they are drival in a child's ear. He reintroduces himself and says, "Well met again!"

Desolute shows signs of happiness, not seen since the party, at Harvest's joy. "Bring me a double of your strongest drink!"

He remains wary of strangers however, if any approach their table, and his attitude will shift, from one of congenial civility, to the rank, desperate individual, the others have seen on the road.

Bi-Polar? Perhaps...

Lorth
Friday September 28th, 2007 7:50:04 AM

Lorth greets Any with handshake, "It is good to see you old friend. I am glad your journeys have returned you to us." He then takes a seat at the table that Any gestures at.

Harvest
Saturday September 29th, 2007 6:30:01 PM

A hot flush of such joy. Time moving from image to image. His arms about her. Hers returning his embrace. His kiss. Her lips, with a hunger all their own.

Harvest Moon breaks away, her face red with the blush of emotion. Then she flings herself at him once again.

"Anthos. I am so pleased that you have returned."

Her tears stain the shoulder of his jacket.

Later, as the group settles for a drink. Harvest introduces the newest addition to the group.

"This is Desolute, Anthos. Desolute, this is Anthos Westar. Desolute has named me as his Chief, Anthos," she says with a quiet seriousness. "It seems a title of tribal loyalty, and I am very honored."

"As to Itzal Jerse," a frown creases the clear skin between her brows, "he has declared his vendetta against us. Twice he attacked us upon the road to Rowena. Davros Sapphiredge might more properly tell you of his magic, but it seemed quite powerful to me. It also appears that Itzal Jerse has a powerful mentor. Davros Sapphiredge has seen him, though he was invisible to the rest of us. He is said to have passed into the ground."

"There may also be a connection between Itzal Jerse and a group of soldiers from a group called the Mailed Fist. Bralin Stoneminder has implied that they are mercenaries, and he has had dealings with them in the past."

"We are on our way to tell Madam Dulcet of the things we discovered at Itzal Jerse's school in Rowena. We fear that the boy may bring harm to someone. We have captured his spellbook and have thought to lure him out with it in the fields around his home."

Inn of Friendly Shadows
Sunday September 30th, 2007 3:05:20 PM

The group is in Jarlswolf and make their way to the Inn of Friendly Shadows where a pleasant surprise awaits in the form on Anthos. Returned from his father's side. He relays the story and reintroduces himself to Desolute. Florin takes his leave and rides hard to see Ivy. The group, harvest mostly, fills Any in on the current state of affairs with Itzal. The quick of it being, it is no mere school boy they are against, but a wizard as powerful if not more so than Davros and Itzal mentor, who is more powerful still. A man they are confident is named or at least called Medonius. A man, they unfortunately know little about. She relays the brief meeting with Lynon, lance corporal of the Mailed Fist. Whose presence could complicate things if Itzal or his family have put the Mailed Fist on their payroll.

The group orders some drinks and is informed for them, the kitchen will put something together. Won't be much, the cook went home, but they can do something. The inn is sparsely filled, perhaps 8 others in three separate groups and everyone has the feeling that the entire place is a bit nervous.

Harvest
Sunday September 30th, 2007 8:21:37 PM

Even through the veil of her joy and contentment it is not difficult to see the unease of those within the inn. It affects all of them, a sure sign that something is amiss.

"Excuse me, please." Harvest slips from her seat. A soft kiss she places upon Anthos' cheek before crossing to the nearest table.

"Peace be with you." She greets those seated there. "I am Harvest Moon. I cannot help but notice that everyone within the inn appears nervous, ill at ease. Please tell me what the cause is of this."

Florin Jadenth
Sunday September 30th, 2007 9:13:22 PM

(OOC:Didn't check my email to see if there was more about Florin or not so I'm just going to post here for now.)

Florin goes to visit Ivy and make sure she is okay. Checking on not only her but her family also. He spends alittle time there as he doesn't want to just off and run so quickly, not to mention he hasn't gotten to see Ivy for awhile.

Once his spending sometime is over and such, Florin will make his way to cetch backup with the group. When Florin gets to see Any again at the Inn, he greets his friend and smiles, "It has been too long my friend. It is nice to have you back with the group again."

DM 2 quick points 1. Ivy lives near by I am assuming2. I meant to put this earlier... Florin only Highlight to display spoiler: { Ivy's house is deserted. The front door destroyed and just inside the door is a deep black pool of dried blood. Far too much for anyone to have survived the wound. The entry is blackened and charred and more blood is splattered about the sitting room to the right in the wreckage of the room. A man is coming quick up behind, calling for Florin. As you whirl, you easily see it is a servant, a stable hand. His head and left arm are bandaged. "Florin my 'lord. I am sorry I did not interecpt you earlier." he says. He then quickly relays the tale of horror as creatures of nightmare stormed through the front doors early this morning. One man was killed, a member of the Mailed Fist he had said. He bought the rest of us time with his life. I do not know what brought him here. But we failed to all get out. Ivy is gone m'lord. In her room we found a letter of expulsion from the Wizard school in Rowena. The family and other servants are at the temple of Alemi. Almost all were hurt, none too severly, thank the gods. I volunteered to stay to tell you or any of your friends if you came in the next few days."}

Sunday September 30th, 2007 10:17:33 PM

Looking about, Arminas decides he does not like the feel of the place. Walking in the woods alongside the road gave him a peaceful feeling. Now, indoors with people who seem nervous makes Arminas nervous also.

In a whisper, he informs Any : "I need some fresh air, I'm going outside and have a look around. I'll be back soon."

Quietly, he gets up and heads outside (uses the kitchen entrance if possible). He circles the Inn, keeping to the shadows. Once he is sure that they are not being watched, he will go back inside.

Lorth

Lorth sits at the table and waits for the simple dinner. Jarlswolf has certainly changed recently he thinks, usually all the people are very friendly and happy to see them. Something must be amiss.

Anthos
Monday October 1st, 2007 8:53:32 AM

"It seems that I have missed much during my little trip. We must continue as we have, and find this Itzal before this goes too much further."

When Harvest rises, and moves to question those in the Inn, He quietly follows, allowing her to ask the questions to which they all want the answers.

Afterwards, he says,

"I am still newly arrived, as are all of you. Let us clean up and refresh ourselves, and then pick up the thread of this again."

Desolute
Monday October 1st, 2007 10:24:04 AM

Desolute is aware of the nervousness of the other patrons. He assumes they are intimidated by the human looking half orc. He does not care what people think and continues his drinking until everyone else is finished.
Smelling himself, he agrees with the bard, "I could use a bath."

Bralin
Monday October 1st, 2007 11:31:02 AM

Bralin usually has trouble picking up the moods of others. But his comrades have made it plain there is a sense of unease.

