Preparation and Movement [DM SteveK] d20+13=30 Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 2:28:49 PM
Firn'gear stays behind with some recently purchased spells in order to create some Permenancy spells.
Peerimus prepares for the jaunt by checking out the local fauna in a 14 mile radius of his woods. Just as before, any built-up areas remain blank to the druid, the biggest being Heranmar and the Triton Palace. though there are many farms with half-dozen buildings each in the area mostly to the south and west. Two-Stripe and her family are doing well, and there doesn't seem to be any powerful unnatural creatures in the wilderness within most of a day's walk (ie 14 miles). Peerimus can conclude that nothing is disturbing the natrual order of the animals close to his grove.
For everyone else, preparations for the multi-month trip are underway. Within one day, any common equipment and supplies can be found/bought from local shops or Holly's General Store (ie for anything in PHB, no need for Catacombs) The next morning dawns grey with clouds, and the Children of Chaos are off!
Even after two days, Trace (DM rolled tracking:30) easily picks up the trail of the nine Mailed Fist scouts. They all seem adept at walking softly and using the local terrian, but there are signs: a bit of cloak carelessly left on a thorn, a footprint as if someone was pushed... The CoC follow the trail through the farmlands and woodlots and into true wilderness. After moving most of the day, Trace leads the others to a clearing that looks like it was used as a campsite the night before. The signs are faint, but the heroes can pick out where bodies had slept, a small firepit (now cold), a cathole latrine, and a sentry station in a nearby tree.
Spot DC 20 - Highlight to display spoiler: {There is also a small silver coin with a Mailed Fist on one side and a wolf riding a thunderstorm on the other. }
Search DC 20 - Highlight to display spoiler: {There is a smaller clearing 100 feet to the east that has blood and a broken arrow around a scuffle. }
Survival(Tracking) DC 20 - Highlight to display spoiler: {To the north east of the clearing, there are tracks of three unshod, hooved, heavy animals that appear to have been watching the camp. }
Jurgen and Shay d20+1=20 d20+14=15 Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 3:02:14 PM
(OOC: I'll make a list of what Jurgen grabbed from Holly's when I get home. At school without my books at the moment)
"Well Trace, looks like you've got to point out their flaws in being stealthy, once we get a hold of them." Jurgen spends the two days in relative quiet. If any in the group purchase mounts for the journey, Jurgen activates his Overland Flight spell and flies alongside his friends instead of picking up a horse in Heranmar.
At the scout camp, Jurgen asks Shay to fly over of the area to see if he can spot anything. Before long, Jurgen spies the second clearing and brings it's attention to the group. (Search Check - Success with 20) "This blood doesn't look too reassuring..." Jurgen adds unhelpfully. Shay, on the other hand, is still high up in the air. Instead of trying to assist in scouting the area, he's enjoying the fresh air. (Shay's Spot Check - Obscene Failure with Natural 1) Jurgen sends a wave of disapproval through their empathic link.
"Where now, Trace?"
Savin d20+18=20 d20+2=14 d20+6=18 Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 8:40:09 PM
Once Savin realizes that they are going to be roughing it for such a long time, he will go and buy supplies needed for the trip. He mainly loads up on cooking spices and condiments to help spice up the meals he expects the others to hunt. He will compliment these stores with a couple bottles of wine, some wheels of cheese, several small sacks of flour and sugar, beans and other dried goods to help make stews. He also makes sure to bring along some pots, pans, and skewers to cook over the fire with.
He will also pick up the basics in camping gear: a tent, bedroll, tinderbox, 50' of rope, basice fishing gear, skins for water, a small shovel, a hatchet for cutting up wood and several weeks of iron rations. He will store all of it in his handy Hewards haversack which he will shoulder and pronounce he is ready.
(ooc Steve just give me a ballpark figure to deduct from my character.)
Savin spots the coin and picks it up displaying it to the others and saying, "I think we are on the right track?"
Peerimus and Yorrick d20+16=18 d20+26=38 d20+21=37 Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 10:59:31 PM
Peerimus will purchase some food, though he needs none, he figures he will bring some for the others and possibly Yorrick as well. he nods agreement at Trace's findings on the scouts, but it is little surprise. Very little can trod upon the ground of the Wold that he and Trace could not track. He stays with the group, Trace is thier advanced point and the druid just enjoys the day.
Upon the camp, Peerimus adds to the equation the unshod hoof marks and frowns. He examines the marks more closely and calls over Trace, "Centaur maybe Satyr and with the arrow and coin our scouts might have run into something and need helping out of it. Opinions?"

Kazak Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 11:46:33 PM
The dwarven warrior looks about as he see's the group starting to ready themselves to travel .... with aknowing smile Kazak is already packed " heh guess uncle's relentless prodding is finally paying off ... guess i really did learn something from the cranky taskmaster " grins Kazak
Stopping by the general store Kazak picks up a few things to add to his pack " two 50'ft silk ropes and a folding shovel and lastly a two more waterskins ... one filled with something strong "
As they start to to travel the dwarf just stays in the middle of the group knowing his skill set ain't needed at this pont ... he just keys in on Trace's efforts to keep himselfed informed of his findings
Trace [sub-SteveK] d20+10=18 d20+13=31 d20+13=33 Thursday January 24th, 2008 2:09:02 PM
Trace looks around and confirms the found coin and the bloody area on the ground. He looks around carefully to spot any more information. (Spot; 18, Search;31, Tracking;33)
He is wary of any ambush and keeps his bow strung with an arrow on the riser.
Old Camp and New Blood [DM SteveK] Thursday January 24th, 2008 2:13:03 PM
The group finds and discusses all the clues about the campsite and thinks of thier next step. Trace and Peerimus are able to recreate the scene before them. Sometime during the night, the centaurs were discovered behind the bush by one of the scouts. People gathered and a couple arrows were shot (only one hitting flesh of a scout) before the centaurs ran away. The scouts followed the centaur trail the next morning.
Shay is able to see little in the fading light and cloudy day, and very soon it will be pitch black in the wilderness.
The Children are going to have to decide what to do.
Firn'gaer Thursday January 24th, 2008 3:50:44 PM
Firn'gaer spends the rest of the day scribing one of the spells into his spellbook.
That evening he heads to the tavern and spends his usual time eating, drinking, and spending time staying by the fire.
Durgan Thursday January 24th, 2008 9:28:09 PM
Durgan keeps watch with his crossbow while the others examine the camp. "It's gettin dark. If were goin after the scouts then let's go now. If were camping till light then I think we could do a better job of protecting the campsite than the scouts did eh?"
"Personally, I vote fer campin. After all this hiking, I need a drink."
Savin Thursday January 24th, 2008 11:00:21 PM
Savin frowns with the news of the patrol fighting centaurs. While he hasn't has much interaction with the four legged creature, he always thought they were a force for good.
He looks at Peerimus and says, "Why would these two groups be fighting. I am more inclined to trust the centaurs then the men but I guess we have to give both groups the benefit of the doubt until we find them. How far away are they? Can we catch them if we push tonight? If you give me a direction, I can move ahead and see what I can find."
Kazak Thursday January 24th, 2008 11:48:05 PM
Observing Peerimus and Trace recreate the events thru their findings the dwarf supports Savins thoughts .
"Yeah .. i'm willing to push on thru the night if it helps catch up and figure out what started this exchange between da two sides " adds Kazak
" I'm not to familar with Centaurs .... so i'd just follow your lead and opinions on that for the time being "
"Heh sounds like your getting old Durgan ... you used to be able to drink while ya walked " grins Kazak
Jurgen and Shay Friday January 25th, 2008 2:58:14 AM
"I'll put my say into pushing forward too. They've got maybe half a day's advantage on us, but they're probably worried about being spotted. This whole situation spells trouble. It'd be one thing if these scouts had done something stupid and gotten themselves in trouble. But it's another if they've put Heranmar in some sort of jeopardy because of it..." He looks around, eyeing the horizon and the fading light. "I don't really know much about centaurs, but I don't like the idea of them holding the city somehow responsible for these scouts."
Kit'Miara/Kristel Friday January 25th, 2008 6:57:17 AM

Peerimus and Yorrick Friday January 25th, 2008 9:08:17 AM
Peerimus shakes his head, "Centaurs are nor more good or evil than man. I suspect that the patrol fired first. Just given the nature of those of the patrol. Military, undisciplined and in a foreign environment heading to possible war"
Judging the skky and the fact they have already gone a full days march, "No we wait until morning Savin. The Centaurs will not leave and continue in a straight line, they have nearly an 8 hour lead and we will have no trouble following and can make ground on them."
"Hopefully these centaurs will be like any other intelligent group and not react swiftly. Let's set camp set watch and we'll trail the scouts and centaurs in the morning."

Firn'gaer continues the next day the same as the day before. He scribes his spell and then spends the evening at the tavern eating a good meal and enjoying the fire with his pipe. Rufus, too, enjoys the heat of the fire and eating until he can't move.
Firn'gaer wonders how the patrol is going.
Camping [DM Steve] Friday January 25th, 2008 7:21:57 PM
Firn'gear Highlight to display spoiler: { With the day previous and the day the group set out, Firn'gear is able to scribe both spells into his book. The mercenaries have not returned and it looks like things are settling down to more or less normal here in gray clouded Heranmar. Perhaps tomorrow the gnome will be able to followup on his curiosity and locate the other CoC... }
The night is dark and the Children decide to rest up before following in the morning. Camping is uneventful, unless you consider whatever concoction that is whipped up for supper a deadly encounter. The day dawns, surprisingly enough with a real dawn. While still partly cloudy, it looks like the sun has finally come to Heranmar for a while!
The Children get an early start and are able to easily follow the centaurs and the scouts as they continue east. It is another day of movement and is only an hour before dusk when the group catches up to thier quarry.

