"Some pretty good sparklies here, Belkie. I'll start a pile. Just pick out what you think you need, huh?" (With Good Hope ... Search Take10 = 29. Take20 = 39.)
The rogue empties the contents of the dragon's satchel onto the floor before moving on to the Priesty Timmity Guy and searching his dead body.
"We gotta decide what we're gonna take and what we need to leave," she says. "I don't figure there'll be any coming back once we leave outta here." She wipes her forehead with the back of her sleeve.
"I hear there's cash in dragon skins. I guess normally I'd ask Lang if he'd wanna do it, but anyone else wanna try skinning that dragon?"
Active Effects Magic Circle Against Evil (50 min), Message (100 min), Resist Energy, Cold (70 min), Good Hope (10 min)
Items Expended: Scroll, Magic Circle Against Evil, Resist Energy Cold L7, Barkskin, Spiderclimb, Silence x2; Potion/Oil, Bless Weapon, Fly; Rope, 50ft (Hopefully with Syr.), Hero point 1
Angus Saturday December 1st, 2007 10:00:38 PM
Angus soon reverts back to his human form. "That was too close for all of us." Angus goes over to Lang and crosses his massive arms over his hairy chest "We will take care of you Lang."
Angus looks for Belkior and Bin "What can be done for Lang out in this wilderness? How can we bring him back to us?"
Angus looks at the horde of loot and then his friends "Lets take a moment to carefully search this place as we are spending the night. No one leaves out the front entrance as none of us are in great shape to handle the Forbiddance. We will have to let Sunshine take care of himself for the night unless someone has an idea on that front. In the morning I can get everyone past the Forbiddance. Right now I can only move half of us. I say we bed down right here, if it is deemed safe after our search."
Angus settles down on the pile of coins as the after effects of the battle take hold of him and waits for the search to be completed. "What a day. I bet you have a long entry in your journal tonight Wynn. Me, it will be just sleep. I long for a bath, a bottle of wine and a feather bed."
DM Cayzle OOC does some housekeeping Sunday December 2nd, 2007 8:23:45 AM
Friends, I only have PC sheets in from three characters: Bin, Xenia, and Wynn.
You three all get a Hobgoblin Seal of Timeliness: Use it as a free action to gain an extra move action. (Remember that you only get 6 slots for seals, and a hobgoblin seal counts for two.)
Lang, Syr, Angus, and Belkior, I need your sheets in asap!!
And soon enough after that, I'll need sheets updated for new possessions, shopping, and xp. Maybe some will advance in level. But I need to know WHEN you last were awarded xp, and I need to know where in the module (or in the preceeding one) was that!
And one more clueless newbie DM question -- why the angst over what to do with Lang? Can't Bin just raise him? Maybe Belkior too?
Scott the Southern Sunday December 2nd, 2007 11:20:55 AM
I sent an email a while back to share Syr's sheet on google docs. You do have access to that correct?
Anyone feel free to correct me...
Last time exp was awarded was before we were mysteriously transported (at the end of last module) to this area which is a quad battle, priest, dragon.
As for the angst, just roleplaying... I think it's the first time a character in this game has died that didn't want to. That is to say we have had characters die before but from what I recall, all were voluntary either abandoned by a player, moved to another game... etc...
Jim F Sunday December 2nd, 2007 1:18:33 PM
Hi Cayzle,
I did send you my character sheet for Angus a while back. I am traveling next week and will not be able to send it until next week.
Most of us have similar (not exact) experience points, but Syr is the exception as he is one level higher than the rest of us.
Jim
Buzz ooc Sunday December 2nd, 2007 1:40:19 PM
I think Bin is lower level then the rest. He's only ninth level. Which is odd. I thought when someone comes into the game, they start out at the same experience as the lowest level person, but it seems, I could be wrong, everyone has at least one level on Bin.
Just so everyone knows, I would like to pull Bin out of the group. I'm not really enjoying him very much and I have another idea I want to run with. One with less to say anyway.
Cayzle, I don't know what is left, but if you will allow me to retire Bin at Stone Gap, that would be cool. he can kill the priest of ga'al there and start building a church to Domi.
I know I need to get Jerry's approval, but I thought I should ask you first.
Kinda a shame, that's some good treasure in that there horde of coins, but oh well.