There has been a change. Change is bad.

As Harvest and Any address the matter in their usual style, the dwarven warrior resolves to keep an eye on them. He adjusts his place so that his back is against a nice, sturdy wall and goes to nursing his ale. Harvest and Any have a guardian, as Bralin watches.

Bralin also nods to Arminas, as the ranger leaves.

Florin Jadenth
Monday October 1st, 2007 3:08:15 PM

Florin looks around the house and his jaw tightens as his heart sinks. When the man comes and gives him the news, Florin is almost ready to erupt as his anger seethes.

He nods to the man and reaches into his belt pouch, handing him a couple gold coins, "I thank you and I hope these will help in paying for your healing sir. I must go now."

Florin moves to Ajax and when he reaches him and out of sight of most people he lets out a yell of anger, this time his anger is having trouble being contained. Florin looks to his sword hand and speaks lowly, "Domi...forgive me but I want to kill now. If he harmed her, if she is so much as bruised..." With this he swings into his saddle and snaps Ajax's reigns lightly, "Come my friend, to meet our friends again."

When Florin arrives at the Inn he walks into the place looking to be in a very dark mood and he moves to his friend's table...taking a deep, shaky breath he speaks up, looking towards Bralin, "Ivy's home was attacked...Ivy is gone and a letter of expulsion from the Wizard school in Rowena was found in her room...I'm not waiting Bralin, if he wishes a fight then he has it." Florin's attitude has drasticlly changed, they messed with his love, with his soon to be family and that is pushing to far.

Florin turns and will make his way to the door inless stopped.

"Anthos, it is good to see you."

"Florin, please wait. We have something of Itzal's. He took something from us. From you. He will want an exchange. The time of his reckoning will come soon. Let us prepare instead of playing Itzal's game."

Death in Jarlswolf
Monday October 1st, 2007 10:33:17 PM

Harvest moves to a table of three fairly young men. Anthos goes with her. One she recognizes of face, but not his name. he specifically seems to avoid her eyes. The other two, have a family resemblence to the first, perhaps visitng thier cousin or some such relation. All appear to be merchants or farmers having a few drinks after a long day. Harvets well trained eye for detail though puts all of them several drinks past where they might normally have stopped.

Arnimas and Bralin get up,seperately to not draw too much attention. The dwarf finding a nice floor to ceiling post to lean against and Arnimas exiting for a skirt about the Inn of Friendly Shadows.

Lorth remains at the table with Desolute Malgant and Devros. All four can pick up on the mood of the crowd.

Arnimas makes a silent and unseen circuit about the Inn. There is nothing amiss in the immediate vicinity, but he does note a bit of commotion, or rather a small crowd thta has seem to have gathered in the entry steps to the small temple to Domi just down the road.

At the other table, the two men look to the other, whom Harvest knows as a familiar face face. The man sits, an ale in both hands about nose level. Staring unseen into the dark mug. The other two look to each other and then to the still standing Harvest and Anthos. One breaks the ackward silence. "Please sit." he gestures to empty chairs. "Forgive my cousin I pray." his voice is low and muted. "It has been a horrible day we hear." With a nod to ther other, "My Brother Riktos and i arrived to see our cousin just before noon. A planned trip for some time." he pauses as if now trying to decide what to say. The man just indicated as Riktos speaks, "There was a foul attack of sorcerey m'lady. A house near the edge of town. There was a death and some considerable damage and..."

The third man, still staring into his ale interrupts, "They took Ivy." he blurts, "Demons of the Shadow Realms. Came from the very Land of Unrest. The sky exploded in fire and they took her." his eyes look up, tears streaming, "Please m'lord and lady. You must believe there was naught we could do. Please." the man collapses into a sobbing wreck, his ale spilling and forgotten.

His cousins each put a hand to his shoulder, "We have heard he was at the house, a wedding is in the planning for this girl. Our cousing knew her well."

Everyone around the bar does not hear much except the final pleas and sobs of the man. [listen DC 15 gets the whole conversation] Many turn to look, but none of the others seem keen on getting up or doing much. Several other eyes can be seen to begin brimming with tears as well.

At Harvest and Anthos' table the cousins have little to add, "There is a meeting at the Domi Temple about it. Heard there was a death and some folks are pretty worried about that fact. Seems it was a soldier of the Mailed Fist."

DM assumes party sits tight until Florin gets back as this is where he is suppose to meet them. Deviate though as you see fit, but if no one stays, no one has Florins information.

Harvest
Monday October 1st, 2007 11:02:35 PM

"Paladin Florin Jadenth! Anthos, he may be in danger." Harvest Moon turns reflexively in the direction in which she knows Ivy's home must lie. Quickly she strides to the entryway of the inn and throws open the door.

"Arminas Calaelen," she calls into the night, "please keep watch for Paladin Florin. If he does not return shortly, we may needs go after him. With all speed and caution."

Malgant  d20+4=21
Monday October 1st, 2007 11:35:51 PM

Malgant finds a sturdy seat as Barlin moves to a defensive sopt , back to the wall. The Minotaur mimics their dinner arrangements and sits opposite the dwarf, with his back to the door. He adjusts his position by watching Bralin, until he is sure that the dwarf can see the parts of the room that he needs to, then he watches the parts of Bralin's back that the wall misses. He can feel the unrest in the room, and he sees that the others can too. He sips his wine, knowing that there is little he can do to fix their feelings, not being an accomplished bard. Harvest and Anthos rise and begin to gauge the crows, and Malgant follows them with his ears(listen 21).

He hears the Tale and thinks to go help Florin, when he realizes he is far too slow to be of any use to the paladin. He thinks to himself 'Be smart Florin. Came back to us and we will ALL go get her back. It has to be Itzal. Conjured demons from the shadow realms pretty well fits Itzals minions.' Harvest finishes talking to the men, and warns Arminas to watch for Florin. Good, they sound like they will sit tight. The Taur stands and looks to Bralin.

" Those men said the Mailed Fist had men at the temple of Domi. I am going over to see what I can find out. We need to know where they stand on this. If they are here in Itzal's employ, then we have more problems than just the mage. If Florin returns before I do then bring him to the temple. My guess is he will be pretty unwound and I think we will need the help of all of us, and maybe the priests there to get him back on the train of thought that will keep Ivy from harm. If I need any help I'll call. I am pretty sure Arminas will know that call if he hears it." Malgant waits a moment to see if Bralin has any reply and then turns and leaves the Inn headed for the Temple of Domi. He makes sure that his sword is loose in the scabbard and that his holy symbol is hanging prominantly on his chest.

