Scene 9: Attunement

The Sphere [DM Jerry]
Monday June 2nd, 2008 5:55:56 PM

As Calvierius races forward, he finds a small spherical room--a complete sphere. Floating in the middle of the sphere is the demon's mouth. Charred and black around the "lips" it begins to breathe in just as Calvierius dives over the lip to one side.

There he discovers that the sphere has the same gravitational effects as the tubes--there is gravity on all sides. So he comes to rest on the edge of the sphere, the larger room confusing one as to which way is up and down. It is easy to determine the direction where the tube comes out, but is one above that, or below that--or is one to the side?

The others move forward and duck in an alcove one last time as the fire blazes past. This close, the heat is nearly unbearable in the tube. The tube seems to expand a bit at this end from that heat. Touching the surface is uncomfortable.

In the sphere, which is about 25' in diameter, the walls are cool and the room seems to suffer no effects from the demon's breath.

Behind the flaming demon and opposite the tube are a pair of large golden doors. Intricately carved, the left door features a "child like" cherubic face. The right door has an "elderly face" with wrinkles and lines on the forehead. In a circle around the golden doors is a border of dancing and celebrating Teucri figures. The ones on the far left are babies. This circles around clockwise with the figures aging until the oldest one lies in a state of repose after death at the end of this "circle of life."

There are no other obvious exits.

-------------

Everyone gets 1000xp for finishing Test 4. True, everyone is not in the sphere yet, but the situation is solved.

Julien
Monday June 2nd, 2008 7:09:17 PM

Julien keeps dodging and then running, closer and closer. There was no way back, so it had to be forward. And dang it if he wasn't going to be burned to a crisp at the end of it.

"I'd like a strong word with whoever came up with this," he grumbles, keeping his spell book wrapped well within his robes. He'd rather torch his clothes than the book.

Keeping going, hopefully arriving in the sphere.

Zita
Monday June 2nd, 2008 7:33:39 PM

Zita takes a few last minutes breathes as the heated air cools down just a tad and is up and running the last little bit of distance to the sphere. Once inside she moves to the side and leans against the wall, fighting off the vertigo effects of the room as best she can. "Too much of that and we could shed a few pounds..." Glancing to Julien she simply shrugs. "I think that I prefer hot baths to this kind of broiling method." Her nose wrinkles and she arches her right eyebrow as she grimaces in distaste. "I think I will be needing one of those before long." She watches and waits for the others to make it safely inside before she will even think of turning her attention to the doors. Family must come first and foremost or what is she doing this all for.

As each one of her family comes in she will check with each to make sure that they are not badly injured and can continue. Though much of what she has endured the past weeks has hardened a part of her...she could not just dismiss those that have been a major part of her life. Besides, except for Calvierius, they have all been her friends for as long as she can remember...she trusts them as she hopes they trust her. "I need everyone to let me know that they are able to continue and no false bravado." Her eyes sweep each of her friends in turn and you find that they do not allow for telling half truths at this time.

[I want to thank both Carl and Anthony from the bottom of my heart for playing Zita while I was gone. I know that she was a main in the game and really could not be left out, but I am sure that Jerry could have come up with something if needed. I just hope that I can do the justice to Zita that I have seen done by you two with her.]

[Jerry, do I need to go back through and gather up the XP awards and total them for Zita as well? Just wanting to find out what I need to do for her to keep her with the rest of the group. I also am still needing toget a copy of the Woldian version of the Duelist so that I can start and tailor Zita in that direction. Thanks.]

Following and ducking and coveriong as needed Gigi finally finds his way to the sperical room and joins Cal by jumping into the room.

Picci
Monday June 2nd, 2008 10:14:40 PM

The dark-haired girl enters the spherical chamber as well, looking around her to try to make sure she is definitely OUT of the range/direction that the magic demon flame-thrower will be aiming in. She squints at the figures in sequence.

"Say..." Picci muses, nudging Bendis, "...what was it that the other rune-writing said? Something about 'new' and 'old', wasn't it...?"

(From Anthony)
Monday June 2nd, 2008 10:27:53 PM

OOC: It was my pleasure, though I didn't do much. I think Zita might need to keep Calverious on a shorter leash though. :) --- Good roleplaying group. Until next we meet.

Betheas
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 12:07:53 AM

Betheas makes the final sprint down the tube to meet up with the others in the major sphere.

Upon Zita's assessment of the group, Betheas manages a nod as he whipes the sweat from his brow. He is o.k. If not a little overwhelmed. The bowels of the earth is a strange place for an elf, and he is beginning to feel the strain.

He manages his way next to Cal, "You keep running, and I keep following... probably wouldn't have gone this far if you weren't so crazy. I guess there's always gotta be one." Deep breaths from the journey through the guantlet phase one.

"By the way, you made a comment back there about my glaive. Trust me, you want to be behind me in a fight. I'm not very good with this thing, you might want to stay clear for your own safety," the elf ends with a wink.

Scott : OOC
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 12:14:44 AM

OOC: Jerry, was the previous EXP bonus 750? I forgot to write it down.

BTW: I have all the 4.0 books on pre-order for June 7th. I will be diving into them because I have a full local group that I have been holding off until the new edition. No point starting a new group at 3.5. So if you guys need me on a consultant basis, to see how things are working, I am volunteering.

Bendis
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 5:59:10 AM

Bendis makes the last sprint into the circular chamber, and then looks at the elaborate doorway in facsination. "Ooh, look at that. Amazing! The craftsmanship! You're right, Julien, I'd lu-love to meet the makers of this place too. Quite remarkable." He completely misses Julien's point.

He nods to Zita. "Nuh-no false bravado from me. In fact no bravado of any sort, I'm afraid. But I can't wait to go on. I want to see what's next! This place is magnificent! A treasure trove! An archeological find of enormous importance!"

He shuffles about, peering at the carved doors and surrounding images. "You're right Picci," he mumbles. "How did it go?

Hide in plain sight.
Hide in the shadows.
Hide in hidden places.
Hide.

Well, we've done that bit. But then Gigi noticed those other carvings, didn't you, Gigi? "New" and "first" on the left, and "old" and "last" on the right. That seems to match what we're seeing here. So, I suppose the question is which duh-door do we open? The left door could suggest the start of life's journey, and the right the destination. That would indicate the right door is correct.

But birth and youth are considered favourable states in many cultures, in the human in particular. Old age and death are to be feared. That might suggest the left door.

I think in order to proceed it would help if we had any more information about this race, the Tuecri. Do we know how long their lifespan was? That's often a clue to a race's opinion of age. A shortlived race like the humans (no offense, my friends) tend to seize the moment, to burn brightly but briefly, and so place great value on youth. The longer-lived races, us dwarves, and the elves, tend to see old age and death slightly diferently, as more of a final reward. Dwarven funerals, typically, are more a celebration of life than a time for grieving.

So, does anyone know how these Tuecri considered life and death? Was one more favoured than the other? Or were the two held in balance? If that were the case perhaps both doors should be opened together."

Rosario Sheet
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 2:49:16 PM

Rosario sits on the wall just insid the tube and out of reach of any more fire. "Yes, yes, terribly fascinating to be sure Bendis." His voice carries sarcasm, but not in the overwhelming way in which might have but a few short days ago. He listens to Bendis though, the codger might ramble but if you could stick it out, he usually seemed to end up at something resembling a point. Unfortunately for Rosario, it was usually the long way to some arcane trappings or discovery which bored him beyond watching dirt settle, or wine aging. Gods how he disliked that. Rosario's mind began to wander and suddenly he realized Bendis had stopped talking with a question. Hell. Wonder what he said. Something about teh doors, life and death and then blah blah was all the boy heard.

Rosario looks over at the doors. "Beggining and end life and death. Not to underthink it, but it seems a good choice would be to grab the left door. We are embarking on new lives and adventure here. Our old ones are already dead and gone." Ouch that sounded far harsher and plain out loud Rosario winces slightly himself

Betheas
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 3:24:39 PM

"Spoken like a human."

"Why don't we just let Cal pick a door. We see what happens, then we either follow, or choose the other."

Calvierius
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 3:43:20 PM

Calverius spent a while panting softly and attempting to catch his breath. He grinned at Betheas, and said, "Well, in that case I'll stand well clear of that monstrous polearm you're lugging then. I think Bendis did say it, right: 'new - first'. So, I'd say we should open the door on the left. I'm in no hurry to get to life's destination, although I already know I'll see my daughter again when I do."

"Does anyone want to examine this here door before I do the totally foolish thing and open it? Maybe is anyone adept at searching for poisons or explosive whatnots?"

OOC: 1k XP puts me over 3k to level 3, I believe. Do we level right away, or when we sleep, or do we train?

Bendis (illegal OOC post)
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 5:27:33 PM

Curses, Bendis is only on 2949 after that 1000XP. Did I miss some XP somewhere? Wanting that level 3!

But doing some checking there's some odd XP disparities. Rosario is on 3374XP, and Cal is just over 3000, but Gigi, Picci and Betheas are way down, nearer 2000. Julien and Zita are still on zero!

Do you have a record of what XP was awarded when Jerry?

Golden Doors [DM Jerry]
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 8:00:35 PM

As the last of our heroes enters the sphere, the demon stops breathing fire, the mouth closes, and all the bubble-wrap circular alcoves in the tube "pop" back in.

As far as the group can tell, no one knows more about the Teucri other than what has been experienced so far in this place.

The air starts to cool and the chill in the air is in sharp contrast with the last few minutes.

The golden doors stand waiting. There is a feeling of anticipation in the air. Golden incribed doors! That means something important is behind. Something worthy of that level of effort! Something wonderful!

-------------------
I believe I posted up there somewhere a month or so ago, all the xp I'd given out to that point. Add that to the last bit, which I also posted, and you can get a total! :)

Good luck finding it.

Scott, we too are going to try 4.0 starting Sat. We tried out the quick start rules that came with the first module last Sat.

As far as levelling up, just get your sheet done and posted and you can begin playing at 3rd level. Note that we are levelling up much faster than we would have been if we had been a Career game. I think you all realize that.

