An Announcement

DM Jan
Wednesday November 7th, 2007 5:57:13 PM

So.
The group, including an utterly exhausted Bertram, and with various big cats and wolves in tow, teleport back to the newly built castle they call home.
On arrival, two things are noticable - the enormous tree is no longer there, having presumably wandered further toward Emerald City, and - the housekeeper hands over a notice that was posted just outside this morning by a wandering town crier.
"What will it mean for the Kingdom?" she asks with a worried expression.

Announcing the forthcoming wedding between His Grand Excellence, Royal Highness, Most Excellent, Saviour of the Wold, Parnoth, and Her Emminence, Joint Red Ruler of the Far Western Hemisphere, Sister of Nikoli the Magnificent, Enirul.
Rehearsals are currently taking place. Citizens have kindly volunteered their children to help prepare for this grand occasion.
Invitations are forthcoming!

And hot on the heels of that, one of the elves dashes up from the elven encampment. He gives the group a sharp bow.
"One of our rangers has spotted Mop. He's on his way here with twenty riders. He'll be here in minutes."

((OOC to Simon - yes and yes to both questions. :) ))

Lian
Wednesday November 7th, 2007 6:24:30 PM

"Well, there you have it. The 666 layers of the abyss have just frozen over."

"This is the time I think." He says to Kingrge.

"Parnoth is feeling weak. He is consolidating his power and going to be marrying an enemy of us as a defiant act. You think he was bad a few years ago, wait until he partners with Nikoli and company.

What do we know about this Enirul again? Sounds like he's planning a long and stable rule. Offspring! We can't have that.

We need a solid plan.

Maybe the Emeralds need to RSVP." The monk smiles.

Hearing of Mop's nearness, "Well, he's sending his lackey already. I don't think Parnoth is going to be needing Mop much longer."

"Whoa, Mop's upping his game. He only brought fifteen last time."

The Lian asks Kingrge, "Do we have any reason not to move on Mop here and now, on our terrain? Should we send him off before reaching Saryd? Tell him that we recognize no formal allegiance to a creature who marries into a murderous family willingly? After all, his 'brother in law' killed half the folks around here just a month or so back!"

Milo
Wednesday November 7th, 2007 6:37:21 PM

"Um... we can't attack at the wedding." Milo looks around... "It says that citizens have volunteered their children. We'd be putting them at risk. If we plan to attack it would have to be before the entire affair took place."

Brother Bertram
Wednesday November 7th, 2007 7:41:05 PM

Bertram listens to tbe news wearily. He cant imagine a more powerful Parnoth. Hopefully this time something can be done.

Lian
Wednesday November 7th, 2007 9:14:27 PM

Smiling at Milo's indignation, Lian smiles gently at the halfling. "I wouldn't intend to attack the wedding itself with everyone there. It would be pure foolishness to be party to killing the folks we seek in our deepest to protect.
No, I merely suggested responding and perchance attending as show of 'good will', to the populace. Show that we can not and should not be afraid of this new menace.
In fact, I believe Parnoth is doing this as a way to destabilize us as possible threats to his kingdom, which we are. To discredit us somehow. Even possibly a way to invite us to our own deaths. I completely expect some sort of post wedding slaying or murderous games.

If I was to set up an attack for the wedding, I would have everyone show up at the rehearsal, and then plan for no citizen to show up to the wedding. The only guests would be the Consortium.
That way, we put on a good face, bluff our way through rehearsal and at the wedding, kill the lot of scalebacks with no civilian casualties.
I suspect Nikoli will be 'giving her away' or be 'the best man', or something." He shudders at the proposition.

Athalorn
Thursday November 8th, 2007 1:52:59 AM

Back at the Tower, Athalorn races to his grove some miles away with the wolf. There he checks on its security, and ensures the wellbeing of the current Fey incumbents. He also seeks the company of Glannath, his former Eagle animal companion. The old eagle is becoming more tired these days. He only seems to sleep.

--------------

He then returns to the tower to see what the Dragons have decided, and to meet with Mop.

Olana (Subbed by Carl)
Thursday November 8th, 2007 7:22:58 AM

The elf examines the notice, a frown deepening on her face as she reads.

"What will it mean?" she scowls at the housekeeper. "It will mean tyranny beyond anything the Emerald Kingdom has experienced to date. It could concievably destabilize the entire region. It cannot be allowed."

She turns on her heel and scans the surrounding countryside, searching for Mop and his companions.

Lian
Thursday November 8th, 2007 11:32:46 AM

"I say we take Mop and his henchmen now. It removes them from the problem and takes away a powerful minion from the dragons. I'm not saying kill him. Maybe we can place Mop in doubt of the alliance and his future role with Ol' Greenie."

Milo
Thursday November 8th, 2007 5:42:09 PM

Milo stares ahead straight forward, "I say that we kill Mop and company... sends a message it does." The halfling looks somewhat grim.

Ingrge
Thursday November 8th, 2007 7:34:20 PM

Well well well, It seems that Parnoth is sending his official reprimand since we spanked his bride to be. Let's be quick and decisive about dealing with Mop and then make some plans for our three scaly friends.

Ladies and gentlemen shall we set up a quick welcoming party for him?

Milo, Lian can you get a squad or two of elven bowmen positioned on either side of the road and out of sight.

Olanna, Gunther can you get your cats and circle up behind of visitors? Use the ring if you need to.

Athalorn do you think you have anything available that might make the plants in the area take a disliking to either our visitors or their horses.

Bertram How do you feel about being a giant for a bit? If he afirms Ingrge will polymorph Bertram into a Stone giant.

And I think I need to be a bit more forbidding myself. and suddenly Ingrge is 10 feet tall and looking down at things from a different vantage point.

DM Jan
Thursday November 8th, 2007 8:11:12 PM

Athalorn returns to the group as they get ready for the arrival of Mop.
The elves are only too eager to take up weapons, and just need to be given directions.
Olana sees one solitary rider at this point in the distance, who appears to be carrying a stick with a white handkerchief attached to it.
There are sounds of hoofbeats coming from further back down the trail and in his taller guise, Ingrge can see riders kicking up the dust. Preparations must be made swiftly.

Gunther
Thursday November 8th, 2007 9:42:56 PM

The cat trainer nods at Ingrge's order and quickly moves his cats around to guard the visitors. He watches anxiously for any signs of trouble. He remembers his last encounter with this lousy Mop fellow and is more than ready to even up the score.

OOC: Gunther would like to visit Borden, but only in Ingrge agrees to it.

Brother Bertram
Thursday November 8th, 2007 10:04:34 PM

Bertram nods to Ingrge in agreement. It would be nice to be the one looking down on everyone for a change.

Athalorn
Friday November 9th, 2007 1:43:05 AM

The druid sees Milo's dour expression. Unused to seeing the halfling like this, he doesn't expect Mop to be an easy scalp to take.

Athalorn nods to Ingrge, and then moves down to the path leading up to the Tower, along which the riders travel. He waits until the riders are very close before muttering a few words to himself, and gesturing to the plants in the area. Behind the riders, roots and branches burst into life, spreading across the path. Vines reach with sudden energy across the trail; leaves, ivy and creepers from the wooded edges of the path wrap around the roots and branches into a thick barrier.

------------------

ooc: Plant Growth. If all this is impossible, please disregard action. Athalorn is trying to block the path behind the riders with vegetation from the forest, if indeed the path leads through forest.

Olana (Subbed by Carl)
Friday November 9th, 2007 6:13:56 AM

"As you wish" the elf nods. "But it seems as if our friend approaches alone, and under a flag of truce." She points out the distant figure. "We are not going to be able to simply attack."

She heads out, circling around in the opposite direction to Gunther.

Lian (AC 35+1, Hps 94)
Friday November 9th, 2007 12:49:47 PM

[Olana]"At one time I would have agreed with you Olana, but these are desperate times. And I doubt that Nikoli gave the victims here as much consideration. Besides, this is Mop we're talking about. I doubt he left his 'master' without some form of escape planned."

[Ingrge]"Hey boss, I suggest you bind Mop to this spot so he can't flee."

[Milo] He grasps the halfling's hand and smiles. "Been nice working with you. I'll take the left, you go right with your crew."

The elf is soon guiding the elves to position in the tree tops. If need be, using his flying carpet to speed up the process.
He retrieves a scroll and waits.

Dodge versus Mop.

He takes up a position furthest from the castle walls, elves between him and the castle.

Brother Bertram
Friday November 9th, 2007 9:35:12 PM

Bertram waits in the center of the clearing to see what Mop has to say. The priest has no intention of attacking under a flag of truce, but after that.....

Lian
Sunday November 11th, 2007 11:26:59 AM

Flag of truce... a sign of 'good will' or a momentary pacification.

Milo  d20+27=39 d20+25=36
Sunday November 11th, 2007 10:34:06 PM

Milo smiles momentarily at Lian, then speaking to nobody in particular, "How many flags of truce... or other such cries for mercy were ignored when the reds attacked..." Milo looks around, "Flag of truce my eye... Parnoth and his like need to learn that they cannot simply forestall judgement by using human conventions one moment, and then ignoring them the next. Mop needs to go now." That said, Milo disappears into the shadows, moving fast to muster a band of elf archers.

(OOC: Hide DC 39, Move Silently DC 36)

Olana (Subbed by Carl)
Monday November 12th, 2007 5:10:14 AM

The elf shakes her head vehemently at Lian and Milo's words before she departs.

"Desperate times and amoral foes should not dislodge our own sense of right and wrong; they should strengthen them. We are Dragons, and we stand for good and order in the Wold. If we abandon the principles of honour simply because our task is hard or our foe is evil, who will stand for those principles in our place?

We have a responsibility to uphold certain standards of behaviour, those same standards that separate us from our foes. We must not allow expediency to cause us to stoop to their level, lest we become indistinguishable from those we fight."

Monday November 12th, 2007 9:24:56 AM

Lian continues to wait with his crew of archers. Whispering he says to them, "Regardless what happens, focus all your energy on Mop when the signal is given."

A scroll still in hand, the hand of Domi prepares for the moment he's been waiting for for years, Mop's farewell.

DM Jan
Monday November 12th, 2007 1:04:14 PM

(All positions noted.)

There is nothing better to inform you of your expendabilty, than being sent ahead of the line into hostile territory bearing a white flag. Even the horse is spooked, and rightly so. Sweat is starting to bead and trickle down the back of the guard's neck, where the hard edge of his armour is beginning to chafe.

Why him, for Warrd's sake? Why not one of the other, drunken wretches, who are probably still too drunk to care? Why does it have to be him, stuck out there in front with all those rebels, renegades and evil elves hiding in the bushes? He can't see anything, but his horse is jittery, so of course they're hiding in the bushes. Or are they? Warrd knew and he wasn't here right now, that was for sure.

And who is that stood out on the path? One of those weird forest men. Was it one of them? And who are those giant men, ahead? More of them. And a noise, what is that? Like branches cracking and snapping. Oh great... now we're trapped.
Okay, well, I've got the white flag, you miscreants. I'm standing here, I don't have a weapon in my hand. Take me, and may Marteaus take you all. (I wonder if I can use this flag pole as a spear, if it came down to it?)

With a barrier of vines and branches rising to the rear, one of the guards (all of whom are on horseback) alongside Mop calls "Halt"
Except for the guy out front, weapons come out and glisten in the filtered light through the trees. They close up, surrounding the diminutive dragon's right hand man.

"We come in peace!" squeaks Mop, hunkering down amongst his men, his voice failing miserably to sound authoritative. "With a formal invitation!"
"And to talk!" he adds after a slight pause.

