A Party'n We Will Go... (DM Jay) Thursday August 21st, 2008 7:07:12 PM
The weeks pass with indecent haste and soon the group will have to journey to the Crescent Valley or turn down the invite, disappointing the halflings. Two days remain to get everything in order for the journey to the Crescent.
It is also unclear what is to happen with the egg, which is a great concern and mystery and the ever so evil staff, which the castle ghost has taken to guarding. Brusse is wary and wishes the evil thing gone, for it is sure to corrupt someone soon.
Valdor has also failed to contact the Emeralds. This is expected, seeing as how those Dragons retired and can't be bothered. They DID say that the Wold is the Emerald's to protect now. That nothing was above us figuring out on our own. This is true. You dealt with Parnoth, a thorn that has finally been removed. And his erstwhile usurpers, the trio of Reds that you also vanquished. How hard is it to deal with an egg and staff. You destroyed the necromancers staff well enough without the Plats or Golds help. However, concerns still remain.
Most everyone is ready. Gunther and Bertram have yet to return. The orcs are working on the trade road deal, which will surely take a bit of work. Orcs are not good with diplomacy and contracts.
Mop is getting on well and there are NO complaints about him among anyone who the Emeralds have talked to. But there is currently no talk about replacing him either.
Falin disappears for a day before returning with a package.
Athalorn (Sub Joe) Thursday August 21st, 2008 9:31:46 PM
At the mention of Traveling to see the Halflings Athalorn volunteers to Cast Windwalk on the group to speed thier journey. He says "This way we can take a look at the countryside as we Travel, Teleporting all over the place makes us miss out on all the wonders nature has to offer."

Falin Friday August 22nd, 2008 8:44:14 AM
Falin finishes any final packing he requires and joins the other Dragons.
Falin returns with a big smile on his face as he walks up to the other Dragons. "I finally feel like I might be of more use than just bringing the enemy down from a distance. I crafted some new arrows that I am going to try out in different situations. Well, see how it goes."
OOC: Jay CS is finished up
OOC Jay: Looks fine Jamie.
Lian d20-1=4 ; Friday August 22nd, 2008 12:23:49 PM
The monk is seen performing some tricks with flaming iron spheres, out of shear boredom. (Continual Flame, Unskilled perform 4). For a nimble elf, he sure isn't having much luck with the four flaming orbs.
DM ooc Friday August 22nd, 2008 5:14:10 PM
OOC: Work tonight. Off to bed. Sorry all.

Ingrge: AC 28, HP102/102, stoneskin 70/70, SR 18, freedom of movement, Bull's strength Saturday August 23rd, 2008 10:38:18 AM
On one day before they depart Ingrge takes the evil staff out into the emerald forest to an area of solid rock and casts three spells. Transmute rock to mud - turning a 10ft by 10 ft 150 foot deep section of rock ginto gooey mud. The second spell he casts is teleport object, which he uses to teleport the staff 140 feet down into the middle of the mud. And then the final spell he casts is a Transmute mud to rock spell sealing the staff inside the middle of solid bedrock.
As Ingrge heads out with the others, he vehemently agrees with Athalorn that they should go for the wind walking and all new experiences.
Falin Saturday August 23rd, 2008 11:03:18 AM
Listening to Ingrge and Athalorn about the real traveling Falin picks a piece of grass from the ground and places it between his teeth. Smiling at the group, "I think it would be very relaxing to use a real mode of travel this time as well. Nothing against teleporting, but it seems like we miss out on alot of bonding. I would like a horse though."
DM Post Saturday August 23rd, 2008 11:52:47 AM
OOC: LOL! Ingrge, take 200xp for the ingenious way of solving the staff issue! You will know where it is when you need it. :) Great idea!
Lian Saturday August 23rd, 2008 11:54:54 AM
Lian agrees with the three others, "I agree too. It reminds me of the days we were poor and magicless. I like the idea of floating. I'll take my carpet." He smiles. "Aeri, what do you think?" He turns to the sorceress.
Gunther Saturday August 23rd, 2008 1:00:59 PM
Wrapping up his inspection/vacation with the orcs, Gunther teleports back to the castle with Bertram. In unusual high spirits, Gunther keeps grinning everytime he glances Bertram's way, as if there is an unspoken secret between the two.
Linking up with the others, Gunther looks more than a little uneasy about the prospects of another formal event. He turns to Lian. "Tell me friend Lian...are dese halfling folk as erhm...concerned about manners as elves?" The warrior has a terrifying vision of a table set with 50 forks, all of which look identical to him, but only one that is appropriate to eat the salad with.
As talk turns to modes of transportation, Gunther looks a little hesitant. "I don't know how Delila vill take to it, but I guess ve could give it a try."
Athalorn Sunday August 24th, 2008 4:23:15 AM OOC: Apologies for prolonged absence friends. Seems I am back just in time for the module to start. And many thanks to Joe - sorry you had some difficulties getting logged in. Seems you never got to a fight either! But if ever I can return the favour please just let me know.
While at the grove, Athalorn hears he familiar cry of his erstwhile ally from the boughs above. "Glannath, you old so and so! You want to rest now? Or do you want to journey with me again? You're not getting any younger you know!" The old eagle seems to nod its head in acquiescence, understanding the words. It then dives at the druid and playfully pecks him on the shoulder before taking flight above the grove. The grove itself is still a metropolis of forest life, far from the place of sanctuary and peace that Athalorn had envisaged all those months ago. Athalorn greets the fey that have taken up residence there, then rests.
After resting for a few days, and praying for new spells for their next journey, he returns to the tower.
Hearing the idea for a school, Athalorn wholeheartedly agrees with Falin's suggestion.
On the issue of travel, Athalorn prepares to cast windwalk on those that wish it....
Spells to be changed on CS asap

