Lian

"I just think the forest is collateral damage Gunther! I don't think it was intentional."

The monk approaches the moving giants with caution. Be prepares to spontaneously cast a cure.

The view... (DM Jay)
Monday October 20th, 2008 1:25:48 PM

Here is the scene you are all seeing (exception is perhaps Ingrge who is enroute and Gunther and KNara who are occupied with keeping airborne and are still at a distance.).

The hill is tree covered (or at least the portion still standing) and you are there on southern most slope of what appears to be a small shallow valley.

The giants seem to have moved up over the top of this rise carving a path through the trees as they went. Odd thing about the path, it seems to have started in the middle of the valley floor and moved up to where you are.

There is white streams of smoke in the distance, which you can only make out due to the shimmer against the stars it causes.

The three Emeralds who move to help in the situation realize a few things rather quickly. First and most important, the giants want nothing to do with you and take huge, feeble swings as you get close. Lian nearly gets his head knocked off trying to dodge and administer a cure. Athalorn nearly hit by a falling branch torn off and thrown by one frost giant.
Falin is making headway on the flames and the geyser is working very well with the quench spell.

Aeralia appears exactly where she want to be and views the scene.

Ingrge is still some distance off but can see an orange glow in the direction of the Emeralds. It looks like flames on a hillside.

It is still only about 1am in the morning and it is actually a little chilly. Some clouds are rolling in.

Seeing what is being described by Gunther via "ear mail" Ingrge tkes out a scroll and after carefully scrutinizing the area, announces himself before reading it.

" Ladies and Gents I am incoming and about to pop in. I would like to keep my head."

Opening the teleport scroll, he reads it popping into place just next to the fire, (about 15 feet away and 6 inches off the ground). 17 should be no problem with the teleport.

Once there Ingrge looks around to see what is going on and to try and locate his companions. spot16 natural 1.

K'nara (posted By Kent)
Monday October 20th, 2008 6:28:44 PM

Gunther feels K'nara go stiff in his grasp and the Blade Dancer ever-so-slightly turns her head so she can stare at Gunther. There appears to be no humor in her eye at the moment.

"What do you mean, I need to up my work out regimen. If you weren't playing with that cat of yours everyday and actually doing some work, you might have some actual muscles. Now get us over there where we can actually see what's going on before our friends are all dead."

If it didn't mean dropping the love of his life, the warrior would shrug. The mention of his cat, however, sets him to chuckling as he scans the terrain below for his kitty. Hopefully she'll join in on the hunt. It's been a while since she's seen any action.

Falin
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 9:46:16 AM

Falin continues to move systematically from tree to tree. Starting at the bottom of each tree and working his way up. Looking up through the smoke he notes the clouds and prays that it is rain on the way.

"Is everyone still doing alright?" Falin yells through the ring.

If Falin begins to have problems breathing he will turn off the geyser, take out his bottle of air, place the open end in his mouth like scuba gear and then continue with the geysey to put out the fire

Lian
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 12:10:46 PM

The monk flinches as the blows come in, but they aren't to much of a threat apparently. Giving up on the fleeing giants, Lian turns to the flames. Not able to do much, the monk does his best to help.

Lian casts Protection from Fire on Falin. Then suggests walking into the greatest concentration of flame and using the geyser there. "The initial flame was from a dragon, but the fire itself isn't magical, I don't think. You should be fine."

Fighting the flames... (DM Jay)
Tuesday October 21st, 2008 5:12:40 PM

The giants move of north, back the way they came.

Everyone eventually groups up on the hilltop and coordinate fire fighting.

Lian casts fire protection on Falin, and with Falin's bottle of air, he can make a dent in the flames.
b[]Gunther and Knara[/b] 'land', or at the very least, attempt it. They're on the ground anyway.
Ingrge pops in and with his help, with a spell or two, can make fast work of the fire. (There is no lingering magic in this area)
Aeralia has taken quite awhile to survey the damage and the few giant belongings left behind. All that is left are a few charred axe hafts, several bodies which are badly burnt (the ravens have already started in) and the one or two large daggers or shortsword. No value in anything... nothing is magical.