Syr Sunday December 2nd, 2007 10:53:45 PM
Syr smiles at Wynn, "S'okay Wynn. I DO understand that. It would be kinda tough to leave the big guy behind. The group has to come first. Speaking of the group, let's cheer things up a bit by seeing the loot. Where is the body of that so called 'Father'?"
As he rises from beside Lang he strokes the dog's back softly and unties the rope from his waist, he gives it back to Xenia. "Don't forget this, Red. C'mon Sunshine, let's see if we can get you something to eat also. Anyone else want to try a dragon steak?"
His brow creases for a moment as he hears Angus, "Angus, can you take down that forbidance? I wouldn't want any villagers to stumble into it later."
The Dragon's Lair (DM Cayzle) Monday December 3rd, 2007 4:54:36 PM
You search the main room and find:
Dead Dragon - Scrolls x5 - Rod - Small lion-bird statue - Amulet Dead Priest - Potions x4 - Ring, Rod, full plate armor, warhammer, shield. - Scrolls x3 Pile of coins and gems - 1,000 gp in copper - 1,000 gp in silver - 100 gp - 900 gp in semi-precious gems
The coins and gems are scattered all over the room, and mixed with dirt and dust by the dragon's hovering.
The East Wing is guest quarters. The priest had stayed there, and had set up a small (but unholy) altar to Ga'al there. The nicely appointed three-room suite has furnishings worth 2,000 gp, since they are quite nice. Bulky, though. There are edible (and tasty) rations here.
The West Wing looks to include an arcanist's library, a room with a dragon-size bath, and a scrying room with a mirror in it. You do no more than glance at the mirror ... if you want to look more closely, give me details please.
You have not really searched anywhere yet -- the above is pretty obvious on a glance.
==========
Sorry, Jim, I do not have any earlier version of Angus's sheet.
I've gotten Syr's through Google now.
Buzz, please e-mail me about bringing in a new PC.
Bin 2d8(7+7)+9=23 2d8(8+6)+9=23 2d8(6+5)+9=20 2d8(2+6)+9=17 d8+5=7 d8+5=13 d8+5=10 d8+5=11 d8+5=7 d20+13=29 d20+13=28 d20+13=19 d20+13=30 Monday December 3rd, 2007 5:02:49 PM
Bin begins to tend to all the wounded, first with triage to determine who is in worse shape, then by casting his highest cures available, untill he is out of spells.
Bin second post Monday December 3rd, 2007 6:43:00 PM
I forgot to add these on the hit points list 1,1,1,1
Xenia Monday December 3rd, 2007 8:26:48 PM
"Tanks, Bin." Xenia places a kiss on the human cleric's forehead as he puts some of that healing stuff onto Wynn.
Onto the pile of loot, she throws the captured bow and the shortsword.
"Hey, lets get all the stuff together, huh? Maybe we can figure some of it out while we're waiting here for Angus to get more of his Magic Transpo Door spells back."
Stuff from the Quad Battle 3 arrows glow a strong magic short bow strong magic boots minor magic cloak minor magic
human ranger 2 short swords moderate magic belt strong magic potion that Angus eventually identifies as rage
1/2 orc fighter belt with very strong magic banded mail strong magic great sword moderate magic ring moderate magic
human mage 2 figurines of lions strong magic headband of moderate magic wand cloak of moderate magic
"Meantime, I'll take me a look around this place. Doesn't look like there's a door here anywhere, but maybe there's another way out."
"Nice digs." She pops her head briefly into the guest room. "Wish we could take some of this stuff back to our new place. Maybe some of it, huh? Huh, Wynn?"
But everyone knows that the really good stuff has gotta be in the dragon's rooms, and the dark rogue takes her self there to search. (Search Take10 = 27/29 with Good Hope.) Traps, traps, traps. Traps and secret doors. Xenia makes her way from room to room. At the Mirror Room, she takes out one of her own. From her haversack the rogue removes a small steel mirror and proceeds to search the big Mirror room using the reflection from the small mirror.
OoC: If you'd like, Xenia will go to the Catacombs with the loot and go through the motions so we'll have this done with by the time we're actually out of here.
