Slippery Shadows
Something Foul is Afoot

DM Donna
Thursday August 14th, 2008 2:09:13 AM

And so the Mithril Order marches triumphantly into the city they call home, with the late Count's box and their new acquaintance in tow.

The group is now free to go about the business at hand: baths and clean clothes and even visiting the Catacombs. Just let me know what you want to do.

Arm
Thursday August 14th, 2008 5:40:18 AM

After his bath and food at Samson's Arm says to Kadaz, "Would you like me to go with you? If not I can take our guest back to the manor and get him settled in.".

Thar
Thursday August 14th, 2008 9:41:36 AM

(DM Donna = Are you giving XP's out anytime soon for our adventure, now that we're at a "break point"?)

Thar goes offers to show their new companion where their manor is and of course, as the good cleric he is, takes the time to share his faith with Wynum. Once he's completed that task, he takes a nice warm bath and joins Arm and Kadaz (and whoever else is there) at dinner.

Once there, he says "Who feels like going to the Catacombs to get our stuff appraised? Shadow, do you have much experience with appraising jewels and gems, so we know what sort of value we expect?"

Wynum
Thursday August 14th, 2008 10:42:28 AM

Patiently, Wynum discusses with Thar about his own faith. Like the cleric, he does not seem to favor a deity in particular, but contrary to him, does not seem to harbour an ardent faith and the discussion mostly revolves around the issue of Eberyon's acceptance of Treants.

If he fits in the doors and rooms of the manor, Wynum gladly uses the bath area. Drawing his brush, he carefully rubs down his robe to be more presentable for a city such as this one.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)  d20+3=10 ;
Thursday August 14th, 2008 1:35:05 PM

"Let me take a closer look at those." Shadow asks. If whoever is carrying them lets him look at them he will try and take a good look in the good light of the Wold (instead of the Shadowlands weird light).

"I am not sure of their value, but if you want to wait I could really take some time and probably figure something out. Otherwise we could always let the Catacombs let us know, and yes I know that will cost us." Shadow says (after his miserable Appraise roll, lol).

After the baths and the meal at Sampson's Shadow will head to the Guild to see if the Nightmaster has any news for the Mithril Order.

Actions:
Appraise=10

Kadaz
Thursday August 14th, 2008 4:32:52 PM

Kadaz first cleans himself and Bridie up, then goes with the others to Sampson's. Once there he greets those he knows and settles in for a good meal.

As he waits for food he lifts his ale mug. "To Podo!" His second toast "And to all of our companions who are not with us today." This one is for Mira, he thinks.

Once the meal is over, he has a suggestion for Arm. "We've gotten a message to Rabbitsfoot before by way of the guard post. Want to come with me and try that again? He certainly knows where our home is and will probably meet us there."

Kirsten
Thursday August 14th, 2008 7:52:35 PM

( OOC: The video card in Shawn's laptop failed yesterday evening, so I am going to sub Edmund for him until he is able to get his internet up and running =3 )

Before dinner, Kirsten bathes and gets herself cleaned up. She takes a moment to care for her armor and her weapons, before heading over to Samson's to eat with the others. The paladin is rather light on her feet as she walks, relieved after the events of the past days.

She toasts Podo with the others, and promptly begins to devour her food.

Edmund (Sub: Ashley)
Thursday August 14th, 2008 7:54:03 PM

The moment they arrive at headquarters, Edmund devotes himself to a nice, hot, and very long bath.

"Good to be home!"

After his bath, he will make his way to Samson's for a hearty meal with his companions.

Julian (small size)
Thursday August 14th, 2008 8:42:30 PM

"To Podo."

Julian is sombre back in town. He quietly goes about cleaning and tidying and repairing. His badgers and dog seem to have picked up on his mood and sit together quietly in the corner, or meekly follow at his heels. He sits alone with his thoughts and memories of the dear little Podo.
"He would have said something about a window closing and a door opening at a time like this. Funny how the universe could take away someone so small, and replace him with one so large."

Arm
Friday August 15th, 2008 6:04:52 AM

Arm bows his head, both for the memory of Podo and his companions that have gone their own ways...funny that he hasn't had Mira in his thoughts lately. He's not sure if that is a good thing or not. At Kadaz' suggestion, he agrees, "Aye, let us leave a message for him and see if he can be of any further help to us.".

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Friday August 15th, 2008 10:32:12 AM

Shadow does the mundane things about getting his gear situated, cleaned and put away, and then joins the group at Sampsons for a nice hot meal. He will raise his glass to Podo and his other companions that are no longer present. He will finish the rest of the meal in his normal silence.

After the meal he follows his earlier plan and will head over to the Guild to talk to the Nightmaster to give his own report of the groups findings and see what has happened since he last reported in.

Wynum
Friday August 15th, 2008 2:04:55 PM

With clean mane and shiny hooves, Winym follows the party to Samson's, and toats (lightly), wondering whether Podo be a unknown deity of the mainland.

DM Donna
Saturday August 16th, 2008 12:40:22 AM

OOC: My apologies...I thought that DM Nellie had handed out the XP before having to go work on the next module--but I see that she didn't do that.

Every Mithril Order member (except the newly-arrived Wynum) gets 3500xp.

Arm
Monday August 18th, 2008 5:57:25 AM

Noticing Wynum's confusion at the mention of Podo's name, Arm fills him in on their recently-departed companion, including how he was possessed by the Count. While he is at it, he brings him up to speed, more or less, on their current situation: "Every time we uncover a snake, it seems to lead to another rock that we have to overturn.".

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Monday August 18th, 2008 10:16:18 AM

Hopefully Shadow learns something from the Guild, and then he will head back to the manor to turn in for the night. The long days have finally caught up to the rogue and he longs for his nice comfortable bed. His thoughts tell him he is getting soft, he can remember when he slept on the street.

Kadaz
Monday August 18th, 2008 7:20:11 PM

Kadaz and Arm leave the party and head off for the guard station. Along the way they talk about what has just happened. "I wonder what those glass crystals are worth?" he muses. "Who has them now, Arm. Is it Shadow?"

DM Donna
Monday August 18th, 2008 7:36:09 PM

The guards manning the post that Kadaz and Arm visit promise to pass on a message to Rabbitsfoot that the Mithril Order needs to see him urgently. They express the opinion that Rabbitsfoot is likely to respond quickly.

Dinner at Samson's is perfectly cooked.

DM OOC: Shadow will have to post exactly what it is that he reports to the Guild and ask exactly what questions he expects answers to in order for me to know how his contact in the Guild will respond.

Arm
Tuesday August 19th, 2008 5:55:29 AM

Arm shakes his head at his friend, "I'm not really sure. I believe he has them, but with all the recent goings on, I cannot remember. ". He sighs and continues, "I must be getting old," knowing full well that both he AND Kadaz are relatively youngsters.

Thar
Tuesday August 19th, 2008 9:41:51 AM

Thar joins in remembering Podo, though he had little time to become well acquainted with him. Once the meal is finished, he says "Since no one volutneered to take our goodies to the Catacombs, I'll go ahead and get them valued. Shadow, do you have them on your person and can I have them, in order to get them appraised?"

He adds, "However, I'd like someone to escort me, so we can watch each other's back. Ed, do you feel like taking a quick walk over to the Cat's?"

Wynum
Tuesday August 19th, 2008 11:10:46 AM

Following Thar towards the only place he knows in town, the Catacombs, Wynum takes a second just as they leave the tavern to point at its sign hanging over the door.
"Thar, I am in wonder. I am not familiar with accents of the peninsula. Do you not pronounce the 'P'?"

He listen absent-midedly to the answer, because he just noticed Vertigo's shop across the market place. Excusing himself, he sets towards it, with the firm intention of acquiring clothing more suitable for a city such as this one.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Tuesday August 19th, 2008 2:36:28 PM

Once at the Guild, Shadow will wait to the Nightmaster. Once he is escorted into to see the Nightmaster he will wait until he is alone with him. "Well it was a close one there, I almost did not make it back this time. We did make it to the Shadowlands, and found one of the heads of the snake but I am sure there are more here in the city. Have there been any more disturbances in the sewers or the alleys while we were gone?" Shadow does not expect any news, but he felt he needed to check in and let them know that he would be back just in case his talents were needed for the Guild.

News & Clues

DM OOC: Shadow is still conducting his business at the Guild headquarters and isn't available to answer Thar's question. However, now that you've reminded me...I need for all the PCs to roll a Spot check for me, please.

SHADOW: The Nightmaster looks at Shadow with penetrating dark eyes.

"As far as the Guild can tell," he replies, "There is nothing unusual in the...ah...nocturnal activities of the city. The only thing that seems to be out of the ordinary is that the politicians don't seem to be as noxious as usual." The Nightmaster chortles at his own joke.

"It sounds as though you have had quite the adventure, though," he goes on, "Tell me, did you...ah...acquire any items of interest to the Guild...?" The man's eyebrows raise inquiringly as he states his interest.

WYNUM: There is a hand-lettered sign on Vertigo's front door says "CLOSED DUE TO ILLNESS IN FAMILY".

EVERYONE ELSE: Samson's is running a special on hodgepodge pie & rum, and your server heartily recommends that you try it for dessert.

Julian (small size)
Wednesday August 20th, 2008 2:07:21 AM

OOC sorry I am really swamped with work

Julian will eat and drink, too much of each. However, this is a quiet and sombre evening for Julian is thinking of Podo and the other halflings. He retires to bed early.

Arm  d20+7=13 ;
Wednesday August 20th, 2008 6:03:10 AM

On the way back to Samsons, Arm idly glances around but is unable to see anything of interst, possibly due to recent events (spot=13).

Kadaz  d20+1=10 ;
Wednesday August 20th, 2008 6:45:08 AM

Kadaz walks through the dark streets of Plateau City, Birdie at his feet. He is lost in thought about what just happened, and his mind then wanders to previous adventures in the city and outside.

(spot 10)

Thar  d20+13=17 ;
Wednesday August 20th, 2008 9:35:44 AM

Thar continues eating at Sampsons and when he realizes Shadow is no where to be found, finishes his meal quickly. Once done, heads over to his parish and checks in with the head abbot, filling him in on their latest adventure and seeing if there are any messages or tasks that have come up while he was away.

Wynum  d20+6=22 ;
Wednesday August 20th, 2008 10:11:14 AM

Secretly relieved that he doesn't have to shop for barding once more (it never fits), Wynum heads back to the tavern. However, he spots the crowd around the temple and his curiosity is immediately aroused. He prepares to ask a shopkeeper about the temple but notices the symbols on it at once and while he is assaulted with goods and service, he tries to make his way through the stalls, as if hypnotized by Caeroldra's temple, but he dares not enter.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Wednesday August 20th, 2008 10:36:18 AM

"Well, since this was not really a Guild sponsered job, the group will split up what we did find. Although, there was nothing of true interest to the guild to start off with, I will be contributing my normal weekly contribution. Although, on the other hand we could forgo that for information about an empty lair of blood suckers that did not get searched thoroughly?" Shadow hints to the nightmaster.

Edmund
Wednesday August 20th, 2008 5:10:35 PM

((Got my computer back today. Good to be back.))

Edmund takes some time to study now that things have calmed down--at least for the moment. Knowing nothing of guilds or underworld dealings, he isn't much able to contribute. That's all right, though. Edmund is happy to use this as an excuse to visit the library. Repeatedly.

"Wish I could be of more help!" he says with a cheerily dismissive wave. "Oh well, let me know if you need any advice about dealing with magical crystals or portals to other dimensions!"

And with that, he is off to the library again.

((Note to DM: Edmund has gained a level. I will update the character sheet to reflect that this evening. Do you want me to e-mail you a copy of the file?))

Spot check for Shadow 22

DM Donna
Thursday August 21st, 2008 6:10:05 PM

Thar and Arm: Highlight to display spoiler: {--even as you discuss plans on what to do about the carved box and the delicately-wrought bottles within it, you notice that there is a pair of cloaked figures who have been watching your party since at least the time you entered Samson's. In fact, Arm is reasonably certain that one of the pair followed him from outside into the eatery. Although neither of you can tell if they are male or female, it's evident that they are dressed to "blend in", as the coloration of their cloaks, clothes and boots are shades of brown and gray. The pair are currently inhabiting a table in the farthest corner from where you are currently sitting.}

Wynum: Highlight to display spoiler: { as you clippety-clop down the cobblestone streets of the city, your unusually keen centaur senses pick up on the fact that somebody's been following your progress from the time that you left the others of the Mithril Order on through to your "ride by" visit to the temple of Caeroldra. A bipedal of indeterminate gender and dressed in brown and gray clothing is currently about sixty or so feet down the bustling street, moving about in order to continue to keep you in sight.}

Shadow: The Nightmaster carefully considers Shadow's proposition, then gives the guildmember a nod.

"Very well, then, I agree."

Shadow finds himself dismissed after he reveals the location of the vampire den in the Shadowlands. Upon emerging from the Guild headquarters, however, the rogue almost immediately gets the feeling that a mysterious figure in a brown and gray cloak is following him...

Arm  d20+7=19 ;
Friday August 22nd, 2008 5:58:03 AM

As Arm speaks to Thar, he lowers his voice so only he can hear, and says "I wonder what THEY are up to? Time for a little 'consultation', I think. I'll go first and draw them out. You and Kadaz follow. If they both don't follow me, split up with one of you following me. I'll pick an appropriate alley and then...".

He then makes a big show of leaving, shaking Thar's hand and leaving Samson's. He then wanders down the street a bit, stopping at various shop displays while trying to keep an eye on their pursuers (spot=19).

Kadaz
Friday August 22nd, 2008 7:22:05 AM

Kadaz looks around as Arm speaks. "Who is they, Arm? What's going on? We'll follow in a bit but who are we looking for?"

Wynum  d20-1=5 ; d20+6=8 ;
Friday August 22nd, 2008 11:41:22 AM

(OOC: Assuming I should post my actions here)
Cursing his luck to stand out so much in the crowd, and unsure about the situation, Wynum gives up his idea of going into the temple with a sigh, and goes back towards Vertigo's. However he continues towards the river banks and along through the large park bordering the river. There, he presses the pace, moving at his full hustle speed (80'), but not running, throught the trees, hoping to force the pursuer to either give up or reveal himself running.

Unless something happens, he continues up to the bridge leading to the Foreign Quarter and crosses it at a normal pace. He stands at the quarter's gate, trying to hide behind a corner [Hide: 5], and watches for his follower [Spot: 8].

Edmund
Friday August 22nd, 2008 12:11:01 PM

Edmund, having finished his studies, returns to Mithril Manor. He then sets about making an enormous pot of tea and a plate of raspberry tarts.

Thanks to Edmund's latest research forays, he has learned how to cast Scrying and Dispel Magic.

Thar
Saturday August 23rd, 2008 10:25:19 AM

Thar winks at Arm and Kadaz and says "Count me in. I saw them too and am curious about why they're following us."

After Arm leaves, Thar will wait a few minutes for their "shadows" to follow him. Once they get up and pursue Arm, he'll rise from the table and motions to Kadaz. Making it clear to everyone (a little loudly, to suggest he's had too much ale) that he is tired and needs to get home in time to say his prayers, he departs.

However, once he goes outside, his senses go on full alert. He does his best to follow the pair and ensures that he' and Kadaz are able to back up Arm.

DM Donna
Monday August 25th, 2008 2:09:55 AM

DM OOC: just waiting to see what Shadow decides to do...if anything.

Arm  d20+7=26 ;
Monday August 25th, 2008 6:03:23 AM

Arm continues to browse the shops on the street, keeping a constant sidelong eye on his pursuers (spot=26).

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Monday August 25th, 2008 1:01:25 PM

Shadow will move quickly back to Sampson's as hough he did not notice the figure following him. He will make sure that he makes enough turns that he can keep an eye out for the figure to see if he follows him. He wonders who it could be or what they want. Around one of he corners he will quickly palm his dagger and be prepared to defend himself if approached. If he makes it to Sampson's he will see if the rest of his group is here.

