Vorelle's best recollection leaves Priscilla's home near the town of Abud in the northern forest near the lake, but as Priscilla's house is mobile, she is right in that it really could be anywhere. And more often than not when someone is actually searching for it it usually has a way of not being where you want it to be.
Val gloomily points out that the darker way leading into the forest is likely to be their path through the forest and Vauhwyt agrees ut seems to be a relatively upbeat mood about it and starts playing her flute. Moments later Mookine begins to sing and just about everyone cringes at the crawking song.
As the group settles into where they are going to be ordered in their march, The woods looms over and around them. This forest still seems to be pretty much first growth with trees easily several hundred years old filling the woods with their dark shadows.
There is almost a constant whirring sound moving through the woods as if there is an undertone of a light whisper or perhaps a light steady breathing. It is soft and nearly hypnotic as is the rhythmic swayign of the mossy beards and smaller saplings along the path. Every now and again you hear the soft flapping of wings but never do you actually see the birds. The air is heavy and dry feeling and there is a great sense of age and sleepiness that assaults you as you walk along the path that leads deeper into the woods.
It is after almost an hours walk through this mildly oppressive atmosphere that you realize that the path you were following has changed and somehow you are heading back the way you came or somehow the sun has changed positions or something even stranger has occurred.

When Apollo gives the commands Lorth thinks,I guess Apollo is this groups tactician and leader, much like Bralin was in my last group of friends...
Lorth walks through the forest at whatever spot in the parade of people that he is assigned to. He keeps his eyes open and tries to spot the birds that he keeps hearing...

Interjects his thoughts. Um, Appolo, perhaps as a Clergyman I should be somewhere in the middle instead of pulling up the rear. Like our friend Malgant says, I should be someplace where I can do the most good instead of being hindered by position.
Whoa, does anyone else feel that? Its like something is taking control of our surroundings.

"Malgant can you feel the presence of evil around us? There is something unnaural about these woods."

DM Kent d4=3 Thursday February 28th, 2008 11:12:58 PM
Olyn and Val realize that they have somehow wandered into an alive area of the forest where the trees and plants are actually to some degreee sentient and mobile and have shifted to make the path they were recently travelling, vanish and be replaced by another one heading elsewhere, while appearing to be the same path. Their main recognition came from the fact that suddenly the wind blown moss was suddenly blowing the opposite way than before and the moss on the trees had shifter 180 degrees.
Bart pulls out the wayfinder and begins to try and use it though he is not certain of his attempted target. Whether due to the Woods' magical properties or some other influence the trance comes upon him very suddenly and he is almost immediately being whipped along an ethereal path that first takes him directly north and then suddenly stops him dead in his flight and shoves him back into his body and full awareness.
The abruptness of the stoppage nearly drops him to his knees and he does physically sag for a moment before cathing himself as the penalty for the artifacts use is imposed upon him. Loss of 3 points constitution, will be recovered at a rate of 1 point per day.
As Bart fully regains his composure you all realize that the Forest has actually moved in closer around you and that you are now standing in what appears to be a small clearing, with no apparent path leading out of it.
Malgant d20+7=21 d20+6=26 Friday February 29th, 2008 1:22:01 AM
" I cannot feel anything, Lorth, How about you?" LOoking around, Malgant does become aware of how close the trees are growing, and that their path has all but disappeared. Malgant begins to feel uneasy since it seems that the woods are becoming hostile, yet he does not want to provoke the woods which drawing his greatsword cetainly would do. " I do however think that a more defensive posture might be a good idea. Stay near me so that I am able to better protect you all. I am thinking of something like a ring, facing out with me on the inside. If need be I will be able to fight over your heads." As he finishes speaking Malgant does a few things. In Tauric he speaks the words Guard me to cause his shield to detach from its position on his back and take up a guard position in front of him. He also speaks a short prayer to Domi using his granted powers to grow to Huge size so that more of his friends can be close to him.

Vauhwyt smiles and does not worry. Maybe the feeling of well-being that the forest inspires in Mookie is spilling into her, too.
She says to Malgant, "Hey big boy! Don't worry. I think this is all part of the master plan!"
She casts Reduce Person on herself, and Shield (spell fail checks are A-OK), and plays her flute. (Perform 13)
Mookie caws, "Boss, thats what you said just before you blew up that magic item you were fiddling with that time!"
Vauhwyt answers, grinning, "Hush up, Mookie!"

"These trees are an abomination to the natural order. Gargul may wish for their demise. Though if they intrude any more I shall defend myself accordingly."
Malgant Friday February 29th, 2008 4:45:16 PM
" My impression was that the forest was getting a feel for what kind of people we are Vauhwyt. I am not overly alarmed, yet. I just want to be sure that all of you can be close to me (within 5 feet) in case that the forest decides that we mean it harm. Being bigger just means there is more of me to be close to." To Val's comment he says " I am not so sure that they are an abomination Val. Look at it this way, these plants are further evolved than most plants you or I may be used to. That means they can think and decide what to do for themselves, just like people. That can either work for us or against us just like it would go if they were people. If we offend them they may become hostile. If they decide we are not a threat and just want to pass through, Like we actually were planning, then they can draw back and let us pass." Malgant holds off on any further spellcasting for the moment, allowing the forest to decide what they are up to and how it will react. His hands are empty, but he stands ready to pull his greatsword and invoke Domi's power to protect the rest of them should the forest decide they are to be attacked.

