Approaching the Control Room! (DM Cayzle) Monday January 19th, 2009 5:29:14 PM
The party is glad to be free of the water trap, and takes a moment to greet the two heros freed from the force cage.
Syr sees no sign that the two are infected with the undead plague. No black veins, especially.
Belkior confirms that.
Horace seems a little dazed, but begins to rouse himself.
The party presses on, into corridors that are widening. This is -- you guess -- closer to the heart of things. Wynn, blinking into the Realm of Shadows, sees a number of grey cords converging up ahead. They seem to enter a chamber with walls that extend into the Realm of Shadows. You figure it is just a turn or two before you.
Actions on final approach? Spells prepped? Strategy? Prior preparation? Here's your chance, mates! The coming fight WILL be tough!
Wynn [AC=26; HP=66/75] Blinking Monday January 19th, 2009 10:09:51 PM
"Syr, it looks like the cords are converging ahead. It may be the control room. I suggest we prepare. Remember, if I can cut teh cords to any of the undead, they will be stunned for a single round...that's when you big blokes should finish them off. Belkior, is there anything you can do to neutralize the clerics?"
Harley (AC 34; HPs 121 boosted/85 normal) d8+10=14 ; Monday January 19th, 2009 11:18:43 PM
"I have some 3 Align Weapon Scrolls that I can cast someone's weapons before we go in. I also have invisibility purge spell. Should I cast it or will people be invisible?"
If the group takes a moment or two to prep Harley casts the following spells in this order: Align Weapon spells on my companions Invisibility Purge if the group says yes Activate Pearl of Power for Aid and cast it (gain 14 HPs) Death Ward Align Weapon scroll Divine Favor (extended) Divine Power (extended) Righteous Might (extended)
When he is done he stows his rod and grabs a potion.
Otherwise he will hold off from casting if the group decides not to enter the control room.

Florin moves along with the others and has kept quiet for the moment as he wonders about this next fight. The group has beaten down some of it's powers already in the large battles earlier. Either way Florin readies his bow and pulls one of the smoke stick arrows that he had set up, "Syr, once we go in I'm going to try and land one of these arrows as close to any clerics as possible. I'll stay back for as long as possible as you want too."
(Sorry for the silence on my part people.)
Mac AC:24, HP:119/119 Tuesday January 20th, 2009 3:19:48 AM
Active effects: nothing of consequence
Packed and moving Horace along with the group, They've done us a favour, the least we can do is lend a hand. He watches the team ready for trouble. "You'll have your tactics, so I'll try to keep out of your way, but if I can lend a hand, and if you have enchantments that might help me help you, then I would be grateful.
Horace (Martyn) Tuesday January 20th, 2009 4:14:34 AM
Horace was quite stunned by the events of the last day. It had taken him quite a while to adjust to the changed circumstances that he had found himself in. Being trapped in the force cage had worn down his spirits to no end. His companion and guard Mac, seemed to hold up very well under the circumstances but Horace had found it very trying.
Things had looked up when they had been rescued by this new group, especially seeing as Mac seemed to know some of them. They were now advancing towards a room which seemed to hold a great deal of danger, something that Horace was looking forward to.
"I must apologise to you all for my silence but finding myself trapped in that cage of force brought back some rather unpleasent memories. However I've managed to get over my funk and now I offer my services for whatever challenges that we may now face!" stated an exuberant Horace, his broad nose and fierce moustache not able to conceal the smile that broke out on his face.
"What is our plan of attack? Charge into the blighters and lay about with our swords until we win the day?" inquires Horace of his fellow adventurers.
(OOC: Sorry about the delay in posting folks. I still haven't got my character sheet together but I'll have it ready by tommorrow or die trying! Well maybe not die but definitely feel bad. And it is a pleasure to meet you all.)
Syr Ac 35/34 HP 142 Tuesday January 20th, 2009 5:21:53 PM
After everyone finishes preparation, "Okay, everyone ready to go? How about we pair up initially? Mac and Belk, Brahmah and Florin, Wynn and Horace, and Harley with I. I'm open to anything else. Take down one foe at a time and then move on? The big guys have the reach so those pairs stay in the rear until we assess the situation?" He looks over at Harley and comments, "Looking at bit buff there, big guy. You and me up front since we seem to be the most defensive?"
(OOC: Welcome Martyn! Don't worry too much about the character sheet. You can always just make a kamikaze type attack to help the group out *grin*. At the very least the death would buy you time to work on another character sheet AND it's constructive if you take them down with you...)

The halfling cleric looks around at his companions, wondering who needs healing before the coming battle. Belkior starts healing himself before beginning on his companions.
After he has completed his healing, Belkior holds out two potions to his companions.
"I have a potion of Magic Fang +2 that, quite frankly, I will never use. Would you like to use it, Syr? I've also got a Blur potion that someone may be better able to use."
"I can also cast Disrupting Weapon on someone's weapon. Ideally it should go to someone who can hit quite often, even if they don't do a lot of damage. Any takers?