Angus Monday December 3rd, 2007 9:35:07 PM
OOC: Our concern with Raise dead is the drawbacks as compared to a true resurrection. I am not sure Lang wants to be brought back with the raise dead penalties.
What say you Matt? ---------------------------------
Angus relaxes on the bed of coins as he waits for the search to be complete. Angus ponders where to rest after the hard combat.
Angus breaks out his two bottles of wine "A toast to our fallen friend." Angus pops each bottle and passes them around.
Matt C. Monday December 3rd, 2007 9:51:32 PM
Lang doesn't really have a choice if you decide to raise him. Would he come back as a human?
The level loss back to 9th would stink, especially if everyone leveled up to 11th.
Buzz Monday December 3rd, 2007 10:43:17 PM
True, but that's Bin's level. Unless you want to not post for awile, we can go buy a resurection scroll or three, for future use.
Wynn HP=57/64 Monday December 3rd, 2007 10:49:16 PM
Wynn thanks the cleric for the healing spells [Took 23 + 23 HP] and then works with the others to gather up the loot for others to examine. When Angus passes out the wine, the bard raises his glass to their fallen comrade in silent admiration.
Belkior Tuesday December 4th, 2007 6:23:23 AM
The halfling cleric quietly listens to his companions as they discuss what to do. The items from the dragon's den are well and good, but there's the larger issue of Lang.
"Well, there's one possibility. But it's expensive and not a sure possibility."
Belkior looks around at his companions to ensure that they are listening.
"We could find a senior priest and commission the crafting of a scroll with a spell called True Resurrection. Then, with a hope and prayer, see if I can successfully cast the spell. That way, Lang doesn't lose very much."
OOC - Sorry ... travelling. Will send a CS tonight.
DM Cayzle OOC Tuesday December 4th, 2007 7:18:38 AM
Friends, in traditional D&D, ya casts yer rez, ya pays yer price (component and level), and theres ya go.
But in the Wold, your whole party stands before A GOD, justifies your friend's life to THE GOD, and had better get the answer right. Because THE GOD has been known to strike player characters dead, or maim them, or cause them great grief, if they step out of line.
Given the actual great risk involved, I'm happy to waive the 1 level penalty for using Raise Dead. Who knows what other, GREATER price you may have to pay?
Sometimes you catch Gargul in a good mood, and he's cool about it. Other times he asks you what you would give up in reurn for your friend's life. Or he asks you what payment you would make for his favor. Or he comes looking for followers. It is not a coincidence that Gargul is widely honored among seasoned (read, formerly dead) adventurers.
So lay off the true rez worries, and start worrying about what to say to THE GOD OF LIFE AND DEATH!!
JimF Tuesday December 4th, 2007 8:54:17 AM
If the penalty is waived, lets raise Lang. Matt can decide if he want to keep him after we bring our friend back. Will he be human or bugbear????????????????
Bin Tuesday December 4th, 2007 12:33:43 PM
The Protector removes the items he has been wearing from the quad and dumps them on the pile as well. He takes a drink from the bottle passed to him and hands it off to the next person.
In regard to dragon steaks, a stern look is issued toward the speaker of such words, but with the current carnage in the area, he decides not cause further harm with words.
He pulls out his knife and starts making accurate and precise markings on the dragon, in preperation of skinning it.
"There's going to be a lot of blood once I start cutting, so perhaps we should find someplace else to move it? Could the reverse of enlarge object work, by reducing it down to a managable size?"
ooc: I know there isn't a reduce object spell, but after the recent discussion on creatures or objects after death, I doubt "Reduce Creature" would work now.
More Butchery! (DM Cayzle) Tuesday December 4th, 2007 2:37:04 PM
Bin does some healing. [OOC: Do NOT assume that you are all healed up! Instead, actually keep track of who is at what hp total please!]
Xenia does some searching and finds that there is a secret door in the northern alcove. The mirror in the West Wing is nonmagical.
Angus takes a little well-earned relaxation. Besides, how often do you get to lie on a dragon's bed!
Wynn raises a glass as well.
Belkior does worry about Lang. Would he want to come back? [OOC: Any character can refuse a raise! It would be ironic to pay Gargul a steep price if Lang then retires!] And how will he come back?
Bin helps Xenia gather the quad gear together. He prepares to remove the dragon's hide.