Athalorn
Monday November 12th, 2007 1:22:52 PM

The druid keeps the large wolf from rushing into fight with a gentle hand on her shoulders. Watching the men surround Mop with a smile, he waits for the others to do the talking. Diplomacy was not his strength; he usually ended up saying the wrong thing and getting into trouble. The ancient words of an Entangle spell are whispered on his lips, ready to cast the spell should it be needed.

Ingrge
Monday November 12th, 2007 3:56:33 PM

Staff in hand, the larger than life Ingrge, along with his fire Giant Dwarf step forward chuckling as Mop gets himself surrounded and then speaks.

"Why the flag of treaty Mop? Are we at war? Oh yes, that's right. You and your master have alighned themselves with that renegade red, Nikolai; who unprovoked, assailed our home and killed innocents whom were under our protection and then stole our belongings."

"Ahh That must be it then. So I guess that as you are the synchophant of our enemies ally, you have decided we are at war."

"Well, as that seems to be the case whether we want it our not, you have forced my hand. You and your men just became semi-permanent guests of Emerald Castle."

Signaling those surrounding the small party to step forward, Ingrge continues.

"Please lay aside all weapons, dismount and walk forward into the castle, where we can then show you your quarters and have that "talk" you say we should have. And Mop, while it may have been formed as a request, rest assured that it is not and that if I see one single weapon adorning even one of your men, or any move is made by any one of them or you, that could be judged as offensive in any manner, you will all be destroyed on the spot, no mercy given, flag of truce or no flag of truce."

Olana (subbed by Carl)
Monday November 12th, 2007 4:11:10 PM

Hidden in the undergrowth, the high elf smiles to herself as she notches an arrow. Despite his protestations, there is more than a touch of the regal about their leader.

She lies in wait, hidden from view, and waits to see what will transpire.

Lian (AC 35+1, Hps 94)
Monday November 12th, 2007 7:12:51 PM

The monk silently signals his contingent to knock and load.

He shifts slightly to get a clearer view.

For Domi's sake Ingrge, don't give them choices! Thinks the elf. He rolls his pale green eyes and waits for their commander to signal something.

Brother Bertram
Monday November 12th, 2007 7:14:04 PM

Bertram enjoys watching Mop squirm but will still defend the foul creature before letting him be murdered under a flag of truce.

Milo
Monday November 12th, 2007 9:13:43 PM

Gritting his teeth, Milo waits and watches in hiding, praying that Mop or his men do something extremely stupid.

Lian
Tuesday November 13th, 2007 7:11:45 AM

The monk can't help but think something will go wrong, what, he doesn't know, but something...

DM Jan
Tuesday November 13th, 2007 3:14:58 PM

Ingrge's voice rings out along the path.
There's a pause, during which both Milo's and Lian's group of elves glance toward them, waiting. Waiting to let loose their arrows. The horse carrying the rider with the flag bucks slightly, whickering and rolling its eyes at Athalorn's wolf, cranking up the tension even further. Bowstrings are pulled even more taut.

"Oh, do what he says!" announces Mop, miserably.

Blades slowly sink back into scabbards, eyes anxiously move left and right, and saddles creak as the whole contingent dismounts.

"Vith," mutters one of the elves on Lian's team.

The guard in front keeps his white standard aloft as they move toward the castle, on foot, leading their mounts.

Athalorn
Tuesday November 13th, 2007 3:36:06 PM

Athalorn and the wolf stay where they are, watching Mop and his contingent of guards as they near the Tower. Ingrge would indicate the next course of action, he was sure. As the guards close on Ingrge, Athalorn and the wolf move onto the path, behind the horses.

Brother Bertram
Tuesday November 13th, 2007 7:04:45 PM

Bertram stands in the clearing with his axe in his hands. He kept a mocking, arrogant smile upon his lips. No need to let Mop's guards relax even for a moment.

Milo
Tuesday November 13th, 2007 11:33:45 PM

Milo motions for the elves to stay their hand for the moment, though he immediately follows with a familiar gesture toward his own eyes, indicating they should stay alert.

Ingrge
Tuesday November 13th, 2007 11:39:43 PM

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please collect all weapons and then escort our guests into our abode. Take care of their horses and show Mop's men to the empty barracks. See that they are given food and drink, but do not converse with or answer any questions they might ask. Post an armed squad outside the door for their protection."

"Mop if you will accompany us to our sitting room, we will have some refeshments served and we can all have our little conversation and decide under what terms we will let Parnoth have you back."

Olana (Subbed by Carl)
Wednesday November 14th, 2007 5:12:52 AM

Olana's eyes narrow; after all the problems Mop has caused them in the past she suspects a trick of some sort. But no duplicity appears to be forthcoming; it seems that for once Mop is on the level.

Still, she remains alert, following Mop and ensuring he has an arrow trained on the small of his back at all times.

Lian
Wednesday November 14th, 2007 2:07:28 PM

The monk and elves move in behind, trapping Mop's crew.

Some elves split off to take the horses, and Lian instructs one of them, as soon as they are in the stable, to look through the bags and collect anything dodgy... plans, maps, personal love letters, laundry list, anything.

"Ingrge..." He whispers in Sylvan. "Can't you trap his minions in an antimagic field or wall of force while they are here? I also suggest manacles, a force field and dimensional anchor on Mop while he's our guest. Guard them with elementals."

Lian sends for Brusse, the tower ghost.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday November 14th, 2007 4:03:30 PM

Bertram, not in the mood for Mop at the moment ambles down with Mop's patrol. He is suprisingly gracious and sees to thier comfort, even if only in barracks. He will not discuss the current political situation if asked but instead spends the time sharing stories of his dwarven home. Usually humorous and usually ending with someone high in command looking ridiculous. Mop's guards can relate to this and are soon timidly telling stories they know of mishaps involving military leaders.
Bertram laughs with the others as they eat and catches one of the men looking at him oddly and realizes he has seen his Symbol of Domi as well as the Mark of Gargul upon his hand. "Ahh you are confused by what you see no doubt? Well I will briefly tell you why my comrades for the evening. Bertram tells the tale of how he became indebted to Gargul. He tells it simply, without grandarizing his part. When it is over the men are sitting there staring, Bertram smiles. "So you see my friends, if the Gods can make use of a hateful Dwarf...Imagine what good can be wrought with a group of young warriors?" He smiles again then goes back to eating waiting for the next soldier to tell a tale.

DM Jan
Wednesday November 14th, 2007 5:43:09 PM

The guards give up their weaponry reluctantly, but at the end of the day offer no resistence. Their mood seems to be grim, although not as bad as perhaps it should be, suggesting there is something greater to worry about than being placed under guard by the Emerald Dragons.

The horses are stabled; there'll be stew, and ale, and fresh bread for the 'guests'. Milo's and Lian's elves are all over it like a rash - some standing guard, some going through panniers, others stacking and inventoring the apprehended weapons. There's nothing unusual in any of the packs - coins, rations, a few religious talismens for various gods.

"Is that necessary?" grumbles Mop, glaring at Olana, as he's taken inside. Once there, he takes out a gilt edged, folded parchment and slides it carefully across the table to the Dragons, looking all the while like it's about to jump up and bite him on the nose.

The parchment is the official invitation to the wedding. The date - three days hence. The venue - the palace in Emerald City.

Mop stares at the thing, his left eye twitching uncontrollably, then looks around at those assembled.
"I think we have a mutual problem," he says.

Brusse's etheral shape drifts alongside Lian.

Over at the barracks, despite, or maybe because of Bertram's efforts to break the ice, all talk is focussed on Parnoth and the upcoming nupitals. The guards are afraid, and discussions are ranging from worries about dragons, red dragons in particular, the fact that there isn't just one but possibly two new dragons about to set up residence in the Emerald Kingdom, Parnoth's state of mind, is he off his rocker, could the reds kill him, what happens then, what about Izen, what about their families, their kids, and on it goes.
"Perhaps we'd better shut up," one of them says to the others, glancing toward Bertram.
"To heck with that," says another. "What are we going to do?" He stabs a finger toward the dwarven cleric. "What are YOU going to do? Parnoth's lost his mind!"

Ingrge
Wednesday November 14th, 2007 6:29:54 PM

Giving an imperceptible nod to Lian's comments, and then comments back in sylvan through the ring.

"Our two gates are closed, they are unarmed and fully guarded, I can clamp down if necessary, right now I want to give them a chance and perhaps see if we can add them to our duty rosters. You know they can't want to be working for Parnoth. As for Mop, I hope he tries something, for I am looking for an excuse but I am not willing to totally smash a flag of truce."

Once inside and seated Ingrge makes sure refreshments are prepared and served and then looks over at Mop as he pushes the invitation across the table. The still 10 foot tall elder elf lifts an eyebrow at Mop's comment.

Without picking it up Ingrge looks down at Mop and asks.

"So, whose idea is this wedding anyway?" I can't imagine it was Parnoth's. And if not, what does Nickoli have that is a big enough threat to Parnoth?"

Milo
Wednesday November 14th, 2007 7:17:08 PM

Milo stands nearby, a look of grim concentration on his face. The halfling pays specific attention to Mop, looking for any possible deceptions he might pose. Not trusting his own tongue to diplomacy, he chooses not to say a word, but to wait and listen only.

Gunther
Wednesday November 14th, 2007 11:51:33 PM

The warrior grunts his displeasure at the recent turn of events. Bad enough he's not even allowed to kill Mop...then Ingrge's speaking elvish through the ring. Gunther sighs as he heads off toward the cat enclosure. If ever he needed time with Theari it was now...especially with K'nara gone.

As he goes about his training routine with the panther and then the dire lion, the warrior runs the day's events through his head. After a few brief moments of concentration on the matters he rubs his temples. No, the heavy thinking was best left to the brains of the group. When they need a sword then they'll call on me.

Athalorn
Thursday November 15th, 2007 1:31:42 AM

Leaving the wolf outside to watch the path for further visitors, Athalorn heads inside with the others. Listening carefully, he lets the others do the talking, anxious to move for the fight against Parnoth.

Olana (Subbed by Carl)
Thursday November 15th, 2007 4:57:28 AM

The high elf allows herself a grim smile when Mop speaks to her.

"Necessary? That remains to be seen. But the fact that it causes you discomfort is reason enough, I'd say."

She listens to the discussions over the upcoming wedding. "A mutual problem, Mop? How do you propose to solve this problem then?"

Brother Bertram
Thursday November 15th, 2007 12:09:29 PM

Bertram raises his hands in mock surrender, "Ta Havath, peace brothers! I am just one of a group here. I am in complete agreement that Parnoth must be stopped. But then this group has felt that way for years. Unlike some others..." He lets the sentence hang as he looks at each of them. Then he smiles, "But enough of blame and excuses my new friends. I guarantee that the others are even now preparing a plan to either stop Parnoth or take him out entirely. We have tolerated Parnoth too long and that may soon change, not to mention that clan of Reds. Your question must be this. Are you going back to work for him Friends? You seem like good men at heart who have made some bad choices, or had no choices, but now you do. "Where will you stand?" Bertram looks at them mildly, trying to keep the anxiety off his face as he listens to them.

Lian  d20+3=9 d20+12=21
Thursday November 15th, 2007 4:44:51 PM

The monk advises Brusse to trail Mop the ENTIRE time he is staying here and to report anything beyond 'normal activity' to any Emerald available.
He whispers to the ghost, "The fact that Parnoth's top lackey is here and came willingly is highly unusual. He usually puts up a fight. If you need to, drain some of his energy to subdue him or moan at him or something." The elf smiles.

