"Not sure what we'd use to cut the silver cords, Wynn. Hey! Do you think that might be what's making them deaders in the first place? Maybe if we cut them silver guys away, the deaders will come back to normal?"
"Hey, Darples, are you infected? Sure would go a long way to finding out how to beat this thing if we saw a silver cord starting up on you or sump'in."
"And remember now, them Red Maskies didn't have silver cords. They looked like magicker types to me. Always reading up on stuff, like Theo does."
After exploring her little theory on the deader disease, Xenia takes up scouting position. Her eyes and ears are peeled. The group is depending on her to keep them from trouble.

Tight quarters, undead that do nasty things and now having to take the rear after so many years taking the lead... going to take some getting used to. He just hopes he can prove himself.
[OOC: As a logistical point, could Brahmah move more easily by walking on the the wall, would it make moving less confined? Is the tunnel taller than it is wide? I suppose in either case, its still going to be a tight one... nevermind.
OOC: Brahmah may have left Heyoo back at the place where he met the Crimsons, unless thats bad.

He hardly notice what the others are doing, simply tagging along lost in his own thoughts.
(ooc: having a bit hard time keeping up with everything - I am somewhat paralysed since I can not post from work due to all posts get tripled. Anyway will keep my self updated every evening - bare with me I am trying to find a way to handle the daily routines and get Wold into that routines :P)

OOC (DM Cayzle) Thursday October 23rd, 2008 7:47:21 PM
Morgan, feel free to post from work; Al or I will delete the extra posts, no problem.
Let me clarify: The party is on the secret lowermost level of a magic floating city. This level has all the magic and machines that keep the city afloat. Somehow, death cultists have invaded this level and taken over most of it. The cultists are spreading a disease that turns victims into undead. The party has entered the part of the level controlled by the cultists, and are headed for what might be the heart of the problem, the main control room. This part of the level seems to consist mostly of narrow accessways and small rooms.
With Xenia up ahead, two secret doors open, and undead spill out! So far, you see only two undead opponents, but surely others are coming up behind them.
Xenia hears the scrape of the secret doors opening, and she has an immediate sense -- as much through her link with Wynn as through her own senses -- that there is something going on behind her.
Brahmah senses a door opening behind him. Harley, Morgan, Wynn, and Syr are alerted too.
But Belkior and Florin are caught flat-footed and cannot act this round. Darples is taken completely unaware as well.
Now, you know that these creatures are fast -- so they will act before you. What do you plan to do?
The squares marked as Machinery consist of moving pistons, rotating gears and axles, and other supports. You can move through such squares at double cost and you must make an escape artist check vs DC20 to avoid 3d6 damage in so doing. The DC is 24 for large creatures; 16 for small ones. You cannot end your move in Machinery unless you are Tiny or smaller.
Brahmah, it is your choice to have your bear with you or not. As you prefer, but please decide now.
Brahmah, please note that you are under the effect of the squeezing rules: Squeezing: In some cases, you may have to squeeze into or through an area that isn't as wide as the space you take up. You can squeeze through or into a space that is at least half as wide as your normal space. Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares, and while squeezed in a narrow space you take a --4 penalty on attack rolls and a --4 penalty to AC. When a Large creature (which normally takes up four squares) squeezes into a space that's one square wide, the creature's miniature figure occupies two squares, centered on the line between the two squares. A creature can squeeze past an opponent while moving but it can't end its movement in an occupied square.
Morgan and Brahmah, look for e-mail about PC sheet details tonight or early tomorrow.
Belkior - (AC 24 (26 vs. evil); HP 91) - Magic Circle vs. Evil, Purifying Aura Thursday October 23rd, 2008 11:49:44 PM
The halfling cleric realizes that he and his companions are about to enter into combat. Belkior's first instinct is to protect himself and his companions, so he invokes a Magic Circle against Evil.
OOC - Belkior will choose his spells later and make the rest of his combat post after some other people.