After about two hours of furious work, the fire is down to a managable level. There is no wind, though clouds have gotten heavy and thick and the chill is sharpening. The stars are all but gone. It is pitch dark, save the one or two flickering patches of flame. It is now about 3am. You can see lights in a few windows in the direction of Angel Springs, though they are a distance off. A sound of what seems to be thunder can be heard in the distance to the north.

What is your next move? Everyone is together. Any questions? The next round or two, feel free to use any spells if you wish, just specify what you are doing.

Good Luck.

I am a bit surprised to find this many giants in the Valley. The towers surrounding the area are supposed to magically keep them away from here. The warrior grins from his position on top of K'nara. Even though he knows his next comment is about to cause him a great deal of pain, the warrior smiles. "See...I told you you vere getting heavy!" Offering a hand to K'nara, Gunther surveys the scene around him (Spot=20). He rubs at his eyes as he realizes how late it has become. "Vell, I vould have prefered to get a little rest. But ve should probably give chase. Find out how de giants are getting in."

Falin finishes up with the fires and moves over to the party. He pats out some of the smouldering hairs on his head. Hearing Gunther he says, "I am not sure. They didn't seem to keep on having anything to do with us. Looked like they just wanted to leave."

He looks around, "And after a throttling like that I can see why."

"Falin's right. That was a pounding they took and seeing us coming in with magic and stuff whirling about, I suspect they hated another one!" He laughs. "Anyway, Gunther is right too. I think we need to give chase, but perhaps wait a little while. Let them think we gave up. Chasing down a wounded creature is never good. They can sometimes turn fierce. And these, being giants, might do worse. Besides, look at that trail, it'll hardly be difficult to follow!"

Signs are lit (DM Jay B)
Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 5:36:46 PM

Knara and Gunther chastize each other for gaining weight.

Lian and Falin realize the giants don't want to linger where great magics are involved.

You all know the direction the giants went and seem to agree on the way to proceed. So you all make an effort to find something else on the giants. With the combined help of everyone, you still find nothing.

You all determine that waiting awhile then tracking the giants is best and you do so. Its now about 4am. You all start moving along the torn forest and down into the valley. The giants have a head start. Over land travel is easy, the giants have helped in that regard. However, you all possess other magic that can help in that respect.

What to do? Where to go when the trail runs out?

(OOC: rough estimate on how many giants we are following and where they are heading? Toward the Scab or furhter into the Crescent Valley?)

Ingrge meets up with the rest of his party and sems to be actually happy. There is a smile on his face and lightness to his step that you haven't seen in a long time, if ever.

"Ok so I guess we are following of rather large friends that went yonder. So does anyone not have a mode of trsvel that is better equiped to follow these guys than your feet? I've got my boots and a fly spell but that may not last long enough to help out. Or we could use the ring and have someone or myself fly ahead to scout out a point in front of them and teleport there and cut them off so to speak. Thoughts?"

Kent, I mentioned in a previous post (back when you were out), that there may have been about 50. Less than a dozen walked away from the dragon's attack. There are 30-35 corpses.

Falin takes to the air and wonders if there is a good dragon known to be in the area. (Falin knows from his time adventuring that not ALL giants are evil and frost giants are no exception.)

Gunther has studied felines enough by now to know that Delilah may not be fond of being a mount. However, you may be able to acquire a feline mount at some point.

Ingrge ponders cutting off the giants but Lian suggests otherwise.

Lian prepares his carpet for travel again.

KNara suggests that the Emeralds should know what to do, but can't come up with anything at the moment herself.

Athalorn looks determined about something, his mind working furiously on details.

For that matter there really shouldn't be many unknown dragons in the area either, unless all of the Teucri artifacts and constructions are failing. If so we may have a real interesting time ahead of us.

The only metalic dragon I know of that is known to us is Lord S. But I can't imagine that would be his response to an incursion of giants.

Ok so let's follow at a relatively safe distance in the manner that best keeps us in striking distance if that is necessary and then move forward faster when we have an idea of where they are going.