Final Prep and a Sketch! (DM Cayzle) Wednesday January 21st, 2009 5:04:57 PM
Wynn thinks about cutting undead cords. With his adamantine weapon, that seems like a plan. But in the first round of combat he plans to cast Haste.
Harley gets himself really well buffed up! But please keep in mind that you can't stack multiple temporary hit points on yourself with more than one Aid spell.
Florin is ready to lay down some covering smoke.
Mac braces himself and shepherds Horace. The fighter/mage rouses himself and rallies, as he prepares to face the challenge ahead.
[OOC to Horace ... Sheet looks good. Gotta get items picked. You have 66,000 gp to spend. I'll send you some feedback later tonight. But I need you to add your spell book. Start with all cantrips, 7 first level spells and 2 third level spells. You can add more if you pay for them, at 200 gp for a first level spell, and 400 for a second level spell. Also pick a familiar (100 gp cost) and a school of specialization, if you are a specialist wizard.]
Mac AC:24, HP:119/119 Wednesday January 21st, 2009 6:12:55 PM "Haste sounds useful. As for hitting often, it usually only happens if I'm getting swamped, but that's a good thing too." [OOC: 10' Reach + Whirlwind Attack = ::smile:: ] "I'll second Brahmah's call for a Bulls Strength or any augmentation really, but for defensive magic..." he fumbles about in his backpack for a few moments and pulls out a potion "...this is a Potion of Shield of Faith (+2), and it does me no good with my ring, so Brahmah, it's yours if you want it, or someone elses if you don't."
"Any chance we're about to meet up with the unliving?" he wonders aloud.
Florin Jadenth AC:27/29 vs Undead HP:125/134 Wednesday January 21st, 2009 11:57:27 PM
Active effects: Cloak of Displacement (minor: 20% miss chance) Aura of Courage (Immune to fear and +4 morale bonus to everyone in 10ft against fear effects.) Divine Health (Immune to diseases, even super natural ones) Life Shield+2 (Bonus to AC vs Undead) Magic Circle vs Evil *From Belkior*
Florin is ready for the group to move out and keeps his bow ready. He knows that depending he will have to drop the bow and ready his bastard sword and shield but that shouldn't be to much of a problem. Just incase Florin speaks to Brahmah since he is paired with the big taur, "Hey Brahmah, after I fire this arrow with the smokestick I need you to cover me long enough to ready my sword and shield, ok?" Florin wishes he had another use of his bull's strength spell but unfortunetly he used it earlier and a paladin just isn't known for their use of spells.
Florin smiles at the comment from Mac and to the new taur, "I'm pretty sure you can bet on that one my new friend. We been running into a fair number of them as it is. By the way, you guys need to do your best not to get hit, these undead have a disease which they can spread. We are hopeing to kill the cause here and end the problem but just incase you know."
Florin realizes he hasn't introduced himself to the new people so speaks once more, "Ohh, My name is Florin Jadenth of house Jadenth in the Floating City. I'm a paladin in the service of Domi and undead hunter. It is nice to meet you."
Florin stands at 4'11" and is heavily muscled really for a elf. He wears a blueish tinted mithril breast plate and a matching shield that has the symbol of Domi on it. Along with this he wears backpack that usually has his bow and two quivers of arrows attached to it. On his head rests a vizor helmet but when it is off you can see his black hair that is tied back in a pony tail and his ice blue eyes. His weapon of choice also hangs at his side, a mithril bastardsword that has a silver hilt shaped like a dragon with a pair of ruby chips for eyes and the wings outstretched as the guard. When pulled the sword glows faintly and high Woldian runes spell "Glimmer" along the blade. Other then this is his slightly newer cloak of displacement that he wears.
Horace. HP 80/80 Thursday January 22nd, 2009 4:59:32 AM
Reaching over his shoulder for his heavy crossbow, Horace grins at Florin and nods in acknowledgement of the elfs introduction.
"A pleasure to meet you Florin! I think my companion Mac, who also seems to have known some of your group at some point in the past, had a rather valid question. What can we expect to be facing once we enter that room?" asked Horace as he completed loading his crossbow.
"I am all for splitting into pairs once we get inside the room. So who leads the way?"
Harley (AC 34; HPs 132 boosted/85 normal) Thursday January 22nd, 2009 1:19:04 PM

