Warehouse rumble, 2. (DM Jim) d4=3 d20+10=18 d4=4 Sunday December 2nd, 2007 4:40:02 PM
Things are about to get fired up, as the group falls into action.
Edmund is the first to react and give himself some extra protection for the fight that is going to come. He is filled with a bit of horror at the creature that is fast approaching them.
Conner puts a javelin into the air at the many mouthed creature that is closing on them. It strikes the things flesh and sinks in a good ways. The only real reaction that he can tell from the thing, is a new issue of moans from the many mouths on the thing.
Arm makes use of his unpredictable rod and with a little bit of luck, gets a fireball that erupts around the druid.
Kadaz has other problems on his mind as he worries about the bodies coming to life and helping out the enemy. With no other weapons than his axe and shield, he makes himself ready for the onslaught of the creature that approaches.
Shadow put up an arrow that he has been holding onto while the rest of the group prepared. Satisfied as the arrow thuds into his target he is soon putting another arrow into the air as well. Alas, this one glances off the armored skin of the druid and bounds away into the warehouse somewhere.
Thar turns his attention to the circle that is carved into the stone floor of the warehouse, after turning his attention away from the fight. He knows the circle for a holding circle...often used to hold demons or other terrible creatures of some power. Digesting that he puts an arrow into the air as well and it thuds into the druid, who does not seem to be too bothered about anything.
Kirsten moves slightly forward to put herself in defense of the rest and near Kadaz. To aid herself she intones a prayer that gives her the favor of her deity in this battle...then she waits.
Mira is angry and incensed that her spell had no effect. It must have something to do with that holding circle carved into the stone floor. Pulling out the things that she needs, she soon launches another spell...but not at the enemy as she fades from sight.
The large creature continues to move towards the group and as it draws closer to all of you. You feel an odd sensation in your heads as the constant gibbering of the creature seems to be compeling you. As it gets within twenty feet of Kirsten and Kadaz, one of the many mouths stops gibbering and a vile greenish yellow liquid is spurted from that mouth, directed at Kadaz(ranged touch - hit: 18 and damage: 4).
The druid, seeming to have not been bothered a whole lot by spell or arrows, reaches up and pulls out the first of the arrows from his smoking body. "You do disappoint me...you have a test and one that you will fail. Of that I am sure." The smile on his face widens as he watches the creature move in closer and engage the group, then he begins to laugh. There is a flash of green light as he touches his own body and the parts of flesh that you can see, begin to harden into what appears to be bark.
[Everyone - Will DC 15 or be effected as if by a Confusion spell for 2 rounds.]

The gibbering of the slimy beast, so much like Edmund's own endless prattle, doesn't affect the half-elf mage one jot. (Will Save: 23)
After the initial shock wears off, Edmund peers at the slobbering entity and realises what it is. "A gibbering mouther!" he exclaims to the others. "Quite dangerous. It pulls people in and eats them with all of its mouths! I think it can spit acid, too. Be careful!" (Knowledge Arcana: 28)
Edmund casts another protective spell on himself, this one to enhance his natural resistances, and continues his backwards movement another five feet, trying to put space between himself and both enemies.

As the acid burns Kadaz he shakes his head, flinging little drops into the air. His eyes clear and he catches a good view of the advancing creature.
[i]OOC: is the gibbering mouther's confusion a spell-like ability? If so, Kadaz saves, thanks to +2 dwarf resistance. If not, Kadaz fails. [i]

Edmund is unaffected by the insane ramblings of the gibbering mouther. He calls out warnings to his friends about the nature of the beast, though the acid part is being displayed at this very moment. He casts another defensive spell upon himself and moves back out of the way.
Arm is not affected by the gibbering of the creature either, though he wishes that he could have placed the creature on his own. Hoping for the best he once again levels his rod at the druid, but nothing seems to happen.
Kadaz finds himself on fire a little as the acid eats into flesh, clothing and just about anything else it gets on. Unlike his friends though, he is not able to ignore the insanity that the gibbering mouther produces and he finds himself fleeing out of the warehouse doors that he had earlier entered. [supernatural ability]
Shadow slips his bow away as he slips into the shadows. He plans to get behind the druid and hopefully put an end to him quickly.
Conner finds himself assaulted by the mouther as well, but he is able to hold onto his sanity...though at one point it appeared that he might join Kadaz. With more determination he puts a pair of javelins into the air and aimed at the mouther. The first one strikes true and has some effect, while the other flies harmlessly by.
Thar knows that he has nothing to fear from the mind effects of the mouther and he skirts it to get at the druid. Both of his weapons can find no purchase upon the body of the druid.
Kirsten is able to shake off the effects of the mouther and moves in with her warhammer to pound at the thing. Though she does damage to the spongy body, she finds that her weapon is not as effective as it could be.
Mira ???.
The druid shifter smiles at Thar as he closes, but it is a smile filled with evil. "A choice I think will have to be made." Without a lot a trouble(Will 16) he brings around a quarterstaff at unprotected parts of Thar, if any[hit: 29/24 and damage: 13+4ice/10+4ice].
The gibbering mouther seems to start cooing with delight as Kirsten moves in closer to it. It lunges forward in one attack, teeth trying to find purchase on your body[hit: 14/32*crit25*/21/15/23/22 and damage: 1/1*crit3*/1/1/1/1, grapple: 28].
For some reason the floor of the warehouse starts to tremble and shake. This is followed by the sound of an explosion outside of the warehouse, though it is a little ways off. As the druid shifter continues to smile...it soon turns into a laugh. This is especially true when you hear the sounds of screaming from outside of the warehouse. "See...there is always a decision to be made." He falls into more laughter, but never takes his eyes off of you.
[Note: Gibbering Mouther is immune to criticals and cannot be flanked.]