(OOC: Don't forget, Ingrge has offered a max level magic missile scroll to any who can read arcane scrolls. please let me know if your PC is taking one. Can you imagine being hit by 45 bolts of magic missile at the same time.......? each is 5 missiles 1d4+1: talk about a sneak attack.)
Lian Sunday August 24th, 2008 10:40:16 AM
The monk smirks at Gunther. "My brother, I have only known two halflings in my life, Nimblick, a childhood friend and Milo. All I know of halflings is of Nimblick's patience and calm demeanor and that of Milo's daring and cunning. Hardly a reasonable comparison." He laughs. "This is going to be completely new to me."
"I think your kitty would be fine on the ground. She could keep up just fine I think. Besides, I think she'd welcome the occasional hunt in new lands anyway. Of course that is up to you and her."
"Ah! A good aerial view of nature again will be nice. I might even decide to walk part of the way. In fact, the carpet only lasts a little while anyway, before it needs rest."
Lian Monday August 25th, 2008 8:03:30 AM
Is ready to go.
The Party Cometh Monday August 25th, 2008 5:17:25 PM
So, the day before the induction of the new Burgomeister, the Emeralds are more or less prepared for the festivities. One thing remains, the communication from Valdor about Maab, about the egg.
Knara receives an enigmatic message. "We're are sorry, but the communication system that is receiving your enquiry is down for repair. If you believe this to be in err, please contact the nearest Dragon Consortium members immediately. If this is an emergency, please stay on the line and Gargul will be in touch shortly." Hardly helpful.
The castle has never looked so peaceful and Brusse is going about his business with enthusiasm. He sees Knara after dinner that evening. "Ma'am, the patrols report all is well. Shall we secure the perimeter?"
Ingrge: AC 28, HP102/102, stoneskin 70/70, SR 18, freedom of movement, Bull's strength Monday August 25th, 2008 7:41:52 PM
K'nara, if Valdor is not answering, might I suggest a direct call to Maab. She is after all part of the Consortium, or perhaps you should ask for Lord Sturtevannt.
Gunther Monday August 25th, 2008 11:04:32 PM
Issuing the hunt command to his big cat, Gunther readies himself. Looking none too certain about Lian's reply, Gunther hesitantly begins to sky walk with the other Dragons, though he does keep casting anxious glances about after Delilah. After all, there was that one time with the farmer's dogs...
K'Nara Monday August 25th, 2008 11:17:24 PM
OOC: Real Life is kicking my butt...I'll have a real post for next time! (sob)
Lian Tuesday August 26th, 2008 11:45:50 AM
The monk searches for Aeri, realizing she is nowhere in the castle and if she is, she's hiding well.
Athalorn Tuesday August 26th, 2008 2:54:53 PM
The shifter watches Glannath circling overhead, waiting for the party to depart.
Falin Tuesday August 26th, 2008 3:05:09 PM
Falin waits to depart.
Brother Bertram Tuesday August 26th, 2008 4:06:09 PM
Bertram arrives back with Gunther very relaxed, glad he took the trip with his brother. He is equally pleased to see how well Home is doing.
(OOC sorry for the delays all, seems my internet access was not to be. Anyway glad to be back and rarin to go!)
DM Post Tuesday August 26th, 2008 4:46:48 PM
OOC: I fully expect that the thunder storms across the nation will soon be causing havoc with internets everywhere. Washington state is experiencing t-storms all over. At any rate, I appreciate the effort being put in to access the game. Glad to have you back Mark.
Parting and partying (DM Jay) Tuesday August 26th, 2008 4:55:48 PM
The Dragons seem to be waiting for confirmation to depart. Perhaps waiting for Knara's go-ahead?
The party animals are anxious because they realize they will soon be returning to nature.
Ingrge makes some reasonable suggestions of how to deal with the Maab thing, since Valdor is being aloof. Both are decent suggestions.
However, there is third option for the time being as to where to leave the egg which, strangely enough was brought to point by Brusse of all people. No one seems to have brought up, because the option is terrifying. Mop. Leave the egg in the palace. Return for it later. But this is pure desperation, isn't it? You might even be able to have Mop play errand boy and get him to communicate with Valdor, Sturdevant and Maab while your gone.
Falin Tuesday August 26th, 2008 6:01:54 PM
"What is this egg you all keep talking about? Why not bring it with us and we can drop it off someplace on the way there or the way back. I have a portable hole we can keep it in for the time being."
Falin waits for a look from someone since he is just grasping at straws.
Ingrge: AC 28, HP102/102, stoneskin 70/70, SR 18, freedom of movement, Bull's strength Tuesday August 26th, 2008 7:20:05 PM
Oh I am soory Falin. We seem to have acquired a dragon egg of some type. I felt it would be wiser if perhaps we were to send it to Maab for her overseeing.
Aeralia Tuesday August 26th, 2008 7:58:58 PM (OOC: Apologies for my sudden disappearance...my dad had a 5 hour surgury for a stomach anuerism on Thursday, I lost my job on Friday (and I hated my job, so its a blessing in disguise), and quickly enrolled into school on Fri/Mon... Been a busy weekend.)
Aeralia spends much of her remaining time at the castle in the courtyard. The sorceress is constantly practicing her magics, the courtyard often filled with a variety of illusionary monsters, and a flashing sword of force hacking through the summoned illusions with skill and accuracy. The young woman herself is often invisible, moving swiftly about the courtyard, weaving between conjured walls of force.
"I'm up for whatever you decide," Aeralia says with a smile, when Lian finds her and questions her about mode of transportation. "Just as long as we get there on time. Walking, flying, teleporting: it all works."

Lian Wednesday August 27th, 2008 12:02:55 PM
OOC: Jamie, hope your dad is better! As for the job, congrats. I've been trying to get fired for 11 years. :)
The monk is simply ready whenever Knara is. His carpet is out and ready. "As soon as we reach Maab, we'll be able to go. That egg is bothering Ingrge I think." Smiles the elf.
Athalorn Wednesday August 27th, 2008 3:49:00 PM
"So Falin, tell me, is there some way I can help with your school? I am happy to teach students the ways of the Culverwood."
Lian Wednesday August 27th, 2008 5:12:21 PM
"Athalorn, this will be wonderful! I'm going to be teaching there too. However, I know little of the Culverwood's 'ways'. I will be teaching Domi's Arts of the Hand. I like 'aggressive negotiations', but the other wording is more PC."
He looks around. "Ingrge, can we Astral Travel part of the way? That might be fun."
Morning Wednesday August 27th, 2008 5:17:26 PM
Around 8am the rooster crows. You all know, by now, that the festivities take place at dusk that evening. You know you will have to teleport at least part of the way.
K'Nara Wednesday August 27th, 2008 8:49:40 PM
K'Nara has spent the last few weeks immersed in blade singer training as well as her futile attempts to contact Valdor. Ingrge's suggestion about contacting Maab was a welcome alternative...but the Rings of Communication that the group was given now seem to be unable to communicate with anyone else other than the Emeralds. The red-headed warrior woman was getting frustated enough to contemplate chewing hers to pieces and spitting the parts into a painted target for practice...almost. In the end, K'Nara contacted Mop and asked that he use his own means to be able to contact Maab for them.
"Brusse," she addressed the conscientious phantom, "I'm going to rely on you to keep watch over this egg, then. You may not like the idea of it possibly hatching a dragon...but if this egg IS viable, then the life within it deserves a chance to live. I don't believe that any living creature is automatically good or evil--so we have to give the life in this egg the opportunity to learn the difference between the two and to choose for itself. It's the least we can do." The leader of the Emerald Dragons then makes sure that the egg is secured within the castle and asks Caeryn to kindly look after it as well as Brusse.
She can only hope that she isn't taking her personal beliefs to an extreme and endangering the castle and Madyrn with it.
"Windwalking, eh?" K'Nara says of the idea to use that spell to go to the festival. "All right, then...I always like taking the scenic route--you learn so much more about the land that way."
If nobody else has already done so, K'Nara will take at least one of the Maximized Magic Missile scrolls being offered by Ingrge. (OOC: the stats for that again, please...?)
Athalorn Thursday August 28th, 2008 3:36:36 AM
Athalorn nods, and begins his whispered prayer. He has to cast the spell twice, and as his words near fruition, the whole party (including Gunther's cat, if desired) and Glannath begin to fade somewhat - becoming translucent and vaporous. Athalorn smiles as he feels the magic course through his body, and he immediately takes to the air, first going directly above the others. "Come, let the winds guide you!"
He then allows the magical breeze to blow him quickly away.
Lian Thursday August 28th, 2008 11:27:40 AM
The monk learns about the Air Walk and likes the option. "I'll keep the carpet handy, just in case."
Gunther Thursday August 28th, 2008 1:31:34 PM
The warrior lightens up a bit as he journeys with his friends Athalorn and Bertram. He still casts anxious glances down toward his kitty, but most of the time he spends chatting with the others about what they think the halfling party will be like.