The second group is four humans, two half-elves, one elf, and one dwarf (all wearing what looks like a woodsman's uniform). This group is clearly tracking the centaurs and are not happy about the half-men for some reason. What is worse, they have picked the elm Kit and Kat are hiding in as thier own vantage point! The third group is strangest of all. Leading them is what looks like an experienced elvin-ranger with a black panther padding beside him. Savin d20+18=35 d20+17=37 d20+18=33 Saturday January 26th, 2008 9:24:43 AM
Savin will hold up his hand with his fist clenched to tell his friends that something is amiss. He unusually keen senses of seeing and hearing inform him that they have found their quarry.
He will point to the tree where the scouts are hiding and then whisper that the centaurs are ahead, in the clearing. "I can go ahead and take a look around if you want Peerimus. I might not be good at tracking but I can move quietly and keep my eyes open. Do you want me to go?"

"I don't mind Savin going ahead and scouting, although if it evolves into a fight... If I could just see with your eyes Savin, I'd stop this before it could get to that." He tightens his fist in frustration. "Bah. Their Captain is going to skin them alive if they ma-" He goes quiet for a second and then grabs a bit of fleece out of his pocket. He tries to visual Captain Gheralh as best he can. He's not positive on the exact details, but he's pretty sure it's a decent replica. If only he could have recalled whether the half-orc had all his teeth or not...
He then rubs the fleece and casts Major Image. Right next to the now concentrating sorcerer is Captain Gheralh. The image's mouth opens and out comes his voice as best as Jurgen can recall.
"Maybe sending me along with Savin would help?" As the half-orc speaks, Jurgen grins. "After all, us illusions have a bit easier time sneaking than Jurgen over there."
(OOC: I leave it up to you, Steve, whether Jurgen can recall Gheralh well enough to make a perfect copy.)

He casts Message (Duration - 130 minutes. Target - Savin (Presuming DanK doesn't toss up a post before the next DM post saying he meant for the message to be to the scouts. If so, the spell will target the scouts)).

Savin sneaks forward as the rest of the group lies in wait and prepares for action. He goes with the aid of a message spell keyed between Savin and the group(can affect all COC except newbies) and a short duration greater invisibility courtesy of Jurgen.
As Savin gets closer, he is able to observe the following: The centaurs appear to be unaware of the scouts. The scouts are thus far unaware of Savin or the rest of the group. The centaurs appear to have some wounded within their camp. The scouts appear anxious. They are unsure of their actions. Some appear to be arguing via hand signals over what to do next. Some appear ready to take matters into their own hands. One of the scouts is obviously a good shot and has a centaur lined up with a ready arrow. Another has bow ready and a look of quiet calm as a hunter that has just found its' prey. The one who appears to be 'in charge' looks to be losing control of the situation...
OOC- Kit and Kat you may begin posting. Savin- Don't forget the group has not seen what you have. Duration of greater invisibility spell remaining = 10 rounds. Please post which skill checks are from which rolls in your post.

The Monk whispers to the rest of the CoC what he see's ...." the scouts leader seems to be losing it , somethings bad is about to go down here "
" i'm going to place myself between the two groups and try and stop the shooting "
Savin moves silently (d20+15=35 nat 20!!) to position himself in front of the crossbowmen and between his target.
"how do you want to do this Peerimus ?? ... you want to move in behind them ?? ... pin them between you and me ?" whispers Savin via the message spell
Savin plans two options ... the 1st if the crossbow man shoots he will try and deflect the shot (deflect arrows feat) then quickly attack the crossbows weapon hoping to smash it to pieces (d20+18=36 unarmed attack )
The 2nd option he will wait on Peerimus decision ..... possibly shedding his invisiblity to stop the attack.

Peerimus and Yorrick d20+16=18 Tuesday January 29th, 2008 8:44:46 AM
Peerimus whispers back through the message spell. "Savin stay invisible and keep between the centaurs and the largest threat. The rest of just as Trace called out. We step in and end the possibility of shooting. No one reveal they think shots were about to be fired." The Druid peers through the trees and brush, but too much undergrowth masks the area ahead. [Spot 18 not much there]
"Follow my Lead guys." Peerimus moves forward and with a pat to Yorrick the mighty bear gives a good grunt as the pair stomps through the underbrush, though the druid leaves no trail. Peerimus calls out in a loud voice, "Hold!" he continues to move forward, heading to a point that will place him between the scout unit and the Centaurs.
"I am the caretaker of these woods and would know who disturbs them?"
Jurgen [AC 20 HP 53] d20+13=32 Tuesday January 29th, 2008 9:16:06 AM
Through the whisper spell, Jurgen passes a message to the group. "If they attack, I will do my best to disable them without injuring."
The sorcerer follows behind Kazak as they move forward, keeping his eyes to the scouts. Although fairly certain that the scouts won't attack with the Children in between, he remains cautious. While Peerimus speaks Jurgen readies Resilient Sphere (Reflex Throw to Negate - DC 22. Effect - 13 foot diameter sphere. Target - Center-most scout, if they're all grouped close enough together to all be affected. Otherwise, where the first attack comes from. Duration - 13 minutes. If Spell Resistance, caster level check - (d20+13) 32.) He'll only complete the spell if an attack starts.
To himself, Jurgen wonders how the scouts would react if the ground underneath them turned to dust. He quickly nixes the idea after considering how Peerimus would react to the wanton destruction of nature. 'Oh well,' he thought, 'nothing to do now, but wait...'

The Standoff [DM BrianZ] Tuesday January 29th, 2008 11:02:26 PM
Trace's bow answers..."Most are unaware but one awaits."
The group moves forward quickly and decisively and cuts off the possible attack by the scouts. (Jurgen-spell not needed yet). The scouts are obviously surprised at the sudden appearance of the well-armed group. They keep their weapons at hand but are not trying to use them as they find themselves surrounded by the Children of Chaos.
The centaurs have taken note of the commotion. Their warriors swiftly travel up the slope to the location of the scouts and the party and are obviously alarmed at the presence of so many armed individuals sneaking up on their campsite. Upon noticing the identities of the scouts the centaurs become even more agitated, and raise weapons. You can hear a few hunting horns sound, and more galloping hooves from not too far away.
Upon seeing the angry centaurs, the scouts lift their weapons again. They do not appear so eager however when the enemy? is right on top of them.
No one has as yet answered Peerimus' question.
Is a battle preventable?...
Kit and Kat find themselves in a precarious position as all of the activity takes place practically right underneath them.
Interlude: Firn'gaer goes to rest in his room at the Inn and finds his tattoo is itching this evening. He attempts to sleep but the sensation gets worse and worse. Jurgen [AC 20 HP 53] d20-1=13 d20+7=25 Wednesday January 30th, 2008 12:23:21 AM
"Say the word and those scouts can be out of the way and into a Resilient Sphere while we settle this situation. Savin... I'd suggest not getting caught in it, if it comes to that." Jurgen whispers through the message spell, not sure whether the command would come through Peerimus or Trace. He remains ready and the instant he receives the order, he'll put the spell up. Otherwise, he'll keep it readied for another round. If the centaurs attack, he'll still throw it at the scouts to keep them protected.
Jurgen tried to get a rough count on the numbers that were incoming (Listen Check d20-1=13).
As smooth a talker as he was, Jurgen couldn't think of a lie that would fit this situation. The Children didn't want to give the impression that the scouts were under their control, but they also didn't want to watch them get filled with holes. And they certainly didn't want to get into a brawl with the centaurs. While there was no clue as to who was in the right here (and he suspected neither was entirely without blame), Jurgen thought that the mercenaries would take being told what to do slightly better.
"We don't have the time to wait for your tempers to cool. You," Jurgen points towards one of the scouts with a bow in hand, "tell me how you confused your orders of 'find the orcs' this badly. And do it with your bow down." (Rolled a straight Charisma Check. d20+7=25 If you think it's an Intimidate check, it gets a +2 synergy bonus from Bluff.) He keeps the scouts in his sight, but glances at the centaurs to see if he can identify a leader. "And I'm sure such an act would be reciprocated by these reasonable taurs, even if you have done something to deserve their ire."

Peerimus and Yorrick d20+16=22 Wednesday January 30th, 2008 11:01:12 AM
Peerimus continues to move and postion himself between the two groups. Arms spread wide so that the right is towards the scouts and the left is towards the centaurs. Knowing Savin is a keen observer he nods to the whispered message as he walks to confirm the monk's intentions. His voice strong and his head pivots between the two groups as he speaks, "Stand down! There will be no shooting. I am Peerimus and druid of these woods. A parlay is in order. I again ask for you to Stand Down and I invite the commanders to parlay and avoid senseless violence."

Trace again ask his bow if any of the two groups is on the verge of attacking even though we have stalled this situation and who seems to be the commanders.
Trace will relay this information to Peerimus and wait for battle before makeing any other formation suggestions.
Trace whispers to the group, if a shot is fired use the sphere to see if we can cool the situation down. The Centaurs might be more willing to talk with out possible agression from this group. They seemed to have reacted harshly when they saw them and not us.

With Peerimus' words and the obvious display of martial prowess from the adventurers, the tension seems to take a minor drop. The centaurs lower their weapons but keep them at the ready. One who seems to be in charge addresses the gathering.
"My name is Gwaeron. I am the leader of these Taur warriors. I will listen to you servant of nature. What business do you have armed and sneaking up on our camp?" Then he points at the scouts. "And those other ones need to explain why they fired upon us earlier? I hope I like the answer." The other centaurs mill about, looking around and waiting for anyone to make what they perceive as a hostile move. Some others that were coming up to the area lurk just out of sight, but audibly stamp the ground with impatience.
The scouts lower their weapons as well, but also do not yet put them away. Most of them seem to be looking at a strong looking half-orc for orders, one seems to be trying to make provoking eye contact with the taur warriors and a human male seems to be looking for somewhere to run to, he is visibly shaken. The scouts who have been spoken to thus far wait for their leader to respond.
The half-orc responds. "I am called Gruk. We are in these woods under orders."
Savin Wednesday January 30th, 2008 11:16:03 PM
Savin stays invisible as he see's there is still the possiblity of bloodshed.
" i'm still where i said i was " whipsers Savin to Peerimus in magical form
A thought comes to Savin's mind " er Peerimus something is not right about who is in charge of thee scouts .... i thought is was the nervous guy but that 1/2 orc seems to be throwing his wait around ... maybe bullying and encouraging this attack ... what do you think ?'