DM Donna
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 3:04:49 AM

Arm, Kadaz and Thar: Arm "stumbles" from Sampson's, artfully keeping up his guise of being less than sober...however only one of the cloaked figures actually leaves the eatery to follow him. DM OOc: I'll need to know whether it is Kadaz or Thar that follows the follower.

Wynum: The clever centaur enacts his ploy but, when he looks around at the bridge, he sees nobody in pursuit of him...the only other person in the area is an old human woman muttering to herself as she roots through a trash bin at the side of the street.

Shadow: The rogue easily confirms that he is, indeed, being followed...all the way to the restaurant. However, he isn't overtaken, captured or confronted at all by the mysterious cloaked person.

Arm
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 6:00:46 AM

Arm makes a show of swooning a bit, and leans against a nearby wall for a moment, closing his eyes to mere slits as he continues to keep an eye on the cloaked figure.

Thar  d20+13=27 ;
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 9:19:26 AM

Thar, humming contentedly along, will follow the follower. He'll do his best to remain nonchalant, puttering along, playing with his cross, singing hymns, etc.... He's not necessarily trying to hide and instead, doesn't want his prey to realize he's being stalked. Instead, Thar is just a cleric walking through the city, likely going to visit a parishioner or simply being oblivious to all that is going on around him.

Spot = 27

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 2:38:16 PM

Shadow will enter the inn and take up a seat with any of the members left in the tavern. If none are there he will take a corner table and order an ale and what ever the special is of the night. He will contemplate who and why he might be followed.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 2:40:06 PM

IF there are any of the group present he will say quietly to them, "I was just followed from my source of information, and that is very un nerving because I go out of my way not to be followed there. The people in charge usually discourage that sort of activity in their vacinity."

Edmund
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 3:15:21 PM

Whilst dark designs are being worked by the other members of the Order, Edmund contents himself, blissfully unaware, with baths, tea, and pastries.

Kadaz
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 4:44:54 PM

Kadaz whispers to Thar. "You follow Arm at a safe distance. Birdie and I will follow you from further back. I'm really bad at this sort of stuff." As Arm leaves Kadaz turns and walks a block in the other way. Once Thar takes off he turns and follows Thar, hoping he's far enough back that the stalkers (who he still can't spot) won't be spooked.

Wynum
Tuesday August 26th, 2008 6:00:09 PM

Confident that he had shaken his follower, Wynum simply goes back to Sampson's, not paying much attention to possible persistent followers, but taking a long way through the next bridge. Judging the city to be dangerous he does not wander, though he'd love to. Back at the tavern, he meets with Shadow.
"Me too have been followed. I thought they were after my ale, but it seems we are under a scrutiny. I don't want to risk the going back to the manor. But should not we try to find the others in case bad things happened to them, no? You seem to be more at ease with dealings of such."

DM Donna  d20+10=24 ; d3=1 ; d20+10=20 ; d20+10=27 ; d20+10=15 ; d20+10=24 ;

Shadow meets up with Kirsten and Julian at Sampson's and very quietly informs them of his suspicions about being followed.

Arm can tell that he's still being followed, but the mysterious person in the cloak makes no moves at all to intercept him in any way.

Thar, meanwhile, sees that the cloaked figure has paused a moment, stiffening in place. Then both Arm and Thar see the figure suddenly dash off into a nearby bath house.

Kadaz has no way of knowing if his ploy worked at all since he really didn't have any description of whom the followers are supposed to look like.

Wynum joins Kirsten, Julian and Shadow, giving them an update on what he's seen so far.

EVERYONE IN SAMPSON'S: please roll another Spot check.

Arm  d20+7=18 ;
Wednesday August 27th, 2008 6:05:12 AM

After the figure runs into the bath hoouse, Arm makes sure there are no similar stalkers present (spot=18), and then joins Thar. He then says to him, "That was VERY odd...very odd indeed. I suppose the roles are reversed now. Let us follow HIM and....WAIT...Ed! He is probably in there..let's go!". He then heads off to the bath house, hoping that any pending violence that occurs will be covered by their contacts with the guard.

Kadaz
Wednesday August 27th, 2008 6:24:54 AM

From a distance back Kadaz sees Arm approach Thar then watches as they both head towards the bath house. Kadaz figures they've spotted something and he takes off running towards them, determined to provide any necessary backup.

Kirsten  d20+2=7 ;
Wednesday August 27th, 2008 9:17:53 AM

Kirsten looks surprised to hear they are being followed, and takes a moment to try to cautiously check to see if she can see anything. Usually, such ventures do not go well for her but she sometimes gets lucky.

It doesn't look like it this time, however. (Spot = 7) Best to leave such spotting abilities to her betters, perhaps it's time the paladin looked into some glasses.

"So, what's the plan?" she murmurs quietly.

Thar
Wednesday August 27th, 2008 9:39:16 AM

Thar turns and motions to Kadaz that he (Thar) is going to go into the bathhouse. He immediately turns and runs after Arm, hoping that this won't end in bloodshed. "I'll take the back if you want the front" he calls to Arm, as he looks for a way around to the back of the building.

Wynum  d20+6=26 ;

Spot 15
Bored and unable to sleep, Julian returns to Sampson's. With an effort of will he forces himself to cheer up a little.
Then Shadow relates that he is being followed, and Kirsten and Wynum seem to be taking it seriously.

He says quietly, "If I seem to disappear, I've just shrunk a little to slink off. Hopefully I won't need to."

Arm  d20+7=13 ;
Thursday August 28th, 2008 5:59:43 AM

Arm waves his ascent to Thar. Not drawing his sword just yet, he enters the bath house and quickly looks for their pursuer (spot=13).

DM Donna
Friday August 29th, 2008 2:18:47 AM

Arm, Thar & Kadaz: Outside the bath house, the street is empty but for a black cat that yowls from the shadows of a nearby alley, its eyes gleaming golden.

Inside the bath house, Arm skids to a halt inside the receiving room, his eyes darting about to discern the whereabouts of the cloaked figure, only to discover the room empty of people. Besides the counter that graces one wall, there are three doors: one behind the counter; the door through which Arm entered the building and another door immediately opposite it. Before he can do more than register the layout of the room, the door opposite the entryway opens and a slender young girl steps into the room. The brunette half-elf looks a bit startled but smiles, a welcoming gleam in her gray eyes.

"Welcome, sir!" she greets him warmly. "What kind of a bath are you in the mood for today..?"

Wynum, Kirsten, Julian and Shadow: The paladin is unaware of anyone out of the ordinary, but Wynum easily spots a person wearing a hooded cloak of brown and gray hues. The cloak is of similar design to the one he'd spotted on someone following him before--but the centaur is certain that the person in the corner of the public house is NOT the same one that had followed him earlier.

Shadow's skills tell him that the person who had followed him to Sampson's was now either gone or in a hiding place that eluded his immediate detection--and that the cloaked person in the corner is dressed in a similar fashion.

Julian is able to spot the cloaked person in the corner--the one Wynum and Shadow seem to be eying so very intently.

Ed: The mage idly recalls that the shortbread here might go better with the tea, too.

Friday August 29th, 2008 5:56:57 AM

Arm smiles at the young half-elf and says, "Perhaps you can help me, young miss. I thought I saw one of my friends that I haven't seen in a long time come in here.". He then describes the cloaked figure as best he can to her, but since he didn't get a good look, his description is somewhat vague. (diplomacy=14, bluff=12).

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Friday August 29th, 2008 9:14:25 AM

Shadow turns to his companions in such a way that his mouth is hidden from the figure dressed like the one that followed him, "That is not the same person that followed me, but is dressed the same way. I wonder if we should question this person?" Shadow looks to his companions to see what they think. He will remain seated and will try and make sure he keeps an eye on the door to make sure no more of these hooded figures enter.

Thar  d20+13=25 ; d20+8=20 ;
Friday August 29th, 2008 9:55:51 AM

Thar, once he reaches the back, looks for a rear entrance and if he finds one, tries to decide if he would have reached it before their prey did.

If he thinks he beat their prey to the door, he'll see if it is unlocked and if so, will open it and enter.

Wynum
Friday August 29th, 2008 10:19:32 AM

Wynum replies to Shadow, gesturing as if recounting an unrelated tale.
"I agree, but none tried to kill any of us yet. Maybe they are not ennemies. I say we should try to confront him quietly. I suggest I go out with one of you and we'll secure the exits. Then one of you go confront him while the other stays here at the table to warn us if something goes bad?"
The centaur checks the exits and enacts this plan if the others agree, leaving the table quietly, he patrols the surrounding, watchful for roofborn exits as well.

(OOC: Sorry google docs sheets were unavailable. I don't know who's more suited for diplomacy, so my post was vague in that regard)

Kirsten
Friday August 29th, 2008 11:28:39 AM

Kirsten nods slowly at the suggestion of approaching the strange, cloaked figure that the others have noticed but she has not.

"A good plan," she mumbles, tucking her hair behind her ear. "I've never been much for negotiations... but if no one else wants to.."

The paladin's voice trails off at this, peering hopefully at her companions.

Kadaz  d20+1=19 ; d20+1=9 ;
Friday August 29th, 2008 5:45:40 PM

At the front of the bath house Kadaz looks around, trying to see if there is anyone else watching him. Then he puts his back to the wall next to the door and listens carefully for the sound of any problem inside. (spot 19, listen 9)

Edmund
Saturday August 30th, 2008 8:29:35 PM

Edmund begins a room-by-room search for Shortbread at Mithril Manor.

"I bet Julian has eaten it all!" he sighs to himself.

DM OOC: it's the Labor Day holiday here--I'll make an Official Wold post later today.

DM Donna
Monday September 1st, 2008 11:17:29 PM

Arm, Thar & Kadaz: The brunette half-elf looks a bit piqued.

"There was someone who came this way--I just showed them to the public baths room of the establishment." She turns and opens the door she had just entered from. "It's through this door, straight down the hall..."

Neither Thar nor Kadaz can see anyone else that has come out of the building (yes, Thar, there IS a back door. It's still closed and nobody is in the alley it opens onto.)

Shadow, Julian, Kirsten and Wynum: Even as the quartet plan amongst themselves, the influx and outflow of customers makes it a bit difficult to keep an eye on either of the brown-and-gray garbed strangers. (OOC: please roll another Spot check.)

Ed: The mage is in luck--he finds a tin that holds shortbread...in fact, the four compartments of the tin seem to have plain, crushed walnut-flavored, chocolate and chocolate-coated shortbread varieties in it.

Wynum  d20+6=10 ; d20-1=1 ;
Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 12:00:24 AM

Wynum gets a last quick look at the room [Spot:10], then enacts his part of the plan and gets out casually and waits for Julian outside. Checking on the inn's available exits with him before hiding some distance from the exit assigned to him [Hide: 1 as in *one*], he asks:
"Julian, somehow I feel worried for your friend Edmund. If we have been followed, surely he too must be in a great danger as we speak. Do you think he can handle this? Maybe he is lying, half dead in a filthy gutter by now?"
A shiver runs down Wynum's spine.
...
It takes quite a while.

Arm  d20+13=19 ;
Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 5:58:25 AM

Arm thanks the woman and heads through the door. When he reaches the area that she mentioned, he will listen intently at the door (listen=19). Depending on what he hears, he will open the door (if unlocked) and confront his pursuer. If he hears a conversation, he will listen to what is said before entering.

Thar
Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 9:47:37 AM

Thar will remain near the back of the shop. However, he'll use the time to hide himself in the shadows or whatever trash/material is available (e.g. Plateau City trash dumpster sorts of things...), to ensure that if someone does come out, they won't see him. Also, he doesn't want to be seen loitering near the back of the store.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)  d20+9=15 ;
Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 9:50:04 AM

Shadow is almost too preoccupied with the figure in the gray/brown and when others enter his attention is split and he is not sure whether he can keep an eye on the person.

Kadaz
Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 8:00:25 PM

Kadaz overhears talking inside and struggles to make out what is said. But it certainly isn't a fight, so he squares his shoulder and keeps watch over the front door.

Kirsten  d20+2=22 ;
Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 8:05:36 PM

Whether it be because she's been inadvertantly chosen to approach the stranger, or sheer luck, the paladin find her senses to be more alert than normal (Spot = 22, Nat. 20).

If she sees no other threats of suspicious activity, Kirsten will take in a deep breath and approach the stranger to question him.

If things seem amiss, she will remain at the table and wait to see what the others think.

Edmund
Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 8:47:05 PM

Running off to his chamber with the shortbread, Edmund makes an effort at eating all of it as quickly as possible, washed down with generous quantities of tea. He promptly develops an upset stomach.

"Ugh," he declares as he glances out the window. "Where have they all gone? Maybe they are at Sampson's?"

Considering the possibility, Edmund idly wonders if he should head out in search of his friends.

"Ow! Too much shortbread!"

Alas not. Edmund probably isn't going anywhere for the moment.

DM Donna  d20=14 ;
Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 1:14:42 AM

Arm, Highlight to display spoiler: { You go down a long hallway and emerge into a room that is about thirty feet square with a twenty-foot-square pool of steamy water in it. There are several people in it, obviously partaking of a public bath. On one side of the pool a human male of perhaps twenty to twenty-five years of age straightens up from handing one of the patrons within the pool a towel. He hurries over to you with a puzzled frown on his face.

"I'm sorry, sir," he says firmly, "I should have thought you'd have paid attention to the sign in the foyer--nobody is allowed to come back here unless accompanied by the attendant...however, now that you're here, how may I help you..?"
}

Thar finds several large (and somewhat full) receptacles for garbage arranged within the alley. If he plans to use them to secret his presence, he needs to roll a Hide check. If he "takes the plunge" and chooses to hide within any of the cans, then he can add a +2 Circumstance Bonus to his roll.

Kadaz, Highlight to display spoiler: { You see a figure emerge from the bath house's front entrance--it's a person wearing an all-too-familiar brown-and-gray cloak. The figure glances about and then hurries up the street.}

Wynum & Julian: Wynum is feeling very much out of his element as he tries to spot his target AND hide himself in plain sight...Julian appears to be keeping silent at the moment.

Shadow & Kirsten: As the paladin draws purposefully towards the brown-and-gray cloaked person, the crowd surges and retreat just as she's getting close enough to hail the stranger--she finds that he (or she) is no longer standing where she'd last spied the person. Shadow curses because he can't find the cloaked individual in the pub house crowd, either.

Ed learns the hard way that over-indulging is not a good thing to do sometimes.

Arm
Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 5:59:25 AM

Arm apologizes to the young man and repeats what he said to the young lady at the desk, once again asking, "Have you seen someone like that come in here?".

Kadaz  d20+13=25 ; d20+9=15 ; d20+4=20 ;
Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 6:32:30 AM

Kadaz knows he going to loose any foot race with a human. With no one else around this guy is going to get away! So at the human with the cloak comes out of the door Kadaz grabs him, trying to hold him tight.

"Not so fast, mister, I have a few questions for you."

(1. initiate a grapple, rolled a 25 on a touch attack,
2. make a grapple check as a free action, d20 + BAB + str bonus -4 = 15.
3. If 1st grapple check doesn't work, try again, d20 + BAB (2nd one) + str -4 = 20)

Thar
Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 9:33:06 AM

Thar, looking around, decides the smell is too rancid for him to put up with, and besides, if someone was going to try to escape out of the back, they would have done so by now.

However, he will pile up some trash up near the back door and press and pile the trash up against the hinge and handle. That way, if someone comes out the door, they won't be able to open it quickly and will have to struggle to open it. Also, if the door is opened, it will cause a huge CRASH that will alert everyone around that someone is going out the back. The owners of the store may be annoyed, but this will definitely alert the party to someone trying to escape.

