Thar/Ken M Sunday December 30th, 2007 11:06:56 AM
Thx Jeff. He just gained another level in cleric (yea!) and is a 5th cle/3rd ranger now. He hasn't had time to memorize his spells for the new level and as soon as we have a resting moment, he will.
I'll email the file to you and I appreciate you running him!
Blessings Ken
The ugliness. (DM Jim) Sunday December 30th, 2007 10:40:15 PM
As the group goes about getting the dead separated from those that can still be saved, the PCDL move in to help out. You find them to be watching you though as if expecting you to hurt someone else instead.
The two PCDL, Jenna and Olan, have finished their own casting and soon gallons of water are being poured onto the flames. Soon the warehouse is out and they have moved onto the other burning buildings. Both of them give the party glaring looks as if they should have figured this out earlier...or maybe it is because they think that the group started the fires.
Shadow is neatly forgotten as he slips into the shadows of a nearby alley and is soon lost. He finds his way to the nearest guard station and finds that the guards that should be there are gone. As he searches for someone or anyone that he figures they can trust...he runs into Constable Rabbitsfoot and Gormley.
While Shadow and the two Constables are racing back to the scene of the crime, Jenna and Olan have been busy in putting out the rest of the fires. The seven members of the PCDL have come back together and are now facing off with the Mithril Order. The leader of the group shakes his head. "Has your group not done enough damage?" Glancing around and despite the fact that you have been helping out the injured...his eyes return to glare at the group. "We will be taking you all into custody...drop your weapons and come quietly." As his eyes rove over the group his face sours further. "Ok, which one of you is missing?" He does not really expect to get an answer, but he has to pose it anyways.
Several of the citizens that have been more or less helpful, come forward to stand off to the side. There are several voices raised in defense of the Mithril Order, while a few others seem to think that the whole mess is the fault of the group. Things are beginning to turn ugly and with so many dead still around.
[Sorry guys. The holidays took me by surprise and I have been rather busy and not able to post in any of the games.]
Kadaz (AC 26, HP 49/52, con 7/16, ( Old HP max 86)) Monday December 31st, 2007 6:39:19 AM
Kadaz, by now back to his normal size, moves up to talk to the PCDL folks. "Thank you for helping with this disaster. But I don't believe you have the authority to arrest anyone. Why don't we all just wait peacefully for the Guard to arrive. There has been enough violence in the streets for one day."
Thar ail Baerer Monday December 31st, 2007 9:27:24 AM
Finishing his healing (at least for now), Thar remains silent and lets the humans talk to the PCDL members, knowing that elves aren't on their Christmas list.
While waiting though, he'll draw both weapons, but leave them next to his side and trying not to appear threatening.
Conner d20+5=25 Monday December 31st, 2007 2:07:46 PM
The fighter emerges from the now smoldering warehouse, dragging the shapeshifters body with him. "You lookin' for me" he asks when asked where the missing member of the part is, "or are you lookin' fer him."
Conner drops his hold on the limp form and rests a single hand on the pommel of his sword in a menacing fashion. It should be clear that he has no intention of surrendering himself to these low-lifes [Intimidate=25; nat 20!!].
Kisten Monday December 31st, 2007 6:10:17 PM
The Paladin regards the PCDL calmly, no longer attempting to help the civilians now that she is about to be "arrested". Kirsten shakes her head somewhat, but lets the others do the talking.
The Ugliest Temperment. (DM Jim) Monday December 31st, 2007 7:47:19 PM
The leader of the PCDL sneers at the comment and does not even back down when Conner shows back up. His intimidation does not seem to phase the leader of this little group, though a couple of them take a few steps back. "Oh, we do have the right in times like these to impose "martial law"." The sneer slowly becomes a sickening smile as his eyes stay locked with Kadaz.
Feeling a little more sure of themselves the PCDL start to spread out a little further, readying themselves for what may come. The leader glances to Conner and shakes his head. "Not you...the sneaky one." His eyes roam over the whole group and he waits for them to deny it.
The citizens have started to turn on each other, though no violence has broken out yet. They seem to be of a mixed bag on what should be done and you feel that thing will soon get ugly. There are already the beginnings of fists being waved and pieces of debris being picked up.
Just as one guy takes a swing and knocks one of the other citizens flat on his butt, there is a holler from the burned warehouse. "I will have none of that or I will be carting all of you off to jail!" The voice is commanding and when you turn, it is kind of comical as the speaker is the halfling...Constable Rabbitsfoot. Right at his side is another of the Constables, the one known as Gormley and his own face is pulled tight in anger. It is Gormley that speaks next and the anger is evident in his voice. "This is a Constable matter and the Plateau City Defense League will leave it to us to handle." His eyes bore into the man in charge of the group.
As the two Constables and Shadow, who you finally notice behind them, continue to move closer...the PCDL leader turns to the Mithril Order. "We will see about this in the end." With a lot of anger and disgust, he turns with the rest of his group and start for other parts of town. Still the threat lingers in your minds as they leave. The citizens have turned and look shamefaced as the Constables move forward. A couple of men have helped the downed man back to his feet and he is nursing a hurt jaw.
As most start to disperse and start the job of cleanup, Constable Rabbitsfoot looks to the man that was punched. "Jack, would you like to press charges against Riley?" Gormley has already moved to detain Riley and make sure that he does not go far. With a shake of his head Jack starts to go and help out his friends. "No thanks." With that everyone breaks up, leaving the two Constables standing facing the Mithril Order.
Arm Tuesday January 1st, 2008 9:55:14 AM
The arrival of the REAL law enforcement group saves Arm from issuing a scathing retort to the PCDL's delusions of grandeur. However, he cannot resist responding to their leader's final remark as he rests his hand comfortably on the pommel of his sword and puts on a smile that can only be defined as borderline evil, "Yes, we WILL see about this in the end, and it will not be a PLEASANT end for you.".
Turning to Rabbitsfoot and Gormley, he says, "It seems we've found another shapeshifter, and a particularly nasty one at that.".
Edmund Tuesday January 1st, 2008 11:20:11 AM
OOC: Accidentally posted this as private. Sorry. >.<
Edmund frowns as he watches the PCDL boobs depart.
"What those fellows need is a good kick in the pants," he says irritably. "Death and danger, and they only show up after things are all clear. Then they try to make us out to be the ones responsible. If we were capable of such mayhem, why would we stand around waiting for a band of bigoted bumpkins to politely round us up? Logic!"
Edmund turns to Gormley and Rabbitsfoot and declares, "Unless you want a real problem on your hands, you had better outlaw the PCDL and make it clear that their actions will not be tolerated in the city. They are brigands and rogues who stir up violence and attack innocent people."
Kadaz (AC 26, HP 49/52, con 7/16, ( Old HP max 86)) Tuesday January 1st, 2008 1:21:19 PM
Kadaz watches carefully as the PCDL folks leave. "They're trouble makers, that's for sure" he comments. He turns to the constables. "Thanks for your timely arrival. Shall we show you what's inside?"
Thar Tuesday January 1st, 2008 1:23:31 PM
Thar looks carefully around at the wounded and dead citizens. "We've done what we can for these poor folks. The ones that are still alive need more serious help. Would someone please run to a nearby temple for more assistance?"
Conner Tuesday January 1st, 2008 4:06:13 PM
The fighter relaxes at the departure of the elf-haters and reports to the two-constables. "This thing", he rolls the corpse over with his feet, "was responsible for all of this. Summoned these two creatures that babbled on and consumed all in their path. I think it's the same one as we battled before in the underground cavern. Don't know what it wanted in the warehouse, but maybe there's some clues that survived the blaze."
Conner takes a step back to allow Gormley and Rabbitsfoot to examine the shapeshifter. "I think this thing has been behind some of the Plateau City Defence League troubles, takin' folks shape and stirrin' up folks and the like."
Kirsten Tuesday January 1st, 2008 7:15:07 PM
Kirsten looks around once the PCDL is gone, relieved that Gormley and Rabbitsfoot have arrived. She waits to see what they have to say to the group, and how they react to Conner's dead shapeshifter.