With the egg taken to Maab or Mop, it is out of the way for now. The group head out in the morning, Airwalking most, if not all of the way.
The forest is active. Trees moving about, birds rise in clouds from the canopy, avoiding you just above them, and herds of deer and elk are seen from the air. When the land starts to rise, you begin seeing wild goat and several packs of wolves.
You head northeast and start coming upon orchards, fields of oats and grains and hillocks within hours. Traditional halfling territory. It is mid day. A thin gray-brown haze lies overhead and the valley comes to view.
Brother Bertram Monday September 1st, 2008 10:19:42 AM
Bertram moves along with the others, enjoying the morning. He looks upon the valley curiously as they approach.
Lian Monday September 1st, 2008 11:14:12 AM

Aeralia Monday September 1st, 2008 7:24:13 PM
Aeralia is happy to travel under the wind-walking mode, enjoying the chance to experience something new, and test the limits of the spell, seeing what its capable of as far as maneuverability and movement.
A short way into the journey, she tests her spell casting ability in her wispy, gaseous form, kicking of a single simple prestidigitation cantrip, cast by thought alone.
As the valley comes into view, she works herself down out of the sky, and towards the ground, ready to dismiss the enchantment when the time is right.
Aeralia Monday September 1st, 2008 7:29:56 PM (OOC: Cast Silent,Still Prestidigitation as a simple and momentary illusion) Spells Remaining: 6/9/7/8/8/8/6/4

Falin begins towards the ground
K'Nara Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 11:06:10 PM
(OOC: sorry...Labor Day was no day of rest for me.)
K'Nara squints at the thin gray-brown haze.
"What in the Wold could be the cause of that?" she asks pointedly, although the question isn't directed at any one particular Emerald Dragon in particular.
Gunther Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 1:04:40 AM
Traveling along without a care in the Wold, Gunther pauses. "Vat are you talking about K'nara...I don't see anyting strange."
Athalorn Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 1:52:25 AM
Also peering around as they are whisked along by the wind, Athalorn also struggles to see the haze that K'Nara speaks of.
K'Nara Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 3:38:24 AM
OOC: Given the choice between Maab or Mop, K'Nara would have picked Maab to get the amethyst egg first.
Also, this is the DM Post from last Friday:

The "thin gray-brown haze" is what K'Nara is questioning, as it sounds like smog or the like to me, which is a substance that shouldn't exist in a very natural halfling habitat. (Unless I misconstrued the description, in which case...sorry, my bad!)
Athalorn Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 12:35:34 PM Ah right .... must read more carefully! Sorry
Athalorn begins to float downwards into the valley.
Lian Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 4:31:18 PM
The monk scratches his head at the haze. "Maybe its from all the pipeweed they like to smoke." He chortles.
Descending further.
"Do you suppose that could be one of the things this new lord mayor baron halfling guy needs us to check out?"
DM post Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 4:33:48 PM
OOC: You read correctly. There is a thin haze covering the valley. However, only the right checks will reveal what if anything is odd about it. ;)
So, the Emeralds descend. As they do so they will have to pass through this haze to do so, or double back and land up in a pass some distance back in the Red Hills. There is a bay off to your right, a river delta just below you and a town in front of you. You will land on a narrow strip of land between rolling hills and a river. Angel Springs lays about a half mile due north.
The time is roughly 2pm. The weather seems undecided.
Some of you may realize, just south of here is Windhorn Hamlet.
(OOC: Let me know if you want more details. :))

Having enjoyed the wind walk, Ingrge is a biot dismayed over the haze hanging over everything as the last time he was in the area, everything was so green and lush. Taking some time he casts his arcane sight over the area and tries to deduce if there seems to be a magical component or reason to the haze.
Acrane sight is permanent ability.

K'Nara frowns to herself once more--the very fact that there's a haze over the valley raises her suspicions, although she is darned if she knows why. (OOC: I rolled a 7 on the d20--if K'Nara merely needs to Spot something, then she gets a +1 bonus for a total Spot check of 8. If she needs to exercise her Knowledge of Arcana, then her check total is 16. If she is utilizing her ability to discern Spellcraft, then her check total is 18.)
Gunther d20+8=10 ; Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 11:36:16 PM
As he travels through the haze, Gunther scrunches up his nose...hmmm...nope, nothing fishy (Spot=10). Shrugging his shoulders the warrior sets about finding Delilah....doesn't want any halflings going missing under mysterious circumstances...
Athalorn d20+15=30 ; d20+25=38 ; Thursday September 4th, 2008 2:00:27 AM
Athalorn looks around as he descends towards the hazy mist, trying to discern if the phenomenon is anything natural (knowledge nature 30). He peers more closely through the haze to the ground of the valley to see if anything else can be seen (spot 38)
Falin d20+19=20 ; Thursday September 4th, 2008 10:20:28 AM
Looking down Falin sees the brown haze. "It doesn't look like smoke from fire. I wonder what it is from?" Falin scans the area and apparently his cloak flaps around and gets caught in his face becasue he rolls a natural 1.
Lian Thursday September 4th, 2008 4:35:04 PM
"I can't really remember being here, but that haze does look mighty odd. Doesn't smell too bad though." He says, drifting down into it.
Hazey about the haze Thursday September 4th, 2008 5:04:41 PM
So, the Emeralds slowly lower themselves through the haze. You feel fine, nothing odd about it in the least. However, it does have a slightly woody, peaty odor, with a touch of ozone. As you descend, it grows gradually warmer and coming out of the haze, the thick green fields reveal themselves. It is still as lush as everyone remembers. The air is not humid and the ground is dry.
Athalorn senses that there may have been heavy storm activity recently that quickly disappated.
Ingrge feels the after effects of electricity but isn't sure that he could call it magical or even arcane, until his eyes refocus as he concentrates. There is a lingering (but fading fast) faint aura of transmutation.
Gunther sees nothing odd with the kitty and can see she is fine. But this haze... Gunther, WIS check for more...
Knara, the mere fact that you see nothing is distressing enough, but you see nothing magically odd about any of this, but there are several spells capable of producing this affect.
Lian sees nothing strange at all.
Aeralia is oddly quiet.
Even with Falin's face full of cloak, he does realize that it DOES smell like fire, not a forest fire, because those would be obvious and saw no tiny plumes indicating stationary fires.
Falin Thursday September 4th, 2008 7:18:13 PM
Falin sniffs the air, "Anyone bring something good to roast?" As they pass through the the lush of the valley is obvious Falin smiles. "You know I always like the forest, but wide open spaces of the halfling valleys always seem just as peacefull."
Falin continues down until he is safely on the ground.
Brother Bertram d20+8=13 ; d20+6=26 ; Thursday September 4th, 2008 8:54:47 PM
Bertram moves along with the others trying to identify the strange haze.

K'Nara Thursday September 4th, 2008 11:30:46 PM
K'Nara, feeling that magic detection isn't her strong suit, decides to ask Ingrge if he doesn't believe that there's something odd about the haze over the valley..?
Gunther d20+1=15 ; Thursday September 4th, 2008 11:59:39 PM
Smiling now that he's back with his companion, Gunther idly strokes her coat as he contemplates the haze. There's something vagues familiar in an unfamiliar way.... (Wis.=15)
Athalorn Friday September 5th, 2008 2:11:13 AM
Athalorn lands, having thoroughly enjoyed the ride with his friends. "So where are we heading?"
Lian Friday September 5th, 2008 2:41:08 PM
Looking over at Athalorn and responds. "Well, I might be mistaken, but that little town we saw not too far from here, in that direction, may be what we are seeking." He points.
Where to go Friday September 5th, 2008 6:09:03 PM
There is a village about a quarter mile north of your position. It is green and lush where you landed and the haze is lingering, but nothing more.
Falin Friday September 5th, 2008 6:24:28 PM
Falin licks his finger and sticks it in the air to check the wind, "Ah," he says. "We should move in that directions towards the village." Falin smiles at everyone as he begins to move.