Returning to the elves, Lian says, "Inventory it, and store it, but do NOT take anything and put anything magical or valuable under lock and key in tower."
He turns to one of the elves handling the horses, "Make sure their mounts are comfortable and healthy before letting them mix with the Castle's stock."
He takes a minute to look at the holy talismans and counts them. (Knowledge religion 9) The hand of Domi will take the symbols to Bertram for identification.

While talking over the Reds, Lian listens intently, then pipes up.
"Off his rocker! You JUST noticed? He's always been unstable, an apt target for mind control and coercion. You idiots.
And Mop, just to let you know, I was all for killing you and your men outright. Its still a possibility. You chose wisely... for the time being."
"So, this merry band of fools would be....? What, a rebellion? An uprising? I suggest you spill it, Mop. Your in no fit place to lie."

Lian sits next to Milo, who is staring holes in Mop, and Lian thinks this is a great idea too. He will do the same.
(Sense Motive 21)

DM Jan
Thursday November 15th, 2007 6:00:16 PM

Gunther finds his big cats to be a litle restive and on edge, which may account for the visitors and/or the fact that there's a large dire wolf sat outside the entrance to the main building.

Inside, faced as he is by Milo, Lian, Athalorn, Olana and a giant Ingrge, Mop appears to be behaving in a similar manner to Gunther's felines. He's restless, on edge, anxious, which is to be expected. He also appears fearful - moisture on his forehead, eyes darting about, and his usual bluster is making a poor showing. Answering Ingrge's and Olana's questions he comes across as petulant and sulky.

"I'm assuming the wedding is Parnoth's idea," he says. "I've never even heard of this Nikoli until recently, or this Enirul. Everything was perfect until they came along."
He frowns at the invitation. "Although, I must admit..." He looks at the group, drawing himself up and puffing out his chest. "Be mindful this is classified information. I should keep it all to myself but - his Excellency went on a mission with the Platinum Dragons, you know, to Osto. It was him that saved everyone. Everyone. Even you people."
He takes out a handkerchief and blows his nose, which in turn deflates his bluster.
"But, he's been acting strangely ever since he got back. Very strangely. I used to know what to expect. I used to know his moods, but now.... And that Enirul, she'll eat us all. I've caught her looking at me more than once, licking her lips. It isn't very nice, let me tell you. And, and.... I just don't know what to do... you ask me what I intend to do - " he spreads his hands, " - I just don't know any more".

Over at the barracks, 'tween Bert and the guards -
Where will you stand?

The guards look uneasy.
"Now that isn't an easy question to answer, is it," one of them ventures. "As we see it - right now we're on our own. You have to understand, that big old green bugger isn't the most pleasant ruler, and he taxes us hard, but he also keeps us safe, too. And we get paid - enough to look after our families."
"Yeah!" pipes up another. "And he keeps us safe from this forest, holds its madness at bay from the city. Do you know how many kids we've lost over the years, who've wandered in there, never to come out?"
"Elves eat 'em."
"Shhh, we don't know that."
"I'm telling you, they - "
All is quiet as Lian arrives and tells them what's on his mind.
After he's gone -
"See? Told you. And there's trees walking about."
A period of dire murmuring occurs, and then -
"Oh, yeah, and what about Izen? The orcs were supposed to be scattered. Southern guards have seen mounted patrols. Mounted. Patrols. Of orcs. What does that mean?"

One of the older guards tells the others to be quiet.
"I think, what we're trying to say, is that if Parnoth had his sanity - we'd be for Parnoth. But right now, he doesn't appear to be in his right mind at all. Understand, what you're talking about is regicide. The killing of our ruler, right? That doesn't exactly sit easy on our plates, either. I think if we're for anything, we're for what's best for the Kingdom and our families. Right lads?"
"Right!" come multiple replies.
"Maybe that's a question we should be asking you. Where to the Emerald Dragons stand? Eh?"
"Cannibal elf lovers," someone mutters.

Milo
Thursday November 15th, 2007 6:46:44 PM

Milo looks around at his friends, and without thinking blurts out what he feels to be obvious, "I'm not wise in the way of wizards... but you think the green meanie is being influenced by magic?"

Lian
Thursday November 15th, 2007 6:59:25 PM

Lian is skeptical. "Heh, right, saved the Plats!? Aren't they retiring? Where were they to get into trouble?"

Ingrge, in private. Highlight to display spoiler: {"I can't even tell you how fundamentally wrong this seems! First, the Green One gives us this orb which, what, can scry or be scried on and now, his little patsy is here, in prime position to spy. I suggest we keep a reign on them all.
I suggest a Zone of Truth Ingrge.
I'm not about to jump on the 'Parnoth is getting married so everything is hunky-dory band wagon', without SERIOUS proof he has changed, not just speculation and stories about saving well known adventurers and friends."
}

"Mop, why did the Green Slimy One go on this mission? What was in it for him? What would the Dragons have accomplished when they succeeded?"

Brother Bertram
Thursday November 15th, 2007 9:03:54 PM

Bertram listens intently to the guards protests. "Ahh Friends I totally agree that the wold is changing faster than any of us would like. And as to the safety of our families, Nothing is more important the safety of the gods most precious gift, children. But sometimes safety and security can be very expensive indeed. I am not suggesting that you mean pack your bags and move in here. Frankly a quick chat over supper isnt the way we pick warriors. And why would you follow me for the same flimsy reasons? I merely point out that our safety and security our paid for with our free will and pride in our own accomplishments. I fear the kind or world we are safely handing our children. All I ask is you consider this if it comes to war.
Now as to the 'cannibal elf lovers'...
Bertram stands and quicks rips loose the haft of his axe and with whirl slams the blade into the middle of the table. Crockery and mugs scatter as the table reverberates from the blow. Bertram's eyes blaze as "You men may be the best men to ever carry sword but I will hear no more talk about the elves. Every elf that has come here has wanted two things, A home and peice of land to raise thier families. They are sold as cattle in the streets of the city, so they flee back to thier forests, then they are persecuted for being different and being offstandish and hiding here. I guess they just want safety and security for thier families. Sound familiar? Everyone must realize they cant have it both ways. I know I cant make you realize that with just my say so either. If you are here any time at all. Just watch them, watch thier children, take away the different dress and thier looks and tell me they arent just like each of us. Just trying to find a place to call thier own." Bertram slumps back into his chair wearily. He jerks the axe out of the table and tosses it carelessly into the corner of the room. "I am sorry my friends. I prove a poor host for the evening. I tried to come here so that my temper would keep me from causing problems between our leaders and now I have done it anyway. Bertram quickly rises and repours each man a drink, replacing mugs as needed by his outburst. As he serves them, with thier permission he prays a blessing over each man. Now my friends talk freely. I will try to be just another companion for the evening and not an easily angered dwarf. Bertram raises his glass to each of the men and takes a healthy quaff.

Friday November 16th, 2007 1:41:40 AM

The druid scoffs at the idea of Parnoth saving them, his temper getting the better of him. "Saving us? Did he keep the elves of this tower safe? The elves we had given sanctuary when Nikolai the Red slaughtered them? Does he keep the creatures and elves of the forest safe? DOES HE? No, it it time the Emerald Kingdom had a new ruler." The druid stands at this, his strong fist crashing onto the table.

Lian
Friday November 16th, 2007 7:22:01 AM

The monk smiles at Athalorn's crashing fist. "I'll have to show you the RIGHT way to break a table later Ath."

Gunther
Friday November 16th, 2007 8:14:05 AM

The warrior does his best to calm his kitties, but it isn't easy to do. Obviously this isn't a good time to start training, so Gunther rummages around in some of his stuff and finds...something...something that he almost forgot about. A grin spreading across his face he lovingly rubs his hands over the hide. Gotta go get a smith for this...the sooner the better the way things are looking now.

Olana (Subbed by Carl)
Friday November 16th, 2007 8:42:54 AM

The elf runs a hand through her hair as she ponders Mop's words. Much as she hates to admit it, she believes him.

"I think you might be on to something, Milo. Something is amiss here. The more I hear of this the more I'm starting to think that our immediate target should be red, not green.

Don't mistake me; I hold Parnoth responsible for a great many things, and intend to see him answer for them. But it seems to me that the immediate danger that the Kingdom faces lies with Nikoli and Enirul."

Lian
Friday November 16th, 2007 1:31:09 PM

The monk looks torn. He wants to believe there is some underlying scheme, some plan, that the Green One is hatching and Mop is somehow involved.
However, more sense is being made with every word Mop utters.

"Okay, okay, say Mop is right. Say Parnoth is off his nut. If we rid the Kingdom of this NEW threat, we still have a potential old one, Parnoth.
Additionally, we have Mop now. He's not exactly innocent. He made his choice to act on behalf of Parnoth.
Mop also made his choice to take the first step, to come here, to tell us Parnoth is acting odd.
By law, he betrayed his King by telling us this secret information and should be placed under arrest and imprisoned."

"If Parnoth is allied with Nikoli and Enirul, then, until he is cured of whatever affect, be it natural or magical, he is now an enemy of the Kingdom itself.
Like it or not, Parnoth is an enemy of the state.
I'm citing his allegence with murderers of his own people, his royal charges! Slaves or not!

However, he has to marry to solidify the agreement and then the betrayal is complete and then we can move on him... not killing him..." The elf sighs. "...but attempt an arrest. Pulling him out of harm's way, placing him under protection of the Consortium and then moving on the new Queen and Nikoli."

"As a safety measure, and against my better judgement, we should also arrest and thereby protect Mop."

"But there is a potentially problematic fact that, with Parnoth 'missing', Enirul is Queen. This leaves Nikoli TECHNICALLY the next MALE heir. Which, in and of itself, is a problem. He kills his sister, he has himself a Kingdom without doing any real work."

Athalorn
Friday November 16th, 2007 2:13:43 PM

Athalorn almost laughs at Lian's joke.

"Friend Lian, I will never be good at breaking tables. I can mend them though, which is why you and I make such a good team! And so we must choose. Which Dragon do we attack first? Nikolia is directly responsible for the death of many. A murderer. In what way is Parnoth better? We must make a decision, and soon."

Lian
Friday November 16th, 2007 3:47:42 PM

"The entire Consortium should be with us when we decide. Its not right to make a decision about something potentially Wold shaking without first holding a council.

Perhaps now is a time to recruit another group of adventurers?"

Ingrge
Friday November 16th, 2007 4:51:08 PM

Lifting a shoulder to Lian's request as if to say that is not something that he has at his disposal, Ingrge listens to Mop and the others without saying anything for a while and then looks around at everyone.

Lian, you are right about contacting the consortium, or at least we should have Sturtevant's council, and perhaps Maab's but I am afraid that any dealing with it is likely to be done by us alone. I expect that we will need to either subdue or imprison Parnoth somehow if we are not going to be facing all three dragons.

Enirul is not queen yet as they have not been officially married yet. Right MOP? So if we move in the next three days we can do so without totally upsetting the lines of inheritence too much. As for Nickoli, well perhaps he has outlived any possible usefullness to the Wold.

Lian
Sunday November 18th, 2007 10:53:03 AM

Having said his peace, Lian sits back down and returns his piercing gaze to Mop.

Leaning over to Milo, the monk says, "Really is too bad he cooperated." He smirks.

DM Jan
Sunday November 18th, 2007 11:25:54 PM

A tall, middle aged man with glittering green eyes stands amidst the carnage, looking somewhat bewildered. How had it come to this, he wonders, as he breathes in the smoke curling upward from the blackened husks of five men.