Arm Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 6:00:33 AM
For once, Arm nods in agreement at Ed's words, and adds, "Yes, and they actually had the gall to say that they have the authority to arrest us when it is THEM that need to be put behind bars.".
Shadow Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 6:56:00 AM
Shadow is relieved that the two guardsman were agreeable to coming. He sees that they made it to the scene just in time to avoid a very unpleasant situation. "I am not sure that this is finished between us and the PCDL, but hopefully it might be finished with these shapeshifters." Shadow hopes.
Edmund Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 2:59:56 PM
Edmund doesn't like the idea of shapeshifters, and makes this view apparent with much scowling when Shadow mentions them.
But even the destruction around the area is not enough to permanently dishearten Edmund. After a few moments of standing there fussing, he realises something important is missing.
"Good heavens," he cries. "We've missed lunch!"
Kadaz (AC 26, HP 49/52, con 7/16, ( Old HP max 86)) Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 4:50:09 PM
Birdie is taking advantage of this break in the action. He has come up to Kadaz and is rubbing up against the dwarf's legs. Kadaz reaches down and rubs the dog's head. "Time to be doing something, isn't it. Well, just relax a bit. We'll be moving on soon."
Thar Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 4:51:25 PM
Thar continues aiding those in need of his healing touch. He feels great sorrow as he looks over those the creature killed before they were able to get there. The streets of Plateau City are more hazardous than they seem.
Conner Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 5:00:26 PM
The fighter looks to the two constables for direction. "Perhaps we should search the warehouse area for clues? Find out what they were up to?"
Mira d20+12=24 Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 7:58:07 PM
Mira shakes off the last vestiges of stupor, a residual effect of the attack by the giant Mouther. Edmund and the others seem to have things well in hand however. The sorcerer marks Riley well, and gives him the 'evil eye' (Bluff=24) as he slinks away.
While Rabbitsfoot and Gormely are filled in on what transpired by Edmund, Conner, and Kadaz, Mira seeks out Shadow. The sorcerer enquires quietly if the rogue has looted the bodies in the warehouse and what he has found.
Kirsten Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 11:21:43 PM
She waits to see what Gormley and Rabbitsfoot have to say before taking any further action, not wanting to get herself into an unnecessary trouble.
Lets find out. (DM Jim) Wednesday January 2nd, 2008 11:48:00 PM
Rabbitsfoot and Gormley both nod their heads as the members of the Mithril Order speak. "We had heard reports about your group coming to the warehouses and figured for trouble." Shaking his head Gromley clears his throat in disdain. "Those PCDL group have been rather busy lately...they have gotten themselves put into a position to arrest and detain people as needed. Seems they have given some information and proof that the city itself is in trouble by some outside force." He stops talking as he looks to Rabbitsfoot and notices the halfling giveing him the eye.
Rabbitsfoot soon is taking charge as he once again nods his head, though he has come over and is kneeling near the corpse of the doppleganger. As he pokes around the dead creature he looks up and his eyes narrow. "Are you sure this is the one you fought earlier?" He does nothing else with the corpse but does look in the direction of the warehouse you mention and slowly stands. "Let us check out the warehouse." Pointing to the corpse he nods to Gormley. "Watch this body and anything it has belongs to these people." With that last he indicates the Mithril Order.
Then he is off in the direction of the warehouse to see what else he can find out. Silently he wonders why this warehouse was not burnt as well, but the other one was...most strange.
[I will be making note of Hero Points in my next DM post. You will be getting a few things from the corpse as well. We may experience a little bit of downtime as I am needing to start the next module...or at least I think I need to start a new one. Not sure with the reorganization.]
Arm Thursday January 3rd, 2008 6:03:55 AM
As Gormley speaks, Arm thinks to himself, "Why can't they see that the PCDL is a threat to the city?".
When Rabbitsfoot questions the validity of their story, his eyes narrow as well as he says, "We are most definitely sure that this is the one we fought. Fortunately for us and these poor people, there WAS only one of them this time.".
As the constable enters the warehouse, Arm takes the opportunity to question Gormley further, "So what's this about an outside force threatening the city?".
Conner Thursday January 3rd, 2008 7:29:13 AM
"Hard to say really! Damn shapechangers can appear anyway they want. But this one seemed to know us from before, and it shifted into a huge ape, just like the one before!"
Shadow Thursday January 3rd, 2008 7:38:44 AM
"We have to be depleing them, right?" Shadow asks of the group. "Let's get in the warehouse and see if there is any more information for us." Shadow moves too enter the warehouse with a glance over his shoulder to make sure the PCDL group is out of sight.
Edmund Thursday January 3rd, 2008 4:30:39 PM
Edmund shrugs at the constables questions.
"How can anyone be sure of anything with a Doppleganger?" he asks, rather snippily. "It might be the same one, it might not--but whatever the case, it certainly knew us, and I think it is the same one as before."
Edmund sniffs a bit, looking about. "Let's hurry up and get this over with. I'm famished, and I've missed my tea, and I definitely need a bath!"
Kadaz (AC 26, HP 49/52, con 7/16, ( Old HP max 86)) Thursday January 3rd, 2008 5:06:00 PM
After helping out everyone who needs it, Kadaz heads back into the warehouse to search it for anything of interest. Birdie trots along at Kadaz's feet.
Along the way Kadaz tries to make small talk with Rabbitsfoot. "Find any good restaurants lately?"
Thar Thursday January 3rd, 2008 5:07:35 PM
Outside on the street Thar moves out from the dead and severely wounded to look at the less wounded folks. He walks up to bystanders who look injured and offers to help.
Kirsten Thursday January 3rd, 2008 7:13:36 PM
Knowing that she will be of little worth looking through the warehouse with the others, Kirsten, like Thar will continue to offer her assistance to those still lingering within the streets in need of help.
Healing and warehouses. (DM Jim) Thursday January 3rd, 2008 10:51:34 PM
Gormley stays behind and you catch him talking to what appears to be himself. He is looking over those that have been killed and those that have been hurt. It appears that he is doing some triage work in his head and maybe speaking aloud as he does.
Rabbitsfoot has since moved along with the bigger majority of the group towards the warehouse. "You are right, it is impossible to tell with dopplegangers...but from what you said." He seems to stop talking to mull it over a little more and think over what you have told him. "It had to be the one then." He glances to Arm and shrugs his shoulders. "Politics my friend....and they have a few connections it seems." The rest of his time is spent in general conversation about a couple of hotspots in town that have some decent food. One is a fairly new place that deal mostly in tea, lighter wines and raw fish. He thinks that the place is really nice and the food good, though he was skeptical at first. The second place is an older establishment and rather small. The serve more what he calls comfort foods: warm breads, hearty stews and meals that remind you of home.
As you enter the warehouse it is just as you left it, but without the doppleganger body in near the circle in the middle of the floor. With a little more time to look around you notice that there are two sets of stairs that lead up to scaffolding that surrounds the warehouse and creates an upper catwalk. There is also a slightly larger structure up there as well, with a door. There are still a number of crates and barrels laying around the warehouse as well.
Runes still glow faintly on the wall, but seem to be less pronounced than before. Rabbitsfoot cluck his tongue as he starts to nose around the circle and glance to the wall. "Now how did they hide this?" You figure him to be musing outloud and not actually asking a question. Glancing to Arm he turns a little red in the face, from what must be embarrassment. "You did think to check the body?" He is mad at himself for not thinking of it before, but he had several things to take care of.
Conner Friday January 4th, 2008 12:07:42 AM
"One of whom?" he directs his question in response to Rabbitsfoots ramblings, " and who do you believe them to be in league with?"
When the constable notices the runes and speaks of checking the body, Conner cannot contain himself any longer. "God forsooth man! Stop talking in riddles...check the body for what? and if you know what these markin's are for then just say so!"
Arm Friday January 4th, 2008 6:03:06 AM
When he hears of the PCDL's "connections", Arm grimaces even more and says, "Then perhaps these connections should be investigated as well. Anyone who would support these hate-mongers cannot have pure intentions at heart.".
As they enter the warehouse and he is quizzed about searching the body, Arm says, "Frankly we haven't had much time to do so, what with the PCDL showing up and whatnot. I will see to it immediately.".
Before he goes back outside, he catches Conner's eye and makes a 'V' shape with his right index and middle fingers, points them at his eyes, then uses his index finger to point at Rabbitsfoot's back. He STILL doesn't completely trust Rabbitsfoot or Gormley, as he believes they are witholding information from the Order, information that may be vital to their survival.
Shadow d20+10=20 d20+10=30 Friday January 4th, 2008 7:15:26 AM
"I wondder what is in these crates and barrels." Shadow wonders out loud. He hopes to get permission from Rabbitsfoot to search the crates and barrels much closer. He will climb one set of stairs and check out the structure up there with a door. He will see if the door is trapped or locked.
Actions: Search=20 Disable Device=30
Kadaz Friday January 4th, 2008 7:18:55 AM
Kadaz looks up at the elevated door. "Looks like we need to do a bit more investigating. Who's up for it?" He heads for the stairs to see what's up there.
Thar Friday January 4th, 2008 7:19:42 AM
Once his work on the street is done Thar heads back inside the warehouse to support the others.
Edmund Friday January 4th, 2008 10:52:57 AM
Edmund looks up at the door above and sighs deeply.
"All right, all right," he grumbles. "I suppose we can have a look around, if you insist, if you really must, if there is no other choice. Let's get it done, though! I'm hungry!"
With that, he stomps off to investigate.
Mira Friday January 4th, 2008 6:05:07 PM
The sorcerer's face goes red when the halfling starts talking about...restaurants! "The city infrastructure is inadequate to meets the needs of the population that have survived. We've got enemy infiltrating from the tunnels below, and no way to stop them! And idiots like the PCDL acting like they have legal authority to exercise martial law, and you talk about food!"
Mira catches her breath, blows a stray whisp of hair from off her forehead, and hands on hips and continues, "we're out here putting our lives on the line, and you're keeping secrets!" Jutting a chin out, she ends, "better spill the beans or else find someone else to do your dirty work!"
Who knows? (DM Jim) Friday January 4th, 2008 9:31:57 PM
Rabbitsfoot glances to first Conner and then finally to Mira. His eyes have narrowed and he shakes his head. "How much do you think that I know?" He glances to each in turn and sighs. "I know that the doppleganger that you fought and killed is only a feeler. I am not sure who the mastermind behind all of this is." Glancing around to make sure that noone else is listening that should not be he glances back. "I am guessing that something bad is on the horizon for the city. Maybe an invasion force of somekind or maybe someone wanting to start a war." Shaking his head, his slowly stands. "Geez, it could just be a political move from one of the factions in the city itself." He seems to be totally flustered and not at all happy about the fact that he knows so little. Glancing to Shadow he nods his head. "Open the crates and barrels...but be careful about it. I don't want any of you getting killed on me."
As he follows along with those that have already gone up the stairs he continues to give his speculations. "The Plateau City Defense League is one of the few organizations that have a true hate for elves....and most other races as well. Did you not notice that the group you faced off against was all human?" There is a certain amount of annoyance and maybe anger in his voice when he speaks next. "The council that rules the city, made up of a representative of each faction of the city...does not keep me in the loop that much. If you have not noticed, noone is happy with elves these days...especially with that Fae King thing." His eyes turn on each member in turn and they seem to bore right through you. "If you have not noticed, my partner is also an elf...to almost a third of the council, I am an elf lover." He snorts as if the whole idea is absurd that he would favor one race over another. "It is my job to be objective...I take no sides until the evidence tells me otherwise."
As you enter the small room, you notice that it is actually an office. There is a large desk near the wall and a pair of cabinets next to it. Papers litter the desk but the room seems to be clean otherwise. Rabbitsfoot moves off to look at the papers on the desk but is slow in moving them. "As for who is in league with the PCDL...I would guess about the same amount of the council that has it in for elves. That whole group has been given some power to arrest people, detain them for questioning and maybe worse. It is all approved by the council of course and is for the greater good of the city itself." Once again he snorts as if he does not believe it in the least. "So this mess only helps in giving them power....and if you are going to ask me if the council is involved with the dopplegangers, I don't know." He seems even more annoyed than usual with all the holes that are appearing in the information that they get.
Back outside, Arm finds the body to be right were it was left. He finds that Gormley is not too far away and he nods to the young man. "I have clerics on the way." As he glances around you can tell that he is not only keeping an eye out for trouble, but also watching for something else. Maybe he is looking for signs of someone watching the area.
On the body, Arm find a few items that he can easily pocket. He also comes across another scroll case of somekind of black wood. The top really a wooden cap, but is sealed with red wax that is most likely there to keep water out. Other than the few items: a pair of rings, necklace, armor, dagger and a pair of gloves; the rest seems to be mostly mundane items of little note...but maybe worth a look.

Edmund sighs at Mira's outburst, because of course nine tenths of Edmund's conversation is about food, and the other one tenth is about baths.
Looking around at the boxes, Edmund takes a look into a few of them to try and get a feel for what sort of things there are here. He also takes care to look around on the floor and behind the boxes in case there is anything else worth seeing. (Search=19)
Doing his best to include as many of the boxes as possible in the area of effect, Edmund will also cast Detect Magic to see if there is anything magical inside them.
(Detect Magic: For Edmund's DCs to determine the school of magic in addition to strength, aura, location information. I have rolled ten checks, feel free to roll more if it is needed. Edmund's Spellcraft modifier is +18. First ten rolls: Spellcraft=23, 35, 19(Nat.1), 35, 26, 37, 35, 33, 24, 26)
Conner Sunday January 6th, 2008 9:53:07 AM
The big man can sense the frustration in the halfling's words, and takes a different tone with the constable. "What can you tell me about those runes all over the building, and what was it that they kept in hiding from you?" he asks.
Kirsten Sunday January 6th, 2008 6:57:34 PM
She sticks close to Edmund, then, peering over him as he goes to work trying to find out what the items are.
"Sense anything?" she asks quietly.
Arm Monday January 7th, 2008 6:01:18 AM
Idly fingering the objects that he found, he pockets them. Standing and stretching, he tries to send a message, if the spell is still available, "Mira, Ed, Thar, and Kirsten, I could use some detect evil and/or magic spells out here. When you have a chance, could you please come out?". If he doesn't get a response, he will go back inside and ask the same question of them.
Arm (2nd illegal post) Monday January 7th, 2008 6:03:20 AM
Once he gets the appropriate people outside, he shows them the items he found, and also gives to corpse another once over, and anything he even remotely finds of interest he will extract from it and show to his friends.
Kadaz d20+1=10 Monday January 7th, 2008 6:55:58 AM
The office searched, Kadaz has a thought. "I wonder if there is a secret door leading downwards? These guys seems to like the sewers a lot." Kadaz starts searching the floor of the warehouse looking for a trapdoor. (search 10)
Shadow d20+10=18 Monday January 7th, 2008 7:12:19 AM
Once the group determines that the office is clear, Shadow will move back downstairs to see if he can help see if there is anything worthwile in the warehouse. He will search around looking for anything that would indicate heavy use off the normal path of use.

