The Brother I Lost

Brothers and Others (DM Cayzle)  d100=20
Thursday October 4th, 2007 9:56:59 PM

Zeoll, on retreat, is nowhere to be found.

Winterglade tells his comrades that although he will stick with the group, he still thinks that different Taurs think differently.

Brahmah is curious about how that might work in practice, and invites Winterglade to try his hand at battle leadership some time.

Flat-top declares his loyalty to all the Chosen.

Kael spends some time in the village tavern. It is the Hayloft, and it is run by B'minny, a mae minotaur, once cook at Hearthold Keep, and Neima, a liontaur female who was once the Keep steward. During the years that the Chosen were in exile, the two of them started the inn.

Neima rushes to take Kael's order, and will nto take his payment. "No Chosen's gold is good under my roof!" she exclaims.

She tells him, by the way, what news she has heard from afar. Some adventurers in Aisildur are fighting the priests of Ga'al. And the Platinum Dragons have been busy on Dirt City -- something about halflings.

Closer to home, the druids of Centaur Island have been stockpiling grain, and there is a great surplus of wines being lain in after a bumper year in the vinyards.

Gecktar retreats for prayer and divination. After casting his magic, he falls into a light sleep or trance. In his mind's eye, he sees a blacksmith working metal with a hammer and an anvil. In time to the blows of the hammer on the hot metal, the blacksmith sings:

Where is the brother I lost?
How will I find him again?
On what far shore was he tossed?
How will I find him? And when?

Wait for a stranger and know.
Know him by his father's name.
He will not know where to go,
Follow him close just the same.

Winterglade
Friday October 5th, 2007 9:12:23 AM

[Brahmah:] "Complicated plan. How would we destroy the foundation and dungeons as they are stone? Or get past his orc gardeners that seem to swarm the place? Sentries?"

Winterglade scratches his head and thinks for a moment. "How about Stone Shape? Invisibility plus Silence?"

[Brahmah:] "Being Chosen is about having faith in and understanding your taur cousins."

"Having faith in you Taurs is doable. Understanding is harder, but Winterglade tries the best he can. Trusting your judgement is something that needs to be earned, though. Winterglade doesn't fully trust his own judgement, and, at times, even the judgement of his patron. Don't expect him to make exceptions so easily."

"Winterglade respects the decision of the group made through voting and will follow."

[Brahmah:] "Next time there is combat, you can play field general."

"That would be a good idea were it not for the fact that if yet another of your old enemies crosses our path there will be no time for Winterglade to ask who is he and what capabilities does he posess. Just a month ago Winterglade couldn't tell Vargas from any other Taur even if he bumped into him in the street. But don't worry, Winterglade will point out every single time he thinks some tactical opportunity is being missed."

[Brahmah:] "If you are intolerant of this 'hornhead's' qualities as leader, then call for the vote to remove me."

"Remove? No. You know each other much better than Winterglade does, and if they chose you as their leader it is because they believe you are the best one for the job. Winterglade couldn't hope to offer better leadership, for he lacks knowledge about your foes, trust others have in you, and your level of conviction in your mission. Still, Winterglade thinks there is room for improvement, and will offer his advice if you will have it."

"For example, if tactical maneouvers are a problem, then the solution is to have a combat exercise every now and then. A period of peace and lull such as the one we are having right now would be just perfect for it. Have you ever thought about taking this group through a mock fight with, say, summoned monsters, where you could all analyze the outcome afterwards and maybe fight it again to see if another tactics works better?"

[Gecktar:] "What do you think about this question ?"

"You are thinking about performing a Divination, yes? Asking about the ship would probably be safest, yes. Maybe asking where we should travel to find it?"

Flat-top
Friday October 5th, 2007 9:24:20 AM

Flat-top wakes from a deep sleep, All confused?? He was swetting and his hard is itchy. "Oh what a night-mare! I have to wash before breackface, I wonder if I can eat after that Dream??"

Flat-top goes to the water-faff in back of their Home, washes the sweet off, but still wonders about the dream?? " had a very disturbing Dream last night? I was on a ship chasing another ship, but not gaining on it? There was also a storm. It was raining, lighting and the wind was blowing. Insted of thunder it was the clang of a black-smith anvil? Avoice kept saying over and over 'your Brother - Your Brother! Zeoll?? Can you make any thing of this DREAM?"

Flat-top eats another bowl of Alfafa and Clover, he's very huungry after athat dream.

Kael
Friday October 5th, 2007 12:01:53 PM

Kael thinks about the centaur's stockpile. The other chosen seem tolerant of the centaurs. But Kael has been shown no reason to forget the atrocities they have committed against his people in the name of their "god". Sure the centaurs he now travels with seem peaceful, but what will happen if their people prove to be the enemy of Domi? Will they continue to support the cause?

Kael approaches the group at a moment that accents his concern as Winterglade and Brahmah argue over leadership of the chosen.

Brahmah
Friday October 5th, 2007 12:41:07 PM

[Glade:]
Smiling, Brahmah looks at Glade. "I will take all that into consideration... when Zeoll gets back. Zeoll is my most trusted adviser, but maybe you both could collaborate on tactics, planning, etcetera. Zeoll knows our ways very well and has, himself, told me things need adjusting."

"Too bad Zeoll is gone, we could spar with the summoned animals now. But I want to have the whole group here.
Summoned creatures are predictable though, so can you think up something else we could fight? Something that can think for itself maybe?"

[Bar talk:]
Brahmah listens and concerns are raised. Why would centaurs be stockpiling food like that? Ga'al again! Platinum Dragons are great people, great heroes.
"Neima, the Chosen are no different than your other patrons! We should pay like the rest!"

Brahmah
Friday October 5th, 2007 12:43:19 PM

[Glade:] Adding, "Oh, there's this wonderful horn... Valhalla horn? At the Catacombs. It produces barbarians. Maybe one of those for training would be good? Animals are boring to fight, we need to fight something with weapons!"

Gecktar
Friday October 5th, 2007 4:53:08 PM

Gecktar reports his dream to the Chosen.

Where is the brother I lost?
How will I find him again?
On what far shore was he tossed?
How will I find him? And when?

Wait for a stranger and know.
Know him by his father's name.
He will not know where to go,
Follow him close just the same.

"Of course we shouldn't expect a clear answer. The way of Gods are obscure to mortal vision. But I think that the clue is that someone will come...

OOC: is it assumed that we had time to complete magical items construction ?

Cayzle OOC
Friday October 5th, 2007 5:38:56 PM

Yup, go ahead and assume time enough to complete magic items and such.

Moshushi
Friday October 5th, 2007 7:15:32 PM

"'He will not know where to go?' That could be most of us!" Moshushi chuckles at his own joke.

"I'm not really comfortable with summoning creatures to fight when just for practice, though it might not be a bad idea to find a way to practice.

I think I'm going to wander the island a bit longer. it's nice to be in forests and have time to enjoy them. I'll return soon, in case we need to leave."

Understandings (Sub DM Cayzle)
Friday October 5th, 2007 10:42:11 PM

[OOC: My last post yay! New DMs Jon and Kristal start on Monday. I've sent them the latest PC sheets I have, but only mine and Winterglade's are very very up to date. You might want to send them a newer one!]

Winterglade and Brahmah reach an understanding, and agree that some practice combat might be a good idea.

Flat-top seems very understanding of Gecktar's divination. Maybe the centaur was so in tune with his friend that a little divine advice spilled over? :-)

Kael and Brahmah (both minotaurs) wonder why the centaurs are stockpiling food. Hmm ... laying in for a seige? or just the natural results of a good harvest?

Gecktar shares his divination and speculates as to its meaning. Mosushi comments as well, but takes advantage of an opportunity to wander the forests of the island.

Mosushi finds a fellow liontaur in the forest. It is Zeoll, and he looks very gaunt. He has not eaten or slept in a while, and he seems more than a little bit crazed. His eyes are wide and he says to Mosushi ...

"Early to bed, early to sleep, helps you to view the prophesies you keep."

"That's what she told me, even though she's dead."

Then he collapses, unconscious.

Winterglade
Saturday October 6th, 2007 4:24:13 PM

"Hmm, hmm... Winterglade will think more about possible ways of training. There are several options open here."

When the dream is described the centaur furrows his brow. "The Smith sent you a dream? <The brother that is lost> might be referring to Rock. This would be good news, as it would mean he is not dead after all."

Flat-top
Sunday October 7th, 2007 8:49:16 AM

"Yes! Rock was Centaur fighter, a good one too. If I remember He was bigger than Me? But when your traped, size does not matter. Your Trap!" recalls Flat-top. "The last time I set eyes on him, He was tied up, on a boat that was leaving the Island! If I recall right?"

"Is that right Zeoll? You was with me? But if Hes a prisoner, I'm for getting him free!"

Brahmah
Monday October 8th, 2007 4:55:42 PM

"Chosen, I think that we have come to a decision. We are off to Osto to explore and look for a ship that might ship things to the doctors island, right?

We should plan how we're getting there to Osto and if we should travel incognito or just as ourselves.

Personally, I think this mission will be dangerous, but informative. If we can find the docs supply lines, we can have him shut down in a matter of weeks, or at the very least, out of the Islands. If we can get him removed by using diplomacy and politics, that might be best. Get an embargo set up against him, find out what nation he is associated with, etcetera. I think that might be the best way.

Yes, I said tearing him a new one was the plan, but people like that only feel monetary pain. Possessions, such as a mansion, can be rebuilt, but remove the source and you hit 'em where it hurts. I learned that when I was a pira... sailing with the merchants."

Zeoll
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 12:29:47 AM

After he is somewhat recovered, Zeoll makes his way back to his friends at the Keep. He is in time to hear Brahmah talk about going to Osto.

Zeoll thinks that going to find out more is a swell idea. He thinks that he may be of help in gathering info.

But he doubts that the Chosen will be able to cut the doctor's lines of supply. For one thing, there are always smugglers and worse willing to go anywhere and sell anything for a price ... many liontaur merchants among them.

For another thing, probably the Doctor can teleport wherever he wants.

Zeoll points out that if we are going to Osto by sea, the cities of Fargunia and Zarthmoor are along the way -- especially Isumbre, where the WLA is headquartered.

If we are landing at a land port and walking to Osto, that's a more direct option, but it means coming awful close to Aisildur, and that's scary.

Winterglade
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 3:45:24 AM

Winterglade stands there with his arms folded on his chest. He doesn't say anything when a ship is mentioned, but his eyebrow starts to twitch. "<Sigh> It's so far from home... Correct Winterglade if he's wrong, but he's heard something about a Cursed Swamp being in the way? Is Osto even a proper port?"

Flat-top
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 7:48:55 AM

Flat-top is a very good looking Centaur, with three tattoos one on the left shoulder, one on the right shouldre and one in the middle of his chest, he also sports horse shoes that comes to a point (Hmm! How odd?)

Like any other Centaur He's always hungry. From his fisacel body, you know that he's a fighter/archer. The way he is with children, his heart belongs to the little ones. But boy can he eat! "I'll go anywhere you Decide."

"I think and check on the Childrens Schooling, just to see if they need anything? See you all at lunch time? What we eat at noon? Gee! that a long time before lunch!"

Flat-top leaves to see the teacher and the children.

Brahmah
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 1:54:30 PM

"From what I have heard, Osto is a port but not huge. I think my ship stopped there once, but I don't remember it."

"Like I said earlier, to avoid ships and time spent on them, we need to find a regular way to teleport places. The centaurs have a hard time swimming and the wemic don't like to. So, thats why I suggested teleportation a while ago."

(OOC: I forget. Are there airships in the Wold? If so, we need to look into traveling that way.)

Kael
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 2:33:03 PM

[ooc: What does the T stand for in the posting summary?]

Kael will spend the rest of the time at the tavern unless the chosen choose to do some training. He will send word back home to his daughter of his adventures so far.

