Arminas - 2nd post
Thursday December 6th, 2007 7:05:01 PM

Calling about for Reaper, Arminas is surprised that the poncy stranger has come back into the house and is speaking threats to the air.

"Witherspoon is it? Please, try to not frighten the cat. They sense danger and fear you know."

Then, Arminas goes back to making soft calls to find Reaper.

Davros  d20+16=26

"It appears all is not well here after all. Let us proceed with caution. We have now encountered several people with hazy memories. This servant of Madam Dulcet, Ivy, and the wizard helping Itzal. Maybe Itzal himself was affected. Maybe more townsfolk are affected as well?"

Davros draws a wand from his Haversack and activates it. He checks for magic auras first on the servant, then proceeds into the house.

"Harvest, who is the brightly dressed fellow? Does he work for madam Dulcet?"

He doesn't know you all and doesn't know what he getting into.

Harvest (2nd Post)
Thursday December 6th, 2007 7:46:34 PM

"I do not know, Davros Sapphiredge. He entered the door behind me," she replies. In her mind she reviews the voice that had drifted in from outside. "From his manner I do not think that he works for Madame Dulcet. I believe I heard him call the one who I felled addressing him as 'Man Servant' rather than by name."

"My apologies to you as well, Bralin Stoneminder," she says in a lower voice. "I feel that I am grumpy from lack of sleep. Even so, it is unseemly for me to speak in angry tones."

The brown girl looks up for a moment, searching the street.

"Anthos, did you see two in this area who might be described as little babies? I think that their names would be Baxter and Matilda."

Malgant
Thursday December 6th, 2007 7:52:33 PM

Malgant accepts a glass of wine with a hearty thank you to his host. He trys to remain as unobtrusive as a large minotaur can be while Ivy's family describe to her what they saw happen when she was taken. Something here is not quite right. He hopes he can figure out why the stories differ so much.

Any
Thursday December 6th, 2007 8:20:19 PM

"No my love, I saw no one in the street save this man and his animals." Then putting two and two together, he says, "Perhaps he was speaking to his animals--I often speak to Moonshadow. As for your actions, I feel I owe an apology to you. Again your instincts have proven correct--and I just thought you were beating up old men for practice."

He smiles to take away any offense, then seeing this Montgomery's intentions, he moves to cover the closest window to the left of the door.

Florin Jadenth
Thursday December 6th, 2007 8:20:24 PM

Florin does as Malgant does and accept a glass of wine but otherwise listens to what is said. If asked anything about the saving of Ivy he tells only alittle as he still doesn't want to alarm anyone, not to mention he doesn't want to pass out to much info till things are sorted out more.

Florin does atleast feel that Ivy and her family should be safe enough from Itzal's parents atleast, any anger from them will most likely be turned towards the group.

However, just incase he does pull Ivy's father to the side to speak privately to him, "Ivy does not know yet that I know of but Itzal is no longer of the Wold. In saving Ivy, we had no choice to to fight Itzal and something came a killed him after we have injured him quite badly. I don't think anyone will attempt anything on Ivy again but it is best to becareful."

Florin does think of something and when he sees a good moment too he speaks to everyone, "I'm sorry to say but Malgant and I should go to meet up with the rest of the group." With this Florin excuses himself and waits for Malgant.

When he and Malgant are alone again, Florin speaks to Malgant, "No one seems to know of this spirit or whatever we are fighting. I still think it is some type of ghost and a thought came to mind. We should seek out a record of deaths in this area. Maybe something will catch our eye. I wonder if something like the temple of Gargul or such would keep records of that. If what we been fighting is a ghost or such then we have simply banished him for a short time and we need all the info we can get before he returns."

Lorth
Friday December 7th, 2007 8:41:43 AM

(OOC: Buzz I am enjoying your new character)

Lorth gives the well dressed man a sideways glance, "Dressed in rags?", he mutters.
He looks at his clothes, well they are a bit dirty he thinks. However I routinely clean and mend my gear, perhaps I need to do more...

...the thought ends and his mind comes back to the matters at hand. He slowly unsheathes his sword, "Better to be ready.", he says, "As there looks to be some chicanery going on here, judging from the butler's state of mind."

Motioned by Montgomery to surround the house, Lorth takes a step, as the man is quite charismatic, but he recovers and waits for Bralin's queue.

Montgomery  d20+2=16
Friday December 7th, 2007 12:33:39 PM

At the mention of a cat being about, Montgomery hunkers down into a stealthy position and with hands faster then some can see, he reaches back toward his Heavy Flail, and past it to his haversack. Apparently at the top, was a small can, all the while his attitude changes, "Are you a talking kitty, kitty? Here kitty kitty kitty. He the sits down with legs crossed, and pulls on the ring in the top of the can, releasing a sound of something becoming unsealed. "Well, look what I have here! I was going to eat it for dinner, but I wil share, yes, yes I will share." bReaching back again, he pulls a plate and fork and starts to dish them up. "Oh, these are so good. They are Chavier sardines, the most expensive on the continent, Mumsey sent them to me."

Any is watching the door, trying to see and hear what is going on, while still watching his window. The antics of this new person are in some ways hard to understand, but Anthos has played to many crowds in many places, and has seen people that this Montgomery reminds him of.

I wonder what he is doing here?

The Child and the Reaper
Saturday December 8th, 2007 5:32:24 PM

Arminas moves into the house, calling out to the cat in a soft voice.
Montgomery, moves into the house and towards the room Harvest had mentioned the voice came from. There is still no replies to his advances at this time.

Harvest Moon apologizes to the man as she helps him to his feet. Harvest offers explanantion behind her actions earilier and then asks for more information on the fog. The apology is accepted instantly and his hand stops her part way through. You had a very good friend of mines safety at heart and acted. Even then you took care to not use lethal force. A commendable action. I can share little about the fog. To me it appeared just like a thick fog. Like the kind which rise on early mornings in the first of winter and spring. Of Course, it was within the house so I knew magic to be afoot. But I am afraid there is little else I can say.
Harvest calls to Arminas as he enters that the voice she heard could have belonged to a cat. She also offers warning of the home's protector and its determination from her brief encounter.

Bralin asks about defensive measures that might be active in the home and the man nods. "Aye, the upstairs master suite and the main floor study and library are. I do not know how or of any bypass or password to allow entry."

Davros is slightly unsettled by the growing list of people in town that have incomplete memories. He draws a wand from his Haversack and activates it. 18 seconds later and he has an answer. A Moderate Aura DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {of Necromancy} envelops the servant.
Baxter and Matilda stand idly by upon their hooves and as Harvest asks about them, they both give a slight snort of recognition on hearing their names. The answer becomes obvious instantly to whom Baxter and Matilda may be.
Seeing the brightly colored man move into the house, Any moves to the left of the door and tries to cast his gaze through the window, or at the very least prevent the escape of any inside by that means. The draperies are pulled close so the bard will not be receiving much warning if someone were to crash through.

Lorth draws his weapon, better safe than sorry as things are afoot at Dulcet manor. He finds his feet moving as Montgomery calls for the house to be surrounded, but his brain catches up and he pauses for Bralin's official que.

Inside.
Arminas and Montgomery enter the sitting room, one calling softly for the cat by name, Reaper. The other opening wax sealed leather mini pouch. The aroma that rises from the broken seal is quite powerful. A soft voice then calls out again just after Harvest's warning to Arminas. "Calaelen? That is an elvish name and one that I think I know." Stepping out from under the large chair is a snow white long haired cat with ice blue in darker blue eyes. "Who are you?" it whispers in a soft alien sounding voice.

Florin and Malgant are gracious and those not in Ivy's direct family while hospitable, are a bit unnerved by Malgants larger than life precense. All but one small boy of about 6 years of age. Both Malgant and Florin are asked for at least an overview several times of what happened.
"Black magic they were up to."
"On the Waardlina aye it certainly was" Waardlina- term for the 4th full moon of Waard
"Thank the true gods you came when you did"

Ivy's father is not here, but had left several days before the attack. A divine pilgrimage is what Ivy and now her mother will say. He did the same thing before he married himself, and before the weddings of two of his other children. Today is the third day and he would arrive in two more for a 5 day journey in all.
A young boy, perhaps 5 or 6, walks up to the minotaur and soundly pulls on his cloak until Malgant not only looks down but brings himself down to the small childs level. "Are you here to vanquish the bad man?"

Arminas  d20+8=11
Saturday December 8th, 2007 6:06:58 PM

OOC: I'm confused, is Reaper speaking in cat or elvish or common?
Reaper the cat is speaking in common. he recognized Arminas's surname as elvish

Arminas lowers himself to be on the cat's level. In cat or elvish, he says:

"I am Arminas Calaelen, from the Culverwood just beyond Merrydale. You must be reaper. Madam Dulcet is a friend, and we seek her counsel and safe return. Perhaps you can help us, do you know where the fog came from and where Madam Dulcet has gone?

With a glance over to Montgomery and back to Reaper, Arminas adds again in elvish.

"Why is it that humans tend to treat all animals as stupid pets? I do not know him, so bear no scorn towards us. That does smell good though, doesn't it?"

Malgant
Saturday December 8th, 2007 7:46:41 PM

Not knowing who the child is Malgant is taken aback by the question. He quickly recovers and begins to speak to the lad. Sometimes the young can see so much more clearly than the old.
" We are here to do just that young one. What do you know of the bad man?" As Malgant speaks he rather difficultly shifts his posture to seat himself on the floor in front of the boy. " The bad man that we are looking for appears old and sort of wispy, like you can see through him if you look closely enough. He uses spells of darkness and values nothing in his companions. He is willing to cast them aside when it suits him. Have you seen this man, young one?"
Was this boy present when Ivy was taken? Did he see Medonius? Malgant patiently speaks with the boy until he understands what the lad has seen. Childen often see things for what they really are rather than what they think they want to see.

Harvest
Sunday December 9th, 2007 10:57:01 AM

"Baxter. Matilda." Harvest Moon turns away from the two animals in the street, back to the interior of the house. A ghost of a smile plays upon her lips.

"Be at ease in the knowledge that we will bend all effort to discover the whereabouts of Madame Dulcet," Harvest Moon says to the man who had answered the door. "We will expend all effort to return her safely to the people."

Her eye tracks Anthos as he makes his way to the back.

"Montgomery Whitherspoon the Third," she steps back into the house, "we are the Swords of Light. We have, together, been of service to the peoples of the Valley from time to time. We aide the innocent and defend those who cannot defend themselves. At the moment, we pursue an enemy who corrupts the mind. This enemy may be a spirit, and has proven adept at necromancy and conjuration."

"I tell you this so that you know that by placing yourself here with us, you put your life in jeopardy. If you remain upon the path you now tread, we will try to protect you as we protect all. And if you have skills that can aide us to bring this danger to heel, we welcome them."

Sunday December 9th, 2007 11:55:47 PM

Montgomery licks the fork and places it back into the haversack. "There you are my sweet little feline. I'll return for the platter after you are done." From his cross legged sitting position, he easily stands and retraces his steps, methodically back out side. What a beautiful creature. I wish Baxter and Matilda could talk. The road can be long and lonely.

"Hello everyone, it is an enormous pleasure to meet a militia of the area. I assume, your either a paid militia or volunteers?"

He begins to remove his silken riding gloves, then puts them on tighter before shaking the hands of those that wish to. His grip not firm and he extends his fingers as a lady would. "Charmed, indeed."

My name is Montgomery Witherspoon the Third, as you well know, he announces with a flourish. I travel the lands in search of those that deserve both protection and freedom from injustice." he takes his hat off and bows, revealing a full head of golden, curly hair. "There is indeed something ill afoot and if it is your intention to defeat evil, I would gladly assist with such ventures."

He looks toward the man servant. "Come, come man, describe the last things you rememner before this fog occurred. Was it a physical fog or a mental fog? What was the last thing your mistress said and did, that you can remember?"

"I would like to throughly search the premises, if it's alright with you and the feline resident."

Any draws his sword as he moves on around the house towards the back door. In his mind, he really does not expect anyone to come out, but better to be prepared than not.

Thinking of the comment of the man Witherspoon, he looks down at his once fine clothes. With a laugh he says to himself,

"Looks like it is time to visit the clothiers again. Unless magic can return these to some semblance of respectability."

Florin Jadenth
Monday December 10th, 2007 8:47:19 PM

Florin waits, seeing that Malgant is being held up by a child. Florin tries not to listen in on the conversation either, just incase the child gets spooked at Florin being close.

I Learned a Thing or Two
Monday December 10th, 2007 9:07:44 PM

Any continues to circle and spies a side door, likely to a kitchen. From here he can also see through a small iron fence, maybe 4' high and into the rear yard. It appears maintained as a garden for both relaxing and the growing of food. Both being signs to another entrance or two at the rear of the house.

Davros identuifies the aura on the servant who states his name as Bellowin. The man is unnerved to have such magic on his person and simply looks to Davros and all with holy symbols displayed, "Now what?" As far as the fog, it was thick and white as the fogs of early winter and spring. He knows not where it started, but he was in the grand ballroom as it rolled it. Madame Dulcet was not in the room and so he does not know what if anything she may have done. Here meroy becomes untrusted. He remebers her leaving and providing instructions that no one come in, but he also does not at the same time. "Terribly confusing really." He is sure besides Reaper, that no one else is inside.

Bellowin agrees to allow the group to look around, as long as they do not enter the Master Suite upstairs nor the Main floor study or Library.

Reaper nods to Arnimas and a feline tongue goes over his nose and cheeks when the goodies are put down, a small murr escaping. Reaper with another sniff starts eating. Arminas recognizes the cat has not eaten in quite a while, water too may have been in short supply. In between smacks Reaper answers Arnimas in the common human tongue as before.
"Ahh this is exceptional."
"Culverwood, ah yes of course. That explains the name and my knowing of it."
"Ran out of mice the other day. oh I couldn't say exactly what day, I'm a cat you know."
"I count on the help for such things. bellowin and the other one."
"First Coven was from Culverwood, when I was just a child. Oh that seems like ages ago."
"Can't seem to remember a fog, but I tell you I am plenty upset with Dulcet. Yes that was her name....Madame...the witch"

The cat stops eating and Reaper sits back unto his haunches as if thinking of something.

Malgant listens to the boy and with gentle words coaxes out a terrible story. "I was playing outside of the Miss Doll's house. A man walked up the road and inside and a big fog came and I was scared but then got all warm and safe. The Fog was everywhere. I saw the man leave and go down the road and I went too. He looked funny like all cloudy. The Cloudy man went in Miss Ivy's house and then Miss Ivy and the man got on a horse and then went up Wolf Hill. Then Miss Ivy's mom was yelling and breaking things and three big men came with swords and they were all screaming and fighting each other and i got scared and ran home."

The small boy blinks and smiles at the end and nods, "I think you can get the bad man."

"Go ahead and search everyone. See if there are any clues. Just stay out of the rooms Bellowin mentioned."

"Bellowin, my dear fellow. Let us go outside for a moment and I will attempt to get rid of any lingering magic upon you. First I need to check on one more thing."