Desolute
Tuesday October 2nd, 2007 12:58:32 AM

Mixed emotions of distrust mingle on the mind of the outsider. He nailed it. Like a prophet to their fate. Will his "friends" feel his is against them for his knowledge of evil? The bearer of bad news is usually condemned, from what he is used to, yet none so far question him on his insight. Are they fools for not listening to him? His mind reels against his instincts and his spirit.
He decides to wait and see how the others react, before he himself decides what will happen with him next.

Lorth  d20+1=17

Lorth stands when he hears Ivy's cousin's tale. He walks to stand near Bralin waiting for Florin to return to the inn.

A call from the night, Harvest seems distraught. Then Malgant storms out the door towards the temple. Instinctively, the bow comes into Arminas' hand and an arrow is nocked.

Sitting in the shadows with a good view of the road leading to the Inn of Friendly Shadows, Arminas sits and waits.

please keep watch for Paladin Florin

Bralin
Tuesday October 2nd, 2007 9:49:17 AM

Bralin exhales slowly at Harvest's news. Tis likely she is correct that the house belongs to Ivy. The boy has begun a clan war, and the dwarf knows how those end.

But first, he must keep everyone from scattering all over, as best he may.

"Desolute, Davros, Any - accompany Harvest. Return here with Florin, so we may plan. Lorth, remain here with Arminas. I will accompany Malgant to the temple."

Bralin hustles out after Malgant. He calls out into the woods. "Lorth waits for Florin inside. Keep watch with him. We shall return soon and make plans. 'Ware, the boy's keeper brings battle to us."

The dwarf turns and makes for the temple.

Malgant
Tuesday October 2nd, 2007 4:30:39 PM

Hearing Bralin's quickfiring of action plans Malgant halts at the door to await the dwarf. He hopes that they do not find themselves at odds with the Mailed Fist. Four riders in search of Brigands might have been foolish, on the other hand, if they are a sucessful mercenary company, they could be THAT good.

Florin Jadenth
Tuesday October 2nd, 2007 7:22:46 PM

(Sorry to the group and DM. I believe I jumped ahead to many actions in my previous post.)

Florin after letting out some of his anger in his yell makes his way towards the Inn where his friends are. In route he would probably run in to Harvest and who ever goes with her. He stops Ajax and is in a rather dark mood at the moment. Looking to Harvest he speaks up, "I would say from your rush that you have heard something, maybe the same as what I have found and been told." Florin is at the moment has barely control on his anger and it does show as his sword hand shakes abit since it is clenched in a tight fist, "Boy or not, if he harmed her my sword might well find his heart. If he has one."

Florin looks to the sky a moment before looking back to Harvest and whoever might of came with her, "We should gather the others. I'm not much on waiting right now. We need to do something and we need to do it now. This time we should act first, let us set up a meeting, a exchange, whatever but we lure him and his friends out in a spot we choose, not his own."

Florin will ride back with Harvest and whoever else. Along the way he pats Ajax's neck once and speaks to his horse, "Domi might not be happy with my course friend. I might need your and the others help in this one or I may loose that path."

Any
Tuesday October 2nd, 2007 9:04:44 PM

Hearing the news that those in the Inn have to share, Any follows Bralin's advice, and follows along with Harvest. Before thay have gone far, they meet a stormy Florin coming towards them.

Any's face turns from a curious question, to stony resolve as he listens to what Florin has discovered.

"This boy is truly fallen to the side of evil, unless his 'waterfriend' has at last taken over the reins in their relationship. Either way, we cannot allow this to continue. Good Florin, if he has harmed your lady, I believe that some of the company would join their swords with yours in that particular sheath. But, let us now return to the Inn, plan our attack, and let our minds clear for the task ahead."

He leads with the others to rejoin Bralin and the others at the Inn.

Davros
Tuesday October 2nd, 2007 10:17:30 PM

Davros returns with the others to the Inn. He gathers his thoughts on how to deal with Itzal, and suspects the group will not be as easy on him as they have been with enemies in the past.

Gatherings
Tuesday October 2nd, 2007 11:14:41 PM

The group splits a bit, some heading quickly to the Domi Temple to find what might be happening there, a small group heading towards Ivy's house and the rest waiting for Florins return. Ivy does not live far and if the story they just heard is even partially true, Florin would be making all speed to them. The Domi temple is not far either, a few minutes at the brisk pace set.

Florin pounding steed is heard in the still night air approaching hard and in moments he pulls up to Desolute, Davros, Any and Harvest. About 100 yards from the inn of Friendly shadows. Arminas can easily see them from his deep shadowed location. Lights from houses and a few street lamps more than enough for his elven eyes. He can easily tell Florin is very upset and overhears the jist of what has happened. Not having been in the Inn during the conversation, this is the rangers first hearing of Florin's bride to be's kidnapping. Plans need to be made and in most opinions, an offensive posture assumed. Conversations begin in earnest within the walls of the Inn.

Bralin and Malgant quickly make the foyer to the Domi temple. A small group of perhaps 10 men, half of the armed and wearing light armor stop talking at the two approach. One man disengages from the others and moves quickly towards them. A holy symbol to Domi bouncing from a chain about his neck. It is Brother Lyle, one of the caretakers to the small shrine like temple. "Brothers!" he exclaims, "Thank Domi." Moving up a few steps behind is a well built man in his thirties, the Wolf Regiment emblem of the Mailed Fist on his breastplate and the colors of a sergant upon his shoulder. He is bloodied from a few cuts to his face, a greatsword within a bac hanger scabbard. He stops and the anger rolling from his eyes is nearly tangible.

Brother Lyle turns partially and introduces Master Sergant Hammer of Wolf regiment in the Mailed Fist. The man nods curtly and then speaks, "The cleric here has been telling me that representatives of the Pitchfork council would be here and I needed to wait. Your timing is very good, as I am about done doing that. It would appear Dulcet has picked a very inconvenient time to not be here." He plants his feet shoulder width apart and folds his arms arcoss his chest. "So what do plan to do?" The rest of the small crowd wait in anticipation and Bralin and Malgant see only one other Mailed Fist man. The others seem to be town militia type. Too young, too old and all too green to even have contemplated on going after a powerful wizard upon hearing the reports of the survivors.

Malgant
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 6:27:31 AM

Seing the militia, Malgant's heart freezes in his chest. Not again, he and his companions can see this to its conclusion. Looking to the sething Sergent in front of him, Malgant is unsure why this man is here at all. Are these the protectors sent to watch over Ivy's family?not being sure he asks. " Sergent Hammer, my name is Malgant, and This is Bralin, of the Swords of Light. I would like to know a few things before we tell you 'what we are planning'. We had a tense meeting with a lance corporal of the Mailed Fist on our way here and it was not made clear who they were working for in this area. Would you be able to explain that? From what I hear and what I am lead to believe you are the protectors sent to watch over Ivy's family. Is that the case?" Malgant waits for the seregent's reply. He looks to the militia again and instead of the young men he saw before they all appear as young minotaurs to him. He knows why and he steels himself to remain calm. When he blinks they are as they were before. Young, green, but willing to do what they must to protect their community, their home.