Kazak Wednesday January 30th, 2008 11:24:23 PM
The dwarven warrior keeps to his position on the right of Peerimus and the bear .... keeping formation ..... his hands still weaponless as he looks over the scene before him .
Kazak smiles ... trying to be casual .... he keeps quiet .... giving Peerimus their voice for the group.
" heh all this walking in the woods oughta get Durgan to lose a few pounds " chuckles Kazak to himself as he peeks over at his brother and winks at him

Peerimus and Yorrick Thursday January 31st, 2008 11:40:36 AM
"Warrior Gwaeron" Peerimus gives a deep nod. "I thank you for your consideration." he then extends the same courtousey to Gruk. Being pretty sure things are as peaceful and steady as they are going to get at this time, Peerimus simply stays and since the scouts already know the group, he answers the taur.
"We are a band of brothers in arms and serve as champion for forces of good. Our home is not far from here to the west. We are on a goodwill expedition to peacebly meet those that share the land about us. We discovered the signs of the incident and followed in the hopes of preventing further violence and to try and reach an agreeable peace." Glancing at the two full plate armored dwarves on his flanks he then adds, "There was no intention of sneaking."
Peerimus then address's Gruk, "Very well. In the interest of a peaceful resolution I would like to know more about your orders." For now Peerimus seems to not desire to pursue the actual shooting of yesterday. As he speaks and Savin's words whisper into his ear, he nods several times.

Jurgen d20+7=19 Thursday January 31st, 2008 3:10:24 PM
Jurgen leaves Peerimus to explain what the Children are doing. Which is probably for the best. Since Jurgen is feeling fairly irate at the scouts after standing up for the idea of helping them. If they attacked the centaurs without suitable provocation... Nothing about this felt right. Both sides seemed too eager for a fight. While Jurgen hoped a gross misunderstanding had occured, but was fairly certain someone had intended to cause violence. So, for another round, Jurgen will hold his spell.
While Peerimus speaks to Gruk, Jurgen looks to the nervous scout. He'll try to make eye contact and hold it. If Gruk attempts to dodge the question, Jurgen will speak up. "Perhaps someone else will be more forthcoming..." he pretends to debate a moment and then points to the human. "You. Give us a straight answer." (Another Charisma Check d20+7=19 - I needs me some skill points in diplomacy.)

The Children [DM BrianZ] Thursday January 31st, 2008 10:48:22 PM
The nervous scout turns white as he is put on the spot and appears ready to pass out. "M-me? I'm mm not , I mean, I, umm", he points at Gruk. "Gruk is in charge. The scout nods back at Jurgen and says, "you seem pretty brave."
Gruk cuts in. "AH, I remember you now. You are the so-called protectors of Heranmar. Too good to help out some lowly scouts eh? Our orders are quite simple. Take a roundabout tour of the surrounding countryside and gather any available information on local orc movements and activity."
"We were doing just that when these taurs invaded our camp last night. Our man on watch reported we were under attack. When we woke up, we found several taurs nearby with drawn weapons and shooting arrows and so we returned fire. I believe we hit one of them. And then we tracked them here to see if they were allied with the orcs."
"Gwaeron stamps his foot with impatience. "I have had just about enough of that. My warriors did scout your camp but did not fire first. Your man on watch did that." He seems to ready to continue but is interrupted by one of his warriors. The taur had been arguing with another and as he approaches, he whispers into Gwaeron's ear. Trace speaks up, "obviously a misunderstanding by an inexpirenced scout guard at night. Lets call this a draw and know that no evil was intended.
Trace's attention is drawn away when shadow senses a someone in the trees. Not caring if anyone reacts, Trace hates that someone has watched him before he knows they are there. He feels that he should be beyond that by now. Tracking his aim on the Trees he searches for a target.
Trace tell Peerimus in no longer a whisper, a fourth group is with us in the trees. Not sure of how many but all I feel is one, there could be more.
Peerimus and Yorrick d20+7=18 Friday February 1st, 2008 1:41:07 PM
Peerimus simply nods at Gruk, "Simple enough." Addressing both again, "It seems a misunderstanding fair enough and these things happen in the dark and I see no reason that such an isolated and non fatal incident can not be overlooked and put behind everyone." The druid does not hear what is passed directly between the taurs, but fortunately Savin does. The taurs have not brought it up and Peerimus is not going to let on that his ears or one of his group is so keen. It is the mention of orcs that the druid pursues.
With Trace's general revelation to all present about the possible forces in the trees, Peerimus's nose twitches and a small pressure begins to move forward. Peerimus remains with the direct approach. "It would be wise to step out and show yourselves. There are a great deal of tense individuals below you and we don't want anyone accidently taking a shot and setting things off." The orcs will have to wait.

Jurgen Friday February 1st, 2008 2:51:49 PM
Jurgen looks to the nervous scout and nods his head at Savin's assessment. If there was an opportunity, he would question the man alone.
"We are known as The Children, yes. There are others, but they are not all with us at the moment." He holds up his hand to show off the tattoo that marks them as such. Which makes him think he should start wearing that broken spiral in a more visable place. Maybe it would give some form of authority. "Why do you ask?"
At Peerimus and Trace's nervousness, Jurgen is tempted to continue holding his spell. But the tensions seem to have died down, at least enough for them not to kill each other. For now, he would focus on why the Taurs were looking for them...
Kit'Miara Friday February 1st, 2008 2:54:08 PM
The slight halfing pokes her head out as far as she can and says "You have to promise not to kill us first." She takes a good look at those surrounding the tree not to sure that even if a promise is made that they will not be killed. "We have had quite enough of being attacked thank you very much"
Kat'Miara Friday February 1st, 2008 4:05:44 PM
A Identical face pokes out next to the first say We have quite enough indeed" Why must the big always pick on the little" she asks no one in particular "We will come down if no one attacks us"
Firn'gaer Friday February 1st, 2008 5:28:23 PM
The next morning Firn'gaer awakes and his hand still itches, where the tattoo is. He's doesn't seem too surprised when he recalls a dream of the other's location. After preparing his spells and eating a good meal - last one in who knows how long - he completes the incantation that will take him to the others.
The Taurs [DM BrianZ] Saturday February 2nd, 2008 1:26:18 AM
Gwaeron looks up at the tree. "Ah the halfling girls. It appears our seer was right once again." He takes a look around and seems to be counting heads. "Only eight? She told us nine were the Children of Chaos who would come."
"As for the orcs, if these soldiers promise to behave, I believe we could provide some information about them. I suggest we all retire to our camp." You see most of the taur warriors drop their guard finally and most begin to return to the camp while a few return to their patrols. Gwaeron stands waiting for your response.
The scouts put away their weapons with a nod from Gruk. Gruk seems reluctant to take his troops into the camp unless the heroes are going as well.
Interlude- Firn'gaer enjoys a restful and relaxing evening at the Inn, and an extremely tasty meal. Much better than the trail rations the others must be eating. Afterwards, the itching of the tattoo increases and Firn'gaer once again feels compelled to follow its' pull. This time he does, casting a teleport spell and sending him into the unknown...

Savin Saturday February 2nd, 2008 3:56:58 PM
Savin doesn't want to cause problems but isn't sure how to dispel the invisibilty spell. He will say in a loud voice, "My congradulations on your information on us Gwaeron. Their are 9 of us and I am here ready to defend the innocent. Unfortunately you can't see me yet until this spell wears off but know that Savin is hear and moving into your camp with you."
Peerimus and Yorrick Saturday February 2nd, 2008 7:37:08 PM
Peerimus looks over the halflings and smells trouble. His life was complicated enough. With the crook of the head he responds. "None shall harm you, come down and be at ease." Peerimus gives another courteous bow to the centaur leader. "Most generous of you. Gruk I believe your commander would be most welcoming of the potential intelligence Gwaeron and his clan possess. Living in this area as long as they have."
Peerimus turns back to the Taur, "We gladly accept the invitation and I am sure Gruk and his men's honor will satisfy you completely. Please." and with that he gestures off and away. The tritons may have become a near disaster, but the druid has high hopes this first encounter will go much differently.
Yorrick grunts and runs his tongue across his teeth and muzzle, Peerimus' hand absently reaches out and provides a scratch just under the ursine's chin.