He reaches down and snaps off a protruding bone from an exposed ribcage. Ah, cooked to perfection. The smell is making him hungry, and for a while he gnaws idly on the thin strip of meat coating one side of the bone. The conducted heat coming from the still smoking snack doesn't bother him in the slightest.

Some dark tendril of thought silences his questions, allows him to concentrate on the meal, and gives him rise to consider other worries. Like those who would strike him down. He looks at the thin sliver of bone and smiles. Not a worry at all, really.

There is a noise outside, frightened human chattering, and the tendril withdraws. He looks up, blinking at the clouds overhead. It takes a moment to remember where he is.
Osto.
Suddenly the sight of the dead becomes distasteful and he throws the bone down. A notion arrives in his mind, telling him that this was a rash move, and not like him. This was supposed to be a meeting about quotas. Threats were usually more than enough. This...

He shifts, flexing shoulders that rapidly take on heavy muscle and glittering scales. One push and he's airborne, beating powerful wings and circling the dull grey city of Osto. He gains height, just as it begins to rain, and heads off in a south easterly direction. And the closer he gets to home, the more other thoughts rise to the surface. Enuril...

A snort of disgust makes him lose altitude for a second. Have I gone mad, he wonders, beating powerful, elegant wings, pushing himself upward through the storm, and into light...

Emerald Dragon Castle Sitting Room -

Mop squirms in his chair as the Dragons discuss his immediate future.

"I don't know why he went to Osto," he snaps. "Why don't you asks one of the Platinums? After all you're all in cahoots now aren't you? Ganging up on poor Woldians like us. Did you know that Parnoth is the ruler of Osto, now?"
His eyes grow wide at some of Lian's suggestions and he jumps as the druid's hand slams on the table. "Yes, yes!" he says at one point. "Go after the reds. They shouldn't be here anyway. This is Parnoth's kingdom, not theirs." And - "No, they're not married yet. If they got married, he wouldn't need m -"
He stops abruptly, and the handkerchief comes out again, an accomplice in hiding tears as he blows his nose far too loudly.
"I just want them gone," he mutters into the fold of white linen. "And everything back to normal."

Over at the Barracks -

One of the guards slaps the fellow who made the cannibal elf remark across the head.
"We're not all prejudice," he says to Bertram. "But we do have our differences. Perhaps we don't know one another well enough, eh?"
"Heh, and remind us not to get on your bad side," says another, grinning and pointing at the gouge on the table made by the axe.
"All right. Let's drink. But not too harshly, lads. Sun's not over the yard arm, yet. Keep some of your wits about you at least. At some point we need to be knowing what to do about this mess."
An assortment of toasts are raised - everything from Domi to the demise of red dragons. It appears there is a level of detente between the guards and the Dragons. For now, at least.

Outside in the yard -

A group of elves have got together and are singing a song.

Gunther will notice that the plants in the garden areas seem more vibrant than usual, and that the cat house is covered in vines, moreso than usual.

Falin
Monday November 19th, 2007 11:45:33 AM

Walking up, Falin takes note of the new additions and changes made to the keep. Making his way through into the yard he flashes his dragons ring. Coming in he is looking for anything familiar. A face, an area, his room...

Hearing the elves sing makes him smile. It had been a while since he had heard such sweet music. He notices Gunther and walks over slapping the barbarian on the back. "Well, met barbarian." He says with a smile on his face. "I see there have been some additions since I was away. Where is everyone else? I have been away for what seems like ages."

After a quick chat from Gunther and getting some direction from him he continues on into the castle itself looking for the others.

OOC: I am back and happy to be here.

Athalorn
Monday November 19th, 2007 12:07:08 PM

The druid sits down, a little embarrassed at standing and shouting, muttering and grumbling to himself. He was sure there must be some dwarven blood in his veins somewhere! "It seems we are blase indeed about killing dragons. So now we are to kill two reds?" He pauses for thought. "Mop, what does Parnoth know of the change in the Culverwood, and the ancient spirits becoming restless. And a phrophecy?"

ooc: Welcome back, Falin!

Lian
Monday November 19th, 2007 1:11:17 PM

(Welcome back Falin, please remind us of your email address. I believe I removed you from my Emerald group list.)

[When Mop says]"I just want them gone," he mutters into the fold of white linen. "And everything back to normal."
Lian then says, "Back to normal? Thats likely NEVER going to be the case again, not for you anyway.
Like I said, your safer here now. You have betrayed Parnoth in telling us some secret things. Even in his unaltered mind state, he would have considered this base treachery. You would either be jailed or killed. In his newest state of mind, you'd be eaten. Under NEW laws, likely to be put in place by the reds, you'll likely be killed as a supporter of Parnoth. And if we set everything right, Parnoth reinstated, and we see you again, you'll be killed.

So, I'd suggest retiring from Parnoth's service and making a new home somewhere a long ways from the Emerald Kingdom. I suggest Koshe Marr, you would like it there. Its quiet." He smiles.

Then the monk gets a strange look in his eye. He moves to Ingrge. "A moment Ingrge." He pulls the weapon mage to one side.
Speaking in rapid Sylvan and facing Ingrge so that lips can't be read by Mop, he says, "He'll be of great use as a spy. We want him dead more or less anyway, so why not use him. He's used us at times, like now.
I suggest placing him under a Geas of great power. We set him a task of some sort, maybe to find out more about the reds plans for the kingdom or Parnoth and then send him on his way.

What could it hurt?
If he finds the information and returns with it, great for us. If he dies in the attempt, we've lost nothing and great for us with one less trouble maker hanging out there."

"Another option is to use the Geas to make him coerce Parnoth to see us privately, without the reds nearby. This way we can gauge his mind and see what is making him tick now."

"And whats this about Osto? Parnoth's second Kingdom. We can't have that."

Brother Bertram
Monday November 19th, 2007 1:45:15 PM

Bertram smiles. "I am glad to hear that this is the case Friends. Ignorance is a bad way to form any opinion." He walks to the window of the barracks as the sound of the elves singing can be heard. He looks out for a moment fondly then goes back and seats himself. At the comment about his bad side, Bertram snorts, "Like your dragon, my roar is worse than my bite eh?" He grins and raises his drink once again. He doesnt try to get them drunk to gather information but will consider any he gains, and will answer honestly anything he is asked.

The elf holds her tongue, aware that, despite his apparent temporary change of allegiance, it is not wise to be too forthcoming in front of a snake like Mop.

Ingrge has heard the various suggestions, and she trusts him to make the best decision for the group. She watches Mop closely as Lian speaks to Ingrge, searching for any sign of comprehension.

Watching Mop for any sign of deception, Milo leans over to Lian whispering back, "A real shame he isn't dumber'n he looks.... cuz... he looks pretty dumb ta me."

Ingrge
Monday November 19th, 2007 9:15:00 PM

Listing to Lian for a moment Ingrge hears what he is saying and then nearly loses it when he speaks of the Geas spell. Taking a breath, he calms himself remembering that Lian was not with them when Parnoth had laid a geas upon them to complete their first task and didn't know what it was he was asking.

Replying in Sylvan Ingrge responds, "Lian, friend, while what you ask is possible, it is not something I would willingly do to any other living soul, since having lived through having one cast on me, and losing my own free will. I think we will have to suffice to keeping our friend here a well observed semi-permanent guest and then deal with him after we have dealt with Parnoth and friends."

Returning to the table Ingrge looks at Mop and then smiles at the thought of what his distant cousin Trillia would do to him. The smile that Mop sees shows the true depth of what Ingrge feels about the little man and even a glimpse of what he would like to do to the man. And then Ingrge nods as if making a decision.

"Mop, You are going to be residing here in our tower, and you are going to be severely limited in your movements. You will be observed at all times of the day and should you try to contact anyone or talk to anyone other than the person who will bring you your food, I will know and woe unto you. When we return after dealing with Parnoth and his upstart wannabe relatives, we will return here and discuss what is to become of you. If you have been a good boy then you may actually have a say in what happens, if not, well there may not be anything to dicuss.

Any questions? Good. I didn't think there would be. Now let me take you to your room and introduce you to your caretakers."

"Emeralds, when I return, we need to have a hard discussion about what we are about to do and how. I would like us all in on this discussion, so if someone could contact Bertram and Gunther and have them join us. Welcome home Falin! As you can see things have heated up in yuor absence. Make yourself at home and I will return shortly."

Gunther
Monday November 19th, 2007 11:16:48 PM

The warrior's face lights up in surprise as he is met by Falin. "By de Gods!! You're back!!" The warrior grabs Falin up in a bone crushing hug before setting him back on the ground.

Feeling better than he has in a while, Gunther pounces ahead of Falin, joyfully announcing the archers presence to everyone within bellowing range.

OOC: Absolutely fantastic to have you back again Falin!!

Lian
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 1:57:23 AM

Speaking into his ring, Gunther, Bert, we need you back here.

DM Jan
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 2:42:50 AM

Inside the barracks -

Going off the banter, Bertram gets the impression that the Dragons would have allies in these guards if it came to a battle with the reds. Parnoth... he's not so sure.
A recognisable face enters the courtyard as he looks outside - Falin, who is immediately pounced on and given a huge bear hug by Gunther. Whether the elf will remain standing afterwards, or whether he'll need one of Bert's spells to mend his ribs, remains to be seen.

Out in the yard, Athalorn's dire wolf's ears flatten at all the commotion and she gets to her feet. The big cats don't bat an eyelid; they're used to their trainer, after all.

The elves appear to be wandering around sections of the garden - it's almost as though they are serenading the plantlife growing there, and some of the lyrics suggest to anyone understanding elven, that that is exactly what they're doing. It's almost a lullaby, a calming, restful song aimed at the spirit of Ebyron.

Inside the castle keep - the sitting room -

Both Milo and Olana can see that Mop appears quite frustrated as Lian and Ingrge rattle away in Sylvan, and although he twitches every time his name is mentioned, he doesn't exactly give the impression he can understand a whole lot of what's going on.
However, that doesn't seem to be stopping him from trying, evidenced by his rapid-fire reply to Athalorn.
"Change in Culverwood? Why would there be a change in Culverwood?" he says to the druid, his beady eyes darting back toward the two elves and squinting. "Just some stupid trees is all I see. And if there's a prophecy, he hasn't said anything to me about it," he adds.

As Ingrge delivers the news of his immediate fate, the little man seems to deflate. Maybe some of Lian's words have sunk in. Who knows? he looks a tiny, dejected figure as Ingrge leads him out of the room, with the Tower ghost in tow.

And so, what is to be done?
There appears to be a triple threat to the kingdom in the form of Enirul and Nikoli, and the possibly insane Parnoth. And as the scattered essence of Ebyron empowers the might of Culverwood, could there well be a fourth?
One thing is for sure - change is coming...

((OOC - let me know where you guys are intending to place Mop, and what you intend to do with the guards. Not absolutely necessary, but if you need to talk to the Plats about Parnoth and Osto, they're within easy range, in the GG right now.))

Falin
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 11:21:25 AM

"I would say by the company that is in the castle that things have gone weird in my absense," he says with a smile at Ingrge.

"The air in here reeks of Parnoth," he says as he looks at Mop.

He looks over at the others with a warmer visage and asks," Can someone hit the highlights of what I have obviously missed? And then I can fill you in on my happenings."

OOC: Jan I will email you my cs tonite and you can let me know if I need to change anything. Also, if someone could just email me highlights to help augment my backreading the last 5 months. My email is jamie.harwick@gmail.com

Athalorn
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 1:30:47 PM

As the Dragons meet together, the druid speaks his mind as to the path the group should take. "The red's seem to be our immediate threat then, friends. I have waited many years to rid the Kingdom of Parnoth; he can wait a few more weeks to face his death. Where do we find this Red?"