When the time comes Kael gathers his gear and joins the others.

the TT are for Tis Tis!! Adm Ceil
PS. You though I didn't have an answer ready??

Gecktar
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 3:31:36 PM

Gecktar listen to Brahmah and Zeoll. He agrees that they need plan their trip an even find a way to travel by another means than by water. Glade would be happy if they found such a way to travel.

Gecktar has heard about several spells that could help but they are far beyond his power and that of any Chosen he guesses...

Zeoll  d20+14=26
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 5:01:45 PM

Zeoll will do some asking around about any ships that are headed for points north on the continent towards Isumbre and Osto.

Gather Info 26

Brahmah
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 5:47:59 PM

The ranger will travel around with Zeoll, not helping with gathering (because it will lower Zeoll's check). However, will take this opportunity to talk with the Seer.

Brahmah will tell Zeoll of Glade's plan for Chosen training. "He suggests summoning creatures to fight and practice tactics. I told him you and he should work together on a training schedule and idea for training. Glade said it would be good to work with you as you are familiar with the Chosen and might help him to get to know our style. He really seemed will to work it out. I think he seems to believe I lack a... regularity or standard. Maybe I'm wrong. He is going to be our battle coordinator for the next combat, with you as his assistant. Is that okay? Are you comfortable with him? He seems willing to work hard."

"Also, do some divining if possible and figure out where that hunter might be. If you can, pin point my badge to see where it might have been taken."

New Friend Co-DM Jon
Tuesday October 9th, 2007 11:53:44 PM

Brahmah discusses the decision the party has made of going to find the doctor and the
Hunter by way of Osto and the best way to get there.
Zeoll after returning to the keep joins in to the discussion voicing some doubts
Winterglade grumbles about the need to be taking a boat, and wonders is Osto even a proper port?"
Gecktar joins in adding his two coppers on the subject of travel noting some magical options.
After a hour or so of talking Zeoll and Brahmah soon leave the Keep.
Kael sits in the tavern eating his meal and writing a letter to his daughter, he is about half way though his letter
when the door opens to admit 2 more Chosen, Zeoll and Brahmah. He looks up to see what they are doing as they walk over and talk to the bartender
B'minny about passage north. She looks around for a moment and points to a human in his mid 30's in the corner of the bar. The man has the look of a sailor about him.
As the two Chosen approach the human they can tell just from the smell rolling of him, he much be a sailor.
He also looks as if he has started pickling his liver with strong ale and is at least 3 sheets to the wind.
He forces himself to look at you when you arive at his table .. Slurring his words more than a bit ...
Whhhat can I dooooo Fooooor Yooou fine gentallman all 8 of you ...

Brahmah
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 2:04:12 AM

"Zeoll, we'll get more information from a wet towel. Lets move on. Find someone sober."

Winterglade
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 5:38:58 AM

Initially the centaur wanders the jungle behind the keep aimlessly, but with every passing moment he feels more drawn to the spot in the garden where he has been resting all these days. He recognizes this mood of his - a crazy idea is just behind the corner... Winterglade absent mindedly pats the old stonework of the low wall, his mind wandering who knows where.

Later in the evening he chips in on the issue of magic travel. "Winterglade feels we could try Plane Shifting to Astral and then finding the proper vortex leading to our destination. Winterglade knows how this works in theory, but at the moment the required power is just beyond his reach."

Flat-top
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 8:04:48 AM

Flat-top had listen to the Talk around the table, finishes his salad bowl, put down his fork (which look almost like a pitch fork "Hmm! That was good! Now for my two cp, I have never travel by Astral means, so my friend Glade, I'm willing to try."

Zeoll  d20+14=27
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 10:42:30 AM

Zeoll sighs. "Alas, my frriend," he tells Brahmah, "I am still only a novice seerr. The kinds of divinations you seek will have to wait forr a while yet."

"I love the idea of trraining togetherr! My abilities, especially, worrk best with good coorrdination. I will seek out Winterrglade and see what we can come up with."

Later, Zeoll approaches Winterglade about training and sample combats. He suggests that he can call an animal companion to serve as sparring partner, and summon other creatures with spells. He is eager to hear Glade's ideas.

[OOC to DM: LOL! It would be fun to give us say two weeks / 10 posts just to fight among ourselves and practice combat tactics.]

In the tavern with Kael and Brahmah, Zeoll looks at the drunk sailor who has made his presence known. Zeoll pauses, and calls Brahmah to stop for a moment. "Captain, we may have passed drrunkarrds at otherr tables just today ... surrely therre have been intoxicated patrrons at many establishments we have passed thrrough. Why does this one stand out? My hearrt tells me that maybe therre is morre to this one than to otherrs we have seen and failed to notice."

Zeoll asks around -- who is this fellow? What is his ship? [Gather Info 27]

Zeoll asks brewmaster Kael if he has a remedy for alcohol. If not, the liontaur picks up the drunk sailor and staggers back to the keep, asking Gecktar or Glade if they can neutralize the poison he has willingly imbibed. On the way, he casts Charm Person several times on the sailor, in the hope that upon awakening, he will be a new friend.

[Charm Person Will Save is DC20]

Brahmah  d20+12=32 d20+13=21
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 12:07:44 PM

Saying nothing further about the drunk, Brahmah nods his head and crosses his arms. Zeoll might have seen Brahmah's hand grasp his hilt under a folded arm... just as a precaution.

The ranger stands back and waits for the green seer to work his magic.

Brahmah is vigilant for anyone else eavesdropping on them. (Listen 32, Spot 21... +4 if centaur, +2 if human) The minotaur doesn't want to risk a thing.

Brahmah
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 12:08:58 PM

"Speaking as a barrd, I think that this is all some tall tale of an imaginarry place."

[OOC: The "Astral Plane" does not exist in the Multiverse of the Wold.]

OOC: I get busy with work and don't post a few dys, and a player leaves. i go out of the country a few days, and our DMs switch. What would the group do without the stability i bring. My sheet is on it's way.

Having seen Zeoll in sorry shape recently, Moshushi is a bit surprised to see him hauling a drunk around.

"Do you need a hand with..who is he?" Mosh holds out his scrawny little arms to help haul the guy

Kael
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 6:32:38 PM

Kael laughs at the request for a remedy. "Why not as if there is a cure for a sunny day?"

"Are we in need of a drunk?"

Zeoll
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 6:42:04 PM

Zeoll rose to the occaision as need presented itself, but he is very glad indeed for Mosushi's help!

Zeoll tells Kael that we have need of a sobering up!

Sailor's Delight - CoDM Kristel
Wednesday October 10th, 2007 11:26:24 PM

Brahmah expresses his disgust in regards to the drunk sailor that is before him wanting to turn his back and wash his hands of him.

Zeoll ponders why this drunk? He then decides to scoop up the drunken sailor and stumble back towards the Keep hoping for answers later. About half way there Zeoll stops and casts a quick spell on his new smelly friend, at about the same time the sailor opens his blood shot eyes and pukes everywhere.

Zeoll (Dex check DC 15 to avoid the mess)(bouncing drunks not always great idea)

Wandering through the court yard Moshushi sees Zeoll struggling with the sailor and wonders why Zeoll and Brahmah are kidnapping the local population but offers his help in the act anyways.
Upon returning to the Keep they confer with the rest of the group about how to sober up the sailor.
One of the maids overhears them talking and says "I hear that dunking a drunk in a barrel of cold water works well but then people get grumpy waking up wet you might just let him sleep it off." She then scurries off to her chores. Kael laughs and offers more drink.

Winterglade wanders aimlessly in the gardens behind the keep hoping for answers to questions unasked and for inspiration to come as to why he is being drawn to that one spot.

Flat-Top polishes off another helping of greens then waits for the party to return and once they have he joins in the conversation about the drunken sailor. Slowly the shadows move in over the Keep and darkness falls, the Chosen notice a red hue to the sky and some may remember the familiar words "Red skies at night, sailors delight....." The drunk sailor snores through it all.

OOC sorry that the posting is so late this will NOT be the norm. Tomorrow I am going to try and get the post in before we leave for the game

Winterglade
Thursday October 11th, 2007 6:04:00 AM

"So, who is the half-centaur? An old friend of yours?"

Winterglade does as he is asked and treats the sailor with Neutralize Poison. Then, Winterglade being his normal self - which means a mean streak - he follows that with a Remove Disease hoping to cure the man of his alcoholism.

"Yes, you hear stories about astral behemoths and such. If Zeoll is sure this is just a myth then we'll have to find another way of travel, yes?" [I didn't know that much about Woldian cosmology - as Cayzle explained to me there is no Astral plane so sadly this idea won't work.]

"Hmm, hmm. How about some illusions for combat training? Could give us a much wider choice of opponents?"

Zeoll  d20+22=29 d20+21=41 d20+2=14
Thursday October 11th, 2007 7:18:01 AM

Before the sailor is restored, Zeoll will also Detect Evil.

When the sailor is in his right mind -- with many many thanks to Winterglade -- Zeoll will treat him as a new friend. Without any lying, Zeoll acts as if they met in the bar, had a good time, and became bosum buddies.

"You were so drrunk, my new frriend! I'm not surrprrised yourr memorry is a little shakey. Herre, have some food and rrefrreshment. Rrelax beforre you head back."

Diplomacy 29, Bluff 41 nat 20!

Hopefully the Charm Person has also taken effect.

Zeoll then engages his new friend in conversation. Rumors around the port, where this fellow has been. Where he is going. What ship he is from, who his captain is, and what he has heard about ships headed to Isumbre and Osto.

Also, has he ever heard of the Doctor, his Island, or who supplies him.

After ever-so-nicely pumping this fellow dry, Zeoll shakes his hand and sends off. If he has not place to stay, he is welcome to bunk at the Keep for a while, though.

Oh! by the way, Zeoll rolled a 14 on that Dex check! So he does clean up while the fellow eats. The liontaur laughs it off and makes no big deal of being spewed on.

Regarding training, Zeoll agrees that illusions are also a good idea for sparring partners.

Zeoll asks Mosushi and Kael if they can create illusions.

He also suggests that they could practice against each other, doing nonlethal damage, mostly.

"Actually Kael, due to alot of Zeoll's creative casting, we have avoided quite a few fights and the one we didn't, he removed two combatants from the combat. He came back with their gear. I guess they were quite happy to be rid of it." :)

"Anyway, Zeoll is a blessing by Domi. His predecessors were not NEARLY as creative. Zeoll the Greater and then the Lesser had specialties but nothing quite like this Zeoll." :)

Brahmah watches Zeoll purge this pirate, sailor, guy for everything he knows. If Zeoll gets nowhere, there is always good old interrigation. ;)

Drinking Buddies??? Co-DM Kristel
Thursday October 11th, 2007 5:33:57 PM

Winterglade treats the drunken sailor with a Neutralize poison to sober him up. He decides however to go one step farther and treat him with a Cure Disease hoping to cure him also of his alcoholism. He suggests to the other Chosen that they use illusions for combat training.
Zeoll cleans the sailor's dinner off himself and uses Detect Evil on the sailor. He finds there is no evil coming from this man.
Soon the drunken sailor starts to wake and he groans. He rises and looks at himself in disgust. "What happened to me? Where am I?"

Zeoll's plan of pretending they are buddies seems to work and the sailor starts answering some of their questions. "My name is John Heartson and I am Captain of the Rusty Fish Hook, pleased to make your acquaintance." He seems well spoken despite his obvious state of disarray.

"What are all your names if I might ask and where am I, then I will answer more of your questions? Although I will tell you one thing, this Island of the Dr that you are looking for is an evil place. No Captain in their right mind would be bringing their ship there so my guess is it is supplied by pirates and smugglers or worse" He reaches for his wineskin and takes a nice long swallow then spits it back out "Blecchh what happened to the fine wine I had in here, anyone have something to drink" The sailor waits to be introduced before he continues.

Zeoll asks Mosushi and Kael if they are able to create illusions and Kael responds that he has no way to create illusions.