Once his espionage is done, he'll move quickly back towards the front of the store.

Edmund
Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 12:52:47 PM

Edmund eventually recovers from the excess of shortbread and, after some fussing with his clothes to get everything 'just so', he departs forthwith for Sampson's.

Wynum  d20-1=16 ;
Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 6:20:31 PM

Having utterly lost Julian from sight, Wynum suddenly realizes that there is no way a Centaur can look unconspicuous in the middle of a back alley. His efforts to "hide" behind the corner of the building opposite any back door exit do turn up better, though [Hide 16]. He waits there, wholly confident in Kirsten's diplomatic powers.

OOC sorry for the missed post.

Still feeling a bit vague from thinking about his friend Podo, Julian suddenly realises that he is alone. He looks for the pleasant centaur who was talking with him and scurries to catch up with him.

Kirsten
Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 10:48:47 PM

The paladin looks once more about the crowd, and when she does not see the individual she turns to look back towards Shadow.

She looks at the rogue with a questioning expression, as if silently asking if he had seen where the individual went.

DM Donna  d20=10 ;
Thursday September 4th, 2008 1:11:22 AM

Arm: The young man lifts an eyebrow, looking at Arm with a peculiar expression.

"Nobody's come into the public baths room since I came in here to make sure the towels were distributed," he said archly. "Of course, if Raymond hadn't gotten sick and skipped work today, he'd be the one handing out the towels and I'd be at my usual post on the front desk, where I would keep nonpaying strangers from entering the establishment at all...!"

Kadaz: Kadaz easily snags and holds the arm of the cloaked figure. As his grip succeeds in swinging the person around to face him, the dwarf suddenly realizes that--although the figure is human-sized and sports two arms, two legs and a head...the figure does not appear to have a face.

In the time it takes for this shocking sight to impinge itself on Kadaz's brain--the blank face of the individual seems to flow and reshape itself, becoming the visage of a dewy-eyed blonde human who looks to be in her early teens. She opens her mouth--and screams:

"Help! Help! Somebody help me! I'm being attacked by a dirty old dwarf!!!"

Thar: As you make your way around to the front of the bath house once more, you hear the scream of a young female: "Help! Help! Somebody help me! I'm being attacked by a dirty old dwarf!!!"

Edmund, Shadow and Kristen: Ed joins his colleagues inside Sampson's, noting that both Shadow and Kirsten seem to be looking around for something.

Wynum and Julian: The halfling catches up to the centaur...and technically has to make a Spot check versus Wynum's Hide DC of 16 in order to see where Wynum is hiding.

Arm  d20+13=22 ;
Thursday September 4th, 2008 6:06:03 AM

Arm grimaces at the clerk's rudeness. Hearing the commotion out front (listen=22), he digs a gold piece from his belt pouch and flips it to him, saying "Sorry for the trouble". He then rushes out the front door and spies his friends. Moving to Kadaz' side, he lays his hand on the hilt of his sword and echoes the woman's cry..."By all means, call the Guard. We have a situation here.". While they wait for events to transpire, he asks Kadaz what happened. When he is told, he looks the "girl" straight in the "eyes" and says, "You'd better start answering questions VERY fast, starting with who or WHAT you are and why were you following me, or things will not go well for you, and the Guard will be the LEAST of your problems.".

Kadaz
Thursday September 4th, 2008 6:24:02 AM

Kadaz is momentarily taken aback by the reforming of his captive into a young female. He redoubles his hold on the creature as he smiles grimly at it. "Yell all you want, you traitor. The guard will come and we'll all go and have a nice long talk with some very smart mages."

He then adds his voice to the tumult. "ARM! THAR! TO THE FRONT!."

Thar
Thursday September 4th, 2008 10:54:32 AM

As Thar comes around the building, he sees what's transpiring. Moving fast, hegoes to the front of the group. Yelling loudly and holding up his cross, he says "I am Thar ail Baerer, priest of YHWH and exorcist. This young woman, sadly, has been taken over by a demon and we need to get her back to our temple. Please everyone, help us clear the way so that we may remove this evil from her body. Make sure you do not touch her, for if you do, the demon may jump to you!!!! I have placed a protection from evil spell upon my friends and they are protected. Please, bear with us and stay away from her! The guard will be here soon and will help anyone that is affected by the demon!!!" With that, he readies himself and tries to look concerned and worried (which he really is, but for a different reason).

Once finished, he looks to his friends and says quietly "Um, if anyone can help be diplomatic or bluff here, I'd appreciate it. "

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Thursday September 4th, 2008 3:33:45 PM

Shadow, "Bloody seventh hell!" swears to himself as he realizes that whoever was there is no longer there and he missed his chance outside to find him/her. He turns to Ed, "Have you noticed anyone following you while you came here?"

Edmund
Thursday September 4th, 2008 5:14:54 PM

Edmund waves at Shadow and Kirsten and makes his way over to them.

"Let me tell you about shortbread--" Edmund begins before Shadow cuts in with more relevant discussion.

"What? Following me? No, can't say I noticed anyone. Wasn't really paying attention, honestly. Anyway, about the shortbread..."

Edmund relates the events of the past several hours in great detail, and his conclusion that the shortbread was likely gone off and that a different bakery should be found for the future.

Kirsten
Thursday September 4th, 2008 6:17:52 PM

The paladin curses softly as she realizes that the individual has seemingly disappeared. Kirsten moves back to the table then, hearing the last bits of Shadow's question.

"You're positive, Edmund, nothing strange at all?" she asks, before he can enter into his lecture about shortbread and tea. "We've been having some problems while you have been off having tea and cakes-- no doubt gaining many a pound."

DM Donna
Friday September 5th, 2008 1:12:58 AM

DM OOC: In the case of Arm, he was well into the heart of the public baths site within the building, where there were several individuals utilizing the facilities (a.k.a. talking and/or splashing water about)...which is why I didn't post that Arm could have heard anything happening outside the building (i.e. the "girl" screaming for help outside)...however, as Thar has posted he is shouting, as well--and pointedly shouting for Arm, no less--then I'll grant that Arm hears his name being shouted from outside and he goes to investigate that.

Meanwhile, I need to know what Julian and Wynum are up to before I can post for the group.

Arm  d20+17=27 ;
Friday September 5th, 2008 5:56:13 AM

OOC: Very well, then. I'll do the same action as the previous post once I get outside and add the following:

IC: Arm's voice joins Thar's as he summons all of his diplomatic skills, saying "All you kind folk clear the way for us, please. We need to get this poor child out of harm's way...kindly move aside". (diplomacy=27).

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)

DM Donna  d20=17 ;
Monday September 8th, 2008 1:37:05 AM

Arm, Thar & Kadaz: Arm and Thar join their colleague and get an eyeful of the rapidly-swelling crowd of passers-by...as well as the winsome young woman who is screaming for help from the dwarf assaulting her.

"See here, dwarf, unhand that girl!" The demand comes from a burly, mustachioed human man who steps up to Kadaz and glowers at down at him...but then Thar and Arm come along and claim to be exorcising demons from the female, giving the man pause. DM OOC: his 17 is no match for Arm's very high diplomacy check.

"Please, oh, please!" wails the delicate female in Kadaz's grip, "These three villains mean to drag me to their lair and have their wicked way with me! If you but scan me for demon magic, you'll find that I possess none at all!"

"I'm no mage," the human male confesses.

"I am!" A nearby female elf says, then she casts a spell at the girl that Kadaz is holding (anyone with Spellcraft can make a check versus DC12 to tell that she's casting Detect Magic.) Once the spell is cast, the female elf scowls.

"The girl speaks the truth!" the elven wizard announces to everyone in the crowd. "There is no aura of magic around her--she cannot possibly be possessed!"

"Oh, save me from these wicked men!" Kadaz's captive begs in a sobbing voice, turning her face towards the crowd so that they can all see the vivid hand-shaped bruise on one side of her face. "They'll only beat me into submission if you don't..!"

"Let her go, miscreants!" the elven wizard demands, shifting the quarterstaff she's holding so that it is now in both her hands. The crowd (it's even bigger now than it was before!) closes in on the trio from the Mithril Order, an ugly mood becoming almost palpable...

Everyone else at Sampson's: Try as anyone may, nobody in Sampson's can see any cloaked figures whom were clearly taking great interest in the Mithril Order.

Kadaz
Monday September 8th, 2008 5:26:40 AM

Kadaz's best response to a hostile crowd normally would be to start swinging a battle axe. Not a good response here, especially when he has 2 hands on this shapechanger. "Call the guard" he suggests to Arm. Maybe these folks will escort us to a guard house"

Arm  d20+17=25 ;
Monday September 8th, 2008 6:01:50 AM

Casually laying a hand, perhaps not so casually, on the pommel of his sword, Arm says to the young wizard, "We are not miscreants as this woman alleges. We are members of the Mithril Order, and we have done much for the honest citizens of this city. This 'woman' had no face when my diminutive friend caught her, and he saw her face change into what you see before you now before his eyes. Perhaps she IS possessed, perhaps not, but she is most definitely up to no good. We work closely with constables Gormley and Rabbitsfoot. If you don't believe us, then you're welcome to contact them, as that is where we are taking her at this moment. Any or all of you are free to follow us if you still fear for her safety. Should we encounter any of the Guard along the way, I'm certain that once we mention our affiliation they will gladly escort us.". (diplomacy=25)

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Monday September 8th, 2008 1:03:59 PM

Shadow finishes up his meal, "Well I guess it is time to head back to the house." Shadow will see if his companions agree, and if they do he will get up and head back to the house for some needed rest and relaxation.

Thar
Monday September 8th, 2008 3:18:08 PM

Thar looks at the elf wizard and says to her (in elven) "Madam. If you will use your magic, you will see that she is actually a doppleganger. This is her latest shape change and if you would escort us or join us, you will see what we are talking about. I welcome you to check my truth here and see that again, I am telling the truth. Please help us get her to the guardpost."

To Kadaz and Arm he says softly so only they can hear "Hey, will somebody slug her and knock her out, so that she'll change back her shape to the original? Then, they'll see who or what she really is???"

Kirsten
Monday September 8th, 2008 3:44:22 PM

She nods her head at Shadow's suggestion. "Yeah, I think it's time we head back."

If the others agree, she will leave Sampson's and head back home.

Julian (small size) 2nd post, to move things along
Monday September 8th, 2008 6:16:57 PM

Julian shuffles back to the table where Shadow and Kirsten are sitting, with a message from Wynumm that he want us to go back to the house. He is just in time to hear that they are heading back.

"Err, okay, if that's what you want. I'd begun to think that Sampson's was home, and the manor just a place to store stuff." The halfling gives a wink, and runs back to Wynumm.

All Together Now

The group at Sampson's decide to call it a night (more or less) and head back towards their base--but their way is blocked when one of the narrow streets they normally traverse is packed with a crowd of people who are none too pleased with (if one is to believe the dark mutterings overheard) the trio of degenerates who have attempted to kidnap a virginal girl off the streets for their own nefarious appetites!

A burly human male (the one that had stopped Kadaz earlier) bellows loudly: "I said take your hands off her! If anyone is gonna escort her to the guardpost, it's gonna be ME!" So saying, the man lunges at Kadaz and the "girl" he's holding, grabbing hold of the blonde and attempting to wrest the female away from the dwarf.

Kadaz, the DC to beat will be 19.

The elf wizard, meanwhile, has paused because of Thar's dialog in her native tongue. However, Thar is doomed to never know how she may have reacted, for--as soon as the tug-of-war between Kadaz and the man who seems determined to rescue the "damsel in distress" occurs, the others in the crowd are spurred forward, with many hands snatching at Arm, Thar and Kadaz..!

The rest of the Mithril Order sees the crowd trying to get their hands on...someone--or more than one "someone"?--with different things being shouted over each other:

"Unhand her, varlet!"

"Mebbe she's a witch?"

"FIGHT! FIGHT!"

"Down with dwarves!"

"Take back the streets!"

"No taxation without representation!"

"Kilroy was here!"

Arm  d20+2=20 ;
Tuesday September 9th, 2008 5:53:36 AM

Struggling with the crowd, Arm attempts to knock the doppleganger out with a well-placed blow to the head (attk, non-lethal=20).

OOC: Sorry, but I don't have my PHB at work. I'm not exactly sure how non-lethal damage works (I added my strength bonus in but I don't know if I should have, etc), so if I messed up, feel free to adjust accordingly. :)

Kadaz  d20+13=16 ; d20+8=9 ;
Tuesday September 9th, 2008 6:53:29 AM

Kadaz regrabs the shape changer as she/it is pulled from his grasp by an idiot. He tries hard but the creature slips from his grasp. (grapple check 16)

As she/it starts to slip away he grabs again at her, but in the crowd he simply grasps futilly at air (grapple check 9, natural 1).

"You fool!" he yells at the man who is allowing the creature to escape. If Kadaz looses this creature this man is going down, hard."GRAB IT!" he commands.

Thar
Tuesday September 9th, 2008 10:39:32 AM

Thar decides to do something totally unexpected and moves behind Kadaz and Arm, just needing a second or two to cast a spell. He quickly casts Summon Monster 3, calling upon a large black bear to appear a foot ABOVE the fake girl and the man trying to grab her from Kadaz. An angry bear should clear out most of the audience and the weight of a several ton bear should stop her from running, hopefully...

Edmund
Tuesday September 9th, 2008 11:24:08 AM

"Now see here," Edmund begins, intent upon lecturing the crowd about violent gatherings and the legal obligations of peaceable assemblies. He immediately stops, though, hearing the voices of Kadaz, Thar, and Arm shouting over the din.

"I say!" Edmund exclaims. "I think this might be trouble! Guards! Guards! Help the Mithril Order! Guards!"

Having raised a hue and cry, Edmund turns his gaze upon the silly people who are foolishly (at least to Edmund's interpretation) attacking, en masse, his friends. What is the best way to handle an angry mob? Why Rainbow Pattern of course, which Edmund casts in the centre of the mass of people. (20ft radius spread, Fascinates 24HD of creatures, DC 21 Will negates).

"That's right," the half-elf wizard mumbles to himself, "Look at the pretty lights."

Kirsten, not especialy interested in trying to fight her way through such a mob, and certainly wanting to avoid hurting anyone, will try to make her way into a position where she can better see what's going on.

"Edmund, can you tell what all this madness is about?" she asks the wizard, wondering what her companions are up to.

Edmund (2nd post)
Tuesday September 9th, 2008 8:11:49 PM

"What it's about?" Edmund says as he continues to monitor the spell, "What what's about? Mob attacking Kadaz and Arm, I think. At least I heard Kadaz and Arm shouting. And there's a mob. And an uproar. But what's it about--that I don't know. Once the guard gets here, they'll sort things out!"

"Wynumm, what's that jibberish, and what can you see?" Julian chooses to stay back from this for the moment, especially when he sees Eddy's spell take effect.

Not sure if he accomplished what he intended, Arm spies his friends and watches as Ed casts his spell on the crowd. He however, is unaffected by it (will=22).

In the middle of the fight Kadaz sees a burst of bright colors that makes him squint. What in Domi's name is that, he wonders. However, the colors have no effect on him and he continues to contemplate squishing this numskull in front of him. (will save 26)

DM OOC: My apologies for the late post--too many errands I had to run yesterday.

Arm pulls back and lets fly a single, well-aimed blow, knocking out the helpless blond girl. (OOC: bad Fortitude check on the girl's part. Heh.)

Kadaz loses his tug-o-war with the misguided wannabe-rescuer and the "girl" passes from the dwarf to the human.

Thar casts his spell.

Edmund correctly deduces that his fellow Mithril Order members need help and calls for the City Guard. Then he casts his own spell.

Wynum uses his size to advantage and sees that Arm, Thar and Kadaz are the ones being mobbed by the crowd, which he reports to the others with him in horrible Elvish.

