Powers Arise
Star Mages Guild Destruction Aftermath

Posting Report for Children of Chaos - (DM SteveK)
Wednesday February 4th, 2009 10:39:32 PM

Rash takes a piece of the artifact and stows it away for later destruction. Poking around for more pieces and anything else interesting, Rash can't really find anything. Then, seh announces she needs a bath, a meal and a drink... maybe some rooms? A place to talk about Dar.

Angus asks for Archimedes' bona fides and his interest in the training to be an Archmage. "My lad", is the old wizard's reply, "if you have the power, I have the knowledge. And all I would look for is that power to be intelligently used." He looks around at the rubble in what used to be the Star Mage Square and laughs. "I think that is no trouble!" Angus asks about the tattoos.

Xenia assists Rash in looking through the rubble, but also finds nothing of interest. Looks like most of the magical items have either been drained or spontaneously released in the great explosion. And her hand itches, yes it does...

Kazak smiles and congratulates Jurgan's speaking abilities. He explains about the Broken Spiral tattoos, and asks Peerimus about cooperation with the local authorities. Kazak too can' t find anything that would be useful for pawning or use.

Peerimus is able to get to the scene of the ruined tower and his companions. On arrival at the Star Mage Square, the druid is struck by a very, very real image.... The tower looks exactly like he remembers from his dream in the Adversaries lair!

Jurgen speculates about the Hook City Council, the guards, and the Star Mages Guild.

Firn'gaer suggests that Master Archimedes and Randall handle the council and for the CoC to support if needed. He also suggests that they take themselves away from Hook City for a while.

Durgan and Trace remain silent, thoughts wondering about the recent fight or the repercussions flitting behind thier eyes.
...........................

Soon enough, the authorities are here. Swarms of nieghborhood guardians show up to assist in the control of the people and to hustle them to thier own areas of the city. City Guards and City Officers also arrive by foot, horse, carpet, flying, and teleportation. Several of these take Master Archimedies and Randall's attention. Before being swarmed over, Archimides promises to send some compensation to the CoC's warehouse headquarters in Hook City.

Soon enough, the Children of Chaos is left with facing a dozen warriors in gleaming silvered armor and one gnome in a silver shirt and checkered orange-and-red pants.

"Protectors 823, aka Children of Chaos, I am Blintz Mugglietoes, third Prefect of South Hook. Until a proper investigation is completed in the destruction of property in Hook City, I respectfully ask you as a group to return to your abode in Labortown, Block 452. In the next few days, I will ensure clerks will be meeting with you for statements and to provide all legal advice and administrative paperwork is provided to your Protector Group. You may move freely throughout your legal Block without repercussions from the Hook City Council." He looks slightly harried, but also full of the normal gnomish cheer, and cracks a smile. "Not that we can really do anything about opposing you if folks as powerful as you choose to leave," he chortles in good humor, "but we'd then be forced to bar you from the city and confiscate your assets."

"Would you be interested in cooperating?" The last question is phrased with genuine interest, as if Blintz may have some money riding on the answer.

Those with Arcane Sight Highlight to display spoiler: { Blintz and all the guards are loaded with multiple active Abjuration and Transformation spells. }

Local Knowledge DC10 of those who have been to Hook City before Highlight to display spoiler: { Block 452 has access to the Catacombs and many other store/shop/restaraunt fronts. The 3rd Prefect is also a rather important figure in Hook City, and most surely has access to the most powerful of mortal spells.}

Rash looks at the others, thinks of home and sighs realizing she won't be able to travel home for at least a few days. She misses her family but also understands duty and says, "Prefect Mugglietoes I can only speak for myself but I am willing to stay for a few days to help clear this matter up. I hope we have access to some shopping, I am new to the Children and haven't been to Hook City in years but do fondly remember the nice shops and restaurants.

She looks to the others and asks, "I hope you guys will allow me to stay at your place. Doesn't sound like I am going to get to much freedom of movement. Shall we get a move on and get all of this gore off. I hate getting Lich dust on me. It feels so creepy."

OOC Steve, I am hoping you give us some experience points. Rash is still stuck at 1 point over 15th level and wants to make some scrolls.

Trace (104/104 hp) (ac 29) barkskin, cats grace, haste, flying, resist energy electricty
Thursday February 5th, 2009 12:45:55 AM

Trace looks to Peerimus and hopes he is not speaking out of terms, "We will assist you in this matter and stay in our area and give such needed statements but do not drag this out, I know how this city loves to choke itself on procedures and paperwork. As long as due process is done in a efficent manner you should have not problem with us. A few days off without killing should be a welcome brake." Trace ruffles yorrick's fur and then makes his way for home. Once money is delivered he can combine it with the last take and maybe make some improvemnets on armor class. Privetly Trace is ready to get back to the woods and Hernamar, city life is good for only a visit. Trace also advises the others not to visit the catacombs while in Hook City, if they take any magic out that they did not bring in there will be a heavy tax on it.

Peerimus stands in a bit of future shock for a moment or two, staring at the husk of the tower. His hand absently rubs Yorrick and then he blinks the trance away and pulls his focus to the present. He strides over to the group and Peerimus nods to Firngaer, "I believe I know of where you speak and agree." Peerimus steps slightly forward to address the gnome after Trace. He gives a slight smile as Trace speaks of a few days off without Killing, but says nothing. "Prefect,." he addresses the gnome, "I am Peerimus and leader of Protector 823. We will remain for a few days and will be at the disposal of Hook City to any compacity that we are able.
However we require to address a very pressing matter that will remove one or two of us from Hook City for an hour or so tomorrow. It is in the interest of the city's safety that we attend to this final matter and your cooperation is apprciated." Peerimus ends with a nod and then gathers the group to head back to LaborTown and the wharehouse and shop located there.

Xenia (AC27, HP86/86)
Thursday February 5th, 2009 9:29:18 AM

"Nice clothes." The rogue's voice comes a little louder than expected from within the muffling blanket of deafness. It's kind of hard to suppress a smirky little smile in the face of red and orange checkered pants. Even more so when surmounted by a silver (yup, that's right, SILVER!) shirt. Good thing she's invisible.

Oops. The ground comes up gently and settles under Xenia's feet as the Fly magic wears off, and a casual look down reveals the sight of her legs, her arms and the rest of her body.

When did that happen?

"Um. Hi. I'm Xenia." Again the signature hand wave. "I guess I'm with these guys. Nice clothes. Really. Um. Did she say shopping? I'd like to go shopping. I love shopping. heh. Gonna need a big box. And a bowl for water. Maybe some dirt and grass. Little plants and stuff."

"Hey." Xenia rubs her hand again. "Did anyone else get hit with some weerd wizardy chem stuff? I tell you, this better not stain. I like these gloves."

The dark rogue reaches down to take off her glove.

Angus AC 27 (31 Holy Aura) HP 66/66
Thursday February 5th, 2009 9:50:39 AM

Angus nods to Archemides "I will look you up so we can have some magical discussions. I am looking to beable to shape magical energy. Where will you be staying now that the Star mage Guild is destroyed?

When the gnome and Xenia speak, Angus comes back to the taks at hand "Xenia, we need a place to stay. Do you have lodging already? I had just come to Hook City and had not made any arrangements yet."

Angus looks to Jurgen "Dinner sounds like a good time for a long story as long as the wine holds up. Do you know of a house or such that Xenia and I can rent while we stay in Hook City?"

Jurgen [OOC]  d20+22=42 ;
Thursday February 5th, 2009 12:17:40 PM

"We, of course, will follow your orders Master Blintz." Jurgen says with a nod, unable to bring himself to call the man 'Mugglietoes'. "We do, with your permission, ask for two hours leeway, so that an instrument of great temptation and evil may be removed from Hook City." He acts as a back-up to Peerimus, attempting to aid the druid's diplomacy [Diplomacy Check - d20+22=42 - I roll a natural 20 on an Aid Another check? Really? Siiigh].

"Well, if you will be joining us you need not look to finding a house. One of the perks of our Protector-hood is a warehouse which we are converting into a home." Jurgen points vaguely in the direction of Labortown. "Where it appears we will spend a few days. If that does not suit, we can find you an inn that would be more appropriate to your desires."

2nd Post

"Lodgings already? Angus, I don't even know where this place is where we're at! Southern Whatsis. What's that? Look at that big bridge thingie with the crazy hooks on it. Pertector eight-twenny-three. Block four-fifty-two. They got numbers for everything here."

"I mean, I don't mind staying in a converted warehouse for a while. Leastwise till I can get back to Wynn and the Crimson Shields. But, Stars, look at this ... "

The glove is off.

"HEY! What's this on my hand? Who put this on my hand!!!" The rogue disappears as she dives into the shadows around Mumblipeg and his Silvery Moonlight Guard. "Take it off!" Xenia slips behind the guards. With each burst of angry and excited words she shifts position, moving from one guard to the next. "I didn't say I wanted no tattoo on me!"

Rash walks over and pats Xenia on the back. "Congratulations my dear. That tattoo officially means you have given you life to Chaos if you chose to or not. I have studied this adventuring group as a hobby and many members have come and gone. It seems that they have fulfulled their original purpose which was to fight back chaos from taking over the Wold and when that was done, many of the members seemed to have drifted away. We seem to be the replacements. I would guess the powers aren't done with the Children yet and have further duties for us." Rash holds up her own recently tattooed hand

"I too had to leave a family and adventuring group behind. It hurts but I have the ability to teleport and maybe I can take you for a visit now and then. Where are you based out of?"

A Walk to the Warehouse (DM SteveK)
Thursday February 5th, 2009 5:02:56 PM

Rash, Trace, Peerimus, and Jurgen all agree for the Children of Chaos to stay at least for a while in Hook City to support the investigation and maintain the goodwill of the ponderous government of this most magical city.

Jurgen also offers Angus and Xenia the courtesy of the Children of Chaos' living accomodations, which are gratefully accepted. (ooc: Rash has been there before and so knows the place is available.)

Rash and Angus (as well as Xenia) ask if the Children of Chaos put them up for a few days until the Hook City inspections are over.

Angus makes arrangements with Archemides for further study. With the destruction of the SMG, the old Wizard is going to be staying in government domicile, and so will be easy to find for training or guidance.

Xenia comments on the wierd colors and shapes that are affecting just about everyone that was within a several block radius of the Machine's backlash during the destruction of the Star Mage Guild Tower. The rogue gives her wave, and talks about making a temporary abode with the CoC until she can get back to her friends on the Northern Continent. And then she takes off her gloves and stares at her hand. Well, stares for a second before she zips around Blintz Mugglietoes and his guard, bewailing her fate and demanding the Broken Tattoo's immediate removal!
.........................

At the Star Mage Ruins

The Third Prefect of SouthHook looks at Xenia's antics and catches a glimpse of the tattoo that is waved in front of his face and begins to laugh. Turning to the Children of Chaos, still grinning, he asks, "That's a really good joke, which one of you branded your friend?" (The guards don't move much, obviously very well-trained) It soon becomes apparent to Xenia (and the CoC heroes) that Blintz doesn't recognize the tattoo as arcane and didn't have anything to do with the placement on Xenia. So too, the tattoo being identical to the Tattoos on the other heroes that its placement wouldn't have been part of the random changes from the terrific magical release. "I think you may want to calm down and talk that part over with your friends", advises the small gnome in the orange-and-red checkered pants.

Blintz is less happy about Peerimus, Firn'gaer, and Trace's caveats to the generous offer to stay in Hook City, but Archimedes whispers in the gnome's pointed ear before the Prefect gets to speak. Blintz slowly nods and then looks up at the druid. "A few hours here or there is OK, and once the main investigation is over, even a couple days absence will not unduly affect the process. Hoever, it is fairly critical that you are about for a month or two." He glances behind him at the ruins of the Star Mages Tower. "This is going to take more than a report or two." The gnome waves a hand. "But we can discuss particulars in the morning. You have had a loooong day, and could do well with some rest. We all could." And with that, the Third Prefect of SouthHook moves away to other business.

......................................

Walking through SouthHook

Without much decisions needed, the Children of Chaos with Angus and Xenia travel a SouthHook boulevard in the direction of LaborTown. All the while, the magnificent structure of the Bridge, held aloft by four giant Hooks anchored in thin air, can be seen by the heroes as they make it to Block 452.

SouthHook itself is easily the richest part of the entire city. It's fantastical spires and elegant architecture put Northook to shame. 'Opulent' doesn't begin to describe it, and the richly dressed residents appear casual about the luxury surrounding them (though in interesting colors and patterns from the recent magical release!).

The group winds thier way to Block 452, buys a large quantity of already prepared food at Hosea's Hot Foods and brings all to the Children of Chaos Warehouse.
................................
At the Warehouse

The building the Protectors inherited from Madame Chloe's these years ago is in a narrow side street, which runs north off the main avenue. There is a little shop (also in the CoCs possession) midway down the block on the right hand side, and then the massive warehouse looms just beyond. Each building is identified by a blue-green sign with a helm & shield bearing an elaborately scripted "C". A small unlit lantern above the shop door, and another at the warehouse across the street.

The warehouse is about 60' tall, and the wall facing the street is 100' wide. A massive, 20' x 20' sliding door is centered in the wall, with the small magical lock set immediately beside it on the right, about chest-high to a human. The purple gem-key glows briefly as it is set in the lock and then it falls free, the big door rolling smoothly aside. And the Children and friends enter. Not everyone has been here since the CoC returned from thier trip over the Sargrass and back, and so they refamiliarize themselves with the layout.

