Flexing Skills Using what skills Podo can in this place, Podo takes notes using his Scroll Scribing Materials and wax pencils. He takes notes on the geography of the place including the mysterious SoulStorms.
Bunker hill
Having spent sometime taking notes for Podo's own knowledge, Podo stores the materials and equipment in order to join the rest of the group at an entrance to a hidden entrance in a hill.
"Has anyone of us checked this entrance for traps yet?" asks Podo to those assembled at the door. Looking at the door, Podo tries to discover if there is any debris that might give away the identity of who or what might be using this door knowing that it probably is not the Soulstorm.
Once Shadow gives the all clear sign, Podo will try to listen at the door to discover if there is anything anyone else doing the same thing has missed. Whispering, just in case, "Podo says he still has his flexible brocade light bag if they need light for exploring the hill." Podo kindly offers.

Kadaz d20+1=18 Tuesday April 8th, 2008 4:55:29 PM
Kadaz looks carefully around the weird area. "I think we need to get in and get out as quick as possible. I'm worried that staying too long in this place may start to change us somehow."
In the morning he lets those who are good at look for traps, tracks, and whatever other clue may help. He spends some time sharpening his axe, but since it's adamantium, he's just wearing a hole in the sharpening stone. After a few swipes with the axe to limber up he spit polishes his shield. As he stands ready to enter he looks carefully into the darkness to see what lies ahead. (spot 18, darkvision 60')

If the players of Arm and Shadow are without internet access, I sincerely hope that their fellow players decide amongst themselves whom shall RP for those PCs, since it will be VERY important that all your party members get to post...you never know when combat may rear its even-uglier-than-normal head here in the Shadowlands.

Please Explore Me! - DM Donna Wednesday April 9th, 2008 7:16:05 PM
Shadow's cautious casing of the area reveals no traps...only a gap within the side of the craggy hill that is wide enough and high enough to let one person into it at a time.
Nothing is heard from within the opening, and there are no visible signs of recent passage.

Kadaz (AC 27, HP 103) Thursday April 10th, 2008 6:11:23 AM
"Well, this is certainly a job for me." The dwarf holds his axe and shield firmly, and enters the tunnel. He trusts his darkvision to give him warning of any large object in there. "Can someone with a torch come about 10' behind me?" he asks.
He warily walks into the cave, moving very slowly and carefully, testing each step before putting his full weight on the ground.
Edmund Thursday April 10th, 2008 4:59:29 PM
Edmund does not want to go into the cave, and with the usual blustering makes this obvious.
When the others go ahead, he will tag along behind, rather miserable at the whole place they are in, and desperate to get home as soon as possible.
Kirsten Thursday April 10th, 2008 4:59:58 PM
Not having a torch, and with no spell to light their path, Kirsten is of little help to Kadaz's request. However, she will fall in line with the rest of the party if they choose to enter the cave after the dwarf.
Edmund (2nd post) Thursday April 10th, 2008 9:38:05 PM

With the small (but important) matter of illumination settled, the members of the Mithril Order follow Kadaz and Shadow's lead, cautiously advancing into the depths of the narrow cavern, which wends its way deeper into the bowels of the hill, every bit as craggy inside as the hill was outside.
Everyone in the party with the skill to do so may make a Geology check. Applicable skills for this check are: Dungeoneering, Geology, Mining, Survival and even Knowledge of the Planes.
Anyone with the aforementioned skill making their check vs DC15, Highlight to display spoiler: { you know you're going deeper into the hill...but you think you're also going downwards, too.}
Anyone with a roll that exceeds DC15 by at least six points, Highlight to display spoiler: { yes...you ARE sure that the party is descending as you go forward--but, oddly, the approximate depth doesn't seem to put the ceiling of the tunnel more than maybe five feet under the rolling surface of the Shadowlands.}
Everyone should roll for Listen and Spot checks, too...although Podo hasn't detected anything with the checks that he's been making. (Not yet, anyhow...)

Kadaz walks carefully down the tunnel. He glances at the rock, but having grown up in a slum in Plateau City he really has no good idea of what is significant and what isn't. And he really has little training in anything other than fighting. He is primarily concerned about what is ahead of him.