Unless of course someone has something else in mind.

Falin and Gunther suggest taking to the air.

Lian has already started off.

K'Nara doesn't seem to care how the travel happens, just that it needs to soon.

Athalorn says, "Friends, I think I can get into the good graces of the giants by taking on their form. I'll attempt it, but I have to go now." So he transforms into a raven and takes to the air again, Glannath in the tow. (This is Simon's out for now. We are down one Athalorn.)

Moving along...
Wednesday October 29th, 2008 1:49:39 PM

Soo.... as you move along, the trail moves beyond the shallow valley and up into the hill well out of the realm of halflings.

The Emeralds continue on, moving gradually up in elevation. They come upon village after village,
most of large size, though one or two look like old halfling villages, long abandoned. The undergrowth grows thinner and shorter. The trees are long
and lean, their tops far above the forest floor and their trunk bare of branches, the first ones starting about thirty feet up. Bark is scraped off
in places on many of the trees. It is clear that giants passed by quite recently.

Soon the group finds a large abandoned hamlet in the foot hills. It is clearly a giant dwelling. It is quiet. There is a noise off toward
the middle of town. It is far to quiet to be a giant, but something is alive.

Hours have passed and sun is up. There is a dew and smell of wet leaves and lichen fill your nose. The sun is off slightly to your right. At some point the swathe turned east.

Tanistat of Ga'al (DM POST)
Monday November 3rd, 2008 7:48:00 PM

"I am Tanistat." The man falls to his knees and just goes off, seemingly relieved to have someone to speak to.

"We were here to find our brethren who disappeared a little while back and followed the rumors that they might be around here. We were on the road.

It happened like a whirlwind, thundering all around us. Then they came. All sorts. They took us off for what they said was a 'Great holy mission for Glandmarroc'.
We were crated up in our own boxes and hauled away to a cold mountainous area. Cavernous. We were there. He commanded us to do a Implantation. How he got one, I have no idea.

The Seed was damaged. We said it shouldn't be done.
He demanded he was His Avatar! In the flesh. Now that the great green wyrm lay rotting in the ground and can do nothing. Nothing in the realm could stop his conquest to rule Yrth.

Gregoraux tried the ritual, failed and was pulled apart for his trouble.
Myself and Danim were the only ones left with the power to accomplish it. The acolytes were killed outright, being weak and unskilled in the transplantation ritual.
I'd be surprised if Danim went through with it, he doesn't approve of filthy races.

Grandmarroc needed rest when it didn't take the first time. I escaped soon after. I don't know how or why, but it seemed very sparsely guarded.
The hill giant guarding me looked right at me as I went. Rather stupid, but no worse than elves or dwarves I suppose."

So Tanistat, How is it that any heart seeds survived the destruction of the temple and the master heart seed?

Interesting that he was worried about Parnoth but not that which killed him. You would think that if he thought Parnoth could stop him, that whatever killed him could too.

So where exactly can we find this Glandmarroc? I think we need to have a lttle chat. and I think you should accompany us.

What kind of giant is this Glandmarroc fellow? Were all the giants that were with him of the same tribe? Did you here see any pets or other animals with them?

Ga'alee (DM POST)
Wednesday November 5th, 2008 9:26:25 PM

"My knowledge of giants is limited, but I know they weren't all of the same tribe, in fact, I heard something about a unification of tribes.
Glandmarroc was muttering about a trio of attacks on the humble small one's hovels. I think he was saying something about a simotaneous attack.
But my giant is rusty. I think he mentioned Angelic Geyser? The stouts were to be exterminated.

Now, if your going to threaten me, I'd like to point out I'm being cooperative. If you have any illusions to my honesty, realize that I have no reason to lie either. I'm not exactly in the position. As for turning me into a rat, after all I've seen and been through, it might make for an improvement."

It is clear he is being as cooperative as he can for being as tormented as he is.