Lorth
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 7:27:40 AM

Lorth follows along with Bralin and Malgant, not willing to stay in the inn by himself. He stands behind his friends listening to the conversation, waiting to see if he can add something to it, but the opportunity never arises, so he stands in silence.

Bralin
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 10:23:05 AM

Bralin nods a greeting to the Sargeant as Malgant introduces him. The Mailed Fist is all business, and the dwarf joins him in that posture.

He turns to the cleric, "Where is Dulcet, and when will she return?"

Then addresses the gathered crowd, "You would be wise to return to your homes and see to your familes. This foe is beyond you."

Then returns to the sargeant. Bralin thrusts his chin quickly upward, indicating the cuts on the man's face. "What did you encounter? And how many man have ye on hand?" The warrior's eyes flick quickly the the gathered townsfolk as he answers the Fist's actual question.
"Our group makes plans at the inn, sargeant. Please attend."

"Good priest, please relay to the townsfolk they will be safest indoors while we and the Fist pursue the foe."

Bralin turns and heads back for the inn. Once there, he commandeers a private room and throws out everyone but the Swords, the sargeant, and any other Mailed Fist member. In other words, the professionals can stay, the amateurs get locked out.

Seeing the strain on Florin, Bralin cuts to the chase.
"Medonius be our true foe, and only Itzal Jerze knows where he is. The boy must be taken, ALIVE, so that we may question him and locate Medonius and Ivy."
ooc - Medonius? Melonius? I forget - y'all know who he's talking about.

Harvest
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 10:53:46 AM

It is difficult to know which is worse, Florin Jadenth's description of the scene of battle, or the look within the elfish paladin's eyes.

"We must find them quickly," Harvest Moon says on the sort walk back to the Inn of Friendly Shadows, "but we do not know where they might be. They have appeared at different places along the road from here to Rowena. They might be anywhere."

"Arminas Calaelen, do you think that you might be able to find the tracks left by Ivy's abductors? If they can translocate this may be difficult. If they can fly, it may be impossible. But it is a place to begin. I do not think that they can take an unwilling person very far."

"If they have not left a trail that we may follow, I think that the only person who might know Itzal Jerse's habits and the places that he might go to ground might be his mother."

Desolute remains quiet through all of this, yet he wonders how the mailed fist is involved.

Arminas
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 11:41:45 AM

Something horrible has happened, and from the look of Florin it must involve Ivy.

Arminas steps from the shadows to make his way to the gathering, when Bralin starts to head back to the Inn. Stopping in his tracks, he waits until they join him near the entrance. A glance at Florin is enough, no words are needed.

Arminas follows Bralin into the Inn, ready to help however he can.

In answer to Harvest, Arminas says:
"I will look for tracks, struggling people leave a clear trail. If they used the magics that Davros has mentioned to transport, they didn't move too far. I can circle the area looking for tracks if they can't be found near Ivy's home. I will also ask the animals in the area if they have seen anything. Perhaps there is a dog or pig I can ask to seek Ivy's scent."

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 2:29:52 PM

Florin looks to Bralin when he speaks and smiles a almost cold smile as he has his plans made, "Friend Bralin, I have ideas on how to get the young...man..in the open or at a place we pick. I will do my best to stay my hand, that is my only promise and I believe anywhere he travels, his friend travels."

Florin leans back in a chair and speaks his mind now, "I plan to go confront his mother. I will give her the facts of the situation, her son can and will be proven to be messing in the dark arts. That he has knowingly committed evil acts. An for her own part I believe she knew of some of what he does and that she in that sense has willingly helped him and each crime even knows not done by her hand is however on her shoulders too. I want him to know how far he is making his family sink, what he will reduce them too if he continues. I don't think he will risk his precious standing, his families precious standing. He is a ego man, I will make sure it is known how little fame or anything he will gain for killing innocents when "we" a true test to his might stand ready. His mother might give him up also, knowing how much they risk and also when she knows that this may be her only way of keeping her son alive."

Florin closes his eyes and thinks over everything...he even now wears the ribbon he received from Ivy.

Accounts
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 4:37:18 PM

The Temple: The Sargeant nods at each name and repeats it as he does so. "I see no harm. Lord Adrik Jerse put a contract for a small troop to this area. Our LC was assigned as he knew the area. We arrived a few days ago. Far as a tense meeting with my LC? No I could not explain that. As far as the attack at the house. Just happened to be nearby. Heard a loud burning explosion and myself, First Class Demer and Private Ishg moved in. Private died, I have a problem now as the commander on location. Looking for the authorities I find them not here and told to stand about with my thumb in my ear to wait for you."

As Bralin calls for the crowd to disperse, they do with Brother Lyle taking the lead to assist them understand why they need to. The Sargeant moves with and motions for the other man to follow. Apparently they are the only two.

At the Inn the Sargeant of the Mailed Fist gives his account
"Saw 4 critters in all. 2 flanking the door looked like great black Dane dogs, Dogs hell, more like horses. Thier eyes glowed and a green mist rolled from thier fur and the breathed fire. They stood like guards, one of them had a guy. I gave the go and the 3 of us closed. We heard commotion inside so lured them away to free up the main door, I then sent Private Ishg around and in to get the people out. He died seconds later. Never saw what happened. I put down the last dog as several people broke from the house through windows, a couple took a leap out the second story. Coming out the main door was a thing. Sorry about the best I can do. It," The Sargeant clearly does not know really how to describe was he saw. "There were tentacles, teeth, it was a big mess of moving goo really. Put a few arrows into it without visible affect and essentially just stayed out of its way. Maybe 12 seconds later I caught sight of a humanoid creature with wings up and behind the houe. Was carrying something and pretty far from me when I spotted it. Probably went out the back and flew out. I didn't see it until it was higher than the house. Anyway, went in, found what was left of Ishg, just sort of a puddle really, equipment and all. Made a sweep, found some folks pretty messed up outside a room where it looks like they tried to hold something off. Confirmed after it was a girl's, named Ivy and she was what the flying thing was carrying. Last I saw, it was heading Northeast, towards Wolf Hill."

other answers: Brother Lyle has no idea where Dulcet is. That has been THE question of the day. The brother is quite worried.

