Durgan and Kazak work with the sailors to keep the GrassSwift moveing forward. Two of the sailors and Ganness are able to recover thier wits and begin to help as well. The jesting tone of the dwarves does much to stiffen the spine of the sailors.
Jurgen reels and keeps hearing a ringing in his ears that he can do nothing about. (2 rounds)
Peerimus runs to the front of the ship to keep watch on the Riders hunting ahead of the ship.
Rash also moves forward and casts a flying spell on herself, though she keeps on ship to bide her time.
Firn'gaer is able to spot a slaver and then Dim Door 60 feet above the Rider. *Pop* Highlight to display spoiler: { Firn'gaer can see through the concealing 'Grasses from his height and knows there are four more Riders on Rapke, two more walking slavers who has almost 20 Bounders (two footed Rapke the size of big dogs) that are acting as hounds to bring the chased people to bay. Another slaver has a chain with three people on it, and there are two people still not captured by the slavers.}
Trace aims into the concealing 'Grasses, and the Whispering Bow calls almost lovingly to the slaver; "no where to hide, evil one", it croons. And the seeking ability of the bow pierces the Sargrass and the Rider who falls dead. (Trace is now 240 feet behind the GrassSwift)
The GrassSwift sails forward, and is now but 660 feet from the hunting slavers.
...........................
One Rapke breaks from the Tentacles and flees across the Plains to the south, trailing biting, stinging, and clawing insects. (Grapple 32) The death of the water-soaked Rideris almost a blessing, however, for his two companions and thier three remaining Rapke have a worse fate. The insects of the Sargrass boil out of the ground and begin to consume their prey. The screams of the Rapke and Riders have no magical compulsion this time, but the horror-filled anguish is heard far over the Sargrass.
Getting squished by the Tentacles is no fun either.
Firn'gaer Highlight to display spoiler: {
One of the Riders near the slaves notes the appearance of Firn'gear and shouts to his companions. "Disperse! A Star Mage is above us. Let us not provide him a large target." The Riders move away from each other (at least 50 feet between Riders), put away thier whips and nets, and bring out bows.
The slavers and thier Bounders continue to pursue thier quarry of the fleeing shipwreck survivors.
The one slaver with the three captives moves to place a dagger on the ear of a captive. "Move away, Star Mage!" he calls, "or this woman dies from your actions!" }

"Can you hear their screams?" Firn'gaer said glaring with an unblinking stare. "Can you hear the screams of the others that I pinned to the ground and dowsed with water. Human and Raptke, both, eaten alive as the insects of the Sawgrass fed on their alive screaming bodies." He gives the human a moment to conjure up the imagery in his mind. "I care nothing for you or your companions. I only want your captives released and the other to stop their pursuit of the others."
"If you do not, know this . . . I am Firn'gaer of the Children of Chaos (I know doesn't sound scary to me either) I have fought and defeated a Sawgrass Gelendan. I defeated a great dragon. If you do not, I will unleash my unholy wrath upon you. You will be eaten alive only to find that death's cold embrace will not find you. I will keep you alive only to make an example to others of your kind. Over and over I will bring you to the edge of death only to snatch you from it's loving arms. And at some point you will beg for your final death. At that point and only that point may I finally grant that which you ask."
"What will it be? Life? Or food for the insects of the grasslands?"

Lhari tells Firn'gaer quietly that he is ready to Shatter the dagger as soon as there is an opportunity.
The GrassSwift, under the direction of Ganness and the steering of Kazak and Durgan, increases speed and flashes across the Sargrass. (160 feet to the Riders) ................
The trapped Riders and Rapke cease screaming. Soon, all that is left of the once-slavers and mounts are bleached bones glittering in the sun of the Sargrass.
The slaver with his dagger at the throat of the captive only laughs at Firn'gear's feeble threats. "Nothing you have will save the life of this girl!" he shouts. "I give you five seconds to start moving towards your ship and turning it around before these all begin to grow second smiles!" he laughs evilly.
The slavers with the Bounders have stopped pursuing the fleeing refugees and are watching the face-off.
The four Rapke riders take the opportunity to turn Firn'gaer into a straw target. Eight arrows fly towards the wizard, but only three strike true. (Firn'gaer takes 22 damage) "Yah, get goin'", shouts one of the Riders.