K'Nara Friday September 5th, 2008 10:28:01 PM
K'Nara smiles as she notes the village nearby.
"This should be a nice change of pace for everyone," she points out. The blade singer is looking forward to meeting new people and learning more about the Wold.
Gunther d20+1=20 Sunday September 7th, 2008 2:47:40 PM
Gunther scratches his head and suddenly chimes in. "Hey vait...I remember someting... Ven ve vere at de castle, I saw some clouds dis vay. Maybe dat has someting to do vith dis haze?!" The warrior racks his diminutive mental faculties trying to figure out how the haze and clouds might fit in together, but the process is much like watching an ant try to carry a marble...humorous, but more than likely ultimately futile. Just before coming to rest on the ground a few carts can be seen in the distance drawing nigh to the city ahead, approaching the bridge over the river adjacent the city walls. On this side of the river near the city is a stand of trees - mixed varieties.
The party settles softly to the ground a half mile south of the city. Off to the left some 250 yards away and surrounded by wheat is a small copse of evergreens.
This is lush farmland - barley grows to the right, and it looks like an orchard (some sort of nut trees?) bounds the barley several hundred yards away, and other crops - grains, mostly, though about a third of the land lies fallow. You see a few more scattered orchards about the area. A river flows along the south walls of the city.
A dog barks in the distance.
As you take in your surroundings, a fellow emerges from the copse of evergreens, disappearing behind the standing wheat as he apparently walks a diagonal path toward the road heading north. He is not very tall, yet - before he disappeared from sight - appeared to walk with purpose.
The party stands mainly on the cart-rutted road, with some in the grain to either side. A flight of swallows pursue each other ahead and to the right.
The haze finally dissipates in the air above.
Thanks Kim ~ Jay
Lian Monday September 8th, 2008 12:32:39 PM
"Quite nice."
DM Post Monday September 8th, 2008 12:36:00 PM
OOC: DM POST around 3pm PST
Athalorn Monday September 8th, 2008 1:02:15 PM
Athalorn looks around at the environment in which they have landed. he breathes in the air deeply, getting a feel for the place and finding the valley to be most pleasant indeed. The rolling fields and swaying crops differ from the great Culverwood, but are all to his liking.
"Hmm not bad at all. Does anyone know this land well?"
Glannath, too, enthralled by the journey in which these mammals flew at his wing afore a strange breeze, takes flight further upwards to look at this new place, enjoying the warm currents on his wings.
Falin Monday September 8th, 2008 2:35:39 PM
With the haze burning off Falin looks up at the sun and smiles, taking in a deep breath. "Ah, the smell of grass and rich soil is always refreshing."
"I saw we head towards the city or we could check in with that guy over there walking through the field."
Gunther Monday September 8th, 2008 10:14:12 PM
Gunther looks around edgily, not exactly sure what to expect of the halflings. Milo wasn't all that bad, so he hopes and prays that they're not as uppity as elves. Keeping Delilah close to him, Gunther nudges K'nara. "Do you tink dat fellow dat vent over dere can help us?"
K'Nara Monday September 8th, 2008 11:09:24 PM OOC to her fellow players: Real Life has been pummeling me severely about the head and shoulders--WHY are the EDs visiting this valley? Some festival or something, right..? Gah!
"Sounds like a great idea, Gunther." K'Nara is immediately amicable to the beast trainer's suggestion. "Why don't we go over and ask the guy..?" The tall redhead starts striding towards the person the group had just seen.
Donna, you were invited to the induction of the new Burgomeister, or mayor, and there may be another motive for bringing you here too, but the letter didn't go into detail. :) ~ Dm Jay
Lian Tuesday September 9th, 2008 12:00:10 PM
The hand of Domi turns to Aeri. "Nice place to live, don't you think?"
DM POST Tuesday September 9th, 2008 12:01:59 PM
OOC: Sorry about lack of DM post yesterday. I got busy then fell asleep. :) WILL POST AROUND 3PM!~ Please be clear with your actions. We should be moving along quite fast from here on in, promise.
Athalorn Tuesday September 9th, 2008 12:40:21 PM
Athalorn agrees with K'Nara and heads over to where the man was last seen.
Aeralia Tuesday September 9th, 2008 12:53:30 PM
Aeralia brushes back her hair and adjusts her skirt as she completes the slow shift from the gaseous form of their travel. The sorceress smiles at Lian as he questions. "Yes, its very nice. It looks like it'd be a wonderful place to raise a family," she muses, looking over the lush fields and green valley.
Her greenish brown eyes follow the short man briefly, until he disappears behind the tall wheat. "The letter really never said anything about where we were supposed to be, so asking is likely a good idea," the young troubadour agrees, as K'Nara begins to stride after the short man.
The youthful woman falls in stride behind the Emerald's leader, with a light and feminine step.
Larks and trout(DM POST) Tuesday September 9th, 2008 6:20:51 PM
As the Emeralds fall into step beside K'Nara, they move through lush grasses, making larks take flight into the now blue wispy sky. The bridge is just in front of you, river flows under it, strong and smooth. The last few fish are struggling up it.
You begin to cross the bridge. "You Dragons certainly know how to make an entrance. You are the only dragons I know who have ever been on time," says a friendly voice just behind you.
Brother Bertram Tuesday September 9th, 2008 6:24:50 PM
Bertram spins quickly reaching for his axe, having heard no one come up behind them.
K'Nara Tuesday September 9th, 2008 10:00:55 PM
K'Nara turns around, a smile on her face and curiosity lighting her hazel eyes.
"Glad you've noticed!" she quips in a jaunty tone, looking around for the speaker. "And whom might you be..?"
Athalorn Wednesday September 10th, 2008 2:04:36 AM
Athalorn turns, allowing their leader to take....well, the lead. Glannath swoops lower, circling quickly, down to the party.
Lian Wednesday September 10th, 2008 11:34:45 AM
He swings around, ready for anything.
Brilliant blue Wednesday September 10th, 2008 11:48:15 AM
It's a rather plain, well kept looking halfling, with striking blue eyes that glitter like sapphires. He looks like he might be the fellow leaving that copse of trees just moments ago...
He glances at Bertram, grinning sweetly. "Oy, master dwarf, were you going to plant that in my pretty ginger head?" If he didn't look completely unconcerned about the axe, it might be embarrassing.
The halfling doesn't even react to Lian's posing, but manages to spare a glance at Aeralia.
Athalorn gets the suspicion Glannath hadn't seen the halfling until he was right on top of you.
He turns to K'Nara. "That's not really important. I'll show you to the manor and then be off." He moves past you, across the bridge and begins up the road. "Come on." He seems curt but kind and completely honest. It's almost natural to want to follow him.
Athalorn Wednesday September 10th, 2008 12:57:54 PM
Athalorn follows on foot for now, but calls to Glannath to follow above. Strange, this fellow, that none of the Dragons saw him approach. He stays quiet, but alert.
Brother Bertram Wednesday September 10th, 2008 3:52:26 PM
Bertram puts his axe away, embarrassed at his reaction, but grinning at the halflings words. "Only if you turned out to be a monster of legend dripping with gore, Master Halfling." He starts following along.
Falin Wednesday September 10th, 2008 3:55:42 PM
Falin smiles at the exchange, but is a little concerned that no one heard him or approach or detected his presence. He falls in behind everyone else and makes his way to the manor.
K'Nara Wednesday September 10th, 2008 4:08:08 PM
"Nonsense!" K'Nara disagrees with their otherwise-agreeable guide. "Everyone in the Wold is important in some way...I'd still like to know whom you are." However, even as she makes her request a second time, she follows the halfling along with the rest of the group.
Ingrge: AC 28, HP102/102, stoneskin 70/70, SR 18, freedom of movement, Bull's strength Wednesday September 10th, 2008 7:46:09 PM
Ingrge chuckles at the interaction between Bertram and the Halfling. "So Brother Bertram, I realize it has been at least a few hours since you got to make mince meat out of something, but a halfling, Even you wouldn't stoop so low as to carve one up and make it a quarterling, now would you.
Gunther, Charm Animal Thursday September 11th, 2008 12:31:13 AM
Gunther laughs loudly at Ingrge's comment. Though a little curious about the disappearing and then reappearing halfling, the cat trainer isn't particularly bothered by the event. His kitty, on the other hand, takes an instant dislike to the fellow...as cats are known to do when they fail to discover something obvious. With deep throated growl, the lion watches the halfling as she follows along by her trainer.
