Malgant tells the Story

Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant
Thursday December 4th, 2008 7:54:53 PM

OOC
Alrighty then.

IC
" I generally speak for us if there is a need to negotiate Xitalchintalical." Malgant answers as soon as the Silver dragon asks for a spokesperson. He sheathes his sword as he turns to speak to the emissary of Pantheon. "My name is Malgant, and I am a Protector of Domi. My friends and I began having visions as we slept a couple of weeks ago. These visions always woke me and drew myself and my friends to Tears of the Woods Inn. We all arrived the same day, and as we had our evening meal and got to know one another the figurehead that resides in the Inn began to speak to us, asking if we were the ones. When we answered 'Yes' She launched into a prophecy in a voice that I am told was not her own." Rumaging through his pouch, Malgan pulls out a copy of the prophecy that he has written down, in case he needed to remember the details of the wording. " This is the prophecy she spoke to us....

When the water's on fire and death's at the door, look for the heroes called by bones and sword.

From Valley, and Dirt and Heart they roam.
By the number of three shall they truly be known.

Three women, six men and three of them Taurs, the wold shall tremble at Gargul's three's roar.

The call for good is never quite gone and always is present when evil is strong.

A call to the wood, will aid in their cause and rest will be welcome for feet and for paws.

Quenched by the fire and etched by water
Black is the problem and becomes the squatter.

Through darknesss and fire and water they pass. For storms shall sink those with much lighter mass.

The fiery skull will keep its faith and the sword once lost shall be put to the lathe.

Will heroes prevail it's still to be seen.
Failure is likely for those of weak mien.

That prophecy put us on the road the next morning, to visit a witch named Priscilla whos house roams the Blackbird forest. She did a divination for us and saw in it a family of Black dragons. Her interpretation of her divination was that we would need to find these dragons, and possibly overcome them. She suggested we travel to Acid to seek passage out into the lake. Once in Acid, we witnessed the effect that the Blight is having when a large number of dead animals washed down the river and washed up on the shore of the town. As the villagers removed the bodies they were set upon by two large Slaad. We defeated them, at the cost of the lives of two town children that the Slaad had been trying to carry off. a third child led us to a house outside of town where we were ambushed by another group of Slaad. Those Slaad had in their possession a disc hat we could no identify, until now. Seeing Viscous close up now I can tell you that the disc that they had is a Black dragon scale. After the children were laid to rest, we met a gnomish inventor in town that had a boat that he said could navigate the acid lake and that he had seen in a vision or some such that he was to build it for us to travel out into the lake. Traveling the lake looking for the Black dragons we were supposed to find we were set upon again by the Slaad and again defeated them. When we found this island we noticed tracks that led us to the acid pool where Viscious' brood lived. We tried to talk to them to find out how to stop the blight, but they instead attacked us. Not taking any chances. we killed them. Then Viscious issued her challenge to meet her here to settle the score for her brood. Once we arrived here she made us a deal, as she says, to either pay a tribute in place of her brood or to fight her. She gave us some time to decide what course to follow and when our time was near its end she declared that we would either pay her or she would scuttle out boat, trapping us on the island. Then you arrived." Malgant goes quiet at the end, waiting for Zill to make its decision.( is Zill male or female).

Vauhwyt (AC19, HP 100 of 85) and Mookie (AC15, HP 57 of 42)
Thursday December 4th, 2008 7:59:06 PM

Vauhwyt looks at the black scale that the group had the whole time. "Huh."

She comes to the realization that it WAS Jancassis who created this acidic blight. "Huh. ... Huh."

She ponders what Jancasis will think of her -- a devoted servant of Jancasis -- if she helps end the just revenge that the god has created.

"Huh."

She thinks that maybe she should not even be here. At all.

Vauhwyt decides the best thing she can do is go back to the boat. She says to the silver dragon, shouting to be heard, "Sorry! This has all been a big misunderstanding! My bad! Didn't mean to disturb you or the other dragon herre!" Her accent reveals her confusion and dismay. So does the tremble in her tail.

"Please accept our apologies! Do let's just let bygones be bygones! Better luck next time! So long! Thanks for everything!"

Mookie adds, very quietly, "So long and thanks for all the fish!"

Vauhwyt urges all the party to head for the boat and then home, please. Please.

Really, please.

"Zill" takes in the words of the spokesperson as others have other words.

Her response as she changes into a beautiful halfling, almost sylvan being, "I have been busy to long it seems." She responds to the spokes person as she relates the riddle.

In a kind voice, still loud for a small creature, "Come Viscous and join us."

The huge Black dragon dives into the water creating an enormous splash and soon comes to shore growling."

[Zill to Viscous] "Do you know what the prophesy means?

[Viscous to Zill] "Of course I do, only a fool couldn't figure this out" she blurts, then looks nervously at the now much diminished Zill.

[Zill to Viscous] "Please be kind enough to this fool to tell me what it means?" she asks looking up at Viscous with small fists on slim hips.

[Viscous to Zill]"The first is apparent and the last is for me to know, nothing is free in this life and I rather like the sport of the Acid Witch's minions, since the curse you bestowed upon me restricts my actions from long ago."