Peerimus's anger at the notion of the slavers and what they represent overrule any pity or remorse he would have felt for others. Knowing the fate of those covered in water and then immobilized on the Plains would have likely spared any other kind of creature he knows from such a fate. But not for those who hold such a special place of vileness in his heart. Peerimus can not hear the conversation Firngaer is having, but he does know that four more are targetting the wizard and even from here they are not beyond his reach. They were not before, but the possibiility of those they are chasing of being caught in the spell was one he would not take. Now things were different and Peerimus call aloud to 'Father' in his native tongue.

Rash tries to stop the slaver holding a dagger with a Command, but the slaver knows a spell when he sees one, even though he doesn't know what kind it is, and his dagger plunges to the shackled woman (ooc:Readied Action goes first). She has also been waiting and pulls away (ooc: Readied Action), leaving a deep wound, but not one immediately fatal. (AC 13, Dam 5) And then the spell takes root in the slaver's mind and he can't move!
Firn'gaer casts his own spell, Grasping the slaver in a nigh unbreakable grip before plummeting down the to the Grass. Hidden as he is, he can now only see the Grasped slaver and the three shackled humans, one bleeding badly. Of course, that means the gnome has complete concealment from the other slavers, too!
Kazak and Durgan run towards the bow of the GrassSwift to be with Peerimus. From the advantage of the deck, the two dwarves can see the Riders, but not the dismounted slavers, Bounders, or fugatives.
Trace flies as fast as he can (ooc: 120 feet) but is increasingly being left behind by the GrassSwift.
Peerimus intones cryptic words and with a determined hand, brings into being a ravaging cyclone directly on one of the Riders. Both the Rider and his Rapke is pounded by the incessant winds, and, with a cry of dismay, the Rider is plucked from his saddle and lofted into the air. The Rapke itself is too large for the vortex, but is still scraped by the flying debris.
Jurgen slowly shakes his head and comes out of his daze. He takes time to identify what in Domi's name is actually going on before contributing to the combat.
The GrassSwift under the captaincy of Ganness continues its sprint across the Sargrass. Now, all but four sailors have recovered from the Rapke cry. (ooc: moves 160 feet) ...............
The Grasped slaver doesn't struggle from the spell on him from Rash, and lays helpless in the Grasping Hand.
The slavers with the Bounders shout a command and the Bounders and thier masters fade into the Sargrass. (ooc: total Concealment, +20 on Hide checks DC 32 to see any)
The Rapke Riders also seem to have lost interest in continuing the fight. Two turn thier mounts due south and race across an area of shorter grass, probably a Ranthom trail. Those Rapke can really sprint, and within seconds they are 250 feet south and still moving. The riderless Rapke follows the two.
The last Rider brings out a small stone and crushes it, creating a Large Fire Elemental. "Burn everything!" he shouts pointing in the direction of the shackled captives and is clearly heard by Rash. Then he too heads south (ooc: 50 feet away)
The fire elemental surges in joy and moves through the Sargrass towards the shackled captives, the Grasped slaver, and the hidden Firn'gaer. A wake of fire erupts every step it touches the dry Sargrasses.
A cry of horror wells up from the sailors; Fire on the Plains! There is nothing for hundreds of miles that will put out a conflagration that could erupt! ..............

(If this can be done as a move action, he will encircle the fire with a wall of fire, heat inward, to burn the fuel for the fire and keep it contained. The radius of the circle is 70-ft, but Firn'gaer will make only large enough to circle the existing fire.)

Rash Trinka AC 32 hps 130/130 Tuesday November 11th, 2008 11:05:01 PM
Rash also isn't worried about the other slavers running away. Their sort would always be around and their evil was stopped for now. She warns, "Careful, I am going to summon some water and I expect the bugs to come with it. Rash casts the spell create water dumping 30 gallons of water on the brewing fire.