Malgant nods at the Sergeant's explanations. He is Glad when Bralin starts taking charge. The dwarf is sure in his actions and is all business. As they approach the Inn Malgant gets his first look at Florin. The paladin is angry, afraid and ready for blood, all bad signs. But he came back and didn't rush off to get himself killed. Things are going to work out. As Bralin clears the Inn, Malgant approaches the innkeeper and asks for one of the scullery maid to run a fast errand for him. He asks for a basin, metal is prefered, but ceramic will work, a little larger than the spellbook taken from Itzal's room at the school and a grate that will fit over the basin. He also asks for several pints of lamp oil, in a skin if possible. He hands the maid what should be enough gold to purchase the items twice over and asks her to hurry back with them as soon as possible. Once the room is secured for the Fist and the Swords, Malgant examines the two Fist soldiers for wounds and heals them if he can. Once the others have had their say, Malgant puts forth the plan he has been chewing on, to see if it is along the lines of what the others have in mind.

" In order to get the boy out of hiding we need to offer him something he wants, namely, the book. Lure him out into the open with Ivy in exchange for the book and we get her back. I generally don't like deception, but I don't think that there is any one of us in this room that wants Itzal to have that book back in actuality, so when he steps forth to claim it we capture him. If he brings Medonious and the gaggle of Demons that Sgt. Hammer described with him we will need to deal with them as well. I think we can handle all of that, save maybe Medonious, he is a complete unknown. I arranged for a few things to be gathered so that we might be sure that the book does not fall into Itzal's hands. If anyone has anything they can add to this, or holes in it they see that I missed please say so. I tried to think of things that could go wrong and compensate, but I may have missed some things."

The plan out, Malgant sighs and feels like he has purged a great weight. Turning Florin's words over in his head he walks over to the paladin and stands him to his feet. He looks deeply into Florin's eyes and asks him a few simple questions and then answers them for Florin.

" Who did Ivy fall in love with Florin? Was it a kind paladin of Domi who would look for a way to avoid harming others if it was there? A strong defender of the weak who would stand between the helpless and death and laugh? Or did she fall in love with a paladin avenging angel who would be ruled by a desire to inflict pain on a young boy just because the boy has hurt someone the paladin loved. From what I have seen of her she favored the first one. Be that man. Reign in the desire to hurt Itzal for what he has done. I feel that desire too, I think we all, with the exception of Harvest have that in us. But we will not get Ivy back that way. Look into my eyes and see if I don't speak the truth. We will get her back and I will marry the two of you. Count on it."

"It seems we have the beginnings of a course of action. Perhaps we can track this boy, or failing that, lure him out with the promise of an exchange. I think we need to see what information Arminas' tracking brings us first. We definitely need to make this encounter on our terms not his. We need to prepare spells and weapons to that end.

We should probably try to move this outside of town. Does anyone know of a likely spot close by? Also, what is the possibility of Mistress Dulcet also being a prisoner?"

Any listens as the others plan and respond.

Harvest  d20+14=28

Listen and watch. Harvest Moon, the funny young girl with the odd crest of hair, sits in a corner while the men describe the battle. (Sense Motive 28)

"You are soldiers, are you not?" she asks when they finish. "We met four men of the Mailed Fist upon the road to Rowena. They were led by a Lance Corporal Lynon of the Wolf Regiment. He was wary and spoke of bandits. We passed them and they rode in the direction of Rowena. They seemed good men, and your actions today show that you are as well. I will pray for your fallen comrade, Private Ishg."

"But I have never seen you or your men in this area. I would know what brings you here. We may ask for your assistance in this thing, and doing so, we must know the extent that you will be able to commit yourself."

"Already, I think that there is a problem." Harvest slips from her seat and approaches the table. "The Jerse home is south of town. By your account," she turns to the teller of the tale, "the thing that took Ivy flew to the Northeast." From her haversack, Harvest takes out her book of maps and opens to the page containing the Local Area.

"Please, could you point out the area in which you saw the flying creature take Ivy?" she asks.

"You see, we believe that we know who arranged the attack. One is a boy from this area. His name is Itzal Jerse. He has arranged such terrible things, in some part, to torment and to punish us. The other is a man who flies and is invisible. We have heard that his name is Medonius."

"This elf, Paladin Florin Jadenth, is the betrothed of Ivy. He has told us that a letter of expulsion was found at Ivy's home, the same home at which you fought those creatures." Havest turns her head to Desolute and nods. "The letter was addressed to Itzal Jerse."

Arminas
Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 9:24:49 PM

Arminas frowns at the information that a winged creature took Ivy away.

"I cannot track through the air, unless followers of the creature moved along the ground the trail is lost. I will though speak with the birds along the way. The passage of a flying humanoid, probably from the abyss would not go unnoticed amoung the forest creatures."

Arminas listens to the plan of luring Itzal with the spell book.

Turning to Desolute, he asks:

"Tell me, what do you suppose someone this evil would do? Would desire of his possession overcome him, or would he wait knowing that Florin would risk all to rescue Ivy? I think he will draw us to him, unless we are willing to wait while Ivy is tormented."

Lorth
Thursday October 4th, 2007 7:40:11 AM

Lorth listens to everyone ramble back and forth. He is curious to know what contract, Lord Adrik Jerse could of hired the mailed fist for also.
"Sergeant, please tell us what Lord Adrik Jerse hired your troop to do? I've never heard of the man.", Lorth waits for his answer...

Desolute
Thursday October 4th, 2007 10:51:08 AM

Desolute returns Arminas's eye contact with an answer. "He will want her to suffer, even though we have something of his, she has slighted him in the past and he wants to feel better about himself. At this point, Medonius is likely the one keeping her alive.
All of this is under the assumption he wants the book back. If he does not want it or need it, he will likely sacrifice her to the demons he is conjuring, to achive even more power."

These words are not said to hurt someones feelings. To Desolute, they are just a fact, as is everything else he has said.

Florin Jadenth
Thursday October 4th, 2007 3:10:19 PM

Florin looks to Malgant when he taur handles him so to speak and his eyes lock on the taur's for moments before speaking, "My dear friend, I respect you and everyone in this group. I think that goes without saying. I would not hurt the boy inless it comes to that, that is my word. But if he is so set on killing us and won't answer for his crimes like he should. Then I will have no problem bringing justice onto him. This I promise you, I will not kill him in cold blood but if he leaves us no choice then I will kill him. I would walk Gargul's realm for eternity to save Ivy, you can bank on that."