All you have to do is not fight the spell I cast on you and you can be on your way. Now there is still danger in that you will have to use your wits to live but you will be able to move more quickly and directly than is possible now and with the 12 hours duration it should nearly get you home and far enough away from us that it would take some doing for you to harm or betray us. And before you ask, the spell I would use is polymorph any object. I would turn you into a carrier pigeon. You would retain your intelligence and self awareness and be able to find your way home quite quickly. I would however be sure to be near the ground at the twelfth hour so to speak."

"It gets real steep and hard to miss, thats how I tripped and woke up at the bottom. Lucky I didn't die really.
Well, you gonna turn me into a bird now? I'd prefer a bear or something strong actually, but I suppose you don't want me to be able to harm anyone. How about something with talons though, just in case?!" Asks the cleric hopefully. "When I get out of hear, I'll leave the clergy, take up with my father at the farm or something." He closes his eyes and waits for the spell.

Ok so you want to be a bit less prey and more able to defend yourself. All right then, let's turn you into a falcon and you may find your way to your family's home. Now please do not fight the spell or try to resist the change or it may not work. And please be near the ground at the 12 hour point so you dont fall to your death. This is not like a fly spell where you float down. here you become a human with everything you own on you however high you are in the air and you fall.

Waiting to get a nod or other sign of understanding from the Ga'alian, Ingrge casts his spell.

Polymorph Other Object: Will DC 27 (not necessary if spell is accepted by target) Human to Falcon, Duration: 12 hours.

After the spell's completion and the falcon's departure Ingrge looks after it and shakes his head.

Pulling himself out from under Delilah's massive paws, Gunther chuckles as the large cat begins to groom him, covering him in saliva. Then he notices that the priest of Ga'al is still around. Flushing the warrior slicks back his gooey hair. "Did I miss someting?" he mumbles to K'nara.

"I'll get it." The red head loosens a sleeve and does the 'mother thing' to remove the slobber. "There, got it."

"Now..." she watches the cleric for a second. "When he leaves, I suggest that we leg it to this steep trail he referred to. He pointed that way." She points. "Besides, I don't think we'll have too much trouble finding it if it has been used by giants."

Gone! (Dm Jay)
Thursday November 13th, 2008 10:58:13 AM

The cleric of Ga'al shrinks, sprouting feathers and a beak and soon resembles an falcon. It shreeks and is gone in a flutter of feathers.

And the Emeralds are soon off in the direction that the cleric indicated. Indeed the trail is easy to find and it is steep, narrow and looks as if it is sloped out away from the wall of the cliff. (Think rocky narrow switch back) How it was ever used by giants, its hard to say. Its a scant four feet wide and even falls away in places. (An one time Balance check of DC20 is required, if you fail, roll a reflex DC20 to avoid falling) Roots and loose rocks litter the path. Clacking of loose rocks is heard far above, sliding of stone on stone. Rumbles of movement some way toward the top.

However, with the talents and skills of the Emeralds, the trail may not need to be taken all.

When Ingrge mentions flying, the warrior shrugs. "I used my armor last night. Guess I'll have to take it by foot....it doesn't look dat bad..." The warrior heads for the trail and promptly trips on a root (Balance=19). Swearing loudly, the warrior reaches out to stabilize himself on a nearby rock, only to find it clutched in his hands (Ref.=nat. 1). Hmm, Yes, well, I don't seem to have memorized that spell today, however I can cast a similar eye though it will take a bit longer, about 10 minutes, and take more overt concentration on my part after casting, but it should do the trick."

Casting Arcane Eye -

That said he begins his preparations quickly rifling through his pouches and removing a small tuft of fur, some white dust and a small cleer crystal lens. Spinkling the dust on the crystal and laying the crystal on top of the wad of fluff, Ingrge begins a fairly long incantation. As it progresses the crysstal and fluff seem to grow larger and roughly into the shap of a small transparent bat which by the end of the ten minutes is nearly the sixe of Ingrge's fist when at that point the whole thing vanishes completely.

"With a look of concentration on his face, Ingrge looks up. That should do it. Now I am going to need a bit of guidance during this hike, as I will not be able to focus on my surroundings overly much as I will need to keep focus on my seeing eye."