As you all form up on Malgant and Mookie is called for and makes sure his presence is known and heard about, Vorelle, Olyn and Val realize what it is they weren't quite recognizing as they watch 8 15 foot tall beings, treants, separate themselves from the forest and move in toward you. As they doo the space they were in is quickly filled in by what appear to be regular moving trees.
At just about 15 feet away they stop in front of you and appear to be looking down at you all.
One that looks like an Oak tree speaks.
"Sssoooo, thisss is whaaaawt waasss caaaalled. Theeessss aawwwre theee onssssse? They doo nawt looook lahk muwwwwch tooo meeeee. They loook fraillll ahnd wwweeeak."

Bart feels weak and seeing the talking trees he knows it was a wrong time to use the wayfinder why jasnt he thinked about it yesterday. Stupid. He knows its the wrong time to ask for a restauretion spell and he keeps his mouth shut and he waits to tell the others that they have to go north to meet Prescilla. There will be time to do that after they dealt with the treants, fight and death or help and survival
Vauhwyt and Mookie Saturday March 1st, 2008 6:35:02 AM
Truly, Vauhwyt has shown no fear, but only delight since setting foot in the wood. Not only is immunity to fear a class feature for the Avenger, but she has nothing but fond memories of this forest.
So when her laughter rings out, it is not filled with mockery or scorn, but with glad amusement.
"Oh, good tree-friends," the liontaur laughs, "We may not look like much, but we will surprise you! Please, do send us to our friend Priscilla, for we have come to help."
She pauses and tries to remember the omens.
"We are answering the wood's call to fight evil in your cause. We'll do the job through fire and water and storms. We'll get the fire skull to help us and we'll find the sword that was lost."
"That's what the oracle said, and that's why we're herre." A touch of accent in her voice shows that maybe she is just the littlest bit nervous.
"Good job, Boss," says Mookie.
"Thanks!" murmurs Vauhwyt.

Val Sunday March 2nd, 2008 9:53:19 PM
She eases the string back but leaves the arrow notched. Val didn't know how strong trees were but she was guessing very.
"We aren't here to harm the forest. We are here to unravel the mystery of our summons. To the purpose we were brought to this place."
Lorth Monday March 3rd, 2008 7:48:09 AM
Lorth arches a eyebrow at Val, when she muses about Gargul's will. But then he turns back to face the trees, concentrating, his hand comes to his temple and he looks lost in thought. (Detect evil 60' paladin ability) When the trees speak he continues to concentrate, he shows no reaction to their discussion.

Vauhwyt and Mookie Wednesday March 5th, 2008 7:02:43 AM
The liontaur bows deeply, and feels priviliged to have met these incredible tree-folk.
"Thank you, noble guardians of the wood," she says. "Your kindness makes my heart glad. I have not seen your like in my short life, but I am happy that now I have."
"Laying it on a bit thick, there, huh Boss?" caws Mookie.
Normally Vauhwyt would throttle the bird and stuff him into her belt pouch, but seeing as this forest seems to like black birds, maybe that is not such a good idea. So she just ignores him and says to the ents, "And if you would like to give us a message, we would be glad to deliver it to Priscilla."
Appolo Wednesday March 5th, 2008 10:28:14 AM
Appolo says thanks and moves quickly down the path"Ok folks make some noise and stay on the path.North bound ,two days.Moonlight.Vorrel Valanthe would you two mind taking the lead agaib. It would be much appreciated."
Lorth Wednesday March 5th, 2008 10:30:56 AM
Lorth concentrates harder on the immediate area, it seems he is having a problem with his connection to Gargul. He slowly kneels to the ground, and starts a prayer to calm himself. (Detect evil again).

