The Duel [DM BrianZ] Friday April 25th, 2008 9:32:59 PM
OOC- ok, correct if wrong, I have Kit, Kat, Durgan, Kazak, Savin, and Jurgen at the duel,
Trace at the catacombs/town, Firn'gaer in town,
Peerimus investigating the giants.
The combatants meet early at the grove, with many of the Children of Chaos in attendance. No townspeople are present, as most are uncomfortable inviting themselves to the grove. Jillian and Gortrek face off, with weapons drawn. Savin instructs that he intends to mediate the duel to keep it fair. Jillian seems glad, Gortrek just grunts. Gortrek and Martrek give a nod towards Durgan and Kazak, glad to see some dwarves present.
Caraveer and Martrek stand off to the sides, observing and with obvious distaste for the other party. Peerimus' grove creatures do not interfere, but seem to stand ready to prevent any damage to the grove. They give the combatants a wide berth, but keep a close eye on things.
Jillian draws her sword, a slender elven longsword and nods to Gortrek, "Ready when you are." Gortrek responds curtly, "I shall try not to hurt ye too much lass, but ye will learn not to insult a dwarf." Gortrek draws his axe and prepares his shield. Jillian casts a shield spell. The two begin to circle, and their distaste for one another is very visible. "You insulted me first dwarf," Jillian responds.
They attack one another, light exchanges at first and then more heatedly. Their disgust at each other begins to show as the duel wears on. It is personal, and on a deeper level than just personal grievances. Gortrek manages a slice across Jillian's cheek. A scar that will show for a long time. "Heh. Bet yer males won't like that one." Jillian's face grows red. She makes a quick slice and takes off a chunk of Gortrek's beard. "Bet your dwarven friends won't like that one," Jillian responds.
The two combatants go at it fiercely now. This is no longer a duel if it ever was. It is personal now, and you can tell the tone has changed. They are trying to kill one another. They can tell as well, and Jillian knows she is outmatched. She drops the sword and begins casting a powerful spell hoping to end the combat. Gortrek is enraged. "AHA! A cheatin' elf! Big surprise eh?" Gortrek charges and connects solidly before Jillian is able to complete the spell. He backs away, the axe still embedded in her chest. A look of shock registers across her face, as if she doesn't quite believe what just happened. But the spell is not yet complete. As she falls, she tries to control the building energy, but it is too late. The magic builds and twists with her death. Black tendrils of energy snake out looking for a lifeforce and they find the nearest one, Gortrek. As the spell completes, using Gortrek's lifeforce to fuel itself, A creature steps out through the created gate. The demon is not shackled by the constraints of the failed spell. The demon smiles, wicked teeth gleaming in the morning light...
Peerimus and Yorrick d20+24=32 Monday April 28th, 2008 10:46:55 AM
The druid arrives at teh outskirts of the Giant camp and shifts back to his human form. "Stay close my friend and be wary." [defend me Handle 32]
Peerimus then activates his animated shield and strides into full and easy view. Enough of the camp seems to have demonstrated common as a language and with that thought he merely speaks up as he approaches. "I am Peerimus, druid of Heranamar!" he stops and waits. That should do it
Trace and Shadow Monday April 28th, 2008 2:00:25 PM
Trace ask for a total on hi purchase and sale. (selling all magic items except the ones that have been claimed and then buys 10 flying potions and 20 resist elements potions.) Then out of his own pocket, he will buy 200 arrows to supply himself.)
Once this is done, Trace will try and catch up with the others in the grove after making arrangments with the delivery of the items. Trace will retive his horse and Shadow will lope along beside him.
Kit'Miara Monday April 28th, 2008 7:39:05 PM
Kit watches the duel very interested in what is going on and excited to be at the fight. As the tone is turned however she realize that these two are not just fighting a duel but they are trying to kill each other. She sees the elf start to cast a spell and then watches mouth agape at the dwarf ramming his axe into her. She turns her head away unable to watch for a moment then turns back just as the demon comes in. She is actually somewhat frightened which is not usual for her nature
Savin ac 31 hps 137/137 blinking d20+18=27 Monday April 28th, 2008 9:09:06 PM
(ooc OK Savin really didn't want this to get this out of hand but since it looks like a storyline, oh well)
Savin sees the action getting to heated and starts moving forward to halt it when it all goes wrong. When the demon appears, Savin feels nothing but guilt and remorse. He feels responsiible somehow for this happening and says, "We have to send this fiend back to his pit!" Savin flexes his gloves and activates his ring of blinking. He then moves forward to engage the demon tumbling towards it to avoid aoo (tumble 27)
Demons [Dm BrianZ] Monday April 28th, 2008 9:57:00 PM
OOC- Trace, I will get to your purchase tomorrow night. Any last minute requests for the loot speak up!
Peerimus finds the giant camp a busy and not very friendly place. There are a few more giants present than Peerimus would have expected. Apparently Dame Jarlsdottr was holding back some of her strength in the earlier meeting. One of the guards saunters over to Peerimus. He does not appear impressed by the druid's proclamation. "Leave."
The demon grins as Savin closes with it. "Yesssssssss. Fight me....." Savin is too quick and the demon is unable to swing at Savin as he moves in. The demon unfurls an impressive spiked chain and begins to swing it around, building momentum. The creature mutters a few arcane words and suddenly several more smaller demons appear behind it. They begin to fan out looking for victims.
Trace shows up upon this scene and only needs a moment to take it all in...
OOC- We are in combat rounds. :)
Kat'Miara Monday April 28th, 2008 10:30:17 PM
Seeing the Demon appear, she starts cursing in halfling, voraciously.
"This negates the bets I had! And it was 5:2 odds!!"
Looking around, she tries to get a bead on the bookies she set the bets on the Dwarf with, hoping to catch them before they slip out. And, of course, to see where the rest of their group is, in case they need to come to the Dwarf's aid.

Jurgen - AC 30 [132/132] - Greater Magic Weapon, Alter Self [Troglodyte] Monday April 28th, 2008 11:52:27 PM
Jurgen looks at the spell being cast and curses as it gets twisted. This was why fools shouldn't be allowed to play with magic. "Get it! Kat, stop worrying about your ruddy money and stop the demons!" He shouts to the Children and then turns to Caraveer or Martrek, whomever is closest and yells again. "Find a healer! NOW! Get the guards on alert!"
He grabs his Rod of Extend and casts Alter Self, taking the form of a Troglodyte. He may be ugly, but he was safer now.
(Do we have a combat map?)
Kit'Miara Tuesday April 29th, 2008 6:58:09 AM

Savin swings at the demon as it starts to summon some of his friends. (ooc I think I get an AOO here so I will swing and let you decide)
Savin attacks with his fists using his velvet fist and its unholy attack.
AOO hit ac 26 most likely a miss but 21 points of damage if it was a hit.
Savin hits ac 38 (natural 20, check roll is ac 32) Savin does 47 points of damage with this hit if it is a critical or 25 if it isn't.
Savin hits ac 26 for 22 points of damage Savin hits ac 36 for 21 points of damage Savin hits ac 26 for 25 points of damage
Rolled to see if any missed for blinking but all hit.
"Quick put them down! Before they keep summoning and swarm us under!"
(ooc combined weapon damage and holy damage for ease. Let me know if it is ok.)
Velvet Fist (Fate Item) The feel of these gauntlets is so light and supple that, at first, one might mistake them for gloves. Closer inspection, however, will reveal that through some process of magic and extraordinary master craftsmanship, they are made from Adamantine. Also, beneath the humble exterior of these gauntlets are powerful energies for good, and magically enhanced combat abilities. (+3 Mighty Fist, Merciful and Holy.) Only usable by Lawful Good. Created by Al Chang (changa@charter.net) and Stephen Knotts (stephen.knotts@us.army.mil) 8/19/07
Firn'gaer Tuesday April 29th, 2008 2:01:23 PM
Firn'gaer is still working in town. Until he learns of the summoned Demon, he will continue to gather the things for the trade with the giants.
Peerimus and Yorrick d20+10=25 Tuesday April 29th, 2008 2:37:24 PM
Peerimus stands his ground. "My people are putting together the agreed upon supplies for Dame Jarlsdotter and word reached us that you prepare for war. A war that will occur on our borders and therefore becomes our affair. I have thus come to hear the truth of the rumor." Peerimus keeps his tone even and non agressive, but by no means makes any pretense he is here on any subserviant manner to the giants.
Battle! [DM BrianZ] d20+25=33 2d6(6+5)+15=26 10d6(3+1+5+5+3+2+1+6+4+3)=33 Tuesday April 29th, 2008 11:21:57 PM
OOC- no map available yet. Apologies! Please make best guess.
Savin does try to hit the devil as it summons help, but the attack brushes off of the creature's thick hide. The devil laughs as Kazak joins the fray swinging with its' spiked chain as the dwarf runs in. (Hit AC 33, 26 dmg, Fort save DC 27 or be stunned for x rounds)
Kazak hits the devil once(no crit) for 18? dmg and readies himself for more. (dmg is pending fort save)
Kit and Kat maneuver into position and ready to assist the group.
Jurgen prepares some defenses and shouts encouragement and advice to his comrades.
Savin takes the fight to the enemy, landing two blows upon the creature. (sorry no crit) Hit for 25 and 21 dmg. Savin can tell his attacks are not 100% effective against the creature, but there is visible damage.
The demon drops a fireball at its' feet, relishing in the destructive flames that it is immune to. Damage is 33 or Reflex DC 19 for 16. Saves from: Savin, Kazak, Durgan, Jurgen, Kit, Kat.
Savin and Kazak may take AoO for the fireball. The demons' cohorts also seem to shrug off the damage as the four of them spread out to try and flank the adventurers. They seem to be circling towards Kit, Kat, Durgan and Kazak. The demon laughs. "Is this the best these lands have to offer? I will destroy all within my reach!"