Davros goes to check if there is a similiar aura upon Reaper the cat as upon Bellowin. (Spellcraft= 30, I will use a new charge off the wand if needed- please say so.)

If the cat also has the aura, Davros will ask him if he would like it removed, and if so to join Bellowin outside so he can cast dispel on them both.(dispel next post if anyone wants to comment on it first)

" Sergeant Hammer, does this ring any bells? could the demons you saw have been illusions?" Malgant turns back to the boy and asks a few more questions. " I am sorry, I have been very rude. My name is Malgant young man, what is yours?" Malgant offers his huge hand to the boy to shake in greeting. " I had a few other questions. You seem to have seen all of this clearly, while other accounts of it seem, muddled. Did you see where the man can from originally? Can you describe him for me? Were Sergeant Hammer here and the Specialist with him among the men with swords that came to Miss Ivy's house?. Malgant listens to the boy's account again and then asks the final question on his mind. Smiling he asks," what makes you think I can get the bad man?"

"Perhaps we should begin, then, in the Ballroom. Arminas Calaelen, would your skills in tracking stand the test indoors? The traces left behind may not be as you are used to, but mud and dust leave their tracks even within a home."

"Madame Dulcet!" Harvest cups her hands about her mouth and calls into the interior of the house. "Might you show us to the Ballroom, Bellowin," she asks. "We will find, Madame Dulcet. Please rest assured. We will find her."

"Oh oh, vigilantes is it?" He asks in regard to Harvests statement. He probes the exterior of the house for some signs of a marshall or other authority along the road. Seeing none, he shrugs his shoulders in resignation to their position. "Well well, always better to be on the side of law then against, I always say."

Montgomery looks around at the group, "Are any of you a priest? Would it be possible to divine on the lady of the house?"

"Perhaps I can find some traces of movement, especially if someone came from outside."

Arminas takes a looking glass from his haversack and starts to carefully look around the house.

Ins and Outs
Tuesday December 11th, 2007 9:22:22 PM

Davors goes to inspect the cat and with another activation of the wand and a few rounds discovers something quite odd. The talking cat, Reaper, has no aura of any kind. For Bellowin, the man moves as directed a few feet from the house.

Harvest suggests Arnimas start in the ballroom where Bellowin was when this started. She calls into the house. Reaper meows at her.

Montgomery inquires of the possibility of casting some divining magic.

Arminas moves into the Ballroom to look for tracks. More specifically, any from outside leading in. The ranger finds none however on the hardwood of the ballroom. The entrance to the house may have showed some sign, but too many have now come and gone to make any dissernment.

Any hops the iron fence, easy as pie, and spies a pair of rear doors to the mansion. A smaller one to the left that seems to exit directly into a small garden and a larger set of iron bound double door in the center. These lead into a rock garden with several statues and toperairy. A tiny fountain and stream meander around the perimeter. Any finds the small door opens to the kitchen as expected. The larger more ornate doors are locked and he could swear the large door knocker grimaced at him as he tested it.

Bralin follows inside and observes as the house is given a search. Madame Dulcet is nowhere to be found. Her things in all rooms seem orderly enough and there are no signs of struggle or conflict.

Reaper for his part follows the group

Meanwhile across town.....
Malgant begins asking the child a host of questions and for the most part the little boy answers. The Sergeant shakes his head. "No illusions they were quite real enough and so was my dead man."

The child emphatically corrects the soldier. "No, he killed him." pointing to the specialist. He poured some stuff and fired him to. Everyone was yelling and fighting with each other. I was scared but stayed because kitty said I would be safe with him so I did."

The child says his name is Peter Rand and he is six years old and can count to 100."
Did you see where the man can from originally? From the eastern road by Duel its House, the big one.
Can you describe him for me? "Tall and big and smokey."
Were Sergeant Hammer here and the Specialist with him among the men with swords that came to Miss Ivy's house?. "They came as the smokey man left. He was shouting," pointing to Hammer, "About the back and help."
what makes you think I can get the bad man? "The kitty said the big big horned man would help and I should be with Ivy cause you would find her and that you are kitty's friend and would keep me safe if the smokey man comes back."

The Sgt steps to Malgant as the minotaur rises. "If there were no cretures then we might have a serious problem. Specialist Thames and I killed 4 hounds, or at least what we thought were hounds."

Malgant
Tuesday December 11th, 2007 9:52:49 PM

Malgant frowns at the Sergeant's words. " I hope you are wrong in your assumption that what you killed may have been other people instead of dogs. I am hoping they were a powerful illusion and all in your mind." His mind is racing and his body is sorely pressed to keep up after last nights combat and the lack of sleep. Did the boy say that a kitty talked to him? How odd. Malgant listens to what Peter says and it just causes more questions to crop up. Oddly Malgant finds that he wishes Arminas were here, in case the cat can only speak to small boys and those of the wood. Anyway...
Malgant starts pacing he asks Peter some more questions. He finds the walking clears his head some, Much like his morning prayers would do. "Peter, Who is this Kitty? I cannot say that I recall befriending a kitty, but I may have forgoton in all the confusion last night. What color is kitty and do you know where we could find him? I can say that kitty is quite right though. I wish to become a Protector of Domi and would let no harm befall you while I drew breath. Could you take Florin and I to see kitty?"
Another thought crosses the Taur's troubled mind. Isn't lady Dulcet's house in the direction that Peter is describing? " Peter, you saw the man near Lady Dulcet's house at first? Thats where he came from?"

Any
Tuesday December 11th, 2007 10:37:43 PM

Any, finding that the second door is locked, moves back to the Kitchen door, and enters the house.

"I found nothing outside that I could discern. Maybe Arminas can do better. I tried not to disturb tracks, but do not know how successful I was."

Florin Jadenth
Tuesday December 11th, 2007 10:39:50 PM

Florin listens to everything since it doesn't take much to hear what is being said and such. He moves his eyes over the people gathered and clenches his jaw lightly before nodding, "Yes, it would be very helpful if you could show us Peter. Your a brave lad, even with a kitty to watch over you at the time."

Florin gets ready to go with Malgant and Peter but first he steps over to Ivy and speaks to her gently, "I need to go and check up on this. I'll be blunt, I don't think it's over Ivy, so you and your family stay together. The best policy is to stay together, do not let any of you leave each others site. Remember, safty in two's at the least."

Florin walks to the door now and slips a bottle of holy water that he carries and sprinkles it at the door before whispering gently, "Domi, watch over this house and those within it. Protect them as I would your name."

With this Florin looks to Malgant and nods, ready.

Harvest Moon  d20+3=20

Harvest Moon surveys the room. Then draws a deep breath before puffing it out at the crest of hair that dangles over her forehead.

"If this was Medonius, then he could easily enter through the walls, as he seemed to sink into the ground the day before," she says, her thoughts speaking themselves out loud.

"But ... he did not appear to be able to touch anyone with his own hands. And, if that is the case, then I wonder how it is that he managed to spirit Madame Dulcet away?" The brown girl considers the possible spells that could be brought to bear for such a thing.

"What do you think, Davros Sapphiredge? Do you suppose that he could have taken over Madame Dulcet's mind in the same way that he did to Bellowin? Madame Dulcet does not strike me as one who's will is so easily overcome."

"There is something odd about Reaper.
Reaper, are you Madam Dulcet's familiar? Please don't be after my friend Whiskers. He has an unnatural fear of cats. Weird dreams about being chased before he became my familiar he says."

The voice of Desolute
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 2:13:25 AM

Harvest did attempt to save my life when we were engaged on the road. Through ignorance, it was not understood her intentions, but they were pure none the less. She is a true hero.

Lorth
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 7:44:53 AM

Lorth follows his friends into the house as they make their investigations. He tries to stay out of the way and not touch anything. However he also looks around the home for anything he deems unusual.

Arminas
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 10:55:27 AM

Arminas cannot find any sign, which is typical in a dwelling. He does stop though, and again sits upon the ground at Reaper's side.

"Reaper, you are an unusual cat. While it is known amoung all who know animals that cats are intelligent creatures, few of them speak common. It is such a crude language, compared to the musical sounds of your own. How did you come about it? What brought you from the Culverwood to this place, and why are you at the home of the witch Dulcet? I am sorry, but it seems like we have many questions and few answers."

Montgomery
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 12:21:11 PM

From a belt pouch, he pulls out a nail file and takes his gloves off. He begins to groom himself as he watches the others work. He nonchalantly says, "If she is to be found in her house, she is likely enclosed in one of the rooms we do not have permission to enter, which is a shame. Due to that restriction, she could be all trussed up and dying, yet we still could not save her due to the man servants limitations upon our search." He continues his care for well manicured hands with a bored expression upon his beautiful and powdered face.

Bralin
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 2:12:09 PM

Bralin trails the group, listening to the comments and vainly attempting to piece together the clues to this mystery.

The newcomer does have a point, the dwarf admits. He turns to Bellowin. "Mayhap you could enter the forbidden rooms?"

Any  d20+7=22

Any enters the main living area, finding the others gathered there.

Hearing the comments, he echos the sentiments,

"Strange things are occurring here abouts, We reaaly do need to determine if Madame Dulcet is in any of the rooms or not. Surely she would not object to our looking in those rooms if the intentions were to determine her own safety." (diplomacy 22)

Vergence
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 8:54:34 PM

Davros attempts a dispelling. Using another charge from his wand unfortunately reveals the dwomenor still present.

Davros then is to Reaper inquiring further of the odd cat. "Her Familiar? Hmm" Reaper pauses a moment as if reflecting on something. The cat then sneezes several times and shakes it head clear. "Meow" and it shoots off after Arnimas as the ranger heads out to circle the house.

Montgomery, Blain and Any all think the other rooms should be searched.

Bellowin answers quite promptly about the rooms. "I have always been lead to believe it was for my own protection to not enter the rooms. That is all I can offer on that."

Outside Animas makes the circet, Reaper right behind him. "Meow! Meow!" The cat bounds into his legs several times. Beyond what seem ordinary passage, Arnimas is not finding anything.

Malgant, Florin, the Sgt and Specialist....
Hammer ansers back with serious tones, "I do so as well"
Malgant seeks more answers
"The Kitty was white and i do not know whose. I saw him at Doll sets and yes I could take you. If Mommy and Daddy say ok." At the mention of Dulcets house, Peter nods rapidly. "Yes Dulcets big house. The smokey bad man came from the east road there when I saw him."

Five strapping men gather about Florin as he speaks and are quietly nodding at his words. One gives Peter the 'ok' to go with Malgant and Florin. taking a quick knee he wraps him in a bear grip that could endure the ages. "Come home to me sweet boy." and then he stands and simply stares as Peter skips over to grab Malgants great hand and pull him towards Dulcet's.

Harvest
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 9:37:57 PM

Harvest Moon nods.

"We must look. Even if it is objectionable. Montgomery Witherspoon the Third is correct, we cannot leave until we ensure that we would not be leaving Madame Dulcet behind."

"Anthos, I will begin with the Master Suite upstairs. It should not take long to determine whether Madame Dulcet is within or not. Then we much check the Study upon the main floor, and last the Library."

Harvest ascends the stairs and makes her way to the Master Suite.

"Madame Dulcet?" she calls again at the closed door. "It is Harvest Moon of the Swords of Light. We have been concerned about your welfare. I will enter now, to ensure that you are hale and safe."

She opens the door.

"Sergeant, you and the specialist both have had a long night. If these folks do not mind I would consider it a great favor if you would stay and keep watch over these people. you could do it in turns so that you each get some kind of rest." Turning to the boys father he assures him. "Peter will be safe with me and Florin. I will walk him back once he has shown me where he saw the man originate from and has introduced me to 'kitty'. Thank you for allowing him to help us with this. He is quite a brave lad."
Malgant reaches down and hoists Peter onto one of his broad shoulders. He checks to be certain the lad is secure and then heads with Florin to Dulcet's house. As he goes he chats with peter about the area and where all the best spots are around here for playing hide and seek and seeing fun things.

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday December 12th, 2007 10:47:25 PM

Florin moves with Malgant and smiles as Malgant puts the kid on one of his large shoulders. Florin can't help but say something as he walks along, "I must admit that it would of been alot of fun growing up around someone like you Malgant. All the kids I went to school and such with were rich and snobby like. Not at all the friendly sort."

Florin smiles though and shrugs off his thoughts as he moves towards Dulcet's house also.

Arminas  d20+9=27
Thursday December 13th, 2007 10:45:00 AM

His searches unsuccessful, Arminas decides to take a different approach. Looking down, he notices that Reaper is behaving much more cat-like than he did just a few moments ago. Scooping up the cat, he gently strokes him.

"Well, I can't find any signs of note. Perhaps I will have a word with the animals. I'll check the stable first."

Arminas carries Reaper to the stable, and looks about for horses or other animals. When he spots them, he gently places Reaper upon the ground and offers him a bit of jerky from his pouch. Pulling out a scroll, he reads it and soon starts to speak with the creatures about him.

"Reaper, did you switch to speaking as a cat out of good taste, or can you no longer speak common? Tell me again, did you see this ghostly fellow or the fog? Do you know of Madam Dulcets whereabouts?"

Then, switching to the language of horses and/or any other creatures about, he asks

"Good creatures, we are in search of the lady of the house. Do you know where she is? Have you seen any ghostly or watery looking men about? Anything strange going on? Here, let me get you some fresh oats and hay."

Davros frowns as his wand reveals the aura has not been dispelled. "Worry not Bellowin. I will try again tomorrow. Whatever the spell is, it does not seem to have much effect on you now. How do you feel?"

"Bellowin, what do you know about Madam Dulcet's cat, Reaper? He seems quite extraordinary."

Davros flinches as he hears Harvest open a door. Waiting for a possible fire trapped explosion he yells to her. "Harvest, please be careful. Do you remember how all the student's rooms were magically trapped at the school? If you wait I will help you by looking for possible magic protections."

Montgomery  d20+10=12
Thursday December 13th, 2007 11:47:41 AM

With a graceful, feminine stride, the fanciful warrior goes inside and collects his platter. Looking at the platter, then to Bellowin, he hands it toward the servant, "Please, be a dear and clean this for me, while we search the residence?"

He then begins to watch Harvest to see what competence level they have in searching for traps. Seeing she is just about to open the door, he almost shrieks, "Waaaaiitttt!" Eyes wide, he approaches the door, "What are you attempting to do, destroy this house? Would you mind if I took a look at it first please?" Almost shooing her away from the door, Montgomery slips his gloves into his fine belt and begins to search it for traps.

Search door for traps: 12

Buzz: "I hate these dice." he exclaims as he walks to the back door and throws them across the alley and into the next street. All new dice tomorrow!

Bralin
Thursday December 13th, 2007 1:41:11 PM

Bralin is quite aware of Harvest's penchant for immediate action. Nearing the master suite, the dwarf stops a good 40' short of the door and waits for the "boom".

He makes no attempt to stop the monk. He has never succeeded before. Further such attempts are folly.

Lorth

Lorth does nothing as his skills are not useful in any of these situations. Rather he hangs to the back of the searchers, letting them do whatever it is they do.