Mira is also able to let the effects of the mouther wash over and past her. She is able to recognize the creature for what it is and it does not instill much confidence. So, she slips around behind the many barrels and crates in the warehouse to put herself in a flanking position with Thar.
This Round
Mira brings her hand out to touch the druid and a spell discharges. She hopes for the best as this one has resisted a lot of spells lately and she might have a guess that he is no slouch in the magical department either.
Arm makes use of his rod once again and gets a lightning bolt that streaks towards the druid. He even goes as far as to taunt the druid as he has been taunting them.
Shadow has set himself up in a nice position to get at the druid...all he needs to do is wait for the moment to strike.
Kadaz runs off into the streets as fast as he can. He passes Birdie, who watches him go with some interest; but who stays put as he was told.
Conner puts up another two javelins at the mouther as it struggles with Kirsten. His first javelin buries into the body of the beast but the second is off the mark...luckily he does not hit Kirsten with either of his shots. It is then just a matter of him moveing so that he can aid her further.
Thar sends his weapons in at the druid after getting smacked once himself. His first blade is turned by the druid's armor and the second is not close enough to even have to worry about.
Edmund backs off only slightly as he starts into casting another spell. He hopes that the assistance will get here soon enough to be of real help to the group.
Kirsten is just able to struggle and slip out of the grasp of the mouther's bite. She beats a hasty retreat towards Edmund as she knows that she will be of little help against this beast.
The druid shifter growls as he is struck again by a spell[Save 20]. His eyes narrow but there is also a bit of happiness there as well. It is as if he is winning something in losing to you. "You have chosen death...." His form begins to ripple and change before your very eyes and just before he fully turns, you catch the last of his statement. "...but not for yourselves." With this you once again note that he is using the same four armed gorilla form that he used in the caves.
The mouther moves itself towards Conner and it attempts to take a bite out of him[hit: 28 and damage: 1; grapple: 30]
The noise from outside has gotten even louder. The screams are of pure terror and there are voices mixed in that are shouting for help. Kadaz, even with his confusion fogged mind, makes not of another mouther out here in the streets. It is larger than the one inside the warehouse and has just spit out a human body that crumples to the ground...drained of blood. Those inside the warehouse can only wonder about what is going on outside.

As Edmund finishes his spell, a spiky, unpleasant-looking creature appears immediately next to the mouther. It looks like a cross between a porcupine and a skeletal dog and does not look entirely friendly. That aside, it is clearly assisting the party on Edmund's behalf, because at the half-elf Wizard's command, the creature launches into a savage attack upon the mouther...
The howler doesn't need to move, having appeared right next to the mouther, so it immediately sinks its teeth into the gibbering foe. These teeth are sharp, pointy, and numerous. Conner sends up another pair of javelins at the fast approaching creature. The first one hits and the creature seems to slow slightly, but the next javelin sails right on by.
Arm is disappointed that his spell did not have full effect upon the druid(sorry forgot to make some display of reaction). The rod once again comes up so that he can give it another go. Unfortunately it starts to rain inside of the warehouse and he is suddenly soaked, right along with Conner, Edmund and Kirsten.
Kadaz finally comes to his senses and though he can see another one of those creatures in the street, he turns and races back to the warehouse. Though he only gets part way there he does hear cries for help as he goes and another person is grabbed by the mouther and swallowed whole.
Shadow waits for the druid to cast another spell or for the druid to get distracted so that he can put a good stick to him. Seeing the four armed gorillon not going to cast any spells he moves in and his dagger drives home.
Thar decides to sacrifice his own body and health so that the others can take care of the druid and mouther. His own attacks are unable to get to the druid as they are turned by the armor of the druid.
Edmund's spell is finally cast and a spikey creature, much like a dog appears near the mouther. The howler throws itself into the battle at its master's command. Teeth find purchase upon the things flesh and it is starting to look even worse than before. Edmund meanwhile reaches out and touches Kirsten as he intones another spell, despite the fact he is getting wet.
Kirsten, now wet, finds that the screams from outside are drawing her attention. She feels that they need to help the innocent civilains as well and voices this opinion. But she heads in the direction of the druid instead.
Mira begins the process of casting a new spell that will once again turn her invisible, but she finds a set of claws coming at her vulnerable body(Concentration DC 31 or lose spell).
The shifted druid feels the bite of blade but does not give it much mind, he can take some damage after all. What is bad is that he turns into a dervish as he more or less spins in place, delivering blows to almost everyone around him[Thar - hit: 29/33 and damage: 10/11][Mira - hit: 21/20 and damage: 12/9][Shadow - hit: 21 and damage: 8].
The gibbering mouther takes stock of the new creature that is attacking him and sends a series of teeth at the creature[hit: 27/32*crit24*/16/25/29/30 and damage: 1/1*crit3*/1/1/1/1, grapple: 26].
The screams continue from outside and it sounds like there is big trouble out there to boot. Kadaz finds that several of the citizens of Plateau yell for his assistance as he races back to the warehouse. Lots of people are running in every direction as well and a few are trampled in the stampede to get away from the larger gibbering mouther outside.
[Conner - Please substitute the following as the attack for the mouther as it should have been a projectile spit instead.[hit: 28 and damage: 4, Fort DC 18 or be blinded for 4 rounds] Even if you fail the save, I am allowing your attacks as it was my fault.
Arm (AC 20 base+bless, HP 33/33) Thursday December 6th, 2007 6:06:57 AM
Shaking his head in frustration, Arm pockets his rod as he advances a bit east. After about 25 feet, he stops and draws both of his swords, intending to address the druid on a more personal level next round.

Conner shields his face from the acid ejected by the mouther [Fort=24] although some of it does burn his arms. He once again reaches into his magical quiver and hurls two more javelins in quick succession, trying in each case to avoid hitting the summoned howler. Both javelins miss their mark [Hit AC=16 and 19].

(Thanks Mira for reminding me of the flanking bonus. I was focusing on the mouther so much (i.e. no flanks vs him) that I forgot about my own bonus' vs the druid. ;-) )
Cursing at the druid's ability to continually strike him, Thar shakes off the pain and decides to give it one more round. Hopefully he'll have some effect soon.
"I too am worried about those poor civilians." Thar says (via Message) to Kirsten "and we need to finish these two foes quickly, as your and my healing abilities are going to be sorely needed outside."
Slashing and stabbing with both swords, it seems his luck has finally turned and he appears to have managed to struck solid blows. The flank attack appears to finally paid off. (Finally ;-) )

The howler continues its frenzied assault on the mouther, dodging effectively its attempt to grapple it. (Howler's opposed grapple check: 30)
Edmund observes the situation with satisfaction, and readies a spell to help his little friend finish the mouther for good and all. With a word and a gesture, the howler's accuracy is greatly enhanced. (True Strike)
Meanwhile, the Howler once again sinks its teeth into the mouther, writhing furiously, still trying to drive its quills into the quivering creature. (Bite hits AC31 for 16 damage, 4 quills miss)

(( OOC: Okay, there seems to be some confusion as to what the spell Bless actually does.
As quoted from PHB 205 "Each ally gains a +1 Morale Bonus on attack rolls and saving throws against fear effects."
An attack roll is (PHB 305) "a roll to determine whether an attack hits."
So, Arm's AC would not be modified by bless. Mira's concentration check would not get any bonus from bless. You just add +1 to your chance to overcome a target's AC.
Sorry guys. I just wanted to clear that up before there is more confusion.))

