Lorth looks to Malgant. "Be careful friend, it is a chaotic beast you parlay with. Will it hold up its end of the bargain? I think not. This dragon is hardly bound by it's word and it could just be leading us into a trap." He pauses, "It is best not to strike deals with creatures of evil, just meet them head on when they come."

"Well, there is no harm in waiting 24 hours. But be alert for betrayal! She may well choose to attack when we are sleeping! We need to be vigilant, and we need to rest in a place that gives us a defensive advantage."
"Also, we could know more than we do. Why is the water turning to acid? How are the froggies involved in all this?"
"But as for me, In 24 hours I will vote against this deal."

She casts a Detect Victim spell, using a drop of dragon blood as a component, to find any other of the dragon's victim's within the spell's range.
She asks, "How does that dragon know where we arre?" a little paranoia creeps into her voice along with her accent. She casts Detect Magic and scans all around for an invisible sensor that would show the party is being scryed.
She asks if anyone has any other divination magic. "Maybe you divine types can ask for info with a divination or augury or something?"

To Lorth, Malgant replies," I know that she is a chaotic being and that treachery is probably in her nature. However I also know that alot of what she is saying is true. This is her island. She is deeply pissed off at us right now and likely it is taking all of her restraint to not come in here like an avenging angel and try to kill us. What I want to know is....what is stopping her? If I were a powerful dragon and my brood had just been destroyed without so much as inflicting a causality on the enemy I would want to swoop in and get some payback. Something about us must be scaring her. Is it our spellcasters?was she once subjugated by a wizard and fears them? I don't know. But the part where this is her island and we could search for weeks without even seeing her rings true in my mind so terms or not I will go and meet her at this appointed time because there is at least a CHANCE of finding her there. The terms she offers are to be honest, awful, but they are at least a chance at an honorable resolution to this rather than the foul taste that I have in my mouth right now after slaughtering young that were clearly barely able to defend themselves against the likes of us." Turning to answer Vauhwyt, Malgant says " I came here expecting to fight a creature of immense power. I asked Domi to grant me prayers that would allow myself and my friends the best chance of surviving that, mainly combat spells and healing. As far as divination, I doubt that it would work. Priscilla, who is far better a diviner than I, was blocked when she tried to gather information for us. I have also never asked Domi to show me a path when I still had a path available in front of me, no matter how unsavory or dangerous that path was. How can she sense us? perhaps a crystal ball or some other scrying device. For that matter if she can see us I would also assume she can hear us as well. I am suited to be a protector, rather than a diviner. I wouldn't even know what questions to ask. I'm sorry. Books and lore were never my strong point." " As for where to wait and rest, I would propose the wooded parts of the island, kind of like where we are now. The reason I suggest this is because even though the trees would provide her with cover to sneak up on us, they limit her ability to swoop in and either snatch one of us up and fly away, or to use the breath on us from the air."

Your detect magic detects nothing. The night goes by with little problem. The air is cold tonight and you seem to quiver with anticipation. The local animals seem to know something great and ancient is about to happen as well becasue all is quiet through the night.

Light Fortification, AC 26, 82/82hp Malgant Tuesday November 4th, 2008 5:32:57 PM
As night falls, chilly for once instead of the heat that had been the norm for the past few days, Malgant searches the camp for Val. He sits with her, simply enjoying e company and ready if she wants to talk. When everyone is ready to turn in, Malgant takes the first watch, seeing to it that everyone bds down for a good rest, they will need it for tomorrow. As he watches, His mind turns over all that he has ever heard of dragons and how they fight. His greatest fear, of losing those he is charged to protect haunts him again and he tries to remember every prayer from his teachings that could be of use. The main weapon that the dragon has is fear. Their size and sheer power supposedly radiate off of them and strike uncertainty into the hearts of their foes. Malgant remembers Domi's teachings about taking heart in desperate situations and showing no fear. Easy for the heros of old, not so easy for Malgant as the reality settles in that tomorrow he will face a real dragon, not the babies from earlier today. He knows that he is always calm when he is near Lorth, the paldain's calm assurance that death will come for him when Gargul wills it, and that he is Gargul's servant makes him a bastion of strength when fear is the weapon. He hopes that Lorth will be near him tomorrow when he needs that strength.
When another member of the group came to take the watch from him, Malgant snuggled next to Val to keep her warm through the chilly night.
In the morning, Malgant awoke early, as was normal for him and asked a few questions of the group before praying for Domi's aid in the coming conflict. Of Vauhwyt Malgant asks, " Are you able to ward any others in the group with resistance to acid? I can cover some of us, but the more people I ward the fewer prayers I will have left in an emergency for healing." Of the others in the group Malgant asks a simple question. " Give me questions, that Domi, or one of his servants might be able to answer with a yes or a no about the coming fight. I have rethought about asking his advice and I think that a few questions would not hurt. I already am prepared to ask if 'defeating the mother of the brood will allow Blackbird lake to recover from the acid blight'. I think another question of that nature would be ' Is the acid blight caused by the dragons?' I will need seven more questions to ask of Domi's servant when they arive. I need them ready so as not to waste their time and displease them. I will let you all think about the questions, while I go and perform my morning prayers and prepare myself to call upon Domi for advice." If they have no questions for him, Malgant scoops up his great sword and finds a clear spot to begin his prayers. ooc praying for commune. I will cast it once the group has some questions for me. we also should really come up with a tacticly sound plan for this fight. I can prep us for and or negate the fear so long as we stay close, and I think Lorth's ability will help us on our save, but that is my BIG fear for this fight, aside from being turned into acidic goo.

Val has no trouble slipping into reverie this night. Perhaps she's overconfident but considering the things she has been through, a dragon isn't the worst. Oh she knows it will be deadly and she may very well die, but the exotic elf isn't concerned.
"After a few of these certain death situations they kinda loose the impact."
Vauhwyt and Mookie Tuesday November 4th, 2008 9:07:39 PM
Vauhwyt seeks help if anyone will lend a hand, and either uses her three remaining Shrink Item spells to shrink three of the baby dragon corpses, or if they are too big, three of their hides. "Them's good armorin'," she says.
She also makes sure that she has a few scales and teeth to use as components.
The liontaur tells Malgant that she can ward up to five other people from acid for 70 minutes each.
Her suggestion for Commune questions:
1) Should we agree with the dragon's terms to resolve this?
2) Can we trust the dragon to keep her word?
3) Are these magic items (the disc, the wand, the arrows etc.) key to our success?
4) Should we find out what they are before the fight?
Vauhwyt stands a watch as well -- either the first or the last.

Tears fill Malgants eyes as he prays. To those outside that is all there is to see. The chanting drone of his prayer in Tauric seems unbroken and repetitive, and lasts for quite awhile. Inwardly, Malgant is overjoyed that Domi has found this quest worthy of his attention. The answers are short and to the point, all except the question of resolving the Acid blight. Malgant frowns at this and although he suspected as much he is still troubled by the response. When the chanting stops and Malgant returns to himself, he knows what they must do and his only fear now is that he is up to the task of keeping all of his friends alive to get it done. Facing his friends he begins to put on his armor, slowly buckling each strap, making sure that everything is ready for the coming fight. As he does this he relates his prayer to the others.
"I received answers to the questions that I had posed and that Vauhwyt came up with. I will tell you exactly what the answers were, in case you all see a different interpretation than I do in the words chosen as the answer. these are the questions I asked and the answers I received. 1. Will defeating the mother remove the acid blight? A. Yes, however, in removing the dragons you will be unleashing something far more deadly unto the land. Imagine a chess board. The queens help keep one another in check. There is an opposite and equally deadly queen on this board.
2. Are the dragons the cause of the acid blight? A. Yes.