Vauhwyt d20+4=14 Wednesday March 5th, 2008 5:41:49 PM
As she starts walking, Vauhwyt continues to play her flute.
Perform 14.
Mookie is quiet for a change.
DM Kent Wednesday March 5th, 2008 8:45:55 PM
Lorth still feels no evil emanating from those within the clearing and general area as they take to the path, in fact the sense of the area generally feels rather neutral.
The path seems to be a lot smoother and even a bit wider and surprisingly there do not appar to be the number of branches and brambles impeding you ways like before. It is almost as if it is now letting you pass unmolested.
After a bit of walking Vorelle hears some shuffling and rustling from behind, and turns back to see what is making the noise where she finds that the path they are walking on is closing up behind them as they pass.
The morning and early afternoon pass without any incidents and the the party is making good progress though Vauhwyt is getting a bit tired of playing. The evening fast approaches and it is soon obvious to all that the moons will be full tonight.
The ath appears to continue straight northward though it also continues to close back up behind you as you move forward.
Malgant Wednesday March 5th, 2008 11:10:15 PM
As the day draws on Malgant asks the group what they should do to keep the woods awake while they sleep. " Do we have a plan for sleeping tonight? I certainly do not want to become lost in time, but the plan I have isn't terribly fun. Probably won't be fun for the rest of you either. We didn't stop for wind chimes or anything that will make noise unaided. If Vauhwyt doesn't mind, I could try and learn to play the flute tonight. Since I have pretty much no musical talent I can assure you that the woods will remain awake. Sadly the rest of you may find it hard to sleep too. I can compensate for the fatigue I will feel in the morning with the prayers I asked for this morning. Do we have any other options?"
Bart Thursday March 6th, 2008 3:06:50 AM
A very strange forrest with even stranger creatures. I dont play any music, but does the sounds of blades clinging together as well? I can train some of you in some fighting techniques.
By the way is there someone who can cast a restoration spell on me? I dont feel so well.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday March 6th, 2008 6:44:33 AM
Vauhwyt hears Bart's plea for a Lesser Restoration. She looks around, looking for Olyn ...
"Oh dearr," she says, her accent betraying her concern. "It seems we have lost Olyn again."
She looks at the rest of her new friends.
Aztyr is an arcanist, like herself. Vorelle is a ranger, but not the kind who casts spells. Appolo said he was a "pirate and thief," and he called Bart a "pirate and fighter." No one to cast Lesser Restoration so far.
Val is the kind of ranger who casts spells. Lorth, a paladin, can too. And Malgant is a full-fledged cleric -- the only one in the party now, it seems.
"Sorry, Bart," Vauhwyt says to the weakened warrior.
Mookie caws with laughter. "Week-end Warrior! The Boss thinks you're a Week-end Warrior!"
"HUSH, Mookie!" chides Vauhwyt. "Anyway, maybe Malgant or Lorth or Val can help you."
"Maybe we should get a wand of Lesser Restoration for the party."
It is true that Vauhwyt -- no trained performer -- is getting tired of playing. "My lips hurt!" she complains.
"At least you HAVE lips!" says Mookie.
"Anyway," the liontaur continues, ignoring the bird, "my understanding is that anyone can sing, and the more the merrierr, so to speak. Just do something simple, like 'Row Row Row Your Boat.' Anyone can sing that!"
"Whoever is on watch at night should sing. That way we'll keep the forest awake through the dark hours."
"Come on, you all! Don't be shy! Really, we DON'T want the forest to go to sleep! So open your mouths and sing!"
Lorth Thursday March 6th, 2008 7:18:55 AM
Lorth follows along taking in all the strangeness of the forest.
When asked to sing, he cants a prayer of Garguls,
God send death end misery Preaching Gargul's ministry Pray for faith and shatter sin Down on your knees It is your time to die
Death is over due Nothing can save you It's Garguls symphony Taking life from you Is all I wanna do The desire of Gargul This is what lives inside me...
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday March 6th, 2008 8:18:14 AM
Vauhwyt leans over to whisper to Vorelle, "That's a gloomy song. I always like that other Gargul hymn better. What was it called, Mookie?"
"The Circle of Life, Boss!" says Mookie. "You were humming it for weeks."
"Oh yeah. Well, that one was much sweeterr," says Vauhwyt.
"You just liked it because of the Lion King," says Mookie. "You like all that cat stuff."
"I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about," says Vauhwyt.
Val Thursday March 6th, 2008 10:31:42 AM
"We should take watch in pairs. I'll sit up with Malgant. Lucky I slip into reverie instead of sleeping. The singing shouldn't bother me much. We need to find a magical singing box. I remember a few elvish songs from when I was a child but singing all night long? That will be tough."
Appolo Thursday March 6th, 2008 11:39:38 AM
Appolo looks around"Ok folks. We need to keep moving through the night. They said the trail would be easier with the moonlight. So I thinkwe should press on.No one said this would be easy.So let's just keep moving forward. We'll rest when we reach Prisicla's place."Appolo the moves forward singing rather loudlya bawdy dirty pirate song with more thena few choice words about drinking and woman. He can be more then clearly heard as follows the path by the silvery moonlight.
Vorelle Thursday March 6th, 2008 12:55:27 PM
"I-I ag-gree with A-Appollo," says Vorelle softly. "W-we sh-should k-k-keep m-moving."
She turns and casts a meaningful eye at the path behind her, being covered up by the forest.
"I-it m-m-might n-not st-st-stop for us," she adds.
Bart Thursday March 6th, 2008 4:42:17 PM
Hmm i could use a rest, maybe we can set up camp for a few hours let's say we march until midnight and leave at 4 before sunset
Kent Thursday March 6th, 2008 10:14:46 PM
As folks eat their evening meal discussion breaks out as there seems to be some disagreement about whether to set up camp here or keep going. The sky is clear and appears like it is likely to stay that way, and with the two moons full casting their silvery light walking should be little problem, though it is darker under the trees. Then there is the fact that at least one of your party is not in his best shape for some reason.
Whta will the final decision be.
Will they stay? or Will they Go?
Aztyr Thursday March 6th, 2008 10:22:47 PM
"I believe the Trees said we would find the path under the moonlight. I'm not sure what's ailing our friend who used whatever that device was, but if the trees said moonlight, I don't think we should go against what they told us to do." Aztyr has voiced her opinion, but will do whatever the group decides....
Vauhwyt Thursday March 6th, 2008 10:28:25 PM
"They said to follow this path until the silver light is high. So we should walk until the moon is high, then camp, I think."
"They said it was two days travel. We need to rest at least once in that time."