Immediately, it looks like Randall and the neighborhood was able to spruce the place up in the months since the CoC have been gone. Just inside the door, the shelf that used to hold lanterns is now a cupboard which holds 20 or so Everburning Torches that can be brought out to light up the big building, which stretches 200' deep. High on the newly whitewashed walls (for additional brightness), just below the rafters, a row of windows wraps around the north, east, and south walls. Most of the crates of weapons and armor are gone, used to pay for the upkeep and renovation of the old warehouse and the shop across the street. The south side still contains a row of long tables, two large caravan wagons in good repair occupy the southeast corner, and the north side is now filled by a series of apartments. A full dozen three and four room apartments encompass the north side, all with a balcony and stairs to get down to the main level. The rooms are currently bare, but could be easily made livable by a few touches. Below the apartment complex is a sawdust ring that can be used for many different sorts of training venues.

There is a trapdoor and room beneath the warehouse, which in the past Chloe had used for special treasures. The trapdoor has been repaired since the long-ago battle.
...........................

At the Shop

Chloe's shop is a two-storied buiding 50' x 100' big and 30' high. It is fronted by a narrow porch whose roof supports a second-story balcony. This upper floor also has numerous windows, and appears to be an apartment. A door at the rear of the buiding leads to a high-walled small garden with a sculpted path, a massive tree, and a couple of stone benches and statues. The front and back walls of the shop, and the front wall of the warehouse, are faced with pale marble, but the remaining walls are a more mundane painted brick. Peerimus' garden and 'travel tree' are here as well.
...........................

The Children can rest and talk the night away, confident that Archimides, Randall, and Blintz will undoubtedly be there in the morning hours with questions, treasure, and (hopefully) some answers.

Oh, and a sudden thought... maybe the storekeepers of Block 452 would know something as well!
..........................

OOC Well done, everyone! Each PC recieves 8,500xp for the sucessful accomplishment of this adventure! Money and other goods will show up tomorrow with the CoCs expected guests.

For those who are interested, the Hook City authorities are going to be using at least 30 days to complete thier investigation. Since the heroes are allowed to go away for a day or two, this is the time to use for your own interests. (See family, visit Heranmar, go to the Catacombs, do magical research, improve personal area in Hook City, and gather information)

For interest of anyone resenting being herded, I need you to be based in Hook City for the next PC month or so. This is so the CoC and the Bloodpack can get synchronized for the upcoming Crossover. Thank you for your patience. :-)

Thursday February 5th, 2009 8:29:48 PM

Rash will pick up a wine goblet and say to the others, "Although I am a new member as well, I would like to thank the Powers for bringing us new friends and members to the Children of Chaos. After today's battle, I think we are in for some interesting times."

Durgan
Thursday February 5th, 2009 8:59:16 PM

Durgan introduces the new Children of Chaos to his supply of dwarven mountain ale in the eating area of the warehouse. "Nothing like a few ales to wash off the dust of a good adventure I say."

Durgan will spend time during the month making a forge which can be used to repair items as well as make things. (Also useful for crafters making metal items.) He will look to have enough supplies to make repairs and make a few things but not to churn out anything in quantity.

Durgan looks into furnishing his apartment as well, and making sure the food and drink supplies in the warehouse are in extremely good shape. (though they won't stay that way long hehe.)

Xenia (AC27, HP86/86)
Thursday February 5th, 2009 9:08:10 PM

"This is your place?" Xenia's green eyes are wide within her dark face as she turns, taking in the unbelievably spacious digs. "You live here? It's so big."

She wanders back out to the double doors that open out onto the ... block ... Block 452. Leaning against the door jamb, she looks with longing at the little shop down the way. Cute little place. Just perfect for selling adventuring goods out of. Things like that. Wynn never wanted to go into merchanting.

She sighs, pulling back into the Warehouse of the Chaos Guys. First things first. Making herself at home, the rogue searches out the materials that she needs. A box. Big, with room for him to crawl around in. And a bowl for water, a big bowl. Big enough to swim in. (Search 30 - Taking 10)

*snick* Xenia folds out the portable shovel, part of her arsenal of useful stuff stashed in her magic bag. Hauling dirt in from outside, she builds a landscape in which the bowl sits like a miniature pond.

"'Kay, Newty Guy. This is your new home for now." Into the box the dark girl releases the Ex-wizard Dar. "I'll put in grass and rocks and plants later. But for now, you got a place to swim. Gotta ask Peerimus what newts eat."

Next comes the loot. Each piece of stuff that they took from Dar and the three Undead Magickers, she lays out on the floor. "Hey, Fernie, what you figure this does?" She holds up a wand, one of three, captured from one of the liches.

"Hey, what kinda shops you got around here? I was thinkin' of going out to pick up some pastries and such for the break fast. You do kaffe here in your Southern Watzis, right? Tell me you do kaffe."

Later on in the evening, over the hot food from Hosea's, "So, Jurgen," she says, gesturing with a pointed stick with savory chicken bits on it, "you were gonna talk about this Children of Chaos thing, and the weerdo mark that's come by itself onto my hand. What's it about?"

"And, um ... No offense, Rash, but, um ... we gotta share rooms?"

Peerimus AC 34 HP 110/112 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166
Thursday February 5th, 2009 9:55:12 PM

Peerimus nods to the Prefect. "Your indulgence and that of Hook City is greatly appreciated in this manner. Rest assured we will be right where you need to find us for as long as what needs doing is done." Peerimus keeps alert on the way back, taking in the sights and actions of those they spy enroute.

Eventually they arrive, and settle in. Yorrick finds a convenient beam of sun shine and curls up for a well earned nap. Peerimus dectivates his animated shield and finds a chair, knowing the dwarves will be opening thier cache of ale shortly. "Things seem to have been moving well over the past few months here." He remarks to no one specifically as he looks about. The sleeping arrangements are not important to him inside the building as Peerimus won't be in it and so he leaves that conversation to the others.

After the ale arrives and some food has been eaten, Peerimus starts with a stedy look at Firngaer to confirm they are on the same page. "First is the artifact fragment, I believe a certain ex-Dragon lair would be an ideal location. Guarded, unknown to any but us and completely off the trail." Assuming Firngaer did not have a different location in mind, he continues, I can take it there immediately tomorrow morning and return. Second is the newt. He is still dangerous and propose to set him loose in the wild. With us the risk of the magic being undone is greater and no Jurgen, I have no intention of returning him to his former state."

Peerimus sits back and patiently waits for the arguements he knows to be coming. He had been going over Dar and the possibilities for nearly an hour now and always ended up back at this conclusion. It sometimes took some time to arrive, but arrive he always did.

Other issues had now been raised in his mind as well. there was Xenia and Angus, both now marked but both carrying a great deal of baggage. Or was it he who had the extra? Peerimus was unsure, time to himself is what he really needed, back in the wood with Yorrick Father and Mother. Peerimus chuckles at the thought. By himself indeed, he would carry the whole Wold wherever he went and that is precisely what he enjoyed. Ah but the great trees and wind, the rain and the night, they were very comforting in that they let you think and talk. To reason things out without waiting for thier own turn to merely speak. They said more with less than any other ever could. Peerimus breaks from his inner thinkings and brings the outside back into focus. Hopefully no one had been tlaking to him in the last few minutes...

If the plan holds Peerimus will memorize a few transport via plants (6) as well as Commune with nature (2) and a Live Oak. he will go to Heranmar first then to the dryads ash stash the artifact in the dragon cave, speak with the dryad for 30 minutes or so back to Heranmar, cast live oak, giving WanderWood the trigger phrase should he need it , chat with the tree for a short time and then cast Commune before returing to Hook city

Firn'gaer; See Invisibility, SR18, Tongues
Thursday February 5th, 2009 10:49:32 PM

Firn'gaer arrives back at the warehouse. He finds a chair and puts his feet up. Rufus darts out from under his robes and squeaks I'm hungry! "Really, what a shock." he says down to the rodent on his lap. "You know there is some food just over there. Would you like me to get you some." he says as a statement rather than a question already knowing the answer. With a word and a wave, Firn'gaer uses Mage Hand to bring food to Rufus.

"Hmm . . . free time at last . . . or what looks like it anyways. I think there is going to be a lot of interviews in our future. We will get to see Hook City's bureaucracy at its finest." he says taking out his pipe and lighting it. "At least we will be able to take advantage of some warm beds and regular baths." Don't forget good food. squeaks the Rufus. "How could I forget that."

"No, that is the place I was thinking." he replies to Peerimus. "But, honestly, I don't know if it can be destroyed. I don't know if there is still magical energies stored in the pieces, and destroying the pieces would cause an explosion." he says. "Really, I just don't know enough about that other than I don't want to see it reformed."

Kazak -
Thursday February 5th, 2009 11:49:02 PM

The dwarven warrior joins his brother in some refreshment ....." dats good " .... growls Kazak ...

Taking off his equipment .... Kazak sits down cross legged on the floor and to clean his eqipment .... arms and armor .... making sure its all ready to go when needed .... all the while sipping some refreshing dwarven ale

Once the fine food from Hosea's Hot Foods arrives .... the dwarf settles down .... and just listens to the conversations .......while enjoying the fare .....

"Definatly gonna need some more furniture ... i ain't gonna sleep on da floor .... so some shopping is a must .... help contribute to the local business's too ..... not to mention i'm gonna hit da catacombs .....too "

Angus AC 27 HP 66/66
Friday February 6th, 2009 12:22:38 PM

Angus looks at the CoC set and whistles "Nice set up. The CoC seem to have a sense of style. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you better now that our lot have been tossed together" Angus scratches at his new tatoo

If allowed, Angus will claim a small three room apartment for himself.

Angus will spend his month learning about Hook City and spending time with Archimedes as he prepares to become an ArchMage (at next level).

Angus needs to find a good winemaker and choclateer to handle two of his vices.

Welcome to the Neighborhood (DM SteveK)
Friday February 6th, 2009 2:45:34 PM

Rash is interested in checking out the loot that the CoC managed to get from the Tower. She also gets herself settled, convinced the Hook City investigation is going to take a while.

Durgan introduces his new friends dwarven mountain ale. Looking around, he decides a forge in the warehouse-cum-quarters would be a good thing, at least large enough to make repairs and a few things on occasion. He also looks into furnishing his apartment and making sure the food and drink larder is well-stocked.

Xenia seems to appreciate the setup for the CoC in Hook City, both the warehouse and the small shop. Finding an apartment to her liking, she makes a planetarium for Dar the Newt, and places the little guy in his new home; the one where he can control everything he can crawl to... Then, while asking about local food and drinks, she starts bringing out loot to look over.

Peerimus keeps the peace with Blintz and his guards, and during the walk back, watches the people watching them. Then he thinks about the Children's next steps.

- First is the artifact fragment. Peerimus and Firn'gear both suggest Ohzone's dragon lair in the hidden valley and guarded by their dryad friend as the perfect hiding place.

- Second, the newt. Peerimus thinks he should be set loose in the wild and then forgotten. That way, there is less chance a stray Dispel Magic could return him to form.

- Third is the status of Xenia and Angus, both now marked with the tattoo but both with past lives. Whatever the plans for them, maybe an expert in the matters of the Broken Spirals may shed a little (usually very little) light on the subject?

Firn'gaer and Rufus make themselves comfortable with chair, food, and drink, and joins the conversation. He agrees that the dragon's lair is the best place for the artifact piece.

Kazak gets comfortable with the food and conducts maintenance on his equipment. He speculates about fixing up his own particular place in Hook City.

Angus also appreciates the setup for the CoC in Hook City. He claims his own apartment whiles scratching at his new tattoo. He also speculates on the time he'll have to indulge in speaking with Archimedies, eating fine chocolates, and sipping good wines.

.......................

During dinner, everyone pulls out the loot that was stuffed in pockets while attacking the Star Mages Guild Tower. It turns out to be quite a list from the Imp, Mindflayer, Liches, and Dar! With Arcane Sight and other skills, the CoC quickly sort out the magical impliments and arrive at...

The Morning Visitors

The next day dawns cheery and warm, with a wind coming off the hot Sargrass Plains. Breakfast is found and shared and finished before the first visitors come to the warehouse.

The first of which is Randall. He greets his old companions with cheery welcome, the small pseudo dragon flitting about everyones head, especially Rash, Angus, and Xenia to whom he hasn't met before. Yet that's not what Randall has come about. The mage tosses on the breakfast table a very small, fine leather purse that clinks musically. "The masters that are still around felt this was far too small a compensation than the Children deserve, but with large legal battles looming, it is all they can afford."

Inside, the purse contains nine coin-shaped disks of ever-swirling Blue. "A Blue Chit is worth 12,000gold", Randall explains, "one for each of you."

There is a knock at the door and Randall grins. "And this is the other benefit I am sure." He settles down with a pastry to be available for questions later.

The Second set of visitors is the Third Prefect himself; Blintz Mugglietoes! Only two guards accompany him this time, and the little gnome comes bustling in with a courier's pouch and pops out a couple of memory gems.

"The advantage of a bureaucracy is that with the records available, things can go very fast indeed. Master Archimedies and the other Star Mage masters that are still here have used some political capital, but I think you will be pleased."

"First," Blintz nods to Randall, "the Star Mages Guild have declined to press charges on Protectors 823 for said Protectors attacking members of the SMG and destroying SMG property without proper challenge filed. In fact, the SMG has, post-event pre-included said Protectors on temporary retainer which thus gives your actions legal jurisdiction for the activities yesterday."

"Second", he continues without waiting for questions, "the SMG has also cleared up the little problem with the Protector 823s filed roster of personnel at the time of the action. So now, as of the day BEFORE yesterday, Kit Miara, Kat Miara, and Savin are removed from Protector 823s list, and Rash, Angus, and Xenia are added."

"Third," Blintz mentions, "is the SMG has seen fit to sponsor the Protector 823s request to conduct magical transport in and out of the city by means of the tree in their shop's courtyard in Block 452. Members of the Protector 823 are now allowed to move in and out of Hook City without customs requirements. Any magic purchased FOR PERSONAL USE is also not subject to taxing." Blintz looks up. "That last bit cost a pretty chit let me tell you. But the Council has seen the Protector 823 as generally trustworthy and are confident you will not abuse this status."

