Xenia, standing next to Wynn, is ready.

Lang is ready. He orders Sunshine to wait -- that way at least one of the party will survive!

Wynn is ready, too, standing with Xenia.

Syr has a decision to make -- brave the Forbidance or give up his tasty troll form.

Bin is ready too.

Is Belkior? We can take his silence for agreement?

The halfling cleric stands close to Angus, carefully positioning himself with respect to the sorcerer. Once he is close, Belkior waits for Angus to touch him and then closes his eyes. Belkior breathes steadily, trying not to think of the nausea that occurs everytime he is teleported.

Once he is translocated, Belkior opens and closes his mouth in the hope that this will ease the nausea. He has a job to do, though, so Belkior tries to move towards the alcove with the mirrors. Once he figures that he is close enough, Belkior intones the words and makes the gestures that will call a cloud of mist up around himself.

"It's done Angus," the halfling calls out. "Should be safe to come down here." Belkior peeks out, hoping that he doesn't see a reflection of himself step out of a mirror.

Angus dimension doors with Lang, Syr and Bin back to the spot in the cave that he just left.

Belkior creep-creep-creeps up. Just before the deadly mirrors come into view, brave Belkior casts his mist. And it works! At least, with a visibility of just five feet, you do not see the mirrors -- and presumably you take care not to get close to where you think they are!

Syr, having assumed his own true form, is ready to blip.

Wynn is with the group, 10 ft up.

Angus brings in the rest of the party.

Xenia creeps forward as well. But the mist keeps all vision to five feet. If Xenia moves past the mist, then the DM will make another post as soon as Xenia confirms her brazen advance.

Bin casts a couple protection spells.

Lang is ready for danger. He listens ahead but hears nothing.

The DM estimates that 13 rounds have elapsed since the end of the battle. Sound about right?

"ICE WALL!"

The dark rogue give up silence for the warning. All around is stone, mist ... and the hard cold ice. She spins in a circle, searching for the tell-tale difference in light that would tell her the difference between the direction into the cave and that which leads to the way back through the Forbiddance.

"Angus, I got an Ice Wall here, but with the mist and the jumpin' in here blind, I'm not sure if I'm facing the right way or not. Could be it's an Ice Wall blocking the way going in. But could also be an Ice Wall blocking the way going *Out* too."

"Warn the other guys, huh? I'm gonna move to the right along this here Ice Wall. The way I figure it from what I remember, if I come to a corner, then the Ice Wall must be blocking the way in. If I come to a flat stone wall, it's gotta be blocking the way back out."

Angus summons a few friends from the Lands of Rest, where the Gods of the Wold dwell with the spirits of those yet unborn.

Bin waits.

Xenia moves to the edge of the mist and sees a Wall of Ice about five feet beyond the edge of it. It definitely blocks the way in, not the way out.

Belkior Listens but does not hear anything.

Same with Lang and Wynn.

So, a wall of ice is blocking your way. What do you do?

Angus waves at the two balls of light and instructs them to start casting aid on himself (last) and his friends, starting with Lang and Syr.

Angus scrutinizes the Ice wall attempting to discern its thickness.

"I will enlarge either Lang or Syr and mirror image the other. Who ever is enlarged can have a go at the wall in conjunction with my two scorching rays. It looks like we breach and fan out and look for the Cleric and the Ice demon, hopefully the dragon is not around too."

Angus looks to Lang and Syr "So who gets what?"

Angus will cast the enlarge from his scroll.

Angus whispers to everyone "Time for final preparations. Cast your spells and prepare your magic while we have a few moments."

Syr steps up to the sorceror, "Enlarge please, Lang will end up scaring Sunshine if you make his ugly face any bigger." Syr smiles at the ranger, "Seriously, it doesn't matter either way. I'm just looking for that priest again." Unless Lang speaks up he will await the 'super-size me' spell.

Syr will then step up to the wall and begin wailing away with punches until a section is broken (OOC: not quite sure how to do it but he should be 4 attacks @+18, & 1 @+13, damage 2d8+8)

Wall After Wall (DM Cayzle)

Angus knows that a Wall of Ice is 1 inch thick per caster level. His scorching rays are just enough, doing 36 hp damage, to melt a hole in the wall.

Behind the Ice wall, five feet beyond, is another ice wall!

It occurs to you that if a devil can make one ice wall per round, then how many walls might there be, one after the other? 15 rounds have passed since the battle ended.

Xenia discovers that the mirrors are no longer there.

Bin, Belkior, and Lang wait.

