An appeal to Gargul

Preparing the Spell[DM SteveK]
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 1:12:34 PM

More introductions are made, some initial talk about treasure disbursement, and the discovery that Rash is also marked with the CoC's Broken Spiral Tattoo!

A day of organizing the treasure, mourning Shadow, laying out Savin and Kazak, mothballing Krilanos' body, and flaying the dragon's skin brings the Children of Chaos through another day and night and the morning dawns with Rash completing her spell preparations for raising Savin and Kazak.

......................

When the Children are ready, Rash casts her spell and implores all the Powers to allow the COCs supplication to reach the ears and heart of the Power who has Life and Death. For a moment, nothing happens, the sun still shines, and a light breeze dances across the grasses. And then...

For Peerimus, Firn'gaer, Trace, Durgan, Jurgen, and Rash; the Valley washes out like watercolors in the sun until the scene fades to a deep gray nothingness. Superimposed upon the gray everywhere are bright red ribbons of liquid color, all moving toward some unspecified location in the distance. The heroes have an innate sense that they are safe... as long as they do not touch a blood-red ribbon.

All the red ribbons are about waist-high to a human, but soon one of the ribbons develops a leak and instead of going towards the far horizon, it falls down, disappearing in a new direction. Immediately, a puff of smoke appears near the 'leak' and stepping out is an imp in coveralls and a tool belt. "Boss isn't going to like this..." he begins and then notices the Children of Chaos.

"Hey! What are you doing here? You're not scheduled to show up until later! Go, turn around, and talk to the Boss. Oh, and be reeeeaaal nice, OK? He's not having the best time right now."

Turning around, the blood-red ribbons fade, and the Children of Chaos are standing before a tall grey featureless figure. Standing next to the figure are ghostly apparitions of Savin and Kazak.

It appears the heroes must make the next move.

ooc: Savin and Kazak can post/talk

Durgan
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 3:16:16 PM

before the spell is cast... "I have a request for all of ye. No one tells me brother I shed tears fer him. Wouldn't be proper dwarf behavior. Plus, I couldn't stand the ribbing he'd give me."

"Greetings to ye Gargul, great and powerful lord of this place. Forgive our intrusion, but it looks as though we are here ta ask fer yer help once again. One of our friends met with the business end of a dragon's bad breath, and the other had a bit of bad luck from a pinched nerve. The last time we saw ye, we asked for help for another, but this time it is more personal. This time we ask that ye return our friend and me brother to us. There is much evil in this Wold, and we aim to continue to put the kibosh on as much of it as we can. Savin and Kazak can help with this."

"Please return Savin to us, and please", a tear rolls down Durgan's cheek "return me brother to me."

Rash Trinka
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 3:42:24 PM

Rash drops to her knees and bows to the Power named Gargul. "Gargul, thank you for receiving my prayer and allowing us the honor to plead for our friends to be returned to us. They fell fighting fighting chaos and evil and sacrificed their own lives to save others and stop a war. I humbly beseech you to return them to their glory to honor your name."

Jurgen
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 4:15:17 PM

As Jurgen is moved through the magic of the spell, he feels a sense of dread. If the Children were meeting with the Crones, Jurgen would feel on par with them. It wasn't that the Crones were weak, but they were actually players in the state of the Wold. They had a vested interest in the Southern Continent. Even Domi would be easier to meet with. The God of Courage had called upon Jurgen to the paladin-hood. There was a distinct connection between Jurgen and Domi, even here on the Southern Continent. The Woldian Gods had, for the most part, little place in Southern life. But Gargul still controlled the end of life and as such, there was no side-stepping a conversation with him.

Jurgen drops to one knee at the sight of the grey figure. Durgan is the first to speak and the paladin keeps his head down, listening and waiting for his chance. "Gargul, Master over life and death. We come to you knowing that all creatures come to you eventually. The cycle of birth to life to death leaves us all in your grasp. Even us, who come to ask for your favour, will one day reach the end of that path and succumb to your will. But today, we are here for your permission and guidance in returning two of our allies to the living Wold." He pauses a moment to look at the ghostly figures of Savin and Kazak. "We ask that you return Kazak and Savin to us so that we are able to continue on with our fight on the Southern Continent..."

The paladin wants to include a comment about the evils of undeath, knowing that Gargul would approve. But he cannot find a way to slip it into the request and, instead, remains silent on it.

Firn'gaer
Tuesday October 7th, 2008 8:09:14 PM

Firn'gaer is taken back by the display that plays out before him. Without conscious thought he finds himself bowing before the presence of the Lord of the Dead. "My lord, I have not the words to eloquently say what it is that I wish to say; so, I will say that Savin and Kazak are still needed in the land of the living. If it would be your will and there wish to return, then I beseech you, my lord, to return them to us."

Trace
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 12:34:16 AM

Trace kneels before the lord of death and keeps quite and shows what support he can. He truly hopes his friends return, loosing Shadow and them would be too much. He knows without their return all the death would put him in an eteranl mornfull state. He needs something to hold onto, something to rejoice.

HE[DM SteveK]
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 11:58:14 AM

The Gray One stands unmoving as the Children of Chaos bring thier bows, thier kneels, their voices before him. The sounds of movement and voice are clear, but do not echo, and are quickly lost to the surrounding gray silence, the death of sound. And then two eyes open on the gray figure, reflecting like all the stars of the universe. Then the voice is added to the disturbing eyes, issuing from within each mind. A voice that any would choose never to hear, but will miss forever when it is gone.

"I DO NOT ASK FOR HOMAGE, I DO NOT ASK FOR PRAISE, I DO NOT ASK FOR WORSHIP; YET THESE THINGS ARE WHAT YOU BRING BEFORE ME."

It strikes you to your heart then. This is a god before you. Not a monster, not a creature, not a mortal. Beyond the scope of any Power that the Children have ever encountered, even Ebyron's Avatar and the Five Crones. You, a group of small mortals, specks to that which is before you just summoned up the presence of THIS to try and ask for his attention. What foolishness!

(Will checks of 35 to not be visibly afraid)

The Children of Chaos stand and kneel before the large gray figure who has the eyes of the night sky while whole worlds die and become within thier orbs. The horrible voice that you will miss forever but you feel has always been there in your head speaks again.

"WHY SHOULD I HATE EVIL OR GOOD? WHAT DO I CARE FOR LAW OVER CHAOS? I AM LIFE AS WELL AS DEATH, AND ALL THESE CONCEPTS ARE NECESSARY FOR THE ORDER AND CHANGE OF DEATH AND LIFE."

The universal eyes look at the ghostly forms of Savin and Kazak.

"WHY DO YOU WANT THESE TWO? BOTH RUSHED INTO BATTLE HEEDLESS OF THE CONSEQUENCES, IGNORING THE LIVING SUPPORT OF OTHERS. THIER DEATH SERVES YOU AS AN EXAMPLE, BUT THIER LAST ACTIONS IN LIFE SERVED NOTHING."

The Gray One includes the souls of Savin and Kazak in his next question, and all the Children feel the need to search thier motivations and answer...

"WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE IN YOUR LIVES AS A PRICE FOR RETURN OF THESE TWO?"

Firn'gaer  d20+14=21 ;
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 5:35:13 PM

Firn'gaer is visibly afraid.

He searches his motivations and reflects and then answers. "I would change nothing in my life as a price for their return. Change in my life is not my reason for coming before you to request their lives."

"I ask for their return only for this. These marks that we have been gifted and cursed with have for better or worse made all of us family of sorts. It is in this family that we live, laugh, cry, bleed, and even die together. We have lost many of our family, our brother and sisters, in the pursuit of their meaning and our purpose for having them. So I ask not as a traveling companion, but I ask as a brother to both. I ask as family look for the return of his siblings."

"I would change my life for their return, but if it a price that must be paid, then I would pay it. If you demand a life in return, then I would give you mine."

Jurgen  d20+14=34 ;
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 6:46:43 PM

The voice of Gargul passes through Jurgen and, surprisingly enough, does not shake him [Natural 20. Booyah]. Whether his faith in Domi protects him or his life's experiences help him, the paladin is not shaken by the Gray Lord. A deep breath in and Jurgen feels calmness covering his body. Firn'gaer's words are strong and Jurgen places a hand on the gnome's shoulder as he speaks. Hearing the last of them, Jurgen bites down on his tongue, holding the urge to cry out.

"You ask for a change? Do you want Firn'gaer to give up his magic? Or Peerimus to give up his trees? Or me to give up the sword? What of us is open to change? Our entire lives are devoted to the protection of the Southern Continent. We are are agents of the Crones and we live at the beck and call of Chaos." He looks now, not at Gargul, but at his companions. "As Firn'gaer says, we are family. We Children are brothers," he looks at Rash and smiles softly, "and sisters. If you want a sacrifice of blood for blood, so be it. I, too, will lay down my life."

The paladin takes in the moment to be thankful for the family he had been blessed with. It takes a moment for him to realize just how worthwhile that cause was. More important than their Chaos powers. He softly nods his head and then turns back to Gargul. A touch of sadness fills his heart, as he realizes the only thing that he has to offer. More important to him than anything in the Wold, including his life, Jurgen was going to offer something greater. Kazak and Savin were well worth the price and yet Jurgen knew there would be an emptiness inside of him afterwards.

"I do not believe you want us to exchange ourselves for our companions. What use do you have for yet more souls? But, perhaps, I can give you something not so easily attained... A servant. I am both a Paladin and a Protector of Domi. I live in his name. In return for the life of my friends, I would devote my life to you..."

Durgan
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 10:26:35 PM

Whether Durgan is afraid or not, only Gargul knows because he doesn't show it.

"With a great deal of respect yer greatness, I must disagree with ye. The battle was forced upon us not the other way around. Kazak and Savin were not alone, we were all together. It could have been any one of us in their place, and in fact several of us almost joined em. None of us were heedless of consequences. We all met that battle head on because we knew the consequences were more than just win or lose. There were a great many others' lives at stake, and a war to try ta stop. And mebbe we did even stop it."

"And I say their last actions in life did serve something. Made me realize that these durned tattoos mean more than just an irritable itching sensation, more than just a reason why I can't go home, the tattoos mean family and home. And nuthin' is more important to a dwarf than his home."

"Ye ask me what I would change about meself? I would change anything ye asked me to. But that's not it is it? I would give my life for my brother, but I suppose ye already know that. I am Durgan Stonewall and I am who I am. I am a dwarf and dwarves are like the stone we live under. We don't change. You call us reckless? I call it a touch of the chaos that resides within."

"You know, now that I think about it, I know one thing I would change. Some of these fellers need a good dwarf bonk upside the head to learn from their mistakes in fighting Krilanos and the dragon."

Rash Trinka  d20+18=25 ;
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 11:20:36 PM

Rash trembles in fear as the God's words flow through her. She knows the power this deity possesses and how capricious his will could be. She unsteadily rises to her feet and says, "I have a husband and a family to return to, but something has drawn me to the group of heroes called the Children of Chaos. The powers that rule my life and give it meaning have chosen this path for me. You to are a god of the Wold and I respect and worship all of you equally. I gave up the path of adventure years ago but it seems I am needed again. I will leave my family, whom I love, to join this new family. Not for love of adventure but to protect both my old and my new family from the forces which wish to destroy the Wold and bring despair to all of its inhabitants."

Savin
Wednesday October 8th, 2008 11:25:28 PM

Savin hears the words of his new friends, old friends and this newest member of the Children of Chaos and steps forth. "Oh mighty Gargul! Hear my words. You want a sacrifice, then take me as your sacrifice. I will stay behind and serve you. Make me your vessel either in this Wold or some other, but let my friends and family leave in peace. I beg you to restore Kazak to his life. I have fought chaos and evil for many years and have skirted your embrace for many battles. It is my time to rest and find a new path either among the living or the dead. Kazak is still young as his kind reckon and he deserves the chance to find more wisdom. Please let him go."

The ghostly apparition of Kazak feels the presence of Gargul as he trembles in front of the God of life and death (d20+10=14 will save)

Listening as his friends speak for him and themselves ..... he finally adds his ghostly voice to the mix

"I thank all of you for speaking for Savin and myself ...... " as he manages a small smile at Durgans words .......Turning to face the God of Life and Death as he towers over them ..." change is a difficult thing to understand ... it is a ever changing thing ..... i do not have a ready answer for you my Lord .....
me brother and i came from a different time . ....but to change one needs time to understand why one needs to change ...... charging recklessly after the dragon was not heedless .... it was to save others .... my fellow dwarven brethern ......maybe my death will change how others perceive their lives and actions ....how and why they live and to what ends ...... all i ask is to try and continue helping others with my actions to help guide them thru life so they won't be foolish with their own lives and decisions "

Thursday October 9th, 2008 12:00:27 AM

The being before them speaks into his head and the urge to flee builds in his mind, yet the druid puts it aside. Thoughts of Quinn, of Savin and Kazak, of the Powers of the Southern lands and, of course Father and Mother Wold support his resolve. To stand firm and not waver in his own faith. It is then now that the words of the being before begin to take measure and the druid finds himself disagreeing with them and by habit more than anything else his head begins to tilt to the side in question. Question to himself as to the prudence of voicing his opinion that Gargul is wrong. That what he has heard from his friends, companions and yes family is incorrect. The tone about him feels wrong. Peerimus has been here before, and no he did not think this trip into the realm of shadow would be the same, but the tone is simply wrong to him. It quickly began to remind him of Shiraz, the demand for respect by mere presence or age. Respect that could not be given by the druid. Another dangerous thought.

A being that stands as the guardian of the dead and as the usher of new life surely can read the thoughts of a mortal. Durgan speaks and Peerimus finds his thoughts echoing along the same lines. Jurgens last words leave him horrified and he spins to him. "Are your convictions and promises so easily destroyed Jurgen?" His voice is calm but his tone is hard. Peerimus stares angrily at him. "Your life and call of faith so carelessly put aside?" Peerimus's jaw clenches as his teeth push hard together behind closed thinning lips. The words are hurtful and he knows what they must be doing to the man he would ever call brother and stand beside. He could not let Jurgen continue the thought now spoken.