Gunther gently pats the growling dire lion to settle her nerves and then activates his tattoo. It probably wouldn't go over too well to have one of the locals eaten by his kitty. The Noble races were a bit touchy about that kind of behavior, and Gunther was betting that halflings probably follow after their tradition.
Aeralia Thursday September 11th, 2008 12:14:03 PM
Aeralia smiles warmly to the small halfling, offering a small bow when she catches his glance. The sorceress follows quickly after the others in persuit of the halfling, finding no reason to mistrust their would-be guide as of yet.
The young woman offers a small giggle at Ingrge's joke, but quickly quiets herself.
"It would be a shame if you must leave so swiftly," Aeralia says to the halfling as they walk. "I'm sure you can find the time to stick around for a little while, couldn't you, my friend?" The sorceress smiles and offers a winning smile to their small guide, waiting hopefully for his answer.
Lian Thursday September 11th, 2008 1:31:23 PM
The elf looks at the halfling with curiousity but doesn't belive him to be a gore monster like Bertram implied. "So, friend, where are you taking us? Or are you leading us into a trap?" He laughs lightly.
Walking and stopping Thursday September 11th, 2008 1:36:57 PM
The guide pauses mid-stride and to Lian. "My young friend, there would be no need for me to lead you anywhere when you are so willing to follow." His eyes glitter.
He gives Ingrge a piercing glare, almost a challenge, but then continues on as if nothing occurred.
The mysterious guide then turns and winks, with a wide toothy smile at Aeralia. "Oh, my dear lady, you do me service by asking. Alas, I can not join you. I have larger things to attend to."
He looks at K'Nara. "I'm sure you would." And he smiles.
Falin Thursday September 11th, 2008 2:55:22 PM
Listening to the halfling Falin says with a grin, "Now, master halfling, you can't be so vague when speaking with us. There are a lot of things larger than could be larger. It just depends on your point of view."
K'Nara d20=20 ; d20=10 ; Thursday September 11th, 2008 3:31:50 PM
Their would-be guide was engaging and witty, and not at all intimidated by the presence of her group, which K'Nara liked and appreciated. She keeps her tongue, however, mostly because she'd been taught long ago that having to push something (or, in this case, someone) not ready to be pushed doesn't yield good results.
She resolves to be as observant as possible, however. (OOC: I rolled two different checks for K'Nara...Spot--which resulted in a natural 20--and Listen--which is a 10.)
Brother Bertram Thursday September 11th, 2008 8:04:16 PM
Bertram chuckles, "Perhaps I would try, Friend Ingrge, but it is just as possible that this 'friendly' halfing would cut the legs out from under me. Im short enough, thank you."
Gunther, Charm Animal Friday September 12th, 2008 10:45:15 AM
Despite Gunther's spell and soothing actions, the dire lion continues to growl at the halfling. Her distaste of the fellow is obvious. Though she is not overtly aggressive, she continues to watch the halfling...tracking his every step. He may have fooled her once, but the disappearing trick isn't going to work again.
Gunther continues to try and sooth Delilah. He's curious about her reaction to the halfling...she's usually fairly aloof and distant about other humanoids. Shrugging he turns to K'nara and whispers. "Do you tink it's rude to ask halflings about dere names? Maybe dey tink dat spirits vill come and posses dem if dey tell you your real name." Not one for ruminating, the warrior is more than a little confused by the halfling's obscure answers.
Aeralia d20+20=26 ; d20+24=43 ; Friday September 12th, 2008 11:11:04 AM
Aeralia returns the halfling's smile. "Well, we can all certainly relate to that, my friend," Aeralia says in response to halflings polite denial of Aeri's request. "You certainly don't need to tell us about a busy day, and it would be rude of us to assume any less of you." Aeralia continues to smiles warmly towards the small man, slightly frustrated by his cryptic behavior, but one couldn't tell by the genuine smile on her face. (Bluff check 43)
"Still, it would be a shame if we couldn't share a meal or at least a few stories, at some point," the sorceress continues. "Perhaps when things are a little less hectic, you might pay us a visit and give us a chance to get to know each other? I'm never one to turn down the chance to meet interesting people, and make new friends." Aeralia offers a sweet smile, and a slightly pleading look towards their guide, hoping he'd take her up on her offer at some point. (Diplomacy check:26)
Athalorn Friday September 12th, 2008 11:53:03 AM
Athalorn shares Gunther's reservations, and has little time for cryptic responses. He turns to his old friend. "Gunther, perhaps I shall follow from above. This strange fellow is leading us somewhere unknown to me."
With that he changes quickly (free action) into an eagle, his powerful wings lifting him upwards to share the sky with Glannath. It had been a long time since the shifter flew with his aged companion, and the two birds swoop and circle together some way above the Dragons.
Lian Friday September 12th, 2008 12:03:33 PM
The monk follows, curious about this little man.
Mungo Hardbottle Friday September 12th, 2008 12:33:26 PM
The halfling stops and roars with laughter at Gunther's question. Holding his stomach and wiping tears from his round face, the halfling turns to Knara and Gunther, extending a hand. "Just for making me laugh so VERY hard master warrior, you will receive a gift... I am called Mungo Hardbottle." He dips into a bow. "You humans are very odd."
He looks at Aeralia. "Beautiful and shrewd. Great combination." He says, glancing at Lian with a smile. "Aw, I see that look. No worries friend elf, she's all yours."
He doesn't start when he witnesses Athalorn transform and take to the air. Yelling, "Yes, master eagle, be sure to scout on. The trap I am leading you all to is just ahead." He waves.
Ingrge finally gets a long good look at Mungo Hardbottle. Highlight to display spoiler: {He radiates a strong magical aura. Not from anything he wears, which is faint, but the halfling radiates.}
Gunther notices that his cat won't go near the halfling.
Town folk begin coming into view as the city grows in front of them. Several greet Hardbottle with enthusiasm and the Emeralds with friendly waves. Smells of cakes, breads and fruit pies drift past. Short halfling children run past with long banners and streamers displaying salutations and greetings to certain members of government, dignitaries and even one small green one for the Emeralds which thank them for attending on short notice. Kegs. Crates. Tables. Everywhere, something is being hauled, lifted, hoisted or carried. "They put off very fine, as always." Smiles Mungo. "Fashionably untidy to by the looks." He glances at one banner with Mop's name mispelled and dumped into a bin nearby. "Oh well, they'll be ready soon enough. The ceremony is in about 5 hours."
"Well, I do have to leave you, but if you wait at the Dozey Donkey Tavern, or whatever its called this week. Over there. Kendry will be with you shortly. He's your attache."
Falin Friday September 12th, 2008 2:49:38 PM
"I don't think I will ever be used to this being famous thing," says Falin shaking his head. "Our attache. You know, somethimes I wish we were just normal adventurers again, just being able to rest from time to time."
Falin looks over to where this place should be and heads in that direction. "I will buy the first round."
Brother Bertram Saturday September 13th, 2008 7:32:12 AM
Bertram snorts at Falin's words, "Friend Falin that is the one thing that this 'famous thing' has granted us. You are now able to buy the first round, And I for one will be happy to take you up on it, but a few years ago we would not have been able to scrape together enough coppers to buy a pint."
Lian Saturday September 13th, 2008 10:58:46 AM
"I'll take several rounds at this party I think." Snickers the elf.
Gunther, Charm Animal Saturday September 13th, 2008 9:16:45 PM
Gunther is startled by the halfling's outburst, and even more confused about the comment about humans. He looks over his shoulder at K'nara and murmurs "I I tink he's talking about you..." Still, confused as he is, Gunther smiles. "Errrr, ummmm...ok Mr. Hardbottle. Ve hope to see you again soon." Gunther looks around at the other Dragons. "Anybody heard of dis Kendry person?"
Ingrge: AC 28, HP102/102, stoneskin 70/70, SR 18, freedom of movement, Bull's strength Sunday September 14th, 2008 12:04:08 PM
Using the rings Ingrge makes a quick comment to K'nara and the others. "Hey all our little friend here actually is radiating a good amount of magic, from himself, not things."
Lian Monday September 15th, 2008 11:42:50 AM
Responding to Ingrge in the thing. "What could it mean? A maigical guise? A magical being? What?"

