Olaf grimaces at the loud noise, then manages to dodge the fireball [Reflex 22, evasion for no damage]. Feeling suddenly faster, he transfers his bow to his off-hand [free action], and heads towards the dark naga to support Yanosh [move diagonal to R13 (50'), which stays out of the 3 square reach of the huge creature, then tumbles 1 square to T11 [total move of 65' < 70'], tumble check 18 vs DC 15]. On the way he pulls out his sickle [draw weapon during a move] and upon arrival, lays into the creature, hitting AC 28 for 7+4 cold damage.

OOC: sorry Ice and Snow storms up in the mountains making posting hard.

Vayine moves the rest of the way to the wall, making sure to have solid stone to his back, (but fails to evade the fireball) the drow hisses in pain as the fire burns his skin, he feels a burst of new strenght and speed from Tishe's spell. thinking where he will be most effective next

Perhaps Vayine's body absorbed the damaging magics, or maybe the rogue was just lucky. (Reflex=24, Evasion feat) Whatever the reason, Flea avoids injury from the fireball.

"They're evil" cries the bard, brandishing her holy short sword as she runs towards the naga (Q12) flanking it with Olaf! Unfortunately the magic that might make it hard for her enemies to strike her, thwarts her own attack on the large aberration. (Hit AC 19, Blinking=6 (fail))

Trellus barely pauses after seeing the fireball engulf his companions. Deciding to return the favour, the cleric flies in closer and casts a spell upon the yuan-ti and the huge skeletal snake. He is satisfied to see the snake take the full force of the spell but the yuan-ti avoids any damage from the spell.
DM Note -- I rolled caster level check vs. spell resistance

Tishe casts a spell to improve her companions' ability in combat after avoiding any damage from that fireball.

Yanosh moves around the skeletons and towards the naga. With the extra speed provided by Tishe' spell, the dwarf is able to reach the naga and attack. Yanosh has the satisfaction of seeing his axe sink into the flesh of the naga.

Gilan begins casting a spell to summon a creature to assist his companions.

Olaf escapes the fireball and makes his way to beside the naga. His axe slices into the body of the evil creature.

Grymash is singed and that triggers his rage. Screaming something in orcish, the half-orc charges at the skeletal giant constrictor. The undead creature attacks once as Grymash closes with it but misses.

Vayine steps to the wall, wondering what to do after being burned so badly.

Flea charges the the naga but her own magics prevent her from hitting it.

The yuan-ti draws a rod from it's belt, then stares at Yanosh.

The naga moves back 5 feet from the three people attacking it. It casts a spell and seems to jump sideways.

The giant constrictor attacks Grymash, striking the half-orc squarely and sorely wounding him. Fortunately, the skeletal creature cannot grab and constrict Grymash.

Gilan moves away as his summoning comes into being. His mind is already racing with his next action and with some delight he begins another spell. To feel the power of Mother and Father flowing through him is addictive...though not as much as wearing the form of another creature.

The sixteen foot tall earth elemental pulls itself out of the ground, near the yaunti. Large fists follow before it as it tries to smash the life out of the closest enemy of his summoner.

[ooc: I'm travelling, so I won't get to post later today. I want to wait for Yanosh or Flea to engage the Dark Naga, then perform the following, i.e., while flanking.]

Olaf aims to follow the creature, tumbling to T10, then diagonally to R8, the westward to Q8 (25', 21 vs DC 15). Seeing the spell, he realizes what was cast [23 vs DC 18], and curses softly, "displacement. Pshaw." Then he slashes at the creature again, looking for weak spots. [95 vs 50% miss chance, hit AC 31, 6 + 5 cold + 9 sneak attack damage = 20 damage]

Noting his singed packmates, the cleric goes into healing mode, and casts a spell to bring relief to a few of them. "This'd be easier if you dudes didn't spread out so much," he whines.

Tishe' also notices the Naga having a Displacement spell on (Spellcraft:28), though she hardly needed to figure it out herself with the help of her packmates. "Let's see if I can't help that a little", she calls and then targets a Dispel Magic against the snake-woman.