Um, sorry Belkior ... you and Florin are flat-footed and surprised. No actions for you this round.
Morgan Kingsley (AC = 18, Hps = 86/86) Friday October 24th, 2008 6:13:39 AM

Quickly realising there is no way Morgan can get passed the Minotaur, he decides that the way ahead is the only option. Screaming out loud "Move people, move! The living corpses are behind us, we got to get out of here". Trying to keep in control Morgan start to push forward by putting pressure on Syr.
Brahmah shimmies to turn around to see what is behind him. Syr, trying to squeeze past might have a hard time, considering that Brahmah is taking up a good portion of the passage. He turns to defend the rear otherwise. (OOC: To Syr By the sounds of it, Brahmah can't even defend himself much less turn safely, hence the penalty to AC. If allowed by Cayzle, Brahmah will let you by, presumably because you know how to handle these type of undead creatures.)
*grunt, groan, grimace* "Damn horns!"
"Are these the ones that drain you of life and make you like them?!" He attempts to draw blades. "Can anyone cast protection from evil on me, please?"
OOC (DM Cayzle) Friday October 24th, 2008 7:14:14 AM
Note that per the rules, you can ALWAYS pass through a friend's space -- even a friendly minotaur's space -- so long as you end your move in an open square. Note that Brahmah is NOT defenseless -- he just takes a -4 on attacks and AC.

Yup. Things on the Wold proper (aka, the prime material plane) look shadowy (but not see-thru) to someone in the Realm of Shadows.
In the Realm, usually the only thing that looks really real are yourself, creatures you meet or travel with, and the Woldsblood. But in this case, the Ceiling and Floor are clearly really real in the Shadow Realm as well as in the Wold proper.
If you can make a trained Know (Planes) skill check vs DC20, I'll tell you what lore might have to suggest for other examples of such as this.

Swift as this realization comes, though ... it comes too late.

OOC: Friends, normally you would act, and then the enely would act, and we would go back and forth like that every round. These undead have the special abilities of 1) Always Going First, 2) Can Charge Over Obstacles, and 3) Can Make A Full Attack At The End Of A Charge.
==========
The Enemy Goes First!
At first, you might think these foes are zombies, but they are QUICK! They charge stooped over, hopping around corners and obstacles easily. They wear rags and bits of robes. Their grey skin is laced with thick knotted black veins. Their red eyes glow with purpose and direction. Unlike the ones you encountered before these are not so crazed, sizing you up as they approach. Then they pounce!
One charges Florin, who is taken flat-footed and so does not benefit from his Dex bonus to AC. The attacks on Florin hit AC32, AC31, and AC30! Does his cloak of displacement save him? No, no attacks are avoided. Florin takes 7, 7, and 14, for a total of 28 hp damage.
Another charges Brahmah. Seeing as Brahmah was not surprised, he retains both his Dex bonus to AC and his ability to make attacks of opportunity, which he can put to good use right now, thanks to his natural 10-foot reach.
Brahmah, your AoO will be vs AC18.
Assuming the creature survives the minotaur's AoO, it them attacks Brahmah, hitting AC20, AC16, and AC16 (a nat one). This one must have sent all his luck over to the one that hit Florin! Brahmah emerges unscathed from his first taste of Crimson Shields combat!
Two other undead move up behind these, ready to fight as soon as possible.
And as it turns out, two more head off to try to circle around. Xenis will find those in a moment.
==========
Our Heros Fight Back!
Belkior is surprised, and immediately decides to cast a spell as soon as he gets a chance.
Florin, too, is taken unaware. And he is wounded! Fortunately, his divine resistance to disease saves him from infection.
Darples heads north away from the fray, very concerned about avoiding danger.
Fighting down panic, Morgan indicates that he wants to move forward.
(OOC: You actually have not taken any actions at all. Remember, you CAN move through the space occupied by a friend. It's a five-foot wide corridor, so you can get by. If you do move, tell me the number and letter of the square to which you want to move. The scale is five feet per square.)
Syr orders his friends to move to block the doors, but the undead are too fast for that, and they are already on you!
Syr wants to move to P4, just east of Florin, but doing so will provoke an Attack of Opportunity from undead U1, unless the monk is tumbling. Does Syr keep moving to P4? and if so, how? Will he risk the AoO?
Wynn inspires courage in his friends (I think Xenia is out of range?).
Xenia heads back, taking time to activate her ring of Blinking. When she gets to square AD8, she sees two undead right in front of her. Does she continue on her original route -- right at them? Or does she choose to use her remaining three squares of movement going somewhere else?
[OOC: DM Note -- Harley and Morgan have not yet acted yet. You guys want to do something? The current map shows no movement for those two and partial movement for Syr and Xenia. And I need an AoO from Brahmah vs AC18.]