At the sight of the halflings, a very small grin creeps onto his face. Strictly speaking, he didn't really know many halflings. But anyone who had been able to hide in the trees so expertly... Jurgen was fairly certain that the three of them could get into some excellent trouble. "It's a pleasure to meet you two. I presume you've the marks that match ours? I am Jurgen. The one who just appeared is Savin." He'll go through the Children's names for any who don't do it themselves. "Firn'gaer isn't here yet. We, along with some others who no longer travel with us, make up the Children of Chaos. And if their seer is correct, you two are as well..."
"Oh. Savin. You could just di-" He stops himself mid-sentence. Instead of telling the monk how to get rid of the spell, he just did it himself. With a snap of his fingers, the invisible spell was dismissed. "With Savin, that makes eight. And we've got another companion who should arrive... soon?" He shrugs his shoulders.
"Any information you could give would be helpful." Jurgen addresses Gwaeron, but leaves the others to speak with him. The sorcerer takes this opportunity to speak with the scouts. More specifically, the nervous one who Savin pointed out earlier. He will try to figure out what happened between the scouts and the centaurs (he'll try this only if he can do so out of ear of the taurs). He will also see if he can learn anything about Gruk. OOC- For those who are in the process of updating char sheets to the google docs please remember to include your fate item(if you have one)on your sheet.
Notes- the message spell will be active for about two more hours.
Will the halflings join in going to the camp? They seem to have a story to tell...
The centaurs and scouts have agreed to an uneasy truce. Clearly there is still some bad blood there. As you enter the camp, Gwaeron leaves to report the news of the intruders and one of his warriors indicates areas for the two groups to rest. The areas are informal and spread out. You notice the scouts take advantage of the situation. Most of them seem to prefer not to be too close to one another.
The camp does not appear to be a permanent settlement, but rather makeshift as if the tribe is in the midst of traveling. There is a moderate amount of activity as the centaur healers are working on the wounded. Very soon, several centaurs bearing fruit, nuts, vegetables and loaves of fortified trail bread come by. They also bring water and ale to drink. They leave several trays of food with both your group and with the scouts. Knowledge nature DC 15 to highlight: Highlight to display spoiler: { The food is only partially locally gathered. Much of it appears as though prepared for a long journey. }
With a bit of information gathering, you can glean the following information about the scouts: There are ten scouts. As you observe their camp and preparations you can see a male elf arguing with a male dwarf. Gruk disciplines them, but they only quiet a little. You see a human female practicing moving silently and hiding. You see a human man setting up an army-perfect campsite. You see a human male tending to his bow and arrows making sure they are in peak operating condition. You see a half-elf man keeping to himself. You see a female half-elf finished with her camp work and waiting for further orders. You see a human male trying to erect a minor shelter over his sleep area as if worried over the defense of it. You see the nervous guy(human male) join Jurgen for a bite to eat.
"Your name is Jurgen? Mine's Mort. Mort McCulvert. You can call me 'dog ears' though. Everyone else does." He looks around nervously to make sure no one is close. "So what did you want to talk about?"
Interlude There is a brief commotion as Firn'gaer teleports near the camp. The centaurs bring him in and release him once the group identifies him as one of the Children of Chaos. (DM amended previous post slightly to bring you in sooner!)
Kat'Miara d20=14 Monday February 4th, 2008 8:14:30 PM
Kat'Miara nods to Jurgen Nice to meet you I am Kat'Miara and this is Kit'Miara my sister. We have been on the road a long time and several orc chases us up this tree if you must know, but where is here as we have know idea where we are one second we were with our tribe and the next we are here in a orc filled forest. Quickly changing the subject she smiles and you can see her bright green eyes as she jumps down with a back flip (tumble 32) and lands on her feet. She is dressed Jet black leather armor and gloves as well as a black cloak. Looking at the others she waits for her sister to come out of the tree
Durgan Monday February 4th, 2008 8:36:14 PM
Durgan sits and eats the food, enjoying some ale and watching the dwarf and elf scouts bickering. "Hey Kazak. Wonder what that's all about?"
Kit'Miara d20+8=22 Monday February 4th, 2008 11:38:40 PM
Kit does an identical back flip out of the tree landing beside her sister Kat. You see that not only are their faces identical but they are totally identical except for their clothing. Kit`Miara is dressed all in dark blue but it is so dark it almost seems black. ``Yup, what she says, I am Kit`Miara and this is my sister Kat`Miara`, we are twins`` she says with a wide grin on her face. ``We are tired of being hounded and chased and almost getting killed, hopefully none of you have that in mind. No idea where we are or why we are here`` She pauses for a moment pondering. ``Oh yeah, the marks`` she says with a sly grin ``We each have one on our rear, hers is on the right cheek and mine is on the left....wanna see`` she offers. Kit snickers and awaits a reply
Kazak d20+10=29 Monday February 4th, 2008 11:52:24 PM
The dwarven warrior smiles as he accepts the bounty of food " thank you this is very generous of you " as he warmly accepts their gift
Observing the scouts wandering to seperate spots " hmm absolutely no togetehrness " growls Kazak quietly
deciding that something has to be done ....some type of example "well guess i'll hafta start something " the dwarf wanders towards the individual scouts
First approaching the human setting up a perfect style camp " nice work young man ... i like the way you take pride in what you do ... the Taurs have set up some food for us ... i would like for you to join me in a meal ... so when you ready come join us " as he points out where he intends to eat
Continuing his wanderings he makes the same offer to the two half elves " you both seem to be done setting up please come join us for a meal " smiles Kazak warmly to both as he invites them to share
Walking bye the arguing dwarf and elf he eyes them up and down .... his steel grey eyes holding theirs for a moment if he catches their eyes (d20+10= 29 intimidate check) " don'tcha have anything better to do then that ?" growls Kazak but he keeps walking to his appointed rendevous with his invited guests .
If they join him he will make small talk .... making sure it;s all in the positive vein ... " well you all are good company ... i'm glad you accepted my invite ... so which are you favorite parts of this meal ?"
"it's good to eat and share meals ... a good way to get to know each other and work on building trust amongst ourselves "
Kazak also keeps a quiet eye on the other scouts to see their reaction to those gathered and even tries to coax at least one nearby Taur to join them
Savin Tuesday February 5th, 2008 10:26:29 AM
Savin smiles at the acrobatics of the twin halflings. He will stand and saunter over to them with an easy smile. "I would love to see your tattoo!" he teases. "Most of us have them on our arms and wrists. I wonder why the fates would put yours on your bottoms. Guess they have a sense of humor."
Savin holds out his arm with the tattoo's for their inspection and says, "My name is Savin and I have been with the Children of Chaos for several years. We have seen many adventures and been chased by much worse than orcs. Know that if you join us, your lives will get very interesting but also a lot of fun. We do seem to attract trouble however."
Savin will except the food of the centaurs with a thanks and then ask, "Do we have free rein of your camp? I haven't met many of your kind and would like to get to know you better. It looks like you are migrating somewhere? Is this normal for you?"
Firn'gaer Tuesday February 5th, 2008 10:45:23 AM
Firn'gaer is handled as the centaurs bring him to their camp. "Easy there fellas, I was only trying to find my friends." He says as they enter the camp. Firn'gaer looks and sees the others talking to various individuals. "And there they are. No harm, no foul."
"The tension is pretty thick. We have centaurs, soldiers, and I see there are two new, little ones. Halflings . . . and twins . . . and trouble I bet."
Peerimus and Yorrick d20+21=26 Tuesday February 5th, 2008 10:59:41 AM
Peerimus gives a short nod to the pair of halflings and as he listened to them his mind confirmed that his initial thoughts were correct. At least life will be in danger of getting dull and predictable.
At the camp, Peerimus notes the fare and how it is prepared. Something larger is certainly going on and the future he had a glimpse of is likely only the tip of pine tree. [nature 26] he thanks the centaurs for the food and gives Yorrick all that he can. As Kazak gets up, Peerimus listens and notes him and then moves over to the dwarf himself to join him in a bit to eat and drink. Peerimus asks the halflings to join them as well. "Kat and Kit, I wish to hear more detail on the orcs you have encountered. General number in which they travel, equipment, main base, one faction or more. That sort of of thing." he then whispers a message to Jurgen and Trace. "See if you can discreetly learn more of our hosts. They are packed for a lengthy journey. It would be nice to get some information on that. Is this home and they are leaving, are they passing through from somewhere else. Don't worry about thier destination."
Finrgaer pops in and Peerimus stands and waves the gnome over. He gives him a quick run down of the past few days.
Jurgen d20+21=40 d20+7=13 Tuesday February 5th, 2008 11:58:06 AM
"Pleasure to meet you Mort." Jurgen drops the nickname, assuming that Mort isn't a fan of it. He notes that the man's nervousness is still present. While the extra pair of eyes was appreciated, Jurgen would need a tongue that . "Mort... Would you mind if I cast a spell of protection on you? It's a bit of a pick-me-up." (Bluff Check - d20+21=40) If he doesn't object, Jurgen will cast Heroism on the nervous man. (Duration - 130 minutes. It's a stretch, I know. And, in fact, the bonus to saves may bite me in the ass if I'm trying to make checks against him.) He'll make a quick statement before he casts it, not trying to hide his voice from Mort, but including it under the whisper spell. "I'll get right on it."
Regardless of whether Mort allows the spell, Jurgen will go on with his questions. "I'd like to know what really happened when the centaurs were attacked. And what the problem is with you scouts. Why none of you will seem to listen to or follow Gruk." (Charisma Check - d20+7=13) Jurgen has the feeling that he is trolling in the wrong harbour at this point. And Peerimus wanted him to move onto the centaurs. Which he happily would, but only once he made sure this group of scouts wasn't on the verge of doing something that would get everyone killed.
Trace and Shadow d20+13=31 Tuesday February 5th, 2008 2:08:15 PM
While sitting around the fire with the others Trace settles in with Shadow to learn more about the taur group. (dc 31 knowlage nature)
Trace speaks up to no one in particular, "I see most of this food is Travel food. Are yall a nomadic tribe?"
When a answer is given Trace will think to his bow and ask the true meaning of the answer, if it is shadowed or not.