Looking back to the others now he speaks again, "No one will give up thier life for that of Savin or Kazak. Not in this fashion. Not meaninglessly laid down. Our lives are OUR lives and yes if need be in the Wold to save another any of us would do so. But not like this. None of us would stand for such an act by another. Savin and Kazak would be alive yes but they would be destroyed for the knowledge of thier life's cost. It is an action of fruitlessness, one of waste and of selfishness and it shall not be done. That includes you two." The druid points towards Savin and Kazak. "There is no trade here of that nature. Savin if you wish to remain that is your choice and we will stand by you and ever call you brother nad look beyond the vale for your words of encouragement. But You will not lay down your responsibility to your family under the guise of seeking your well deserved rest and then take up the mantle of slave."

Peerimus looks to Gargul with far more calmness in his voice than the near shouting just launched at his fellows
"I must agree with Durgan in assuming a different position on the final actions of Savin and Kazak. Both acted by thier hearts, thier passion and desire to keep safe those they did not know to make the Wold about them better by thier own standards. You have said these things are meaningless to you and so there is no need for me to say more about that as it would be wasted. But I can defend thier actions, because Good, evil, order and Chaos do have meaning for us. It is how we are defined. It is why we act and it is what makes whole."

"Change in my life? I see and feel nothing that needs to be changed in the abscence of of evil versus good and that of absolute chaos versus order. My entire being is bound by these things and the existance of life and death do not have bearing upon them. I have taken life and I have nurtured life from the smallest and most fragile of stages. I will do both again as my heart wills as I can do nothing else. The last time I was before you was to correct a mistake, a life needlessly taken. That lesson was carried forward and is why we stand here again and ask about the lives of our own, instead of others."

Trace
Thursday October 9th, 2008 4:26:54 AM

Trace is visably shaken and remains quite, he decieds that it is best to wait untill he is asked to speak. He would rather face a hundred dragons than speak with death itself. Trace reaches for Shadow and then realizing that she is not there clenches his fist and continues to stand fast.

HE[DM SteveK]
Thursday October 9th, 2008 12:48:38 PM

The gray figure's mouth quirks up in a smile, and the overpowering Presence is gone. The voice inside each head remains the same, and it continues.

TALK NOT OF OFFERING OR TAKING THAT WHICH IS ALREADY MINE. I AM NOT THE ONE WHO NEEDS SACRIFICE. I AM NOT THE ONE WHO NEEDS WORSHIP (he turns the eyes of the universe on Firn'gear, Jurgen, and Savin). DO NOT OFFER THAT WHICH IS ALREADY ANOTHERS. YOUR ABILITIES TOGETHER, WHEN YOU WORK TOGETHER, ARE THE GREATEST CHANGE YOU CAN MAKE.

The Gray One's smile disappears again. The blood-red lines reappear among Gargul and the Children of Chaos. Now easily seen are two more lines, one flowing from Savin and another from Kazak. Looking around, the heroes can see there is more than one 'leak' in the matrix that they have seen before. Kazak's line moves off in the distance, but Savin's line joins with another that is part of one 'leak'.

"HERE ON THE SOUTHERN CONTINENT, I AM APPROACHED THROUGH AN INTERMEDIARY POWER WHO IS DESERVING OF RESPECT. WHAT YOU SEE AROUND YOU ARE THE LINES OF WOLDSBLOOD THAT FLOW AMONG A POWER YET TO BE. HOWEVER, IF THESE 'LEAKS' CONTINUE, IT WILL BE A POWER THAT NEVER WILL.

"I FREELY GIVE YOUR COMPANION, KAZAK, BACK TO LIFE TO WORK WITH THE CHILDREN OF CHAOS. YOUR COMPANION, SAVIN, I WILL RETAIN, FOR TO RELEASE HIM NOW WOULD ONLY STRENGTHEN THE SOURCE OF THE 'LEAK'.

"REMEMBER, I AM GARGUL, GOD OF LIFE AND DEATH. I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING THAT SOULS TRAVEL SAFELY BOTH TO THIER BIRTHS AND FROM THIER DEATHS.

He motions for the dead Kazak to approach the group. He then sadly smiles at the reunion.

The scene fades, and the Children of Chaos are back with Kazak breathing on the ground. Squating next to where Savin's body used to be is the Imp in blue coveralls. (Yep, Savin's body has disappeared.)

"Hey not bad", he begins conversationally, "Now there's only so much intervention the Boss can do around here, so I can't stay long. But there is something you really need to know."

Hey Steve, is that the end of your post?

Cliiiiffhanger!

SteveK; yep, just a bit of one :-). But I wanted to give the group a post to react to what Gargul said and did before shoving new information at everyone. If I did that, it would tend to reduce the drama of meeting one of the greatest beings in Wold history.

Thursday October 9th, 2008 8:58:00 PM

Peerimus dips his head slightly to the one naming himself Gargul. "You have our thanks." Then with a slightly deeper dip, his chin just touching his chest the druid adds, "And my respect." Peerimus did not understand nearly any of what was said and implied about leaks and powers. What had Savin to do with a future Power? What were the straying lines of Woldsblood? A problem Gargul could not correct? Or one he perhaps chose not to? It was partially maddening that such a foreign creature apparently nearly in complete control over the cycle of life to death to life. responcible for the safety of souls, could then Savin's now be in danger?

The Wold flickers back into solidity from the Shadows. Peerimus is on the imp in two quick strides, even as the creature begins to speak. "Is Savin in danger from this Power to Be?" the words of the imp catch up quickly. "Something we need to know? Speak quick and direct then if your time is short." the druids mind races ahead to the dozens of answers he can envision coming and what steps the Children of Chaos may now need make to possibly save the entire Southern Continent and maybe the Wold itself.

Durgan
Thursday October 9th, 2008 9:41:16 PM

Durgan walks over to where Kazak is sitting and gives him a swift but not too hard kick. "Ye durned fool! Don't be doin that to yer older brother. Ye scared me half ta death. And next time ye chase after a big old dragon on yer own ye better worry more about what I'm gonna do to ya then what the dragon is gonna do." Durgan kicks the dirt then starts to stomp off. Then suddenly, he reverses course, picks Kazak up off the ground and envelops him in a tremendous bear hug.

Trace
Thursday October 9th, 2008 9:58:39 PM

Trace moves over and gives Kazak a strong hug, glad to have you back. After he swolled you, he died right there.

Rash Trinka
Thursday October 9th, 2008 10:15:34 PM

Rash looks at the others and then down at the ground. She sighs and says, "Well I guess I don't get to go home for a while. I hope you don't mind me joining your group but I think it is required of me for a time anyway. I do hope our travels bring our to my farm and family."

Rash suddenly turns away and her shoulders seem to be shaken as she cries quietly to herself.

Thursday October 9th, 2008 10:50:48 PM

Looking somewhat abashed as Durgan lifts him off his feet " sorry brother .... but da big blue lizard was gonna attack the other dwarves ...... and Ozhone was certainly a smart devious beast "

" i'll be more careful " quips Kazak with a grin as he breaks free of Durgans bearhug

Returning Trace's hug " good to be back brother " growls the warrior

Turning to the rest of the Children of Chaos " so whats next on the agenda ?"

Finally he intoduces him self to the newest member " Ii'm Kazak ..... welcome to da group ..... we could really .... really ... use someone of your talents in dis group ...."

Firn'gaer
Thursday October 9th, 2008 10:54:11 PM

Firn'gaer is glad to see Kazak returned to the living, but he is saddened at the loss of one of his oldest friends on the Southern Continent. So many have come and gone, but Savin and Peerimus had been there with him through all of his ordeals on the lost continent. "Goodbye Savin. May you know peace in the Land of Rest.

Something that Gargul cannot or will not handle. . . . The mystery surrounding the our legacy deepens.

"Yes, speak. What is it? What interferes with Lord Gargul? And what of this Power that may not be?"

After the imp speaks, Firn'gaer places a hand on Rash's arm. "I understand your pain. If it is possible, we could relocate your family to Heranmar. At least then your family would be near."

Jurgen
Friday October 10th, 2008 2:52:08 AM

Jurgen looks to Gargul and, surprisingly, has no response. For the Children, the paladin had many words, but those would have to wait. There is no fear in him about Savin's fate. The monk was a strong man in life and death would not take that away from him. But it looked like even beyond the mortal Wold, the Powers still had sway over what the Children did. "Our lives and after-lives in the service of people who may never know what we do." He mutters to himself.

When Peerimus rushes forward, Jurgen holds back. The druid's attitude is more frantic than normal and it gives Jurgen a moment to bite his tongue about the earlier comments. All in due time. All business, Jurgen gives a nod to Kazak, before turning to listen to the Imp.

The Imp Speaks[DM SteveK]
Friday October 10th, 2008 10:08:28 AM

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" warns the Imp with his little hands stretched out in a warding off gesture, "I'm just a working stiff!" Satisfied he's not going to get assaulted immediately, he looks earnestly at the group.

"No, Savin's not in danger from the budding Power, in fact, the Boss wants the new Power to be born. In charge of Life, remember? But there is someone else who is trying to use the almost-Power to build his own controlled minions, and THAT is where the leaks are coming from. The Boss isn't able to interfere directly, and it's hurting the Boss."

"Your buddy Savin is attached to one of those leaks, see? And if the Boss let him go, then Someone-Else will control Savin, see?"

"You guys have attracted the Boss' attention with helping out that triton chick, and now again with your asking. Maybe you can help stop the Someone-Else and let the Almost-Power be born."

The Imp seems to know there are questions coming and holds up a hand.

"Ya don't get it, do ya? Names have power. I can't say any names or else the Someone-Else may find out what I'm telling youse guys. Your gnome friend's buddies in the fortification in the sky in the town with a Hook can be a clue to..."

"Gotta go!"

BAMPF!!!

(ooc:
1- xpoints are coming shortly for this module, good job all!
2- there is time for the CoC to tie up loose ends with Hannan and Ganness and the Bloodpack letter before next module. Don't let the disappearance of the Imp mean that the CoC has to go super fast.

Rash Trinka
Friday October 10th, 2008 3:06:12 PM

Rash smiles shyly and wipes away here tears. "Oh no need for that. I have the ability to move around pretty well and will do so when time permits. I might even bring you their to meet my brood."

After the Imp leaves, Rash steps forward and says, " I know I am new to you all, but it sounds like we have our next calling. If a new power is emerging, we definitely live in momentous times. I can't image what could stop a power from being born except for another power so we do have our work cut out for us. Sounds like we can get more information from the Hook City. I have the ability to teleport if that helps us get there faster though I will need to ask the powers for the spell."

Durgan
Friday October 10th, 2008 9:25:50 PM

"More teleportin'?" Durgan sighs. "Ah well, could be worse. At least we won't be going by dragon back hehe."

"Ok, let's go see how reasonable the dwarves are feeling today."

Firn'gaer
Friday October 10th, 2008 10:49:23 PM

"Another trip to Hook City." He says. "Yes, Rash, we have our next calling. A new Power. I never would have thought that I would live to see the ascension of a God."

"Let's speak to the dwarves first then. After that we should head back to Heranmar and make preparations for our next move."

"Kazak, it is good to have you back. Next time try to avoid the dragon's mouth."

"Hook City can wait. We have the dwarves to deal with first and a letter to deliver. With the Migration coming, we may need to call upon other adventuring groups and so we should make that connection." Peerimus breathes a small bit of relief. There was no reason for the creature to lie about Savin. The druid felt the loss of his longest companion and he knew there would be many days to come when he turned to look for the rash exhuberant man. For now though, he could focus on the next task. Peerimus gives Kazak a solemn nod. "Good to have you back friend."

Turning to the others, "Jurgen is correct, Our first business will be with the dwarves and then the letter we said we would deliver. I feel a return home is then warranted. Savin left many friends behind and they need to know how he fell. Then we can think about going back to Hook."

Peerimus turns to move out as well, then nods back towards Trace. "A good idea and make sure to include Shadow." Peerimus pauses as if he wants to say more, but instead he simply nods again and turns to lead the group to the arch.

In the Green Valley[DM SteveK]
Monday October 13th, 2008 10:59:13 AM

Back to the land of the living, the CoC decide what to do next while the dryad from the wood serves a refreshing luncheon.

ooc: All CoC heroes (except Rash) get 7,8,23xp

The group is preparing to go back to Vulfgard to finish up business there, do good by Hannan and Ganess, and then deliver a letter to the Bloodpack that seems a little more important now.

All that is left is the plan on how to accomplish this!

Peerimus AC 26 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166
Monday October 13th, 2008 12:07:10 PM

"The Dragon treasure can remain right where it is while we see speaking with Hannan and the dwarves of Vulfgard" The druid rubs Yorricks head as he continues to think, "To be honset I am not sure how we can get the letter delivered ourselves and we may need to see if a ship is leaving Vulfgard for RattleDam and deliver it for us. I do not want to magically transport into a city without permission for a less than dire cause."

"Once we speak or get thrown out by yhe dwarves, we sill see to the arch and thus secure the dryad's valley," Peerimus smiles at the dryad here. We then gather the hoard and return to Heranmar to say our final farewells and prepare for what is coming."

"I also think we leave that right where he lies." Peerimus indicates Krilanos. "He played both sides and so I believe we should fully dispose of the remains and learn what we can and move on. After speaking with the dwarves."

Peerimus gets the groups agreement and then heads to the arch.

I agree with all except for leaving the horde, It would make me sick if it is plundered while where gone. But if your confident that it will be ok then I am ready.