5. Are these magic items (the disc, the wand, the arrows etc.) key to our success? A. They are not key, but can help. Your destiny lies within yourself.
6. Should we find out what they are before the fight? A. Unnecessary. I think that the dragon will probably not negotiate, and will need to be killed. In my heart I have to side with Lorth that the dragon is a powerful chaotic being and feels no compunction to stay true to her word and end the blight willingly. From what we have seen with he brood I think that polluting the water in which her eggs lay in wait to hatch is part of her nature and even if she stops it for now will happen again. THe dragon says that none of our spellcasters are allowed to come within range of her. I distrust this as well. If Aztyr is that far away from us there is nothing preventing the dragon from flying there while we are waiting to engage her and killing Aztyr and than coming back for us, so I propose we stick together. As far as casting spells at her I think we would be much better off buffing ourselves with protective and enhancing spells than trying to use magic directly against the dragon. A being this powerful, powerful enough to speak to me telepathically will likely be very resistant to spells. Aztyr if you can make those of us who will need to fight her up close able to fly and able to hit her harder or survive her assaults better I think it would be our best bet. As far as the arrows and other items we found go I think they should be passed out to those that can use them and used against her. These are just my thoughts, does anyone else have a strategy that they want to add to help keep us organized and on track in this fight?"

I agree Vorelle maybe persue her to move from these islands and go to another place where the acid has no effect. Domi syas that there was another power, maybe an power she is afraid for maybe we could help her to fight this power so she can go back to place where she used to live. " It is time. She has severed the connection so I cannot respond to her. I know the path, she says she will make it clear for us. We have been given two hours to reach the far side of the island where we ae to meet her. Or we can turn and leave and she will kill us at her leisure. So who else is coming with me to face the pissed off momma dragon?" Malgant poses the last question in an effort to inject some humor that he does not really share. He knows they have a chance of winning, a real chance. But he also knows tha victory is never cheap. That is the whole reason he is in exile in the first place. He also knows that he wouldn't change his course right now even if his death was certain. Just as he wouldn't have a year before.

" Walk, I'd say. She is clearing a path for us and said we would be safe. Besides, I doubt an early afternoon acid swim is high on anyone's list of things to do right now. Dragons have super keen senses, so I expect she would notice us coming from the other way long before it made a tactical difference." Malgant tosses in a smile at the acid swim joke, and begins walking in the direction of the meeting. " I expect she can see, or sense invisible being as well. Domi knows that if I were expecting to fight anything like that I would have the magical means to do so, and I do, by the way. Basically as I see it, once negotiations are over, we strengthen our resistances as much as possible and we go in spread out, making her pick a target to breathe on rather than being able to catch more than one of us at a time. If she waits to choose a target by threat level I expect Lorth to draw almost all of the Acid breath. His lance will be tough to ignore. Vauhwyt, if you could ward Lorth, Aztyr,Vorelle,Appolo and yourself against her acid breath I will ward myself, Val and Bart. On top of that I have a second ward to put on Lorth and Tobiaz to further mitigate the acid breath I see them getting hit with. If Aztyr can make those of us who melee, fly, including Tobiaz, I think we will be able to keep the pressure up on her and allow Val and Vorelle to snipe away her life with their bows. Pass out those arrows that we found in the froggie hut too. We don't know what they do, but they might be helpful. Any other ideas to add?" Malgant would look back to see if anyone wanted to add to the plan, or fix any glaring errors they saw in it, but he was busy blazing a path for the others to follow, hopefully under Vorelle's guidance since one spot looked as good as any other to the Minotaur to blaze a trail through.

DM Buzz Monday November 10th, 2008 6:36:57 PM
The group tromps through the jungle as the ideas pour out, on how to best defeat the dragon. Malgant believes her breath weapon the most dangerous of her offenses, so warns those about it.
Val uses sarcasm to lighten the mood a bit while also being specific that defeating the dragon is possible.[/b]
Bart volunteers to take a melee position, but also offers that another way to defeat the dragon possible, without elaboration.
Lorth can see that the North East lies the beach where the meeting is to take place and activity is already present.
Vorelle also notices what is happening to the North East. Her knowledge allows her to know large beasts are involved.
Appolo is not concerned as to the situation. Killing, just a part of his career, the tremors a reflection of his life.
Not to long after the morning begins and the message with Malgant ends, do they indeed find a trail made for them. No tracks concealed, they lead to the north east for miles.
From here guys, I need you to start posting your new morning spells and which spells you cast after you break camp. As well, I need a party order, double file is possible as she has used her girth to wade you a trail starting a quarter mile away from where you camped. It will take you two hours to walk to the other side of the island. Moving twice speed will require DC10 Reflex saves to avoid tripping over the crushed foilage. I will need these specifics by Thursday or I will need to leave you out of the battle so she can't just kill a defenseless creature. Or would she? Hmmmmm?

Val AC 26, HP 109/ 112 Monday November 10th, 2008 11:01:09 PM
Val stands in the back, bow in hand. If she, Appolo, and Bart are meant to be dragons they will survive this battle. This is the sort of things Dragons do. Take on the really big tasks. The ones that could really hurt a lot of people and cause irreperable harm.
"It's simple really. We have to stop this dragon and whatever comes next. So many innocent people will get killed and if we are truly to be heroes we do not fail."

Vauhwyt feels the ground shudder. She listens to her friends' warnings. She fears at first that an attack is about to occur, but then realizes that the danger is still a ways off.
She casts her False Life spell -- its seven hour duration will serve her well. She shares it with Mookie. It adds 15 hp to each's total.
Vauhwyt has deep reservations about following the path. "What if it is a trap? Why are we following this dragon?"
Vauhwyt casts Message to let the party whisper to her (within 170 feet). She heads off into the bush to the east of the party, not choosing to stay on the road. Since the party moves at 20, and Vauhwyt moves at 40, if the brush brings her to half speed, it still lets her keep up fine.
She stays as alert as she can: Spot 19, Listen 12.
[OOC: Buzz, please do stop us when we are an hour out. Vauhwyt has a bunch of 70 minute duration spells to cast, and she will have to recast her Message cantrip.]

Appolo Protection from Acid 100 /20 Boots of Speed Haste +4 Tuesday November 11th, 2008 4:34:07 PM
Appolo moves down the trail"Ok folks stay loose and keep your cool.Don't cast any spells until we get to the beach. Then I'll need fly haste and barkskin along with acid protection if all that is possible."
Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Tuesday November 11th, 2008 4:54:33 PM
Malgant falls in behind Tobiaz, knowing well that if Lorth is in front and combat occurs it will keep him from having to get a clear line of advance to charge. As Appolo speaks Malgant wonders when they picked up a druid to be able to turn Appolo's skin to bark. Maybe one of the others has a wand or scroll that Malgant doesn't know about.
OOC Yes please stop us before we hit the beach, I'd say 15 to 30 minues before. I have plenty of longer term prep spells to cast. Real combat ones may have to wait for the actual fight to start or else they will run out. Since I have never needed a full party buff session yet I will need to check my durations and cast them accordingly. Guess that's my homework tonight 8). AS for my memorized( prayed for) spells they are on my character sheet. Cast ones have an * after them. This keeps the thread neat since my durations list is bad enough once I get o buffing, having the spell list in here too would definately be a crit sized wall of text.
Bart ac 31 hp 105/105 Wednesday November 12th, 2008 1:13:08 AM
Bart walks just after the scouts Vorelle Val? in 3 or 4 th place. Can one of u cast stoneskin on all group members or at least at the fighters?
DM Buzz Wednesday November 12th, 2008 7:23:14 AM ooc: Sorry guys. I had an above average day of pain yesterday. I fell down and it really activated some already upset and swollen nerves, so I double dosed my drugs and took about 20 hours of sleep. Still quite painful, but I don't think any stitches were torn or more damage was caused. No excuses, just reasons.
Vorelle moves with the group and stays alert. She feels she would be best for the group in the front, but also feels, she would not last long should a dangerous encounter occur.
Val takes the rear position and speaks her mind, that the dragons evil must end.
Vauhwyt casts two spells. One for herself and another for the group.
Lorth without hesitation, takes the lead of the group.
Appolo stays on the trail that was made by their hostess and gives direction on what may be needed.
Malgant decides to follow the Paladin Lorth
Bart decides to stay somewhere toward the middle of the group and asks for protection himself.
The characters move carefully following the trail that was left for them. Some using the ease of the ripped up trail, while others staying on the out skirts.
The canopy of the jungle allows little light through and only those with some form of time sense in the wilderness would understand the rotations of the Wold.
Survival Check DC 15 for distance and time from the pond of carnage where the group began their day to the beach.
It should be determined by the group very soon, who will be doing the fighting and who will be doing the watching. I want them in two seperate groups so I will know who is where.
Also guys, I want you all to know, I am very anal when it come to my requests. If you have a spell list, put it on your next post, I don't care if it's only one or two spells.
If you have a spell on you from someone else, I want it listed on your post at the bottom, with the time remaining. I want to be able to see and find things easily and if you have not done as I have asked, then I will assume the situation and you may not like the outcome. The sooner this is done, the faster the encounter will begin.
Vauhwyt has the perfect example of what I desire. Please use his method.