[Zill to Viscous]"You know, when I found out about your children, I would have done the same to them." Zill tells Viscous in soft tones of comfort.

[Viscous to Zill] "Nothing lives forever Xitalchintalical" Viscous replies, "and the curse will die with you."

[Zill to Viscous] "That is a while still Viscous." She replies harshly, "I could have killed you when you were a hatchling after I did in your mother, remember that! I also have broods of my own to keep an eye on things for me after I am gone, that is something else to remember and it is my life that keeps my eldest son from coming for you himself, so watch your tongue." The anger apparent in the small creatures features and with these words Viscous seems to be humbled a bit, no longer flaunting her arrogance.

[Viscous to Zill] "You to have lost broods and know how it fills, when the Ga'alians came some time ago and know how it hurts. They refuse compensation and refused honorable combat as the curse insists upon, so I have the right to eat them one by one."

With these words Zill looks toward the group and asks a few questions.
[Zill to viscous] "What was the compensation fee and was your "honorable"combat one on one, for of course they would be no match for you in that way."

[Viscous to Zill] "You know the curse would cause me pain if I did that, I challenged any that would step into the arena and others must stand outside the ring."

Zill looks out at the lined up trees that give a half sphere leading out into the water on each side.

[Zill to Viscous] "You know this blight, although fun for you now, will kill you food sources and other creatures that you prey upon eventually, it needs to end and they have been sent by Domi or other good gods to do so."

Viscous scoffs at the word of Domi but says no more about it.

[Zill to Viscous]"If I payed the compensation, will you cooperate?"

Viscous draws a large line in the sand with her large clawed feet and tilts her head to the side
[Viscous to Zill] "I suppose, but they started it!"

[Zill to viscous] "Very well, now cooperate and tell me what you know. You have had your ear to the land for some time now and are aware of more then myself."

Viscous finally comes forth with what she knows, "At the bottom of the lake is an alter, in the shape of a skull to the Acid Witch." I believe I have an item that, if placed on her alter will cause the blight to end."

[Zill to Viscous] "What would this item be" Zill seems to be regaining her calm and friendly demeanor."

[Viscous to Zill and party] "The only things you missed, I mean thing, you missed when you stole my mothers horde after you cursed me. A unicorn horn."

[Zill to Viscous]"What is your price for this item and are you sure this will work?"

[Viscous to Zill] "Much power resides in the horns, I mean horn and if it will not work, then the land is doomed and when the food runs out, I will move on somewhere else. I may be cursed, but I'm not bound to this island. I flew five thousand miles to mate and then to have these, trespassers have all that time wasted disturbs me greatly. My price, is for them to swear to their gods to never return to this island and to never attack me unless I attack them first, which I can not do, due to the curse."

[Zill to Viscous]"The lake is very deep, how would they get down there besides swimming?"

[Viscous to Zill] "You ask a lot Xitalchintalical, information normally does not come cheap, why don't you tie a rope to them and swim down with them yourself, if you all can hold your breath that long." She laughs.

[Zill to Viscous] "Stop playing, is there another way?"

Viscous looks at Zill with Disdain and remains quiet.

[Zill] "Fine, 500 more gold to the compensation and speak now before I lose my patience."

Viscous seems pleased with her negotiating skills and smiles, "indeed, they can enter the volcano and deal with some rivers of magma. There are some evil things down there as well that I can't reach and they can not come up because they are to large, A couple of them are also to large to get through the passages' She points to the taurs present, "but I have smelled them and sensed their alignment. It is unlike my own. but lawful." The last word she spits out as if it were dirty.

Zill shakes her head knowing Viscous does not have clerical abilities and looks toward the Black dragon.

[Viscous to Zill] "What? Your not the only one who needed to kill Ga'alians and I can use most any magic I find including their scrolls." she explains.

[Zill to Viscous and party] "Ok, here is the agreement. I will bring the party to my lair for this evening and return with them tomorrow, you will allow them access to your island until their mission is accomplished then you will allow them to leave in peace. None will attack another or I will become upset.

[Viscous to Zill and party] "If they do not return in two weeks after entering the volcano, I get to keep the boat, it is after all, in my cove.

[Zill to Viscous] "That will be decided if they do not succeed. Allow them as much time as they need.

Viscous snarls but says nothing.

[Zill to Viscous] "Do you agree to my terms?"

[Viscous to Zill] "Only because you are paying for their transgressions."

[Viscous to the party] "Do you agree to the terms?"

Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant
Friday December 5th, 2008 8:16:49 PM

" I may agree to terms, but there are a few things I would like to know first. You say you are bound by a curse, and from what I can gather from your conversation it keeps you from attacking some people unless they attack you first. I assume the Ga'alians attacked you and that allows you to attack hem, but you also mentioned killing the Slaad as sport. Are they not covered by the curse you suffer from or did they attack you as well? Also you mention that we refused combat. Our time was not up and for one I seem to be standing inside your arena. I think your wording is a bit broad on this subject, which makes me wonder about other phrases you use. You say that we should agree to never attack you unless you attack us first. I could agree to that, except that should you some how get the curse removed then decide to lay waste to a town or city I would be powerless to stop you. That I will not agree to. You also say we should never return to the island. I had no intention of coming here or disturbing you in the first place, until I was compelled by this quest to do so. I know not what lies in the future and may, for the good of the Wold, need to return to seek your counsel at a later date. That is not a duty I would shirk, so I would not swear to never return here. I would however swear to not set foot on your island unless I were to contact you first and receive your permission to do so. Is that acceptable to you? Finally you never answered Xitalchintalical's question about the unicorn horn. What do you require from us in order to obtain it? I would feel foolish to fight through a fire giant enclave to reach an altar empty handed."
As Malgant finishes his questions he notices Appolo's mood and tries to cheer him up. " Fear not Appolo. She said that we would need to pass through a gathering of fire giants to reach the altar. Lorth and I are unable to sneak and I doubt very much that they will just let us pass, so you will still have ample time to get yourself killed before this quest is over, so cheer up." He says the last with a smile. Despite the Black Dragon's wheedling wods and the wisted perspective that she paints for Zill, Malgant is still happier to have avoided this fight than to have faced the uncertainty of losing one of his friends fighting her.

Last words/DM Buzz
Saturday December 6th, 2008 12:17:09 PM

The huge black dragon looks down upon Malgant with disdain.

"Slaad are not of this world, exempt from the curse, as are celestials that dare come within my presence."

She then looks toward Zill, "If the time comes I begin to lay waste to towns and cities, you are the least of my concerns. I do not foresee this happening within your natural life span, but if you decide you want to fight still, after your so called quest is over, feel free to stick around instead of leaving and that will remove any and all restraints I have. My wrath will be upon you." She looks at Appolo specifically with an enormous smile. "Because then, you will have broke our agreement. As for asking my assistance in the future on any matter? Don't count upon it! You had your chance at civility."

Zill nods her head in an affirmative manner at her statements, "If this occurs, I wish to be no part of it. All I want is the quest completed before the ego of others and perhaps lust for treasure, by either party, impedes the land's healing process."

Viscous takes flight at this point, no longer concerned with questions and again turns invisible leaving one to wonder, which direction she travels. "I will return with a horn tomorrow morning at sunrise. If you are not here, it will be in the arena. I have had enough of this."

" A good point Lorth. Who or what triggered this blight and is it Jancasis's will that it be removed? I understand that alot of people are suffering because of it. Were all of them the ones that brought this blight into being. Should all of them be suffering it or just a select few? Also, why is it spreading?" As he asks these questions he looks to Xitalchintalical for answers.

Garden entrance/DM Buzz
Tuesday December 9th, 2008 11:35:27 AM

Zill allows the group to gather around her on the sand near the arena. She seems to study the area for a few minutes as the group talks.

Bart rhymes a good verse and she smiles.

Lorth asks a question of this blight and Malgant responds to Lorth and Zill. She responds, "I do not know what happened. I do not live in this region. I left late last night as I was studying when I received the call to assist you. Viscous would likely know, but I doubt she will share that with us now.

As Appolo mentions the taste of dragons, her face turns a bit sour, but she says nothing.

When Vorelle asks what they should do now, Zill responds, "If you do not wish to join me on my estate, you may stay here, but I think you will find the evening more comfortable with me."

Val makes a good point as to the blight and thinks it is possible it was an accident.

From out of a pouch, Zill pulls a small dark object of about four inches long, two inches wide and one inch thick. It appears to be made of stone and on the tip is a dark red ruby. She points it away from the group toward the water and pushes a small round object on the top of the device, a button and the ruby glows brightly. A red beam of light appears at this point, projecting away about twenty feet away and a symbol from the past appears in mid air. Knowledge: History DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: { An ancient Teluci device has created a symbol of transportation.}

The symbol soon disappears and a large hole replaces it. Through the large hole in mid air, you see a beautiful garden, with a large fountain in the middle and the rear of a large mansion. Zill tells the group, "My son Bardamion is a bit arrogant and may be suspicious of your visit, please be gracious with him and use what diplomacy skills you have and he will respond in kind." She continues to hold the device out and with her left hand, palm upward, motions for the group to step through. The taurs will need to duck a bit, as the hole is seven feet in diameter and anyone on a mount can duck also, or walk their steed through.

Once everyone is on the other side, she two walks through and the device is once again placed into a pouch and the hole disappears. Knowledge: Nature: DC 10 Highlight to display spoiler: { The smell of the ocean is now apparent and you are no longer near a fresh water body filled with acid. }
Zill looks to the group and says "Welcome to Cloudprance Mansion."

Malgant has absolutely no idea what the dragon is using (history check natural 1...getting them out of the way before combat 8)), but the portal appears and the is an inviting garden on the other side. At Zill's bidding he sheathes his sword, stows his shield and steps through the portal, crouching deeply to step through the hole that was apparently made for human passage. No longer does the smell of the acid taint the very air that he breathes. It has been only a little over a week of it, but it has been so constant that he had almost forgotten what clean air tasted like. He reaches down and takes Val's hand as they walk through the garden to wherever Zill tells them that they can rest as they await the trial tomorrow.