Peerimus AC 31 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166 Wednesday November 12th, 2008 7:32:27 AM
Peerimus sends the cyclone 60 upwards with the man still trapped within. The fire was a nominal issue, the captives were the main concern and pouring water all over the place would certainly cause some anxiety. "Captain we need to come in and get those people as quick as we can." Peerimus does not take any other ctions so as to maintain control over the whirlwind
Slavers and Captives[DM SteveK] Wednesday November 12th, 2008 11:18:11 AM
With any further resistance melting away or sprinting for all they are worth, the Children of Chaos are able to concentrate on the fire. The firey elemental was only on the Wold for a few seconds, and between Firn'gaer's Wall of Fire (with heat inward) and Rash's water storm (that only produces 15 gallons), the possible firestorm across the Plains is averted.
The GrassSwift slows down for a pick-up, and Trace is able to catch up to the ship.
It is a simple matter after that to pick up the three captives, the two other fugatives, and provide them food, shelter, and security.
Another simple matter to restrain or slay the slaver in the Grasping Hand and the Rider in the whirlwind depending on what the Children of Chaos want to do.
There are also probably a couple more slavers who don't want to be found along with a pack of Bounders in the deep Sargrass nearby.
Pretty much it is the CoC call on how to handle the shipwreck victims and the slavers. Ganness and the sailors will let such things go and are ready to sail to Hook City at Peerimus' OK.
Rash Trinka AC 32 hps 130/130 Wednesday November 12th, 2008 8:13:28 PM
Rash in her giant form will swoop down and gather up the slaver and then fly to the ship dumping him to the hard planks. She says, "Tie him up please while I look to his captives." If the victims are already on board, Rash will check them over for injuries, otherwise she will try and get them on the ship as easily as she can, without frightening them and then check them for injuries.
Durgan AC31 Hp182/182 Wednesday November 12th, 2008 9:26:46 PM
Durgan trains his crossbow on the slaver. "What were ye about then eh? Talk or we'll toss ye over into the wet grass."
"Rash, ask them what happened."
Kazak - Ac 32 Hp 170 Wednesday November 12th, 2008 10:10:06 PM
The dwarven warrior grabs some rope and ties up the the slaver Rash dropped onto the deck and any others that also were brought aboard ......
Taking better care of the captives brought aboard ....Kazak finds some blankets and some water for them .... to help comfort them ..... " your safe now ......can you tell us how many more were captured ??.....what happened aboard the ship ?"
Peerimus AC 31 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166 Wednesday November 12th, 2008 10:20:20 PM
With the fire containd and them extinguished Peerimus can keep his control over the Whirlwind and thus deposits the held man upon the deck with a short unpleasant drop before sending the cyclone to the rear of the vessels and along a path towrds the Bounders and possibly hiding Slavers. There he releases control and let nature takes it course over the whirlwinds path. Instructing Gannes to put sail and distance less it reverse course and catch them. With a deep growl, Peerimus has Yorrick come to stand over both men. In common he adds as if speaking to Yorrick, "I know they are not fish, but we must make do in the wilds my friend."
Kazak has asked the pertinent questions and so Peerimus remains quiet. He nods towards Gannes "We sail on for Hook captain." Unless any of the rescued speak up with reason to linger.
Jurgen [AC 34 - HP 141/141] Thursday November 13th, 2008 3:43:00 AM
Jurgen takes his time getting himself together. Seeing that the rest of the Children appear to have the situation well under control, he sits back and awaits the answers. How slavery got to be a reality, Jurgen wasn't sure he'd ever understand.
Slavers and Captives[DM SteveK] Thursday November 13th, 2008 1:25:38 PM
The slavers become the captives and are herded by the Children of Chaos to near the front of the GrassSwift. Both of them are battered and bruised by whirlwinds, magical hands, and unceremoniously dumped onto the ship. Rash calls for someone to tie them up, and Kazak obliges. (ooc: Skill Check please). Rash, Durgan, and Peerimus with Yorrick all try to soften the slavers up with a little intimidation, but it doesn't look effective yet. (ooC: Skill Checks, please) The slavers don't try to escape, but they are rather sullen.
There are five fugatives from the shipwreck that are found, the woman was a passenger and the other four are sailors. Minor scrapes and bruises are taken care of by the expert Rash, and the fugatives are rather happy at thier rescue and the CoC reassurances. The four sailors can't say much other than the Baron's Men had an ambush where they stunned the crew and caused the ship to drive into a pit of short 'Grass. After that, it was a lot of running and hiding involved.
The woman introduces herself as Aerolinia of South Hook and is dressed, though dirty, in well-made and probably expensive clothing. (Appraisal Check to find out). She insists that the GrassSwift return to the wrecked ship and recover her possessions, and Ganness shrugs and complies. "No use leaving loot for someone else." he reasons. Gathering her goods and anything else of worth from the wreck, Ganness turns the ship towards Hook City.
"Murder and piracy are capital offenses for the Hook City courts", Ganness tells the Children of Chaos. "And we've got enough witnesses for that. Unfortuneately, there are no laws about being a slaver or a Baron's Man, but they'll still be wetted down all the same. We get these scum to Hook City, and I promise it will be a short, speedy trial."
Firn'gaer - AC 19, HP 75/97 Thursday November 13th, 2008 6:38:25 PM
"Were there any other survivors of the crash?" He asks the survivors. "We should take a look around from the air. I don't want to leave any behind if it can be helped. In any event, unless any cargo is time sensitive, I think we should at least try."
Peerimus AC 31 HP 112/112 and Yorrick AC 32 HP 164/166 d20+11=26 ; d20+7=22 ; Thursday November 13th, 2008 10:45:31 PM