Vorelle d20+15=33 ; Wednesday November 12th, 2008 3:45:46 PM
Vorelle's mental clock mantains a decent estimate of how far the group has gone, and how much farther they need to go. If the spellcasters ask her, she can stop the group approximately where they want. [Survival 33]

Vauhwyt (AC19, HP 100 of 85) and Mookie (AC15, HP 57 of 42) Wednesday November 12th, 2008 5:39:10 PM
Just a few minutes into the walk, Vauhwyt recalls that her Nemesis Insight Spell has a duration of seven hours, so she casts that too.
Then Vauhwyt waits until Vorelle says the group is 50 minutes out. At that time she casts Alter Self on Mookie (monkey form), Resist Acid on herself (shared with Mookie), and Resist Acid on Vorelle, Bart, and Aztyr. She casts another Message cantrip, since the first one ran out.
The liontaur tells Aztyr, "If the time comes, and I can't get at the beastie, I sure would appreciate a Fly spell!"
"First off, whoever is going toe to toe first, I suggest taking this dead corpse of one of the baby dragons -- which I have here in shrunken form -- and keep it in your hand. Dropping it is a free action, and that will unshrink it. Doing that at the right moment may throw the beastie off her stride. Can't hurt to try, especially with a Bluff or Intimidate check!"
Vauhwyt explains her strategy: "I intend to hold back until we can see the beastie. Then I will cast, in quick succession, Expeditious Retreat, Reduce Self, Shield, and Blink While I'm doing that, Mookie will use this wand to cast Protection from Evil on me, as well as a Bless, and summon a trick from my Bag of Tricks. That will take four rounds of buffing."
"I figure during that time maybe Aztyr can cast a Fly on me, which would be great, and of course I'll take all the buffs I can get!"
"Then I'll either sneak up Darkwalking or run up fast to attack. Hopefully whoever is up there first" -- she looks at Mal and Val -- "won't be dead yet!"
She grins and looks excited. Mookie caws, "Boss, you sure you need me for this job? I think I left the iron on back at the ship."
Vauwhyt ignores him.

DM Buzz Thursday November 13th, 2008 8:00:29 PM
The group speaks of their enemy and what she is capable of. All the chromatic dragons are of high intellect and their age can equal that of the mightiest trees and oldest elves. Time, they having nothing but time on their side, as they sit on their piles of treasure. Each accumulated through different methods of conniving evil deeds. In turn, as they rest on their horde, they think. They think of every possible way that something else will try to steal from their treasure. They measure out every foot of space that is in their domain and consider how to defend it. Running through their violent minds are the many scenarios's where they will have to defend against that which also value their treasure.
Thankfully, she was to busy worrying about her treasure to consider her spawn. She did not think much would dare bother her young, unfortunately for them obviously, for their demise was easy and it leaves one to wonder, if her loss will effect her actions in battle. Will revenge somehow change her years of strategy on the defense of her island?
They travel for an hour and a half when they realize, there is about an hours walk to go before they get to where they believe is the beach.
It seems as though, as this time, the group will not be taking the dragons call for honorable combat, sensing it's species in it and of itself, does not understand the word.
Birds can be heard to fly beneath the under canopy and it is clear, that some dens were disturbed in the dragons swath of destruction, leading the group to their possible doom. Non aggressive animals dart away from the noisy marching of the small force.

From the brush to the side, away from the party, Vauhwyt readies a Shield spell to cast on herself as soon as the dragon appears in sight. (Ready Action)
She prepares herself for the coming fight, running through her checklist:
50% miss chance while blinking -- set to cast soon Evasion to negate all breath damage if the blink fails -- check Acid resistance to cut damage by 20 points if the evasion fails -- check False Life to absorb 15 hp damage if any gets past the Acid resist -- check
"I'm ready!" says Vauwhyt.
Mookie adds,
Crazy Boss who should be running the other way fast -- check!
Hey! Does anyone take Vauhwyt up on her offer of a shrunken dead baby dragon corpse?
"Dem's good eatin' " caws Mookie, nervously looking around.

Mookie caws, "Tell him the fun part, Boss!"
"Oh yeah," says Vauhwyt. "if you get hit by a dispel magic or an anti-magic effect, it could revert on you. If it's in a backpack, say, that could be a surprise. I keep mine in my Handy Haversack, just to avoid that kind of, uh, unexpected development."
The liontaur grins as Mookie caws, "Is that a dead dragon in your pocket, or are you just really happy to see me?"

Malgant walks on, following Lorth. As he does so he goes over the plan again and again in his head, looking for flaws. Hundreds of things could go wrong, but there is no way to predict any of them. He prays silently, inwardly for Domi to guide their cause and help them. The prayer calms him and he looks around. He realizes that he has no sense of time since he cannot see the sky clearly. He also has no sense of how far they still have to travel to reach the beach. He looks to Vorelle, knowing the ranger will know all of these things as surely as she knows Champ's favorite food. How far Vorelle, will we make it to the beach on time? Warn me when we near the beach, so that I may say a few prayers to ward us against the dragon's breath and awe inspiring presence." DM Buzz d20+19=35 ; Tuesday November 18th, 2008 6:48:54 PM
After an hour and a half, from the last camping site, the group had some long term spells cast upon them and another hour passes as you can tell, the ground is growing more firm, as the marsh seems to be more of the southern part of the island. Jungle canopies still cover the swath of destruction for quite some time until it gets more wide, to where the sky can be seen and it appears to be a clear, sunny day for the moment. All character mark 60 minutes off of your spells cast previously at this time. Make a note of it on your sheet if you had one cast on you, that is.
Up ahead can be seen, a large pile of brush and trees that have been torn out of the ground in the surrounding area, to create a large mound. As well, there is around sixty feet of cleared foliage around this large pile, or hill of trees, fronds and brush that have been piled to around 60' high and 30' in diameter. The mound at this time is 120' away from you.
Off in the distance a large rock outcropping perhaps 800 or 900 feet high hugs the edge of the beach and the water, but it is still difficult to see but it is around two miles away.
The group can see, a sandy beach beyond the jungles edge but at this point, it is difficult to see much more then what has been described without getting closer to the mound of trees and brush that once thrived in the path you have traveled.
Off in the distance, a large black creature flies in large wide circles until it obviously sees one of you and makes a straight path toward you, flying very fast, then swooping down behind the large mound out of your vision.
The creature is obviously hundreds of feet away from you at this time, as it seems to have planned well how your meeting will begin.
With a large booming voice you can hear over the birds and monkeys that immediately go silent and are heard to fly and scamper away from the area, "I would prefer to parley and discuss terms of this battle before this begins, but if you prefer, I can just leave for now and find you all some time this evening when you least expect it?"
It roars once before it continues, "Come just beyond the mound and we will be out of range of each others attacks and we can discuss this like intelligent creatures."
Given the mounds description, let me know relatively where each of you are in feet and I will add that to the map I send out.
To climb the mound requires a DC 15
After subtracting the 60 minutes from the first spells cast, subtract an additional 2 rounds for movement, and one more for each additional spell cast before you approch beyond the mound.
Once the group can see past the large mound, I will send out a map.
Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Tuesday November 18th, 2008 8:22:57 PM
" Lorth, I have warded both you and Tobiaz against acid, you much more heavily than Tobiaz. I think that once you drive your lance home, the dragon will make a determined effort to see that it never happens again, thus the extra warding for you. Be warned though, you may need to heal Tobiaz . As for the rest of us, Bart, Appolo,Vauhwyt and myself will close with her and try to stay as spread out as we can, so that she can only hit one of us at a time with her acid. Val, I know that you will rain death upon her with your bow. Aztyr how you fight is up to you. I know you would prefer spells, and her restriction upon their use is already in question with us warding ourselves with magic. I feel that not warding ourselves or being able to fly so as to be able to keep up with her when she takes to the air will get one or more of us killed, perhaps all of us. You are as much a part of this as any of us Aztyr, do what you feel is right. Last but not least, Vorelle. I have seen you fight both in melee and with your bow (I think). How will you engage the dragon? If you close with the rest of us follow the drill and keep spread out so that she can only hit one of us at a time with her breath. If you fight with you bow then do what you do from range. I should be large enough to keep her attention Appolo, so you should be able to get some shots in without her attention being focused on you. Aside from that everyone needs to live through this. Mookie, if it comes down to rock bottom there is a wand of light healing in my haversack, just ask for it when you open the haversack and it will be on top." Malgant spits out these tactics as they trudge through the forest toward the beach, and the showdown.