The mouther goes down under the assault by the howler. It's body seems to double as it slumps to the floor and then there is the sound of a great expenditure of air as the thing deflates.
The group continues it's assault upon the druid. Thar gets in a pair of hits on the druid. Kristen moves forward and is also able to get in a strike upon the druid as well.
Kadaz moves back outside to engage the larger mouther outside and help out the citizens of the fair city. Though he is not able to get into range right away, he knows that he can reach the beast very soon.
The druid seems to stop for a few seconds as something seems to change and the gorillon seems to grimace in pain. Though you are not sure what has happened, he seems stunned for a few seconds and loses out on any offense he could have done.
-----------------------------------------------
As the group inside the warehouse continues their assault upon the druid, he seems to be weakening as several small rivelets of blood are coursing down his body.
Arm gets one of his attacks through and draws more blood from the druid. Conner puts up a pair of javelins, though his target is the druid this time around. One strikes while the other goes harmlessly wide, even missing the group.
As the rest of the group move about and go with their own aid for the battle, Edmund calls his howler to him. Both are soon out the door to aid Kadaz with a larger problem.
The druid is struck several times by blade and spell. The gorillon seems to lose some of it's bluster as it once again falls into a number of attacks upon the group surrounding it[Thar - hit: 29/30 and damage: 5/7][Kirsten - hit: 25/30 and damage: 8/6][Shadow - hit: 25 and damage: 5].
Outside Kadaz is finally able to get within melee range of the giant mouther outside. It has already drained eight or ten of the citizens that run around the street. Even with this giant beast in the street many of the citizens are standing around as if in a daze, while others just cower on the ground.

Once he reaches the outside, Thar will stop and take stock of the situation. Kadaz and Ed look OK, so he'll turn his attention to the crowd. If he sees any children or elderly people being threatened by the summoned foe, then he'll run over and grab them, taking them clear of the danger. (Do I need some sort of roll to grab them? I assumed that to grab the hand of an old lady or 4 year old shouldn't be too hard for a PC???)
If he doesn't see anyone threatened currently, he will try to go and begin first aid on anyone that is injured.
He'll definitely avoid attacking their foe (at least for now), since that will negate his PfE defenses.

With the combined might of the group inside of the warehouse the druid starts to look rather bad. As he growls and starts to cast a spell, it is interrupted by another strike and the words die on his lips. As his gorillon head turns to look at Shadow, you can tell that the light in his eyes is fading. Ever so slowly the gorillon shape starts to fade till the dull gray and featureless form of a shapeshifter is left. The shapeshifter lurches forward as if he is going to try and make a run for it...but instead, gurgles and falls into Kirsten.
Outside of the warehouse, Kadaz has finally gotten close enough to unleash his first attack upon the giant gibbering mouther outside. His axe cuts into the things rubbery flesh, though nothing is released from the things wound. He is soon joined by Edmund who also calls out to the citizens, though few of them seem to be listening. You both feel the sound of that insane gibbering in your heads again as you get close(Will DC 16 or confusion for 1d4 rounds). Thar is soon outside of the warehouse door and charging towards the fight, pausing only long enough to heal himself up. All those outside can tell that this gibbering mouther is far larger than the one that you fought inside and it has a veratious appetite.
The giant gibbering mouther turns it's attention towards both Kadaz and Edmund and it sends out a series of teeth to bite at Kadaz, who is the closest(Kadaz - hit: 17/34/30/23/34/27 and damage: 1/1/1/1/1/1; grapple: 31/30/21/38/21/33).
Enemy Giant Gibbering Mouther AC: 26
-----------------------------------------------
Thar has many choices before him as there are a number of people that he could grab and pull out of the way. There is a little girl that is all hunkered down and trying to make herself as small as possible. There is also an old couple that seem to be staring off into space as if lost. There are also at least seven other people that he could reach as well. Still the young girl is closest and he grabs her, moving her to be hidden in a side alley that is right nearby.
Back in the warehouse the rest of the group finds the druid shifter doppleganger is dead, though leaning against Kirsten when he fell. There are still the screams from the outside and you figure that the fight out there has not ended yet.
Edmund moves a little closer and fires off a spell of his own to help and turn the fight to their side. His howler meanwhile has moved around to flank the beast, but finds that all those eyes and teeth make it hard to flank.
The giant gibbering mouther(Will 25) will pull Kadaz inside of it's body if it can maintain a hold from last round. If that fails than it once again sends a series of teeth at Kadaz and tries again, but this time it includes the howler in it's attacks(Kadaz - hit: 35*crit22*/21/28/21 and damage: 1*crit3*/1/1/1; grapple: 32/20/28/30)(Howler - hit: 18/25 and damage: 1/1; grapple: 26/38).
The rest of the group back inside of the warehouse either make it to just outside the warehouse door or are looting the druid shifter body(that is what I will assume till noted otherwise :)).
[Flanking does not apply any bonuses to damage, only to the ability to hit. Sorry for all those that were applying it to both.]
Conner d20+3=7 d20+3=17 Wednesday December 12th, 2007 10:42:42 PM OOC: Flanking does provide a rogue with the ability to inflict additional sneak attack damage which can be significant 1D6 per level of rogue!!!
Conner watches the shapeshifter collapse and immediately heads for the door and the dangers that wait outside. He is almost overcome by the insane gibbering inside his head but manages to shake loose from the effect [Will save=17 used a hero point!]
Arm (AC 19 HP 33/33) Bless Message Thursday December 13th, 2007 6:01:20 AM
Smiling grimly as the druid finally falls, Arm shouts to the rest, "This battle is not over. Let us join the others outside to see what assistance we can provide!".
He then sets out with all possible speed to join his companions outside. Depending on how much distance he can cover, he will assess the situation and perhaps aid one of the bystanders. If not, he will attempt to do so next round.
Kadaz (AC 26, 28 vs evil, HP 72/86) d20+3=21 d20+14=31 Thursday December 13th, 2007 6:52:32 AM
This time Kadaz is ready for the gibbering in his mind and he manages to resist its confusing sound (wills ave 21).
However, the mouther seems just to roll over Kadaz and sucks him into its viscous body! Kadaz struggles to regain his freedom and escape being another snack for this creature. (31 to escape grapple?)
"Help guys, it ate me!" Kadaz announces to the group using the message spell.
(of the first 6 attacks, 4 hit, grapple checks are high enough that Kadaz is engulfed)