Champ decides the issue. With an excited Whuff!, he gallops through to explore. Vorelle has no choice but to follow. She instantly appreciates the difference in environment [Knowledge nature 31; what a waste of a 20!], and begins happily exploring the garden.

She will pass through the gate, with Lorth. She asks the dragon, or a servant or other person she sees, if there is a magic shop nearby, or a mage or cleric who knows magic. It would be good to finally identify these items, she explains, and she would also be grateful for the ability to buy a magic item or two.

Also, if there is a druid nearby, that would be a good thing to know, too.

That is mainly where the gods of testing have their temples and you may find trouble there. To the south is the port. It too is dangerous, especially at night, but many sailors hang out down there on leave. The Catacombs entrance is in the middle of the city, in the market place. That and the North side of town, where this estate is, are very safe. As for druids, they come and go at their own leisure, but I know of none that live nearby.

Malgant without knowledge of history does not know what type of device Zill is using, but steps through and feels relieved.

Aztyr complements Zill on her estate.

Vorelle worried at first about her friends, follows her best friend through.

Bart is inclined to learn more about the gods of testing, one specifically.

Lorth waits to be sure all of his party join the others before he too steps through.

Appolo apologizes to Zill for any insult she may have received. In her smaller form she reaches up and pats him gently on the shoulder. "Help heal the land, then get yourself killed." she adds with a friendly smile.

The garden

Fifty yards wide and one hundred yards long, her estate is walled to thirty feet in height. A cat walk is present and upon it you see elven archers patrolling. A few look over at your entrance and draw their bows, while alerting others, until they see their mistress. They quickly lower their arms and with a wave go back to watching the area.

Many plants are present and fruit trees as well, but bearing no fruit, since it is now out of season. The fountain is a substance like concrete, ten feet tall, with a spray up up to twenty feet, falling gently over edges lined with silver.

Off to the right side of the garden is a noticeable building, likely for the gardener of this fine residence.

Off to the left, attached to the house, you see a stables and a fine carriage, being washed by two elves and a human that bow to their mistress and employer.

The estate is three stories high and on top is a bell tower. A large "ding" is heard as you approach the building and meeting you at the back, double door entrance is a human of average height and looks wearing what would be considered formal wear. He approaches before she can reach the five steps leading to the square 10X10 doors, kneels on one knee and kisses her hand. "Praise Domi you once again return safely mistress. Are your guests the reason for your late departure last evening?" he asks.

Zill "Yes Beauford, please clear out the den and have plenty of mattresses brought down for my large guests and prepare rooms for the others. Prepare a brunch with a variety of foods and drinks for them to choose from as well. Where is Bardamion?

Beauford"His studies have kept him busy for days mistress, I...." his sentence is broken off by a large yell of joy from the upper rooms. In but a few seconds, you hear more yelling, "Mother, mother, I found it I found the...."

A large elf comes bounding down the stairs looking for Zill and comes to a complete stop at the bottom. The joy of the man leaves his face and a reserved nature soon replaces it. Straightening his garments, he comes over, leans down and kisses Zill on the cheek. "Mother, I didn't know we were having guests?"

Zill smiles at her son and replies, "Indeed, these are.." She looks to the party and back to her son, "Oh my, things happened so fast, I didn't get chance to get all of your names." she apologizes to all present.

Bardamion without a smile walks up to each individual. You can tells by his eyes, he is sizing up each and every one of you, just from your own past experiences. "Greetings, I am Bardamion, first in line to Cloudprance mansion and Defender of Abdares." he relates both his name and perhaps a title he has earned while offering a hand shake which is both firm and confident. He then turns to Zill, "Mother, we must speak, I have wonderful news."

Zill "I understand son, but give me an hour or two to brunch with our guests and I will be at your disposal. After all, what you have to tell me has been unknown for much longer then that, has it not?"

Bardamkon "Of course, you are right, where are my manners? Please excuse me while you all dine, I am not hungry at the moment, but I will see you all again at dinner, I hope." he bows his way out, and leaves going back up the stairs.

With a smile, she leads you all into the large dining hall, that is comfortable for all. "Do you prefer cotton or silk bed linens?" she asks the group.

Soon you smell a wonderful assortment of foods being prepared as pitchers of different juices, spiced wine and flagons of ale are brought forth. If any do not wish to partake, you may go to your rooms. If you prefer to head into town, those that are not of large size can borrow the carriage and a group of guards, that seem to wear their weapons and chain mail well.

Wednesday December 10th, 2008 11:41:59 PM

"My name is Malgant good sir. I am a Protector of Domi." Malgant says as he bows before Bardamion. "Your mother has offered to put us up for the night and we hope to uncover the truth behind a blight that we are supposed to lift in the morning. I am sorry if we are intruding on your studies. I think that we will most likely be about town for the day and thus will try not to take up too much of your mother's time, so that you may tell her all about you discovery."
Having heard Bart's desire to get to the bottom of the blight, what caused Jancassis to invoke it and why it is spreading, Malgant is relieved to hear that there is a temple to the goddess in town. He is disheartened to hear that there may be trouble if they venture towards that temple though. He will let the others take their rest at brunch and pose the idea to them once they are relaxed. Somehow he does not think that the possibility of landing in trouble will stop them from wanting to visit her temple though.