After a while Kat will sit down with Peerimus and explain that she knows little about them other then they were with there wandering tribe a few days ago and then the next moment they were in a forest surrounded by orcs. Some orcs died as easy as normal, but some were really, really tough and causes significant damage. We have been on the run for several days.
Kit'Miara Tuesday February 5th, 2008 7:53:43 PM
Kit'Miara grins at Savin and says "I am sure that you would...but I am sure you would be disappointed as they are just above our cheeks" She turns to Peerimus and says "I do not know much about the orcs other than there were more of them than us and they can run real fast. I do not know what direction they were heading in but one moment we were running the next we were in this lovely tree" and she points to the tree her and her sister have just left. "Oh by the way does this belong to anyone?" she shows a money pouch "I seem to have found it"
Durgan Tuesday February 5th, 2008 10:18:43 PM
Durgan is impressed with his brother's diplomacy skills. "Ye must have picked up some pointers from the clan merchants eh?"
Durgan enjoys the meal in everyone's company and keep his eyes and ears open looking for potential trouble.
The sturdy dwarf is sitting comfortably in his plate armor, his well-kept beard barely catching crumbs as he eats caredully so as to not dirty the beard. Several weapons can be seen on him and he looks to be a skilled warrior.
A shared meal [DM BrianZ] Tuesday February 5th, 2008 10:47:33 PM
Mort accepts the spell from Jurgen with a muttered thanks. "Thanks for using my name too." He says sheepishly, looking at the ground. "I earned the nickname by running away from a fight a while back. I'm not really much of a warrior. I was a good hunter back home and the army pay seemed really good. I am able to send a lot of it back to my family."
"As for the fight, I'm not really sure what happened. I was asleep and Lios was on watch. Next thing I knew I was awakened by someone shouting an alarm, and arrows were flying. Then the Taurs left. That's really all I know. As for Gruk, well, we're just a scratch company. Kind of forced to work together. Just because we have the skills, doesn't make us a unit."
Kazak is successful in getting most of the scouts to join in a meal. Gruk chases the remainder to join until all are present. Several centaurs join also, some seem to be curious about other races whom they have never met before, and others seem to be keeping an eye on everyone.
The scout girl named Aisha eats a light meal and then goes back to practicing hiding and walking quietly. The dwarf sits next to Kazak and Durgen as if he has known them for a long time and eats merrily. He introduces himself as Boris and grumbles about Calamar's dumb choice of favorite weapon. The man with the perfectly set up camp you learn is Lios. He doesn't chat much, preferring to listen as he slowly eats. One of the human scouts skips the meal. His name is Tarkin. After he finishes prepping his bow, he seems to check on the other scouts' gear to make sure it is in good working condition. The half-elven man Heris sits near the dwarves or the halflings. He contributes to the conversation whenever woodland knowledge is brought up. Mort seems to sit near Jurgen. Merida, the half-elf woman sits near Trace and picks his mind for advice on tracking. She seems quite skilled at it. The last human, Stan, sits away from the fire trying not to be noticed.
You have free run of the camp with two exceptions. The area where Gwaeron is meeting with the other tribal leaders and the tent which is the temporary home of their elder- the seer. Centaur warriors gently escourt anyone they find too close to these locations.
The halfling twins have chaos tattoos and seem quite chatty about their recent run-in with orcs.
Kat highlight please: Highlight to display spoiler: { The centaurs own little of interest for you. They live simple lives and their equipment is way oversized for a halfling. You suspect they may have some treasure, but you will need to make a detailed effort to look for it. The warriors do not seem to carry money. }
Trace discovers through idle chat that the tribe is partially nomadic traveling through several areas as the seasons change. However you sense they are packed for a longer journey than that.
You are informed Gwaeron will speak with everyone later, after he has checked on the wounded.
Kazak Tuesday February 5th, 2008 11:48:22 PM
The dwarven warrior continues to make conversation with the scouts ... asking a series of questions .
"Yeah thats right brother ... talking to and meeting new people is an invaluable experince and skill .... we can all learn from each other ... just need to be open about what we all have to say " as Kazak eyes the dwarf and elf that were argueing
" well first i'd like to know so how long have you acted as a scouting unit ?"
" and please lets go around the fire and have everyone tell a little bit of themselves ... thats a good way to learn more about each other "
Kazak will start and inform them of his recent past ... starting with how he and his brother joined the Children of Chaos " we were forced to work together somewaht in the beginning also but we each have our own skills and strengths ... we take it upin ourselves to try and fit in .... now it ain't always easy but hey this is what professionals do ... set our differences aside and work together "
" now just watching several of you go about your routinues .. i can tell you can all learn much from each there just need to make the effort ..... you just need someone to help organize yous"
Kazak will try and have a taur or two to tell their tale also
Peerimus and Yorrick Wednesday February 6th, 2008 12:22:18 PM
Peerimus gives some thought to the orc issue. barbarian tribe possibly pretty large and that spells bad news for the peaceful races of the area. Tomorrow he would prepare more spells to help him tack them down or at least learn more. Hopefully the centaur leader and shaman will shed light upon them as well. Looking to the others of the band, "Give it thought, we will likely be tracking and removing the orcs tomorrow.
He then turns back to the conversation about him that Kazak is working up. His brow refelxivly furrows at the round the table introduction part. Another burden of leadership I suppose. Peerimus is breif for his part, "I am Peerimus of Heranmar and this is Yorrick. I lead and guide our group off of the field of battle. The greatest obstacle you will need to overcome to become a unit is that of trust. Trust that the man next to you will be there if you need him, trust that your commander has more information and or experience than you and is qualified to make the decisions he does and also trust in yourself and your own capbilities. My advise would to you be this. Do everything together, learn everything you can about those in which you are placing your lives. Friends outlive companions and brothers outlive friends."

Kit'Miara watches her sister wander off but is lured by the food. She listens intently to the conversation trying to learn what she can seeing as she has king of been dumped in this situation. Between mouthfuls of food she asks "Can someone tell me exactly what these marks are about and maybe why we are here? You said trouble seems to follow you well it seems to follow us as well, all kinds of trouble as you can see from the situation you just found us in. Maybe we can join your party."
Firn'gaer d20+2=22 Wednesday February 6th, 2008 5:35:33 PM
Firn'gaer listens to Peerimus's recap of what's happen so far. "Orcs," he says looking at Kit and Kat attempting to assess their capabilities as to be able to judge what type of orc force they might encounter, "I hope they won't be a problem. By the sound of it, they might have considerable numbers. Perhaps, you can commune to learn the type of numbers we are looking at." He says during his conversation with Peerimus.
Kat makes her way around the group looking for everyone's story, and it is Firn'gaer's turn. As the halfling approaches Firn'gaer whispers to Rufus, "Keep an eye on the pouch."
Rufus responds in his usual squeak, They look like the sticky finger type . . . I'm not sharing my biscuits.
"You're not going have to, don't worry." Firn'gaer responds.
"My story," he says stroking his beard. "My story in a nutshell is that I'm from the Northern Continent. I was looking into a mark like the one you have," he shows the mark on his hand, "and was on my way to Hook City when I ended up in the Ice Veins. That's when I met that version of this group. Since then members have come and gone. Along the way I was reincarnated into the form you see before you. I was originally a human until Ebryon's awakening, and I came into contact with an ancient druidic artifact and POOF."
[Firn'gaer will attempt to tell the story with as much flare as he can muster. Figures that he would get a Nat 20 on his Perform(oratory) check for DC22]
After finishing his conversation with Kat, Firn'gaer decides to glance around the camp with his new eyes. He concentrates on his Arcane Sight and begins to look at the magic that is being carried around the encampment.

Jurgen and Shay Wednesday February 6th, 2008 8:54:43 PM
Jurgen will take a moment away from Mort to whisper through the message spell. "If we wanted to find out what happened about the taurs and scouts, we'd have to ask Lios. I'm feeling more and more nervous about these taurs and think we should schedule our own watch..." Then he joins the group in eating. He takes mild notice of Stan sitting off to the side, but doesn't really mind.
"I am Jurgen and I suppose I am of Heranmar as well. Now I am, anyway. Somewhere above us is Shay." The hawk introduces himself with a quick fly-by and then disappears again. "I've never really known any other profession than adventurer. And the most important lesson I've learned in my entire time is that it doesn't matter what powers you have at your command, if you can't trust the man, or woman," he nods towards Merida, "next to you, you're useless. We Children of Chaos may be destined to be force of good in this realm, but without teamwork, we could do nothing."
When it comes to Mort telling his story, Jurgen will try to make sure that that the scout comes out of his shell. At least a little bit. Encouraging him and so-forth. At Kit's question, Jurgen shrugs his shoulders. "The others have had considerably more experience with them. My understanding is that we're agents of the Crones... And it, on it's own whims, gives us certain powers. Although I'm fairly certain that, if in dire need, we can force it somehow." If any of the taurs tell their story, Jurgen focus his attention on them and try to see if he can get any extra information about the tribe.
Stories are told [DM BrianZ ] Wednesday February 6th, 2008 9:55:55 PM
OOC- forgot to mention previously, for those who haven't already, feel free to include descriptions of your characters for the new players :)
The Taurs seem reluctant to share stories and are obviously waiting for Gwaeron to make an appearance. One of them wanders off and appears to head for the elders' tent.
The scouts seem to take in what you are saying and soaking it in. It is valuable lessons on teamwork. But not all are pleased. Lios speaks. "Teamwork? Trust? Ha! That would take some doing!" With that he gets up and excuses himself from the remainder of the meal. He claims to have the scouts' first watch. The other scouts can be found to be looking around or staring into the bottom of their drinks at his outburst
Gruk cuts in. "I feel I should explain that there is a great deal of tension here. Their former sergeant died under mysterious circumstances. It is widely whispered among the troops that one of the scouts was directly responsible due to negligence of duty. All deny it of course. Most of the scouts seem to think this is the case also. I was assigned their new sergeant. They all seem competent to me, and I have seen no evidence that any of them are likely to have done this. "
The adventurers share stories of their past and seem to take a liking to the two mischievous halflings. They share their experience with the scouts and the information seems to be well-received. The scouts in turn share their meager backgrounds. Most of them were hunters or farmers before joining the Mailed Fist company. Only a few had any real training prior to becoming scouts. They were formed into a scout unit about six months ago when the army unit leaders decided a scout unit would prove useful. The most skilled individuals were selected without regard for whether they had the temperament for this kind of work.
Kit and Kat highlight: Highlight to display spoiler: { Are you looking for some kender-style mischief or looking to actually pillage some loot? }
Kazak tries his hand at diplomacy with the scouts.
Peerimus suggests a battle with orcs may be coming soon.
Trace finds that Heris seems to know a bit about tracking but not as much as Trace. He eagerly soaks up pointers on the finer parts of the skill. Heris is glad for the advice, but seems distinctly uncomfortable around Trace.
Kat finds a nice unattended silver dagger while checking out the camp. It is obviously of masterwork quality and has an intertwining leaf pattern on the hilt.
Kit finds herself in possesion of a small coin pouch that no one has yet claimed. She asks about joining the group. It would seem that those with the chaos tattoo have an affinity for finding one another and travelling together.
Firn'gaer voices some concern over the possible number of orcs. He makes a great story of his past, enrapturing those who are listening to it. Looking around with his arcane sight, he finds nothing unusual. The gear he is already familiar with on the Children of Chaos, a similiar assortment seems to be carried about by the halfling girls, a very small amount on the scouts, and the odd magic weapon or armor carried by centaur warriors.
Jurgen shares his story and introduces his hawk to those who have not met him. Mort tells Jurgen in confidence that he ran away during that fight when their sergeant was killed.
(SteveK: military ranks changed courteous of the army guy...)
Savin Wednesday February 6th, 2008 10:12:49 PM
Savin sighs as he listens to the stories. "I am one of the oldest current members of the Childrren of Chaos and to be truthful, I don't fully understand the tattoos and their powers. They mark us as instruments of chaos, but more in reigning it in, so it doesn't overwhelm the Wold.
Not long ago, with the aid of the 5 crones, we battled the Avatar of Chaos. It seems we are part of an enternal cycle. We quested for 5 powerful artifacts which are designed to limit chaos and scatter it again. Some of the artifacts had intelligence and could speak to us. They seemed to remember us from past lives and knew who we were. Very creepy if you ask me.
Anyway we were victorious in our battle and fullfilled our destinies. Now we are more independent but still heroes of the crones. I don't know what our roles in the future are supposed to be, but we have decided to take a small village under our protection and make our homes there.
Your tattoos mark us as part of our company. Any who have had them have freely joined us until they have either fallen or tired of the battle. So you want to stomp some orcs?"
Savin will try to engage the centaurs in conversation and if they continue to give him the cold shoulder will challenge one to a race. If Savin wins, they will tell of their mission and if he loses, he will stop asking and make breakfast in the morning.

