The Journey West

DM Kathy
Sunday November 16th, 2008 9:23:43 PM

As Selemar and Garrett get better acquainted, Rollo arrives with his latest acquisition, a riding dog named Cornelius Burpaw the Fourth.

Zeph and Kiel express their readiness to depart; Axara only needs to make one last purchase: a tent.

The next morning, you are on your way. It is a beautiful spring day, with cool morning dew quickly giving way to sunny skies and chirping birds. Flowers bloom along the road, which has nearly dried from the earlier spring rains. All in all, it is a very pleasant journey.

You have only been traveling for a few hours when you see the wounded man. He is propped up against a tree, and appears to have several wounds. Some have been bandaged; others seem to have been treated with some kind of salve.

As you get closer, Kiel recognizes the man. It is Feyjarl, probably the only other person in Cinnamon Valley who weilds a two-bladed sword. Indeed, the sword lies close to hand as the wounded man eyes you warily.

Kiel [AC:18 - HP:34/34]
Sunday November 16th, 2008 10:11:44 PM

Riding up to the area he just saw movement, Kiel keeps his seat.

Crossing his left leg to settle over the saddle: You there, come out and be recognized. Don't make us come in there after you. You wont like the outcome.

When the man peers around the tree, and the recognition comes to mind, seeing the weapon he carries, Kiel continues to look at him with no expression.

So, Feyjarl, either you had a run in with your ex girlfriend's again or someone tried taking that pig sticker of yours.

Sliding off his friend, and walking towards Feyjarl, without a weapon, Kiel pipes up: So, what brings your sorry butt out this way?

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:17 .. HP:20/29]
Sunday November 16th, 2008 10:30:34 PM

Feyjarl smiles at Kiel, "She's not an ex-girlfriend, she's very much 'The One' Kiel. As for these would be assassins," he looks across at the corpses, "they followed the same roads all idiots do... And reached the same destination."

Feyjarl, got up, a little painfully, "As to what I'm doing here? Why I was clearing the way for you as usual, can't have you getting your armour and weapons all messy can we?" Feyjarl smiled, genuinely joking with Kiel.

"Wow, that horse still puts up with you eh?"

Zeph looks at Kiel and Feyjarl exchange words and takes in the view of the stranger. Then he looks around into the woods to make sure this is not a set up for an ambush.

Zeph notices the dark red and black cloak that Feyjarl wears and racks his brain for ideas as to what it could mean. (Knowledge Local = 13)

When Zeph sees the blood on the man's clothing, he says "Rollo, if Kiel says this kind sir is trustworthy, maybe you can use your talents to heal him?"

Axara [AC: 17 HP 24/24]
Monday November 17th, 2008 8:15:30 AM

Axara rides with the other, getting used to Miss Mare. The horse is not as responsive to her as Phoenix was but Axara does not try to impose her will on the animal.

When Kiel finds his friend wounded, Axara calls Zeph, Rollo and Hmark. "We all know what has happened to Sebastian. Now Selemar has a friend and Kiel has a friend. In other circumstances, it would be fine but it does bother a lot. Can these be trusted or are se setting us up for more heartbreak. What is your take on it?"

She stops looks at them and adds "If I ever present a newcomer as a former flame, be very worried. None of my ex boy-friend would want to hang with me now. "

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:19 HP:17/17]
Monday November 17th, 2008 8:34:28 AM

As the group heads out in the morning, Garret mounts his riding dog and joins the travel. As they travel, Garret guides his dog to the left and right of the road, looking at the various flowers and other plants growing along the road. Every now and then he smiles and laughs, often nodding towards Selemar.

At times, he passes by Rollo and smiles, nodding at his riding dog as well. One time he says, "Yours has a name, does it? Interesting."

When the group stops at Feyjarl, Garret waits until Kiel greets him. Clear that they know one another, Garret dismounts and looks around the area, examining the corpses from a short distance away and noting the wounds and the large weapon next to the large man.

Selemar (Adam Subbing)
Monday November 17th, 2008 12:11:23 PM

Selemar rides along feeling a bit more comfortable having someone who's proven.himself a trustworthy companion time after time.

If he had just not run into Garret, Kiel's suddenly coming upon his old friend,Feyjarl, might have seemed odd.

Hmark
Monday November 17th, 2008 1:58:43 PM

Hmark shrugs in response to Axara's concerns.
"Maybe we'll run into one of my friends next," he jests.