Thursday December 13th, 2007 6:48:08 PM

"My Love, please don't do anything hasty. I will check out the library. Since Montgomery is helping Harvest, perhaps you could help me Davros. We don't want anything to inadvertently destroy Lady Dulcet's home."

A Cat Called Dulcet
Thursday December 13th, 2007 10:50:06 PM

Harvest goes upstairs, Montgomery and Bralin follow. She calls through the door and is about to open it when Montgomery stops her. The well dressed and slightly odd man goes over the door and discovers nothing amiss. he steps back and Harvest gives the latch a try. Harvest Will Save DC 17 FailureHighlight to display spoiler: { Everything goes completely black. You know you are standing, breathing and certainly alive but can see nothing and hear nothing. Putting your arms out and making a slow circle encounters nothing but empty space. The air is a bit chilly and smells slightly old.}
If Harvest fails she vanishes. The door is still closed.
If Harvest makes the save the door is locked.

Davros reassures Bellowin he will try again tomorrow. he turns to speak to Reaper, but the cat is outside already with Arnimas. The wizard then calls to Harvest for caution remebering the doors of the students at the school.

Lorth too, waits downstairs with Davros and Bellowin. From the base of the stairs he can see Bralin at the top looking down the short hall, likely where Harvest and Montgomery are.

Any heads to the library at Bellowin's direction and encounters a solid looking decorated oak door.

Arnimas arrives at the small stable where 3 horses are stalled. A scroll later and he begins speaking with them as well as Reaper.
Reaper-in cat language "Common? The language of the noble races. I was unaware I could, but yes I saw the fog. It came under the front door. I was getting some sun on the window pane. The servnt was in a differnt room doing whatever it is he does when not I do not need him. Dulcet soon..." The cat pauses and its ears go back and the hair bristles in his tail. Then as soon as it started he is calm. What follows is extraordinary.
Reaper in Common "Arnimas? Why are you carrying me and why do seem so large?" Reaper hops down.
One of the horses whinies, "Madame Dulcet! What has happened?"
The cat stops short of leaving and sits, its head cocks around to the ranger, eyes going wide. Again Reaper speaks in Common "By the ancient wood! It is I Arnimas." the cat says to the puzzled ranger. "Madame Dulcet. Medonius caught me unprepared, this was my last chance. A risky thing to do as memories get clouded and lost. Someone just tripped a spell trap in my home and that apparently set me more or less to right again. Come we need to go inside. There is much to discuss."

And with that Reaper/Dulcet bounds back towards the mansion

Malgant hoists Peter who seems quite happy about riding "Way up high" after assuring no arm will come to the child under his care to a worried father.

Sgt Hammer nods and with a quick hand gesture to the Specialist, the other escorts malgant and Florin out and takes position at the outside of the front door.

The walk to Dulcet Manor is accomplished fairly quickly under bright blue skies and light fluffy clouds.

Malgant, with Peter, and Florin round the corner as Reaper arrives at the front door. "Kitty!" Peter cries out. There's Kitty!"

Harvest Moon shakes herself, like a dog sloughing off water.

"Montgomery Witherspoon the Third," she says, "you were right."

"BEWARE!" she calls out to those below, "ANTHOS! THERE ARE MAGIC WARDS UPON THESE DOORS!"

She turns to the brightly dressed man and smiles up at him through her crest of mouse brown hair.

"I will be careful," she says.

"MADAME DULCET! WE ARE OUTSIDE THE DOOR. PLEASE RESPOND BY MAKING SOME SOUND. SPEAK, OR BEAT UPON THE FLOOR OR WALL."

Then Harvest draws close to the door and turns her head to listen.

Arminas quickly follows Reaper into the house, and closes the door behind them. He calls out:

"Everyone, come to the sitting room immediately!"

When all arrive, he says:

"I have found Madam Dulcet. There she is."

He points to the cat.

"Her spirit is in the cat, an escape from Medonius. I believe she may have something to say on the point of where her body resides. Madam Dulcet, would you be so kind to tell us how we can help?"

Harvest (2nd Post)
Friday December 14th, 2007 8:45:37 AM

No sound. No response.

Harvest Moon turns to the brightly dressed Montgomery Witherspoon and shakes her head in negation.

Arminas Calaelen calls, and she rises from the listening position, a small forest creature rising upon its hind legs the better to see about. Then she rushes off down the hallway in a flurry of rustling cloth, startling that one so small can move so swiftly.

Bralin
Friday December 14th, 2007 3:13:33 PM

If the dwarf has a response to Harvest's revelation that a door to a room used by a powerful witch who has instructed her servant to avoid is warded by magic, he chooses not to offer it.

Arminas calls that he has found Dulcet. Bralin steps against the wall to allow the more impetuous to hurry down the stairs, and then follows wordlessly after. His clinking armor announces his entrance.

Arminas' indication that the cat is Dulcet seems odd. But the elf appears so smugly superior in the knowledge, that surely he must believe it to be true.
Bralin waits patiently for the forthcoming explanation.

Greetings Woldians!

I am excited to tell you that BIG, even HUGE changes are coming for The Wold. The Wold is evolving and everyone one of you will be affected. But I'm not going to tell you about it here. I'm just going to whet your appetite:

--A new type of game
--Major changes to the website
--Greater choice for both DMs and players!

I will begin introducing the new material in the LnB sometime between now and Monday. You will need to start watching that board daily to understand what is going to be happening. This process will be ongoing for a bit, so you really do need to view the Loot 'n Booty board daily starting now.

I'm mass emailing this and also posting it on every game board so everyone sees it.

Enjoy your weekend!

Jerry

"This should be a good story."

Malgant
Saturday December 15th, 2007 9:23:36 AM

"The White cat Peter? Very fast work I must say. It seems to be going inside with Arminas following it so I think we should too." MAlgant lifts Peter down from his shoulder so thet he doesn't scrape the boy off as he ducks through the front door. By all appearances the cat has been talking before since everyone is looking at it as if expecting an explaination. When they look up at His Florin and Peter's entrance Malgant handles the introductions. " Everyone, thins is my new friend Peter Rand. Peter, this is Bralin, Anthos, Arminas, Davros, Lorth and Harvest, and someone I do not know." indicating the multicolored man gliding in with Harvest." Peter saw the attack on Ivy and led me here to talk to Kitty, who saw it too. He says that this is Kitty. What have you all discovered, you all seem quite anxious."

Lorth
Monday December 17th, 2007 7:53:23 AM

Lorth greets Peter with a smile, then turns back to Madam Dulcet, waiting for an explanation of what has happened to her. Hopefully Davros will be able to return her to her true form, he thinks.

Montgomery
Monday December 17th, 2007 11:16:08 AM

Holding his handkerchief up to his nose, he nods to Harvests statement, then watches as she rushes off, back to the others. "Energetic little thing isn't she?" Then he proceeds to follow her to the sitting room, eager to hear the story of a witch cat and her known rescuers. The feather in his hat has a slight bounce as he strolls through the house, critiquing the art work that may be available or the houses design. As he enters the room, the cat is seen and he bows deep, taking off his hat once again, then he finds a nice, comfortable chair and with a flourish crosses his legs, and continues to sniff his perfumed piece of cloth as if anticipating a good story.

Montgomery Second Post
Monday December 17th, 2007 3:39:00 PM

Walkling down stairs, Montgomery is taken aback by the bull headed figue in the room. His eyes grow large and an audible gasp is heard before, "Oh, my!" He looks to the others and regains his composure, before introducing himself to the new arrivals, "Charmed." Then toward Malgant, "I'm sure."

Harvest (2nd Post)
Monday December 17th, 2007 3:51:22 PM

"Montgomery Witherspoon the Third," Harvest indicates both the minotaur and the elf in bright gleaming armor, "this is Protector Malgant and Paladin Florin Jandeth. They are both also members of the Swords of Light."

"Protector Malgant and Florin Jandeth, this is Montgomery Witherspoon the Third. He, apparently, chanced upon the opened door to Madame Dulcet's home as I was investigating, and seeing a need, came to offer his aide."

"Greetings, Peter Rand," Harvest smiles at the boy. "My name is Harvest Moon."

Dulcets story
Monday December 17th, 2007 5:04:15 PM

The entire group gathers in the formal Dining room of the mansion. A splendidly decorated room of hickory oak and ash with cherry accents. The room itself is nearly 30' long and 20' wide, the grand table capable of seating over 40 guests. The white cat leaps to the table and moves to the center before sitting. Reaper swishes his tail as Malgant and Florin come in, but gives a friendly Meow when he spies Peter. As other introductions occur, Reaper returns to an annoyed tail twitching.

Soon enough though everyone settles and Reaper speaks up. First he asks about the nihts events and listens intently to them, though some of the keener judges of character can detect his annoyance as the story rolls on.
After hearing what has transpired , Reaper tells of the earlier day. The story is hardly what one would typically think of as a story, Reaper is consise and does not elaborate, his sentences being strings of facts. "Medonious caught me unprepared. I was forced to flee or perish. My former body is destroyed and while Arminas's name and the Culverwood sparked some memory as Dulcet, it was not until the spell trigger that I regained my full facuties, which I shall retain. Reaper is here as well and his personality does have an influence. Medonious is a powerful warlock and I suspect he posses some wizarding skills as well. He is a ghost and beyond all of you. Last night you prevented the Shadow Summoning. Very well done. My influence on the Council has been reduced and my condition must remain unknown. Take your information to Magpie. Two Council members live near there. Follow what they say." Reaper stops talking just as suddenly as he started and blinks at you.

Malgant
Monday December 17th, 2007 6:07:27 PM

Malgant blinks a few times as the cat begins to speak. slowly he gathers that the cat IS lady Dulcet. A fair part of his world starts to come crashing down , but he tries to hold it all together and make it all make sense. Still, most of what he says comes out as a blurt of disbelief.
"How did,...why are you...hold on a second. Let me get this straight. You are Lady Dulcet, stuck in your cat's body because Medonius surprised you. Somehow beyond luck we managed to stop him last night but he is beyond our ability to battle. WHats a shadow summoning? what would it have accomplished? How can we leave for Magpie crossing and let Medonius roam free while we are away seeking council? In case you hadn't noticed he SERIOUSLY doesn't like us and will strike at anyone he can to cause us pain. The trip to Magpie crossing would give him ample time to do that. We were able to harm him last night, though just barely, how do we destroy him? If you don't know for sure give me a theory and I'll run with that. I can't in good conscience leave here with him angry and ready o lash out at anyone he can find."
Malgant looks like he has almost snapped. Lack of sleep and all of these facts being thrown at him point blank are taking their toll on him. He calms some and simply asks, " What do we need to do in order to id the town, or the Wold, of him? If an answer might lie in your library, I beg of you to grant me access to it so that I can keep what he did last night away from the people of Jarlswolf."

Any
Monday December 17th, 2007 6:29:09 PM

"It seems as though there has been more going on than we had at first thought. It also appears we are not done traveling yet.

Mistress Dulcet, can you accompany us on this journey? Is there ought that can be done for your situation?

We might have to hope that your assessment of our ability to handle Medonius is in error. There might be no one else to do so. We must prepare as quickly as possible and begin. Sgt. Hammer and his troops will have to do for the protection of the town. I think that if we leave, much of the anger and danger will go with us. What think you all?"

Harvest
Monday December 17th, 2007 8:19:58 PM

... former body destroyed ...

Madame Dulcet.

The words beat at the temple of Harvest Moon's head. The form of the small boy blurs in her sight, overwhelmed by the enormity of events.

"I think, Anthos ... I think that we must know more. I see now that the circle upon Wolf Hill is a place that you must know, Madame Dulcet. If you send us away, then I think that you must know something of Medonius' ways and of his intentions. You would not put Jarlwolf in danger. You would also not send us away unless you felt this the correct course of action."

"But if we are to carry out your request, we must know the names and whereabouts of these two members of the Pitchfork Council."

"And we must also tend to your care, Madame Dulcet." Harvest Moon reaches up a hand and slides it across the polished surface of the table. Her white fingers peek from her over-large sleeve, the whiskered noses of tiny white mice. "I heard the words of Reaper. He had not eaten, having hunted all of the mice from your home. We will care for you." From within her sleeve, Harvest Moon's fingers tap the table. *tap*tap* "It would be ill of us to leave you to fend for yourself as a cat. Particularly if you must needs conceal a nature from others that only we now are aware of. Please come with us." *tap*tap* "We will care for you." *tap*tap*

Davros
Monday December 17th, 2007 9:07:25 PM

Davros shakes his head at the news. "So Madam Dulcet, you are stuck in this form, but you are now in control of it? Will your servant be able to provide for you now? I was unable thus far to remove the magic upon him. And is there any way to restore you?"

"It looks like we have somewhere to go. And if Medonius is too much for us to handle, then staying will be no different than leaving. We will need to rest. Should we rest before leaving or on the road? "

"I think we should stop at the Jerse household on the way. Itzal may have been misguided or charmed, but I feel we owe explanation or sympathies to the family nonetheless. I recall we needed some information from them as well. A certain mystery family member to be exact.' (Adzil Jerse?, Aiden? please help.)

Arminas
Monday December 17th, 2007 9:15:18 PM

So, her body is gone. Poor Reaper, he must be a bit confused at the moment.

"Medonius no doubt believes he succeeded in killing Madam Dulcet. She of course is correct, nobody can know he was unsuccessful or he will be back to finish the job."

Arminas turns and looks both at the young boy and the new poncy stranger.

"Medonius has no targets here that will cause us grief, save for Ivy's family. I think instead he will come after us, and if we are away from town we will actually cause less harm to these people when he does attack. My concern is with keeping this information secret. Boys talk, and we do not know this Montgomery. He may be a spy for Medonius. Medonius has lost Itzal as a pawn, I am sure he will find another. What do we do with them?"

Arminas then turns to Reaper, and while his spell is still active he says in meows of a cat: "Dulcet is with you, do not be afraid. She will care for you. Do you want to stay here or come with us. We will provide food and water for many days if you choose to stay. If you come with us, I will see to your safety and feed you."

Malgant 2nd post

At Arminas' words Malgant takes a small but deliberate step between the boy and the Ranger. "Peter will return home, as I promised his father he would once he showed me where he saw Medonius and spoke with kitty."

Florin Jadenth
Monday December 17th, 2007 11:56:46 PM

Florin listens to what is said and shakes his head, "I have learned the ways of destroying undead. I have made it part of my life."

Florin looks to the group and recounts what he knows of ghosts, "Ghosts stay till whatever linking them to the Wold is finished. Like if a person is murdered, he/she might become a ghost till the truth is learned or the person who killed them is brought to justice. Some times is can be as simple as giving said ghost a proper burial. What we did on the hill would of only succeeded in banishing him for awhile but in so many days he will simply return, starting at his common haunting ground." Florin strokes his chin abit as he thinks and sighs, "We have to know more about him, we need to know how he died, everything. Madam Dulcet, please forgive all the questions being thrown at you but I must ask one. Is there a place that gives a list of deaths and such in this area? Does the temple of Gargul keep recrods of that or something?"