OOC- I just want to give kudos to this entire game. I have seen some turmoil in the Wold recently and everyone here remains as solid players and involved in the game.Give yourselves a pat on the back all around!

an excerpt from the journal of Dweezil the imp:

"Dweezil. It is time." Dweezil startled awake, deep in slumber he had been dreaming about the place of power he would have at his master's side. For his master had become powerful indeed. It took Dweezil a few moments to shake off the effects of sleep, but when he did he saw that his master's allies had assembled. A powerful group, and sure to cause a great deal of carnage. Dweezil rubbed his hands together in anticipation. Then his master spoke. "Seneschal, is everthing ready?" A dry monotone voice responded, "All has been prepared as you have ordered. Those living above will not know what has befallen them until it is too late. Your place of power in this Wold is assured." Dweezil's master smiled. Dweezil smiled too, it was a good day to be an imp...

The Scroll of Krilanos[DM SteveK]
Monday October 13th, 2008 6:35:49 PM

Jurgen finds Krilanos' scroll and discovers that it only has scribbles like a demented child was playing with it. No language, no magic, no cipher.

It was obviously a prop, or a product of Krilanos' own chaotic mind.

Durgan
Monday October 13th, 2008 7:18:05 PM

OOC- Woot! got a level :)

"I'm ready ta go. Let's go talk to Captain Hannan." Durgan seems to returning to his usual dour self. "But Peerimus, leaving the treasure? Surely ye don't mean it? Listen let me tell you something about dwarves. Dwarves don't leave treasure laying around. That's the sort of behavior that attracts dragons ta show up on yer doorstep, and I've seen enough of those to last me fer awhile thank ye very much!"

"Now, I got a bag of holding and there's another in the loot. Do we have anything else? I'm not sure if we could even carry it all."

Kazak - feeling a lot better :-)
Monday October 13th, 2008 10:20:07 PM

Kazak listens to the banter ..... " sounds like a sound plan Peerimus .... i'm with ya on all of dat .... but what is our next plan of action ?" inquires Kazak

The dwarven warrior sifts thru the treasure and eyes the full plate armor " hey Durgan dis a isa ah nice set ...... " as he compares it to his own armor " think mine is a little tougher but it might have other qualities ..... whatcha think of dis for you ?? "

ooc: splitting treasure with Rash is fine with me

ooc" aren't we supposed to deliver the letter as part of our next mission ??

Peerimus AC 26 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166
Monday October 13th, 2008 10:26:26 PM

OOC I have no problem giving Trace the arrows, but at 15k of worth out of about 26k total each not including the arrows it should be taken into account on the split. ie 11k +arrows the rest get 29k

On George's new guy I am under the impression George got a nice fat bank account to stock Rash with.
In game Peerimus would be apprehensive at best with handing the cleric the cash. now working out a project to further the powers in and around Heranamar that costs in the range of 25k he would be more willing to consider

Jeff C
Monday October 13th, 2008 10:59:32 PM

(I'm with Dan on Rash getting treasure, not because I want to penalize George. It's just that I recall him getting starting gold for a level 15 character which probably puts him (I guess her. Ahhh! Gender bending!) in a better position than some of the Children, financially?

Now if I'm mistaken on this, I'll gladly change my mind :))

Rash Trinka
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 12:30:16 AM

ooc Rash has no problems in not getting in treasure but she will have to charge you the 10K for casting the 2 raise dead spells. Not making a profit but it cost 10k in components which in truth Rash didn't have. Steve can say that it came out of the treasure or otherwise those spells didn't get cast and Kazak is looking kinda stiff again! Rash does carry heal spells and cures but has no wands, staffs or potions for curing. If you want to purchase some group magic for her to carry in this regard, she is fine with it. While Rash isn't as opposed to healing as Quinn was, she is set up to be a fighting cleric and I expect to be in the front lines fighting a bit during combat. Just keep that in mind.

Rash holds up her hands when they start talking about giving her Savin's money. Please I don't need it and my studies of your group spoke of a school that Savin had started. Why don't you give his share to that school to help keep it running. I am sure that would be Savin's desire anyway.

She looks at the group and puts her hands on her hips and says, "Well lets get this show on the road. We have letters to deliver but more importantly a new power to help birth in the Wold. Just think on it. How many people can say they helped a god be born. Now that is worthy work. Work important enough to keep me from my family."

Treasure [DM SteveK]
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 9:26:49 AM

ooc: from DM point of view on the treasure thing...

1) Rash was given the startup $ for 15th level character, so no reason to feel obligated to Rash for Savin's actions.

2) Since Rash opened one gateway to Gargul to talk about both Savin and Kazak, call it just one Raise Dead spell used. So there is 5K to fund in some way.

Suggestion: Probably a good idea for the 5K of the raise dead to have come out of the treasure in the first place so no need of reimbursement

ooc: on disruption and ghost touch arrows...

hmmm, looks like I made a faux pas. :-) Since it's already out there, keep the arrows as listed, but since they are non-standard they won't be able to be sold at Catacombs.

ooc: on dwarf bane arrow...

since dwarves can be evil or good, this is not an evil weapon. If it were celestial bane...

Trace
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 1:26:20 PM

Trace helps get packed up and cracks a smile at Kazak while holding a dwarf bane, "you know any evil dwarves walking around?"

just let me know when we get back to Hernamar how much of the gold is mine, ready to do some more shopping. Also while we are here, I suggest that we try and secure a trade route and possible alliance with Hernamar, for the possible army, to deal with surrouding troubles. Maybe call it "SWAT , South Woldian Alliance Team". or something like that.

Jurgen
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 3:55:15 PM

"I doubt we could carry this all..." Jurgen looks at all the items with a grin. "I assume the dwarves will be able to do some exchanging for us to make this carrying easier. Providing they don't try to kill us on the spot. I don't think we should worry too much. If we leave it behind and ask the dryad to block off the path, Firn'gaer and Peerimus will be able to teleport us back in? Unless the dwarves have a Catacombs passage in Vulfgard."

Jurgen gathers up as many of the magical items that he can carry, looking somewhat like a pack mule. He heads back towards the Arch and prepares what to say to the first dwarves on the other side. "Krilanos is dead. We killed the dragon. And the elves have closed off the gateway to their lands."

[OOC: George is right. We should all be pitching in for curing wands and stuff. But I guess that's a problem to sort out when we hit a Catacombs and figure out how much money we've all got.]

Trace
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 4:15:45 PM

(ooc: Trace has room in the hhh, load me up with as much as possible, I could even put on the armor untill we get to Hernamar, just as long as we dont get into a fight. Or a couple of solo teleports to Hernamar with the loot with two of yall could help out. one uses teleporth there and the other tree teleport both of yall back.)

Kazak -
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 4:39:33 PM

"Hehehe .... yeah sure do Trace " as he points at Durgan " .... just keep ya distance from him in the morning or before happy hour " laughs Kazak

"Hopefully Jurgan .... afterall we just was able to resolve this tension between elves and dwarves .... with da slaying of Krilanos and Ozhone ..... so we might be able to get a fair deal "

The dwarven warrior helps pack up the loot

(i'm all for pitching in for a high level cure wand + heal scolls )

Treasure and Dryad[DM SteveK]
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 5:53:45 PM

The woods-woman smiles. "This is my Valley and I would be very happy to keep your treasure in the dragon's cave until it is time for you to claim it. To keep it safe, I would ask that you destroy the Key Stone of the Rose Arch, or bring it to me in the Valley. This Key Stone is linked to the Valley, so wherever the stone lays, it will create a gateway to the East side of the Valley."

"In exchange for closing off the Rose Arch, I will give you a sapling of my Ash Tree that will allow you to travel from wherever you plant that sapling to my woods and thus have access to the Valley and the dragon's treasure beneath."

Firn'gaer
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 8:42:48 PM

"Before we decide on what becomes of the treasure, let's speak to the dwarves. Nothing can be done with until then. I think the dryad's proposal is fair. Eliminating the Rose Arch would prevent the blood-thirsty members of the two races from retaliating against one another."

Firn'gaer holds Lhari in his hand. "We all owe a debt of gratitude to Lhari. If it was not for his help we would all be dead. He has sacrificed a great deal of himself in this battle. So bare this in mind." He says to the others.

[OOC - I have no problem with pitching in, but a newly created PC should have taken some of that into account and have at least purchased a wand or two to start. In the least, there should be a handful of scrolls already. I have no problem with additional party items, but I do have a problem with supplying all of the healing items to a new member. We never purchased any items for Peerimus to use for the group.

Firn'gaer has 8k in gold and we are expecting him to give a large portion of his share for items a 15th level cleric should already have had some of. Are we going to pitch in for some offensive wands or perhaps a staff for Firn'gaer to use when he runs out of spells?]

Durgan
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 10:07:57 PM

Durgan grunts at Kazak's words and shakes his nearly empty keg. "If ye think I am grumpy in the morning now, wait till ye see me with no ale. I hope I can get some more from the dwarves. As fer the treasure, the dryad's idea sounds good. We can get it later, I suppose. Didn't really want to carry it all at once anyway."

"Did she say we could create a gate to the valley from anywhere? Hmmmmm."

Rash Trinka
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 10:44:18 PM

Rash remains quiet while waiting on the others to make a decision on what they are going to do.

(ooc Rash did buy the components of two scrolls for the Heal spell so she already has spent some money on the group. Not a huge percentage but some. I will be glad to heal the group with available spells but I don't want to play a healing cleric. I have done it before and it is boring in my opinion. I will heal when it is necessary but I want to play this character as a warrior cleric, hence the domain of war! A lot of my magic purchases went in that direction which I will list below so you can see what I spent my money on. Right now Rash only has the two heal spells and without a lot of current funds can't afford to purchase wands, potions or scrolls in that direction. I don't think it is a huge deal unless we have to sustain a couple day battle where I can't get a lot of healing spells. Still I carry a Heal spell and can get the mass cures so it won't be a big deal.

+6 Periapt of Wisdom 36,000
+2 Amulet of Health 4,000
+3 Cloak of Resistance 9,000
+3 Ring of Protection 18,000
Ring of Counterspell(dispel magic greater) 4,000
Mitheral Full Plate of Speed 26,500
+1 Animated Shield 9,000
+1 Falchion, Holy 18,000
Extend Rod Normal 11,000
Extend Rod Lesser 3,000
+4 Gloves of Dexterity 16,000
2 Incense of Meditation (1used) 9,800
Heward's Haversack 2,000
Strand of Prayer bead normal 25,800
2 Scrolls of Heal 1,650 (assumed I wrote)
4 vials of silversheen 1,000

I spent 96,500 of my available funds to be a decent frontline warrior and chose feats and spells to help with this. Remember with Savin gone, we lost one of our effective fighters and I think Rash will be able to replace him plus give healing and other helpful spells.

Firn'gaer - OOC
Tuesday October 14th, 2008 11:02:34 PM

The fighters can chip in since their the ones who will need it the most, Firn'gaer will not be. He'll have to spend his share on recharging Lhari, if it's possible. If not, he'll have to restock his scrolls or maybe upgrade some of his items so he can be helpful when his spells run out.

Trace
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 2:48:18 AM

ooc: I will donate to offensive to Firn'gaer's Lhari, with her defense and walls was a great help. Besides having Rash to give mass healing, I think we should all try and buy a necklace or ring with a stored healing spell in it that can get us out of trouble and when we take a big hit. Trace is fine, maybe some more distance arrows, he seems to be ok when covering others in a fight, sad to see my cat go. .............how long will Trace morn before he finds another friend? Shadow was the third, 1. Luke went to Sly, 2. Radiant, wouldnt mind her coming back, 3. Shadow, fallen in battle. Also is Savins equipment gone with his body? I would love his ring of blinking! and his sandles when we are not fighting.

Jurgen
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 1:42:19 PM

"Thank you, Sister," Jurgen is all honey and sugar with the dryad. Likely the sapling would go to Peerimus who would know better what to do with it than Jurgen. "It is time for us to go back to work. Back to the Arch, to speak with the dwarves and get their Key Stone."

The paladin decides not to take the various treasures from the dragon's horde, instead leaving them behind in favor of keeping himself free to act. After all, he was much better able to negotiate without hiding under a pile of weapons and armor. Jurgen doesn't have his sword drawn when they travel through the Arch. Better to look unimposing and be caught off-guard than to look ready for battle and start a fight that wasn't going to occur.

To Vulfgard[DM SteveK]
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 2:09:49 PM

The Children of Chaos decide to leave the majority of the treasure with the Dryad at least until they are done talking with the dwarves. It also seems that they are still deciding how to plan thier future support for healers and others.

Lhari sounds like he is ready to blush. "Think nothing of it", the staff says, "I am quite pleased that I was able to further the Children of Chaos. This adds to my research on the groups of the past and the current group."

The Children of Chaos move across the sunny Valley and through the Rose Arch, wary but no weapons in hand to create confrontations. They are met on the other side by a party of 30 dwarves. 20 of them are heavily armored and carry long pikes (which are currently pointed at the CoC coming through the Arch), 5 are on ponies a couple of hundred feet away, clearly ready to flee and warn Vulfgard, and 5 are stripped to the waist with large hammers, looking like they are getting ready to smash a head-sized stone of Rose Quartz.

Before the heroes can do more than register the situation, a dwarven command is heard (speak Dwarf Highlight to display spoiler: { Pikes Up!}, and the pike heads rise into the air. And then from one of the pikemen comes the same voice in Common. "Hannan's Honor, come quickly. We will guard the entrance until the smiths are able to destroy Krilanos' cursed portal. But you must get out of our way if the dragon is diectly behind you!"

Jurgen
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 3:50:31 PM

"Directly behind us?" Jurgen doesn't bother turning to look at the Arch behind him. "The dragon is long dead. We've the teeth and scales to prove it. Not just the beast, but Krilanos too. You've nothing to fear from the Valley as even the elves have destroyed their portal. Don't destroy that Key Stone. Krilanos' actions affected a dryad's grove within that valley and it should be returned to her."

Firn'gaer
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 8:28:04 PM

"Yes as Jurgen says. The dragon is dead, and the elves have closed their gate. Krilanos and his villainous plans have been put to an ended. We would like to speak to Hannan, and your King. There are things I'm sure they wish to speak to us about."