Shadow will use his foot to make sure the druid is not faking it and is really dead. If so, he will then move to the entrance of the warehouse where he still hears the commotion outside. He will then judge the best way he can help out there.
Thar ail Baerer, Ac 24/25, hp 30/58, Bless, PfE, Message Thursday December 13th, 2007 12:39:19 PM
Seeing that is companions are focusing on the mouther, Thar (after leaving the little girl in an alley) runs and grabs the old couple (L arm grabs one and R arm grabs another). He'll hustle them to safety (dragging them if needed) and then turn to find his next person to save.
Kirsten (AC 22, HP 59/81, Divine Favor, Bless, Displacement) Thursday December 13th, 2007 1:43:21 PM
As the dead shapeshifter druid falls against her, the paladin shudders and steps aside to let it fall to the floor. She then quickly makes her way outside with the others, taking a quick look around.
At the sight of the bodies, she cringes and then if able will move to aid a few of the civilians to get them somewhere relatively safe.

((OOC: Arm, are you a bard? If so, are you high enough in level that we get Inspire Courage? It would certainly help as it provides both a bonus to overcome AC *and* a bonus to damage rolls.))
Edmund's howler finds itself seized by the mouther (Opposed Grapple Check to avoid Hold: 29/22 vs Mouther's 26/38). Once engulfed, it does not remain so for long.
The howler furiously writhes and manages to burst free (Opposed Grapple Check to Escape, in place of attack: 35 [Nat. 20]), but the effort has tired the creature out for the moment. It turns and runs off towards Edmund, putting 30 feet between itself and the Greater Mouther. (Howler Will Save 23)
Edmund, on the other hand, watches to see if the Mouther is dazed. Hoping that it is, but fearing that it is not, he moves until he is 40 feet from the Mouther. Then, he makes a curious sign with his hand, beckoning to the monster whilst speaking words which seem to twist through the air. Whatever he has said, the words themselves seem calming, soporific, and endearing. (Edmund's Will Save = 25 (forgot to add +1 from Resistance)[/b/
Once the spell is complete, Edmund makes to test its success. "Release the dwarf at once," Edmund says firmly, but kindly. "We are all friends here." [b](Charm Monster, DC 19 Will Negates)

Take it to the streets, 1.5. (DM Jim) d4=2 d20+10=20 Thursday December 13th, 2007 9:57:43 PM
Some members of the group start into getting those citizens that are dazed, stunned or confused by the monster out of harms way. All together there are still at least three to four dozen citizens in the streets that seem to be out of it. There are also some still running around trying to get away as well.
Shadow finds that the druid is really dead. First it had hit the floor like a ragdoll as Kirsten moves to the side and then a couple of well placed kicks.
Kadaz finds himself engulfed in the body of the gibbering mouther and he makes use of the spell the group shares to let his friends know of his plight. Now that he is inside the thing he can feel his very life being sucked out of him(2 Constitution drained).
Edmund fires off another spell that he is hoping will help out the group. His command to release the dwarf seems to fall on deaf ears...if this beast has ears. It appears that the thing is not going to listen at all. His howler is able to escape and returns to Edmund's side for further orders.
The gibbering mouther(Will 20) seems to be rather happy that it has another meal in it's body. It rolls closer to Edmund and once again six mouths come shooting out. Thought they are not aimed at Edmund, but at several of the innocents that are milling around as if in a daze. Each mouth latches onto a victim and two more of them are hauled inside of the beast with poor Kadaz.
There is still no show of the cities forces or anyone else that could assist in the safety of the citizens. Then again, was anyone able to get away and even try to get help. Surely the explosion that you heard would have roused someone to have a look. As this thought might be going through some heads you notice that one of the warehouses down the street is now a mess and on fire...a large fire.
Enemy Giant Gibbering Mouther AC: 26
[Sorry, did not mean to say that flanking did not apply to the rogue's ability to deal sneak attack damage. It just does not boost normal damage any.]
Arm (AC 19 HP 33/33) Bless Message Friday December 14th, 2007 5:58:17 AM
Once he reaches the outside, Arm notices the warehouse on fire in the distance. Clearing his throat, he begins to sing a song of heroes overcoming the odds no matter what and hopes that his companions can hear it (bardsong: inspire courage +2-+2 to AC and attk/dmg rolls).
OOC: Thanks for the reminder Ed..I need to get to work earlier so that I can research my CS more...lol! Either that, or do it at home...hm, work or home...tough choice ;)

Edmund and his Howler are uplifted by the sudden singing from around them. Despair seems to pass away and, filled with courage and confidence, they are ready to face the Mouther again. The Howler rushes towards the creature and, once again, savagely tears into it--this time, successfully. (Hits AC 31 for 23 damage (+2 from Ins. Cour.)
Edmund, on the other hand, wracks his brain for something, anything, that might help in this situation. He gestures at the creature and declares, "The Dwarf is poisonous! Spit him out!" (Suggestion, DC 18 Will Negates)
Having done this, Edmund retreats a further 30 ft. away from the Mouther, determined not to be drawn into its cavernous maw.

CDM Jerry Friday December 14th, 2007 3:56:59 PM
Greetings Woldians!
I am excited to tell you that BIG, even HUGE changes are coming for The Wold. The Wold is evolving and everyone one of you will be affected. But I'm not going to tell you about it here. I'm just going to whet your appetite:
--A new type of game --Major changes to the website --Greater choice for both DMs and players!
I will begin introducing the new material in the LnB sometime between now and Monday. You will need to start watching that board daily to understand what is going to be happening. This process will be ongoing for a bit, so you really do need to view the Loot 'n Booty board daily starting now.
I'm mass emailing this and also posting it on every game board so everyone sees it.
Enjoy your weekend!
Jerry
Kirsten (AC 22, HP 59/81, Bless, Displacement, Divine Favor) Friday December 14th, 2007 4:51:55 PM
The paladin will continue to assist the helpless civilians upon the street, trying to get them away from the mouther and out of danger. Kirsten knows that her warhammer has little effect on the creature, and, more important to her is the safety of the people.
As she does this, she will turn to the others and say, "Kill the mouther before it can kill anyone else. I'll do what I can to get the people out of the way."

