Vorelle groans a little as she surveys the water, but she is a Grubber from Dirt City and has probably waded through worse. Steeling herself, she dips below the surface. [Fort 14]
She tries to figure out, from the shifting patterns of silt and water, where the dragons may have had their lair. [Search 18; Survival (track) 35]
DM Jamie Wednesday October 29th, 2008 12:33:25 AM Malgant, Vorelle, and Vauhwyt disappear beneath the icky blackness of the pond. Those of you watching loose them shortly after they enter. The pond is only about 8 feet deep unitl you get about 15 feet out from shore and then it drops drastically down.
As you are all mucking about Malgant Highlight to display spoiler: { A voice manifests in your mind. "Your brood has killed my children, but you showed restraint and great wisdom at the onset. Your brood are all cowards and I will give you a chance to honourable combat, in the clearing on the other side of the island, near the beach. No magik, pure melee. The victor keeps the magic of the slain, the losers take the bodies and leave, never to come back. Refuse and you will never leave the island alive."}
The rest of you wait up top side and either clean or keep an eye on both the skies overhead and the dense jungle surrounding you. Their seems to be no activity in the forest.
Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Wednesday October 29th, 2008 6:37:44 AM
Not sure if this link is two way or not, Malgant knows the response he will recieve when he brings this to his friends up top. Concentrating on the sending, he thinks " I accept your challenge, the other most likely will too. I would prefer to find out why the lake is being poisoned and stop it without a fight, like I would have prefered with the young ones here, but they were headstrong and too sure of themselves and offered only the options to fight or retreat. The forest will soon go mad from the acid poisoning it so retreat was not an option for us." Emerging from the water after a few minutes of scouring the pool Malgant looks a bit shaken. Clearing his throat as the rest gather round he explains what was in the pool. " The 'mother' dragon is able to speak through minds. She.... she has offered us a deal. She is angry about us destroying her brood, and wants to fight. There is a clearing on the other side of the island. She proposes a fight, to the death, with martial skill alone. No magic. If we refuse she hunts us and kills us as we try to leave the island. In her words, "Your brood has killed my children, but you showed restraint and great wisdom at the onset. Your brood are all cowards and I will give you a chance to honourable combat, in the clearing on the other side of the island, near the beach. No magik, pure melee. The victor keeps the magic of the slain, the losers take the bodies and leave, never to come back. Refuse and you will never leave the island alive." I accepted for myself, what do you all think? I think that without protective magic we will die easily to her acid breath even if she holds to the bargain and does not use magic, which she apparently can from the sending."

[OOC: The spell we are using for communication is a simple Message cantrip. It transmits your words to Vauhwyt and Mookie, and we then speak them to everyone else. I'm assuming that water breathing lets you talk nornally under water.]
Vauhwyt keeps looking deeper into the pit of the pond. She also passes along Malgant's words. She says, "No deal."
"The immortal powers that sent us here did not invite us to an arm-wrestling match! The question is not 'Can we win with one hand tied around our backs?' We came here to use our full strength to destroy a family of dragons that were the source of great evil. I for one shall continue to do so, and I expect everyone else here will too."
"Have we forgotten the death we have seen so far? The lake poisoned? The froggies and their butchery? I don't know yet how a dragon can poison a vast lake, or how the froggies fit into this puzzle, but I know I didn't come this far to make a deal and fight with half my strength. I came here to make things right!"
As she speaks, she also keeps scanning the deeper recesses of the pool.

Wel that was mum , we have to fight, but no magic? i'm a fighter but i like some back up from some good spellcasters. Her breath is almost like a spell and the natural weopon od a spellcaster are his spells or not?
Aztyr (58/58 hp, 25 AC and Jynx (29 hp, 18 AC)" Wednesday October 29th, 2008 2:05:59 PM
Aztyr listens and holds her comments for a while. When she talks it is after having considered everything. "If you take the offer at face value, no magic could also mean no magic items as well. And me trying to fight without useing magic would be like throwing a baby chick to a wolf pack and calling it a fair fight. I haven't faught without magic in at least 10 years, my melee skills are as rusty as my tracking skills. I also bet that there is no way whatever or whoever offered that deal, will even let Lorth get close, so unless you can fly without magic, we'll be useing bows against it."

Appolo smiles at his friends as they return"Welsome back.Glad to see you made it."he says.Then Malgant makes his report.She's wrong you know.There is no such things as a fair fight. We meet her head on with everything we got.You know.You Lorth and Bart fight her head on keep her attention.Vall makes a pin cushion out of her and Aztyr Vuaghwyt hammer her wth whatever magic they got.While I attack from behind and attampt to gut her likea pig."

" I have no illusion that it would be a fai fight if we were to not fight with magic. Good as we are I think the outcome is a given. A creature that can fly out of our each and continue to pelt us with jets of acid would most certainly win. However, denying the battle straight up means that the fight will occur when we least expect it, when we are least prepared to deal with it. At least meeting the dragon on a field of her choosing at an appointed time allows us to be ready. It also allows us to possibly come to an agreement with what is surely a much more powerful dragon than the ones we just fought, which were, regrettably, mere babes." Malgant was trobled by the wording of the challenge as well. no spells could mean alot of things. It could mean no direct magic during the fight in an offensive way. It could mean no magic during the fight at all, such as no healing. Or it could mean no magic altogether meaning no way to resist her acidic breath or to pursue her should she take to the air. All of them made Malgant uneasy. Magic was as much of a weapon as his sword was to him.

Between you all you are either mucking in the pond or along the shore keeping an eye out. Both are noble pastimes and need to be done in order to find closure in your current situation. The bottom of the pond reveals nothing. Some of you even have a hard time as the muck seems to hold onto you as you try to get back to the surface. Those on the shore begin to hear wildlife returning to the area. Nothing grandeos, but at least you can hear critters in the forest again. Not the deadly calm that was permeating the forest when you arrived.
Malgant Highlight to display spoiler: {Once again you hear the familiar voice that seems to twist up you spine like a snake, "I can see you are unsure of your own abilities. To make it fairer I will contact you again in 24 hours to rest and make a decision. However, if you in any way attempt to search for me or my lair during this time, all parley are off and I will use the full knowledge of MY island to ensure your death. And as far as magic... It is your spellcasters that cannot be within spell range of those fighting the duel." She pauses and her tone changes. She is very confident. "Again, the island is mine and all that are upon are as well. If it were my desire, you would spend a lifetime searching for nought, as I consume one of you at a time while you rest." Her tone becomes more decisive. "Remember, I need no rest and finding the likes of you would be as easy as a gem floating in mid air. This will be our only chance of what I feel would be civilized combat."}

"Mal you better think about this. From what you relayed she gave you the choice of combat, not the rest of us. It could very well be you against the dragon without your healing magic. I'm not sure this is such a good idea. it seems we loose no matter what we do."

As to my useing weapons, After so long casting, I know which end of the sword to hold, but my accuracy is not what it might have once been...."
