The Way Ahead (DM Cayzle) Saturday December 29th, 2007 1:45:16 AM
To recap, you are all standing in the Realm of Shadows. The air is hard to see through, like foggy, but dark instead of white. Xenia can hide in plain sight here easily.
You are on a slight incline, facing uphill. The hill is covered with grey blades of stiff grass. There are no signs of life, other than the viscous burbling of the steams of Woldsblood runing downhill.
There is a woven totem on a stake int he ground before you, a boundry marker, or maybe a sigul of taboo or quarantine. Gimp will not pass it. He has told you that your job is, first, to go beyond, scout it out, and return when you know what is going on. Then your quest will be fulfilled when you go back and do something about it.
Belkior realizes that the totem is not the barrier, but is a non-magical marker that beyond lies danger to Gargul's minions.
Xenia and Wynn take a look at the marker too. But it is beyond their experiences.
Gimp has offered you Gargul's Blessing, which will allow you to apply your XP and go up a level. The Augury suggests that accepting the blessing would be fine.
CDM Jerry: OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Saturday December 29th, 2007 11:58:30 AM
Greetings Woldians,
I hope you've been keeping up with the changes we've been discussing on the LnB. If not, you have a novel to read amongst all the posts.
Basically, we're doing the following things:
--purging all 2nd characters from everyone except DMs...that's their reward for being a DM. --We're adding a new type game: Challenge Games. It is a 2 year campaign game. We're calling our normal games Career Games.
Anyway, because of the Challenge Games, which will begin ASAP for their first 2 year run, as well as the pruning of the 2nd characters, we'll be holding a vote starting
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2ND
...and ENDING on
MONDAY, JANUARY 7TH
We'll be voting on one thing only:
Do you want to play in a Challenge Game or a Career Game?
If you choose Career Game, I"ll want a second piece of information. I will need to know if you want to remain in your current game or move to another.
That's it.
Voting is NOT accepted until January 2nd and all votes will be emailed to me here at gericko@gmail.com. I will not accept votes that are made on the LnB, though you may post your vote there if you want.
If you don't vote, then the ACDMs and I will be PLACING you into a Challenge game by default as that is the "new thing" and we're kinda pushing it as a new option.
Let me repeat that and reword it:
If you don't vote you lose your right to choose your game and WILL be placed. Yeah I know that is hard, but we're moving forward and don't want to have votes trickling in weeks later.
This email is just to get your attention in case you haven't been following the information overload on the LnB.
If you have a question about all this or are now totally confused, reply to me only or post on the LnB where you'll get 100s of people telling you what is going on. :)
"'S alright? Right?" Xenia turns from the Knot-On-A-Stick to the two priests of the group. "I mean, taking Gargul's Blessing. Right?"
Xenia listens. 'Cause if you can't trust the folks you're with to know what's what, you're doomed to be with no one.
"Alright, I'm for up the hill," she announces when the Blessing stuff is done. "You wanna put some magic on me to keep track, do it now, 'kay? A'cause I don't wanna be here any longer than we have to. Lets do this and be gone. I'll be back as quick as possible with a report."
The slim rogue gives Wynn a kiss, 'cause you never know when this one might be your last. Lots to remind a body of this lately. Death and stuff. Never know when it might be your last. Then, once the spelling up is done, she slips into shadows and starts up the hill. (Hide 47, Move Silently 23, Spot 34, Listen 19)
Sound is weird in this Ghost World. So much here that the dark girl is unused to that she can't hear the whisper of her own feet in the grass. But her sight is keen, and the shadows are kind. They hide her, cloak her, enfolding her in their concealing embrace as she makes her way up the hill.
Test the Attendance Proc.
Wynn Saturday December 29th, 2007 6:05:18 PM
The bard accepts Gargul's blessing and then turns to question Gimp. "How will we recognize something that is out of the ordinary here? Everything is out of the ordinary."
When Xenia turns to leave he returns her kiss. "Be safe!" he whispers as she leaves.

Angus Monday December 31st, 2007 10:12:38 AM
Angus will also accept the blessing of Gargul. "Lets be careful out here people. I do not like this."
Angus looks over at Gimp "What does Gargul's blessing entail?
Just to reiterate:
Angus cast message on the entire group and before Xenia dissapears he adds "Try to maintain contact with me every minute as I do not like it here."
Angus also cast mage armor on himself.
"Lets move forward people. Belkior you are with me. Xenia in front with Lang and Syr trailing. Wynn and Bin can flank Belkior an I. Let have our group of four stay a good 30 feet back from Syr and Lang. Stay sharp people."

Recap and Questions:
1) Range of Message spell is 210 ft. Right? 2) Air is hard to see through, like foggy, but dark instead of white. What's the estimated range of visibility? 3) We're on a slight incline, facing uphill. The hill is covered with grey blades of stiff grass. Can I assume that the ground is an open plane with no cover? How tall is the grass? Usable for cover?
DM Cayzle OOC Monday December 31st, 2007 11:59:43 AM
Friends, note that Lang is going to retire, which kind of makes this mini-adventure moot. You guys want to press on anyway, or give it up and head for home?
Buzz-ooc Monday December 31st, 2007 12:01:43 PM
4) Is the terrian considered difficult? 5) Can we "charge" if we need to, to catch up with Xenia? 6) Do we automatically get the spell increase, or do we need to wait till tomorrow morning to have the new spell allotted?
Bin Monday December 31st, 2007 12:05:10 PM
The protector waits. Anticipating the forth coming battle. He wonders what it could be in the realm of an immortal, that he would need the aid of us.
Buzz-ooc Monday December 31st, 2007 1:20:14 PM
Hmm- If he's retiring, does that mean he is still alive? If so, then we still have a debt to pay to Gargul. If he's staying dead, it is moot.
Al - OoC Monday December 31st, 2007 6:40:07 PM
Will going through the mini-adventure get us more XP? Will going through the mini-adventure put some closure on Lang's (and Bin's for that matter) departure?
If the answer to either of those is Yes, then I say we go with it.
Belkior Monday December 31st, 2007 11:08:31 PM
The halfling cleric nods towards the Imp before turning to his companions. Belkior looks for the hovering form of Lang before speaking.
"I'll accept the blessing of Gargul. If it will benefit us when we face what lies ahead. Even though it seems that Lang may not welcome our assistance, I say that we do this. If only to set things right here in the Shadowlands."
Wynn Tuesday January 1st, 2008 4:08:39 PM
The bard takes his position on the flank and heads up the hill following Xenia. Lang's reluctance to follow saddens the bard, for he joined up with the Shields at the same time, and he feels at least partly responsible for his friends death.