Kadaz slowly moves his hand towards his belt in order to pull a dagger. Will this work? But the viscous mass holds his arm and he can't quite get the dagger out. (strength check 9 to pull a dagger).
Kadaz uses the message spell to send a warning. "Don't come close to this creature. It is very good at pulling you in."
Arm (AC 19 HP 33/33) Monday December 17th, 2007 5:58:56 AM

Edmund (OOC) Monday December 17th, 2007 3:51:59 PM Don't forget to add +2 to your attack roll and +2 to your damage roll thanks to Arm's song!
Also I have a funeral/luncheon and then possibly a dinner to attend on Tuesday. I should be able to post, provided the DM post doesn't go up too early. If I miss somehow, Edmund's next action is to cast invisible on Kirsten, and then he'll retreat (some more).

Kadaz (AC 26, HP 64/78, con 14/16, ( Old HP (72/86)) Monday December 17th, 2007 8:15:05 PM
As Kadaz slowly floats in the creature he can see the others trying to figure out how to rescue him. "Try fire! Things like this may not like to be dried out" he yells out through the Message spell. As he talks he slowly moves his hand towards a pants pocket. In there is something that may be helpful.
Mira (AC 22, 32/53 Mage Armor, Shield, Message, Bless, Combat Casting, Inspire Courage) Monday December 17th, 2007 9:19:18 PM
Mira dashes after the group, leaving the dead behind in the warehouse. This is as bad as when nature ran amok... she thinks to herself.
Noting the size of their adversary, Mira reaches out to lay a hand on the broad back of the fighter, Conner. "This spell will double your height and multiply your weight by 8!" she shouts above the noise of fire and screams. Arm begins a song of courage for his fellows and for those around that maybe in need of a little inspiration.
Thar brings into being a spiritual weaponal warhammer to slam itself into the gibbering mouther. The hammer slams into the beast though how effective it was is unknown.
Edmund sends back in his howler to attack the gibbering mouther. The howler is able to maul the mouther, but once again it is unknown how effective it was. Edmund meanwhile tries again to give the mouther orders as he casts another spell.
So far Shadow and Kirsten are still moving about trying to get the citizens out of harms way. They are successful in getting a couple more people out of the way...but there are many more in need.
Conner moves into help out his buddy Kadaz and hopefully get him free before he is eaten alive. His sword bites into the mouther and ices over the things skin where it connects.
Kadaz finds that he is unable to pull out a dagger to get himself out of the mess that he is in. He calls out a warning to the group and hopes that they do not sacrifice themselves to save him.
The gibbering mouther(Will 25) once again sends out all of it's mouths. Four of them are aimed at the howler that is becoming a pest(Howler - hit: 34/24/34/26 and damage: 1/1/1/1 ; grapple: 32/22/35/29). The other two mouths move into try and latch upon Conner and then attempt to pull him in(Conner - hit: 22/27 and damage: 1/1 ; grapple: 24/33). As it does this it spits out the two citizens that it had sucked in and drained dry. Kadaz feels his life fading even further as the beast drains him even more(CON 4).
-----------------------------------------------
Arm falls into his new role of moving a citizen into a side alley and out of harms way.
Shadow puts up an arrow at the mouther, but his arrow is deflected by the rubbery skin of the beast.
Edmund casts another spell and soon there are four Edmunds where one had stood earlier. He moves back as the howler throws itself at the mouther once again.
Kirsten cannot stay out of the fight any longer and moves towards the mouther to help out Kadaz and those that are attempting to save him. Though she is unable to reach him right away...she will be there very soon.
Kadaz calls out ideas as he reaches into a pocket to retrieve something that he hopes will be helpful in getting him out and the group being safe.
Mira moves forward and though it brings her close, but not too close, to the mouther...she is still safe. She casts a spell upon Conner that puts him on even footing with the giant gibbering mouther.
The gibbering mouther is having a lot of fun as it sucks on Kadaz. It sends out another four mouths aimed at the howler that is becoming a pest(Howler - hit: 22/28/24/30 and damage: 1/1/1/1 ; grapple: 20/33/38/30), unless it is already inside of the mouther. The other two mouths move in again and try to latch upon Conner and then attempt to pull him in(Conner - hit: 26/19 and damage: 1/1 ; grapple: 31/25). Kadaz feels his life fading even further as the beast drains him even more(CON 1).
[Depending on how the rolls go for both Conner and the Howler, I will allow for repost for the last combat round for those that need to make them.]
Arm (AC 19 HP 33/33) d100=71 6d6(1+2+5+2+3+4)=17 Tuesday December 18th, 2007 6:06:58 AM
While he continues singing, Arm takes a chance and gestures with his rod at the mouther. He is rewarded with a fireball that streaks toward it (Fireball at target or 100 ft. straight ahead, 6d6 damage (Reflex DC 15 half)).
Afterwards, he thinks that perhaps it wasn't such a good idea after all, as Kadaz is now in harm's way, but perhaps no more so than the situation he is already in.
Kadaz (AC 26, HP 62/62, con 10/16, ( Old HP max 86)) Tuesday December 18th, 2007 6:56:59 AM
Kadaz now has the trick of moving in this viscous liquid ... just move very slowly. His hand reaches into his pocket and his fingers close around a little bit of bone. He leaves the bone in the pocket at he mumbles to himself:
[c] Bone of Trick 'n' bone of Treat give me health and give him harm.[/c]
Immediately Kadaz feels better. Hopefully this big bag thing will feel worse. (active magical finger bone to heal 14 hp and cause 14 hp to the creature.)

Conner feels Mira's magic course through his body. at the same moment the mouther tries to grab him. The first mouth slides off his leg, while the second latches on. The creature fails to grab him as he jerks his leg away[Grapple=35].
The now massive fighter swings his enlarged sword and connects solidly across it's body [Hit AC=38 for 18+5cold = 23 HP]. As the blade clears the mouther's form, the fighter reverses his grip and rips the blade back across the creature, aiming for eyes if he can [Hit AC=33 (Nat 20) for 14+3 cold = 17 HP].
When the creature repeats it's attack [OOC not sure why the creature gets two rounds of attack here] it once again strikes with a single stalked mouth and misses with another. Shadow says to those that are not engaged in the fight.