He looks at his partner, "Tripping? Okay." He whispers to Harley, Thinks these two new guys can contribute?" We really don't know what they are capable of when things get rough."
The elf begins to lead the group toward the area Wynn says the cords are coming from. recalling their watery room, he carefully steps down the corridor(spot 24).
Mac AC:24, HP:119/119 Thursday January 22nd, 2009 11:07:06 PM "Florin, Mac, well met. End the problem here - Got it!" "Wynn, what does cutting these cords involve?" Mac steps over towards Paragon Belkior. "I'm honoured to fight by your side and I'm listening for your words Belkior - you know your cohort's tactics better than I do. Guide me, keep me between you and trouble if you need, and if the opportunity presents itself, kindly keep me living."
Wynn [AC=26; HP=75/75] Friday January 23rd, 2009 7:53:15 AM
"I can see the cords when I am blinking. They connect the diseased undead to something or someone and they all seem to be leading here...The cords are very tough, hardened by teh disease I think, but my adamantine sword has no trouble severing them, and when I do so, the undead seem to be stunned for a round, making them vulnerable to everyone else."
Wynn explains what he knows to the newcomers, accepts the potion offered by Belkior, and begins preparing the haste spell.
Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen of Domi (AC 25, Hps 103/126) Friday January 23rd, 2009 1:49:56 PM
"Do you think an invisible person could go around and cut the cords with the sword?"
Wynn [AC=26; HP=75/75] Friday January 23rd, 2009 5:36:28 PM
"If a person were both invisible and blinking they could see the chords and possibly go undetected. The undead are only stunned for a moment by it, so thr timing has to be good between whoever cut's the cord, and whoever attacks the undead. I don't know if the invisibility spell will end by attacking the chord..."
Horace. HP 80/80 Friday January 23rd, 2009 8:38:57 PM
Horace gets a thoughtful expression on his face as he hears Wynns explanation of the grey chords.
"So does that mean we can count how many undead there are in the room if we count the number of chords leading into it? At the very least we can get a rough estimate. As Sergeant Tuskbane in the Village militia used to say 'Horace if you don't bloody know what you're going to be facing then don't bloody rush in like the idiot you are!'. A rather coarse man was Sergeant Tuskbane and his cursing could make a devil blush, but there was nothing the man didn't know about fighting," says Horace as he waits for the rest of the group to follow Syr and Harleys lead towards the room.
Mac AC:24, HP:119/119 Friday January 23rd, 2009 8:39:29 PM "Something in all that doesn't sound good Wynn. Surely that means there are diseased undead behind us, and whatever they are connected to, controlling them maybe, is ahead. I'm assuming you've already discussed this but why aren't we dealing with them first and protecting our flank?", asks the black taur drawing on his own experience with small group tactics.
Wynn [AC=26; HP=75/75] Sunday January 25th, 2009 11:42:02 PM
"Take care of all you want behinds us!" the half-elf replies, "Xenia's somewhere ahead and in trouble and I've got no time for anything left behind" The bard moves towards the door, his impatience beginning to show.
Mac AC:24, HP:119/119 d20+6=14 ; Monday January 26th, 2009 3:20:31 PM "Syrdeth mentioned that name... something about finding Xenia soon. Didn't know it was a person, let alone that they were in trouble. I've got no problem helping people, though I like to know what I'm getting into, and I've got no problem walking into a trap, but others might and they deserve to know ahead of time. Lets get this done.

Horace looks a bit shame faced at Wynns comment.
"My apologies old chap. I didn't know that somebodies life was in the balance. That puts a completely different spin on the old barrel of vinegar," he says to Wynn and the rest of the group.
"Right then let's get in and at them! Forward to victory or a horrible death!" exclaims Horace with a cheeky grin on his face.
Syr Ac 35/34 HP 142 Wednesday January 28th, 2009 12:48:55 AM

OOC (DM Cayzle) Wednesday January 28th, 2009 5:32:38 PM
Looking back over the posts, I can't believe it has been so long since I posted here. I really really apologize. It makes the wisdom of adding Al as co-DM very clear to me. I'm sorry especially to Horace, who deserves a better start to his Wold experience; please don't judge the Wold by my bad example.
Anyway, I'm not going to let real life get in the way of this game any more, at least through the end of this module. After that, Al will be able to help me.
I'm working on the post right now. It should be up shortly.
Apologies, again,friends.
The Center of the Grid! (DM Cayzle) Wednesday January 28th, 2009 5:52:38 PM
Mac considers the advantages of using Haste and Shield of Faith.
Florin is ready with bow, but expects he'll have to drop it after the enemy closes. He considers firing an arrow attached to a smokestick -- accuracy may be off, but you can get it to go in that direction for some distance.
Horace asks what to expect, and talks about keeping in pairs.
Harley warns that he may be tripping some of the enemy.
Mac asks about the cords. Wynn explains. The group considers the advantages of cutting them. Also ... the cords reveal position -- or at least, direction, but not distance -- and so clearly some undead are behind the party. Maybe close, maybe far.
The party talks about Xenia, and where she could be.
==========
The party has left the maze of twisty corridors behind. Wynn feels sure that the central chamber is directly ahead.
I'm assuming that Wynn has reported what he can see from the Realm of Shadows. He says that up ahead is a vast room or complex or section that is rooted in both the Shadow Realm and the Wold. He can see several cords emerging from that area, and then trailing off in different directions.
At this point I need map positionings (please use letters and numbers) and actions. Feel free to act until someone steps out or gets real close to Column Y on the map. At that point we'll go to round by round.