And a Third group of visitors arrive at the warehouse at the same time! These are several of the CoC's neighbors from Block 452. Seiur Hosea and Madame Orchid arrive with a basket of food and a sheathe of beautiful flowers in their arms. Didi Hosea, the leader of Protectors 877 is there too. Finally, Madame Katz Weaver brings in a cunningly woven area rug for the Children of Chaos. After introductions are around and people are settled over everything, Madame Orchid explains. "We knew you were back last night, and so wanted to greet our returning neighbors."

.................

It really looks like a party is starting, and there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions from several different types of information sources...

Xenia (AC27, HP86/86)
Friday February 6th, 2009 5:54:04 PM

The night went on. Eating. Drinking. (No grape rink in this place.) But the promised explanation never came. In a quiet moment alone, Xenia had held her hand out at arm's length to take in the new, the curious and weerdo tattoo. It wasn't a bad looking thing. Not necessarily bad. Wonder what Wynn will think of it?

The thought had brought a sigh to the lips of the slim dark rogue. Wynn. The one and truly love of her life. Was he gone? Lost to her forever?

The next morning, the girl rogue comes down in her pink polar bear jammies. Her bright red hair falls in unruly curls down over the white dancing bears that dot her shoulders. Without a word, she makes her way into the kitchen. Minutes later, she comes out with a steaming mug and a pastry with red berries on top.

"Ahhh. Betterer."

When folks start arriving, she disappears, fading into the early morning shadows, to return later dressed in black leggings and a black short sleeved shirt upon which are printed in bold white letters the legend, "YOU'RE JUST AN NPC IN MY WORLD". Her hair today is up in a ponytail, a thing she hasn't done for a long time.

"Hi. I'm Xenia. Hi. I'm Xenia." With a white smile in her dark face, the rogue introduces herself around. "Um ... Alexandria Merryman Next ... " she corrects Mugglibutt when he adds her name to the role of Chaos Guys. "Full name is Alexandria Merryman Next."

"Flowers! And that is such a beautiful area rug." Xenia gushes over the presents. "I'm new to this group. They have such nice neighbors. Would you like a pastry? Some kaffe?" Chatting with the women, she gets the lowdown on the local gossip, as well as putting in an inquiry or two into what sort of goods this city with the hooked bridge produces.

Durgan
Friday February 6th, 2009 7:11:00 PM

Durgan holds a blue chit in this hand, rubbing it between his thumb and finger. "And this is worth how much gold ye say? Will the Catacombs accept it as payment or do we gotta trade it in first?"

Durgan loses interest as Blintz explains that the group would not be held liable for the day's activity. "Harumph! I should think not! We saved those durned wizards' lives. It's the least they could do ta not charge us with anything. No taxes eh? Hey brother, mebbe I'll join ye on that shopping trip."

When the neighbors show up, Durgan appears relieved. "Ah, a gift of food. That's the best present I got all day. Come on in neighbors and have some ale!"

Durgan looks over at Xenia. "Ye been wonderin about the tattoo ain't ye. Nuthin but trouble, that's what it is." The dwarf offers no further comment.

Kazak -
Friday February 6th, 2009 11:55:42 PM

The dwarf welcomes their guests ..... especially their neighbors .... " wow thats a great rug .... we can organize a meeting area ... add some nice comfortable couches and chairs ..... and dis beautiful rug can be da center piece ..... be a good way to greet good neighbors " .... as Kazak admires the well crafted throw rug

Kazak lets Peerimus and the mages do the diplomatic stuff ......but will inspect all the newly aquired loot that is neatly laid out ...." some intresting stuff .... i think i could use some of dis here stuff ....." as he selects several rings and the pair of gloves to inspect closer ......

Walking over to Xenia's newly created Newt pond .... " nicely done.... intresting idea of how to keep an eye on da tricky mage " ... grins Kazak ....." if ya want to add some stone to the outside tomake it sturdier ... just let me know ... i'm good wit stone .... crafting and shaping it "

Angus HP 66/66
Saturday February 7th, 2009 11:44:42 AM

Angus almost misses breakfast as he was sleeping in, but no worries too much food never agreed with the thin human anyway. Angus rushes down from his new apartment dressed for travel, but it does not seem that anyone is going anywhere fast. Angus comes down and finds a seat as he has some tea and strawberries for breakfast.

Angus strolls by the magic item and gives them a though screening "Very nice haul." Angus will tip his big floppy leather traveling hat to Xenia "Girl your eyes are as beutiful as they are useful. There are inumerable reasons that Wynn kept you close." Angus will bite his lip at the mention of Wynn's name and add "How were things with the group when you got .... extracted?

Angus listens to Randall and Blintz, but soon gets bored and pull out his silver flute and works on tuning it as he mutters "Too many rules to worry about." Angus does perk up when his and Xenia's names are mentions as part of some Protector 8 something.

Angus focuses on Blintz "What have you signed me on to protect and what are the terms of the agreement that I did not get to puruse? I do like the no tax provision and I can assume that it is a life long arrangement, at least until I understand the protector duties a bit better. I have taken care of orphans before and was pretty good at it. Curious how this job stacks up as well?" Angus leans back on his chair and sips his tea.

After Blintz responds Angus will add "Do you have an understanding of the strange tatoo's or do all protectors have them?" Angus makes a mental note to ask Archemides about the tatoos as well.

Angus will wave to Randall and ask "Were the local branch of the Catacombs also located at the Star mage Guild or was there another office we can use?"

Angus stands when the neighbors arrive and he greets each in turn "I am Angus Deminoff and am new to the area. I look forward to frequenting your stores and Inns and getting to know all of you and thank you for the generous gifts."

Peerimus AC 34 HP 110/112 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166  d20+13=23 ;
Saturday February 7th, 2009 11:47:42 AM

Peerimus retires to the courtyard with Yorrick and at first light, he prepares his spells and is back to the wharehouse, picking up bread and pastries along the way. In the earlier evening's conversation Peerimus nods at Firngaers thoughts on the artifact. "I will simply hide it and leave it be."

Peerimus agrees with the shopping trips, if the group was going to maintain a precense here as a Protector group, then the warehouse needed to be fully converted to that function. He makes a mental note to discuss layouts and the work with the group. Magic would allow for a great deal of alteration.

On the items, Peerimus just states , "The catacombs has a shop here we can use easily."

Peerimus greets everyone warmly as he enters the building, his demeanor much changed and relaxed appearing than it is 'in the field.' Yorrick is not with him. He settles and deposits the food on a few mats he picked up. Xenai comes down and peerimus smiles warmly at her, "Very nice shirt. I will take you home whenever you wish." he hands her a sweet pastry. "As to the tattoo you now wear, Lhari is the foremost knowledgable person at our immediate disposal. He could likely answer any questions you have as well as convey the entire story."
Peerimus raises an eyebrow when Durgan and Kazak make appearances, His tone taking on a more serious mark and his face growing tight. "By the Powers, there truly was strange magic at work yesterday." The druid cocks his head slightly to regard the brothers intently before adding. "Both of you are up."

Visitors...
Peerimus waves to Randall and invites him to have something to eat. The contents of the pouch, brings a nod. "Convey our gratitude please friend. It is good to see you are so well.."

More visitors....Peerimus stands for the Prefect and greets him formally [diplomacy 23] Blintz withdraws the stones and begins speaking. the druid listens to it all and takes everything in with fevor. he nods occassionally and stores much for later.

Still more visitors...Peerimus makes eye contact and smiles towards Didi Hosea, Madame Katz Weaver, Seiur Hosea and Madame Orchid. He then gestures to Blintz. A few strides takes him to his neighbors with a short, "My apologies Prefect." as he moves off. He greets each warmly and thanks them for stopping by. peerimus apologizes, but with a gesture towards Blintz, "I'm afraid I have some busines with the city. I am sure you understand and forgive me." Peerimus nods, and then returns to Blintz, gesturing to the side to remove themselves from the more friendly banter of neighbors and old freinds.

"Prefect..."the druid begins.....

2nd post later today maybe tomorrow ....

Jurgen
Saturday February 7th, 2009 3:29:55 PM

Jurgen doesn't know how to respond to being tied to Hook City. They were the Protectors of Heranmar, not Skyhook. What if the giants returned? Or the liches found it? Or any number of other situations. Still, they would have to follow the laws of the land. And Blintz was offering them some leeway. It would have to do. He debates mentioning that the Children actually didn't destroy anything and that it was the Star Mages who destroyed their own property. But he leaves it be, since Randall had likely already done that work for the group. "Master Blintz, we thank you for all your work in this matter. You know where to find us if the Hook needs some adventurers." That last bit is out of his mouth before he has time to think about it. In retrospect, the Children were probably far too busy to help Hook City with whatever problems came their way. But... that was the cost of making connections.

As for Randall and the Protectors of 877, Jurgen heartily greets them all and decides to offer a complex retelling of the prior day's events. He, knowing how to tell a good story, does some embellishing in all the right places. And he excludes mentioning the Onnulus, what happened to Dar afterwards and the prophecy that was restated. After all, some matters were strictly need-to-know.

Towards the end of the evening, Jurgen finds Xenia and Angus and makes them an offer. "I am not an expert of the tattoos, but I'll tell you what I know if you don't mind some rambling." He pulls up a chair with something to snack on. "In the North, the Gods have sway. But here, on the Southern Continent, it is harder for them to reach out to us. Of course, there are some exceptions as is the case with Domi calling me to paladinhood. But in the South, the Immortal Powers are honored. There is a group of them known as the Crones. They were once adventurers and protectors in their own right. They defeated a very powerful for, the Avatar of Chaos, but the Avatar always returns from exile. So when the Crones ascended to Power-hood they watch over the Southern Continent and each generation, they call upon a new group of heroes to battle the Avatar. They also reorganize the Southern Continent whenever it appears that war will shatter it. This Great Migration is the other task for the Chaos champions. What that means exactly, we aren't sure. That prophecy about 'beware the side that seeks not change' has been said to us before."

He looks at Xenia and Angus, hoping they aren't too bored with the background. "As for what this means to you... That is up to you. Over the years there have been many heroes to take the Child of Chaos title. The original group were marked by the Chaos Bell, many years ago. Of them, I believe Trace is the only one to still be marked. Some have moved on to other duties. Some have taken the next step in the Great Journey. The Crones have marked you, but if you wish to return to your homes and carry out other tasks, the Chaos powers will not stop you. But, even if the tattoo fades away, you will always feel it. A small itch in the back of your mind, reminding you. And when the Children are in need, it will throb. And I suspect that, if we were all to die, the tattoo would react quite powerfully. Before you decide whether to join our battle, I want to make you aware of a few things. For starters, we have made some enemies by our actions and we have learned that the Chaos champions have some 'natural' enemies. This is something all adventurers risk, of course, when banding together. But I wanted to mention it before you walked into this. Next is these tattoos themselves. As far as we have been able to determine, they are a unique form of magic. And we have no real control over them. Powerful things have happened, usually in times of great need, because of them. I was once able to blast a dragon with sonic magic, because of mine. But trying to impose our own order on them almost always comes with consequences. They never act as you want them to, but they sometimes act as we need them do. Finally, after all our years together we have discovered that we are truly the most chaotic of companions. Our battles are often the random actions of eight or nine different people, not the precisely organized machines of other groups. But we try. As such, Trace is our Battle Leader and Peerimus is the Head of our group. I know you do not know us well, but with time you'll see the wisdom of the choices."

He shakes his head and looks into his empty glass. "I hope that I have not scared you off... You are both quite capable of managing whatever comes your way and it would be an honor to adventure with you." He adds with a smile and awaits any questions they may have.

[OOC: If anyone has anything to add... This is a mostly "of the top of my head".]

Firn'gaer; See Invisibility, SR18, Tongues
Saturday February 7th, 2009 4:22:56 PM

Firn'gaer will add what he knows of the marks. "The tattoos are a symbol of the chosen. The symbols have changed their appearance several times and usually mark some change in the balance between Law and Chaos. From what we have learned, those marked are destined to confront the Destroyer. The Destroyer is a elemental force as old as the Wold itself. He is the personification of Chaos, and his awakening heralds the end of days. The Children of Chaos are tasked with finding the five items that will allow the Destroyer to be awoken before his strength has full returned to him and defeat him. My understanding is that when this is done the Chaotic forces he represents are disbursed again across the Wold in order to maintain the delicate balance of nature. The Destroyer was defeated. But now I think our task is to maintain the balance of nature and to make sure this balance does not sway too far in any one direction."

"The Crones actually did not gift any of us with the marks. The Crones are ancestors of ours. They are Children of Chaos from a long, long time past. They have been guides of sorts, but the true nature of the marks and the limits of its powers are unknown. Although, the marks are not where this power resides. The power is in the Children and the marks are just that - a mark. But I believe, they a focus for that power. And as far as I know, none has really tried to harness the potential. At best, we have been able to awake brief bursts of its potential or the power has chosen to reveal itself when the Children are facing dire circumstances. The power has flare only a few times that I am aware. It destroyed a dragon, but I was still on the Northern Continent at the time. It also aided us when we faced a lich whose power was far greater than the three in the Guild Tower."

Rash Trinka
Saturday February 7th, 2009 5:32:55 PM

Rash Trinka listens to the stories nodding her head as the tattoos are explained to the newcomers. While she considers herself a newcomer, the Children of Chaos were always sort of a hobby with her and see kept up on the stories being told about them. She examines the Rod of Quicken lesser and pipes up, "If no one wants this, I think I will add it as my share of the treasure. Being able to quicken some spells will be useful in getting into combat more quickly.