Malgant begins to pray in a low deep voice in Tauric. (cast lesser restoration on Bart restoring 3 con)" As for whether or not to camp I think Appolo, Vorelle and Aztyr have it right. We have no passive method of keeping the forest awake while we rest so pushing on through the night and following the instructions of the trees sounds like a good plan to me. I have to think about it and next time i want to use it warn me that i must choose the right time not at the start of a long march but before that.
Well if we have to follow the moon light path we will march, i feel better now let's go!
Vorelle and Champ Saturday March 8th, 2008 4:36:14 AM
Vorelle, too, keeps moving. "I m-m-may not n-n-need any m-m-magic," she says. She knows from experience that she can keep going past the point where most would be too tired to continue. [OOC: Rangers get Endurance as a bonus feat]
Champ is still friendly and curious, but even his natural exuberance is a little dimmed by the overwhelming forest. He stays close by Vorelle's side, occasionally growling when a tree moves close by.
DM Kent Saturday March 8th, 2008 8:03:30 AM
The march goes ever onward and traveling through this woods at night is not very pleasant. First there areall the odd looking disembodied glowing eyes that are to be seen at varying levels of the forest and canopy. Even stranger is when those with dark vision also see nothing but the eyes.
Then there are the sounds. The soft background whirring and wooshing is still there but those have now been joined by a soft painful sounding human-like moan and interspersed terrifying screams. About every ten minutes or so everything goes absolutely still and a great sense of lethargy sweeps over you. Moon high can't coe fast enough for you and just as you realize the moon is full, your path ends.
No longer do you have fairly open sky above you letting in the moonlight. Now everything is very dark with just bits of dappling seeping through the thick canopy of branches and leaves above you.
Gone also are all those sounds you had gotten so used to hearing. It is absoluetly silent. There is not even the sound of an insect chirping. It is absoluelty unnatural.
The air is also suddenly warmer as that small breeze that had been accompanying you is gone as well. The only sounds you hear are those of your making and they now sound extremely harsh to your ears, grating on the nerves and sound terribly out of place. Will DC 22 or slowly stop singing and making any noise and try listening to hear anything in the forest.
It is almost as if all the life in the forest and surrounding Wold has vanished leaving only yourselves in a desolate landscape.
Malgant d20+9=13 Saturday March 8th, 2008 8:56:15 AM
Malgant falls silent Listening intently for some sound in the unnatural stillness. He extends his sense i=of hearing as far as it will go. He craves the light his sword would shed. He knows it would bring him a measure of comfort that has nohing to do with the fact that he was armed. But the sword actually burns now, rather than just shedding the light of a fire, and he feels that the trees would not take this as a good thing. Knowing that Domi lends strength to the resolute, Malgant tightens down on the fear rolling in his belly and takes a few steps closer to Lorth, knowing that the paladin's faith in Gargul will sustain Lorth, and may even strengthen his faith to see this through.
Appolo d20+6=22 Saturday March 8th, 2008 12:58:37 PM
Appolo stops fora second ,lightsa torch"Ok folkks keep moving and keep singing the forrest is trying to rock us to sleep.Let's go."He walks around singing songs making things up and loudly encouraging his group to move forward.
Aztyr d20+5=7 Saturday March 8th, 2008 2:19:17 PM
Aztyr suddenly stops and tries hard to hear something that she thought was ment for her to hear, she closes her eyes to get a better listen...
Vauhwyt and Mookie d20+13=24 d20+11=23 d20+4=24 d20+1=11 Sunday March 9th, 2008 1:11:12 PM
Vauhwyt's will Save (including bonus against mental attacks) is +13; Mookie's is +11. Both Vauhwyt and her familiar are unaffected.
But feeling the mental pressure, and hearing others fall silent, Vauhwyt resolves to so something about that. "Sing Mookie," she commands her raven friend. She then casts Prestidigitation so that a tinkling of fey-like chimes will follow her around for an hour. Finally, she lifts her flute to her lips and plays like she has never played before in her life! Perform check is a natural 20! a 24 total!
Mookie too makes music, lifting his "voice" in song: Perform check an 11. His caws are not TOO disturbing to the ear!
Bart d20+9=11 Sunday March 9th, 2008 2:08:09 PM
Bart wants to stop and listen, a strange forrest indeed.
Vorelle and Champ d20+4=15 d20+2=7 Sunday March 9th, 2008 9:50:55 PM
Vorelle likes being in the forest--usually--but this place is creepy. Never much of a talker, Vorelle is now utterly silent,
Champ, too, is quiet, which is more unusual. He won't leave Vorelle's side now, padding quietly along, nearly under her feet.
Lorth d20+8=12 Monday March 10th, 2008 8:04:53 AM
(OOC: Is the silent forest a fear effect? Lorth immune to fear. He also gives everyone within 10' a +4 morale bonus to fear effects.)
Lorth stops to listen for any sounds of the forest. "This is quite unnatural, the Culverwood was never even this quiet.", he states. Lorth draws his sword, which glows bright. "Silence in the forest is a bad thing, it usually signals the arrival of a large predator."
DM Kent(ooc: No, it is not a fear effect)
Val d20+7=21 Monday March 10th, 2008 8:44:59 AM
"Quiet. Something is wrong. I almost heard it before. We have to listen closely." Val hisses. She moves over toward the edge of the path, turning her head to listen to the darkness.
DM Kent Monday March 10th, 2008 8:43:00 PM
Malgant, Val, Lorth, Vorelle, Bart, and Aztyr, all stop and seem to be listening carefully to something,Highlight to display spoiler: { you all hear the most enchanting singing that you have ever heard. It is so full of life and freedom That you feel compelled to find its source. } that neither Apollo or Vauhwyt can hear and then begin moving off into the trees.
Apollo, Vauhwyt and Mookie beging singing louder and more raucously than before trying to counter whatever is happening.
Malgant, Val, Lorth, Vorelle, Bart, and Aztyr roll will save Dc 21 with a +3 bonus