Durgan
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 9:23:40 PM

"Harumph. No more dragon. And thank Moradin fer that! Now then, let's go and have a chat with those who will chat with us, and let's have some ale while we talk eh?"

OOC- Some good points made all around regarding the treasure. If we need to discuss more, let's move it to email and not clutter the board too much.

Peerimus AC 26 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 10:46:03 PM

Peerimus smiles towards Lhari, "Yes we indeed are in debited to you. You were instrumental in the victory over Ohzone and Krilanos." To the others, we can continue discussions on treasure and purchases for the use of the whole group at another time. We have more pressing business with our hopeful newest allies against the tyrrany of evil plots."

Peerimus accepts the sapling reverantly, "Again thank you. I shall plant it with care within my own grove. We shall hopefully return shortly with the rose stone and place it within your keeping. Unless you prefer we simply attempt to destroy it and then we shall do so."

Leaving the Valley, Peerimus holds up a calming hand at the expected greeting. Others have already passed on the message and so, Peerimus does not feel he needs to repeat it and simply nods a greeting to the guarding dwarves. Peerimus does indeed move though, directly towards the Key stone with Yorrick in tow. "Hold your hammers good dwarves." he says calmly as he approaches them.

Kazak -
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 11:20:56 PM

The dwarven warrior stays quiet ...the thoughts of the past battle and its consquences fresh in his mind ....
letting his brother and Peerimus do the talking ..... but he keeps his hands in plain sight and empty

ooc: i'm more then happy to pitch in for some offensive spells/scrolls/wands etc... for the mages

Rash Trinka
Wednesday October 15th, 2008 11:22:16 PM

Rash watches the pikes raise and says, "Well at least they aren't charging." She remains quiet wondering how her presence will be explained.

To Vulfgard[DM SteveK]
Thursday October 16th, 2008 9:45:51 AM

Explanations are given and it takes a minute or two for the news to sink in. "The dragon is... dead? And Hannan's Honor killed it?" The buzzing and mumbling rises and falls with looks of disbelief, shock, and awe intermingled on the faces of the assembled dwarves. Two pikemen are dispatched through the Rose Arch to do a quick survey and then they are back speaking earnestly to the lead pikeman. He sends a couple hand signals to the ponies in the distance and two of the dwarf scouts take off for Vulfgard.

And then the dwarf leader bows deeply to the Children of Chaos. (Durgan and Kazak knows this is deepest respect). "Hannan's Honor, I am not high enough in the hierarchy to give announcement to what you have done. Niether to I have the authority to give you the Key Stone. But allow me the honor to give an escort for you to Vulfgard. I will remain at my post with a token guard and the scouts while my pikemen, the smiths, and the Key Stone escort you to Vulfgard's Hier. With no danger coming from the Valley, I am authorized to do that much."
......................

As the CoC are being offered official permission to go to Vulfgard with the Rose Stone (if not in thier possession), it is a pretty easy decision to make. Ten pikemen and five smiths and the Rose Stone go with the seven members of the Children of Chaos through the cool blue morning along the rocky trail.
........................

The travel back to Vulfgard is uneventful until just before the CoC are expecting to see the gates of the stronghold. There, they are met by the two scouts currying the foam off thier ponies flanks in a make-shift corral that wasn't there three days ago. There are some other tents and structures here that attests to a rapid movement of the dwarves in this camp. And soon after the CoCs arrival, Lord Hannan himself comes out to meet them.

Hannan is armed and armored, but has a smile on his bearded face when he sees the Children of Chaos come to the camp. "I have heard the report from the scouts, and it is good to see you triumphant. Yet we have matters to discuss and need to be alone." He turns to the smithy contingent. "Smith Thurgen, bring the Rose Stone to my tent and stay there to guard your responsibility until I return." He then waves his guards and the CoC escort off and moves away to a small hillock to ensure none of his contingent can overhear thier conversation.

"Before I tell you what is going on in Vulfgard, perhaps you can tell your tale of battle and triumph." Hannan looks at Rash consideringly. "And your loss."

Firn'gaer
Thursday October 16th, 2008 6:41:55 PM

Firn'gaer relays his account of the battle to Hannan.

"We we separated and ended up fighting the battle on two fronts. With our resources divided, we still managed to overcome the pair, but with losses. Rash was held, petrified, until we released her. It was her magic that allowed us to convince the Powers that Kazak should be returned to us. Savin, whose soul was weary from the constant struggle and conflict, chose to stay and travel on the Land of Rest."

Durgan
Thursday October 16th, 2008 10:01:34 PM

Durgan looks around several times for ale. Sure that some would be nearby he searches until it is obvious there is none. With a sigh he sits down near Hannan and adds a few comments to Firn'gaer's recounting of the battle, but mostly lets the gnome tell it as he is doing a good job as usual.

When Firn'gaer finishes, Durgan asks Hannan, "It would seem you have something ta tell us as well. I am curious. And what is going on with all the activity?"

Kazak -
Thursday October 16th, 2008 10:21:29 PM

Kazak grins at Durgans search for ale ...... but does not tease his brother ..... the fruitless search itself makes the younger dwarf laugh quietly " whatcha looking for brother ?"

Like his brother kazak lets Peerimus and Firn'gaer do the talking ..... he just takes in the sights of a dwarven stronghold ....." almost like home Durgan "

Adding his voice to the tale " hehe i was just a snack ....for Ozhone ..... up close and personal to a dragon isn't the smartest thing i've done .....but he does have big teeth .... and bad breath " laughs Kazak

Peerimus AC 26 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166
Thursday October 16th, 2008 10:51:19 PM

Peerimus adds to the tale on the dryad and her valley and thanks Hannan for his assistnace in keeping the battle between themselves and the true foes, Ohzone and Krilanos. Had the dwarves and elves started to mix it up, things would likely have been much worse. Peerimus also relays the groups upcoming moves. Assisting Hannan with whatever still troubles the dwarves and then returning home to mourn and celebrate Savin as well as beginning planning thier next moves to seek out a new budding Power in the south.

Rasha mainly lets the others do the talking but will explain when asked that the Powers summoned her to join the Children of Chaos. "I guess I am to be Savin's replacement. I can never replace what he meant to these heroes but can only hope to partially live up to what he brought them."

Hannan's Tale[DM SteveK]  d20+10=11 ;
Friday October 17th, 2008 9:47:11 AM

The Hier of Vulfgard listens closely to each of the heroes, his mind active and eyes alight, but it is obvious he is distracted and not paying extremely close attention. (Hannan's Sense Motive: nat 1!) The dwarf lord doesn't catch the talk about the Powers, the potential bitterness of thinking of oneself as a 'replacement', doesn't see the byplay between Durgan and Kazak, nor does he understand the sadness behind Trace's silence.

And once the Children are done talking, it is Hannan's turn. He holds up one beefy hand and waves off Peerimus' praise for the dwarf's level-headedness. "You had already proved your worth and honor by coming to talk to me and being so open. What you told me in my chambers made too much sense and so my actions to support your mission were only what honor required."

The dwarf looks around, taking in the activity of the dwarf camp as well as the towering walls of the mountain range in the distance, then sighs and returns to the conversation. "My Father is ... angry. Angry at the elves for being a part of Krilanos' plan, angry at Krilanos for the betrayal and his death, angry at my brother for dying, angry at Barla for killing herself in shame. He is angry at the Children of Chaos for revealing the weakness of the dwarves in being duped, angry at me for my oath to you that took you away from venting his anger, and... and I suspect the worst is he is angry at himself for being so angry because he knows it shames and lessens himself, Vulfgard, and all dwarves but he is too proud to admit it."

"And the only person of all these that he can vent upon to ease this burning need in his soul is me." Hannan looks upon the camp once more. "I am the Heir and my Father will not change that, and I am still responsible for my people. So I am exiled from Vulfgard until the Lord sends his summons to me."

Hannan smiles. "Do not fret. My Father will cool down in a decade or two! Yet in the meantime, I will discharge my duties and guard my honor from outside the walls of Vulfgard." He inclines his head at the Children of Chaos. "As Heir, and as myself, I am thankful for what the Children of Chaos have done for Vulfgard, and I will remember your actions with honor. Vulfgard will eventually realize it is in your debt, and when I am the Lord, I will never forget."

"In the meantime, you are welcome to stay in my budding outpost to rest and recover and reprovision. I have further taken the liberty to have the GrassSwift move to an alternate harbor that is just to the East: you will not have to approach Vulfgard to reboard your vessel."

"Is there any other service I may offer the Children of Chaos?"

Firn'gaer
Friday October 17th, 2008 10:42:33 AM

"I am sorry. Many of us know the sacrifice you have had to make in having had to leave your home for what you believe is right. I salute the courage of you and your men."

"If there is anything that I can do for you to help in setting up this outpost," He says. "I believe I could help with some of the construction. Or possibly transporting supplies. Just let me know. I think it is the least we can do."

Rash Trinka
Friday October 17th, 2008 10:56:32 AM

Rash elbows Peerimus and whispers, "Don't forget to ask for the key for your dryad friend."

Rash looks around the camp and wonders if she can do anything to help. She then says to the Children of Chaos and Hannan. "Both groups have lost dear friends in this last battle against chaos. I suggest we celebrate and honor their lives. Let us take a day to reflect upon those losses but also to remember what they and we have sacrificed for. (Rash nods at Hannan) I am willing to hold a service to memorialize our fallen and celebrate our victory. Peerimus, can the Children linger here for a day to help prepare a feast? One to celebrate our victory. Possibly we could also help set up Hannan's new base and make it more secure. We are a group of many talents if we are given time to prepare.

Maybe Firn'gaer can call into being walls of stone to help fortify the Heir. I can place glyphs and wards to help protect him as well. Peerimus, you could scout the area for longterm foodstuffs and the dwarven brothers can party with the troops to help with their morale. I will also pray for a heroes feast which will could aid any of the wounded and raise their spirits." Rash looks at Peerimus dimples showing in her cheeks as she smiles and asks, "So can we stay a day?"

Durgan
Friday October 17th, 2008 9:42:04 PM

"So where are ye staying then? Here? There might be better options for yer exile." Durgan claps a hand onto Hannan's shoulder. "I know how ye feel about being exiled. Been there myself. It's not too bad though. Only problem is keeping good ale in stock. Speaking of ale, ye said ye could provide some supplies?"

"Eh brother? Vulfgard does indeed remind me of home. Maybe one day we can go back there again."

A little stunned at the news of Captain Hannan's exile .....the dwarven warrior walks over to the dwarven leader .... " if ya ever need a friend ....just call ... i'll stand wit ya anyday ...anywhere " growls Kazak

" its not so bad wandering the wold .... i've learned alot .. and made many good friends that have helped ...... and i do look at things with a wider view then when i left our home ..... make it work towards your advanatge ...... and lets keep in touch "

Jurgen
Sunday October 19th, 2008 4:50:37 AM

"Thank you, Hannan. I'm sorry you had to make such a sacrifice." Jurgen avoids Hannan's glance. Sure, it wasn't exactly pleasant. But the Children had lost more in the service of the Crones. Savin was simply the latest in a long line of sacrifices that they had no choice in making. Jurgen takes a deep breath in. Hannan wasn't angry, he wasn't even upset. Jurgen was just frustrated at the Powers and needed some time to process everything. "Just as the rest have offered, I will give you any help I can. Here," he pulls out blank piece of parchment and leaves his Arcane Mark on it (the Chaos spiral, with a small J in the center), "this mark will prove you are a friend to the Children. If ever you need us, either get a mage to scry us from it or use it as evidence of our friendship to those in Heranmar or Hook City."

"Rash, I appreciate the sentiment. And while the others may wish to partake, I do not. I would like to mourn in my own way. And perhaps spend a few hours with Domi." He nods his head, as if confirming the plan. "We may be able to buy a day or two, but there is much work. The letter for Rattledam, the Power situation that we have to ask the Star Mages about, moving the treasure from the hoard to Heranmar. As well as the centaurs, giants, tritons and the Iron Fist mercenaries. And those are just the problems we know about. No rest for the weary."

Hannan's Tale[DM SteveK]
Monday October 20th, 2008 10:23:25 AM

Hannan waves away all offers of assistance. "I will not wander in the Wold, Master Kazak, for I have a duty here at Vulfgard with my people. And while the offers of assistance with construction and remembrance are appreciated, I will have to decline any further support from the Children of Chaos." He will, however, accept Jurgen's Arcane Mark, and puts it in his money pouch.

"I do not wish to provide my Father with any temptation to momentarily forget his promises when weighed against his anger. It would be best if you would move on as soon as possible."

Hannan stands proud and confident. "My people will build a temporary trading post and defense here, outside Vulfgard. Our skill is great and it will be a testament to dwarf skill and adhereance to duty. We will remember our fallen in our own ways, within our own shrines." (Here Hannan makes another bow to Rash, simultaneously acknowledging the sincere offer of the priestess and the hereditary secrecy of the dwarves which will gently but firmly decline any other requests.) "And I will continue to do my duty to my people within sight of our walls. Perhaps as my people will now have to leave our halls to conduct business, they will come to know the other peoples of the Wold and find we are not so very different."

"Stay the night, and I will provision you with food, drink, and dwarven ale enough for your return trip across the Sargrass Plains. Tomorrow I will accompany you to the hidden harbor where the GrassSwift is anchored."

Monday October 20th, 2008 10:50:30 AM

Peerimus extends his hand to the resolute Dwarf, A few decades indeed "I commend you on your opptimism with regards to your father." Peerimus says with a light hearted chuckle. "The few dwarves I have known..." and he leaves it at that. "Thank you again for the forethought of re harboring the Grass Swift. Moving too close to Vulfgard right now would certainly not be in our interest." Peerimus glances at Jurgen, he had still not come to terms with his life and part of him wondered if the new northern 'god' he now clinged to was in part responcible. The mark of Change, of Creation, of Chaos was a gift and great responsibility given by the Powers of the South. Not by those of the North and could one truly believe in both without being set against oneself. The northern deities seemed far more structured, more rigid and demanding than the Powers of the South or then Father and Mother. Perhaps that is also why there had been such refusal of Father's awakening and the lands response to it. Arrogance and self righteousness of the noble races. Peerimus dimisses the thought, there was another time to continue that and he hoped the Dryad would be of help in that matter, though he held the hope thin.