She looks around the warehouse and thinks of the store and says, "I have the ability to help fortify this dwelling if you want? A few glyphs of warding on the doors and maybe a symbol or two could make a raid on this establishment painful. Let me know"

Once the party starts going Rash will disappear for awhile to memorize a spell after her night's sleep and then cast Hero's feast for the group and its friends to partake in. "Sit! Enjoy! Tell stories. Now we can relax and get to know each other without blood flying"

If the party eats for an hour, then they enjoy some nice benefits like cure disease, pluses on morale etc. Don't think we really need those benefits but still nice to have. Quick way to get over the sniffles.

Trace (104/104 hp) (ac 29) barkskin, cats grace, haste, flying, resist energy electricty
Saturday February 7th, 2009 10:53:52 PM

Trace sits and listens to the stories told by all and really just enjoys the moment of peace. As for the Hook City representives, Trace keeps his mouth shut and lets cooler heads lay the ground work.

Trace comes down for the feast and when a moment clears will interject, "Well what is our task at hand? I think Peerimus will be able to handle the house cleaning sort of speak and all will shop till they drop with our bounty. But I have a overwhelming feeling that we are about to be left with sever choices and need to make a list of items that need to be done. We still have a promise to fullfill with laying ground work on trading and also talks of alliance for Hernamar with the surround towns and cities. I still feel that some form of army supplied by the area in a time of need needs to be set up. Maybe not in function but plans to be set so that it is not a scramble if the time ever comes.

We now have new friends that most likely will need help in cleaning up their past as well. We also need to swing by and maybe have someone check in on the giants and the taurs that are near to Hernamar and they would also be a good way to start up trade and offer help in a time of need. We have a goo repore with them and further the trade that seems to be starting with the mermaids.

Trace walks over to Peerimus and gives him a feather token of a bird and says, send this when you need me to return to Hernamar. I will spend some time just beyound your grove spending time in the woods after I settle my apartment here. I feel lost without Shadow and look to maybe find a new friend. I guess I can use that time to check in on the taurs and maybe look in on the giants and wolves.

Trace spends a couple of days around Hook buying some simple things for his room, bed, shelf dressor and chest. and even maybe a night stand. Then he makes his way to Hernamar via Peerimus and will retrive his horse from the stable and go about his search.

(ooc will do buying in the catacombs, 12,000 gp for the chit and then is 33,150 for the loot?.)

Xenia (AC27, HP86/86)
Sunday February 8th, 2009 12:43:22 PM

2nd post

"You know, it might be a good idea to build the Newty Guy a cave, Kazak. Um ... You're Kazak, right? And you're Durgan?" The rogue points, in turn, to the correct of the two dwarven brothers. "Couldja carve sump'in that he could crawl into to get the light offa him, but not so he could hide from us? And maybe you could make, like, real stone walls instead of just a box."

"A'course, doing that depends on what Peerimus wants to do with him. I mean, I was thinking it would be nice to have a pet newt who used to be a powerful wizard. But you turned him, Peerimus. That makes him yours. You could, like, turn him loose, but whatcha be that means he's gonna get eaten by some bird or a cat or an alligator or sump'in?"

Xenia picks a few strawberries out of a bowl on the feast table that Rash had conjured. How long had it been since the Shields got together for a meal all together like this? It seemed so long ago in the Giggling Ghost. But that had been interrupted by that other adventuring group. The group who brought the gold stone into the Float. The ones who died so horribly that night.

Sitting back with a bowl of light fruit, a few pancakes, and a mound of whipped cream, the rogue from Floating City listens in silence as the Chaos Guys tell about the tattoos and the crazy incredible legend around which they've lived.

"We were in the Undercity, Angus," she says during a lull in conversation. "There was a plague taking over the entire Float. All of Trash Level had been taken already. This disease thing turns you into these weerdo undead things. Zombies, but fast. Real fast. The Overlord and her people, none of them even knew what it was, but the Underlord sent a message, calling for help, saying sump'in about being invaded. So they called us."

"We fought our way through Trash Level, going over the rooftops and got let in through a secret door in the bottom of the Underramp. Guess who was in charge down there, Angus. It was Jonas. That fram bastidge got himself to be an Undercrat, and when the Underlord got took by the diseased, they killed him and Jonas took over."

"Anywho, we were fighting our way to this Control Room place through all sorts of traps and diseased undead guys and Red Hood Maskie types who Florin though were Ga'alies, when I got hit with this light all over the place. When my eyes cleared, there was this Squid Faced guy there and, like, I couldn't move, and he put me in that cage, and, well, you know the rest."

"I thought it mighta been a trap that took me here at first. But now I'm not so sure. Oh, FRAM!" the dark girl swears. "I wasn't supposed to say anything about the Undercity. We had to agree to have our minds wiped after we took care of everything. Now I'm out, and I still 'member everything. And I just told you all about it too."

"Now what am I gonna do?" If she hadn't already been holding a cream covered strawberry, Xenia would, no doubt, have put her head in her hands. "But I gotta get back. I can't hear Wynn anymore. Oh, you went off to the plantation before this happened, Angus. But since we went into the Tower of Boydos, Wynn and me, we've been able to hear each other's thoughts. We can talk to each other in our heads. But I can't hear him anymore. Not since I came here."

"I know your Chaos Balance thing is important." Xenia stand addressing the entire group. "And maybe I got my part in this thing to, you know, to play and all. But Wynn, he's my guy. He's the most important thing in the Wold to me. I gotta at least know that he's alright. If I could just see him. Maybe you got some magic that will do that, a scrying thing. If you could do that for me ... I'd ... I don't know what I'd do if he were dead."

Blintz Mugglitoes (DM SteveK)
Sunday February 8th, 2009 1:27:31 PM

The gaudily dressed gnome munches on little bits while listening to the questions and comments on law and Hook City. Seemingly, he doesn't react at all to the other bits of trivia floating around.

"Sieur Angus, I did nothing at all to enforce a contract upon you. We in Hook CIty are more civilized than the surrounding areas of this land, you see. Firstly, there is no such thing as 'adventurers'. A group of armed people must have a purpose to keep together. The group once known as the Southern Lights, now sometimes as the Children of Chaos and listed as Protectors 823 are the assigned group to protect Block 452. Your position is to ensure the safety of the Block and to defend the block in challenges from other Blocks."

He consults a gem which glows briefly. "Ah yes, this occured but a day before a challenge was issued between Protectors 452 against Madame Chloe who retained the Protectors 823 as her champions in the challenge. The Protectors 452 were defeated and disbanded, Madame Chloe killed, and the Protectors 823 mad the hiers of Madame Chloe's goods and property. With the demise of Protectors 452, the Protectors 823 were hired by Block 452 as thier Protectors, thus allowing your group to retain the rights and priveledges of Protectors while in HookCity."

Blintz looks up and begins a lecture like a school master to a student. "Protectors are provided certain privledges within HookCity. They are allowed to remain armed and organized. They must prominently wear thier number badge while patrolling thier hired location. While hired, they are citizens of HookCity and provided the benefits of the government and courts. Any non-citizen in HookCity has 3 days to find a position or to leave.

If you wish, I'll have your named stricken from the Protectors 823 and you may begin your 3 days of safe grant before you must leave the city." Blintz cocks his head as if the gnome can't think of a reason why anyone would DO that, but he'd make the arrangements nevertheless.
........

Blintz again claims he knows nothing of the Broken Spiral Tattoos. "I know of nothing arcanely. Perhaps some divine knowledge would serve you better, Sieur Angus."
........

Blintz is well pleased with the knowledge and courtesy of Jurgen and especially Peerimus (thanks for the skill roll!), and will speak jovially and with great knowledge to whatever the druid wishes to talk about.

Randall (DM SteveK)
Sunday February 8th, 2009 1:34:11 PM

"Yes, the Well Shod Traveller, but a couple streets away, has an entrance to the Catacombs", the wizard replies to Angus. "And I'm sure the good neighbors of Block 452 will be able to direct you to any other needs in the area."

Randall stands, and gives individual goodbyes depending on how well he knows the CoC. "But I must be off. The Star Mages are in deposition and there's going to be many long days before I'm free for a long day of my interests."

And then Randall leaves followed by his pseudo-dragon.

Durgan
Sunday February 8th, 2009 6:21:02 PM

Durgan raises an eyebrow as Xenia inquires about the dwarves. "Aye, ye caught our names and i gathered yours is Xenia sumthin or other. We welcome ye into our home, but know I'll be watching ye carefully. Where we come from, drow tend to cause a few problems. Until I'm sure about you...I'll be watching.

"As for a cage, ask me brother. he's the stone expert."

Xenia (AC27, HP86/86)
Sunday February 8th, 2009 7:25:28 PM

"Just keep your eyes off of the wrong places, Dwarfie." The dark girl spits back, temper flaring as red hot as the color of her hair. She stands, hand on hip and begins pointing with one slim dark accusing finger. "And if you call me Drow again, I'm gonna carve the skin from you bit by bit."

"You got any idea what's gotta happen to make someone who looks like me? Red hair? Green eyes? Drow skin? Lemme give you a hint, Durgan. You take a Drow, and you take a woman who's not willing. You got me? That was my mom, who I never knew, 'cause she abandoned me in the sewers."

The dark girl throws herself back down into her chair, and, arms folded over her smallish breasts, she stews in her own juices.

"If I hadn't been found, I'd ... I'd be dead! Thank the stars for my Ma and Da. Who else would take in a drow baby? Do you have any idea what it's like to grow up drow dark? Do you?"

"I tell you, Durgan, you find yourself a drow, you can just put your dwarfie ax right up his butt." Her green eyes, normally so cool, now smolder with the fire of her hair. "'Cause when I come along, I'm gonna cut of his privates and make him eat 'em."

OoC: BTW, thanks, Brian. I don't often get the chance to tell this part of the story IC.

Angus is amazed at Blintz's story and asks further "How big is the block we are protecting and what is in it? Also how often are we called in to champion for our neighbors? Is this a weekly, monthly or yearly occurance? I will retain status as a protector. I like that title."

Angus nods to Randall "Very helpful sire. If I can be of service at a later time, you know where to find me. What can you tell me of Archemides? I will be spending some time with the man for basic Arch mage instruction."

Angus stays rapt at Xenia's words about his old friends and is not happy to hear they were in such peril when she left. "I will talk with Archemides to see if he has any scrying capabilities for you and I to use." Angus will ask Randall as well if he has acess to scrying "Randall can you help us with scrying to the Northern continent to check up on a few loved ones if we are going to be separated by seve4ral thousand miles for a time?"

Angus leans over to Durgan and whispers "Notice the red hair on Xenia's. Race is a bit of a touchy subject with her. Best to leave it alone and stay on her good side." Angus will rise and move over to Xenia and put a thin arm around Xenia's shoulders "Its alright he did not know. Tell me about the link with Wynn, that must have been special." Angus quickly attempts to change the subject.

Rash hears Xenia's question about scrying and says, "I am sure I can help you. Since you want to take a peak at a friend of yours, do you have anything of him to assist in the scrying? A lock of hair would be best but maybe a personal item. If you give me a day to prepare, I am sure we can peek in on him and maybe even communicate in some way. I check in on my own family using this spell and have had good success."

Rash takes the rod of quicken lesser as her share of the treasure. (Should get another 1000 gps also if my figures are correct) and adds it to her collection.

[OOC - Was Xenia and Angus part of the crossover with the Children during Ebyron?]

"Xenia, what's on the outside doesn't really matter. I was human, once. But look at me know, I'm a gnome (long story). I may not have the same tendencies as other gnomes, but we take the circumstances we are given and try to make the best of it. If in the process we can make those around us a little happier, then that in turns makes us a better person."

"Xenia, I can arrange for to see when happened to your husband. My scrying mirror is in Heranmar. When we return, I'll scry on him." He says to the red haired woman. "If we are able to find him, I would be willing to bring him to Heranmar. That's where we live, and he would be welcome. We've extended the same to Rash."

.....................

Blintz waves away Angus' questions and points to the grouping of Sieur Hosea and Madame Orchid. "Those questions are best left to the Block, Sieur Angus. It would be best for them to answer." And the gnome goes back to awaiting Peerimus' concerns.

Randall is able to assure Angus that Archimedies is a reputable and skilled practitioner in the arts. "However", he continues, "as I've said before, the Star Mages that are left in HookCity are going to be quite busy explaining all this to the authorities." He moves to a whisper and continues, "I'm hoping we'll at least be able to keep the Star Mages as citizens after this." Then, Randall really has to leave, and bustles out.

For the neighbors, Madame Orchid takes charge of the circle of friends. She expertly seeds a miramellon and passing out deep purple slices to the group. And, her soothing, motherly voice keeping pace, she tells the Children of Chaos the activities of the Block. "The Fruit Market is doing well, my oldest are able to run the shop well enough for a couple hours while I can be about on other business. In fact, all the major shops have been going well, from Sieur Hosea's Hot Foods to Madame Weaver's The Weaver Colony. There is a merchant speculator, one Sieur Alad by name, who owns The Transport Control Company and has lately been very successful in organizing caravans north and west, and shipping south. And his success has brought further prosperity to our Block." The miramellon is delicious, its sticky juices coating anything it touches. Good thing there are rags nearby to wipe mouths, as well as plenty of a stout dwarven ale called "the Mountainhome" or a sweet gnomish cordial called "Fanfo Blackberry" to wash it down!

And now she frowns. "It is interesting, Madame Xenia, that you tell of your city in the north being plauged by fast-moving undead. For Sieur Alad has claimed his caravans and ships have encountered more and more of such monsters on the Sargrass and the hills. It seems that this threat is here in our region as well, may the Powers preserve us."