If you pass then you stop moving into the trees and come to your senses wondering what is going on. Highlight to display spoiler: { you remember the music but not the complusion}
Those who fail continue into the trees Highlight to display spoiler: {the music is even more insistant now and it seems as though it is being sung by a number of children just ahead a bit through the trees.}
Malgant d20+12=25 Monday March 10th, 2008 9:34:52 PM
(will save is 25 with the +3 , nice singing guys ) Malgant hears the most joyful and vital singing he has ever heard. Leaving the others for a moment he begins to wansder off the path, drawing out his sword to better see the singer. A large flaming greatsword leaps out into his hands, illuminating the night. Then he can hear Vauhwyt playing a shrill but bueatiful tune on her flute, and Mookie, cawing in accompanyment. Their song bring him back to his senses and he sees that he was not the only one headed off the path. Acting quickly Malgant gets among the other enchanted group members and intones a prayer that it seems Domi knew would be handy to him today. Suddenly the whole area is plunged into silence.
OOC cast silence on a silver piece hoping to catch as many of the party in it as possible, hopefully negating the song's effects on them.
Vorelle and Champ d20+7=10 d20+5=18 Monday March 10th, 2008 11:18:52 PM
Vorelle smiles a little as she hears the sweet singing. She moves off through the trees, seeking the source of the enchanting sound. Behind her, she is vageuly aware that Vauhwyt and Mookie are making a racket, but she does her best to tune it out. The wonderful singing in the forest is all that matters. Surely something that sounds so sweet and pure will help her and her friends! [Will save 10]
Champ, too, is utterly entranced, and trots eagerly at his friend's side. [Will save 18]
Val d20+7=8 Monday March 10th, 2008 11:32:02 PM
Val holds her bow though no arrows are notched. She forgets about everything else as the singing flows through her. The most wonderful melody she has ever heard. So peaceful. So perfect. Without giving it a second thought Val moves through the woods with a rangers efficiency as the need to find the source is all consuming.
Aztyr d20+8=27 Tuesday March 11th, 2008 12:08:16 AM
Aztyr is listening hard to something, takes a step towards the trees and then something seems to break the spell.... She comes to her senses and looks around, if anyone is still headed for the trees she will grab one of them, whomever is closest.
Bart d20+12=21 Tuesday March 11th, 2008 2:00:41 AM
He guys did you hear some singing? It stopped for now
Vauhwyt d20+13=18 d20+13=18 d4=3 Tuesday March 11th, 2008 6:23:53 AM
If the Silence fails to stop the effect, Vauhwyt will grab Vorelle and tackle her.
Touch Attack hits AC18 -- maybe a hit if she is flat-footed and lacking a dex bonus?
Grapple check -- beats Grapple DC18. Vauhwyt is not using her spikes, so inflicts only 3 hp nonlethal damage if she succeeds.
(I'm assuming that the silence affects Vauhwyt too. If not, she sings as well).
Lorth d20+11=29 Tuesday March 11th, 2008 11:03:35 AM
Lorth begins to walk into the forest then shakes his head and comes to his senses. "Some sort of music..." then everything goes silent. Lorth blinks, looks around then moves towards Malgant. If anyone tackles anyone else, he helps out.
Appolo Tuesday March 11th, 2008 1:53:36 PM
Appolo quickly gets infront of those heading of the path and deeper into the forrest. He will forcibly herd them back in line'Listen to me not the forrest. It's trying to trick you.Rember whyw e're here.Stay to gether."
DM Kent Tuesday March 11th, 2008 9:52:28 PM
With the additional noise, Malgant, Lorth, Aztyr and Bart slip the control of the song. Then interestingly enough the area goes totally silent, so that Apollo's, Vauhwyt's and Mookie's songs as well as their spoken pleas are no longer audible.
Vorelle, Champ and Val continue trying to go deeper into the forest evenresisting those trying to stop them.
Vauhwyt charges into Vorelle trying to tackle her DC 18 (Vorelle is flatfooted). As Vauhwyt hits her Vorelle gets to make another will save +5. Dc 21 breaks the spell. Failure means you are struggling against Vauhwyt to continue.
Azytr and Apollo move to block and hold Val back allowing her another will save at +5. Dc 21 breaks the spell. Failure means you are struggling against Apollo and Aztyr to continue.
Val d20+12=31 Tuesday March 11th, 2008 10:58:32 PM
Val starts struggling against them only to stop with a puzzled look on her face. "Wha...what's going on?" She asks.
ooc: will save 31
Malgant d20+13=14 Tuesday March 11th, 2008 11:42:01 PM Well that didn't work Thinks Malgant. Seeing Val come to her senses, Malgant drops his sword and moves to the only member not restrained...Champ. Gods I hope he doesn't decide to bite me. is the next thought to run through the taur's head. This thought is forgotton as Malgant's arms close around thin air as he misses grabbing Champ.
OOC Well I rolled a nice litle 1 trying to grab Champ....so I miss. I resolved the touch as if I were charging since I figured I would have to move to catch him so I will get no follow up try. Is Orlyn with us? I asked him something about a week ago and got no response. Is he here? Is he gone? Is he in someones pocket? I ask because he hasn't saved either and if he is running off into the woods my actions would be to stop him before Champ. Sorry, people before animals 8(.
Vorelle and Champ d20+9=22 d20+13=29 Tuesday March 11th, 2008 11:53:18 PM
Vauhwyt's tackle catches Vorelle off guard. She resists only for a moment, then shakes her head as if shaking off a dream. [Will save 22]
Looking around, she sees her beloved Champ still enthralled by the music, still heading into the forest. "Ch-Champ!" she cries. "Come b-back!" [Handle Animal 29]
Lorth d20+15=19 Wednesday March 12th, 2008 8:00:23 AM
Seeing everyone but Champ mostly in control of their actions, Lorth tries to restrain champ. He moves quickly to him and tries to physically hamper his movement. (Made a grapple check: 19)
Aztyr Wednesday March 12th, 2008 3:26:51 PM
Aztyr looks around then says, "I take it, that is the reason we need to keep making noise?" She asks anyone willing to answer her.
Appolo Wednesday March 12th, 2008 3:39:50 PM