Vauhwyt (AC19, HP 100 of 85) and Mookie (AC15, HP 57 of 42)
Thursday December 11th, 2008 1:21:11 AM

Vauhwyt thanks the party's host, and then heads out of the estate -- declining the offer of guards. She heads for the east side of town, but gets there with a wandering route, so as to not be too obvious about it. Her goal is to find a community or temple or clerics of Jancassis. She introduces herself as an avenger, gives the secret handshake, and asks if a cleric here can cast a Commune spell. Or if she brought one, is there a cleric of Jancassis here who would read it for her?

She does not have enough cash, so she will have to sell or trade her ring of feather fall.

Also, can she find a caster to identify the arrows and the wand?

If she finds a decently high (level 7+) cleric of Jancassis, she will tell her story, and ask for advice.

Vauhwyt's commune question is : Would you be unhappy if my friends and I placed a unicorn horn on your altar under the water in Blackbird Lake in order to end this plague of acid.

Lorth walks to Bardamion, and extends his hand. He looks him straight in the eye and says, "I am pleased to make your acquaintance. I am Lorth Jeredosta, son of Kilath Jeredosta."

He then finds a quiet corner and removes his armor so that he can polish it.

Greetings Bardamion I am Albart Miller from Ailthmar in Aisuldur, former Pirate of Jack member of the Wildcards and offered the Dragon status

Zill i have some questions about are quest, do you know what dangers we have to face in the vulcano, and the alter where we have to bring the horn to is it a dry cave we can enter through the vulcano or do we still have to swim or breath underwater?

She finds a spot that's mostly out of the way and goes about doing an inventory of her gear and it's condition. She clean most of the grime off anything she finds it on, but doesn't go as far as Lorth and have to polish it. When food's offered she'll eat with the rest.

The group decides to split up and Vauhwyt leaves the estate on her own, to go into the city.

Zill could be of use in many matters, if approched on a topic and asked.

Those that eat find the meal delicious and a halfling comes out and introduces himself as Roundish Dimpleton, after the brunch is complete. He appears to be middle aged and wearing a crisp, clean apron over typical and fashionable garb.

The linens of your choice are prepared and a comfortable location is secured for all that want to turn in at such an early hour.

Those that attempt to clean their armor find the acid from their previous adventures on the large lake have taken their toll on appearences, but the quality hasn't changed and a sparkle after a few hours, begins to be seen.

The time now is roughly noon for those that stayed to eat.

Light Fortification, AC 28, 82/82hp Malgant
Thursday December 11th, 2008 5:49:30 PM

As the meal starts to draw to a close Malgant is saddened by the absence of Vauhwyt. Her input as an Avenger would have made this alot easier. He decides to approach the subject of the blight with Zill, and her son present, if the younger dragon has indeed stayed for the meal.
" What we really want to know I think, is why the blight was invoked by Jancassis and whether it has just grown out of control or if it was intended to sully this much of the Blackbird lake and surrounding area. Even as an adherant to the law I can not find it in me to allow the people of the area, and the wildlife and forest to continue to suffer unless they have made some unimaginable transgression. I intend to return tomorrow and see an end put to the blight unless I am provided with a really good, and I mean woldshatteringly good reason to not do so. Toward that end, Xitalchintalical do you or Bardamion have any way of finding out the reason that the blight was started? If not, I would assume that the local church of Jancassis would be able to shed some light on that, though I wish Vauhwyt had stayed with us so that she might help us find such a church and not stumble on the social aspects of asking for such information. Either way I would like to find out as much as possible before tomorrow. Also as Bart asked I too would be interested to know whether we will need to be able to breathe and act below water at the end of this crawl through the volcano. Judging by Viscous's description I may also need to pray for the ability to reduce myself and the other taur in the group, which will be a fair number of my prayers for the day. Lastly I would like to visit the Bastion of Domi in this place. I would like to seek the priests counsel there on a private matter. Also a trip to the Catacombs may be in order. I find that I do not have components for some of the more difficult prayers I may need to invoke before this is over. Prayers that I hope I never need to say. How does this list match up with the desires of the rest of you? Shall we all go around town together or will we be splitting up further?"
While Malgant waits for the rest of his friends to respond the halfling that appears to be responsible for the excellent meal that he has just enjoyed steps out from the kitchen and introduces himself. Malgant is quick to return the introduction and complement the halfling on the fine meal , thanking him for going to so much trouble on such short notice.

Vorelle and Champ
Thursday December 11th, 2008 11:40:11 PM

Vorelle holds off on giving her name until the omission is obvious--and uncomfortable. "V-V-V-V-V-Vorelle," she manages at last.

Her eyes widen at the bountiful repast, more food than a Grubber from Dirt City would see in a week or two. She tries a little of everything.

Champ, too, would like to try a little of everything, but Vorelle stops him. She feeds him scraps that seem safe for dogs--generally, things she can clearly identify as meat.