OOC: Will Dm Post after my assistant does. Kim?
Kendry (Kim) Monday September 15th, 2008 7:33:34 PM
Out of the Dozey Donkey comes a halfling with wavy auburn hair. Over his shoulder the fellow hollers back into the tavern, "No, the green ones. Green."
He then turns and looks up at the adventurers gathered outside. "Ah! You're here. Well Come." He pronounces the two words distinctly.
Although in possession of a well-proportioned symmetrical face, a slight gap is evident between his two front teeth.
"My name is Kendry. Kendry Leafwin Pipewood. Our family home is in Humble's Ford, but we have a shop here in Angel Springs - Winwood Toys and Music.
"I've been asked to show you around, answer what questions I can, and help you get settled a bit.
"But before I rattle on, I must ask. You are the Emerald Dragons, no? Are you not K'Nara Illutu?" he asks her. "Say, you look like you could be one of my sisters. Except, bigger."
K'Nara Tuesday September 16th, 2008 12:36:21 AM
K'Nara can't help but grin at Kendry's comments.
"Well met, Kendry," the tall chestnut-maned woman replies, executing a bow of elven intricacy. "I am, indeed, K'Nara...and these are my companions of the Emerald Dragons: Ingrge, Brother Bertram, Lian, Aeralia, Falin and--last but certainly NOT least--Gunther." As she speaks, the leader of the EDs indicates each person.
"If you please, Kendry," K'Nara goes on, "Would you introduce us to the guide who led us here...the one with the ginger hair and the most amazing blue eyes I've ever seen...? He's been quite mysterious and refused to identify himself."
Athalorn Tuesday September 16th, 2008 2:00:48 AM
Above the party Athalorn swoops low, mildly concerned by his 'leader's' apparent forgetfulness. And this was not, in fact, the first time she had ignored his presence in the group. He swoops low to land on Gunther's shoulder, knowing his friend would not mind.
Glannath stays high in the air, enjoying the warm air of this place.
Gunther, Charm Animal Tuesday September 16th, 2008 8:40:03 AM
The warrior gently nudges K'nara. "Ummm K'nara, his name vas Mungo Hardbottom...remember...he thought I vas funny."
Gunther gives a nod as he is introduced and does his best smile, though after Mungo, he's beginning to feel a little apprehensive about halflings. His dire lion Delilah also still seems on edge and stares at the halfling, unwilling to let this one disappear on her.
As Athalorn settles on his shoulder, Gunther grins. "Don't forget Athalorn!" he murmurs to K'nara. Noticing a bit more heft to the eagle, Gunther whispers over his shoulder. "You're going to have to start cutting down...castle life has been too goot for you."
Lian Tuesday September 16th, 2008 5:24:21 PM
The hand of Domi extends his hand to the halfling and says, "I believe we've met. Though, admittedly, halflings look remarkably alike. Forgive me if that was rude." He smiles. "But, yes, of course. You were the one who enjoyed using bags of alchemical toys as defensive weapons." He laughs out. "I think thats genius." He sees the confusion on some of his friends face's. "I believe Kendry and I traveled together for a very short time several years ago... nearly the same time I met you all. You know, Year of Acension. Hard times. Kendry can't be too common of a name, even among halflings. I would assume breeding like rabbits, your peoples might have a hard time finding unique names and might have to resort to... recycling." The elf then shuts up, awkward silence follows.
"Knara, he introduced himself. He is called Mungo Hard... hard something. Bottle I believe."
Dozey and Donkeys (DM post) Tuesday September 16th, 2008 5:30:27 PM
The tavern is large but quaint and smells strongly of spirits and hay. The sign has the silouette of a donkey leaning against a fence, clearly having trouble standing. You get the strong impression that the building may have once been, or is still, a barn or storehouse.
The city is full of motion and noise. Halflings move around you, obviously the tallest on the street at this time, its hard to be missed. You are still getting cheers, waves and even the occasional invite to a private residence for dinner and even breakfast.
Kendry (Kim) d20=17 d20=10 d20=17 d20=9 d20=2 d20=11 d20=19 d20=8 d20=6 Tuesday September 16th, 2008 9:18:32 PM Pleasantries and introductions Kendry responds to each person named, saying the name of the person - however K'Nara pronounced it, and asking the individual if he is saying his or her name correctly - amending the pronunciation as appropriate. With some he shakes hands, with others he gives a little bow or friendly nod of the head. He gives full attention to each one in turn.
Then he excuses himself for a moment, holding up a hand to indicate that folks should remain there for a moment. He dashes back in to the Dozey Donkey. In less than a minute he is back outside with a large fresh salmon - looks to weigh about half of what the halfling himself weighs. He approaches Gunther, but keeps a bit of distance out of prudence. "Does your, um, lioness enjoy fish?" he inquires. If there is no objection - he holds forth the fish in Delilah's direction - gingerly, cautiously - allowing her to sniff at it, if she will. If it holds her interest, he gives it to her, or lays it upon the ground and steps back, depending on how he reads her.
Next he pulls from his back pocket a trout - looks like a four pounder. "Athalorn, fine eagle that you are - is trout to your liking? My love longs to find an eagle one day who will be a friend to her - she is a druid, you see."
Addressing the group's questions about the halfling they met earlier, Kendry says, "Yes, Mungo. He's back in town, eh? Met him while on the trail of one of Eberyon's avatars some while back. Seems like a kindly, knowledgeable fellow when first you meet him. And he is both. Has a wealth of wisdom, a good book store here in town, and an occasional surprise up his sleeve. He helped reform a fellow whose mind was twisted by having been raised by orcs. That fellow now works for him. Like night to day he turned him. Morphth."
When Lian talks about having adventured together, his eyes open wide for a moment. "Back to the early times, you mean? With the ancients, now ascended? Oh, yes. Lian, that I remember. I wrote a journal of that, but have shown it only to a few." He gives his former traveling companion an embrace, and he says quietly to him, "A pleasure, Lian, to see you again." Then stepping back, he adds, "Recalling that time brings much to mind."
Then, answering K'Nara's earlier query a bit more fully. "Hardbottle's Books is only about five or so doors down from this tavern," he tells her, pointing off to his left, further down the street than they have yet gone. "It's open at odd hours, and closed more often than not."
Down to the attaché business Then he takes a step back. "But, please forgive me for leaving you out on the street. Please come within - all of you - yes, animals are welcome, too, and let me pass on to you a brief message from our own newly appointed Burgomeister, Buffo D'oro Twigrumpler. He sends his regrets he cannot meet you in person, but in due course he will be pleased, as he said, to have the honor to meet you all face to face. Come, now, please."
Kendry steps inside the Dozey Donkey, "Make way. Make way for the Emerald Dragons. All show your respect. And mind you don't touch the lion."
People - mostly halflings - but for a half elf woman with a patch over her left eye and a few sheathed daggers who sits at one table - scatter, allowing width berth.
Kendry leads the way in about thirty feet, then to the right, through an archway, and into a good sized banqueting hall. Some of the halfling tables have been converted to bigger-sized people's benches.
Aeralia Tuesday September 16th, 2008 11:58:50 PM
Aeralia smiles warmly as Kendry greets her, offering a flourished courtsy in return to his small bow. "Certainly a pleasure to meet you, good sir," the sorceress adds, continuing to beam pleasantly at those around.
As the Dragons are lead through the small city, Aeralia greets and returns waves to those she sees, specifically trying to acknowledge any children that might be in the crowds. Once lead through the Dozey Donkey, the sorceress will take the seat designated for her, remaining quiet.
In the Dozey Donkey's banqueting hall (Kim) d20=11 d20=1 d20=15 d6=4 d20=19 Wednesday September 17th, 2008 2:19:52 AM
Banqueting Room
Once all are settled in the banqueting room, hors d'œuvre are brought to the tables in a fairly efficient manner, except for when one young halfling, staring in awe at the astonishing pulchritude of Aeralia, trips, scattering snacks across the floor. Two others quickly pick up the compromised food, and the fallen lad picks himself up, blushing furiously, and hastens himself toward the exit. Nevertheless, daring one final backward glance at the lady, he runs into the left doorpost, and knocks himself out. Other diminutive folk help carry him out.
Scenes of donkeys, mules and ponies hang on framed paintings arrayed around the room, with a bas relief of a dozing donkey just over the doorway, and of the hind end of a kicking donkey on the far end of the room.
The multiplicity of snacks are arrayed, along with pitchers of beer, bottles of mead and wine, and a few barrels marked "Puer Ranewater," "Fresh Appel Sider," and "Proon Joose." Kendry clears his throat, says to the servers, "You may close the doors behind you," and stands up on his seat that he may be seen.
"If you have any concerns for privacy, I have no objections to your taking reasonable precautions. I have learned that discretion is a useful virtue at times, as well as is frank talk among good folk.
He waits for a moment to see if any do wish to take precautions, allowing time for that. "Now, may the gods of good will watch over us. Please, enjoy the snacks. More food will be coming soon." A few plates hold small round loaves of bread. He picks one up. "This is called 'bread surprise' - you never know what might be inside." He bites into it. "Ah. Fresh salmonberries!"
He gives people a few minutes to enjoy some refreshments.
Welcome, and...
After a bit, he taps on a tin plate with a spoon. "If I could again have your attention."
"Buffo D'oro Twigrumpler has been in office for half a fortnight. I don't know what you may have heard, but his predecessor, Calfast Rowgold Tunnelly, who, I believe served our valley with honor and a good heart, has been accused and convicted of misappropriating funds. Now, it may not do to gainsay a judge's decision, but I find it very difficult to believe that time and further consideration will uphold that judgment.
"Be that as it may, and for whatever reason, his honor, our new Burgomeister, has indicated he wishes to see to the welfare of the community - of Angel Springs our city, and the town of Humble's Ford, and the hamlet called Hovel - and of all of Crescent Valley. As Burgomeister Calfast wished for the development of, uh, 'homegrown' adventurers - and worked with us to ensure that a training branch of the Woldian League of Adventurers be established here," and here the speaker holds for display a WLA pin attached to his tunic, "our new Burgomeister believes that, with the new change in government, it might be well to have some 'outside' adventurers available to help ensure safety from possible threats which can arise during such a time of transition.
"Now, we have many good folk here in our valley. But not all are pure of heart or noble in purpose. I know not what tricks some may try. Now, as well, word has come of some oddities occurring in the northwest area of the valley. The Burgomeister likely will be privy to more information than I have at the moment. But I wish to state that it pleases me, it pleases us, to have such experienced and august adventurers here in our midst at such a time as this.
"It may be that all will be well. And I do not wish to alarm you needlessly. Just know, and here I do speak for others, though not for all - we are very happy to have you here with us.
"In a moment more food will be brought. I have been asked to show you about town, and to answer any questions I might, and to do what I can to make your stay here as comfortable as you would like. Or, if you prefer discomfort," he adds with a wry smile, "we can make a bed or two lumpy."
"Oh - one last thing. Please know that we do not wish to presume upon you - though my words may sound presumptuous. If you must leave, or do not choose to remain, you are under no constraint. You are here as honored guests - whose presence and counsel we value."
If you did not know better, the way this fellow talks, you might think that either he is a bard, or somehow or other he is paid by the word. Kendry lets you know that once the meal is over, he can show you around the town. He suggests the brick clocktower would be a good place to start.
Also, after drinking some apple cider, he pulls out some parchments. He passes around a map of Crescent Valley, and a map of Angel Springs.
Athalorn Wednesday September 17th, 2008 2:26:26 AM
Perched on Gunther's shoulder, Athalorn cocks his head to one side at the offer of the fish. He then screeches, and Glannath swoops low suddenly, snatches the fish and soars upwards to perch on the side of the building. There he stays, swallowing the meal and watching the busy paths below.
Athalorn jumps from Gunther's shoulders, changing in mid air back into his increasingly rare human form. He runs a hand through his thick, streaked and tangled hair. "Kendry, my friend thanks you for the fish. I would prefer a good drink. And the Culverwood has a few eagles that may like to work with a druid of these lands. Glannath has relatives there I am sure. Perhaps i could speak with your dear wife sometime" He smiles.
He steps through the door, following the others, noting the half elf sitting in the room as they pass and feeling largely uncomfortable at the attention they receive. Once seated, he whispers to Gunther.
"Gunther my old friend. I am in fine form! overweight indeed. Ha!" He laughs, giving the warrior a punch on the arm.
------------
Listening carefully to their hosts words, the Shifter tries to take it all in. As the tale is told, he drinks some of the beer that has been provided, and takes small snacks form the dishes. When Kendry has finished, he looks up. "The northeast. We should start there? And we are happy to help good people such as yourselves." He blushes, unused to speaking for the party, and takes a huge gulp from his beer to cool his embarrassment.
Falin Wednesday September 17th, 2008 9:42:06 AM
Falin enters the establishment and smiles. He did enjoy seeing new places and this we new to him. He was a little uncomforable by the attention, but gets over it as he is shown to a table. He looks around the room and seats himself so he can keep an eye on the half-elf. He asks for a glass of wine and begins to get some bread and cheese to fill his belly.
Listening to the talk of what is happening. He can't help but notice how vague everything sounds. "Kendry, young adventurer in training," He says noting the WLA pin, "It is good to see you and your fellow halflings taking a vested interest in the protection and safekeeping of your lands." Falin smiles, "Some day there will no longer be a need for those such as us."
He nods when Athalorn speaks up.
Lian Wednesday September 17th, 2008 5:11:51 PM
Lian eats well and enjoys a full meal for once. He listens and raises an eyebrow as appropriate. "Kendry, The former Burgomeister stole money? From where? Where did it go? Was it accounted for?"
"Wasn't the ceremony suppose to start soon? Did they push back the ceremony to tomorrow morning for some reason?"