Caraveer and Martrek, both obviously outmatched, race for the town. You can see them arguing along the way.
With the fire damage to the grove, Peerimus' defenders may decide to enter the fray. (or not, Peerimus would know the instructions left for them better than I)
Peerimus does receive a curt response from the giant. "If war means several dozen giants and orcs attacking a like number, then you may call it a war. A skirmish like this is not uncommon to us and likely has no interest for you. We will still take the supplies, they will supplement whatever we take from the other tribe."
OOC-Notes: Please list dmg types of your weapons for defeating DR. Please list Spell Resistance check if using spells on the creature.

This is the current loot divide. If there are no objections or final grabs, this is it. Since there was a variety of yes/no on the potions, Let's assume Trace did not buy any potions. Everyone may get their own upon next visit to catacombs.

Jurgen does a bit of a jump, nearly avoiding the fireball. The flames still lick towards him and he winces at the heat. [Reflex Save vs. DC 19 - 21 - 16 dmg]
Ignoring the pain and thinking quickly, the sorcerer-paladin tells Shay the find Firn'gaer, but sees a blank look from the hawk who can no longer understand him. He curses and shouts to the Children, "Concetrate on your tattoos. Focus on Firn'gaer and Peerimus. Try to reach out to them and tell them we're in trouble." Jurgen then does that very act, focusing all his thoughts on their missing companions and the words "The grove is under attack!"
"TRACE! Call this battle!" Jurgen spares half a second to glance at the ranger, wondering what his orders were. Hearing nothing, he grabs a potion and is about to suck it back when his Domi tattoo catches his eye. The way the light bounced off it made him think it was glowing and he raises it towards the demons (not the larger one, but the smaller). "IN THE NAME OF DOMI, RUN VILE DEMONS!" This time, the tattoo really does glow a bright white. [Protector's Turning Ability - Affects ousiders. Turning Check - 11. Most powerful outsider affected - 7 HD. Total HD affected - 18.]
(Kazak: I think you passed the reflex save. It was DC 19. Loot: Jurgen won't take any of the CLW potions. I think Peerimus wanted them anyway? Other then that, the only thing I wonder is if Richard is taking the Rod of Negation? I don't want it, but I figured he would.)

OOC- bear with me, much info. If I forget anything, please remind.
Durgan moves into the fray, forming a wall of dwarven steel alongside his brother.
Kazak makes the fort save.(hit last round success) Kazak's free swing as the fireball goes off misses.(the reflex Dc was 19-you got 16 dmg not 33) Kazak unloads several swings at the devil, but they all bounce off of its' tough armor. The taunts were not not ignored however, and the devil gives Kazak a wicked smile.
Savin evades the fireball and manages to hit the devil as he cast it. (going to go with he got the spell off) He then unloads a flurry at the devil and hits twice! The blows do not inflict full damage, but they begin to add up. (you got it now, blink is percent roll)
Kat moves into position, and Kit lets loose with her (shortbow?). The arrows all hit but all bounce off the creatures tough hide.
Jurgen shouts out some battle orders, waiting for Trace to enter the fray. He feels a compulsion with his holy symbol, and tries to turn the devils as if they are undead. And it works! (affects smallest HD first) The smaller devils scamper away in fear, but they were just cannon fodder. And the devil knows it. He laughs at Jurgen. "Come, waste more time on the weaklings. Afraid to face me?"
Caraveer and Martrek race for town. Several guards see them at once as they all anxiously awaited word of the duel. It seems a few had side bets with Kat. The alarm is raised...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The devil saw the minimal effect of the fireball and decides to try the more direct approach instead. He focuses his attention on Savin for now and brings the spiked chain to bear on the monk. (to hit: 35, 38, 18, dmg= 24, 19, miss. blink= miss, hit. TOTAL dmg =19) Savin feels stunned by the powerful blow. (unless he can shake it off, Fort DC 27)
The devil tries to bite Kazak. (hit ac31 miss)
The devil's tail lashes out and tries to strike Jurgen. (hit ac37, dmg= 12) The wound is very nasty and continues to bleed heavily.
Savin, Jurgen, Kazak, Durgan, you feel the evil emanating from the devil, its' fear as a physical force makes you want to run away. (Will saves please DC 23 or subject to fear as spell)
You see a very small number of the creatures wounds knit themselves closed. It looks like a tough fight...
OOC notes: I don't believe anyone has found the exact type of DR of the devil yet. Kn Planes check may net you some info...
"Afraid? You're going to die, hellspawn." Jurgen steps towards the creature, drawing his fairly normal sword. The wave of fear washes over him and he thinks the happiest thought he can and it passes [Will Save vs DC. 23 - 28]. He strikes with his sword towards the demon, without really intending to hit [Protector Ability - Take Under Wing - All allies within 10 feet have +5 AC - My attacks take a -5. Attack Roll - 16 Critical Failure].
Jurgen stands close to Savin, prepared to throw himself in front of the demon's next attack [Protector Ability - Interpose - Target: Savin].
Peerimus and Yorrick Thursday May 1st, 2008 6:22:04 PM
Perimus takes a moment on the giants response and then decides it is adequate. A very crowded woods without much evidense of such thought A disturbing thought for sure for the druid, but one this giant or any other in the camp would have no cares about. "The semantics of the action do not concern me, but the rumor holds true and it is none of our affair for now and so I will leave you."
With that Peerimus turns and moves back into the woods. "The centaurs will need to know sooner over later Yorrick." he tells his friend with a pat as they walk further from the camp. "The trick is what would do you think would be the fastest way to inform them. The rest of our friends don't know either and also need telling." Yorrick shakes his head and snorts. "True a dilema. We can only teleport 1 time and since we do not know where the centaurs are we can not go there in that way." Peerimus smiles as they continue walking towards where they met the centaurs a few days before, "Remind me to see if Firngaer can place a tongues spell on you as well as I" Yorrick grunts again. "Why? so the others could understand you my friend." Another grunt. "I don't know. I do suppose I could try and teach them bear. It's not like it's the most complex of languages really and some of them are quite bright." Grunt "Behave yourself, he has his moments true, but so do we all Yorrick." The pair continues a stiff pace towards the centaurs, Peerimus shifting to a dire bear for greater speel and the Longstrider spell still in affect.
Durgan AC32(dodge) Hp 136/169 d20+12=13 Thursday May 1st, 2008 6:58:32 PM
The town guard raise the alarm and all return to their posts. Seeing Firn'gaer in town, one of the guards informs him there is trouble at the duel.
Savin strikes the devil soundly, keeping its attention.
Kazak swings but fails to connect.
Trace increases his mobility, and gaining a better view of the battle while flying, gives some orders to get things under control. He suggests flanking the devil.
Kit tries shooting again, but the crossbow bolts are having trouble wounding the creature.
Kat falls back beside Jurgen, and gets ready to rejoin the fray.
Jurgen boosts his allies' armor, and readies himself to deflect an enemy attack.
Durgan alone fails to fight against the magical fear and retreats from the fight.
The devil brings the spiked chain about and lays into Savin with it. He fails to connect.
He tries to bite Kazak again. "I hear dwarf is good eatin where I come from!" (miss)
His tail lashes, this time striking at Kazak. (miss)
The devil roars its' frustration, but doesn't appear ready to quit yet. In fact you would guess the creature actually enjoys this sort of 'fun'.
Savin nimbly dodges the spiked chain and says to Jurgen, "What are you doing? Do you have any buff spells. A haste spell would be very good right now!
Does anyone know these devil's weaknesses?
Savin swings his normal four times with his flurry of blows but only hits once (hit ac 36 for 23 points of damage. Made blink check
Savin starts thinking as he fights wondering how he can increase the odds. He knows his gloves can bypass damage reduction for things that need magic, holy, Adamantine, and that his ki effects magic and lawful. All he has that could help is some silversheen but should he duck out of the battle long enough to apply it?
Firn'gaer Friday May 2nd, 2008 9:53:55 AM
Kazak sees his brother flee from the devil's fear, but holds his ground and hits once. (OOC- isn't bastard sword a d10?)
Savin asks if anyone knows how to beat the devil's resistance to weapons. He hits once.
Firn'gaer is alerted to the trouble and flies towards the grove. He comes upon a scene of his companions battling a devil and an elf girl lying upon the ground near the beast. (Firn'gaer is 60 feet away.)
Jurgen takes 2 damage from the horrific wound. (and 2 from last round :) Jurgen retrieves a scroll and casts haste on: Savin, Kazak, Kit, Kat and Jurgen(Durgan and Trace are too far away.) The defensive cast prevents AoO. Jurgen places himself in harms way to give Savin a breather.
Trace gives instructions to Shadow, then cuts loose with his bow. He hits twice, the arrows sticking out of the creatures torso. Those who are in melee range can see the wounds close up slightly.
Durgan retreats to the edge of the clearing, then checks to make sure the devil isn't following.
The devil is being worn down by the mutitude of attacks, and vents its anger by lashing out. The spiked chain lashes at Jurgen as the devil tries to stun him. (Attack Jurgen hit AC 38,24,16 Damage: 24 and Fort save DC 27 or you are stunned.
Jurgen feels the spiked chain dig into his skin and, instead of wincing in pain, he laughs. "Is that the best you can do, hellspawn? I thought demons were supposed to be feared." Antagonizing any sort of powerful foe was rarely a smart move. At the same time, Jurgen was content to keep it's attention on him.
The paladin draws on his magic roots, trying to cast Ray of Enfeeblement on the devil. He shrugs off both the previous wound and the spiked chain. As he finishes the spell, he leaps forward to grab any exposed part of the demon's body. Regardless of whether he hits or not, he stifles a curse as he's fairly certain the creature was able to shrug off his attack. Again he prepares to throw himself in front of any attack on the group's monk. [Interpose - Target: Savin] "Whatever your plan is, Savin, do it now."