She expresses no preference about bed linens. She actually doesn't think she understood the question. Surely nobody sleeps on silk!

When she and Champ have eaten their fill, they set off to explore the grounds. Neither is especially interested in going to town, however.

Many things to do/DM Buzz
Friday December 12th, 2008 6:26:54 PM

Some of the group introduces themselves, but when Vauhwyt ignores the man, he asks her name. Vauhwyt needs a DC: 15 to Bluff an alias, if you desire. Appolo does not give his name, Bardamion goes out of his way to ask the roguish character. At this time, an Alias may be given, but a Bluff of DC: 20 must be overcome, for the lie to be unanswered by the imposing elven figure.

During brunch, the group asks Zill questions. She responds, "I have a few Commune scrolls I have saved for emergencies. I will use one this afternoon, after I have seen to my sons findings. If you have specific questions to phrase, please feel free to ask them, other then that, I will use my own judgement on what to ask. Keep in mind, this Commune spell will be to Pantheon, so it will be in the best interest of what is lawful more then what is right or good, but I can only assume, the communities around Blackbird Lake have transgressed on an agreement of some type, for Jancassis to be involved."

When asked to contact Valdor she responds, "I apologize but I do not know this Valdor, and because of that, I do not wish to intrude upon them with magic, but if one of you can use a minor scroll of Message, I will give you one to contact them yourself." she smiles, willing to help the group in whatever manner she can.

Others in the group may or may not dine on the delicious food and the head cook gives Champ is own bowl of medium well cooked venison and a huge leg bone for that evening to enjoy. When Roundinsh is complemented, he seems delighted by the adventurers response and asks for suggestions on what others may want for dinner. Indeed, if it is something quite plain, he feels disappointed that his skills are not further tested, but smiles and complies with the wishes of the guests.

In the house, for those that do not wish to go into town, there are small chapels to both Pantheon and Domi, which you may use, if you desire. In fact Beauford goes out of his way to assist the guests of Zill on any of their endeavors, even offering minor magic to help with cleaning armor and weapons.

Vorelle and others are allowed to go everywhere in the mansion and grounds, except for the third story of the house, where you see a large figure in plate mail standing in the stair well blocking further progress up. His race is unknown, but he could easily be a human or half orc from a land where things grow large. On the first floor is the game room, with a variety of entertainments. Here you see some off duty guards that wave hello and go back to their off time. You are of course welcome to join them. A smaller dining room for the guards and other workers to eat in. Two chapels, one to Pantheon and the other to Domi. Last of course the den where the taurs will be able to rest that evening, the main dining room and kitchen. The second floor is all bedrooms and those that are of medium size or smaller can stay in rooms which have open doors. Several rooms have closed and locked doors, for the various employees of the estate. Each room is eight feet by ten feet, with a comfortable bed, unmade until Beauford gets your request for linens, a dresser for spare clothes, and a magical lamp with a Continuos Light spell placed inside of a hooded and decorated lamp, so one can vary the degree of brightness they desire. Each floor has a large restroom where a person can take a bath or shower that is contained by a curtain and use private stalls for more personal business. Zill apologizes to her larger guests and has an outhouse set up for them in the back yard, which will be taken care of by the gardener and Beauford.

If the party feels uncomfortable with a group of guards, only one will be sent as a guide. The market place is only an hours walk or half an hour by coach or by taur normal movement.

The front yard of the estate is like wise walled as the back, but half the size in length. A smaller fountain sits in what is a smooth, cobble stone drive way that is lined with bushes. Knowledge Nature: DC 10
Highlight to display spoiler: { Rose bushes. You can only imagine their beauty when in season as the large bushes line the walls and drive way. It would also be painful if someone was to slip over the wall and fall straight down into the thorny bushes.}

At the front gate, two large persons in plate mail guard the entrance. Zill gives those that leave her estate a small token. One must hand the guards at the front gate the token upon entrance in order to return in that manner.

How you get along with Bardamion though will also effect something in the future, I don't want to go into right now. I will send you out an email this weekend, but since the entire group has the same sights as you do alone, until you get into the "bad part of town", I wanted to make the descriptions of the market place at the same times.

Memories of her youth flood back from the recesses of her mind. Only when she was so young has she seen such elven beauty. She wonders what her life would be like if she had any family left. Still she has no complaints. Performing Gargul's will is satisfying work though lately she's been wondering how ending this blight will be serving her god.

Sorry Walter, I didn't see your post for a bit. Do you introduce yourself to Bardamion or give an alias? If alias I need a Bluff DC 29 for you please.

Vauwhyt responds with a deep bow. "Thank you for your hospitality, sirr." Her accent reveals a little nervousness. "I am Vauwhyt, a Grim Avenger, and my sacred mission is to bring justice and closure to the dead." The liontaur's spiked shadow armor and the raven on her shoulder punctuate her words.

She grins. "Especially the restless dead."

Mookie sings in a harsh voice, "Who ya gonna call?" Vauhwyt blushes, grabs the bird, and stuffs him in his pouch. She steps back to let the next person introduce themself.