Madame Orchid continues her talking, speculating on some of the things the Children of Chaos have mentioned. "It looks like magical scrying and transportation is not a problem for heroes as skilled as you", she says, "but advice and sage council are what you are looking for. To be sure, I've always found the Temple of the Crones to be a place for wise answers. Located on the Causeway in NorthHook about halfway between the Northgate and the Bridge it is... very close to the New Life Temple."

Didi Hosea quickly chimes in to answer Angus' question. She moves aside her green cloak with the number 877 prominent on the left breast as she bites into a sweet miramellon. "There have been very little actions against the Block or even between neighbors since the Protectors 452 were anihillated. Seems the Protector 823's reputation has kept anyone from escalating to a challenge, and that has been, what, four or five years ago! This last year, the Protector 877 was formed as a visible presence to back up the 823's reputation. And since the time you all came through three months ago, we've been getting lessons from some of your old friends, and getting pretty good ourselves." She straightens proudly.

"That reminds me", interrupts her father, and Sieur Hosea's eyes glitter with a secret that only he and Madame Orchid seem to know. "You have organized and led the Protectors 877 well, my daughter, and you often are out of our homes and no longer under our roofs." His voice heavy with emotion, Sieur Hosea stands and performs a precice bow to his daughter, as Didi's eyes go wide with surprise. "You and all your friends are more citizen than many, and you deserve it so, Madame Didi." With a whoop and a squeal, Madame Didi flings herself into her father's arms and gives a great hug, then steps back, her mind already thinking ahead. "We'll need to find a place for the group, then", she begins and then raises her eyes at the apartements on the second floor...

The mercurial flare of temper, as quickly as it had come, is as swiftly gone.

"It's like we could talk to each other in our heads, Angus. Didn't matter how far away we were from each other. But now it's gone."

The rogue flushes red when Firn'gaer speaks, though it's hard to tell under the dark pigmentation of her skin. "Um, Wynn's not my husband. We, uh ... Not that I wouldn't wanna marry him. But he's not the marrying type, if you know what I mean, Fernie? Maybe. Someday." There is a momentary wistful look in her eyes. "But if someone could do the scry thing, that would put my mind to ease. I got some presents he gave me, and maybe I can dig up some bits of hair."

*******************************

"I'm so happy for you." The keen eyed rogue catches the glance from the eyes of Didi Neighbor Girl Hosea. Not so sure what just went on, but girls gotta stick together. "Hey, you know, one problem we had with the Crimson Shields was getting someone to look after our place while we were gone. We got enemies, and anyone looking to stay at our place was also looking to maybe get killed down."

"But ... if you were to get a group in here that could take care of themselves, then I think that some of the security worries you Chaos Guys were talking 'bout might be settled. I mean, I'm not really one who's got the right to offer, but if you was to offer some space, lets say, upstairs, for Didi's group to stay, they could help pertect the place while you were away."

"And speaking of Trade, Elfie Battle Leader here - what did they say your name was? Trace? - I heard him talking 'bout trade with ... giants and taurs and mermaids. (Is that right? Did I hear you right?)"

"I was thinking about what you make here that might be good trade goods for such folks. For perzample, you ever thought of trading 'round them reading gems? I never seen anything like that anywhere. I bet you could sell them all over the place."

"I gotta talk to you Sieur Alad anyway 'bout them deaders he seen. Maybe he'll know what we can do about the trade goods. You tell all your folks, you see any of them deaders, stay away. You get touched or scratched by them and you get infected."

"Now we gotta find a way to contact the Shields," she says. "Maybe they found a cure for it by now."

(Gather Information: 26 - To get opinions on what might be good trade items with the groups Trace mentioned.)

After all the story-telling, Jurgen disappears to a hidden corner of the warehouse briefly. When he comes back, he is no longer wearing his full set of combat gear. Instead, he looks as if he is ready for a quite expensive party. He also comes back with a case of the sniffles and, upon realizing this, takes the time to stay at Rash's Heroes Feast to help cure them. He wants to speak up after Xenia's story and try to comfort the woman, but, for once, Jurgen is unable to find the necessary words. Instead, the young man remains quiet and takes in Orchid, Hosea, and Randell's words. And he congratulates Madame Didi on her gain and (providing Jurgen properly understood her) whispers to Peerimus, "Having some who would take up permanent residence here would likely be helpful to us." and, if the druid agrees, adds to Madame Didi, "if you are looking for a proper place for your Protectors, I'm sure this warehouse has room enough for the two of us. Considering that we are really Heranmar locals, you will likely have the place to yourself."

When the next day's sun rises, Jurgen is up and about. He goes through his usual daily task of casting Greater Magic Weapon into his sword and preparing his gear, but he hardly looks to be ready for battle. His armor is glammered to show three symbols. First, the holy symbol of Domi. Second, the Chaos spiral of the tattoos. And third, the Protectors 823 number badge. If it wasn't for his sword, he might even be able to pass as an average, if not wealthy, citizen. Before he heads out, he offers to take Xenia and Angus to the Temple of the Crones if Firn'gear or Archimedes prove unwilling.

His day is spend out and about, trying to find information on the various groups the Children have encountered recently: the taurs, the giants, and the Mailed Fist [Gather Information - Scratch those rolls. Jurgen will take 10, since he has all day. - 17, 17, 17]. He has no qualms about using his status as a Paladin to his advantage here, nor using his magic to grease the wheels. While Trace will handle the actual scouting, Jurgen wanted to know how they were getting along as members of the Southern "community".

While this is the obvious purpose of his day and he doesn't try to hide it, Jurgen also has a more secretive motive, which he does with a slightly altered costume and face via Alter Self [Disguise Check - Can I take 20 on it or only 10? If 20, it's a 37. If 10, it's a 27]. He wants to spread word of the coming Migration. A matter of preparation. When it came, Jurgen wanted people to be as ready as possible. To that end, he begins spreading a slightly altered version of the prophecy that the Children keep hearing: "Beware the future and hear our plea / The signs are there for those who see / Tower of Light with anger will leave / Noble Race hammer and bow will cleave / Gates be many, gates be none / Before the Great Migration is done / Yet beware the side that seeks not change / For they will be dangerous, when lands rearrange". He doesn't hestitate in mentioning the references to Star Mages, to the almost Elf-Dwarf war [This seems to be a combination of Diplomacy: d20+20=30, Perform: d20+7=10, and reverse Gather Information: d20+7=8].

Rash enjoys listening to the conversations and meeting the new block members. She withholds any comment about sharing space with another adventuring group since she herself is a newcomer. The next morning she rises and does her normal routine of casting spells and prayer and then decides to explore the area popping into the stores on the block and seeing what kind of restaurants and taverns are in the area.
She takes notice of the brewers since she enjoys brewing her own beer and will talk shop with anyone who is interested. She will pop in on the stores of the folks who she shared breakfast with yesterday and get a feeling on their business's. Finally she will wind her way back to the catacombs to purchase the supplies she will need to write the scrolls she is planning. That afternoon she will start writing some scrolls.

Angus enjoys all the new people coming and going and it looks like the warehouse will not get new residents as well. "There will be no end to our friends." Angus mutters as he smiles to himself.

Angus will move over to Xenia and comments "If you do not mind, I want to tag along and see how the Shields are going as well. When was the last time you looked in on Kay and Buckle as well?"

When walking past Kazak Angus adds "We may have to practice some magic on you when I return from the scrying. We have to see how you and your brother fight as Giants. You did well as gargoyles, now we have to try something real big and bad." Angus winks as he moves off and adds "Its best we practice on an empty stomach."

As Xenia's tirade plays itself out, the dwarf warrior nods as though he was expecting the response. "Take it easy girl, just had ta be sure. If ye are no friend to drow or orcs and ye like a good ale then ye will do just fine by me."

Durgan takes a long swig from his mug of ale. "I'm sorry to hear about yer heritage. I don't like to think that someone who has a drow or orc or elf parent came about in a bad way, but sometimes it happens. The only way to make up for it is ta make sumthin of yerself, and ye seem to have done that." Durgan tips his mug and drains it, then goes for a refill. "Care to join me?"

Peerimus asks that Protector Group 823 be kept in the loop on the Star Mage investigation. "The inside loop. Hook City will need to play a far stronger role on the Southern Continent in the future." The druid conveys his plans for regular trips into Hook City continuing long after the initial investigation of the Star mage tower incident is ended. Peerimus then asks about the Mailed Fist contingent he knows that has been employed by Hook City. How they are handling themselves and if there is anything Blinkus can think of that has seemed out of sorts concerning them. Peerimus is also interested in the New Life Temple and talk of some well spring in the Sawgrass. Citizens stalking off to quest for the center of the Sawgrass is dangerous enough, but looking for open water under the guise of being granted immortality. As a Protector, Peerimus conveys his concern over the safety for the good citizens of Hook City and of Mud City as well. "Ah one last thing Prefect, I noted the specific listing of the tree as the location of magical transit in and out of the city. Can we take that to mean the courtyard is the arrival and departure location, or does the writ demand something more specific?"

Upon finishing his discussions with the Prefect, Peerimus joins the others without apparently having missed any of the conversations and having been able to keep up with all of them. His first words are to Xenia, "That is certainly a possibility, but he will have ample cover and his own survival instincts. His place is in the wilds, not here in a cage." Peerimus congratulates Didi and extends an official invitation to her and Protector 877 to reside full time in the upper apartments. "We would be delighted if you were to stay and call this place your home."

Peerimus makes a note mentally to at least have someone speak to Alad, owner of The Transport Control Company. After the Migration he would need to be amongst the first contacted to reestablish ties. He may also have further information on the happenings in the Sawgrass and this now apparently spreading plague. Another mental note is taken to speak to Mother about the area immediately around Hook City.

Peerimus encourages Xenia and Angus to speak to Alan and what the man might know of the 'deaders'. Privately he conveys to Xenia that if she is able, slip into the conversation this temple of New Life and suggest a connection. Peerimus is not above spending coin to furnish the area , but he also his own skill and magic for bulk basics and announces that he would like to have the shop opened down the street. He also mentions an idea for the upstairs apartment, but wishes to hammer out details with the CoC in private on it. To the shop he was thinking a small scale emporium, with rare items about the known and sometimes unknown Wold. The CoC come across many trinkets of the mundane but fantastic due to the maker or back story of the item. Proceeds could go to the both Protector groups, 877 and 823 for the betterment of the community they serve. After all the CoC has been to Plataeu City, the Ice Vein and deep below the Plaktid Ocean and have uncovered marvels the Wold over.

There was plenty to do.

On his personal list, Peerimus summons several Djinni converting a few spells to SNA VII as needed to get 4 castings of Major Creation from them. Each casting creates 20 cu. ft. of wood and since it was Djinni who performed the spell, the wood is permanent. Peerimus plans to use his Wood Crafting skills and Wood Shaping spells to craft some furnishings. Wood panel privacy dividers for rooms, perhaps a grand banquet table, book cases, chairs and dressers and such.

Peerimus will also cast several Commune with Nature spells after departing Hook City to get outside, perhaps the tree line outside of Mud City. He uses 3 spells to gain the knowledge on every subject mother will convey. The plants, minerals and bodies of water in with 16 miles. The same about the people, the general animal population, presence of woodland creatures, presence of powerful unnatural creatures and the general state of the natural setting.

Peerimus will also be spending time in one of the apartments, about 8 hours a day. Over the course of 3 days he adds Counter Spelling to his ring of Sustenance (cost 3,000gp and 125 xp). He spends another 3 days adding +2 Health bonus to his Periapt of Wisdom (cost 3,000gp and 125xp) Another 3 days adds +2 Wisdom bonus to Yorrick's Amulet (cost 3,000gp and 125xp)

Peerimus will then begin crafting a special set of bracers for Yorrick. Starting with crafting Bracers of Armor +4 taking 8 (Cost 8,000 and 320 xp)

The druid will also look into purchasing a Bracelet of Friends with only 1 or 2 charms left on it (Normal price is 19k but lists at 25% off for each charm under 4)

Peerimus will also visit two stripes and attempt to Awaken both of the children
Officially Peerimus will choose one of the lower apartments for himself and Yorrick and spend 100gp in decorations

Peerimus will give thought to the idea of creating a garden, perhaps an atrium of sorts, with a small stream, grass, other small trees and plants, especially a few fruit trees and perhaps a small vegetable garden area at one end

Peerimus will speak to the others in private about the room above the shop. "I propose we create a highly secure area. It can act in part as a vault, a war room and a place of complete privacy. Rash, Firngaer and Angus will need to be at the forefront on securing it.

Conversation continues during the morning, but by noon, the visitors have thinned out, and the dispositions have begun. Blintz has assigned a troop of personnel to the CoCs part of the case, and they are very thourough. The individual dispositions with a Candle of Truth and a Paladin nearby is only the start. Scrying into the past and other divination spells nearly run amok, and then there are the scribes and barristers who come by for 'just a question or two' in the days and weeks after...

The presumed 30 days that the Children of Chaos spend in the vicinity of Hook City actually take 44 Days all told. Yet the Children of Chaos are hardly only taken up with the investigation; there is plenty of time to pursue each of thier own interests. And with so many things that they need or want to do, the Children of Chaos have plenty to keep them occupied during thier enforced stay in Hook City.
.........................

Heranmar

Peerimus and Trace (and anyone else who wants) makes more than one trip to Heranmar. Many of the CoC have claimed Heranmar, that coastal town of the Gateway Downs, as thier home. And besides, the CoC are hired as Protectors of Heranmar and the surrounding countryside as well!