Sobering a bit, he adds
"We're heading off into the unknown where all kinds of nasty surprises are probably waiting. I'm all for putting as many folks with swords 'tween them and me as possible."

"So, I say heal the man and see if he wants to do some exploring."

"Yours has a name, does it? Interesting?"

Rollo looked confused."You never asked him what his name was? Seems kind of rude to climb on someone's back without asking his name first. You have much to learn about the ways of this world, but do not worry you shall pick them up in time. A good place to start would be to introduce yourself to your companion there, he has been most kind to carry you this far despite your rudeness."

Rollo signaled Cornelius to a halt as they came upon the blooded half-elf knee deep in corpses. He watched as the others exchanged pleasantries, apparently this man is a friend of Kiel. So, many reunions in such a short stretch of time.

The orders for healing start rolling in.

So the half-elf seems trustworthy?

Rollo hops down from his steed and walks over to the corpses and examines the gruesome way they were killed. Very trustworthy.

Rollo begins pushing all the contradictory statements and actions he has witnessed and is witnessing out of his mind.

Rollo heads over and pulls the new wand from Cornelius's saddle bag and aims it at the wounded warrior. With a flick of the wrist the wounds begin to heal. "All better.

Rollo hops back on Cornelius and continues down the path. "If your coming, saddle up."

Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesMundaneItems
Monday November 17th, 2008 8:44:28 PM

Zeph strolls over to Axara on his horse and listens to her concerns and Hmark's response.

Zeph thinks for a second about whether the man is trustworthy or not and then smiles at the irony of his own logic: "Well, the funny thing about Kiel is that he does not trust anyone quickly or without good reason. So, if Kiel says he is a good man, then I am inclined to believe him." Zeph whispers to Axara, Hmark, and Rollo in the huddle with a wink.

Then Zeph looks at Rollo, "How many charges are on that wand anyways?" He says.

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:18 .. HP:27/29]
Monday November 17th, 2008 9:21:50 PM

Feyjarl, notes the wary nature of many of the party and understands that reaction fully. He contemplates saying that he will do them no harm, but realises the futility of such a statement.

Overhearing some of the conversation, Feyjarl laughs a little at the woman's comments, "Madame, if that is the case, then it is lucky that I am not, nor will I ever be, an ex-boyfriend of yours."

To Rollo, "Thank you for your healing, Gnome, I appreciate it," noticing the Gnome's glances at the bodies and the look on his face he continues, "I see you object to their deaths or maybe the manner of it, I assure you that the fight was fully justified from my side but I will try and be more gentle next time." Feyjarl bows to Rollo.

To Hmark, "I am up for some adventure, especially if it's on a more even keel," he looks pointedly at Kiel and winks, "...than 3 on 1! I think i'll let the heat die down a little before I head back... Hopefully, she'lI have calmed down a little by then... Possibly."

Feyjarl gathers up his gear, making an adjustment to his arm greaves, he stopped and whistled. From out of the thick forest behnind him, a strong looking black horse walked out and stood next to Feyjarl. Patting his forelegs, Feyjarl pulled a spare shirt from his saddlebags and stripped off his chest armour and undershirt. Although trying to keep his chest to the party, there's no disguising the multitude of scars from both battles and whips, many of them very nasty looking and a few fresh. Although nothing close to the deep 3 foot long gouge that ran from his right shoulder down diagonally across his back to his left hip.

He caught a few people staring, and grimacing slightly at the wounds. "Hunting accident I'm told, a bear trap. I was young and collapsed after receiving it so I have no recollection of it."

SPOILER

Highlight to display spoiler: {If you check the second paragraph of Feyjarl's back story, you'll see that the scar has nothing whatsoever to do with a bear trap. But a mixture of Zhang's lessons (and enchantments) and the ointment he has to apply to various wounds to "help them heal" (which they don't at all) have him thinking that Zhang is telling the truth}

DM Kathy
Monday November 17th, 2008 10:21:34 PM

Kiel and the wounded man, Feyjarl, exchange greetings. It would seem the two know each other.

That established, the rest of the party relax somewhat. Rollo takes a moment to instruct Garret on the etiquette of riding dogs before stepping up to heal the injured man.