Flat Topbrings a shovel and some sand to hide the mess made by their guest then settles to listen to the fairy tale that Zeoll tells him about Astral Behemoth and the Three Bears (OOC nice one)

Brahmah listens to the questioning of the sailor thinking there are other ways to question him if they can't get their answers this way.

While all this is going on some servants come and bring some refreshments and clean up the mess made by the Captain. They also light the torches in the room as darkness descends.

"Ah, my good new frriend, drrink has addled yourr memorry, and you do not even rrememberr meeting me at the taverrn! Ha ha! But no matterr!"

The liontaur seer bows low. He is dressed in leather armor, and there are feathers and beads woven into his mane and tail. A wreathe of living leaves sits on his brow, and red berries grow in the wreath. A pair of small round dark lenses are perched on his nose, and a fabulous robe of shifting colors flows behind him. There's a small leather pouch around his neck on a string of rawhide, a small drum at his belt, and the hilt of a greatsword over his shoulder.

"I am Zeoll the Seerr, Chosen of Domi, and I am pleased to meet you, Captain John Hearrtson!"

"Maybe you can tell us wherre we would find the kinds of smugglerrs and pirrates who would supply such a dastarrd?"

Gecktar
Friday October 12th, 2007 4:00:35 AM

OOC: sorry for my poor posting rate ATM. I will do better next week ;)

Gecktar previously made a letter that he sealed with the wax and stamp from the ring that Brahmah offered them.
In this letter he invites an architect to come to the hearthold keep and take his quarter in it. He is offered good earnings if he is able to maintain the hold and even fortify it. Of course the cost of the material and working force will be up to the Chosen (Gecktar will pay if necessary).

Next he tries to find someone able to take the letter and find a good reputed architect. Maybe at the port there will be someone who will accept.
He asks the other Chosen if they knowabout someone that would be able to do this : find an architect and hand-in the letter. The answer is to be given rapidly of course.

In the evening, when Zeoll and Brahmah come back with a drunken man
"Oh guys, what have you brought back in the keep. Another poor victim of alcohol..."

"Who is this guy ?"

But Gecktar has the answer few moment later when Glade heal the man.

"You so kindly introduced yourself, that I should do the same now. I Gecktar Cadeqa, servant of Domi. You are here in the Hold of the Chosen of Domi. You are most welcome..." He sees the staff bringing some refreshment he add "You would be best to stay out of range of any alcohol during the next hours but, savour some of this cookies. They are wonderfull, I think it's cinnamon that I taste..."

"So you know something about the isle of the Doctor. I'm eager to know all that you have to say."

(OOC: Zeoll, Would you be able to play a lyre of building ? I think we could make great things with that !)

[Kael:] "Personally the only thing I've seen you all fight is a bit of boredom on the island."

"That and inner demons."

[Flat-top:] "What this a astral Behemonts?"

"As the story goes it's supposed to be a huge, aggressive creature that preys on those who use magic to go where Taurs are not supposed to be. First it fixes you with its gaze, which drains all magic from your body, then it grabs you and devours you faster than you could eat an apple pie."

Bowing to the sailor, the centaur introduces himself: "Winterglade, son of Strawmane the Cursed of the Windwalker tribe, bids you welcome."

One by one the Chosen introduce themselves to the Captain. He looks around at them and says "Seems like I have landed with an interesting group of Companions" He smiles then says to Zeoll, "I have a question for you if you don't mind. Can you tell me about that interesting wreath on your head?"

With that he turns and looks at the others and says "Now I will answer the best I can what ye have asked of me"

"I have been a sailor for many many years now, worked my way from deckhand to Captain of my own ship, I know the sea and the sea knows me. My ship is the Rusty Fish Hook, it may not sound like much of a name but she is a Goddess on the water and she is fast and strong. I have had some troubles in my life, the most recent of which is why you met me in my most recent state, but more of that later" He smiles a smile that seems forced then continues "I do not know much more than what I have already told you about this Island of the Dr's you speak about however I have heard recently that more and more ships are disappearing in that area if you know what I mean. As to how I know about his suppliers, well I don't really know all of you well enough to reveal that" The Captain rubs his chin thinking for a moment "Hmmmm rumours, well for some reason there are less and less ships heading into Isumbre and Osto is poor on wheat for some reason. As for where I have been, well that is easy, I have been everywhere and nowhere, I have seen, heard and done it all. I have seen the most gruesome things you can imagine and some of the most beautiful places." He pauses for a moment rubbing his chin again and absentmindedly grabs for his wineskin, opens it up, scrunches his nose and dumps it on the ground. "Gotta get some better stuff to put in there." He looks up and remembers he is not alone "Where am I heading?" he laughs heartily "Well I can head anywhere for a price and right now the cargo hold is empty"

The Chosen take some time to take in all the information that they have been give and Zeoll offers for Captain Heartson a bunk in the Keep if he has nowhere else to go.

In response to this offer Captain Heartson says "Well to be honest I do have a bed and a room on my ship but I wouldn't mind spending a night in a bed not rolling on the sea if that is well with you?"

Once the Captain is finished answering questions Gecktar comes in and shows the Chosen a letter he has drafted requesting an architect for Hearthhold Keep and he asks the others if anyone knows how to get it to an architect or to port.

Captain Heartson says "Oh I heard of some architects gathering in Isumbre forgot to tell you that"

Winterglade meanwhile tells Flat Top more of the Astral Behemoth and Flat Top puffs his chest and boasts that it won't get him.

"How much to head for Osto? Isumbre? Not necessarily in that order. How much to retain you for a couple weeks? Maybe a month?
I can give you tattoos for free, maybe magical ones? Or gold is always good. Or even a ring of Sustenance! Those work wonders for long days 'board ship! Saves money on rations and you WON'T get scurvy or food poisoning! How many on your crew?"
The minotaur ranger is suddenly in his former pirate mindset. Its very rare to see.

The liontaur lashes his tail in a little more than some frustration.

"Frriends, I am worrried. Worrried that we do not have a path orr a plan. Ourr goal is to take down that human madman who has been disapearring ships, kidnapping Taurs, and using their deaths as enterrtainment. We have to follow the courrse that will lead to that goal."

"Hearrtson herre thinks that local pirrates and scum arre morre prromising leads than merrchants in Osto or arrchitects in Isumbrre. What we need is to hit the darrkerr side of some local Taurr porrts and gatherrr some info. That's my specialty. We should contrract Hearrtson and his ship, head forr Minotaurr Isle, and put in quiet like at some porrts. Minotaurr Isle is on the way to Isumbrre and Osto anyway."

"Maybe we can use Brrahmah's old sailorr contacts or Kael's knowledge of places wherre folk drrink. Let's see what we can find out."

"If we want to go on to Osto, fine. If we pick up a trrail on the way, maybe we won't need to. If we do not go to Osto, we can send Gecktar's letterr to Isumbrre frrom Minotaurr Isle."

[Zeoll:] "What we need is to hit the darrkerr side of some local Taurr porrts."

"As long as we don't end up sailing under a black flag ourselves Winterglade supposes it probably could pay off. But Winterglade hates seedy dives. It takes ages to remove the smell from his mane after such a visit."

Zeoll
Sunday October 14th, 2007 7:47:26 AM

Zeoll answers Winterglade with a smile.

"My frriend, fearr not! You Centaurrs should stay belowdecks in the Minoturr porrts, don't you think? Therre will be a time for all Chosen Taurrs to stand forrth -- and I think that day will be soon -- but on a trrip to gatherr info frrom seedy Minotaurr barrs? Not so much."

"And that way you keep yourr manes frresh, too!" Zeoll laughs.

Sunday October 14th, 2007 11:21:17 AM

"Goals seem clear to me. Find the doctors and stop the suppliers, get to island, and remove him either politically or permanently from the Wold. He is evil.
We should get information from the WLA in Isumbrre, it is their wish to remove evil from the Wold and as a Chosen, that is the goal as well.
I think the best course is to remove the doctors suppliers and maybe he'll look for us, we won't have to find him. It is even possible that the Minions and Doctor are in cahoots."

What next CoDM Kristel
Sunday October 14th, 2007 8:08:52 PM

Captain Heartson listens to the talk amongst the companions while he munches away on some of the goodies that have been brought in to them. He stops when Brahmah queries him on the crew of his ship and offers him all sorts of things to hire him on. "Well me ship is a warship see and it has a crew of 67, 68 if you include me and never a finer bunch" He pops another grape into his mouth and the says "Hmmm all that you have offered sound good indeed and I am sure we can work something out, maybe we can scratch each others backs if you know what I mean. Can you tell me more of these tattoos?"
Mosushi informs the others that he is not able to create illusions and he suggests heading to Isumbre to find an architect.
Zeoll is concerned that the party does not have a plan and he suggests they head to the darker Taur ports to gather more information. Captain Heartson speaks up again and says "If it is information you are looking for it comes at a high price in those places and is usually paid with blood or gold. If you allow me to come with you I may be able to help get the information cheaper"
Winterglade is ok with going to the dark ports as long as they don't have to sail under a pirate flag. "No worries of that my friend" the Captain says "My ship is known all over no need to hide under pirates flags"
A suggestion is made by Zeoll that the Centaurs remain below decks when they are at Minotaur ports. Flat Top takes some offense to the suggestion and states that he has never backed away from a 'friendly' fight.
Brahmah suggests that the goals are to find out who the Doctors suppliers are and stop them then go to the Island and remove him, he also suggests they can get info to help them on their quest from the WLA in Isumbre .
Captain Heartson speaks up again and says "Well now once you have all decided where you are going to go my ship can be at your disposal in a matter of days. If you don't mind though I would like to retire for the night as long as you have no more questions of me"

Gecktar
Monday October 15th, 2007 4:15:48 AM

"I agree with Zeoll that our plans are clearly defined. ut how could they be. We don't know much about this doctor and his suppliers."

"First we go to a minotaur port, and with the help of captain Heartson get some information. After that we would, or would not it depend, be able to elaborate a plan to counter doctor's schemes."

"If we don't get enough information a trip to Osto or Isumbre would have to be considered always to gather sufficient informations."

"Of course a trip to Isumbre will put us closer to architects, but we already agreed that this is not our primal goal.... And the letter could be sent or carried. But meeting in person the one that would work on the Hearthold Keep will ensure us of his real concerns. We have means pierce the truth."

"So now, if we all agree we can prepare our depart to the minotaur isle."

"Very well, then. Winterglade will stay below decks while you check out the bars. He'll make his own entertainment."

Turns his head panning the room and then back to Brahmah I am not sure why I tell you all this but if you must know you can ask around some ports about me as well, I am sure that someone must have heard of me.
As soon as asked again about buying his services he replies
Hmmmmm .a bit pressed to be some where eh well now friends ... then how about 1000 gold plus one of these tattoos you talk about and I will take you anywhere with in reason for up to 6 months is up after that we can renew under new terms. You will find no better sailor then me is assure you that my friends. Now about that bed I seam to have a major headache
With that said he calmly sits thre awaiting a reply as he watches the party fly into motion.

Flat-top who stick his head out of the Hole, will shout to Brahmah "Captain Brahmah! That Mangie Wemic Mushushi is late getting on Board! Hold the ship a few more Minutes! Or Maybe let him swin after the Ship."

Flat-top goes back to lean on the haul, smiling to himsels, tell Winterglade "Oh! how I wish I could see that Weimic swin for the ship!" then he laugh at the though>

Winterglade [2nd]
Tuesday October 16th, 2007 9:43:00 AM

Once the captain has retired Winterglade scratches his head and says: "How about we go and give the ship a look tomorrow. Then, if the sailors among us are satisfied, we seal a deal and set sail for the Minotaur Island as soon as she's ready for sea. A warship, he said. Judging from the number of the crew one would think some kind of pinnance or a sloop of war?"

[Flat-top:] "Oh! how I wish I could see that Weimic swin for the ship!"