Kadaz d20+1=6 Thursday April 17th, 2008 4:32:24 PM
Kadaz looks at the two guards by the door. He whispers ahead, "Shadow, do the tracks you say you can see head for that door?"
The fighter looks around some more for a different threat, wondering if there is something else in this cave. (spot 6)
Julian Thursday April 17th, 2008 6:17:07 PM
Julian looks ahead, between Shadow and Kadaz. He is itching to rush forward but he has learned from others the value of reconnaissance and negotiation. However, in actual fact, Julian has learned that others become rather cranky with him when he acts impulsively. Julian moves forward in line with Shadow on the right near the wall.
OOC I like the map
Edmund Thursday April 17th, 2008 7:39:28 PM
Edmund doesn't like this one bit, and the two armoured guards fill him with dread.
He sheathes his dagger and gets ready to cast any spells that might be needed in the circumstances, but he makes sure not to fall too far behind everyone else. In fact, he moves over to the left to be near to Kirsten and Thar.
Once he gets there, he shoots Kirsten a glance which seems to say, "I told you we shouldn't have come in here."
Arm Friday April 18th, 2008 6:02:46 AM
Arm motions for Kadaz to join them up front, and when the party is ready waves them forward, stopping about 50' from the "guards". When they are close enough, he calls out, "We have been asked by your master to meet with him. Let us pass, if you please.".

Kirsten will move forward, though only a few steps so as to be closer to the others should anything go amiss. The paladin rolls her eyes at Edmund's glance, and resists the urge to stick her tongue out at the mage.
As Arm speaks, she tenses and waits to see if there will be any response from those guards.
Thar Friday April 18th, 2008 1:23:05 PM
Thar will remain where he is, and puts away his swords in exchange for his bow.
He adds in a concerned tone, "Um guys... We don't even know if those things are alive. Could they be magically enchanted armor that are acting as guards? Whatever they are, they are going to be formidable foes in melee combat, due to their armor."
The Way In - DM Donna Saturday April 19th, 2008 1:06:43 AM
The only source of light is that which the Mithril Order is carrying with them.
After having made his announcement, Arm has to wonder if Thar's theory about the guards being magically-animated armor or statues of some kind might not have merit, as the pair don't make any sound nor movement to acknowledge the party's presence.
Then, suddenly, the two figures move away from each other so that they flank the large, carved double doors, clearing the way for the group to step forward and proceed on through.
DM WARNING TO JULIAN'S PLAYER Saturday April 19th, 2008 1:13:44 AM
We are swiftly approaching the possibility of combat, and the character sheet for Julian is STILL not on the Woldipedia page with the rest of the group's...
If it isn't there by Monday (or, at least, emailed to me at donnlapATaolDOTcom), then Julian isn't going to be allowed to DO anything in any situations that call for any kind of skill checks, ability checks, saving throws, attack, defense and/or damage checks until I have a copy of it.
Thar ail Baerer Saturday April 19th, 2008 10:27:39 AM
As the figures move away from the door, Thar's apprehension level lowers somewhat, but not enough to make him content.
He doesn't feel the need to say anything more, and will follow the lead of the rest of the group. He does however put away his bow and removes his short swords from their scabbards, although keeping them by his side as to not appear a threat.
Podo d20+5=18 d20+8=28 d20+10=16 d20+5=20 d20+5=15 d20+12=32 Saturday April 19th, 2008 4:01:16 PM Honor Guards Podo uses his flexible torch light bag, to illuminate the cave area the group is in. Hopefully, it sheds enough light to keep the guards, and the door visable, yet still provide enough shadows to hide in.
What to do... Podo looks intently at the two guards hoping that his experience with the arcane can arouse memories relating to these two guards; are they real or are they constructs?
Using his skills, Podo looks & listens in this cave; spot & listen; for levels, mechanisms, or other means of entrance beyond those two large doors. In addition, Podo will use this knowledge skills in Geography, Planes, and history to give him some advantage in this daunting situation. Not being a dedicated warrior, he hopes his discoveries bring his an insight that will help him should this encounter take a turn for the worst.
Podo will try to keep pace with the group staying within 3 paces of last.

Assuming the others continue to ignore his suggestions, Edmund will tag along rather miserably, trying to surround himself with them.
Kadaz (AC 27, HP 103) Saturday April 19th, 2008 8:16:22 PM
Kadaz walks with the others towards the standing guards. "I'll stand next to the one on the right" he says. "That way, if he tries to stop us he'll have to get by me." Kadaz moves to interpose himself between the right statue and the rest of the party.
Kirsten Sunday April 20th, 2008 7:51:32 PM

The paladin lets out a sigh, and remains on her guard as they inch forward.