Savin shares a brief background of the entire group's history.
The centaurs seem rather excited by Savin's suggestion of a competition. "Would you rather race in the dark or wait till morning?", an enthusiastic centaur asks. They begin to debate who should be their challenger, some are quicker sprinters, some have more endurance etc. They are rather animated talking about it.

He asks the dwarf Boris, "So what were ye arguin about with the elf anyway?"
"Hold on. I need another ale as ye tell the tale." Durgan pours himself another and hands one to the dwarf scout.
Kazak Wednesday February 6th, 2008 11:26:43 PM
Watching Lios walk away " does he always put himself on gaurd duty ? "asks Kazak
" And more importantanly .... what would it take to build trust and teamwork amongst yourselves ?" as the dwarfs steel grey eyes lock on each scouts for a moment
"Honesty is important too .... so stop looking into you cups " growls the dwarven warrior.
(Sergeant is the rank of the ex-leader)
Jurgen Thursday February 7th, 2008 3:21:14 PM
The sorcerer remains seated when Lios wanders off. This was certainly quite the bunch. Then again, Jurgen wonders if the Children were so different when they started off. When he first joined up, he must have given Sir Thomas and Ilsidur quite the headache. Looking back, he gave himself a headache.
He wears an outfit that any flashy adventurer would want. Designed for style and functionality. His black hair is short and well kept. He keeps it covered, until it's too dark to see his face, with a white cavalier's hat. It's fairly clear that the mace at his side is uncomfortable for him, but he makes no moves to take it off. Otherwise, he fits the the role of a dashing young man who enjoys the spotlight.
"And Savin, don't forget the visions the crones gave..." Jurgen recalls their mention and shakes his head in amazement. Glimpses of the future. He doubted his magic would ever give him the powers of a seer, but it was fascinating stuff. "Aaah a race!"
Jurgen nudges Mort at the mention of a challenge. "Savin's one of the fastest I've ever met. This should be... Well, I think it'll be too quick to be interesting." He gives a wide grin to show he's joking. He then lowers his voice so that only Mort can hear. "As for the fight when your captain was killed... We all have our fears, Mort. There was a time when the Children were going to hunt down a vampire. And... well. I left. One night, when we had made camp, I just disappeared. Ran way. Undead... scare me. The only thing that scares me more is the thought of becoming one of them." He shudders visably and takes a moment before he starts speaking again. "And while our fears tell us very important things, we must not let them control us. Once you recognize it is there, acknowledge it. Take more care. But go on. There is no weakness in fear itself, only in losing ourselves to it."
For the most part, Jurgen simply watches as events unfold around him. It was a night of relative calm. And there may not be another for a few days...
Trace and Shadow Thursday February 7th, 2008 3:42:05 PM
Trace continues to answer questions as needed but his mind seems to wander. Trace whispers to Peerimus, "the twins, where is the other one?"
Trace tall for a wood elf, he is a ranger with bow that gives off a slight glow allmost holy. He has a brown and black leather on over mithrill armor and black cloak and boots. You can see many knifes about him and two quivers on each side of his pack. He has a plain riding horse dark in color but at his heals allways watchfull is his Shadow. A black lepoard, magical beast. Trace has black hair and green eyes. Has the manner of a cat. Loyal but if approached wrong can lash out.

She says with her usual grin "I think we are too little Kat and I to stomp them but we will certainly be happy to assist in killing them" she says as she laughs. After listening to everyone's stories she says "You have all led very interesting lives. Ours was not so til not long ago. We lived simply off the land and then one day everything was uprooted and trouble found us. Ok well trouble always seemed to find us but it was mostly people thinking we stole their stuff when we were just trying to return items we found. More often than not we spent a night or two in jail for our efforts" she says with a hrummph "For whatever reason we have all been brought together here so we will join you and perhaps we will find our destiny. I must say it has been a pleasure and interesting to meet you all and thank you for not chasing us down or trying to kill or imprison us"
Savin Thursday February 7th, 2008 7:53:52 PM
Savin smiles at the thought of a race and says, "I don't want to run a marathon but anything under a mile is fine with me. I doubt I will win since you have four legs and I only have 2 but it will help pass the time and I don't mind making breakfast for a large group. You will have to provide provisions since I don't have enough but it will be fun."
Savin waits to hear the rules of the race as he listens to his companions.
The orcs [DM BrianZ] Thursday February 7th, 2008 11:04:49 PM
The meal draws to a close and the fire burns lower. Mort seems to take heart with Jurgen's advice and returns to his bedroll. Gwaeron strolls up to the area along with the warrior who left earlier.
"I have been given a good report. My second here, Faezon approved of both your stories and convictions. I am also impressed with the advice you are imparting to these 'green' scouts. It will serve them well. I will speak of the orcs for these scouts' benefit and I also inform you that our seer has agreed to meet with you in the morning."
"The orcs attacked one of our semi-permanent settlements. The purpose of their raid was very obvious. They were not just there to get into a fight or loot a few trinkets. They were raiding for a large quantity of supplies. Why they would need so much, I don't know. They did not get much from us, but we were forced to retreat when their giant allies began lobbing boulders at us."
"Our scouts followed them and observed both that they were fighting intermittently with other orc tribes and that they were raiding other creatures' settlements for supplies as well. It would be safe to say that no nearby settlements are safe."
"We cannot fight a war of attrition with orcs. That is a war we will lose. Surely you have seen the wounded in our camp. The healers have barely been able to keep them all mobile. So we gathered all that we could and have been steadily moving away from them ever since."
"I would ask that you secure for us permission to cross the human lands without incident. After that we will look for new homes. Any questions?"
sergeantGruk orders the scouts to their bedrolls. "We will need to check on the orcs and get information on their numbers and weapons before reporting back to our company. I believe Captain Gheralh will be pleased." The scouts seem both relieved at the prospect of being able to return to their army unit and nervous about going into possibly hostile territory.
The centaur warriors inform Savin that the race will be at sunrise. They seem quite pleased about the whole matter.
Gwaeron informs everyone that his warriors will be keeping watch throughout the night. "If you will be moving about, he says, inform the sentries first. I don't want any more mishaps." The last said with a sidelong glance at the scouts.
Boris informs Durgan that the arguing with Calamar was just a 'small matter' and would resolve itself soon enough.
Savin will find out more about the race in the morning.
Durgan Thursday February 7th, 2008 11:17:27 PM
"Does anyone else think we should set our own watch?"
Kazak Thursday February 7th, 2008 11:32:05 PM
Hearing Gwaeron inform them of the news of Orcs and their large allies the 4'1" dwarf nods at the news .
"Giant allies ?? ... can you be more specific ?"
"As to to why they are gathering large amounts of supplies i would say they that either the Orc population is growing or they're stockpiling it for an army of some sorts "adds Kazak
Seeing everyone start to settle in Kazak finds a nice spot under a tree and unrolls his bedroll ... and takes off his armor so he can get a restful sleep "Good night all "
Kazak lays down to sleep ....using his armor as a pillow with a blanket atop for a softer touch .... but he stares up at the stars as if searching ..... thinking.... for something for sometime before he falls fast asleep
Trace and Shadow Friday February 8th, 2008 1:52:14 AM
Trace worried when hearing about the orcs and giants. Trace speaks up "Well you cant go much further this way, you will hit ocean after a bit and human lands to the North and South." Trace walks to Peerimus "I want to head out tonight and make my way to the orcs and giants. Try and get a number on them. I think a delay in this would be costly. Going by myself will help keep the chance of being spotted down. I will leave my horse here and me and Shadow will go on foot. Once I have numbers and what we are facing then I will use a fly spell and return quickly. From what I have learned in the past "trace points to a scare on his forhead from the orc bear" is that orcs are relentless and allways trying to keep you off balance. To rest this near them will only be taking a chance of being attacked while unprepared. Unless you say otherwise I will be off. If you want I will take this half elf and use this as a training exercise."
Trace waits on Peerimus decision.
Savin Friday February 8th, 2008 11:00:43 AM
Savin is agreeable to the race being held in the morniing and hopes he can back up his mouth with his feet!
Listening to the description of the forces arrayed against them, he speaks up, "While most of us are humble in our abilities to strike down foes, I believe the Children of Chaos can help you stay in your homes. Our mages have spells which should be able to strike down large numbers of the orcs if we can catch them in camp. Our dwarven fighters specialize in fighting giant kind and working as a team should be able to lay low many of those.
Trace's bow can slay from afar and I have my own modest skills. I guess what I am saying is if this is a large raiding party, I am sure we can help drive it off. If it an army, then we can only do so much. We are honour bound to try since this also threatens our new homes and friends.
Maybe all of us can work together to defeat this foe and you can stay in your traditional homeland knowing you have stout and loyal friends living close by."
When Trace announces his intentions of scouting the enemy, Savin says, "Trace, I want to come along as well. Another set of eyes can be useful and I can move more quickly and silently than most. I also wonder if we should bring our new halfling friends. I have a feeling they can move more quietly then both of us and it would be a good way to evaluate their skills to see where they will fit in our group."