"Yeah, and he probably would like to see you climb up a high tree."

Brahmah
Tuesday October 16th, 2007 2:54:59 PM

He looks at Zeoll, "Only if the captain agrees to two provisions. We pay him half now and the rest at the end of the 6 months. The other, the tattoo must wait also. On my Honor, the contract will be paid in full."

[Winterglade]
"Yes, the trust of one sailor of another is a code of conduct. And NO OTHER sailor should question the ship's quality EVER. A ship deserves respect always. If a loyal crew should hear anyone else from the crew question the captain's motives or whatever, that crew can exact punishment, usually putting them off the ship."

Gecktar
Tuesday October 16th, 2007 4:39:06 PM

"Don't know anything about the code of conduct of the sailors, but it seems that it is really important in their relationship."

"We will see that tomorrow..."

"Don't be afraid Glade, you will turn to be accustomed one day or another."

Half now and the remainder on the end of the contract, Aye It's a deal , he stands up on his feet. It will take my crew a day or so to make way. He holds out his hand to seal the deal.
Clearing his throat "what is our first port of call... anywhere on the Minotaur isle that you wish to start your hunt? He asks then turns toward the door and back again " Better yet think on it while I sleep and meet me at the docks in two days with the first payment. Now about that bed? It is very late."
The captain has someone from the Keep's staff show him a place to sleep.
Kael and Moshushi continue to pack their things. Flat-top decides to join them,
Winterglade and Zeoll continue their discussion.

[Gecktar:] "Don't be afraid Glade, you will turn to be accustomed one day or another."

"Eh? To ships, sailors, or being shipwrecked by a storm?"

"All right then, you do what you think is best. If you are satisfied to take that half-centaur's word for granted then who is Winterglade to argue. He certainly wouldn't know how to pick a better vessel to save his life. How much does he need to chip in to the pay anyway?"

"As for the first port of call, Winterglade has no preference. Frankly, to him all ports look the same. Way too many ships and sailors."

"Gosh Darrn it!" Zeoll shouts in sudden exasperation. He hits himself on the head, hard!

"My old masterr would beat me black and blue, and I would deserrve it! What a fool! What an ignorramus! I shame my masterrs, my dead kinsmen, and myself!"

Zeoll bangs his head on the grround, then, from the floor, looks at his brother Chosen.

"My frriends, please forrgive me. I have made the most elemental errrorr of geogrraphy. It is not Minotaurr Isle that lies on the way to Isumbrre and Osto! It is Centaurr Isle that is on the way! I cannot believe my foolishness!"

"Dumb dumb dumb!"

"Anyway, if we arre to stop at Centaurr Isle on the way, then it is surrely to Forrt Stag and then to Forrt Damostes that we should go. Those are the only two substantial centaurr porrts, and if therre is inforrmation to be had, it will be therre."

Then, most humbly, Zeoll recounts to anyone interested how Centaur Isle is near Isumbre and on the way to Osto.

Brahmah
Wednesday October 17th, 2007 1:26:09 PM

"Flat-top, you ask, your the smith."

He shakes the captains hand to seal the deal. "Half now, half at the end. We'll talk about the tattoo during the trip."

He looks at Zeoll, giggles at the self chastising, "Okay. But Zeoll, your masters aren't here and I doubt your dead kinsmen care if you think your a fool. I don't, we all make mistakes... You idiot." He smiles playfully.

"Captain, change of plans, but only slightly. Centaur Island, not Minotaur shall be the first... that okay with you?"

Done Deal
Wednesday October 17th, 2007 2:12:52 PM

Captain Heartson thinks for a moment about the offer that Brahmah has proposed then he says "That sounds like a deal I can live with" he then reaches out his hand to Brahmah with an offer to shake and seal the deal.

Meanwhile Zeoll realizes that he has made a bit of a boo boo and suggests their destination should be Centaur Isle not Minotaur Isle. "Centaur Isle or wherever you want to go is fine with me" says the Captain "My crew and ship are at your disposal for the next 6 mos. I am going to head off to bed now and get some rest. In the morning I will let my crew know what is going on and we will set sail the morning after. I will come back and get you then and lead you to my ship".

Winterglade expresses his dislike of ships and sailing all together and he states he has no preference for what port they start out with .

Flat Top is eager to get going and as he runs out of the room he calls back for anyone who needs smithing done to let him know.

My crew and I will be making some last minute arrangements before we set sail.

Capt J Heartson.

For those who choose to seek out and see the ship Highlight to display spoiler: {You see a two-masted ship that looks to have 30 oars on either side. It looks to be about 80 feet long and 20 feet wide, it has firing platforms fore and aft. The ship itself looks in exceptional shape and has been well maintained. The bow of the ship sports a carving of a little girl. The crew looks to be busy loading cargo onto the ship. They pay little attention to you as you watch them go about their business. From the size of them the rowing seems to have some benefits. Many of the crew also look like they have been in a few scraps and can take care of themselves. You can hear many off color jokes and stories being being told and you can also hear laughter as the work is being done.}

Winterglade
Thursday October 18th, 2007 5:25:49 AM

Upon hearing that the group is headed for Cenatur's Isle Winterglade's face takes on an unreadable expression.

"Centaur's Isle?..." The centaur trots away, visibly disturbed.

He spends the night working on his vestment [would like to continue crafting my Setanos's Vestments of Faith]. In the morning he visits the docks. The sight of the ship makes a deep impression, especially since Winterglade has never seen a ship of war up close before. "We are going to travel in that? Good grief, to Winterglade it looks as if it was fixing to capsize with the first large wave."

Flat-top
Thursday October 18th, 2007 7:21:09 AM

Flat-top standing next to Winterglade, will whisper "Look more of a Slave Ship, it enters the harber silently, they do their business, then leave with as many Slaves as they need!"

Then look to Winterglade, "I don't trust this captain! nope Don't Trust Him at all. And to think we let him sleep in our Home!! Nope I don't trust him at all. But a promase is a promase!"

Flat-top takes out his smithing gear, ready for work (if needed??)"'

Zeoll  d20+12=21
Thursday October 18th, 2007 9:20:46 AM

Zeoll walks with Flat-top to the ship. "You werre a marrine, rright, Flat-top? Maybe you will know some of the merrcs on Hearrtson's ship?"

Zeoll tells Flat-top that the captain is not evil. But just to make sure, the liontaur walks with the captain around the ship, asking for a tour. The seer listens carefully to the captain, and tries to figure out if he is pulling a fast one.

Sense Motive 21.

Brahmah
Thursday October 18th, 2007 11:55:37 AM

Brahmah looks for his bear first, above all else, finding him trapped near a fishing fleet by some rather upset fisherman.
"Sorry, sorry! He is a bear after all! How many did he eat? Was there significant damage done? Heyoo! Bad bear! We're taking another boat trip. Come on." [If the fisherman need compensation just let me know. ;)]

Finding the Rusty Fish Hook, Brahmah notes the carving of the girl. Knowing sailor humor, he thinks this an odd picture for The Rusty Hook. He will try to remember to ask the captain what the girl represents.

Brahmah notices Glades demeanor for the next couple hours and realizes something is amiss. He pulls the centaur aside.
"Glade, my friend, I am rather the expert on your race and have a feeling you are holding something back. Is it the ship journey? The odd human captain? Don't worry, they all seem odd at first. I work for one of the strangest ones! Your going HOME! Is there anyone there you want to see before we depart? I'm sure we can set aside a day for that." The minotaur smiles hopefully. "As it is, I've been seeking this one centaur for ages, maybe I can find him on this trip. He used to be a sailor. Can't be many centaur sailors... Flat-top is the only one besides that killer that I've met." Say Brahmah grimly.

Kael
Thursday October 18th, 2007 12:23:31 PM

Kael awakens, and sets out for the dock with the others.
"What did we offer in payment for our travel?" Kael whispered to the assembled as he eyed the bay of oars. "Cause I'm not rowing that thing to Minotaur Island."

Spell Memorization:

Gecktar
Thursday October 18th, 2007 4:36:31 PM

"Well, I think some of us will be glad to return to their home. Maybe should we take some time to meet their family if they have still."

Gecktar realizes he knows very few about Flat Top young days. So he asks "Flat Top, have yous some family you will be happy to meet on the Centaur isle. I don't know much about your past"

Moshushi
Thursday October 18th, 2007 6:29:13 PM

I think I'd like a cat. It's like having a tiny wemic who can't talk or use tools. In other words, nothing like a wemic.

Zeoll
Thursday October 18th, 2007 10:08:08 PM

The liontaur chuckles at Mosushi's comment. "I bet a lot of human mages wish they could have monkey familiarrs!"

Flat-top
Friday October 19th, 2007 8:10:24 AM

Flat-top get a far-way look in his eyes, as Gethar ask his question about his family, he answers. . .

"Yes! I have a family there, my sire (farther) "Black Hoves has pass, My Dam (Mother) is still alive. My eldest brother is the head of the Heard now, I'll be very happy to see them again, I have not seen them since I've entered the Royal Mariens."

"Alright I'm ready to smith anthing that need mending!" Flat-top eyes are misty when he talk obout his Dam (Moyher), "The fire is ready!" he waits for some work to be done, Hammer in Hand.

Brahmah
Friday October 19th, 2007 10:52:07 AM

[Kael] "Kael, slight change of plans. We are going to centaur Isle first. I offered 1000 gold, 500 now, the other half upon the completion of a 6 month contract for retainer. I will likely also be tattooing the captain." He smiles.

[Mosushi] "I saw some felines down on the fishing docks. They come off ships when they dock. Cats keep rats under control 'board ship."

Kael
Friday October 19th, 2007 11:05:11 AM

A chill runs down Kael's spine at the mention course correction. Unlike the other Chosen Kael has not had time to become comfortable with idea of peaceful coexistence with the centaurs, and the idea of sailing lazily into their territory did not sit well with him at all.

Kael attempts to draw Brahmah away from the others and whispers, "Are you sure about this? I mean there is only the three of us?"

Friday October 19th, 2007 1:25:58 PM

OOC - sorry everyone this is last nights post Jon posted it and thought it went through but it didn't, we will give everyone time to post then tonite we will post todays DM post

As the rays of the dawn sunshine reach through the sky...
Moshushi having completed the ritual to summon a familiar the previous evening notices that nothing seems different, thinking he botched the spell, he spends the morning in his room thinking ... All of a sudden he hears a noise near the wardrobe, turning to see what it is, a large spotted cat with a short, glossy coat (kinda like a mini tiger)jumps down and lands on his heavily scarred left shoulder almost scaring the poor wemic half to death.

After finding the note that the Captain has left Winterglade, Flat-top, Zeoll, Brahmah and Kael gather in the early morning light to take a look at The Rusty Fish Hook. As they leave the Keep Zeoll muses that Flat-top might just know some of these sailors. As the Chosen walk Winterglade is still visibly disturbed after hearing that Centaur Island is where they are going.
As the Chosen approach the docks they see Brahmah's large black bear Heyoo begging at the local fishmongers The fishmongers laugh off the event having enjoyed the bears company, Heyoo follows Brahmah toward the ship.
As the ship comes into view Winterglade's eyes open wide at the ballista's mounted both for and aft He also comments on the fact the thinks the ship will easily capsize. Flat-top expresses his feelings of distrust and thoughts of slavery come to mind as well while Zeoll replies that he does not get any evil feeling for the Captain.
The carving of the girl glistens in the sun and catches Brahmah's eye making the Minotaur a bit curious about its story.
Kael hopes he does not have to row, and asks what the cost to rent this tub was.
Gecktar asks about Flat-top's past to pass the time while they watch the crew load crates and boxes onto the ship and be carried into its hold.
Brahmah pulls Glade aside for a private chat asking him about what his worries are.