Rosario Sheet
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 8:47:33 PM

OoC Rosario got a hero point and at teh bottom of his sheet I started writing my xp and when they were given. But I did miss one early on. Shortly after Cal showed up alreday second level we were hand xp to get us all to 2nd , but I do not know the precise number. What I have is:
Awards:

Friday May 2nd, 2008 9:00:51 132 xp for completing Test 1. Rosario receives one hero point for being the first to move down the white cobblestone path

Wednesday May 21st, 2008 6:12:41 PM
That's 3 Test Completed. 260xp for Test 2, 500xp for Test 3

Monday June 2nd, 2008 5:55:56 PM--1,000 xp Test 4

Calvierius OOC
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 9:37:44 PM

When I started, I checked everyone else's XP, and all the sheets I could find had people at 1,120 or something like that, so I came in at that XP. (Everyone was the same at that point, although I can't speak for Betheas, since he doesn't link a CS).

If you look right at the top of Test 4 in the archives, you see:

That's 3 Test Completed. Time for xp!

132 for Test 1
260 for Test 2
500 for Test 3

Total of 892xp

Then we got 1,000 xp for test 4, so 1,892 for tests 1-4, out of the total 2,000 needed to go from 2 to 3.

Zita
Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 10:05:12 PM

Zita tries to go over all that they have heard in her own mind and then gives up on it. She has been thinking about a lot of things lately and it is all kind of dancing. "Ok...who wants to go over all that we need to finish out this test?" She knows that someone with the mind for memorization should be able to help out here. "Let us go over that while we have a chance and then make a decision." She does not have the skills to do much at the door so she will leave that to the others, but they had better make a right decision or this could all go bad.

She waits for someone to drop all the cards back on the table and allow them to put their minds to work on the problem. This is actually unusual for her as she usually acts before she thinks. A sign of forced growing up that all of them have had to do.

Gigi ponders the pictures and the doors and the possible meanings and then looks around at the others. I would say that we are still both young and starting our journey so I say we take that door.

Calvierius  d20=14 ;

"Well, let's have a look, then."

With that, Calvierius pushes open the door on the left.

Bendis
Wednesday June 4th, 2008 11:06:28 AM

Bendis involuntarily flinches as the door is opened, keeping well back. "Oh dear" he mumbles," I do hope that's the right door. I mean the left door. I mean, um, well, you know, the door that doesn't kill us all horribly or transform us into day-old infants or something. Hum."

Julien
Wednesday June 4th, 2008 1:08:00 PM

Brushing himself down, he nods as Bendis reiterates what they've learned so far. As for the Teucri, he's feeling a bit nonplussed. Despite his youth, he considers himself well read and able to expound on a variety of subjects , but this...
He weighs up his friends' logic. "I'd agree with the left door, too," he says, biting his lower lip as Calv gives it a try.

Repulsed [DM Jerry]
Wednesday June 4th, 2008 7:48:24 PM

When Calvierius pushes on the left door, it repulses him, the cherubic figure glowing for a second. Knocking him back and prone, he is unhurt.

The door returns to being just a normal golden gilded, magically protected door of immense value and importance. Just a normal one...of those.

Again, there is a feeling of intensity in the air. Of something momentous about to happen.

Zita
Wednesday June 4th, 2008 9:27:40 PM

Zita moves forward as Cal is knocked backwards and checks to see if he is ok. "Not hurt are you?" Once she finds that he is fine she turns back to the door and then nods her head. "Maybe it requires the ring and earring bearer to open the door?" It is just an idea but one worth giving a try...especially if it will allow them to move forward. She glances around to see what the others have to say. Yes, it is a risk but one that she must accept as she cannot have the others protecting her all the time...or she might as well be dead.

Bendis
Thursday June 5th, 2008 9:02:43 AM

"Oh, good point" nods Bendis. "I hadn't thought of that. The ring and earring brought us here, so maybe they're required to open the doors. But maybe Rosario should try, because, um, well, you're the Duke after all. We need to keep you safe. Oh, not that that makes you dispensible, Ros, I duh-didn't mean that, um..."

The dwarf looks flustered, and busies himself ensuring Shafbaffum has suffered no ill effects from the recent traumatic events. He doesn't need to worry; Shaff is safe in his pack pocket, snoring wheezily. Or weaselly, Bendis can't be sure.

He looks around his companions. "You know, if the ring and earring brought us down here, perhaps they can provide guidance on how to proceed. Zita, Ros, surely your predecessors trod this same path before us."

Betheas
Thursday June 5th, 2008 2:40:13 PM

"It appears to me that we chose the wrong door."

Rosario Sheet  d20+1=5 ;
Thursday June 5th, 2008 5:41:45 PM

Rosario purses his lips and then raises an eyebrow towards Bendis. He squares his shoulders, folds his powerful arms and scowls at the smaller man fumbling about with his words. Rosario does not mange to keep the straight thin lipped expression up very well. [Bluff 5] "I see"

Feeling his face crack, he turns from Bendis to apparently have another look at teh doors themselves. "Yes Betheas, perhaps Calvierius choose the wrong door. I am more inclined towards Zita's thought." Rosario then slowly focuses on his earring and reaches his left hand towards the left door

Picci
Thursday June 5th, 2008 5:58:58 PM

Picci blinks, tilting her head as she momentarily becomes convinced that she can invoke more powerful spells than she could before. Then she watches warily as Rosario tests Zita's theory about opening a door.

The Amulet of the Advisor [DM Jerry]
Thursday June 5th, 2008 6:57:35 PM

As Rosario moves towards the door, something clicks and both doors open easily and silently.

Beyond is an impossibility. If more of the same on a grand scale is impossible. A sphere. Grand in size some 150' in diameter.

One the "floor" is an ornate pedestal that rises about three feet. It is made of crystal. A light from the top of the room shines down upon it, accenting it.

Looking up, you see where the light is coming from.

Above the pedestal, upside down, is a large throne! And sitting on the throne is the actual skeleton of a long dead Teucri. The light comes from a gem embedded into the back of the throne!

On the pedestal is an amulet. Simple and made of gold, it begins glowing as the party enters the sphere-like room. (Remember there is gravity on all sides)

Immediately Ziti is aware from the inner pull that the amulet is the third item of the set: the family seal--or...

The Amulet of The Advisor!

Zita
Thursday June 5th, 2008 11:11:30 PM

Zita sucks in a breathe as the two doors open and she steps close enough to see inside. Her eyes rove over the sphere and then move upwards. Her breathe catches as she mutters to herself, though maybe loud enoug for the others to hear. "The Amulet of the Advisor...the third item of the family set." Her right hand moves over to allow the fingers to rub the ring on her left hand.

Glancing to Rosario she nods her head. "It was the two family relics maybe calling to the last?" She glances into the room again and smiles. "To think that the this relic was given to a Teucri." Her mind whirls as she thinks over the possibilities. "Was this one the advisor or one meant to hold it for our family?" So many puzzles lately and so few answers.

Julien
Friday June 6th, 2008 12:03:06 AM

Julien grins broadly at Rosario. "Well, that worked!"

He's been itching to take some serious notes, ever since their arrival at that strange grotto, and now here are more wonders to commit to memory. The way that skeleton on the throne just hangs like that...

As for the amulet, "That's a good question," he says to Zita.

Betheas
Friday June 6th, 2008 1:27:15 AM

"Well Zita, it's more than likely the relics were handed down from the Tucri, not the other way around."

Bendis
Friday June 6th, 2008 5:02:20 AM

Bendis nods vigorously.

"I think Bu-Betheas is likely to be right, Zita. The magic in those items of yours is quite unlike anything I've seen before. Much like this place. The items were clearly created by a person or persons of significant power, and this place... well, just look. I've never seen anything remotely like this. Architecture like this is quite beyond the skills of any race alive today, I'd say. A tremendous find."

He gazes about the spherical chamber, beaming with happiness. This place makes all that danger and near-death worth it. A wholly intact relic of an earlier, more magical age. He couldn't have dreamed of a greater reward.

Somewhere deep inside the timid dwarf something shifts; without really being concious of the change Bendis finally embraces the path of the adventurer thrust upon him by his father. Suddenly he understands the point of it all, and the fortune that can smile upon the brave. He feels charged with a new-found, empowering confidence (Helo-ooo Level 3!).

"So, if the amulet was calling the other items, should we take the amulet? Is it likely to have more secrets to reveal? And if we do take it, and (assuming that skeleton doesn't object), who should carry it? It shouldn't be Ros or Zita, remember what happened when Zita had both the earring and the ring."

Calvierius
Friday June 6th, 2008 9:24:10 AM

Shaking off the stunning effects of the door, Calvierius slowly rises to his feet. As he picks up his Orcish Double Axe, he looks appraisingly at its other end. "Hmm....", he muses, as he twirls it around expertly, "I might just be able to use this end to kill things as well."

Holding up one end of the double axe, Calvierius looks at the rest of the group, gives a ghoulish smile, and says, "This blade I dedicate to Trina. It will cut down all wrongdoers, but especially those who have wronged me." Spinning the axe around to the other end, he continues, "And this blade I dedicate to Lisbet. Her innocence will help me know when to stay my blows, but her cries will tell me when to strike." Holding the axe parallel to the ground, he finishes, "My life, such as it is, will be a testament to theirs."

Shaking his head slowly, he seems to come back to the present. "Now, let's see where we are, shall we? I somehow doubt that I'm the one to take the amulet, since the door did not even deem me worthy. Let's collect the amulet and work on trying to find a way out of this crazy non-space."

----

Yay, level 3. Finally - two-weapon fighting!

Rosario Sheet
Friday June 6th, 2008 11:16:39 AM

Rosario moves into the room, stepping cautious to keep his footing and balance as his gravitational direction shifts. A long low whistle escapes Roy as he seems to almost aimlessly start wandering about. His eyes shift between the throne and the crystal pedstal and back. A sheepish grin appears on his face after a few moments and he calls out "Echo!" and his face lights into a triumphant smile

Eyes still sparkling he looks at the others, "I agree Benids," Here Rosario pauses for just a moment as his tell marking mishevious grin sweeps across his face he continues, " that is some sound and good advise." The glow on his face is almost too much for the young mans countenance to contain. "Wouldn't you agree dear sister?"