Shadow quickly "rises above" the occasion, spotting and scaling a sturdy gutter so that he is well above the crowd. He is able to see all that happens from his vantage point.

Kirsten ducks and weaves on the fringes of the multitude, and is able to make out the trio of Arm, Thar and Kadaz being surrounded by the crowd even as Edmund replies to her question.

SUDDENLY a big black bear appears over the heads of a man with a blond girl in his arms...and the bear falls to the ground with a "WHUMP!!!" and an impact that those closest to the site can feel through the ground.

The man just happens to spot the sudden appearance of the big, dark blob overhead, however, and just barely manages to shove the unconscious girl out of the way of the falling ursine before falling back to avoid being crushed himself.

Julian has a stunning view of the back of peoples'...um...of their backs. He doesn't understand a word that Wynum says.

Arm and Kadaz avoid the effects of "all the preeeeeetty colorrrrrrrrrrrs" that suddenly quiets the mob.

In the distance, a shrill whistle can be heard--the sound seems to be getting closer.

The black bear lets out a questioning grunt, uneffected by Edmund's spell, but also not seeing anyone in the immediate vicinity trying to attack the bear nor the bear's summoner.

Logistically speaking, the bear landed right beside Kadaz. Arm and Thar are on the other side of Kadaz; the man fell backwards and is in front of the bear...and the "girl" landed facedown on the ground on the side of the bear opposite of Kadaz. This means that the bear is between the man and the "girl" (more or less)...but also that the bear is between Kadaz, Arm and Thar and the "girl" as well.

Nobody else in the Mithril Order needs to make any saves versus Thar's spell as the mob meets the "up to 24 HD" effect of the magic.

Arm quickly pushes his way around the crowd, which shouldn't be that difficult now that they are under the effects of Ed's spell, and attempts to grab the girl, but misses horribly (grapple=4..doh!).

OOC: I take it the 'girl' is not under the effects of Ed's spell?

Kadaz  d20+11=14 ;

A RAINBOW BEAR!

How did that rainbow mange to deliver this bear to Plateau City? That shape changer has some interesting powers, that's for sure. But Kadaz knows the best way to respond to magic - a sharp axe!

Kadaz reaches behind him and pulls the ties that normally hold his axe and shield to his back. They drop into his hands and Kadaz comes on guard, ready to respond to whatever the animal may do.

"Nice bear!" Kadaz says to it as he tries to appear confident but nonthreatening. (handle animal 14)

Birdie loses what courage he had and moves behind Kadaz. He peers around the dwarf, growling softly at the bear.

Thar
Thursday September 11th, 2008 9:56:02 AM

As the bear arrives in the nick ofime, Thar yells to Kadaz and Ed (while pointing at the bear) "Don't worry about Samantha! I summoned her here and she's supposed to help us!!"

He quickly directs Samantha, the big, cuddly bear with razor sharp claws and 2 tons of weight, to try to knock the woman into unconciousness with its bulk.

(OOC = Do I need an attack roll or grapple roll? I've never tried this before, but wondered if a girl surrounded by tons of people (thus she wouldn't have a lot of room to move) would really stand much of a chance against a massive bear.)

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Thursday September 11th, 2008 11:06:43 AM

Shadow will remain up on his perch making sure that no one makes any threatening moves towards his companions. He will unstrap his bow and nock an arrow just in case.

Wynum  d20+6=22 ;
Thursday September 11th, 2008 1:26:20 PM

Wynum tries to make sense of where is the girl everybody was talking about when they arrived, and keep an eye on her if he can, ready to pursue. [Spot 22]

He doesn't do anything else however, as the watch has no reason to treat him as an honourable MIthril Order member. He also fruitlessly repeats the description of the situation to Julian, still stubbornly using elvish for some reason.

Edmund
Thursday September 11th, 2008 1:37:26 PM

Edmund maintains the Rainbow Pattern which has fascinated the mob. In an effort to clear a path to Kadaz and Arm, he begins to move the pattern slowly down the largest thoroughfare adjacent to the open area, knowing that the fascinated people will follow along, desperate to remain within its effect.

"Well this is fun," he says to himself with some amusement. "They're rather like lemmings!"

Kirsten
Thursday September 11th, 2008 3:49:34 PM

The paladin looks confused when she sees a bear materialize and even more confused when she takes notice of Edmund's rainbow lights.

"Bears and lights," she mutters, blinking somewhat. "I just hope no one gets eaten."

She realizes there is little she can do at this point, and stands back to wait for what will happen next... whether the guards arrive or she will discover what the cause of all the noise and commotion was.

Julian (small size)
Thursday September 11th, 2008 6:45:22 PM

Julian moves closer to see, staying 20' away at least.

DM Donna
Friday September 12th, 2008 2:58:33 AM

Arm reaches for the "girl" but is jostled by one of the spectators under the influence of Ed's spell.

Kadaz is cautious around that bear.

Samantha the Cuddly turns around and swats at the unmoving girl on the ground, who is now bleeding copiously from several wounds left by those razor-sharp claws.

Shadow has a very good and unimpeded view of all of the above (as well as all of the below.)

Wynum continues to speak in tongues (at least to Julian.)

Edmund is briefly blessed with a vision of some sort: it's obviously some other plane of existence, and he can almost see himself as a bored but slightly-sadistic young professional in possession of a magical-like device called a "laser pointer"...the device shines a focused beam of colored light that the professional is "doodling" on a nearby wall with--and making a cat chase after that light as he chuckles in amusement.

Then Ed comes back to reality, acknowledging that such a thing could never possibly exist in the Wold. Just as he has anticipated, however, the fascinated crowd follows the Rainbow Pattern.

Kirsten and Julian continue to observe, each of them in their own way.

The shrill whistle seems to be coming closer--it's obvious that it's one of those types that is blown upon by a person--and voices also seem to be approaching, apparently shouting in Common:

"Which way? Who calls the City Guard..?"

Arm
Friday September 12th, 2008 6:01:31 AM

Arm calls to Thar, "Have your bear put a paw on her in case she wakes up!". To the Guard's challenge he yells, "Over here! The Mithril Order requires your aid. If one of you could get Constables Gormley and Rabbitsfoot, they would be very interested in this.".

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Friday September 12th, 2008 6:10:04 AM

Shadow remains poised to act if anyone attacks his friends.

Thar
Friday September 12th, 2008 1:17:15 PM

Thar follows Arm's direction and says in a soothing manner, hoping that this works, "Samantha, honey, sweety, Could you put part of your bulk on that girl until help arrives. Now don't squish her, just keep her down." (OOC = OK, I'm taking some liberty here with my wording, but who would ever expect someone to refer to a real bear this way? Having a little fun with this to lighten things up ;-) )

Once he speaks to the bear, he'll will move to the woman as best as he can and tie her up with his silk rope, so that she can't get away. If she starts to wake up while he's doing this, he'll bash her head against the ground to knock her out again.

Kadaz
Friday September 12th, 2008 6:58:18 PM

Kadaz looks at Thar oddly. "Samantha? You have a bear with a name?" Ok, Kadaz has dealt with weirder things before.

He starts inching around the bear, trying to get to the bleeding, unconscious shape changer. Once there he helps Thar tie up the creature.

Kirsten
Friday September 12th, 2008 11:55:26 PM

Now that the crowd is under control and moving away because of Edmund's rainbow light spell... she shakes her head somewhat at the thought of this... Kirsten will try to make her way closer to her friends. Yet, when the guard arrives she will stop somewhat and wait for the other's to speak, as she has never really been much for negotiating.

Here Come the Guard---DM Nellie
Sunday September 14th, 2008 11:56:25 PM

Thanks to Thar's friend, Kadaz have no problems securing their prisioner, much to the distaste of Casanova who continues to below. "Get yur hands offa her!"

The shrill whistles continue and finally two youthful looking city guards appear. They look curiously from the bear sitting atop the young unconcious woman to the adventurers and then over to Casanova. Finally the older of the pair of Guardmen looks over at Thar. "You want to tell me what's going on here?"

Arm  d20+17=22 ;

Thar looks at the older guardian and does not respond, since Arm has done an exquisite job of handling the situation. He does, however, look at Samantha and say "My dear, thank you for your help and you may return to your den," before dismissing her.

Returning his attention to the woman, he sits himself on her back and awaits the results of Arm's diplomacy.

Kirsten

She listens intently to the bard's account of what had happened, having not been there herself to see the full course of the current events.

Wynum
Monday September 15th, 2008 5:09:09 PM

Wynum stays mostly silent, but if need arises during Arm's account, he adds that he too has been followed by such a cloaked figure, adding weight to the idea that this issue concerns them specifically and would only endanger the rest of the populace.

Kadaz  d20-2=6 ;

Kadaz finishes tying up the helpless/squished shapechanger then turns on the jerk who almost let it get away. "Yo, buddy. You talking to me?" A Somewhat Peaceful Resolution---DM Nellie
Tuesday September 16th, 2008 12:21:39 AM

As Edmund continues to play pied piper to the crowd, the rest of the Order sorts out the shape changer mess in one way or another. Shadow, Julian and Thar keep a look out, but there isn't any other signs of trouble...

Back with the lady...

The guards listen patiently to Arm and then Wynum. Looking down at the bound woman, the youngest guard raises his eyes a bit at the request to see the Constable...seems like it might be a popular request... The other guard, however stiffens as Arm introduces the group, his tone now all business. "Ahhh...very good sir. So you are the Order then? Constable Rabbitsfoot is ready to meet you. He's just finished up a bit of business and cleared some time in his schedule for you..." He looks distastefully at the bound "woman" on the ground. "Well, whatever that thing is, we'd better take it with us. Jeremy, please secure the captive..." The following statement is met by a sputter of protests from the would be "knight in shinning armor." The elder guard places a firm hand on his sword hilt, his jaw tightening as he addresses the man. "Oh cool it Scott...everyone knows you'd kiss a hag if you thought you could get to second base! This is now officially Town Guard business, so clear out and head back to the pubs!" Flushing, the former Casanova eventually heads off, though he does mutter something about "stinking dwarves and nosy Guards".

And so, the excitement of the chase now gone, all that is left is the mop up. The young Jeremy bends over and picks up the unconscious woman and the two guards begin to lead the order toward the Constable's quarters.

Arm
Tuesday September 16th, 2008 5:58:45 AM

While walking, Arm raises an already arched eyebrow at Thar and murmurs, "It seems that we've gotten to be quite well known with the local constabulary.".

Once they reach Rabbitsfoot, he again relates all the events leading up to the capture of the doppleganger, finishing with "perhaps now that we have one, we can finally get some real answers.".

Kadaz  d20+1=20 ;
Tuesday September 16th, 2008 6:57:03 AM

Kadaz looks at the two guard members carefully to see if he has met either of them before. "Thank you very much, gentlemen. I am Kadaz Guardson and I appreciate your help."

Kadaz looks carefully around at the surroundings. "Watch out guys and be ready. If there are more of these creatures they may try to rescue this one." (spot 20)

Edmund does his best to avoid attracting the attentions of the guards at the moment. Instead, he contents himself with driving the crowd well away from the scene and towards a nearby temple.

Once there, he rushes off to join the rest of the Order, knowing that the beautiful lights will disappear after about forty-five seconds. Perhaps the temple staff can help the soon-to-be very confused, disoriented people.

Fan Base---DM Nellie
Thursday September 18th, 2008 1:00:04 AM

The Order reunites, and follows the guards toward the Constable's office. Though everyone is on high alarm, there is no sign of anyone following or any menacing activities nearby. As a matter of fact, it is a beautiful crisp autumn day and the walk is rather enjoyable. The pleasant weather and being among notable explorers seems to loosen the collor of the older of the guards who takes up a position nearby Kadaz and speaks in low tones. "We hear stories about the adventurer's life sometimes. Matter of fact, I'm saving up some gold so that one day maybe I can become one... If you don't mind, could you please tell me of your last adventure?"

OOC: Sorry about the missed post, we will make it up this weekend if possible.

Kadaz
Thursday September 18th, 2008 7:03:51 AM

Kadaz replies softly to this guard. He briefly describes what happened recently, including the loss of a companion. "There are good times, and there are bad times. We've done reasonably well, but have lost friends. But Arm here is the one who can best tell the tale of our past adventures." Kadaz asks Arm to come over and talk more about what they've done.

Before Arm start talking Kadaz adds one more thing. "As you know I was raised by the Guards. They took care of me, and I was a guard for several years. I think, in my way, I still am. The Mithril Order is going to do its share in keeping Plateau City safe. You have my word on that."

During this process Kadaz remembers something. "Has anyone had time to visit the Catacombs to determine the worth of those crystal vials?" he asks the others in the party.

Arm
Thursday September 18th, 2008 8:07:22 AM

Arm drops back for a moment and asks Shadow if he ever cashed in the crystal vials at the Catacombs.

Thar
Thursday September 18th, 2008 12:29:36 PM

Once Thar hears Kadaz's query, he replies "I had volunteered to do it once Shadow returned, but we left before I had the chance to talk to him about it." Seeing that Arm is following that same thought, he listens to hear the answer from Shadow.

During the walk, Thar still doesn't let his guard down (e.g. watching for threats still) , but does give a quick prayer of thanksgiving for the beautiful day and great weather.

Wynum
Thursday September 18th, 2008 1:44:41 PM

Wynum lags behind and attracts the attention of the team members who are not currently near or discussing with the guards (that would probably be Shadow, Arm, Edmund and Kirsten). He comments in a low voice, gesturing as to appear to be discussing about his bow.

"Companions, if I understand well, at least me and Kadaz have been followed by these hooded figures? And they can change their visage? Yet we have our hands on one only. Shouldn't we worry about where the rest are?" He then points his chin at the guards "But even more so, who they are now, before following and talking to them?"

Kirsten
Thursday September 18th, 2008 3:32:58 PM

Kirsten contemplates Wynum's words, and then goes on to explain quietly their earlier relations with the guards -- or at least in so far as she knows, as she too is a somewhat new edition to the Order.

"They will be back, if they were following us earlier," she murmurs. "Perhaps we've scared them off, for now."

That said, she feels a faint sense of unease, her eyes turning towards the guards (and the girl) as they followed them.

Edmund
Thursday September 18th, 2008 9:33:40 PM

"Ah," Edmund says when he hears Wynum's words, "So you've met our shape-shifting friends. Sure you want to go on with us? They've been causing quite a lot of problems lately."

Edmund shrugs after saying this, "But as for who they are, I'm afraid I've no idea. --Trouble, and that's the end of my knowledge about them. They are trouble."

Julian (small size)
Thursday September 18th, 2008 10:56:48 PM

Julian looks thoughtfully from Wynumm to Eddy, and from Kirsten to the others talking with the gaurds. Well done, Julian. Quite and interesting mix you've found yourself with. He smiles to himself.

OOC: that is meant in a positive manner, I realise it would be easy to read as sarcastic, but it is not.

Fan Base or Phantoms?---DM Nellie
Friday September 19th, 2008 12:24:03 AM

The guard listens intently to Kadaz, particularly when he mentions the vampires. He nods somberly when Kadaz mentions the loss of his companion.

Everything is going swimmingly until Kadaz makes mention of the crystal vials. Then, almost as if Wynum's suspicions are confirmed, things begin happening rapidly. "Jeremy" lets out a shrill whistle and the bound woman on his shoulder suddenly disappears. A heartbeat later, the two guards suddenly disappear from view, though the sound of rapid foot beats is easily heard in the quiet city street.

"AH!" exclaims Edmund in surprise as the guards and woman vanish.

Immediately leaping into action, Edmund aims for the general area of the footfalls (Listen=16) and lets fly with a spell designed to make escape a little more difficult. Luckily, the wide area of the spell means he doesn't have to know exactly where the invisible cretins are.

With a bright flash of light in a large area around the footfalls (10-foot radius), blinding golden dust rains down outlining invisible creatures. The dust also gets in the eyes of any in the area, possibly blinding them (DC 19 Will Negates blinding).