The Edmunds have escaped the reach of the Mouther, but see that Kirsten has plunged into danger. Turning around, they hurries back towards the mouther until they are once again 40ft. from it. Thereupon They cast their strongest spell with a single word of command. The voice of four Edmunds cut through the screams and shouts like a knife as if a missile, hurtling towards the gibbering foe. (Lesser Geas, DC 19 Will Negates)
The spell cast, the Edmunds speak in unison with authority, drawing themselves up to full height. "Release those you have engulfed, and cease your attacks at once!" the Edmunds command. "Go forth from this city to..." and here they pause, for Edmund had not thought of what quest to command the Mouther upon. "Go forth from this city to The Vague Lands!" they finish, settling on somewhere suitably far away.
Hoping that this, his strongest and most potent spell, will have some effect, Edmund watches the Mouther to see if there is some result.

Arm fires off a fireball in the direction of the mouther and it slams into the monster, exploding. Those nearest the beast are engulfed in the flames as it detonates. Several citizens that had been cowering are flash fried in the explosion and die instantly...but some are not as lucky, they are literally burning alive...screaming.
Kadaz finds himself also engulfed in the flames from the fireball and he is still able to get the bone given to him to work. The bone that he clutches in his hand turn slightly warm, but not from the fireball, and then crumbles to ash in his pocket.
Conner slams his sword into the gibbering mouther and does a good deal of damage in his enlarged form. He is lucky in pulling away from the mouther. His anger serves him well to rip himself away from the beast and his sword drives in again.
Shadow has a flash of brilliance as he fished out a rope and sends it flying in the direction of the beast(Reflex DC 14 from Kadaz to catch the rope). He calls out for the others to help him pull their poor friend out before it is too late.
Thar fires an arrow at the beast and missed neatly. Luckily he had been firing high or he might have hit someone else. His spiritual hammer slams in twice at the beast and one of the attempts slams into the skin of the thing, before it disappears.
The howler is neatly pulled inside of the gibbering mouther but disappears just as fast as the spell that binds it ends. Edmund once again tries to bring a spell to bear upon the mouther and get it to release all those that it is holding. It should then leave town by the most direct route most likely.
Kirsten brings her hammer slamming into the mouther, though she doubts it will be of little effect. She has to do something to help out the citizens and Kadaz, who is trapped inside.
Mira sends in a barrage of magic missile as she sees that the spell cast by Edmund does nothing to the mouther.
The mouther(Will 21) is weakening as it drains more life out of Kadaz(CON drain 2) and expels the latest of it's two victims. Mouths shoot out again, but there seems to be less force behind them than before(Conner - hit: 22/35*crit25*/34 and damage: 1/1*crit3*/1 ; grapple: 31/37/26)(Kirsten - hit: 31/35*crit35*/35*crit22* and damage: 1/1*crit6*/1*crit3* ; grapple: 28/21/19).

The group continues its assault upon the dread gibbering mouther. Though a number of attacks are thrown at the mouther it is able to avoid the biggerst majority of them.
Kadaz finds himself unable to catch the rope that is tossed his direction, but soon finds that he is being tossed the other end by Shadow(Reflex DC 14 for Kadaz to catch the rope).
With the options becoming increasingly lessened the group falls into a slightly more defensive posture. Thar heads in and sends healing into Conner, hoping that his help will allow the enlarged fighter to do his duty.
Mira throws caution to the wind and literally throws herself at the gibbering mouther, a spell forming on her lips. It is not hard to get close enough to maybe touch Kadaz...the problem is reaching in far enough(Reflex DC 14 to touch Kadaz).
Edmund, with his success with the last summoned monster, starts to cast another spell as he backs up further to keep his distance and stay away from the very dangerous combat.
The gibbering mouther slings a mouth in the way as Mira comes jumping in to tag Kadaz(Mira[AoO] - hit: 20 and damage: 1). The focus of the beast seems to shift as it finds more tasty meals near it than it previously had. Three of it's mouths try to latch onto the form of Mira as she is heading towards the ground after her jump(Mira - hit: 22/28/27 and damage: 1/1/1 ; grapple: 36/24/34). It's other three sets of mouths move in at the hammer wielding Kirsten and tries to nab her as well(Kirsten - hit: 24/26/26 and damage: 1/1/1 ; grapple: 36/27/37). Kadaz(CON drain 3) is still struggleing inside the beast and feeling weaker all the longer that he remains inside the thing.

Conner feels Thar's touch and greatfully accepts the healing power of his spell. There is no time for niceties however, and the enlarged fighter steps forward (5') and presses home his attack, the large blade glows softly in the light, frozen beads of blood and innards adhere to the cold metal.
Conner slashes with all his force at the creature that has engulfed the taciturn dwarf and now threatens to do the same to the sorceress. His first attack finds purchase [Hit AC=32 for 18+4 cold = 22HP], but his second falls wide as he diverts the blade at the last moment to avoid hitting another of the Mithril Order [Hit AC=24].

The Edmunds cease their chanting and gesturing and suddenly, with a crackling roar much like the sound of the fires in the city, a hell hound bursts into existence immediately next to the mouther. The Edmunds point at the mouther and the fearsome summon seems to understand the command for, at once, it rounds on its gibbering foe and belches forth a 10ft. cone of fire, immolating the mouther. (10ft. Cone of Fire, 10 damage, Reflex DC 21 for half)
The Edmunds watch this from a safe distance, worried that his friends might be caught in the blast of flame. At the same time, he realises that freeing Kadaz is the most important thing at the moment, even if it means singeing a few of the others to do so.
Further resolved to assist, the Edmunds begin chanting once more, gesturing and concentrating on another spell.