Peerimus responds to Rash, "A feast to celebrate all that has been done here is a fine idea. To often we brood and look for solitude in which we simply inflict more emotional pain upon ourselves over percieved lost. When we should celebrate the time we have, the friends, the companions and family we share that time with. We can easily stay for two days, assuming the Grass Swift is not looking to depart before then. We can lend our help where Hannan directs and wishes and then set sail."

Peerimus then directs himself to Hannan again, "I do have a request and that is for the Rose Stone arch key. I wish to leave that in the valley with the Dryad."

If there are any trees near Hannan's camp and if he gives Peerimus the stone, the druid will take his leave temporarily to take the stone to the dryad, Then Teleport to the grove, plant the Ash, spend a few hours going over the grove, speaking to Wanderwood and making a quick check on the town with regards to the giants, orcs and Iron Fist contingent. Peerimus will then teleport back. Yorrick accompanies him.

It will be one of the first things we do with all of Heranmar upon our return to the town. Here we will keep a lower profile true to the wishes of Hannan. Tomorrow then, we set sail."

Since Peerimus OKs her feast, Rash will study for two heroes feasts the next morning. She will cast the spells summoning two long beautiful tables with chairs to match. The tables are filled with savory foods and nectar which has many benefits as well. She will ash Hannan and his officers to join in with the Children. (30 spaces in all) and instruct them that they must eat drink and talk for an hour without interruption.

During the meal, she will stand and deliver a toast and a blessing. Holding her flagon up high she says, "To new friends. May they ease the passing of old friends. May they take comfort in each other, protect each other from harm both body and soul and may they all find peace together."

"Very well." He says to Hannan's decline of assistance. "If you should change your mind, do not hesitate to ask."

"Then when we have finish with all our business here, we will take our leave."

Firn'gaer will enjoy the meal with their new friends. Rufus is rather quiet. He appears to be still somewhat shaken by the dragon.

When not enjoying the meals or speaking with the dwarves or the other Children, Firn'gaer contemplates the ramifications of this new budding Power. A Power that seems to be relieving Gargul of his, or at least some, mantle over life. What ever it is, the wizard thinks that, after a short rest at home, information is the first thing they need to focus on. This information, it appears, will lead them back to Hook City and the Star Mage Guild.

Later that day when the group is together with just themselves. "So, how do we plan on transporting all of the dragon horde. I can teleport about 1400 miles at a time with 4 others. We could carry as much as we can, but I'm not sure how far that distance would get us. I am unfamiliar with the geography of the this area. Or do we plan on taking it on the plains boat?"

Durgan
Monday October 20th, 2008 9:32:33 PM

"Eh? Did I hear you correctly? Did you say I have to eat and drink fer an entire hour?"

Durgan puts his fingers together and cracks his knuckles. "Well, I suppose I could do that." With a huge grin on his face the dwarven warrior tucks into the food. It is wise to keep fingers away and his mug filled.

Jurgen
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 12:21:03 AM

Before dinner, Jurgen takes a moment to speak with Peerimus, and the other Children if they wish. "You asked before if I was so careless that I would give up my faith. Many years ago, I abandoned the Children and that act came with its own consequences. I nearly died in such a way that I would be lost forever. But Domi saved me and in return, I swore that I would be a champion to those who needed it. All he asks is that I commit to protecting those who cannot protect themselves. I could think of no better way of honoring that than to return my friends to the Wold. If there is a cost for that commitment, so-be-it. I will pay such a price. To lose my connection to Domi would certainly hurt me, but to lose my family when I could have saved them would likely kill me. That settles my promises. As for my convictions? I do not need such tangible evidence to know that Domi exists. It is because of Domi that I am able to be here to today, how could I ever forget his presence in my life and on the Wold? Whether I live to spread his word or Gargul's, it does not matter. Even now, in doing the bidding of the Chaos Powers, I can do his work. And when I finally enter the Lands of Rest, I am sure it will be Domi who receives me..." He smiles at Peerimus, somewhat awkwardly. The druid saw the Chaos mark as a blessing, Jurgen saw it as a curse. While the the two were both working towards the same goal, they did not really see eye to eye. And did not need to, as long as they could work together.

At Hannah's dinner, Jurgen is mostly quiet himself. He does respond to Firn'gaer and is chatty if anyone wants to speak with him, but is simply content to spend a calm evening. "The dryad gave us the sapling so we could teleport back and forth from her grove to wherever we plant it. I presume the sapling with go to Peerimus' grove and then we can collect the treasure, take it from there to Heranmar?" He shrugs. "It seems the simplest way to me."

Leaving Vulfgard[DM SteveK]
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 1:46:04 PM

ooc: There was a bit of posting at the same time with the DM, Peerimus, and Rash. Sorting through emails, I hereby decree that the Heroes Feast is not done, the CoC merely stay the night with Hannan and then are prepared to move to the GrassSwift at morning light.

.........................

Hannan provides Peerimus with the Key Stone of the Rose Arch. "A promise from my Honor demands it be kept. And if this reduces the chances to be so close to those elves and inflame my people, I am happy to do it."

The dwarven Hier also provides the CoC with several tents (erected by some dwarves), and camp gear (cots, tables, benches), and plenty of hearty food and good dwarven ale.
...........................

Peerimus looks around and is able to find a scraggly willow tree clinging to the side of a mountain pool that is sufficient for his needs (ie medium or larger). So the druid takes his leave from the CoC and provides the Key Stone to the Dryad in the Valley. As soon as he takes the Stone through the Rose Arch, the Arch shimmers and disappears from the rocky valley near Vulfgard. (portal is closed and can't be used). Peerimus notes that the Rose Arch is still there in the Valley of the Dryad, but it doesn't lead to anywhere. The dryad is most apprectiative and reiterates her promise to guard the dragon's hoard for the CoC.

Peerimus then teleports to his grove and plants the Ash sapling, which immediately grows into a tree big enough for Large creatures to step through to the Dryad's Valley. (entering the Ash tree has the effect of a permenant Teleportation Circle spell)

Peerimus spends a few hours going over his grove, speaking to Wanderwood and making a quick check on the town with regards to the giants, orcs and Iron Fist contingent. With a quick duck into town, he finds he is able to speak with one of the Council Elders, Harrin the Merchant.

Harrin rambles and likes to talk, but Peerimus can get several nuggets of information...1) There has been no sighting of the giants or orcs since the Children ran em off. 2) Some woodsmen up north have seen the occasional spoor of some really big wolves, but not encountered any. 3) Neither has there been any word on the mercenaries that trooped off north a month ago. "Probably almost to Hook City by now!", he says with an air of 'good riddance'. 4) Bunwit the Fisherman (another Council Elder) has reported one of his fishing boats has repeatedly been approached by swimming fish-men and has tentatively begun trading with the fishy-folk. At the end, Peerimus and Yorrick transport themselves back throught the Willow tree to the valley before Vulfgard and returns to the Children of Chaos.
.......................

The afternoon is spent on the nearby hill with Hannan, and the dwarf Hier provides plenty of filling, plain food, and all the dwarven ale one can drink. The night passes without incident, and the next day, Hannan arrives with four guards who walk with the CoC to the secret Harbor where the GrassSwift is located.

It takes a little over an hour to get to the harbor, and the CoC can see how this harbor can be kept secret, for the Sargrass is separated from the anchorage by two large rocks and a dogleg so that it appears perfectly concealed from only a couple hundred feet away.

The GrassSwift, Captain Ganness, and the crew are all here, and the swarthy captain seems glad enough to see the Children of Chaos. "Ah, the last of my cargo is here and we are ready to depart. Many days to get to Rattledam and then many more to Hook City once again!"

Hannan makes his good-byes, and the Hier to Vulfgard stands on the dock with his guard until the GrassSwift is out of sight.

Rash boards the ship and sighs. She moves over to Peerimus and says, "Why with the ablility to teleport are we taking this ship? I don't mind the occassional easy stroll but won't this takes a long time to get to the Hook City? Is that where we are going? Or are we heading back to your home base which you just teleported to. I have the ability to teleport, you do and so does Firn'gaer so why are we sitting on this ship?"

post of of two....

Peerimus listens carefully to Jurgen. He knew the man had been through a great transformation before and then again after returning. Peerimus knew that he trusted Jurgen to try and do what was right by himself and those around him. Peerimus knew that Jurgen would always stand on the side of righteousness and good against evil and tyranny. But what he did not know was Domi. Another foreign creature being elevated to godhood. The only saving grace Peerimus could attribute to him thus far, was that Jurgen found this Domi to be worth his time and according to Jurgen, Domi was on the side of good. The druid regards Jurgen a moment or two and replies, "What I said, I did for many reasons. I do not claim to know much of these northerners but what I have seen and heard lends weight to my opinion that they value promises of allegiance and fealty. I said those things to try and give you some perspective on what you were saying and to whom. If you became angry, it would be at me and the end consequence would be nothing. If Gargul had stated the same thing, any resultant anger could spell your death. Another reason was, that your life and pledge of service is the most valuable thing you can call your own. It is not the best strategy to begin a negotiation with your most valuable asset. You have nowhere to go from there. I also meant what I said on the exchange of yours or anyone's life for another. I would ask you to think on the effect to you if I laid down my life for your return from the dead. Whose life is more valuable? Without knowing the future it is impossible to say and that holds for any being not just those we call family."
"To the point on it not mattering if you carry the word and will of Domi or Gargul I would argue that view. I have seen first hand the will of Gargul and what it can create. Comparing that to what you state Domi wills you to do and there are no similarities I know of."

To the talk of the dragon treasures, Peerimus nods at Jurgens comments. "I can move all of us and the treasure in a series of spells to my grove. There is no issue with distance."

Quick Answer to Rash,

Peerimus looks to the cleric, "We are taking the ship to assist the good captain on the possibly dangerous journey and because we don't know where we are going precisely. Your teleport has a range and chance of error that 3 more days of my life are not worth wagering against. From this next stop, Rattledam I think it was called we will return to Heranmar if able. Otherwise we will sail to Hook and home from there."

Firn'gaer says goodbyes to the dwarves.

Good riddance. Squeaks a voice from the folds of Firn'gaer's robes. Got nothing against the dwarves, but wars, dragons, and some crazy guy trying to kill us just doesn't make me happy. I say the further we are from those mountains the better we'll be. Rufus continues in his normal gruff manner.

Once out over the Sawgrass Plains, Firn'gaer stares out over the vast ocean of the plains and thinks about his fallen companions. To be marked is a heavy burden, and one which Firn'gaer knows well. It's weight was more than he could bare at one time, and he left for a short time until being pulled back by the power of his connection to this primal power that resides within all of those marked by it.

After a few hours, Firn'gaer finds his quiet place below where he can continue his scribing as he did on the journey to the dwarves.

Trace
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 2:18:41 AM

Trace merely sits on the boat with thoughts of Shadow and how he misses the thick but soft fur and her ever pressance at his side. He feels empty at this time and then tries to distract himself by doing some fishing on his own near the front. Maybe he can catch a prarie pig.

Trace turns to the others "How soon do you think the out villages will learn of the war and its current status. Now that the heads of both sides knows, I wonder how long it will take for the news to filter down. My Uncle told me the last great war between gray elves and wood elves, there were battles still being fought months after a truce had been called.

(ooc: in previous post, Trace wanted to search Savin's body for the blinking ring "cold hearted but I did ask" was he able to retrive it?)

Jurgen
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 3:16:09 AM

Peerimus' words connect with Jurgen. "My friend... As is often the case, your words have swayed me. I am not sure on what of it I agree and what I do not, I will think on it. Thank you." He smiles genuinely. One day, Jurgen would take to writing down what he had come to call the Wisdom of Peerimus. The man stood separate from the civilization, but his words had the force to move both men and mountains. Remembering it would be important.

After a pleasant night of being alone and with Domi (a contradiction of terms, were it not Domi he was with), Jurgen finds himself much calmer. The solitude of the evening had given him some relief and the sight of the Grass Swift, with its Captain, brought a youthful grin to the paladin's face. "Welcome back, Ganness. Well, we're back in your welcome, I suppose." Jurgen didn't know if there were paladins to whom Domi spoke with often, and directly, but he was not one of them. Instead, he simply let his instincts guide his actions as best he could. And once again, Jurgen felt that he and the Children of Chaos, were on the right path.

[OOC: I'm pretty sure Savin's body was taken by Gargul. Or Savin is still using it in the Lands of Rest. Hard to say with that particular deity]

Sailing on the Plains[DM SteveK]
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 11:52:03 AM

ooc: Savin's body and all his possessions, magical and mundane, were gone when the Children of Chaos came back from thier visit with the god/power Gargul/Gray One. No, there was no item transferranece available.

A week of the fast-moving GrassSwift as it floats above the tremendous grasses of the Sargrass Plains, and the Children of Chaos are able to reflect on their losses, gains, and philisophical attitudes of what they are trying to accomplish. Time, the great healer, puts the events of the fight with Krilanos and the Dragon further in the past. It doesn't close the wounds of the soul, but puts a fogginess that slowly softens the memories.

Trace wonders at how long it will take to eliminate the active fighting in all the areas of the Southern Continent. He remembers stories from the elven past where 'months' is not too long a time to think of more sporadic fighting. And in the hearts of the CoC, they know that while they have stopped the cause, the effects are going to continue for a time. Hopefully, without Krilanos feeding the fire, the war will slowly grind to a halt, and really, that seems the best outcome possible without divine intervention.
.....................