[OOC: Answers
1) Range of Message spell is 210 ft. Right? Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) 2) Air is hard to see through, like foggy, but dark instead of white. What's the estimated range of visibility? Anywhere from 100 to 200 feet. 3) We're on a slight incline, facing uphill. The hill is covered with grey blades of stiff grass. Can I assume that the ground is an open plane with no cover? How tall is the grass? Usable for cover? Grass grows shortish. Not enough for cover. 4) Is the terrian considered difficult? nope. 5) Can we "charge" if we need to, to catch up with Xenia? Charging is just a double move that ends in an attack. You can hustle or run in this terrain. 6) Do we automatically get the spell increase, or do we need to wait till tomorrow morning to have the new spell allotted? It's all yours, Baby! Add these new spells now, thank Gargul. ]
Gimp says a quick, irreverent prayer: "Bless this mess oh lord of heck! I confess, they seem a wreck!"
Odd for a prayer or blessing, but it works, You feel the divine blessing take hold, strengthening you. [OOC: You level up.]
Xenia starts up the hill. As she goes, she notices something strange: The grass she is looking at -- could it be faintly green?
Xenia Tuesday January 1st, 2008 8:49:50 PM "Angus, I think we're getting color back in this place." Though there's no visible sign of the rogue's passage, her voice comes clear down the message spell.
"That might mean we can use our magic bags once we reach the place where all this stuff is that's troubling Gargul."
"I know you can't see me, but I'll try and keep a good two hundred feet or so in front of you. That way, if I see something, good chance that whatever I see won't be seeing you. I'll call out 'Stop' if I catch a glimpse."

Xenia Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 9:44:04 PM
The girl rogue counts paces off in her head as she makes her way quietly up the hill through the shadows.
The Light In The Shadows (DM Cayzle) Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 11:31:00 PM
Following Xenia, you proceed forward. You walk maybe a quarter of a mile, and you find that the shadows recede. You are in a gentle valley, the grass is green, and there are even a few trees here and there. Fruit trees, looks like. You hear a bird singing. There are some fields in the distance, and you can just make out a few workers in them. Some simple stone buildings stand in a group ahead.
Wynn Thursday January 3rd, 2008 7:31:34 AM
The bard feels relief as they exit the shadows. The valley they have come to appears peaceful enough, hard to imagine this posing a threat to Gargul and his way...
Xenia d20+29=39 d20+19=20 d20+22=32 d20+17=19 Thursday January 3rd, 2008 9:35:03 AM
"This is a warning to you, Guys." The rogue sends the message back through Angus' magic. "Things lightening up like this, they can probs see you better. We're gonna have to split further apart. Don't look too dangerous down there. But why don't you wait here? Let me get a good close in look before we get everybody in the main down in there, huh?"
"I'm gonna go in quiet and hidden. If I don't come back in [ insert reasonable amount of time here based on estimate of distance ] come get me, huh?"

He turns back to the plane of shadow and attempts to retrace his steps, to help those that arrive here prematurly.

Lang Thursday January 3rd, 2008 8:39:55 PM
Lang watches as Bin says his good byes. He barely got to know the man, but will miss him.
Lang sees color returning to the area they are in. Certainly doesn't look like the land of the dead.
Syr d20+5=14 Thursday January 3rd, 2008 8:42:52 PM
The elf stares dumbfounded at Bin's back. "Geezzzzz, not even a hug? Maybe he wasn't really tricking the dragon by betraying us? Bin is certainly full of inconsistencies."
"Hey Angus, how about screening these new recruits better? The first rule we should make is to not allow anyone to join if we have seen them without clothes? Just too many barriers are broken once you see someone in their birthday suit."
Looking around and not seeing Xenia, he catches up to Lang quickly. (Hide 20, forgot a modifier)
OOC: Figured it was an ADM responsibility to report: Checking Lynn's Cafe, everyone has voted to stay in this game (except Bin) That leaves us with 6 players. Anyone thought about recruiting specific players from a collapsing game?
Belkior Thursday January 3rd, 2008 9:09:00 PM
The halfling cleric continues to walk alongside Angus. Even though Xenia has suggested that they try to be more ... discreet ... Belkior can't help but show that he is a devout follower of Alemi. Hoperfully, his aura will draw attention away from the red-haired rogue sneaking ahead of the party.
A Farewell (DM Cayzle) Friday January 4th, 2008 2:16:31 PM
And as fast as a wink, Bin is inspired to take another path. He sets off, and soon is lost in the shadows.
The rest say good by and then look again into the greensward. Xenia cannot fail to note that there are in fact NO shadows at all -- not even a one. She cannot use her Hide in Plain Sight skill, and there is nothing to hide behind. If she is to go forward, how will she make her hide checks?
But Wynn feels that there may be no reason to hide. He feels comforted and welcome here. In fact, so do any who stop to think about it.
But don't get confused -- this is clearly NOT the Wold that you know. The sky overhead is still black and starless. There are still rivulets of Woldsblood here and there -- thin ones that can be easily stepped over or hopped across, but still there. No, this is not the Wold.
If you advance, you will be visible to any in the house ahead, or to workers in the field. Unless hid by magic, like invisibility. What do you do?
Angus Friday January 4th, 2008 3:00:18 PM
Angus waves farewell to BIn as he dissappears into the shadows.
Angus will message to Lang and Syr up ahead. "Go collect Xenia as it does not appear that scouting will work in this land, at least not right now. The rest of us will move to catch up."
Once everyone is within message range Angus will broadcast "We are down to six and stealth is not our friend currently. Lets tighten ranks a bit. Lang and Syr up front, Xenia and Wynn on the flanks and Belkior and me at the center. Everyone please stay in message and sight range."
Belkior Friday January 4th, 2008 10:14:25 PM
The halfling cleric toddles along beside Angus. There seems to be nothing for it except to walk boldly up to the house ahead.
Lang d8=8 Saturday January 5th, 2008 8:27:05 AM
Lang is still getting used to his old human body. No more hair to scratch, but the rippling muscules underneath are also absent.
After contacting Xenia and then moving back to confer with Angus Lang takes point 40 feet in front of Angus and Belkior. "You gonna keep up Syr. I can always slow down for you." He chids the elf.
Lang takes out his bow as it appear he will see any threat comming from a long way off.