OOC: Did anyone need a map sent to them of the CV or Angel Springs?
Ingrge: AC 28, HP102/102, stoneskin 70/70, SR 18, freedom of movement, Bull's strength Wednesday September 17th, 2008 5:54:38 PM
Ingrge makes his way through town following and listening to Kendry as he goes. Listening to the young halfling brings a smile to his face as he remembered another halfling he had met from this area though perhaps a bit furhter to the east in Windhorne Hamlet. As Kendy suddenly shows back up with first the salmon and then the trout, Ingrge can't help but laugh and then turn to the young halfling.
"Kendry my fine friend, You would not happen to be related to a halfling named Bill Troublefinder now would you? He once had an unusual Trout that would occsionally show up out of nowhere and follow him around."
Gunther, Charm Animal Thursday September 18th, 2008 12:46:29 AM
The warrior smiles as Kendry presents his present to Delilah. The dire lion is apparently pleased by the gift. In true feline style, she takes the fish from the halfling and sniffs it sufficiently. Then she sets about slowly and deliberately consuming the fish while giving Kendry the briefest look of gratitude.
As Kendry speaks Gunther listens attentively and seems quite comfortable in his new surroundings, until the halfing makes an off hand comment about orcs. Visibly stiffening, the warrior looks Kendry full in the face. "Vatch your tongue. Dere is noting wrong vith being raised by orcs." Then he adds in spotless orcish "Nicht alle orcs sind verursachtes Gleichgestelltes." Highlight to display spoiler: { "Not all orcs are created equal."}