Florin moves along with the group also but stays near the rear for now as Syr had coommented on previously since Florin really doesn't want to risk being controled if Belkior wasn't able to actually remove the spell cast on him before.
Beside this Florin will try to stay where he will beable to hopefully have a relatively clear shot once he spots any cleric/s in the comeing fight.
(Not sure if it is to early or not but went ahead and rolled a attack on the arrow so it's up. If Florin's able he will actually try pegging a cleric with the smoke stick attached arrow.)

Combat for Control (DM Cayzle) Wednesday February 4th, 2009 4:58:34 PM
The party advances, and peeks around the corner, getting a first good look at the secret Control Room of the Floating City.
There is a hallway, lined with inert machinery. Beyond the hallway, in the room proper, there is a wide hole in the floor, or more accurately, a crater. The crater is filled with a glowing dark red substance, one that you recognize from Blinking, or from past visits to the Realm of Shadows -- the crater is filled with Woldsblood! But how can it exist like that here in the Wold proper? This is, or so the followers of Gargul would say, an abomination! An abuse!
But a more pressing concern right now may be the many creatures that you see before you. Although you have destroyed many of the undead who attacked you, there are still many left here, and they seem eager to try again. And behind them are several hooded clerics, like those you fought before.
Belkior casts his disruption spell.
Florin fires his smokestick [OOC - to what map coordinate?]
The DM thinks it hardly seems fair to only give these two actions for round one. Any others?

Once he has moved forward, Belkior begins casting one of the spells granted to him through his devotion to the Good teachings of Alemi. The Paragon aims his spell to affect as many of the undead as possible without hitting any of the living priests.
"There! That should weaken several of them!"

OOC: I may not get to post in the next 24 hrs, so please place this appropriately - probably after Syr & Horace.
Machines... he thinks to himself momentarily, then tells Belkior and others, "I'll move up then."[/i], though the tone is more like Bring it on! Wary of the artifices, Mac moves past Bekior and readies for the approaching undead.

Quickly bringing up his crossbow Horace takes aim and unleashes a bolt at one of the undead beasts (Undead Beast Y standing at Z,27) before reloading his bow in anticipation of his next shot.
"Do we take the fight to them or wait for them to come to us?" yells Horace to the rest of his fellow adventurers, without taking his eyes off the multitudes of undead and priests.

Florin Jadenth AC:27/29 vs Undead HP:125/134 Thursday February 5th, 2009 10:23:23 PM
(OOC:Cayzle, would it be possible for Florin to arc his shot so he can get the arrow close to the clerics? If not then I guess he will have to fire towards or at one of the undead in the front in which case should still block the view of the clerics on the group.)
Florin speaks to his friends as he takes his shot with the smoke stick arrow, "I'll see if I can get it closer to the clerics but not sure if I can. Either way I hope this will block their vision for awhile and keep any nasty spells at bay. However it looks like from there it will be hand to hand time for awhile."
Once his arrow is fired and since he should have time since the others will move in first, Florin will take time to put up his bow before pulling his sword, this ensureing his bow won't be stepped on, etc during the fight.

Just before he moves a thought occurs to him, "Hey Florin, this place is bigger than we thought. Want to bring your friend along?"