Selemar, Axara, and Hmark all variously remark on how odd it is to run across two old friends in so short a time, especially since their company is short precisely two members from the group that first left Dulcet's. But this kind of odd coincidence is much more common among adventurers than it is among common folk.

At your invitation, then, Feyjarl agrees to ride with you for a time. He calls his mount to him and soon you are underway once more.

The day continues very pleasant. You pass a few other travelers, mostly farmers with carts, going about their business. About noon, you link up with the main road to Rowena. It is quite busy, especially when contrasted with the lonely, muddy, half-frozen roads you encountered just a few weeks ago. Now you pass other groups frequently: more farmers with carts, peddlers with wagons, and a couple of caravans complete with laboring mules, swearing drivers, and impatient merchants complaining of every delay. At one point, you pass what are obviously novice adventurers, with basic gear, slogging along on foot. A copule of them glance enviously at you on your mounts, with your obviously high-quality armor and weapons.

That evening you stay at a rustic inn reminiscent of the Green Rooster. It is busy, filled with travelers and with a few locals here to enjoy a good meal at day's end. You have to wait a bit for a table, while the inn-wife apologizes profusely and the serving girls dash about trying to serve everyone at once.

The next day is much like the first. The weather is pleasant without being too warm, and there are many travelers on the road. Most are quite friendly, willing to stop and exchange news and pleasantries.

Rollo[AC:21 HP:37/37]
Monday November 17th, 2008 10:49:12 PM

Rollo doesn't even respond to Feyjarl's comment. It would take to long to explain to him what he was actually thinking and besides it didn't matter a weapon is a weapon is a weapon is an acorn.

The gnome rode, ate, slept, and rode along the next day.

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:18 .. HP:27/29]
Tuesday November 18th, 2008 12:13:58 AM

Feyjarl turns to Kiel at breakfast, "So....? Going to tell me what we're doing?"

He looked around at the party gathered around the table, "I'm Feyjarl, who are you all?"

Kiel [AC:18 - HP:34/34]
Tuesday November 18th, 2008 1:17:39 AM

Looking up, with a mouthful of eggs and bacon, at Feyjarl and tries answering him, only to spit out some of his breakfast.
Deciding its wiser, and tastes better to chew his mouthful, and swallow, and to rinse his mouth out with a long pull from his mug of cider. then tries answering his old friend.
Leaning in close, so as to not attract attention, he whispers:
North

Then leaning back, with a poop eating grin on his face, Kiel resumes eating his breakfast.

Once completed, he gathers his stuff and heads for the door, motioning Feyjarl to follow.
Making small talk with him as they walk out to the stables to ready their mounts, Kiel fills him in on what's transpired up til now, including him having to kill Sebastian, where they are going and why. Making sure that no eavesdroppers are near. Whispering when he has to.

Once all is said, and Phoenix is squared away, Kiel turns him loose in to the pasture to graze while he helps everyone else make sure their steeds' are squared away.

On the road, Kiel keeps his talking to a minimal, using his time of solice to ponder things past and present. Stopping from time to time to examine tracks and other signs of unnormalcies. And listening to the ramblings of others.

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:18 .. HP:27/29]

Feyjarl smiles at Kiel response, pretending to wipe some food off his face.

"North eh? Well why didn't you say so! Now THAT is one exciing destination!!!!"

Finishing his food and preparing for the journey he rotates around the unit as they travel, scanning the roadside, from back, front, middle... Even up and down. Clearly he's expecting trouble...

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:19 HP:17/17]
Tuesday November 18th, 2008 8:37:41 AM

As Garret travels along, he waves to nearly everyone that passes them. When someone speaks, he stops for a moment to converse with them, talking about the weather, where they have been, and where the other folks are coming from. When the group continues, he quickly makes his dog gallop so he can catch up. By the end of the day, he doesn't even look tired, he looks as if he's just gotten up and is ready for a new day.

He ponders Rollo talking to his dog, and when he thinks Rollo isn't looking, he leans forward over the neck of his dog and whispers, "Hi. I'm Garret." He waits for a response, but when doesn't come, he shrugs and goes back to greeting others on the road.

At breakfast, when Feyjarl introduces himself, Garret replies, "I am Garret Goodbarrel. It's nice to meet you, you seem like a nice fellow for someone so large." He smiles broadly.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 24/24]

She travels, eat, sleeps and travel again in silence.