Val slings her bow over her shoulder and climbs up to the top of the mound (climb check 22). It's quite a good spot and she doubts that the dragon is out of the range of her composite long bow. Otherwise it would be next to impossible to hear each other. Still it was a good spot for her. One slide down the back of the mound and she would have a solid barrier against spells or whatever else the dragon will throw at them. Once up top she takes her bow in hand and keeps an arrow ready. The string is not drawn and the arrow is points at the ground.

No climber, Vorelle opts to go around the mound. Since she is away from the rest of the party, and since she isn't casting spells, she takes the time to go stealthily.
[Hide 34; Move Silently 39. This makes Vorelle move at half speed, but since the rest of the party is stopping to cast spells, she shouldn't be too far behind.]

Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Wednesday November 19th, 2008 5:40:09 PM
Prayers said and his friends protected to the best of his ability, Malgant steps around the left side of the debris pile. He walks with no hurry in his stride, he stays firmly on the ground, not hinting at the fact that at least for the next few minutes he can fly. His shield floats under it's own power in front of him and his greatsword rests, flaming, on his shoulder. He looks squarely at the distance reduced form of the dragon and is not for one minute fooled into thinking that she is any less dangerous for the great distance between them. He clears his throat and addresses the dragon. " We have come, as I explained to your brood, to stop the corruption of Blackbird Lake. The acid in the water is poisoning the whole region. It kills the fish, it stunts the plants and it draws creatures that prefer the acidic climate to the region, endangering the inhabitants. Furthermore, it is driving the Blackbird forest, unstable to begin with to say the least, insane with the pain that it causes. I asked your brood if they could, or would stop the corruption of the water and their response was hostile. They did not survive that hostility. I ask the same of you. Will you stop the corruption of the water and allow the region to return to its natural state? Furthermore, will you tell me why you have corrupted the water in such a vast area to begin with? The prophecy that sent us here to put an end to the acid blight also seems to hint at the fact that stopping the blight is only the beginning of our task. Further divination has revealed that if you are defeated, or simply choose to leave that another power, equally bad, will arise in your place. Do you know anything of this?" Malgant does not shout his words to the dragon, he simply states them in a clear voice. The deep bass of his voice rolls across the void to the dragon, who's keen ears likely could pick up the scrabbling of a mouse at Malgant's feet. Malgant stands calmly, awaiting the dragon's reply. Inwardly he prepares the words to the prayer that will allow him to channel the raw righteous power of Domi, should the dragon's response be a fierce charge instead of words.

ooc: Alright, lets hope it continues to work.
Malgant After casting spells explains tactics that he believes would be best. Taking up more time, he casts more spells as he comes out and around the mound of foliage.
Val figures the dragon to be close or communications would be difficult, but with it's large size, it can be easily heard and perhaps, that is all that is necessary.
Bendis casts spells but does not move forward.
Aztyr casts spells, but stays near Bendis, not moving forward.
Lorth with reliable mount stays behind the large mound and waits while praying.
Appolo easily climbs the mound and asks the dragon what there is to discuss. DC: 15 made with 22
Vorelle chooses to be stealthy as she moves around the mound. (Side not specified, so DM will guess.)
Vauhwyt casts a spell and makes large movements, a couple of different times, and does not mention if she will be in view to see the dragon, but realizes, once out of the cleared path, her movement is hampered by plant growth and plus, she does not mention if she moves East or West of the mound. (DM rolls d6 1-3 East/4-6 West) Vauhwyt travels East.
Malgant decides to step off to the left side of the hill of trees. He begins a more civil conversation then some of the others attempted
The dragon can be seen to be in a make shift arena. Keep in mind, some of you did not move forward, or moved into positions that would not allow you to see the situation as is, so please roll play this condition until you make a movement allowing you to do so. Also, due to the large area, each square are 30' squares at this time.
At this time as Malgant tries to communicate with the dragon, it does not seem to hear you, but does see you trying to communicate with her, so it will yell out in it's large voice. "Your going to have to yell, being near the waters makes it difficult." but once Malgant repeats himself in a loud manner, the mother shakes her head and replies. "Children, they think they know everything. Well, my abode is as I need it for my own environment, but this island can not possibly effect the entire lake. Perhaps you have been sent here seeking me, to ask for my help in your matter? After all, there are many, many evil things that surround the lake and have you heard anyone mention that I have attacked them? I think instead you are looking for the acid witch that summons the Slaads I have to deal with from time to time."
She moves along the conversation though.
"So, this is the arena I have created." She points toward the rectangle with it's left wing. The arena has a large 5-6 foot rock at each corner to define it's area and you can see, the waves of the lake come up into the arena a bit. Around the arena are trees pulled up and horizontally lined up in a circle around 300 feet away from the arena.
It continues to yell, "So, lets get this over with if you wish to battle, but if you win, you will not discover what I know and that is what you seek, likewise, if I win, my island will remain as it is and I will own your treasure as well, I will need to combat that female dogs minions as others around the lake have had to do."
She waits to see if further conversations occur or if those that want to battle approach.
Sending out the map, you guys can tell me where you think you should be, keep in mind, if not on the trail and not able to see your movement is halved and then quartered. Also, sand is considered rough terrain equaling half movement as well.
Lorth AC 25 HP 111/111 Friday November 21st, 2008 12:05:11 PM
Listening to what the dragon has said, Lorth gives pause. "Malgant, perhaps we should investigate and dispatch this acid witch first? Then we may see if what the dragon says is true." He wonders aloud, "This is so unlike a dragon of this color, I would think it would just swoop in and try and destroy us."

"The dragon may be lying but if this dragon isn't causing this disturbance then perhaps it would be grateful if we could make the real problem going away. As long as the dragon isn't hurting anybody we would have no reason to slay it."
Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Friday November 21st, 2008 4:57:06 PM
Quietly, though Malgant still feels that the dragon can hear him. " She knows her measure Lorth, and she is as certain of the outcome of this fight as I am. She might kill one, or maybe even a few of us, but she will not win. But killing her specifically is not why we were sent here. Ending the blight is why we came. So, if this goes all wrong, feel free to avenge me." With that last phrase still hanging in the air, Malgant clears his throat, and sheathes his sword. In a voice that the dragon can hear he continues. "It seems that we have a common goal then. Indeed, we were plagued by huge frogs on our way here. I knew them to be extra planar, but had not met their like before. I do recall teachings of beings of pure chaos named Slaads and if that is truly what they were then we may have a common enemy. You having dominion over this island does not matter to me. You say that your acidic environment should not plague the rest of the lake, which I do not need magic to know is true. I have purified water before and it would take me more than a lifetime to purify this lake. Will you bury your grudge for now and explain to me and my companions about this witch? I would much rather help you to remove her than fight you, if she is the cause of this blight. Our methods, and our Ethos may be completely opposed to one another's, but if we fail to defeat her and lift the blight I would only assume that another group, stronger even than us will come to do so. Surely you cannot beat group after group. And why should you? You have not done anything to make yourself hunted, just protected your home. Tell us about this witch, tell us what she wants and how we can work together to defeat her. Domi teaches us to solve our disputes by negotiation before resorting to combat, yet he trains us for combat should it be needed. I think that this can be solved without us fighting, but right now, that is up to you."
OOC I have not taken any more time off of the effects on me, because I know this conversation is lasting more than one round. Let me know how many rounds to deduct and I will.