Florin looks to the group and speaks to Bralin, "Someone should visit the Jerse home no matter and get what info can be gotten there. We seen his mother's actions and I do not think she will give up much inless she sees the serious trouble and risk that is involved with aiding her son. I don't want guesses on Ivy's location and from what I seen of flying creatures they can easily change direction and it already has a head start on us. If possible I want a straight shot to our target and the longer we wait the more that can happen to Ivy or anyone else, specially if the child has gotten his hands on Dulcet too like some fear. I know I'm not leader and have no place to give orders but atleast let me and one of our better talkers go see the Jerse home. I'll give my word to shutup and let the other do the talking, I just need to be doing something right now."

Bralin  d20+7=25
Thursday October 4th, 2007 3:51:44 PM

Bralin listens. There are many opinions and histories here, and the dwarf understands he needs to sort through them quickly. As the talking runs its course, he does his best to sum up.

"Lord Adrik Jerze hired the Mailed Fist to patrol this area shortly after we disrupted the party at the Jerze home. I will assume Lord Jerze is the father, and further assume his wife pressured him into this course in response to our actions.

"This puts the Mailed Fist in position to be dispatched by Itzal, likely to remove defenders from the area."

"This also means the sargeant is trusted by the Jerze parents, whereas we are not."

"Wolf Hill may be key. Tis unlikely the boy encountered Medonious either in his home, or in a well-warded school. Tis more than likely that he finds himself alone often, for his peers dislike him. Mayhap he explored the Hill and discovered Medonius."

"That both Ivy and Dulcet are missing speaks to the growing power of the pair. Does anyone recognize the beasts encounted by the sargeant?"
[Knowledge Religion - 25]

The dwarf pauses.
"Sargeant, I would you and your man accompany Florin to the Jerze home. Ye must relay what you've seen, that goodfolk are missing, and our assertion the their boy is controlled by an evil power that must be stopped. Mayhap they hold information valuable to our cause. Florin, Malgant, Davros, and Lorth will accompany you. Malgant's plan may also be enacted via message to his parents, for I doubt the boy will be present.

Arminas, Harvest, Any, Desolute, and myself will trek to Wolf Hill to determine if we may quickly discover clues. We will endeavor not to become engaged, and will return here or send word via the hawk."

Arminas - 2nd post

Arminas nods in agreement with Bralin, but he stiffens at his last words.

"Ewan is a Golden Eagle, not a hawk."

Malgant
Thursday October 4th, 2007 4:58:27 PM

Malgant's eyes brighten visibly and a broad smile crosses his face as Florin responds to his words. " THAT is the Florin that I hoped still dwelt in your breast. Your plan is sound Bralin. The best place for the book I would say would be with you. What I had in mind was a fast way to destroy the book should it come to that. I asked the innkeeper to send one of his maids for the supplies you need. A quick arrow from Arminas' enchanted bow should set the whole thing alight and hopefully destroy the book, plus I think we have a fair to good chance of encountering Itzal at the house. Should we find him what would you have us do?" Turning to Sgt. Hammer Malgant asks " Sergeant, would Itzal be able to dismiss your squad from their contract and what would happen if he or his family ended up ordering you against us? I.... I just want to know how your contract would bind you. I am not interested in having you break it, but in the two meetings I have now had with members of the Mailed Fist I have found both leaders to be bound more by what was good and right than the letter of their contract. I hope you understand what I mean, I am not trying to offer insult."

Two if by Land
Thursday October 4th, 2007 6:10:46 PM

The Sargeant furrows his brow and bites his lip for a moment, as first Davros and then Harvest ask him why he and the other Mailed Fist are in the area. "As I told Bralin and Malgant. The Unit I am attached to was ordered here and I'm just a Sargeant, so I don't need to know all the whys thank the gods. Fraid I don't have anything to add beyond what I saw at the house."

Malgant lays out his plan as he hands a maid money to purchase a few things for him. She smiles breifly, "Begging you pardon, but everything is closed as far as store supplies like this go." The Inn keep though comes over, "I can give you all but a grate covering." he hands the gold back to Malgant and sends the woman to the cellar. She returns shrotly with a deep metal bowl and three pints of lamp oil.

Madam Dulcet's disappaerance is thought on and judged no happy coincidence. Bralin lays out a two progned plan. Florin, Malgant, Davros, and Lorth along with Sergeant Hammer and First Class Demer would head to Itzal's parents house. The rest of them would head to Wolf Hill to see what they could see. Hammer nods to Bralin's idea, but adds a change. "Demer stays here. If Lynon sends word back, one of us needs to be here to recieve it." He shoots a nod to the younger man who snaps his boots together and leaves.

Florin puts Malgants mind at ease and the group prepares to move out. The Jerse Manor lies an hour ride to the south. It will be well after the hour of 10 before anyone can get there. Both of the Paladins steeds do not have that long on this plane. Those heading to the top of Wolf Hill will be in for a shorter journey, but harder up the rough terrain.

Hammer seems to consider Malgant's words for a moment. "To be blunt, Yes Lord Jerse holds the contract for my unit and could dismiss it at anytime. But one of my men is dead and I will find out what or who is resonsible for it. As for standing against you? That too is a bit tricky in my line of thinking. The Folks here in Jarlswolf seem to think you are on the side of the law and have authority to wield it. So I supose before I answer that I have to ask. Do you? Cause right now your sounding as if you don't. I don't mean to insult any here either, but I think I should have asked this earlier."

"I still do not completely understand what is the law, Master Sergeant Hammerand, and who decides what is and is not lawful. But I know that I wish to follow the law and what is lawful."

"Here. Allow me to show you something." After a moment of thought, Harvest Moon draws the letter of authority from her haversack. "This was given to us by Madam Dulcet who leads the Pitchfork Council. It authorizes us to investigate Itzal Jerse. It is addressed to the school of magic in Rowena at which Itzal Jerse had studied."

"Madam Dulcet has called upon us a number of times to do the will of the Council. Whether this makes us agents of the law ... " Harvest Moon shrugs. "I think that is for others to decide."

Listening to Bralin, it seems that he has come up with a solid plan. All except for one thing.

"They will hear us coming. We are too many and you are too loud." He looks to Bralin as he says this. "If we seek to engage them your plan is sound."

He pauses, and seems to take a moment to collect himself.

"I can go alone. They will not hear or see me as I move through the forest. I will use the spell to pass without a trace. When I think I am close, I will use another to step from one tree to another. I can even take the shape of a tree to observe. They will not find me. Together we will be found."

Arminas looks to Bralin.

"Your decision."

Lorth then starts to get his gear ready for his imminent departure.

Bralin files away Ewan's correct species identification, but doesn't respond.

He nods once when Hammer says Demer will stay, having no objection.

In fact, the only emotion the dwarf shows during the conference is the pained look the crosses his face when Harvest resurrects her philosophical 'What is Law?' dilemma. He doesn't bother to answer, hoping that the letter from Dulcet is enough to satisfy the sargeant.