Rollo[AC:21 HP:37/37]
Tuesday November 18th, 2008 11:38:04 AM

Rollo finishes his tiny suit of bone armor before retiring to sleep, not his best work, but someone will be proud of it.

In the morning the gnome savors his breakfast being sure to save a little. After the meal he ventures into the surrounding wilderness for his daily sabbatical, greeting the invisible denizens he know are relaxing in the flora. Finding a suitably enchanting spot he builds his small shrine in the usual fashion placing the leftover breakfast along with the suit of armor on the small island in the center of a pull of freshly conjured water. Rollo thanked Eberyon for his gifts, and for sending his old friend to him. The gnome questioned whether his king had sent the two new comers.

Rollo waited for a reply, knowing full well that one may not come, mysteries and riddles being treasured commodity in the fey realms.Fey.....Fey..jarl.

"You wouldn't make it that easy!' Rollo shouted to the forest, but it's only reply was a cool breeze.

Rollo took as an answer the fey kings way of saying "After all the stuff you've been through, you needed an easy one."

Rollo then re-emerged from the woods, feeling the blessings of Eberyon upon him, and rejoined the party as they made their way north.

"I'm Hmark," he says in a friendly manner. "I shoot stuff." The young human nods slightly at his red ash bow.

The introductions and various party commentary having been made, Hmark makes preparations to go. The young man doesn't really say much. He's not aloof or shy, always staying part of the group. He just doesn't seem to talk a whole lot.

Garret takes a quiet moment to introduce himself to his riding dog. Alas, he gets no reply. Unless you count "Wrruff!" as a reply.

Feyjarl asks where you are bound, and Kiel tells him "North," a lie that lasts only until the sun begins to set directly in front of you. [OOC: Please read the title of the current scene. :) ]

Axara, Selemar, and Hmark are largely silent as the group travels.

Zeph pulls Kiel aside for assurances that the newcomer can be trusted.

Toward the end of this, your second day of travel, you overtake a man and a girl of about 10, walking along the road. Both are dressed as peasants and carrying empty baskets. They step aside to let you pass, but the man calls out, "Excuse me, brave and noble adventurers! Might I ask a boon?"

If any of you stop, he continues, "It's just that my daughter has a blister on her foot, and we've still a long, weary way to go. Would one of you good folk be willing to take her up for a mile or two?"

Looking embarrassed, the girl whispers, "I'm fine, Dad." But the man shushes her, looking expectantly at you.

Wednesday November 19th, 2008 1:58:53 AM

[Kathy, had you noticed the rest of my post, I had a poop eating grin on my face when i said North. Feyjarl knew I was kidding because, as the rest of the post stated, I filled him in on everything...]

Stopping Phoenix, whistling to get everyones attention, pointing to his own eyes and then pointing to the surrounding area, Kiel slides off his horse. Removing his weapon from its holder, he purposefully walks up to the man and bluntly asks:
Why in blue blazes would a father ask a group of strangers to to take his own daughter away? Why would a father not put down his own basket and carry his own child rather than let her feet get the way they are? WHAT do you want from us?!?!

Kiel knows deep inside something is not right about this situation. That this man has something sinister in mind involving the adventurers and he's Not going to let it get the better of them.

Zeph looks around at the surrounding trees and area as Kiel instructs with his fingers.

Option A: IF Zeph does not see anything suspicious, he will take this course of action:
Ugh, Kiel. Did your mom abandon you when you were younger because you have some serious trust issues? Zeph thinks.
Zeph dismounts and walks next to Kiel who is brandishing his weapon at the two. "Excuse my friend, he has poor people skills. Where are you folk going anyways?" Zeph says, apologetically.
Then Zeph will turn to the group and ask the group "If you guys are ok with it, we can give the two a lift for a while? Either the man or the girl can ride with me on Shadow, I don't mind." Zeph says.

And all the while, Zeph will be making sure that no one tries to lift any of his stuff from him. (Second spot check)

I fear Kiel's mistrust is being put in front of what is best for the group. First he didn't want to give Dulcet teh Guided Way book, now this.

Option B: IF Zeph does see anything suspicious he will stay on his horse and pull out his bow and attempt to warn the group of what he sees.

She thinks to herself "So Kiel has no problem accepting an half injured man with 3 body next to him and tell him what we are up to but get all upset when someone ask for a ride. I agree that it is strange that the father would do that but he obviously does not know my father. He would have given me away to adventurers for some gold without a second thought. Wait, he did do that. Anyway, I am tired of the screaming but what can I do. I am not the leader and no one listen to me anyway."