OOC Answers (DM Cayzle) Saturday October 25th, 2008 11:51:27 AM
Yup, attacking around a corner, like Syr might, definitely gives cover. Just like Al said.
And yes, Xenia does see the cords. They are actually dark grey. She only sees them when she blinks into the Realm of Shadows. They lead off toward the east, toward the control room.
Xenia (AC24, 68/68HP) Saturday October 25th, 2008 1:41:54 PM
OoC: As Xenia's position, as I defined it last turn was not possible, could I designate an alternate position for her to finish out her move? If so, I would like her to continue north long the corridor after spotting the two approaching undead and end her move, hidden, at AD5.
Is this alright?

Harley casts a magic circle and takes a step towards Brahmah so as to ward the minotaur fully.
Xenia passes by the undead and heads north, then hiding. (I'm using the Hide 34 roll from your last full post.)
Syr chooses not to squeeze directly between the undead and Florin. He does not open himself up to an AoO. From where he is, he can duck around the corner to fight it, but it has cover from him, and he from it -- that's a +4 AC bonus.
Morgan backs up and away.
Okay, I think that really brings us to the end of Round One! And the final map!
"More deaders coming around from the East, Wynn!" Cloaked in shadows, the rogue slips by and becomes a still dark shape just beyond the turn where the infected undead must pass in order to come around in front of the Shields.
"I saw two of 'em. I'm gonna see if anything will cut the silver cord thingies. Gonna try a weapon first. My chain oughta slash it good. If it can be slashed."
Absolutely still, she waits for the deaders to pass. Nerves. This will take nerves. They'll come right up close. Hit and then run. Blink through the wall. Maybe, if you're lucky, they'll follow you. Maybe they'll spend some time wondering where you went. Maybe that will buy the Shields some time. Time to heal. Time to power up.

Oh... You're the girl that I adore, And still I live in hope to see the Holy Ground once more.
[OOC] Since Xenia is in constant communication with Wynn, would his bardic song not still inspire her, regardless of the distance?
U1 attacks Florin: Only one hit would have hit, but the displacement stops even that attack.
U2 attacks Brahmah: The monitaur has a base AC25, boosted to 27 by the magic circle, then reduced to 23 by the tight quarters. The undead hits AC 22, 24, and 26; that means two claws hit for 16, and Brahmah has to make two Fort saves vs DC18 to avoid infection.
U3 and U4 back off 20 feet.
U5 and U6 round the corner and run right by Xenia. They take double moves -- and now the party can see them running up.
The Party Attacks!
The undead are AC20 -- or AC18 if they just charged.
Florin strikes hard, inflicting 30 damage. (more with inspiration? Moot this round anyway, but please remember to add it in!)
Xenia waits for the undead to pass, then attacks a cord. Her hit lands true (AC 20 to hit), but the cord's hardness stops all damage. (Hardness 10 unless you have admantine weapons). She sees that it is grey shot through with black, and knotted and kinky.
[OOC: The DM had to take some liberties with Xenia's movement given the way the undead moved. Let me know if you want to change your position.]
Syr kills the one Florin injured with a single attack, then moves south to engage the next one. That's all he can do this round.
Due to squeezing, Brahmah's AoO misses. But three blows land, inflicting a total of 31 plus six points of extra damage inspired by the bard. 37 total.
Wynn continue his inspiring song about longing to see a girl.
[OOC to Wynn: Xenia cannot be inspired across the mental link. She can, however, be inspired if she can hear the bard. And given her current position, she can. So Xenia can be inspired too. On the flip side, any creatures within 200 feet can hear Wynn on a Listen DC 10 skill check.]

Friends, recall that the monsters move and act BEFORE you. For example, to give it away a little, the undead nearest Xenia will turn and charge her before she can ready an action. Note that you've been fighting these things for a while, and you know that they are very quick, acting before you do!