OOC: Checking in.
Mac and Syr leap forward to fight! Belkior uses magic to damage many undead. Wynn adds some speed; Florin, some smoke. Horace shoots and misses. Harley and Brahmah hang back.
After that, the deluge!
The Heros
From last round, Belkior casts his disrupting spell on a weapon -- WHOSE?
This round Belkior casts Holy Smite, AB 26-27. The spell has a radius of 20 feet, so it hits 13 undead as the cleric positions the spell maximally. By the way, please save your hero point -- none of the creatures affected have spell resistance. Undead S, R, Q, P, O, N, M, L, K, J, H, Y, and Z are affected. Results are posted below.
Horace fires a bolt at an undead, but -- if I read your post correctly -- it hits AC17, a miss. The undead are AC20, or AC18 when they are charging.
Brahmah takes a stand next to Horace.
Florin shoots his arrow and creates a small cloud of smoke. It fills a ten foot cube (see map). The arrow does not hit anyone. It does block vision. He puts away his bow and draws his sword.
Mac takes a double move to Z30.
Wynn advances 30 feet and then casts Haste.
Syr moves up next to Mac.
The Enemies
Cleric 1 casts Animate Objects -- for reasons that may be discovered later, Florin's smoke cloud does not obstruct his vision. Three of the inert machines suddenly jerk to life. They are large constructs with reach 10 ft. Two are flanking Mac, and, and one is taking a five foot step and another action (see below)
Cleric 2 delays his action.
Cleric 3 casts Shield of Faith.
Cleric 4 casts Bless over the entire enemy force.
Now Cleric 2 casts Spiritual Weapon (since he is blessed). He can see Wynn, 80 feet to the south, and he directs the spell to attack the bard. His attack hits AC19, a miss.
Cleric 5 follows Cleric 3 and casts Protection from Good on him.
Cleric 6 casts Obscuring Mist, a little back from the fight.
Animated Object 1 takes a five foot step, then pulls some inert machinery over so that he and it make a barricade. Doing this provokes an AoO.
The following charging undead and Animated Objects attack Mac: Undead H, I, Y, Z, and U; Animated Objects 2 and 3 (with flanking bonuses). The undead charge toward Mac. But Mac can take his AoOs (4 I think) on Animated Object 1 and any of the undead attacking him. Anim Obj 2 and 3 did not provoke any AoOs. If your AoOs kill any of the oncoming horde, I'll reduce damage accordingly.
Note that the undead have the abilities of acrobatic charge and pounce.
Five charging undead attacks (five bites at +16 and ten claws at +14) vs Mac's AC29/30: a bite (AC32), a critical bite (AC36 followed up with a 32), a potential crit bite (AC36) that does not follow up (AC23), a miss; and a miss. That's 4d8+40 PLUS three fort saves vs DC18 to avoid infection ... 67 damage to Mac.
Then ten claw attacks at +14: a miss; a crit (AC34, then 32); two misses, two hits (AC32 and AC33), a miss, a hit (AC31), and two misses. That's 5d4+20 plus four more saves vs infection ... for 34 more damage to Mac.
Finally, two constructs attack Mac. I am not giving them the Bless bonus, but they do gain +2 flanking. Two slam attacks: Two misses.

Belkior - (AC 24 (26 vs. evil); HP 89/91) - Magic Circle vs. Evil, Purifying Aura, Prayer Monday February 9th, 2009 9:36:35 PM
Is Waiting until he sees how much damage Mac actually takes.
The Disrupting Weapon is on Mac's weapon which makes his AoO's even more important.
Suggestion for Everyone - Either roll extra attacks (up to your max total number of Attacks of Opportunity) or make it clear for Cayzle what your attack bonus and damage are and let him roll. In this case, up to four of the undead may be either destroyed by Mac's AoO or the Disrupting Weapon. Potentially, that could eliminate nearly all the damage taken by Mac.
Florin Jadenth AC:27/29 vs Undead HP:125/134 Monday February 9th, 2009 11:41:38 PM
Florin frowns at how this is looking and hopes that people can pull out some more mass damage to the undead to weapon them down or such. Florin does think Syr's comment is a good one and speaks quickly to the man and his other friends, "From Ajax's back I should beable to attack over the heads of most of the members and with the lance Ajax has it will give me some reach."
Florin knows it will take a moment of his time but he calls out through his mind to his faithful horse to come and aid him.
(Cayzle: Will Ajax show up quicker with Florin being hasted? Not sure how that would work.)
If Florin has enough time when Ajax showsup, then he will sheath his sword and grab the lance that is with Ajax, planning to saddle up and aid when possible.

Combat for Control - Round 1 EXTRA (DM Cayzle) Tuesday February 10th, 2009 6:38:00 AM
Sorry Wynn, but activating a magic item is a standard action. You can attack or activate the ring, not both. (Haste does not give you an extra action, by the way, under 3.5 rules). Please pick one of the two.
Mac, for each undead of the five that attacked you that you kill with AoOs, I'll reduce damage by one fifth. It's an abstraction, sure, but a fair one, I hope.
Florin, Haste does not affect spells or spell-like abilities. It's a full round action to summon your warhorse, as usual.
Prerolling AoOs is not a bad idea. Your choice.
Everyone -- make sure you include the Haste bonus to AC in your stats.

OOC: Just checking the map... I need a rule clarification. I've just read up (for the first time) on Acrobatic Charge and Pounce (nasty! : ) ), and I can't see anything in either that would allow them to charge through walls or other occupied spaces, as noted PH pg.155 - Charging Blocked. I can see (Y) & (Z )charging as described, and (J) & (M) charging straight down to fill the spaces immediately next to them (the first square they can attack from), but I can't see how anything can charge to the space you have (I). Having said that, assuming they all made their Acrobatic Charge Tumble checks, they won't provoke AoOs. Barring that, I'll give the AoOs and saves requested. The idea of prerolling AoOs is a good one!
Mac reels under the onslaught. Whilst he'd like to smack the machines down, the magic must be delivered to the undead. AoOs(last round): 1) vs J - AC31 for 20 damage. [Disrupting Weapon] 2) vs Y - AC18 for 20 damage. [Disrupting Weapon] 3) vs Z - AC36(crit threat AC24) for 19 (19+19+18=56) damage. [Disrupting Weapon] Undead probably no Crit, but included just in case. 4) vs U - AC28 for 20 damage. [Disrupting Weapon]