Thar ail Baerer Monday January 7th, 2008 8:59:09 AM
(Thanks to jeff for posting for me this week. I'm back now...)
Thar will cast detect evil to help out with looking at the materials. Once done, he'll help search the offices and area.
Edmund Monday January 7th, 2008 11:00:22 AM
Edmund shrugs to Kirsten.
"Not sure yet," he says. "Let me concentrate a bit longer, and I can tell you."
Kirsten Monday January 7th, 2008 12:59:47 PM
Seeing that Thar has taken care of the evil detection, she nods to Edmund and waits quietly to see what they have to say about the items.
Mira Monday January 7th, 2008 10:28:33 PM
Mira looks around in order to learn if the hysteria caused by the recent attack has died down. If she is satisfied that the victims are being suitably looked after, and there are no further threats, she will try to get the party to regroup.
"Lets collect up this gear and return to the apartment. I'd rather not reveal too much out here..." the sorcerer's gaze sweeps the square, "where we are so exposed."
Mira will carry whatever she can, in order to help out. "Edmund, you make up a pot of tea when we get back, and Conner or Kadaz, fetch us a bottle of...something stronger, okay? I think I've got some bread and cheese stashed away somewhere."

Arm nods to Mira and thanks Thar for his services. Picking up everything else that he can (he figures that he can discard anything that isn't worth even selling), he trails after Mira, suddenly realizing how hungry and thirsty he is.

If the group does not find anything else in the warehouse he will agree with Mira, "Yes, I think maybe the group should return to the apartment. I think however that I will stay in the vacinity and see if anybody shows up to see what happened to our friend there." He indicates the doppleganger.
If the group does not seem to have a problem with it he will find a place that he can observe the warehouse comfortably.
Kirsten Tuesday January 8th, 2008 1:24:36 PM
As the others suggest going back to the apartment, Kirsten nods slowly in agreement. She will go with the others if it appears the situation at the warehouse has been, for the most part, resolved.

Edmund Tuesday January 8th, 2008 7:49:31 PM
Edmund is more than happy to put the kettle on, and will do so once they get back.
"Glad to be of assistance," he says cheerily, continuing to examine the contents of the warehouse with his magic. "I should have some results for you soon, I hope."
Apartments. (DM Jim) Tuesday January 8th, 2008 8:53:17 PM
As some of the group search things downstair, in the boxes and crates, you find most of them are filled with supplies of all kind. Some of the crates hold weapons and armors of different sorts. The food items that you find are all of the nonperishable types and to be honest there are enough for at least three months. You also come across the quarterstaff that was being held by the doppleganger during your fight as well. There is nothing of magical nature other than the quarterstaff and the strength to it is moderate, with a mixed aura.
The other part of the group that is now upstairs in what appears to be an office, fall into talks as they search. Rabbitsfoot shakes his head. "If you are talking about the council...I am not sure about that either. Maybe they know more about this than I think or maybe only some of them are aware. Each person tries to gather power and help out themselves...though some are in it for the people." You can tell by his tone that he is not happy about the first and maybe that is why he stays on as Constable. The feeling is there that otherwise he might have quit long ago. "As for the runes...I am no mage of course." He chuckles as he glances to the mages in your group and smiles. "Still my guess is that part of them are for hiding this place...maybe for illusion. What else they might do..." He shrugs as he continues to rifle through the papers now that he is feeling safer about them now.
Outside, Arm pockets the items that he collected...some of them not being able to fit into anything but a sack or pack. He then calls to see if anyone can give him a hand with a few quick spells. The message spell is still working as he can get information from the group on what they are doing every once in awhile.
As the group goes through the office with a fine toothed comb, they find an assortment of papers that seem to be of importance. There is a rough map of the surrounding area, with the location of Plateau City upon it and a mark for something else a five days ride from the city. Several of the other papers are supply lists with other strange markings upon them, timetables and what could be troop lists or something of the like. At a quick glance you get the feeling that the doppleganger was just a henchman and not the true threat...but for some reason, there is a nagging feeling that the aboleth you met is not the source either.
Rabbitsfoot nods his head as he gathers up the papers and then smiles as he looks to the group. "If you don't mind...I would like to come over and make copies of these papers." As he listens to the group talk about helping and the lot he sighs. "I can use all the help that I can get and the council will not give it to me." As you travel back to the apartments, without Shadow or Gromley who decided to stay behind, he mulls over the questions. "I will have to get your help in ferreting out this source of danger to the city. I just don't know were else to turn or who I can trust right now. As for the PCDL...we will have to leave them alone for now." Glancing to each of you in turn you get the sense that he is scared. "I believe that something worse is looking to happen."
Back at the apartments, the group falls into getting things set up. Food is ordered and drink, both strong and otherwise. A nice pot of tea is also brewed in short order for those that are in need of it's soothing effects. The papers are spread out upon the biggest table and the puzzle begins to be unraveled??

Mira will use some of her plain paper to copy the map over. "Edmund?" she will call, "can you give me a hand with this? I don't think I've got the placement of the landmarks quite right."
The sorcerer remembers that Conner is from outside the city. Gesturing for the tatooed fighter to join her at the table, she shows him the map. "Does anything here look familiar to you?" she asks.

Edmund has a look at the map himself (INT check 25) and makes a few corrections to Mira's original copy.
"There," he says, "I think that might help a bit. Though I'm not entirely sure I understand where this is pointing at."
Edmund is not from Plateau City, but rather from the Contested Kingdoms. The examination of the map should help to find any landmarks familiar to him (INT check 18).
Edmund studies quite a bit, hard at work on some special project of his own. Occasionally, he can be seen dragging piece of firewood off. Sometimes he doesn't bring them back. Sometimes he can be seen dumping little woodchips into the waste, and occasionally Edmund returns with several frogs and rats, which he is obliged to release outside the city.
Whatever he is working on, he appears quite tired at meals, and is far less talkative than usual. "Bit busy... studies..." he mumbles, if questioned. "New theory... difficult..."

(( OOC: Although I haven't been with you long, Bob and Carla, I will miss you both! Best of luck!))
Kirsten will look over the map, and whatever other documents they had found along with the others, she looks for anything that might stick out to her as strange.
At the same time, she does what she can to aid in the healing and recovery of her companions.
Time to rest and plan. (DM Jim) Wednesday January 9th, 2008 10:50:38 PM
As Mira goes over the map and then starts to make a copy of the one that is available, the rest of the group seat themselves and begin their own things. Both Conner and Edmund make a few suttle changes to the map as they try to figure out any of the landmarks that they might know.
Thar makes it his duty to move about the group and generally pass around what aid he can so that everyone will heal better with a nights sleep.
At the same time, Kadaz glances over the map and notes that it is only a rough outline of the location of the city. There is also a general layout of the different plateaus themselves but nothing concrete about the city itself. There are a few odd bits and pieces in the other papers that mention a few names...but nothing more than what you already know. The one thing that is a surprise though is that in a bunch of papers is a small leather bound book.
Back at the warehouse area, Shadow finds noone showing up that looks suspicious. There are a number of people interested in what went on here and there is the arrival of the priests that go about healing...and dealing with the dead. His sharp eyes do at one point notice a man or at least what you think is a man, in the shadows looking to the warehouse that you fought the doppleganger in. It is hard to tell much as the figure is dressed in black full-plate armor that covers him from head to toe.
It is easy to tell from what little bit you know about the surrounding area of Plateau City that whatever is marked on the map is a good five days travel if you travel straight through the land. Though this will cause you to have to traverse one of the plateaus to get to the next level. It is Rabbitsfoot that finally shakes his head and snorts. "There is nothing in that location...it is nothing but open plateau with nothing around it. There are not even any trees or anything else there." He seems puzzled and a little aggrivated with all the new questions that seem to be poping up.

Shadow notes the man in black plate, but is really in no position to accost or pursue th eman. He will wait a little while longer and then head back to the apartment. He is in dark thoughts as he returns. 'What have we gotten into' Shadow thinks to himself.
Once back at the apartment, Shadow sas, "Well, there was little to go on at the warehouse at least from observing it after you all left. There was one man in alll black plate mail, but I did not get more of a look at him."
Thar ail Baerer Thursday January 10th, 2008 2:45:34 PM
Thar looks at the gathered evidence and makes two remarks. First, he comments "You know, that's odd that the doppleganger would mark a certain spot on a map that is empty, don't you think? It might be worth checking out anyway, and we could rest up as we travel. We need to take a few days to heal up, and can do that while we're traveling, at least for the first few days. I'm game to check it out, but I'm also open to whatever the group decides."
Looking at the book, he'll cast detect magic on it and if it isn't magic, he'll open it and then say to Ed and Mira "What do you all think about our little book here? I can't read a lot of different langauges, and you two may be more apt in looking through it."
Edmund Thursday January 10th, 2008 4:05:11 PM

The fighter has little interest in the book. If none of the others can read it, there is little hope that he will make sense of it. Late night. (DM Jim) Thursday January 10th, 2008 10:50:44 PM
Shadow comes back with news from the warehouse district. He tells of a figure in full black armor that seemed to be watching the warehouse, but made no move to investigate further.
Arm and Kirsten move to gather up the loot and then move to see the Catacombs. They will need to get the stuff they found identified and then see what they maybe wanting to keep.
While all this is going on, Rabbitsfoot has said his goodbyes and takes his copy of the map with him. He lets the group know that he will be looking in on them again before they take off. His plans are to see what he can find out without giving away his own hand.
The book leads to a couple of clues that are of some mild interest. There are a number of pages torn from the front of the book, as you can see what is left of those pages near the spine. The book is a continued list of names, though it is short and some of the names do not even make sense to you. It seems that maybe not all the names in the book are from Plateau City. There are also a list of goods that have been moving in and out of the city for the past two months. Most of this are edible goods but at least a third of it are weapons and armor. There is no mention of anything that would help you with the rough map though and otherwise the book is not very useful. One point does mention something about generals and invasion...but a lot of the writing is ramblings and it does not stick to one point for very long.
The map still does not give over any other clues to those that are looking it over. The spot marked on the map is out in the middle of open area with no cities, villages or other settlements around it. A true mystery.

Arm Friday January 11th, 2008 6:04:40 AM

Even though it may appear that there is nothing there, SOMEONE has an interest in it, and I think so should we. Also, if there IS a covert plot to attack the city, would you really put up signs saying, "this way to secret evil base"?"
OOC: I just realized that I should have put this in yesterday's post..the best of luck to you as well, Bob..you will be missed also! :D
OOC again: It seems that there is a backup again in the Catacombs, so I don't know how long it will take to identify the items.

Mira removes her glasses and rubs her eyes until she sees bright sparks behind her closed eyelids. "I, for one, would enjoy a little time away from the city," she says. "The city officials don't seem to give us much hope that the place on Helm's Way will be ours in the near future, and the city is in such disarray. I just don't know what we can do here..."
The sorcerer lets her voice trail away.

Later, when they are alone, Mira approaches Arm. "There is something I'd like you to have," she says. Then, reaching her arms around the bard she lets fall something she holds in her hands. (Cloak of Charisma +4 p. 253 DMG) Mira steps back, and admires the garment, and the man who wears it.
Edmund Friday January 11th, 2008 11:57:40 PM

Winding down. (DM Jim) Saturday January 12th, 2008 5:43:53 PM
With a few more discussions of the map, the house being a new home, city official idiots and the man in black...things are starting to quiet down.
Fatigue is starting to wear on everyone with the excitement and adrenaline becoming less infused in your bodies. Still Shadow takes off to keep an eye out on the warehouse and the man in black.
Mira gets Arm off to the side and alone so that she can have a talk with him. She had taken a minute earlier to slip to her own room and found a note for her had been delivered. It seems that a friend of her family has tracked her down and left her ownership of a small pastry shop in Hook City. The man had no children of his own and left his only piece of valuable property to the sweet little girl that he knew from a long time ago.
As things break up, Edmund quickly finds a spot in one of the steaming hot baths...to soak for at least a month.