(Saves 25 and 28...What bonuses does the circle give? Inspiration? etc? I didn't even realize Brahmah had been cast on. :) Or is he just in the area of effect?)
The smell of his own blood practically invigorates the ranger. "Is that all you got, come on!" (Hit AC 15(nat 1), 33, 13, 20, 14 and 9 for damage, kukri hit twice, for 6 and 11 damage... too bad no crits :()
Wynn [AC=26; HP=75/75]Inspire Courage +2, Blinking d20+14=18 ; d100=16 ; Tuesday October 28th, 2008 8:34:45 PM
The bard continues singing to inspire his fellow adventurers. He slides past the diminuitive cleric and down the corridor behind Syr, stopping just past the corner where he will await the two undead being pursued by Xenia. As he blinks in and out of the ethereal plane, Any chord that passes within reach will be the target of his attention. However, distracted as he is with everyone's safety, he misses any chord that is there [Hit AC18, miss chance = 16 (fail)]
Oh now the storm is raging and we are far from shore; The poor old ship she's sinking fast and the riggings they are tore. The night is dark and dreary, we can scarcely see the moon, But still I live in hope to see the Holy Ground once more.

The halfling cleric shakes himself out of his reverie and acts to protect his companions. Belkior steps 5 feet closer to Florin and casts a healing spell on the paladin.
Unless, of course, the paladin is already bleeding out on the floor. In that event, Belkior will not move and cast a healing spell to cover as many of his companions and the undead as possible.

OOC: Yes, anyone who is blinking or who can see into the Realm of Shadows ("Ethereal Plane") can see the grey cords leading from the undead towards the east. But note that any blinking attacker still has a 20% miss chance attacking those cords. Also, these undead are immune to crits, presicion damage, and sneak attack damage.
The Undead Go First!
U4 (unwounded) hangs back
U2 (-37) attacks Brahmah. The minotaur's AC is 23 with squeezing and magic circle. All three attacks miss! OOC: Brahmah, did you make your two saves vs infection? See prior DM post.
U3 (unwounded) attacks Syr, whose AC is 35. The undead need natural 20s to hit him. This one manages two 20s and a natural 1! LOL! none of the crits are confirmed! Syr takes 18 hp total. OOC: Syr, can I please have a link in your post header to your PC sheet?
U5 (unwounded) charges Florin, who is AC25 vs undead. A bite hits AC32 for 18 and a claw rips the undead hunter for 8 more damage. BUT what about that miss chance? That bite is a miss! Damage is really just 8 hp for the round!
U6 (unwounded) charges Xenia. Her AC is 24 and she has a 50% miss chance. The first hit is a bite vs AC34 ... but Xenia blinks out of its way. One claw also would connect ,,, but that too swipes only open air. The rogue shadowdancer is unscathed.
The Party Takes A Turn!
Xenia takes a five foot step back, fading into the shadows. She stows her weapon and takes out a scroll.
Florin hits U5 for 20; it is now down 20.
Brahmah hits U2 for 17, killing it!
Wynn keeps up is inspiring song.
Harley stays close to Brahmah and waits for a chance to act.
Belkior heals Florin, repairing 31 points of damage. The cleric ponders the idea of Shadow Cords. He has heard of the "astral" mode of travel, in which one sends out one's spirit to appear on other planes, and in through which the body remains joined to the psyche. Certainly, these undead cords suggest control or connection.
It takes Syr only three quick blows to utterly destroy the undead before him.
Morgan and Darples stay watchful.
At the end of round 3, there are only three undead still standing, and the one next to Florin is very injured.
Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen of Domi (AC 25, Hps 110/126) d20+18=38 d20+18=19 2d4(1+1)+7=9 2d4(4+1)+7=12 Thursday October 30th, 2008 2:51:04 PM
(Saves were made back on Tuesday. Passed both.)
Brahmah will READY for U4's charge and then he will attack it once it is within 10ft. "Come on you festering mass of road apples, do your worst." The taunt is sent toward the undead with venom.
Cayzle: Brahmah, go ahead and roll both your readied attack and your AoO vs AC18, please.
Jay: Okay. :) AC 38 and 19, plus Inspiration, for 9 and 12 damage, plus Inspiration if any.