Arminas - 2nd post
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 12:23:46 AM

Malgant's concern and motion makes it evident that he considers Arminas' words malicious.

"Malgant, I am not suggesting we do anything to harm these good people. Madam Dulcet has requested that her condition remain unknown. I only ask, how do we accomplish that now that you have brought a young boy into the house?"

Montgomery  d20+2=15
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 12:50:03 AM

Montgomery takes it all in wide eyed and continues to keep his hanky in front of his face, likely to conceal his mouth hanging open in regard to the entire scene and story. He occasionally eyes Malgant, up and down, as if attempting to measure his large frame.

At the thought of him possibly a spy, he scoffs at such audibly but adds no words to the absurd notion and waves it away without any more thought, the smell of roses wafting through the air from the perfumed cloth.

At Arminas's question, he finally speaks, "Honesty my good man, honesty." Montgomery greets the boy again and in a friendly if not self-righteous tone, he address the child, "You are not opposed to earning your keep as a hero are you?" From his silken pouch he pulls two silver coins. "Now then, you are being commissioned to perform a valuable service to your community. Here is payment in advance for your complete silence. You will receive two more on our return if you have remained silent, which I am sure you will. There are those here that can discern the truth from all, if necessary, but it won't be necessary will it, because you are a good person and want to help, don't you?"

If the boy agrees, Montgomery will shake his hand and add, "Hold true to your words and a great man you shall become."

He then sits back in his chair and continues to watch the others in their approach on things, yet does not interfere having no idea what has really happened before he arrived he this morning.

From his pack, he pulls a silver compact case. He flips the lid open and with his left pinky, he scoops some brownish snuff onto his long finger nail, then places it up to each nostril, removing it with a snort. Eyes water a bit and he coughs once, then seems to be pleased. With an audible click closes the container and puts the case away.

Diplomacy with Peter:15

DM has assumed uin his post a full account of the battle on Wolf Hill was related as well as the findings frrm Rowena and the encounter with Lyndon to Reaper and thus Montgomery knows it

Buzz: Thank you for that. The post would reamain the same with his actions.

Lorth
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 8:12:48 AM

Lorth agrees with Dulcet's assessment. There is no way they can kill Medonius in a frontal assault and he says as much, "I believe Dulcet is correct, Medonius is way above our skills. He could of easily killed us off at wolf hill, strange that he didn't, but I guess he has his reasons. All he needed to do was fly out of range and throw a few well placed fireballs. If he was any sort of competent magic user, and I think he is, next time we face him your missile spells won't hurt him at all. It is a wonder they did in the first place. I think our best course of action is to try and find a way to sever his ghostly essence from this plane of existance."
Lorth is distressed and he shows it...

Bralin
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 3:13:06 PM

Bralin scratches at his beard, contemplating the cat that claims to be Dulcet.

The dwarf concurs with Davros. "We require rest. Then we can seek out these other council members."

His eyes turn toward the feline. "Provided you have some proof you are who you claim to be."
Bralin has been played false far too often these days. He's not about to travel that road again.

Malgant
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 5:05:39 PM

Malgant listens to their views. He agrees with some. he disagrees with some. He strongly disagrees with some. Lack of sleep has his every nerve on edge. Instinctively he knows that Arminas meant no harm to Peter, yet reflexively he stepped between them. Some of the others are focusing too narrowly on the problem and not seeing all of the picture. Either that or he is seeing too much of the picture. Either way...
" I didn't step between you to protect Peter Arminas, it was to protect you. I think you all vastly underestimate the type of hero that Peter is. How many of us at the age of six would have been able to stand by and watch Medonius as he took Ivy away and caused general Havoc around her home, leading to the death of one of the Mailed Fist soldiers? How many of us at the age of six would have stepped directly up to an armored minotaur standing in their parlor and not meekly tld him the tale of seeing Medonius as he passed through town, but demanded with his force of will alone that the minotaur bow down to his level so that he could hear every word. Peter has done all of this already and is just six years of age. Having accomplished all of this, I am certain that when he returns home, Peter will be more than able to keep Lady Dulcet's secret without have any need of a bribe." Malgant looks down at the young boy, obvious admiration and respect in his eyes. The boy has indeed seen and dealt with much beyond his years.
" On another note, I would have to disagree with both Lorth and Lady Dulcet on our band being no match for Medonius. Florin stated that a ghost is held to the place that they haunt based on some event, usually a wrong done to them, in their life. Why are we not equal to the task of finding this wrong and righting it. It could be as simple as his favorite teddy bear was taken by some bully and he wants it back." Malgant chuckles." I highly doubt it is so simple, but running hither and thither trying to find the source seems unproductive. Unless these other council members know what the binding reason is for the haunting, I do not think that we all should be going to Magpie Crossing. Besides, there are tasks here that cannot wait to be accomplished. Itzal needs to be taken to his mother and she needs to be questioned about the Jerse that hired the Mailed Fist contingent in town. On the morrow I will do that. I would prefer to do it alone, with a small degree of tact and respect I think we can gain the answers we seek from Itzal's mother. However badgering, snooping and generally being overbearing or abusive of her will gain us less than naught. You will argue that splitting up makes us more vulnerable to Medonius. Well if together we are no match for himin combat, which I DO believe, then splitting up will make no difference at all. Also I do not ride. If I accompany you to Magpie Crossing the trip will take at least twice as long. I am the logical choice to stay behind. I suspect that Medonius's link is somewhere in or near Jarlswolf and probably has something to do either with the Jerse family or with the spell book we took from Itzal."

Arminas - 3rd post
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 5:50:12 PM

Arminas gets a puzzled expression on his face, one that not even a talking cat with the spirit of Dulcet produced.

"Protect me?"

He looks again at the boy, maybe he missed something.

Any
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 8:29:25 PM

"Hold on my friends. Once again we seem to have misunderstandings in our discussions. We all need to realize that we have different backgrounds, different experiences, and different points of view as a result. Do not jump to conclusions on someones statements alone. We all must learn the trust that comes only from long expereience with someone else. Many are new to our little band. We lost Desolute, who could have been an asset to us, over just such misunderstandings.

I agree that we must rest before we proceed. Many here were grievously hurt in the recent battle. Others need to rest to regain spells that will be needed should we meet Medonius again. All of us, I fear, are a little short due to lack of sleep and our exertions.

We have tasks that must be taken care of, information that we must learn--but not at this moment. Morning has come while we have been working to solve the riddles left to us. We should return the boy to his home with an assurance that he will tell no one what he has learned."

He says this with a glance at the boy.

"We should all go to return Itzal's body, and then we should rest. When all have rested we can then--with clear minds--discuss how best to proceed. Does this sound reasonable to all?"

Harvest (2nd Post)
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 8:44:28 PM

"Lai, lai." Harvest croons to the cat.

"Anthos is correct," she says, without looking up from the table. Her fingers *tap*tap*tap* "Let us not be so hasty with our decisions. Let us first, at least listen to more of what Madame Dulcet will say to us, before saying we will do this or that we will do that."

"Nyan, nya?"

Florin Jadenth
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 8:46:15 PM

Florin thinks to himself of how the return of Itxal's body is going to be a interesting one. The child's mother is going to be less the thrilled and who nows how his father may react, "I agree on the getting some rest."

Montgomery second post  d20+2=8
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 9:22:10 PM

Taking in the words from the others, he ignores the bribery comment as if it's beneath him, yet allows the child to decide on if his family needs the money or not. To him, there is no flaw in earning ones keep.

The name of Jerse, rings a bell. He scrolls through his mind all the nobles he has ever heard of or researched while at the academy.

"Perhaps I should deal with this lady Jerse then. Seeing as I myself being of noble blood and stature, it would be quite rude and out of character for her to disrespect me without I having first insulting their name."

His offer, is nonchalant in nature, indicating the groups disapproval of his plan would neither excite him or allow him to be less then himself.

Knowledge Nobility on Jerse name: 8

Plans and Decisions
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 10:03:00 PM

Reaper blinks the cat's face impassive, unsympathetic and unconcerned. How all cat's look. The only sign is her ears rotate as various members speak and an ever twitching tail. The cat then speaks, turning to look at each person he is specifically responding to. Again the information comes in concise samples with few elaborations.

To Malgant "A Shadow Summoning would allow him to come back. He will try again in 50 years if not destroyed. I do not know how to destroy him. My library contains no knowledge of Ghost"
To Any "I will remain here. I am myself in mind and skill if not body. I will be safe and prepared."
To Harvest "He is a witch. Wolf Hill is a Ley line. I remain here. Bellowin will see to any needs."
To Davros "I think I restoration is possible. I need time to study that."
To Arnimas "Reaper fully understands the situation. He is my familiar and was prepared for this."
To Any "The temple of Alemi does, But I do not think he was of here. Itzal seemed to encounter him first at the school from your tale"
To Lorth "Medonious did not bring about this condition to myself without expending a great deal of power. You met him the same night and he is limited as any other caster in that regard."
To Bralin "Proof?" the tail twitches. "I offer that I presented Caerthon, Paladin of the Watchful Eye, representing the peoples of Magpie Crossing to the Council and that I had Elbereth give you papers declaring you agents of the Council to search for Grynntymm Deeproot the Greenmage of Culverwood."

Reaper than turns his eyes back towards Malgant, "You are no match for him, but you may be equal to putting him to rest. There is a difference"

Peter looks innocently at Montgomery, taking the coins and marveling at them. "I will sir." He then looks proudly to Malgant even as the minotaur defends the child's courage.

Reaper continues, "The council must be informed. That was your task, but you are correct. Magpie is far." The cat sneezes and shakes his head, "It has been a long day for all of us. Stay here tonight, I have rooms. Bellowin?"

The servant steps forward, "Of course madam." He looks to everyone. If you please and Malgant I trust you will return as soon as young master Peter is seen home. I will prepare a room." He starts to turn then adds, I will serve refreshments and start a fire in the lounge where you may relax in comfort before retiring."

Malgant 2nd post
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 11:46:34 PM

"Thank you Bellowin, I shall return in a few moments once Peter is home. I strongly wish you would all reconsider going in force to return Itzal to his mother. She is already not pleased with us as a whole and Harvest in particular. Each member beyond a single delegate risked her being offended and withholding valuable information. As I said Lady Dulcet, I am well aware that in combat we are not a match for him. As Florin stated combat is hopefully not going to be required to set him to rest." Malgant gathers himself to go and addresses himself to Peter. " Let us get you home before your family worries overmuch about you. Holding out his hand he takes Peter's hand and walks him out of he house. Once outside he again hoists the boy onto his shoulder for the ride home.

Davros
Tuesday December 18th, 2007 11:55:49 PM

"I feel our path is clear. We will rest, then seek out the other council members at Magpie. It seems you have quite a comfortable home Madam Dulcet. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy it."

"Do you feel we should attempt to remove the lingering magic upon your servant? Also, I hope you can teach me this trick you have learned sometime. It would be interesting to see the world through the eyes of my familiar."

Davros looks at Malgant and then to Montgomery. "Perhaps it would be best if Montgomery did speak with the Jerses. He will be better recieved I think than Malgant or most of the rest of us. A few of us made quite a splash at that party."

OOC*** - Just out of curiosity, who is staying in this game and who is leaving? Thoughts/ Ideas?

Montgomery ooc
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 12:34:32 AM

As the ADM, I will only be able to stay if I retain the title. So, I can't say until later, if I will remain or not. If I do leave, it's not because I wanted to, this is a fun game.

Lorth
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 8:23:08 AM

Lorth looks at Malgant, "I said we are no match for him in a frontal assault. I said nothing about putting him to rest. I also think that you and Montgomery should go and speak with the Jerse's, the rest of us should stay away."
Lorth waits to be led to his room.

Bralin
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 9:51:07 AM

The dwarf gives the cat a short nod, a signal of both acknowledgement of her proof and acceptance of her offer.

Bralin adds an "Aye" to Lorth's comment of the party (save Malgant and the newcomer) avoiding the Jerze's altogether.

With that, the black armored figure turns to follow the servant to the rooms.

Harvest
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 10:10:02 AM

Harvest Moon leaves off her attempt to draw the cat to herself. Cats. They appear so soft. The brown girl sighs.

"Yes, I think it best if Montgomery Witherspoon the Third goes to the Jerse home with the body of Itzal Jerse. He is not known to be associated with us, and will most likely be received with greater fairness and more even temper."

"Will you take upon yourself this task, Montgomery Witherspoon the Third?" she asks. "You have heard our story and of the death of the boy. This will not be an easy task," again she sighs, "speaking to a mother about the death of her son. Speaking to her of his corruption at the hands of this Warlock Ghost."

Arminas
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 12:04:38 PM

Malgant leaves with the boy, and Arminas watches as he goes.

"I hope your trust is well placed, though I don't see any option but to trust the boy. It is well, when I was a lad on the outskirts of Merrydale the human boys were prone to mischief. Sometimes they spread stories that were true, and sometimes they would make up lies to cause trouble among the elves. Of course, it got to be that people wouldn't listen to them. Perhaps it will be the same with Peter. If he tells of a cat with the spirit of Dulcet most people wouldn't believe him. Besides, it sounds like we have 50 years to decide how to stop Medonius. Plenty of time for a good rest anyway."

With that, Arminas finds a room and is soon in a deep trance.

Montgomery
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 12:22:23 PM

"I don't believe telling a noble their child was corrupt is the best course of action, but I will relate to her an honest tale of how her son may have succumbed to dark magic and attacked the party with his skills. It is never easy, no, no, but must be handled none the less."

He looks around the house and adds, "I just awoke and broke fast but a few hours before dawn, so I must say, tired I am not, but if you all care to rest, I will assist in the return of Peter as you all prepare for slumber, and hopefully Bellowin will draw you all a much needed bath as well." The last said with his hanky up to his face again.

"Peter, do not share with anyone the fact you have coins, or you may find yourself in a corner, unable to tell falsehoods, which is not proper. Tuck them away somewhere and you may share in their knowledge and the other coins when we return."

The handsome stranger stands and once again bows to his lovely host, sitting there all fluffy and white, then looks to the others, "Where is the corpse of young Itzal Jerse? I must also change into something more appropriate to accommodate the mood of the day to come."

Bellowin returns the platter to Montgomery and the fighter hands the servant a gold coin, "Your day today will be busier then normal, what what with all the guests in the house. Please accept this as compensation for the added effort and for the cleansing of my feast gear. Now if you could assist with my wardrobe, so that my mourning clothes may be donned, I would be grateful." After but a moment, he repeats himself, "Morning, mourning, haha, I am a hoot, if I do say so myself."

He walks out to his animals and brings them inside the yard first, "Hello my babies, hello there. My you're an attractive couple, yes you are!" He pulls two carrots and places it with the top in his mouth in front of his horse and donkey, individually. As the animals eat the root hanging from his red lips, he lets go and kisses them on the nose. "Your such a cute duo, perhaps we could convince madam Dulcet to teach you both the manner of speech? No? "

He removes a medium sized box from the back of Matilda and introduces his animals to anyone interested. he carries the box to just inside the door and sets it down, out of the way, "Now, this needs to be aired out and wrinkle free before I can wear it." He tells Bellowin. "It should only take but a few moments."