Edmund decides not to mention that he didn't memorise See Invisibility this morning, instead focusing on whether he got them with the dust. "After them!" he says excitedly. "Hopefully my little dust-storm will show them up!"

And so, with the sudden disappearance of the guards, the Order snaps into business. Everyone takes a good look around, but can't locate the fleeing guards... Everyone, that is, except for Wynum who sees the duo bolting down the street and ready to cut a corner. Arm and Thar are able to hear the couple, but don't know exactly where they are. Thar tries to dispel the spell but can't. Ed fires off a spell, but he's not exactly sure where to aim. Wynum sees the pair of guards running past where the golden glitter floats down (gave you a 25% chance to hit, failed).

As everyone else decides their next course of action, Wynum watches as the "guards" duck down a back alley and out of sight.

Monday September 22nd, 2008 4:39:33 PM

(Did I miss a turn?)

Wynum loses no time readying weapons or anything. He merelys gallops as fast as he can (base speed 80') in the direction of the two guards, allthewhile bellowing a prudent misdirection:

"Search the streets! Kadaz and Edmund with me that way!"

If Wynum reaches the guards, he pretends to not see them, pass them if they are running down the street as if running towards an invisible target, and then in all cases jumps back on the furthest one to initiate a grapple.

(Touch attack hit AC27, Grapple 22-4=DC18, Dmg 5 temp, Dodge bonus on the other guard)

Regardless of the success of the grapple, if he reaches them he calls: "Here's one! The other's over here", pointing to the other guard.

(Btw you mention only the two guards, but am I correct in stating that they were three - two guards and the prisoner - and that all of them disappeared at once?)

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)  d20+9=28 ;
Monday September 22nd, 2008 6:24:35 PM

Shadow tries to find the 'missing' guards but to no avail. Then he sees Wynum gallop off, and trusts his new companion to actually have an idea and will pursue. He will still try to see if he can locate the two guards.

Kadaz
Monday September 22nd, 2008 7:34:18 PM

At Wynum's order Kadaz follows, moving as fast has he can (base speed 20'). He looks ahead, trying to see what Wynum saw but with no success.

Julian (small size)
Monday September 22nd, 2008 7:50:02 PM

"Huh?"

Seeing the others running, Julian shrugs and follows after them. His little steps do not carry him as far as those with bigger legs.

Edmund
Monday September 22nd, 2008 8:23:07 PM

Edmund rushes after Wynum, racking his brain for what spells or abilities might be useful in this situation.

"Bother! Bother! Bother!" he says over and over and he hurries along.

Kirsten
Monday September 22nd, 2008 8:23:49 PM

Kirsten flails somewhat when Edmund's spell seems to fall short.

"Anything else you can do?" she asked as she moved to his side and follow with him.

Arm
Tuesday September 23rd, 2008 5:54:47 AM

Arm tries as best he can, but can't quite keep up with their 4-legged companion. He hopes that his lack of speed will not allow the enemy to escape.

OOC: Hm, I thought of something..doesn't a dead run double your base speed? If so, Arm is moving at 60'...still less than Wynum, however :)

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Tuesday September 23rd, 2008 2:37:38 PM

Shadow will continue to follow Wynum whether or not he can see the guards.

And Then There Was One--DM Nellie
Tuesday September 23rd, 2008 11:45:17 PM

Wynum leads the chase and does indeed catch up to the guard formally introduced as "Jeremy". The other "guard" breaks off and cuts down a separate alley. Shadow thinks he might have seen a shadowy outline heading down another alley.

Wynum grabs "Jeremy" and folds him in his strong arms. The young boy looks up at the centaur and winks, obviously not too worried about his situation. Then he lets loose with another of shrill whistle. After a few moments, there is a flash and "Jeremy" simply vanishes out of Wynum's arms. (OOC: Those with Spellcraft, Wisdom DC20 to discover something interesting about the flash)

OOC: Sorry, kiddos haven't been feeling well of late. To answer the questions, yes there were three in the beginning. The captive "woman" disappeared at the beginning of combat, leaving the two "guards". Now there is one invisible guard remaining.

Arm  d20+8=18 ;
Wednesday September 24th, 2008 6:00:28 AM

Arm arrives just in time to see the 'guard', or lack thereof, disappear...not that he was able to in the first place. However, he sees nothing special about the event (spellcraft=18...DOH!). Looking to Wynum, he says, "Well, NOW what?".

Kadaz
Wednesday September 24th, 2008 6:47:37 AM

Bringing up the rear with Julian, Kadaz looks around carefully for any thing useful or threatening. "So these fake guards were here just for information. And they milked me like a cow." he says bitterly. Those near him can practically see the steam coming off the fighter. Kadaz grips his axe so hard the wood creaks slightly.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)  d20+9=24 ;
Wednesday September 24th, 2008 9:29:37 AM

Shadow shouts, "I think one went down this alleyway." Shadow points as he changes course to follow what he saw. He will try to keep up with whatever these creatures are.

Thar shakes his head at all the things that continue happening, especially these stubborn invisible enemies.

When Jeremy disappears, Thar tries to see if he can figure out what's going on (Spellcraft = 21)

While pondering whatever is going on, he tries to listen (in spite of all the yelling and noise) and see if he can track them again...

Wednesday September 24th, 2008 5:46:59 PM

Cursing, Wynum follows the guard he has seen branching to another alley (not sure it's the same as Shadow's mark), shouting to the other rather incoherently:

"Devils! He vanished! One's this way! Do something! Silence! Silence them! Arr!"

If perchance he catches up with the other guard, Wynum will try a grapple again with the intent to follow through with a pin to prevent him from speaking (or whistling...).
[Which can only work if somehow Wynum can start a combat and gain initiative. Touch AC22 Grapple DC14, Grapple DC28, Dmg 5, Initiative 17]

Edmund (Haste)  d20+18=38 ;
Wednesday September 24th, 2008 11:05:47 PM

Edmund's attentiveness to arcane details is sure to help him out (Spellcraft=38, Nat. 20), even if his spells miss.

Doing his best to get into the middle of the order, he waves his hands and pronounces a strange word. The word itself--something like "Properare"--seems to spiral away, deeping in pitch and becoming drawn out. Those nearby suddenly feel a familiar effect--Haste (PH 239) . The world around them seems to have slowed down. In reality, they have sped up.

(Affects 8 targets, so everyone in the Order within 45 ft. of Edmund, lasts 8 rounds)

"What?! These things are creeping me out. Give me something tangible I can knock out."

All Gone---DM Nellie
Thursday September 25th, 2008 12:47:07 AM

Shadow and Wynum do their best to track down the last guard, but it is to no avail. It would appear that he has cut down one of the side alleys and is now nowhere to be found. As a matter of fact, there isn't even anymore telltale sounds of footfalls anymore. Once more the Order finds itself alone in the middle of city streets on what in other circumstances would be a perfect day.

As he thinks though the encounter, Edmund comes upon an interesting observation. The flash before the guard's disappearance was definitely a strong conjuration... There is a tugging in the mage's mind as he struggles to recall something that he recently read in his studies. Aha!!! That's it! Edmund is suddenly reminded about a book he read on Wondrous Items...specifically, he remembers reading about an item called a Bracelet of Friends that results in a bright flash just like the one he just witnessed!

Arm
Thursday September 25th, 2008 6:29:39 AM

Arm lays a comforting hand on Kadaz' shoulder and attempts to comfort him while dealing with his own frustration, "Stand easy, my friend..we were all duped by them. It's just something to remember the next time we meet of with 'guards'.". To the rest, he says, "I think we need to get to Gormly and Rabbitsfoot as soon as we can. I imagine they will not be pleased to learn that they are now being compromised by the dopplers.". On the way, should Ed relate his knowledge of the enemy's escape device, he muses to the party, "I think such a device would bear some looking into for our own use.".

Wynum
Thursday September 25th, 2008 12:27:33 PM

Impatiently striking his hooves at the pavement, Wynum seems only slightly less upset than Kadaz.

"Disappearing, ah! Changing faces, eh! What, if we can't trust our ennemy to be fair, now. So, what do we know about these assaillants? Any manner of noticing them before it is too late? It would not be amusing, I say, to lack trust in everybody forever. Can they change their clothes? Their voice? And what should we fear now that they know about your mission?"

Kirsten
Thursday September 25th, 2008 3:49:26 PM

She winces at Wynum's words, and then turns her gaze towards her companions as they group together again.

"Arm's right," Kirsten agrees. "Only, before we do anything else we need to know that they are 'real' and not... someone else... and best we move about in pairs. No one should be going anywhere alone until we get this figured out."

She shrugs somewhat, wishing she had more to offer the group.

Kadaz
Thursday September 25th, 2008 4:24:04 PM

"Hmmm, they showed their true faces when I mentioned the gem crystal vials. They seem to be more valuable than we had thought. Still have them Shadow?" Kadaz asks.

Thar
Thursday September 25th, 2008 4:29:46 PM

Thar bites back an angry snarl as the enemies manage to get away. "You're right Arm, we need to get this info to the real "Guards" right away. However, we also need to consider unloading those vials at the Catacombs right away, so at least they'll be in safe custody and we can upgrade our weapons and armor."

To Kirsten, he says "Good point. These dopplegangers creep me out and they're not going to be an easy foe... I'll pair with Shadow, if that makes things easier. We're the stealthiest ones anyway and can stay out of sight as we go about doing whatever is needed..."

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)  d20+5=6 ; d20+9=12 ;
Thursday September 25th, 2008 4:46:44 PM

"I do still have them because I did not have a chance to get to the catacombs, but I wonder if they think they still have the Woldsblood in them. They might not be as valuable to our enemies without that repugnant substance." Shadow says. "We should probably get to the 'real' guards quickly before our enemies think of something else to trick us." Shadow is still very disturbed by the groups inability to apprehend the 'fake' guards. He continues to spy around checking for any signs of them.

Edmund
Thursday September 25th, 2008 5:25:30 PM

Edmund sighs and trudges back to the party. Once everyone is there, he explains the situation with the "Bracelet of Friends" unhappily.

"You see, when they whistled, whoever had the bracelet must have used a charm to call them back. So, that person is either within hearing distance or using Clairaudience. Very possible, and anyway, with their shape-changing abilities, a search of the environs will likely be bootless."

Edmund shakes his head miserably. "Why can't we just go back to fighting mummies and liches?"

Where to Now---DM Nellie
Friday September 26th, 2008 12:36:13 AM

Emotions are high as the chase ends fruitlessly, but as several Order members recall, not all the information gathering was one way. Thinking back on it, Kadaz is absolutely positive that the guard was paying too much attention when he mentioned the vials. That leaves the question.... If the enemy is so very interested in these vials, should the Order keep the containers safe for the time being, or should they be disposed of?

Various people partner up in the name of safety and there is talk of trying to link up with one of the Constables.

Shadow keeps an eye open but doesn't spot anything out of the ordinary...whatever that is!

OOC: So, shall we head over to Rabbitfoots?

Arm
Friday September 26th, 2008 9:08:18 AM

Resolute, Arm says, "Let us be off to see Rabbitsfoot then. I think it best if we take the vials to the Catacombs, too...I do not know if we will be able to keep them our of their hands for long, and perhaps once we are rid of them, they will leave us alone as well....at least as far as the vials are concerned. Who's with me?".

Thar
Friday September 26th, 2008 9:29:07 AM

"I'm with you Arm" Thar replies, resigned to the inevitable fact that they're not going to be able to find their enemies at the current time. "Ed, I agree about mummies and liches. They at least don't change shape and you know what you're fighting..."

Kadaz
Friday September 26th, 2008 9:30:48 AM

"I think we should see Rabbitsfoot first with the vials" Kadaz adds. "The vials may be useful in thwarting the plans of these creatures. And if we sell them to the Catacombs, won't they just sell them back to anyone who wants them? Isn't that what the Catacombs does?"

"Though, I suppose," she adds, "Next time we'll be a little more wary."

Wynum
Friday September 26th, 2008 4:03:06 PM

Wynum shudders as he follows the group.
"Mummies? You have to fight mummies? My dam sure was a pain but at least I didn't have to fight her, even less several. Leeches I can handle, though. See, what you want to do is pinch the head part and pull with the fingers, then... what?"

Julian (small size)
Friday September 26th, 2008 9:12:37 PM

The Constable's Office---DM Nellie
Saturday September 27th, 2008 1:22:29 AM

OOC: Okay guys, I haven't had the time to do research into the history of the city, so if I make any mistakes, just let me know...and bear with me. ;)

Decision made, the Order makes their way over to the Constable's office. Thankfully, nothing untoward happens on the way there. Upon arriving, two vary familiar faces are there to greet you...it is none other than "Jeremy" and the older guard from just moments ago. They appear bored until the group is spotted, then the duo snaps to attention. The older of the two speaks. "Ahh...good day sirs! Here to see Mr. Rabbitsfoot? Right away then, he's been anxiously awaiting your return!"

Edmund
Saturday September 27th, 2008 11:53:52 AM

Edmund raises his eyebrows at the two guardsmen.

"Looks like our adversaries are better-informed than we are."

Julian (small size)
Saturday September 27th, 2008 5:25:00 PM

"How do we know if it is going to be the real Rabbitsfoot? Or the real Thar for that matter?"

Thar
Sunday September 28th, 2008 2:33:53 PM

Thar smiles at Julian's question, though it is well thought out and a good point. "I'm not sure we know who is whom anyway."

To Arm and Ed, the most diplomatic of their group, he whispers "Do you remember anything specific from our last conversations with Rabbitsfoot that only he would remember, so we can make sure he is who he says he is? That's a good way to check, unless you have other ideas. Either way, we need to make sure they know what's going on..."

Arm  d20+17=33 ;
Monday September 29th, 2008 6:03:29 AM

Arm agrees with Kadaz, "That's true..all our enemy would need to do is buy them from the Catacombs...perhaps we can receive a reward from the Guard as a 'finder's fee'.

Upon seeing the two guards, Arm casually puts his hand on his sword..not sure if THESE are the real guards or not. Discretely nodding at Thar's suggestion, he follows the guards into the building. Once they start the audience with Rabbitsfoot, he greets him and brings up something that only the 'real' constable would know (dimploacy=33).

OOC: I can't think of anything offhand that only Rabbitsfoot would know, so I'll leave it up to your decision, Nellie :)

Monday September 29th, 2008 6:34:00 AM

Kadaz has been fooled once too often this evening to play it cool in this situation. He immediately jumps at the older guard and tries to grab him. His first grab seems to slide off, but his 2nd grab is much firmer.
(melee touch attack 23, grapple check 5, melee touch attack 16, grapple check 20)

"Grab the other one! Let's find Rabbitsfoot and straighten this out, now!" Kadaz orders. "You won't fool us again" he snarls at the guard.

He bellows triumphantly (well, if it suceeds...) while his inner reasonable self tries to grapple with his instincts.

Kirsten frowns.

Shadow is glad the group decides to move on to the constables office. He is a little jumpy along the way, he is used to being the one pulling the switcheroo and not having it done to him. He will keep his eyes and ears open as they make their way through the city.

Once the group is at the office he will hang back, his once again fear of the law comes to the forefront. When he sees the two grab the guardsmen he will try and block the door to the street in case they try and escape. (Although he thinks after he does it what real good would he be holding them back. :)

Disturbing the Peace---DM Nellie
Tuesday September 30th, 2008 12:15:02 AM

Everyone is on edge with the recent encounters with shape shifters, and it's apparently too much for Kadaz and Wynum. Pouncing like cats, the two reach up and in a matter of seconds have managed to subdue the guard who look absolutely shocked...though it's hard to tell because both Kadaz and Wynum clasp hands over mouths. NO more whistling Dixie!!