Friday June 6th, 2008 6:06:20 PM

Stepping into the new room, Gigi looks upon the enthroned skeleton with a very clinical eye, noting the size difference and any skeletal differences that are obvious from those he had studied before.

"I expect that the family relics were created by the teucri and then gifted to our family for some reason. I also expect that us having all three of them is likely to draw some unwanted attention to us. Three is often a very magical and mystical number, so expect the unexpected should the three items be united."

Turning to look at Zita and Ros, Gigi continues.

"Well Cousins, I expect that the amulet is just as likely to be as picky about who wears it as your two pieces were and are, and I think that perhaps nether of you should touch it, though it may need Zita's touch to acivate it in order to aid her with her/its choice."

Questions [DM Jerry]
Friday June 6th, 2008 7:35:15 PM

The moment is heavy in the air. Cemented into the memories of those experiencing it now.

So many questions. So many.

And some hopefully about to be answered!

However, caution takes its place int he moment. Hard work, sweat, blood and effort was required to get here to this moment in time. Our heroes must be careful. They know that. It shows in their hesitation. Even the ever-curious Calvierius is careful here.

This is the place and experience usually saved for the mighty and experienced. So one of those questions is why grandma and momma? Why the Montididiers? Why us?

Just seeing the room helps explain why the assassins were so persistent in trying wipe out all the Montdidiers. That thought brings back fresh pains of grief and longing.

Why? Why kill over these things? Why this place? Why the Teucri? Why the three items? Why three?

Why?

Zita
Friday June 6th, 2008 8:17:51 PM

Zita shakes her head. "They were most likely passed to our line by the Teucri, but did he reclaim this one or was he the holder of it for the family?" Her question is still out there and may not be answered anytimes soon. "Was he the advisor to my ancestors as the holder of the amulet or was he the keeper of it till the family had need of it again?" It would be interesting to find out if in her family history they had ties that close to the Teucri and one of thier race may have been an advisor as well.

Her face takes on that your an idiot look as she glances to Rosario. "No dear brother...I love having debilitating headaches. They are so much fun and leave you unable to do much of anything." In a much quieter tone so that noone can hear. "Not that I have much to worry about...you all are treating me like a china doll anyways." Not bothering to wait for anyone else she steps forward, fighting the strange effects of this room to come before the skeleton on the throne.

Feeling a little red in the face as this is something that she would not have normally been up for. She cuts a deep bow to the skeleton and intones in as confident a voice as possible. "I am Zita Montididier led here by my Mother and Grandmother through the ring I now hold and the earring held by my brother. We came seeking the amulet which you now hold for the survival of my family." Glancing to the skeleton with a little knot of worry in her belly she glances to the others. "If it is your will...may we have it?" She holds out her hands to the skeleton, though some of this seems stupid even to her...but it also seems the proper thing to do as well.

She waits to see if there is somekind of reply or if she is just making an idiot of herself. Still, the Teucri were a great race and deserving of respect. The fact that they had a hand in her family as well, gave her pause to honor them as well.

Betheas
Saturday June 7th, 2008 9:05:44 PM

Betheas notes Cal's second reference to one or more lost females in his life. The elf duely notes this new found aspect of the strange adventurer.

He walks along side Zita has she makes her way forward, lending what support he may if things go wrong. Inside, he is absolutely terrified of the skeleton. This was no graveyard variety undead, the kind city guard had the occassion to police. This was obviously something of great power.

Bendis
Sunday June 8th, 2008 9:30:46 AM

Bendis follows Zita, standing at her side as she speaks to the skeleton. He bows his head respectfuly.

He watches for any sign of movement or response, his fingers twising his beard nervously.

Calvierius
Monday June 9th, 2008 11:12:01 AM

"I've little experience with the dead, beyond burial when appropriate. I do not know if yon skeleton will stand and object to the taking of the amulet, but somehow I doubt it. We could never have come here if it weren't for the guidance of your other ancestor items, so we're clearly meant to take this. At least one of us is."

Calvierius holds his axe at the ready.

"If, however, he does object, do not fear. We shall strike him down."

----

Ready an action to cast Enlarge Person on himself, if the skeleton does anything threatening.

Rosario Sheet
Monday June 9th, 2008 11:49:01 AM

Rosario shakes his head a bit, still quite amused with himself even though it seemed no one else picked up on his joke. Or attempted humor at least. Happened alot and he was quite used to it. He chuckles as Bendis takes up the exact position he was thinking of for the dwarf to stand at. Rosario himself moves to stand about 5' behind Zita. personally he thought the bowing and talking to a skeleton a bit absurd, but religion and the undead were not a strong suit by any stretch of the imagination.

moving forward a bit GiGi takes a closer look at the skeleton to try and see if it is embued with any negative life force and hence a member of the undead.

"If it is your will...may we have it?" [DM Jerry]
Monday June 9th, 2008 7:39:00 PM

The skeleton remains dead and unresponsive.

However, when Rosario moves forward to stand near Zita, something triggers!

Both the ducal ring, the Earring of the Protector, and this new amulet on the pedestal starts to glow!

The glowing causes a reaction with the walls of the sphere. They begin to start glowing as well.

Red, then green, then yellow, then blue.

Beautiful!

Zita
Monday June 9th, 2008 8:25:53 PM

Zita is taken back by the sudden eruption of lights and covers her eyes though it is too late. The sudden brilliance is enough to set spots in her eyes and daze her for a second or two. "That was unexpected." She does her best to clear the spots and return her vision to normal so that she can help out the others. "So...do we just try and take it?" She still is not too sure about just trying to take the amulet, but maybe all they needed was the presence of the two ducal items to pass this part of the test.

She glances to Rosario who holds the earring and nods her head. "Together?" If he agrees she will reach forward so that they both take hold of the amulet at the same time.

Julien
Monday June 9th, 2008 11:44:35 PM

"A-ha!" Julien utters aloud as the items start to glow, the effect repeating along the walls. "Careful," he adds. "It might be that another has to pick it up - but who? I'm sure it isn't me. I'm not a relative."

Picci
Tuesday June 10th, 2008 1:38:13 AM

(OOC: sorry about the late posting.)

Picci frowns as she thinks on what's happened in this amazing chamber so far.

"Julien's words have much wisdom." she agrees. "You already know what it was like to have both the ring and the earring at the same time, Zita--it only stands to reason that either you or Rosario attempting to get the amulet might touch off a similar experience for one or both of you. I think a third person getting the amulet in the presence of the ring and the earring may be enough to keep that from happening. Allow me, if you will? Most of my spells have been used up for the day..." Picci, too, puts out a hand towards the amulet.

Bendis
Tuesday June 10th, 2008 9:48:39 AM

"Ooohh!" breathes Bendis as the walls begin to change colour. "Wonderful!"

He nods at Julien's comments. "Yes, almost certainly a bad idea for Rosario or Zita to wear the amulet. When Zita picked up the ring at the same time as wearing the earring she was overwhelmed by the combined effects of the items. The Advisor should be someone else without duh-doubt."

He watches as as Picci reaches out, and feels a little pang; could that be jealousy? He chides himself. He for one had not missed Rosario's smiled comments, but had been too timid, or perhaps too humble to take the amulet himself without being expressly asked.

Betheas
Tuesday June 10th, 2008 1:24:27 PM

Unlike the others, the elf is more alarmed by the changing lights; crouching in a defensive position. His eyes are wild and they twirl all about the room, until Picci reaches for the amulet.

Uh, was that a good idea?

Calvierius
Tuesday June 10th, 2008 2:28:56 PM

"It was probably a good idea. I mean, there isn't exactly any other way out of this room. We could go back outside and try to climb up or down the cliffs, but remember that the elevator is broken. The only way out is through, as they say."

Rosario Sheet
Tuesday June 10th, 2008 3:08:12 PM

Rosario puts his hand on Zita's and Picci's, "No Offense Picci, but I am thinking that whomever takes this amulet will be THE Advisor and thus far it has not seemed to be a very maliable choice." Then mostly to Zita, though others could easily overhear, "And if I were forced to be choosing an advisor, I would look outside the family. Less baggage."

Calvierius
Tuesday June 10th, 2008 5:44:16 PM

Grimacing, Calvierius looks at Rosario, Picci, and Zita.

"Someone better grab that thing. You've got a few minutes before I do. I don't want to be waiting here when yon Demon face turns around and blasts us, or we run out of air, or the gravity kicks back in and we find out we're looking down a huge pit. No, let's grab this thing and go."

Zita
Tuesday June 10th, 2008 10:23:37 PM

Zita stays her hand and glances to Rosario. "That might have been because I not only wore the earring but then the ring as well. To hold they item for a meer few moments before putting it away should not be a problem." She glances to the amulet and sighs, things were never easy. "It could very well be that whoever takes it up will be the new Advisor even if they do not want the position...but if one of use two take it we can pass it to one that is deserving. Remember that I was able to pass the earring to you though it had been a part of me for a little while." Her thoughts turn to the next Advisor and she could follow Rosario's caution about picking someone outside the family...but they would need to be very careful. It seemed that their family had more than a few enemies.

"Let us just take it and stash it away in one of the packs till we find someone that is deserving of being our advisor...but we might want to hurry. We do not even know if anyone has followed us into this place." She waits though to see what is thought, though she is close to doing what Cal has talked about. In fact if he makes a move to take the amulet she will take it first and stash it in a belt pouch.

Julien
Wednesday June 11th, 2008 1:53:19 AM

While Zita and Rosario decide the fate of the amulet, Julien has a look about him, then tries to clear his mind of all the coloured lights. This was all very well, but it didn't put aside the fact that they were on the run and had nowhere to go, neither had they much of a clue as to who their friends and foes were.

After all this fancy hurdle-jumping, they were back to living on their wits, their priorities pared down to food, clothing and shelter.