Jarlswolf 1pm
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 4:41:51 PM

Reaper nods as Malgant says his final piece apparently in agreement with what he has said. Peter skips/jumps over and seems ready to stay or go as Malgant sees fit. Both are soon heading out the lounge and the front door into the sun.

Turning to look back at Davros, Reaper states evenly as he always has, "It is no trick for you to learn

Davros mentions Montgomery possibly being an excellent selection to go to the Jerse home. Lorth agrees and adds Malgant to the list. It is not stated but, the thought of the this new comer completely alone and beyond the groups help at the Jerse home does not sit well with the paladin.
Bralin too, acknowledges the plan of contact of the Jerse's and so to does Harvest. Though the monk of Alemi asks Montgomery what he feels of the mission. It will after all entail telling a mother the pride of her household and her eldest son is dead and possibly that his soul was condemed by association with an evil Warlock.

Montgomery excepts the assignment and sets to the task of readying for the ride. Bellowin accepts the coin without comment, but with polite nod and assists Montgomery as soon as he lights the lamps in the lounge and sets a tray out of fruit. He does not light the fire, as he needs to handle clothing and would not want to soil anything. Montgomery finds him an excellent man and fully knowledgable in his assistance.
Malgant finds Sgt Hammer at the front door and the old soldier gives him a deep nod and Peter a wink.
Soon the group is retired to rooms or the lounge, Malgant has returned and both he and Montgomery with the corpse of Itzal Jerse on a wagon behind the horse Montgomery walks is on their way out of town and towards the Jerse Farm estates.

Several hours later the pair and their cargo arrive at the gate of the Jerse Manor house. A man stands on the master suites balcony looking out towards the road and the visitors just arrived. He is dressed finely and is smoking a pipe. Grey hair pulled back and even from here Montgomery can sense he would give his own mother a run for her money on what is proper, how to dress and all such refined things. The man takes a puff, turns on his heel and re-enters the house, the doors open unseen as he approaches and soon he disappears through them, silken curtains billowing in the newly created draft.

Any
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 6:33:52 PM

Any listens to all of the preparations, a nod here and there in acknowledgement of what each person is intending to do. When Bellowin shows the group which rooms they are to use, he asks,

"Is there a bath that can be drawn--I can do it if you can show me where it is if there is one."

He will then retrieve his Haversack, and from its depths he draws a clean set of clothing, purchased at the same time he bought the clothes he is now wearing.

He will bathe, dress, and then before retiring, he will sit in the front room of the house working over his soiled, ripped clothes. He sings lightly, and then begins to pass his hand over the clothes--rips disappear and soil removes from the clothing as he goes. (prestidigitation) while still singing. This new song does not have he feeling of power about it, and in fact, the words are quite common.

"Soil and dirt, grit and grime,
All are removed while I sing my rhyme.
Rips and tears, hurt and rend,
All of these my work will mend.

Bath and wash, for body and soul,
Help to make a person whole.
Food and rest, and company fine,
Are the things that heal body and mind."

While his spell still lasts, he will offer to do the same for the clothes of any of the others who desire it.

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 7:23:10 PM

Florin sighs inwardly at how everything is proceeding and wonders what will happen next. He does move to visit Bralin abit, "Bralin, do you figure on trouble when we go? I mean from the Jerse's? I don't expect the kid's mother to let this go lightly, remember the party." He shakes his head, "I was proud of our acomplishments on Wolf Hill but now hearing how the ghost was weakened by Dulcet, it makes the acomplishment seem abit less great." Florin looks abit unhappy about this final part, he has been training to kill undead and now he just found out his training has a very long ways to go.

After seeing about something to possibly eat, Florin retires to clean himself, his armor and weapons and lastly get some sleep after saying his nightly prayers to Domi.

Malgant
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 7:33:16 PM

Having cleaned up before catching a small amount of sleep that morning, Malgant is ready when he returns from Peter's home to go with the new man, Montgomery Witherspoon. He had not hit it off well with this person, having been focused on the tasks at hand when introduced. He attempts to make up for that on the long, slow ide to the Jerse estate.
" Sorry for the circumstances under which we met. As we were introduced I am called Malgant and I aspire to become a Protector of Domi. Since I was called on to heal my companions after the events you heard tale of last night, I am unable to perform very many prayers today. Hopefully with your obvious tact and charm there will be no need for them." (Malgant will relate the Swords of Light's dealings with the Jerse family to date so that he understands why the lady of the house is not the Sword's biggest fan)" I am unsue how much of the blame she will lay at my feet for these past transgressions against her family, but I have broad shoulders and will accept some of what she is sure to send my way. In truth though, Itzal brought a great deal of this on himself by dabbling where common sense should have warned him not to tread. However I know about being young and craving power, it can be blinding sometimes. Would you favor me with some knowledge of yourself? I would wish to know more of someone like you, who would willingly thrust themselves into this type of danger when hey could just as easily carry on with their life as if nothing bad had happened." Malgant listens to any tale that Montgomery chooses to share with him.
As they approach the Jerse house and they see the man on the balcony, pobably waiting for a delegation simialar to theirs Malgant once again tells Montgomery what he knows." That was no man I have yet met here at the Jerse estate. My best guess would make that Lord Adrik Jerse, the man who hired the Mailed Fist men that are now in town. Why he is here and what role he has played or will play in this is unknown to me. How do you propose we proceed? wait here for them to come out of the house to us or proceed up to the house ourselves?"

Harvest
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 8:38:07 PM

Fresh and pink from the bath, Harvest Moon changes from her old and tattered sack dress into the nice crisp blouse and skirt that she and Anthos had purchased while shopping in Rowena. So long ago. So so long ago.

In the common room, she sits upon the floor beside Anthos as he croons his simple song. Her head leans against his thigh. Her eyes are far away, lost in unknown lands.

"I wish to go to Magpie Crossing, Anthos," she says, her voice soft and distant. "It calls to me. It shows me the road and I see myself walk upon it."

"I care for you so very deeply, Anthos," she says. She turns to him. She buries her face against him. The tears from her eyes stain the material of his trousers.

Arminas
Wednesday December 19th, 2007 10:50:15 PM

Arminas arises from his trance and looks about his room. Dulcet has been well blessed, and the furnishing and trappings are nice. Yet he can not escape the feeling that the walls are closing around him. It has been a long day, and Arminas' mind goes back to the death of Itzal.

It was I who killed him. I should not have brought the bats, they smelled blood and did what was in their nature.

Suddenly, Arminas rises and grabs his gear. He leaves out the front door in such a hurry that he almost knocks over Bellowin.

"Excuse me, I need some air."

Arminas runs to the Inn's stable and calls to Darkfire. Leaping upon his back he coaxes the horse into a gallop to the deepest nearby forest. Whistling, he hears the cry of Ewan high above. Soon he is deep in the forest and slows Darkfire to a walk through the trees. Slowly, peaceful feelings start to replace the memories of the dark night.

Lorth
Thursday December 20th, 2007 7:31:46 AM

Lorth goes to his room, strips off all his gear and calls for Bellowin. When he arrives Lorth hands him all his garments and undergarments, "Could you please have these washed by one of the servants.", he says handing the man a gold piece. "That should easily cover the cost. I thank you for this service." He then sets to cleaning, polishing and repairing all his gear. After that is finally finished he calls for a bath and soaks, immediately after falling into a heap on the bed, fast asleep.

Bralin
Thursday December 20th, 2007 10:47:14 AM

Bralin strips off his armor in preparation for the night's rest. It is the first night he has not slept in it for some time, and even the sturdy dwarf appreciates the noticeable lack of weight.

Florin approaches, and Bralin gives him a welcoming nod, indicating a nearby spot.

"The Jerze's will be trouble," he opines with a sigh. "But, I fear it will be political - accustations, innuendo and the like. Mayhap later they will hire assassins. We are safe on the morn, but later? I know not."

As for the paladin's concerns on the night's action.
"Even a pebble, properly placed, can serve as the final stone of a great dam. We do our part, as best we may, and take our pleasure in our success, no matter how small. Medonious is thwarted this day. Ivy is safe. Dulcet is found. Are these not successes?"

Montgomery  d20+2=15
Thursday December 20th, 2007 1:26:41 PM

Montgomery changes into a solid black riding garment. Unadorned and without frills. It is obvious, he does not wear it often. His tall black riding boots come up past his knees and folded down. He has a wide brimmed black hat as well, without the typical feather one would expect, A black fish net veil, pulled down in front of his powdered face. He mounts Baxter, swinging up on the left side and bringing his right foot, up, around and back onto the left of his side saddle. The horn sticking out in a 45 degree angle on the left. "Come Baxter, we are the bearer of bad news today." He starts off in the direction Malgant decides is the path and rides his horse much as a sailor rolls with the waves of his vessel

Malgant speaks to the poofter while in transit and with his left hand, waves away the apology, as if unnecessary."Think nothing more about it. I have created a variety of emotions and comments upon introductions, to say yours was the most insulting would be untrue." The yellow hanky replaced by a dark one, differently scented then the other as well, fly's through the air with his wave. When Malgant comments on his obvious tact and charm, a smile can be seen from beneath the veil and he replies, "Of course." He listens to Malgant and replies in kind, "Party crashers? Indeed, that would bunch up my panties as well, I dare say. It's odd they did not ask you to leave? Please, allow me to do all the talking and only interrupt me if I am completely wrong in the order of histories that have transpired. Now, what will likely occur will be a greeting of some type, then questions. I will answer the questions in a context that will neither make your group look the hero, nor the villain, but will place them somewhere in the middle. Anything else and their minds will close like a oyster holding preciously onto a black pearl. Then a formation of well placed insults, guided to allow them to become better and more civil then us should follow. We will not allow that to happen. Their words are merely hot air that one must allow to breeze by you, untouched by emotions. Once they see we are stead fast, and do not protest to much, they will be forced to seek other measures for their grief. No, no, never easy, but necessary, none the less. Now, if they ask you direct questions, I want you merely to reply, Montgomery is our spokesperson, in this way, they can not demand anything from you and appear your better, as they would a servant."

"Any questions?"

"Oh, you want to know about me? What, what, it just so happens, that's my favorite subject, haha."

"Father is a Plateau City general who's mind is as sharp as his favorite weapon. Mumsey is a decedent of the Lord of Diamonds and is as beautiful as she is wealthy. She married well beneath her, but that just proves, love is as blind as a mole suspended in the air. I trained as a warrior at the great academy. Father had hoped I would be a great soldier and follow in his tracks. After he received undue ridicule from his peers he did not feel one whom is flamboyant should be a member of his house, so, I have been disowned by him. I felt that action was a travesty of justice. I only wanted to be who I am, so, I have taken it upon myself to right other injustices, in the name of Pantheon and I hope to someday have more money them him, so that I may rub it in his bigoted face." All said without a hint of malice to his family, but simply stated as a fact.
"I speak enough of myself for now, lets talk about you, eh? What do you think about me?"

When they approach the house, finally, Montgomery attempts once again to determine if any devices for the family is recognizable to him. "We must approach them. Further insult to their pride and family likely could not get worse, but we must be stoic with courage and honesty to prevail."

Malgant
Thursday December 20th, 2007 7:36:06 PM

"Pantheon. Hmmm, it would appear that you have indeed arrived at an opportune moment. A mediator of Pantheon would be most helpful in returning Itzal's body to his family for proper burial. I would not have picked you for a warrior, even with that flail you carry. I have not seen you wearing armor, so might I assume you to be more of a swashbuckler than a line soldier? As you can guess most of my size do not put much faith in ability to dance nimblely away from a blow and trust in our armor to deflect it. Still a swashbuckler can make for a difficult opponent. Pity your father did not see it that way. You ask how I perceive you and I would have to say that you seem quite light both in your bearing and in your spirit. You are matter of fact and only honey your words when it would seem to be to your advantage. To me at least it would seem that you present this side of yourself for a couple of reasons. First it tends to make overly serious people who could ruin your mood and bring you down to avoid you, passing you off as some fop not worthy of their time. Second it tends to draw people that are positive and willing to put their best foot forward to you, enhanceing the mood that you set sround you and generally creating a very positive air around you. I think you might have missed your true calling as a bard. The positive feelings that you surround yourself with would likely net you a great deal of fame and fortune as a bard. Even on this dreary mission which I am afraid will turn decidedly bad you have managed to make me see a glimmer of hope.Hope that the Jerse family will be more happy that we have taken the time to return their son to them and less inclined to lay blame at our feet." Malgant goes silent for a moment, mulling over what he has said. It is true. His warriors eye feels that the man is too poofy to be an effective warrior, yet looks can be quite deceiving. A thousand small cuts will still kill you, and by far the best tactic in a fight is not to have heavier armor to distribute a blow, but to not take the blow at all.
"You asked to hear more about me then. I will start with my name, or rather lack there of. I apologize that I have no surname that I may offer you. I am curently in exile from my home and not allowed to use the name of my clan. I was sent away to prove that I am worthy of their respect. I led a defense against very superior numbers and caused the death or serious injury to befall most of the Taur under my leadership. The other priest with me in this defense called it reckless and said that I sought only glory. Though that is not entirely true, and had we not engaged the undead when and where we did many civilians would have been harmed it was true enough that I did not dispute his claim. It was our elders punishment that I leave my home and travel, to make the name for myself that would travel back to them proclaiming me to be the hero that I sought to be that day. Only then will I be allowed to use my family's name again."
When they arrive, Malgant steps forward and opens the gate and holds it for Montgomery. He likes the idea of Montgomery as the spokesman for the Swords in this endeavour. As a follower of Pantheon he will likely make sure that both sides of the story are spoken, and hopefully heard. Malgant makes sure that his holy symbol lays outside his armor in plain view. He leaves Itzal in the wagon for now, hoping to ease the family to the truth, rather than slap them in the face with it. He mutters a quiet prayer as he awaits the opening of the front door. " Domi grant me the strength to endure."

Any

"My Love, what troubles you? Perhaps you need rest, or if you would like to talk, let us find a more private room."

His look of concern is evident upon is face.

"What has been done here could not have been avoided. It may have been possible to change some of the outcomes if more time had been available, but the heat of battle prevented that. Please. Speak to me."

Montgomery second post
Friday December 21st, 2007 11:48:34 AM

Montgomery takes in the words of the protector to be. "Swashbuckler? I've never thought of myself as one, but I suppose the description does fit."

He then taps his chest and the sound of armor can be heard underneath the black fabric, "I wear a chain shirt alone. I do enjoy the effect of being light on my feet, but I have no problem with standing toe to toe with a foe."

He continues to listen to Malgant and laughs out loud at the thought of becoming a bard, "No disrespect to the profession, but I can not see lowering my station to that of a common performer." Then he shrugs his shoulders and continues, "Although, I do enjoy playing for Baxter and Matilda. Haha, that would not only drive my father to the grave, but cause him to spin within it as well."

He is quiet as Malgant relates his story and it seems, these two misfits are not far from the same story, with but a few alterations.