Vauhwyt uses the message to relay everyone's conversation. And she adds a comment of her own.
"The only way we can trust her is if she swears a sacred oath. If she calls an immortal power to witness, and calls dire consequences on herself if she fails to keep her word. Then we can trust. Ask her if she will swear!"

to Vauhwyt, through the message spell, Malgant whispers," I will not, but if you need confirmation you can ask. Just this morning Domi told me hat whether or not she could be trusted lay within my own heart. IF the which that she speaks of is the Avatar of Jancassis that we have already heard tell of then my heart tells me she does not lie. However, I would guess our truce would end as soon as the avatar has been seen to. Attacked or not, we killed her children. For that there will surely be a reckoning. "

Post coming later tonight, but a few quick things.
First, no one poseted their approximate locations as I asked, with the movement of rough terrain as I have asked.
Second, I have read the archives and I did not see where it is mentioned that the "Acid Witch" is an Avatar of Jancassius. Are you using player information or character information? Where in the archives and what date did the party find out she was an Avatar? I must have missed it, but I would like to go back and reread that section again for my own information to be sure I didn't miss something else as well.
Val AC 26, HP 112/ 112 Monday November 24th, 2008 8:07:07 PM
Val stays atop the mound watching patiently. She doesn't really want to fight a dragon. Not if she can help it but she won't back down if this is what must be done. She tries to look like she's paying attention but somewhere the conversation went to a place that she couldn't follow. Right now she's glad she's not talking to the dragon.
ooc: resist energy acid 36 out of 100 minutes. I got lost somewhere because avatar of whatever that guys name is unknown to me. The only witch I'm aware of is the one with the walking house in the forest. Also I have yet to see a map of the battleground to mark my position as something other than top of the mound.

OOC I haven't moved, so you have my location Character info, reread the bard in the tavern we went to after leaving Priscillia's house. No, he didn't say avatar, but I have enough religion in my little finger to know the written description of her avatar.
Aztyr remains quiet and has her bow drawn and a arrow nocked, ready to fly through the air, and miss the very big Dragon......
Vorelle Monday November 24th, 2008 11:10:29 PM
[OOC: You said you were going to guess, and that's fine with me. :) I'm having trouble deciphering the map. My complete lack of spatial reasoning is well-documented. :) ]
DM Buzz Monday November 24th, 2008 11:19:07 PM
OOC As for Malgant he has a +5 to his knowledge religion check, so I would disagree with that statement. Please keep player information and character information separate, or bonuses will not be applied to certain characters at end of module experience for role playing. No one is aware of her avatar being present. Now if you would like to roll, you will need a Religion DC: 15 for the check.
Val I sent out a map to everyone on the mailing list for this game, please email me at Iambirgir@aol.com so I can confirm your email address and I can also send you a map of this area, of the moment.
Did anyone get the 30' square grid map I sent out?
The seconds unwind.... After this post eight minutes will have passed as she speaks and Vauhwyt does lots of actions. The dragon speaks her mind as the group speak with theirs.
"So here are the rules of the tournament, I will lay down, since you are in my territory and you have killed that which you could have subdued with non lethal damage and perhaps bargained with, I feel these are my rights." She yells out so that all in the area can hear, even if they can not see her.
"First off, only melee weapons and armor in the arena. The only magic usable are your weapons and armor, no protections other then items carried and no spells to be cast by either side before or during the battle. Like wise, I will not cast offense or defensive spells and I will not use a breath weapon. You may have as many champions in the melee as you desire. If I win, I keep all the deads items, any not in the battle may take the bodies away from here and swear by your stinking good gods never to search for me again."
Your only other option is to pay in compensation for the deaths of those that have never harmed a creature except to feed. A ten thousand gold piece fine for each of their deaths. So, we battle by my rules, you pay me forty thousand gold pieces in coins, gems or magic or I hunt you down, every night you are on the island, and you with the knowledge, that what you need, I have."
She continues in a very confident manner, "You will not get a moments rest as long as our disagreement stands and I am sure you will find, I am not so stupid to take on a bunch of adventurers bold enough to follow my trail without some thought to the matter. So What will it be? Honorable combat, compensation or jungle warfare? I will give you ten minutes to decide and I want to either see the combatants or the compensation in the arena when I return. If you choose compensation I want to see all who I am dealing with, on the outer ring of trees I laid out three hundred feet away from the arena, so be in the open and we will talk. If you double cross me, may your gods curse you as cowards and heretics of your own religions."
With that, she turns around facing the waters and flies away and off to the left toward the steaming volcano.
So mark off the eight minutes of conversation, then you have ten minutes more to mark off as you decide which course to take.

"I don't like this. Let's not forget she's an evil frickin dragon. Perhaps this island was uninhabited when she moved in. Maybe she ate a bunch of people. She has a convenient sotry which makes her look innocent. She may be innocent but the story and the rules of battle which she is making non negotiable. There isn't one rule that puts her at a disadvantage. She says she won't use a breath weapon. Well if we have to get in close she doesn't need it. Besides I think the protective spells would have done a decent enough job of fighting off the worst of that. I don't think its a coincidence that we have these unknown magical arrows and she doesn't want bows used. Think about this. If we slay the dragon there will be nobody to enforce the 'rules' of the contest. Do you really think all those young dragons will simply let us walk out of here? She led us farther away from our boat so we couldn't run if we wanted to."

Vauhwyt (AC19, HP 100 of 85) and Mookie (AC15, HP 57 of 42) Tuesday November 25th, 2008 5:30:05 PM
[OOC to DM: The whole Jancassis thing came from DM Kent -- check out the DM post of May 5, especially. We don't know what it means -- an acid witch? a red herring? something else? We don't know.]
Vauhwyt is not happy with the options the party now has. "We are being outclassed by this Dragon," she says. "She can outmaneuver us in space, and this is her home terrain."
"I presume we could beat her in a straight up fight, which is why she refuses to give us such a fight. She gives us three options: One -- fight with our hands tied (no magic), Two -- pay her off and run away, or Three -- let her come to us to fight at times of her choosing, when she is ready and we are not."
"But first, we need to know that she is not spying on us." Vauhwyt casts Detect Magic and concentrates on finding any magical sensor or eye in the area. "Can anyone detect Invisible things or creatures? Have we looked for spies?"
At the least, Vauwyt continues to whisper to her friends through the Message spell, with her hand covering her mouth.
"I think we need to change this game. We need to make up our own fourth option. We need a fifth option ready at hand. We need to be the ones who control events, and she has to react to us."
"Here are some ideas: Find her lair and go there. Find a defendable place to hole up. Cast Speak with Dead tomorrow to ask the baby dragons where the momma's lair is. We can also ask some froggies how the lake got acidic -- I have a shrunk froggie corpse here. Can anyone speak with animals? The local creatures -- eagles or seagulls or other things -- may know where the lair is."
"We need some way to limit her mobility. Does anyone have any way to do that? If we could get a big enough net, I could shrink it down ... but we have no trap makers."
"Or we need other novel ideas. Does anyone have the ability to teleport? Burrow? Hide really well?"
"We could go the trojan dragon method ... hide in the baby corpses, leave them with a note, and then jump out when the dragon comes to land. But that's no good unless we have some way to tie her down."
"Come on, friends! We need some creative ideas!"

Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Tuesday November 25th, 2008 5:33:59 PM
OOC the check was made in the post that I needed it on May 6th. In fact Vauhwyt and I talked about who the person described by the bard was in the next few posts after that one.
IC Malgant listens to the dragon's demands and rules of engagement. Her words make him think about the past few days, and the months leading up to those days, eventually his thoughts travel all the way back to the battle with the undead, the one that got him exiled from his homeland. He sits down and takes at least three to four minutes to sort through these memories. Then he lays them out in order, from first to last, trying to make some sense of how he got to this point in his life and how he has done serving his God.
Why did I leave home, aside from the fact that I was exiled for something that I DID do, that looked totally different at the time I did it? I left to prove to those who had accused me that I was in fact a hero. Those were the terms of my exile.
So how have I done, proving this to myself and thus my people? Let us review the facts. On this quest to prove myself I have allowed those that I work with to use questionably violent means to extract information from defenseless prisoners. I have allowed paranoia and fear to dictate the outcome of a fight where a young boy was possessed by an evil ghost and slain. I have allowed two innocent children to die because they were too close to a fight that I was involved in against the Slaad. Finally I have barged into the home of a possibly evil dragon and by word and deed killed four of it's young that for all intents and purposes were toddlers. I am off to a shining start to prove the elders that exiled me completely right.
Could any of those situations been resolved in a way that preserved the life of those that died or were killed by my hand? Yes. I could have tried to physically stop the others from torturing information from our captives. In the case of the Jerse boy I was simply too slow to get to the fight. Had I been able to ward him against possession we could have at least tried to find a way to remove the ghost without killing the boy. I am skeptical that this would have worked, but it was possible. I could have personally seen to it that the children were moved far enough away that the chaos unleashed by the Slaad could not have harmed them. In the case of the dragons I could have struck to subdue, or, could have continued trying to talk to them instead of killing them. They were so young that they were barely able to penetrate my armor Even had they fought they would not have caused more than superficial damage. All of these things could have been done, but most likely the outcome would have been worse for my friends, those that I am sworn to protect. Many of the solutions I have outlined would have left us all exposed to many more attacks from our opponents and could have cost many more lives
Now we come to the dragons terms. She knows information that we need to help end the blight, yet she will not give it up until her anger is satisfied by either our gold or our blood. Does she have the right to demand tribute for our trespass and our attacks? As she said she is the undisputed leader of this island so I would say that she does have that right. Would this even be a dilemma for us if the dragons had been Humans?
Malgant listened to his companions discuss their views. They were so contrary to his own right now. He knew that is a straight up fight they could best the dragon. Would they lose valuable time in ending the blight without the dragon's information though? Malgant stands up and faces his friends." What you say is probably true. however I have questions that I think you should consider before you decide on a course of action. Why, other than inability to sleep due to the vision that kept calling us, did we embark on this quest? I came to end the blight and help the people of the lake regain their ability to live here. Every person that I have met that has not fled is looking for a hero to stand up and end this blight so that they can live in peace. If we have to fight a dragon in order to do that then I will. But right now that dragon has information about what it says is causing the blight. Do we kill her and hope that the information was not vital to our cause. If we had faced young humans, or elves, or taur yesterday would we have slain them out of hand because we think that their mother, and by painting with the same brush, they, are evil?"

DM Buzz Tuesday November 25th, 2008 8:05:06 PM
The groups dilemma is a serious one as now emotions are involved and causes some to wonder if what they are doing is a proper path. Others seek other options then what is given to them, but the outcome of this scenario is one that will surely be an interesting one.
Sure, quite a bit of communication can occur through speaking with the mind over verbal communication. We will say only three minutes have occurred in this days post, that way you still have time to take an action that was presented to the group by the dragon. Keep in mind, even a couple of low level spells can increase the effective protection and attack powers of a dragon. If you decide you want to fight in any condition, either in the arena or through the marsh.
As for the Acid Witch, I doubt the dragon would have enough religion knowledge to know what she is, that is the only way she can describe what she knows.
As for the map. The blue is water, the brown is sand. The grey at the four corners of the rectangle with the darker brown are large boulders 5-6 feet tall and would be very, very heavy to move. The dark green is the jungle where the trees are roughly 40'-60' tall on average. The light green area was the swath of destruction through the foliage she made for you all so you didn't have rough terrain on movement. The dark green square in the middle of the light green area that is 60' on each side is a mound of torn up trees and brush 60' high and 30' diameter. Each square on this map are 30' squares. I will make a new one with character placements tomorrow if that will help.
As for monster knowledge, I will never set up a scenerio where you could not use items on a creature of a specific nature. The dragon just doesn't feel it is right to be out of range of it's attacks while you attack her. It cowardly. That's not what I think, that's what the dragon is thinking...:)

For the rest of the conversation, her only contribution is, "I'd r-rather f-f-fight this thing than t-t-t-talk to it." Which, since you know Vorelle, isn't saying much. She'd pretty much rather do anything than talk to somebody.

Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Wednesday November 26th, 2008 4:58:27 PM
OOC No sweat Buzz, This is going to take awhile to sort out. I have a fickle back and it has been killing me for the past week and a half too, but I don't think it is even in your same city of pain much less the same ballpark. As a player I just want to get the fight over with, but as Malgant I am having a few problems making the decision to get it started.
IC " Dragon senses are legendary Vorelle. Rumors of them being able to tell which gnat farted in a swarm of gnats have been reported. Also having left suitable hiding spots in he 'arena' would make them deathtraps since she would know where they were. As for fight her, or pay her off, or pay her off and then later kill her I am not certain what you would all like to do. These are my thoughts on that matter though."
My head and my hand say to fight her, either with or without magic. Since most of our spells have worn off by now, or will wear off by the time we engage her I would take her deal and fight without magic. Yes, it handicaps me, and Aztyr, and Vauhwyt and makes Val and Vorrele have to choose to stay on the sidelines or fight in a fashion that does not compliment them as much as their bows would. However as long as she abides by the same rules it removes one of her most potent capabilities, her breath."
" My heart, governed by Domi's teachings tells me that evil or not, we have made a mistake in killing her brood. please tell me that none of you were in the least threatened once you saw the size and ineffectual attacks that they made on us. The fight was wholesale slaughter and no dressing it up and calling it righteous makes it any less wrong. "
" As Appolo says if we were to pay her her damages and work with her to find this 'witch' and stop her I fear that at some point we will eventually come to blows with her. This option should sound like betrayal to me, but I think that you ARE right and that her evil nature will come through eventually, causing us to need to act against her. What are the rest of your thoughts on our options? We have enough time to talk this out and come to a decision. Let us use that time and explore our options."