A large human in dark brown leather pants, and white shirt wanders towards you off the ship, on one hip a saber hangs and the other a swordbreaker. He has a darkish brown hear and a rather plain face, other than his nose is bent to the right.
I am Beybo First mate of the Hook here, (In common tongue) "You must be the passengers the captain was talking about. I am sorry the Captain is not here to greet you himself but he is away on a private matter. As you can see we are still making ready for departure, loading supplies and what not. We will have your cabins ready soon. Please can you return tomorrow I believe that all will be ready then."

Brahmah
Friday October 19th, 2007 4:16:54 PM

[Kael] "No minotaur can be sure about the centaurs. There has been much misunderstanding and hatred for each other in the past. But if anyone understands them even a little, its me. I've studied the centaur for years. They can be an enigma... but no more than any other taur." He smiles, trying to calm the newcomers worries. But it is clear that Brahmah didn't really answer the question.

[The First Mate] Looking at the man, Brahmah is calculating, almost appraising the situation. It didn't seem right. Didn't the captain say he'd see us in the morning? He shakes his head, removing the cobwebs.
Brahmah retrieves the letter left by the captain out of his pocket, looks it over, eyes the 'First Mate' and looks at the Chosen. Sensing DEEPLY something is wrong, the minotaur stows the letter, smiles at the human and begins to laugh.
"You know, this seems VERY familiar somehow. Losing a tail and an ear leaves a memory that is deeper than any scar. If life experience has taught me anything...."
He draws his swords and begins to move on the human with no concerns. He is sure this is no good.

"CHOSEN! PREPARE!" Comes the call from their Captain.
"At some point between last night and right now, the captain has gone 'missing'! MUTINY?! Is it? As a LOYAL sailor myself, I should kill you on principle! When did you kill him? I quite liked him." He says, face to to face with the man, not at all smiling at this point.

(OOC: Did Brahmah already pay the Captain?)

Winterglade
Friday October 19th, 2007 4:59:10 PM

[Flat-top:] "I don't trust this captain!"
"Come, now you are just being paranoid. But Winterglade will scan the man with Detect Evil if that will make you sleep better."

[Brahamah:] "I have a feeling you are holding something back."
"It's that obvious, eh? Well, Winterglade is not exactly holding anything back. It's just that his past has never came up in conversation. For now suffice to say that he would love to be able to return home, but if he does so now, he won't exactly be greeted with open arms, especially not by the Windwalkers. Certain matters will need to be resolved first. If we go ashore on Centaur's Island Winterglade will go incognito. As for this killer of yours - a war grudge, perchance? Maybe it's somebody Winterglade would know about?"

[Zeoll:] "I bet a lot of human mages wish they could have monkey familiarrs!"
"Maybe go with a raven, Mosushi. It can actually talk back and, in a pinch, tastes just like chicken."

In the morning, at the pier, the centaur is more than a bit surprised by the sudden change of the mood of the meeting. Nudging Flat-top, he asks quietly: "So, does he have these flashbacks often?"

Trotting over to the pair of sailors, Winterglade remarks matter-of-factly: "Captain, slow down. He might be telling the truth." Winterglade activates a Zone of Truth around him [Will save DC17]. "Now, Captain Brahmah here is greatly concerned for his fellow sailors. Could you please tell us where we can find the captain and if he is all right?"

[Winterglade] "Actually, that centaur murdered my father. They were supposed to have honorable Kayleb, and while his back was turned, the centaur stabbed him in the back. Its personal vengence."

(OOC: Glade, Brahmah has frequent flashbacks... ask him about the attack on the docks that put him into servitude 'board ship. Ask him how he lost his tail and left ear. Where those scars on his chest and forearms come from. Oh yes...
Ships don't often sit nearly as well for Brahmah as they might for wemics. :) And human sailors even less well.)

"I am honored that you would defend our captain with such passion even though you have only just met him, although I am shocked to hear that you would think I would do him harm. We are HONORABLE and LOYAL crew and such unprovoked actions, as well the insult too me, the crew and our captain does not say much for you. You question our honor when you, burst in to our home befoul our names and demand answers from us. Now if you really must know that Captain left this morning on a personal errand and is due back soon. He did not see the need to tell me his plans and I did not see reason to ask. When he return he will hear of this. Now if you wish you can remain here and wait for him or go back you your keep but I have a job too do so excuse me."

With that Beybo stocks up the ramp to the ship, ordering a couple of sailors back to work as he does.

Sunday October 21st, 2007 11:00:43 PM

Emotions at the dock of the Rusty Fish Hook are in full go as the Chosen go head to head with the first mate Beybo and the crew.

Zeoll explains to Brahmah that he thinks there is a misunderstanding between him and the human. Both Winterglade and Zeoll reassure Brahmah that the intentions of the Hooks first mate seems sincere and Zeoll recommends that the parties stand down.

During the encounter Flat-top yells to Brahmah not to worry and that he has his back. He also chooses to say a quick prayer to Domi.

Kael keeps a sharp eye on the situation and wonders about his new companions.

After listening to Zeoll and Winterglade, Brahmah decides to sheathe his kukri but keeping his falchion ready. He waves the letter from Captain Heartson in the face of the first mate and asks why they were told to meet the Captain there in the letter and he also inquires as to if the letter is written in the Captain's hand.

Beybo also calms somewhat and he signals his men to lower their weapons but not to put them away. He takes the note from Brahmah and reads it carefully. He then looks up from the note and says "Yes this is the writing of the Captain, I apologize for any concerns but I am honest when I say he is not here. He went out on an errand and will be back shortly"

As the tensions ease and the crew turn and go back to their work you can see Captain Heartson, having missed all the drama, walking towards you and there is a little girl with him Spot Check DC12Highlight to display spoiler: {the little girl with the Captain resembles the little girl in the carving, only the girl with the Captain is a little older}. The girl appears to be about 11 years old and she is gripping onto the Captains cloak really tightly. You notice that the Captain has cleaned himself up and now looks like more like the kind of Captain you would expect to see on a ship in this condition. The little girl is wearing a wine coloured dress that is not too fancy, but none to ratty either, nice enough to be respectable. She has long wavy blonde curls down her back and eyes bluer than the sea. She has the same eyes as the Captain.
Captain Heartson greets the Chosen with a smile and says "I see you have found the Hook alright what do you think of her?" he says as he gestures towards the ship. "I want to apologize for not being here to meet you but m'lady here wanted one last look at the Heartstone before we set sail." He looks down at the girl as he says this and she smiles back up at him then offers a quick shy smile to the Chosen, she is clearly afraid of their size. "I see that we are still waiting on one member of your party so why doesn't some of my crew take your things to your cabins and then we can talk on the deck while we wait. Once everyone is here I will give you a grand tour and then we will make way as soon as possible" Captain Heartson signals to his crew to come and get any gear that the Chosen wish to have stowed for the moment then he turns back and says "Oh and I believe there was a matter of payment of half up front, you can pass that along to Beybo my first mate as you board."

Meanwhile Mosushi and his new friend head down to join the others at the docks.

Spot Check 31

Zeoll wonders if he sees a family resemblance, but with non-Taurs, it is so hard to tell.

Anyway, Domi always loves those who are kind to children. Sometimes Zeoll thinks Flat-top, who loves kids most of all, is the closest of the Chosen to Domi's Heart. But Zeoll smiles too at the sight of the human girl. He crouches down and says gently, "Hello, human cub. I am Zeoll, and I hope we can be frriends. If you like, see me on the boat and I will play you a song and tell yourr forrtune."

Diplomacy 36

A little later, Zeoll remembers something he has forgotten! He needs to buy a few saps! Also some rope, and maybe hman-size manacles if he can get it. If he can do so locally, saving a trip to the Catacombs, then so much the better!

Gather Info 25 to find a local source, even at inflated prices.

Zeoll wants to get four or so, if he can. He'll pay up to five times the going rate.

Later, when he is talking just to the Chosen, he says, "When we meet the Doctorr, we will prrobably need a Dimensional Anchorr, and we will want to use these saps to knock him out. It's good to have saps in civil lands, so that no one can accuse us of drrawing blood."

The liontaur also suggests Rope Tricks to keep captives in, since you can't dim door or teleport out of one.

"Greetings Captain. You're coming at the right time. We feared that something wrong happened to you when we did not see you."

"Hopefully, we where wrong. So let's board on you vessel Captain."

Gecktar reaches the bridge and board the Hook and asks the captain "By the way, is this beautiful girl your daughter ?" Gecktar bows before the young girl "Milady, I'm pleased to meet you. My name is Gecktar and I don't eat litlle girls if you want to know..." he adds with a smile.

Coming on the board he looks at the first mate "Will you have a moment please so I could talk with you. I think some explainations are needed" he says so Brahmah could not ear.

Winterglade  d20+5=14
Monday October 22nd, 2007 5:00:04 AM

[Spot 14] The centaur is glad the situation is resolved peacefully, though he suspects the party will now have hard time earning the trust of the crew. There is nothing really he would like to part with and leave in his cabin at the moment - all his posessions fit neatly in his saddlebags - so, after casting one last mournful glance at the firm ground he's leaving behind he walks up the trap with a quiet sigh.

Later, when Brahmah is no longar waving sharp objects around, Winterglade finds him, takes out a small scrap of parchment, and does some number-crunching. "There's seven of us, so the fee of 1000 gold comes down to 143 gold per Taur. But that does not include the cost of the tattoo. How much will you have to spend on raw materials to make it?"

"By the way, Winterglade has never seen you overreact as much as you did just a moment before. Care to tell him what happened?"

Kael boards the ship.

When discussion turns to the doctor being some sort of spellcaster Kael's interest is peaked. Kael slides a brew in front of Zeoll.

"So this doctor can teleport? Tricky business. Is he a wizard of some sort?"

Brahmah
Monday October 22nd, 2007 11:29:13 AM

The minotaur looks sheepishly at the First Mate and sheathes his falchion.
Seeing the little girl, he sees and understands the ship's visage.
If she travels with us, I'll have to make sure she stays safe. A child on board is not smart... and a female ta'boot. Females on ships... yikes. Seems that the old ranger is having some misgivings after seeing the little one.

Later...
[Glade] Leaning in conspiratorially to the cleric, whispering, "Actually, the gold was the only fee clearly defined. Level of tattoo or even whether it was magical was not set. This sailor is just that, he's no pirate. A pirate would have tied up the loopholes. You get to know ALOT about someone just from their negotiation skills... or lack of."
He looks back at Glade. "Actually, just the experience that the Chosen have had on ships makes me suspicious, but my history is colored with... incidents.
I was working as a dock hand several years ago and was attacked and kidnapped, in the struggle I lost my tail and ear. A human man saved me enroute to the kidnappers ship. I owed him a Life Debt and agreed to work for him, the captain of the Nightengale. A short time later, I noticed that several of the men on board the ship were the same folks who attacked me. It had been a set up the whole time. Familiar with minotaur law, the captain trapped me into a life debt because he had 'saved me'." The ranger looks sour. "Anyway, I don't put ANYTHING past human crews, or half breeds. I have nothing truly against them, but trus is hard to cultivate after things like that."
Now looking more closely at the scars on Brahmah, they seem like defensive wounds. Glade, knowing Brahmah well enough now, knows Brahmah only backs down when in mortal danger and unarmed. Some of those scars might have even been caused by netting cutting into flesh.

He fought too well to be an arcanist. But he escaped just as fast as one."