Harvest (2nd Post)
Friday December 21st, 2007 11:57:22 AM

Harvest Moon nods. She stands and dabs at her eyes with a big floppy sleeve before taking his hand and retiring to the room designated to them by Madame Dulcet and her manservant Bellowin.

In the room, she seats herself primly upon the edge of the bed.

"I did not think, when I accepted the mantle of Walker from Solonn in the lands of Parnoth, of how such a vow could change one." Her voice is quiet. Her face is solemn. "A vow is, after all, only words. It is the person who controls his or her destiny in the end. To Walk, to wander, is only so far as a person wishes it to be. These were my thoughts as I walked with Solonn."

"But I have found that a vow, come often to mind, changes one as time passes. The vow that one takes, comes to take one as well. I have found myself increasingly wishing to be on with things. The long time that we lingered in Windtree wore greatly upon my soul. New paths pull at me to walk their length, and I feel my heart answering their call."

Harvest Moon throws herself into his arms, and she holds fiercely to him.

"I do not wish to leave you, but I find myself called. How can I expect you to leave these brave companions and the good work they do? But how also can I stay when I find myself torn in twain?"

Jarlswolf and the Jerse Home 5pm
Friday December 21st, 2007 12:46:32 PM

Bellowin shows Any to one of the Bath chambers and draws him a bath. He also stokes up the fire and places several warming rocks on a grate above it. With a small dip of his head he leaves Any.

Lorth calls Bellowin in and the man is promptly present. He accepts the coin without fuss and nods, "I will have them taken care of sir." Bellowin then tells Lorth that Any and Harvest are in the rear sitting room and that Any is presently under the same tasks that Lorth seems about to undertake, if he wishes to find company. With a nod, Bellowin is off.

Arnimas feels the lack of sleep, even for an elf, and the weight of what is going on and soon finds himself in the woods to the west of Jarlswolf. His mind begins to clear as the sounds of the animal world about him sift through his darker thoughts and conscious.

Harvest catches up with Any as he repairs his clothes and gear and the woman curls up next to him. The air is soon filled with the whispered conversation that those of a deep and binding freindship and love feel for each other when it seems the fates will be forcing them apart. A disengaged portion of Harvests mind hears the door softly close and and Bellowin's voice diverting someone to another room of the house.

Florin and Bralin speak a bit on the previous night's combat. The Paladin is a bit grave on the victory knowing the ghost was not at his full power, but the dwarf reminds him of what they did. Weakened or no, they drove him back. Banished Medonious from this world, prevented Ivy from befalling something horrible, freed one of the men the Ghost had taken and possibly the entire town of Jarlswolf. Florin knows Medonious is still out there and as someone trained to destroy the undead he has an unfinished task that he will see through to the end.

Davros finds refreshments, study and soon after, much needed sleep come to him

On the way to the Jerse home, Malgant fills in Montgomery and attempts to get to know the man a bit better. Almost 4 hours of walking provides ample time. Malgant guesses the man's identity and defers to Montgomery on the next step of action.

The gate open, Montgomery enters and makes his way up a small stone laid path to the front doors. The house is simple in comparison to Manor Dulcet, but as an outer rim building and not being in town proper, it is well worked enough. Montgomery thinks the house at one time to be the main ownership to a vast plantation that would have stretched for hundreds of acres, but now perhaps harder times or poor decisions have shrunk the holdings considerably. The surname of Jerse and the bunched wheat symbol above the door spark no memories to Montgomery. Semi important they may be in Jarlswolf, they are not so that he has heard of them.

The knock upon the front door is answered promptly by a servant dressed well, but not overly so. A quick inquiry and answer later and Montgomery and Malgant find themselves in a small sitting room off the main foyer awaiting the master, or so the servant said. A few minutes pass and the servant returns with some refreshments and shortly after that the gentleman seen upon the balcony enters. He wears his hair well kept and tight on the sides and back. Under an embroidered ž length silk and wool coat is a finely crafted silk shirt of golden hue. His well fitted and tailored pants are also made of silk and upon his feet is a pair of short soft black leather boots. The air about him is perfumed and mixed with the smell of cherries emanating from his pipe. Both Malgant and Montgomery can tell this man saw the wagon and knows what the visit is mainly about. After a long drag on the pipe and exhale, "I would now hear why such grave news is brought to the door of my house. I would also know why you stand and speak for this taur." The final word spoken with near disgust, as if the pronunciation of it somehow left him soiled.

Any holds her in his arms, rocking gently, saying nothing.

How could he have been blind to the changes? What to do now?

This would require some thought. Decisions would have to be made. But for now they are together. For now, this must be enough.

Montgomery  d20+1=3
Friday December 21st, 2007 7:42:53 PM

Montgomery stomps his feet twice, to remove any loose soil and enters. With little regard for the servant, he hands his hat and gloves to the person and follows them where they are to wait.

With keen eyes, he takes in the scene of the house and watches carefully as the gentleman enters. Montgomery offers to shake hands with him,. Sure to make his signet ring visible. "Montgomery Witherspoon the third here sir. Please allow me to share my condolences on your loss as well as the situation. It appears that conflict between locals has brought the demise of a person named Itzal Jerse. In this regard, I am not aware of his relation to you, but I had hoped to turn the body over to his Mother or Father personally." Montgomery makes it clear that his wishes will be fulfilled before he continues and ignores, as he said he would, the slight toward Malgant, without giving the slightest thought to it.

If he is the father, he gets his name before he continues, if not, this would not be said until one arrives.

"My apologies once again for your loss, but it appears there is an evil spirit, manipulating the fair citizens of this community. Your son, those that call themselves the Swords of Light, Lady Ivy who is betrothed to the Paladin Florin." Montgomery looks back at Malgant and confirms it, "Florin? Yes, that's it. All of Lady Ivy's family as well as the Mailed Fist, who also happened to sustain casualties and some innocent worshipers of Waard. As things have escalated, this spirit has used all of you to it's own device and I dare say, from what I am to understand of things, it may take the resources of all those I just mentioned to stop this creature."

Montgomery lets it all sink in, how there family was not the only ones manipulated by the evil ghost. How everyone was effected in a negative manner and the repercussions of the scene.

"That is the situation as it stands. It is my intention to seek out a Priest of Pantheon so that they may listen to all sides of the story and perhaps find if anyone is involved with this creature by choice. If so, restitution will be expected. I will personally assist the church in any judgements that may be found and if no priest or those gifted by the deity to perform such rituals, we will seek out the council and allow them to decide." All of this said, not in an accusatory manner, but in a way to communicate, that if the Shields are also guilty, they too will have to pay restitution.

Montgomery realizes that they likely are not to be blamed for anything except being nosey, but how many lives were saved may also help in that decision.

Montgomery watches every muscle in the mans face as he finally asks them all, "Have you ever heard of Medonius?"

It is so safe and warm within the circle of his arms. He holds at bay, the Wold outside. Within the loving sphere of his influence the terrible acts of the night before cannot come. The droning fatigue of yesterday's long journey and the even longer night must remain without. Even the pull of her own wakening nature is but a dim voice that may not enter.

As Montgomery speaks, lord Jerse listens gravely without the slightest reaction to most it. He does seem a bit upset on the mentioning of manipulating spirits, but seems to dismiss the feeling. "I see and so I too will be conducting my own investigation into these matters Mr. Witherspoon and I will also be lending my full support to see that proper reparations are made. To this Medonious you have mentioned." he pauses, "the name is unfamaliar to me, but you claim it the grand architect of all I have heard of. You will have to exuse me Mr. Witherspoon if I do not take your word for it. You are here, because the rogue band Swords of Light thought it best they not impose upon my sister a second time. The wood, which should be so alive with life it utterly and completely quiet, save his own passage. As Arnimas thinks to turn and gaze about himself a light voice, like that of a child calls out, "You appear in need of something my friend. Malgant had told Montgomery he would remain silent, and through the barbs and smudges to himself he has. When the pompous Jerse before him tries to belittle the service that Montgomery has just afforded Itzal, Malgant no longer wishes to remain silent. Reaching into the pouch about his neck he withdraws the ring he found on Itzal last night. Not needing to step forward due to his size he thrusts it out in his open hand to Adrik Jerse. " This was among Itzal's possesions when he died last night. You would do well to remember that a polished story might put people other than the Swords of Light in a better place due to it's polishing. Also the reason that Montgomery has no other version to tell you than the one we offer him is because no one else will share the knowledge of what Itzal has been conspiring with for the past few months with us so we may put an end to it. Had we gained his mother's confidence we may have saved Itzal. Now as we are no closer to the truth, likely Medonius will claim more lives. I felt it was right to return Itzal to his family that they may grieve him properly. That is done. As no other information about the ghost that brought him to this end can be gleaned here, there are many other important tasks to attend to. Good day Mister Jerse. By the by, the Mailed Fist contingent you hired has proven most helpful so far. I will let them know that you are at the Jerse home when next I see them that they may take their cue from you."

Montgomery (AC: 19/23 HP: 45 full defense)
Monday December 24th, 2007 5:33:47 PM

Montgomery takes in the words of the would be noble. Although his appearence is that of one, his manner is not and Montgomery knows, he dislikes the man. However, that can not be relayed through facial expression or words. "I see." Is what Montgomery gets out before Malgant begins to share his thoughts on the matter. On the inside, Montgomery rolls his eyes at the comments of the Minotaur, but lets him get it off his chest with a stone face without expression.

As Malgant reaches out with his long arm to give Jerse the ring, Montgomery continues, "Are you threatening to hold us hostage sir? If that is the case, I must assume my life is in peril if I attempt to leave?"

Montgomery waits with caution, ready to use full defense on any engagement from hence forth, until they leave the property of these people.

Montgomery never had a chance to say his spiel. He loves to listen to himself talk and that chance has been thwarted. He's really angry but barely shows it. "Indeed."

He claps his hands summoning the servant for his gloves and hat.

ooc: I misunderstood if that is the case, but if Montgomery didn't talk to a parent, most of that was unsaid. With that, he would take the threat of Adrik as if to prevent them from leaving. If not, that's even better.

Jerse Manor take II
Tuesday December 25th, 2007 2:00:33 PM

DM note.. As I am reading the gang at the Jerse House, Montgomery is not going to tell Adrik the story. So we need to have a little revamp. We are shifting back a few posts. Malgant has not held out the ring or said his piece.

Adrik Jerse stands clamly at the introductions of Malgant and Montgomery. He does not extend his hand, The man nods at Montgomery, "I am Lord Adrik Jerse and you will be speaking with me on these matters."

"Mr. Witherspoon what do you know of this conflict between locals and resulted in the direct death of my nephew?"

Montgomery politely insits on speaking to a biological parent.

"That is not necessary and in this particular case wise. I am the head of this household and hold those under it to my authority. You have just brought the body of my nephew to the door step and I will know what happened." He breifly looks to Malgant, "I know of the taur and his affiliation to a gang known as The Swords of Light. I was informed they accosted my sister and the rest of this house naught but a few weeks past at best. Now Mr Witherspoon, if you please. What local conflict killed my nephew?"

Montgomery
Tuesday December 25th, 2007 2:23:50 PM

Rather confused with the situation, Montgomery takes in the words of Adrik. Why would grown adults live under another? Oh, sure, Montgomery used to, but he was going through the academy at the time, he wasn't married with children. A very strange family indeed.

The pompous warrior has obviously been out pompoused by the elder aristocrat. Montgomery refuses to allow his stature to bend though. This individual obviously does not understand the true nature of his family, yet now is not the time for a lesson.

"My apologies once again for your loss, but it appears there is an evil spirit, manipulating the fair citizens of this community. Your nephew, those that call themselves the Swords of Light, Lady Ivy who is betrothed to the Paladin Florin." Montgomery looks back at Malgant and confirms it, "Florin?

I will personally assist the church in any judgements that may be found and if no priest or those gifted by the deity to perform such rituals, we will seek out the council and allow them to decide." All of this said, not in an accusatory manner, but in a way to communicate, that if the Shields are also guilty, they too will have to pay restitution."

Buzz ooc: Just blend the next things said together if you like DM, I suppose leading up to the scream.

Montgomery is listening to Adrik as the screams occur, yet he does not allow it to cause his demeanor to falter.

Merry Christmas everyone!

"Wrong?" the disembodied voice asks. "What is wrong with these woods is what you bring with you Arnimas Calaelen of the Culverwood. Your path lead you to where your heart desired. I am called Blossom by the language of the noble races." There is a shimmer in the air and a small fairie appears. Dressed in greens and browns with a small sword and bow the being wear a smile and gentle coutenance.

"I am a protector and watcher in these woods. If you seek solice and the companionship of your own thoughts I will abide by those wishes and leave you be. I caution you that the Wold feels you Arnimas and if you take the the Wold to darker places, those darker places may return the favor."

The fairie hovers a moment for the rangers reply and if dismissed he fades to nothing and leaves Arnimas be.

Malgant stands quietly as Lord Adrik Jerse adresses him with disdain. He sighs inwardly, if only other people were as kind as the Swords when first meeting him. As Montgomery begins to tell the tale of Itzal's fate Malgant remembers the ring he took from Itzal's charred hand. He reaches slowly up to his neck pouch and removes the ring. He has cleaned it so that no traces of the gruesome fate that befell Itzal remain on it. When there is a break in Mongomery's tale, Malgant reaches forward with an open hand to present the ring to Lord Adrik. " This was Itzal's ring, It was fouled by grime when I removed it from his body. I have cleaned it and return it now to you. Sadly the protective magic it contained was not enough to save Itzal. I am sorry for your loss."
It would seem that Lord Adrik is now in charge of the Jerse estate. Malgant has no idea how these human affairs of Nobility work out so he goes with what he sees. Lord Adrik is arrogant true, but he does not have the bad history with the Swords that Lady Jerse does. This could still all end well.

Harvest can see the man is quiet upset, no that would be the wrong phrase, near livid with anger would be more to the point. Though it seems the professionalism with which Harvest greets him goes a long way. With a restraining deep sigh, he first tries to calm himself. "What brings me by is the man lying on a slab at the temple of Domi. What brings me by is the body of Itzal Jerse, realtion to my employer rolled off in a cart towards his home. What brings" he stops and forces himself calm again. "What brings me by, Miss Moon, is the use of part of my unit in the attack and death of Itzal Jerse and thier subsequent disappearence. The Swords of Light seem to be at the top of each of those items and I was informed I could find you here."

He is at the door alone, his mount standing in the road. "Given an enlightening conversation last we met, I am hoping that a reasonable explanation is forthcoming. May I come in or shall we hold this in the doorway?" After a heartbeat he then nods towards Any, "Sir." he states simply in greeting.

His tunic is partially disheveled revealing the whole of the tattoo. Religion DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {Woldian High Symbol of Pantheon}

Your men accompanied us, I am sure, from the same sense of justice that Pantheon instill within you."

The brown girl's eyes drop to the floor.

"Would that I could have subdued Itzal Jerse and returned him to Jarlwolf alive. In the darkness and the heat of battle, though, he was slain."

Harvest then tips her head to one side.