And so, captives in tow, the Order barges into the Constables office. Surprised, Constable Rabbitsfoot rises from where he was seated, spilling his tea in the process. Calculating eyes shift from the grappled guards to Kadaz and Wynum and then down at the stain on his trousers. His voice is perhaps a little too calm. "Greetings Mithril Order. I've been awaiting your return ever since a Benjamin Fletcher dropped by to let us know of the destruction of a certain portal. I was not, however, expecting such a dramatic entrance. Would you mind explaining to me what Jeremy and Samuel have done to incur your wrath?

Julian (small size)
Tuesday September 30th, 2008 3:25:03 AM

Julian is torn - knock him out with the merciful sword, doesn't hurt anyone in the long run, and the shapeshifter would reveal itself if I did. This halfling would understand I think...

OOC Rabbitsfoot is a halfling, isn't he? Or am I just remembering that wrong?

Then a light turns on inside his head, Kendry would be proud.
"What's your real name? and what's his?" demands Julian of Rabbitsfoot in halfling pointing to Eddy.

OOC surely shapeshifting doesn't confer language abilities too....

Arm
Tuesday September 30th, 2008 5:57:35 AM

Arm frowns a bit at Julian's attitude towards Rabbitsfoot, then continues, "We're sorry for the interruption, Constable, but..". He then goes on to explain what happened a short while ago, and his companion's reasoning for suspecting the identity of Jeremy and Samuel. Once he is finished, he reiterates his question to Rabbitsfoot.

OOC: Please refer to my previous post for the diplomacy roll to ascertain if Rabbitsfoot is the REAL one or not.

Kadaz
Tuesday September 30th, 2008 6:40:21 AM

Kadaz focus on maintaining his grip on the guard. He doesn't want to hurt him, just in case it is really a guard, but he doesn't want to offer any chance for escape, either.

Wynum
Tuesday September 30th, 2008 9:24:30 AM

He moves over slowly to Kirsten and whispers "Can you detect any evil here? If they are dopplegangers, it should give us a clue at least..."

Kirsten
Tuesday September 30th, 2008 7:02:23 PM

The paladin nods her head as though she were thinking the very same thing and uses her ability to cast Detect Evil (phb 218). Kirsten falls silent as she concentrates and tries to determine if she can sense any evil coming from the two guards and even Rabbitsfoot.

Survey Says---DM Nellie
Wednesday October 1st, 2008 12:07:33 AM

The Constable listens patiently as everyone voices their concerns.

Julian asks what his name is, and the halfling Constable smiles as he answers back in halfling. "My name, for better or worse, remains Rabittsfoot. That fellow over there is Edmund Greenleaf...or that is who he was introduced to me as."

Arm fills in Rabbitsfoot on the dopplegangers they encountered. Then, just to be on the safe side, he queries the Constable as to what type of tea he prefers (knowing from previous encounters that the fellow is rather particular about **only** drinking "green" tea). Seemingly put at ease, Rabbitfoot smiles. "Well, you can examine my tea if you wish, but I assure you that I only drink the freshest green teas...the others are too strong for my liking."

Shadow keeps a look out while Kadaz and Wynum keep a hold of their prisoners.

Thar and Kirsten are of like minds... Focusing her mind, Kirsten scans the area for signs of evil...and spots one glaring aura inside Shadow's backpack...doubtlessly the crystal vials still carry a taint from the evils previously stored in them. Though she focuses for a long time, Kirsten does not sense any evil from the Constable or the two guards.

And through it all, Edmund begins to explain how it is not at all possible for the guards to be dopplegangers, though with everyone speaking he's not sure who might have heard his pleas.

Though all of the commotion, Rabbitsfoot remains calm. After it looks like Kirsten is done concentrating, the halfling smiles and addresses Kadaz and Wynum. "Provided we all check out with your paladin, do you mind letting go of my guards? I think they've seen enough excitement for the day, and I really could use someone guarding the door. It would appear that we have more to discuss than I thought previously."

"I'm gonna keep a watch from the door with the guards. Just let me know, when you know, who to KO, okay?"
Julian stands by the door frame with his badgers, looking out at the people passing, wondering just who is the enemy out there. The sun is casting strange shadows and some dust blows up into his eyes.

Arm
Wednesday October 1st, 2008 5:56:04 AM

Arm nods to Kadaz and Wynum to release the guards and offers his apologies. With a sudden flash of inspiration, he looks around furtively and asks Kadaz, "Where's Birdie? Our 4-legged companion was able to sniff out the presence of the dopplegangers before..I completely forgot about that!".

Once the guards leave, he turns to Rabbitsfoot and, sighing heavily, asks, "So, what do we do from here? We have these diamond vials that contained Woldsblood, but we hesitate to sell them at the Catacombs, as it would be too easy for the enemy to just buy them back. Would you be able to take them for safekeeping?".

Kadaz
Wednesday October 1st, 2008 6:28:29 AM

Kadaz releases the guard he has a hold of. "Sorry about that. These creatures used your appearance to fool me once and I'm a but jump" he apologizes.

As Arm remembers the past Kadaz looks down at his dog. "And have you been napping again?" he asks Birdie.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Wednesday October 1st, 2008 10:16:59 AM

Shadow steps forward and produces the crystal vials in their case. "These are the vials that we believe the enemies of the city would like to have. Although, as Arm said they 3 of them used to contain some very nasty stuff, and no doubt that is the stuff the enemy is truly after." Shadow will set the case down on the table and move back for the rest of the group to talk to Rabbitsfoot.

Thar
Wednesday October 1st, 2008 11:48:43 AM

Thar adds in offering profuse apologies for their behavior, even though it was warranted. In regards to giving the vials to Rabbitsfood, Thar murmers to his companions, "Um, those vials are pretty valuable and to be honest, we're low on cash. I"m not being greedy, but the value we could obtain form at least the clean vials would help in meeting some of our needs. Remember we have a new house to care for and stock up. Also, we didn't find anything else of value that entire trip in the shadow realm.... Some of our weapons and armor need some boosting and I'm sure our spell castor supplies of wands and scrolls is low."

Wynum
Wednesday October 1st, 2008 5:08:49 PM

Releasing Jeremy, Wynums tries his best at an apology.
"Well, I... had never seen you before except as an assaillant! It seems you hair have been messed up by my assault. Here let me help.", as he produces an overlarge comb meant to sort out ticks and fleas.

Turning to Thar he suggests:
"I am by no means expert for this things, but could not we have this blood rendered harmless in some way?"

Edmund
Wednesday October 1st, 2008 11:44:13 PM

Edmund smiles broadly when Rabbitsfoot remembers his name and, seeing that all is smoothed over, calms down significantly.

"Green tea, my good man? Surely not! I must introduce you to the wonders of the finest cut black varieties. The Jeeling'Dar, for example, a most exquisite choice!"

Until interrupted, Edmund continues in this vein, expounding at length upon tea, its cultivation, maturation, and preparation.

Pondering Thar's comments, Arm says to him "I would like nothing better than to cash in the vials in compensation for what we've done, but as I said, I fear that the enemy could very well buy them back and,if not able to make use of their prior contents, simply refill them with MORE woldsblood and continue with what they originally planned. It is a dilemma indeed, but I will abide what whatever the majority of us decide to do with them.".

Kirsten
Thursday October 2nd, 2008 9:36:54 AM

"I don't sense any evil," the paladin points out after she has concentrated. "Just those vials we found."

She listens quietly to what the other's have to discuss, especially concerning the vials. To Rabbistfoot she says, "Sorry about that, we just needed to be sure."

For her part, she doesn't seem to mind whether she goes without the money or not. Though she is reminded that she will have to leave for some training before they depart on the latest part of their quest...

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Thursday October 2nd, 2008 2:04:06 PM

"Wynum, sorry but there is a whole river of that nasty stuff where we just came from, and I would not know if any one could destroy that much of the stuff. And who knows what would happen if you tried. I just don't want these containers to fall back into the wrong hands. It seems they were able to hold the nasty stuff for transport and that is not a good thing." Shadow says to the newest member of the order.

Julian (small size)
Thursday October 2nd, 2008 6:38:41 PM

"Are the vials made of diamond? or am I just dreaming? Could we smash them, or carefully cut them up, and sell them that way? We could even keep a major part of each so that they are unable to rebuild them."

No More Ruffled Feathers---DM Nellie
Friday October 3rd, 2008 12:46:21 AM

Rabbitsfoot nods dismissively as the guards are released and apologies are offered. "No, no...not a problem. I can certainly see why you would be so jumpy!" The Constable waves his hand at Jeremy and Samuel who still look a little confused, but seem satisfied with the Order's apologies. "Go on gentlemen, I have some senstive material to discuss with the Order...."

As the guards take their leave, Rabbitsfoot sits down once more and offers chairs to all of the Order who wish to be seated. "As I said before, there is much we need to discuss, but first, please fill me in on what you found out in your adventures..."

Edmund
Friday October 3rd, 2008 1:44:07 AM

Edmund takes a seat and leaves it to the others, for the present, to discuss what they have gone through.

After all, he spent most of the time eating shortbread.

Arm
Friday October 3rd, 2008 5:47:44 AM

Arm relates to Rabbitsfoot everything that has happened since they last met. Afterwards, he wonders to the group, "What could cut up a diamond, as that would be the easiest way to make sure they are not being used for evil? The only problem with that is if there are still Woldsblood traces in the vials, it would be fatal to anyone who tries to cut them open.".

Kadaz
Friday October 3rd, 2008 7:29:45 AM

Kadaz lets Arm tell their story. As the tale unfolds Kadaz looks around the office, trying to get a feel for Rabbitsfoot by how the office is decorated. And where is Gormley, Kadaz wonders.

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Friday October 3rd, 2008 9:25:15 AM

Shadow is a little startled when Arm suggests to destroy the vials, but he comes around as it might be the best for Plateau City if that were to happen. Shadow will allow the others to relay the events of the shadow realm, but will speak up if he notices any glaring omissions.

Thar
Friday October 3rd, 2008 9:26:00 AM

Thar thanks Rabbitsfoot for the chair, but chooses to remain standing against a near wall. he listens to Arm tell their story and adds a comment or two when needed.

Regarding the vials, Thar mentions "You know, I could check with our temple bishop and see if he has experience with these sorts of things. He might be able to dispel the evil and allow us to trade them in. I wonder if that wi'll allow us to safely dispose of them at the catacombs..."

Wynum
Friday October 3rd, 2008 4:33:39 PM

Wynum listen carefully to the recouting of the party's adventure. Unless discouraged from doing so, he sometimes scribbles notes on a blank book.

Kirsten
Friday October 3rd, 2008 7:36:26 PM

Kirsten listens to what the others have to say and fills in anything they might miss or that she might add, though there is probably very little.

She then waits to see what Rabbitsfoot has to say.

Julian (small size)
Saturday October 4th, 2008 3:53:18 AM

Julian listens from his position at the door, looking out just to be sure.

Arm
Monday October 6th, 2008 5:59:01 AM

Noticing Shadow's distress, Arm says to his friend, "Never fear..even if we CAN shatter the vials, the resulting pieces would still bring a good price I imagine.".

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Monday October 6th, 2008 2:48:38 PM

"I just hate to see good workmanship go to waste is all, but I understand if they need to be destroyed. I would hate to be responsible for anything that would bring harm to our wonderful city, and I know these in the wrong hands will." Shadow assures Arm and the other members of the order.

Curiouser and Curiouser---DM Nellie
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 1:11:49 AM

OOC: I'm assuming that in the summary someone mentioned the vampires and the Woldsblood filled vials.

As several Order members consider the best coarse of action for the vials, the Constable nods. "Ahhh...it's been tainted with Woldsblood eh? I can probably help you with that. There are several high level clerics that can examine the vials if you wish. Otherwise, I can guard them if you'd like...I have a few high level security boxes that we use for...extremely valuable materials. Of course, I understand if you wish to guarde them yourselves."

The halfling looks at the Order with respect as he lowers his voice. "I am extremely concerned about your report on the happenings today..." Rabbitsfoot pauses for a sip of tea before he continues. "What I'm going to relate is strictly confidential. If for any reason you do not decide to assist me, I ask that none of this information leave my office until I can have it investigated... A few days ago, I ran into my good friend, Councilman Gibard. When we talked, he was very abrupt, and I was rather puzzled that Gibard forgot about a pet project of ours: training citizen watchgroups to help keep an eye on local areas in order to aid the Constabulary of the City. We had been discussing the project in secret mostly because the debates between the Council Members about the upcoming year's budget had been causing a lot of friction between the Members..." Rabbitsfoot sighs. "Now it seems that Gibard has totally forgotten the project. Come to think of it--three other members of the Council who had been notoriously at odds with each other have become the very best of buddies over the past couple of weeks." The halfling's face furrows deeply with frustration. "I didn't think much of the oversite by Gibard , but in light of the events of this morning... let's just say I'm disturbed." The Constable rings his hands. "I have absolutely no evidence that anything is awry, so I can't order an offical investigation yet... But if you folk were willing to do a little looking around...I would be indebted to you." Rabbitsfoot looks around waiting for the Order's answer.

Julian (small size)
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 5:32:21 AM

"What does this Gibard look like? If Birdie can sniff out a shapeshifter we only need to get close, or even just get Birdie close. I'd prefer to knock him out, and ask questions later, but, "Julian looks around, "everyone seems to frown at me for that."

Arm
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 6:00:36 AM

Arm pales at the story told by Rabbitsfoot and replies, "I wouldn't take your friend's oversight lightly..it sounds like he may not be what you perceive either. Yes, we shall definitely help you, but we may need to have the Guard's support should things get 'physical'. One more thing..we should make up some type of code between all of us and you so that we don't avoid any more confusion..even a simple hand gesture will do.".

Smiling at Julian, he says "For once, I agree with you, my friend. I have grown quite tired of this doppleganger threat and something needs to be done by any means necessary. If Birdie finds something amiss, that's all the proof we need.".

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 10:36:15 AM

"We would need descriptions and location of their houses so we could do some close investigation. This is very troubling if they have been able to infiltrate the Council." Shadow says as the group starts to agree with Rabbitsfoot.

After any other discussion with Rabbitsfoot takes place, Shadow will say, "I hate separating, but we need to cover as much ground as quickly as possible. I will take a look at the homes of these council members as I am best suited to do just that to see if there is any thing to implicate unusual activity."

Wynum
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 12:02:48 PM

Wynum thinks about the situation and suggests:
"If we need to come close to Gibard, maybe you can put us forward as citizen watchers and suggest to him a review. But I fear they know us already to well, and I for one can hardly disguise myself. Yet, if that was enough for a revealing spell? Also... if your fears are confirmed, then it means that Gibard, the real one, is dead or held against his will. Maybe we can try to contact him by magical means. Can this be done? "

Listening to Arm, he frowns.
"Indeed something has to be done once and for all. Constable, it is best if you do not attempt anything as it might arouse their suspicion, and they might escape us. We must try to this whole organization at once! As for signs, back when I was a soldier, we had different secret words for each day. I think we should do the same. For example, the signal could be the thumb pressed on a finger joint corresponding to day of the week(*). The fourth finger would mean that a known shapechanger is near. That way if we are observed, at best they can know the sign for one day."

(*) OOC: Assuming there are 9 or less days in the woldian week...

Edmund
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 12:06:07 PM

As the Constable relates his own concerns, Edmund seems to become progressively more pale. He almost looks like he will be sick.

"More them," he moans unhappily, "I suppose it can't be avoided."

Thar
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 2:12:15 PM

Thar grimaces as the constable relays the possible extended activities of their doppleganger foes. "It seems that our problem is deeper than we thought..." he mumbles to no one in particular.

The mention of high priests being able to clean the vials does perk his interest, however, and he says "If you'll give me the names of those priests, I'll meet with them and discuss how we can cleanse and eventually sell these vials, once the evil is removed. I'm probably familiar with some of them and maybe can get things expedited." After a moment ,he adds "Who wants to escort me to meet with those priests? It would be good to have someone watch my back. Kirsten, would you like to go with me and help assure that whoever we meet with is good, rather than being an evil doppleganger?"