As part of the group continues it's assault upon the giant gibbering mouther...things seem to be going rather poor for the group.
Between the combined efforts of Conner's blade and the fire of the hell hound, the gibbering mouther quivers.
Mira and Kirsten are now both safely being held by a number of mouths that belong to the beast as well. Luckily, Mira was able to get her spell to Kadaz and he is even now in the process of enlarging.
Shadow continues to try and get the rope to Kadaz as he can see no other action that would be beneficial. Meanwhile, Arm has his heart in his throat as he watches his love throw herself into harms way to help a friend. He can do no less as he too leaps to her aid and minds a grip upon her foot.
Thar makes a jab inside of the gibbering mouther to hopefully touch the now enlarged Kadaz and give him some needed healing.
The gibbering mouther(Reflex 5) has been unable to avoid a lot of damage and though his life is fading fast...it has to make one last attempt to get even. Kadaz finds that he is once again assaulted by the beasts feasting effects(Con drain 3).
A dead body is expeled from the body of the gibbering mouther by the enlarged Kadaz as he takes up more room inside of the beast. As everyone watches in certain horror that they are in for the death of a friend...the beast makes one last shudder. The beast seems to deflate and shrivel upon itself becoming little more than a husk. Air is expeled as well, as if the beast had been holding it's breathe, and it does not smell good at all(Fort DC 14 or get ill, -3 to Con).
There are at least a dozen dead bodies laying around near the beast. Some of them have been seemingly drained of life, others are burned beyond recognition and a couple have been trampled. As you glance around for signs of more trouble, you notice that a group of seven guards have finally shown up...though they are still far enough away for you to not be able to make them out too good.
As people start to come out of the influence of the gibbering mouther: there is a sudden uproar of screams, tears and wails of despair. There is also the burning warehouse that has started to spread to another warehouse and a small shop as well.
Arm Friday December 21st, 2007 6:05:25 AM
Arm rubs his eyes, but cannot totally stop the tears..and now he is not certain if they are all for Mira or split between her and the unfortunates that had their lives ended at his hand.
He cannot remain standing any longer, and slumps down beside Mira. Taking her face in his hands, he looks deeply into her eyes and says, "Are you well, my love? I fear that I shall not be with you much longer, as the only right thing to do is to turn myself in to yonder guard and confess to murdering these people. Be safe, and think of me often.".

Kadaz (AC 26, HP 11/36, con 3/16, ( Old HP max 86)) d20=17 Friday December 21st, 2007 5:22:16 PM
The smell of the dead monster rises up all around Kadaz but he manages, barely, to hold on to consciousness. "I don't feel so good" the large dwarf says as he steps away from the goo.
He sits down as Thar moves up to him. "Thanks" he says gratefully. "Why am I seeing 4 Edmunds? That's just not right." He waves a hand in front of his face, counting fingers, then Edmunds.
Conner [ AC=24; HP=79/85] Bless, Enlarged, Inspired d20+8=24 Friday December 21st, 2007 5:45:12 PM
Conner's face transforms into a grim smile as the mouther succumbs. His pleasure in seeing the creature's demise, as well as the sight of Kadaz, alive but dripping in foul smelling goo, provides sufficient fortification to overcome any foul smell (Fort=24).
"You can put clean armor on a dwarf..." he says flatly, "but you just can't take them anywhere!"
At Thar's request, the enlarged fighter wipes the worst off his blade, sheaths it, and approaches the guard. "Fear not!" he calls out, "We have dispatched this vile creature and can now use your help in setting these injured citizens at ease."
Mira (AC 22, 29/53 Mage Armor, Shield, Message, Bless, Combat Casting, Inspire Courage)-3 to Con. d20+5+2=11 Friday December 21st, 2007 6:03:55 PM
Fort vs DC 14, 11 (fail)
Released from the creature's grasp, but overcome by the noxious fumes, Mira falls to the ground. On hands and knees she retches weakly, unaware of what is going on around her.