Kendry is surprised by the other eagle swooping down for the proffered trout, but lets Glannath take the fish from his hands.
As the Athalorn eagle changes to the man, Kendry takes a step back. Then he claps his hands together. "Delightful! My aunt Nilli can do that, too!
"As for my dear wife - my prayer is that she some day shall be so - for already is she dear. But magic, and persecutors, and dark prophecies led to our separation the day we became engaged. She travels now with dark elves - but ones of a good bent." He looks to the ground for a moment and says quietly, "I pray for Airin daily."
Kendry is pleased that Delilah enjoys the fish - and dips his head as she glances his way.
He does not answer Gunther immediately concerning the matter of orcish child-rearing, other than to nod his head.
"Bill Troublefinder?" he responds to Ingrge. "Well, yes, I met him in Plateau City. He was helping out at the WLA when we first joined up. He can read minds, y'know. Sometimes, at least. He never mentioned trout, though. Now, we have some Trufflefinder ancestors, and some say that the Troublefinders are a branch off of the Trufflefinder clan. Oh - and the Catacombs sell some pants they say he invented."
Falin finds it a challenge to keep his eye on the half elf, as she is in the common room the group passed through, but not in this separate banquet hall.
"Thank you, Falin. Yet, though among us come some worthies to defend our lands, and to explore the Wold, I venture that there will always be a need for those such as you. At least, until the end of the Wold, should that time come. I believe each of us has a purpose."
When Athalorn indicates the group's willingness to help, the halfling appears pleased. "Er, well, perhaps the northeast would be a place to start. That is fairly close to us. Did I say northeast, though, earlier? If so, I meant northwest. Not too far from Hovel."
Kendry Leafwin Pipewood answers Lian, "It is claimed he took funds that were reserved for the care of orphans. Knowing his honor, though, I find those claims preposterous. Nonetheless, many in our valley did not like his support of adventurers and the WLA. 'We don't need such in these parts,'" he says, dropping into a rural drawl. "'Our fathers and their fathers didn't need no 'venturers. We gots the towers what keeps dem giants out, we does. An' a frying pan and rocks is good enuf to handle any wot try to come 'gainst us. Don't need no shiny armor, no pointy swords.'"
Switching back to his normal voice, he continues. "So he found his share of opposition from two main groups - the staunch traditionalists, and those who gained from corruption. So both groups gained when - however they worked it - he was convicted of embezzlement. 'Durned hippo crite,'" he says the latter in the rural accent. "'Serves 'im right, tellin' others in gov'mint t'be satisfied with their pay - and not satisfied hisself. An' of all things, stealin' from the littl' 'uns wiffout pa nor ma.'"
Kendry sighs. "Regardless, that's water under the bridge for the moment." He does not give as full an explanation as Lian may be seeking for now.
"The ceremony will start in a few hours, yes. I can show you some rooms reserved for you upstairs, show you around town, introduce you to our new Burgomeister, then get you to the ceremony. If you prefer something else, please let me know."
A rotund, puffy-cheeked man enters the room as one of the waitresses opens the door for him. He bustles over to where Kendry sits, and hands him a note. Kendry reads it, nods.
"Your rooms are ready. Porko, here, will show them to you. I'll wait here below, unless you want me to accompany you."
An aside with Gunther
If Kendry can get Gunther off to the side, he tells him, "I do watch my words. I do not know you, and intended no offense, good man.
"Orcs killed my cousin. The orcs who raised Morphth killed all his family save him. He learned from them cruelty, savagery and brutal revenge. I make no claim that all orcs are bad. Among my good friends are an ogre and a goblin - both have good hearts.
"Each of us, wherever and by whomever we are raised, is responsible for our own deeds. So I'll not gainsay your assertion. But a question for you, Gunther, if I may. Do you have children?"
He frames his next words appropriately to the man's answer to that question, but the gist is: "If you have children, will you commend them to the tender mercies of that race?"
He awaits Gunther's answer with openness and sincerity, genuinely interested in the man's response - and hoping he doesn't ask Delilah to swallow him up for his impertinence.
Accommodations
The rooms are lovely, with frilly curtains, glass oil lanterns, shuttered windows, a vase of fresh-cut flowers in the corner, and a washbasin, pitchers of water, and half a dozen towels in each room. A plate of bread surprises sits atop a dresser. The beds appear to be made up of several halfling-sized beds placed side by side to make for large enough sleeping places. Several down blankets are sewn together to make a bed cover for each bed assembly. Each room holds two people. There are two toilets at one end of the hall.
Tour
When all are ready, Kendry hands out a few more maps, similar to the one he passed out earlier of Angels Springs. He then leads the group through the town, showing them some of the main sights. [Feel free to look at the map at the link in the DM post above, and ask for information or clarification if you please.]
Once the whirlwind tour concludes, Kendry says, "I can take you to meet our new Burgomeister. Any questions before we go meet him?"
Falin Thursday September 18th, 2008 12:35:10 PM
Falin follows up the room and is happy with the accomodations. "After the things I had to endure going undercover in Osto this is a 4 star inn." Falin says to no one in particular. He takes a quick inventory and tries to decide what to leave. He looks at the other Talons and says, "I am always warry about leaving my weapons, even when we go to formal events becasue it seems like we attract bad guys. Is anyone going to leave anything behind?"
He decides to keep everything with him.
Falin goes on the tour of the town and politely takes the maps and looks at them as they walk. "You have a very beautiful town here, Kendry." Falin says.
Athalorn Thursday September 18th, 2008 1:13:21 PM
Athalorn is pleased with the accommodation, even though he has the same distaste for staying indoors that all druids seemingly do. But this was a comfortable place without being grand, cosy without being stifling, and for these things the shifter is grateful.
------------
Athalorn joins Falin and the others as they tour the town, letting the open air and the bustle of the city help him relax, keeping mental note of the main areas and watching Glannath continue to circle overhead. When it comes to the end, and they are ushered towards the Burgomeister, Athalorn shakes his head. "No questions Kendry, my friend. Lead on."
Lian Thursday September 18th, 2008 4:40:05 PM
"You are a trove of information Kendry, thank you."
Heading off to meditations, Lian puts out the oil lamps (unacustomed to the odor) and pulls out an everburning candle or two instead.