He shrugs. Probably best not to dwell on it. Take one step at a time. His own future, planned out, determined as an arrow, was utterly blown. So, now what?

Maybe all three pieces, the artifacts, would give them a clue.

Bendis (2nd illegal post)
Wednesday June 11th, 2008 2:35:38 AM

"Um, nuh-no Zita, I don't think that's the case. Before you merely touched the ring whilst wearing the earring, and you were knocked unconcious by the combined effect of two artifacts. I ruh-really don't think you should touch it, sorry."

He glances around at his companions, and gathers his courage. He knows what he is about to say is a momentous decision, one that may effect him for the rest of his life. But somehow it feels right.

"You know, if no-one objects I'd be huh-happy to be your Advisor, Zita. Do I have your permission to take the amulet?"

And the dwarf also reaches for the artifact, his eyes on Zita, waiting for her approval.

Reaching... [DM Jerry]
Wednesday June 11th, 2008 3:31:19 PM

Zita gets a feeling from the ring that she is safe in this place. The ring is home so she is home. Then another thought comes. Not a voice, but just a thought seemingly aided by her ring.

Choose your spiritual advisor. And one word keeps echoing in her being...

spiritual.....

spiritual.....

spiritual.....

Meanwhile, several of the heroes are reaching for the item all awaiting Zita's permission to take the risk on her behalf. Such loyalty! Or is it greed...

Rosario Sheet
Wednesday June 11th, 2008 4:12:56 PM

Rosario's brow furrows at Calvierius's comments. "No oath holds you, you can depart whenever you wish." he is not accusing or condensending, but simply talking to him. he then looks to Betheas as Zita mentions the possibility of being followed. Though he found it horribly unlikely anyone could have followed them beyond the tests they passed soley because of Picci's ability to understand the writing without making a sound. It was a prudent move to keep an eye on the only door. That and they should find out sooner rather than later if exiting this place would set off the fire from the demon.

"Betheas, take Calvierius and backtrack to the grotto. See if any company is coming our way. Fast and as quiet as you can and get back here." Rosario immediately returns his attention to the Amulet and the pause written on his sisters face, "It's the ring isn't it? What are you hearing?"

Zita
Wednesday June 11th, 2008 5:09:24 PM

Zita glances to Rosario. "Delay that order...we have a pressing matter here...right now." She turns ever so slowly and looks to those that are her companions. Her eyes fall upon Rosario last as he holds the earring. "It appears we have little choice...the advisor must be chosen now." Glancing back to the group as a whole she shakes her head. "I believe that not just any person will do...I was told to pick my spiritual advisor." As her eyes come to settle on Rosario again she nods her head. "I believe that a cleric would be the best suited for this particular artifact...so as to keep our feet on the right path." She waits to see if Rosario had heard anything himself from the earring that he might add...also, she would like to get his opinion.

....Secrets [DM Jerry]

"Keeper of secrets. Zita must choose her Keeper of Secrets Advisor!

Rosario Sheet

Keeper of Secrets, Spiritual Advisor? Sounds like a confessor. What in the gods... the Thought trails off in Rosario's head and his brows furrow. Gonna stick like that one day young man his Mamma's voice rang clearly in his memory. He nods at Zita and touches his earring to confirm that somethingis happeneing and holds a 'one minute' finger up.

More to give himself time to think than to actually hear anything. Keeper of Secrets Advisor. The secrets of Wine Making maybe? This whole secret place had been a step soley based on those great secrets. Rosario leans into his sisters ear. "It says Keeper of Secrets. My gut says those secrets to be our family connection to winemaking." He stands straight again and says louder, "It was that ancient skill that allowed us to get here in the first place." finishing his reasoning for her.

Calvierius
Thursday June 12th, 2008 1:01:37 PM

"Backtrack to the grotto? What, are you trying to find out if that's a viable way out, or if we'll get toasted along the way? No thank you, Rosario. I have far too much to do with this life to throw it away fruitlessly. My wife and daughter would not be so welcoming in the next life if I died because you were trying to get me out of your hair. As for the rest, I told you to hurry. We can decide who wears this thing later, for now, let's make haste. Together." He emphasizes the last word.

With that, Calvierius makes a grab for the amulet. Assuming nothing and nobody stops him, he takes it, but does not put it on, but rather puts it in a pouch.

[Using Dodge Feat directed at Calvierius. Total AC now AC 19.]

Then elf then tumbles back out of Calvierius' reach.

[Move action - Tumble skill DC 15 = base tumble 8 + 3 = 11. FAILED CHECK. Mobility Feat + 4 dodge bonus to attacks of opportunity. The elf now stands 12 feet away from Calvierius.]

[Calvierius gets attack of opportunity vs AC 23.]

A distance away, Betheas holds his glaive, bouncing slowly in front of him. He is obviously enraged, all his elven features peeled into a sharp primal snarl.

[If Calvierius approaches within a 10 foot range of where Betheas now stands, Betheas gets an attack of opportunity. Attack roll 8 plus base + 6 = hits AC 14 for 4 points of damage.]

OOC - You don't have to tumble away from Calvierius. Either you attacked from 10' out with the glaive, or you didn't, as you can't attack people you're adjacent to with a glaive. If you attacked from 10' out, Calv doesn't have reach. If you were adjacent, you didn't attack.

OOC - also, I need to know whether or not Calvierius managed to grab the amulet before Betheas took a swing at him. It's probably an initiative order thing, since we got dropped into combat kind of unexpectedly. Sorry for the multi-post, I'll wait until after Jerry posts to react to Betheas.

Zita
Thursday June 12th, 2008 4:36:42 PM

Zita nods her head and then looks to the rest of her family. "So...if this must be a spiritual advisor I will need a cleric or holy person...but it seems that I might also need someone that either knows about our winemaking process or is willing to learn it." Her face turns to regard Rosario and nods her head. She then turns to Picci and Gigi with a hint of fear in her eyes. "Do either of you fit the full qualifications?" If neither one of them can fit both qualities that are needed she smiles and nods her head.

Looking back to Rosario again she once again nods her head. "So, which of you would like to devote your life to learning about winemaking and our secrets?" She waits for an answer from either or both of them. Maybe advice from Rosario as well as she is really new to this and he should know that she values his opinion.

The sudden motion that goes on around her is none of her concern and she is in the way of Cal getting to the amulet. So he would need to move to get around her anyways and with Rosario so near her, that would most likely mean that he needs to get around him as well.

Picci  (second post)

Picci smiles, shaking her head.

"I don't know the details about wine-making, Your Grace," she admits readily. "I am but a humble cook and healer. I do believe that GiGi is your man, then."

However, if it turns out to be that GiGi is no more or less qualified than Picci, the petite girl is definitely willing to learn new skills if her duke calls upon her to do so.

Turning to his duke he nods again and then answers.

"Your grace, I do have knowledge of the crafts of wine making and running a winery, though it is rudimentary as my profeesion before my injuries and joining the priesthood were the making of bottles and barrels for the family wines. If your grace so wishes, I will serve you in the capacity you wish."

Combat Round 1 [DM Jerry]
Thursday June 12th, 2008 8:34:59 PM

Calvierius reaches forward to grab the amulet. When he hits the spotlighted area, white lightning seemingly made of light instead of electricity hits him hard bouncing him back hard from the pedestal!

[Reflex Save of 19 for half damage from being shot across the room, a Fortitude Save of 19 to avoid ability damage, and a Will save of 19 vs. Fear, Calvierius.]

Betheas makes ready to attack, but mid-motion, Calvierius is blown back out of his reach and his glaive proceeds downwards.

[Betheas: Reflex Save of 15 to be able to stop the motion of your glaive before it too penetrates the light around the pedestal. If you fail, I need the three saves above made.]

Zita, glancing up for a sec, sees several of the party that have hands outstretched for the amulet. All had gone around to other sides of the pedestal.

--------------

In player vs. player combat, we have to go in a certain order. Betheas initiated the combat so Calvierius will be first to act. So I need Betheas to wait for Calvierius' post first please. Betheas, you do not need to wait for me to post, just Calvierius.

Damaged, and frightened, Calvierius bounces backwards away from the pedestal.

Although he's hurt, he didn't miss the swing that Betheas took at him.

"With my back to you, you swing at me? You dare strike at me in anger, Elf? I will show you anger!" With that, he utters a single arcane syllable, and begins to grow. Rapidly doubling in size, he holds his axe at the ready and shouts, "Do that again, little man!"

Friday June 13th, 2008 7:42:16 AM

Unfortunately Bendis is quite daft enough to put himself in harm's way. He positions himself between Cal and Betheas, with his hands raised, so that they can't strike one another without hitting the bespectacled dwarf.

"Have you gone mad? Suh-stop fighting! We have enough enemies out there without turning on one another! This is Zita's decision, so let's leave it to her. Everybody please just calm down."

"STOP THIS NONSENSE, NOW!" "ARE YOU BOTH INSANE?" "For Domi's sake, calm down and put your weapons at rest. What has gotten into you two?"

Rosario Sheet
Friday June 13th, 2008 9:48:35 AM

Calvierius is in the midst of telling Rosario to effectively go fly a kite on the backtracking commnd issued by him when he cuts off the man. "Hurry to what point? The only way out of this room is the direction you are refusing to travel." His tone is calm but he does seem perplexed on the man's need to hurry. Then all the Shadow Realms breaks loose.

Calvierius and Betheas both start to move. One for the amulet and the other with his weapon. It seems to be in slow motion for the young man. His mind registering the glaive coming for his sister, the hand for the amulet. Traitor of his family and opportunist thief, coming together in the final moments and now right here in front of his very eyes his sister would die. Part of his mind hoped he would quickly follow. His hand was moving as well, his fathers sword now clearing the scabbard.

Rosario's mind never really catches up completely. There is a great deal of shouting from nearly everyone and something happened when Calvierius moved to the amulet that had nothing to do with anyone else's actions. His mind registers quite a bit, processes some and focuses on two. His sister's safety and the constant usage of 'your grace' By Pantheon they might as well just paint a bullseye on Zita. Rosario steps close into his sister, a human shield between her and the rest of the party. His weapon is drawn and levelled at the group at large. His jaw is set and eyes blaze, Rosario is all business and that business is hand to hand combat.