Syr Saturday January 5th, 2008 9:49:19 AM
Grinning at the ranger speeding ahead he shoots back, "See what happens, you drop a few pounds and it all goes to your head."
Once they catch up to Xenia, "Hey red, wanna take the right and put Wynn on the left?"
As they approach the house, Syr looks for any people and will wave friendly once they notice the group approaching.
Xenia Saturday January 5th, 2008 12:51:05 PM
A ghost outline clinging to the faintest of shadows, the rogue puts her hands on her hips and frowns at the really weerdo light in Bizarro Valley.
"Um. Yeah. Alright," she replies to the voices, first Lang then Syr, that come from behind. The shadows fall away as she releases them from service. Red hair, green eyes, dark skin, the details come into sharp relief as the shadows flow away like water.
"Take the right ... " her voice is distant, distracted as she waits for the others to catch up. "'Kay. Take the right."
Bizarro Valley. Peaceful and weird. Weird and peaceful. Xenia finds her mind wandering. There's, like, danger here. Right? They're, like, gonna have to fight for Lang's soul here. Right? But, for some reason, all that seems lost and wandering in the fog. Instead, the girl rogue finds herself thinking about her friend Mira and the Plateau City group, wondering how they're doing, thinking about how it might be to just see friends again, to just walk to the store and buy fresh rolls, to just do normal stuff, how would that be after doing the stuff they've done, after seeing the stuff they've seen, after being to all the strange and bizarro places that they've been?
Welcome to the Valley of Mercy (DM Cayzle) Saturday January 5th, 2008 2:52:30 PM
You form up and advance, moving down into the valley. When you are about 150 feet from the buildings, someone emerges from the biggest one. She is a human, or maybe a half-human. She is riding in an animated metal vat with four legs. She is deformed, hunched over, missing an eye, and there is only a vacant pit where her nose used to be.
But as she rides her metal pot closer to you, she smiles sweetly -- and her voice is warm and friendly.
"Welcome friends and goodpeople, to the Valley of Mercy! Whether you come here by chance or intent, be glad! Here we have good food, shelter, and healing if you need it. Be not afraid, but be welcome indeed."
"Call me Zerk while you are here, and please give me your names, or such titles as you would use."
She ends this speech about 30 feet from you. You notice, by the way, the smell of green growing things and composting leaves -- smells always present in the Wold, and missing in the Realm of Shadows. But you are still in the Realm of Shadows, you know.
Belkior d20+15=33 Saturday January 5th, 2008 10:44:26 PM
The halfling cleric tries to recall what he can of the Realm of Shadows from his days in the seminary. There must be something ... and some reason that Gargul wants them to spy this place out. And, Belkior thinks, perhaps he can keep this being's attention while the others learn more. Knowledge Religion = 33
"I am Belkior Orvisson, Healer and Paragon of Alemi. Who are you, Zerk, and is this valley your place?"
Wynn d20+12=30 Saturday January 5th, 2008 11:08:47 PM
"Wynn Brightsong is my name". The bard has seen all this before, back in Jarlwolf in the Cinnamon Valley where covens of witches held great sway. Many were missing body parts, severed for use in their magical brews. [Bardic Knowledge=30]. "Are you the leader of your coven? What is your purpose, here in this valley?"
Syr Sunday January 6th, 2008 1:29:27 PM
As the woman approaches, the monk, so accustomed to seeking perfection of the body is horrified to see the mutilations she is displaying. Remembering for a moment that her body may not have been her choice, he keeps a straight face. "Syrdeth the humble follower of Domi," he continues on remarking, "Your oasis in this realm of darkness is an unexpected delight".
Finally, he shifts his position to stand directly between Angus and the metal vat.
Xenia d20+22=30 d20+17=37 Sunday January 6th, 2008 2:55:46 PM
Um ... like, bizarro much.
The rogue eyes with trepidation the patchwork woman riding in a four legged tub.
"Hi, Zerk." She gives her signature hand wave. "I'm Xenia."
'Coven', huh? The slight rise of the rogue's copper colored eyebrow marks the only outward acknowledgement that her guy is onto something.
"Nice place you got here." Her practiced eye runs over the trees and stone buildings. Her ears probe the still air. (Spot 30, Listen 37/Nat 20) "I mean, for the land of the dead and all that is. Hope we didn't run everyone off. Showing up all of a sudden." (Looking and listening for the others we saw from further away, in addition to anything that might be out of the ordinary for a typical farm. Aside from Zerk and her Tub of Many Legs, that is.)

Lang Sunday January 6th, 2008 4:22:28 PM
Lang is getting used to being shorter as he could see farther when he was over a foot taller. Lang also that to take a moment to realize that his deep intakes of breath only bring in air and not the definition of smell from his Bugbear nose. Much gained but much is also lost.
The ranger keeps his bow out and goes to stand shoulder to shoulder with Syr.
"I am Lang." and he steals a quick glance at Syr and whispers "Whats a coven?"

The Witches' Mission (DM Cayzle) d20=17 [Unmodified Diplomacy Check] Monday January 7th, 2008 10:12:43 AM
The witch -- for such she obviously is -- listens politely to introductions and questions, answering each in turn.
Zerk nods at Wynn. "You know much, friend Wynn Brightsong. Does your name reveal your family or your profession, if I may ask? For songs, especially those sung brightly, are most welcome here."
"Yes, I am a witch, Goodwitch Zerkalore, head of the Coven of the Last Resort. This valley is my place, mine and those who follow me here in our mission of mercy."
Belkior remembers, on reflection, that witches are known enemies of Gargul (aside from those few witches allied with him). Gargul views their acts as intrusions on his domain. That may well be the case here.
Zerk answers Syr with a smile and a bow. "Thank you, Syrdeth. All followers of Domi are welcome here, whether to seek refreshment from good works or as defenders, of which we always are in need."
She holds out her hand in welcome to Belkior. "A Paragon!" she exclaims. "We are indeed blessed! Welcome! Welcome!"
The goodwitch looks like she is holding in some laughter at Xenia's plain but friendly words (a strange look on her noseless face). "Oh, do not worry about alarming us, good Xenia! Had you harbored ill intent in your hearts, our wards would have warned us. We are glad to welcome such as yourself here to our home."
She frowns slightly when Angus speaks. "Angus of Floating City, please do not take offense. But we are here deep in the Realm of Shadows. You have not left the Shadowlands at all. This refuge is one that we have established here. We do have a portal that we can open and close, if you need to return to the Wold."
Finally, she looks around at you all. "You are curious, I see, about our mission here. We are on a mission of love. We are followers of Flower, the god of True Love, and we seek to offer solace to those who grieve. We cannot defy Gargul so much as to bring the dead back to life, but we allow those who have passed death's door to speak with their loved ones. We call the souls of the departed back from the lands of Haven Far, so that they may speak one last time with their family and friends. This is our mission of mercy."
"Now please, come and refresh yourself. We have pure water and good food." She motions, beckoning you to follow her to the stone buildings. "And you can tell me the tale of how you have come to our Valley of Mercy."
Angus Monday January 7th, 2008 2:55:06 PM
Angus is a bit taken aback by the friendliness of the ruin faced Zerk and think to himself, am I really that shallow, maybe, when it comes to women.
Angus get s grip on himself and looks down at Belkior "Do you sense any evil intent. I am unfamiliar with much of what those that follow Flower are all about, let alone their witches."
Angus looks back at Zerk "This is a very strange place. How do you maintain it in the relm of shadows? Do people pay you a fee for you to open the portal and let them speak with their loved ones one last time? This would be a great gift to some."
Angus waits for an answer and then continues "How does Gargul view your mission of mercy? We are returning from a meeting in the shadowlands in an effort to have a loved one broght back to us. I have never heard of your cult. You may need to sdvertize more as I may have used your services in the past."