Brother Bertram
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 2:20:06 PM

Bertram hears Lian's call with obvious regret. He was enjoying chatting with these men. "Well Met Friends. It appears I am being summoned. I am glad we have had this time to chat and hope we may do so again soon. If you have any need of anything please ask Bruse for assistance. Again well met and Domi be with you all." Bertram takes his leave and heads up to meet the others. He also is delighted to find Falin there.

Lian
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 2:37:29 PM

Turning to Falin, "No friend Falin, thats Mop your smelling. He still has a bit of Parnoth on his nose." The elf twitches.
"Apparently the Green One has lost his mind, and Mop here, the most upstanding and trustworthy friend Parnoth ever had, has now betrayed him by divulging some secrets. Aw, friendship. Fleeting."

Olana (subbed by Carl)
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 3:43:53 PM

Olana smiles warmly as the long-missing Falin enters the room. Never one for entirely overt displays of emotion she offers a small bow.

"It is good to see you among us once more my friend" she says, "though I fear you join us on the brink of a titanic struggle. We discuss how best to deal with the combined threats of Parnoth and the two red dragons Enirul and Nikoli."

Walking to the desk she hands the wedding invitation to Falin. "Lian is correct; it would seem that Parnoth is intent on dragging the kingdom to disaster. Even his most loyal (if that word can be used to describe Mop) servant fears for his sanity. If this wedding goes ahead, carnage will ensue. Therefore it seems we have but one option; to slay the female Red, and prevent this unholy alliance from ever being formed."

She turns away, thinking, then ponders out loud; "Might we scry on her? Keep her under observation until she is separated from her allies? Then teleport into attack with spells cast and at the ready?"

Lian
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 4:33:02 PM

"Mop, what sorts of beings do the reds associate with? What are their defenses? What forms do they take, that is to say, what is the description of their humanoid form?"

"We should contact the Plat Dragons before they all part ways and partake of retirement. (Ingrge, if you like, I can do this...)

Then we should contact the other members of the Consortium. Additionally, this might be a great time to start initiation Trials for the up and comers of the Consortium."

"Seems we have alot to work out. I suggest a shopping trip for some... for the lack of better words, 'wedding gifts' for the happy couple." He smiles grimly. "Supplies will, of course, be necessary. At least we have SOME clue of what we're getting ourselves into."

"We should assess our cash flow."

Milo
Tuesday November 20th, 2007 9:23:09 PM

Milo sits silently and listens to the conversation as it unfolds... if it unfolds. He snorts at Mop's mentioning that he knows nothing of a prophecy.

Gunther
Wednesday November 21st, 2007 12:45:50 AM

Looking very much like a puppy that hasn't had a playmate in quite some time, the warrior bounds up the stairs and bursts into the main area. "Vhat's going on?" he asks, a happy grin still plastered on his face due to Falin's return.

DM Jan
Wednesday November 21st, 2007 2:51:52 AM

A gap in the clouds.
He swoops down, through the gray canopy, still many miles from Emerald, arriving at the north western edge of a huge sweep of green, currently lying about 1000 feet below him and rolling south east like an immense green carpet over the Wold.
Culverwood.
He can see the trade routes that are flirting with it's edges, but are ultimately too timid to venture inward.
Off to the far west, Shadow Mountain is pulling the clouds in, keeping rain off the forest, enabling a billion leaves to fan out and soak up the sun. And as his shadow travels across its surface, he can feel those leaves reach up...
Now he remembers why he allows Enirul to be here. The forest is growing more powerful every day, and its subversive might is beginning to crawl into his bed of resolve, its suggestions becoming half-believable. That a dragon would find sanctuary in such a place, if only he acknowledges the forest's dominance, is both preposterous and disturbing. The mantle of dominance belongs to him. Or does it?
There is no doubt in Enirul's mind. No doubt at all. Enirul's mind lays out the path for his own. She sees the forest for what it was, for what it should be.
He curls the vanes of his great wings, slowing, descending, hovering.
Dominance.
Let me show you.
Heat and flame burst from him in a glorious, brilliant column of devastation, igniting the trees below and blasting apart the undergrowth beneath, scorching the ground and igniting any surrounding branches. Any living creature not immediately torched, sets off at a blind run, desperate to escape the fire.
His breath energy spent, he rises up, beating through the smoke, basking in the rising heat. There, my pretty forest. I am Parnoth, and you will bow before me.

Emerald Dragon Castle -

The guards sequestered in the barracks talk quietly among themselves as the Dragons gather in the main keep. The answer to the last question fired at Mop before Ingrge leads him off to be locked up -
"I don't know anything about red dragons," he pouts. "As for her, I've seen her as a human, with dark red hair. I think. At the palace. I keep out of her way. She isn't nice. And she has the chil..."
His jaw snaps shut.

Outside in the courtyard, the elves suddenly stop singing. Athalorn, Olana, and anyone born in Culverwood or having a smattering of druidic teachings feel it. A distant hurt. It burns, it burns...

Olana (subbed by Carl)
Wednesday November 21st, 2007 9:07:22 AM

"She has what mop? A child? Children? Tell us what you..."

The high elf is cut short, her eyes growing wide in horror. "Blessed Mother" she whispers, and she struggles to quell the sudden sense of nausea that sweeps through her. She moves to the closest window and throws it open, desperate for cool air, to escape the sudden, stifling heat. It takes a few moments for her to regain her composure. She turns to her companions, tears sprining to her deep green eyes. "Do you feel it?" she breathes in shock. "Do you feel the forest burn?"

Ingrge
Wednesday November 21st, 2007 9:51:26 AM

Getting more than a bit angry as Mop begins to say something about the children and then feeling the forest burn, Ingrge physically grabs Mop and shoves him up the stairs.

"Now you and I are going to have a serious talk Mop!"

Ingrge places him in the middle room on the second living floor and instructs Brusse that he is to watch over Mop at all times and then suddenly from below Ingrge hears a few quick gasps as the painting above the fireplace of Valor Jlacathra disapears with a quiet "pop."

As the painting appears in the room, Ingrge remounts it in the place of another and address Valor in the same way and elicits an open mouthed stare from Mop when the painting actually replies.

Mop, these are your now permanent roommates, a ghost and an enchanted painting of powerful mage. When I leave this room you will not beable to exit. Everything you need will be brought to you and handed to you through the bars.

NOW I think you had best tell me everything you know of Enirul and Nickoli, where they have the children and what you can of the plans for the next few days, or we won't need the bars or this room for that matter.

Falin accepts his welcomes with nods and handshakes as he breezes over the wedding invitation. "Is this some type of joke?" He looks over the others in the room. "And did I just here something about kids?" His face shows the disbelief in what he has just read and heard.

"What has been going on around......" Falin stops short of finishing his statement and lets his eyes trail out the window. "What just happened?" There is a hint of panic in his voice.

"But tell me, where do we strike first? Red or ....." The angered druid stops as does Mop and Olana and the singing. He clutches his head, feeling a strange sensation of pain. A link to his circle, to the great wood. He moves to Olana at the window, offering an arm for support. A pause. A cry in his mind. A quiet whisper.

"The forest burns."

Lian
Wednesday November 21st, 2007 3:20:06 PM

For some reason the monk is silenced after all his talking. Something was wrong. Very wrong. Even though he wasn't technically born in the forest, he was raise in it. He was close to it. A discomfort floods his core, a cold shiver.

"I hope Parnoth isn't planning anyt..." And then Athalorn speaks. The forest burns Lian completes his sentence. "..hing stupid."

"All those creatures."

The monk stands up, moves up the stairs to Ingrge and Mop, and says shakily. "Athalorn says the forest is burning."

DM Jan
Friday November 23rd, 2007 6:31:39 PM

Mop's cries echo down to the others as Ingrge shoves him unceremoniously upstairs. "I didn't know! I wasn't my fault! I didn't know! I didn't!"
Once in the room he points a finger. "You can't treat me like this! I didn't know they'd be all locked in a room when I rounded them up! They were supposed to help with the wedding. Some of the townspeople didn't even mind. They thought it would be a nice thing to do! It's a wedding. Our ruler's wedding. Where's the harm?"
He stares goggle-eyed at the drifting form of Brusse and animated painting on the wall, who's subject seems to be staring down with disgust. "Look," he exclaims, "Nikoli isn't going to be there until the day of the wedding. Parnoth's in Osto - I think. Maybe we can sneak into the palace under Enirul's nose and get the children out. I can help you with that. A fair bargain for my safety I should think, wouldn't you say? I know that palace inside out!" He's yelling enough for some of the others below to hear.

Jlacathra shakes his two-dimensional head and regards Ingrge. "And you're going to leave me in a room with this little snot?"

The detect thoughts spell uncovers no artiface, just blind panic and a struggle to find a way out of, what for Mop has beome, a big mess.

As for the initial horror sensation of the fire, and although a feeling of hurt remains, there's also a notion that the forest is somehow coping with it. Those at the window will see some of the elves below bringing water from the well to fill a scrying bowl.

Three days.
Three dragons.
Tick, tick, tick...

Olana (subbed by Carl)
Friday November 23rd, 2007 7:07:54 PM

"Captured children? Things just got a lot more complicated. We need to keep them safe and take out Enilrul. If Mop can help us with that then I suggest we make use of whatever information he can provide. And we need to act swiftly.

I suggest we get Mop's proposed route of attack, then scry ahead to see what awaits us. Can that be done?"

Falin
Friday November 23rd, 2007 8:51:30 PM

"I agree with Olana," Falin says slamming a fist down into his open palm. "We need to act and we need to act now. The children must be saved."

Athalorn
Saturday November 24th, 2007 2:11:35 AM

Athalorn turns to his old friend. "Thank you Gunther. The forest will be alright. A moment of pain, but the great Wood has suffered worse. Now, I agree with Olana. Use Mop to infiltrate the palace, get the children out and deal with Enilrul.

Milo
Saturday November 24th, 2007 10:17:09 AM

Milo sits stunned, not sure how to react to this, as normally casual words escape his mind and the halfling's thoughts turn toward the dragonskin clothing he plans to have made when this is said and done. One suit of red... and one of green.

Lian
Saturday November 24th, 2007 12:53:47 PM

"I agree, with one previso, Mop draws us a map. I don't trust him, regardless of grovling. He shouldn't go along. One of us can leave one of our communication rings with the captain of the elven archers and if something goes wrong, signal the archers and... well, I'm sure the archers need the practice. Besides, they were awefully disappointed when Mop and band came along quietly." The monk smirks, looking at Mop. "Pathetic."

He resigns himself that this idea may not set with Ingrge and the others and shrugs, "We need to plan a shopping trip soon. Supplies."

"Milo, you still have those anti-dragon arrows? Maybe Falin can hang onto them on this go? Just a suggestion."

"Personally, I fancy a set of evil dragon bane Tears of Ebyron."

Falin 2nd Post
Saturday November 24th, 2007 2:17:08 PM

In response to Lian, "I have a few dragon slaying arrows. One is for Green and the other is for Red. I figured the 'red' was important after our last run in with the reds. The 'green' was given to me just before I left."

Gunther
Saturday November 24th, 2007 11:36:06 PM

The warrior smiles, glad to see that things are well with Athalorn's forest.

As plans are being made for the attack, Gunther's face slowly clouds. "I'm all for killing dragons like de next orc..." it's clear that the warrior is doing his best to be thoughtful, which in and of itself is a daunting task. "But de female has never done anyting to us. How do ve justify going in and just killing her?"