[Betheas fails all saves. I guess the Woldian gods were mad at me too. Should we wait to see what the failed saves causes.]

Once Betheas regains himself, he will reposition between the amulet and Calvierius. Relieved that the amulet was not taken by Calvierius, the elf resigns himself to take whatever blows Calvierius can dish.

He sputters between pained breathes, "there is no anger. Only protecting the amulet from theivery. Who are you and why are you here?"

Zita
Friday June 13th, 2008 9:25:51 PM

Shaking her head at the actions of those she thought to be more grownup than this, she turns her attention to those that have spoken to her. As they move away she moves slightly forward to lay a hand upon GiGi's shoulder. "Take the amulet with my blessing...but remember that you will need to further your study of the winemaking of the family." Her hand squeezes ever so slightly to reinforce the statement and then she lets go.

Whirling to turn on those that have started the fight and giving Rosario a thank you nod, she glares them down for a few seconds. "Here we are in a situation that could get us all killed and we are acting like children. We should all be ashamed of ourselves and thank the gods that they do not smack us around right now." She can just see what would have happened if her mother would have been here and seen this display.

Her speech might fall on some deaf ears if they are running away and she shakes her head as she glances to Rosario. "Send a couple after them and make sure they do not kill each other or get hurt any further." Glancing to GiGi she nods again to the amulet and then moves over to lay a hand upon Pici's shoulder, giving it a light squeeze. "I am sorry if you wanted this burden...but I still plan to count on your level head." Waiting for the amulet to be seized by GiGi she makes another announcement. "From now on, noone is to call me by anything other than my name...Zita. Breaking this rule will get you in my bad graces and I need all my friends right now." Her eyes will drill into all those that are present.

Nevous after seeing what just happened,he reaches his hand forward toward the amulet and everyone can see how it is shaking. I'm more than happy to let GiGi shoulder this burden--that way I can help him from time to time." Rosario's logic in having her follow the fleeing members of their group causes her to bob her dark head in his direction.

"Gotcha!" she agrees and takes off after Cal and Betheas, calling as she does so:

Sunday June 15th, 2008 12:22:46 PM

Back near the entrance doors, Betheas and Calvierius both do not move after landing. Both are still breathing hard, but unmoving.

After a few seconds, the light has returned to normal strength. On the opposite side of the room from the pedestal, which is at the bottom, the throne and its occupant remain silent and unmoving as well. The light from the gem at the top of the throne still shines down across the room from top to bottom illuminating the pedestal and amulet.

Then Zita sets Gigi's fate by choosing him to be The Advisor. Gigi accepts with humility and slowly begins reaching for the amulet.

Steady of hand, Gigi slips through the light barrier without harm! In a few seconds, his hand touches the amulet and he has it!

Then he is somewhere else in another time joining in something that is not of his own experience...

"PAIN! FRUSTRATION! APPROACHING DEATH! NO NOT YET! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ELIZABETTA! ABEULITA TOO! NO! I HAVE TO TELL! CURSE IT ALL! WHY DID WE SET THE RINGS TO SUICIDE IF TWO OF THE OTHERS PERISHED! THIS IS TOO IMPORTANT! NOW NO ONE WILL KNOW!

"NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!"

"THE WOLD MAY BE DOOMED!"

Then Gigi is back in his own experience, a sharp stabbing headache. Somehow he has put on the amulet.

It speaks to him.

"You are worthy. I accept you."

Saw that many had posted so I decided to go ahead and get an extra one in so you could have your 5 min. fix tomorrow on Mon. Apologies to Betheas for moving on.

Sunday June 15th, 2008 10:28:21 PM

Jerry - I published my lvl 3 character sheet to our Woldipedia game site last week. You should have complete access to it. Regardless - I think your decision to put me down was a wise one.

Julien
Monday June 16th, 2008 12:27:52 AM

"Two down, one of them is bleeding!" yells out Julien. Seeing Picci heading over, he points toward Calv, then goes to check on Betheas. He is not a healer, but he can help bind wounds if needs be.

Picci  2d8+3=16 ;
Monday June 16th, 2008 2:50:54 AM

Picci drops down on one knee, her lips moving as she earnestly appeals to the good Gods of the Wold. The healing energy of divine faith shimmers around the prone body of Cal, the oozing wounds miraculously closing up. (OOC: Picci is forgoing her Silence spell in order to spontaneously cast Cure Moderate Wounds instead. She heals up 16hp on Calvierius.)

"GiGi--can you do anything for Betheas?" she asks, her obsidian gaze going over to the unconscious elf.

Still a bit stunned and shaken Gig scrambles at Picci's call and moves quickly to Betheas and stabalizes him quickly with his heal skill DC26. Then looking over him decides that he had best use his more powerful healing and casts a cure moderate wounds sending positive energy coursing through Betheas' body (15 points healed).

Seeing him on the way to recovery, Gigi stands back up and walks back over to Zita and Rosario and tells them about what was being said when he was getting the amulet.

Bendis
Monday June 16th, 2008 8:07:14 AM

Bendis watches the comotion with concern, but is quickly reassured as GiGi and Picci spring into action. Given the number of people intent on killing them these days it is very fortunate they have two such capable healers with the group.

When GiGi returns and explains what happened with the amulet, Bendis tugs at his beard. "Thuh-the Wold may be doomed? Oh, that's never good." he glances nervously between his companions.

"Suh-so, what next? I'd hoped for more answers with the aquisition of the third ducal item, but it seems we just have more questions. Gigi, can you get any more out of it? Can you three somehow combine the items to get at more answers, do you think? Hold huh-hands or something, and make the items work together? What is it that the Amulet needs to tell us? It sounds dreadfully important."

Calvierius 12/28 HP
Monday June 16th, 2008 11:48:47 AM

Blinking.

Light. Comfort. Home. Family.

"Not yet, my darling."

"Not yet, daddy."

Cold, so cold. The heat, the light of the world, fading.

Eyes opened. Picci's face. Not Lisbet, not Trina. Still alive.

Calvierius opened his mouth.

"What happened?"

Pop! [DM Jerry]
Monday June 16th, 2008 6:45:21 PM

Our two unconscious heroes are saved and conscious again. Gigi has the amulet. All is well in the world.

Until...

A illusion shines out of the amulet for all to see. It is Grandmother!

""Beware, if you are seeing this, then your mother and I are most likely dead. I hope we are, because if we are not, then we are now possessed by a most evil creature. You have proven resourceful by reaching this point as well as being of the family. That means you are now one of the Three Secret Bearers of an awful truth. When rested, touch the three items together. It is a draining experience so be sure that you are rested and of perfect health. Also be sure that you have plenty of time as this will......POP!!!"

The amulet tears itself away from Gigi's neck returning instantly to the pedestal and the light!!!

There is a breath and a scraping noise. Then the tell-tale sound of the Demon's mouth firing!

Calvierius must have been prescient, because someone is definitely coming!

Picci
Monday June 16th, 2008 10:17:24 PM

"What do we have left for magic?" Picci asks in a low but fierce tone. "I can petition the gods for luck, a cloak of fog, protection from evil, endurance and extra vitality...and I can tell if there's magic about. The luck, protection, endurance and vitality can only effect one person at a time--although I can give two different people that bit of luck..."

(OOC: in game terms, Picci still may cast Guidance, Obscuring Mist, Protection from Evil, Bear's Endurance and Aid--as well as being able to cast Detect Magic; she may cast Guidance twice.)

Zita
Monday June 16th, 2008 10:53:24 PM

Zita is glad to see the others are fast to respond and she breathes a sigh of relief. They will work well together if some do not kill each other first. As she smiles she turns to listen to GiGi on his return. "Like we need more pressure." Her face pinches as she feels an even greater weight settle upon all of them. Glancing to the others she wonders if it would be kinder to let them choose their own way. It is sure that Rosario and her have to travel this path...and now GiGi, thanks to her own intervention.

As the image starts she feels the beginnings of tears and fights them back to listen. She was no longer the petulent child that she once was. She has responibilities to not only herself but all of them. Then there is the pop and the amulet forcibly returning itself to the skeleton and she twirls. The refiring of the demon head sets her into this action, the rapier already finding its way into her hand. "Form up and force them to come through us like a gauntlet." One of her earliest memories is of running a gauntlet of padded stick wielders with the rest of the trainees at her home. Good memories if not ones that make you feel the sore bruises again, she smiles though.

Glancing around the room she shakes her head. "How could we set for a line of archery to maybe soften them up?" She is only guessing that it is more than one that comes towards them.

Bendis
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 3:57:58 AM

"I-I'm for the back line" mumbles Bendis, scurrying into position.

"As long as whatever's coming can think, I should be able to cause them problems. I've been working on a new spell for some time, and do you know, I think I may finally have figured it out. Puh-perhaps not the best time to test it though. Oh gracious, how did they find us? Who is it that's cuh-coming? Why is this happening to us?"

Rosario Sheet
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 10:40:45 AM

Rosario thinks a bit on the Amulet mesage that Picci relates and decides he most definately does not like the implications. "But" he muses aloud, "it does mena the Terruci are not some distant people but were here all along."

With Betheas and Calversius waking, Rosario glances over. In answer to Calversius he states simply with a matter of fact tone, "You were an idiot."

With the appearence to Nonna, Rosario instictively gives a respectable bow to her. The words sink through and his face is a bit more grim upon looking up. The Demon face flies all other thought from his head. Almost as if the gods knew that the young man needed to vent some aggression, it was being supplied.

Rosario moves behind the demon face to use it as cover and to be able to see down the hall. His longbow is out and he scanning for a target that he assumes will show itself when the flames die down.

Julien
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 11:17:15 AM

"I've got Burning Hands left, fog and a vampire-like touch if I can get close enough," says Julien, adding to the discussion."Doesn't look like we're going to get much chance of getting rested, does it."