She stays on the horse, waiting silently for the situation to evolve.

But you did tell Dulcet "Were not bringing anything here" when she asked you about the Guided way book, even Axara questioned your response. But that is neither here nor there.
I am just trying to play my character as a Neutral Good aligned character with logic would act, and that involves helping the needy in my opinion. And I know you are trying the whole "brooding dark hero" thing, but my character is a bit more friendly, and I guess that is where the conflict is.)

Kiel, apparently misunderstanding the man's intent, launches into a tirade.

Zeph sees nothing to cause immediate alarm, and offers to give the girl a lift. Rollo also offers assistance, and does a small curing spell on the girl.

Axara remains aloof; Garret, Hmark, and Feyjarl also keep their distance.

"We were just heading home," the man explains, helping his daughter up onto the proffered pony. "Had a good day at the market--didn't we pet?--sold all our cabbages," he waves his empty baskets to demonstrate. "But it's a bit of a walk home, and little Leezy got a blister."

"I'm not little, and I'm fine," the girl protests.

"Just ride for a bit, there's a good girl," her father says with a smile. He begins walking next to the group, eyeing Kiel askance. "A lift's all I was asking, good sir," he says mildly.

He smiles at the rest of the group. "Norv Galbert's the name, and this is m'daughter Leezy," he says. "Might I know your names, good folk? And, where are you headed, if I may be so bold?"

Garret answers Axara, "Screaming? Tension?" He looks around. "Oh, that big guy? I've know types like him before. They like to yell a lot, I have not yet figured out why. I have found, with others, in the past, that letting them yell but then presenting them with logic often helps. I have yet to find a way to get them to speak in a normal tone." He shrugs, "That's just the way they are, I suppose. Don't let it bother you, if you can."

Garret smiles and quickly moves his dog behind and up around the other side of the man and his daughter. He speaks to Galbert and says, "Well met Galbert. I am called Garret Goodbarrel. And as my friend Rollo pointed out, we're headed over there." He points in the same direction, then continues, "I'm afraid that I haven't been off in that direction before and I would like to see what's there. Do you know of what things we might find there? I do so like to explore new places."

Axara [AC: 17 HP 24/24]

Axara nods at the farmer "I am called Axara .... and I follow where our leader", pointing to Rollo, "is taking us. He is the best at hearing the siren call of adventure."

After that she pulls her robe hood over her head which will make her face invisible to every one else.

"Hmark," the archer calls/introduces himself from the back of the line. "Whereabouts you folks from, Mr. Galbert?"

Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesMundaneItems  d20+1=14 ;

Zeph smiles at Mr. Galbert and his daughter. "My name is Zeph, I lived in Jarlwolf for several years in my youth. I may have even seen you in the open-air market when I was younger. Like my companions said, we are heading for general adventure, the smiting of evil, and the saving of innocents and such." Zeph says with a wink in Rollo's direction.

Then, if the conversation turns stale and Zeph gets bored, he will take out Sebastian's flute that he saved and begin to attempt to play on it. (Perform =14)

I still wonder if we made the right decision. Zeph thinks, trying to rationalize morality.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 24/24]  d20+4=20 ;

Out of nowhere Axara barks "Zeph, can you stop this? Her tone is rude and angry. Then she mellows "Sorry zpeh but I do not want to hear musci right now, especially NOT from that flute. sing if you want some noise but DON'T play that instrument."

Then she starts singing a popular lover song ending tragically. (perform: 1d20+4 = 20)

"was it right to not turn Kiel in after he took down the traitor? Are we better than the people we are trying to prevent from puttingtheir hand on the book?"

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:19 HP:17/17]
Thursday November 20th, 2008 3:11:31 PM

The flute sounds nice, but when Axara interrupts, Garret looks surprised. He looks closely at Axara, as if trying to figure her out. When she starts singing, Garret again smiles and listens, despite the message in the music.

Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesMundaneItems

Zeph stops when Axara scolds him.

Death is a way of life. If she becomes an emotional wreck from killing... then maybe she is in the wrong line of work. Zeph thinks to himself initially.

"Eh. Maybe your right. Sorry." Zeph says to Axara, rethinking his original position.