Syr's attacks are not needed to break the wall. There is a new wall waiting, but Syr has not yet passed through the breach created by Angus. Syr asks for an enlarge spell.

Wynn could not see over the first ice wall, and neither can he see over the next, because the walls are floor to ceiling and wall to wall completely blocking the 20 ft by 20 ft tunnel. He does catch up with Xenia.

Syr steps through the opening and looks around (Spot 16). Over his shoulder he speaks to the others, his voice deeper in the larger form, "Strategically, can I make a few suggestions? I'm betting those mirrors are somewhere around here. It might not be best for me to lead? Also, what's to prevent another ice wall from walling us from each other? I know it's not ideal to be grouped together but with these walls, it would be easy to separate us." He moves to the next wall and makes a kick at it.

Xenia rises up, ending at Wynn's side.

"They took down the mirrors." A bright tang of disappointment rides under her voice. She snuggles into his side, resting her head against her shoulder as the other guys work below on the endless ice walls. Get snuggles while you can in this business. You never know when might be your last.

"Angus ... why not summon an elemental? I mean, couldn't a fire elemental burn it's way through? Especially if I made it resistant to cold? Maybe it would be better to call a small earth elemental and simply send it ahead to scout ... then teleport people past all the walls."

Angus is still frustrated and his eyes light up upon hearing Belkior's suggestion "I was about to give up. I could dimension door past, but it is risky and I am already very low on spells. I like your combination idea as the elemental could assist us in battle one we finally break through. Lets see what Syr's kick does before I summon a fire elemental."

Angus worries that the party is using resources at an extreme rate. His summoned archons help out as they can. Angus suggests that Syr take a whack at the next wall.

By the way, the wall is 12 inches thick, so caster level is 12.

Syr steps through the opening. As he does so, he passess through a sheet of cold where the ice had been. Syr takes d6+12 damage, or 15 hp cold damage, unless mitigated by resistance of some kind. Once through, in the five-foot space between walls, Syr takes a kick at the second ice wall. He does significant damage (see below).

Xenia waits with Wynn.

Bin walks up too, taking 14 hp cold damage. He hits the wall for 7.

Belkior suggests summoning an elemental.

Lang seems uncertain.

Wynn moves up too. He also takes 15 hp cold damage. Then he attacks the wall for 12.

Since your DM is sweet-tempered and loving, he'll assume that Syr is able to inflict sufficient damage to the second wall to total 36 damage to the ice structure. A breach is forced. Behind the second wall there is a third wall of ice! How many are there!?!

Those at the breach -- it is a five foot step up to the next wall, if you would like to take a full attack. No attack roll needed ... just roll damage.

The dark rogue sighs as her guy leaves her side to join the bunch chopping away at the ice. Flying down from above, she lands at the side of the halfling cleric of Alemi.

"Hey, Belkie, can you cast this one on me?" She pulls a scroll from her bag. "'Fact, maybe you should keep them all. The language is a little tough, and I don't wanna risk them going wrong if we need them."

"This one's for Fire. This one's 'gainst Acid. And this one's 'gainst 'Lectricity. You keep 'em. Use 'em like you think we should."

"But this one, cast it on me. It's for against Cold. I'm going in."

Protected against the bitter cold, Xenia flies through the two holes to press her ear against the most recent wall blocking their way. The rogue stills her breath to better listen for sounds of movement on the other side of the very thick wall.

Syr backs away to let the elemental do the work careful not to cross back over the cold 'threshold' that he just passed. He spends the time using friction to rub some of the blood back into his limbs (heal 15). As he works he comments to Belkior, "Isn't there also the possibility that one of these walls is illusion the same way that fog was earlier and we are being set up for an ambush?"

[At the start of the round, Syr, Bin, and Wynn are between wall 1 and 2. The rest are in front of wall 1.]

After gaining a bit of magical protection from the cold, Xenia flies over to the (still intact) third ice wall. She listens ... and hears a rumble as if from far far away, muffled beyond comprehension. Could it be a voice? The voice of a landslide, maybe, or a waterfall -- that is, the voice of a deep, large, and low-voiced creature. It pauses, then resumes. Pauses, and resumes. Maybe the pauses are filled with a lesser voice, one Xenia cannot hear?

Belkior has a meaningful insight -- the barrier you face is not the number of ice walls a devil can make, but the space available in which to make them. [OOC: Belkior, please accept a 250 xp award for cleverness.]