Betheas
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 5:56:22 PM

The elf, lying flat on his back, is looking up (across the room - who knows). He blinks once, twice and reaches toward his forehead. "Ohhh, my head hurts." He tries to think back to a point where he loses consciousness. Cal was taking the amulet, he was reacting.... and bammmmm! That's all he can remember.

The voices of his comrads were full of concern - fear. This pulls the elf out of his stupor, and he sits up.

"What is going on?" Betheas looks left, then right... trying to figure out were he last dropped his weapon. While looking about, he sees Cal... apparently unharmed. At this point the elf questions if the last few images he witnessed before blacking out... were even real.

Something's Coming [DM Jerry]
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 7:11:14 PM

The demon mouth stops. A voice in the distance says, "Woah! What now! Move!"

Then when the demon's mouth starts to breathe a second time. "Dive for it!"

Someone doesn't make it a there is a horrible scream.

"AAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIEEEEE!"

Seems there is definitely more then one coming....if they survived the fire.

Meanwhile our party begins to form up and prepare.

Looking around for cover, there are only two possibilities: behind the pedestal and behind the throne. Both hold the danger of the light to any that touch it.

Also, one can get all around [360 degrees] around the entrance doors, which are open.

GiGiHp 23/23, AC 17
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 7:46:15 PM

stepping forward a bit to be on the front line of defense Gigi tries to put out of his mind the why of the necklace leaving him and returning to the skeleton, but draws his great sword, move action and then brings forth a glowing weapon of force into being. Spiritual weapon

Zita
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 8:22:39 PM

Zita moves to the side to put her into a nice place to lend a hand when the fighting happens. The cry of pain or maybe death that comes from the tunnel sends a shiver down her spine but also a small hard smile. "The demon head is going to give us assistance at least for awhile." As she glances to anyone that has drawn a bow she nods her head with some satisfaction. "Pick your shots well and holds spells that maybe useful once we have enemies in here...let the archers and demon head do some of the work for us." She just hopes that enough of them listen to her and see the wisdom in her thoughts.

She glances to Rosario and nods her head, then brings her rapier up in a salute. "Got to stand on my own two feet sometime and now seems to be as good as any." She knows that the others feel they need to protect her, which is ok...but what some have been doing is nearer to coddling.

Calvierius 12/28 HP  d100=28 ;
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 10:44:00 PM

With a feeling of deja vu, Calvierius utters an arcane syllable. His armor did not interfere with the gestures he made, and so he grew to nearly twice his original height.

Placing his axe across his back, he drew his bow and prepared an arrow, moving away from the door, but not toward the light. The last few minutes were confused and hectic, but here was clarity. Here was an enemy.

"We'll sort out who is Duke of whom in a moment, um, Your Grace. But perhaps it would be for the best if you could stand away from the doors and out of the lines of fire. If it comes to hand-to-hand fighting, I'll ... we'll chop them apart."

Picci  d8+3=8 ;
Tuesday June 17th, 2008 10:44:12 PM

Picci lifts the hand not holding her heavy mace and sweeps it in a gesture of benediction--a gesture aimed at Zita, who suddenly feels a bit more courageous and full of life.

OOC: Picci has cast Aid upon Zita, bestowing a +1 bonus on Zita's saves versus Fear as well as an extra 8 hit points to the young duke.

Rosario Sheet  d20+1=5 ;
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 8:13:30 AM

Rosario smirks and his eyes flash a smile to his sister, "Now is certainly NOT as good a time as any. I can easily think of plenty of other times Z." Rosario resumes his focus and then calls out down the passage. "You are trespassing on private land! My men are authorized to apply deadly force against any unknown intruder!"

To his sister standing near he offers, "We can't just open up on anything, however unlikely it is. They could be the good guys."

Rosario is standing 5 paces back and to the right of the demon head breathing fire down the passage. Spot 5

Bendis
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 9:42:07 AM

"Fellows, I'm going to tuh-try and charm the first person I see. If I call out that he's a friend, don't attack, OK? It will break the spell. Now then, where was that spell, hang on..."

He flips through his spellbook, searching for the right page.

READIED ACTION: Charm Person at the first of the newcomers to move into view, Will DC 16. If the spell works he will point at the target and call out to his companions at once "Don't fight him! He's a friend!" If it fails he will mutter "Biscuits and botheration! Now what did I do wrong? Did I miss the "Homunahomunahomuna" in the middle there?"

Betheas
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 1:57:18 PM

Scrambling on hands and knees at first, the elf goes after his glaive. Once in hand, he'll take up a position around the entrance.

Responding to Rosario, "that would be ironic... wouldn't it?"

Rosario Sheet
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 3:31:55 PM

"I think so Betheas, that word always confused me. But it certainly would be par for the course if we just opened up on them." he says with a disgusted grin

Picci
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 4:48:00 PM

Picci turns to Rosario and speaks the fluid tongue of divine invocation as she gestures towards the Ducal Protector.

Picci has just cast Protection from Evil on Rosario. He gets +2 AC and a +2 Resistance bonus on his Saving Throws versus any evil attack on him.

Amazingly Familiar! [DM Jerry]
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 7:36:25 PM

The demon stops breathing after a few more efforts. There are no more screams.

Then a voice. Familiar. Amazingly familiar!

"No..::whoo:: ::oooff:: No. It is I. Oh, Fabersham. Don't fry me...just had enough of that thank you!"

Then a pause.

"Permission to proceed?"

"Holy Lem, what a workout. I'm getting too old for this!"

------------

I really like how having Zita to protect changes the dynamics of this group.

Julien
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 7:53:26 PM

"Well, that sounded impressive," Julien grins at Rosario. "I hope we can deliver."

His forehead creases at the approaching voice. "A trick?" he whispers to the others.

Picci
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 9:21:41 PM

"Anything is possible." the petite acolyte answers Julien's query in a low voice. "Either a trick...or Mister Fabersham has been able to get high-level cleric services in a hurry. Since he was killed on the premises of one of the ex-Platinum Dragons...as well as being their former senschal...it makes sense that it truly IS Mister Fabersham. He possesses the intelligence and the resources to be able to penetrate this site's defenses, too."

Zita
Wednesday June 18th, 2008 11:38:24 PM

Zita snorts at her brother and then lets out a long sigh. "And if you keep coddling me too much, I may just have to stab myself once in awhile." Here eyes flash with both laughter and a little bit of anger. "Lets put it this way...let me fight as well and protect my back...but for the love of Domi stop trying to get me to stand back while you guys do everything for me." She has not noticed that her voice has been slightly getting higher with her agitation.

Zita feels magic settle over her but the kind that would benefit her as she sees the gesture from Picci. She nods her head. "Thank you." She then turns her attention back to the battle that seems to be unfolding before them. Then the demon head stops shooting and a voice calls out for them to hold.

Looking to Rosario and then to the rest she shrugs her own shoulders. "Or maybe he was not actually killed and putting on one fine show. To work for the Platinum Dragons he would have to be highly cunning and resourceful." It all wars within her as she wants to take this as a sign of the gods looking favorably upon them, but that little voice tells her to be very careful. Usually the voice wins out when she wants to listen to it. "If we are wrong and this is an enemy, we might just be aiding him in killing us. Depending on how good he is, we might not have the numbers to deal with him." Maybe they should at least take the chance? She looks to Rosario and then to GiGi, as he was to be a advisor. "Well looks like we have a choice that may affect us all...thoughts?" She glances to the others in the room as she says this last word as they should have a voice...or at least she thinks so.

[Just remember that Zita will rebel against authority and people that try to make her be the proper young lady. She considers these type of actions to be the same as her mother trying to get her to learn dance and embroidery. Plus it makes for interesting RP. :)]

Picci
Thursday June 19th, 2008 2:50:16 AM

"There's an old Woldian saying that goes..." the jet-tressed young postulate says, now murmuring a benediction aimed at Betheas, "...hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. If the worst happens, at least you won't be totally off-guard. If the best happens, you'll be pleasantly surprised."

OOC: Picci casts Guidance on Betheas, who now gets a one-shot +1 to a single roll, be it combat, save or skill check.

GiGiHp 23/23, AC 17
Thursday June 19th, 2008 7:08:56 AM

Gigi looks around as Fabersham's voice is heard and then again as Zita says her piece. When asked for his thoughts, Gigi ponders for a moment and then says. "If it is fabersham, he would know the name of the one that was left behind at Mistress Dahlia's." It's not fool proof but.....

Bendis
Thursday June 19th, 2008 7:22:26 AM

Bendis is astonished when the voice down the passageway claims to be Fabersham. It certainly sounds like their tutor.

His first instinct is to rush forward, enthusiastically greeting the fellow. But the discussion his friends are having reminds him just how dangerous their situation is. Caution must be their watchword.

He calls out down the corridor: "If yuh-you're really who you say you are, you'll be able to answer this question. What was it GiGi called you when we first met? You said you'd be thrice blessed if that was the worst you were called."

The dwarf waits anxiously for a response.

OOC: the correct answer is Flabersham!

Betheas
Thursday June 19th, 2008 4:23:04 PM

Betheas waits, and watches the others; chuckling a bit when the ever resourceful Bendis asks his secret question. The elf can't remember what was said, but he remembers the conversation.

Rosario Sheet  d20+1=3 ;
Thursday June 19th, 2008 4:30:18 PM

Rosario continues to hold his aim and stains to see if he can see anything, but the tunnel is just too dark [spot 3] He doesn't answer Zita, doesn't think he he needs to or should. He recalls the conversation and the Fabersham got a mit mifted, but he too does not recall the answer. Then again , he was not the one feeling insulted where Fabersham did so he might. Rosario simply answers "maybe" to the suggestions that it may indeed be Fabersham. He will give a silent count of 5 and if no answer is presented he calls out.
Step forward then and pray you are recognized!"

I'm coming through! [DM Jerry]
Thursday June 19th, 2008 8:35:33 PM

"No, young ones. I understand. ::still panting:: You have reason to be careful. That's good. ::cough:: ::wheeze::

"No I don't remember what you called me..is that you Bendis? My memory is not what it used to be.

"Didn't we leave Farce behind at Dahlia's place? Hate those Gnomishes. It has been quite the journey since then, young ones."