Targeted Dispel: all spells on one person (ie Naga) dispelled. (ooc: I rolled three times in case the Naga had more than one spell on) (1st: 9 Hero Point reroll 26; 2nd: 20; 3rd: 20)

Grymash decides that finesse may be better in this combat. The deciding factor that made Grymash come to this conclusion? He no longer has the fury inside of him. He's spent. Though he is plenty mad!

Flea sees the sudden shift of the Naga, but her own familiarity with illusions prevents the creature from escaping her blade. Hasted and blinking, the rogue steps forward, bobbing and weaving and repeatedy stabbing and slashing with her tiny blade. The naga has little hope of escaping all of her strikes.

[First Hit AC 17 for 6hp + 11 hp if evil + 12 hp sneak attack because she is blinking and the Naga loses it's dex bonus = total of 29 HP; 20% miss chance passed w/ 65, 50% from displacement passed w/ 82]

Gilan completes his spell and calls an elemental from the rock of the floor. The elemental follows the shifter's commands but cannot attack the yuan-ti. In fact, it can't even get close to the snake-creature.

Trellus was going to cast a healing spell over an area in front of him, affecting three of his companions. Unfortunately, he only has the spell granted to him by his Protection domain and he is unable to convert that into a curing spell. He still descends to the ground.
DM Note -- Domain spells cannot be used for Spontaneous Casting of Cure spell. Spell isn't expended but movement did occur.

Tishe' recognizes the spell cast by the naga and acts to remove it. The theurge casts a spell, willing it to succeed and strip the protective magic from the naga. As soon as she casts, the naga seems to 'snap' back to where it was standing before.

Grymash calms down and swings with calculated deliberation at the skeletal giant constrictor snake. His second swing destroys the huge undead even though the orc axe isn't doing full damage. The remaining swings are directed at the smaller skeletal snake and do not do enough damage to destroy it.

Vayine moves to attack the nearest undead. His sword slams into the skeletal constrictor snake, damaging it severely. Unfortunately, because the drow moved before attacking, he only managed to swing once.

Flea moves slightly and stabs the naga with her sword. The wound drops the naga to the floor.

Olaf waited for Flea to move before acting. Since Flea dropped the naga, Olaf doesn't move.

Yanosh easily withstands whatever the yuan-ti tried to do. The dwarf slashes at the skeletal snake beside him, dropping it with two swings.

The yuan-ti completes the motions of a spell and suddenly doubles in size, looming high over the Bloodpack. Then it slithers away from most of the Bloodpack, shrugging a shield into place as it does.

The remaining undead attacks and misses Grymash.

Grinning, Tishe' is elated to see the naga go down, and she turns her attention on the advancing Yaun-Ti (Spellcraft 21, 15). Recognizing at least the one spell that caused the enlargement, she warns her companions; "It's a clerical caster with Righteous Might!"

"Looks like you like magical enhancements, too", she tells the abomination, and her Pearl of Power glows as its magics allow the theruge to recall a spell.

Then, another targeted Dispel Magic leaves Tishe's hands, and her voice directs it to strip all magical enhancements from the yuan-ti. (Dispel Magic: 17, 15, 27) (ooc: rolled three times in case of three spells)

Gilan finishes the second of a set of summoning spells and then moves slightly to be behind the yaun-ti. Without a second thought he will drop down behind it, his form rippling and shifting as he does. What will land by the yaun-ti is a 10000 pound large angry worm. He lets out a roar as both he and his large earth elementals converge on the no large foe.

Trellus pauses for a moment before figuring out why he couldn't cast his healing spell.
"Hmm", he comments to himself.

Looking up, the cleric discovers that his packmates have removed the need for immediate healing by removing most of the treadles. Seeing who's left, the blond man decides to clean up Tishe's leftovers. He follows up her dispel with one of his own.

I'm seeing that real life is hitting a lot of people just now. Also, the end of the year is a historical Woldian slow-down.

So if the Powers that Be agree, we could put the game on snooze and have people come back with recharged batteries?

Flea feels a fleeting sense of power when the naga drops at her feet, but it quickly fades when the yuan-ti enlarges to twice it's normal size, dwarfing the diminuitive gnome in the process. She decides to launch a ranged attack from her current position of safety. Flea drops the blinking from her ring, withdraws her wand from her belt and aims it at the now huge snake creature. Four balls of energy magic missile speed towards her target. [UMD=20, Dmg=13]

Tishe casts her spell, hoping to remove some of the magical enhancements used by the yuan-ti. She sees no effect from her spell since the yuan-ti is still huge. It remains to be seen whether the summoned creatures can attack it.