Lang Monday January 7th, 2008 3:00:41 PM
Lang keeps himself next to Syr and between Zerk and Angus/Belkior and he absentmindedly strums his bow.
Lang is keeping a close watch out for those that did not approach but keeps quite which is his way.
Lang passes the time attempting to calculate distances to those in the fields and to the buildings.
Xenia d20+2=13 Monday January 7th, 2008 3:25:23 PM
"Flower's 'bout Love, Angus. Everybody knows that." (Knowledge Religion 13 Untrained) "I went and visited ... " gazing off at the fields in search of the other Covenies, Covenites, Covenians ... they saw from afar, Xenia prattles on, and then stops. Her eyes flick sidelong at Wynn then they return.
"Nevermind."
"HEY!" The slim rogue suddenly whirls about looking all around her. "Where's Bin!"
Wynn Monday January 7th, 2008 5:29:44 PM
"My name was handed me by my mother and father. It is but coincidence that it reflects my profession." Wynn nods graciously to the witch as she describes her role in these strange lands. "Alas, we have been sent here by minions of Gargul to discover what happenings disturb his senses. If all you say is true, I would happily represent your case before the God of life and death, for surely your mercy here allows the dead to pass with final peace, and their kin to let them go without further protestation to Gargul."
Xenia's question brings the bard some remorse, for he has sensed the cleric's desire to stay here in the shadows, a mission similar to the coven of flower. It is with a heavy heart that Wynn suggests the solution to the witch. "One of our number wishes to stay in the shadows and help those who die pass with dignity, perhaps he might find solice with you and your followers here in the Valley of Mercy?
Syr Monday January 7th, 2008 5:44:06 PM
The elf snorts once when he hears Angus' reply, "Loved one? Are you sure about that?" He elbows Lang once in the side.
Keeping his eyes focused on the witch, he answers Xenia, "As bizarre as it sounds, Bin decided to stay and help those in need here. Although not a follower of Flower, he could be of use here."
Angus (second illegal post) Monday January 7th, 2008 6:37:03 PM
Angus rolls his eyes in Xenia's direction as he was hoping to keep the witch talking. This "valley" does not seem right somehow and strange that Gargul would let it exist, but then again Angus does not know much about Flower or Gargul.
Xenia Monday January 7th, 2008 6:53:20 PM
"You mean he just walked off?" Xenia throws up her arms. "Into all that gray stuff out there?" The rogue shows off her incredulous. "Well, fram frangle."
"Oop. Pardon my language, Zerk. It's just, you know, like, hard to believe. I mean, who'd wanna wander forever out in all that spooky glowing rivers stuff? Not meeting nobody but deaders and that weerdo Imp Guy, you know?"
"Wynn's right. If he finds his way in here, his name's Bin Berry." She takes a quick peek at the witch's face again. "You'd like him. He's a little Obsession-Over-The-Top too."
"How'd you make it so nice in here?" Xenia begins wandering toward the buildings and to the right of Zerk. "I mean, it's real pleasant. Relatively speaking. But I think it's yanked Gargul something fierce that you've, you know, carved out a chunk of his domain."
Belkior d20+15=25 Monday January 7th, 2008 10:10:27 PM
The halfling cleric thinks back on what he learned of the followers of Flower. Belkior seems to recall that many of the priests of Flower were both inwardly and outwardly beautiful. Which, to be frank, Zerk isn't.
"How many other followers of Flower are there in the Valley, Zerk? I'm not certain that we should intrude on what must be your limited supplies."
"I'm not certain how Alemi would feel about your mission, for he invited Gargul to have dominion over the Lands of Rest. In my role as a healer, though, I can see the benefit that having a final message from the departed would benefit some people. How do you determine who should receive your mercy, and how do they reimburse you for it?"
As he stands with his companions waiting for Zerk to respond, Belkior whispers under his breath to them.
"In case I have to remind you, don't eat or drink anything in the Valley ... if need be, I can provide food and drink for everyone."
The Wary Witch (DM Cayzle) Tuesday January 8th, 2008 9:58:22 AM
By the way, the workers in the fields number about six. They look healthy and well. They are not slowed or marked by any major deformity. At this distance (a few hundred feet) you can't tell if any are missing eyes or fingers.
They have glanced up from their work, and then resumed their hoeing. It looks mostly like flower beds and vegetables. Some corn, and a few attempts at what may be sunflowers, but if so, those are one of the plants that are not thriving here.
There are a total of five buildings, you see. There are four making the corners of a square, and a round windowless building in the center. That round building has a doorway and four archways, into which streams of Woldsblood flow.
You note that two rivulets of Woldsblood flow through the valley (flowing uphill as easily as downhill) -- they meet at the center of the valley, at the round building).
Angus asks how Zerk can maintain this place. She smiles and says that she does have a few trade secrets.
But she is happy to answer his questions about her sacred work. "We call the dead soul here. We use divination magic to allow someone in the Wold to scry and speak with the soul. We do not charge for our works of mercy, nor do we brag in public about what we do. When a cleric of Flower sees one who is in deep grief, then the cleric offers a last goodbye to the one who is still living. That way we are careful not to be taken by shysters and rogues."
She grows more serious. "We know that the Lord of Life and Death frowns on our work. But we are careful to send those we call back to their rightful place. We do not raise the dead, and so far Gargullus the Great has not objected."
"Well, he has not objected very forcefully."
When Angus finally says, "You may need to advertise more as I may have used your services in the past," Zerk frowns and then smiles. "Friend Angus, were you disabled in grief? Had you lost a son or a mother? Were you lost and hopeless? If so, then truly I wish we had been able to help you. Otherwise you would not have been offered our help."
Lang figures its a longbowshot or so to the nearest building, more or less.
Zerk looks concerned at Xenia's words. "Have you lost a friend in the shadows?"
Syr tells Zerk that Bin went of his own will. She seems reassured.
Finally, Wynn, Xenia, and Belkior make it clear that they have met Gargul, his Imp, and that Gargul sent them.
She suddenly shuts up and looks alarmed. Her cauldron rears up on its four legs and then carries her off fast. She moves a couple hundred feet, and ends her move in the doorway to the round building.
The workers in the fields run to one of the four other buildings.
Angus Tuesday January 8th, 2008 4:00:06 PM
Angus begins to speak up to Zerk about his missing father that he presumes is dead and she turns tail "Well that was just rude."
Angus scans the area and then announces to the Shields "Well friends, it appears that Zerk here is not hear with Garguls blessing. This may be what he and the Imp spoke of. I do want to scout this out before we go barging in."
Angus messages Xenia "Do you think you can do a quick recon while invisible? You would have 11 minutes to scout and then return. We can move forward very slowly while you scout so you do not have as far to go on the return trip. What does everyone think?"
Angus looks down at Belkior "Are clerics and witches of Flower violent?"