Shadow finds that the man in black armor is no longer there and after spending the better part of the night and next morning there, he returns to the apartments.
As the stuff they found on the doppleganger druid is discussed, there is a knock at the door. When it is answered there is a soldier standing at the door with Constable Rabbitsfoot beside him.
The soldier slams his hand to his chest and holds out a map case to the person that opened the door. "I have this for one Conner Baelson and the papers inside will explain everything." Snapping another smart fist to the chest he turns and leaves. Rabbitsfoot smile as he steps up to the now open door and shrugs his shoulders. "Good to see you still in town." Mira proceeds to explain how she was essentially a foundling, discovered by a riversweeper, amongst the detritus of the Neverending River. How she doesn't know her parents, and how her adoptive father was the only 'family' she had known. "I don't know who this mysterious benefactor is, nor if I even have it in me to make a go of this business," she says, "regardless, I feel it is something I must investigate, and investigate...alone." "I shall stay a few days yet, to settle some of my affairs here, and make travel arrangments" she continues, her eyes turning somewhat glassy with unshed tears, "besides, I want one last dinner at Sampsons before I go."
Conner Tuesday January 15th, 2008 7:41:49 PM
The fighter returns the soldier's salute and accepts the papers. He returns to the chair by the table, opens the map case and sees the familiar letterhead and fighting eagle that symbolizes New Ellenea's army.
"Five days" he mutters. "Five days and I'm to be a Captain" he announces with growing excitement. "I once made sergeant, but lost my bands first time I bucked the squad leader" he reminisces aloud, recalling the day the two embossed bracers that signified his rank were taken from him.
"I don't know what's brewing. Perhaps it's as constable Rabbitsfoot says, there's more to all of this than suspected. As much as I have enjoyed our friendship, I cannot refuse."
Conner leaves the parchment on the table and heads to his room where the footlocker with his belongings waits.
Arm Wednesday January 16th, 2008 6:10:06 AM
Despite his best efforts, Arm cannot hide the steely glint in his eyes when Mira refuses his request, "How DARE she just up and leave without me? Perhaps she never cared as much as she said in the first place," he thinks.
Disengaging his hands from hers, he says to her, "Very well..you do what you must, and so shall I.". When the news comes of Conner's marching orders, he throws his hands up in disgust, "Wonderful..just wonderful..When we need people the most, they up and leave.". He breathes deeply and says, "Well, I'll take this necklace of natural armor, and the rest of you can decide what to do with the rest. If I owe anything to the pot, let me know and perhaps," he continues with a sidelong glance at Mira, "I'll sell this cloak to make up for it. If anyone cares to find me, I'll be at Samsons.". He then leaves the apartment for the pub and doesn't bother to close the door behind him. Once there, he orders several pints of mead and ruminates about the future of the order, ESPECIALLY the fact that their spellcasting backup is being entrusted to Edmund, something that he doesn't relish.
OOC: I can't get into that site to check the stats of the necklace, so I'll look in B&N this weekend at a DMG to get them :)
Kadaz Wednesday January 16th, 2008 6:44:50 AM
Kadaz tries to comfort his friend Arm. "Duty calls all of us. Mira feels she must do this on her own. She did not say she will never come back. Please, part on good terms."
Kadaz heads over to Sampsons to rent a private room and arrange for way more food and drink than they could possible need.
Thar ail Baerer Wednesday January 16th, 2008 9:23:04 AM
Sad that yet another member will be leaving the group but glad that Conner has a chance at a dream, Thar shakes his hand and thanks him for his friendship. "I wish you luck in your new life and we'll miss you."
"Kadaz, do you want to go with me to the Catacombs and trade the rest of the items in for cash?"
He'll join Arm at Sampsons and have a few drinks, trying to remember the fun times the group enjoyed in the past.
(OOC = Here's the stats for the amulet:http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#amuletofNaturalArmor