"If they were baby dragons of a reputable good race then we wouldn't have acted so quickly. I wasn't about to wait for a baby dragon to melt my face off because we look like food. The fact that this dragon has forced us into this situation tells me all I need to know. Yes she may be offended that some of her brood were slain. But if she was really in trouble then I was waiting for some task that we could perform to help the dragon and make up for our transgression. Except no task has been offered. Just gold or death. I don't even expect the dragon to uphold her end of the bargain should we choose battle. There is nothing stopping her from melting us all with acid after the magical protection is conveniently gone. mal have you even considered what a bunch of young black dragons will do to the people that live in this area?"
Vorelle Sunday November 30th, 2008 3:40:06 PM
"The d-d-dragon could be l-l-lying," Vorelle reminds everyone via the Message spell. "She c-c-could be c-c-causing the acid. I v-v-vote we f-f-fight."
Concentrated conversation/DM Buzz Monday December 1st, 2008 1:42:23 PM
The group has a general consensus that the dragon will betray the group in some way and some suggest treachery of their own as Aztyr puts away her bow. Appolo switches from the idea of paying her off and returning later to collect compensation payed and suggests they fight by her rules until they begin to lose, then cheat. Lorth is in wonder at the thoughts of Malgant as the young beasts may eventually have caused problems for residents of the area, even though none have been reported in the past and the dragon has mentioned, her troubles with other monsters kept her busy enough and likely provide her with more treasure then a puny village ever could. Some like Vorelle feel as though they should fight even if it is common knowledge that Jancassius has caused the acid troubles and not the dragon, she does not believe such knowledge. Val expected the dragon to have them perform a deed as compensation, but clearly, the mother of the dead children have taken care of any problems of her past and still may take care of future problems if not appeased.
So the group spends another three minutes in mindful conversation and have four minutes left to either pay the compensation fine for her young of forty thousand in gold, gems or magic, enter the arena and prepare for battle, even though Lorth can not cheat, will he allow others of his group to do so? The third option is to search for her lair, in the jungle and swamp of the island, unless she lairs in volcano, which would be unusual for her breed, some could determine.
DM Buzz: When you guys finally decide what you want to do, I will send out a new map. No sense in wasted time, when you might not even use parts of it, but I am still keeping track of your movements until you leave this area.
Lorth AC 25 HP 111/111 Monday December 1st, 2008 2:45:21 PM
{OOC: I just want to tell you how I came to Lorth's reasoning DM Buzz, since I sense your trying to hint at not attacking or "cheating". It doesn't matter that said dragons have not attacked the general populace. Eventually they will grow up and do evil in the world, one island will not contain a brood of dragons. This is a D&D world. In D&D dragons are black and white. Colored dragons are evil, metallic ones are good. There is no in between, none. That is one of the problems/limitations with D&D, alignments. No matter how the DM tries to play it off, the rule system says they are evil and my paladin is good. Therefore they must be removed. In fact, black dragons are the exact polar opposite of Lorth's alignment. Should Lorth allow evil to exist because he believes it will stay contained to its part of the Wold? I think not.}
"I would oppose entering this combat under the pretext of following the dragon's rules then changing them mid-fight", Lorth adds. "If we enter the fight under the dragons rules, I will obey them. However, I do not think we should fight under the dragon's rules."
Active spells:
Resist energy acid ,20 acid resistance for 185 rounds Protection from acid, 120 acid resistance, 185 rounds Delay poison 9.5 hours
DM Buzz: Play your character as you want, but I don't see Lorth killing evil humans he may find in a town just because they are evil, if detected, now would you? Are you differentiating between evil species or evil in general, I wonder? Because you have a whole lot of killing to do in Aisildur, just a few hundred miles away if you want.
Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Monday December 1st, 2008 5:00:50 PM My point exactly Buzz On to the post
IC Malgant listens to the other's views as the clock continues to wind down. He feels the lightness of Aztyr's fly spell leave him, and he is wholly earthbound once more. When Lorth clarifies his view about using any and all means to fight the dragon Malgant remembers her terms and wants to clarify something befoe they get ready to fight. " As part of her terms, she mentioned no resist spells or enhancements of any kind. Currently we are all under spells to protect us from acid. To accept her challenge before they wear off would already be in violation of her terms. If we fight her without telling her about the spells we are cheating, by the letter of the challenge. If we inform her I suspect she will fly off and attack us later, with her full capabilities, when we are not prepared. With Aztyr's magic gone, we have no way of stopping her should she choose to leave the arena and attack us at a later time. The consensus of the group is to fight her, either now or at the time of her choosing. That is plain and I will fight her to my last breath if need be. Let us decide now how and where we will fight her, before she returns, so that we are all properly ready for her and can make our best showing against her. WHen this is over we can talk again about the other issues that lay in our past, I was wrong to bring them up now and cloud the issue at hand. For now, focus on the dragon." "Let's just fight according to the terms. I've got a warhammer that should have a strong enough enchantment to hurt the beast. I'm not geared for dragons so I will have to do the best I can. We should watch for her treachery and be prepared to use whatever means necessary when she cheats."
Aztyr (58/58 hp, 25 AC and Jynx (29 hp, 18 AC)) Monday December 1st, 2008 11:46:01 PM
Aztyr rests her hands on the hilts of the swords hanging on her harness. "I'll stay out of the arguement about wether or not something or someone is born evil. But I will say I personally believe all intelligent beings make a choice as to thier behavior. But if we are going to fight this Dragon, then we fight the dragon. I'll do whatever I need, for us to live and I expect the rest of you to do the same." She then goes back to being quiet, knowing that her comments will probably fuel the comming arguement....

Lorth AC 25 HP 111/111 Tuesday December 2nd, 2008 9:37:03 AM
{OOC: Now your being silly, of course Lorth would do his utmost to remove any evil beings he came upon, if he knew they where evil. Of course he has to do it within the letter of the law, so in a society that allows evil people freedoms under the law, he can do nothing about, "or at least has to stay within the law". Also "character races" can be any alignment, black dragons are always CE, always. On a side note, detecting someones alignment is akin to assault, Lorth only does it when he has too, and prefers to let peoples actions speak for themselves. However Lorth doesnt need to detect on a black dragon, he knows it is evil.}
Lorth waits, he is done arguing, black dragons are evil, they don't get to make decisions not to be evil. Everyone knows from childhood that colored dragons are evil.
{Please see MM where it says, always evil. I point out again, I think it is a limitation of D&D, but it is the rules}
DM Buzz: SO humans are exempt from your wrath against evil because you are one also? To me, that is silly, but like I said before, play your character the way you desire. Your in an area that is undisputedly owned by evil, just as Aisildur is, so even here, you are breaking the law of the land

Vauhwyt shakes her head to clear it of the cobwebs. "This is easy. If I can kill this thing, I will. I make no promises and I agree to no terms. I do not bind others, and I do not agree to be bound."
"Right now I urge us to not be swayed by this dragon's clever ways. I say we should walk away, into the jungle, where the cover of the trees will hide us from aerial attack. Scout the island better, find out more, and attack at a time of our choosing. If the dragon wants to attack us in the night, then let her try."
"But I will stay with the group, no matter what. Our advantage is in being together. Separated, we can be picked off."
"Come friends, walk away. Maybe we can find the dragon's lair. Or gain some other advantage. I see no reason for us to fight here, on a battlefield created by the dragon to suit her own strengths."
"Away from this place, maybe the dragon will surprise us. Or maybe we will surprise her. If she could have defeated us in the dark in the jungle, she would have attacked last night. But she did not."
Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Tuesday December 2nd, 2008 5:16:05 PM
" Which shows at least some honor. Her strength lies in ambush. How easy would it have been to have assaulted us last night, with fresh rage at the death of her brood fueling her attacks? I say it showed supreme restraint to NOT attack last night, which makes her all the more dangerous. Let us finish it. Here. Now. She says there will be no rest for us should we walk away, and I believe her. Were we to walk away now, she would have free reign to attack us at our weakest, when we are separated, or worst still, while we are otherwise engaged. Imagine fighting a pack of the Slaad we have come to know so well, the ones that have come close to putting paid to our bill several times already. Imagine half of the group wandering aimlessly, after the Slaad utter another of their chaotic blasphemies and her walking among us, gleefully killing us one at a time, while the rest watch, nearly powerless to stop her with the group diminished. Fighting together, breath to bows or tooth to sword, I have no doubt of the outcome of the fight. I only lack the details of the cost we will pay before we see her dead. I say end it here, end it now, and pray that the repercussions that Domi said we would feel after removing the opposing Queen from the board are repercussions we can live with." A roar of dismay/DM Buzz Tuesday December 2nd, 2008 8:02:09 PM
Leave or stay? what a dilemma the group faces, for they have but one minute to walk away, break out the compensation fee, which is looking less and less likely, or join in her battle arena with or without her agreements. The groups minds vary on the course and it is disturbed as the angry roar is heard once again, but the cause of the source is unseen.
From somewhere above you, you hear the voice of the dragon, "What a pretty boat I have seen in the cove as I flew around my small island. It appears to be unmanned therefore unowned. I think it is a pretty compensation as I will capsize it and watch it sink it to the bottom of the sea if I don't see my money in that arena in another ten minutes. Then, I will leave you here while I find a new island and a new lair. A new domain. That is the final ultimatum and I will no longer consider us acquaintances, you will not gain my help further without I receive what is due to me for payment of your transgressions. I had hoped we could help each other, but it appears, your lacking in social manners when visiting others."
You do hear the voice move in a large circle above you as the words are slow and distinct, but the distance from you to the speaker would be hard to determine, due to an instant change in it's position from flying, but perhaps 200+ feet from the ground would not be inaccurate.
Apparently, the dragon does have concerns about the groups prowess, as she would rather see them swim then fight them, but then again, who knows what she will do, but use the group if she can. Does she actually have a problem the group can solve? Is there a key to the source of the problem she can help the group with? All is unknown except her ability to believe that she will remain safe if your not willing to face her on her own terms.
What happened to Bart/William? Did he leave the group?