Wynn continues his song and from his vantage around the corner, tries once again to slash at the cord being dragged by U5. [OOC please note that Wynn had moved last round to this same position O5, my bad for not listing the position]
The blinking bard strikes at the chord from around the corner with his adamantine sword, striking it squarely [Miss chance = 98 (pass), Hit AC=32 (threat with keen longsword), confirm with hit vs AC 17 (note the opponent gets no dex bonus when I'm blinking) for 8+12 HP damage (adamantine, not sure if chord is susceptible to criticals).]
Enthused by his success the bard strikes again [Hit AC=29/27 confirmed critical for 11+11 HP, Miss chance =24, pass]

The Undead Go First
U6: Xenia fades into shadows before the undead's eyes. It dashes off past the rogue to the east. Xenia may take an AoO against it as it passes.
U5: It attacks Florin. Both claws hit (AC27 and 29) for 18 hp damage. BUT WAIT! What about that miss chance? Nope, both still hit.
U4: It charges Brahmah. Brahmah gains an AoO. However, the DM made a mistake, sorry -- Bramah had no time to ready an attack before the monster strikes. So the AoO hits for 9+2=11 damage. Then it attacks him (Brahmah's AC squeezed in the magic circle is a 23): A bite vs AC26 for 11, the minimum; and two claws vs AC28 and AC33 (a possible crit that does not confirm) for another 14 damage. That's 25 damage to Brahmah this round.
NOW Brahmah may make a full attack. Please roll that asap.
The Heroes Take A Turn
Xenia moves up next to Syr.
Florin hits once for 20 - ALMOST killing it, but not quite!
Wynn strikes at and severs the cord for U5! It stands, stunned!
Belkior heals Florin again.
Syr does not act.

OOC: Of the three remaining, one has left the scene, one has taken 11 plus a full attack from Brahmah and may be dead, and the third is at one hp and is stunned for at least a round; I'm counting that last one as dead too.
His full attack. (hits AC 21, 22, 27, 29, 24 and 22, for 13, 11, 12, 6, 14, and 11 damage, plus Inspiration and any other bonuses Brahmah might be in range of :))
All dead (Round four and END) (DM Cayzle) Saturday November 1st, 2008 8:15:56 PM

The narrow corridors are quiet again, except for the hum of the machinery.

"Don't start swinging, Syr." As the meaty thuds and thunks of steel against flesh cease with the final killing blow, the rogue whispers to her teammate from out of the protection of the shadows. "It's me, Xenia. I'm behind you."
"Well, lets see what we have here." Dropping out of shadow, the dark rogue examines the frame of the door, the seam of it, the way it opens and the way it shuts. Then she stalks into the room to see just what sort of place it would hold ambush zombies.
"I think they're learning your machinery much faster than you think, Darples," Xenia calls out to the Undercrat. "Somehow they managed to build themselves a room that I didn't spot. That, or I'm slipping so badly as a scout that I should just give it up and go into ... I dunno ... hair dressing or turtle raising or sump'in."
Shaking her head, she comes out the other door, the one she must have walked right past with out listening for occupants. "So, Darples, how much further to this Central Control Room, huh?" Xenia eyes the scroll of Barkskin still in her hand, the magic as of yet uncast.

He pauses a moment to heal some of his wounds with a brief prayer to Domi (Cure Light Wounds thrice if time permits).
Jumping slightly as Xenia's voice sounds beside him. "Turtle raising? you? Maybe take 'watching paint dry' as a second job?" The elf scoffs at Xenia, "You thrive on the action too much. Don't sweat it, it all turned out for the best except for a few scratches. Why don't we take a look around and see if they left any clues which can help us?"

"Perhaps this was only a scouting party or maybe watchers. In which case, that one that ran away may soon be returning with reinforcements. Xenia, any idea if we can find a more defensible spot where we can support one another if they attack, instead of getting worn down and picked off one by one in the narrow tunnels?"