Angus summons a fire elemental and Belkior protects it from the cold. Note, however, that AFTER an ice wall is melted away, a curtain-like sheet of coldness is still there where the wall had been, and passing through that causes cold damage [OOC: d6+12 cold damage per sheet]. The elemental does not dispel that frigid curtain of cold.

What spell is used to summon the elemental, and what size elemental?

Syr sidesteps the elemental, but does not step back through the frigid sheet behind him.

Lang keeps a few steps back and stays alert.

Wyn seeks to minimize his damage, so he does not back up through the sheet that caused him harm [Kindly DM intervention.] Like Syr, he steps to the side to allow the elemental passage.

The elemental steps up and starts melting walls. The time it takes to do that is a function of its size and the damage it can inflict. But the walls will soon enough be melted away.

If you go forward, Xenia will have no problem, due to her Cold Resist 20. How about the rest of you? There will be X sheets of frigid air where ice walls used to be, and they each inflict d6+12 damage. How will you advance to the other side?

[At the end of the round, Syr, Bin, and Wynn are between wall 1 and 2. Xenia is between wall 2 and 3. Angus, Lang, Sunshine, and Belkior are in front of wall 1. And by "wall," I mean "see-through curtain-like sheet of pure cold air."]

"I think what I'm hearing on the other side of this wall is, like, well, it's voices. That's not so bad and all, but, um ... One of them voices sound, like, really big, if you know what I mean. I mean, like ... *REALLY* big."

"Um, maybe it's better if I come back through. Or ... Oh fram! I'm gonna hide here next to your sparkie boy, Angus." Xenia melts into the flickering shadows cast by the fire elemental. "See me when you see me."

Upon hearing the news from Xenia "This is not good; A cleric, A devil and maybe a dragon and we are down on everything. At least te dragon will not follow through the cold."

Angus watches as Wildfire melts the ice walls and attempts to calculate how long the wall of cold will last, especially with the fire elemental in the area warming things up.

Xenia warns the party that she hears something ominous on the other side of the ice wall (or walls). She hides.

[OOC: We'll be using Kent's recent ruling on how Hide in Plain Sight interacts with See In The Dark ability.]

Angus directs his summoned creatures to melt the ice walls. He notes that one cannot fly over the walls, since they completely block the passage. The walls have a duration of 12 minutes.

Bin offers cold resistance. Wynn accepts.

Lang asks for healing. Belkior obliges.

Syr holds still while the elemental works.

The fire elemental moves forward and melts the walls. This takes a total of six rounds. Since the last battle ended, about two minutes have passed. Those Bless Weapons are certainly gone by now.

There are, in total, five walls. Then the passageway bends, and from beyond the bend you see a bight red flickering light, as from a bonfire, maybe.

You hear a rumbling, powerful, amused voice from around the corner. "Come in, my friends! You are just in time to join in a fascinating conversation."

The ice walls -- or rather, the sheets of cold energy where once they stood -- still have ten minutes of duration left to them.

"I'm gonna try sump'in, guys," the rogue warns her companions. She waits but a moment for one of Angus' strange Globe Critters to bless her with some kind of weerdo magic. Then she flies through the sheets of cold that guard the remaining holes.

A moment of caution and a good look and listen, precede the final opening. But, all things being safe, (well, reasonably safe) she emerges into the final cavern in full view of anyone -or anything- that might want to see her.

"Hi, I'm Xenia." The rogue takes in her surroundings, searching for both the Bony Guy and the Ga'al Priesty Guy. "So ... whatcha talking about?"

Syr feels his form shrinking and breaths a sigh of relief as he is once more his normal elven self. Looking over at Angus he shakes his head head, "No more short term stuff. This is taking too long as it is, save it for offense. If one of you gets a second, can I get one of the resists? I'm no good to the group unless I can get in close and that involves dodging these cold areas."

He watches carefully (spot 17) as Xenia tries to make contact with the enemy.

Angus will cast up to 3 resist colds while waiting now that Belkior has cast two more. That should take care of the party, wheather we go forward based on Xenia's information or fall back and fight another day.

Angus agonizes over the party's use of magical resources.

Xenia moves forward openly, calling a welcome.

Bin heals up and watches.

Lang peers ahead.

Belkior casts Resist Colds and Cures.

Wynn floats ahead quietly and keeps alert.

Angus casts some Resists Colds too.

Syr is alert too.

All resist cold but Sunshine.

Xenia sees a big chamber, maybe 60 feet in diameter and 40 feet high. At the center is a dragon! He sits on a huge pile of coins -- mostly copper and silver, with a little gold as well.

There is also a human here, by his clothing, a high priest of Ga'al.