Maybe its just because we knew Sebastian first that she is sensitive about it. I'm sure if we were to kill Ogres to save a villiage, she wouldn't react the same... and she does have a point... maybe it was wrong to begin with. Zeph thinks, still trying to ponder right from wrong.

Zeph looks at the flute briefly, and then puts it away in the side pocket of his backpack.

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:18 .. HP:27/29]
Thursday November 20th, 2008 10:39:31 PM

Feyjarl does not give his name, knowing full well that their knowledge of it could prove terminal.

Feyjarl raises an eyebrow at Axara's outburst, 'clearly a woman with issues', he thinks to himself, 'i'll give her a very wide berth... hardly a surprise the ex's don't hang around! ... Strange though, for someone so physically attractive to...' Feyjarl visibly shrugged as he watched the surroundings.

'I guess something's happened to her that's caused this state.'

Norv chuckles a little at Rollo's reply. "A fine direction, to be sure," he replies. "Good to meet you, Master Goodbarrel, Mistress Axara. Our farm's a few miles on," he replies to Hmark.

"Jarlwolf?" he replies to Zeph. "Ah, the big city! I was there once, in my youth. Someday, perhaps, I'll take Leezy there."

Zeph tries to play the flute, but is not well received.

Keil keeps a wary eye on the strangers. You detect nothing untoward about Norv. You do notice that Leezy, the daughter, seems very embarrassed that her father asked for help for her. Probably more so than the situation would seem to warrant. But perhaps she's just sensitive. She does not speak to any of you, but rides quietly, watching the ground go past.

Perhaps sensing the tension, Norv launches into a complicated narrative of how the spring planting went, how many lambs they lost in the rains last month, what price turnips are expected to fetch come fall. It's probably fascinating if you're a farmer, but as general conversation goes, it's a little hard to follow.

After a couple of miles, he asks you to stop. "Home's up yonder," he says, gesturing at a farm-track that intersects the main road. "I think Leezy can make it from here, can't you, Leezy?"

"Of course," the girl replies. "I'm fine; I keep telling you."

"Thank you for your help," Norv tells you. After an awkward silence, he prompts: "Leezy?"

"Um, yeah, thanks," the girl says.

"And a good and prosperous journey to you," Norv adds.

Kiel [AC:18 - HP:34/34]
Friday November 21st, 2008 1:50:26 AM

Stops his horse and sits there. After listening to the man speak. And, feeling a bit embarrassed about what transpired a few miles back down the road, Kiel slides off Phoenix.
Easily catching up to Norv and his daughter, after they have gone 50 feet or so from his companions, Kiel gets his to stop.
Norv aka DM Highlight to display spoiler: { I apologize for my actions earlier. There is no excuse I can have to condone my actions. <reaching into his waistband, Kiel produces a small bag and pulls something out> I want you to do me a favor. Having grown up on a farm all my life before hearing the call, I know what life is like and I know you were just wanting what is best for your daughter there. So I want to offer you a deal, because if you are anything like my folks, you don't accept charity. The next time me and my friend come through here, we would like to stop by for a day or to to rest our bones, and those of our animals. <taking Norv's hand as if shaking it, he leaves 2 black onyx's worth 50gp each in the man's palm> This should cover the food consumption of me and my companions and those of our animals should we stop by, and it is also my wish good sir that you take some of that money and purchase new shoes for everyone, including that daughter of yours. <smiling at her, genuinely> }

After talking to him, Kiel returns to the group, and after he gets back on his faithful steed, with a smile on his face, he waves to the 2 and then, returning to serious mode, he beckons his horse back down the road.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 24/24]
Friday November 21st, 2008 8:57:49 AM

As Kiel talks to the farmer, Axara approaches Zeph "I am sorry for jumping at you as you played his flute. It is just that I am still not sure we did the right thing by not attempting to try to stop Kiel or by not handing him to the authority. I was never betrayed before by a brother in arms and it is difficult for me to see pass Sebastian and see the bad man he was. The wound is still too fresh in my mind. I am better off if we do not talk about him or do anything that remind me of him.

She notices that Feygarl is staying away from her "Good. At least one man that does not think with his groin and go for my look only. He saw I was a nutcase and he stays away. Smart man "

Zeph looks at Axara after she explains her feelings, smiles, and says quietly to her "Sebastian wasn't a bad man, just gullible. I think his fiance is the one associating with the wrong people. If anything, we probably should have followed him to Rowena and killed whatever organization or evil person is trying to take our... banana" Zeph says, with a little smirk and a sidelong glance at Rollo's backpack.