Yeah, the undead are a DM special. By the way, the free-range versions the party met in the Float have the special ability of always going first in combat.
But the acrobatic charge / pounce is just a DM approximation/shorthand. These guys can charge around obstacles and through friends. But they cannot tumble to avoid AoOs as they charge. It has not been an issue before because they have not charged anyone with reach.
Four will saves vs disruption for four AoOs: three of four fails, undead Y saves. So only two undead of five made it through to hit Mac. So I'm reducing Mac's damage by three-fifths. Mac only takes 40 hp damage, not 101 hp. Okay?

Horace is furious with himself. His first shot of the battle didn't hit anything and now he is hampered by the fact that the rest of his fellow adventurers have closed to the attack and he daren't risk shooting at any of the undead in case he hits one of his own by mistake.
Putting his crossbow back on his back, Horace draws his magical longsword in his right hand and in his left he clutches his wand of magic missiles.

Florin pauses to call his celestial charger from the heavenly realms. (Please place him with map coordinates at the start of next round.)
Wynn steps up to give an animated machine a poke. Doing so provokes an AoO from the machine, since it has reach. The Construct's AoO hits AC13, a miss. Wynn in turn does do some damage with hisi adamantine weapon. The bard has not activated his Ring of Blinking.
Syr steps up and attacks Undead X, destroying it.
Mac becomes a whirling dervish of disruption. He cannot step up to row 29 seeing as Undead Y is still in his way at 29Z. So he attacks every enemy in reach. That's the two constructs and undead D, T, V, Y, and I. Against those, he hits one machine for 5 damage, and against the undead, he makes five hits, forcing five will saves. In that order, undead V and I make their saves. Those two take 22 and 21 hp damage, respectively. And Undead D, T, and Y are disrupted!
Brahmah steps up (no AoO seeing as Brahmah has reach too) and attacks a construct, but fails to penetrate its hardness. The taur is envious of the bard's weapon.
Belkior uses his dispel wand and heroically renders the machines inert again!
The inert machines still constitute a ten-foot high wall blocking you out -- it is a move action and a DC5 climb to enter a machine square. To climb down is a move action and a DC5 climb check. To hang and jump down is a DC5 Jump check that takes 15 feet of movement. To just jump down as a free action is a DC15 Jump check. In all these cases, failure on a down check means you fall, landing prone and taking 1d6 nonlethal damage. Failure on an up check means you don't go up.
Horace puts away his crossbow and draws either his sword or his wand.
Harley continues to watch the rear.

Cleric 2 - Casts Dominate Person on Mac. The will save DC is 18. The spiritual weapon he created last round attacks Wynn again: it hits AC16, a miss.
Cleric 3 - Casts Aid on himself, gaining 9 temporary hit points.
Cleric 4 - Cleric 4 casts Command on Mac: DROP! Will Save DC 15.
Cleric 5 - Cleric 5 casts Command on Mac: HALT! Will Save DC 15.
Cleric 6 - Cleric 6 hides in the mist.
Undead
Undead V and B use Tumble checks (not charges) to approach Mac and Syr. The checks are 41 and 38, so no problem. Undead B uses full defense, bringing his AC to 26, and not attacking. Undead V and I attack normally, with flanking bonuses, but V gets only a standard attack because it moves.
Undead I vs Mac: Hits AC28 -- a miss with the bite. [OOC: Mac, why are you AC30? I see 24 on your sheet, 25 from Haste, 26 from Dodge ... where's the extra +5 coming from?] And with the claws: AC27 and AC30 -- the latter is a hit for 6 damage.
Undead V vs Mac -- only one attack. A hit vs AC35 for 12 damage.
And since Mac is infected, no need to roll infection saves any more. Note that the effects of infection take hours or days to manifest, you think.
The other undead take a step back (see map). Four of them take out vials and throw them at Mac. They are vials of Wolodsblood! On a miss, Will save vs. DC 10 or dazed for one round (splash damage); On a hit, Will save vs. DC 15 or dazed for 1d20 minutes plus 1d20 Wisdom ability damage.
Four vials of Woldsblood aimed at Mac: Mac's touch AC is something like a 15, with the haste, so far as I can figure it. The four attacks hit AC29, 22, 23, and 20. That's four Will saves vs DC 15.
Syr also has to make four saves Will DC 10 from splash damage.
Will save enemy attacks this round: Mac has to make a DC18 Domination save, DC15 HALT Command Save, DC15 DROP Command Save, and four DC15 Woldsblood saves. Syr has to make four DC10 Woldsblood saves.
[b]AND Top Cleric Number One is waiting to see how all those saves go before he casts his spell for the round!