Florin looks to the others as he watches to see who might of been infected and who hasn't. While waiting he slowly cleans the blade of his bastardsword off but only once he turns the shocking abitlity off.
Looking towards Belkior he speaks to him, "Anyone infected that knows anyway?" Thinks Florin sighs abit to himself as he wishes his powers were stronger then this but speaks once more, "I have the ability to lift a disease once but it will take me a good time period to regain the ability again. If possible we need to keep the exposure to injuries from these undead things to as little as we can."
Florin looks back to Belkior, "If I'm right and out powers can remove the disease too then can you pray for the spell once this is over if needed also? Would atleast ease the minds of everyone I think to know they have less to worry about."
Florin other then this is ready to continue moveing, he is still wondering about this disease, if it was some type of heart seed product then how was it being spread through bites? maybe a victim to far gone has spores or such that are passed with a bite, the seeds looks like a plant so it had to be something like that surely.
To the Control Chamber! (DM Cayzle) Tuesday November 4th, 2008 3:58:00 PM
After all the undead are defeated, Darples urges the party to go forward. "When we fought these beasts, we learned that what one knows, the rest soon know too!"
Xenia takes a moment to look at the room from which the undead sprang. She finds it full of arcane humming machinery, and she is careful to walk around it, not through. Darples looks in on her and fairly shouts, "Don't touch anything!" But he refuses to say why, citing "secrets."
He says that it is no more than 20 minutes brisk walk to the Control Chamber, although there will surely be traps to avoid along the way that could slow you down, if they do not kill you.
Harley confirms that Brahmah is not infected. Seems the minotaur is as hardy as he is big.
Wynn explains about the cord and tells how severing it stunned the undead.
Syr resists disease as well and pauses for curing.
Belkior worries about ambushes. Darples concedes that that is a possibility. He suspects, though that the next attack will be with the enemy's full force.
Florin wonders how he disease is spread, but he has not closely examined the corpses of the slain.
Xenia (AC24/AC25 vs U6 from Dodge, 68/68HP) Tuesday November 4th, 2008 9:24:56 PM
"Hokay, so whatcher sayin' is that every freak deader in the Under City now knows that we're in this 'xact place. Right Darples? And your thinking they might be on their way here now, every last full force deader of them, right?"
"And you say they got traps and stuff between here and that Central Control Place of yours." The rogue turns toward the east as though eying the possibilities.
"What I'm thinking, guys, is whether or not it might be better to meet 'em right here in this place. They move fast and hit hard when they come atcha. But once they're in close, I think pound for pound we hit harder than they do, and we can take more hits than they can."
"What I'm sayin' is, if they can only come at us one at a time, it's our advantage, not theirs. We can fit Florin on one end with Belkie to heal him up. On the other end we can put Syr, he's the hardest one of us to hit. Behind him we can put Brahmah. Looks like Beef there can poke the deaders from right over the top of Syr's head. Wynn and me, we can pass through the walls and foozle 'em from the sides."
"Whatcha think? Let them come to us through the traps and stuff. That might help whittle down their numbers a bit. I'm just worried in case their magickers can throw a fireball or two. That would be bad."

I mean, who knows how many of these things they have to come at us with? Granted, because of the undercity's protections, we aren't fighting anyone but turned Undercrats in this area and not the rest of the Trash level zombies. Darples, what's the staffing down here? I mean what's the worst case scenario that we have to face? If it's too many then we can advance by leap frogging to areas that you scout out Xenia. Once you give the all clear, we rush forward to the best area of your choosing and establish our defensive stance there.