Lian
Sunday November 25th, 2007 2:18:26 PM

"Gunther, I think we can justify it simply by saying the female is an unknown element, an invader of the kingdom. Even if 'betrothed' to the ruler, she was not blessed by the populace. Fear would reign if she was Queen." He shrugs. "Besides, she's sister to Nikoli, the Murderer of the Masses."

Brother Bertram
Sunday November 25th, 2007 3:16:05 PM

"Regardless of how things go, Mops men go free. They are just doing a job. They are good men who are trying to take care of thier families. Either way they go free. Not until after this if it makes everyone feel better of course, but they will not be killed."

Ingrege
Sunday November 25th, 2007 5:57:20 PM

Haning gotten some information from Mop, (hopefully a desription of the room where the children are being kept), Ingrge joins Lian and makes his way back downstairs nodding at the news of the forest. Hearing Gunther's question about the female red he chuckles. Gunther, you do realize that the red we are talking about is the one that near about killed and ate that family we just kind of rescued. I would say that by attacking and eating innocent residents of the Emerald Kingdom is enough to warrent or disposal of her, even if she weren't Nickoli's sister.

Brother Bertram, I agree whoelheartedly that Mop's men should have the freedom to leave if they so wish, however unless they intend on aiding us in retrieving the children and fighting the reds and possibly Parnoth, they will need to remain here as our guests until we return.

I also agree that we need to so a small amout of equiping before we go in to this, but we have little time. Aparently Nickoli will not be around until the wedding in three days and apparently Parnoth is currently in Osto which should give us, unless he uses travel magic, aother day before he is back. Which leaves us Enruil left to deal with currently. So I say we have the rest of today and tomorrow morning before we leave. We will use the ring to travel at least to the Palace if not to the room with the children. I will spend a little time trying to scry up some information while the rest of you make your prepararions.

"Off to the Catacombs I think. Should I keep the carpet?"

K'Nara
Monday November 26th, 2007 12:55:48 PM

"Keep the carpet...you never know when you can use an extra mode of flight...or something to keep your bare feet warm when spending the night at an inn that doesn't have rugs in their rooms."

The voice belongs to the tall redheaded human blade singer leaning in the doorway. She grins at the assembled group.

"Miss me?" she asks, her hazel eyes twinkling with humor.

Athalorn
Monday November 26th, 2007 1:27:43 PM

The druid looks around at the Bladesinger with a wry smile. "You just couldn't keep away could you? And welcome back!" The druid tries to get his greeting in before Gunther engulfs the woman in his huge arms.

Ingrge
Monday November 26th, 2007 5:56:15 PM

Looking up at K'nara's voice coming from the doorway a momentary smile crosses his lips.

"So how long have you been standing there? Long enough to hear what we are facing, or do you need a quick synopsis?"

"Oh yeah, and unless you have other plans we need to move out by noon tomorrow."

Milo
Monday November 26th, 2007 6:36:29 PM

Searching through his quiver, "Lian... I don't think I ever had a dragon slaying arrows. Would be nice... but a dragon bane bow might be just the thing. I think that I'll join you in the Catacombs." Then seeing K'nara, Milo is speechless and so happy that all he can manage to do is hop up and down and wave at her.

Brother Bertram
Monday November 26th, 2007 7:06:14 PM

Bertram nods his agreement to Ingrge about Mop's escort being kept incommunicado until after the operation. He smiles gently seeing K'nara join them again. He sneaks a quick look at Gunther, almost feeling guilty for being snoopy. He muses over what Ingrge has said and figures he has to spend some time praying to Domi and Gargul for power and spells.

DM Jan
Monday November 26th, 2007 8:20:23 PM

K'nara arrives to a scene of feverish planning. On walking through the courtyard she will have noticed some elves around a scrying bowl full of water. The scene on the surface of the water shows a forest fire. There are some elves in the scene also, raising their hands toward approaching, billowing storm clouds. One turns and gives the thumbs up.

Mop has given a rough map of where the children are, after a lot of howling and complaining. (I'll draw that up tonight, folks, and post a link). Would the guards help with the assault? Some of the elven archers? Now's the time to ask.

It's time to shop, sharpen, pray and prepare. There's a red dragon at large and this is going to be NO PICNIC!

((Kent, let me know details of what you're scrying for, where etc. Everyone else, let me know what you're purchasing, and changes in spells from your standard CS, and what have you.))

K'Nara
Monday November 26th, 2007 11:44:32 PM

K'Nara personally greets each of her fellow party members with a smile and a hug, saving Gunther for last--his hug seems to last a bit longer than the others.

"A synopsis would be greatly appreciated, thank you." the chestnut-maned woman says, nodding.

Falin
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 2:11:54 AM

"I am kind of in the same boat as you, Knara." Falin says to the bladesinger. "But this is what I got... Parnoth is marying the female red dragon. The female red dragon has some children hostage. We are going to free the children and kill the dragon." He pauses for a moment and says, "It is good to see you again too."

He looks back at the group and with a bit of a smirk says, "Did I miss anything?"

Lian
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 10:42:39 AM

"... Parnoth is now ruler of Osto and Nikoli is the female red's brother. Her name is Enirul by the way. Nikoli is going to be at the wedding in three days. And now the Culverwood is burning.

Oh yeah, and that snotbag Mop has defected, supposedly..." He quotes the word in the air with his fingers. "... and says that Parnoth has lost his mind.

Incidently, those twenty prats you saw in the barracks area are Mop's contingent. They are leaving soon."

"Oh yeah, did you hear that a huge tree called the Ancient is marching slowly toward Emerald City and is planning something very destructive?!"

"And welcome back Knara! What was this secret thing you had to do that left us in the tyranical grasp of Ingrge?" He smirks and finally breathes after the run-on sentence.

Olana (Subbed by Carl)
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 11:44:53 AM

The elf nods at her companions' words. "That about sums it up. Welcome back, K'Nara, your arrival couldn't have come at a better time. We're going to need every blade we have, and I can't think of anyone I'd rather have at my side at a time like this. Make no mistake, the odds we face are formidable. Perhaps the greatest we have ever faced."

Gunther
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 11:59:21 AM

Baby blue eyes grow to the size of saucers at the sound of K'nara's voice coming around the corner. No, it can't be...he'd just imagined it...he'd been wanting her, no needing her to return for so long! His confusion paralyzes him and Gunther lies absolutely still for the first second of K'nara's hug. The warmth of her body, that deliteful smell of leather and perfume...it really is her!!! His strong arms wrap around her and he pulls the bladesinger in close. Tears in his eyes he kisses her softly. "I vas vorried about you." he whispers as he nuzzles her.

Slowly releasing her from the embrace, the warrior begrudgingly lets her greet the rest of the Dragons. What was is that Ingrge had said..."move out by noon tomorrow"...oh...but I have a pretty good idea of how to fill those precious hours, and it certainly doesn't involve anyone but the two of them!!

Athalorn
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 12:36:40 PM

Smiling at the gentle side of the cat trainer, Athalorn allows them there moment while talking with the rest of the group. "If you will allow, I will head to my grove. I must pray well this night." With that, the scruffy druid turns and leaves the Dragons, taking the Wolf with him that has been waiting outside. He heads towards the grove, stopping to look in the scrying water to make sure the elves have managed to quench the flames.

Brother Bertram
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 2:46:54 PM

"Friends, I could ask if Mop's escort would be interested in helping? As I said they are good men and may at least be able to offer some advice as to defenses of the place."

K'Nara
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 5:49:18 PM

The human blade singer smiled at the welcome she received and then got down to business.

"Coming into the castle, I noticed that there's a storm brewing over the Culverwood." K'nara told everyone. "From the reaction of the villagers, I'd say that the Culverwood itself seems to be fighting the fire...but I still don't like the implications about it--nor about that great Father Tree intent upon taking action against Emerald City." The leader of the Emerald Dragons frowned thoughtfully.

"Anybody ever get the exact reason why Mop seems to be sure that Parnoth has lost his mind?" she asked. "I mean...did he gradually lose his reasoning, or did he suddenly seem to be acting weird?" She nods at Brother Bertram as well.

"The good cleric here has an idea worth exploring--we could use the help of the escort, if they're willing."

Ingrge
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 5:58:59 PM

K'nara I will leave the others to catch you up I need to do some scrying and then make a quick trip to the catacombs. If you desparately need me knock or let Cearyn know and she will get me.

With that Ingrge heads upstairs to take out his materials. (jan - scrying email coming your way.)

Brother Bertram
Tuesday November 27th, 2007 7:30:06 PM

Bertram nods back and heads back over to the barracks. He drops his axe outside and heads into see the men. He greets them warmly but even these men can see that he is troubled. Bertram states his case without preamble, "I have just learned that the Red has taken many of the city's children and is holding them as some sort of hostage. I dont know if this affects any of you personally but I thought you should know." Seeing the men looking at each other apprehensively, Bertram pushes onward. "Gentleman we would like your help to get rid of red dragons. We have our differences about Parnoth I realize but in this I think we are in agreement. I dont think any of can condone using children as a shield to hide behind. I ask you plainly and sincerely, Will you aid us?"

DM Jan  d20+26=45 d20+27=45 d20+27=28
Wednesday November 28th, 2007 2:09:23 AM

Although Mop has a fair reputation and acknowledgable skills as Parnoth's bully boy and an all round obnoxious individual, that skill hasn't extended to map making.
Mop's Map
"Upstairs goes up into the staterooms and reception areas of the palace," he grumbled after writing with a wobbly hand. "Those steps down, they go to the jail. It's just a corridor down there with a row of cells. Nothing fancy. We have a better jail in town. Corridors are all about 6 ft wide, and it's busy, with the kitchen and the guardroom there."

Falin, Olana, Gunther, and Lian and Milo (prior to a catacombs visit) gather around K'Nara and give her the details, while Bert goes back over to the barracks, Athalorn heads off to the grove, and Ingrge sets off to get some serious scrying done.

A glance into the scrying bowl will show a rather heavy rain shower coming down and dousing the flames on the distant Culverwood fire.
Athalorn's wolf lopes after him. She's hungry. Time to eat meat; tear at flesh.

At the barracks, Bert watches the men look at one another. He can see it's a tough decision. The possibility that their action could quite well be against the wishes of Parnoth has not escaped them. After a few raised eyebrows and a few more nods, one of them stands.
"Aye, we're with you," he says, solemnly. "What do you want us to do?"

As for Ingrge's scrying, the jail cells are easy enough - a corridor, two flickering torches on the walls, six doors - all shut. Voices can be heard coming from two cells - cells three and four...

"...two men, one man and his dog, Spot, a bottle of pop, and a sausage roll,
went to mow a meadow.
"Three men went to mow, went to mow a meadow,
three men, two men, one man and his dog, Spot...."

As for his other attempts -

Enirul - nothing.

Parnoth - nothing.

Nikoli - a flash of grey rock, a whiff of damp air, then nothing.

((OOC - I'm cracking up after reading the Catacombs - Milo getting in there before that bull, LOL Jay))

K'Nara
Wednesday November 28th, 2007 9:44:20 AM

K'Nara's eyebrow elevated and she grimaced as she contemplated Mop's "map".

"If these are the same jail cells we were 'guests' in," she said, referring to the original group's first meeting with Parnoth, "Then our memory of where and what the cells were might be better than this...diagram." Then she shrugged. "We won't know until we get there." Rubbing the back of her neck, the woman shook her chestnut head.