"Savin, try anything you have. We need to break past his defenses. Do you have anything we haven't tried? Fire doesn't work. Adamantine, Holy. But there has to be a trick. I'll try ice next." Jurgen practically shouts as he weaves in and out of the demon's attacks. He also doesn't sound too confident that his cold spells will work, even if they do managed to strike. "Kit and Kat, get on the other side of this hellspawn into flanking positions." The paladin-sorcerer was beginning to form a plan, but they needed to know what would really do some damage. And for Firn'gaer to show up. If that idiot dwarf and that idiot elf hadn't alerted the town, Jurgen would be come back and haunt them for the rest of his days.
Jurgen casts ray of enfeeblement at the devil, but the spell fizzles against the creatures' innate resistance to magic. Smiling, The devil takes advantage of the lowered defenses and swings the spiked chain around at Jurgen. (hit AC 45, crit check- hit AC 33, damage- 43, fort save DC 27 or be stunned.) Jurgen is ready once more to shield Savin from the devil's attacks. (unless stunned) Jurgen takes 2 damage from the infernal wound.
Kit and Kat move into position to flank the devil. They are surprised when the devil does not take any swings at them while they move.
Firn'gaer enters the clearing. He sees his companions battling some sort of devil near the grove. (Position: 60 feet away from devil.)
Kazak takes aim and hits the devil twice, scoring a good hit.
Savin unleashes another flurry at the devil, but his magic works against him this time as he fails to hit.
Aftermath [DM BrianZ] Wednesday May 7th, 2008 7:25:31 PM
Before the creature retreats, Firn'gaer is able to identify it as a horned devil.
Savin laments the creature's escape and wonders if it can be tracked. He believes it is time for Heranmar to have a few new laws.
Jurgen survives the terrible blow before the devil retreats. He summons a hound archon to attempt to find out more about the devil. (OOC- What Dan said above. There is somewhat of a gray area of using evil to fight evil. Why not take it to the rules board and see what gets hashed out?) The hound archon appears and is ready for battle. As it sees no fighting, it drops its' guard and gives Jurgen a bow. "I am usually called to aid in fighting the forces of darkness and evil. Why do you call me today?"
Kazak agrees it is time for Heranmar to add to its laws. He begins to prepare the elf and dwarf bodies for transport back to town. He also wonders about the town defending itself against such a creature as the devil.
Kit and Kat lament not using their new toys on the devil.
Trace shows frustration that his arrows did not do more damage to the devil. He checks the elf girl, but saves his potion as it is too late to help her with it.
Peerimus continues traveling to the centaur camp.
Savin wondered why the duel was so bitter. Perhaps Martrek and Caraveer may be able to answer why...
Durgan Wednesday May 7th, 2008 7:32:09 PM
"I'm sorry there's nothing for you to fight, but we are in need of your expertise." Jurgen then gives a description of the demon/devil they faced, both physical and it's attitude (adding the chain, the bite, the tail, the fear, and the teleporting away). If any of the Children have something to add, he quiets down to get a complete picture. "We need to know it's weaknesses. Most of our weapons simply irritated it..."
George Thursday May 8th, 2008 11:41:34 AM
OOC. We have had that discussion on the rules board a couple times without a clear cut concensus. I admit I never really understood the problem. It is ok to cast a fireball and roast someone alive, or chop off their head or freeze them to death, but summoning an evil creature to combat evil is wrong. I think we just need our DM's to clairify the matter in their thinking. If they consider it evil, then Jurgen needs to beware but we don't need another 2 week debate on the rules board which will have no clear cut answer.
Savin Thursday May 8th, 2008 11:45:01 AM
Savin seeing that the dwarves are bringing back the slain duelists, Savin will curtly say, "I will see you back in town. I have some business to attend to."
Savin jogs at a quick pace back to town looking for the two seconds of the duelists. Once he finds them, he will confront them and say, "OK I want to know now what caused this monstrosity. What were they argueing over in the first place? If you guys are at all evasive with me, we will be starting our own duel, right here and right now."
Savin's fists clench and unclench as he waits for the answer.
DM SteveK Thursday May 8th, 2008 12:05:07 PM
Rules Decision: The casting of an evil spell (to include summoning of an evil creature) is an evil act.
Note a single evil act does not cause an alignment change, but would affect a paladin by "knowingly committing an evil act"
Peerimus and Yorrick Thursday May 8th, 2008 12:23:10 PM
Blissfully unaware of the issues now facing the group and the repurcussions of all of it, Peerimus, as a Dire Bear and Yorrick continue moving to the centaurs. It has been too long sinse he simply moved through the woods and enjoyed the trip. Pressing matters did not weigh on him and looming death was not part of this day. Simply the smell of the forest, the feel of the moss covered earth and warmth of the sunshine upon thick dark fur. Life is good.
Durgan Thursday May 8th, 2008 4:09:49 PM
Durgan carries Gortrek's body back to town without a word. This was a sad day, and he would also like some answers from the duelists' friends.
An elf and a dwarf [DM BrianZ] Thursday May 8th, 2008 9:48:31 PM
The hound archon considers Jurgen's question for a moment. "Ahh. Must have been a horned devil. They are known as Cornugons by celestial and abyssal natives. As for striking it, I have always found that a silver weapon enhanced with both magic and the raw holy power of good seems to give them an unpleasant day. Was there anything else I can do for you today sir?"
Kazak agrees not to give his brother a ribbing for the fear spell, and Durgan agrees to buy the first round of ales at the Inn. The dwarven brothers retrieve the two bodies and transport them back to town.
Savin makes haste back to town and arrives there first. He finds Martrek and Caraveer arguing. As Savin approaches he can make out Martrek accusing Caraveer of cheating. Using powerful spells was against the rules and Gortrek would still be alive if Jillian hadn't cheated. "Serves the pointy-eared witch right! I know Gortrek only regrets that he is to see the war with our ancestors instead of with his axe in his hand."
Martrek looks annoyed at Savin. "So says the elf-lover. I saw that one with a bow ye were hangin out with. I don't trust anyone who is friends with pointy-ears. Except maybe them two dwarfs I saw earlier. Tell you what, I'll save ye the embarassment of whuppin' ye with the flat of me axe blade. If anybody needs ta bother me, I'll be at the Inn, toasting me brother into the afterlife. After that, I have funeral arrangements ta make and a report ta send to me Lord." He looks at Caraveer. "A bad report." The angry dwarf storms off to the Inn.
Caraveer sighs as the dwarf leaves. "I believe I can shed some light on your questions friend, if you will but stay your hand. I have seen enough blood shed this day." As he speaks, Savin notices a tear running down Caraveer's cheek. "The fighting between elves and dwarves is even worse in Hook city. That is how I persuaded Jillian to travel all the way to the Gateway Downs in order to get away from the violence. Unfortunately, along the way, some insults and racial slurs eventually caused Gortrek to question Jillian's honor and so a duel was challenged and accepted. It never was supposed to go this far. I thought the company of many others in a caravan would keep her safe. I thought..."
"Ahem." Caraveer clears his throat. Things are getting bad in Hook City. It is close to civil war there. The mages and the army are not doing much to stem the violence because racial tensions are affecting their own ranks. I hope somebody can do something to ease the tensions. Excuse me. It seems I have some funeral arrangements to prepare."
Firn'gaer Friday May 9th, 2008 8:35:26 AM
Firn'gaer arrives and everything is done. He sees the the tension between the elves and dwarves and decides a gnome should not get in the middle of that ancient grudge. "Should I inform Peerimus?" He asks a general question as the group walks back to town. "I don't have the ability to locate that demon, but I know Peerimus could. I think that it should become our first priority. My reason is that what would the repercussions be if that fiend were to align itself with the orc tribes nearby or the giants."
[PS - I think dragon armor was excluded from the Wold as a house rule, but I'm not sure.]
Firn'gaer - Second Post Friday May 9th, 2008 8:46:16 AM
"I will be back very soon." He says to the others and Savin in particular. Firn'gaer will teleport to Peerimus' location.
On arriving, Firn'gaer will seek out the druid, and in private with the druid. "There has been trouble in the village. I don't know all of the details, but what I know is this. During a duel between an elf and dwarf, the elf summoned a horned devil and then died leaving the devil free, which is not suppose to happen. The devil was engaged for a short period and then teleported away. I think the devil should become our first priority. I cannot locate the devil. I don't know the spell for scrying, but you do."
Firn'gaer gives over his potion of CLW to the town militia to be used in defense of the town.
Savin Friday May 9th, 2008 9:13:38 AM
Savin will put his hand on Caraveer's shoulder and give him a gentle squeeze. "Thank you my friend for your forthrightness. I would have hated spanking the dwarf. Let me ask you one quick question before you go. Was Jillian a strong enough spell caster to summon a devil of the power we just fought? I thought it would take a great mage to summon a beast of that power." Once Savin has his answers, he will wait for the others to join him.
He will fill them in on the racial situation in Hook City but has no ideas on how to combat them. Again he wonders if something is manipulating things. It seems their was more and more racial tension lately between all of the races.
Savin agrees that the Devil is the first priority and curses when he finds out that silver is a weakness. He bows low to Jurgen and says, "My apologies...you were encouraging me to try anything and I was about when the fiend left. We need to send the devil back to its own dark place before it stirs up more trouble, but how to find it?"
Trace and Shadow Friday May 9th, 2008 12:38:56 PM
That is a good point Savin, that devil was way too strong for her to summon. Is there a third player in this?