The halfling cleric decides that it is time to both heal his companions and attack the undead. Belkior mutters a prayer to Alemi and casts Mass Cure Light Wounds, using the spell that he had intended to use to contact his God.
After casting his spell, Belkior moves forward to near the base of one of the machines in order to have some cover from the spellcasters and the undead.

OOC: Cayzle, as noted at the end of every combat post under the heading Combat Notes, Mac is using the Combat Expertise feat, taking a -5 penalty to his BAB, and gaining a +5 Dodge bonus to AC. Someone earlier advised it was better to not get hit and hit as many undead as possible than it was to focus on one undead at a time, and he has tried to do just that.
Now for the... Saving throws: Cleric 2: Dominate: Will Save 10, Hero Point, 8 (well, they ADD to 18! : ) ) Cleric 4: Command: "Drop": Will Save 9, Hero Point, 13 - Mac would have fallen prone had that specific effect of the command not been so carefully expressed in the spell description - glad I took the time to read up on it. Instead, Mac drops his great axe. Cleric 5: Command: "Halt": Will Save 10, Hero Point, 13 - Mac stands still. (OOC: Sigh! 6 D20 rolls, none better than a 9) Woldsblood: 22 (Yes!), 13 +2 for my final Hero Point is 15 (yay...), 22 again (Maybe...), and 24 (YES!)
Actions: What he's told.
OOC: But that is small consolation, as I'm pretty sure the GM isn't quite finished for the round, and it only gets worse from here. I guess I'm sort of watching from the wings for a while.
Combat for Control - Round 2 Clean Up (DM Cayzle) d4=4 Thursday February 12th, 2009 7:25:31 AM
Mac, please do continue to play your character. That would be a heckuva lot easier than me trying to do so. ALSO, seeing as Matt has had to drop out of the game for now, may I ask you to please sub for Harley, if you don't mind? Don't get him killed, but even from the backfield he can be more useful than just standing around, I deem, and you guys may need the help.
=====
Mac drops his greataxe. Rolling randomly, the DM rules it falls in square Z31. Note that since it is a large two-handed weapon, medium size creatures cannot use it.
The cleric who has yet to cast knows that once again his spells may be foiled by that darn wand of dispel! So he acts to block line of sight to the now-dominated Minotaur. He moves to 28Y (drawing his weapon) and casts Obscuring Mist.
Mac, you feel compelled to NOT make any attacks on the enemy clerics or undead, so no AoOs.
Belkior, you can repost if desired now that you know that Mac is Dominated and that there is a 20-ft radius mist cloud centered in 28Y.
Mac, when it is your turn (ie, with your next post), please run forward as fast as you can, for as far as you can. No one will hinder you or take any AoOs.

Syr flinches as the Woldsblood touches him but shows no other reaction (made 4 will saves since he only fails with a natural 1).
Then the elf watches in amazement as Mac drops his sword and takes off running. He shouts back to those behind him an update, "Guys, the new guy just ran away but he took 6 or so with him. "
He looks around at the creatures in front of him and then calls back. Guys, take your time getting over here and coordinate it with everyone. Don't worry about me, I'm getting out too unless this wall stops me." Syr charges undead A and tries to get past using his full double? movement. (OOC: Location: if he gets out just send him in the same general direction at full speed which should put him out of reach of most of the bad guys with 4 AoO along the way. if not, he rolled a reflex save of 34.

When Ajax appears Florin will go to saddle up and thinks before looking around at his companion, "We could really use a teleport spell or something to try and get some people on the other side of this mess."
Once in the saddle, Florin shifts his lance alittle and ponders where a good opening would be. He could charge but running over friends or slamming into a minotaur wall didn't sound like fun to him.

The halfling cleric realizes that Mac has been controlled by some kind of domination spell cast by the clerics. Belkior quickly reviews his options and determines that he needs to get into the thick of the battle. He mutters a word and lifts off from the floor before flying up and over the machines and into the mist. The Paragon looks over his shoulder as he moves to shout at Harley, "Get closer and start attacking these things!"
After moving into the mist, Belkior moves right up behind Mac so that his circular ward protects the minotaur. Once Mac is within the area of the Magic Circle vs. Evil, the domination fades and Mac can control his own actions.