"Did I hear you correctly Lance Corporal Lynon of the Wolf Regiment of the Mailed Fist? Did you say that your men had disappeared? Anthos, did not Protector Malgant and Paladin Florin Jadenth say that he and one other had remained at the home of Ivy's family in order to provide them protection?"

Although--all were tired from the battle and the lateness of the activities, so they may have turned duties over to others and retired. We did not initiate this battle. It was brought upon us. In fact Lady Harvest here attempted to make peace with those with whom wew enagaged in battle--they attacked first after her offer of a peaceful resolution. Your men can confirm this. As for Itzal Jerse. He has attacked us on several occasions, and even so was given the opportunity to surrender to judgement and did not. We believe that he was either under the control of an evil force known as Medonius--a ghost--or that he himself was partnered with that spirit. The man in custody can give evidence to support this also. We have been acting under the orders of Mistress Dulcet of the Council, and she herself was attacked by this same Medonius, and can give testimony to that as well.

I hope that this answers many of your concerns and questions." (diplomacy 17)

Lynon at Dulcet's
Friday December 28th, 2007 12:43:21 PM

Lynon does indeed enter the house, but goes not further than the entry palor. Deciding that merely indoors in sufficient enough. Reaper is nowhere to be seen or heard by the keen sensed Harvest. The Corporal's jaw sets as Harvest relates the past events from about 18 hours ago. Spot DC 15Highlight to display spoiler: { at the mention of Pantheon, Lynon becomes a bit uneasy for a momnet. It passes quickly, but he adjusts his overcoat to agin conceal most of the tattoo. Was there a sense of fear in his normally confident visage?}
At the end, he nods, not in agreement to anything, but simply as acknowledgement that he was listening. "I have not spoken to my men, not knowing where they were. I had left them with orders to remain at the Domi temple. I must apologize for earlier thoughts of ill will towards you are yours. Prior intelligence seems to be lacking in its absolute clarity and, well misconceptions were inferred." He pauses a moment in thought, looking at neither of them and both at the same time. "Medonious you say. I swear I have heard that name, or something very similar. I can not put my finger on it, but will get word to you straight if I do. If you will excuse me then and point me in the direction of the house Sgt Hammer and my Specialist is at? Ma'am, Sir, Thank you."

With that and the snap of his heels, Lynon moves smartly to his horse and with a mount that seems as fluid as breathing, he is up and moving his steed towards the house where Ivy and the other soldiers of The Mailed Fist are.

A sigh escapes the lips of Harvest Moon at the man's departure. Her face drops back into an expression gray, cloudy, and lost.

Then a frown creases her brow.

"Anthos, did you note the discomfort in Lance Corporal Lynon? I think it came as I invoked the name of Pantheon." (Spot 18) She puzzles the man's reaction for a moment. "I mentioned Pantheon as he had a tattoo partially hidden by his tunic. The tattoo, it was the High Symbol for Pantheon."

"Why, now, do you think that mention of the god of justice would cause him unease when it is he himself who chooses to wear the symbol upon his body?"

She mulls the question, considering in what situations one might wear such a tattoo. (Knowledge Local 14 /Untrained)

"Do you think there might be something beyond this that is at play, Anthos?"

OoC: Might need some help here, Lyle. Untrained, a Knowledge check can never be more than a DC10 or Common Knowledge. I make the DC for this, but Common Knowledge may not be enough. A bardic knowledge check, or if you have Knowledge Local, might fit the bill nicely.

I'm wondering if this might be a symbol tattooed onto criminals.

CDM Jerry: OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Saturday December 29th, 2007 11:58:58 AM

Greetings Woldians,

I hope you've been keeping up with the changes we've been discussing on the LnB. If not, you have a novel to read amongst all the posts.

Basically, we're doing the following things:

--purging all 2nd characters from everyone except DMs...that's their reward for being a DM.
--We're adding a new type game: Challenge Games. It is a 2 year campaign game. We're calling our normal games Career Games.

Anyway, because of the Challenge Games, which will begin ASAP for their first 2 year run, as well as the pruning of the 2nd characters, we'll be holding a vote starting

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2ND

...and ENDING on

MONDAY, JANUARY 7TH

We'll be voting on one thing only:

Do you want to play in a Challenge Game or a Career Game?

If you choose Career Game, I"ll want a second piece of information. I will need to know if you want to remain in your current game or move to another.

That's it.

Voting is NOT accepted until January 2nd and all votes will be emailed to me here at gericko@gmail.com. I will not accept votes that are made on the LnB, though you may post your vote there if you want.

If you don't vote, then the ACDMs and I will be PLACING you into a Challenge game by default as that is the "new thing" and we're kinda pushing it as a new option.

Let me repeat that and reword it:

If you don't vote you lose your right to choose your game and WILL be placed. Yeah I know that is hard, but we're moving forward and don't want to have votes trickling in weeks later.

This email is just to get your attention in case you haven't been following the information overload on the LnB.

If you have a question about all this or are now totally confused, reply to me only or post on the LnB where you'll get 100s of people telling you what is going on. :)

Or you can IM me on AIM. My handle is Gericko.

Enjoy your day and don't freak out!

CDM Jerry

Adrik Jerse
Saturday December 29th, 2007 12:52:05 PM

DM Had not noticed the altered post either...sorry

Adrik is listening to Montgomery, of that much he is certain. his thoughts on what is being said are far more guarded. As Malgant extends the ring and his sympathies, Adrik takes it and studies it for a moment and then a few strides brings him to a small table. he sets the ring on a silver tray with a light clink. Adrik turns back with a darker brooding visage over some of the implications that Montgomery has made. Evil spirits, domination and deaths.

A scream from outside "ITZAL!" breaks the man from his thoughts. "Ah my sister is home and earlier than I expected. I believe it is time you took your leave. She will not be in a conversationary mood." Adrik turns and opens the door and a servant is standing there at the ready. "Show theese gentlemen through to the back gardens and then fetch Mr. Witherspoons horse and bring it to him."

The servant bows and gestures for you to follow. Adrik Jerse heads towards the front door, but with a last turn, "Conduct what investigation you will Mr. Witherspoon. I will be doing likewise. I would advise to guard the company you keep until you have first hand knowledge of these events. Pantheon will see us all earn ours Mr. Witherspoon. Good day."

Any (Second post)  d20+5=12

(Bardic Knowledge 12--not great)

"I was wondering the same thing friend Bralin/Harvest, or perhaps he is not doing what Pantheon would have him do. Whatever the case, he does not seem to be happy with Harvests mention of Pantheon. Let us hope that he chooses the path of good. For now, we still need to rest up to be at our peak. Shall we retire once more, and hope this time to be able to rest completely."

Any knows that he does not need the rest as badly as the others do, but he will go through the motions in order to encourage the others. Once they are asleep, he will go back downstairs and outside, continuing his work on his gear, and thinking about the things that have happened so far.

Montgomery
Monday December 31st, 2007 2:09:32 AM

The noble poofter bows his head in regret for the mother. Despite the things he has heard about her hard head and unwilling nature to hear the words of the Swords, in order to help her son, his regret is apparent.

" I take it, with your words, I have your blessing to conduct an investigation into this ugly situation involving your family. If that is the case, I thank you for allowing this to occur and the company I keep will be in regard to this unfortunate situation. From one noble to another, let's pray to the one who's face is unseen, that these matters are dealt with in fairness, without revenge." He gathers his accouterments and follows the servant to the back gate. Still wary of his surroundings, until in the open with a clear view. Inwardly, he is pleased by the oath Adrik has placed with the name of Pantheon and believes, when the truth is clear, those responsible will have to pay a penance. He hopes inwardly, those with which he has met will not be found at fault.

In the Wood
Monday December 31st, 2007 5:03:35 PM

The Fairie smiles sweetly at Arnimas and just the precense of this small being alone seems to lift his heart. "How my friend? Tis easy, my lord Eberyon created me thus and thus eternally I will remain. If you feel you must go then you must." The Fairie then drops and perches upon Darkfires snout, but the horse doesn't bat an eye at the sudden company.

"Might though I pass along something I have observed in other mortals. It seems to me that hearts grow darker when they part without words of intentions. Those that leave and those that are left. Death parts many and I see it often, though I would imagine any other parting to cleave one's heart as well. With that I take my leave and part form you." with a wink and smile the fairie vanishes and Arnimas hears its wings beat furiously as it lfts off of Darkfire and into the forest canopy.

Dulcet Manor
Monday December 31st, 2007 5:21:18 PM

Lynon is gone and does not return before Malgant and Montgomery make it back to Dulcet Manor. The sky is purple with the last rays of light as the two enter the house. A conversation about the Lance Corporal and the tattoo and his apparent uncomfortablness at the mention of Pantheon is the talk for some time, but aside from theory there is not much to hang one's hat on.

Dulcet remains out of sight the entire day and night. Soon enough it is morning and feeling much refreshed from the exhausted state of the past 24 hours the group is awoken by Bellowin and the smells of honey glazed Ham, eggs and fresh baked bread.

Arminas
Monday December 31st, 2007 5:44:40 PM

The fairy creature lifts Arminas' heart, and with renewed purpose he rides back to Dulcet's manor. Ewan flies high above, and seems to also be enjoying the last rays of light. Soon enough, they are at the stables and Arminas rubs down Darkfire and gives him an extra helping of grains for the night.

Almost skipping, he approaches the manor door and quickly swings it open. To any who are present, he announces:

"A beautiful day, is it not, regardless of the night previous. I think I shall take a proper rest, the morning will be much the better for it."

With that, Arminas retires to a room for a deep rest and even deeper thoughts. Upon smelling the breakfast, he heads to the dining room.

"Why that smells absolutely delicious Bellowin. You are too kind."

Arminas takes a healthy serving, and eats it between whistling a happy tune.

Harvest

In the first faint rays of morning, Harvest holds to Anthos as though clinging to a dream. Finally, though, she rises. Today they must make their way to Magpie Crossing. Wordlessly, she dresses for the day.

"I go to pray, Anthos," she says before closing the door behind her. Small and alone, Harvest Moon leaves and walks the road away from the inn.

Later, at breakfast, there is a redness about her eyes. Still, she smiles. "The day is beautiful, yes, Arminas Calaelen," she replies. The choicest bits of fruit and meat, she picks from her plate and feeds to Anthos.

Malgant
Tuesday January 1st, 2008 11:21:12 AM

Upon arriving back and Lady Dulcet's house Malgant is both physically and mentally exhausted. The time with little sleep and the restraint he needed to show at the Jerse home have tired him completely out. Had he not had the warm memories of the way he had been treated by the Swords of Light when first they met him he would not have been able to hold is tongue at the aspersions of Adrik Jerse. Once inside the home and having seen to it that all is well he removes his armor and finds his way to the bath. Unused to servants doing work for him he draws his own bath and cleans off the grime of the road. When finished he sees to his armor, though the magical plate requires little more than rubbing down. He then finds a quiet spot in which to sleep and is immediately asleep.
He rises in the morning to the smell of breakfast cooking. The taur realizes that he is quite hungry, having had little to eat yesterday. This can wait however, since morning time is the time to give thanks to Domi and prepare for the day ahead. Not bothering with his armor just yet Malgant carries his sword out behind the house and begins the prayer dance. As he flows through the moves of the prayer his mind clears and the past day comes into clearer focus. When he finishes he is wide awake and ready for the days travel, but one other thing needs to be done first. Going inside he dons his armor and feels the weight of duty settle once more onto his shoulders. Stepping into the kitchen he makes a sandwich of the bead, meat and eggs provided by Bellowin and thanks the man profusely for making them breakfast. Stuffing a few pieces of fruit into his pouch for later Malgant tells any others present he must See Sgt Hammer before they depart for Magpire Crossing and that he will be back by the time they are ready to depart. He moves up the road to where the Mailed Fist was staying when last he spoke to Sgt Hammer and knocks gently on the door. When he is able to speak to the Sergeant he informs him that Lord Adrik Jerse is at the Jerse homeplace. Since that is the person to whom they are currently contracted Malgant feels it necessary to inform them that he is in town. That task complete he returns to Lady Dulcet's home to depart with the Swords for Magpie Crossing.

Montgomery is a very busy person, it would appear. Once back at Dulcet Manor, he unpacks his animals and talks in loving tones to them as he wet's them down and brushes off the days travel.
His donkey, Matilda, carries quite a load. Boxes, tent poles and a canvas, likely a large tent. After a few hours of being sure his animals are safe, warm and nurtured, he tends to his own needs. He removes his shining armor and rubs it down with a fine oil. He does the same with his weapons and is sure to not spill any on his beautiful garments. It is well after sunset before he joins the others inside. He breaks out a bottle of sherry and a fine crystal glass, again, it seems to appear at the top of his pack. He offers the others a glass if they seem interested. He sits by the fire until it is time to retire, then excuses himself for some rest. He seems a quiet type in the evening, listening to the words of others as if studying their words for clues.

In the morning, bright and early, he is still a handsome enough chap without his powdered face and red hued lips. His hair, though, perfectly curly as it was the day before. He is sure to feed and water his animals before feeding himself. As with the day before his manners are refined elegant. He does not touch his food with his hands, but utilizes his utensils with skill. He chews each bite thirty times before swallowing. Each bite is washed down with the juice Bellowin provides them. His hands in his lap if not preparing for himself another bite.

He asks the group about a church to Pantheon, if one is in the region and why they have not sought them out. "Surely, there must be someone with such authority nearby we could ask for assistance?"

Before they leave, he carefully packs Matilda and prepares Baxter with the side saddle and packs, then gives them each a treat as is his habit.

Any
Tuesday January 1st, 2008 6:14:34 PM

Any returns to the room he shares with Harvest
in time to be there for her awakening. Due as much to his care, as to his magic, his clothing now looks almost brand new, and his gear is all oiled and shining. He accepts the bites of food that Harvest offers, and makes sure that she gets her share as well. He can tell that there is much on her mind, and intuition tells him she is feeling the need to follow her path as a Walker.

How can I help her?

With a nod to himself, he turns to her. He steps to her, and with a huge embrace, leads Harvest outside.

"My Love, and I do love you, I have felt that our paths had been intertwined by fate, and I did not want them to ever part. But, I have felt your need to follow your own path as well. If you must be a Walker, then be one. My life will not even be close to over, barring death in battle, for many years. Who knows, as you walk, our paths may cross again. Elves do not think of relationships such as we have had in the same way that humans do. If and when you are ready again, I will be here--somewhere. Years will not dim my feelings, and you will always be a song in my memory--one that will never be forgotten. Your face has more power in my mind than any spell I know. I love you enough to understand your need, and to want you to follow your path, wherever it leads."

He holds her to him, and then backs off one step.

"What is your true desire here?"

Harvest (2nd Post)
Tuesday January 1st, 2008 7:28:02 PM

"Is this what it is, Anthos?" Harvest Moon raises a sleeve to her dab the corner of her eye. "Is this what it is to grow up? To be able to leave the ones that you love and yet still hold them within your heart?"

"When my mother died ... " Harvest Moon visits a place far away and down within the depths of her own eyes. " ... and when Pasix said that I must leave or never come into myself at all ... when I first left, I wandered for a very long time. Having left everything I had ever known, I did not know anything of where I was. That is what I think it is to be lost. I wandered, not knowing, for so very long."