Jurgen [119/132] d20+11=19 ; d20+11=17 ; d20+11=15 ; d20+11=27 ; 3d8+5=11 ; 3d8+5=22 ; 3d8+5=22 ; 3d8+5=24 ; Friday May 9th, 2008 3:28:03 PM
"Thank you. There's nothing else I'm in need of." He gives an off-handed wave as the Archon disappears and then pulls out his Cure Serious Wounds wand. He burns four charges before the heals successfully hit him. [Caster Level Check vs DC 24 - Fail with 19, 17, 15 - Success with 27.] [Cure Serious Wounds x4 - 11, 22, 22, 24] Jurgen sits there, at the duel site, curing his wounds realizing that there is something utterly ridiculous about the way he's going about it. [Lay on Hands - 9 HP]
"Savin, you shouldn't be sorry. We weren't expecting a fight on our hands and when it happened, nobody was prepared. I should mention now, I'm pretty sure my new abilities are focused on preventing you and the other Children from getting hurt and less on hurting others..." He says this with a shrug, as if apologizing for it. As Firn'gaer goes to tell Peerimus of what has occurred, Jurgen stops Savin for a moment. "Tell me, is their blood on your hands?" He knows the question sounds ridiculous, but he looks to the monk's fists. "We'll need some of the demon's blood to ensure that we can track him..." If Savin has none, Jurgen will rush to find Kazak and see if the dwarf has cleaned his sword yet.
Savin Illegal post Friday May 9th, 2008 4:30:05 PM
Savin will show Jurgen his magical gloves to see if their is any devil blood on them. If their is, he will scrape it off and give Jurgen the sample for the location spell he is thinking about.
(OOC Guess that one is a DM discretion call. Never said I was cleaning the blood off, but then again, I never do and I make the assumption that Savin does. Was in a bit of a hurry this time to try and catch up to the seconds so it is possible.)
Tension [DM BrianZ] Sunday May 11th, 2008 5:59:00 PM
Durgan and Kazak drop offthe bodies at the town cemetary. Their seconds collect the belongings shortly thereafter. Durgan and Kazak head to the Inn for some ale.
Trace heads to the Catacombs to make some purchases. (OOC- to all: please take the shopping to the Catacombs board.)
Firn'gaer teleports to Peerimus and informs him about what has happened. (Normally you would need better info on his location to do this, but as it is story, I'll allow it :)
Caraveer ponders Savin's question for a moment. "Hmmmm. I wouldn't have thought so, but I am no mage. I couldn't say for sure. You may examine her spellbook if you like. Maybe that will help?" Caraveer takes his leave to take care of her body.
to all: wisdom checks please... :)
Jurgen heals himself, then asks about the demon's blood. Everyone cleaned themselves and weapons off(I will assume everyone normally does this), but there is some on the ground in sufficient amount to what Jurgen requires.
There is some worrisome information imparted about what is going on in Hook City.Tensions between elven and dwarven communities seems to be very tense. More information may be needed...
Savin d20+6=16 ; Sunday May 11th, 2008 11:37:25 PM
Savin accepts the offer of Jillian's spellbook but adds, "I will have to give it to Firn'gaer to study. It is all goblin to me."
Savin takes his leave and goes to check out his school and see how his old master is doing with his new students. He will explain to her about his adventures over the last couple of days and wonder at the sudden racial tension between elves and dwarves.
After checking in, Savin will try and meet up with the rest of the group and bring up the prophecy they heard wondering if it has any relevance. (ooc Anybody have that written down anywhere? Or remember the date so I can go back and reread it?") Savin will then order a mug of tea, and ponder everything that is going on.
Peerimus and Yorrick d20+7=23 ; Monday May 12th, 2008 5:45:08 PM
The druid remains in Dire Bear form and tells Firngaer of the frost giants going to war over the Dame's stolen ring by another orc tribe. The bear also conveys that Feyr sent word of this and of his dark opinion that another group of orcs is bold enough to have done such a thing. "Because if they were strong enough to not be concerned with a heavy reprisal I am just as concerned taht we had no idea they were here." Peerimus explains that he is heading towards the centaurs. They befriended the taurs and the recent events of devils gating to our lands, giants and orcing warring and the future glimpse of another great elf-dwarf war looming, it was thier responsibility to tell them sooner rather than later. "Devils are immortal, I can't imagine he is in some tremendous hurry to cross us again as it sounds like the first confrontation did not go too well for him. I will scry him later."
"I only have a single transport spell, can you get back or are you coming along to the Taurs now?"
[wis check 23]
Kat'Miara Monday May 12th, 2008 7:50:15 PM
Walking next to Jurgen, she chats aimlessly.
"Yep, that was an exciting fight! I almost wish that big lady who lost her ring was here to see it, she would've loved it." Reaching into her hip pouch. "See? Isn't it real pretty? I found it right after we telly-ported back here, just in time for the duel. Didn't have an option to show anyone other my Kit, but it is _real_ pretty, isn't it!" Tries it on her hand.. watches as it almost is the right size for a bracelet, eyes widening. "Hey! maybe if I get the right jeweler, I can get this turned into a bracelet until I see her again! That way I couldn't miss it, or forget to give it to her..."
Jitters [DM BrianZ] Monday May 12th, 2008 7:53:06 PM
Savin checks in on his school. The teacher has not heard much about the elves and dwarves being irritable with one another but notes that Holly's friend left town a little while ago to save her any grief for his being a dwarf.
Savin tells Caraveer he will check on the spellbook later with Firn'gaer's help.
Kazak worries over the current affairs. He and Durgan go to the Inn to see if Martrek will offer up any more info.
Kazak then goes to Holly's store. She is not rude to him, but does seem to impress upon Kazak that he should take his shopping to the Catacombs before she returns to work.
trace heads to the Catacombs.
Kit and Kat look around for trouble but don't seem to find much. Maybe they need to look harder?
Jurgen collects a sample of blood, then checks on the supplies. They will be ready, along with teams to handle the horses and mules, in two days.
Firn'gaer gives Peerimus an update. Peerimus takes it in, then proceeds to the Centaur camp. (With Firn'gaer?) Peerimus will reach their camp by morning.
Durgan Monday May 12th, 2008 7:54:41 PM
Durgan donates his potion clw to the town guard.
(ahh...........that dosent work? sorry wasnt paying attention, please show my wis check a 16 total. act plus is 3.)
Trace waits with his number in hand wondering where the store keepers are. "I dont think I have ever seen the catacombs this empty. (no one there?)
Savin Tuesday May 13th, 2008 6:18:15 PM
Savin meets with the others and says, "Lets get this wagon of supplies to the giants as we agreed and then see if we should chase after the horned devil. Not sure how we can stop it since it has the ability to teleport. Firn'gaer, can you keep him from doing that? Now that we know its weaknesses, I am sure we can cut it down fast enough but if it can just flit away, then the situation is hopeless."
Jurgen Tuesday May 13th, 2008 8:00:59 PM
"Uh.. Kat, you got that ring from the giants?" Jurgen winces to himself. "That really can't be very good. I guess all we can hope is that she doesn't notice that it's missing and we give it back to her, hidden in the wagon's goods? Will you hold onto it and be very sure that it doesn't get lost until then, Kat?"
When meeting up with Savin and the others, "We've got another two days before the wagon is ready. But you're right, the demon should become our next priority. Scrying on a subject you've never seen before is difficult, even with the blood. Peerimus does has the spells to scry, but I think Firn'gaer and I should be the one who does it because we're going to need to teleport to the devil. And there's little assurance that he'll be near a tree. So Firn'gaer and I will scry, find out where the bugger is and gauge that location, then teleport the group in? Does that sound good to everyone? If it does, I think Firn'gaer and I need to go spend some money on scrolls."
(OOC: Rules question: In the teleport description it says: "You may also bring one additional willing Medium or smaller creature per caster level or its equivalent." Now it says a Large counts as two mediums, but does a small count as half a medium?
We should be able to make the devil fail his Will save. Having some of his blood should give him a -10 to it, which'll make our job easier. My only problem with a scrying plan is that we still have to beat the devil's spell resistance. Which is hard enough for Firn'gaer, who is a pure caster, but Jurgen's caster level is a couple lower. Anyone have any ideas on how to get by this problem?)
"Uh, uh! I found it just lying there on the ground. Leaving it in a wagon, or handing it to someone else, even you, sis, seems just wrong. What if someone else who's not going to want to return it finds it among the wagons? And sis, I knw you mean well, but always did have a hard time remembering where ma's baking rack was in the kitchen back home." Shaking her head, stubbornly, she continues. "Nope. I'm going to get the ring adjusted the teensiest bit so that I can wear it as a bracelet, and make sure the next time I see her, she know I found it, and I gave it back to her!"
Stomping her foot, she walks ahead for a space of about 15 feet, almost catching up to the Dwarves carrying the bodies. Smelling the dead's stench, she wrinkles her nose, and slows down again....
Firn'gaer Tuesday May 13th, 2008 11:18:35 PM
"Alright." He says to Peerimus. "I cannot teleport again until I've had time to study so I will travel with you to the taurs."
Peerimus and Yorrick Wednesday May 14th, 2008 9:10:01 AM
"Excellent then, you could use some fresh air my friend. We should be there by morning. I will take us back home, you'll likely need the transport spells to get many of us to this devil if we can locate him. But one thing at a time. First is telling the taurs." Peerimus and Yorrick move quickly, Firngaer can ride on either of the great bears furred backs easily enough, though Prreims is the larger.
"Something occurs to me. What we seem to be living through is what we saw resulted in our glimpse of the future. It also seems to be the old classic hatreds that are surfacing. Perhaps they are the easiest to stir. Giant against orc, dwarf against elf. What concerns me most is the other very classic hatred. Man against nature shortly followed by man against man. It also occurs to me that there may be nothing we can do but survive the coming storm and try to bring as many through it as we can. Stopping it may not be an option."
Peerimus falls silent and simply moves through the wood. Yorrick grunts, most of the conversation far beyond his comprehension save that of the threat of man ingrained into his survival instincts.