Selenie Quendeck and the Council meet with the CoC warmly. Because there are new members of the CoC, Selenie re-introduces the new town Council.
Selenie Quendeck. Council Head and Councillor of Defense. A retired paladin and once protector herself, Selenie is still striking though gathering her years about her. Blonde-and-white hair fall to her waist, her blue eyes framed in a tan and wrinkled face that has seen horror and laughter in equal measure.
Bunwit the Fisherman. Councillor for the seagoing trades. A rake-thin ancient man, his leathered skin and deep hoarse voice attests to his life on the water.
Harrin the Merchant. Councillor for the town trades. Bookish man in his thirties, he speaks little but has a keen eye and manages property, goods, and monies with equal ease.
First Daughter of the Crones. Councillor for the Powers. A woman of indeterminite age, she has a faraway gaze but when she talks in her soft voice, the others listen.
Tap Goodfellow. Councilor for the farmers and people outside Heranmar. Cheerful and talkitive, the halfling is the only non-human on the Council. Several of the CoC already know Tap as his brother was once an adventurer with the Southern Lights.
Chester the INNkeeper. Councilor At Large. Again known by the CoC, Chester was selected as a genial man whose time in the INN can hear just about everything that goes on. His bald head beams as he is introduced.

The Council has good reports to make with the town watch, the fishing, and the CoCs endeavors for the town. There have been no other sightings of the wolves or giants, and Heranmar has made contact with the Centaur tribe and the town of Wayfarer with intent to have more regular liason. The fishermen are being very quiet about the possibility of tritons in the water, but Bunwit does report there's one fishing boat that has been able to catch sighting once in a while. The quarry is being cleared and has already provided some smaller filler stone for the town walls. They are sorry to hear of Savin's death, and the Council promises help to the monk-school Savin founded.

Around Heranmar and Gateway Downs

Peerimus is quite busy, ensuring his grove is in good order (it is), and Wanderwood reports the people of the town have kept away from the center of the grove, "althhhoughhh sssome of thier sssaplingsss hhhave been leaving ssseed-cakesss and hhhand-made dream-catchhhersss at a ssstone near the entranssse." Wanderwood thinks it is a good sign as long as they are not too noisy about it.

Peerimus visits Two-Stripe and Awakens her children as he promised nearly a year ago. The Badger is very happy, and the family agrees to even move to the northern edge of Peerimus' Wood. "Every skill we have is yours for the asking, Wise One.", Two-Stripe declares to the vigorous nodding of the other three Badgers.

Trace is able to make several circuits of the farms and woods surrounding Heranmar, ensuring his circles bring him out of Heranmar at dawn and return but a few hours after dark. He meets many of the farmers and woodsmen of the area, and makes contact with the Centaur tribe to the east. The Centaurs have a small tent in thier area that is occupied by one of the men of Heranmar. "I'm the semi-permenant liason from Heranmar to the centaurs", the man explains. "The Council has been thinking that knowing a little more about the people around us may be a good idea." He winks at Trace. "I think they got that idea from you Protectors, eh?"

Rash has opportunity to visit her family in southern Gateway Downs. Happily, Hook City is within Teleport distance of the farm. Many happy hours are spent with kith and kin, catching up on the goings on at the farm and abroad.

Time

The days have passed. All necessary trips to the Catacombs are complete (ooc: remember to get DM approval prior to using), all scrolls or other fabrications are also complete. (ooc: send list to DM to get approval. I have approved Rash and Peerimus.)

Newt and Artifact Piece

Peerimus wants to release Dar-the-Newt into the wild, reasoning that there will be less chance of the spell upon him becoming reversed than if he is here where many high powered magical effects can occur. However, since Xenia has made a lovely little planetarium, the druid-leader has not insisted on the change-and-release program. Currently, Dar-the-Newt is still decorating Xenia's apartment.

The Artifact Piece is transported to the hidden valley under the watchful eye of the friendly Dryad (ooc: met in CoC Archives Volume 28, Chapter 4), but Peerimus is in for a small shock... The Dryad has a very interesting story to tell. "The dawn of the morning after you all killed Ohzone and took his treasure, I was walking the edge of my woods, when a terrible thing happened. A silver string pushed out of the desert ground and attached itself to the blue dragon, and then the dragon got up! The string faded out, and I saw Ohzone twisting his head back and forth like he was fighting something, and then he stopped. The dragon said two words and then flew off." Even in her distress, the Dryad is playful, and waits for Peerimus to ask the obvious question before replying... "he said, 'Yes, Master'."
...........................

The Warehouse

The warehouse-cum-headquarters becomes extremely busy for the month and a half that the Children of Chaos inhabit it. Apartments are occupied and furnished, some going for self-creation, and some shopping around the Block to help out the local economy as well as generating goodwill. A well-to-do apartment with all the furnishings and decorations and all supplied by outside purchases hits the pocketbook for around 1,000 gold pieces. Using Peerimus' method of only buying decorations, 200gp do well to occupy the walls. Of course, a bedroll and wooden box for a chest costs nothing...

Madame Didi turns down Kazak's offer of a stipend. "Spend it yourself, Sieur Kazak. We are being paid right nicely by Block 452 for our duties since your Protector group didn't want the chits to go along with the job." She looks around the warehouse with a satisfied look on her face. "Turning out to be a quite a great solution, too!"

The Protectors 877 are overjoyed at being able to use the warehouse for their headquarters as well, and within a week, the entire team is sharing three of the apartments; one for boys, one for girls, and one for a private meeting area. On the first day of occupation, Madame Didi introduces them all...
Madame Didi Hosea leader of the Protectors 877, her lithe form and easy balance cuts a confident figurespecializes in the sword and speaking skills.
Madame Niobe is Didi's right-hand as well as primary trainer for the Protectors 877. Several of the CoC recognize her as she once wore the Broken Spiral herself for a time.
Sieur Malcomb is a hefty lad with arms like many peoples legs. The son of a blacksmith, he wields a warhammer.
Sieur Sterwirt is nearly identical to Malcomb (being cousins), but is more bloodthirsty, and wields a battleaxe.
Sieur Nephon is recently released from apprenticeship to a local wizard and is a diligent study, though slightly negligent as to his personal appearance. He demonstrates for Firn'gear and Angus that he can cast Yellow level spells by conjuring a Fireball that detonates harmlessly in the cavernous warehouse.
Sieur Vaalin wears the grey hooded robes of a priest of the Crones, and is a very quiet man.
It is obvious that Niobe is by far the most skilled of the team, and that even Niobe is not as experienced as the Children of Chaos (the last couple years have stagnated her breadth of experience). Still, none are complete neophytes either, and they should be able to hold thier own until HookCity Guard are summoned if nothing else.

Peerimus requests that the apartment above the shop across the street become his own as well as the garden behind the shop. The shop itself, he thinks, could become an Emporium of exotic items from the areas where the CoC have been. The proceeds in turn can support the Protectors 877, the warehouse, and the shop itself.
.....................

Nieghborhood and Hook City

Blintz gravely listens to Peerimus and promises he will do what he can to make Hook City understand a need to assist outside of thier borders, though he is dubious about his ability to pull it off. Much easier is the promise to make sure nothing blind-sides the Protectors 823 in the investigation.

As for the magical transportation, Blintz confirms that it includes anywhere covered by the branches of the Sycamore, which is, really, the entire courtyard.

Rash is able to make her way into the hearts (and brewery) of the family in charge of Viands Exotic, and has a great time trading brewing secrets.

Talk of trade and an emporium come up with cautiously optimistic. "There are several such places that work with unusual items from the Sargrass, southern Gateway Downs and eastern Dre Moria", acknowledges Sieur Hosea, "but if you can come up with items beyond that scope, you may have something there." Sadly, the Memory Stones are not for sale by Hook City, and the government would put a stop to the smuggling thereof in short working order.

The Mailed Fist company the CoC met all the way in Heranmar are still employed by the Hook City government, and have been charged with keeping order in MudTown. Though there are several stories about excessive violence in quelling arguments, no one can say that there isn't more order outside the gates of Hook City. Jurgen and others can't find anything... disturbing... about any of the reports.

The Temple of the Crones is a complex of low buildings and foyers accessible from the Causeway in NorthHook. There, any of the CoC are met, welcomed and can ask whatever they wish.

Peerimus camps away from Hook City for a day or so and Communes With Nature, taking in the sights sounds and etcetera within 16 miles from the magical city. Of course, the city itself remains obscure, as well as the Three Forks Inn to the north and similar gray spots to the east and west. Peerimus soon knows there are no large, dangerous monsters in the area (outside the city), and that north of the Three Forks Inn, further into the mountains, there is a good vien of iron and semi-precious stones that are not being worked.
To the South, Peerimus sees pairs, packs, and groups of all the normal Sargrass animals; Blind swallows, Prairie Pigs, Bounders, and Rapke. Oh-ho, there also seems to be individual Manfri in the 'Grass that keep a watch on the environs of Hook City! During his spells, Peerimus finds three things QUITE interesting in the Sargrass south of the city. The first is that underground in the Sargrass, there is little of any minerals, but there are several large tunnels with no occupants. The second is the awareness that the metaphysical plane of the Woldsblood is very, very close to the surface of the Sargrass, almost like it is pushing against the 'Grasses themselves. And the third is that one of the moving druidwood ships is 'manned' completely by unnatural creatures; Undead! The ship is headed south and before the spell ends, the ship is away and lost to the druid's awareness.

Other Loose Ends

Xenia and Angus can have Firn'gear, Rash, or even Peerimus scrying the Big Float to get to see Wynn. Any of the other CoC who want to watch are also able to see the spectacle. Over the course of several scryings, the two expatriates can catch glimpses of Wynn and the Crimson Shields. Heroes who look at the scrying Highlight to display spoiler: { Heroes can use the Crimson Shields board from 12 Jan 2009 to 15 February 2009 as known knowledge. It appears the Crimson Shields have been joined by a group of Taurs! }
Xenia only Highlight to display spoiler: { whether Xenia and Wynn can communicate is up to Crimson Shields DM, pending his instructions on what information you are able to get. Any info recieved is approved for dissemination.}

Jurgen uses his magic and persuation to try and spread the word about the coming Migration. Quixotically, he steadfastly refuses to believe that no one will listen and continues his whisper campaign. Frighteningly enough, the biggest response the paladin gets is when he is on the Causeway in NorthHook and among the Temple section. It seems there are many places where a marble block, or gazebo, or podium is set up where anyone can shout out thier convictions. When Jurgen tries this, he actually gets a crowd. Over the days, the crowd becomes a following, and by the end of the month, Jurgen sees a troop of his most loyal converts to the Great Migration have taken over one of the abandoned temples. Some are organizing, some are standing on thier own marble blocks preaching the coming Great Migration, and a dozen are dancing in a circle in the foyer singing... "It's the end of the Wold as we know it, and I feel fine!"

Sieur Alad seems to be out of the city for most of the month, but is due to be in very soon.

ooc: Whew! :-) I hope I got everyone's interests and questions. If I missed anything, please just post it again and I'll write up "Loose Ends, Part 2" :-)

Also, hope the time off for the heroes is welcome as well as seeing the effect of the CoC efforts in the areas of Heranmar and Hook City.

"Well, I guess you'd know what newts want, Peerimus," Xenia replies to the Chaos Guy Druid, "I mean being a Druid Guy and all. But, I mean, long as you can talk to him, whyn'tcha ask him where he wants to live?"

The complement of Protectors 877 comes as something of a surprise to the girl rogue. It's CLEAVAGE GIRL! The chesty busty half elf who made a play for Wynn when the Chaos Guys showed up at the Giggling Ghost. Wondered where it was she went to.

"Hi. 'Member me?" Xenia gives her signature hand wave with a tightly controlled smile. Aside from that, she says no more to the Madam Niobe.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Wynn! Xenia's heart leaps when the magic scrying picture shows the Shields, and, in the middle, Wynn. "That's them!" she points. There's another Cow Guy there in addition to Brahmah. And other guy she doesn't know. Guy with a crossbow. "Watch them deaders. See how fast they move? No matter how fast you are, they always seem to move before you do. They touch you, and you become one of them. Takes a while. But you turn into one of them too."

"WYNN!!!" The red-headed rogue screams as loud as she can with her mind. "WYNN! IT'S ME, XENIA! CAN YOU HEAR ME?"

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Life in Hook City settles in, and the girl rogue spends the time getting to know the town. There are flurries of shopping. Buying goods for her room at the Chaos Guy warehouse, one of them special woven rugs, a comfy bed, nice curtains, and something she's always wanted: a great big mirror. In between the flurries of shopping, the rogue finds her way to the cultural spots. There's nothing here like the great Temple of Light in Plateau City. But it's interesting here, in an earthier sort of way.

It's a weerd place that's got no gods. Not that she's ever been one much for gods. But its' just kinda bizarre not to have them around. It's like the sky suddenly not having color no more. Asking around, she finds her way to the two temples that gnome, Mingeebottom, mentioned. The Temple of the Crones and the New Life Temple. Temple folks never seem to get tired of telling you 'bout the stuff they worship. She tags a few at each temple and asks them 'bout how they see the Wold. What do they worship, and what do the folks who worship their stuff get out of it? (Gather Information 11)

The trips to the little town of Heranmar with Peerimus and Trace are interesting. Nice little town. And she thought Turtle Lake was big. The Ocean just outside of the town walls just never stops. And the smell is filled with the tang of salt. Several times a day, the girl rogue would make a trip to the docks and peer out to sea, searching for signs of Trace's Mermaids. (Spot 34)

All in all, though, nice as it might be, the walled town is ... a bit small and a bit too quiet for the girl rogue. Nice woods nearby, though. And while she's in town, she barters for some wood seasoned just right for a new bow and arranges for the transport of a crafting table to be delivered to the warehouse back in Hook City.

All in all, it's nice to be back in Hook City she thinks as she works on freeing the shape of the bow from the piece of wood. At least until she can find some way to get back to Floating City. Some way to get back to Wynn.

(Craft Bowyer Composite Shortbow 36 & 30 takes 2 weeks to craft. Masterwork component: 32, 26, 36, 42 takes 4 weeks to craft.)