Vauhwyt shrugs. She expected the boat to be destroyed. She is not surprised at that at all.
She does not think the dragon will leave the island, and she says so to the group. After all, the dragon has a hoard somewhere, surely. How could she transport the coins and gems of her hoard? With her claws?
She does not agree with Appolo when he says "we accept your terms." But she feels no need to correct him, either. She just expects to have to fight soon. She is sorry that a number of her spells are now wearing off. Mookie reverts to raven form. The acid resistances fizzle. "Say the word and I start making her a pincushion. She's not out of my range. After that let's find her layer and slaughter all dragons we find. She has a hoard on this island and wouldn't leave without it. First her rules take away our strength and now she changes them even more. If she sinks the boat, so be it. We won't be trapped here. Some of us can fly with magic. They can get to shore and get help. The rest of us will be able to survive for awhile here."
Apologies/DM Buzz Wednesday December 3rd, 2008 10:56:33 PM
OOC: Sorry guys, hurting a lot tonight and can't concentrate right now. I will get you a post in the morning with a 90% guarantee. I am having high and low tides as it were, dealing with my surgery and now I am completely off the narcotic meds, I can really feel the difference. I'm likely dealing with withdrawals as well, having been on them 5 weeks.
Thank you for the understanding, my posts will improve as I heal, so please don't feel I'm neglecting you on purpose.
I'm also trying to get a few battle rules correct, so that any battle will run smoother then if I try to work through any battle without the knowledge I need. It's hard to concentrate right now.
A silver speck/DM Buzz Thursday December 4th, 2008 11:23:00 AM
OOC: A clearing up of things. First off, going into the past, I noticed with the Commune spells a couple of mistakes Jamie might have misunderstood. If I missed something though, please let me know. The "Disc" is actually a Black Dragon scale you found in that hut near Acid Village after fighting the Sladds. If this is not the object in question, I missed where you picked it up and please give me a reference. So instead, the answer to the question. "Are the Black Dragons the cause of the Blight" The answer should have been. "Not the cause, but the solution."
Secondly, Jancasisus is the cause of the Blight, not the Black Dragons. It is a curse on the land due to some transgressions the citizens caused, which the original DM, Kent did not elaborate on, with me, so I will make up a reason myself, for you to figure out, if you desire, if it even matters.
Appolo standing on the large pile of brush with Val are the first to see a silver speck off to the east. It must be a far way off because as it approaches, it gets larger and larger. "Now the fun is spoiled" says the invisible Black Dragon right behind the two on the mound as it seems she was soon to attack the two, but with a whoosh only those two can feel and without attack, she flies over their heads in an unknown direction and is not heard from for awhile.
It takes around five minutes for the large creature from the east to actually be recognized and it is a gargantuan Silver Dragon that finally lands on the beach near the arena. It smiles at any that are near and greets them with a polite manner.
"I am called Xitalchintalical, but you may call me "Zill" if your mouths can not form such words. I have been sent by Pantheon whose ways I adore to this island and now I see why." The enormous creature which is way larger then the Black Dragon you have been dealing with shouts out, "Viscous" what trouble is present on your island"
From above, the invisible black shouts down in an angry tone as her fun is now apparently over, for now, "These, these trespassers have killed my brood and now want to do battle. So why are you here, we have an agreement!"
The Silver Dragon nods it's head in sadness, "I understand Viscous, but they are on a quest that must be performed."
A huge roar is heard much higher now as it appears she regains her altitude in the time it took "Zill" to arrive.
Xitalchintalical looks toward the group, in a general manner, taking in everyone that can be seen, "Tell me your side of the story and why have you come here? Who is your spokesperson?"

OOC Clarification before ic posts?
In my opinion u cant change the storyline if we had known thes answers maybe our actions could be different then we do now. Original Questions and answers 1.
A. Yes. So if im correct killing the dragon still solve the problem (due to answer to question 1)
My suggestion keep the answers as stated in the earlier post and change the module according to the these answers.
Dm Buzz: Actually William, I can and I have. I'm not changing the module due to a misunderstanding of a previous DM that was in a time crunch and didn't have time to read the archives or email Kent for explanations. Not only that, but nothing much has really changed, as if you look in past posts I mentioned, while missing the commune spell answers myself, that the dragons couldn't have caused such a problem and everyone knows Jancassius the "Acid Witch" is involved. Thank you though for your input and the situation is as it stands. Please feel free to post your characters actions according to the last DM post.

OOC: A quick mistake correction, "Viscous" can be seen high above two minutes before the Silver Dragon arrives. 300+ feet and looking very angry as she watches the approch of the Silver Dragon.
Aztyr (58/58 hp, 25 AC and Jynx (29 hp, 18 AC)) Thursday December 4th, 2008 3:33:09 PM
As the extreamly large Silver Dragon lands and speaks, Aztyr now understands the meaning of big in a whole new perspective. As Aztyr tries to pronounce Xitalchintalical four or five times, she gets frustraited and says, "Zill, our spokesman is Malgant." and she points towards the Minotaur. She continues to wonder just what is happening here...
OOC: about the disc, it was never told to us it was a Black Dragon Scale, although a few of us probably had figured it out already.
Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant Thursday December 4th, 2008 5:54:44 PM
OOC right As you might have noticed we lack finger wigglers in a big and hard way. Those we have are set up to do what they do effectively and not identify magic items( which is totally in character and not a problem, just pointing it out). That's why none of the stuff is identified and as far as I know none of us has any knowledge that allowed us to recognize the scale for what it was/is. Actually the Commune happened at least one, maybe way more than that posts before I was ready to cast it. I was asking the group for input and all of a sudden the spell was cast before half the group could respond, hence the way lower than all the number of questions I COULD have asked that were asked. Anyway, that's over with. I noticed that the answers were not matching the conversation but made the same assumption as William that killing the Black would bring the whole blight thing to a head and bring us face to face with the REAL culprit. Thus the not campaigning TOO hard to avoid he fight.
Now on to the more meaty problem I am faced with. What the hell do I tell Zill? I would be telling an agent of Pantheon the truth anyway, but what is the truth? Do I tell the silver that when I asked for some guidance I caught Domi at a bad time and he had just done some shrooms before telling me that the Black dragon was the cause and defeating her would end the blight . Thus I was ready to kill another dragon on top of the death of her brood, which I already feel was wrong? Or, do I apply the hot fix answer you supplied us with that I should be seeking the dragon as a solution to our problem, which makes us guilty as hell because we were about to kill her? Either way we are screwed.
Dm Buzz: I see your point, but not really screwed, the baby brood would have attacked you anyway and you would have defended yourself, if you had subdued them all, then, the Mother dragon is in some ways acting in her nature, greedy as Hades and looking for something from you in return for what she calls information, it would likely have been much less then if you hadn't killed her kids, but that is now in the past. Either way, it's going to cost you and you can't be blamed for defending yourselves. So, just tell the truth, they were nasty things that bit off more then they can chew and you hate evil and despise the fact you have to deal with this creature. You would have recognized the disc as a scale the minute you saw her, meaning she likely has been dealing with the Sladds also, which carry decent treasure.
Remember, you didn't cast the Commune spell until after the brood was killed, that is why it doesn't really matter. If you had cast the spell before, then your arguument would be sound and I would have changed the module.
Vorelle Thursday December 4th, 2008 6:01:23 PM
Vorelle hasn't been this confused since the last time she was Confused.
"N-n-not m-me," is all she says in response to the "who is your spokesman" question. And she says it in such a low voice that it is nearly impossible to hear.