Jurgen Friday February 8th, 2008 3:04:35 PM
Jurgen responds to Gwaeron's request, "We will ensure you have the permission you need. It may be enough to carry our mark on your person, but we'll figure it out."
"Durgan, I am less worried about these taurs now. I'm not sure if our own watch is necessary, although I will take the first one regardless to speak with Lios. It appears that we're going to be going after the orcs tomorrow. The more rest we get, the better we will be. That is going to be a... grueling fight." Jurgen shakes his head. "If this force of centaurs were forced to retreat... Against an army, we may be able to use hit and run tactics to take them out."
"I think that sounded like a yes?" He looks to Peerimus with a curious eye. "Just be careful you two. Don't get yourselves into a fight you can't win. If you're not back by morning, we're going to coming tearing through that army." He laughes quietly at the image of Kazak, Durgan, Yorrick and himself charging at an army of orcs.
Jurgen then goes off to take first watch, finding Lios and starting a conversation with him, trying to figure out his frustration. "So, not a big fan of your mates?"

Leaving his horse behind Trace and Shadow move out with the half elf scout, Savin along with the halflings Kit and Kat. Trace ask Savin and the Halflings to move in single file behind him as to hide their numbers and follow his foot steps as best as they can. Moving along Trace will Trace the Taurs movment into the camp back the way they came hopeing this would lead to the orcs. Keeping his eyes and ears trained Trace shows a finger to his lips and two to his eyes before he continues to move out. After a considerable distance Trace will begin to blend into the area and look and listen to what is around.

Looking for orcs [DM BrianZ] Sunday February 10th, 2008 11:23:02 PM
Notes: Pass without trace active on Trace, Savin, Kit, and Kat -dur 14 hours
Several scout show they would like to accompany you. They even seem eager to do so, however Gruk orders them to their racks. If there was any fighting to be done, the unit would be rested. None of them put up too much protest as the heroes leave.
Kit, Kat, Savin, and Trace(and Shadow!) head out into the night. The centaur guards let them pass and even offer taur battle-prayers as they leave. It doesn't take long to pick up the centaurs trail, however it is better concealed than you would have expected. Not too difficult for excellent trackers like the heroes, but an average orc would have a tough time picking it up. It would seem the taurs have a few skilled woodsmen themselves.
You are able to follow in the general direction towards the orcs. The light rain hampers your efforts slightly, but after 4 hours you come across an abandoned orc campsite. You can tell that this spot was used many days ago. The centaur camp should be safe for the night. But what to do now? Return to the camp or press on? ...
Jurgen is able to engage Lios in a bit of conversation. "No, I don't trust any of 'em. One of them was directly responsible for the death of our previous sergeant. It has yet to be revelaed which one. My money is on Tarkin. I'd keep a close eye on him if I were you."
The centaurs seem to have settled down for the night aside from the sentries.
Savin Monday February 11th, 2008 8:43:45 AM
Savin looks at Trace and then the others, "We have travelled for half the night already and it would take the rest of the night to even get back to our friends. Why don't you let me go on ahead. You can head back to the camp, report in what we found so far to give the taurs some peace of mind and I will meet you back there. I can travel much faster alone and should be able to track down the orcs and thier allies faster."
(ooc I am assuming the orcs and giants left easily followed tracks assuming their numbers are large)
Trace and Shadow d20+16=34 d20+16=34 d20+15=32 d20+8=24 d20+11=12 Monday February 11th, 2008 2:24:16 PM
Trace thinks a bit, fast is not the problem, I dont want them to see us to begin with. If you are seen and then take off running. They will then have some way to a fresh track.
Kit and Kat, go with the Scout and report our findings and that me and Savin will move a bit further to see what direction the orcs are heading. I have a fly potion that I will use if needed to escape if needed. As we get closer I will do what I can to hide our tracks when the spell wares off as not to give them any way to find the taurs or us.
We need numbers, direction, and what exactly that we are fighting.
Jurgen Monday February 11th, 2008 4:31:39 PM
Jurgen spends the rest of the watch considering Lios' words. He wonders at how exactly he was supposed to confirm that Tarkin was responsible. Regardless, Jurgen would indeed be careful of the scout. And would pass on the message to the Children. But in the morning. For now, he needed sleep.
He doesn't bother waking any of the other Children. The taurs were guarding the camp well. He crawled into his sleeping roll and passed out.

The trackers [DM BrianZ] Monday February 11th, 2008 9:25:29 PM
Kat and Kit return to the centaur camp to report in. An orc campsite has been found, but no sign of orcs yet.
Savin and Trace continue to follow the tracks. By daybreak they have come across another orc campsite. This one seems used more recently.
Survival DC 15: Highlight to display spoiler: { It looks like the orc raiders number at least 60. }
Survival DC 20: Highlight to display spoiler: { There is evidence that large canines are present. }
Survival DC 25: Highlight to display spoiler: { You are able to count six sets of giant footprints. }
Survival DC 30: Highlight to display spoiler: { The raiding party looks like they headed north and were angling east... towards Heranmar! }
Morning dawns on the centaur camp. The centaur healers attend the wounded, the guard is changed, and food is served. The fare is much the same as the night before. As you are eating, you are informed that after the morning meal, you may visit with...the seer.
The scouts have an orderly and quiet morning. They are up early and pack up their gear for travel before they eat. There is a sense that they hope to complete their assignment soon so that they may return to their Mailed Fist unit. There is opportunity for anyone to speak with any of them if you wish.

dc 31 (watch the single digits start to fall when battle starts)
Trace and Shadow mill about the second camp, he sees that the orcs are large in number but manageable if done right. When the giant tracks are found he spits on them. Filthy giants, they even have dogs too.
Trace stops dead in his tracks as he realizes the direction the orcs are headed. "Savin!, there headed to Hernamar!" Quick, run back to the group and tell them what we have found and what we are up against. I will move quicly to Hernamar and get them to flee and stay with what group there is left to fight. I figure most could set sail to safty till this is done.
Trace will make his way fast as he possibly can to Hernamar, if he comes upon the orcs he will swing wide and make his way around them. If close enough Trace will consume a flying potion to make the trip quicker.
If this can be done in quick enough, Trace will alert the towns folk and see to the defense of Hernamar.
(ooc:what is the population of Hernamr? I have allways imagined 500 men women and children. that includes the shore line and farm side as well.)
Peerimus and Yorrick Tuesday February 12th, 2008 9:25:24 AM
Peerimus will offer his healing skills to the centaurs before settling in for the evening. If accepted he will use all magical healing he has. (2 CMW, 1 CSW, 1 CCW and 2 Heal) Peerimus will then find a good spot to bed down with Yorrick and shifts to bear form to sleep. The following morning, Peerimus awakens at first light as he always does and finds a comfortable spot in the grass and breaking dawn to thank Mother and Father and prepare his spells. Peerimus will hold off on casting the Commmune until after the group speaks with the seer.
Peerimus will tell the scouts that he will make sure to get more information to them on what he uncovers about the orcs and possible allies.

Jurgen Tuesday February 12th, 2008 12:05:16 PM
Jurgen takes his time getting up and packing up his stuff. While he did get some worthwhile information from Lios, staying up for the first watch wasn't something the sorcerer was used to. Traveling alone, one didn't have the opportunity to set up a guard. Instead, he'd just learned to sleep lightly. Which cost him a few winks last night, with the tribe of taurs around. He takes his time that morning to spend some time meditating and readying his spells.
At breakfast, Jurgen is quiet. With two of his friends tracking what could be an army of orcs, his mood was somber. He does speak with Mort, just making casual conversation. For the most part, his mind is readying itself for the coming battle. There would be a lot of blood shed. And if the Children were very, very careful, none of it would be their own.
"It looks like Savin and Trace won't be around to meet with this seer. I don't want to rush such a meeting, but I'm not a fan of us being split up." He speaks quietly to the group and then grins. "Besides, if we wait too long, they'll have cleaned up the whole lot before we can even get there."
Firn'gaer Tuesday February 12th, 2008 1:39:43 PM
Firn'gaer wakes from his meditation and spends the time required to prepare the few spells he used from the day before. He considers a battle against orcs and giants. He starts to think about a plan.
Savin d20=7 Tuesday February 12th, 2008 1:44:41 PM
Savin looks down at the tracks and then up at Trace with a look of concern. He doesn't understand what the tracks mean and is happy that Trace can read them like Firn'gaer can read magic script.
Savin gets a good feel on the number of opponents both giant, canine and orc. Will ask if Trace can tell the types of each. Can he tell what kind of giant? Can he tell what kind of canine? Wolf, dire wolf, dog, worg etc? Once he has this information, he will start jogging back towards the centaur camp.
(ooc not sure how long I can jog and what my actual speed will be. I have a base move of 70'. How long will it take. I am assuming it whould be about a 1/4 of the time that it took me to get to the current point. Might even run into the halflings.)

A prophecy [DM BrianZ] Tuesday February 12th, 2008 9:22:55 PM
The centaurs are very grateful to Peerimus for lending his healing skills. With his aid, all of the injured centaurs now appear to be in relatively good shape.
The heroes are escourted to the seer's tent after the morning meal. Most of the scouts tag along, curious about the proceedings. An elderly female centaur emerges and smiles at the group. You can sense her good nature and the wisdom of her years as she speaks. "Greetings. I am told you have done good service to my people. You have settled a dispute with these soldiers, and aided in healing our wounded. In return, I have agreed with the tribe's leaders to cast a minor divination spell for you. You see, I had a vision that the Children would come to us. What it means however I cannot say."
She begins the spell, but then shudders and a starry field looks out of her wide eyes. This does not appear to be the spell you were expecting.
"Children of Chaos, hear our plea The signs are there for those who see Tower of Light with anger will leave Noble Race hammer and bow will cleave Gates be many, gates be none Before the Great Migration is done Yet beware the side that seeks not change For..."
And the centaurs' eyes return to normal as she slumps in exhaustion.
Before the words even have time to sink in, Savin bursts into the camp, two centaur guards on either side hurrying him in. He appears to have something to say...
Trace makes his way rapidly through the lightly forested terrain, Shadow by his side. He is sure of their direction now and it makes him shudder. The town guard is nowhere near ready to take on the likes of giants. He has not caught up to the raiding party yet. It would appear there may still be time to catch them before they reach the town.
OOC- Savin and Trace have all the info from the previous post due to the good survival check.