Question: Do you want us to actually go to the Catacombs? (Where service is rather slow, I might add.) Or can we just run our purchases by you?

Durgan
Tuesday February 10th, 2009 10:31:39 PM

OOC- Great posts Steve! Would anyone like to volunteer to add these posts to the CoC section of the wiki? I think it would be a great addition for there.

Durgan spends some time at Heranmar working at the forge with the town smith. In Hook City, he furnishes his apartment, and acquires all the tools and supplies he needs to operate a forge at the warehaouse. He makes a few minor basic items to test out the forge, and donates them to the group's new store to be sold.

A quick trip to the Catacombs will be taken care of as well.

Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166  d20+30=46 ;
Tuesday February 10th, 2009 10:52:14 PM

Peerimus greets Niobe warmly and expresses he gladness that she seems much more at peace with herself and the city than she ever did travelling with the CoC

Ohzone raised from the dead and enslaved and now a ship of undead heading into the sawgrass. Do the empty tunnels have a connection. Could some mighty burrowing creatures of the sawgrass have been taken like the dragon? The Woldsblood was another matter adn one the druid had little if no knowledge about. That he would pose to the others and gather thier thoughts. Perhaps it was tied to this temple of Life and the rumors of the well of immortality. Things to ponder.

Back in Heranmar peerimus speaks with Two Stripes and Wanderwood. He asks Xenia to not intrude into the deeper wood, but does describe her to Wanderwood so in case her curiosity gets the better of her the great tree will simply let her be. "Be friendly if she arrives, but ask her to heed my request and depart." are his instructions to the mighty sycamore. With Two Stripes Peerimus broaches the subject of officially teaching them the ways of Mother and Father Wold. "It would not be so formal as to be instruction nor so structured, but?" The druid ends in a shrug "Something to think on." He also tells them of Wanderwood and the safe haven that lies in the center of the wood, where his magic would protect them and the wood itself from fire. And he tells them of Wanderwood.

Peerimus will scout out one of the tunnels to see if he can get a better idea. Taking flight as an eagle he soars high above until he comes to be above one of the tunnels. Landing, Peerimus shifts into a large Earth elemental and descends through the earth and into the tunnel. There, he spends 30 minutes or so examining it to learn what the earth might tell [Survival 46]

Peerimus decides for now to let the Manfri be, they watch their borders and thier was nothing wrong of such things. The Sawgrass seemed to be the nexus upon which things would be hinged and to that affect the group may need to act and most assuredly should be informed. To that, he convenes a meeting within the next few days to speak to the CoC, preferrably without Protector 877.

"My friends, my investigations about Hook City all point into the Sawgrass. I detected a ship of Undead headed south, great tunnels with no occupants and the Woldsblood of the shadow realm so close that I could detect it under the Sawgrass. And perhaps realted, probably so, Ohzone has been raised from the dead and dominated in some fashion. The dryad saw this and heard him say "Yes Master' after an apparent struggle against some binding spell most likely. Any news from the temples about the Sawgrass and the new cult. Well not the newest one, I think the cult of The Great Migration and the End of the Wold is not an immediate threat." the last peerimus adds with a small grin directed towards Juren.

(ooc: great post steve!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(a couple of extra loose ends , Trace's new animale friend, questions on the efforts of building a volunteer army in time of war)
Trace, while in Hernamar with his time in the woods is looking for a new animale companion.(not sure on the rules, can this be a 7th level or 14th level for the ranger?) He makes his way through the woods looking in on creatures and talking with nature keeping his eyes open for possible help. (spot 33) When he passes wanderwood grove he takes the time to use a plant growth spell to help the vegitation and also will use the spell when he can on area farms as well. Trace makes his way to the docks that he came in on so many years ago to seek the fisherman that has made contact with tritons. He ask to be taken to the spot to speak with them again and explains how the coc had helped them and hopes that the town will begin trade with the tritons and foster a friendship. Trace also stops in and checks on Savin's school and then makes his way to the town guard on their trainging and everyday duties. He will also give the Sargent at arms a feather token of a bird to send word if they are needed and explains that this might be a slow message and will find out if help is needed if there is a quicker way of contact.

Wednesday February 11th, 2009 8:34:38 AM

Angus accompanies Rash on one of the trips to Henemar so that he can now also teleport to the town as necessary.

Angus will take time to wander Hook City and Henemar to get a lay of the land during the 44 days.

Angus will spend time with Archemides to learn how to shape energy and to assist the mage with restructuring the Star Mage Guild and get as much information on disgruntaled mages.

Diplomancy 25
Local Knowledge 12 (no luck)

Angus will visit the Catacombs to check on his purchases.

Angus will turn Kazak and Durgan into stone and frost giants to have them get used to the form. "It looks good on you two, much better than Gargoyles."

One night when the group is together, Angus will pull out his silver flute and play for the group.

Angus is a bit nervous and does an acceptable job, but not his best work. Angus attempts to encourage Xenia to dance to take the notice of his play.

Jurgen
Wednesday February 11th, 2009 12:10:17 PM

Over the month, Jurgen is extremely busy with his growing cult. He recognizes that it has gotten out of hand, but feels some responsibility towards them. After all, he started it.

He also takes the time to get to know Xenia, Angus, and Rash. He does his best to make them feel like full and welcome members of the group and, hopefully after a long month of being together in the Hook, they do. He updates them on his background, both before the Children and after. And, if they are willing, hears about their own histories. He spends no time at all trying to convert them, since that had never really been the paladin that Jurgen wanted to be.

Knowing that the Children were stuck in the city, Jurgen doesn't rush to get to the Catacombs. Eventually, he makes it to the magic shop and spends his hard earned gold.

---

As the days grow more restless, Jurgen can feel another adventure coming on. He has a hard time concentrating on the mundane events of the city and his mind keeps wandering to the tidbits of information about the on-goings of the Continent. And when Peerimus calls a meeting of the Children, Jurgen knows that his days of wandering the city withou a sword in hand were over. It was time to get back to work.

---

Jurgen tilts his head downwards when Peerimus talks about the Cult of the Great Migration. He holds back a small laugh too. "Aye... The other cult. Well, I can have word out to see if Ganness is free to take us out there. The Grass Swift was a good boat and, if available, I'd like to stick with friends. Especially considering the possible dangers of what we're dealing with out there."

............................

Heranmar

Trace takes his time exploring the environs around Heranmar. He is mildly surprised one morning to find he is sleeping next to a rather intelligent animal. The beast follows Trace around for the next few days, and it becomes obvious to the Ranger that the animal just picked Trace as a Companion! (ooc: Pick any animal from the 7 level or below for Trace's companion and add to your CS)

Trace also asks the Council about building a volunteer army in time of war. "One step at a time", is Selenie's reply. "We have only just begun speaking on a regular basis with Wayfarer and some of the nomadic tribes of Ignoble Races in the area. If I spoke too soon about raising an army, they would want to know what I'm going to do with it. Fear of a conquorer and loss of local freedom means we must be gradual."

Peerimus works as much as he can with Two-Stripe and Wanderwood. The badgers agree to listen to the druid, but think that nature IS. They already know all they need about Ebyron and his Gift of awareness.

Xenia enjoys herself in Heranmar, but is happy to get back to a real city. Despite a fantastic set of eyes, there is no ripple that indicates the rogue has seen a triton. Trace has no better luck. Besides Bunwit the Councilman himself, all the fishermen flatly deny ever seeing anything except fish. That they are lying is obvious by looking at the local market and seeing the triton-made trinkets for sale, but it looks like the fishermen want to keep thier secrets.

Trace builds more goodwill with Savin's School and the Town Guard.

Angus learns that it is a Teleport spell away from Rash's family farm, but it takes a Greater Teleport to make it to Heranmar. Nevertheless, he gets his bearings and can now go to either site as long as he has the spell available.

Hook City

Dar-the-Newt with Peerimus' insistance, Xenia agrees to release the newt. The rogue and druid rent a rowboat for a day and downstream of Hook City for several miles before finding a shaded and rocky moss-covered bank. There, Dar-the-Newt is released into the wild to let nature take its course.

Niobe's eyes go round at seeing Xenia, but then she smiles in a sultry manner. "Hard to forget you or your man, honey", she replies with a hip flick. Yet it is only a moment and the act is lost and Niobe laughs good-naturedly, her ample bosoms stretching against her black leather vest. "Don't worry, I promise to leave him alone. Me and my large ... cleaving weapons." And at that she darts a conspiritorial glance at Peerimus, inviting Xenia to share in the druid's naivette.
Niobe continues to Xenia and Peerimus and, surprisingly, to herself. "Yes, I seem to have found a home here. It's exciting, but without the fear of having friends killed at any moment. And... I may have found myself as well."

Xenia completes the crafting of her bow.

Peerimus with help from his friends is able to make a beautiful mini-grove in one corner of the warehouse. The windows above provide plenty of light during the day, and with cunningly draped vines, it can make one feel as if they were in the middle of a jungle, not the middle of a city.

Peerimus takes a day to go to the nearest tunnels and take a look around. He can tell the tunnel is old, very old, and looks similar to what he would thinks ants or other organized insects would have made. The druid is certain they have not been touched in centuries and so is unlikely to have anything to do with the current events. What they are?.... maybe only an expert in Sargrass History could say.

The Temple of the Crones When the heroes visit the temple, they find it is a place of Luck and Knowledge. Seers, sages, and oracles are most powerful when they revere the Crones and listen to the Whispering Voices. It is said that the Crones oversee the changing times and are most active in the Gateway Downs, though thier whispers can be heard all over the Southern Continent. The older CoC members can remember they got some of their best (and some of their most cryptic) advice when they asked the Voices (the name of the Priests of the Crones)

The New Life Temple A group that preaches a new life free of care, if only the listener will let go of thier petty concerns and embrace the New Life. Pilgrimages are set up to go out to the Sargrass and return with joyful purpose. The main speaker is a very charismatic man, and there are many listeners. He urges these pilgrimages, and only those who have successfully gone on a pilgrimage can enter the inner Temple and recieve the Enlightened Word.

Meeting
With most of everyone's individual interests set up or complete or able to run on without them for a while, Peerimus calls a meeting of the Children of Chaos to discuss what everyone knows and what are the next steps for the group.

Xenia (AC27, HP86/86)
Wednesday February 11th, 2009 10:29:14 PM

"You know, our bit of jungle is always tryin' to kill us," Xenia says from her place lounging in the outer fringes of Peerimus' inside forest. "The Crying Woods don't seem to like most anybody." hehe. "Kinda weerd to lay down under all these vines and not have them try to eat you."

She sits up, an intensely thoughtful look on her face. "Hey, anybody else think that it's kinda funny that them New Lifers are telling folks that they need to go out into your Sargrass Place? If anyone said I had to go out into the Crying Woods and come back with new purpose, I'd tell 'em that they were Wacky Fruit Bears."

"Weerd too, that seems the only place we've heard of them Deaders being, don'tcha think? Hey! And now that you mention Woldsblood, it come to me where I seen that shining pool in the Control Room in Undercity. It was Woldsblood. 'Member? From the scrying? That's what it's gotta be. We seen Woldsblood too. Remember, Angus? When we went to get Lang back from Gargul's place?"

"You couldn't see it from the scrying, but when you're blinking you can see that each one of the deaders is connected to the pool of Woldsblood with a silver cord. Maybe your deaders got the same connection."

"Am I thinking too much on this? Am I thinking too much?"

OoC: BTW, do the New Life priests have any sort of uniform? Wouldn't happen to be red, would it?
DM SteveK: Nope, no distinct uniform at all...

Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166
Thursday February 12th, 2009 7:43:33 AM

"Silver Cord?" Xenia has the druids full attention. "Would you also describe it as a thread?" Peerimus frowns momentarily. "Yes I believe the Sawgrass and your 'Deaders' of Floating City are absolutely connected. I also think that the center of the Sawgrass is the key and this temple of Life is sending people to thier doom." Peerimus sighs and then adds more information. "You see the dryad did not just see Ohzone spring to life. She saw a silver thread come up from the ground and into him. Then he came to life again. and went (DMSteve change) NORTH and that would take him into the Sawgrass."

"I agree Jurgen if we are to go out their I would rather it be on the Grass Swift. Look into it. I also found some great tunnels that may allow us to travel under the Sawgass and not in the terrible heat. I am going to see about finding more information on them. "

Peerimus is going to try and locate who in Hook City he can talk to that has a good grasp on the Sawgrass that he might be able to talk to about the tunnels.

Angus HP 66/66
Thursday February 12th, 2009 8:23:09 AM

Angus is shocked to find out the Henemar is over 1500 miles away and asks Rash on one of the trips to teleport to a town half way between Hook City and Henemar so that Angus can study the location. Angus does not have Greater Teleport so he needs a resting point half way to Henemar.

OOC: What is the total distance between the two towns?
DM SteveK: OOPS. There are 1000 miles between Hook City and Heranmar, so a normal teleport would work after all. And Rash's family farm is about halfway between Hook City and Heranmar anyways, so it'll be 500 miles away from each.

Angus is still stuck in the catacombs.

ooc: can you use the catacombs to travel ?

DM SteveK: I don't know if that question was ever asked before, but for our purposes, the answer is "NO". Assume some magic that allows one to only return the same way they came.

Firn'gaer; See Invisibility, SR18, Tongues
Thursday February 12th, 2009 11:32:44 AM

[OOC - How many days pass? I have a pretty big list of scrolls to pen. I just need to know how many I can pen.]

Firn'gaer does take a small apartment on the first floor. He will spend some coin to decorate and furnish it. He plans on spending about 500 gp for furniture, locks, wall hangings, etc.

Firn'gaer asks Angus if he has Arcane Lock. If so, he ask if Angus would pen him a scroll. In return, Firn'gaer is willing to pen scroll for Angus in return. [Firn'gaer is willing to trade spells with Angus if there is anything he wants.]