A week on the Plains again reminds the Children of Chaos and the newly arrived Rash how amazingly HOT it is on the Plains! Shelter is very desirable, and plenty of water, and lots of rest breaks. The Children of Chaos again help as they did on the southbound journey, and Captain Ganness is well-pleased at the progress and additional defensive support. During the day, the occasional herd of Prarie Pigs is seen, the occasional burst of activity from a Blind Swallow nest. One night, there is the fierce cries of Rapke close by, hunting something unfortunate enough to be that night's dinner.

On the ninth day, the GrassSwift comes to a portage area through the Crystal Mountains. An outpost is manned by the monks that wander the Sargrass and have a magical song that can safely bring people and ships through the Crystal Mountains without the stone shattering and killing everyone. Captain Ganness tells the CoC that this is standard and not to worry. They did this at night on the travel down, and he didn't see the need to waken anyone for it since it is perfectly safe with the monks.

The monks keep silent except for their singing, and the GrassSwift is lifted into a cradle between two large Great Ranthoms and moved through a short pass through the Crystal Mountains. While the monks are singing, no noise can be heard at all, like the CoC are in a giant Silence spell. The Great Ranthom's sliding movement is swift, and the portage makes the 15 mile travel in an hour. Once on the other side, Ganness pays the monks, and the GrassSwift is off again!
....................

Two more days of monotonous travel pass while the ship flies towards Rattledam, but the morning of the third day there is something different.

Sitting on the bow of the ship, a small, dark man greets the Children of Chaos as they come on deck for their various morning rituals (spell memorization, excercising, fishing, whatever). It is about the size of a gnome, very skinny and midnight black skin, and large and expressive facial features. In a loincloth the same color as the Sargrass, he carries a small spear and a gourd hanging from a grass-rope about his shoulders. "Ganness!", he smilingly calls in a surprisingly deep voice, "Many Shadows from Malakikki and weaves message to you and Unpredictable Piggies!"

Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 4:31:53 PM

Peerimus smiles at Jurgen and gives the man a pat to the shoulder. He felt no need to say anything else. The druid does make it a point to locate Jurgen during his prayers though and sit with him. While he was not praying to Domi, but rather attuning himself with Father and Mother, the druid thought it a fine idea to spend the quiet time bonding with Jurgen. Their souls both looked beyond themselves for greater wisdom and peace. He could see no reason for his and Jurgens souls not to quest together as they did in body.

Much of the days on the Grass Swift, Peerimus spends working on his staff. Expertly shaping the wood and pouring over every paricle in minute detail. Memorizing each and every curve and grain. He asks Yorrick to spend time with Trace, the elf could use the distraction. From what Peerimus knew of Trace, he lived very much in the present. The natural consequences of what would likely be an extraordinarily long life to a human such as himself or an animal simply was not dwelled on. Peerimus could see the benefits to such a view. Especially if you were to function outside of the elven world. One would almost have to, unless your entire life was to be at arms length and if so, what was the point. No Trace had set his mind and spirit to the now, to the near term, to the human span of horizon. A dozen or so years at best and as an unfortunate consequence he thus would accutely feel the loss of Shadow for some time. Perhaps though, Yorrick in the near term could also ease his pain.

Peerimus relishes the heat, the sun the whole of the natural wold that flies by him at every moment he can spare. The Crystal Mountains are awe inspiring and it is all the druid can do to keep his jaw from flapping open.

When the man appears and speaks in a strangely familiar tone, Peerimus moves forward. "Many Shadows, I am Peerimus of Heranmar and leader of the Unpredictable Piggies. Or at least I believe I am."

Firn'gaer
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 7:40:51 PM

Firn'gaer spends the quiet time on ship scribing, and is only seen up top around meals and in the morning to cast his Tiny Hut for the crew to cool themselves during the hot times of the day.

As the ship reaches the Crystal Mountains, Firn'gaer takes special note of the magical means used to allow ships to pass through the mountain unharmed. He uses his sight to learn what information he can with Arcane Sight since things magical are obviously of special interest to the wizard.

The cloaked individual arrives on the deck of the ship and mentions the name Malakikki. While Peerimus speaks to the cloak figure, Firn'gaer steps to the Captains side and asks him who this Malakikki is.

Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 11:07:56 PM

Each morning, Jurgen goes through movement exercises. He does keep an eye out for attacks, but the calmness that he feels assures him the Children will have a rest, if only a brief one.

The appearance of the small man, even with a spear in his hand, doesn't seem a threat. So Jurgen doesn't bother reaching for his sword. He doesn't know who the man is or even really what he's saying, but it was another step on the journey, so Jurgen tries to pay close attention while Peerimus takes the lead.

Rash Trinka
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 11:24:16 PM

Rash seems silent and withdraw as the days move on. She will offer a smile and conversation to any who approach her but you can tell that her mind seems to be else where. On the third day she moves over to Firn'gaer and plops down next to him wiping sweat from her brow. "I need something from you if possible. I would like a way to communicate with my family. My husband and children. A crystal ball or magic mirror. Something. Otherwise I will need to teleport to them and if I do that, I might not be here when trouble happens. From the stories I have heard about this group, trouble will find you. The powers have decreed I share the path with you for a time but I miss my family so much. Can you help?"

Rash looks at the gnome wizard and he can see the tears in her eyes.

When the mysterious new man appears, Rash moves forward but lets Peerimus take the lead.

Firn'gaer to Rash
Thursday October 23rd, 2008 9:57:46 AM

"I'm sorry, Rash. I do have a mirror for scrying, but it is in Henarmar. I don't think you can communicate through it, but you could send a Message spell to contact your husband and at least let them know you're still alive. Like I said, I can't do it now. You could talk to Peerimus. He can scry using natural pools of water. That might be something a little easier to find out here."

Sailing on the Plains[DM SteveK]
Thursday October 23rd, 2008 10:08:58 AM

Obviously magical, Firn'gaer's studying of the Crystal Mountains and the monks' 'silent singing' ensures he knows that the effect is a combination of three elements; the Silence spell, the metamagic Expand feat, and some supernatural ability that is undefined. Really neat! (ooc: for spellcraft and know arcana, please roll skill checks in future.)

............

Firn'gaer spends his time scribing scrolls away from the heat of the deck until the day that a melancholy Rash approaches the gnome. Obviously agitated, she lays out her concerns, hoping the wizard will have an answer.

.................

Ganness' eyebrows start up into his hair (DC 12 Sense Motive Highlight to display spoiler: { very surprised by the dark man sitting on his ship. }), but he puts on a grin and gives a general explanation to the Children of Chaos. "That there is a Manfri, one of the little people who live in the Sargrass. They seem to be nomads, lest I've never seen a town of thiers, and generally good folk who help orphans or lost ones in the Sargrass find thier way to the monks. They know things about the Sargrass too, so it is usually best to listen to em. Oh, and Malakikki is one of em that I know who occasionally passes things onto me."

"Don't worry Master Dwarf", Ganness continues, "The word 'piggie' is referring to those slug-like Prarie Pigs, but also a term of endearment about children." He laughs. "I think he just called you lot Unpredictable Children!"

The Manfri continues to squat on the bow of the ship, grinning and not at all agitated by the explanation that Ganness gives before the Captain speaks to him. "Many Shadows to you and Malakikki, little one", Ganness addresses the dark man, "I am here and you can give me your leader's message."

A deep laugh erupts from the Manfri at the interplay around him, but chooses to speak with Ganness first. "No message for you, old Rapke, but my gourd is empty...". Another laugh is shared between Ganness and the Manfri as the empty gourd is tossed to a sailor who goes below to fill it with dwarven ale. And then the Manfri turns to the CoC.

"Yes, yes. Unpredictable Piggies are the night's soil. Malakikki says you search for blackhands and friend of Manfri called Bloodpack. Malakikki says Rattledam is dangerous for friends who want to weave picks with Bloodpack; do not set your loom in that pattern! Malakikki says that if Unpredictable Piggies want to weave with Bloodpack, they need to go to Unusual Dwelling. Malakikki says that Ul'ulla to find Ganness and show new pattern."

By tapping himself on the chest, the CoC can tell that thier Manfri is named Ul'ulla.

Jurgen  d20-1=19 ;
Friday October 24th, 2008 6:12:56 AM

Jurgen can't hide his surprise when Ganness explains what Ul'ulla means. The legacy of the Children extended far beyond Heranmar's walls. Just how far they might never know, but if the Manfri out on the Sargrass Plains knew who they were... The northern continents had its Dragons, but the Southern Continent had the Children of Chaos. Jurgen knew that the thought was little more than ego on his part, but he idly wondered what it would take to get the assistance of one of the Dragon groups on this edge of the Wold.

Like his companions, Jurgen has a hard time understanding Ul'ulla. He wondered if all Manfri spoke in such twisted metaphors. "Trace," Jurgen holds back a smile, "you could just ask him yourself?" He acts serious for a moment, before breaking into a wide grin at the elf. "How about it, Ul'uhha? Are you going to point us-" He thinks about the man's words and reconsiders. "Point our looms towards the Unusual Dwelling? We've a letter to deliver to the Bloodpack and, I suppose, a message."

Peerimus listens to the small being, what he was saying made a modicom of sense. Assuming he was inserting the metaphoric language correctly given the environment. He also notes Gannes's reaction to the appearance. Something larger might be brewing and despite the Gargul's message to head to Hook, their may be other avenues. Avenues that suited Peerimus just fine as they did not derive from the being beyond the veil.
Peerimus gives Kazak a curious look when the dwarf quietly chuckles. Wonder what that was about? Quite serious business here

Speaking now, "If the Blood pack is in danger or trouble perhaps we could assist? But Captain, I would think without knowing the extent we need to follow Ul'ulla's advise and change course to this 'Unusual Dwelling'. Do you know where that might be?"

Firn'gaer
Friday October 24th, 2008 9:35:02 AM

"It's not a different language. If it was I would understand it."

Firn'gaer then listens as Peerimus talks to Ul'ulla.

Sailing on the Plains[DM SteveK]
Friday October 24th, 2008 9:56:32 AM

Ganness tries to give the CoC a quick rundown of the local patois under cover of a sailor returning with the gourd full of ale. "The Manfri and people of the Plains get too much sun and heat, see? So words like light, bright, and white are bad, and dark, shadows, and black are good. Because they use the grass to make everything from rope to houses, they tend to use a lot of weaver terms. You get used to it!" he chortles.

The Captain confirms with the CoC. "You said you wanted to go to Rattledam, but looks like you really want to see this Bloodpack, yes? Then we should probably use this Manfri as a guide."

At this Ul'ulla perks up. "Yes, a guide. Malakikki is a dream guide and sees images in dreams. Sends Ul'ulla to wait here in Sargrass until Ganness comes. Three days to Rattledam, but only two days for druidwood ship to Unusual Dwelling." The loinclothed Manfri points a few degrees off the port bow. "That way, I show you new pattern."

...................

With the approval of most of the CoC, Ganness obligingly steers his ship to where Ul'ulla points. "I've never heard of this place the Bloodpack are supposed to be", he tells Peerimus, "but I've never known a Manfri to lie about anything. Misinformed perhaps, but never lie. I don't think they know HOW to lie."

The GrassSwift hovers above the tall Sargrass and the constant winds propels the craft ever swiftly across the boundless ocean of grass. Ul'ulla hops off and on the ship several times when seeing something in the Grasses and always is able to catch up and get back on the ship. A couple of times it is with a freshly caught Prarie Pig or some rounded roots that turn out to be full of fresh water, and once it is with a woven basket full of razor-sharp Glass Grass. Ul'ulla is very excited about his find and all but forces Ganness to allow the Manfri the use of the ships fire box and cooking utensils. A few hours of work, and the CoC see Ul'ulla melt down the Glass Grass and using a impromptu still, come up with a gourd of crystal clear liquid. "Glass Grass Wine!", he announces proudly.

Dinner that night is again prepared by the Manfri, and the CoC and the sailors enjoy Manfri cooking and drink. The glass grass wine is very faint flavor of flowers, but it warms the belly even better than the dwarven ale. It is a good thing there is only enough for a couple sips per person!

In the evening, Ul'ulla holds center stage, offering stories of the Manfri legends, talking about the Sargrass environment, stories of the Bloodpack, and any other questions the CoC may have.

Peerimus follows Gannes's words nodding as he does. His supositions proven correct on the dialect. Peerimus follows the pointing Manfri and scans about to locate markers so that he could keep a mental note on thier continuing course. [Survival 40] He was fairly certain he did not have the need to do so, but there was an ancient saying that Father favored the prepared nad thus he would be in the event direction was required.

Peerimus most definately has a question for the Manfri. His information had the Bloodpack as a group of heroes here in the Sawgrass, "From what I have heard they are quite the blcakhands and have weaved thier share of shady picks. So why would it be that simply claiming thier friendship in Rattledam be sunbaked." That bad feeling was forming in the back of the druid's mind. That feeling he got when Savin had a great plan. Peerimus smiled as the habitual memory of the monk, the rash man so full of life and energy came to him. The smile was unfortunately fleeting.

All the Shadow Realms could be breaking loose very shortly. The war they were trying to avert could be much further spread than the elves and dwarves and perhaps this could be some insight.

Sailing on the Plains[DM SteveK]
Tuesday October 28th, 2008 12:01:09 PM

ooc: with the down=ness of the Wold, I totally understand not very many postings since Friday. Since we're not in a fight, I'll keep posting anyway to move the story along... :-)
...................

Because the druid is not a native of the Sargrass, and everything looks very similar in the 'Grass and the wind, Peerimus finds it very difficult to determine location, at least at first. But the druid is nothing if not persistant and experienced, and soon he comes across using the sun and stars to figure where he is in the Sargrass. Noting where Peerimus casts his eyes, Ganness gives a nod and Ul'ulla gives a big-eyed wink, and Peerimus knows he will never be lost in the Sargrass again.