Xenia suggests digging in and letting the enemy come to the party.
Brahmah agrees. So does Harley.
Florin seems agreeable too, and asks about flasks of oil to throw.
Then Florin takes a look at one of the undead. He notes that the corpse's veins are actually filled with a growth, a tendril, a vine. On investigation, there is a plant-like network of roots and vines that thread the circulatory system of what was once a person. If anyone takes a deeper look, they will find that the rootlets all end up at the corpse's heart, which is now dead and formed of bark and wood.
Syr has reservations about Xenia's plan: Does it get the party closer to its goal? Darples is silent, then points out that it is a good thing all of you will have yoru memories wiped when you return, because he is about to tell you a secret.
The Undercity supports a population of only about 100 undercrats and another 100 support staff. Only about ten of the support staff were lost to the contagion and escaped into the enemy's area. But near on half of the undercrats themselves were lost to the enemy. Another dozen were lost but killed when their symptoms got worse, like the Underlord. About 50 staff and another dozen undercrats were killed in battles with the enemy.
So there are only about two dozen undercrats left, and maybe 40 staff. Darples things that there were originally 60 undead, but with the five you just killed and another dozen killed in the fighting, that's likely down to 40 or a little more.
So the worst you should expect is 40 or so undead to fight you here. But there are an unknown number of cultists too. Darples does not know how many, but they commanded from the rear in the battles before the living undercrats got the seals closed.
So you are facing 40 undead and some number of cultists ... less any that fall into traps on the way to you.
It seems like the party is set to take a stand here. If so, do you want to stay in this exact spot, or in a nearby area? Frankly, this is a warren of five-foot wide corridors, mixed with small chambers and machinery. If you describe what you are looking for, I can let you know what you find that comes closest.

"Be nice to find some piece of hall that's shaped like a snake when it's slithering. You know, like this." And the rogue describes a squiggly shape in the air with her finger.
"You know any place like that, Darples? That way, the bends in the hall keep the magickers from throwin' stuff at us. Catching us in fireballs and the like."

Florin looks around and sighs some as he thinks. Rideing on horse back would probably be rather hard if Brahmah can't stand at his complet height but Florin goes ahead and gauges the height of the ceiling the height he would be at if he was sitting on Ajax's back.
Florin ponders just summoning his horse since it would be a extra battle compaion in the up comeing battle, the only bad thing would be the poor horse's armor isn't quite as good as he would like it for this battle.

A spot to call your own (DM Cayzle) Tuesday November 11th, 2008 7:53:13 AM
The party decides to find a place to make a stand. Xenia wants a place with restricted sight lines. Florin wants to be able to ride his holy mount. Brahmah wants to be able to actually stand up.
Syr thanks Darples, who grins grimly. "I'll just stand out of the way," he says.
[OOC: Friends, Morgan has told me that he does not have the time to play. I don't want to break the story, but he won't be here for the fight.]
Darples leads the party to a section of the Undercity that may have what you are looking for. He notes that part of this may be unknown to the enemy -- the portion in green on the map. Note that green walls cannot be blinked through. Here is a large scale map ... pick the place you want to make your stand.
Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen of Domi (AC 25, Hps 103/126) Tuesday November 11th, 2008 11:16:59 AM
"Syr, I may be a minotaur, but I know your referring to me as a marshmallow." He snorts. "I'm more than a marshmallow and far from soft." He smiles. "But if I'm turned to undead, you'll be the first to find out." He snickers. "That is, of course, if Belkior doesn't turn me to dust first!" He roars with laughter.
(OOC: Morgan, I hope to see you again!)
Xenia (AC24, 68/68HP) Tuesday November 11th, 2008 1:27:19 PM
"Not the absolute best, but I think this will do," the rogue remarks. "Now we wait."
OoC: I like the following areas.
R-T/10-14 There's a large space for Brahmah to stand without restrictions. There are two entrances and a possible 3rd that may be lockable. We can hold the two entrances with Syr and Florin. I choose Syr because he has the highest AC and is least likely to be hit, and Florin because he's immune to disease. Brahmah, with his reach, can attack over the heads of either of them. There also looks like room for Harley and Belkior to move about and heal Syr and Florin. The walls are passable from many different directions for Xenia and Wynn to blink through should we require.
F-L/21-22 This area has many of the advantages of the first area. K Row to the north allows a straight shot for ranged spells into us, though.
All other areas seem to allow either too many access points to us, not enough room for us to move, or unacceptable lines of range attack into our area.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any area on the map that's proof against the dropping of an area attack. Sort of a shame, but something we'll have to live with.
It will be interesting to find out whether the walls that block blinking also block the cords that connect the undead to whatever it is in the Control Room, whether having their cords cut in this way will stun them as well.
Anyway, what do you think?

"That oughta do it. Should make it difficult for them to get the door open if they know about it. If we need to escape through here, just grab and pull it out."

He in turn casts his own blade barrier spell. He casts it right on top of the cleric and the 2 undead creatures next to him. Harley then casts the spell quickened shield of faith.