When Roundish asks for suggestions for the evening meal, Malgant thinks back to his past. The chef is obviously skilled and seems keen to show that skill to his guests, Malgant comes up with a dish he has had before, at the harvest festivals of his youth. " Roundish, if you would there is a dish prepared each year at the harvest festivals in my homeland. The grapes are harvested for the wine that the Taur are so adept at making and when the grapes have been crushed and the wines set aside to ferment, the pulp from the grapes is added to a mixture of ground meat and spices, and then rolled in grape leaves and steamed. The result is a mixture of sweet and spicy from the meat and grapes and bitter from the leaves. I was wondering if you could prepare this dish? It has been awhile since I have had it, and I don't know when I might be allowed to attend another harvest festival in my homeland. If you could prepare this I would be most grateful."

Malgant them turns his attention to the other facilities that their host has offered and asks if he might be excused to visit the temple to Domi and hopefully speak with the priest.

Monday December 15th, 2008 5:14:13 PM

By the way, Vauhwyt takes the time, since she has it to talk quietly to Mal, Lorth, and anyone else who is interested in her opinion, especially regarding the role of Jancassis in all this.

If this acid blight is pure vengeance, and if its rough justice is not yet complete, then maybe Jancassis would NOT wish it to end yet. If that is the case, Vauwhyt feels beholden to oppose any attempt to end it until its sacred purpose is complete.

But Vauwhyt hopes that closure and healing can occur with the placement of the unicorn horn as a sacrifice on the Dark Lady's underwater altar. Maybe that would satisfy vengeance, not thwart it.

"But frankly, these matters are far above my ignorant head. I hope to find a local priest of the Lady of Revenge and ask for a divination or Commune. Failing that, I hope to obtain a scroll of Commune or Divination or Contact Other Plane in order to ask the Lady myself about the best course of action. And failing that, I simply will hope that my own private meditations, sacrifice, and testing will let my own meager divination suffice to answer our need to know the Lady's will in this."

The entire group entroduces themselves to Bardamion before he excuses himself upstairs and the group can clean up or even get very far into the building. OOC: Still waiting on Val to respond, but unless he does not, we are moving on. When Appolo shows the many tattoos on his body, Bardamion takes the time to look them over, perhaps intrigued by a story written in such a manner. Then the man returns upstairs.

When Bart asks about the Dragon Consortium, she responds. "Not all dragons are members of the consortium, even as honourable as they are, we all have our own agenda. Please keep the fact that we are silver dragons a secret, there are very few people in this city that know we are here and if the word got out, we would have to relocate. That would make me very, very unhappy."

Back to Vauhwyt, "I will give you a scroll of Commune for you to contact Jancassis if you desire. You will still need to make a trip into town though if you wish to go shopping at the Catacombs or other stores."

"If you still desire a trip to the temple of Jancassis, I suggest you get going while there is still daylight. The danger is quadrupled once night falls, but if the Commune scroll is useful, you might not need to go at all."

"Vorelle has a point. When lightning ignites a forest, in time the forest grows back healthier than before. I fail to see what the poisoning of the land nor endangering the blackbird forest will accomplish. I'd like to think if a god is responsible that there is a larger plan. In this case I don't think I can believe that."

Vauhwyt (AC19, HP 100 of 85) and Mookie (AC15, HP 57 of 42)
Tuesday December 16th, 2008 7:43:07 AM

Vauhwyt sort of agrees. "Yeah, that stuff bothers me too. But I'm hoping the Dark Lady is both fair and just, even if a little rough sometimes. That's why I need to ask her some questions."

Vauhwyt accepts the commune scroll very gladly. She offers her ring of feather falling as a gift in return. "You have been so kind to us. Please, take a small token as a gesture of our appreciation."

The liontaur goes over what she knows about this spell. She casts Read Magic to understand it better. She knows that the spell lets "you contact your deity," so if Lorth could somehow read it, he would contact Gargul; if Malgant used it, he wold contact Domi. In order to contact Jancassis herself, the reader of the scroll has to honor the Dark Lady. "And the only one around here I know like that is me."

So she resolves to read it herself. The problem: Using it! She goes over what she knows.

"I need a 15 Wisdom, but I only have an 11. I could pretend with a UMD check of 30. My UMD, wearing Mookie's circlet, is a +16, so that's a little iffy. Better if I could get a friendly priest" -- she looks at Malgant -- "to cast Owl's Wisdom on me. Any volunteers?"

"My scroll-reading UMD check is a +15 due to my Decipher Script synergy bonus. Even then, I still need to roll a 14 to hit the DC29 check I need to use the scroll. Still, I can keep retrying if I fail, unless I roll a natural one. Odds are I'll roll a 14 long before I roll a 1, especially since I can use a hero point to reroll the first one that comes up."

Will anyone cast an Owl's Wisdom spell on Vauhwyt? In the morning, maybe?

Aztyr enjoys the light lunch meal, but keeps quiet when the cook asks if anyone wants something specific. She likes simple food, in fact her favorite is spit roasted deer.
She will spend the afternoon going over in her mind all that has happened since she left home, the long boat trip, the dreams and the rush accross the land to the Inn, and meeting these new friends....