Combat for Control - Round 3 Hero Actions and Questions (DM Cayzle) Saturday February 14th, 2009 1:44:37 PM The Heros
Horace draws his wand of magic missiles, then delays his action.
Brahmah and Wynn continue to hack at the inert machine. They have hacked away a five-foot section of it. See map. Small PCs can move through as a move action from 35AA to 34Z. Wynn and other medium PCs can now squeak through as a standard action. A large size PC will need an Escape Artist (or Dex) check vs DC15 and a full round action. Or you can just keep hacking to enlarge the hole.
Syr is unaffected by the Woldsblood splashing around him. Syr, since Mac did NOT go running off, you can change your action. Your choice?
Florin mounts his holy steed and moves up a little, but is not sure how to get to the front line. If Brahmah and Wynn can hack away at that hole a bit more ...
Belkior activates his Celestial Armor and then flies over to Mac in the mist. The cleric stays on the edge of the mist, next to Mac, but five feet up. That puts him at eye level with the Taur!
Horace wants to target the clerics with magic missiles, but he cannot see them in the mist. Sorry! You still have a move action or a standard action.
Mac, shielded from the effect of the Dominate by the Magic Circle, is not compelled to run.
Harley continues to watch the rear.
LOTS MORE TO COME, BUT I THOUGHT I'D GIVE YOU ALL A CHANCE TO RESPOND TO QUESTIONS AND SUCH.
Combat for Control - Round 3 Questions Re-Asked, plus AoOs and more (DM Cayzle) d20+17=32 ; d20+17=21 ; d20+15=30 ; 2d8+20=24 ; d20+7=16 ; Saturday February 14th, 2009 3:27:29 PM
Let me summarize my points remaining:
Horace, you can't see the enemy so the magic missiles won't work. Choose another standard or move action.
Syr, since Mac did not run off, it might seem funny if you do. Want to submit new actions?
Florin also really has a move or standard action after mounting, if he chooses to use it.
If anyone wants to run Harley, then A-OK. Otherwise he'll just hang back to recover the bodies after the TPK.
==========
I also have three AoOs on Mac as he bends to pick up his axe. I'll take three bites, two of them with a +2 flanking bonus: AC32, AC21, and AC30, so two bites for 24 damage total to Mac.
Then Mac whacks Undead V -- who rolls a 16 save and is disrupted into dust. However! The Cleave Feat states, "If you deal a creature enough damage to make it drop (typically by dropping it to below 0 hit points or killing it), you get an immediate, extra melee attack against another creature within reach." Mac did not "deal enough damage to drop" the undead, so he does not get to Cleave on.
[OOC: We're still not done! I have to resolve the above and do enemy actions and the map!]

Syr puts on the brakes when he realizes Mac isn't going anywhere. Turning he quickly he slides to the left and dispatches the undead in front of him (B). (Attack 5 hits for 87 damage). "I really miss Angus' fireball right about now."

The human cleric strides forward, forcefully presenting himself and the symbols of his faith to the undead up ahead. Harley tries to turn some of the undead and force them to run from Mac and the others at the front of the party.
Once he has done this, Harley whispers to his nearby companions, [i]"Who wants to be teleported up ahead? We'll go past these barriers and lay iinto those clerics. What do you say?"
OOC - Harley intends to take Brahmah and one other person, or Florin and his warhorse. If you want to go, include in your next post and roll attacks as if you get a full round of attacks against a cleric (or two).

Horace draws his wand of magic missiles, then moves to Z37.
He attacks Undead B, destroying it as he takes a five foot step to the left.
DM NOTE REGARDING THE MIST: From the spell description for Obscuring Mist: "A creature 5 feet away has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). "
So that means Syr's attacks had a 20% miss chance. Rolling for his five hits: d100=8 ; d100=75 ; d100=18 ; d100=28 ; d100=6 ... That means Syr's first, third, and fifth hits were really misses. So Syr only inflicts 22+17 = 39 damage to Undead B.
More to the point, it puts Mac inside the Magic Circle, and he does not feel compelled any more.
Mac, shielded from the effect of the Dominate by the Magic Circle, is not compelled to run. The taur bends to pick up his axe, provoking three AoOs on him as he bends to pick it up. Three bites, two of them with a +2 flanking bonus: AC32, AC21, and AC30, so two bites for 24 damage total to Mac.
Harley strides forward and attempts to turn undead. He cannot see the undead, but he does not have to -- all he needs is line of effect, not line of sight. His Turning Check is a 13 and he turns up to 25 hit dice. The undead are seven hit dice each, so three of them flee back.

The halfling cleric decides to clear the air, so to speak. Belkior lifts his wand of Dispel Magic and triggers it once more to get rid of the Obscuring Mist spell.

Cayzle: Harley turned undead last round and TALKED about Teleporting, but has not done so yet.
If Florin is teleported then he will take a stab at one of the clerics with his lance since that is what he had armed himself with at the moment. It also giveing him some reach.
(Can hit AC:36/20 (forgot to add the haste bonus) Damage:7/10=17)
(Quick question a lance is a large weapon and most large weapons require two hands to be used. However is it that way when useing a lance? Not sure if the books says or not. Personally doesn't make much sense if it requires two hands though but anyway.)
Cayzle: If mounted, you can use the lance one handed. You can also use it two handed.

Will be teleporting, assuming that he can see where he is going. From the way things look, it will probably be Florin and his horse going.