Then after listening, he adds.

"Very well, I'm coming through, if this foul demon's mouth doesn't burn me alive. Nasty thing."

Calvierius 12/28 HP
Thursday June 19th, 2008 10:38:39 PM

Never having met Fabersham, Calvierius keeps his bow readied and waits to see the reaction of his companions before doing anything aggressive.

Shooting a look at Bendis as he turns a bit red from embarrasment as he recalls the misspeak he had over Fabersham's name, GiGi holds his spell and sword ready to defend his friends.

Zita
Thursday June 19th, 2008 11:41:12 PM

Zita lets out a most unladylike snort as she listens to the group and nods her head. "Figures you go quiet on me now." She turns at the voice and keeps quiet till they know for sure that it is Fabersham. Evidently he has no heard her speaking yet and maybe does not know that she is there. Moving off to the side she moves so that some of the others are blocking the view of her from the tunnel mouth. She nods to Rosario though she is not happy to hear the voice replying that he does not remember.

She has switched out her rapier for the bow that she carries, nocking an arrow for easy use. Silently she waits for the arrival of whatever fates seems to have in store for them.

Julien
Thursday June 19th, 2008 11:56:14 PM

Julien glances quickly toward his friends. No one let their guard down? Good. He nods to himself and waits.

Bendis  d20+9=16 ;
Friday June 20th, 2008 3:53:19 AM

Bendis' stomach drops when the visitor claims to have forgotten GiGi's slip of the tongue. It was, after all, only a couple of days ago. Could this be an imposter? The Fabersham he remembers seemed sharp as a new tack. Something doesn't sit right. And what was all that about Farce? "Didn't we leave him behind at Dahlia's place?" "We" did no such thing; Fabersham was killed before their eyes, and then the party left, unwittingly leaving Farce behind. The last they'd heard Farce was being nursed back to health by Dahlia's people. If Fabersham had been revived by Dahlia, wouldn't he know that? And what does he mean, Gnomishes? Either Fabersham's memory is completely shot or...

The dwarf whispers to his companions: "Fellows, I have a bad fuh-feeling about this. I'm going to cast my Charm Person spell on "Fabersham". If it's really him then no harm done. If not... well, we'll have a better chance of finding out who he really is. Assuming I can get the suh-spell to work of course. Be careful, he may well not be alone."

READIED ACTION: Charm Person at "Fabersham" as soon as he appears, Will DC 16. Knowledge Arcana 16 to determine if Fabersham is suffering any obvious magical effects.

Coming into view is.... [DM Jerry]
Friday June 20th, 2008 9:12:19 PM

Calvierius keeps his bow ready and prepares to react according to what he sees on his new friends' faces.

Gigi looks embarrassed as she remembers the moment of mispronouncing Fabersham's name.

Zita changes to her bow and remains quiet for the moment.

Julien, checks his party members and notes their readiness. The group has grown alot recently.

Bendis' fears grow and he prepares a spell.

-----

Coming into view is.....Fabersham. He looks tired. The look of "teacher" and "authority figure" is gone. The impression is that of an old man almost to the point of exhaustion.

He is alone. He stops in the doorway and then seeing Zita, he does a double-take.

"Z--Zita?"

"Oh."

He starts to bow, but is interrupted.

--------

Technically, readying an action is a combat move. We are not in combat at the moment. So there is no need to ready actions, friends. Just do what you want.

Zita [Aid]
Friday June 20th, 2008 10:26:49 PM

Since she has been spotted she inclines her head to the man that was to be their mentor. Her eyes do not leave him though and her bow is ready for any false moves. She does glance to the others and waits to see if the spell that Bendis is going to use...works.

For this one time she is more than happy to stand back and wait for the others to do the talking. Though it does seem rude to not say at least something. "Yes." It is a simple statement that could be taken as question or confimation that she is she.

Picci
Saturday June 21st, 2008 5:18:55 AM

"Master Fabersham..." Picci says from her position on the wall/floor/whatever, "...you're looking much better now than when we last saw you, sir."

Bendis
Monday June 23rd, 2008 3:48:14 AM

"Um, sir, please accept my apologies, but we need to be sure you are who you say you are. Please open your mind to me..."

And so saying he casts his Charm Person spell, hoping his former tutor offers no resistance.

"So, is it really you, master Fabersham? Duh-Did you come here to help us or to do us harm?"

Rosario Sheet
Monday June 23rd, 2008 9:58:36 AM

Rosario relaxes his immediate aim at seeing Fabersham step out. the old man could never cover the distance before he could take aim and fire and so he relaxes. He does though, now stand and space his feet out. He would see what Bendis's spell would do. More interstingly he wanted to see if abersham would attempt to resist it. One thing thta struck his mind was that the man seemed a bit surprised to see Zita. Why on Wold what that be. And more importantly to him, why was he here in the first place? Rosario would wait for now, wait and watch.

Calvierius 12/28 HP 8 rounds of Enlarge Person remaining
Monday June 23rd, 2008 2:11:36 PM

Without anyone to shoot at, Calvierius keeps his bow trained on Fabersham.

"Who is this guy? Or, who is he supposed to be? Should we pincushion him just to be on the safe side?"

Picci
Monday June 23rd, 2008 9:57:37 PM

Picci whispers to Cal so that only he can hear: "He appears to be Master Fabersham...he was assigned to us as a tutor by Nonna and Duke Elisabetta before...before everything happened." She pauses a moment before adding:

"I don't think 'pincushioning' him would be a good idea at the moment...if he truly is Master Fabersham, there's no way any of us have the money to pay for another Resurrection spell on him, especially since none of us are getting an allowance anymore..."

Julien
Tuesday June 24th, 2008 12:14:03 AM

Julen watches carefully. Good move by Bendis, providing it didn't put Fabersham's nose out of joint in terms of pride. Gargul's single eyeball they were getting jumpy.
The sight of their tutor brings other thoughts. How would the Platinum Dragons have done this? Would they have been immediately sure one way or the other? One thing was for sure, if this WAS Fabersham, he looked like he needed help. If it wasn't, then Gods help them all...

It is the enemy! [DM Jerry]  d20+12=25 ;
Tuesday June 24th, 2008 12:56:59 PM

Fabersham looks at Bendis with the frown that only a teacher can give. He easily saves against Bendis' spell.

"Times have truly been tough, Master Bendis. It has taught you not to trust. Good. However, I am not willing to submit to a student in such a place when my life may be threatened for a second time this week.

"Yes, I too have had rather interesting experience. Picci, you didn't think that my former employer, Dahlia would leave me dead did you? Think boy.

He pauses and forces himself to relax and breathe deeply.

Then he turns to Calvierius.

"I see you've added to the study group. Has this young man been thoroughly vetted? You must be careful. Bendis is right."

He scrutinizes the group.

"So Rosario is to be the protector. Good choice."

"So why are you here then?"

Then his eyes fall for the firs time on the pedestal. He freezes his face turning whiter if that is possible.

"Children, do not touch that amulet! It is a trap. The third item is not a part of the other two! It is the enemy of the other two items. The final test! If you touch it, you will surely die!"

"Knock it onto the floor and let me use a disintegrate on it!"

Rosario Sheet
Tuesday June 24th, 2008 3:56:01 PM

Rosario reacquires Fabersham as a target with his bow now fully drawn. "I suggest you step two paces back sir." his tone even but without much room to compromise.

"We might be inclined to explain further once you elaborate on why and how you arrived here, where Dahlia is and what she might be doing to find the murderers responsible for these past few days, who is or was with you and why Gigi should take off the amulet."

Bendis
Tuesday June 24th, 2008 4:37:56 PM

The dwarf nods nervously, but with resolve.

"I-I'm afraid Rosario's right sir. Given the situation the onus is on you to prove yourself, and to answer our questions. Allowing my spell to be cast would have gone quite some way to helping us be sure we are in no danger. As it is I'm afraid you'll need to do as Rosario says. After all, as you ruh-rightly point out, he is the Protector. Suh-step back please sir."

He steps in betwen the amulet and Fabersham.

Zita [Aid]
Tuesday June 24th, 2008 8:04:18 PM

Letting the others talk to Fabersham she turns her attention inwards, to the ring that she wears. Letting everything else fall away she tries to get in touch with what remains of the entity of her mother. Mother, I need your advice right now really bad. The ring and earring have led us here or at least it seems that way. Are the three ducal artifacts meant to be united...or is there a greater secret? She is not sure if she will get a reply, but she is hoping for something that will help them out.

There are too many things wrong with what has been said and done here so far. The amulet has already been touched and put on...and it did no harm. Flabersham seemed to be surprised to find me here as if I should be dead.

Master Fabersham's logic is sound--until he shouts his warning about the amulet. The ring and the earring were instrumental in leading the group to this place...and yet the elder was now insisting that the amulet was a danger to them all. Frowning thoughtfully, Picci immediately invokes mystic insight from the Good Gods of the Wold...

OOC: Picci is casting Detect Magic in order to try to divine what kind of magic anything within her range may be radiating.

Looking around at the amulet that no longer hangs around his neck but has returned to the skeleton, Gigi moves the glowing spiritual weapon closer to Fabersham definitely conveying the implied threat.

At Fabersham's declaration of destruction for the amulet, GiGi joins Bendis in sheilding the amulet from him and than looks carefully at their former mentor as he knows he saw him die and checks to see if there is any taint of the undead about him.

Julien cocks his head slightly while listening to 'Fabersham' talk. It was beginning to sound a little more convincing until the amulet is mentioned.
He didn't know they'd already touched it. He didn't know! An advantage, now turned into a disadvantage, if he'd caught Rosario's comment. Dang his friend's forthrightness.
All the bearers were a possible target, now.

Attempting to appear nonchalent, he steps slowly toward Gigi, and will try and get in front of him.

"Now, things are starting to get interesting indeed. I certainly wouldn't want to touch that amulet, stick or no stick."

Calvierius carefully returns his bow and arrow to his back, and retrieves his Double Axe while moving up toward Fabersham.