Edmund eyes the armoured titans warily and, as Arm pushes open the doors, he looks inward. Rather than being cheered by this, he sets his teeth in frustration.
"But why is it so easy?" he hisses.
Kirsten Monday April 21st, 2008 10:44:33 PM
She nods when she hears Edmund speak, thinking the very same thing as she looks around the place. It seems strange to her that they weren't be attacked by those figures and wonders if there might be something worse waiting for them at the end of the corridor.
Podo Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 12:44:03 AM Seems to easy... Using his flexible torch light bag, Podo keeps pace with the group while warily glancing back at the two armed statues flanking the door.
Julian d20+3=10 d20+5=13 Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 4:48:00 AM
Julian bravely strides between the guards into the next room. He pauses to look around, slowly redrawing his falchion, before moving further into the hallway. "The way home, do you think?" Spot 10 Listen 13

Arm d20+13=26 d20+7=16 Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 6:02:05 AM
Arm shakes his head at Julian, "I doubt it, my friend," as he follows him into the hallway, looking around as he does so (listen=26, spot=16).
Kadaz Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 6:19:10 AM
Kadaz stands in front of the motionless guard until the last person has entered the corridor. If the guards remain motionless, he enters, now the last one in line. "I bet they won't be so accommodating on the way out," he comments.
Shadow d20+5=11 d20+9=17 Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 7:03:53 AM
Shadow will enter the hallway and keep alert for anything going on. He will look around and try to see he can hear anything. "I don't like this, but moving on."

Thar Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 9:34:10 AM
Thar will maintain his position in the back, as Kadaz joins them. To Ed, he asks "Do you mind if I stay in this rank (and thus you would go forward 1 rank), so Kadaz and I can form a wall of those guards decide they don't want us to leave?"
He keeps his hands close to his weapons, not happy about being in these confined spaces.
Edmund d20+3=22 d20+1=15 Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 4:46:17 PM
Edmund nods to Thar. "Sounds like a plan to me--whatever keeps our backs guarded."
Edmund will then move up a bit, allowing Kadaz to take his place (if they are still in files, otherwise disregard). He casts a cautious glance around, looking for anything unusual or suspicious.

Arm d20+13=25 d20+7=18 Wednesday April 23rd, 2008 5:59:57 AM
Arm boldly continues forward, though Kadaz' musings leave him a bit disconcerted. He DOES slow his steps a bit as he takes more careful notice of their surroundings (listen=25, spot=18).
Shadow d20+5=11 d20+9=15 Wednesday April 23rd, 2008 7:05:50 AM
Shadow will continue forward with Arm and continue to keep a watchful eye on his surroundings. He however is a caught up in the groups musing, so is not able to focus as much as he would like.

Movin' Right Along - DM Donna Thursday April 24th, 2008 2:36:39 PM OOC: thank you for being patient. On with the game!
All senses at the ready, the party advances into the roughly ten-foot-wide, rough-hewn corridor. At about twenty-five feet or so, the passageway tees off: a ten-foot-wide branch goes to the left, and a ten-foot-wide branch goes to the right. The right-hand path slopes downward visibly.
Anyone making a Spot check of 15 or more, Highlight to display spoiler: { You can see that the trail of footprints ends in the very middle of the intersection.}

OOC: IMPORTANT WOLD OCCURENCE (DM Donna) Thursday April 24th, 2008 3:21:09 PM
The following is a message from the administrators of The Wold site:
The Wold will be down all or part of this weekend! We are puting some back end improvements in place, and we need thisweekend (April 26 & 27) to do the work entailed. So if you cannot get on the Wold this weekend, that's why.
Podo d20+8=23 d20+10=30 d20+12=27 Thursday April 24th, 2008 8:29:35 PM Crossroads Using his skills, Podo can make out the trail of footprints ends in the very middle of the intersection & believes that he hears a sort of rustling noise coming from the right hand corridor.
Discovering this, Podo wastes to time making these discoveries know to the rest of the group is a whispering tone.
Plans... Podo makes sure to be on his best guard by withdrawing his blunted spiked chain from his haversack, making sure he is prepared in this narrow crossroads.