Kirsten (AC 22, HP 39/81, Bless) d20+11=30 Saturday December 22nd, 2007 12:17:51 PM
At the smell from the dead creature, Kirsten makes a face though manages to keep herself from becoming sick. (Fort= 30)
Seeing that Thar is taking care of Kadaz, and that Conner is doing what he can to deal with the guard... the paladin will move to try and assist the unfortunate people around them. She does what she can to offer comfort and healing.
More trouble? (DM Jim) Saturday December 22nd, 2007 11:07:08 PM
Most of the group falls into traige mode as you start to look into helping out those that are injured and those that are already dead. It seems that none of the citizens know who dealt the fireball and it is being explained away as something the now deflated monster did.
Though a lot of the citizens seem to be lost in their own despair over deaths and the loss of other things...there are many that are also helping out their fellow citizens. Many of them are bandaging wounds, comforting friends and a brigade has already formed to work on the fires...though that is slow going.
As Conner nears the guards he notes that the uniforms they wear are those of the Plateau City Defense League and not your best friends. The leader of the group grunts and shakes his head. "Figures to find you the cause of all this mess." He glances around and shakes his head as he points to the burning building. "Jenna and Olan...start working on those fires...the rest of you come with me." Sneering at Conner he strides forward. "We maybe taking some rogues into custody." This is accompanied by laughter from all seven PCDL members.
Kadaz finds himself in the capable hands of Thar and some of his health has returned under the man's attentions.
Jenna and Olan have moved off to the side and near the burning warehouse. Each is in the process of casting some sort of spell.
[Combat is over and we will return to realtime. :) You each have also earned a big reward of 5000XP that should be rather useful. If you want to nominate for Hero Points, than send me an email to chosen_demon@hushmail.com.]
Thar ail Baerer 2d8(4+3)+3=10 Sunday December 23rd, 2007 10:55:12 AM
Once he is done healing his friend of at least 4 points of Const, Thar brings out his wand and uses another charge to help him regain his health.
Once done, he'll keep a wary eye on the PCDL, but for now, will ignore them and work on healing his fellow PC's.
(OOC = Would everyone please put down their current hp's vs. max, even though combat is over. I want to get a clear idea of who needs any emergency aid.)
Healed 10 pts of dmg on Kadaz Wand = 48 charges left
Edmund Sunday December 23rd, 2007 1:07:13 PM
The four Edmunds turn, but their smiles fade when he recognises the uniforms of the PCDL. "Joy," they grumble in unison. "Where are the proper guards? Don't they realise their city is ablaze and their people are dying?"
In an effort to be less conspicuous, the Edmund wave their hands. Sunddely, only one Edmund is left. He whispers through the Message spell.
"One of us should get in touch with the proper guards straight away--I'm not hurt, I could go, or Shadow if he's up to it. I can make someone invisible for a few minutes. We may be able to do it without the Boob Brigade noticing."
Mira (AC 22, 38/53 Mage Armor, Shield, Message, Bless, Combat Casting, Inspire Courage)-3 to Con. 2d8(3+2)+2=7 d20+2=11 Sunday December 23rd, 2007 10:10:47 PM
"Don't tell them anything!" Mira hisses through the message spell, as she moves to a sitting position. "Edmund! You do the talking!" she continues.
The sorcerer clasps her hand over the tatoo on her forearm and activates the magic (Brahmah's Tatoo CMW=7). Still sitting on the ground, she removes her glasses and starts to clean them with the sleeve of her tunic. Squinting up at the PCDL leader, she tries to discern his motive (Sense Motive=11). Without her glasses she has to rely on words spoken and tone of voice.
Edmund (2nd post) d20+11=28 d20+5=15 Monday December 24th, 2007 1:24:39 AM
At Mira's request, Edmund whispers back through the Message spell. "Right so, you can count on me. Still, if Shadow can get away and get in touch with the real guards, he should, while there is still time."
Edmund swallows once, puts on his best business demeanour, and does his best to adopt a commanding presence. Surveying the other members of the Mithril Order with arched eyebrows, looking down his nose a bit, he glances at the approaching guards with a noticeably detatched curiosity. He may not appear particularly strong, but he probably looks like the important person in charge. (Bluff=28, Intimidate=15)
Arm HP 33/33 d20=18 Monday December 24th, 2007 6:56:13 AM
Groaning when he realizes that the group is in fact NOT the city Guard, Arm manages to gain his footing, and then helps Mira up as well.
In a voice that barely hides his disgust, Arm addresses the leader, "Well, what is it NOW? Haven't your motley band of thugs caused ENOUGH pain and turmoil in this city that you thirst for more? If you insist on TRYING to capture us, then let us have at it..we're tired and would like to go home." (intimidate=18).
Shadow (HP 42/47) d20+5=12 d20+14=25 Monday December 24th, 2007 7:40:52 AM
Shadow is relieved that the battle is over, but notices who the guards really are. In the confusion he will try and blend into the shadows and move away. He hears the suggestion from his companions and will move to go get the 'real' guards.
If he does get away unnoticed he will run to the nearest guard station to see if he can get some of the guards the group knows.
Thar ail Baerer 2d8(6+8)+3=17 2d8(6+6)+3=15 Monday December 24th, 2007 9:59:59 AM
Thar, continuing with his healing mission, moves to Mira and Kirsten, using his CMW wand on both for a boost of healing.
Mira = 17 Kirsten = 15 Wand = 46 charges
(OOC Ken) Monday December 24th, 2007 10:36:25 AM
Jim = what's your email address? I need to send you an updated character sheet.
Thanks Ken
See my above DM post. I went ahead and bolded my email address so that it is easier to see.
Kadaz (AC 26, HP 37/52, con 7/16, ( Old HP max 86)) Monday December 24th, 2007 3:36:51 PM
Kadaz looks at Thar gratefully. "I feel almost myself now. Thanks very much." The large dwarf stands up and enjoys the sensation of looking down on those he must normally look up at.
He stands up, grabs his axe and shield, and looks at the chaos in the street. "Right now, we must help those who have been hurt by the monsters. Then we can figure out the root of this evil." As long as the PCDL folks are actually helping the wounded bystanders, there is no cause to stop them. "But, what spell are those two over there casting?" he asks as he points towards Jenna and Olan
Arm Tuesday December 25th, 2007 8:45:36 AM
Arm looks suspiciously at the two spellcasters and wonders if they will somehow manage to cast something and blame the results on the Order.
Arm Wednesday December 26th, 2007 6:29:14 AM
zzzzz... ;)
Edmund Wednesday December 26th, 2007 10:59:56 AM
As the PCDL goons approach, Edmund adopts an impassive air.
"What can we do for you fellows?" he asks grimly. "We have been doing our part to save this city from monsters and death, and have nearly paid for it with our lives. Your own assistance was..." Edmund glances around, "somewhat less visible."
Edmund folds his arms across his chest and narrows his eyes, "Of course, perhaps I just failed to see your valiant effort and you have come now to offer your aid--much appreciated, I assure you. There are doubtless wounded people, and the dead to recover. That fire should be addressed immediately, and the proper guard should be called out at once to make safe the city."
Edmund generously allows the hint of a smile, "You look like men who have the good of the city at heart. Doubtless we can count on your assistance."
Conner Wednesday December 26th, 2007 8:15:38 PM
The tattooed fighter moves back towards the burning warehouse with the two spellcasters. He wants to make sure that none of the evidence is destroyed...or taken.
If he can, he will slip inside the warehouse and pull the body of the doppleganger to a safe place away from the flames
Arm Thursday December 27th, 2007 5:50:45 AM
Arm idly kicks at the dirt while he waits for their accuser to either stand and deliver or run home with his tail between his legs.
Shadow Thursday December 27th, 2007 9:05:39 AM
If he made it past the notice of the PCDL, he will pick up speed and get to the guards as quickly as possible.
Kadaz (AC 26, HP 37/52, con 7/16, ( Old HP max 86)) d20+9=24 Thursday December 27th, 2007 12:25:40 PM
Kadaz looks around and spots Birdie. "Come here boy" he yells. (handle animal 24)
The confused dog looks up at the large-sized Kadaz, covered in smelly goo. But it sounds like his master. Birdie approaches cautiously, then catches a sniff of the real Kadaz. He moves more quickly then, coming up to Kadaz's feet, looking up much higher than normal. He waits for his next order.
Kadaz starts giving first aid to those hurt in the street. He tries to separate out those who are very dead from those who might live with assistance.
Kirsten Thursday December 27th, 2007 6:11:08 PM
The paladin keeps a wary eye on the PCDL, though for the most part she tries to help the remaining civilians as much as she can. She listens quietly at the others deal with them, keeping to herself for the most part.
Mira Friday December 28th, 2007 12:36:20 AM
With a little help from Arm, Mira gets to her feet. An arm goes around the bard as much to support her unsteady feet as to reassure the bard. Thar's healing restores the sorcerer to full health, and the sorcerer's mind starts to replay what has just happened.
"Who are the people behind these attacks?" she puzzles aloud as her mind goes through the known enemies of Plateau City. "I wonder if there is a connection with that death cult we dealth with previously?"
Arm Friday December 28th, 2007 5:56:29 AM
Arm looks around at the group and says, "Hm, anyone up for a bite to eat and perhaps a nap?". He looks at the members of the PCDL that are seemingly frozen in place and wonders how easy it would be to pick them up and hurl them into the warehouse fire.
OOC: Maybe I missed something, but was there a notice saying we wouldn't have a DM this week?