" I can make you wiser in the morning . I think, since I have also recently cast the spell I may be able to coach you through the ceremony described in the scroll.( aid another...what skill would I use to Roll, Buzz? religion, UMD, Spellcraft? let me know.) I also think that there are some prayers that can be said on your behalf to allow you a better chance to succeed in reading the scroll. What we need to do in the mean time is come up with the questions to ask. I have some suggestions about what I want to know. However they are of little consequence other than the need to know whether I will be angering Jancassis to the point where she will be visiting this kind of vengeance on me for lifting the blight. That would be about the only case where I would stop and weigh the consequences. This blight is endangering a very large number of people, plants animals and entities. It needs to end. If Jancassis meant the blight to be this broad and far reaching then I think that a whole lot of people are deserving of some vengeance. I cannot fathom that many people being punished."

OOC: I haven't dealt with this before, but I will assume that if Vauhwyt needs an aid in reading the scroll without a higher wisdom, you would need a spellcraft check, but since she is the only worshipper of Jancassis, you can not assist in the scroll.

The group talks of the harm to land and beast that the blight has caused, while Zill goes upstairs and after about ten minutes returns to the group.

Zill hands Vauhwyt a potion of Owls Wisdom when she returns with the scroll. When handed a magical ring, she puts her small hand on the large one and declines, "Actually, if the group of you are willing to help us after your quest is complete the forty five thousand gold I will give Viscous and the magic today will be well repayed, but we will talk about that if or when you decide to return here." She smiles broadly at the group. "Keep in mind, any mission I send people on will not only be dangerous but also profitable for us all and in the common interest of good."

OOC
Will spells like Guidance and Prayer help out? Guidance is a competence bonus and Prayer a luck bonus so they should stack. If Vauhwyt wants to use the scroll now then i can only add the prayer bonus since I have it memorized today. If she waits until tomorrow I can pray for guidance as well. I rarely use the assist another deal so thats why I asked. Thanks for clearing that up ). I was also thinking about using imbue with spell ability, but sadly I could not imbue a 5th level spell to Vauhwyt, only 1st and 2nd level spells can be imbued.

OOC: Prayer and Guidance do stack and would help with a skill check, provided Vauhwyt does not already have an item that provides a luck or competence bonus, which I didn't see on the sheet.

Well it seems that dragon have thir own way to react to questions, the dont respond if you ask in my opinion they have their own agenda. I am not sure if want to follow theirs

OOC: She hasn't responded to your question about the volcano and alter because she hasn't done the Commune spell, she gave it to Vauhwyt, so ask Vauhwyt to ask these question.

Vauhwyt is grateful for the prayer. She mutter that she needs to get a wand of Guidance of her own.

After the prayer is cast, she tries to activate the scroll -- shooting for a DC29 at +16 ... a 24 on her first try. But that's okay ... she can retry so long as she does not roll a nat 1. Second check ... another 24.

Mookie caws, "Boss! Put the stress on the FOURTH syllable of the second word."

"Hush, Mookie," says Vauhwyt. "One, you don't know what you are talking about, and two, Aid another is not allowed with UMD." The rapid swish of the liontaur's tail shows that she is more nervous than her banter with the bird would imply.

Third try. A 23. Fourth try. A 36. She's in!

Questions to follow. Gotta get to work.

OOC in Barts opinion knowing that having knowledge about a unicorn horn that must be placed on a altar in a cave in the lake also means that u know how to get there

DM Buzz: That may be true, but Viscous gave you that information and Zill had to pay 5000 gold pieces to her for you to get that information, so what is the problem? If you are looking for me to just give you guys free information on what you need to do, you are mistaken. You're a powerful group that needs to figure some things out for yourselves. If all you want to do is fight and collect treasure, I can tell you, your not going to like my adventures, it involves thought, roleplaying and some effort on the part of the group as well as fighting and collecting treasure.

ooc: I was turned off by the brief peroid where DM's were shuffling in and out due to RL issues. I think the game stalled a bit with everything that happened. I'm hoping things will get better once we get back to things.

Thursday December 18th, 2008 3:48:45 PM

Vauhwyt poses the following questions to her patron god, the dark lady of vengeance:

"Lady, it's Vauhwyt, one of your Avengers. My friends and I were asked in dreams and omens to try to end the acid blight that is afflicting Blackbird Lake and Blackbird Forest. Two dragons have said they will help us do this by placing a unicorn's horn on your underwater altar in Blackbird Lake. Here are my questions:"

"Do you mind if we place the unicorn horn on your altar?"

-- If no: "Would doing so end the acid blight?"

-- If yes: "Is there some other way to end the blight?"

"Is there someone we should seek out who can tell us your will in these matters?

-- If yes: "What is this person's name?" and "Where can we seek this person out?"

-- if no: "Should we heed these omens and try to end the blight?" and "Do you prefer the blight to continue?"

"Do you mind if we work with these silver dragons?"

"Is there some other task that you think I should place first?"

-- if yes: "What hint can you give me to set me on the path you prefer?"

-- if no: "How can I best serve you, Lady?"

"This black dragon, Viscous, do you want us to kill her?"