[OOC: To skin a dragon will require a skill check. Try one of these:
Profession Cook or Trapper or equivalent: DC13 Survival DC15 Craft Armor DC17 Knowledge Arcana DC19
The dragon's hide is marred by acid. Treat it as a Large Dragon for the purposes of what size and quality armor you can carve out of it. If you try a skill check and fail, you waste hide such that the dragon is considered Medium (for one failed check) or Small (after two failures).
Also, if you can make a Knowledge Arcana check vs DC10 (or an untrained DC10 Int check), then you can click here.
[OOC: If you want to cast Idents in game, no prob. If you want to go to the Catacombs to get things started, also no prob, BUT you cannot know in character what an item is until you ident it in game or get back to civilization.]
Buzz: Are you saying Bin can't use his Craft skill: Leather working?
Xenia Tuesday December 4th, 2007 4:05:28 PM
Cautiously. Cautiously cautiously, when nothing happens upon looking at the mirror in the dragon's room though a mirror of her own, Xenia turns to look at the dragon's mirror with her unprotected eyes.
WANT!
"I WAN'IT!" The dark rogue comes rushing back into the main room and jumps up into the air a few times. (Without taking flight!) "I wan'it, I wannit, I wannit! We didn't take the mirror on Ogre Mountain 'cause it was too big. So I get to take this one, right? It'll be good in our room, Wynn."
A white smile gleams in her dark face.
"By the way, I also found a secret passage in the alcove place there." She points to the north before swinging around the back of Wynn and wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
"And I also found a big big tub." Her lips home in close up to his ear whispering sweet and warm. "It's big enough we could both fit real nice." She turns her head and her teeth close gently around the lobe of his ear from behind. "We should go." She looks up at Bin as he's fixing to carve up the dragon, separating it from its skin. "We should go now."
Wynn HP 64/64 Tuesday December 4th, 2007 7:18:14 PM
Wynn accepts a final cure light wounds from the cleric (7hp) before heading off with Xenia to see her latest find. He has no idea how he will transport the dragon's mirror, but he knows that talking Xenia into leaving it will not be easy.
When Xenia motions to the bath his mind moves on to other things. He checks it's contents with his finger, not knowing whether red dragons bathe in acid, or at what temperature they like their water. If all is in order he will strip down and join Xenia in a soak.
Belkior d20+7=20 Tuesday December 4th, 2007 9:42:36 PM
The halfling cleric looks over his companions, wondering who most needs healing. When Belkior sees that Bin has already done so, the Paragon moves over to assist Bin with the skinning. This 'help' mainly takes the form of pointing out anatomical features to be avoided, but it still proves useful. Craft Armor = 20
When Xenia announces the discovery of the mirror and the secret door, Belkior perks up.
"Wait! Maybe it's a mirror like the ones in the entrance ..."
Hopefully his warning is not too late.
Cayzle OOC Tuesday December 4th, 2007 9:43:10 PM
First, Craft Leatherwork can be used to skin the dragon on a DC13 check.
Second, please do send me you PC sheets now (even if out of date), AND after xp and gold for this module ... but the module may not be done for a few weeks, given that you still have to do the epilogue. And you all thought it was completely finished. Ha!
Angus Wednesday December 5th, 2007 12:31:35 AM
Angus stands as he drains the last of his wine after passing around the bottles "Alright, enough with the money and searching. Who is going to do the honors for Lang? Lets get some rest and take care of Lang in the morning. This is most likly the safest place we have ever bed down, but we still need guards. Standard shifts. Unfortunatley, Syr that means you are alone."

Getting a strong look from bin, he drops his eyes mumbling to himself, "I was only trying to lighten the mood a bit. I suppose that I deal with my sadness differently than most."
Syr nods at Angus, "From what I am hearing, it won't be for long. Besides, I'm not totally alone." He gives Sunshine a pat and a weak smile to the sorceror.
Settling downfor the night, he rubs his stomach where the bite marks are using the last of his healing power.

Bin seeing his look hurt more then intended, he replies to Syr, "Sorry my friend, you just took me back to the Dragon Celebration at the Ghost, when those steaks were served. I couldn't eat for three days thinking about it."