Thar (2nd post) Wednesday January 16th, 2008 9:24:55 AM
(OOC DM Jim = Are we sure that it is a necklace and not an amulet? I've never heard of a necklace of natural armor. Is it from the Magic Item Compendium or other place?)
Edmund Wednesday January 16th, 2008 11:19:13 AM
With stiff, mechanical movements, Edmund takes the scroll case from Mira without saying a word. The near-simultaneous announcement of the departure of Conner and Mira has left him with a rather unfocused gaze. He sits down in his chair with a bump, staring at whatever or whomever happens to be in front of him.
"Scroll case..." Edmund repeats after Mira has finished speaking. "Yes. Of course. Happy to." He shakes the chase a bit, causing the scrolls inside to rattle. "All there, then. Promotion to Captain. Shoppes to run. Couldn't be helped. Quite understandable. Must be done..."
Edmund trails off, shaking the scroll case again with a quiet rattle. After a moment, he stands up stiffly and looks around the room, but not at any of the people there. "Think I'll go have a bath," he says to no one in particular.
As if in a daze, he heads out to do this, taking the scroll case with him as he goes.
Shadow Wednesday January 16th, 2008 12:14:31 PM
Upset with himself for leaving the warehouse and losing the opportunity to follow the man in black he reluctantly returns to the apartment. He is saddened to hear not only is Mira departing but so is Conner. He is happy for them but is very disturbed to learn that he has lost some close companions.
He will take the slippers, "Mira, are you sure, you might find use of these?" He will take them if she is sure. He really is saddened to lose such a good companion.
Turning to Conner, "I know you will be a great captain, but you will be missed." With that he will go to his room for some needed rest.
DM Jim Wednesday January 16th, 2008 6:25:20 PM
This will be replaced with my DM post later tonight.
I wanted to let you know that it should have been a Amulet of Natural Armor and not a necklace. I had to kind of hurry on the treasure as it was not written out when I took over the module and I was kind of going from memory.
Kirsten Wednesday January 16th, 2008 7:05:09 PM
Upon hearing that two of her companions are leaving and at such a miserable time as this, Kirsten can only shake her head subtly in dismay. She winces at Arm's outburst, and looks a little helpless when Edmund runs off to hide in a bath.
Though having not been with them long, she bids farewell to both of her companions. She wishes Conner the best of luck as a captain, and expresses her hopes that Mira does well in her latest endeavor.
Samsons. (DM Jim) Wednesday January 16th, 2008 7:59:19 PM
Mira feels a need to leave a few small gifts for her friends and show that she will miss them. As she passes out some of her own items to the group she is suddenly accosted by Arm, as he wants to retire with her. As the talk there are some congratulations from the others who try not to pay too much attention.
Conner is floored by the news that he gets in some ways. He had lost his rank some time ago and now he was being given an opportunity to go back to the army...with an increase in rank. His congratulations are also given from those in the group.
There are a few that are so floored by the news that they have to go and find things to do. Edmund retires for a bath, with the scroll case in hand...seemingly forgotten. Arm takes off to Samsons to drink a little and try to get a grasp on his feelings...feeling betrayed. Kadaz goes to comfort his friend and to see into a private room for the group to hold a party.
Thar enlists the help of Kadaz to go to the Catacombs and sell of the items they have, but finds the dwarf is gone to see about other things right now. He plans to meet up with Arm there later and have a few drinks, maybe helping his friend find his true feelings.
A very tired Shadow gives his own congratulations and worries about losing the man in black armor. Still he is too tired to worry too much and moves to his room for some much needed rest.
Kirsten on the other hand is not sure were to go now. There are several of her new friends that could use a friendly shoulder to cry on or just someone to talk to...maybe.
Rabbitsfoot watches as the place seems to fall apart and then nods his head. He moves over to Kirsten as she is one of the few left and gets her attention. "I will be bringing by a friend in a few days...he has something to tell and ask the Mithril Order about...something that should interest you." He says no more as he moves to leave and let the group deal with things in their own way and time.
The owner of Samsons listens to Kadaz and nods his head. "Your group does a lot of business for me and I will get the larger of my rooms ready for your party. You want that I should have my chefs cater it for you? Anything special that you would like to have served?" He has gotten the idea that a couple of the group are leaving and he wants to give them a grand time. The group has always been good customers and he cannot fault them for their luck.
Conner Wednesday January 16th, 2008 9:10:28 PM
Conner thanks his friends for their congratulations. "Hope they aren't lookin' for one of them fancy pants officers with a horse...not much for horses" he trails off. "Still, a squad to lead. I hope I'll have a scout with skills equal to yours Shadow, and a second with your skill in battle, Kadaz."
When talk turns to treasure, Conner shakes his head. "I'll take naught" he declares. "You'll need this to provision yourselves and any new members of the order."
Mira Wednesday January 16th, 2008 10:11:27 PM
The sorcerer trails Arm to the door, but doesn't follow him out. Instead, she returns to the room they shared, and spends some time contemplating her next move, as she readies her gear, and packs most of her worldly possesions in her HHHaversack.
Setting her gear in a corner of the room, she tidies herself up, and gets ready for the party at Sampsons. She hopes the bard will accept her decision, and that their last night together will be memorable, if bittersweet.
"Come, Kirsten," she calls as she gets ready to leave the apartment for the tavern, "lets go party!"
Arm Thursday January 17th, 2008 6:07:22 AM
Through eyes that have already be glazed by mead, Arm squints at his friend and says, "Why, Kadaz, why? Why is it that everyone I care about is taken from me prematurely? First my parents, then...(for some strange reason he cannot remember the name of the gorgeous redheaded bard that perished during the Fae troubles) and now Mira..I don't know if I can EVER care again for someone. Perhaps it is time that I strike out on my own, as it seems to be my destiny anyway.".
Kadaz Thursday January 17th, 2008 6:28:12 AM
At the party Kadaz sits down by Arm. "I don't know the answer to your questions. People come and go, that's the nature of people. But the rest of us are here for you. And we'd be worse off without you." Kadaz drinks with Arm, trying to help him through this.
Shadow Thursday January 17th, 2008 7:44:51 AM
Shadow retires to his room and is fast asleep from his lack of sleep over the past couple of days. His dreams are of the doppleganger, the large mouth beasts, and then the man in black. He wakes in a moment of panic hoping that the repeat of stuff was only a dream. He has not been sure of his dreams since the Fae King caused so many problems. He realizes that sleep will not be soon in coming, so he gets dressed and will check out the apartment. He finds everyone gone and expects them to be at Sampsons. He will head over there. (OOC: not sure time frame so did not post anything at Sampsons)
Thar ail Baerer Thursday January 17th, 2008 10:33:10 AM
When he reaches Sampsons, Thar orders a light meal and some cider. Seeing his friends, he greats Arm and Kadaz. Sitting silently, he eats and listens to their conversations. If he overhears Arm's comments, he'll reiterate what Kadaz said and add "Yes, we are all here for you and I know its tough to lose people you love. It's OK to grieve during these hard moments and try remember the good times. You're not alone and we'll help you through this."
Seeing that Arm is quickly getting inebriated and won't be a likely candidate to go with him to sell the goods, Thar says to Kadaz "My friend, I'll take the goods over to the Catacombs and sell the ones no one has claimed. If Shadow or Edmund arrive before I leave, I'll ask them to accompany me."
(OOC = DM Jim = I'm not sure how you want us to handle the treasure. We have the list and do you want me to use 90% of DMG values? Or just take them to the Catacombs and have them quote me the value for a selling price?)
Here's what I have for goods, including what people have claimed. Please let me know what you would like to claim.
ring of protection +3 (Shadow or Arm?) ring of force shield Amulet of natural armor +3 (Arm claimed?) hide +2, wildshape dagger of venom glove of storing small totem of a bat(figurine of wondrous power, raven) boots of speed (Shadow?) staff +1/+1 of fire(10 charges) Unknown Scroll case
Arm spent 1000 to ID items. Thar, Edmund = Take the cash Kadaz? Kirsten? Arm = Either amulet or ring +3 Shadow = Either ring +3 or boots
Kadaz (2nd post) Thursday January 17th, 2008 4:48:43 PM
"I would prefer to get the gold for my share of the items. I need it to join an organization."
Kirsten Thursday January 17th, 2008 8:00:02 PM
Kirsten declines any share of the loot, wanting only the money as no doubt she is saving for... something.
The paladin moves to trot after Mira as she heads to Sampson's, she shifts somewhat, wanting to offer Mira comfort but truly not know what to say.
"You will be missed, Mira," she murmurs quietly to the sorcerer as they walk to the tavern.
Relax. (DM Jim) Thursday January 17th, 2008 8:34:59 PM
As the group takes the time to relax and feel sorry for themselves for the parting of friends and loves...the owner of Samsons is getting things rounded around for a party.
With the group getting around to finishing up their work with the loot and just enjoying the freedom of no danger...life is acceptable...but not great.
The owner of Samsons comes to find Kadaz seated at the bar with Arm and smiles. "I should be able to have the place set up and ready for you by tomorrow...is that good?" He waits to see what the dwarf has to say as he glances to Arm, feeling sorry for the man as he has an idea what is wrong. "Anything special you want on the menu or should I ask the others as well?" He is not sure if the party is a surprise or not so he does not want to let the ale out.
[Like normal. Take all loot business to the Catacombs and deal with it there. I don't mind working with mundane items but do not want to step on the toes of the Catacombs Staff.]
Conner Thursday January 17th, 2008 9:50:15 PM
The newly appointed Captain takes some time to organize his belongings. He digs down to the bottom of his foot locker and removes a carefully folded shirt and heavy tunic. The shirt's yellow sleeves with bright red piping are the colors of the northern brigades and barely fit over his massive biceps. The tunic is reddish brown, with heavy leather straps that hang below his darkened breastplate. It is only now that many will finally recognize the same color scheme in the design tattooed across Conner's temple.
Satisfied that his uniform, or at least the basic parts of his uniform still fit, Conner makes a mental note to purchase a spare field uniform and, for the first time in his own career, a dress uniform that will be required for special ceremonies and parties.
Mira Thursday January 17th, 2008 11:39:05 PM
Mira gives Kirsten a reassuring squeeze. "You'll have to keep them in line you know," she says with a wink, "being the only woman...and a paladin at that!"
When she arrives at the tavern, she locates the group. She sits at the table on the opposite side from Arm, and from time to time tries to catch his gaze. The sorcerer hopes she can read acceptance and forgiveness in his eyes. Otherwise she talks with her friends, and speculates about who is at the bottom of their troubles.
If/when Edmund arrives, she will have a quiet word with the magiker. She will give him a small sheet of parchment with the address of the pastry shop in Hook City (as per the letter she recieved) and ask him to write to her from time to time, and let her know how the group is doing.
Arm Friday January 18th, 2008 6:06:00 AM
By now Arm is quite 'into his cups' as it were, as is clearly seen when he attempts to slap both Kadaz and Thar on their backs and nearly falls over backwards in his chair doing so. With much effort, he recovers and slurs, "youuss aaree both guuud friemds". He then manages to raise an arm and shouts, "Morrre meeeed!" before he slumps back into his chair. When Mira arrives, it is not certain whether he doesn't notice her or chooses not to.
OOC: Thar, I WILL take the amulet +3. :) As I said before, if I owe anything back to the pot, let me know and I'll compensate.
Shadow Friday January 18th, 2008 7:14:08 AM
Shadow will join the group at Sampsons and he will actually join in the drinking. He is celebrating the new roles the two members have, but is also drinking because he will miss the two members. "Even though we will miss you tremendously, but are happy for your new roles in life." Shadow tries to remember the good times and focus on the positives.
He will keep an eye on Arm to make sure that he does not drink too much.
(OOC: Depending on how much both the ring and the boots are Shadow might take both. If they are way too much he will only take the ring. He does have the money to kick in however much he would be short. Just let me know.)
Thar ail Baerer Friday January 18th, 2008 2:54:25 PM
Thar will continue eating and drinking with the group, welcoming Kirsten, Shadow and Mira when they join. After a amoment, a sad look crosses his face, as he realizes this will be one of their last get-together's as a group. He does comfort himself slightly by remembering that Mira and Conner will be facing new and exciting changes in their lives and change is simply a fact of life.
He'll continue comforting Arm and also try to avoid getting knocked off the chair by his inebriated friend.
He wonders where Edmund and Conner are, wishing that they'd join the group one last time.
(OOC =OK, I'll go to the Catacombs with the following info and will be back with values, etc.
Arm = did they not identify what the scroll was at the Catacombs? I wasn't sure what the status was with that.
Here's the latest status: ring of protection +3 (Shadow) ring of force shield (SELL) Amulet of natural armor +3 (Arm) hide +2, wildshape (SELL) dagger of venom (SELL) glove of storing (SELL) small totem of a bat(figurine of wondrous power, raven) (SELL) boots of speed (maybe Shadow?) staff +1/+1 of fire(10 charges) (SELL) Unknown Scroll case (IDENTIFY?)
Arm spent 1000 to ID items. Thar, Edmund, Kadaz, Kirsten = Take the cash
Conner Friday January 18th, 2008 6:30:15 PM
Satisfied that his gear is in order, and that he knows what is needed before he reports for duty, Conner makes his way over to Sampsons to join in the revelries. One look at Arm tells him all he needs to know about how the poor blokes head will feel in the morning.
The fighter spots a serving girl across the room and signals for more ale to be brought to the table.
"Let's drink to the Mithril Order" he raises his glass and continues, "the finest band of adventurer's to be found. Let none doubt their resolve and let all rejoice in their mission. To harmony among the races!" With his last comment he drains the mug of ale in a single swallow.
Kadaz Friday January 18th, 2008 8:30:34 PM
At the bar Kadaz tries to keep Arm upright. He whispers to Thar "I'm glad I won't have his hangover tomorrow morning."
Kadaz answers the owner's questions about the party the next day. "This is a going away party for Mira and Conner. Their duty calls them elsewhere. We'd like the food you normally serve; we've been coming here long enough that you know what we like. And pass the word among the regulars that if they'd like to drop in to say goodbye with a toast, the Mithril Order would appreciate it. So you'd better have a good amount of wine and ale in the room.
He glances over at Arm, who is having trouble sitting on the stool. "And Arm here, he'll probably drink a keg all by himself. He could have been a dwarf" Kadaz says, half in admiration.
A party. (DM Jim) Friday January 18th, 2008 10:27:52 PM
The proprieter of Samsons nods his head as he starts to go over a menu in his head that he will give to the cooks. There is already a smile upon his face as he tries to come up with something that will appeal to each person indivicually.
He passes out a number of ales to the Mithril Order and to other patrons and then slips back into the kitchen. Soon he is back to stand near Kadaz, on the other side of the bar. "I got it all set up and the party will be tomorrow." Glancing around he smiles as a lot of the patrons are already talking about the party and how they hope that those leaving will have a happy and full life.
In fact a few of the patrons come over to congratulate Mira and Conner in turn. There are offers to buy drinks from other patrons and soon it is a roaring party...before the party.
Edmund Sunday January 20th, 2008 1:07:39 PM
Arriving last of all, Edmund shows up dressed to the nines--or at least in the fashion which the politicians in the Windbourne Hills are familiar with. In truth, he looks a bit comical. At least he no longer looks dazed.