"What's got me awfully suspicious is how Parnoth seems to have started acting strangely after his encounter with that...that thing that threatened the Wold." K'Nara frowned again. "There might be something that happened that we need to know about." Contemplating for a moment more, the woman warrior activated her communication ring, this time addressing the soon-to-be-retiring Platinum Dragons.

OOC: K'Nara will be talking to the various Plats, questioning them on exactly what it was that any of them saw Parnoth do before, during and after the confrontation with the creature that would have destroyed the Wold. The DM may wish to have Father Nicholas give his perspective on the events (assuming the cleric was witness to any of it.) Otherwise there'll be an OOC in the Giggling Ghost for the players to kindly let me know what their PCs may tell K'Nara.

Athalorn
Wednesday November 28th, 2007 12:55:15 PM

The druid barks at the Dire Wolf, letting her free to go hunting, and with a clear instruction through the Wreath of communication to return soon to the Grove.

He then wanders into the grove. Seeing the fey still gathered there, he greets them. "How much longer will I have you all as guests? It's not that I am not grateful for the company, or for that matter some incumbents to watch my grove, i just wondered really." He takes time to check on Glannath, his old eagle companion.

Asking the fey for some peace, he decides to make a quick visit to the catacombs. Some of the items he has might be sold...

Brother Bertram
Wednesday November 28th, 2007 2:35:20 PM

Bertrams smile lights up the room. "I thank you from the bottom of my heart." And he walks over to the captain of the group and offers his hand. He yells out to the group's guards outside the door. "These men need to be re-equipped with thier armor as well as thier weapons. As of now they are with us through the coming days. I will get back to you as soon as I know more Friends." He moves out of the room picks up his axe, and notices his trembling hand. He really didnt know what the men would decide. It made him proud to know there were such men in the world, even if misguided by Parnoth. He squared his shoulders and went back up to join the others.

Lian
Wednesday November 28th, 2007 2:57:28 PM

Looking at Knara, "Its hard to know when Parnoth started acting odd, but from what I gather, and from Mop's explanation, it seems to have started about the time the Culverwood rose up but also all this happened around the time the Reds got involved too. I can't speak for everyone, but I think, personally, its a natural progression for Parnoth.. he's not exactly young anymore and all this stress..." He pauses. "...I wonder just exactly how 'connected' he was to the Culver? Maye more than we assumed? You know what I mean, Culverwood wakes, the connection is strengthened so much that Parnoth's dubious mind breaks under the pressure."

"Falin! I almost forgot!" The hand of Domi retrieves several items from his pockets. "Take these back please!!"

Ingrge
Wednesday November 28th, 2007 8:28:32 PM

A bit tired and testy after his mostly futile attempt to learn anything of interest, Ingrge comes stomping down the stairs and throws himself into a chair and then informs the others about what he didn't find out.

Gunther
Wednesday November 28th, 2007 11:39:13 PM

Gunther pouts ever so slightly as K'nara is so absorbed with the strategic planning. She's the leader...it's right that she should think of the mission first. I knew that about her before I came to love her...I shouldn't expect her to pine for me like some love sick kobold. After all, somebody's got to be the brains of the group...and it isn't me. Forcing a smile on his face, the warrior sets about a special mission with some of the elves...a daunting prospect in and of itself.

K'Nara
Thursday November 29th, 2007 1:02:26 AM

Before the halfling actually leaves to go to the Catacombs, K'Nara nods his way.

"Milo...can you kindly see about getting at least three bottles of Sovereign Glue--six would be better, but I don't know how much it's going to cost you...and make sure the glue is in breakable containers that can be easily thrown." She smiles brightly, although the halfling can easily see that it's K'Nara's "not nice" smile.

Olana
Thursday November 29th, 2007 1:25:33 AM

Olana sets off toward the Catacombs, figuring she'd probably need all kinds of things. Hopefully Milo hadn't bought all the store.

"Hey, Ath - need any cash?"

DM Jan
Thursday November 29th, 2007 2:05:46 AM

So!
Some of the party push and shove their way into the madness that is the Catacombs in order to purchase the necessaries.
Bert is assured that the guards are ready. All they need are instructions when the time comes.
If Gunther is planning anything that involves elves, he'll find plenty around the camp, all eager to do something to bring the dragons down. Half the camp had been decimated by Nikoli, after all.
If Ingrge gained any insight into his scrying, it was perhaps that - going off the singing - the child captors were in good spirits. As for the dragons, they were always difficult creatures to scry on.

As for the discussion on Parnoth's current state of mind, perhaps a conversation was in order with a few of the Plats, who might be able to shed some light on the subject.
((We have both groups in the GG right now - a good bet would be Nick, Cori, Valdor and ve Mundr))

As Athalorn's wolf lopes off into the trees to find dinner, the druid's grove comes alive as he calls on the fey. They unwind themselves from tree trunks and branches, or merely appear from nowhere particularly obvious. There's quite a crowd now - more than before. The old one with the crown - Meskel - gives him a shrug. "We're trying to be inconspicuous," he says. "But right now, this is the only safe place for miles. And more are coming."

Falin
Thursday November 29th, 2007 2:30:24 AM

Just, feeling a little overwhelmed right now with just getting back and already the Wold seeming to be at the brink of destruction, decides to retire to his room in the tower.

Falin accepts his gifts back from Lian, "Thanks. I hope to put these to good use in the upcoming battle."

"Hey, with all the contruction I still have my room in the tower, don't I?" Falin seems hopefull as he slowly makes his way out waiting for an answer.

Lian
Thursday November 29th, 2007 9:00:23 AM

"Falin, I'm sure you'll find the room where you left it. Though, getting in might be tough, I'm not sure your room was cleaned after Nikoli did his breaking and entering.
He stole anything of any real value that wasn't tied down, usually magic, from what I understand. Nothing of mine was taken that I know of."

Athalorn
Thursday November 29th, 2007 12:10:58 PM

Through his ring of communication, the druid speaks to Olana. "Many thanks Olana, but I can't think of anything to buy that might be helpful. I must have been swayed by peer pressure!"

He laughs at Meskel's suggestion that the fey are being inconspicuous. "You are all welcome, of course, my friends. This is a safe place, and if anything happens to you all here I will take it very personally indeed! Please, this is your home for as long as you need one."

Brother Bertram

So K'nara, any thoughts about how we want to go about this? I say "pop" into the palace and let the guards free the kids and try and take care of any of Enirul's own guards while we remove the wannabe queen from her ambitions.

Gunther
Friday November 30th, 2007 12:46:14 AM

With a large bundle in tow, Gunther does indeed head to the elven camp where he sets about finding an armorer.

OOC: Jan, email headed your way about Gunther's actions.

Olana
Friday November 30th, 2007 10:59:36 AM

Rummaging through her stuff, Olana sets off for the catacombs. Before she does -
"Can we trust the guards to rescue the children? And do they have enough man power? she says to Ingrge.

DM Jan
Friday November 30th, 2007 11:24:52 AM

After climbing the steps to his old room, Falin will note that his belongings are folded neatly, the area is clean and free of dust, bedding is aired. The view is different, of course, with surrounding buildings more robust and partially blocking the view of the forest.

As Gunther strides through the camp, there's an overall tension, and he'll notice what looks like an elven war party gathering, every one of them bristling with bows, arrows and some kind of light armour. Looks like they're gearing up for something, invited or not. They might need a leader.
As for the armourer -
He examines what Gunther has brought him, in the confines of a bivouac-like structure tied up between and against some tree trunks left behind after one of Parnoth's vegetation culls.
"Hmmmm, you don't see a lot of this about." He calls a colleague and they talk quietly to themselves for a little while. Eventually -
"This will be expensive to make. We know what's going on, so we'll do the labour for free, but the materials..." The amount comes to whatever Gunther has in his purse, less 30%.

Athalorn's direwolf (dead raccoon clamped between teeth) returns to a grove infested with hordes of fey. She stays at the perimeter, settles down, and soon the sound of small bones snapping and flesh tearing can be heard.

The guards get word to Bertram, wondering if they're free to wander about. They might need a leader, too.

Meanwhile, the beginnings of tactics are discussed, business goes on at the catacombs with Milo, Lian, Ingrge and Olana. And in the Giggling Ghost, K'Nara and Lian seek audience with the Platinum Dragons.

Falin
Friday November 30th, 2007 11:53:17 AM

After a brief repreve and feeling a little better about his surroundings Falin goes back down to the courtyard and begins looking for any of the elven archers he trained for the attack on the reds the first time. When he find them he will ask how they have been and if they have been continuing their training and who has been training them.

Brother Bertram
Friday November 30th, 2007 2:24:42 PM

Bertram walks back down to the barracks, amused at the number of trips he was making. He told the men they were free to get out and stretch thier legs and see to any other needs they might have. "Is there anything else I can do for you men?"

Gunther
Friday November 30th, 2007 5:29:04 PM

The warrior nods at the craftsmen. "Tank you. I appreciate your villingness to help. I know you are preparing to help in oder vays. I'd like it finished as quickly as possible, but I understand if oder jobs are more important." By the gods, why did he always feel like he was saying all the wrong things when he talked to elves? With an awkward bow, Gunther leaves the raw materials along with the combined total of money that he and K'nara had come up with. He heads back to the Tower with a big grin on his face. Just wait until Athalorn sees his new present!! I hope they can get it done before we head out!

Athalorn
Saturday December 1st, 2007 4:07:39 AM

Seeing that the wolf was quite happy with her dinner, Athalorn begins to pray for some spells. He kneels amongst the trees and the grasses and the seemingly limitless Fey who scamper around his grove, unaware that Gunther was paying so much gold for a gift.

ooc: Eek! I feel guilty that you are spending so much money!

Ingrge
Saturday December 1st, 2007 9:39:51 AM

Oh yeah, K'nara? I just remembered something.

Just before we left, Kronan told me we had a good bit of change left over from our building of the castle, as we went ahead and used the Lyres I had him buy. I think there is about 185,000 gold left. If we put 100,000 into a castle reserve for supplies, slaries, stipends etc, I think we could divy up the other 85,000 to whom ever needs it for stuff.

K'Nara
Saturday December 1st, 2007 8:09:34 PM

K'Nara's eyebrows rose at Ingrge's announcement.

"Oh, really?" she asked, then grinned. "You know somebody's just got to have Red Dragon bane enchantment on their weapon--well, at least ONE of us, anyhow. I'd love to have everyone in the party equipped with Red Dragon Slayers, but I don't know offhand if the amount you quoted would be able to cover that."

Whatever the party planned to get from the Catacombs, the human blade singer would be joining Gunther soon--they had a lot of time apart to make up for.

Ingrge
Sunday December 2nd, 2007 9:30:47 AM

K'nara, it would probably be cheaper to buy a low level bane weapon than to add bane magic to our existing ones. For instance we could buy a dragon bane weapon for about 10,000 gold whereas to add bane magic to Bertram's axe for example would cost roughly 22,000 gold. I guess it all depends on what we are trying to do. We could buy 2-3 arrows of greater dragon slaying for each of our bow users for around 2100 gold each arrow. That might be a more effective use, though I'm not sure.

Bertram waits for Mop's guards to make any last requests they have, intent on joining the others and finalizing thier plans.

K'Nara nodded approvingly upon hearing Ingrge's suggestions.

"Dragon slayer arrows...VERY good!" she agreed. "And I still want those breakable containers of Sovereign Glue."

(Nope, didn't get anything about the XP rewards.)

"So Ingrge, how much do I get?" Grins the monk. "Not being greedy, but looking to buy another carpet! I also heard about these magic beans..." He smirks.