Peerimus immediately agrees to move to the downed ship and salvage what can be saved and restore to the woman, any possessions she claims as hers. Once that is done he will turn his attention to the captured slavers. "The captain has outlined your position very well. I do not offer the promise of freedom, but do offer to hear what you have to say and may speak to the court on your behalf. I would have information on these Barons. Anything and everything you can muster." [Diplomacy 26 Sense Motive 22]
Failing any progress he will ask kazak and Durgan if they have studied a more direct approach that might be used.
Rash Trinka AC 32 hps 130/130 Thursday November 13th, 2008 11:23:27 PM
Rash asks Captain Gaines, " I thought the wood of the ship was very valuable. Wouldn't just salvaging some of that help turn a profit for you?"
Rash heads over to Aerolina and asks, "What kind of stuff are you looking to recover? Wouldn't the Baron's men taken it away by now? Do you think you were the target of the attack or just unlucky?"
Kazak - Ac 32 Hp 170 d20=12 ; d20+10=11 ; Thursday November 13th, 2008 11:52:49 PM
Tying up the captives .....(d20=12 rope use check) ......." don't try anything ...." growls Kazak (d20=10=11 intimidate check)
Adding his thoughts to Rash's ..... " can we tow it ?? ..... just a thought "
" well Durgan can get'em drunk on ale ..... maybe that will lossen der tongues " ....... smiling as he says this ...... knowing his brothers reaction
Jurgen [AC 34 - HP 141/141] d20+7=13 ; Friday November 14th, 2008 2:03:32 PM
"I don't know enough about the specifics of the wood, but I suspect that the magic disappears once the item is broken." Jurgen says to Rash as a mostly off-hand remark. Before Domi (or the Crones) had transformed him, he would have been able to look at the ship and determine the magic. Now there was a different focus to Jurgen's life.
He watches over the captives and considers the parallel to the situation with the wolves which seemed long ago. And it makes Jurgen wonder if letting the wolves (and the giants) go free was the right choice. He'd have to look into it when the Children got back. Maybe get a message sent or scouts... Something to put some thought into.
"We've made some more enemies, everyone. Not something we could have avoided. But those who escaped will likely be able to share that the GrassSwift was the boat we were on. Captain Ganness, I don't know much about the politics of the Grasses, but the Baron may send someone to make... inquiries to you. I don't know whether you'll have any loyalties to us once we depart your company, but regardless I'll suggest you tell them who we are. The safety of you, your crew, and your ship should be of tantamount importance to you." He sounds somewhat awkward suggesting it to the Captain. Maybe the Captain didn't care about what happened to the Children a day or a year from their departure of his ship. But Jurgen didn't want to be responsible for people who he couldn't protect.
Slavers and Captives[DM SteveK] d20+3=21 ; d20+3=4 ; Friday November 14th, 2008 5:24:23 PM
Inquiries are made, but no, these five were the only ones to have survived the wreck and chase by the Baron's Men. By the time the GrassSwift gets to HookCity, the sailors have all signed on with Captain Ganness and are now members of his crew. For Aerolinia, she gives a musical laugh at the idea that she was targeted deliberately. "My goods are my own, merely items of my trade", and here she indicates a few clothing trunks, even opening one to produce a flimsy, sparkling garment that reveals far more than it hides. "If one of the Barons truely wanted to target me, he could have contracted for my services like anyone else!" Her frank and appraising stares at anyone, man or woman, make it plain this 'lady of the evening' is perfectly content to be what she is.
Other thoughts are made towards any other goods and the valuable druid-wood of the ship itself. Captain Ganness' assessment of what is valuable as a merchant skipper has successfully stripped the wreck of everything that can easily be moved, especially as much of the druid-wood as possible. "I've marked the wreck on my charts and will have some groups of Hook City Protectors to come out and make a proper salvage job of it", he declares, "Since you asked, I'll give you 25% of the salvage rights on the ship. That is, 25 to you, 25 to me, 25 to the Protector groups who come out, and 25 to Hook City government. Fair and equitable."
The captured slavers respond to Peerimus' words and grudgingly tell him some of what they know. While the CoC don't get any useful information as to the strongholds or hideouts of the Barons, they get some background information. (Background Info if you want to read: Highlight to display spoiler: {Seems this team is a procurement team from a small outpost. Both of these two claim they have never been to a big stronghold. The guy who had the fire elemental was the one who gathered the group together to go on a hunt, and the wrecked ship was their first strike. Using thier Rapke, they were able to get a single Ranthom to graze down an area for a trap and lined up on the other side for a ship to come by and investigate. The Rapke's screams would paralyze the crew, the ship would crash, and the hunter group would get some good slaves for the Barons. Rapke are kept by Barons and trained to be super warsteeds.} )
For Ganness, he laughs long and hard over Jurgen's worry for him. "Many Barons already have me on thier "most wanted" list, so one or two more isn't going to worry me none. Don't concern yourself about me!"
It takes five days to get to Hook City. On day two, one of the slavers manages to find a time in the night where he is unwatched, slips his bonds, and jumps over the side. (Ganness is not concerned. "No food, no water, no weapons and alone in the Sargrass. If he's lucky, he'll get eaten before he dies of thirst." ) The other slaver is still there and available when the GrassSwift makes port.
.......................
The morning of the fifth day dawns hot and clear, and the GrassSwift makes the last few miles to Hook City. Already, the towers of the magical city are seen, and other ships ply the nearby 'grasses.
"Good to have you aboard", says Ganness again. "May your days be profitable!"
......................
ALL - 650xp for the last encounter and 500 gold each for the CoC part of the salvage.