Lang Tuesday January 8th, 2008 4:02:57 PM
Lang nocks and arrow and follows Zerks progress back to the central building. "I can cover Xenia from here if she gets in real trouble as well. Even better if we move up a bit."
Lang pauses a moment "They are kind of skittish. Did Zerk get a good smell of you Syr?" Lang finishes with a big grin.
Wynn d20+14=25 Tuesday January 8th, 2008 5:24:30 PM
"Zerk" Wynn calls out at the retreating witch. "You have no cause from fear for us! You have told us that our auras speak of no ill intent, and I have offered to speak on your behalf." Wynn understands the witches caution and remains as calm as possible, hoping to re-open the dialogue.
"Our only charge was to find out just what was happening here on behalf of Gargul. We have no intention of interfering. As I said, I would speak on your behalf if you so wished, and in order to do so, I would learn more of how you perform your services. If the dead can find a peaceful way to pass on, and the living are satisfied, then your work would seem to serve Gargul as well as flower." [Diplomacy=25]
Xenia d20+9=25 Tuesday January 8th, 2008 8:48:38 PM
"Yeah, yeah," the slim girl takes a few steps forward as Zert and the Magic Tub amscray, and the Coven Guys make for the buildings. "I can do that easy, Angus. But I think Wynn's right. I mean, like, look at them, huh? These Flower Guys don't seem to be doing nothing so bad."
"And it's not like they're 'ttaking us or nothing either, right? So what's the harm in just talking to them first, huh? We can, like, negotiate from a distance. What are they gonna do? Plug their ears? And if they get a little prickly about things, we can just run back off into Gargul's Gray stuff where I'm pretty sure they can't follow."
"The Imp Guy said Gargul couldn't see into here, right? Didn't say nothing 'bout Gargul wanting stuff destroyed. I mean, that might come later, but why don't we see if we can't get it to work out first. 'Kay? I mean, don'cha think the orphans woulda wanted to say a few last words to Mama Flaust? Wouldn'cha have wanted to say goodbye to Gordo?"
"Hey!" Xenia cups a hand to her mouth while waving the other one over her head. "Wynn's right! Gargul didn't say nothing 'bout kicking you out. He just told us to come take a look. He can't see in here, and it's got him worried. I'm sure if he found out the good stuff you're doing he'd be fine about it."
"You hear me in there? Let us talk to him about you. He's not such a bad guy."
(Diplomacy 25 to Aid Another with Wynn giving him +2)
Belkior d20+6=22 Tuesday January 8th, 2008 9:15:01 PM
The halfling cleric watches Zerk flee back to the central building. The response is puzzling, almost as if the clerics and witches are trespassing in Gargul's domain.
"Zerk! We came here solely to observe, not anything more!" Diplomacy (Aid Another) = 22
Belkior looks around at his companions. "Anyone else think that this might be a good time to go back and tell Gimp what we found over here?"
Syr Tuesday January 8th, 2008 10:32:48 PM
Wrinkling his nose at Lang, "Hey now, I thought only Sunshine had the sensitive nose! You try wiping off dragon drool and see how you smell!"
Syr quickly loses his smile as Xenia reminds him of where they really are.
Addressing the others, "They don't seem to be doing anyone any harm and what Zerk stated might be their only purpose here but I have a simple question... Where is all the Woldsblood going and what is it being used for? That might be of greater interest to Gargul then some poor folks seeking closure." He points to the two streams flowing into the central hut.
Dropping his voice to a whisper for only the group to hear, "If we do leave and report to Gimp, now might be a good time to ...drop off our best scout to observe and communicate via your message spell Angus."
Angus (second illegal post) Wednesday January 9th, 2008 8:11:20 AM
Angus nods at Syr "Not a bad idea. Lets get some more information first before we go back into the shadow lands proper and we all go back together. No spliting up. Lets send Xenia forward and support her and then go back and report our findings. All we see are building and people that say they follow Flower."
Angus will call Xenia over "Are you ready for some recon?" If Xenia give the affirmative, Angus will cast invisibility on the shadow dancer.
"Good Luck and remember 11 minutes. We will follow slowly."
The Cautious Coven (DM Cayzle) Wednesday January 9th, 2008 10:37:45 AM
The witch casts a spell -- some sort of telepathy spell, evidently -- and speaks to Wynn mentally.
"Thank you for saying that. But you do not know. After you give your report, Gargul will stop at nothing to shut us down. You may mean well, but your report will trigger our defeat, maybe our deaths."
"Well, I will not coerce you or hurt you. Flower frowns on that. If you can find it in your hearts to minimize what we are, or to shade the truth a little, I would be grateful."
"Best of all, tell him that two rivulets of Woldsblood meet here. That they give off a "feeling" that you found uncomfortable. That this is a natural phenomenon with no people here at all. That would be a great act of good."
"Ask me your final questions, if any, and then please go. We have to prepare our defenses."
Angus Wednesday January 9th, 2008 12:57:03 PM
Angus gives Xenia a two minute head start them attempt to get the group moving slowly forward "Let's see if we can get a bit closer and pick up Xenia. It will give her more time to scout."

Lang moves of in front of Angus and Belkior after the alotted time for Xenia to sneak away. Lang attempts to spot the daring rouge as a matter of practice.
Spot 11 (natural 1) Listen 17
Lang was not looking is the correct direction when Xenia went invisible and has no idea where she is. "Do you see the red head Syr?"
Wynn Wednesday January 9th, 2008 5:08:16 PM
The bard reaches out to Zerc with his mind, hoping she can listen as well as project thoughts. "Would you allow me inside to see with my own eyes what goes on within? It might help me better understand what Gargul would find so offensive? For example, all the Woldsblood seems to enter into your shrine and none would seem to leave. What becomes of the woldsblood within?"
Wynn relates to the others what Zerc has 'said' to him about their fear of Gargul and their wish that the shields reveal as little to Gargul as possible. "I have asked their leave to see within the shrine, for how can we know what we truly withold from Gargul if we cannot see it." he tells the rest of the shields. "Perhaps we should delay any further investigation until Zerc replies."
Xenia Wednesday January 9th, 2008 8:32:43 PM
"Wait. Hang on, Angus." The rogue holds off her companions spell for the moment. "Lets see if she's got more to say." She strains her ears, but hears nothing. Fully explained, though, when Wynn tells the group about the telepathy thing. After Wynn relates the witch's words, though, Xenia shakes her head.
"Um, I dunno about lying to a god. Don't seem like the safest thing to do, you know. But I'm willing to hear more of what they got to say. I mean, it's not like we don't got time. We wanna make sure we're doing the right thing. Right? One minute, five minutes, ten minutes. We can sneak on 'em after that, can't we?"
Belkior Wednesday January 9th, 2008 9:45:10 PM
The halfling cleric rubs his chin as he listens to what Wynn relates from the 'conversation' from Zerk. Belkior nods when Xenia suggests gaining more information.
"I'd have to agree with Xenia - lying to a God of the Wold, or even their representative like Gimp, is certainly not a good idea. We have to trust that Gargul is fulfilling the mandate given him by Alemi for the good of the Wold. It is entirely possible, though, that these followers of Flower are acting without the blessing and knowledge of their deity. Or, even if they are, that Flower and Gargul are acting at cross-purposes."
"So let's try to learn some more."
Syr Wednesday January 9th, 2008 11:36:46 PM
Syr nods in agreement with the others when more investigation is mentioned.
Looking over at the clustered buildings, "We also have another option. It sounds like we have a way home here. However, I just wouldn't feel right without fulfilling our part of the bargin to Gargul."
Angus (second illegal post) Thursday January 10th, 2008 8:30:12 AM
Angus is stunned when Wynn relates his tale. "Wow that spell or effect has some range. We can not lie to Gargul or Gimp as they will have ways to determine truthfullness or even intent. We came all the way here to fetch Lang and I do not want to Make Gargul mad and keep us here."
When Wynn suggest checking out the shrine himself "Zerk is hiding something, what I do not know, but we need to stick together and support one another. We do not go in alone."
Angus looks to Xenia "If we make you invisible we will move forward and support you in force. This is too strange and fishy. We have to be careful."
Xenia (2nd Illegal Post) Thursday January 10th, 2008 1:32:32 PM