Firn'gaer doesn't anything about Wolds blood and will go with the general consensus on what to do.

[Sorry really busy this week.]

Jurgen  d20+7=9 ; d20+7=18 ;
Thursday February 12th, 2009 11:58:04 AM

Jurgen takes in the events, having Xenia's unique outlook providing interesting details that the Children wouldn't have received on their own. The paladin has nothing to add regarding the Deaders, he does speak up about the cult/temple.

"Xenia, there is a great deal on this topic that I know absolutely nothing about. But keep musing. At the very least, it'll provide ideas for us to jump from." And, sure enough, Peerimus then jumps in connecting Ohzone to the Deaders. Jurgen nods approvingly. "Perhaps we need to visit a Temple of Gargul for more answers regarding the Woldsblood?"

"I know the last thing that we want is a full on clash between groups here, but the Cult of the Great Migration could easily be shifted to work against this New Life Temple." He ponders for a moment, debating what would need to be said to the Cult. "Perhaps it would be as simple as having them warn anyone attempting to go on a pilgrimage. I couldn't say for certain what is happening out on the Plains, I'd agree that we should stop it be whatever means necessary."

"I'll ask if the Grass Swift is available." Jurgen heads to the docks to find Captain Ganness and the Grass Swift, to see if they can secure a ride out to the pilgrimage area. And he'll try to ask the Captain about the same tunnels Peerimus is looking into, but he attempts to do so without being direct [Bluff Check - d20+7=9 and Gather Info Check - d20+7=18]. If Ganness is unavailable, he asks around for another Captain. He doesn't specifically request to head to the same place as the New Lifers, instead hinting around for someone willing to do anything "no-questions-asked"

Rash Trinka
Thursday February 12th, 2009 12:01:41 PM

Rash spends most of her time either traveling to her family or locked up scribing scrolls. (ooc I believe that Durgan, Kazak and Xenia all want Rash to scribe some heal scrolls. What level do you want. Standard heal scroll will cost you 825 gps and will cure 110 points of damage. I can go up to 15th level and cure 150 gps but it costs you 1125 gps.

In Rash's spare time, she doesn't seem to get involved with the nesting projects that the others do but does get her room in the warehouse comfortable. In Heranmar , she seems comfortable just renting out a nice room in the local inn on a semi-perm basis paying 6 months at a time. It almost seems see is loathe to set down to many roots and misses her family.

Rash does bring her family to meet the Children for one visit. Her husband whose name is Fredrick, an obvious mage, is much older than Rash and seems to be glad be settled down in semi retirement. He tutors their son Trono who is a sullen looking teenager but who is following his father in the study of magic. They stay a couple of days and all of the Children seem to find themselves alone in a deep conversation with Fredrick who questions seem a bit probing but understandable since his wife has left him to join this group.

Rash will talk to any religious leaders in Heranmar to introduce herself and get a feeling of the religion of the area.

After the 44 days, upon hearing about Peerimus's undead discovery, Rash says to the group, "I think we need to focus on this undead issue. Undead are a bane to the Power known as Gargul and I am sure he would want us to pursue it. I don't like the idea that the undead are actually sailing a ship. That speaks of a level of organization normally beyond the creatures and a powerful master undead or otherwise is directing them. This needs to be nipped in the bud."

Loose Ends and the Meeting (DM SteveK)
Thursday February 12th, 2009 1:54:17 PM

Within the 44 days it takes for the Hook City Government to close the investigation on the destruction of the Star Mage's Guild Tower, there are 30 Days in which magickers can craft, brew, and inscribe magical artifacts.

Assume the Catacombs is done (even though PCs may be there). Players can post on the CoC board concurrently with PC in the Catacombs (or Giggling Ghost, or Tap for that matter)

Loose Ends, Part 3

Kazak furnishes his apartment and assists in making a cistern for the warehouse that supports the indoor garden without need for supervision. He is able to get a family of cats to move in and they soon have the place vermin free. Finally, the sawdust training area is ready for sparring.

Firn'gaer furnishes his apartment and requests a trade of spells with Angus.

Rash spends most of her time either traveling to her family or locked up scribing scrolls. The CoC gets to meet her concerned husband and teenage son. She looks into renting a room for 6-month blocks, and Chester, the burly owner of the INN at Heranmar is only too happy to oblige the Children of Chaos.

Rash (and any other CoC hero) finds that besides Peerimus and his belief in Father and Mother Wold, the only other religious group in Heranmar is a small group of followers of the Crones. The First Daughter of the Crones is on the Heranmar Council, and she is serenely happy to speak with Rash.

During their talk, The First Daughter suddenly stops talking and gets a far-away look in her eyes. "Be ready for thy burden and thy travel, Child of Chaos, for the time is measured in days." The Daughter, unfortuneately, does not remember ever saying these words, but Rash remembers. Especially since her Broken Spiral Tattoo has changed shape!
..................

Meeting
Xenia brings a new perspective of the 'Deaders' that her Crimson Shields were fighting as well as the similarity of Woldsblood in the area of the 'Deaders'.

Trace wonders if all the woldsblood is connected, that the control of the 'Deaders' may come thorugh the Woldsblood?

Peerimus makes a connection with the silver cords, and wants to contact Ganness and the GrassSwift. He also begins to look for more information on the tunnels under the Sargrass.

--Peerimus is able to find a Sage that says the tunnels are probably remnants of the great Oglian civilization, a group of Ant-taurs that ruled the area centuries ago. While there are rumor of the Oglians still around somewhere, no one has seen them for generations.

Jurgen suggests finding a Temple of Gargul to ask about Woldsblood. He further suggests the Great Migration Cult may be used as a counterbalance to the New Life Temple. Finally, Jurgen volunteers to look for Ganness and the GrassSwift or any other Captain as another way to find info on the tunnels and the New Lifers.

--Jurgen soon finds out that Gargul doesn't really have any temples in the area. In talking with the other CoC, they remember Quinn was looking for Gargul temples in the Southern continent before he left the CoC, and that the two largest congregations was a place in the Sargrass called IronHolme (location unknown) and the second was Quinn's own congregation at Threshold.

--Jurgen is able to find a delapitaded temple on the Causeway that claims it worships the Power Gargulus. A single cleric is inside and doesn't look like he has slept in days. When confronted with questions, he bawls on Jurgen's shoulder. "I can't contact Gargul! My spells are gone and the path to Gargul is closed! What am I going to do? What am I going to do?"

--For the GrassSwift, the CoC discover Ganness is away from Hook City, and he didn't leave an itinerary. For other Captains, Jurgen can't find anyone who knows about the tunnels, nor anyone who will share thier knowledge of how to get to places. There are three Captains, however, who say they can take passengers to the New Life Temple's Sargrass retreat.

Rash agrees the undead are the main issue, and then relates what the First Daughter of the Crones said while Rash was last in Heranmar. To prove her point, the cleric holds out her hand and displays the new shape of the Marks of Chaos.

Immediately, each of the Children's tattoos flash and is also in the same shape... the shape of The Bell.

"Thread, yeah. Could be a thread I guess," the girl rogue replies. "A thread's, like, a smaller kinda cord, right? So they're making undead dragons, huh? And it's not just like a disease anymore."

"Well." The dark rogue stands and stretches, long and lithe. "I think I'm gonna have me a look-listen down to the temple of New Lifers," she says. From her pouch she unfolds a large black bandana and binds her red locks up within it. She takes a step into shadows, and then she's gone.

"Oh, by the by." Xenia pops suddenly back into sight. "I saw you magicing your ring there, Peerimus," she says. "I'll pay you if you do that to mine. I was thinking that I'd like that Freedom of Moving spell. That would be really handish, if you know what I mean. What do you think?"

Later, the dark rogue sneaks into the temple of New Life. Making her way from room to room, she notes the movements of the priesty guys in addition to going through all of their belongings. Its usually easy to tell who are the important guys and who are not, by watching the way they act and checking the value of their stuff. For days, the rogue trails the most important of the New Life priesty guys, watching them when they don't know that they're being watched, listening when they don't realize that they are being overheard. Angus HP 66/66
Thursday February 12th, 2009 6:24:56 PM

Angus is spending his time relaxing with his feet up when his hand itches and the Bell is now visible "Well imagine that." Angus comments curiously.

Angus announces "Did everyones tatoo change and does anyone know the significance of the bell?"

Angus nods to his new gnome friend "Unfortunately, I have no spell books for you to peruse as I have never used them. I have a few scroll for you to look at if you so choose. My magic comes from deep down inside of me."

Whne Xenia mentions the undead dragon "Isn't that unfair. Dragons are tough enough to kill and you go through all the effort and then they pop back up. Its like changing the rules. Xenia what was the name of the red dragon we had problems with, but finally put in his place?"

Durgan
Thursday February 12th, 2009 8:22:45 PM

"Ohzone? I owe that one a good bit of dwarven animosity. A grudge even. And dwarves don't declare grudges lightly I'll have ye know." Durgan scoops up his axe and heads off to the Catacombs. "Gonna be ready fer that one. We might have other business soon, but I intend to track down that dragon and make sure he stays dead this time."

When Durgan returns, he listens to the various conversations. He fills his mug and drains it. Then he pours another. He shrugs his shoulders and says, "what? I bettin' it might be a bit before I get to enjoy ale again. Just stocking up." When the tattoo acts up, he grumbles. Looking at the tattoo he curses. "Eh? Ye durned tattoo. Ye are not done with me yet are ye?"

Rash Trinka
Thursday February 12th, 2009 11:13:10 PM

Rash holds up her arm showing her tattoo and says, "Mine did! Sort of exciting in a way. The tattoo is sort of like the rooster crowing, telling us it is time to saddle up and get our jobs done." Rash looks at Peerimus and continues, "So what is the plan of action? Do we hunt down the ship? Do we return Xenia and Angus to their old adventuring group and help them slay their foes? We have been sitting here long enough. Someone has rung the bell!" Rash holds up her arm again with a grin.

Kazak -
Thursday February 12th, 2009 11:45:51 PM

Kazak perks up at Ozhone's name ........"Grrr....dat wily big blue flying turkey is alive !!! ..... i'm gonna smash dat critter and end him for good ..." .... as the memory of their last encounter flashes back vividly ....

"I can still feel his lightning bolt strike me .... and next ting i remember is i met dat god of da dead .... Gargul ..... payback is coming ..... "

Visibly angry .... the dwarven warrior stalks off towards the sawdust training area ... picking up a weapon he starts to exert himself ... working off the frustrations of Ozhone being alive again ....

Jurgen  d20+20=33 ;
Friday February 13th, 2009 7:03:31 AM

To the priest who worships Gargulus, Jurgen is sympathetic. He allows the man some time to gather himself before speaking. "With the coming Migration, a great number of things are in chaos, but you can be sure that his Eye is on you. Remain vigilant. Even Powers can be busy and the Great Migration may have Gargulus' hands full dealing with affronts to the natural order. If you wish to do his work, go help the followers of the Great Migration prepare for the trials ahead."[Diplomacy d20+20=33]

When Peerimus returns with "information" about Oglians, Jurgen does his best not to laugh too loud. "I've seen a lot of things in the Wold. I've seen things bright and beautiful, great and small, wise and wonderful. And of all those things, I have seen nothing that would ever hint at a race of Ant-taurs." After he speaks, he realizes that this kind of outlook was exactly what he was fighting against with the Great Migration cult and shuts up.

"Gannes is gone. I've found us a few boats that could take us to their retreat in the Sargrass, but I don't feel terribly comfortable doing that with an unproved captain. Do we have other options?" He asks of the entire group. He also poses another question, this one more to Peerimus, although anyone is free to add their thoughts.

"With regards to the New Life Cult... Should I ask 'my' followers to act as a foil to their actions? I want to act quickly, give myself a day or two before we go if we are to head out into the Sargrass."

Peerimus follows up with questions about the Oglians. Customs, rituals, thier view on the other races, laws and punishment system and about any artifacts they may have left behind. Peerimus uses a cover of leading and archeological expedition down an Oglian tunnel he discovered.

Peerimus glances at his hand The Bell. The druid tilts his head in contemplation on it and he answers Xenia. "I believe we should be expecting more company. The Bell calls out and some will answer, as it did before. The First Daughter says we have, but a few days. Xenia, crafting such a ring will take nearly 4 weeks and costs me far more than gold, but I will think upon it." As the rogue slips off, "Be extraordinarily careful. Do not remove caution with faith in remaining unseen"

Peerimus nods to the dwarven brothers, "He shall not escape." the druid then looks to Rash. "You will be expert against the undead. Xenia you are our best advisor and Jurgen, in your following of Domi have you studied these things?"

"We should put word at the docks or Gannes, in case he does return, that we are looking to book passage. Durgan and Kazak, if you would see to that, listing us as Protector 823. On the 'cult' Jurgan, No I would say absolutely do not ecourage them in any way shape or form. Bad enough they will be proven correct and the repurcussions of that could be rather dire."

"We are going into the Sawgrass. If Gannes is not back before we are ready, we will have to find other means. Be prepared to handle the heat. In the meantime, any of us who can will be attempting to locate Ohzone. We will use our personal knowlegde of him and the tooth Firngaer took to assist our spells."

With the tooth and firsthand knowledge, Peerimus prepares a greater scrying the next day, Heightening it.

Trace perks up at the sound of the bell, "Well..........the bell is a starting point, a gathering point, when it rings, no matter in your mind our out loud all that hear it will be called into the service of chaos. When I heard it was allmost ten years ago this summer. Sir Thomas reached for a handle sticking out of a mud wall and then magic unfoled and the next generation of chaos soldiers were called. Ever since that day it has keep calling out to all of us. Some have left and never returned. I wandered for over a rear and the call had me come running back. The bell is the start.........