He stop on his way towards the other members of the Order to place a request for a steak and kidney pie and a bottle of port. Once there, he shakes Conner's hand and congratulates him on his promotion. "Your superiors couldn't have made a better choice, my good man! Maybe you'll be able to impart some sense into them and help keep this fair city all the safer!"
He also proffers a hand to Mira with a smile. "But what are we going to do without our own[/]i Captain?" he asks wryly. Then, with a wink he adds, "I suppose I'll have to run the show now--couldn't be anyone but me!"
Then, Edmund pulls something out of his waistcoat pocket: a small metal circle on a chain. "It's a watch," he says, "Tells the time of day, dead useful, if you know what time of day it is, or what they are. Must admit, I haven't figured it out yet. Go on! Maybe it'll tell you when it is time to come back."
He presses it into Mira's hand and will brook no refusal on her part. Once she has accepted it, Edmund will hurl himself into one of the available chairs with an enormous clatter, and, whilst rocking back and forth on it, will cast [i]Dancing Lights in several places over the Mithril Order's tables and chairs. A few pieces of bunting from Edmund's pocket get the Prestidigitation treatment, allowing them to fly around above the table in a festive manner.
"Now that's more like it," Edmund declares. "Where's that port!?"
Thar Sunday January 20th, 2008 1:50:44 PM
Thar will continue eating and drinking, warming Ed and Conner when they arrive. He'll wistfully recall stories from earlier in their group's time and laugh as the recount each other's antics.
To Mira and Conner, he adds "I will miss you both and will keep you in my prayers constantly. If you ever need anything, you know where to look."
Kadaz Sunday January 20th, 2008 5:12:39 PM
This is a party, but it's a going away party. Kadaz is not quite as happy as many of the others, but not as sad as some. He sits back in his chair, pets Birdie, and thinks about all of the opponents the Mithril Order has vanquished, starting with their first barfight at the Golden Griffon Tavern, Kethlorn's death, their trips out of Plateau City, the Fey, shrinking, and everything else.
Good times.
Arm Monday January 21st, 2008 10:22:02 AM
Arm grabs for the ale and manages to actually snag one on the third try. Sloshing at least half again what he manages to consume, he raises his voice again and yells, "Heresh to Connerrrr, may he kill all who oppozzzz himmmm!" before he finally passes out face first on the bar, his somewhat prominent nose the only thing that prevents him from drowning in the puddle that he created.
OOC: Thar, the Catacombs were unable to identify what the scroll was, so should we consider it priceless? Then again, they said the CASE was magical. I'm not sure if anyone has looked inside to see what it contains. ;)
Shadow Monday January 21st, 2008 3:20:47 PM
Shadow, almost indulges in the festivities, but seeing that many of his companions are getting a little deep into the mugs, he slows down. He would like to make sure everyone makes it back safely to the apartment.
He is in a fairly dark mood since he cannot seem to get past the fact that two of his companions are leaving him. This is as close to a family as he has had since his mother died. The Guild, however much they brought him up was never the close nit group this group has become.
Mira Monday January 21st, 2008 6:47:28 PM
The sorcerer picks at her food, concern written on her face over how Arm is taking the news of her pending departure. When he finally passes from consciousness, she is a little relieved. At least he didn't pick any fights with any patrons of Sampson's.
She accepts Edmund's gift. Turning it this way and that, she notices two or the needle like arms seem to move...one quickly, one more slowly, but the third one doesn't appear to move at all. I hope it's not broken. She thinks to herself, and then figures that once she arrives in Hook City she'll see if there are any gnomes about, who might explain how the device works.
Sorry no post. (DM JimW) Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 2:29:40 AM
I got a little sidetracked working with some things to get the new people into the game. Not a good excuse but it is what happened.
Will get one though tomorrow that will move things along for the party and maybe get the new people introduced.
Arm d20+2=22 Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 5:59:07 AM
Despite the alcohol-induced slumber, Arm's sleep is troubled, filled with visions of his helplessness while his friends are being ripped from him. Once or twice he jerks spasmodically in his sleep, but manages to remain in place on the barstool (reflex=22, nat. 20..+6 base -4 sleeping).
Kadaz Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 6:47:08 AM
Kadaz walks over and sits down with Mira. "I am very sad to see you go. We've had a lot of good times, and some bad ones. If you want to come back you have will always have a home here in Plateau City as long as the Mitril Order exists. And I promise to look out for Arm."
Shadow Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 7:07:07 AM
Shadow notices that Arm has fallen asleep where he sits, "I think we should head back to the apartment. We have a party tomorrow to see our comrades off." He will then help Arm up and get him back to the apartment.
Conner Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 7:41:31 AM
Conner moves to help Shadow move his jilted friend back to the apartment. "C'mon. I'll give you a hand" he offers.
Thar Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 10:06:37 AM
Thar finishes his meal with a sad expression, since it is their last meal as a combined group. He gives Mira a hug goodbye and thanks her for the companionship she's given the party. He shakes Conner's hand and wishes him well in his new life.
After seeing his friends off to the apartment, Thar heads over to the Catacombs and tries to finish his transaction.
Kirsten Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 11:52:56 AM
She is relatively quiet throughout the celebrations, having not known Conner and Mira long it is hard for her to share in the others' grief. However, Kirsten is rather sad to see them go and expresses this very clearly.
She'll eat and drink with the others (though she doesn't drink much), and will afterward head back to the apartment with them.
(OOC - sorry for lack of posting the last few days, been sick in bed with the flu @_@ )
Edmund Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 11:54:23 AM
Edmund manages to distract himself from the impending departure of Mira and Conner by enjoying a steak and kidney pie. He goes through an entire bottle of port in the process, and becomes extremely ebullient as a result.
"FANTASTIC shtuff, this!" he exclaims, throwing his hands into the air and nearly taking leave of his chair in the process. "Besht Steak and Pie Kidneys I've ever, ever, ever had!" Swivelling around, he fixes his gaze on Kadaz--or at least, he tries to fix his gaze on Kadaz, but Kadaz seems to be drifting lazily about along with the entire room. "Shee here," declares Edmund. "Shtop that this inshtant! Allllll of you! Shtop that. Nooooo dancing. No! None ovvit!"
"Kadaz, Kadaz," Edmund says. "You simply musht try this pie. AMAZING stuff, full shtop!" Then, Edmund tilts the remainder of his drink back and thrusts his cup into the air. "More port!" he exclaims, before his chair tilts back and falls over with an enormous crash, leaving the Wizard lying on ground amidst the rubble.
Of course, any fear that Edmund may be injured quickly turns to mirth, for he has fallen asleep on the spot, snoring amongst the wreckage of his chair and cup.
The arrivals and the farewells. (DM JimW) Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 9:02:46 PM
With things starting to wrap up in Sampsons, those that are still on their legs help the others. Everyone returns to the apartments and beds are found rather quickly with the stuff that is to go on in the morn.
The night is restful for some, troubled for others and just like any other for some. Morning breaks to a beautiful day with the sun shining and no worries...well not many.
A teenage boy of about sixteen arrives at the door by ten and knocks. He is delivering a message it seems with some enthusiasm. "The party will begin at noon and will last until the wee hours of the morning." The smile that splits his face tells you that he is as excited as anyone. He excuses himself and takes off back to Samsons and it is then that you realize you have seen the boy before...he is a runner for the owner.
The hours go by rather quick and the party is soon here. The inside of Samsons is lite up rather nice with floating globes of magical fire, banners are hanging almost everywhere and there are several tables of food set up. The food is so assorted that there are a number of things that you have never seen before and the owner is standing near the lead table, beaming. "I hope that it meets with your approval." He is delighted to be able to host this party and you can see a few tears on face.
Almost all the regulars are in attendance and everyone of them is dressed nicer than usual and they are cleaner as well. Many of them come to give congratulations, some again, to both Conner and Mira. Just as many give their feelings of sadness to the other members of the group that are losing comrades.
Of to the side you see Constable Rabbitsfoot and Gormley and they raise their mugs to the group. You notice that Rabbitsfoot have a couple of new people with him as well and he waves the group over. "I would like you to meet a couple of new people to the city." He eyes the group with a critical eye and then nods his head. "I hear that they need a place to stay and friends inside the town...I thought you might be able to help." A grin spreads across his face as he holds out his hand and then opens it...laying in his palm is a key. "That place that you were interested in...I made some arrangements." With that he excuses himself so that you can enjoy the party and get to know the new people.
[This is your introduction Robert and Jon Paul. You can interact with the group as you see fit. I did not give names or anything as that is a good way to start. :)]
Mira Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 11:52:30 PM
The green-eyed woman of medium height and build pushes the gold rimmed spectacles up to the ridge of her nose, and peers at the newcomers. Her dark brown hair is pulled back severely into a short tail at the back of her neck. A silver and jade pendant hangs from her neck by a silver chain. She wears ordinary adventuring clothes. The only unusual aspect of the woman's appearance is a spectacular belt about her waist. It is tooled and dyed with the images of entwined dragons all 'round, laced at the back, sides, and front where it comes to a point just under her rib cage. Several component pouches hang from this fanciful girdle.
"I am Mira, of the Mithril Order she says by way of introduction. Unfortunately, I have been called away, and must leave Plateau City shortly. I have recieved news of an inheritance from a relative of some sort in Hook City, and must go there to claim it...alone. The green eyes slide over to the half-elf bard, Arm, and then back to the newcomers.
The woman's look is a little whistful when Gormley reveals the key. "Looks like the group is getting new digs, too." Her gaze rests on the strangers once again, "the Mithril Order could use some new...friends."
The sorcerer stops talking, waiting to hear what her friends and these newcomers have to say.
Arm Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 6:10:54 AM
Arm awakes to the stabbing of daggers into his eyes. Much like a cat, he yowls in pain and quickly rolls away from the window, only to find that the room doesn't stop rolling when he does. Fighting to keep his innards where they belong, he lays there for a bit longer until he is able to rise.
Trailing behind the rest, his mood still foul, he enters Samson's yet again, this time deciding to stick to tea instead of other libations. He groans audibly when he sees Rabbitsfoot wave them over. Struggling to rise, the tall bard stands near the rear of the group and sneers when he hears Mira's comment, "I am Armathen Ebano, but my...friends...call me Arm. Yes it is true that we are losing some of our group, some good friends, some perhaps not as much. (take THAT, Mira, he thinks to himself) Therefore, we are in need of some new members of the Order. Pray tell, what is it that YOU do?".
Julian Roscoe Holle Pipewood Trufflefinder Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 6:36:45 AM
"Ah, it is bit like returning to a long lost home of sorts. I used to work here, in Sampsons, Constable Rabbitsfoot," says the halfling on the left. He stands a little taller than the constable you know, is noticeably more hirsute. "I was just a kitchen hand, scrubbing post mostly, on a upturned box by the sinks through those doors." "Er, Hi!" he beams at those to whom he is being introduced to, "I am Julian Roscoe Holle Pipewood Trufflefinder." He offers his hand to the group generally. "You can call me Jules, or Badger, if you want to. You can buy me a drink if you really, really want to. Two badgers sit by his feet, content to be with their master, beside a bulky pack with far too many items bound to it. "I could use a place to camp for the night, if'n you can suggest somewhere. I used to share a room with some soldiers in training, though I'm sure they've gra, gradu, finished with that by now and moved on. It'd be nice to secure these somewhere," he indicated his pack, not the badgers. Julian is wearing a three-piece green suit with an orange pinstripe, his vest is a delicate embroidery depicting a Sphinx standing proud in the desert, which highlights the pinstripes. At her feet lie several minotaurs. He has the aroma of one freshly shaved and bathed. His short spiky hair is black and liberally speckled with grey, and with his thick grey sideburns it all lends to give him the appearance of his pets - as seems to often be the way with owners and their pets.
"Mira, I am pleased to meet you. You must be an important bunch, what to have named your group and all. I've previously adventured with other halflings in and around Angel Springs - don't suppose you've ever been there? No, didn't think so. "I'm looking to continue adventuring, it beets scrubbing pots. I couldn't afford these," sweeping his arms from his chest down, "on that wage. You say you need new friends, and I gather this is a parting party. It may not be timely, and I know I am often a bit forward when I'm nervous, but I am pretty handy with a sword and getting info outta people. I try to stop oppression and protect those whose needs protecting. And my friend Podo here is a healer with a whole range of other skills to boot." He looks about with his bright brown eyes expectantly, with a big (nervous) grin on his face.
Julian Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 6:40:40 AM
Waving the fumes from his face, Julian offers a handshake up to "Arm, hello, pleased to meet you."
Kadaz Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 7:23:19 AM
As Kadaz enters Sampsons for the party he is amazed by the how the room looks. He goes up to the owner to express his appreciation. "You have greatly exceeded anything I could have thought of. Thank you very much for setting this up. I am sure we are going to enjoy this." He helps himself to a large plate of food, balances it on top of a mug of ale, and wanders the room, thanking folks for coming.
As Rabbitsfoot introduces new folks Kadaz wanders over to hear what is said. He looks at Julian, then the badgers and minotaurs (!) at the halfling's feet. He turns his head, catches Mira's eye, and raises an eyebrow. This should be interesting.
Kadaz is a dwarf fighter, normally loaded down with all of the armor and weapons you'd expect. Tonight, however, he is not wearing armor and his axe is leaning against the wall by the front door. His constant companion, Birdie, a small black dog, is playing with some children in a corner of the room. They're teasing him with small bits of food and he's pretending that he can't jump high enough to reach the tasty bits.
"Pleased to meet you" Kadaz says to Julian. "Do your small friends here have names also?"
After the introductions Kadaz moves over to console Arm. They've been friends for so long that he has to try something to improve the parting. "Look, she's leaving and probably feels as bad about it as you do. And you'll regret it always if you part mad and angry. Please, say goodby nicely. I believe you, and she, will feel much better in the long run if you can at least be civil tonight." Kadaz steps back to see if his small attempt at clearing the air works.
He also spends time with Conner, wishing him the best. "And don't forget to write. We want to hear how Captain Conner does in the army."
Overall, Kadaz enjoys himself greatly at the party, eating way too much, drinking too much, and just having a good time. After a bit he challenges Rabbitsfoot and Gormly to a limbo contest, and invites everyone to join in. It's good to be short!
Shadow Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 7:28:49 AM
Shadow tries to be in a better mood to send off his comrades this day. He will spend th emorning making sure hat there is nothing left by his friends (he would hate for them to not have all the possessions they will neeed in their new lives). He then gets ready for the party, wanting the day and evening of celebration to go well for his two departing companions.