The Children of Chaos enjoy (more or less) the new cooking style of Ul'ulla, and sits back to listen to the tales. The most facinating one that Ul'ulla spins is one he calls "The First Circle". It is a fascinating creation story that has many mythical animal figures entwined in the tale. And, if the story is to be believed, the native animals of the Sargrass are different stages of the same animal! That Prarie Pigs morph into Bounders, who morph into Rapke, who are in turn just baby Ranthoms, who are themselves pupae of the great Sarg Moth. Such is the story.

When Ul'ulla sees Trace experimenting with 'Grass fletchings, the dark, little man points out some stiff looking 'Grasses and helps Trace to harvest a few. "Broad Grass is the best kind to keep darts and arrows flying straight", he says. And Trace, being an expert on the bow, can see that it can work well. (Trace will need to perform a Skill check to fletch his arrows)

Peerimus' question brings the life-light dancing in Ul'ulla's eyes. "The monks of Rattledam protect the orphans of the Sargrass and keep hidden the domed town of Rattledam. There are other peoples who live around the Sargrass who would like nothing better to destroy the monks and take all the Sargrass secrets for thier own, and the monks work to prevent this. One way the monks have to ensure Rattledam is kept secret is to erase a memory like a sand drawing in the wind." The little Manfri waits to see if the CoC understand before continuing. "I do not know the reason, but the monks have exiled the Bloodpack from Rattledam, and the friends of the Manfri are not allowed to return. If the Unpredictable Piggies go to Rattledam and announce thier friendship to the Bloodpack, you may remember nothing afterwards."

...............................

The winds die down a little and so it takes another day to make for the Unusual Dwelling, but mid morning of the next day, and Ul'ulla points to a patch of 'Grass that looks like any other. "Here is the Unusual Dwelling", the Manfri says importantly. This may puzzle others until Firn'gaer speaks up. His permenant Arcane Sight has detected a strong illusion on this area!

Ganness slows and anchors his ship. "Me and my boys will stay here until you are done with your postal service business." he tells Peerimus and Trace.

Descending from the GrassSwift, Ul'ulla waits for the others to follow before walking up to some 'Grass and disappearing! Reappearing briefly, he beckons with a hand. "Come, come to the Unusual Dwelling of the Bloodpack!"

Firn'gaer floats down on the magic of his flying spell. He keeps Lhari close just in case. "I've never had dealings with them before, but unless they are known to any of you I suggest we all go in together. Besides, places masked with illusions usually don't want to be found. The inhabitants may not be too friendly to outsiders."

Jurgen
Tuesday October 28th, 2008 10:57:45 PM

Jurgen listens to Ul'ulla and tries to understand what the Manfri is saying. Exile and memory loss? It didn't exactly make sense to the paladin, but then again, many things did not. If they seemed honorable, he would take them at their word. And pass on the message of the Great Migration. An endgame on the Southern Continent could be awfully lonely if the Children didn't get as many allies as they could find.

"As far as I understand, the Bloodpack do the same good along the Plains that we do around Heranmar... But we should be wary, regardless." Jurgen feels strangely at ease around the Unusual Dwelling. Normally, such strong magics would make him uncomfortable. Maybe there was something good here... He follows Ul'ulla into the dwelling.

Peerimus listens and falls into the deeper thought of his own speculation. The simple chore of delivering a letter for a woman in Hook City to a member of the group known as the Bloodpack has attracted quite a stir. As the Manfri speaks of the hidden city and the methods the monks employ, a few other things come to his mind. To keep the Bloodpack as protectors, it might have been necessary to banish them. Erasing the minds of the Protectors would be counter produtive at best. In response to Ul'Ulla, Peerimus nods, "I understand, Thank you."

As the ship comes to a halt, Peerimus gives Yorrick a pat and a couple grunts. 'Stay close and tell me if you smell anything.' [Handle Animal 39] Peerimus climbs down. "Rash, We need not go to Rattledam, but thank you for volunteering to do so." To the rest, "Be warey, Us Heros types seem to be notoriously untrusting of others. Especially of those that show up on the door step of our secret hideout that no one is supposed to know about. Battle ready. Under the lame guise of delivering a letter." Peerimus speaks the last few words slower, trying to impart of true oddness of all of this and hopefully to give the others a sense of what thier reactions might be if the situation was reversed.

Striding forward to take the lead, Peerimus steps into the 'Dwelling'.

Sailing on the Plains[DM SteveK]  d20+12=13 ;
Wednesday October 29th, 2008 11:33:32 AM

ooc: Clarification for all.
- This place is not Rattledam. Ul'ulla has warned the group against going to Rattledam, an has not shown the CoC where Rattledam is.
- This place is what Ul'ulla calls the secret lair of the Bloodpack, a place called Unusual Dwelling.

- Reminder: Mara Weaver from your neighborhood in Hook City gave the letter and a rug to the CoC. The rug, expertly woven of dyed grasses, to the Children that show people represented in the fine grass stitching; a man with a blonde crewcut and wearing the symbol of Domi; another with a scimitar and accompanied by a wolf; the looming presense of a half-orc with a double-bladed axe; two black elves off to one side with bows and swords; a bright-eyed inquisitive-looking gnome girl; and a woman carrying a staff who is a younger, plainer version of Mara. "That's my daughter there, Tishe'. She has her father's wanderlust that for certain. If you can't find her in Rattledam, I'm sure the monks would be able to get the letter on from there." The caption at the bottom reads; The Bloodpack.

..............

The Children of Chaos move off the GrassSwift, and follow the small, dark Manfri through the illusion. The magical effect has been hiding the structure, but now the CoC can see a large dome, fully big enough to cover most of Heranmar! Rising from a clearing of short grass and sandy patches, the dome is only 300 feet from the Children of Chaos. There is a semi-circle cut out on the side facing the group that is 20 feet tall and 20 feet across, and obviously looks like an entrance into the dome. The area before this entrance is a large sandy patch that nothing grows.

Standing before the entrance is a drow elf. Dressed in loose fitting, dark clothes, he holds no weapon, but looks wary. (Spot DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { he has a spell Readied } Behind the lone drow, inexpertly trying to hide in the shadows of the entrance (nat 1 on Hide skill!) is another elf figure with a bow. An arrow is nocked, but not yet drawn.

Before the situation can get really tense, Ul'ulla sings out, "Many Shadows to the Bloodpack and the town of Unusual Dwelling! I, Ul'ulla, scout of the Manfri, have brought the Unpredictable Piggies to the Bloodpack as asked by Malakikki, Dreamwatcher of the Manfri peoples!"

Neither drow relaxes, but the one in the open moves forward to be halfway between the CoC and the entrance. "Many Shadows to you, Ul'ulla", he replies in a strong yet suspicious voice. "And the Manfri are always welcome at Oddholme. But we need to be sure that this ship and these people do not have you under compulsion to come here." He turns his voice to the Children of Chaos. "And so what is your business here at Oddholme?"

"There are none here under our or any other's compulsion. All have come of their own will. We are here to deliver a letter to the Bloodpack. To a Tishe in particular. May we have your to enter?" Jurgen
Thursday October 30th, 2008 11:56:59 AM

Jurgen, seeing there is little to be feared here, remains quiet. If the guards had reason to attack the Children, they would have done it already. Hearing the group speak, he decides to add something on the off-chance that their fame had reached these Drow as well.

"I am a Protector of Domi," he raises the tattooed symbol of his god and then his spiral tattoo, pointing them both towards the Drow, "and we are the Children of Chaos."

Oddholme[DM SteveK]  d20+5=21 ;
Thursday October 30th, 2008 1:33:21 PM

The drow still seems unsure, though he recognizes the name of Tishe and the symbol of Domi. The other drow still in the shadows seems to make an internal decision and comes out into the light, bow and arrow back in a quiver on his back. (ooc: both drow wear obsidian-black goggles about thier eyes in an effort to reduce the brightness of the light.) (Sense Motive: 21) The bowman drow calls out. "They know names and the strange god Domi that Trellus and Flea keep harping about, cousin. They also aren't in any attack formation. Trellus wants Oddholme to be a living town, right? So we can't oppose everyone who's found us."

The first drow still looks dubious, but gives in. "We still must protect the place until they return. Yet I trust the Manfri, so I suppose we must welcome them."

Introductions on both sides and some small banter go around, and then the two drow welcome the Children of Chaos to the shadowy shelter of Oddholme.
.....................

The two drow are Murdock and Aeryon, both former members of the Bloodpack and have agreed to become the caretakers of Oddholme. Murdock is a wizard, much less trusting than... well, anyone else, but seems to have a soft spot when Tishe' or Flea are mentioned. Aeryon is the archer, and his brother is currently still part of the Bloodpack.

In the last couple of months, the Bloodpack found this domed dwelling and the two drow have been cleaning it of the webs and monster carcasses left behind by the previous occupants. The intent is to get the place liveable and then invite others to live here under the protection of the Bloodpack.

It turns out that the Bloodpack are not currently in residence, being out on a mission that the drow are reluctant to discuss. Yet they bring the Children of Chaos down a long, shadowed corridor with many tunnels left and right to a surprisingly open, airy, and bright town square - type area. There is an open cooking pit and several sturdily made tables, chairs and woven items in the area. None are carved and polished, and it looks very much like a temporary camp slowly being made into a permenant one.

Aeryon and Murdock offer a luncheon to the CoC and settle in with a variety of tasty tubers, fresh-baked bread, some soft cheese, and clear spring water to wash it all down. A dessert tray is also set up with some hoarded delicacies: candied hoppers! Ul'ulla is very happy with the food, and it takes a great effort on the Manfri's part not to eat more than his share of the hoppers.

The custodians of Oddholme are interested in the CoC's recent experiences on the Sargrass and seem willing to give back as much information as they receive.

Aeryon speaks most of the time, and offers to deliver the letter and well-wishes to Tishe' as soon as the Bloodpack returns. "If you would provide a return address for the Bloodpack, I am sure they have the magical means to get into contact with you as well."
..................

Information Summary from Aeryon and Murdock

Bloodpack members are :
Trellus, human cleric of Domi and leader
Grymash, half-orc barbarian/cleric of Gargul
Gilan, human druid
Flea, gnome-girl rogue
Tishe, human-girl wizard/druid
Vayine, drow fighter (brother to Aeryon)
Yanosh, dwarf cleric of the Power Celisiun (from Ice Vien)
Olaf, human rogue/cleric of the Power Celisiun (from Ice Vien)

Bloodpack was banished from Rattledam for killing another Rattledam pack that was managed by a rival Councilman.

Yes, the Bloodpack has seen (and fought) strange monsters and mutated Sargrass animals. The Manfri have told them that there is a power outside of the Sargrass that is trying to take over.

Durgan takes a backseat in the negotiations and enjoys the food and drink. Especially the drink.

Peerimus AC 26 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166
Thursday October 30th, 2008 9:28:19 PM

Peerimus freely offers the CoC's encounters on the plains. The Great Maw of the Sawgrass, the Ranthorn herd being the main topinc, as to him those were the out of the ordinary encounters. Peerimus will also speak on the race war that seemed to have been stirred by Krilanos, another Chold of Chaos, but one bent purely on the destruction and whms that such a mark can bring. He finishes with their destruction of Krilanos and the Blue Dragon Ohzone. Peerimus is very eager to speak to and of Gilan, the Bloodpack druid and to that order hands over a Tree Feather Token. "Assuming it could be planted to survive, Please give this to Gilan and ask him to plant it here. I would like to come back if permitted. It would also allow him to come to Hernamar and directly to my grove there."

When the subject of a power outside the Sawgrass trying to take over Peerimus volunteers what they learned in the Shadow Realm and that thier next steps are going to take them into likely conflict with it. Peerimus spends the rest of any conversation trying to get a better feel for how the drow and others view Gilan. His personality, if they knew him during the Fey Kings awakening and how the Bloodpack druid seemed to view that event and all that has come as a result.

Kazak -
Thursday October 30th, 2008 11:17:57 PM

Kazak accepts the offer of hospitality and food ..... following the two drow and Peerimus ...to the townsquare area "Nice place ..... keeps the heat out " growls the dwarf as he wipes his brow

Relaxing and enjoying the fare sitting next to Durgan ...while Peerimus shares tales with their hosts .....the dwarven warrior adds " ah cousin and brother ...... good to see family working together ..thats important ......... dis is me older brother Durgan and i'm Kazak " as he slaps Durgan on the back with a laugh

The dwarf tells a few tales of his homeland and travels with his brother to the banter

Rash Trinka
Thursday October 30th, 2008 11:28:49 PM

Rash also looks around the city and accepts the food and drink as it is offered. She will ask, "How many people are living here now? It seems to be a nice refuge which could hold many people but what are you hiding from?"

Oddholme Conversations[DM SteveK]
Friday October 31st, 2008 11:44:58 AM

Durgan enjoys the food and drink, but he has to delve into his own stock of ale for anything stronger than water.

Peerimus seems very intrerested in Gilan, and pays for his information by telling the custodians of Oddholme about the creatures they have seen, the eagerness to network with the Bloodpack, and the Feather Token to plant for that network to work.

Aeryon writes down some notes to provide to Trellus and the rest of the Bloodpack as they come back. He is very interested in the description of the Great Maw. For the Great Ranthoms, "they are herd beasts and are able to be stampeded. Tishe' told me that she was almost swallowed by one last year."

Murdock accepts the Feather Token. "Trees are often warped into death by planting in the Sargrass, but maybe Gilan can do something about it anyways.", he tells Peerimus. "I'll give it to him."

As to the disposition of the Bloodpack druids, the drow know less. "Gilan is more powerful than Tishe' in the druidic arts", they acknowledge, "and while Tishe' talks about preservation and Mother Wold a lot, Gilan is more of a hunter and swears by Father Wold. Neither one has animal companions anymore like you do. Tishe's had two companions killed in battle and says she will not get another. Gilan said that he left his wolf with some guy named Eberon, and in exchange has been able to shape change into some very powerful creatures. Much more of a hunter and more wild is Gilan."