"I think, if you've truly the ability to disintegrate something, that you won't feel threatened by us at all. But, just in case, I should warn you. One wrong move, and you might not get a chance to cast it at all."

----

SENSE MOTIVE - 19 - Is Fabersham lying? Deceitful? Trustworthy?

If possible, Calv will move up to within 10' of Fabersham, since he's Large currently, he can threaten at that reach. He can draw his weapon as he moves, since his BAB is above +1, and he'll try and stay out of the line-of-fire from the rest of the party. He can't ready an attack, though, since he stowed his weapon and moved, but he would get an AoO if Fabersham cast a spell (which he would take).

Disintegrate! [DM Jerry]
Wednesday June 25th, 2008 3:25:20 PM

Fabersham peers warily at Rosario's request for him to move back a couple of steps. He does not move.

Then Bendis chimes in his agreement. He takes two steps back and looks warily at our heroes.

There is no reply to Zita's request. But there is an intuition that the ring is not answering right now purposely...as if it is trying to keep a low profile.

Picci detects the magic that the party has and also sees that the staff Fabersham is holding is magical.

Gigi detects no sign or hint of the undead about Fabersham as she moves to stand with her compatriots to help block access to the amulet.

Then Julien moves in turn to stand in front of Gigi, effectively creating several layers of heroes to get past before Fabersham can have access to destroy the amulet.

Then Calvierius makes an additional threat.

Something about how Calvierius makes the threat causes a slow grin spreads over Fabersham's face. Not in his character at all.

"So, you kids are all big shots now. You have your ringees and your girly earrings and you've "bravely" made it into this old Teucri stronghold?"

As he speaks his voice begins changing. Becoming rougher, deeper, sounds like Fabersham is literally ripping out his vocal cords to make such a sound. With this, his body seems to stop drooping and to gain a confidence of poise and readiness that belies his years.

"YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE DEALING WITH! AND YOU'VE MADE ME ANGRY!"

His hands come up in the pose of casting a spell and he shouts at Calvierius....

"DISINTEGRATE!!!"

A slight spark shoots from his hands...

...floats over towards Calvierius....

...and then fizzles.

A look of total surprise takes over Fabersham's face as he stares questioningly and then angrily at his hands.

We are now in combat. I'm going to keep the AC private for a bit. So state the AC you hit and the possible damage if you hit.

Sorry for the posts getting kinda off on time yesterday and today. Went down to Dallas to a concert: Styx and Boston. Yep, had a great time.

Scott has asked to go inactive for a time. There is no creative way to honorably exit him in character at this point in time. So I've adjusted the stats of your opponent for this module to exclude him. We'll just exit him out of character for the battle.

It is now your initiative. We're not using a map, so just use common sense as Calvierius has done in his post.

"Uh-uh-um fellows, I duh-don't think that's the Fabersham we know" the partly dwarf stutters, stating the obvious. "Whatever he is, we need to take him down!"

He casts another spell, though without a great deal of confidence: the last one was shrugged off with ease. Still, he has to try. Focusing all his mental strength he calls out the words of a spell he has been studying for weeks, but has never previously mastered. Perhaps now, in this strange and magical place, he will finally succeed.

(OOC: Casts Hideous Laughter at "Fabersham", Will DC 17 Only a 25% chance of success, but it's Bendis' best chance of having an impact on the battle).

And with that, Calvierius went into a whirl of metal and rage.

----

The first attack (AC 24 for 10 damage) is the possible AoO on Fabersham as he cast a spell. If he didn't provoke for whatever reason (Concentration check, DM fiat, special ability), ignore it.

The second two attacks are the TWF attacks with the Orcish Double Axe - hit AC 18 for 11 and AC 16 for 10.

After attacking, Calv will take a 5' adjustment to be directly adjacent to Fabersham. This way he can't 5' step back and cast.

OOC: please don't forget that Picci cast Protection from Evil on Rosario. He gets +2 AC and a +2 Resistance bonus on his Saving Throws versus any evil attack on him as a result. I see that Zita remembered to note she is still under the influence of Picci's Aid spell.

The young acolyte--being one of the furthest away from the faux Fabersham--fumbles with her sling, loading the simple weapon with one of the bullets from her belt pouch, her hands shaking as she also continues to keep an eye on the results of her Detect Magic spell. What kind of staff does this imposter have on him? Would her family be able to prevail against it?

And why in the Wold don't they make self-loading slings???

Zita is not scared as much by the fact that the rings tells her nothing...it is the fact that it appears to be hiding from a presence. As the group goes about their questioning of Fabersham, she feels even more that this is not their mentor.

Then things start to go all wrong and this imposter is shooting off a spell at one of her newest friends. The voice changes and the spell seems to be having no effect, but that does not calm her any. Without much thought her bow comes up as she steps to the side slightly and giving herself an open shot. With only Cal engaged with the imposter and still a good distance away, she feels better about taking a shot.

Friday June 27th, 2008 2:29:25 AM

Bendis casts Hideous Laughter. Fabersham starts to giggle. Then he shakes his head and barely throws it off. He stares a Bendis possibly re-examining the strength of this party.

Calvierius hits with his first attack slicing open Fabersham's robe and slicing across his chest. His second attack misses as Fabersham ducks under. Calvarius then makes his 5' step. (We were not in combat when he cast, so there was no AOO. As far as I know you can't ready an action before combat begins. Hey, I've been wrong before.)

Picci continues concentrating on her spell. The staff seems to be a direct plus to hit and damage as the most potent aura. It has one other aura she can't detect yet. She also prepares her sling.

Ziti misses the target, her shot going side to the left. The arrow skitters off the sphere causing it to fly off at a weird angle..

Gigi begins casting Summon Monster 1. Waves of light shoot from one hand to the other as she prepares. In some void far away, a dog barks his inevitable acceptance of the summons.

Rosario misses his target as the arrow falls short. Then she moves to a flanking position across from Calvierius.

Julian casts Spectral Hand. As he casts, it appears as if his right hand is becoming disembodied for a moment. Then the hand moves and his hand reappears. (Hey, its flavor text. ;)

He swings, the staff whistling with the speed hitting AC 23 for 10hpd. Then surrounded by the spiritual hammer, Calvierius and Rosario, he takes a 5' step in the only side open to him to try and prevent the flanking position. He remains facing Calvierius.

Nevertheless the petite cleric winds up her readied weapon and lets fly the bullet from her sling. OOC: Picci hits AC12 for 2hpd.

She continues to concentrate on the staff, suspecting that it likely has an additional enchantment on it that nobody in her family is going to like being on the receving end.

Bendis
Sunday June 29th, 2008 11:39:11 AM

With his strongest two spells seemingly ineffectual against this imposter, Bendis is at something of a loss as to what to do. He has little else in his repetoire that will have any effect on so powerful a foe.

What would his father, Boomis Billingstone, do in this situation? If his axe had shattered and he found himself with no practical means of attack? More likely than not he would rush in and try to headbutt the fellow to death. Bendis considers that possibility for one brief, carzy moment, but quickly puts the idea aside. For good or ill, he is not his father.

Instead he backs further away (5' step), unslings the his crossbow from his back and readies it, casting yet another spell. Perhaps this will be of some use.

(Casting True Strike).

The axeheads flew viciously through the air, and would have scored deeply into Fabersham's body, but instead they simply whistled harmlessly by.

"Urk, that hurt. You're going to have to pay for that in blood, little man."

Any extra healing would be, of course, appreciated. Odds are, Fabersham will down Calvierius this round. Such is life.

ALSO: The whole combat-noncombat thing is funny. Technically, we're all flat-footed and cannot make AoOs before we get into combat, so that makes sense. If I had Combat Reflexes, I'd appeal the ruling, but mainly because I haven't been rolling well ever since.

Party Results Round 2 [DM Jerry]
Monday June 30th, 2008 11:25:58 AM

Rosario renews the flank on Fabersham and then pulls an amazing maneuver by disarming him causing him to drop the staff!

Picci lets fly with another stone and misses. She realizes that there was no magic concerning the arrow missing last round. It was an optical illusion of the room being a sphere making it look that way. (sorry just flavor text Picci)

Gigi's summoned dog appears closing the circle of opponents surrounding Fabersham. The dog immediately leaves his imprint on the battle by biting Fabersham in the ankle causing the old man to give out a scream of quick agony!

Gigi's spiritual sword seems to miss Fabersham, but then Gigi realizes that it does clip him after all. (I'm going to allow flanking between your dog and your spiritual sword.)

Zita decides that it would be hard to hit with ranged weapon or spell at the moment with 4 melee attackers, so she readies an action to try and interrupt any spell that Fabersham might try to cast.

Picci moves can't cast Cure Moderate Wounds yet because it is the same round.

Bendis draws his crossbow and preparing it, casts True Strike.

Calvierius keeps the pressure on with his melee attacks, but doesn't hit this time. He is not healed yet.

Julian sends his Spectral Hand into the fray, a maniacal look forming on his face as he commands the hand to perform Vampiric Touch. The hand connects landing upside Fabersham's head gently and draining him while looking as if it is caressing the man.

He tries to swing at him thrice, but the vertigo induced by the strange subjective gravity in the room seems to be finally catching up with him. Perhaps it is the strangeness of being so large, or perhaps it was the near death experience, but for whatever reason, Calvierius' three attacks whistled harmlessly through the air.

Then he feels the magic of his spell flowing through him, and in the heat of battle he suddenly feels an almost impossible calm. Everything is suddenly so clear; time seems to slow, the deadly ballet of combat seems to become a simple, choreographed pattern, and he is aware of the next move, and the one ahead of that. There will be a gap between his friends in a few fractions of a second that will leave him a clear shot. He needs to fire just micro-seconds before that... just about...

NOW!

The bolt flies true, straight between his friends, slamming hard into Fabersham's side (AC 39 for 8hp). The dwarf knows what is coming next. He has read the way the combatants are moving, it is all so clear...

As he reloads his crossbow that clarity drains away. Bendis is left clutching fading remnants of what once seemed so obvious, like a dreamer upon waking. The battle descends once more into a chaotic maelstrom of sound and fury.