There are three other ways out of the room, which is lit with continual flame spells.

Xenia gets the clear idea that the human's scowl reveals a fundamental hostility. He is not glad to see her.

From the dragon, on the other hand, Xenia senses curiosity and amusement. The Dragon speaks: "More guests! It is a party! I do so love a party!"

"Come in, friend, Xenia! And let me ask your other friends to enter too! You have my word that if they are polite, they will not be attacked unless they attack first."

"This is a new friend of mine, Father Timity. You can call me Hotshot, which is more of a nickname, but will do for now."


The dragon explains that the priest has been trying to convince him to accept a Heartseed. Hotshot is reluctant, but open to the possibility. He is not sure that Ga'al is a really strong god. He wonders what kind of test would be appropriate to test the mettle of a god of testing.

The rogue gives her little signature hand wave then takes one, two, three side steps further into the room. Her green eyes look left then right, left then right.

"Where'd the Bony Guy go? They were pretty keen on killing us down outside your cave here ... um ... Hotshot."

"Just like you, you weerdo freak!" The dark rogue points an accusing finger at the priest of Ga'al. "You and your four friends. But lookee here. They're dead and we're not. How'd you like that? Bin even took 'em apart to see those wooden heart seed things they had in 'em."

"You know, I was just about to put the smash on you when you took off, Priesty Guy. You wanna know what he said just before he did the magic door thing and disappeared? You wanna know what he said, Hotshot? He told his little minions that they'd get dragons for horses. He wants you to heartseed so you can fly 'em around."

OOC - What colour is the dragon?

The halfling cleric moves forward, through all of the planes of cold hanging where the walls of ice had been placed. In a matter of moments, Belkior is standing beside Xenia to look upon the dragon and cleric. Knowing what they are facing, Belkior concentrates to pierce any illusion in the space.
Will save = 30 to disbelieve
Will save - 35, to withstand dragon fear


"Can I approach, Hotshot? I am Belkior Orvisson, Healer and Paragon of Alemi. May I ask how Father Timity has described the benefits of accepting a heartseed?"

Under his breath, Belkior whispers to Xenia. "Ahhh ... why not make sure exactly what we're dealing with here. No need to go off and get someone riled up before the others arrive."

Thinking to himself that he has never seen a real live dragon up close, the elf cranes his neck to take it all in. Remembering the scale that they found earlier, he looks for an exposed spot on the dragon's hide wondering if he will have to use it later.

Holding his breath, Syr moves forward through the remnants of the cold walls and stops at the edge of the room behind and beside Xenia. Content to let the red haired lass do the talking, he watches for any signs of an ambush. (spot 12)

This is bull dung, getting friendly with an evil dragon who will pillage this area when it wants to and likely leave Stonegap a ruins if not under the control of a heartseed.

Bin steaps into the room and moves to the front of the group, near Timity, "Father is it? Father of destruction and pain I suppose. I think you failed your test there Timity and I hope Ga'al justly repays you for that failure."

He turns his head to the side and looks up into the dragons eyes, "Greetings, I am Bin, a protector of the weak and innocent. It seems we have an Aisuldurain face off eh? Leave this region and leave the people here alone, and you won't have a problem with us. Take this piece of crap (flexing his head toward Timity) and his butt sniffers with you and I'll pay your handsomly."

Angus hears voices and sees Bin stride forward. On his invisible pixie wings Angus flies through the sheets of cold in anticipation of the sensation.

When Angus reaches the cave he squeeks as he rises as high as he can "So we meet again. Which friends will you and Ga'al abandon this time?"

Angus is looking for the bone devil.

"I am reminded of a folk tale in which one can find much truth".

Wynns voice comes melodically from thin air.

"A wild tiger is tamed and collared by a prince. The prince is powerful by all standards and looks after his new tiger well. The cat grows big and strong and his fur is thick and luxurious on a diet of prepared beef. The cat and the prince are looked upon with awe by the royal subjects. The former for its obvious power and the prince for the will to tame such a beast. As time goes by, the subjects become less fearful and begin to approach much closer, for now all they see is the prince and his pet. The tiger is no longer wild and so... not really a tiger at all...just an exotic pet on a chain."

Wynn lets this last piece hang in silence for just a moment.

"Is a dragon with a heartseed that does the bidding of a priest of Ga'al really still a dragon...or just a pet? In the end, the priest may well be feared but the pet can only be pitied." [Diplomacy=32 to persuade the dragon]

Wynn to his left 10 feet after speaking to avoid being pinpointed by his words.