"Now, I think, I know where I am. And, I think, that even then, at that time, I had had them with me. My mother's wordless love. Pasix and his wisdom. Now, my love, I hear you say that I may leave and that we will carry each other within our hearts. I cannot say that this is wrong. But why is it then that the thought of being away from you rends so at my heart?"

Tears breach their levee and cascade down the plane of her face.

"It hurts so terribly, Anthos. So much more than swords and harmful magics. How is it that something can hurt so much?"

"But we must go," she sniffs. "We must leave for Magpie Crossing." Harvest Moon turns for the stables. Her foot catches. She stumbles. Then she turns back, throwing herself into his arms. She hugs him fiercely, sobbing into his chest and then breaks away. The tiny spots of her tears follow Harvest Moon as she runs, swift as the wind, in the direction of the stables.

Lorth
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 7:25:54 AM

Lorth wakes and joins his friends for breakfast. He is in a good mood and well rested after the nights sleep. After breakfast he gets his gear and readies himself for the days journey, leaving when his friends are ready.

To Magpie
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 4:20:59 PM

Montgomery discovers his animal in the stables, brushed down and cared for with an obviously professional touch. His things, he soon discovers were unpacked from Matilda and relocated to a roonm in the manor house. The morning is similar, Montgomery arrives at the stables to find Matilda and Baxter munching happily on fresh grains. As to authority, why yes. The group is currently standing in the house of the foremost authority figure of Jarlswolf. Madame Dulcet. Who of course is a cat at the moment. The Swords of Light carry transcripts allowing them to act on behalf of the Council of Cinnamon Valley. Perhaps making the group itself the next leading element of the authoritative arm of Jarlswolf. As to Pantheon, no structure in Jarlswolf is dedicated to the god, nor any in the whole valley that the group knows of. Though the Lance Corporal and Adrik Jerse both have some hard connections to the god it would seem.

Malgant enteres the kitchen the following morning to find Bellowin shooing him out. "I will not have guests of madame toiling under my keep for food. Your seat is in the Formal dining hall mr. Malgant and I would hope to find you in it." Malgant finds Sgt Hammer gone as well as the Specialist. The family reports there was quite the yelling match between the Sgt and another man early in the afternoon yesterday. Complete with threats of insibordination and even sadition against the Mailed Fist. Peter's father reports a very pale looking Sgt Hammer left just after. "A man torn between duties I would say." None in the house were able to speak to either soldiers before Lynon ordered them out. No word on destination, but they took the road towards Magpie at top speed.

The group is soon through all early morning routines and far more rested than most can recall, after sleeping in very elegant rooms. Goodbye's are given to Bellowin, who holds a beautiful long haired white cat, and the road to Magpie is taken. With luck the group would arrive in Magpie Crossing in less than a week.

OOC if somone knows the time between from past journies let me know. I am estimating from the map and journey time from Rowena to Jarlswolf

Bralin
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 4:49:35 PM

Bralin arises the next morning fully rested. After morning prayers to the gods, and enclosing himself in his platemail, the dwarf clomps downstairs into the dining room.

As is his want, he falls upon the food with gusto. Fifteen or twenty minutes later, Bralin looks up beyond plate and mug, pushes himself back from table, and belches loudly in appreciation of the meal.

With that, its off for Magpie Crossing.

The black armored dwarf clangs up into the saddle astride Mica, and waits for his comrades to move off. Bralin assumes his customary position as rear guard.

"'Ware," he advises. "Hammer is a good man. If he opposes his Fist's orders, mayhap those orders are against us."

Arminas  d20+19=36
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 6:17:42 PM

Arminas swings upon Darkfire and whistles for Ewan. Preening Ewan, Arminas conveys the message with his link with his friend.

Fly high, watch the road ahead.

With that, Ewan takes off in a great beating of wings. Darkfire skitters a bit, but is accustomed to the bird by now.

Speaking to Bralin, Arminas says:

"I will take lead on the way. Magpie crossing is on my way home. I will leave soon to wander the Culverwood again. The Woldian League of Adventures asked me to guide you to Stormwind Castle. I have done that and much more, my oath is fulfilled."

He coaxes Darkfire forward and keeps a sharp eye on the road ahead.

Malgant
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 8:10:59 PM

Malgant takes up a position somewhere in the middle of the riders. He will be the pace setter for the group since he does not ride. At Bralins words about Sergeant Hammer Malgant's brow furrows. " Is not a Lance Corporal inferior to a Sergeant? Why then does Lance Corporal Lymon presume to be giving the orders to the Mailed fist contingent? This is most curious I think. They have their contract and from what Hammer said it was to provide security in the area. Their contract holder had not made himself present on the scene when literally all hell broke loose and the Sergeant acted within his conscience and within his contract. If Corporal Lymon wishes to bring charges against Hammer I think he will have a hard time proving anything while I still breathe. As to Magpie Crossing, do we have the names of the representatives we are to meet and do we know what we are supposed to be telling them when we arrive? Also do we have any more information on how to put Medonius to rest for good since we parted yesterday?"

Harvest  d20+14=23
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 9:13:55 PM

Fyrda clops along the road. The sound of hooves. The feel of muscle and bone pushing one over the ground. The wind in one's mane. In what other way could a horse feel like a horse? No matter the pace. A horses pace is her own. Darkfire be damned.

Fyrda feels her own pace slow upon the road. She swings her head to one side in order to look back over her shoulder. The little Two-Legs, she is wrapped within her own fog. She does not feel the wind today.

Harvest Moon lifts her head to return the look in the large gentle eye. She reaches out to pat Fyrda upon the neck.

"You are leaving, Arminas Calaelen?" Too? Her eyes rise no further. She continues to gently stroke Fyrda's neck. The giant plow horse once again begins moving toward distant Magpie Crossing. "You are leaving."

Arminas
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 9:47:50 PM

Arminas turns at the sound of a sad distant voice. It was hard to tell at first, but it was Harvest who spoke. His own enthusiasm is mirrored in Darkfire's steps as the swing back to speak with the forlorn looking monk.

With a bright look in his eye and a smile playing across his lips, Arminas speaks to Harvest.

"Yes, the Culverwood calls to me. I spoke to a fairy named Blossom yesterday in the woods, and it all came clear. I have let the betrayal's of the recent past plant a seed of bitterness in my heart. I must return to the Woods and cleanse my soul. I am afraid I was becoming what I hated."

With a smile and look of concern, he looks deeply at Harvest.

"Perhaps you should come with me. Though there will be no comforts to where I go, I will eat only what the Woods provide and sleep among them as the animals do."

Then it becomes clear, in his eagerness to return to the Woods he has missed something important.

"What is wrong Harvest, I have never seen you like this."

Harvest (2nd Post)
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 10:43:49 PM

"It is such a plain and simple thing, Arminas Calaelen," she replies, voice heavy with sorrow, "that I should have realized it long ago. That if one wishes to Walk the ways of the Wold, as one makes one's way to a place, one must also necessarily leave another place behind."

"And how can one leave behind a thing that one loves, Arminas Calaelen? How can one bear to be parted with something so precious as love? And yet, how can one move forward," asks Harvest Moon, "if one does not leave it behind?"

Arminas - 3rd post
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 11:14:04 PM

Arminas nods at Harvest's words.

"Now I see the truth. You are leaving your love Anthos behind. I have already left my love behind, and now I return to her. Do not let my joy upset you, for I know the grief that you feel in your heart."

Any
Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 11:31:56 PM

Any rides Moonshadow, his lady love at his side, their legs brushing occasionally as the horses position themselves on the road. He listens as Arminas and Harvest talk, then speaks,

"One never truly leaves love behind, it always travels with us. It is the thought of no longer being near that which we love that causes so much pain. Take heart in knowing that love does not extinguish itself simply due to separation from that which we love. We keep a portion of that love, like an ember, within us, and it can be brought out to warm our souls whenever we wish.

Friend Arminas, we will miss you, especially on the trail and in the woods, but our paths will cross again, of this I am sure. Harvest too has felt the call to seek her own path. For now though, before we actually part, let us enjoy the sunshine of the road, and the company of good friends."

Lorth
Thursday January 3rd, 2008 8:01:26 AM

Lorth rides in silence listening to his friends conversations. Harvest and Arminas are planning to leave and he is sad to hear of it. It will be hard to find such friends again, they may have not always seen eye to eye, but they were always there to watch his back and make sure he lived to see another day...

DM note: FYI to all as some players might not have been around

Caerthon, Paladin of the Watchful Eye is the Representative of Magpie Crossing. At the beginning of this module the group was present when he was placed upon the council. He was also a star in the previous module and several battles against the Dread.

Any's thoughts drift to the day that he first met this group. He was just a performer with a little skill in magic, and a little more with the sword. How far they have come since then. And yet, they have only passed less than a year since they first met. It is amazing to the bard how deep his feelings for these few have grown in so short a time.

And then there is Harvest. He glances at her as he rides along. He had never thought when he first met the feisty little monk how his feelings could have grown so quickly for her. And now she is leaving...

He begins to hum under his breath, but otherwise continues to ride towards
Magpie Crossing.

Malgant
Thursday January 3rd, 2008 7:24:29 PM

Malgant does not know how to feel hearing that some of the group will be taking their leave. He hopes that they can help see through the problem of Medonius. He feels sadness because they have accepted him as he is and not asked questions about his banishment, questions that would hurt him by dredging up memories he would sooner not speak about. He rolls the sadness over in his mind. It is different from the sadness he felt when his other friends were killed in the battle that got him banished. Those friends were dead and gone. These friends were leaving to follow other paths, complete tasks they needed to complete, as he needed to become a hero of his people in order to satisfy the terms of his banishment. It was a different sadness for they may well be reunited one day. He shakes his head to push the sadness away and lengthens his stride to take the lead. Arminas has moved back in the line to talk to the others and someone needs to keep an eye open in his stead. Let them talk about the sadness they felt, it seemed to help them.

Florin Jadenth  d20+3=12 d20+3=15
Thursday January 3rd, 2008 7:51:48 PM

(OOC:Sorry everyone, I planned to post yesterday but fell under the weather. Hope everyone had a great New Year and Christmas.)

(Dan:I was wondering if you got my email concerning Christmas items. I also didn't look at all the posts but I'm taking for granted that Florin is with the group, if not then please let me know and I'll edit my post.)

Florin moves along with the others. He has been very quiet of late, specially since he like the others feels that a change is coming and for some reason he doesn't think the change is going to be all good either. As he moves along he tries to keep his eyes open for anything but can't help but scan the group also as he thinks over those he has been traveling with for awhile now.

(Listen:12 Spot:15)

I did not see an email on Christmas items. But knowing what is generally handed out, consider anything gained to be with you. and yes everyone rode for Magpie is the DM assumption

Montgomery
Thursday January 3rd, 2008 8:04:19 PM

At a loss for words, but to encourage the group, Montgomery allows them to leave without him.

"It would appear from your paperwork, you have all the authoirty needed to conduct your own investigation. So with that, I will continue my travels to assist those whom do not have the privalidge of such. May I say, it was a pleasure to meet you all, and if we ever cross paths again, I do hope those terms will be in service to Pantheon. May his bright face allow you to see all untruth's as they are. Farewell.

With that, he turns his horse to the west and continues on his path to enforce justice.

ooc-Sorry all, life calls for awhile, I guess it could not have happened at a more opportune time. I hope to see you all soon and farewell for awhile.-Buzz

Lorth
Friday January 4th, 2008 7:55:37 AM

"Goodbye Montgomery", Lorth says, "It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Be safe wherever you travel." He then continues to ride alongside his friends. Soon they will be in Magpie crossing.

Near Magpie Crossing
Friday January 4th, 2008 1:55:45 PM

The group travels towards Magpie, Montgomery wishing them well, turns west towards Witchspawn. Perhaps he will head north from there to Effacia, or continue west towards Rowena. The group travels mostly in silence. Some bit of conversation amongst themselves. A parting or splitting is looking inevitable. The road is fair enough as is the weather and soon several days have past and Magpie lies just a few more hours and around a final bend.

Malgant
Friday January 4th, 2008 4:35:02 PM

" Soon we should make Magpie Crossing. Do we have a plan for once we arrive? This errand takes us away from the task of finding a way to put Medonius to rest for good. I would prefer it over soon so that we can begin researching the information we need to see that through, Unless this member of the Council has some special knowledge of Medonius. Do we know if he has such information?"

Harvest
Friday January 4th, 2008 5:19:05 PM

For a very long time, Harvest Moon had watched the road down which Montgomery Witherspoon the Third had departed. Finally, after a period of time within which he must truly might be considered gone, she had turned back to the road ahead. Holding her hand out from Fyrda's back, she reached to hold Anthos' hand for the remainder of the short journey to Magpie Crossing.

"The Shadfly Inn is a good place to stay, Protector Malgant," she replies. "Hildy and Lincoln were very good to me when I first came to this village. They also make very delicious pies."

"I am not certain, though, whether or not they will have rooms for a person as large as you. They are halflings, and even humans are large for them."

"Perhaps, though, we may have to go further on to Stormwind Castle."

Any
Friday January 4th, 2008 6:53:48 PM

Stormwind Castle. How long ago it seems when he was entertaining for the people there.
Roads have a way of twisting back on themselves, untill you find yourself right back where you started.

"Friends, it's a beautiful day for a ride. I almost hate it to end. But I believe Magpie Crossing is just over the hill, and I am looking forward to pie."

He sings a short rhyme for the trail.

"Good friends, good food are all I seek,
A roof and bed to ease my feet,
Hot water for bathing, cold ale for the throat,
And a pillow for each ones seat."

With a laugh he shakes back his hair, and breathes in deeply of the scents of the countryside.

Florin Jadenth

Florin looks to the others as they continue riding and hearing the comments made he nods abit, "I agree with you Malgant. Patience sometimes isn't want of my better virtues." Florin smiles some, he is going to be happy to send the ghost to it's final resting place.

Arminas
Saturday January 5th, 2008 11:18:46 AM

Arminas rides along, enjoying the clear air and time spent with his companions. As they pass the road to Merrydale, he pauses as looks down the road.

"I will be going back there soon, but for now I will accompany you to Magpie Crossing."

Malgant and Florin comment on destroying Medonius, and Arminas reminds them:

"I believe Madam Dulcet, or the cat that she is now, told us that Medonius is likely banished for 50 years. While that is a short time to myself and likely Bralin, many of you will die of old age before he comes back again. Unless you seek to summon him, but you have been warned your strength is not great enough yet. I do not understand what you hope to do now."

They near Magpie Crossing, and he adds:

"Caerthon was who I was asked to find by the Woldian Adventure League, when first I joined this group. We will speak to him, as he is on the Pitchfork council. That will bring my service full circle, and will likely end it as well."

Harvest (2nd Post)
Saturday January 5th, 2008 1:33:08 PM

"Hildy or Lincoln may know of where Paladin Caerthon might be, Arminas Calaelen. Or, they may know who the other member of the Pitchfork Council is who lives in this area."