"We may have half the world's evil people chasing us down and we don't even know it. That is why we must destroy this thing and put an end to it once and for all." Zeph says very quietly as an afterthought.

I guess we continue along our way. Zeph will take the first watch so that he could read some more by the sunset.

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:19 HP:17/17]
Friday November 21st, 2008 12:04:32 PM

As Norv goes into his long descriptions of the farming, Garret nudges his riding dog closer and listens quite intently. He seems to follow along for the most part, a couple times interrupting to ask questions like, "And then how much did the turnips fetch last year?" And "How many lambs were there that survived those times?" He seems quite interested, but listening close one can tell he really doesn't know anything about farming at all.

When they arrive at the farm, Garret says to Norv, "Thank you, good sir, for sharing your knowledge with us and for your company on the road."

Hmark
Friday November 21st, 2008 2:36:32 PM

Hmark listens to Norv's descriptions, nodding along at the appropriate intervals. To anyone who cares to watch the young man, it is clear he's following the farmer's conversation without any issue. He even throws in a question or two -
"Do you put the turnips next to your water supply and then the cabbages, or the other way around?"
- and actually seems interested in the reply.

Riding on, he gives the farmer a wave, and Leezy a wink.

Dropping back to his rear-guard station, Hmark notes Feyjarl's reaction to Axara's outburst.
As he passes the newcomer, he murmurs
"Why do you think I ride all the way back here?"

Feyjarl gives Hmark a conspiratory smile.

"Quite an eclectic mix of people you have in this group," Feyjarl comments, "it seems you've been through a deal of trouble, but haven't we all." The last comment was almost too quiet to be heard.

Feyjarl rides up to the front of the group.

DM Kathy
Sunday November 23rd, 2008 9:35:46 PM

You bid your last farewells to the farmer and his daughter. Kiel stays behind to say a few parting words.

You continue on your journey, and a short time later stop at another roadside inn. This inn is even more crowded than the place you stayed last night, and everyone seems very merry. You soon learn that a local lad and lass were married today, and the celebration has spilled over into the inn. Drink flows freely, and everyone drinks many toasts to the happy couple. An impromptu dance begins in the middle of the common room, tables shoved out of the way as the couples whirl about and the onlookers clap and stomp in time to the music.

It takes a while to get supper.

Fortunately, most of the celebrants are local, so there are plenty of sleeping-rooms available. You are, perhaps, up later than you normally would be, but you are able to get a decent night's sleep.

The next day is much the same, although a few cloudbursts make it somewhat less pleasant. On the following day, you at last turn south, leaving Cinnamon Valley and joining the great trade road to Aisildur.

The road in Cinnamon Valley was fairly busy, but this road positively teems with traffic. You see merchant caravans, pilgrims, peddlers, fellow adventurers, farmers, laborers, even a drover with a herd of swine, earning curses from all who try to make their way around or past him. Inns are frequent beside the road, and it looks as if you'll have your pick of places to sleep tonight.

Zeph looks around him, in a bit of excitement. "If I'm not mistaken, then this may be part of the magically protected road that keeps bandits and the like out... but I could be wrong." Zeph says.

DMKathy Highlight to display spoiler: {Zeph will give into his old temptation of trying to lift items off of wealthy looking wizards. Hmark

Hmark unabashadly gawks at the crowded road like an overawed farmboy.

"Have you ever seen so many people?" he marvels aloud. "This is fantastic!"

When it comes time to bed down, the only comment the young man makes is "just so's it's cheap."
He is also more than agreeable that a guard will have to be in place overnight.

Always observant.

Keeps an eye on Rollo just in case.

Then, after supper he turns in early and rises early.

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:18 .. HP:27/29]
Monday November 24th, 2008 5:43:44 PM

Feyjarl saunters through the crowds on his horse, paying them no interest other than being wary of thieves.

Nighttime - Feyjarl settles his mount and then rubs the ointment he has into his wounds received from the fight with the bandits. He takes any guard duties required and sleeps... Dreaming about his love as he seems to every night - whether he wants to or not!

Highlight to display spoiler: {The dreams are another effect of the ointment that he puts on wounds, that also induces a love of Zhang}
