Temples and Clues (DM SteveK) Friday February 13th, 2009 3:22:35 PM
The meeting brings shape to what the Children of Chaos are going to do.
The changing of the tattoos to the shape of what the older members know of as the Chaos Bell is taken as a sign. This, along with Rash's report on the Daughter of the Crones makes them think that everything is starting to come to a head.
Peerimus directs Durgan and Kazak to book a ship to the Sargrass in the name of the Protector 823. The dwarves are able to get one of the captains that knows of Rattledam and the New Life pilgrimage site to agree to take the Protectors aboard and ready to sail at dawn two days hence.
Previously, Peerimus' continued questions with the sage revealed more information about the Oglians. They were a well-organized and warlike race, subjugating other intelligent races to perform menial and manual labor. Thier 'cities' were vast underground warrens as well as tall piles of hardened earth that rose into the air. Few artifacts have been found, as it seems that most of thier tools were biological in nature, however, there are relics of thier writing preserved in places. The sage is learned enough to actually have a rock with a sample of the writing, and Peerimus can see that it is a form of extremely convoluted, sprially hieroglyphics. Upon the dousing of the lamps, the sage shows that the markings even glow with a faint light.
Finally, Peerimus suggests that everyone listen to Rash, Xenia, and Jurgen and get some undead-stomping equipment. Looks like the CoC is going to need it!
.............................
Peerimus' Greater Scrying fails to find Ohzone. The druid is reasonably sure it was the reptile's Spell Resistance.
Kazak takes some serious dragon frustrations out on poor, helpless, manikins.
Xenia pops out and zips over to the Temple of New Life. As she has to get over the River Hook to go from the CoC Warehouse on the south bank to the Causeway on the north bank, the shadowy rogue finds it impossible to be unseen the whole way there (has to pay the ferryman or Bridge guards). Not too much problem, however, since she is only one of dozens of crossers on dozens of ferries. And once on the other side, she blends into the shadows and continues on her way.
Once there, Xenia doesn't have the time to go into the New Life Temple, there is a full street riot going on right on the Causeway! There are a couple squads of Hook City guards here but so far they are completely overwhelmed by the numbers of rioters, mostly coming from the New LIfe Temple and the Great Migration Cult! There are a dozen already on the ground, hurt, bleeding, or dead. Stones and clubs are mostly seen, but it is only a matter of time before steel will be drawn!
Then, striding up to Xenia and apparently well aware the dark girl is hiding here, is an old man in a gray hooded cloak, a Priest of the Crones. "Child of Chaos", he says in his creaky voice, "you are arrived in time, but we need your friends." Reaching out, the old man touches one finger on Xenia's tattoo, and the Bell glows!
"Children of Chaos, the Crones call thier Champions. The Change must begin!"
Individually, wherever they are, the CoC feel thier Bell Tattoo writhe and PULL towards the Causeway. You are NEEDED, as if the ripples in a pool from a dropped pebble now run back to the center.
Peerimus, Trace, Jurgen, and Firn'gear have felt these stirrings before. They know without a doubt that the Chaos Bell is calling and it is located here in Hook City!
Xenia (AC27, HP86/86) d20+20=23 Friday February 13th, 2009 4:58:07 PM
Huh? What? Whatchoo looking at? You can't see me!!!
The rogue in hiding looks frantically about -a cat in search of an exit- as the old guy in the gray hood comes unerringly in her direction. Frozen in place, she can do nothing as he reaches out to touch her gloved hand. Right through the material of the glove, the tattoo glows. It's a bell. No longer the swirly star pattern, it's now a bell! Wazzat?
Weerdness rules in the land of the Chaos Guys. That's something proved and proven again and again and then another again over the past couple of months in which she's been here in this place. Weerdness. And if you can't roll with the weerdness, you probs won't survive. You'd die and never make it home again. Adapt. That's what Da used to say. Adapt or die.
It's almost like she can feel the bell, like she can feel the call. No. Not Almost. Don't doubt it. Don't question it. Feel the call. Feel it reaching for the others. Peerimus and Fernie the two from long ago. Jurgen, Rash, the brother dwarves Durgan and Kazak, elfie Trace the battle commander. Angus too now. She can feel them as the bell names each one.
"Thanks Old Guy," Xenia tosses off the gratitude and then moves in darkness toward the melee. She whispers quickly to her ring to begin it's Blinking magic, and then with more deliberation to the glowing symbol on the back of her hand. "Alright, Tattoo Bell. Show Xenia where you want us to go. The others are right behind me, and if you and me can scout out a clear idea of where it is you want us to be, we'll be that much further ahead of the game, yeah?"
Trusting to the bell, the dark rogue follows the feelings that come to her, moving where the feelings lead her, and surrendering to the call of the bell.
Rash Trinka Friday February 13th, 2009 5:18:34 PM
Feeling the pull on her tattoo, Rash grins with excitement. While it is true, she has never felt this sensation before, her study of the Children quickly reveals to her what is going on and she can't wait for her first test from the Crones and the Chaos Bell. She quickly hurries towards the pull wanting to see what the challenge is but is dismayed to she the riot in front of her when she turns a corner. Rash quickly casts a fly spell, soaring into the sky and starts yelling in her most commanding voice, {b} Cease this now! Stop fighting or by the Powers I will stop you! This is your only warning! {/b}
Rash will start casting a powerful summoning spell to get some allies to help cool the heads of these miscreats. She should have know Jurgen's hooligans would be involved.