Kadaz
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 6:18:40 PM

Kadaz listens carefully as the others plan out their actions. "So, the suspect is Girbard. And three others. Sounds like a job that needs some surveillance. And we can check out Birdie's senses near them. But if they are dopplegangers it is likely they are alerted to us. I think we shouldn't split up at all but rather be on guard at all times."

He thinks a bit more. "Ed, is there any magical item which will see through their changed shape and reveal them as imposters? Or a spell of some sort?"

Kirsten
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 7:44:06 PM

The paladin nods. "I'll go with you Thar, none of us should be travelling alone anyway."

Kirsten looks vaguely worried after hearing the constable's words and suspicions.

Arm  d20+18=19 ;
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 5:55:39 AM

Arm says, "If the rest think it wise, I am fairly good at disguising myself...a moment please.". He then goes to a secluded corner of the room and digs around in his pockets for a bit, not finding much but doing the best he can. Returning to the group, he shows them the 'new me' (disguise=19...nat. 1..doh!). He then continues, "I have more supplies back at the Manor, and should be able to do a better job. Perhaps I can join up as a citizen watcher?".

Shadow (AC 22/17 HP 47/47)
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 9:54:54 AM

Shadow listens as the group discusses numerous options, "I think the only thing evil about those vials is the remnants of the woldsblood, so cleansing them is a good idea but I still don't think we want to sell them right now. Just in case."

Shadow says to Arm, "I am well versed in disguise as well, so if we want to work together on infiltrating the citizen watch we could try."

Edmund
Thursday October 9th, 2008 12:04:48 AM

Edmund shakes his head, "I'll have to check my books," he says, "I imagine there is something to help see past illusions, but as for seeing past a Doppleganger's shape-shifting, that is another matter. Detect evil might be the very best you could hope for. Never you mind though, I'll figure something out."

But privately, Edmund wonders if he really will be able to figure something out.

Arm
Thursday October 9th, 2008 5:55:04 AM

Arm nods at Shadow, "Your company would be welcome, and probably very wise..we shouldn't enter the enemy's camp without some sort of backup.".

DM Post (ADM Scott)
Thursday October 9th, 2008 1:47:33 PM

Rabbitsfoot tries to keep up with all the different conversations going on. He tries to answer questions as they come up, "Well the three councilmen are Lynom, Mobec and Saisset, but as to where to find any of them I am not sure. You might be able to make some inquiries near the more affluent areas of the city."

"As for a sign of the day, I guess we could use the finger signals." Rabbitsfoot tries it out to see if he has it right looking at Wynum.

He smiles broadly at Arm's attempt at disguising himself, "Well I guess if I had not watched you put on the disguise it would fool me into not knowing it was you." He looks to be struggling not to laugh.

"I am not sure that I have the resources here to do anything with those vials other than secure them, so you will need to decide what to do with them."

"Well, again I cannot order an investigation, but the guard would appreciate whatever you can do to help the citizens of Plateau City." The members of the order take that as a subtle sign of dismissal as Rabbitsfoot gets up and moves towards the door.

Thar
Thursday October 9th, 2008 3:14:34 PM

(OOC = I'm Assuming that Rabbitsfoot gave Thar a name of a high priest, even though it isn't in the DM post).

As the group readies themselves to leave, Thar asks for the vials and says that he'll go with Kirsten to have them cleaned up. "Where do we want to meet later today? Our local tavern isn't a good idea to discuss these things, so how about back at either our house or maybe my church? Also, I guess we'll have to use the finger signals so we know we are talking to the real 'us." We've never met at my church before, so it's not a place they would expect us to go. I'm open to anything. I just want to get this evil cleansed."

To Kirsten, he adds "Can you think of anything I missed? I'm ready to go whenever you are, ma'am."

Edmund
Thursday October 9th, 2008 3:49:05 PM

Edmund prepares to depart, and is eager to return to the Manor so he can begin looking over his spells. He also would like to visit the library.

"Maybe I can find something in the library, if I come up sort in my own spells," he says. "There might be something I can research about Dopplegangers, or how to detect them."

Kirsten
Thursday October 9th, 2008 8:42:54 PM

The paladin takes a moment to think of anything they might have left out, then shakes her head at Thar's question. "You seem to have most everything covered. So I guess all that's left is to decide on a meeting place, you're right about the church... but at the same time we were at the Manor earlier and they didn't seem so eager to bother us. But I suppose all that's changed now."

For a paladin, the woman is still rather indecisive and in the end will agree to meet wherever the others want.

"Anyway, we best be going."

Arm
Friday October 10th, 2008 6:00:29 AM

Arm thanks Rabbitsfoot for him time, and assures him that they will do their best. At Thar's suggestion, he says, "That is an excellent idea...the church it is. While we are there, perhaps you can inquire about ensuring the safety of the vials. I WOULD however like to return to the Manor first to pick up a few things before I go undercover.".

Shadow
Friday October 10th, 2008 9:27:31 AM

"I will also need to return to the manor to get some things also Arm." Shadow says as the group tries to decide where to meet up. "I also agree it sounds like Thar's church might be the best place to meet up later."

Shadow will go back to the manor with Arm to put on their disguises. "We should leave before getting our disguises on just in case the manor is being watched."

Splitting UP (ADM Scott)
Friday October 10th, 2008 9:35:15 AM

Thar and Kristen gather up the vials and head to the church and priest that Rabbitsfoot suggested (OOC: Rabbitsfoot would have given the name Kidel for the priest - but I am not sure of which religion/god). When they arrive at the church they are greeted inside by an acolyte who asks, "How may I assist you today?" Looking both Thar and Kristen up and down with no apparent emotion.

Edmund, Arm and Shadow head off to the manor to do their various tasks. Ed goes to his room or the library, while Arm and Shadow head off to their rooms to get their disguises. (OOC: Let me know if you put your disguise on before or after you leave.)

OOC: Not sure about the other characters and what they are doing (please post with actions).

Thar
Friday October 10th, 2008 2:28:12 PM

Once they arrive at the church, Thar nods at the acolyte and politely but with some authority introduces himself as a mid level priest from his temple. He says, "I have some church business to attend to with Father Kidel and need to meet with him. Would you notify him that I am here and would like to speak with him?"

Kadaz
Friday October 10th, 2008 8:18:52 PM

As the party separates Kadaz suggests a meeting place. "How about those of us not going to the temple scout around a bit to see where these councilmen live. We won't approach them, but start building up our knowledge of their patterns. Then, in a few hours, meet back at home." Kadaz takes off, determined to find out something useful.

Julian (small size)
Saturday October 11th, 2008 4:54:00 AM

Julian follows the others along to the church.

He asks the acolyte quietly, after he has answered Thar, "Hey, look, I've been taught how to Turn Undead, but I think I need a refresher course. Can you help me out, or lead me to someone who can?" The halfling shows his Holy Symbol of Domi as an awkward way of showing kinship with these clerics.
"I'm a Protector of Domi, you see, but a little rusty on Turning."

Wynum (late post)
Saturday October 11th, 2008 1:25:04 PM

Wynum goes on to accompany Kadaz.
"Somehow, I think we should be safe. These shapechangers should have other business than care about us further. But we might have an advantage on them. Let's find these people. Do you have contacts in town who could help us? Otherwise, I suggest we start with the foreign quarter."

Wynum, along with whoever wants to tag along, goes to the foreign quarter. He will try to make good use of his genuine "just arrived" look, and ask a couple people who might appear knowledgeable (preferably centaurs or elves).
"Well met. Err... I am Wynum, from the isles. I have traveled to have my plea heard in good places. I have the name of a councilmen who might give me a friendly hear, but I know not where to find them. Would you know where I can find information on their whereabouts?"
He will provide the name of Lynom if asked, and pretend his plea is about extending exchanges between the craftspeople of both cities.

Kirsten
Saturday October 11th, 2008 8:48:31 PM

With Thar, she takes a moment to introduce herself to the acolyte and then allows Thar to do the rest of the talking. For her part, Kirsten will remain at his side and try to keep an eye and her senses out for anything that might seem off.

She will wait and see if the acolyte will let them see the priest or not.

Edmund  d20+18=34 ;
Sunday October 12th, 2008 10:04:25 PM

Edmund goes through the spells in his book and doesn't find anything that he thinks will help see a Doppleganger's true form.

He then heads for the library, first to look up what such a spell might be. (Spellcraft=34)

Arm
Monday October 13th, 2008 8:26:49 AM

Arm gathers up what he needs for a good and appropriae disguise, then heads out (undisguised) with Shadow. Instructing him to keep a keen eye open, he searches for an alley with both ends open. After finding one, he quickly dons his disguise and says, "Let us check up on our Council friends, shall we?". He then heads to the nearest address that was given to them.

Shadow  d20+9=20 ;
Monday October 13th, 2008 1:42:26 PM

Shadow will keep an eye out as he and Arm leave the manor. He will follow along occasionally falling back to see if he can tell if they are being followed. When he sees Arm move into the alleyway he will keep watch while he changes. Once Arm is done, Shadow will follow suit and move into the alleyway and done his disguise.

He will remain silent but nod his approval to the now disguised Arm.

At the Church/Library/Foreign Quarter/and the Nobleman Quarter
Monday October 13th, 2008 2:14:19 PM

The acolyte motions to someone out of sight, and another younger acolyte appears. "Please show these guests to Father Kidel's meeting room and then please summon him." As the younger acolyte moves off the other acolyte is turning to do something when Julien makes his inquiry. The acolyte shows a slight bit of surprise at the request but moves towards the back pews of the main sanctuary. He indicates Julien should have a seat and then he joins him. "Please tell me how you have been trained to repel the undead."

Kristen and Thar follow the younger acolyte through a door and then down a short corridor that seems to parallel the main sanctuary of the church. He then leads them through yet another door into a fairly small room that has a small table with four chairs around it. "Please have a seat while I fetch Father Kidel." He waits for them to be seated then moves through a door on the opposite side of a door that looks to probably lead back into the sanctuary. A few minutes later an elderly man that still bears himself with confidence enters, "I am father Kidel, how may I be of service to you?" He moves to a seat but does not sit.

-----------------------
Edmund heads to the library in search of something to be able to detect the dopplegangers. While he is searching he comes across a description of a gem that would do the trick "True Sight Diamond" which seems particularly expensive once he reads what it does. It does however give him some hope that he might stumble across a spell that might do the same. (Let me know if and how you continue to search.)

----------------------
Wynum (I guess alone) heads to the foreign quarter to investigate the three councilmen. He comes across a group of elves that seem to be headed in the opposite direction that Wynum is. He stops them to ask if any of them might know where to find councilmen Lynom. One of the elves looks up at Wynum and there seems to be a bit of surprise when the elf registers exactly who just asked him a question. The elf quickly recovers and nods his head slightly, "Well met sir Wynum, I don't believe we would be much help in search, but you might check out if any of the locals over there might know something." He indicates an establishment that appears to be a tavern.

------------------
Arm and Shadow make it to the Nobleman Quarter without apparantly being followed. Once in their disguises they head to the home of Councilman Gibard to check it out. They arrive at a very large estate that is very well maintained, and notice that there does not appear to be anyone at home presently (or they turn in very early)

Wynum (late post)
Monday October 13th, 2008 5:31:29 PM

Wynum sighs and bows down to Kadaz after the elves' reply.
"You think we can find about the address in here? I don't feel very much at ease in those places. What do you think?"

Edmund  d20+12=26 ;
Monday October 13th, 2008 9:18:02 PM

Edmund reads up everything he can on the nature of True Sight Diamonds and how they are used. He is aware, after all, that they have bottles made of the very finest diamond.

At once he sets to work trying to figure out how they are made, and who could make such a thing. Perhaps, with the diamond material already in their possession, the Mithril Order might be able to obtain a True Sight Diamond for a discount price! (OOC: Not sure of the appropriate rolls here, guessing that it would be Spellcraft (as before) or Know: Arcana) (Knowledge Arcana: 26)

Julian (small size)
Monday October 13th, 2008 10:27:49 PM

"Well, back in Angel Springs, up north in the Crescent Valley, at the Temple of Domi, they taught me to command them back to... whereever it is that they come from. I still prefer to hammer them back in to the dirt, but sometimes it is 'more approriate', as Kendry would've said.
Julian pauses, but only for a breath, "I guess Kendry knew a lot more about undead than I do because one time a hobgoblin, that he was friends with, came back to us as a zombi, a messenger for a necromancer up there. Kendry was still trying to be friendly and wouldn't allow me to just chunk it into pieces. Still, he needed to be destroyed and I think it was Tobias and Podo that fixed him, and Kendry insisted that we 'bury' the hobgoblin zombie in a tree. I guess that is something important to do for zombies, or maybe for hobgoblins, or was it for allies who fell in battle.
"So, that is what I know about turning undead. That, and," raising his voice now in a crescendo, "yelling at them, and feeling the battle rage well up inside and forcing it out through my Domi symbol here." Julian acts this last part out, and if he wasn't only 3'6" he might appear to be intimidating the acolyte. Instead, he is just rather noisy in a quiet and holy place.

Arm
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 5:57:10 AM

Finding an inconspicuous spot, Arm murmurs to Shadow, "Well, what do you think? No one seems to be home, but that may not be true. I don't think it wise we make a frontal assault at this time, so should we stand by for a while or move on to the next abode?".

Kadaz
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 6:56:02 AM

Kadaz has chosen to back up Wynum. While the centaur questions the elves, Kadaz stays in the background, watching to see if anything seems amiss. Once the elves leave Kadaz moves up to Wynum. "I can understand your reluctance, these inns certainly aren't built for those as large as you. I'm willing to go in and ask about Lynom. But I'd appreciate it if you could stay just outside and be ready to help if trouble arises. OK? And let's practice those finger recognition signals once more. Don't want you to think I've been replaced."

Birdie sniffs the air. It's time for supper and he knows from experience that buildings with people and noise often have food, too.

Kadaz and Birdie enter the tavern and take a seat. He will try to quietly question the server (while ordering ale for himself and a bit of meat for Birdie) about where one might find Lynom.

Thar
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 9:30:59 AM

Thar stands and offers his hand in greeting to the priest. "Hello Father, I am Father Thar from the temple to YHWH, over on the other side of town. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us today. Next to me is Kirsten, valiant Paladin. She and I have been on a quest to destroy evil and were mostly successful. However, We recently discovered a few items filled with Woldsblood and do not have the ability to cleanse these items. Your name was given to us by Rabbitsfoot from the city guard. Could you help us with removing the taint of evil from them? The lady, I and my temple will be in your debt, Father."

Tavern in the Foreign Quarter
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 9:44:45 AM

(Assuming Wynum agrees to be the watch outside the tavern) Kadaz questions the waitress as he orders. She takes a look at him a little confused but then says very quietly, "Well you might want to ask Frannie over there she seems to have some opinions about the councilman and might just know where to find him." She indicates a woman sitting by herself over a meal eating very quickly.

Wynum outside does not see anything out of the ordinary even though he is in the foreign quarter.

The Library/The Church/Noble Quarter
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 10:13:49 AM

(OOC: Well I was going to do posts individually, but I don't think that will work so here they are all together)

Edmund had stumbled upon an object that they could use, but he continues searching for anything that might help. The first spell that seems it might work he comes across is 'Wizard Sight' but he soon discards that because he is not sure the dopplegangers are truly wizards. As he continues he comes across a spell that is probably used to make the diamond called 'True Sight' after reading through the description a couple of times he is sure that this will work. Now all he needs is to find someone that knows the spell.

----------
"Please sir, we need to keep it down this is a place of worship." He looks around and it does seem that there are a couple of citizens praying, but they had only looked back to see what was going on and have already turned around and continue to pray. "We are taught similarly with a little bit of a difference. We are taught to focus all of our faith into the symbol of our god and mentally picture our god removing the evil that has brought the abomination into existance."