After receiving the info, Arm says to the rest, "Let's follow the footprints, but those in the back keep a sharp eye out for anything behind us.".
Before they reach the end of the prints, Arm motions to Shadow to check the area for possible traps. As he does do, Arm lends his skills to the search (listen=27, spot=23).
Kadaz d20+1=16 Friday April 25th, 2008 6:40:55 AM

Decisions, Decisions - DM Donna Friday April 25th, 2008 6:03:36 PM
Podo has informed the group that the footprints end/disappear in the middle of the intersection. There are two directions to pick from: the left-hand tunnel, which appears to be more or less level...and the right-hand tunnel, which slopes downward and seems to have rustling noises coming from it.
Edmund d20+3=10 d20+1=13 Friday April 25th, 2008 10:11:24 PM
On hearing of the strange footprints and the rustling noise, Edmund considers the situation for a moment.
"Footprints that just disappear? Perhaps there is a trap door there--or maybe it isn't what it appears? A closer look is in order."
(Spot=10, Listen=13)
Thar d20+13=18 d20+8=17 Saturday April 26th, 2008 11:25:18 AM
Hearing the discussion ahead, Thar agrees with Edmund's point and volunteers to help search for whatever lead to the disappearance of the footsteps.

Spot 23 (natural 20!)
OOC sorry for the missed post - we're changing ISP and there has been unforeseen problems.
Spot, Look & Listen - DM Donna Monday April 28th, 2008 1:51:53 AM
Spotting and Searching reveal only that the footprints cease in the center of the intersection--the ground is whole and doesn't hide any trap doors.
Listening confirms the slight rustling sounds from the sloping tunnel on the right.
Kadaz d20+1=13 Monday April 28th, 2008 5:34:58 AM
Kadaz looks up at the ceiling, looking for any unusual coloring that might indicate a trap door. That could explain why the tracks stop. (spot 13)
Arm Monday April 28th, 2008 6:05:03 AM
Arm waits for Kadaz' estimate of the ceiling before they proceed further.
OOC: Sorry, but I'm confused..the footprints go down a tunnel and end at an intersection? If so, is it a 4-way, 3-way, etc.?
Shadow d20+5=22 d20+9=12 d20+10=12 Monday April 28th, 2008 7:11:58 AM
Shadow is very onfused by what has been said, 'footprints that just disappear/stop' he is not feeling very comfortable right now.
After the group determines that there is nothing wrong with the intersection, Shadow will move into it and try to see if there is anything noticeable down each corridor. He will then lead the group down whichever corridor they determine to go down.

"Perhaps there is a secret passage either in the walls or the floor, or even worse, its a trap?" mentions Podo to the group? Using his skills, Podo tries to detect the floors, walls for hidden passageways and discover what that noise is without finding its source!

"Well, I can't find anything," Thar says as he is unable to locate any reason for the footprints stopping.
He'll return to his place at the back of the line and wait for the group to decide which direction to follow.
Kirsten Monday April 28th, 2008 1:07:46 PM
She stands by quietly, knowing that her rather inadequate seeing and listening skills will be of little use here. She looks around the cavern, waiting for what will be decided next by the others.
Edmund Monday April 28th, 2008 6:06:00 PM
Edmund is extremely puzzled by the disppearing footprints.
"Perhaps whoever it was teleported away from this point?" he theorises. "If there's no mechanical device or such, it must have been magic."
Arm Tuesday April 29th, 2008 6:02:10 AM
Getting a better grasp of the situation, Arm nods to Shadow and points to the wall opposite where the footprints stop, adding "Be careful, my friend.". To Kadaz he says, "Perhaps you can help Shadow?".
Kadaz d20=20 Tuesday April 29th, 2008 6:45:06 AM
Kadaz looks around but sees no threat. "Ok Arm. Good idea." He walks over behind Shadow and asks "May I help look?"

Kirsten Tuesday April 29th, 2008 8:20:27 PM
She looks around with the others, though wonders how it would have been possible for footprints to merely disappear. Kirsten will leave the spotting and searching to the others, however, having never been any good at such things.
Searching, Searching - DM Donna Wednesday April 30th, 2008 12:34:43 AM
The Mithril Order does a most thorough job of searching and spotting...only there are no doors to find--none in the ground, none in the wall...and the ceiling is still maybe fifteen or more feet high, but in view of the expert skills being executed--there are none in the ceiling, either.
There are still two passageways: one goes left, and the right one slopes noticeably downward, as well as having the sounds of faint rustling coming from it.
Podo d20+8=20 d20+10=28 d20+12=21 Wednesday April 30th, 2008 1:07:19 AM X marks the spot... Podo gets a sudden idea. In addition, Podo hopes that perhaps his knowledge in Geography might help he determine if the "X" is somehow significant?!