Kazak also gets comfortable and admires how the dome keeps it cooler inside than out. Murdock gives a fleeting smile. "Aeryon and I are not related other than being exiled from our race. I think he names cousin every other drow in a like state."

Rash compliments Oddholme and asks more about the place. Murdock seems not to want to talk more, but Aeryon is willing enough. "When the eight members of the Bloodpack sleep here, we have all of ten souls living in Oddholme. To capacity, we are sure there can live several hundred here. In reality, the population will be driven by available food rather than space. Other than some hunting, herding, and gathering the scant bounty of the Sargrass, there is little to sustain a large population."
.......................

Aeryon and Murdock will offer lodgings for the night for the Children of Chaos and the ships crew if the group wishes, or the group can continue on thier journey protecting the GrassSwift on its return to Hook City.

Trace
Friday October 31st, 2008 1:34:37 PM

I suggest that we get a move on back to Hook City and then back to Hernamar for refitting and then move on this new threat. This idle time makes me want to shoot a dwarves. ::::trace cracks a smile at this last bit::::::::

Durgan
Friday October 31st, 2008 3:51:50 PM

Durgan finishes off his mini keg along with his food. "Well, it seems like we have stayed long enough. We delivered the message and note, and EH?" Durgan almost chokes on a piece of food as he sits upright, then pokes his brother in the ribs. "What did that pointy eared varmint just say? Tell him to watch it or I'll stick that bow of his where the sun don't shine." Durgan reaches for his empty mug and tips it upside down and shakes it hoping some more will come out. "Ye best watch it elf, I'm all outta ale." It is difficult to see, but under his immense beard Durgan is trying to suppress a huge grin.

Peerimus AC 26 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166
Friday October 31st, 2008 5:24:26 PM

Peerimus thanks the two drow and files away the information on Gilan and Tishe. This Gilan would be perfect. Tishe to a lesser degree, but if both continue to travel together they would compliment each other and the grove nicely

Peerimus agrees with the others that as much as they might like to stay, they needed to get going. He thanks the drow again and gets Yorrick and heads back to the shoip to get underway.

The druid stoically ignores the banter between Trace and Durgan at first, but then feels an impulse and follows it. "Worry not Durgan. I have plenty of water and we all know you secretly prefer it."

Durgan

Rash Trinka
Friday October 31st, 2008 9:33:01 PM

Rash Trinka holds out her hand towards the two drow elves. "I don't know which powers you worship if any but please accept my blessing. I think you doing a good thing here. Providing a safe haven in this harsh place could save lives. Your earn honor in doing it, but we can't linger. Other tasks call us on."

Rash will head back to the ship and board

Kazak -
Sunday November 2nd, 2008 8:18:09 PM

"Heh ..... yeah we know da feeling about dat .....exiled , outcasts ......well good to see ya trying to keep connected with similar people in similar situations ....... "

"Tanks for everything ..... and da best to yous and da rest of da Bloodpack ..... maybe we'll meet again someday "

The dwarven warrior offers his hand in friendship as they say their farewells

Jurgen
Sunday November 2nd, 2008 9:12:09 PM

Jurgen takes a moment to speak with Murdock and Aeryon. "There is a Great Migration coming to the Southern Continent. I don't know whether you two, or the rest of the Bloodpack, believe that such a thing is real, but we do. As it comes, dramatic events are unfolding across our part of the Wold." He takes a moment to assess the drow's response to this. "I don't know what will happen in the days to come. It may be years before they truly occur or it may be months. But I am sure that the Southern Continent will need heroes when that day arrives. I hope that we will be able to work together to prevent as much damage as we are able... An alliance, of sorts." He smiles shakily. This was definitely a weird situation. "While we each have our own goals and intentions, perhaps a sharing of information and knowledge would be appropriate? Anyways, we should be moving along. Think on it. We can be found at Heranmar, if you need us."

He heads back to the ship. He probably came across as crazy. That being said, who knew what would happen when the Great Migration started. The Children might have to call in every chip they had. So, Jurgen would work hard at getting them some chips to start with.

Firn'gaer
Monday November 3rd, 2008 2:52:26 PM

Firn'gaer remains quiet as their hosts offer food and drink. He accepts the candied insects, but offers them to Rufus. Rufus greedily eats the delicacy. He eats as many as he can not caring for manners.

Once they leave he says "I think before we visit the Star Mages we should return to Henarmar first."

Onward Across the Sargrass[DM SteveK]
Monday November 3rd, 2008 3:03:05 PM

The Children of Chaos make thier farewells and take thier leave from the custodians of Oddholme. Murdock and Aeryon promise to tell the tale of thier visitation to the Bloodpack as soon as they return.

When Rash offers a blessing the drow's eyes become guarded and they look at each other. Then Aeryon shrugs and says, "A cleric from home wouldn't ask, would she?" They accept her blessing for the group.

When Jurgen talks, the drow again look at each other, but this time with nods. "The older members of the Bloodpack and our former mentor, Malafret, have spoken of a coming Great Migration," confirms Murdock, "and the histories that I have seen months ago in some Oglian caves show a previous Migration as well. Just like when events in the past have required the combined efforts of many heroes, I am certain that a Migration will be another such event. We will tell the Bloodpack, and they will be ready to work together."

...........................

Soon enough, the Children of Chaos are aboard the GrassSwift and the ship glides across the tops of the Sargrass. Heading ever northward and a little to the west, several more days pass uneventfully. Ganness has taken the warnings of the drow to heart and vows he'll avoid Rattledam for a year or so. "Wouldn't want my memory to be faded." he laughs in only half a jest.

When the GrassSwift is estimated to be less than a week out from Hook City, the sharp-eyed Trace notices something out in the Grass on the port (left) side. A short patch of Grasses holds the cracked and burned remains of a Sargrass Ship! Laying about the wreckage are several unmoving figures, and then one skeleton on the western side of the clearing laying face down and impaled against the grass with a spear. Some bugs are still on the skeleton, but it is obvious that they only arrived when the blood seeped into the ground.

Straining eyes and ears westward, the crew and CoC can make out several forms occasionally seen porpoising above the Sargrass, and the growl and calls of many animals.

Spot DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { several of the porpoising figures look like a human riding a large reptilian-headed beast. }

Listen DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { There are human screams coming from the 'Grass as well as the hunting calls of Noble Races and beasts. }

Peerimus nods to Jurgen hearing him speak of the Great Migration and throws his support to the effort of keeping ties with the Blood Pack.

Aboard ship, Peerimus spends the days working on the staff and the nights enjoying the stars and rushing wind as the ship speeds along. "Firngear, you are right of course in that we need to get back to Heranmar soon. I too, would like to do so before seeing the mages of the guild. The Gras Swift though is heading to Hook. From there we can return to the dryad and then on to Heranmar. We owe it to Savin and those he left behind to close that chapter sooner rather than later. Magical transport will make it quick."

Following Trace's eyes and hand Peerimus picks out the figures in the grass and sound carrying over it. he relays both to his company. "Human riders on some sort of reptillian mount. I can hear human screams as well as what seem to be hunting calls from the riders" If Peerimus can add information on the mounts he does so. [Spot 28 Listen 28 Know Nature 38, d4 mis-click] Peerimus dwells on it for only the briefest of moments, "Captain, Bring us westward to the downed vessel!" he calls out.

To those near him, "We'll move in to lend any assistance and if it is a hunt we will end it."

Peerimus will cast barkskin upon himself and again upon Yorrick in the next dozen seconds.

Tuesday November 4th, 2008 11:51:45 AM

Jurgen, not at all understandings the events before him, jumps to action. An Alter Self changes him into the form of a troglodyte and, time permitting, he couples it with a Shield spell. He strains both his eyes and ears but, as usual, neither are of much use. So instead the paladin will rely on the other tool at his disposal, his sword.

"Anyone care to inform me as to what is going on?"

Durgan
Tuesday November 4th, 2008 3:52:08 PM

Durgan readies his shield and axe as he waits for the Grass Swift to reach the downed ship. "Let's just make sure who the friends and who the enemies are here before we start smacking people around eh?"

Captain Ganness nods and complies with Peerimus' request; the man trusts the combat reactions of the Children of Chaos from the southbound journey. It takes a minute to change direction and come upon the clearing. As they slide past the shipwreck on the Plains, everyone hears a piercing cry of a hunting animal that vibrates through your bones.

"Rapke!" shouts Ganness. "They must be Baron's Men who are looking for more slaves!"

And Ganness' words soon prove true. On the starboard side of the ship, only 20 feet away, four human figures emerge from the grasses riding on what looks like four-legged velociraptors. The humans carry bows that are knocked and sighting along the ship. Trace is able to spy the group and nails one rider to his saddle! Intelligent and hate filled eyes gaze at the GrassSwift, and then all four monsters open thier mouths and scream. The sound washes over the GrassSwift, and everyone on board feels the sonic vibrations of the scream.

All Will DC 15 or Highlight to display spoiler: {stunned for d4 rounds}

Of the crew, all but four freeze in terror, including Captain Ganness. The ship is uncontrolled and lazily continues its course.

The three riders recognize Trace as the most serious threat and aim at the flying archer. Six arrows fly out and two strike Trace. (AC 15, nat20 crit miss, 30, 17, 14, 8) Damage: 21 to Trace

About 1000 feet ahead of the ship, at least four more Rapke Riders are seen occasionally above the Grass, chasing frightened screams in the Sargrass with whips and nets.

Peerimus's eyes narrow as Gannes confirms his suspisions. "Slavers." he says to no one in particular. "Take them down!" The druids eyes flash in anger, Peerimus then points to the center of the 4 near the ship and casts a spell. A torrent of rain water pelts down over about 20' soaking riders and beasts. "Firngaer! Your Tentacle spell!" he then calls out. [Cast Create water]

"More riders are about 1,000 feet ahead!" Peerimus points them out.

If the Grass Swift is heading in the right direction he calls for ahold on everyone count. "wait for the ship to close more."

Yorrick made a 14 but gets an addition +4 against enchantment spells and effects. so it depends on what the Rapke scream classifies as.

Wednesday November 5th, 2008 3:19:22 PM

Jurgen, hearing that they are slavers, moves from cautious preparation to fury. The paladin may fear the undead, but he hated slavery. The sonic vibrations move through him and, for a moment they seems to affect him, before he manages to overcome it [Will Save - I rolled a natural one, but I can't remember off the top of my head if we use the critical failure rolls in the Wold. If we do, Jurgen is stunned for 3 rounds.]

Providing he isn't affected by the noise, Jurgen throws a blast of Chain Lighting the nearest targets [Primary Target: 12d6=46 - Up to 11 secondary targets: 23 damage. Reflex save vs DC 23 for half]. If any of the targets appear not to be slavers, Jurgen will choose not to hit them.

(OOC: I pick the troglodyte form because I'm totally a cheater. Alter self gives the natural armor bonus of the creature and Trogs have a +6.)

Peerimus shouts that the Riders are slavers and calls out a plan. Water pours over the four Riders and thier Rapke. Although he notes his spell only produces half the water it should, all four targets are soaked.

Yorrick looks to succumb, but his magical nature overcomes the Rapke Scream. (It is indeed a Compulsion = Enchantment)

Trace takes a bead on another Rider when the Rapke scream washes over him. (Will Save DC 12: Fail). The ranger staggers in the air, stunned. (1 round)
(ooc: In an effort to keep the battle moving and without access to Trace's CS, I took a stab at what his WIll save was based on a 15th level Ranger +2.)

Firn'gaer checks and sees that no one but the Rapke and Riders are nearby, and the Black Tentacles erupt from the earth, pinning all four Rapke and the three living Riders.

Jurgen is also stunned by the sonic vibration of the Rapke scream. (sorry, nat 1 always fails in the Wold)(3 rounds)

Kazak gets the remaining sailors working and runs to grab the ship's wheel. With one of the sailors, he is able to steer the GrassSwift.
........................

Horror fills the eyes of the three living Riders as first they and thier mounts are doused with water on the Sargrass and then held in place by Firn'gaer's magical spell. Already, the insects of the Plains boil out of the ground and begin to swarm over the soaked Rapke and Riders. One Rider is able to break free and launch himself out of the grasping Tentacles, and into the deep Sargrass before being lost from view. (more than 5 feet of heavy undergrowth = total concealment). The insects follow.

The Grassswift continues sailing across the wind and makes 120 feet in a matter of seconds. The hunting Riders ahead (about 880 feet) seem unaware of the advancing ship... at least they are not turning around, and continue to pursue the frightened screams in the 'Grass.

OOC- will save last round = 19

Durgan stows his axe and aids in steering the ship. "Hey brother, I bet ye never thought we would be the ones tryin ta steer one of these boats!" As they get closer he will ready his crossbow for use.

"Slavers eh? I guess they are the bad guys then." Durgan shakes his head at the raiders under attack by the insects. "Heh heh. Ye think they would know better than to get wet out there eh? A bit cruel but I guess they had it coming."

"Hey Jurgen, you ok over there? You look kinda slow." The dwarf smiles, hoping the banter covers his worry of those being pursued by the raiders.

Peerimus AC 31 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166
Thursday November 6th, 2008 7:49:42 AM

Peerimus considers the first group taken care of and heads to the bow with Kazak now on the wheel. Jurgen and the others would hopefully snap out of it soon. "Firngaer can you slow them up? Any thing I do might hit the humans they are chasing. I can't see what's going on too well."

Peerimus then glances towards the main mast and the suggestion of climbing up. "No I think we keep to the deck. Keep us steady after them Kazak!"

Peerimus decides his best course is to wait

Rash Trinka  d20+20=32 ;
Thursday November 6th, 2008 8:02:33 AM

(Sorry about the missed post.)

Rash easily shrugs aside the vibrations and stares intently at the enemy (save 32 from earlier rounds). She wishes that she could reach out and smite the slavers but all of her spells are to short ranged for now. She decides to cast a fly spell on herself but stays on board the ship since its speeds seems to rival her own speed at flying.