Appolo looks around and is not able to hear anything. He just raises his hand and indicates that he can't hear anything. He then tries to direct evetone back on to the path and in the direction they were heading. He silently curses the silence.
Vauhwyt Wednesday March 12th, 2008 4:11:47 PM
Vauhwyt is glad that all her comrades have shaken off the effect.
She is a little bit ashamed of her secret thought, and she does not let it show on her face ... Well, if Vorelle's dog runs away, maybe we can get a Black Owl or a Black Hawk for her next animal friend.
Feeling guilty, she joins Lorth in trying to catch the dog.
DM Kent Thursday March 13th, 2008 6:53:40 AM
(OOC. Orlyn was Tim's PC, yes? Tim has withdrawn from the Wold apparently permanently. As he hadn't really interacted more than 2 days I simply didn't feel the need to write him out, as he never was really in. Sorry if that made anything difficult for any of you.)
In the magical silence provided by Malgant's coin, there is frustration over being heard and understood, but in short shrift all the party members and Champ are soon aware of their surroundings. The group did not wander too far, so they are still aware of where they are and quickly make their way back to where they had moved from.
Back where the trail ended there is just enough light filtering through the trees that once you look for it you cas see what appears to be a game trail, heading off in the correct direction. Gon it seems is the nice smooth branch and bramble free path you had been provided.
The main decision now is whether you take a break now that it is moon high and you have found your next path or whether you continue moving all night.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday March 13th, 2008 11:22:38 AM
Vauhwyt shrugs. 'Well, we have two days of travel, so it is either rest now or rest laterr. I can go either way."
Lorth Thursday March 13th, 2008 12:04:40 PM
After helping to stop Champ, Lorth moves out of the silence area so that he may hear his companions discourse.
Bart Thursday March 13th, 2008 4:35:09 PM
lets continue follow the moons path it says in the riddle or not?
Vorelle Thursday March 13th, 2008 4:49:47 PM
Conscious of the close call they both just had, Vorelle kneels to give Champ a big hug. She glances uneasily at the forest around them.
"I-I th-th-think w-we should k-k-keep m-m-m-moving," she says.
Malgant Thursday March 13th, 2008 4:52:14 PM
Once everyone is back together Malgant dismisses the silence spell. It didn't really work out the way he had hoped it would, but all this enchanted by a living wood was all new to him. He decided that he didn't like the Blackbird woods, not nearly as nice a place as the Culverwood. Listening to his companions, now that he can hear them, the topic of resting now or later comes up. Knowing that it is probably too late in the night to recover the silence spell he just cast in his morning prayers Malgant weighs in with his opinion. " As Vauhwyt said it matters little to me when we rest. I do not need to rest to regain most of my prayers in the morning, though likely it is too late to regain that silence spell. Once I have prayed I will also be able to dispel my tiredness from continuing on through the night. The prophecy mentioned following the path by the silver orb, so I'd say press on. "
Appolo Thursday March 13th, 2008 7:25:18 PM
Appolo says"Let's keep moving.I don't like the thought of stopping in this forrest at night.Seems it's magic is more powerful at night then in the day.If we have to we can finda place to rest in the morning.Once the sun is up."
DM Kent Thursday March 13th, 2008 10:11:30 PM
The group gets back together and heads off down the new path but the going is much slower as the ground underfoot is no longer root and bramble free nor is the path nearly as wide allowing only two to walk side by side. Midnight has passed and the early morning hours are quiet and sleepy though through the various singing and conversation the group manages to remain awake.
It is nearing 4 in the morning and it is truly dark as the moons are sinking into the horizon, when up ahead the path seems to vanish.
Val Friday March 14th, 2008 4:25:54 AM
Val feels the fatigue that comes when she forgoes reverie. Though she finds the strength to push on (woohoo endurance feat). She moves forward a little more. With every step her foot lands free of brambles and roots, moving swiftly thought the hazards (woodland stride).
"Let's press on til we find Priscilla. Perhaps inside her moving hut we can rest."
Lorth Friday March 14th, 2008 10:20:04 AM
Lorth is tired but he follows his companions, plodding along. He hopes soon they reach their destination.
Vauhwyt Friday March 14th, 2008 11:42:30 AM
"Wait a minute! There is no more path! It disappeared when the moons set! You guys think we should wander off on our own! No way!"
"Besides, we are getting sleepy. We need to get rest, setting watches, and the ones on watch have to keep singing."
Aztyr Friday March 14th, 2008 1:29:32 PM
"Ummm... I believe it said we could travel but the silver orbs, they are now setting, so I would think it was unsafe to travel...."
Vorelle Friday March 14th, 2008 4:06:29 PM
Vorelle peers into the dim forest and sighs a little, realizing that her eyes are as adjusted to the dark as they're going to get. Not for the first time, she wishes she had an elf's ability to really see in such faint light.
She cannot make out a trail. And if Val cannot either....
"V-V-Val?" she asks. "D-d-d-do you s-s-see our p-p-path?"
Malgant Friday March 14th, 2008 4:16:28 PM
" I will take the first watch, that way I may perform my devotions to Domi in the early morning before I take my rest. How many will we put on each watch, and to you suppose the roots and brambles will allow us to rest or will they continue to cause us grief?" He pauses, then to Lorth says " Even though we will get some rest Lorth I think it is advisable to still have some restorations available in case we need them. I will pray for some and whatever you can add will be welcome."
Bart Saturday March 15th, 2008 3:04:16 AM
Do we still have to make sound to keep us safe from the forrest? I will take watch as well, 2 at a time is enough but let us overlap the watchtime each of us 2 hours, after 1 hour one is relieved of its task and so on, i will take the first shift for 3 hours.