The rest of the party continues toward the ship Gecktar starts talking to Heartson again asking if the little girl is his daughter. Giving the little girl a hug he replies "This beauty is my niece Brealla"
Winterglade is a bit slow to follow the others up the gang plank and talks quietly to Kael and Brahmah.
The Captain issues orders and the crew stops staring and goes back to work. The deck of the boat is clean and tools are within easy reach if needed.
The deck is dominated by the ballista that are mounted on the for and aft of the deck.
While the captain is overseeing the crew Brealla lets go of his cloak and slips away below decks.
Heartson then shows the Chosen below decks, he shows of the small but efficient looking galley, and the crew quarters at the bow of the ship As the Chosen walk toward the back of this deck you can see passenger cabins, 3 on each side and a larger one at the very rear. Heartson motions to the cabins on either side and says "Here is where your quarters are while you are here. The first two on either side are my first and second mates rooms the one on the end is mine" Pointing to the last door on the left he says to Brahmah." " Here is your room captain the other 3 rooms are for your men. In each room are some sea chests for your personal belongings to be safely stowed. [i](OOC you guys let us know who is all bunking together)
In each of the 3 main cabins are four beds, two on each wall, they are bolted to the wall
And hung down with chain but can easily be folded up to make more room. There is a small table in each cabin also bolted down with a bench on each side as well.
There are 4 chests for stowing equipment in each of the 3 shared rooms

The room that Heartson showed Brahmah is a bit different having only one bed and store box but a larger table and a few chairs as well.

When he shows you the cargo hold there is nothing much to see other than boxes and barrels. There is however a small room at the rear of the cargo hold that looks to be locked when asked Heartson says "That's for the non paying guests" with smile and leads you back to the cabin
"I must leave you here I am afraid but there are a few more details to attend to before we set sail in the morning. Please join myself and Brealla for dinner in my cabin tonight."

Winterglade
Tuesday October 23rd, 2007 5:27:15 AM

[Brahmah:] "He fought too well to be an arcanist."
A little smile appears on Winterglade's face as he recalls certain individual from past long gone.

The centaur counts off 143 gold pieces and hands them to Brahmah. "Here you go, Winterglade's part of the fee. You just let him know if there are any more expenses."

"Yes, promises of Char's Temper have trapped more than one Taur. Winterglade's fate is related to yours in a way, though he ended up serving much gentler master."

The centaur examines the accomodations with a critical eye. Certainly these were not meant for Taurs. Once he picks a cabin he folds up the beds. "Windwalkers lay down only to give birth or die." Still mindful of the previous journey and a shipwreck that ended it the centaur is loathe to part with any of his posessions. Fortunately everything fits nicely in his saddlebags. He will look strange parading on board in full plate, but there goes.

"Winterglade will bunk up with whomever is not snoring."

Flat-top
Tuesday October 23rd, 2007 7:29:27 AM

Flat-top follows Winterglade into the room "I Never snore!" lean against the wall. Then replies to Glades prier Question. "'See I told you Captain Brahmah. But only when he was ready, he was deeply hurt and chastised. But I only see a munitaur Friend with a heart of gold. That's why I follow his orders and stand by his side, he's one of my closes friend, So Good Dreams my Friend Glade!"

Brahmah nods in response to the dinner invitation and relieves himself of his gear in his room. He stows and locks his trunk and then casts ALARM, using his lesser rod of extend. (8 hours for AUDIBLE alarm)
He keeps his bow and swords with him, as well as scroll case though.
He stows Glades fee with his until all the gold has been collected.

"I think I'll take Zeoll and Flat-top in my cabin, unless someone has a better idea. Doesn't really matter though."

Exploring
Tuesday October 23rd, 2007 10:46:46 PM

Captain Heartson takes his leave but Beybo stays behind to make sure there is nothing else needed by the Chosen at the moment. "As paying passengers we will do what we can to look after your needs but this is also a working ship and while no one will force you a helping hand is always appreciated on ship" Beybo explains to them. "The meals you can either eat with the crew on deck or in Captain Brahmah's room at the large table whichever makes you the happiest"
Zeoll continues with his conversation about the Doctor.
Winterglade hands his portion of the fees to Brahmah. Giving a quick look to the cabins Glade determines that it is not the best accommodations for Taur. He recalls the previous trip and shipwreck and decides to keep his belongings nearby hence drawing a few odd looks from the crew members. He makes an offer to bunk with a non-snoring party member.
Following Winterglade into the cabin Flat-top declares that he is not a snorer (but is he, Glade will tell us for sure)
Accepting the invite to dinner Brahmah nods then he stores his gear, except his bow and swords which he keeps within him then locks the trunk and casts 'Alarm' on the it. He asks Beybo where the animals can stay.
"Your bear is rather large and perhaps would frighten the crew less if he was in the cargo hold, feel free to bring him up on deck as long as one of you are always with him. The cat can go where it pleases as long as it doesn't trip anyone. You are responsible for feeding and cleaning them but I will send someone to get fresh straw for a bed and any other supplies you will be needing for your animals" Beybo says with a friendly smile.
Kael inquires as to if anyone has seen the Doctor perform magic.
Gecktar says his thanks to the Captain and Beybo then decides that their accommodations are suitable. He casts a detect evil on the crew and on the deck. No evil detected.
Moshuhi declares he is not sleeping in one of the tiny beds and he suggests that they should not group by race so that they appear more united.
Beybo turns to leave but before he does he says "Feel free to explore the ship except the private and locked rooms. If you need anything simply ask any of the crew and I will come and find you at dinner time and bring you to the Captain"
As you explore the ship you see the crew hard at work doing various things, loading cargo, cleaning and polishing, counting ammo and weapons, checking ropes and sails and you also see a man with what seems to be a checklist running about and issuing orders that don't really need to be issued as things are already working smoothly. As you watch you hear the crew one by one start to break out in song working in time to their singing.

What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Early in the morning?
Way-hay, up she rises
Way-hay, up she rises
Way-hay, up she rises
Early in the morning

Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober
Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober
Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober

Way-hay, up she rises

OOC There are 4 rooms available to you, Brahmah as the leader was given the biggest one with a large meeting table and only two beds, everyone else split into twos and take the other rooms, looks like Flat-top and Glade are bunking together. The beds all fold into the wall so the mattresses can be placed on the floor putting two together for everyone.

The centaur, locked in his cabin for a moment and busy being miserable, is always ready to join in the singing. His mournful song, however, reflects his general sentiment about the sailing and the sea.

The anchor was raised and that's how it started:
The last journey of Rusty Fish Hook!..."

[Kael] "I saw him preform some magic, but am not sure whether it was divine or arcane, though, it seemed arcane."

[Chosen] Just after they get settled in, Brahmah calls the Chosen into his cabin, as it seems to be meant as a meeting hall. "I hate being separated fromt he Chosen. Anyone can stay here in this cabin with me, its really large. And feel free to stow stuff here too. I have cast alarm on my trunk that everyone can hear.
Keep an eye open for odd ships not bearing flags or carry no call signs, while your on deck. Flat-top, you know all about that.
One last thing. Spellcasters, avoid destructive spells while on board. We have retained the ship, or will retain as soon as everyone has paid their 143 gold, for quite awhile. It would be ashame to sink it."

"Oh yes, as always, me and Flat-top will help out on board as much as possible. Anyone else with related skills are urged to also chip in. Kael? How are you with knots? Oh yes, and you might want to keep your ale out of sight while here." He winks. "Unless you plan to use that as payment, which might be welcome!" He laughs.

He smiles. "Concerns? Questions? Doubts?"

Brahmah
Wednesday October 24th, 2007 11:40:04 AM

"Also, Zeoll, don't bother spending your time helping the ship. You have an assignment." He smiles. "Carouse." He winks again. "Learn everything you can. Crew member's names, history, where they are from... what books they've read, who are their heroes! Everything."

"Chosen. Avoid talking to anybody other than the captain about personal things. Don't tell them too many stories! If you can help it."

Gecktar
Wednesday October 24th, 2007 2:52:05 PM

After dropping his equipment, Gecktar catch back Beybo to have some word for him away from indicreet ears.

"I'm sorry about what happened before the arrival of your captain. Our captain is proud and will not offer regrets as to his point of view there is no need of it. He's had very bad experiences with human and has a particular hatred for them.
No hatred is not the good word, distrust would be more appropriate."

"Even if I will back my captain even at the risk of my live, the situation has proved that you were trustworthy and as such I present my excuses for what you could have taken for insults."

"I hope this will close the incident."

"Now if you can show me the kitchen staff, a cleric can be very useful on a ship. Water isn't anymore a matter and food can be preserved much longer. If it could help..."

Moshushi
Wednesday October 24th, 2007 7:10:22 PM

Moshushi is happy to take up the offer to bunk with Kael. Nothing settles his stomach quite like booze.

"No questions captain. I'll do my best to not blow up the ship. No promises though..."

Getting Settled
Wednesday October 24th, 2007 9:50:55 PM

Left to their own devices the Chosen wander the ship getting somewhat acquainted with it and its crew.

Winterglade busies himself being miserable and he adds his own words to the chorus of sailors.

"On gray early morning the port we've departed
And seaward the winds slowly us took
The anchor was raised and that's how it started:
The last journey of Rusty Fish Hook!..."

The sailors chuckle at the melancholy words of his dirge confident that the Hook with keep them safe for a long time to come.

Zeoll joins the crew in their singing as he counters Glade's gloomy melody. He then wanders the ship listening to conversation and talking with the crew and the rats in the cargo hold. He finds that while the Captain will take on almost any job he has honour and does not seem to run to smuggling or piracy. You get the sense that this crew really respects their Captain and are loyal to him. While at first it seemed that the crew were mostly comprised of mercenaries you realize that their actions and mannerisms seem to say that they are soldiers, they certainly work together better than a group of mercenaries. The crew seems to be accepting of the Taur races and they have in the past worked for Taurs but only on a few occasions. When asked of pirates the crew laughs and one says "Pirates, they see us and go running the other way". You sense that for the most part everyone is honest, the most dishonest thing going on is probably gambling. Zeoll works his way down to the cargo hold under the pretense of checking on the accommodations for Heyoo. Once down there he questions the rats and finds them in a bit of a nervous state. When he asks if they have seen anything unusual they tell him about a big bear that has come aboard and also a cat that keeps trying to eat them. The cargo the ship carries is pretty much anything and everything. They have had Taur passengers once and that is why the beds were rebuilt to fold into the wall.

Flat-top compliments the singing of Zeoll and Glade then he decides to head out and find a second breakfast. Finding the galley and the cook he wins him over and the cook supplies him with some bread and cheese to snack on.

Kael offers to bunk with Mosushi as he fondly recalls the proffered pint.

Gecktar stores his gear then catches up with Beybo. He says "I'm sorry about what happened before the arrival of your captain.

Beybo replies "Thank you for explaining and I can understand the fears of your Captain, we humans are not generally a trustworthy race but I can promise you you can trust anyone on this crew Captain Heartson handpicked us all and not one of us applied for the job we were all asked. I am also sorry that I reacted so fast without asking any questions."[/i] Beybo smiles at Gecktar then says "If you follow me I will lead you to the galley and to our cook, he usually does not want people in his galley but I am sure he can make an exception for someone who wants to help not sneak his goodies" Beybo leads Gecktar to the galley and introduces him to the cook.

Mosushi agrees to bunking with Kael and he solemnly promises to try not to blow anything up.

Once everyone has had a chance to explore Brahmah calls everyone into his cabin. He tells them that he does not like being separated from the rest of the Chosen and welcomes anyone who wants to bunk with him (OOC that is fine his room is big enough that if you haul mattresses in from one of the other rooms then there is plenty of room for three to share instead of one) he also offers to store any of the Chosen's belongings as he has cast Alarm over his chest. Brahmah reminds everyone to keep an eye out for odd ships or ships not bearing flags or call signs. He strongly recommends no destructive spells on board and suggests that everyone with even a little skill chip in and help out.

There is a knock on the door of Brahmah's cabin and then a head pokes its way through of a young boy "Mr Beybo will be coming to get you for dinner in about 20 minutes sirs" he says then quickly disappears again.

The centaur joins the company at the dinner table and makes polite conversation, but excuses himself from food and drink. One of the blessings of being able to go without food for a long time is not having to force anything down into an upset stomach.

"So, captain" - he asks after dinner - "Why Rusty Fish Hook? That sounds like an unusual name for a ship of war."

Thursday October 25th, 2007 11:45:54 AM

Before heading for dinner, the ranger stops to feed his bear.