"Alright people, lets move forward and keep alert. We are looking for infomation and not a fight. Lets see what is strange here, or at least not normal for this strange place, something like that."
Angus puts his big floppy leather hat on and exclaims "Lets see whats out there."
A Closer Look (DM Cayzle) Thursday January 10th, 2008 4:22:54 PM Angus suggets giving the now-invisible Xenia a head start, and then moving closer.
Lang is willing to move out with the group. He tries to spot Xenia but fails.
Wynn asks for permission to look inside the building. He suggests holding off on the recon for a moment.
Xenia also thinks a short pause would be a good idea.
She and Belkior think that lying to Gargul is a bad idea.
Syr has the clever idea of just going home from here.
Angus thinks that the witch's spell is something special. And so it seems to be, since no spellcraft check -- even a nat 20 -- would reveal it to be a spell with which he is familiar.
The group now waits on Wynn to go first, with Xenia following, and then the rest of the party.
If it is any encouragement, the witch points out to Wynn through their mental connection that the streams of Woldsblood do not all flow in. The one from the "north" flows out "south," and the one from the "east" flows out "west." And on closer inspection, that is true.
Zerk then offers to let Wynn alone enter the round building and look at "The Nexus." But she warns him that it can be dangerous, and his friends must not blame her if his soul is pulled from his body. Maybe he can just come closer and look through the doorway.
The DM will assume that Wynn and the party will move closer.
The room centers on the intersection of the two rivulets. Neither is big -- maybe five feet wide at the widest -- but when they meet, there is a potent swirling before each stream goes it own way. You have the sense, looking at it, of two bowstrings pulled tight against each other, each thrumming with stored vibrational energy.
There is a ring of over a dozen witches or witch-friends standing around the intersection -- what they call "The Nexus." There are stone bridges over the streams so that the circle can be complete. The ones in the circle seem to be concentrating.
Wynn feels the energy of The Nexus, even outside the building. It is like the zing in the air before lightning strikes. Or the hiss of a cobra before it bites. Wynn suspects that entering the building might be dangerous.
The danger is set off by an odd juxtaposition of art. The inner walls of the building, as much as Wynn can see, are covered with a mural of a garden filled with playing children. It lifts the spirits just to look at it.
Xenia d20+44=49 d20+15=23 d20+22=29 d20+17=30 Thursday January 10th, 2008 9:15:01 PM
Her step is light as Xenia mirrors Wynn's stride like a shadow. Sharp eyes and ears make sure nothing's gonna do them no harm. (Hide 49, Move Silently 23, Spot 29, Listen 30)
Maybe it's the place itself, or maybe it's what the Coven guys are doing. Whatever it is, though, it makes the girl rogue's hair feel prickly and out of control. And the closer they get to the weirdo buildings, the worse the feeling gets.
Xenia reaches out and gives a tiny tug at the back of Wynn's jerkin. Part is to tell him she's here and still with him. Part, she hopes, is to tell him that she don't wanna go any closer.
Belkior d20+15=26 Thursday January 10th, 2008 10:15:00 PM
The halfling cleric walks with the others, worried about what may happen to Wynn and Xenia. Everything that Belkior knows about Woldsblood makes him concerned about the safety of the pair.
Belkior is struggling to recall what he can about what Zerk is calling the "Nexus". He has the suspicion that what she said was correct, that it serves as a connection to some other place or plane. Knowledge Religion = 26
Wynn d20+6=17 Thursday January 10th, 2008 10:15:38 PM
Wynn feels the pull of the nexus as he nears, and keeps a safe distance from the swirling streams. He knows Xenia is at his back, and ventures no closer.
"Zerc" he thinks, "Why would Gargul find wrong with your actions here? Truthfully, you do not raise the dead here? You do not directly interfere with Gargul's role?"
Wynn awaits her answer, searching her voice and thoughts for what is truthful [Sense Motive=17]

"Do they hurt Gargul when they do that?"
More Answers (DM Cayzle) Friday January 11th, 2008 5:16:44 PM
Belkior recalls that witches draw on Woldsblood to power their arcane spells (they also get a few divine spells from their patron gods or powers). In the Wold, they tap the "shadow" that Woldsblood rivulets cast into the Wold proper. Witches call these "Ley Lines." A Nexus is where two Ley Lines meet.
Here, it seems, these witches are tapping not the shadows that fall into the Wold, but the rivulets themselves! Everything he knows about Woldsblood suggests to Belkior that this is madness or genius, or both -- very dangerous either way. Not only are they tapping Woldsblood, but they are tapping a Woldsblood Nexus! Do such things even exist? Is this a natural one or was it somehow created by these witches?
Angus and Wynn ask why Gargul would object to the witches' work. Syr wonders aloud -- does this somehow hurt Gargul? He counts at least a baker's dozen of witches in the circle.
Xenia simply feels nervous about it! Lang takes it more in stride, ready for action.
The witch is now close enough to hear, although the thrum of the Nexus gives an odd resonance to her words.
"Gargul is selfish and cruel!" she declares. "He wants no one but himself to use the power of Woldsblood. And he cares nothing for the grief of those who lose loved ones to death. He would end us if he found out about us!"
"But we hurt no one! The Blood of the Wold is unharmed! Gargul is unharmed! Except maybe for his massive ego, which permits of no trespass on his assumed authority!"
Xenia Friday January 11th, 2008 6:02:10 PM
"Psss. Wynn. Wyyyynn." Xenia tugs more insistently. "Witchie's startin' to sound a bit hystericalish." The rogue's own desperately increasing anxiety breaks her silence with these few whispered words.
"I got a baaaad feeling 'bout this."
Angus Saturday January 12th, 2008 6:58:46 AM

"Gargul is not Cruel or Selfish! Gargul just gave me my life back!"
Lang shrinks back for a moment at his own words and then puffs our his chest once again. Lang is not prone to such outbursts, but he a changed alot recently.
Lang's bow and three arrows in his hands give him comfort and confidence and he is glad that Sunshine is not in this strange land.
Syr Saturday January 12th, 2008 1:16:45 PM
Whispering to the others, "Guys, I have a suggestion? How about we get back to Gimp and report. This IS the god's land and I think he would know it better than anyone. Whether he is selfish or not is simply a matter of perspective. He knows the properties of Woldsblood and a Nexus. It's not for us to try and fathom if this is good, bad, or whatever. Let's just lay the facts out for Gimp and go from there."
Belkior Saturday January 12th, 2008 11:01:44 PM
The halfling cleric nearly injures himself nodding in agreement with Syr. Belkior is concerned about this Nexus, what the witches are doing and how involved both Gargul and Flower might be. Oen thing that he learned in seminary was that bad things happen to mortals who get involved in the conflicts between Gods.

Reporting Back (DM Cayzle) Monday January 14th, 2008 10:59:50 AM
The witch's tone begins to alarm the party. Is she nuts? Hysterical? Dangerous?
Maybe you all are just too far in over your heads. These are deep matters, when gods come into conflict.
Syr suggests heading back to report to Gimp. That would seem prudent.
Any last words for Zerk before you go?
It takes a little while to walk out of the valley, but soon enough, you are back in the Shadows proper, into which Xenia moves like a fish in water. Gargul's imp is sitting and reading some book, which at a glance seems to consist mostly of drawings of people and creatures, with the words the characters speak written above their heads.
Gimp leaps up when he sees you. "Well? Well? At least you came back! Alive! That's more than the last group did! What happened? What did you find out?"
Xenia Monday January 14th, 2008 11:12:31 AM
"Whew." Xenia, at a comfortable distance, breathes a sigh of relief. "She was getting kinda worked up. Good thing, huh? That we didn't tell her that we were not only supposed to come in and see what was going on, but afterwards it's us supposed to come back and be the ones to do something about it."
"You think she mighta 'ttacked us, Wynn?"
The rogue thinks for a bit, as they stroll down the hill toward the Imp reading the picture sheets. She sucks in a corner of her full dark lower lip as she ponders, worrying at it with her white and even teeth.
"You know if Gargul wants us to fix this for him, I wonder if he'd leave it up to us to fix it any way we think is best, huh? Maybe he would. You think we could maybe talk some Token of Authority outta that Imp Guy? You think?"
Angus Monday January 14th, 2008 5:13:32 PM
Angus is glad to leave the witches of Flower "Strange bird that Zerk. Definately does not like Gargul."