He saves the Dragon for skinning last as he stays with the group during the exploration. It will take it weeks to cure propely anyway, before it can be used for armor.
ooc: I did a triage check to see who was wounded worse, but I don't know who took what heals, so if Wynn and Syr can get up to full, tell me which healing rolls you used, so I can spread the rest around.

Wynn took the first two and the last cure spells from Bin.
Thanks
The Rest in the Dragon's Lair (DM Cayzle) Wednesday December 5th, 2007 6:14:01 PM
The party decides to camp out, and that works out fine. So does the skinning, which takes a while. Xenia and Wynn take a bath. Belkior and Bin do some healing -- at this point, I'm fine with everyone being cured up after a night's sleep.
Syr thinks about Sunshine, but if the DM is not mistaken, the animal is destined to stay the night outside, short of a dimension door.
Angus makes sure that there are guards and watches set, and he also thinks about ensuring Lang's safety.
The morning sees you all rested, fit and ready for more. More what?
"You know what's, like, missing here, Wynn? It's fluffy towels. Could sure do with some fluffy towels." The girl rogue sighs. Then she uses the next best thing. A little spell from a wand, and she dries the water from her hair and Wynn's. Her hands move over their bodies, warming. (Prestidigitation/UMD 29) She cleans their clothing. Then she moves on to the clothing of the rest of the group. Bin and Belkie are kinda tough. What with blood stains and all.
Later on, before their watch, she curls up on the bed with Wynn and snacks on (oddly) yummy rations.
"Poor Lang. Wonder what it's like to be dead? Though, I guess must be he's already been dead once. What with being Carnationed by the Knot of Drusis thing. He and Florin. But I figure it can't be too great. Else why would folks fight so hard to stay alive, you know?"
"Wonder what kinda magic Belkie and Bin are gonna do on him to bring him back? Poor Lang."
The night passes.
Next morning, the girl rogue scouts the way out via the secret passage. Checking for traps, she eases the door open, but it doesn't go quietly. Hiding her presence the best she can, she listens and looks for danger.
Angus Wednesday December 5th, 2007 9:56:04 PM
Angus feels much better after sleeping in the dragons bed of coins. Angus moves over to Belkior and Bin "Which one of you wants the honor of bringing Lang back to us?"
Angus watches intently and waits to see Lang great hairy chest fill with breath yet again.
Belkior Wednesday December 5th, 2007 11:17:55 PM
The halfling cleric has been praying to Alemi whenever he wasn't sleeping during the night. For so many reasons, both fearful and hopeful.
Belkior hopes that his actions during the fight have not affected his ability to channel the magic granted him by Alemi. And so his prayers were filled with contrition and vows to improve.
At the same time, the stories of Gargul and Alemi have long been entwined during the history of the Wold. Perhaps, his deity would intercede during their visit to the God of the Shadowlands.
When morning comes, Belkior announces to his companions that he is ready to cast the spell that will allow them to petition Gargul.

Wynn Thursday December 6th, 2007 7:36:12 AM
The bard provides back-up to Xenia as she investigates the secret passageway. He stays some 20' behind her, ready to provide the support of a strong sword arm when required.
Syr HP 86/86 Thursday December 6th, 2007 1:55:27 PM
Syr sleeps roughly all night as dreams of the absent Sunshine and Lang fill his head. He spends the morning hours contemplating Father they just defeated. Initially, he was suprised by some of the members hostile reaction to the faith. He has always been content to live life letting people make their own choices and mistakes. Now, looking around the room he thinks that may not be the right thing to do. Filled with internal questions, the elf remains silent throughout the morning pondering his own purpose.
OOC: Used Bin's 10,11, and 1 pt heals.
Bin Thursday December 6th, 2007 5:05:35 PM
BIn waits to see if Belkior's spell works, before trying his own. He has never faced a god before and wonders with curiosity at the thought.
Secret Door? More like Secret Wall! (DM Cayzle) Thursday December 6th, 2007 6:51:05 PM
Xenia and Wynn want to explore the secret door and beyond. But it is not so much a door as a wall! The entire back wall of the northern alcove slides forward -- or would, were you a huge dragon pushing hard! These two alone have no hope.
Angus asks about Lang. Belkior volunteers to cast the spell. Bin is ready too.
Syr is silent and thoughtful.
Rez first? Or a collective heave ho at the secret wall?