As Val and Vorelle move forward to search for the missing path, they realize that it isn't gone it has just been well covered by what appears to be black, grey and green webbing of some sort.
Then as you each begin to look around, you realize that most of the trees along side the path are also webbed, hence the additional darkness you were experiencing.
It is also about this time that you realize that the grasses and vines and shrubs around you seem to be becoming animated and trying to entagle you all.

Almost at the same time 12 bolts of magic energy come streaking into the area from above, three each striking Malgant, Vauhwyt, Aztyr, and Vorelle.
In addition, Apollo, Bart and Lorth suddenly find themselves targets of very sticky nets-like webs.
Apollo - AC 33 finds himself wrapped in the sticky mess, barely able to move.

But let your DM be the final arbiter of this rule. Sometimes it is silly to say a 20 always works. Activating their boots, Bart and Apollo are now able to move at their normal rate of speed, while Vauhwyt, Val and Vorelle are moving at 1/2 speed. Aztyr is entangled by the plants, but manages to absorb the missiles aimed at her and Lorth is currently tangled in a web net, as is Malgant.
(yes nat 20 does indeeed auto save)
From Malgant and Val come directions of where your attackers are and it appears as though currently they are all in the trees above you.
Apollo moves to cut Lorth free and reralizes it will take a bit of work to do it well enough for Lorth to be able to escape as his blades seem not to be cutting the material very easily. (1 more round of cutting)
Val loads up her bow and locates her first target, as bart arms himself and readise his defenses.
Vauhwyt sees no one in the realm of shadow and decides that making herself a bit harder to find might be a good thing.
Vorelle too tries to hide herself though she finds it a bit harder to do on the exposed path.
There now seems to be quite a bit of chittering and even some human like sounds coming from above all around as if plans are being firmed up and or made. There is quite a bit of movement and in moments you can all see your opponents, though all of them are at least 30 feet above you.
As you stare at your new foes, your eyes aren't quite sure of what they are telling you. Some of the beasts seem to be nothing more than 150 pound 5-7 foot wide spiders (4), while yet others seems to have the likeness of dwarves and humans dangling from threads in the trees (4), while the last four seem to be kind of a mix of the two, with features of both.
(Map on the way by email, but I will try and remember how to link it here as well.)

"Gargul guide my hand so I do not permanently damage the forest." Val says in elvish. She wonders how they walked into an ambush when the forest was alive. When the trees move how do you know where the trail will be. Val releases the tension on her bowstring and draws two more arrows, for a total of 3. Val lets loose with one shot and sends three arrows streaking into Hy2 and drops it to the ground, though it still sesm to be twitching some.
Vorelle to sends three arrows streaking toward her target, though in a more conventional way and also connects three times though perhaps not quite as effectively as her opponent remains active and manacng.
Malgant casts a dispel magic into the area apparently effected by the entangle spell and is rewarded by a cessation of plant hostilities.
Between Apollo's cutting and Lorth's struggles Lorth is soon free from the webs, and Apollo tries sending out some direction to his companions.
Vauhwyt continues he moving north but only makes it about 8 feet when she runs into a barrier of webbed trees.

(ooc: Sorry all I had a small emergency last night and was at the hospital from 5 - 2. Evrything is all right but scary.)
Lorth cast a spell and doesn't feel like anything is any different at this time, as nothing is registering as evil to the spell.
Malgant casts his flame strke and suddenly there is a lot more light in the place than you may have wanted as several trees upper branches begin burning and the fire begins to spread quickly via the network of webs and webbing that become more easily seen now. The five targeted opponents while definitely smouldering some do not seem to have taken all of the fire damage and move forward with loud hisses and some choice sylvan words.
Aztyr tries to escape her bounds but finds she is trussed quite well and now there is the fire to worry about as it spreads along the webs toward her.
Vauhwyt backs up a bit and puts forth a mighty leap into the darker FOREST, nearly taking her head off on any number of lower branches and managing to acquire several scratches, scrapes and bruises in the process. Breathing a bit more easily and begining to make new plans, she hears a rustling in the leaves around her and looking down she finds herself not so pleased to realize that she has landed in what appears to be serving as a nursery, as nearly 40 much smaller versions of the Aranea come swarming at her looking for a meal.
Val is having a good day with her bow and takes advantage of Malgant's flame strike targeting and dropping two of those who come out of it and then sending her last arrow into Hu4 as well.
Having avided the web Apollo turns himself invisible and begins making his way through the fire and upward into the tree to make it to where he can effectively attack S3 manages to just make it and get in his blows, sending black ichor splashing around and covering him from head to toe.
Vorelle drops her bow and whips out her hand axes and make short work of her foe as it drops to the ground twitching.
Bart feeling like a net of cargo hanging in the middle of a battlezone decides the safer thing is to retreat to the ground and work at escaping there. as he gets to the ground he realizes that safety is relative as the fires racing through the webs are quickly encroaching on him as well.