More information i have found 30 Days of Rain v2 [Guest DM SteveK] Thursday August 30th, 2007 12:29:49 PM
Heranmar The rain is an everyday occurance, but Peerimus and the other Children of Chaos are reassured that this is the normal rainy season. "Well, normal for the last 50 or more years", is the comment. It seems the legend is that the Gateway Downs displeased the Powers in some way, and as a punishment it now rains almost 9 months a year. This has flooded great portions of the Gateway Downs and has really curtailed industry. The people are resigned to the rain, and the old women tell of a prophesy by the Five Crones that if the people persevere and stoically accept the rains until the next Great Migration, then Gateway Downs will once again be blessed. This always ends with the elderly woman patting an arm and saying "And the appearance of Strangers from Far Away is the first sign the Migration is near."
The bold part makes me think we really do not want to stop the Migration, and that will be the direction Peerimus is taking
Tying Loose Ends [DM SteveK] Friday May 16th, 2008 11:46:10 AM
ooc: All, my profound apologies. Don't know what happened, but didn't realize until Thursday that there wasn't a DM post since Monday. My bad. Everyone gets a free question. (Answers optional) ........................
Peerimus and Firn'gear are able to easily track down the centaurs and tell them of the giant/orc situation and the demon that is in the area. The centaurs are happy enough that the giants aren't staying and decide to stay in the area for at least the season to see if they will continue to live here or migrate further. "The stars are telling me that the time of migration is coming near", informs the centaur sage, "but how and in what form? They are silent." Of the demon, the centaurs can do little other than promise to send a messenger to the Children in case they see any signs. And the next morning, Peerimus and Firn'gear is able to return to Heranmar. .........................
Trace goes to the Catacombs, makes his purchases, and returns in less than a day. (ooc: Trace, go on to the Catacombs and do your purchasing. We will play as if you already have them so as not to delay game time.)
It takes two days to get the wagons of supplies ready for the giants. In the meantime, the group gets together (now that Peerimus and Firn'gear are back) and gets some rest time and serious information gathering...
a- On the Devil. The group agrees that some scrying is needed, as well as some means of keeping the demon from teleporting whenever it wants. And now that the whole group is back, some planning can begin.
b- On the elf/dwarf problem. There is some worrisome information imparted about what is going on in Hook City.Tensions between elven and dwarven communities seems to be very tense. More information may be needed...
c- On the Giants. Peerimus can tell the others about the status of the giants and the others tell the druid and wizard the status of the wagon.
(OOC: Rules question: In the teleport description it says: "You may also bring one additional willing Medium or smaller creature per caster level or its equivalent." Now it says a Large counts as two mediums, but does a small count as half a medium? Sorry, but no :-)
OOC: On the constant Rain. Long time hero Trace reminded the DM (OK, informed, awright?) that the original team, Southern Lights, ended the constant rain without the Great Migration. For this rains purposes, it has slowly been getting more and more rain in the area, as if... should I say? As if the rains are returning, coinciding with the rumors of the Great Migration being imminent.
Kat'Miara-OOC Friday May 16th, 2008 1:17:58 PM
:Newbie Question: Is the main plant prodict around here fungus? Are there barnacles everywhere? Are the plants stuggling to survive? Have we developed Marshes over any part of land that isn't a mountain? Have the sailors been reporting more exposed shoals, lowering of the oceans, etc??:
DMSteveK: The land is temperate overgrowth. Patches of dense forest with heavy vines, many ponds, lakes, swampy areas, and carefully cultivated fields. Crops are excepionally fast growing to accomodate long rainy season, and also water plants like rice, watercress, and the like. (Map of Gateway Downs in the Woldipedia gives the major swamp areas.) There doesn't seem to have any effect on the ocean. Though in a recent adventure, the CoC discovered that the rainy season only is for Gateway Downs: it stopped abruptly 10 miles out in the ocean...
Peerimus and Yorrick Saturday May 17th, 2008 4:45:44 PM
The centaurs have been told and we still have an agreement to keep with Jarlsdotter. The wagon must be brought to the camp near their last base. To the devil, yes we must pursue it but I do not know precisely how to go about it. Firngaer, i am sure could cast an anchoring spell. He either has it or with a scroll purchase could have it quite easily. The trouble is that of the devils spell resistance. In every fight we have had with the greater denizens of the lower planes, penetrating thier Spell Resistance has proven difficult. Once Firngaer casts it the first time I would expect the devil to exit if still able. Meaning he has, but a single attempt." Peerimus turns to look at the pair of halfling rogues. "Can either of you employ spells from scrolls?"
"From what the Centaur seer told us, it would seem the prophesy is coming close at hand and the Great Migration with it. It would seem racial divides and hatreds of old that will lead to wide spread war and destruction will be accompanying it or perhaps leading up to it. The safety of Heranmar and our people should be our primary concern and our movements should reflect this. Because of this, I do not beleive Hook City and the troubles there should be on our agenda. We know of a large contingent of the Mailed Fist has gone to the area, we can expect them to encounter within thier own ranks as it was of mixed race similar issues. To this I believe the command staff should be warned, they may be able to take preemptive measures. I would suggest to them to seperate thier units and send some out of the region. Though that may do little as I suspect the whole of the Southern continent will be experiencing this phenomenom."
peerimus looks about the group, "To these points are we in agreement thus far? Us more than any others on the Downs must stand and demonstrate our solidarity. Dwarf and elf, man and man, gnomes and halflings all."
Savin Sunday May 18th, 2008 5:17:46 PM
Savin listens to Peerimus occassionally nodding his head in agreement. He says, "I think we need to delivery our two wagon loads of supplies to the giants as we agreed as our first priority. We then need to track down this devil. We will need the ability to teleport the entire group to wherever he is, which could be anywhere once we find his location. Then we can try to anchor him as we quickly beat him down. If we go in buffed up with hastes, silver and any other spell you think that will help us finish him off, then I am sure he will fall quickly.
I don't mind chipping in for some scrolls but I think Firn'gaer has the best chance of beating the devil's spell resistance. If we want to buy 2-3 scrolls, that is fine. Now we need to decide if we are all going to deliver the wagons or do we wish to split up. Always seems we get into trouble splitting up but I am willing if you are."
Forgot my question...I can never remember my old master's name. Could you refresh my memory?
DM SteveK: :-) I had to look myself, all the way back to 30 Aug 2007. Her name is "Jala", one of the better teachers from Savin's youth.
Due to ongoing computer problems, I am looking for a sub for say, two weeks. I am in the process of ordering a new computer and am looking at least a week for shipping. I expect to have sporadic access to the internet till then. Will post on LnB as well. Thanks!
Jurgen Sunday May 18th, 2008 7:13:05 PM
"I do agree that, regarding the Migration, Heranmar is our first priority. We are beset by problems on all sides. Giants, devils, the racial tensions. It may well be that, in time, the whole of the Southern Continent requires our protection. But for now, we most focus on what we can do. Trade with the giants and find a way to return the Dame's ring which we..." He coughs, "accidentally acquired. Find and kill the Horned Devil, before he can cause us a great deal of harm."
"If we get multiple scrolls and Firn'gaer needs to try again and again, I am fairly certain I can keep him from harm." Jurgen cracks his knuckles with a grin towards Durgan and Kazak. "It seems that I'm a bit more capable of getting right into the thick of it. Looks like I'll be standing side-by-side with you two instead of safely hiding in the trees."
"You're right, Peerimus. This issue between the dwarves and the elves may not be a problem we can solve. We should still make it clear to those we protect, that we will not permit fighting about it in and around Heranmar. There are enough threats from without for us to be concerned with and, as the Migration draws closer, we won't have the time to deal with those from within."
(OOC: Free question? Hmm. Do we know what the intentions of the Star Mages are for the Southern Continent?
Also, I hate to throw another rules question. But I'm gunna do it anyway. Anyone may have an answer for it, I just don't fully understand the line: "In many cases, spell resistance applies only when a resistant creature is targeted by the spell, not when a resistant creature encounters a spell that is already in place." Does that mean that, if we got the Horned Devil to walk into an area with a Dimensional Lock spell already in place, he'd be unable to teleport away?)
DM SteveK: Star Mages: OK, a bit of an inside scoop here. The Star Mage Guild official position is posted on the Woldipedia for the Star Mages, and generally they are following that for the Southern Continent. However, there are individuals or sub-groups in the Star Mages Guild that have thier own agendas...
Rules on Spell Resistance: Interesting. I found two sentences in the same paragraph on Spell Resistance 1) "Spell resistance can protect a creature from a spell that's already been cast. Check spell resistance when the creature is first affected by the spell." and 2)"Spell resistance has no effect unless the energy created or released by the spell actually goes to work on the resistant creature's mind or body. If the spell acts on anything else and the creature is affected as a consequence, no roll is required." Bit of a stumper for me.
For Spell Resistance, I am going to defer to the Spell Discriptions in the PHB. If it says "Spell Resistance: Yes", then yes. If no, then no.
NOTE: It also says "A creature can voluntarily lower its spell resistance. Doing so is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. Once a creature lowers its resistance, it remains down until the creature's next turn." I don't know if this may help in planning or what the group could come up with to have a Horned Devil voluntarily lower his resistance, but you may be more conniving than I...
Tying Loose Ends [DM SteveK] Monday May 19th, 2008 10:46:07 AM
There seems to be little trouble for Kit and Kat to get into other than small items lying loose and houses with such easy locks that they are begging to be explored. So far, they have not been caught, but perhaps intentionally getting caught would provide a pleasant chase?
It seems the Children of Chaos are generally in agreement about having too many strings and needing to put them in priority. The first is tomorrow, to escort the waggons go out to the giant's old campsite. The second is to track down the devil and put paid to his plans before there is more misery. The third is preparing a defense for the seeming to be imminent Great Migration. And that's where the plans become fuzzy.
1- Should the CoC hunker down and prepare Heranmar? All of Gateway Downs? Or even expand thier support to all of the Southern Continent?