Gilan completes his spell and another summoned creature appears to attack the yuan-ti. The shifter commands both elementals to attack the yuan-ti. Both move to do so but cannot approach closer than 10 feet to the huge opponent. Gilan himself moves and drops close to the yuan-ti, shifting into his preferred combat form as he falls to the ground.

The yuan-ti takes the opportunity to smash Gilan with the rod, landing a blow that would have nearly killed the shifter had Gilan remained in the lizard shape.
Yuan-ti -- hits Gilan with rod, AC 41, 24 damage

DM Note -- Please note that Trellus' casting of Mass Cure Light Wounds did not occur. Gilan was down 29 hps and only 10 would have been healed by shifting. That would put him at 85/128 hps after this damage. In the absence of anything specific about carrying damage between forms, I prefer to count "lost hit points" against the max total for the current form.

Trellus ponders for a moment before casting his own Dispel Magic spell. He has the satisfaction of seeing the yuan-ti shrink in size.

Yanosh charges towards the yuan-ti, allowing the yuan-ti a free swing of the rod. The yuan-ti lands a solid blow before Yanosh can get close enough to attack. The dwarf's attack misses the yuan-ti.
Yuan-ti -- hits Yanosh, AC 28, 14 damage
DM Note -- Haste only doubles Yanosh' speed to 40 ft because his base speed is 20 ft.

Olaf dashes across the floor, tumbling the last bit in order to get close enough to attack the yuan-ti after it was shrunk. His axe slices into the snake-creature's body.

Grymash destroys the remaining undead snake.

Flea decides to keep away from the imposing bulk of the snake-creature. The gnome draws a wand and triggers it, sending four magical missiles at the yuan-ti. The missiles fade into nothing without harming the yuan-ti.

Vayine watches and waits.

The yuan-ti hisses a sibilant word and the head of the rod animates, flaring into the hood of a cobra that hisses at the members of the Bloodpack. The yuan-ti then steps back against the wall of the chamber, brought to bay by the Bloodpack. Mind you, it has moved so that Yanosh and Olaf stand between it and Gilan or Grymash.

"Looks like magic picks don't work too good," he remarks conversationally. "Guess we're gonna have to use axes and swords and bows and teeth."
The blond man steps over toward Gilan, pulling out a wand as he moves. Arriving at the worm, he taps it with the healing wand.

"Shady", responds Tishe' to Trellus' suggestion and moves forward to stand beside the cleric. "Give me a curing wand and I'll start doing that." She gives a sheepish grin that doesn't look very good in the heat of battle. "I used my last healing wand up a couple months ago and forgot to purchase another one!"

Thoughts rip through Tishe' as she tries to think of what she can do to immediately assist. The mystic does have one option for immediate healing, the Tear of the Dragon in her breast! Yet the only ones she can heal with that mystic gem are Grymash and Vayine, for Yanosh and Olaf do not have the Gem, and Trellus, Flea, and Gilan's Tears have been turned off by Gargul himself. Regretfully, Tishe' does not utilize the Tear... yet.

Instead she touches Grymash on the arm saying, "receive the blessing of Ma'ab in the form of quickness", and Casts Cat's Grace on the half-orc. ooc: Grymash gets +4 Dex

Tishe' then prepares to take any healing wand offered by Trellus.

Gilan shifts his now large bulk slightly so that he stays within reach of the yaun-ti. He is glad that this form has some reach as it allows the others to work around him as he attacks as well. His large head makes a grab at the yaun-ti, teeth trying to find a hold to grapple with the thing.

The two earth elementals slip into the floor and move their way towards the yaun-ti as well, though they do not come in for an attack as they have not been able to get that close.

Trellus moves forward, removing a wand as he does so. Once he is standing behind Gilan, the human cleric heals the remorhaz.

Tishe' moves forward to cast a spell to aid Grymash.

Yanosh steps closer to attack the yuan-ti. His axe cannot defeat the armor and other protections of the snake-creature.

Olaf moves around the yuan-ti in order to flank it. Despite all his expertise, though, his attack misses the creature.