----------
"I will need to see these items and determine the taint that is in them first to be able to tell best how to take care of them." He waits while the two produce the vials. (I assume that they bring the vials out.) He will first only look at the vials and then will mutter a prayer and then concentrate even more on the vials. "There is a very nasty taint on three of these vials. The other three are just what they seem to be. I will need to keep these vials for a couple of days to remove the taint that is in them, but I believe I can do it even though the taint is extremely strong. I would also require a donation to the church to perform the rites."

----------
Shadow and Arm have no immediate luck at their current location and are contemplating moving on when they see someone turn up the walkway to the front of the house. The person seems to fumble around with something, but then opens the door. A few minutes later the person must me moving around the house lighting candles/lamps because most of the windows now show lights through them.

Wynum

Indeed the centaur takes guard, standing back a little and observring the Inn's entrance from a distance. He seems absorbed in thoughts and paces a bit about.

Thar
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 2:04:27 PM

Thar nods and looks at Kirsten, making a sign that implies if she has detected evil on the Father. If no evil is detected, he agrees to loan the Father the tainted vials. "Thank you very much Father for your service. I must emphasize, however, the need for discretion in this matter. With evil items like these, some forces of evil and malice surely would like to get their hands on them."

"We would be willing to either make a donation or perform a service, depending on which kind of need is greater for your church. What sort of donation did you have in mind?"

Kirsten
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 2:08:17 PM

Kirsten, once they are in the presence of the priest, will use her ability to detect evil and concentrate while Thar converses with him.

If she detects no evil she will nod somewhat at Thar and add, "My friend is right, we appreciate your discretion and would be more than willing to help you in whatever way you need."

Kadaz
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 5:32:36 PM

Kadaz thanks his server and leave a generous tip. He walks over to Frannie and asks "Excuse me for interrupting. But I am concerned about Lynom and was told you may be able to help me." He looks at her carefully, waiting for a sign before sitting down.

Birdie, gnawing on a bit of gristle, has followed Kadaz and is sniffing for anything interesting under the table.

Edmund
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 5:54:14 PM

After reading up on the spell of True Seeing, Edmund realises that he will not be able to cast such a spell himself until he has progressed much farther in his studies ((True Seeing is L.6, Edmund can only cast up to L.4)). As such, he makes a note of all the information and returns to Mithril Manor to await the return of the others.

Once the others return, Edmund will relate what he has discovered about the spell of True Seeing and the way to make a Diamond of True Seeing. He will then attempt to convince the others to use at least some of the diamond from the bottles for this purpose, and will ask them where they can find the means to get this done--perhaps the Catacombs?

Julian (small size)
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 12:07:57 AM

"So, like picturing Domi with a big, a huge sword, just, like, cleaving them all down in one go?"

Julian thinks for a bit, "So, it is really Domi doing the work?"

Arm  d20+13=18 ; d20+7=27 ;
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 6:00:18 AM

Before Shadow leaves, Arm says to him, "Are you certain that you want to go alone? I'd feel much better if I accompany you.". If he agrees to let him follow, Arm will keep a close eye and ear open for any trouble. If not, he will do the same, but from where he is. (listen=18, spot=27, nat. 20).

Shadow
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 9:29:59 AM

Shadow shakes his head as Arm offers to follow, "I have been trained for this type of work, and although you are much better than the rest of the order you still are not 'stealthy' enough." With that Shadow will move off towards the back of the house.

The Church/Foreign Quarter Tavern/The Mithril Manor/Nobleman Quarter
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 9:49:02 AM

Kristen nods at Thar since she can only detect the evil taint on the vials and nothing else even gives off a speck of evil. This really is a holy place of worship (you never know). "Oh, discretion is always advisable when you are dealing with evil on this level, and you can be assured by my god that I will not discuss this with even my own faithful. As for the donation it is always up to those that want a service to determine what it is that they feel is necessary for the service." He rises from his chair taking the three vials out of the case and setting them on a cloth that he produces from a drawer that is in a cabinet that has a depiction of the god (sorry I don't know which god Janell planned on using here). He pushes the container back towards Thar indicating he should take the non-tainted ones with him. "If there is nothing more I would like to get started on removing this vial taint that should not have been allowed to be created." Thar and Kristen take that as a dismissal.

-----------
Wynum is lost in thought as he paces a little bit in front of the tavern as he waits for Kadaz to finish up.

Kadaz approaches the woman named Frannie and indicates he would like to hear about Lynom. As the woman registers that there is someone asking her something she looks up and when Kadaz says Lynom her eyes light up. "Well you might want to have seat there young man because this might take some time." The woman says quite loudly. Not even waiting to see if he takes a seat Frannie begins talking still quite loudly as if she wants the whole tavern to hear what she is saying, "Lynom has been acting very strangely lately, but it is not just him but his new buddies - Mobec and Saisset, too. They all seem to be taking many different sides over almost all issues but recently they have all agreed about everything, not just most things but everything. Everyone knows that at last month's Council meeting the three were openly trading verbal disagreements about financing the cities annual Flloyd parade. Then, last week the three of them show up practically holding hands and not only agreeing on the parade, but actually providing funding out of their own pockets." The last part of that she says in a near shrill.

----------
Edmund makes it back to the manor and noone is present, so he decides to wait. (OOC: Just so you know I don't think you could use the vials for the actual diamond, but they would be useable to purchase a diamond for the true seeing device.)

----------
Shadow takes off to move around behind the house and Arm notices that he does not make any noise as he passes out of sight. Shadow does not notice anything out of the ordinary as he makes his circuit around the house. Meanwhile, Arm is still monitoring the front of the house and he sees a man approach the walkway to the house. He pauses, shakes his head, and moves off down the lane.

Wynum
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 10:11:40 AM

Nervously peering through one of the inn's windows from time to time, Wynum continues pacing, thinking hard. His attention however is sometimes caught by exotic sights from the foreign quarter. If by chance he spots a Centaur, he will rush to him or her.

Thar  d20+6=24 ;
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 11:00:39 AM

Thar thanks the priest for his help and leaves the temple. Once they are outside and in a place that is quiet, he asks Kirsten "Well, it sounds like we've got a few days to wait on the vials. Should we head back to the manor? I know that other groups are working on various tasks and we could help with them. If we go back to the manor, we can get a status update."

While walking, he'll try to remember what this sort of service (i.e. cleansing the vials) would cost in terms of a donation. He's sure he has heard talk in the temple of these types of rituals and hopes he can recall a reasonable figure.

Edmund
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 11:23:51 AM

As no one is around, Edmund puts the kettle on and pours a bath.

Julian (small size)
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 6:15:35 PM

Julian muses over this new info for a moment. His eyes begin to light up as realisation dawns on him, when he spies Kristen and Thar leaving.
"Thanks for your help," he says jumping up and walking out briskly, "I'll be sure to use that. Gotta go. Thanks."

Outside: "Back to the Manor sounds good. Get something to eat, and an update. And regroup."

Kadaz
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 6:47:33 PM

Kadaz sits down and listens intently to Frannie's story. "Lynom, Mobec and Saisset, acting together. That is a bit odd." he adds in agreement. "Do those three have anything in common, like visiting the same baths, or living nearby, or anything like that?" he asks, trying to trace back where they might have been replaced. Kadaz keeps his voice low, trying to inspire Frannie to be a little more quiet.

Arm  d20+13=18 ; d20+7=21 ;
Thursday October 16th, 2008 6:00:23 AM

Arm cocks his head to the right a bit, perplexed by the stranger's actions. Still worried for Shadow, he continues his vigilance (listen=18, spot=21).

Kirsten
Thursday October 16th, 2008 12:32:22 PM

Kirsten nods at Thar's suggestion, "Yeah, let's head back to the manor to see if the other's have found anything."

She will accompany Thar back, hoping the others are having good luck with their own searches.

Shadow
Thursday October 16th, 2008 2:01:53 PM

Shadow makes his way silently back to Arm, "Well nothing of note around the outside of the house. Is there anything you notice? What should we do now?"

Shadow
Thursday October 16th, 2008 2:12:38 PM

Kristen, Thar and Julian head back to the manor, and arrive in time to see Edmund appear from taking a bath.

-----------
Wynum paces nervously outside the tavern, but sees nothing either going on inside or outside to make him be any more concerned.

Kadaz tries to both get more information out of Frannie and to try and calm her down. She will have none of it and actually raises her voice even more as she continues, "And there's more...much more. Why I know a stableman who knows a midwife, who knows a nightwatchman who saw Councilmen Lynom down by the river drowning a sack full of puppies just for fun! Of course, the nightwatchman hasn't shown up for duty for the couple of days...isn't that sooo odd?! And I heard that Charlene saw Councilman Saisset passing by a black cat without so much as throwing salt over her shoulder. But everyone knows that Saisset is **very** careful about matters involving luck."

----------
Arm and Shadow converse outside the manor for quite some time and they have not seen anything out of the ordinary. The only thing they could comment on from where they are is when the lights change from one room to another as someone moves around the house.

DM Post (ADM Scott) - last post should have been titled something other than Shadow sorry :(
Thursday October 16th, 2008 2:13:33 PM

Last post was the DM post.

Thar
Thursday October 16th, 2008 4:55:55 PM

Seeing Edmund taking a both, Thar mentions with a grin to Kirsten that he's not sure what's worse, the sight he just saw or facing the Count in their previous adventure. He then yells something at Edmund about scaring the children and common decency and whatever other humorous anecdotes he can think of.

Once done harassing Edmund, he fills in the rest of the group about what was discussed at the temple and how they will be able to pick up the items in a few days. He's not sure what the cost is, but will let them know once he can remember what those types of items cost...

Arm
Friday October 17th, 2008 5:56:45 AM

Arm tells Shadow about the odd visitor, then says, "Well, shall we move on to the next address or should we call it a night?".

OOC: I assume by the fact that candles are lit in the house that it is in fact nighttime? :)

Edmund
Friday October 17th, 2008 1:43:08 PM

Edmund is somewhat upset by Thar's protestations because, of course, Edmund always wears a linen shift when he bathes, as is proper for a gentleman. What's more, wrapped in a robe over pyjamas when he emerged from the bath room, Edmund was hardly indecent. ((I think Thar saw Edmund after he came from the bath, not when he was in it. :p ))

Nevertheless, once Edmund has dressed, he pops in and relates the situation with the True Seeing spell, and the way to obtain a Diamond of the same. He then inquires as to whether the Catacombs might be the place to go in this regard.

Kadaz
Saturday October 18th, 2008 11:42:49 AM

As Frannie's diatribe increases in volume and decreases in sense, Kadaz decides he's heard enough. "I'm glad you're alert enough to pick up on their changes. Thank you for your information." He leaves some money for his drink and goes outside.

"Wynum, that woman certainly believes the council man has changed his personality drastically recently. She also says the same is true for

He looks around for the inn. He then looks around for two other, Mobec and Saissec." We need to find the others and regroup. Any other ideas? Or shall we head home? And by the way, how are you at stairs? We have some spare rooms but they are upstairs, I think."

Birdie is gnawing on a bone in his mouth but watches Wynum carefully. He is still not used to to a talking horse and is wary in case this new one likes bones too.

Arm
Monday October 20th, 2008 5:55:01 AM

Arm gives the house one last look before he heads off with Shadow, either back to the manor or on to the next address.

Wynum
Monday October 20th, 2008 9:49:16 AM

(OOC: Evil typechangers destroyed part of your post, Kadaz. Just make sure we didn't miss an important bit.)

Wynum seems slightly vexated by Kadaz' comment.
"Well, I am... quite an adept climber. I fear little of... stairs and other such obstacles. It is known our kind have a fear of heights, but I am well travelled and in my journeys I have even once climbed up on a tree. But this is a feat I would retell later. For now I agree we should regroup at the manor. I don't think this changers will follow us any more. Also, I have a plan to suggest."

Shadow
Monday October 20th, 2008 2:23:59 PM

"I say we regroup at the manor to find out if anyone has any better information." Shadow says to Arm. He hopes his companion is in agreement.

Back at the Manor
Monday October 20th, 2008 2:39:35 PM

During the next hour everyone makes it back to the manor and start discussing what they have found out.

(OOC: Please formulate your next moves. Thar, I did leave the cost kind of open ended for our DM to determine when she gets back. I hope she gets back soon because I am running out of material she gave me. LOL)

Arm
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 5:58:21 AM

Arm nods his agreement to Shadow and heads back with him to the Manor. Once there he awaits the reports of the others and will try to formulate a plan from there.

OOC: Don't worry, we can always play Battleship until our DM gets back...here, I'll start...D-7 ;)

Kadaz
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 6:29:04 AM

Kadaz talks to Wynum on the way home. "So what do you think of Plateau City so far? It's a big city with a lot going on. But if you think of it as a number of small places, just close together, it helps a bit."

Wynum
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 10:05:24 AM

Encompassing the grand city with a gaze, Wynum responds:
"You're right Kadaz, It is indeed small and cramped. I miss the wide dirt streets of my home town. That pavement is so uncomfortable!"

Back at the manor, Wynum listen to the other's inquiries. When everybody's finished, he opens a book and embarks in an explanation.

"I have considered the situation. It seems difficult to find the councilmen, and also we risk alerting some changers of our action, and they may protect themselves, foiling our plan. So I have a suggestion to make.

"We know they know we found these vials. Maybe we could ask Rabbitsfoot to raise the issue during a council meeting: he could explain to the council that he has received the charge of the vials, inform the council of their threat, and tell them he will transfer them to a secure place at some point, insisting on the high level of protection that will be deployed.

"First, this will allow some of us to discreetly follow the suspect councilmen back to their home.

"Second, we can guess they will believe this story - they heard it firsthand from us - and probably attempt to intercept the vials. The hope is that they will commit important resources to that end. We, of course, will set up an ambush to capture many of them.

"Another option is to replace the convoy with an undercover agent or two, responsible to carry fake vials. Then we let the changers steal them and we follow those to their lair."

(OOC: DM, just use the filler trick: "Suddenly, four hooded figures appear in the street... Roll initiative."!)

Edmund
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 12:20:15 PM

Once everyone is back, Edmund explains the situation with the 'Diamond of True Seeing' one more time.

"I think such a thing would be of great use--and the more, the better. With Dopplegangers infiltrating every aspect of the city, we need a way to find out who is who."

Kirsten
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 1:13:56 PM

"Diamond of True Seeing, huh?" the paladin frowns somewhat. "It sounds expensive, but is no doubt a better alternative to finding out one of our friends is a doppleganger... or worse."

Thar
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 1:59:23 PM

Thar listens to the discussion and is intrigued by Ed's suggestion. "That's a great idea Ed. Like Kirsten said, it is expensive. However, she is right that it's the best alternative."

To Wynum, he adds "I like the idea of an ambush, but we need some way to prevent them from using their friends bracelet. That little trick allowed them to get away and I'm not in a mood to let that happen again. Anyway, I still think we need to sell the vials and get rid of them for good. Once the evil is gone, they'll be of little use to the dopplegangers, or so I hope."

Julian (small size)
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 9:04:41 PM

Julian listens, and nods where he thinks he should.

"So, you'll tell me who to hit, okay?"

Arm
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 6:18:26 AM

Arm smiles and nods at Wynum's plan, "That sounds like an excellent idea, my friend! As I've said before, we've been on the defensive for too long in this..just waiting around to repel an attack on us. They won't be expecting us to turn the tables on THEM..I'm all for it!".

Shadow
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 9:28:07 AM

Shadow listens intently and can not really think of adding anything to Wynum's plan. "As for the cost of this device that would allow us to make sure of who is who, I for one think it would be worth the expense. Especially if we could offset the cost with the vials, once we know they could be safely sold."