2- Peerimus proposes going to see the regional headquarters of the Mailed Fist and warning them about the elf-=dwarf racial tensions.
3- So far there are three voices agreeing to write off the elf-dwarf tensions in Hook City as too far away and the city and the only known Star Mages Guild outpost needs to look out for itself. Not everyone has chimed in however...
Peerimus and Yorrick Monday May 19th, 2008 11:44:04 AM
OoC Dank 1) "Spell resistance can protect a creature from a spell that's already been cast. If the spell acts on anything else and the creature is affected as a consequence, no roll is required."
1) devil is hit by spell such as Dimensional Anchor or when first encountering an anti magic field or Dimensional Lock. Horny gets to roll SR 2) I put a vorpal spell on my sword and cut his head off as a result. Horny gets no SR against the spell that enabled the vorpaling to happen
(OOC: I do feel like being clearer on the elf/dwarf thing. It's not that I'm suggesting we write it off. It's that, at this moment, there doesn't seem to be an issue for us to solve. Other than the dual (and it's consequences), the only real news we have about it is that the Mailed Fist is involved and they told us to bugger off. Unless I'm blatantly ignoring some piece of information that we already received?)
Kit'Miara Monday May 19th, 2008 8:11:53 PM
Kat'Miara Monday May 19th, 2008 8:37:49 PM
Giggling, she looks sideways at Kit, and nods her head... "Maybe we could outrun a dwarf! They can't get into the fun cubbyholes we can, and they're easy to tease..."
Durgan - Sub Al Monday May 19th, 2008 9:23:41 PM
"Deliver the cart, aye." The defender of dwarven halls lifts his mug to his lips to hide a faint flush of chagrin that colors his cheeks. A rill of amber ale finds its way from the corner of his mouth and down the side of his beard as Durgan drains the mug.
*bang* He slams the butt of the earthen tankard down upon the table.
"Barkeep! I'll have me another." Durgan wipes his mouth with the back of his hand.
"Aye. First the cart. Then we take a crack at that devil again."
Savin Monday May 19th, 2008 10:25:52 PM
Savin waits impatiently for Peeerimus or someone to decide where they are going next. "Come on Boss, make a decision!"
(sorry for absence, when my wold goes upside down, it seems this is the first to suffer, will try and correct that in the future. does anyone else refer in real life as the wold sometimes?)
Trace returns out of the catacombs with his supplies and rejoins the group. Hereing the conversation Trace pipes in, "It is not our situation to deal with yet. Mostly humans live in Hernamar. sFor the most part, the only elves and dwarves around now besides the deceased are in our group. And we certianly dont have a problem here." A bit of a smile crosses Traces face, "As we all well know how that would end up anyway." Trace leaves that last statment handing in the air like a big red button that says "dont push!" Trace show the group his new arrows and equipment and tells them "Well, I think the devil will be dispatched much quicker now if we can catch up with him. I think that should be our first priority. Where is Peerimus?
Kazak Monday May 19th, 2008 11:06:32 PM
"Hehehehe .... easy der brother .... don't hurt da table " laughs Kazak
Looking about at the others " so whats da plan ?? ....ya got any particular path ya want to follow ??"
" we can't do all of dis at da same time ....but we should settle our debt with da giants and figure out what else der up too ??....but less make a choice soon .... or me brother here will drink da town dry " grins Kazak
Peerimus and Yorrick Tuesday May 20th, 2008 10:14:44 AM
"What we do now is simple. We take the supplies to trade with Jarlsdotter." Glancing to the pair of Halflings, "With racial tensions on the rise I would think it unwise at best to purposefully cause trouble in a town full of humans within the group lead by one who will certainly take his own peoples side over yours in a self caused conflict you create." He then turns to the rest of the group.
"We leave tomorrow morning with the wagons. Do anything you feel you must but be combat ready to go at first light. Near the giant camp we can attempt to scry on the demon and move against him assuming he is within our reach."
Peerimus moves to his grove to collect Yorrick and give Wanderwood a quick hello and to remind the great tree of the Live Oak at his disposal should the grove come under assault. He will spend the night in the grove and at first light prepare his spells for the coming days.
Savin Illegal post Tuesday May 20th, 2008 10:55:07 AM
Savin spends the night at the school talking with Jala to get her perspective on the racial tensions hitting the area and has several one on one practice sessions with some of the students if they are available. He will deal with any of the mundane concerns the school might be experiencing but is ready at dawn to move out with the giant supplies.
Durgan - Sub Al (2nd Post) Tuesday May 20th, 2008 11:16:17 AM
"First light!" Durgan snatches up the new mug frothing with ale. A splash of ale hits the taproom floor as he raises the tankard in the direction of the human druid.
"No one puts a Stonewall to fright and gets away with it."
The dwarf drains the mug in a single pull, and once again slams it down upon the table top.
"I've got me a score ta settle."
Kit'Miara Tuesday May 20th, 2008 1:24:19 PM
Kit downs another ale and agrees with the plan. She whipers to Kit "Yeah that would be fun lets find someone"
Jurgen Tuesday May 20th, 2008 5:08:15 PM
"Remember, we may not have an opportunity to hit the Catacombs before dealing with this devil. So if you need a silver weapon, go now." Jurgen gives a nod of his head to the group before getting up to go. "We're going to have to worry less about defense in this fight and more about sticking a blade in his black heart. Many, many times."
As Savin heads out the door, the paladin quickly follows. "Savin, how many of your school would be ready for a fight? This Migration is coming and I doubt we can stop it. But the unrest that will come before and after it? Maybe that we can put a handle on."
(OOC: I have another question that isn't too spoilery at all. haha. How big a town is Heranmar? I know we have a town guard that is decent sized, but other then that I don't really know.)
Tying Loose Ends [DM SteveK] Tuesday May 20th, 2008 5:54:33 PM
Peerimus cautions the halflings not to cause more trouble, as racial issues don't need to be made worse. It is not sure whether Kit and Kat will heed the druid's comments...
Savin speaks with Jala about the racial tensions between elf and dwarf and the elder woman sits for a while gathering her thoughts. "Ancient stories tell of a terrible war between the elves and the dwarves. The First MIgration, the tearing apart of the Continent, ended the war. Logically, I think that memory of those two long-lived races are good and that they would not begin a war again. Not unless there was some motivating force." She casts a rheumy eye at Savin to see if her protege' is thinking along the same lines. "Go and see the wagons safe, and we can talk more on your return."
.............................
As the waggons and the Children of Chaos arrive at the abandoned tribal campsite, the Orc shaman Grummpk is waiting with a dozen strong-looking orcs. They are armed and armored, but it looks like normal 'protection' set up and not a war party. "Good, good. The Dame said you would be here, and here you be. We take waggons now and not go near Heranmar." He begins to motion his orcs forward. "You keep horses and drivers, my warriors will pull waggons."
Firn'gaer Tuesday May 20th, 2008 9:38:05 PM
"I don't have Dimensional Anchor, but as you said, it wouldn't be difficult to get a scroll or two."
"Should we not, then, go out and meet this tension between the races head on. We should discuss the best course of action in accomplishing this, but I would prefer to prevent a war rather than having to stop one."
"I would appreciate your protection Jurgen."
"I can give you some insight into the Star Mages Guild. They are wizards, and I say that as one of them. But what is generally believed about wizard holds true and especially true for a guild of that size - every wizard has his or her own agenda and pursuits. Sometimes those agendas coincide with others, but should the agenda of a powerful wizard clash with others of similar ilk . . . beware. Even more dangerous is a powerful wizard when he has become so focused on his pursuits that all those that stand before him are but either pawns or inconveniences. His tunnel vision can become bad enough that the lines of right and wrong blur and all that is left is his pursuits. It is a very frightening thing, very dangerous for very little can stand before a truly powerful wizard."
Durgan - Sub Al Tuesday May 20th, 2008 11:31:31 PM
Silent and dour through the morning's march, Durgan waves an axe wielding hand in the direction of the departing orcs. Go yer way. the gesture says, with, perhaps, not a small nuance of Good riddence thrown in for measure.
"Agenda, ye say?" the dwarf snorts in reply to Firn'gaer's cautionary description of the Star Mage's Guild. "Brings me to mind that Randall fellow. Not a bad sort." Durgan's brows lower in a thoughtful frown. "I suppose."
Trace and Shadow Wednesday May 21st, 2008 2:57:16 AM
Trace retrives his horse from the stable and meets up with the group. He likes riding when he can and Shadow lopes along after Trace and his horse sporting her new Mithrill chain armor. I'll have to figure out a way to keep that armor quite but this will help keep her in the fight longer now. The las couple of run ins she was basicly just a cheerleader on the sidelines.
Trace readies for war, Straps his bracers down tight, checks his armor, reloads his quivers with a new setup. Efficent Quiver x2 (120) one quiver filled with 13 seeking distance arrows and 47 regular arrows, the other quiver is filled with 30 silver arrows and 30 adamantine arrows and prepares a new set of spells for the day.
Before leaving town, Trave gives two gold coins to the stable master that watches his horse. "Here take this money, every day check on the first post for some sort of bird or mouse or any small creature. I will use this to contact the town if ever I need to send word. There will be a written note on it for you to read. Oh and here is another 5gp for the care you have given my horse.
OOC Did we get paid for the transaction? Just making sure!
Savin also watches the transaction with the orcs but is wondering if these orcs are still on the good side of the giant. Didn't he hear about them battling each other over a lost ring? Savin hold out his hand and says, "Peerimus, give me a minute."
When he pulls him aside he will explain his concerns and add, "I think we need to be careful here. It is bad enough our group somehow ended up with the Dame's ring which has never been explained to my satisfaction by the way. Did our halfling sisters steal it or was it planted on them? If it was planted on them, it begs the question of by whom and what is that party's agenda.