Angus Thursday December 6th, 2007 7:34:35 PM
Angus yawns and in the morning and looks around at all of his strange surroundings and then remembers Lang "Lets get Lang back, his strong back will help us move that new wall that Xenia and Wynn found."
Angus rubs his hands together ready to shake Lang's hand once again.
Flame head pulls and tugs and pulls and tugs and hauls and pulls and finally ...
THUP!
She kicks the door.
"STUPID FRACK FRAMMING BARGLE BAG C H U M H A N G E R !"
THUM-THUM THUM-THUM THUM!grrrrrrrrrr ...
"Alright. Lets magic Lang back to life first. Then we'll open the stupid door."
Belkior Thursday December 6th, 2007 10:10:32 PM
The halfling cleric sits down to meditate, praying to Alemi beside the body of his fallen comrade. When Belkior feels that the time is correct, he begins to intone the words and make the gestures of the spell.
"Gargul, we come before you seeking the return of one who died too soon. Please hear my, our, request ..."
The Door To Death (DM Cayzle) Thursday December 6th, 2007 10:43:12 PM
Belkior knows that of all divine spells, those that give access to Death are the most unpredictable. In this case, the spell creates a physical doorway into the Realm of Shadows, and through the doorway you see that strange landscape.
Here, close to the Wold proper, the Realm of Shadows looks like a ghostly version of the world you inhabit. All is grey and cloaked in shifting areas of dark and light. The only color are the glowing dark red rivulets of Woldsblood flowing across the landscape.
There is a path that seems to lead you safely forward beyond the door. Who will enter Gargul's Demense? Will you take Lang's bugbear body?
Wynn d20+4=18 Thursday December 6th, 2007 11:56:45 PM
The bard grabs the bugbear by the front of his jergen and stands him up. The dead weight of Lang's body causes the torso to bend and droop over Wynn's shoulder. He just manages to keep himself upright under the heavy load [Str=18]. "Syr, give me a hand with him!" the bard calls to the monk. "I'm pretty sure we have to bring him in there."
Xenia d20+28=41 d20+18=20 d20+21=26 d20+16=25 Friday December 7th, 2007 10:58:17 AM "Like, wee-er-doh." Comes the rogue's soft whisper as she peers through the doorway from Wynn's side as he lifts the body of their friend in preparation for going through into the great unknown. (Great unknown. So what else is new?)
"I'll lead the way," Xenia announces. She slips into the darkness of Wynn's shadow and is gone save for delicate shuffling sounds detectable only to the keen of ear. (Hide 41, Move Silently 20, Spot 26, Listen 25)
Bin Friday December 7th, 2007 12:13:58 PM
Bin makes sure he has his hammer and straps it to his hip as he prepares to step through with the others. Seeing the large corpse drooping over Wynns shoulder, he gos over and assists with the load.
Cayzle Friday December 7th, 2007 1:43:45 PM
I STILL need a PC Sheet from Angus!
Matt C. - Jim is traveling for work.
Syr Friday December 7th, 2007 8:46:04 PM
Syr uses his smaller but muscular frame to assist Wynn with Lang's body. "This is one of those rare times that you wish Lang had been changed into a pixie, right Wynn?"
The elf takes a deep breath and holds it as he steps through the doorway into the unknown.
Belkior d20+13=24 Friday December 7th, 2007 9:08:24 PM
The halfling cleric takes a moment to recover from casting the spell. After his companions pick up Lang's body and step through into the Realm of Shadows, Belkior looks around the dragon's lair. He's not really sure that this is a check to ensure that everyone who is going to join them has done so, or simply to take what might be the last glimpse of the Wold.
Once the others have stepped through, Belkior will follow. The Paragon looks around at the strange realm, trying to remember what he can from the teachings in the seminary. Knowledge Religion = 24
"Don't touch, or even get close, to the Woldsblood," Belkior says to his companions. Especially Xenia since he figures that the rogue is the one most likely to ... experiment.
Angus Friday December 7th, 2007 11:51:07 PM
ooc: Cayzle, I will send you my character sheet on Monday when I return from my travels.

Angus follows his brave companions into the strange doorway "Is that Woldsblood?" Angus comments, just to talk and keep himself calm. "How does this work Belkior? Where is Lang's soul?"