The halfling cleric stands still, absolutely still, as the spell cast by the opposing cleric appears. The magical blades slice into Belkior and blood flows. Reflex = 9, natural 1
Belkior then casts a Dispel Magic spell upon the Blade Barrier, removing that danger. After doing so, Belkior moves slightly. As he does so, he removes his Wand of Dispel Magic from his belt. Caster level check = 29, dispels Blade Barrier

Florin grits his teeth as the teeth of the undead bite into his upper thigh. There's a brief flurry of sound and vision over the paladin's shoulder as the wall of whirling blades comes and goes.
Then Florin does some biting of his own. Sinews powered by the strength of a bull, the paladin brings his crackling Mithral blade down upon the flesh of the disease cursed undead.

Xenia activates her flying boots, takes a five foot step up, and gets out a tanglefoot bag.
Harley suffers the brunt of the blade attack and steps back (under Xenia). He casts a Blade Barrier of his own and then follows with a quick defensive magic.
[DM OOC to Harley: I have positioned your blade barrier to force all three of the enemy to make saves. As set now, it forces medium size creatures to squeeze past the blades, and large sized creatures would need an escape artist check to squeeze past safely. If you would prefer some other placement, let me know. I am also assuming that you cannot place it out of line of sight. Let me know if you disagree or want other positioning.]
The force blades also take deep bites out of Belkior. He responds by dispelling the magic!
Syr avoids the blades and attacks, destroying an undead.
Florin hits the undead before him for 26 damage.
Wynn blinks into the Realm of Shadows, and through the secret door at F10. He sees that there are undead filling the corridor (shown on the map). There is no place for him to blink. However, he CAN strike at a grey cord that he can see on the other-Woldly plane. The DM assumes that he does so -- it is AC20 and Hardness 10. The bard hits, but with only 8 points of damage, none gets past the cord's hardness.
==========
The Enemy
First, Harley's Blade Barrier. The cleric has Spell Resistance 24, because he has cast a Spell Resistance spell on himself. So Harley has to first roll a d20 plus his caster level and beat a 24 to see if the spell will affect the cleric.
But to speed things along, I'll roll a die and see if the cleric saves, making this point moot ... Reflex save is an 18. The required save was a 23 (thanks for posting that, Harley!), so the cleric will take damage unless his spell reistance saves him. I'll leave that to Harley to roll!
The undead flanking him get saves too: both fail, losing 36 hp damage each.
Next those two wounded undead move off to the north, wile unwounded ones come up to replace them. The new ones squeeze in between the blades and the wall. Another undead (U9) charges up to attack Syr. Three attacks miss.
The wounded one fighting Florin withdraws, opening up a space for a fresh undead to appear. It does, charging the undead hunter. All three of its attacks miss.
The cleric, from behind the cover of the machine, casts Flame Strike. It centers on Brahmah, so the following PCs must make saves: Darples, Brahmah, Wynn, Syr, Xenia, and Harley. The Reflex Save DC is a 20. The spell inflicts 52 or 26 hp damage (half fire, half evil).
You can just barely see another robed figure edge up next to the cleric. What he casts will depend on the Spell Resistance roll.
By the way, the undead are AC18 if they are charging, AC20 otherwise.
Casualties inflicted:
three undead wounded by half to three-quarters. one undead destroyed.

The wild flailing of the manic undead thump off the paladin's shield as he deflects the blow. Shield and sword work themselves into a rhythm.

The Wold blossoms in the same color as the rogue's bright red hair. She twists in mid-air, turning her cloak about herself. When the conflagration dies away, Xenia hangs in the air, unscathed.
Not so lucky, their guide.
"Poor Darples, Wynn. He was kind of a quiet little wierdo, but he risked his life to bring us this far." The rest of the thought remains unsaid. The Undercrat had run the risk and lost the bet, paying, finally, with his life.
"'Kay, one Magicker, stuck to the floor." Xenia's voice comes from out of the air above Harley's head. She appears from shadow just as a Tanglefoot bag leaves her hand and smacks into the red hooded man behind the chunk of machinery. It explodes against him with a splat, and the rogue enters shadow again as she flies across the room to hide again on the other side of the door.