Gilan steps closer to attack the yuan-ti. His first attack barely hits the creature while his second isn't close. Despite sorely wounding the creature, Gilan isn't able to grab and hold on.
DM Note -- Applied the flanking bonus in order to land a hit. The yuan-ti Grapple DC exceeds the Grapple attack rolled by Gilan.

Vayine rushes in to attack the yuan-ti, allowing it to attack. The rod swings down from above and the fanged cobra head hits Vayine. Besides the crushing damage, the cobra head pumps a dangerous venom into Vayine. Hopefully his drow heritage will help him.

The yaun-ti decides to ignore him as he attacks and it kind of annoys the large worm. This throws off his first attack and his teeth snag nothing but air, but his second attack is on the mark and bites deep. He once again tries to bring the yaun-ti under his control by grappling with it.

The elementals continue to mill around as they have nothing to really do.

Flea takes in the chaos of the battle and concludes that once again she must get inside her enemies guard if she is to help her companions. She activates her boots and darts behind the Yuam-ti, tumbling the last 10 feet to avoid the serpents wrath.

"Keep ripping it, Gry!" he calls out. "I'm just gonna weave a healing pick or two on ya!"
Trellus taps the half-orc with his wand.

Olaf steps aside and swings at the yuan-ti but cannot hit the snake creature.

Yanosh moves over to make room for Grymash and Gilan. He swings as well but cannot hit the snake creature.

Tishe' reaches out for a wand.

The magic of the spell cast earlier by Tishe' allows Gilan to attack twice. His first attack goes wide but the second squarely hits the yuan-ti. The jaws of the remorhaz form that the shifter is currently wearing lock onto the yuan-ti.

With the yuan-ti temporarily immobilized, Grymash rips into it. Two of his attacks land and damage the opponent. The wounds stay open, too, and this blood loss is enough to weaken the yuan-ti so that it slumps to the ground. As it falls, the yuan-ti shouts at the Bloodpack, "The Kingdom of Chan'si will not submit! Tell your northern god that we reject his dominion!"

Flea dances closer to the yuan-ti's unconscious form.

Trellus shouts encouragement to Grymash as he casts a healing spell upon the half-orc.

Vayine is waiting to see whether the poison from the rod will kill him.

The yuan-ti is unconscious. The Bloodpack can either eliminate this threat or revive it for further questioning.

Moving over to the yuan-ti, Flea grabs at the head and lifts it, exposing the throat. Pressing her holy short sword to the flesh, she looks to her pack mates, and finally fixes her eyes on Trellus.

With the fight over and fatigue starting to set in on the tiring druid, he slips back into his human form. He wobbles slightly as he glances to the two elementals that appear near him. "You have done well my friends...seek you rest." With a slight bow he lets them go back to their own plane and then he turns back to the matters at hand.

He is still slightly shaking and though he knows it is only from fatigue, having been shifting and channeling spell power quite often today...he knows that he cannot give into his bodies desires. "I hate to say it...but we will have few options." He does not want to kill the now helpless yaun-ti but he also is wise enough to know the problems and danger that she represents. Still it is not his place to make a decision.

Trellus hesistates as the snake creature calls out.
'Reject the dominion of our northern god?' he wonders aloud. "What does that mean?"

The blond man rubs the back of his neck as he glances around at the fallen creatures and his packmates, searching for an answer to Flea's question. He sighs, and his features harden.

"It's gonna be more trouble than its worth," he decides. "And any treadle weaving with the undead needs to answer to One Eye sooner or later."
He nods at Flea.
"Do it."

"Lets make sure of this Flea. Step back." Raising his axe over his head Yanosh proclaims to all who can hear. "For your crimes against the God of Life and Death and the perversions you brought before him. I Yanosh Ironfist Eye of Gargul send you to stand before him and be Judged." With a powerful sweep of his War Axe Yanosh sends the snake-b%$#* to see his God.

Realizing the seriousness of the potential wound, he rushes over to apply what aid he can. "Anyone able to 'elp 'im? I'm thinkin' this might need more than a bit o' bandage..."

Not to be outdone, Grymash gives Yanosh a look and then he turns his gaze back down on the treadle and says, "YEAH!! Whut he say," before delivering his own killing blow!!