Arminas raises the noise question, causing Bralin to chuckle.
"Aye, I am not quiet. My intent is to split our group as well, you and mayhap Desolute and Harvest searching forward while Any and I trail at some distance. I will be in position to provide support, and will also serve as a distraction should our foes be wary. They will spot me, but I will be at a distance. Malgant nods to The Sergeant and answers the man's return question. " I have ben with the Swords of Light only a few weeks. When I met them they had been charged by the Pitchfork council to defens a fledgling village and had done so, capturing rather than killing most of the raiders that threatened the village. They chose to allow the village to exercise it's new legal system and try the raiders and set their punishment. Furthermore we have been asked and been given Harvest's writ to investigate some strange goings on With Itzal Jerse and emanations of evil at his home during the party we were invited to. Are we on the side of the Law. Most certainly. Do we have the authority to Wield it. A more difficult question to answer, but I will tell you where I stand at least. I will do what is good for Jarlswolf and the people who live here. I have been given the approval to do so by Madame Dulcet. When she returns she and the council will jusge wether or not I have acted within the law, and if I am found wanting I will surrender to their judgement without hesitation. Now back to what I was doing before, You appear to have been rather soundly chewed upon by those Hounds you mentioned. Most of the Prayers Domi has granted me today are for the purpose of subduing Itzal Jerse, but I can spare some to heal you. Will you allow me?"
If and when the healing is done Malgant turns to Bralin. "I am ready to go, are we settled on our course of action?"

Florin Jadenth
Friday October 5th, 2007 10:41:06 PM

Florin chews his lip and mentally keeps repeating something in his mind "keep your head, keep your head."

After a moment Florin sighs and looks to Bralin, "I'm sorry Bralin, I'm not thinking right. We should move as one, if it's possible that either group runs into problems then we can't afford to be at part stregnth. Not if Itzal has grown stronger and can bring up such terrible creatures."

Florin looks towards Arminas and speaks to him, "If we all go with you, can you possibly talk a animal friend to go ahead abit and keep check for us? I don't want to place a animal in danger but we should be ready for anything if it comes. It is a shorter move to the Jerse's house. Surely a flying friend could get there and to us to tell us if it sees anything strange. Not to mention Hammer there should go there and see whats up himself."

Florin takes the Domi symbol thats on a necklace under his armor and tunic and squeezes it before looking to Bralin, "Would this be a more sound plan? I want to save Ivy....however..the group here, the ones I call friends and my second family. I don't want to see any of you hurt either and we are most effective together as one." Florin is clearly torn here, he wants to save Ivy but he doesn't want his friends harmed from splitting the group up and smiles some, "Anyway, Ivy wouldn't be happy if any of you got hurt either due to my choice of splitting the group or advice of it."

9pm Jarlswolf
Sunday October 7th, 2007 11:04:17 PM

Malgant offers and Sgt Hammer accepts the healing. "You are gracious to offer healing and I thank you." Harvest produces the writ and the Sgt. takes it in hand and scans the document. Harvet's words have the man a bit confused, but he seems to opt for not pursuing that discussion with the simple statement, "I am a soldier. My commander assumes the legal and moral authority of law. I have the luxury of obeying those orders and not needing to look beyond them."

Florin adds a wrinkle to the plan of splitting the group. Itzal has shown the power to challenge nearly the entire group and the paladin worries for the afety of all if they were to split as Bralin suggests. The dwarf also gives a quick rendition of the events as to why the Mailed Fist is now in the area, but here too a wrinkle appears. Lorth has met itzal's father and his name is not Adrik, but Rodle. Adrik may be a new player, perhaps an uncle to Itzal. His exact status and regional influence not known exactly. His ability to commision a unit from the Mailed Fist and his surname tie to the Jerse family would make him an influential man. Sgt. Hammer can add no information, Lynon would be the person if any, tied to Wolf Regiment who could shed light on Adrik Jerse. The Sgt makes it clear that Lynon may know nothing more than he on this though.

DM would like a party clarification.
Both paladins mounts have only 1 hour left before being forced to leave. The Jerse house is 1 hour from Jarlswolf down the southern road.

Is the group splitting? If so how is the journey up Wolf Hill occurring? Distance between front folks and back folks and such. Also the journey up Wolf Hill is about an hour of fairly steep terrain. Ground cover and trees are plentiful for most of the journey. The 'top' of the hill spans a couple hundred acres of land

"I believe that Paladin Florin Jadenth has the right of this." Harvest Moon strips off her haversack, holding it, rather, in one hand, dangling from the straps.

"We can easily investigate Wolf Hill tonight, Bralin Stoneminder. If neither Ivy nor Itzal Jerse and this Mendonius are to be found, then we may make our way to the Jerse house in the light of day."

"However, should we encounter a situation in which we feel that we must, for fear for her life, rescue Ivy then and there, we will be less able to do so with only half of our assembled company."

"I will go to change my clothing now." Harvest is gone but a short time. When she returns, she is dressed in her old worn and dirty rough shift belted only with a piece of rope. "I am ready."

Bralin
Monday October 8th, 2007 9:49:40 AM

Bralin fingers the obsidian stone at the end of the right fork of his beard. Mayhap, one day, he will understand why his comrades insist on his providing a direction when they so rarely accept it.

"Very well, we shall recon in force," he replies. "Arminas should lead. Lorth, Florin, Malgant, Any, Davros and I should trail by several hundred feet. Harvest and Desolute,"

Bralin pauses - tis pointless.

"please place yourselves as ye deem best."

Turing to Hammer, he asks, "Do ye wish to accompany us, or remain?" There are valid reasons for either course, and he accepts the man's choice with a nod.

The dwarf considers Lorth's observation.
"Mayhap the innkeeper knows of Lord Adrik Jerze," he opines.

Arminas cannot help but smile at Bralin.

"Well now, for a leader you seem to have a lack of followers. I liked your plan. Now instead of four noise makers I have eight. I would have preferred to go alone, stealth to find information. Instead it looks like we go to battle, on their terms and territory."

Arminas pulls a couple of scrolls from his haversack, and tucks them into a pouch. Two more he takes out and casts upon himself.

"Very well, I will go ahead. Ewan will wait here, she does not fly well at night. You follow the path up the hill. I will go through the thickest brambles. If you are set upon, do you want me to come to your aid or to go look for Ivy while you distract the enemy?"

The half orc is unaware of the turmoil the dwarf suffers from. It is curious that people do not listen to their supposed leader. Where he comes from, disobidience means only death and if one is lucky a fast death.
Then Arminas says something strange, "You would rather have the enemy in your own home to fight? That does not make sence. Your non combatants would be in danger as well as the enemy being aware of your building placements. Give me a fight on their ground any day."