Still that issue aside, if we give the Dame's food to a rival group of orcs she is at war with, it is not going to help our cause. I think we need to go all the way to her camp and make sure we are doing the right thing."
Kat'Miara d20+5=20 ; Wednesday May 21st, 2008 12:26:11 PM
Looking shocked at Savin, she stomps right up to him, hands on hips, and scowls at hime soo cutely...
"I do not steal! And no one could've planted a ring on me! It was lost, and I found it! To think, you thought that..." sputter, mumble.. "And that I would never..." mutter, sputter... Incoherent.
Peerimus and Yorrick Wednesday May 21st, 2008 2:24:52 PM
Peerimus greets the orc shaman and steps forward holding a hand up in greeting, not to shake but merely say hi. "Our honor keeps us Grummpk as it does you. You have brought the ores and stones of course." Savin bekons Peerimus to the side and the druid listens and responds, "Feyr gave me the belief if was a second orc group and not the orcs directly under the Dames control, but pudence dictates we confirm that. With the Dame having moved her camp to attack the orcs, I do not think we need to pursue her in this matter. She left it to Grummpk and if the giants were angry for blood over the orcs in thier very camp I do not think Grummpk would be here now." With the orcs right with them, Peerimus cuts Savin short on any conversation about the ring. "Now is not the time to entertain such thoughts." Glancing at Kat, he adds, "Nor to my satisfaction, but we will discuss it later."
Peerimus will speak to the shaman about the other tribe and the state of the retaliations, size and strength, thier name, their leadership and his personal view on the situation as a whole. "This ring of the Dame's must be considerably valuable for such trouble. Or is she always so generous in her displays of unsatisfaction?"
OOC Peerimus hit/is hitting the Catacombs for 4 vials of Silver sheen. 1,000gp
Tying Loose Ends [DM SteveK] Wednesday May 21st, 2008 4:20:46 PM
The stable master thanks Trace and promises to have his daughter check the post as part of her morning chores. "We know the Smith well enough, and he's on the town Council, yer message will get through, Protector."
...............
Grummpk grins ferrally as Peerimus speaks. "Yah, Speaker-To-Trees, you and your companions are powerful. I not try to pretend with you. You are right, your honor keeps us, that and your swords. But since your honor and swords are more powerful than ours, we keep our bargain."
The twenty warriors move into a thicket and pulls aside some concealing branches to reveal the required ores and stones piled somewhat neatly.
The shaman continues, "The Dame angry over Feyr and the wolves leaving and not coming back. But because they gone, Dame needs Grummpk even more. That good. For other tribe," and Grummpk shrugs, "soon not other tribe. Will be part this tribe. Yah, special ring. Is one of heirlooms of Dame's giant-king ancestors. Orcs understand importance of ancestors. It is worth going to war."
"Grummpk has map in head to meet Dame and others with waggons. We not trouble Speaker-To-Trees again."
Pending any last questions, Grummpk and his orcs waste little time in moving off to the north and west with thier goods.
The Children have completed one task, and may begin seeking for the devil right here or return to Heranmar. Firn'gaer points out that it is easier to prevent a war than stop one once it breaks out. Perhaps the CoC should pursue this elf dwarf thing more closely?
Jurgen Wednesday May 21st, 2008 8:00:06 PM
"I know as well as any that a powerful wizard is... dangerous, to say the least. I don't mean to attack your guild, Firn'gaer, but should we be wary of anyone specifically? Or of the Tower itself? The seer said that the Tower of Light will anger and leave. Perhaps, if we go to the Hook you would be able to cast a few questions about?"
The paladin gives a glance at the ores and stones, but doesn't look too closely. As the orcs leave, Jurgen shuffles up to Peerimus. "Last chance. Are we going to give the ring back and have her claim we stole it? I say not. If we keep it, we may find a use for it. Who knows? Maybe we'll need the Dame's help in the coming days. And what better way to get her attention than with her ancestor's heirloom?"
"What next? Not that this matter seems closed to me, but I have a feeling we won't really be tying up any loose ends. Everything is coming unraveled as we approach the Migration..."
Durgan - Sub Al Wednesday May 21st, 2008 8:26:15 PM
Durgan watches the proceedings with ham-like fists planted firmly upon his hips. His eyes fall upon the halfling sisters.
"Let all yer troubles be wee ones, they say." He rolls his eyes.
Savin Wednesday May 21st, 2008 10:14:23 PM
As the orcs depart Savin will send a frown towards Kat. He will glide over towards here with his hands on his hips and say, "Listen Kat, I am sorry if I insulted you. We really haven't known each other for very long but I was under the impression that you are a rogue. Rogues tend to steal things. If my impression was wrong then please accept my apologies.
On the other hand, if you are a rogue, I really don't care.....as long as you use your abilities for good. You and your sister are members of this group now and I will do my best to protect you and treat you as family. Don't do anything to hurt our family and we will be fine. "
Turning back to the others he says, "We either need to try to figure out what this migration is or chase after the demon. The giants will do what giants do, no matter if we return the ring or not. All we will do is bring suspicion down on us if we show up with it. Since Kat didn't take it, we need to know who or what might have slipped it to her. Is is someone trying to cause trouble or help us. I think we should at least figure out its abilities before we thing we return it. I am not keen on returning a powerful artifact to an evil giant."
Savin turns to Peerimus and asks, "So boss, which way are we going. Are we going to chase the devil? or the migration. I vote for the devil."
OOC Not sure if Savin's choice is wise. Seems the DM is hinting we should go to Hook City
Kat'Miara Wednesday May 21st, 2008 10:43:51 PM
Hearing Savin's words, she slows down, turns around, then smiles at Savin.
"That's alright. I am a rogue, and a good one as well. I may not know much about the spell-y stuff, but I think I'd know if someone tried something on me."
"And I don't know much about devils and such, but I know it liked fire. It kept throwing it at least. With all this rain here, it would probably want to find something dryer and warmer."
"Hey," she asks Savin, "do you know a good jeweler that could turn this very large ring into a small bracelet for me? I need some way to carry it around, and keep reminging myself to give it back to the giant leader lady next time I see her. It'd be easiest if it was on my wrist all the time..." she cocks her head to one side, puckishly.
The jumping around of conversation points are likely to make most non-halflings dizzy...
Kazak Wednesday May 21st, 2008 11:04:06 PM
The dwarf grin widens as Savin and the halflings debate the ring and its sudden apeareance " heh brother and you thought i was the one always getting into trouble " as he slaps Durgan heartily on the back
Spotting the ores and stones Kazak steps over and starts to gather them up in the empty carts (or loads them onto the horses) " da drivers can haul dis stuff back to town "
Responding to Savins vote " i'm fine with either direction .... just need a consensus among us all "
"I say we find out first," Durgan declares. "Though I'll admit to being partial to drubbing that devil, why don't you work your magic first? We'll look in on it, and if it's up to no mischief, or less mischief than would warrant a thumping, then we move on to Hook City."
"What say ye all?"
Firn'gaer Thursday May 22nd, 2008 10:28:45 AM
"Jurgen, I'm not sure what the implications are of the Mage's Guild and the prophecy, but in my glimpse of the future during our dealings with The Destroyer, it showed a civil war within the Star Mages Guild. I also play some unknown part in its rebuilding, but other than that brief, vague glimpse I am uncertain as to its meaning."
"As far as what to do next, I believe the devil will attempt to establish a hold somewhere, which may take some time. I would say we attempt to prevent any war between the elves and dwarves. We can try keep an eye on the devil by scrying, and if the opportunity presents itself to eliminate it, we take it."
Firn'gaer is going to purchase spells, Dimensional Anchor and Greater Scrying, from the Catacombs.
Tying Loose Ends [DM SteveK] Thursday May 22nd, 2008 12:35:11 PM
It seems as if the trade with the giants has gone off without a hitch and the group returns to Heranmar.
The Dame's Ring is determined not to give back, and Trace even suggests to bury it, but it looks like Kat is determined to have a new bangle. Certainly, the silversmith in Heranmar is adept enough to alter the size of a bit of jewelry and perhaps even alter the appearance a mite...
The CoC in Heranmar have the rest of the day to make whatever preparations they want to make to track down the Horned Devil. With Greater Teleportation available to the group, Trace's opinion that they could quickly take care of their loose ends and still make it to Hook City before the mercenaries seems to be sound.
Peerimus and Yorrick Thursday May 22nd, 2008 4:19:23 PM
Peerimus issues a strong warning to the halflings against such foolishness as trying to alter the dame's ring so as they could wear it. "It is an heirloom of an evil giant, likely magical with completely unknown properties and placing it upon your arm would be akin to swiping the crown from lord of fools and donning it"
"I do not know what 9 can possibly do in a city of thousands to prevent a war based around the hatred of another race solely based on that race. There is no logic or reasoning behind it and neither words nor actions will sway any away from that destructive path. That is end game of a race war. We would fight against finality and inevitability. My glimpse of the future was similar to Firngaer. The Star Tower was destroyed and the members removed from the entire southern continent. It is because of that, that I certainly believe that a single attempt against the devil is warranted. Of course that is based on Firngaer being successful at locating it. I really need not try, I never saw the creature and therefore have nearly no hope of doing so. Firngaer should try and locate it and we should be prepared to jump in and engage. I would also stress we need to keep the ability to immediately return here. If the Devil is able to flee, it may strike here testing to see if we possessed the foresight to return and defend our homes, which we will."
Peerimus then moves to Kat, "We need to know precisely how and where you found the ring."
Durgan - Sub Al Thursday May 22nd, 2008 5:40:57 PM
"I'm ready to engage it, Peerimus. Just get me close enough and I'll engage it good with me axe."
Kit'Miara Thursday May 22nd, 2008 10:35:36 PM
Kit listens to what Peerimus has to say then kicks her sister for being rude. She listens very carefully to the warning and decides it is best perhaps to not use the ring.... for now at least and she tells Kit to keep it in her pouches. She giggle when she hears Durgan say "Let all yer troubles be wee ones, they say."