Falin
Monday December 3rd, 2007 1:42:53 PM

"Lian, you should be able to trade a cow for those magik beans." Falin says with a smile on his face. Although, at the edge of his mind he worries about facing a red dragon.

Lian
Monday December 3rd, 2007 3:07:25 PM

"Um, Knara, I just realized. What sort of being gets chaotic and insists on getting married quickly? Someone like Parnoth tends toward organization and order, like you said in the Ghost.
Its either a midlife crisis or he's dying!"

K'Nara
Monday December 3rd, 2007 4:56:11 PM

"...or it isn't Parnoth." K'Nara nodded along with Lian's supposition. "It's possible that his mind was either damaged or even possibly taken over by that...that thing that he and the Platinum Dragons had to fight--only I have no way of knowing. All we can say for sure is that, where the Emerald Kingdom once had to deal with only one tyrant, we are now having to deal with three. Not good odds."

DM Jan
Monday December 3rd, 2007 9:59:56 PM

Over the course of the next few hours, it becomes apparent that the Emeralds have a little more cash than they thought. No doubt it will be well spent.
Conversations in the Giggling Ghost are perhaps suggesting that Parnoth may indeed be suffering from some kind of craziness, courtesy of a previous adventure. Interesting...
Meanwhile, over at the Catacombs, some of our heroes are buying and selling, in preparation for the big confrontation. Seems there's a mind-reader in there. But, no harm in that. It's all good. After all, it IS the Catacombs. Safe enough..... right?

The guards assure Bert they'll be okay now they can wander around a bit. The dwarf might find a little humour in watching them for a while, as they stroll about looking here and there. It becomes obvious that some of these boys have hardly stepped out of town before, and the sight of the newly built Emerald castle and the surrounding elven camp is surely something for them to behold.

As it happens, these guards eventually gravitate toward the group of elves stood around Falin, where the elven adventurer appears to be being bombarded with questions.
Which dragon are we going after?
How?
When?
Where?
What is the battle plan?
What about the children?
Falin remembers a few faces amongst the elves, but not many. Various battles and the 'visit' from Nikoli have taken their toll. Still, this a solid group, with reasonable archery expertise and an excellent knowledge of guerilla warfare. With Culverwood growing more powerful and ansty, quite a number of the group are refugee deep Culverwood elves and have been known to raid one another's groups in ancient times. The appearence of the human guards amongst them renders them a little perlexed, but not for long.

Athalorn's prayers are disturbed at some point by the dire wolf's low, menacing growl. There are two elves at the entrance of his grove, wanting to 'take note of his measurements'. Why? Ask Gunther is their only reply.

Night is beginning to draw in, and as campfires take over as the main source of light, knives and swords are sharpened, armour is mended and checked for fit, arrows are dipped in pitch and poison, bracers are checked for their lacings, bowstrings are carefully wound. Darkness and anticipation grow alongside one another, and the mood is tense.

For there are children to rescue, and the time for planning is almost over.

((No XPs as yet. Was the last time after the 'three monsters in the trees' encounter?))

Ingrge
Monday December 3rd, 2007 11:08:31 PM

Ok how many bow users of any type do we have amongst the 9 of us, Falin I know and myself, but I have no bow any longer. Olana I think. Bertram? K'nara? Milo? Lian? Athalorn? Gunther?

Lian I would guess that we each would get about 9000 gp to use.

Falin
Monday December 3rd, 2007 11:53:15 PM

"Just wait my friends. I know about as much as you do right now." Falin says to the elves questions. "Right now the time calls for training and preparation for what is to come. I would begin looking at who is able to carry a bow or sword and see where their talents lie."

Falin will visit briefly with those he knows and introduce himself to those he does not. If their are younger elves practicing with their bows he will take some time to watch and correct.

Over his ring Falin will communicate, "My friends, if you were to buy me a bow it would ruin any chance I would have to hit. When I use the bow I have poured my soul into I can hit almost near anything. Arrows are the thing that would help me the most."

Athalorn
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 1:35:11 AM

Athalorn looks bemused at the need to have his body 'measured' by these elves, but if it is Gunther's request then the Druid complies with only a grumble of protest. He continues with his prayers, smiling at the wolf's early warning system. This was a good friend, and Athalorn knows the reincarnated animal must be looked after well. Three dragons would be a fight too much for the packsister.

ooc: Jan I can't remember getting XP since the fight in the cube. Maybe I'm wrong? And Athalorn doesn't have a bow - if you want to arm him with a useful wand or two, he can act as party healer for the fight?

Lian
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 6:26:44 AM

(OOC: We got XP (867) last time after fighting Hextoral on Sept 26, 2007. I last updated my sheet on 9-27-07.

Each of us have 9000gp to spend wisely for an epic battle, nice!)

Lian shakes his head at Ingrge. "I haven't used a bow in years. In fact, all projectiles feel oddly uncomfortable in my hands. But if I could, I'd use a sling of Dragon Bane or even a javelin."

Brother Bertram
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 6:46:36 PM

Bertram arrives upstairs in time to hear Ingrge let the others know what there was to spend. "I will purchase some scrolls for healing if no one objects. I feel that is what I will need for this battle. I am afraid my role will be to succor you all when we begin to feel this dragon's foul breath."

Milo
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 8:02:05 PM

Returned from the Catacombs, "Lian... why don't you take my 9000... I've already been skinned by the folks at the shoppe and it won't do me any good now." Looking around, "Or if anyone else needs some extra, just speak up." Looking over to Ingrge, "In this one, I am indeed a bow user." The halfling holds up a shiny new shortbow with twin dragons curling about the length with etchings of death (Gargul) inscribed upon their heads."

K'Nara
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 9:31:20 PM

The blade singer frowned, turning over in her mind the information about Parnoth she received from the Platinum Dragons.

"The consensus about Parnoth seems to be that he's definitely not acting like his usual self, and that it may be due to his exposure to that...thing that he and the Plats vanquished in Osto. A spell or some magic effect may be the cause, or something else that seems to have prompting his mental instability. I'm not sure how to go about discerning the true cause, though."

Gunther
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 9:36:22 PM

Making a side trip over to the cat enclosure, Gunther hears the call over the communication ring. "I've never been very goot vith bows. Maybe I could get some kind of protection from fire dough... I'll head over to de Catacombs right avay."

Ingrge
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 10:20:43 PM

Ok so we have Milo, Falin and myself as bow users. Olanna? I will take care of getting the arrows we need though if anyone has any of their 9000 left over, it might aid in the purchase.

Olana
Tuesday December 4th, 2007 11:37:25 PM

"Yep, I'm a bow user. I'm trying to get mine upgraded, maybe, and some of those arrows will come in handy. I'll put my 9000 into the pot. I havent spent any money in ages," she adds sheepishly, "so I really need to get myself upgraded."

News about a crazy Parnoth leaves her puzzling over whether that was a good or a bad thing in terms of a confrontation.

Falin
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 12:27:00 AM

"Go ahead and use my 9000 for arrows as well."

Athalorn
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 1:36:07 AM

Through the ring of communication; "Hmm, perhaps I ought to make a return trip to those Catacombs. Some protection from fire, as you say Gunther, may be crucial." With that, he wanders...

DM Jan
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 2:04:12 AM

((OOc - guys and gals, I know a few of you are waiting on answers to emails regarding your characters. I'll get to them, and my apologies for being so late. I'm pushed for time right now, and keeping the game moving is priority numero uno. Once I have my ducks in a row, we're good.))

Approaching midnight, and the group make final preparations and trips to the catacombs.
In the camp, the twenty human guards that Mop brought with him are reasonable swordsmen. Elven bowmen and women are now numbering forty. Thirty of these are experienced, the other ten - novices.
Gunther is informed that his 'request' will be fulfilled by dawn tomorrow. Obviously someone will be up all night with shears, needle and thread, and what have you.

Dawn will be Day #2. With the wedding the day after that.

((OOC - Unless there are any strenuous objections, I'd like to get us all moving in the next post. Don't worry if your Catacomb transactions aren't finalized. I'm sure we'll have a day or three before your character actually starts busting heads.))

Falin
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 3:34:37 AM

Falin will camp with the eleven archers for the night and then see how 'inexperienced' the other ten archers are. He will go through movements and shooting as a team with them (the abridged version).

Over the ring, "I am going to make sure the archers are good for the battle. With a dragon, if it is in the air, the archers are one fo the main ways to hit it. I don't want them to get toasted. When we are ready to go or if we have to get together to talk some more let me know and I will be there."

Athalorn
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 12:55:35 PM

the druid stays in his grove the night, sometimes talking with the Wolf and sometimes with the Fey. It is a veritable party atmosphere in the grove, with the anticipation of tomorrow adding to the buzz among the inhabitants.

Lian
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 12:59:46 PM

"Urm, thanks Milo. I'll happily accept your 9000gp. I will be sure to use it well!" He claps the halfling on the shoulder. "Wow, this'll change things a bit."

(Thanks Chris!)

K'Nara
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 2:39:49 PM

"Hmmm?" K'Nara seemed to snap out of a bit of a trance, then she nodded to Ingrge and Lian. "Yes, use my part of the funds for arrows, too--I'm a bit handy with the short bow as well." She frowned in contemplation.

"Word from the Platinum Dragons is that it's quite possible that Mop's opinion is correct: Parnoth just may have been driven insane by his contact with that thing he aided the Plats against in Osto." The leader of the Emerald Dragons growled. "If this is the case, I would like to be sure...although I have to admit, just killing Parnoth is probably the simplest of the solutions to the problem."

K'Nara made sure that she had her equipment ready (which hopefully includes the Sovereign Glue and the Dragon Slaying arrows) and then spent the night making sure that Gunther wouldn't have to kiss Thaeri again.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 5:08:01 PM

Bertram finalizes his purchase plans and readies himself for the trip.

Ingrge
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 5:51:37 PM

Um guys don't bother with any protection from fire magic I just purchased a wand of protection from fire at the 10th level so we should be good to go there.

So Olana are you using the cash to upgrade or do you want me to use it to buy some arrows?

Ingrge 7000 remaining
K'nara 9000
Falin 9000

Ok all I expect we need to get some sleep and be ready to set out in the morning. Hopefullly I will have a few new tricks up my sleeve for Enirul and Parnoth.

Milo
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 6:26:42 PM

Just about ready to go... Milo settles in for the evening, quiet with introspection about the challenge of dealing with the three dragons.

Gunther
Wednesday December 5th, 2007 11:10:27 PM

Glad for the alone time, Gunther treats K'nara like royalty, indulging every whim. And though he knows that such an action will most likely result in a very large degree of snobbish behavior in the future, Gunther insists that Thaeri spend the night either in the cat enclosure or hunting...her choice.

Awakening early due to K'nara's normal pre-dawn workout, Gunther nuzzles her neck tenderly. He looks pensive and perhaps even anxious. "Please don't get angry vith me my love... It's just dat I'm vorried about dis mission... Von dragon is enough, but tree." Gunther blows out a large puff of breath. "I know you can take care of yourself, it's just..." His blue eyes are wide with sincerity. "Vell, it vas so hard ven you vere gone. I missed you so much. And de thought of having you gone forever...I don't tink I could live vith dat." Gunther turns from K'nara, inwardly ashamed of his doubts and fears.

Olana
Thursday December 6th, 2007 1:11:45 AM

"Ingrge, could you use it to buy arrows for us? I haven't been to the Catacombs for ages, so I already have some money to upgrade a couple of things."

As usual, she appears to be in a bit of a muddle when it comes to handling cash, trading in equipment, etc etc.