Seeing the battle is over, Tishe' is content to watch the episode unfold, yet her brown eyes are clouded as she ponders yet more riddles. "Kingdom of Chancie? Perhaps another portal. But which northern god is trying to take over a kingdom of snake-taurs?"

The Bloodpack stand over their fallen opponent as they briefly debate what to do with the yuan-ti. While Flea stands ready, Yanosh acts upon the words of Trellus and slices the yuan-ti's throat. The remaining members of the Bloodpack gather around as the thick, dark blood pools upon the stone floor of the portal chamber. Everyone except Grymash who releases some of his pent fury upon the limp body.

Gilan shifts back to human form to speak with his companions, observing the death of the yuan-ti without any expression. Tishe' does the same, relieved that the combat is over. Olaf moves to tend to the oozing wounds suffered by Vayine. The votary cleric recognizes that something will need to be done about the venom injected by the weapon used by the yuan-ti.

Several questions now face the Bloodpack even as they eye the fallen bodies of their opponents.

What should they do with the portal here, if anything? And what to do for their injured companions? Should they stay or should they go back to the central chamber to see if anything new can be learned?

More importantly, exactly what did the yuan-ti mean by it's final words?

Gilan turns to regard the remains of the creatures they just battled and shrugs his weary shoulders. The killing of the yaun-ti bothered him a little but they could not keep her alive to question as she was just too powerful for that. Only little slip and they could have lost her for good and given their enemy another weapon back.

Glancing to Trellus he gives a wane smile. "There is little more that I can do this day. My abilities are running out and I am not sure how much strength left." He shivers slightly as the fatigue sets in further and he hopes that others will take the time to see what might be found on the bodies...or body. "We may need to call this one a day." Still he will use what little power he has left as Trellus decides, but he is not sure how much further any of them can go.

As he speaks, the cleric strides over to Vayine, pulling a new wand out of his HHHaversack in the process. Reaching the drow, the cleric taps him with both wands, one after the other.

"i'll be fine." the Dwarven Cleric states as he bats out a smoldering patch in his goatee. seeing that Vayine is taken care of Yanosh casts Cure serious wounds on himself.

Cure serious wounds 13 hps healed.

The rogue does not add any further damage to the corpse after the followers of the grey-eyed god of life-and-death have finished it off. Instead, she cautiously rifles about the garments and such clothing as the creature wears in search of treasure.

Keeping to her task, Flea wonders aloud, "back when I was young an' foolish, I hung around with a crowd of pranksters." The gnome flushes a bit, embarrassed by some of the memories. "Mostly it was harmless stuff, bt once," her brow wrinkles as she concentrates to bring back the memories, "once a dark stranger joined us. When we found a dead cat in the alley, he did some magic, 'xplaining he could talk with dead things, an' the cat it up an' made like it was meowing to the stranger."

Flea shudders at the remembrance. "Do we have any magics that can make dead folk talk? Maybe the creature can tell us more 'bout what it knows?"

The Bloodpack busy themselves in the portal chamber. While Tishe' examines the room, Trellus and Gilan determine that retreat is perhaps the best option since they have depleted their magical resources. Meanwhile, Flea is examining the bodies of their opponents and removing anything that seems to be of value.

Tishe's examination of the chamber finds that it is very similar to the one where they arrived from Oddholme. The mechanism is similar, except that there really isn't anything. Like the first, Tishe' concludes that she would simply need to craft a token to allow passage. Like before, the token would require cosmological knowledge and information about the wearer and the intended destination. When she mentions this, Flea holds up a pair of tokens that the gnome has found on the corpses of the yuan-ti and the naga.

While this is going on, Trellus casts a curing spell on Vayine and Yanosh heals himself. Before doing anything else, Trellus inquires whether anyone else requires healing magics but gets no responses.

DM Note - Waiting to here back from Tony about playing Vayine ... otherwise, I'll roll for the initial CON damage from the poison.

Flea's examination of the bodies finds several items of interest, mainly on the yuan-ti. Besides the rod, which has now returned to an inert form, there is a shield, a ring and trinkets plus a pouch that the apprentice bard recognizes as a spell component pouch. Inside, Flea finds some of the materials commonly used by clerics for spellcasting.