Angus will see how Gimp reaction and add "If that is all, we would like to get back to the Wold proper. These vauge directions are difficult, but now you know what is out there. Its been fun Gimp, have a good day."

Wynn d20+14=29 Monday January 14th, 2008 5:28:36 PM
"I for one do not believe them to be doing harm Gimp" the bard puts on his most convincing airs. "They claim solely to be allowing those in the Wold who have lost a loved one to have one last chance to speak with the deceased. The dead can then pass without qualm into the shadows, and the living can gain peace. Surely this is in fact a benefit to Gargul, and poses no real threat."[Diplomacy=29]
Xenia (2nd Post) d20+9=10 Monday January 14th, 2008 8:06:49 PM
"Wynn's right, Gimper," Xenia chimes in. "it's not like they're doing nothing 'gainst Gargul. And, if it looked a lot like they didn't like Gargul much, it was more like ... like they was 'fraid. They was sure Gargul would come storming in and stomp 'em dea ... Can you be dead in this place if you're alive?"
"But, unless what they're doing in there is hurting stuff, whyn't you just send us back in to tell 'em they can stay? I mean, wouldn't that suprise the heck out of them, huh? Might even bring 'em over to Gargul's side of things. Maybe they'd even help you out. You can't always count on folks like us coming through here. If there gonna be places like this cropping up, these Flower Coven Folks can probs check it out for you inna future."
"Whadday think?" (Aid Another Diplomacy 10 /Made the DC, but failed on a Nat 1)
Pause. Eyes frown with suspicion. PausePausePaus. Mouth pouts with suspicion too.
"What other group, Gimp? What other groups you had go in there and what happened to 'em?"
Belkior d20+6=21 Monday January 14th, 2008 9:26:30 PM
The halfling cleric walks back with his companions to where Gimp has been waiting. Ocne there, Belkior listens to Gimp's questions with rising concern. Even though Wynn has been speaking, Belkior can't help but speak.
"What exactly do you mean, Gimp? That the other group didn't come back, or that they didn't come back alive?"
After letting Wynn speak, Belkior will contribute what he knows as well.
"They're followers of Flower, or they seemed to be. Such folk do not do things without proper consideration and concern for the living. But that, of course, may be Gargul's problem." Diplomacy (Aid Another) = 21
Syr Tuesday January 15th, 2008 1:08:01 AM
Unsure what direction Gimp's answers will take and afraid his input might ruin Wynn's effective statement, Syr elects to remain silent when the others speak.
(OOC: I went updated a few things on our pedia entry. I'll revisit from time to time to put in more info.)
Lang Tuesday January 15th, 2008 10:43:38 AM
Lang listens to the group report back to Gimp. He wonders what they will have to do for Gargul to get his life back.
Gimp Throws A Fit (DM Cayzle) Tuesday January 15th, 2008 3:46:09 PM
Xenia wonders if Gimp can give them something to make the coming job easier.
Angus give the bare bones info to Gimp about that the group found. Angus asks if that is all.
Wynn adds more detail and tries to convince Gimp that they are doing work that Gargul would himself approve.
Xenia chimes in to support Wynn.
Belkior asks about the groups sent in earlier.
Syr keeps his own council for now.
Lang wonders what Gargul will demand.
As the imp listens, he begins to change color to a deep angry red. When he hears that the intruders are witches, steam comes from his ears. When he hears that they are fiddling with a nexus, he starts hopping up and down. Finally, when you are done, he lets out a wild yell: "AAARRRGGGGHHHH!"
"THOSE MISCREANTS! THOSE INFIDELS! THOSE MEDDLING FOOLS!" He bowls himself over and tumbles head over toes 30 feet before collapsing to a halt.
When he stands up and walks back, he is calmer. He says in a deadpan voice: "They must die."
But Wynn, supported in his diplomacy by several others, intercede.
"Very well, says Gimp. Banish them, push them back into the Wold, and destroy all their works. Its that simple.
He adds that the other groups he sent in were less savory, and they were killed off by an unknown force -- probably that witch.
"You have your job, and your friend's life. Now pay the price!" says the Imp
Xenia Tuesday January 15th, 2008 4:55:40 PM
Whoa, whoa, whoa! This one's just as tweakled as that Zerkie Girl!!!
"Um, hey, er, Gimp. Don't mean to imply that you don't got the power or nothing, but ... you mind if we talk to Gargul first 'afore we go destroying and banishing?"
Lang Tuesday January 15th, 2008 5:52:23 PM
Umm ... this is not good Lang thinks to himself. The Shields do not attack anyone unless provoked or are definitely evil.
Lang is not happy. His friends may have to go against their morals to try and get him raised. He cannot let them do that.
"Gimp I will not let my friends attack those people. They have done nothing to us. If you and Gargul have a fight with them so be it."
"If Gargul cannot accept that, then my soul will stay here and my friends can be released back into the Wold as no payment will need to be made then."
Lang keeps a brave face knowing that this maybe the last time he sees his comrades the Shields.
Angus Tuesday January 15th, 2008 6:17:18 PM
Angus gets red in the face as Gimp rants and then Lang speaks and all color drains out of his face. With a well controlled voice, Angus speaks "Gimp, Gargul asked us to find out what was happening and report back. We did our part. Let us leave in peace and take Lang with us. Killing and Banishing as Xenia stated was not part of the bargin, nor was leaving Lang here."
Angus puts a reasuring hand on Lang's shoulder "Thank you for the gesture, but you offer too much. There must be another way."
Wynn Tuesday January 15th, 2008 6:59:20 PM
"I agree with my comrades. I for one will not attack the witches. I found no evil there, nor any ill intent. Either let us leave with our friend as promised, or allow us to assist in brokering a peace between this coven and you and your master."
Belkior Tuesday January 15th, 2008 10:03:29 PM
The halfling cleric listens and considers what he has heard from Gimp. His companions ideas about seeking confirmation from Gargul may be warranted. Either way, Belkior isn't looking forward to what they may have to do.
Syr Tuesday January 15th, 2008 11:16:10 PM
Syr cringes inside when Xenia asks to speak to a God! He whispers to Lang, "Careful what you wish for, you just may get it."
Once Lang volunteers to stay behind his jaw drops in amazement, "Not an option!" He punches the Ranger in the arm. "I know you were not amoung the living but we already fought a dragon just to save you! Giving up now is something Bin would do. The Shields are better than that." The elf glares at Lang to verify he got the message.
Gimp Flips (DM Cayzle) Wednesday January 16th, 2008 11:57:28 AM
Like the flip of a switch, Gimp takes a seat and is calm.
"No skin off my apple. If you all won't do it, we'll get someone else to, sooner or later," Gimp says. To Lang, he adds, "Take my hand and we'll be on our way -- and your friends can go their way."
To Xenia, he says, "No, you're not going to bother the Boss again. I'll give him a report later."
To Wynn, he says, "They would have to agree to a supervisor who approved each calling they did. And they would never agree. But even then, it is not their place to touch the Woldsblood so directly. No, they must go back to the Wold and practice their atrocities in mortal lands."