Then goes to dinner. He will not eat and he will only drink ale from a Chosen source. (ring of sustenance) To avoid the apparent rudeness, he keeps up conversation, avoiding hot topics like personal beliefs, but refers to talking of wars, trade, and missing ships.

Gecktar
Thursday October 25th, 2007 4:34:25 PM

Gecktar meets the cook and says "Please to meet you master. I've offered Beybo to help you if you need it. I know that long trips are often difficult in the end because the food isn't as fresh as when you strat. But I have means to keep fresh food unspoiled. So what I offer you is to take as much fresh food as you can. Then I will do my office and will keep it consomable."

"I think the crew will be appreciate you talent if expressed with real food instead of gruel."

"If you want I will meet you every morning and we will proceed"

...

When time for diner has come Gecktar will join the Chosen handing Brahmah his share for the trip.

An Informal Affair
Friday October 26th, 2007 3:38:33 PM

As soon as the door closes, the chosen spend a few minute's getting ready for their dinner.
Brahmah looks more like he is dressed for war than dinner while Kael and Gecktar to spend a few minutes looking for entertainment.
Kael asks around looking for a drinking buddy but none of the sailors accept saying that the captain does not allow drinking onboard for the crew (oddly though none of them seem disgruntled about this).
Gecktar wanders over to the galley to talk to the chef offering his help in keeping things from spoiling. The cook Ox an older gentleman in his mid 30 early 40's with a slight limp when he walks. When he sees Gecktar enter the galley his eyes light up a bit and he seams open and friendly "Why certainly your may help me, a Chosen help me, I am honored beyond words, would you share a tale or to for a old man as well"
Brahmah takes this time to go and check on Heyoo , he finds that there is ample room for the bear and a bed of fresh straw is laid out for him.
Around 20 minutes later the same little boy wander around collect the Chosen. He says to you all "I am sorry my fath... Mr Beybo could not come and get you he was called to matters off the ship. I am called Rabbit and dinner is ready so if you please join the Captain in his cabin. It will be served in a few moments."
When the Chosen enter the Captain's cabin they see a large room with two doors off to the left (you assume these are the sleeping quarters) the room itself is adorned with well made but simple wooden furniture. Sitting at the table is both the Captain and his niece both dressed in finely tailored clothing. There are several high backed chairs off to the right of a massive wooden table in the middle of the room. The table itself is packed with many varieties of meats cheese and a fine red wine. At the back of the room is several large picture windows looking out at the sea behind the ship. (Currently you can see part of the docks)
While everyone is getting seated Zeoll casts detect poison on the food Highlight to display spoiler: { (nothing detected) }
Both Winterglade and Brahmah decline to eat, Winterglade claiming an upset tummy and asks about the ship. Brahmah just tries to talk to Heartson as well in hopes he does not note it that he not eating.
About this time Flat-top walks back to his cabin and comes back with an offer of salad greens to add to the meal.
The Captain accepts the offer but also says "Chosen I am sure that you have lived a hard life and that evil looms as all times but you have nothing to fear from this table and my cook maybe not the world's greatest cook but its edible I assure you"
While the adults are talking Brealla sits quietly not wanting to miss anything, she is eating from every plate on the table. Her eyes dart shyly around to the members of the Chosen but you notice a slight smile curving her lips.
Taking a bite of his meal the captain starts talking again, turning to Winterglade he says "Why the Rusty Fish Hook you ask well that is a long story my friend and some day I will have to tell it to you when we have a bit more time but for now lets just say that its named in honour of Brealla's father and my brother. It is named after the first ship that he and I went into business together with".
At the mention of her father Brealla's eyes get a little misty.

OOC thanks for your patience guys we really appreciate it, our son is fine now his fever finally broke in the wee hours of the morning. Also if everyone is able to post this weekend we will attempt to post one or two posts so we can set sail a little faster, If you can't post don't worry about it

Winterglade
Saturday October 27th, 2007 7:25:06 AM

Winterglade notices that Brahmah has been set off again. A thought passes briefly through centaur's mind that if the current streak of misadventures continues then ten years from now the minotaur won't be able to walk ten paces at port without seeing something that will trigger a nasty flashback.

The centaur manages a little apologetic smile. "Forgive us if our mannerisms come across as a little bizzare, captain. Not only had we some bad experiences in the past, each of us also lives according to the customs of our own people, which to others seem strange at times. Winterglade's tribe, for example, distrusts and shuns the sea most of the time."

"Where have your travels taken you in the past, captain, pray tell?" - asks the centaur. His interest is not fake - he is really curious exactly how salty this sea dog is.

Saturday October 27th, 2007 12:21:48 PM

Flashing a look of disapproval at Winterglade, Brahmah looks briefly at the child and then back at the captain. He then looks at the child again, realizing she's there. Unaccustomed to eating with children, he winces slightly, realizing his lack of tact.

Returning his look at the captain, he says, hopefully interrupting Glade, "...and some of us have been poisoned and or attacked by those putting on a front of kindness and generousity. This is becoming something of a habit for the Chosen and that is why I have taken to carrying weapons to dinner which I will not eat, no offense intended, but I like to keep Domi's Chosen safe. Sometimes our vigilance wanes." His gaze is not accusatory, but it is telling.

Brahmah
Monday October 29th, 2007 10:27:20 AM

Brahmah collects Flat-tops donations and adds them to the pouch which contains the fees for passage.

So far....
Gecktar... 143gp
Glade... 143gp
Brahmah... 143gp
Flat-top... 286gp (his fee and coverage for someone else)

Still unaccounted for... 285gp.

(Now there is enough gold for the first agreed half. The difference is still needed.)

Gecktar
Monday October 29th, 2007 10:55:33 AM

Earlier with the galley "Yes I wouldn't mind to tell you some tales about the Chosen, but I think that my companion Zeoll is really better than me at this. Maybe I could ask him to make some performance for the crew."

"I will tell him few words"

...

During the diner, Gecktar savours the meal. He knows the one that prepared it and he hasn't detected any evil tainted sailor on board.
"I've heard of some mariners that will be interested in some tales about the Chosen. Dear Zeoll would you mind to share some of your time with a part of the crew to entertain them ? Of course if both captain agree."

Going Somehwere???
Monday October 29th, 2007 11:41:09 PM

Mosushi decides to skip dinner and head off to bed.

Everyone is sitting at the table enjoying their dinner when Brahmah asks Captain Heartson about his brother saying "So, he's left the business has he? Where is he now? Your brother." Winterglade apologizes for Brahmah's manner and explains that they have been tricked in the past. He also explains that some of their customs may seem odd to the Captain and his crew.

Captain Heartson answers Brahmah saying "My brother you ask? My brother is dead 10 years past now. He built a grand new ship and he, his young wife and his crew were taking it on its maiden voyage when they were set upon by pirates. Finding their was nothing in the holds the pirates burned the ship in anger and my brother his wife and his crew with it. That was when Brealla here was just a baby and my wife and I have raised her ever since, now though my wife is gone and Brealla travels the seas with me."

Zeoll tastes the food and secretly signals to the others that it is ck to eat.

Brahmah explains to Captain Heartson that they have been betrayed in the past by those who appeared to be friends, that is also why he will carry his weapons with him at all times.

The Captain says "No need to explain I understand. My brother was betrayed by one of his own crew who was secretly working for a pirate, that is why ALL crew on the Rusty Fish Hook are invited after careful discussion with my first and second mates. No one can apply we don't work that way it is too easy to find scum. As far as wearing your weapons feel free just don't pick a fight with my crew" he smiles "While you are paying passengers there is no class here, you can talk to or game with whoever you want on this ship crew and passengers alike. I only have one rule, on board ship the crew does not drink as they are on duty and need a sharp eye, however you may all feel free to indulge and once in a while we do have a drink when out to sea"

Zeoll decides to talk with Brealla. She smiles shyly at the attention and whispers to him "I am 11 and I really like songs can you teach me some" She seems to gain a little more confidence with Zeoll although still shy with the other party members.

Gecktar rather enjoys his dinner and tells Zeoll that some of the seamen are interested in hearing tales of the Chosen. He asks if Zeoll will entertain them with his stories.

At the mention of the tales Captain Heartson brightens up and says "What a wonderful idea, perhaps tomorrow after we set sail and are out on the open sea then you can entertain us with some of your adventures. Who knows if they are good and keep my crew happy we may negotiate that into the price. Speaking of price we set sail in the morning so I need to have your half payment and your destination" (OOC are you heading straight to Centaur Isle sorry).

As everyone finishes their dinner they see the Captain and his niece start to clear away some of the dishes and bring them to the galley. Beybo and Gavyn also slip in to help with the clean up and soon it is all done.

The Chosen head off to their cabins to get some sleep. Flat-top running after Winterglade asking him to wait.

As you settle you see out your portholes again a red sunset and remember the saying "Red skies at night sailors delight..."

After a peaceful quiet night you awake to the shouts of orders being issued and people scrambling about. As you head up on deck you see the crew making ready to cast off and set sail as the tide is with you. Soon the ship starts moving forward and the docks slip farther and farther behind. You look in front of you to the vast open seas clean and clear and blue like a glass waiting to be etched.........

Winterglade
Tuesday October 30th, 2007 7:17:42 AM

The centaur does not sleep in the night. He spends an hour or two right after dinner with his eyes closed and arms folded on his chest, resting in the manner that is customary to his tribe. At dusk he is fully active again. First he goes out to borrow a safety lantern or a candle, then he spends the night quietly working on his project [continuing crafting the Setanos's Vestment], listening to various noises of the ship at night: splashing of waves on the sides, creaking of wood, footsteps of the night watch on deck, and mighty snoring of Flat-top.

His thoughts return every now and then to the young orphan that travels on the ship. Poor kid... How does this life under sails prepare her for one day sharing her own life with her own family? His thoughts return to his homeland, the Great Plain, and the tribe of Windwalkers, where all children are brought up together.

<Sigh>

Flat-top dreams restlessly, it seem like a lot of flash back!! A moment with the Gold Dragon, when the two Special Children made friends with. Also how he had saved them from the White Dragons. he went on dreaming of the time All the High Clerics of the three island were after the two special children. They finnaly found a safe Orfanage that they could trust. all this and more unsettling dreams.

Flat-top wakes in a real sweat, children hit a soft spot in his heart. He goes up on deck, plants hid hooves to steady himself, puts his cloak of Comfort and watches the sea in all it's beauty

The minotaur takes the 500gp to the captain. "This is the first portion, as per the contract."

"So far....
Gecktar... 143gp
Glade... 143gp
Brahmah... 143gp
Flat-top... 286gp (his fee and coverage for someone else)
Mosushi... 143gp
minus 500gp."

"Just waiting for Zeoll and Kael now."

As is his custom, Brahmah moves out to the forecastle and lets the sea greet him. The salt air is welcoming as always... yet, something...

He beds down early, glad to avoid 'grouped watch shifts' and wakes after 8 hours, just before sun up. Early morning ship duties are invigorating and the Chosen are hard pressed to find Brahmah lying about. By 10 the following morning, the minotaur is sweating and has shed his armor but not his weapons.

Having left his armor in his trunk, the minotaur again casts an extended Alarm after inventory, he returns to deck.

Gecktar
Wednesday October 31st, 2007 4:13:30 AM

Gecktar will take some rest. He usually don't need much, thanks to his ring of sustenance, but he makes an exception this time and sleeps almost four hours. Then he takes some time to meditate for the glory of Domi and spends much time in payers.

When the sun begins to rises he goes on the deck to see the dusk and closes Flat-Top.

"Beautiful day to come isn't it ? Domi knows what the next day will be. I think we will have good weather for our departure."

He pauses appreciating the silence and the sight.

Getting aquainted
Wednesday October 31st, 2007 8:38:17 AM

Winterglade gets some rest and then passes the reminder of the night continuing his work on Setan's vestment. His thoughts drift to the orphaned Brealla.