Savin Tuesday February 12th, 2008 11:14:38 PM
Savin gasps out, "The war party of orcs, giants and some kind of canine is heading for Heranmar. We need to get back before they arrive or the town is gonna get overrun!
Trace and Shadow are still tracking the party while I ran back to warn you and get you moving!"
Savin will then bend over and grasp his knees breathing hard. It has been a long night. He spies the centaur he challenged to a race and ruefully says, "I am gonna have to postpone our wager. Please forgive me but I am still looking forward to it."
Kazak Tuesday February 12th, 2008 11:24:52 PM
"Yer just jealous " grins the dwarf to his brother
Listening quietly as he hears the Seer's prophecy " what does it mean ?" grumbles Kazak as he ponders it " it ends like dat ?"
" hear our plea ? ... who's asking ?? "
knowing he's not gonna get answers to all his question or even asnswers to the prophecy itself this quickly the dwarven soldier just relies on dwarven patience " guess we'll have to think on it and try and figure it out as we go " growls Kazak
Firn'gaer d20+9=14 Wednesday February 13th, 2008 12:25:40 AM
Firn'gaer listens to the seer, but isn't sure what to make of the news. Great Migration, KS(history) DC14, it seems that whatever this is you can bet we'll be drawn in the the middle of it. There's no doubt.
"I think that will require a little contemplation, and perhaps a trip to Hook City to learn more about the possible interpretation of the vision."
Savin breaks camp with the bad news. Firn'gaer sinks. "I figured we would face them, but not on our doorstep. First order of business is getting back - quickly. I can take four others with me. I would suggest Jurgen, Peerimus, Durgen, and Kazak." He says at first glance. "If you," looking at Peerimus, "can tree transport, I can take someone else. If that's the case, then I would take Savin. What we'll need when we arrive are someone to engage the giants," he looks at the dwarves, "while Jurgen, Peerimus, and I decimate and hinder the orcs with magic."
"If there are no other questions, I'm ready to leave as soon as possible."

Peerimus and Yorrick d20+26=38 Wednesday February 13th, 2008 9:20:36 AM
Peerimus gives a nod to the seer. He was glad to be able to have helped yesterday. A much better start to being able to call the centaurs friends and allies. The seer's dameanor gains his full attention and his mind quickly begins to disseminate the phrases. Peerimus turns to Firngear, he also recieved a glimpse of the future, and is about to say something when Savin arrives. "Grim news indeed."
Peerimus turns back to the centaurs, "Our apologies, but we must be swiftly away. We will find you again to continue as soon as possible." Peerimus then begins walking and gathering the group.
"Yes Firngaer, I can take myself, Yorrick and 2 others. I will take Kat, Kit and Savin if you can take Durgan, Kazak and Jurgen. We leave now. Firngaer, we'll meet you at teh inn." He then scans quickly for a large tree that grows in his grove. With that he gathers Kat, Kit, Savin and Yorrick and casts Transport Via Plants. In the blink of an eye, he and the others step out into the serene woods.
"I believe airial recon is in order and I have the perfect tool for that job, but first let's get to the Inn, Firngaer will already be there." Leaving Wanderwood and the Liveoak with thier standing orders, Peerimus, shifts to a bear and hurries towards Heranmar with Yorrick.

Jurgen and Shay Wednesday February 13th, 2008 12:44:15 PM
The seer's words (although Jurgen suspected that they weren't the seer's at all) etch into his mind. They'd have to sta-. "Savin... Where's Tra-" And again, Jurgen is stopped mid-thought. "Heranmar? Kit and Kat, ask Savin or Peerimus to fill you in on our hometown..." Hearing the group start talking of teleports, Jurgen looks to the seer. He wished he had a moment to help her recover. Instead, he turns to one of the guards that escorted Savin.
"We have to go. Please, give our thanks to Gwaeron and the seer. Both for their hospitality and the prophecy. Not to mention the information on the orcs. We owe a great debt to you. Ask Gwaeron to send a message to Heranmar for us, after your tribe settles down somewhere." He rummaged through his bag looking for a piece of parchment. When he finds one, he leaves his Arcane Mark on it (the Chaos spiral, with a small J in the center). "Give this to Gwaeron. Tell him I will make sure your tribe has safe passage, but if anyone bothers you before that, this may help. It should mark you as friends of the Children of Chaos."
He then grabs onto Firn'gaer, ready for teleport. Just before the spell is cast, he has another message for the guard. "The scouts! Tell them why we had to go. Tell Mort I'll see him later." Then he shuts up, having spoken far too much.
After the teleport, Shay leaps off Jurgen's arm and into the sky. He is up and out of sight before Jurgen even needs to ask him to find the orcs. The sorcerer turns to the dwarves and Firn'gaer with a worried look in his eyes. "We need to take the fight to the orcs, not let them bring the fight to the city. There's too much at risk. We should also warn... the guards? We don't want to create a panic."
While they decide, he starts preparing himself for the coming battle. He casts Mage Armor and Overland Flight on himself.

Trace concentrates on Peerimus and tries to communicate concentraiting on the spiral hopeing that it might come in use.
Kit'Miara Wednesday February 13th, 2008 4:49:10 PM
"Wow that was so cool, can we do it again? Can we? Can we?" Kit says obviously having enjoyed their mode of transportation. She looks around at her surroundings and is impressed. She turns to Savin and says "Please can you tell us about your hometown? It will be so much better to know something about where we are for once and I am interested in knowing where you all are from" She beams a wide smile, her green eyes filled with curiousity.
Savin Wednesday February 13th, 2008 5:50:37 PM
Savin listens to the conversation about teleports and tree walking and hears he might be left behind. He understands the logic but the unjustice irks him. He walks over to Peerimus and gives him a light punch in the arm to get his attention.
"I marched all day yesterday to get here, tracked most of the night to find the orc band and then ran all the way back here to warn you of it, and now you want me to run home? I am glad you are confident in my abilities but if you want my aid in fighting the giants, you better find me a magical way home!"
Once Savin is teleported back to Heranmar, and hears the halfling's Kit's question, he will invite the two rogues to tour the town with him, showing them the highlights, his house, the tavern they normally stay at while explaining the history of the town and its importance to the group.
"Heranmar is where everything started for the Children of Chaos. I am talking even before my time. This is where the original founders of the adventuring group first came to the Southern Continenant and got their tattoos. This is where they rang the Chaos Bell and were tasked to defeat chaos. This is the area where they first met the five crones and were put on the path to fulfulling their destinies.
For whatever reason many of our adventures started here and we have grown to realize that somehow we are attached to this place, tied to it and decided to semi settle down here and make it our base of operations.
I have my school. Peerimus has his sacred grove out in the woods. The dwarven brothers are putting down roots as well starting a quarry I think. It is a good place and the citizens have grown to trust us over the years which is why we need to protect them from this latest threat."
Savin leads the two sisters back to Peerimus and asks, "So boss, what is the plan? Do we have a way of contacting Trace and finding out where the foul orcs and their allies are?
Preparations [DMBrianZ] Wednesday February 13th, 2008 8:52:49 PM
Gwaeron graciously accepts Jurgens' mark and extends his hand for a shake. "Good journey to you and good luck."
"Our warrior looks forward to challenging Savin in a race also. After seeing that you ran quite a distance to warn us, I suspect that will be some race!"
The Children of Chaos begin to ponder the meaning of the prophecy, but time is short. A plan is made and the group uses powerful magic to return to Heranmar. Savin complains briefly before he realizes that there is room for him to come along after all.
The scouts are both bewildered and amazed at how quickly the group reacts to the danger and forms a plan and then acts upon it. Before any of them even have a chance to speak, you are already gone.
The Children have returned to Heranmar. What to do now? Should you warn the guard? As you wait, Savin gives the twins a brief tour and spellcasters begin long term preparations. A battle plan is needed but where is the battle-captain?...
Trace finds the orcs about two hours after Savin left him to return to the others. They appear to have stopped for a break. There is a lot of activity however. An orc leader begins giving orders. Trace highlight if you can speak orc: Highlight to display spoiler: { OK, me want all giants to gather rocks for throwin', and all orcs restin for da big fight. And get them big doggies into tha woods and make sure no one is about. We gonna give those humies sumthin ta remember us by. heheheheh } Trace can hear movement in the woods. He is in position, but may not be able to hold it for long. There is still a chance to catch the orcs out here away from town while they rest, but how to inform the others?...
OOC-take it away Steve, with a sweeping flourish of his arm...
Durgan Wednesday February 13th, 2008 9:54:28 PM
As Kit goes on about how enjoyable teleporting is, Durgan complains about it. You'd think he'd rather walk.
"Durned telly-portin magics! Why if me great Auntie Stella woulda seen that she woulda disowned me!"
As loud as the dwarf may be growling, you get the sense that he is glad to be back in town quickly enough to do something about defending it.

Trace and Shadow Thursday February 14th, 2008 2:08:52 AM
After mulling over several options of what action that might be taken, the only one that would have a clear objective is to move on past the group and to Hernamar to give more spefics about what he has seen and where the enemy is along with preperations they are doing.
Trace will pick a spot that is best between him and the oncoming dogs and cast entangle. Then he drinks down a potion of fly. He scoops up Shadow and flies as fast as he can once out of sight of the enemy to Hernamar.
Once he is back he will relay to Peerimus and the others what he has heared and seen. "The orcs are going to have the giants hurling rocks at the town with the dogs to pick off the fleeping people. People that can not defend the town should make there way to the boats and head for safty till this blows over. I think we need a some way to shield the town from the rocks, I will fly high and show at the giants as for the orcs, if the giants continue to hurl rocks then I can pick them off over time the rest will need to destroy the orcs and dogs. Hopefully we can kill a large number of them at a single time. A powerfull spell maybe? Anyone have suggestions. Of course this will change when the giants move forward to get into the hand to hand combat. Formations will change at that time. I will also summon two dire wolves to attack what dogs they have in the begining.

Kit listens to Savin with great interest and totally enjoys her tour of the town. Perhaps she and her sister can find a place here as well seeing as they no longer really have a home. She is delighted to learn of the various places that the Children have found for themselves her and hopes that when time affords they will each give her a tour of them.
Worried a little of the impending battle as they have had lots of trouble recently she double checks all of her equipment to make sure everything is in perfect shape then readies herself with the others. Her favourite weapon the crossbow she has ready.