Malgant finds himself the attention of teo human types and a spider from 30 feet above and is pummeled by web and spell.

Reduce Person fort save 17 or be reduced 1 size category
The fire is rapidly spreading and beacuse of all the webbing the entire area is nearly surrounded by flames. Apollo and Vauhwyt are alread currently cut ff from the rest of the party due to the fire.

Vauhwyt casts Expeditious Retreat on herself (98 on spell fail is A-OK).
Then she leaps over the flames to get to her friends. Her Jump check is normally +19, boosted by Jump spell (+20) and Expeditious Retreat (+12) to +51, but the die roller only goes to +50. I'll roll the +50 and then add another +1. That's a 63.
Vauhwyt says, "Get ready to jump on my back, and I'll leap over to safety!"
OOC to DM: It may be that Vauhwyt needs to cancel the blink if she wants to carry others? Depending on the answer and on the rate of advance of the flames, Vauhwyt intends to cast Enlarge person on herself and then carry one or two to safety every other round.

Noting that the spiders have fled the combat Malgant looks around to find the smallest part of the ring of fire. He spots it just to the north of his position and , after a short prayer to Domi( Protection from energy:fire) He begins to use his increased strength, and size to clear a path for his friends through the firey trees. If with the departure of the spiders we have left combat rounds I start clearing out the thinnest part of the ring of fire to let the others escape. To me that looks to be toward the top of the map.

Aztyr (58/58 hp, 25 AC and Jynx (29 hp, 18 AC) Tuesday March 25th, 2008 9:36:08 PM
Hovering in mid air, Aztyr would be able to carry one person out, but only after Jynx gets the webs chewed off her. When that happens she will start with the smallest left in the fire zone.
DM Kent Tuesday March 25th, 2008 9:57:42 PM
As the fire roars and Vauhwyt prepares to get as many out as possible, Bart is cut free and moments later Aztyr is free as well.
Apollo shows up and and Malgat begins looking for a likely place to break through the fire as Val decides to abandon her previous local for one less toasty.
As this is being done you begin to feel a vibration through the ground that has nothing to do with the fire or trees falling; Kind of a thump thump, thump thump, thump thump, thump thump. And then out of nowhere you are plunged into a sodden smokey mess as the exact area on fire is deluged in a sudden area specific downpour the likes of which you have never seen or heard of before. In mere moments the raging fire that was encroaching upon you and threatening the forest around you is a smouldering miasma of sloppy sooty muck and you are all wet to the bone.
The next thing you notice is the thumping noise has turned more to a schlock schlock, schlock schlock, accompanied by the chiming of many belles and when you look up you see the oddest sight many of you have seen.
In front of you standing amidst the sodden ashes is a large, what can only be described as a wooden horse, covered in black feathers. It's big -- standing about 20ft high! there seems to be a door and windows carved into its belly. Hanging from the head, are sets of wind chimes, which tinkle gently in the breeze and everytime the beast moves. The entire horse-like structure is almost completely covered with black feathers, giving it a very weird appearance. strangest of all is that is definitely mobile.
Lorth Wednesday March 26th, 2008 8:49:39 AM
Lorth cringes when it starts raining, he can almost feel his armor start to rust... However when the flames are quickly extinguished he just chalks it up to the forest defense system. Must be the way the forest puts out lightning fires he muses. At the appearance of the feather covered horse, he again readies himself for combat... "What in Gargul's name is that.", he mutters...
Val Wednesday March 26th, 2008 9:39:34 AM
"Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions Lorth but I think that is what we are looking for. Priscilla's mobile home."
"Please we wish to speak with you." Val calls out.
Vorelle and Champ Wednesday March 26th, 2008 11:46:02 AM
Vorelle welcomes the sudden downpour--the fire had been worrisome, and rain never bothers her much.
Champ is not bothered either, but now the clearing smells faintly of wet dog.
When the strange contraption steps closer, Vorelle pauses in the act of sheathing her handaxes. She stares at it a moment.
"H-h-h-horsefeathers!" she says softly, and snickers.
It's been a long day.
Aztyr and Jynx Wednesday March 26th, 2008 4:04:17 PM
Aztyr was about to grab one of her new friends when it started raining, and it was a curious rain, in that she could see it was only on the fire it was falling. When the creature approached she was thinking, oh no, not again. It was Val's comment that made her think it might not be another attack...
74/82 hp Malgant 3d8(8+6+2)+10=26 d8+5=13 Wednesday March 26th, 2008 5:42:27 PM
" Horsefeathers? So thats what that expression means? I always wondered." Malgant gives a deep chuckle at Vorelle's quiet comment and sheathes his sword and stows away his shield. He returns to his normal large size and stands next to his friends dripping and quietly wishing for a mug of something warm to drink and a cozy fire to warm himself by. Looking around and gauging his surroundings he is pretty sure that those things won't come to pass, so he waits for Priscilla to make her entrance. While he waits he tends to those wounded in the fight. Prayers memorized 0 Level( 6) detect magic x2 read magic light purify food and drink mending