Rash Trinka AC 32 hps 130/130 Saturday November 15th, 2008 10:22:56 AM
Rash frowns when she hears the news that a slaver got away. She somehow doubts that the slaver just dived overboard without any provisions and has a feeling that the slaver or his patrons will somehow appear in their future. Still since she can't do anything about it, she keeps her peace.
Rash stares at Aerolinia and seperates 100 gps from her cut and pulls the woman aside. She thrusts the money into her hands and says, "No I am not trying to hire you for your normal services but we girls have to stick together and you will need some seed money to set yourself up correctly. All I ask is if you hear any interesting pillow talk, talk that might interest us, you share it with me. I won't betray your confidence and will only use the information to help people. Fair?"
(ooc Rash would like to teleport to her home if possible to visit her family. I have no idea if it is within range. Please enlighten me. Thanks.)
Rash will pull Peerimus aside and smile brightly at him. I am going to pop home for a visit tonight and will return tomorrow if that is alright with you. Where are you planning on staying? I will rent a room there, study it to make the job of hopping around more easy."

Sounds good, unless there are objections. Anyone?
Jurgen [AC 34 - HP 141/141] Sunday November 16th, 2008 1:42:03 PM
When the Grass Swift returns to Hook City, Jurgen tries to find if there is anyone the Children could hire as scouts to check up on the various going-ons around the Southern Continent (specifically, the giants and centaurs at the moment, although he's also curious about the Mailed Fist). Other than that, he approves of Peerimus' plan.