[DM Cayzle OOC: Note that Matt has chosen to retire his PC and make a new one. This is one way to give him an out. If you choose to keep him alive for role play reasons, then you will have to find some way to close down these witches. You CAN do this without jeopardizing your alignment, so long as you kill no one and inflict as little hurt as possible. Doing so would be an interesting (and fun, I hope) adventure. But maybe a tough and frustrating one too, without the clarity of killing your foes, and without the satisfaction of defeating evil.]
Xenia Wednesday January 16th, 2008 1:57:49 PM
Uh uh uh uh uh !?!?!?!?????
"Laaaang!" Xenia's whole posture speaks of gob smack. "I mean ... I mean ... "
Then, like a light from the blue the bits of words that have been flying around all come together. ... selfish ... Woldsblood ... not their place ...
"You!" Xenia points a finger at the Gimp guy. "I know what it is now. You *and* them witches! You don't give a krinkled butt about nobody's soul or how their folks feel or nothing. What you're doing is fighting over the Woldsblood!"
The entire scenario takes on a crystal clarity. This mess is all about Stuff! These folks wanting to take stuff from those folks and those folks killing them down before they can get the chance. No high flown service to gods and love and such. It all comes down to owning Stuff.
"You know," a canny look comes over the dark rogue's face, "in a way, that sorta, like, levels the moral playing field, if you know what I mean? Only difference is ... you got something we want and they don't."
"So, lemme get this straight. All you want, is for them to be outta this Gargul Land place. Right? Long as *they* go back to the Wold, you're good. Right?"
"So, lets say we don't kill 'em. But we tie 'em up or sump'in. We don't got the power to open up a hole to the Wold and push 'em through. We need sump'in to let us open up a hole to the Wold. Right, Gimpster? You got something like that? Got something we can borrow?"
Angus Wednesday January 16th, 2008 8:54:10 PM
Angus looks at Lang "Everyone has free will to choose, but are you sure about this choice. We are with you and will neutralize the witches with and for you...and maybe teach Gimp a thing or two." Angus glance over at Gimp with a look of displeasure.
Angus takes his hand of Lang's shoulder "I will abide by your decision, but know that we are will you."
Angus waits for Lang to response, shifting from foot to foot with nervous energy about his friends choice.
Wynn Wednesday January 16th, 2008 9:12:51 PM
The bard looks to Lang, searching for a clue as to how committed his friend is to this path.
Belkior Wednesday January 16th, 2008 10:10:08 PM
The halfling cleric waits, as well, for Lang's decision.
Syrdeth Thursday January 17th, 2008 9:19:24 AM
Syr looks at Gimp and the hand that he is offering to Lang, "Don't do it Lang. Do you really want to spend your days here? Do you really think this place has need of a tracker? And what about Sunshine? You are ready to just abandon him? The Lang we know would never take the easy way out."
Lang Thursday January 17th, 2008 3:27:19 PM
Lang moves over to stand near Gimp. His face has a sad look to it.
"I can't take the chance that Gargul and Gimp are going to make the group do something they would not normally do to try and save me. I wouldn't want that on my conscious."
"Remember me and stay true to our cause."
Lang moves off with Gimp.
OOC - Good role playing. Almost made me change my mind about retiring Lang!
Fare well, and done with the Shadows? (DM Cayzle) Thursday January 17th, 2008 4:52:06 PM
Lang makes his hard choice and, after farewells, goes with Gimp to the Lands of Rest.
The priests among you instinctively know the way back. You are alone here where mortals should not be. Is it time to return to the green living Wold? Or have you any other business?
Belkior Thursday January 17th, 2008 5:17:27 PM
The halfling cleric looks around at his companions, tears welling in his eyes. Now that Lang has made his decision, Belkior thinks that the best thing is to leave this place.
"The way back is that way," as the halfling points absently down the hill.
"Let's take it easy as we go since we're not entirely certain what we might encounter as we journey back to the Wold."
Xenia Thursday January 17th, 2008 7:30:40 PM
"Lang! Where you going? We can do this. All kinds a stuff we can do! Lang!"
"RrrAAAAHHHHH!"
Xenia screams like an angry cat. From the ground she swoops up a stone and hauls back to peg it at the back of the Impy guy's head.
"Stupid. Got no sense! You got no sense! NO SENSE!"
With a growl and a face pulled into a fierce grimace the think dark girl slams the stone into the earth where it makes little more than an empty thud, all energy leached by the gray and barren ground.
"None of you. Stupid Gargul guys. Stupid coven guys." She sniffs and wipes her dark face with her sleeve. "He's gone, Wynn." She takes his arm and buries her head against his shoulder. "He's gone."
Wynn Thursday January 17th, 2008 9:36:04 PM
"C'mon girl, there's nothing we can do here." Wynn pulls Xenia closer to him and holds her for just a moment. "I don't know why he chooses to stay, or what he hopes to accomplish, but I know better than to argue with Lang..."
Wynn offers a silent salute to his friend before leading Xenia away from this place.
Angus Friday January 18th, 2008 12:02:30 AM
Angus watches Lang walk away with Gimp and mutters "That was harder than when he died. That was a hard strange choice, but one he made for us."
Angus gets his composure back "Lets get out of here before the powers that be change their minds. I am sick of this place."
Once Belkior start leading he takes his natural position next to the cleric "I am glad you know the way. I still can not get over Lang's self sacrifice. Not sure I have it in me to do the same."
After a few minutes Angus adds "Belkior, can you lead us back to Plateau City or even to the orphanage. I really do not want to be stuck out in the wilderness of Stone Gap, but there is the matter of Sunshine."
Angus Halts for a moment "Does anyone want to adopt Sunshine? I am not sure were Belkior can lead us out the these Shadowland, but we may have a choice and Sunshine is a real long way from our home."
Xenia sniffs and looks up from the solace of Wynn's arm.
"I'll take care of the pup, Angus." She looks up into Wynn's eyes. In her own eyes shows the gratitude as well as the love. Solid as a rock, he is. Safe harbor against the shifting storms of life.
"Or maybe the kids would like a pet out at the plantation, huh? It'd be more room for Sunshine to run. More then that small garden we got on Merchant Level."
With a small squeeze of his arm, she leans her weight off of him and walks under her own power. She wipes her eyes and takes a look around. (Spot 34, Listen 26) If Belkie says they're not out of the woods yet, best to pay heed.
Angus (Second illgal post) Friday January 18th, 2008 12:41:46 PM
Angus nods toward Xenia and Wynn. "Thank you Xenia. I like you idea of Sunshine at the orphanage."
Angus look down at Belkior "Well that mean we need you to lead us back to the Stone Gap area. We will have a long, long walk back to the Floating City and the Orphanage from there, maybe I should have taken teleport instead of Wall of Force."
Syr Friday January 18th, 2008 4:27:38 PM
Syr nods in agreement with Angus, "And may we never come back!"
Looking over at the halfling, "Belkie, you seem to know a bit about this place, are we going to come back the same place we left? I guess the least we can do is round up Sunshine. I think Xenia's idea of the kids would be great for him and them."
Syr leans over to whisper to Lang out of habit before realizing the ranger is gone with Gimp. Looking slightly deflated he mutters to himself, "what's a wall of force anyway?"