Flat-top sleeps restlessly with his dreams in the form of flashbacks.

Brahmah pays the Captain for their passage and the Captain shakes hands and thanks him.

The day is clear and sunny with just enough wind to speed them along. The crew is happy to be on the open waters again and it shows, even those who are not on duty are on deck doing various things.

Zeoll decides to seek out Brealla to teach her some songs and play. He is greeted warmly and finds that she soon opens up to him.

Your first day at see slips by rather smoothly. The seas are with you. The crew busy themselves running the ship or doing all manner of things, singing, friendly gambling, and some are even using an open area of the ships deck to practice their fighting skills. Captain Heartson seeks out Brahmah just after lunch and tells him that they can feel free to use the open area for sparring .

OOC -- there will be a second post this evening for todays post

A Song and Tale
Wednesday October 31st, 2007 10:23:38 PM

As the day passes, many of the Chosen find them self on the deck of the Rusty Fish Hook. Shortly after the noon meal Kael tracks down Brahmah and gives him his portion of the fee. As the sun starts to set the Captain issues the order for the night anchor to be dropped and sails raised. As the sun is setting Heartson retires to his cabin and a watch is set. Many of the crew retired to there quarters for supper and a bit of dice and talk. Anyone walking by hears . One of the sailors with a very base voice starts "I have a tale for ya one of a werewolf and his bride.

There once was a beautiful girl engaged to a soldier who caught the eye of an evil woodsman who had sold his soul for the ability to turn himself into a wolf at will. He lay in wait for the girl when she was walking home one day and accosted her, begging her to elope with him. The maiden refused, spurning his love and crying out to her love to save her from his advances.
The girl's cries were heard by her eager fiancé, who had come searching for her when she was late returning to her parent's home. The soldier drove the woodsman away, threatening him with dire consequences if he ever approached the maiden again. The furious woodsman lay low for a few days, waiting for his chance. It came on the girl's wedding day. She was dancing happily at her wedding reception with a group of her friends when the woodsman, in the form of a wolf, leapt upon her and dragged her away with him. The enraged bridegroom gave chase, but the wolf and his bride had disappeared into the thick forest and were not seen again. For many days, the distraught soldier and his friends, armed with silver bullets, scoured the woods, searching for the maiden and her captor. Once the soldier thought he saw the wolf and shot at it. Upon reaching the location, he found a piece of a wolf's tail lying upon the ground. But of the wolf to which it belonged there was no sign. After months of searching, his friends begged him to let the girl go and get on with living. But the soldier was half-mad with grief and refused to give up. And that very day, he found the cave where the werewolf lived. Within it lay the preserved body of his beloved wife. The girl had refused the werewolf's advances to the very end, and had died for it. After his murderous fury had died away, the werewolf had tenderly laid the body of the girl he had loved and had killed into a wooden coffin, where it would be safe from predators, and he came to visit her grave every day. Lying in wait for him, the soldier shot the werewolf several times as he entered the cavern, chasing him down until the maddened and dying werewolf leapt into the lake and disappeared from view. The soldier sat by the lake with his gun, staring into the rippling waters for hours as the catfish ate the bloody bits of the wolf that were floating on the surface of the water. When his friends found him, the soldier's mind was gone. He babbled insanely about a werewolf that had been eaten by a catfish when it leapt into the water, and he sobered only long enough to lead the men to the body of his beloved before he collapsed forevermore into insanity. He died a few days later, and was buried beside his bride in a little glen where they had planned to build there house. Their grave is long forgotten, and the place where it stands is covered with daisies in the spring. But to this day, the people of the area have a prejudice against eating catfish, though no one remember why.

Mean while as Zeoll wonders about the ship he is approached by Brealla just near the stairs ,
In one hand a tray with a glass of wine and a loaf of bead and some cheese.
She says (with almost a meek voice) I was (He starts staring at he feet) wondering if(shifting around a bit shyly) You.. might Mmmmmm
Can you listen to me sing ? Mr. Zeoll Sir.

The song echo's through the whole ship for all to hear

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Little jackie paper loved that rascal puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. oh

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow wheneer they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

While this is going on there is also a knock at Brahmah door, it's the boy called rabbit bringing the Chosen supper. He sets it on the table and walks out again leaving 2 trays on the table. One with several glasses and a pitcher of wine, the other is a small crock of a thick stew and several bows. On one of the trays is a note with Brahmah name on it

Captain Brahmah
I hope that all is well and that your accommodations are acceptable. If there is anything that I can do for you please ask.
I also want to thank you, several of your friends have been a great assistance to my crew and such help is always welcome.
I again make my deck open to you and your party for training as you expressed a need for such in your keep a few days ago.
I have made it known to the crew that they are welcome to join you if you should wish in your excess but to also give you room is it was your desire.

I would love to have a private chat at your convenience

Winterglade
Thursday November 1st, 2007 5:42:11 AM

The centaur climbs to the deck and wraps himself up tightly in his cloak. "What a wind we are having today."

Training is mentioned, but Winterglade wrinkles his nose. "At the moment Winterglade can hardly provide adequate opponents for one or two of you, let alone the whole party. Besides, summoning actual creatures to do the fighting is dangerous. Accidents can happen."

"Winterglade thinks we have two good options. First is to use illusions. There would be no real harm done to anyone, but it wouldn't be very realistic. Second, harder, would be to devise a power or device that would allow us to share a common dream, with one of us in control of it."

Flat-top still stand there watching the horizion for a glimps of Centayr Island. "HuH! Oh Yes! Sparing, I'll do that later, right now I'm enjoying the beautiful sea. Oh Who was that singing that beautiful song about that Magic Dragon? She had a beautiful voice> I'll be with you in a minute!"

Flat-top stand there watching for a glimps of Center Island and longing to see his mother one more time.

Zeoll  d20+10=24 d20+10=17
Thursday November 1st, 2007 10:55:46 AM

The bard enjoys the story and the song, adding both to his own repertoire. He praises them and clearly enjoys them, if his tail is any indication. He wonders if these entertainments have any deeper meaning or relevance. And is there really a place called "honah lee"? He combs his memory for any hints.

Bardic Lore 24 and 17

Zeoll gently tells Brealla that she does not have to call him "mister" and that she should not be shy about talking to him.

Brahmah
Thursday November 1st, 2007 11:43:28 AM

Brahmah is not enjoying the constant attention. For being a welcome guest, the captain is sure making an effort to know everything the Chosen do. He does not make his thoughts known to the other Chosen, except Zeoll and Glade.

He does respond to the captain's request. He meets with him privately, after checking on his bear.

Meeting with the Captain
Thursday November 1st, 2007 9:38:06 PM

Captain Brahmah seeks out Captain Heartson and when he does he is greeted warmly "Sorry to bother you but I wanted to make sure that everything is OK so far. I also wanted to let you know we have set course for Centaur Isle as it seems that is where you all wanted to head but if I am mistaken then let me know and we will change course" He surveys the open water and you see some dolphins jumping in the distance. "I also wanted to say that we seem to have jumped into things without really getting to know each other, perhaps over the course of our voyage we can remedy that and become friends. If there is anything you want to know ask myself or my crew same goes if there is anything any of you need.I would also like to reassure you that we do not deal in illegalities such as smuggling, I run an honest ship though it may not seem so at times but we all have parts to play." Hopefully having reassured Brahmah somewhat and maybe put his mind to ease the Captain turns back to watch the dolphins. "Beautiful creatures aren't they?"

Brahmah
Friday November 2nd, 2007 4:47:04 AM

(OOC: What race is the captain again?) Human as are all the crew

"Excuse me if I don't feel the way you do, but I have had a very interesting year, captain. Trust is hard to come by, especially where humans are concerned.
I can guarantee that not everyone is trustworthy. You, me, the Chosen, your ship... we all have our own agendas. Mine is survival and protection captain."

DM Kristel
Friday November 2nd, 2007 6:57:55 AM

The captain and his crew are all humans. The crew are larger, perhaps because of the rowing or perhaps naturally :)

Winterglade
Friday November 2nd, 2007 7:07:15 AM

In response to Brahmah's concerns the centaur scratches his head and replies: "He did not check as evil when we divined on him, but there are ways to fool scrying. Still, Winterglade thinks Gecktar also did a thorough work searching for evil among his crew and nothing came up. It would take extreme amounts of magic power to cloak evil in such a large group of men. Winterglade thinks that the most likely reason for his questions are his own concerns for his ship and crew. Try to imagine yourself in his place - you got seven seasoned adventurers on board, all armed to the teeth. You too would want to make sure you are not about to be pushed into more than you can handle, wouldn't you?"

Flat-top
Friday November 2nd, 2007 7:55:17 AM

Still standing there watching the dolphins swim in the wake of the ship, " we must be close to land, bcause the Sea Guals are flying around the Ship."

Flat-top turn around taking his Morning Star from his side(not the one from his neck, that one was given to him by Domi Himself)Swings a few times, does a few streches, then ask "we are not sparing with weapons? Are We? I though we were going to wressel! You know Hand to Hand Combat?? Are you goint to wrestle with Me First? Captain Brahmah?" he said with a grin.

Zeoll
Friday November 2nd, 2007 10:26:02 AM

Zeoll gets all his gear together and is ready to land at Centaur Isle.

Another day gone
Friday November 2nd, 2007 11:33:34 PM

Winterglade recommends against summoning creatures to spar with as unfortunate accidents can occur while Flat-top eagerly scans the horizon for signs of Centaur Island.

Zeoll explains to Brealla that she dos not have to be shy around him nor does she need to call him mister. The little girl smiles warmly and says "Thank you mis.. I mean Zeoll. I need to run to my lessons, Uncle makes sure I do them every day" she scurries off below decks with a gigantic smile on her face. Zeoll then goes and gathers his things also eager to see any sign of Centaur Isle.

Meanwhile Brahmah continues his conversation with Heartson explaining that it has been a difficult year and trust is hard to come by. He also feels that everyone has their own agendas, his is survival and protection. Capt Heartson says "I understand where you are coming from and I know that it will take time for us to earn your trust, as it should. Trust is not something to be just handed out. That is one of the reasons I wanted to speak with you, I guess we could call it my agenda so to speak" he takes a deep breath then says "I am a merchant pretty much by name only, I deal with cargo but mostly human for we are pirate hunters, however we do not kill unless we have to, we basically pick up a bounty for a pirate, seek them out, capture them and return them for justice. We sail as merchants or as smugglers whatever the situation requires."

The day once again passes without incident and as evening comes and the night anchor is lowered you notice the crew beginning to gather again. It seems that stories and songs are a nightly ritual on board. As the sailors come gather Brealla appears again true to a child's nature she is drawn by the music and the tales. She seeks out any of the Chosen that gather and sits with them.

Brahmah
Saturday November 3rd, 2007 12:41:24 AM

Shifting somewhat uncomfortable at the words 'pirate hunter', Brahmah gazes at the captain. "How long have you hunted pirates? And who of note have you captured? Ever run into an centaur sailors?"

Winterglade
Saturday November 3rd, 2007 7:33:16 AM

The centaur is on the deck, standing in the shadow of the ballista tower. He does not come too close to the gathered humans - he prefers not to intrude - but he listens with curiosity. His usual grumpy mood is gone tonight - perhaps because the seas are calm, or maybe it is the thought of seeing the Centaur Isle again that makes him forget the discomfort he is experiencing.

Finding the first mate he gently taps him on the shoulder and asks: "Exactly which port are we headed to? Have they decided yet?"

Flat-top
Saturday November 3rd, 2007 8:56:11 AM

Seeinf that no one will wrestle a center, he will put his Cape of Comfort on again. But will Yell down the hole, "Glade! Come up here! don't you want to get a glimps of Centaur Island? And if your going to br sick? you can Up-Chuck over board!"

When Flat-top goes back to the rail, he mumbles to himself "Beside, It's less of a mess to pick up!" Watching for a first glimps on the Center Island his childhood home.