Kat'Miara Thursday May 22nd, 2008 10:40:37 PM
"Simply enough, just like always." Kat says, turning to Peerimus. "After we were walking away, I made sure that I had all the stuff I usually have on me, something all halflings learn when we're wee ones, That's usually when I find out that I've recovered other people's items that they've dropped for them."
Pointing to the hip-pouch she 'discovered' she had put it in, she continues. "It was in here, and I am sure no one else was in it before me. I'd've known." A wiley look goes over her face. "Sis and I sometimes, if we can't find something interesting to do, practice our awareness of our stuff. Do you want to play that now, to prove it?"
Looking at Kit, she just grins.
Kazak Thursday May 22nd, 2008 10:43:06 PM
Listening to the discussion the dwarf adds his voice " well lets git dis Devil ..... den we can move on to other things .....i think lotta dis stuff is tied together somehow..... but we gotta start somewhere"
"But lets get rolling ......no time to waste " growls Kazak
OOC: lets move this along , we've been hanging in town too long !!!!
Savin Thursday May 22nd, 2008 11:18:32 PM
Savin agrees as he pulls out a vial of silversheen. "Yes lets end this threat of the devil, but lets go prepared. When are we going? I will a minute or so to drink some potions and apply this silversheen. I have more if anyone needs it?"
Savin looks inquiring at the others. "Does anyone else want to buff up?"
Trace and Shadow Friday May 23rd, 2008 2:09:09 AM
Firn'gaer , rember when you cast greater magic fang on my Shadow? Can you do the same with barkskin spell? I know it took alot out of you and it was much appreciated. This spell will help her in coming battles. If you are not able or it will be too taxing I understand, this is only a request not a beg.
Trace ask Firn'gaer another , "Is it possible to apply silver sheen to a fist or claw?" Trace readies spell componets for bark skin and cats grace and also notches a silver arrow for when and if they are able to transport to the horned devil.
Also, before we teleport to the devil, can someone cast haste upon me and Shadow? Then we will be armed to the tooth and ready to mow down ten devils. With my Holy Bow and silver arrows we should put a mighty sting in the devil.
Shadow AC 30, Hp 44 Trace AC 25, Hp 94
spells ready animal messanger, resist energy, bark skin, cats grace, darkvision, summon natures aly III
Kat'Miara Friday May 23rd, 2008 8:37:05 AM
Hearing a fight being readied, she spins around in place, suddenly clutching her weapon, as if ready to deal a death-blow.
"Oh wait!" SHe straightens up and starts patting herself all over. After a minute or two of this, she finally pats one, and the expression of surprise/relief/happiness washes over her like a fresh rainfall. "Here it is!"
She pulls out the wand given to her and her sister earlier, with runic markings all over it <Lightning rod.>
Jurgen Friday May 23rd, 2008 10:41:44 AM
"We've no need to buff up yet... We still need Firn'gaer to scry out way to the devil." Jurgen pulls out the bloodied cloth and hands it to the wizard. "Here you are. I hope that it'll come in handy." Other than that, he steps aside for a moment and finds himself uttering a quick prayer to Domi asking for the strength and courage.
Peerimus and Yorrick Friday May 23rd, 2008 10:49:47 AM
Peerimus's eyes narrow a bit on Kat, "So you are claiming that you found Dame Jarlsdotter's possibly most prized possession in your pocket, yet you did not take it and no one could have possibly have put it on you without your knowledge. One of those two possibilities in not true and therefore someone or something was trying to set us up against the Dame as we had made at the very least a non hostile agreement, or an enemy of the other orcs was getting them removed without having to get involved themselves."
"I also do not want to squash anyone's enthusiasm, but until Firngaer can actually scry on the devil, burining non replentishable resources or short term ones is unwise and unwarranted. First, Firngaer will need to defeat the creatures natural spell resistance, then overcome the creatures Will and lastly, he can not teleport all of us. There are eight of us, 11 if you include Yorrick and Shadow. Simply downing potions and spreading silversheen on some weapons and going is not a plan of action it is simply action. Savin, Kazak, Durgan and Trace are going, if the previous issues are overcome. The rest of us are not. If the scrying shows he is in a wooded area with a tree i can identify, I will take Yorrick, Jurgen and Kit and Kat. The danger in my going with the others is that we will not be able to return. I only have the single transport spell currently"
[ooc] Firngaer needs to beat the Devil's SR and then the devil must fail a will save against the scry, then we can teleport. or rather Savin, Kazak, Durgan and Trace and Firn can.
"We can get back to the theft of the Dame's ring at a later time."
The Children of Chaos return to Heranmar, few of them satisfied about the story or implications of the Dame's Ring in Kat's pouch. Yet they agree to concentrate on a threat closer to hand, the Cornugon, the Horned Devil loose in Gateway Downs.
(ooc: Making Firn'gear's move in order to move story ahead)
But to deal with the devil, only Firn'gear can hope to scry its location, and that is no mean attempt. The gnome wizard may be powerful, but he must overcome the devil's Spell Resistance (SR:28) and then overcome its Will (Will Save +15) to be able to see its location well enough for a Greater Teleport to bring him there. Even more, one failed Scry means the gnome has to wait until the next day to attempt again. Using a small spell of Fox's Cunning before scrying enables Firn'gear to boost his chances. Even so, it takes 6 days before both circumstances achieve the desired results. (Day1: SR 28, Will 32, Day2: SR 16; Day3: SR 30 Will 33; Day4: SR 16; Day5 SR 25, Day6: SR31 Will 17!!!)
Coming out of his scry, Firn'gear knows enough to Greater Teleport to the Horned Devil. It is in an underground chamber that seems to have once been natural, but has been enlarged to suit its new occupant. The most interesting thing about the cavern is it is half a black basalt type stone, and half a greyish stone shot with a pink quartz vien. Very unusual.
Firn'gear's careful scan of the area can tell that there is a tunnel leading from the cavern, the cavern is completely devoid of any light, and there doesn't seem to be any other noises other than the breathing of the devil as he carves out what looks to be the beginning of an infernal alter and pentagram. The pentagram is half on each type of rock.
Kazak Friday May 23rd, 2008 11:12:49 PM
Nodding at Peerimus's choices " bout time we got moving " grwols Kazak quietly as he scuffs his feet on the ground
Peering at the light fingered due the dwarf smiles at their enthusiasm ..... stepping near Kat as she shows the wand " thats the spirit .....that will come in handy ...and don't forget your bows ....just shoot and move .. ...it's always nice for us sword swingers to know we have fire support " grins Kazak
"I'm ready .... you ready Durgan ??"
Savin Saturday May 24th, 2008 12:18:05 AM
Savin grins in anticipation as they ready for battle. "Don't suppose anyone has a light spell handy? Sounds like it is going to be pretty dark. So who is going? Can I drink an enlarge potion before we go or will that affect the teleport spell
Savin will drink several potions before they go to buff himself up and prepare for battle but only if he knows that they will be teleporting directly to the cave and a quick battle. He will apply silversheen to his gloves and drink a potion of +4 barkskin and Potion of magic circle protection against evil. If he can without effecting the teleport he will suck down a potion of enlarge. If he can't he will have it ready to go in his hand.
"Firn'gaer or Jurgen, can you cast a haste on us before we go?"
Peerimus and Yorrick Saturday May 24th, 2008 12:30:06 PM
"Remember it is just the five of you. Firngaer, Savin, Kazak, Durgan and Trace and you will have maybe 12 seconds. Do not waste them when you arrive by drinking potions and other preparations. I have prepared several enhancing spells and protections for you. You are making a full offensive assault. If Firngaer's anchoring spell works then you can change tactics to a more balanced approach.
Peerimus will cast Protection from Energy Fire on each of them (120) Peerimus will Cast Barkskin on each of them (+5 Natural Armor) Peerimus will cast Freedom of Movement on Kazak, Durgan and Savin Peerimus will Cast Daylight on Kazak's and Durgans Belt buckles
Durgan (Sub/Al) d20+11=24 ; Saturday May 24th, 2008 9:03:46 PM
Days draw onto days. Durgan appears for each scrying, and after each scrying fails, he retires to the smithy to work on a weapon. On the first day, the separate parts clearly mark the weapon as a polearm of some kind. The second day marks its form as clearly that of a halberd. On the third day the weapon is complete, and the dwarven smith prepares the components to turn his work into the well balanced work of a master.
Day four passes on to day five, but the stones teach a dwarf patience, and on the sixth day that patience is rewarded.
"I'm ready brother." In one hand Durgan holds a potion. It's the same color and consistency as the one in Savin's hand. "There's gonna be a reckoning."
Rolls and Actions Craft(Weapon Making) 24 x 15 = 360 vs 100 for a week to complete.
OoC: Anyone have Align Weapon? It's my impression that to overcome the Devil's DR weapons have to be *both* Silver *and* Good.
Jurgen Sunday May 25th, 2008 3:22:49 PM
Jurgen shows up, much as Durgan, although he spends his days speaking with Holly or watching, Savin permitting, the monks as they train.
"Peerimus, I know you want them to go now. But the chamber may be unique and perhaps we could ask around?" Of course, the druid is eager to get on with it, so Jurgen will cast his buffs spells and then rush back to town. "Good luck, friends."
Jurgen will cast Protection from Evil on each of them [Extended - 22 minutes]. Jurgen will cast Haste on each of them [Extended - 22 rounds].
Jurgen goes to Holly's story asking her who would know enough about the area to find the cave with the black and grey cave with pink quartz.
(OOC: If you five still end up going right now, Jurgen has a +1 Holy Rapier and it's currently, as always, a +3 weapon with the daily Greater Magic Weapon casts. With an application of Silversheen, it would fit that profile Durgan. Anyone who wants can take it.)