When they get to Sampson's, Shadow is very impressed at what has been done to the place to help the group celebrate. He does look over at Arm and wonder how the day will be for his companion.
When Rabbitsfoot waves them over, Shadow is curious at who his companions are. When shows the key, Shadows eyes light up and he wonders just how many favors Rabbitsfoot had to call in to get that house released. Then his attention is drawn back as the introductions start to occur.
He waits to until it seems it is his turn and then says, "Welcome to or back to Plateau City, it is with a bit of a saddened heart that we welcome you but please do not hold that against this wonderful group. We are celebrating as best we can the departure of two of very close companions. I am known as Shadow and I have some tendency to hang out in them to gather information among other things. That talk can really wait until tomorrow for tonight we try and send off our two companions." Shadow is a short human with brown eyes and short dark hair.
Thar ail Baerer Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 9:17:02 AM
Finishing his transaction at the catacombs, Thar returns to the apartment. Hearing the exciting news about the upcoming party, Thar smiles broadly and excitedly changes into more respectable clothes.
He travels to Sampsons and his eyes light up at the beautiful scenery and decorations. To the owner, he says "You've done a wonderful job setting this up and we deeply appreciate it."
Once he greets his friends, he sees the newcomers and walks over and introduces himself to them. Thar is a young elf, wearing a mixture of clerical garments, a large wooden cross and woodsman clothes. He is a friendly sort and tries to have a good attitude towards most things.
"It is nice to meet you both and I echo my friends comments. If you need a place to stay, I'm sure we have a spare room or two that you can use at the apartment. The constable is a friend of ours and any friend of his..... Well, you know what I mean."
Crouching down, Thar also greets the badgers and playfully says hello. The ranger side of his persona appreciates young animals, especially ones known to be loyal and brave.
Edmund Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 11:30:07 AM
Edmund regards the halflings, and the badgers, with cautious distaste. Edmund isn't very fond of little people, and he isn't very fond of badgers either, for that matter.
A bit tired, and more than a bit hungry, and quite a bit headachey, Edmund greets the newcomers with an ornately verbose, stiff formality that he hasn't displayed for some time.
"Greetings and salutations," Edmund begins. Anyone familiar with him knows this is a portent of dire oratory to come. "It is Our good pleasure to make the acquaintence of such as you, and your fine accompaniment in the way of domesticated fauna." Edmund casts a critical eye over the badgers. "We of the Mithril Order are happy to extend you every hospitality at the direction of the town Constabulary, in whose debt--" Edmund nods pompously to Gormley and Rabbitsfoot, "--We have so often found ourselves."
Noting the key and the acquisition of their headquarters at long last, Edmund continues. "As Thar has most graciously offered you boardings and accomodations in Our centre of operations, I will not restate it, but rather, will express my hope that your presence will be felicitious, comfortable, and brief." Edmund adds the last word meaningfully, doing his best to succinctly convey his belief that halflings are up to no good at least half of the time.
Casting one last eye over the green three-piece ensemble which Julian has chosen to decorate himself with, Edmund sniffs and extends his hand rather haughtily. "Edmund Eustace Greenleaf II, of the Windbourne Hills Greenleafs, Orator and Wizard Extraordinare, formerly at-large, sometime saviour of Plateau City in addition to various and sundry other hamlets, villages, and passers-by, Lieutenant of the Navy, honourably discharged, C. M., Knight of the Shire, Assistant Sheriff to the Magistrate, vanquisher of vampires, liches, and other arcane evils, and..." he adds importantly, "...Acting Commander of the Mithril Order at your service."
Kirsten Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 12:57:43 PM
Kirsten wakes up early in order to see if she can be of any assistance to Mira and Conner as they get their things ready to leave. She will then leave with the others to head to Sampson's for the party.
At Edmund's treatment of the newcomers, the paladin nudges her childhood friend somewhat, muttering, "Oh, do be nice, Edmund."
Having forsaken her armor for more practical clothing today, the brown-haired, blue-eyed paladin approaches the newcomers and bows subtly. She's dressed simply enough, save for a fondness of light blue (her attempt to look nice for Conner and Mira's departure).
"It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Kirsten Rislyn, It seems the others have covered most of the formalities," she smiles warmly, offering her hand. "But I hope I can help to make you feel welcome."
After the introductions, she'll wander off to find herself some tea and treats.
Julian, making introductions (3rd post) Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 11:09:47 PM
"Edmund, you have more names than most halflings? I think I'll call you Eddy. Perhaps you are half-halfling? Or maybe a little further back, judging the height of you?" Julian fails to hide a mischievous grin at the mage.
"Kristen, very nice to meet you, too," Julian warmly shakes her hand. "I hope I can be of some help to you, and perhaps the rest of the Mithril Order," he says with a sideways glance at Eddy.
Conner Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 11:30:50 PM
The fighter enters Sampsons and acknowledges the warm greetings from the patrons and staff as well as his friends.
He wanders over towards Rabbitsfoot and the newcomers just in time to hear Edmund's officious welcome. "Nevermind him" he winks at the halflings. "He's like that all the time, nothing as important as a wizard, eh Edmund" He grabs the mage in a headlock, and gives a gentle squeeze, the small man's curly hair barely visible beneath the massive bicep. "Turned me into a newt once, he did! Best not to get on his bad side. Keep the bath water warm and the tea piping hot, and you just might save yourself from that embarassment". He lets Edmund free and offers his hand to Julian, "Conner's the name. Guess I won't be able to really make your aquaintance as I've been called back to service, but the Mithril Order's a solid outfit. You'll make good friends here!"
Good to hear. (DM Jim) Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 11:46:02 PM
The proprietor beam with pride and then moves off to attend to a few items that he is not happy with. He soon has a few additions to the tables and is more happy with the extra food and drinks.
As the group goes about their introductions, Rabbitsfoot and Gormley are having a good time as well. They have been able to help out the Mithril Order and that makes them feel better. It might have taken a little finesse, not to mention a few favors that needed to be called in...but the had thought it best. The Mithril Order was going to be the best thing for Plateau City and maybe could help them keep her safe.
The party is in full swing within twenty minutes and there is much dancing, drinking, visiting and telling of stories. Many of the stories are not totally true, but a lot of them are and it warms the hearts of the patrons to tell a lot of them.
The proprietor of Samsons does not let the party break up till the Mithril Order is ready to leave and then he blocks the way out. He has a mug in his hand and tears on his face. He raises the cup and glances to all those in attendance. "It has been my pleasure to host a party for a good group of people. They have two of their own moving onto new things, but we wish them well." With a smile just marred a little with sadness he takes a long drink from the cup he is holding. "May those that are leaving find their way back to us one day...for they shall be missed." With that he will drain the cup and then move off to the side for the group to leave. The patrons have all joined in the toast and many of them are filled with the same joy and sadness at the same time.
Arm Thursday January 24th, 2008 6:13:14 AM
Arm takes Julian's hand with a bit of trepidation, at first thinking, "Wonderful, another Edmund.". After he hears more of his story, though, he is strangely drawn to the newcomer, "He DOES seem more likeable," he muses to himself.
As he is admonished by Kadaz, he hands his head as if the weight of the Wold rests upon his shoulders, "You are wise beyond your years, my friend. I am just so VERY tired of losing those closest to me. If for no other reason than for your sake, I'll make the best of it.". He then moves to speak to Conner, as that will be the easier of the two goodbyes, "Farewell, my friend..you have been a good friend and a brave protector, and you will be missed by us all. If you're ever in the area, you'll always have a place to stay with us.".
He looks around for Mira, but doesn't seem to see her at the moment, so after thanking Samson profusely for his hospitality, he leaves with the rest. On the way back to the apartment, he thinks, "Samson has been so nice to us, and now we have to tell him we'll be leaving the apartment soon...MORE sadness to deal with.".
Shadow Thursday January 24th, 2008 7:21:10 AM
Shadows feelings cannot find a place to stay, he is one moment excited and then sad and even then happy. This party is a real let down as in releasing the worry and tension of the past couple of months. He worries about a couple of his cmpanions but hopes that they will be strong enough to make it past the grief.
He is moved by Sampsons well wishes and as he group leaves he wonders what will befall the group next. His mind already on what will need to be done to the new house to secure it.
Thar ail Baerer Thursday January 24th, 2008 9:51:57 AM
Watching the revelers around him, Thar smiles and enjoys the spectacle. He does take the time though to ask Julian more about his life and background, as well as learning more about the badgers. He also shares more of his life story and of course takes to time to inquire about their faith.
Kadaz Thursday January 24th, 2008 4:23:28 PM
Kadaz, winded after leading the conga line, joins in the last toast. He raises his cup, looks for Mira and Coonner, then drinks it to the dredges.
Afterwards he goes looking for the owner. "Thank you very much. This was wonderful. I wonder if you might do me one more favor. All of the left over food, could you arrange for it to be donated to the poor, in the name of Mira and Conner of the Mithril Order? Thanks very much. I will return tomorrow and settle accounts."
After leaving Kadaz walks with the others. They walk very slowly, looking at the neighborhoods, remembering who lives where, what they did when, and just enjoying each other's company.
Julian, Shark and Ledger, and Sallie. Thursday January 24th, 2008 6:39:24 PM
"Thar, let's grab a drink then. What do have, my shout. "My badgers, it's a bit embarrassing really. Shark here is very special to me, and helps me in so many ways. He came to me in the forest once, after my brothers had beaten me. They didn't think it was fair what I had been doing in Plateau City and wanted me to know about it. Anyway, I was laying there bleeding and unconscious and this young little badger came to me, muzzled me gently to wake me. I reckon it has something to do with a fight I had with a dire badger when I was young. Anyway, I have a close bond with badgers. "This other one, I call her Ledger, this is the embarrassing bit, she is Shark's girlfriend. She found us along the way to here as we forded a creek, and won't leave him alone." The two badgers lie all over each other at Julian's feet. "I don't know what I'll do with her in a fight. Shove her into my pack I suppose. Sallie will look after her as Shark and I fight. "Sallie, she's my dog, a rough-coated collie. I tied her up out the front. Thought she might be in the way in here, you see. She carries our gear most of the time. Good guard dog for the gear too." When Thar enquires about faith Julian quickly answers, "Domi. What a guy, hey. I want to be just like him, in my own way."
"What do I do?" addressing Arm's question, "Deep down, well, not that deep at all really, I still call myself a Barbarian. I tried being a fighter but really didn't like the brutal regime of being a soldier. I think the changes that I go through in a fight best makes me a Barbarian. Though I've undergone some formal training too. A beautiful sorceress, Selithe, taught me to read. And I've trained at the temple to become a Protector of Domi - though," with in a quiet voice to Kirsten, "don't let Eddy hear that I've used a title for myself, and a real one that I've earned at that."
Not entirely sure what is going on, or which was Conner and Mira - pints of Ale go a long way in a halfling - Julian drains his second pint as a toast to the two, wishing them all the best for whatever is going on.
Mira Thursday January 24th, 2008 7:11:55 PM
The sorcerer's eyes are glassy with unshed tears as she wishes her companions farewell. "I shall write as soon as I am settled. Perhaps, if all goes well, I can leave the business in capable hands and rejoin you all..." As she moves from companion to companion, she has a personal word for each. "Don't forget to check on the orphans at the manor from time to time. Give Kay and Buckle my love." There is a certain desperation in her tone as finally she asks them not to forget her.
The green eyed woman has trouble meeting the eyes of the bard, when she eventually finds him in the assembled group. Finally, she raises her eyes, then places a hand over the half-elf's heart. "Please," she says softly, "please forgive me."
******
When the farewells are finished, she shoulders her pack, and takes the big walking stick with the owl carving at the top, and makes her way to the nearest exit from the walled city.
Final farewells or till we meet again. (DM Jim) Thursday January 24th, 2008 11:26:56 PM
The party has ended and the group retires back to the apartments. Mira could leave tonight but she is not sure that she will have transportation so she waits till morning to leave.
As the morning is once again upon the group they find that they have new things to think about...new things to do. You also might remember that someone is holding onto a key...anyway those with less of a hangover.
Arm Friday January 25th, 2008 6:01:16 AM
As he listens to Julian's response, Arm thinks, "Hm...a halfling barbarian, now THAT's something you don't see every day. However, we can use another sword, so...". Looking around for a moment, he says to him, "Didn't you have a companion with you? I seem to remember Rabbitsfoot saying there were two of you.".
In the morning he finally faces the inevitable when Mira approaches him. Trying his best to smile, yet having it end up more of a grimace, the best he can offer to her is, "In time, perhaps I can forgive you, but not now. You have shown me great love, but you have also shown me the cruelness of the Wold as yet again someone I care for has been ripped from me...I don't know if I will EVER open up so freely to anyone again. Good luck to you.". With that he turns away from her to the business at hand.
To Thar he says, "So, you mentioned that the sale was completed at the Catacombs..do I owe the pot any gold?". While waiting for his response, he turns to Shadow and says, "Rabbitsfoot gave you the key to the new place, correct? I think the first thing we should do is check it out more thoroughly...OFFICIALLY this time.".
Shadow Friday January 25th, 2008 7:06:28 AM
"Yes, I have it right here." He produces the key. "I think we are gonna have a lot of work ahead of us to secure the new house. With those tunnels in the basement and I will need to find all of those hidden entrances." He is glad t see his companion starting too think about other things than the departure of their companions.
Thar ail Baerer Friday January 25th, 2008 2:24:23 PM
Listening to Julian's story about his new companions, Thar smiles and chuckles about the things that life sometimes brings us. After ruffling Sallie's fur and giving Shark and Ledger a snack, he'll stand up and continue his conversations with the group.
Once the group leaves after making it's final good-byes, he'll ask "Yes, we should check out new place out, but I'm still of a mind to check out that spot on the map. They both seem important and what does everyone thing our priority should be?"
(OOC = Not completed w/ the Catacombs yet, but put that in my post to explain my departure and return. I'll let you know the results when I'm done...)
Kadaz Friday January 25th, 2008 3:44:34 PM
Kadaz is up early to say goodby to Mira. "May Domi walk with with you where ever you go. Our thoughts will always be with you. And I'll be waiting for that letter."
As for their next action Kadaz councils patience. "It will take us a while to get to that spot on the map. We need to purchase supplies, transportation, and maybe arrange for a guide. Let's see our new lodging, and deal with the items we recently obtained. I'm curious as to how we may be better equip ourselves. I believe we can spend 2 days dealing with these details."