He follows Harvest as she travels.

Malgant  d20+5=10 d20+4=16
Monday October 8th, 2007 4:58:38 PM

having been tricked before he was exiled, Malgant now looks at everything a little differently. " Maybe Medonius is only invisible when it suits him. And maybe being visible to hire a group of the Mailed Fist suited him on the day they were hired. Just a thought." Malgant looks to Bralin and nods his readiness. To the Sergeant he states the simple reasons he would offer healing. " We are probably going to encounter trouble tonight. I would rather have you standing and fighting alongside us when that happens rather than crumpled on the ground in need of emergency healing. I would heal you more, but if we do face Itzal this night I would much rather try and give you an edge against his spells than have you a small amount healthier."

To the group he makes another statement. I believe we are all capable of warding ourselves against evil, those who cannot do so themselves can be warded by others in the group. From my teachings I was taught that summoned creaturs, such as those Itzal calls forth can not attack someone thus warded. they can threaten and they can cast spells but they are unable to make direct physical contact unless the warded person strikes first. We can use this to our advantage by going straight for the mage and ignoring the summoned minions."

Wolf Hill
Monday October 8th, 2007 8:26:23 PM

The plan is altered. The group will make thier way to the top of Wolf Hill. Bralin looks to the Sgt and Hammer nods. "On your order then sir." He seems to have all the gear he plans to take. it is quickly decided an a couple spells later, Arminas takes point by a few hunderd feet putting him at 250'

The party moves through the wood on the outskirts of Jarlswolf and those without darkvision or low light vision quickly find they can see very little and must slow their pace. The party behind Arminas can not be heard by the ranger without straining incredibly hard while remaining immobile hiself. And he knows what to listen for.

It's been abuot a 3/4 of an hour. Arminas Listen check please.

Back at the group Sgt hammer takes a postion next to Bralin and the dwarf can tell that the Sgt, though human, is having no trouble at all moving and seeing in the dark.

Florin speaks quickly to Bralin, feeling abit bad for changing the dwarf's plans, "I'm sorry for going back on your plans Bralin. I just thought it would be best if we search the hill first and we go together just incase."

Florin leaves it as that and moves with his friends, staying towards the front of the group just incase any light is pulled out, he being a elf needs little light to move about okay. He also keeps a eye out for signs as he has some skill in tracking himself.

(OOC: DM, Lorth would of dismissed Tobiasz when they reached the inn, as I figured (wrongly) that we would be staying the night. So Lorth won't have his mount to use till after midnight)

Lorth tails along behind the party as instructed. He keeps his shield strapped to his arm, sword ready to be drawn in a moment. He notes the familiar path towards wolf hill as he has been here before, however for a very different purpose.

Bralin
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 9:20:44 AM

Bralin merely shrugs at Florin's apology. He is somewhat surprised the group did not stop for more debate at Davros' objection to this plan. Mayhap he should be more assertive. He grins to himself. Half the company already feels he is too assertive already. A strange group....

Bralin climbs the hill, and notes Hammer possesses some form of darkvision. He does not suggest using any light, but does stop to assist any of his comrades having difficulties navigating the terrain.

The brush that crowds the hillside conceals the approach. But it also conceals the other Swords of Light from her sight.

From her haversack, the brown girl removes a wand. Speaking the trigger word she points at Desolute.

"Desolute, do you hear me?" Through the magic of the Message spell she whispers to the half-orc despite the intervening distance. "Can you make out Arminas Calaelen up ahead or the others behind?"

"I can see nothing, but we must forge ahead. I will pause to use some magic, then we will continue."

Another wand and the blessing of Alemi, and Harvest continues on.

Forefront  d20+5=10
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 9:56:18 PM

Arminas moves along, there is no trail, only a destination. A slight breeze stirs the leaves on the brush and through the upper tree tops. In all a very peaceful and quiet night. On any other night it would be very beautiful, but somewhere up ahead the elf could feel an evil presence waiting, festering within the land.

The Main group, Harvest activates a wand and links herself with Deoslute. they could now clearly communicate through the softest of whispers. Desolute can see the others, up just to his left and a few yards in front of him. Sgt Hammer is picking his way up the slope in a somewhat muffled approach as far as the noise he generates. To the Sgt's immediate right is Bralin and to his left is Malgant. Florin is just in front of them, Davros just behind and at the party's rear is Lorth. In all the group is spread over maybe 40' with Davros marking the near center. Besides thier own passage, no noise or trail is heard or seen.

Arminas, it seems to come as a soft call from the trees over the final rise. The ranger knows that sounds carries well in the still of a night such as this and the source of the sound is likely another 100' at least beyond the crest. He knows the sound does not belong to the natural world he knows so well, but to the exact creator or cause, he can not be certain. Only that the noise continues at a steady, now nearing rythmic like cadence.

Bralin continues climbing, the 'clink' of his armor and occassional 'crunch' as he inadvertantly breaks a twig ring loudly in his ears. The dwarf doesn't worry overmuch about his approach, however, as there isn't anything he can do about it.

What he can do is ensure his blinded companions do not lose their way. Bralin keeps an eye on Florin, Lorth, Malgant, and Davros, making sure they remain in a grouping with himself and Hammer.

Malgant  d20+5=11 d20+4=16
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 7:40:57 PM

Malgant trudges up the hill. His armor and hooves no quieter than Bralin's kit. At least since the majority of the others were wearing a good amount of gear he had a good idea where they were. He knew that the moment he unsheathed his greatsword the area would be lit as well as if he carried a lantern, so he left it sheathed on his back. What he did do however was to pull one of the javelins he had purchased in Jarlwolf free of the quiver and think about how best to accomplish what he wanted to do. His aim was to enspell the javelin with silence and either hit Itzal with it or get it to land near enough to the mage to disrupt his spells. That was one plan. Another that he hoped would work was using the prayer of dispeling that Domi had granted him this morning to counter Itzal's escape spell, he knew timing that would be tricky though. What he prayed for most fervently as he climbed the hill though was that Ivy was safe. If she wasn't there was a real chance that Florin might snap and become a unknown entity in the coming fight. That would be...bad. Having faced Itzal twice now Malgant knew that the key to beating him was to hamper his escape. The mage relied too heavily on his summoned minions. He would strike from surprise and then quickly escape to a safe distance. Stopping that escape was even more important than stopping the minions. The protection from evil wards would defend them from the minions. Knowing that it may still be awhile before they encountered the boy, Malgant still knew that one of his defensive spells would last for several hours. Quietly he spoke the prayer to Domi granting his armor a bit more protection.