Conner (final post) Friday January 25th, 2008 5:35:22 PM
In the morning, Conner offers his hand in farewell to each of the Mithril Order and their new members in turn. He wishes each of them well and reminds them to look him up, albeit he doesn't exactly know where he will be posted.
"I'll remember each of you" he confirms aloud, "and I'll certainly drop by the new headquarters of the Mithril Order whenever I get back to the City."
Conner points the young lad he has hired to the foot locker. "Bring that with you, and we'll be off!" With a final wave and a "remember to look after the monument" the new captain takes his leave.
[OOC Thanks for a wonderful game...I had fun and will miss this game!]
Julian Friday January 25th, 2008 5:38:58 PM
Julian is well beyond good counsel by the end of the night, and happily follows anyone home looking for a bed. Fortunately he follows Thar, having spoken with him most of the night.
At the apartment he vaguely wanders into Edmund's room, and promptly falls asleep on the floor in a huddle of fur - badger, dog, Julian, badger. They do not snore.
In the morning Julian arises early, cheerfully says, "Good morning, Eddy. Best part of the day now, you know," though he may still be sleeping, and slips out to the living area with his animals.
"Hi. I think I said yesterday I tend to be a bit forward when nervous - well, here I am now in your house. We all need to go outside for a minute." Julian and his animals go for a short jog around a block or two, finding a quiet place to allow business to be done discreetly. Upon returning Julian chooses to stay outside for quite a while to let the others sort things out - especially regarding himself and Podo. They seem to be discussing things I don't know about, and it probably isn't my business.
Podo Danderfluff Pipewood Friday January 25th, 2008 5:49:06 PM
[OOC: Usually I would've been happy to post for Podo, but I haven't heard from JPW, and I was really hoping he would set the first impressions. [OOC by JPW:Sorry! Brain dead as I miss understood the transitions.])
At the Party Nervous amongst all these new people, feeling awkward at joining a Leaving Party for people he doesn't know, still saddened by his previous group suddenly falling apart, Podo is unusually quiet and reserved.
Podo appears a common monk; almost completely bald headed with the exception of a simple braided lock of hair just recently trimmed, simple attire, quiet and, of late, striving to be slow to anger. He is somewhat attractive, and his body looks as if hard work is familiar to him. He is muscled and lean, with a few scars from climbing or other wilderness accidents. He is of average height for a halfling. He wears simple white clothes, although it appears to cover armor of some kind, and Podo wears them as a second skin feeling most comfortable with them. Over his shoulder is a handy haversack, a pouch or two at his waist, attached to a simple belt.
When asked he is happy to divulge some information about himself, and politely asks about those who speak with him. Speading his arms wide, palms outward and upward says, "Peace and Love to you all, my Brothers and Sisters. I am Podo Danderfluff Pipewood, Walker Monk Healer Cleric of Alemi & Domi. I hope to find a peaceful way for all things."
Later, watching Julian drain another pint he mumbles, "I hope I don't have to look after him."
As the party winds up Podo quietly follows Julian to ensure that he is okay. He asks Thar, "Which way to the Temple of Alemi or Domi? I think I should like to retire there for the night. I will meet up with you later on tomorrow here, if that is all right."
In the morning Podo returns to the apartment, refreshed, bathed and calm. Seeing Julian outside he asks, "What have you done this time?" With Julian responding that he has done nothing wrong at all, and sensing the honesty in his friend, Podo suggests that they knock and see what happens.
Robert Friday January 25th, 2008 7:27:12 PM
I've added a tiny bit to the Plateau City Woldipedia page. It would be great to get more onto this. It is easy to edit and add bits.
A New Home. (DM Jim) Saturday January 26th, 2008 12:19:11 AM
As the group wakes in the morning they go about thier usual rituals. The also bid farewell to Mira this morning and it seems that Conner will also be leaving sooner.
They young lady that Conner has hired on makes quick work of getting his footlocker. She is surprisingly strong for her size if not bad looking as well.
As the group goes over things this morning it appears that they will check out the new house they have acquired and then check out some other things. They want to supply themselves before they take off and not get caught without what they might need.
It is a fair piece to the house that Shadow has the key too and it is a nice day. The streets are busy as usual and you get a few nasty looks but never are able to get a good look at the person as they go back to other things quickly.
Edmund Saturday January 26th, 2008 3:20:44 AM
Edmund is not exactly thrilled by the badgers sleeping in his room, even less so with Julian there. Edmund hardly ever comes out of his room before noon, and he never lets anyone in, prefering to crack the door and talk through the gap at whomever is outside, with only one eye visible.
Now that Julian has had a chance into his inner sanctum, whether he realises the tremendous faux pas he has committed or not, it is easy to see why Edmund doesn't like people inside. The room is clean. Not just clean, but spotless. It appears to have been created yesterday from the newest materials. There is no dust--not a single speck--and everything is immacuate. Things are ordered in a precise and mathematical way. This is hard to understand, perhaps, as Edmund manages to make an enormous mess of everything he does, but still, his room is perfect.
Despite the departure of Mira and Conner, and despite a fairly dissatisfying night, Edmund tries to look on the bright side, and as a result is less critical and pessimistic than usual. In fact, he almost seems optimistic. This is his first in-depth examination of the house on Helm's Way which is to be their headquarters. Considering that this was one of Edmund's most hoped-for acquisitions, his mood is understandable.
Edmund is eager to investigate the house and to choose his room. Somewhere with a window and room for both a desk and a bed. It would be nice to have a fireplace too, so he can keep the kettle on without having to travel down to a kitchen.
Of course, a big kitchen is important too, especially if they intend on serving the indigant people of Plateau City. There will need to be guest rooms and an infirmary, and numerous other accomodations. And, of course, all of it will have to be outfitted. Edmund idly wonders if these things can be accomplished with his magic.
When the day is over and Edmund returns to his own chambers--for their headquarters are probably not outfitted yet--he is certain to lock the door to his room to prevent any more unwanted visitors. The wizard guards his privacy jealously. With the amount of studying he needs to do, perhaps this is justified.
Kadaz Saturday January 26th, 2008 11:04:24 AM
Kadaz has an errand to run. "I'm going to join the Woldian League of Adventurers. I am going to their Plateau City outpost today. I'm not sure how long this will take but I will be back as soon as I can to help set up the new house. In the meantime, save me and Birdie a room, please. We're not that not picky about it. Thanks."
Kirsten Saturday January 26th, 2008 6:22:46 PM
She tries to be upbeat, now that they have lost two of their companions and gained two new ones. She's excited to hear about having a new "headquarters" and vaguely wonders if she might be able to find herself a slightly larger room.
Early the morning after the party, Kirsten will head to her temple to pray.
Julian Saturday January 26th, 2008 6:59:20 PM
Julian with his pets will follow the party to the new house, "Headquarters? For you lot? Are you mercenaries?"
Kadaz Sunday January 27th, 2008 10:30:56 AM
Kadaz stops first at Sampson's where he pays the bill for the previous night's party. "Thank you very much" he again says to the owner. "And please distribute this among the staff who made the party so much fun" he says as he hands over an extra bag of gold.
Podo Danderfulff Pipewood Sunday January 27th, 2008 1:49:24 PM
Podo standing before the new groups door, will fall into line behind them when they head out, keeping to himself and his tongue.
Arm Monday January 28th, 2008 6:07:52 AM
OOC: Backtracking a bit:
IC: The tall half-elven bard extends his hand to the other newcomer and says, "Greetings and welcome to the Mithril Order. I am Armathen Ebano, but my friends call me Arm. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
When Thar mentions the place on the map, Arm smacks his head in consternation, saying "I completely forgot about the location on the map. Since it seems that something is 'brewing' as it were, perhaps we should forego the exploration of our new headquarters until later, as this seems more pressing.".
He then smiles at Julian and says, "Well, that all depends on your definition of mercenary...yes, we ARE 'swords for hire' of a sort, but it must be for a good cause.". He then places the 269 gold on the table as was his part of the 'pot contribution'.
OOC: Jim, I'll update my CS later and email it to you.
Shadow Monday January 28th, 2008 7:29:02 AM
Shadow will join the group after spending the morning packing, he is not sure when exactly the group plans on moving into their new house but wants to be prepared. He will move with the group towards their new home, he tries to ignore the looks that the group gets but does find it hard to totally ignore them. Once at the house he will spend the first part of the time checking out the house to see if he can find all of the secret entrances. "We will also need to do something about the basement." He suggests.
Thar ail Baerer Monday January 28th, 2008 9:11:42 AM
Thar will direct their new friend, Podo, to the appropriate temple, and continue chatting with him about his life and journeys up to this point.
While the group does their various tasks of preparation, worship, etc., he'll run over to the WLA and do a brief bit of training for his new level.
Once back, he'll listen to the different suggestions about whether they go to the new house or go to the place on the map that seems to be time-sensitive.
"It seems like we have a mixed bag of ideas about what to do. Who wants to make the decision? I'm not a leader type, and will do whatever everyone wishes."
(OOC =Shadow, do you want to keep the boots or have me sell them? See my last post for relevant gp information)