Jurgen Friday February 13th, 2009 5:39:17 PM
When the tattoo flares up, Jurgen recognizes the familiar pull of Chaos. He pays little mind to the change from the spiral to the tattoo as Chaos would do what it would do. The pull towards the Causeway moves Jurgen from indifference to worry. That was where Xenia had headed... She had proved she could handle herself, as all the Children had. But if Chaos was at work, they shouldn't be separated...
Jurgen takes a moment to glance at Peerimus, attempting to judge the druid's reaction. Then, preparing for possible battle, he enhances his armor with the usual Alter Self. "Is a teleport necessary or is there enough time for us to get there?" Fairly certain that the spell resources may be needed later in the day, Jurgen gets ready to leave the warehouse and start the rush towards the Causeway.
Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166 Friday February 13th, 2009 10:47:28 PM
The druid stands and his face reveals all Jurgen needs to know. A loud whistle stirs Yorrick fro his sunbeam and another thought puts his animated shield to hovering just before him. "With haste my friends." Peerimus is moving for the door and beyond. The druid had not cast any of his normal morning spells and so his speed is not overly exceeding any of the others, in fact he does keep his pace in check to match that of the dwarves.
Arriving at the Causeway he too calls out in a loud voice so as to be heard by everyone, "Enough! Cease your actions, we are the Protectors 823, The Children of Chaos and this ends now! His right hand cuts through the air and then alights on Yorrick signaling the bear the lend his might to gaining the attention of all present. A task that the mighty ursine is designed to perform. Yorrick stands to his full 12' height and issues a thunderous bellow that practically rocks the very stones while fire flares about his mighty claws.

[OOC - sorry about lack of posting this week. it has been exceptionally busy.]
Firn'gaer hand burns with the familiar, yet painful, burning. It's starting. This is different. I've never felt a pull before like this. Firn'gaer takes to flight and allows the pull of the Chaos Bell to carry him along.

Angus HP 66/66 Saturday February 14th, 2009 7:42:29 AM
Angus feels his hand twinge "Is it always like this. I feel like a Prtector with a divining rod built into my hand. Let's get on with it so that we can make it stop."
Angus casts his standard Mage Armor spell in the morning and then right before everyone leaves he cast message spell on all the Children of Chaos.
As the group get nearer to the Causeway, Angus will get ready to cast some protective magics on himself, but he hopes to get a peek at the scene first.
Durgan Saturday February 14th, 2009 8:42:07 AM
Durgan stomps towards the direction the tattoo tells him to go. His shield is out, and his other arm is free, having stowed his weapons into their usual spots. With the free arm he bats away anyone foolish enough to step in front of the irritated dwarf. He walks in a straight line, right down the middle of the road, grumbling a string of dwarven curses the whole way. Anyone who happens to speak dwarven that he passes can make out some curses about tattoos in general, the magic Chaos tattoo in particular, people who make tattoos, people who wear tattoos, the inventor of the things needed to make tattoos, and the existence of ink.
By the time he reaches the scene of the riot, One look from the dwarf should be enough to get some of the rioters to take a break and stand down. "Alright then! Who wants to feel the backside of me axe? It won't hurt as much as the front side, but it will still hurt lots."
Riot in the Streets! (DM SteveK) Saturday February 14th, 2009 5:03:37 PM Xenia follows the pull of her hand, keeping in the shadows and going wherever it may lead. Soon, she finds herself inside the Temple of the Crones. Meeting her in the foyer is the old man and several other robed people (though only the old man seems to know where Xenia is). "Soon you will be joined by the others, Child of Chaos. You may relax. Here you are temporarily safe."
Rash, Jurgen, Peerimus, Firn'gaer, Kazak, Angus, Durgan, and Trace also follow the pull of the Bell Tattoos and come to the rioting on the Causeway. Several of the Children try and quell the riot with reason or a show of power, but it looks like only Kazak has any effect. (Thanks for the SKILL ROLL, Kazak! :-) A few people notice the dwarf and immediately dismiss him as a blowhard. For the others here in NorthHook, either they aren't looking at the Children, they don't know who the Protectors 823 are, or the noise of the riot is too loud and drowns out the heroes' warnings.
Jurgen notices one of his most fervent cult members, one Jhon by name, is laying on the Causeway with his chest caved in (obviously dead). Nearby is a cult member and a Hook City guard also both dead. It looks like the riot has had a couple dozen fatalities so far.
The Protectors can see other Protector groups are wading into the crowd along with more squads of Hook City Guards using the butts of thier halbreds to knock sense into folks. Overhead a half-dozen lrge flying carpets have arrived, and the mages stationed on them look like they are preparing spells for the crowd.
The pull of the Tattoos is still strong and is urging the Children of Chaos to the side of the riot and towards... The Temple of the Crones.
Lhari, the Staff of Evocation unexpectedly speaks up while in Firn'gaer's hand. "War and destruction usually happen every generation that a Great Migration happens. Each reincarnation of the Children of Chaos are usually involved in some way. Yes, yes, now I remember. The first step is the tattoos activate, and the heroes have to speak with the Crones."
Trace and Rhino Saturday February 14th, 2009 5:17:32 PM
Trace races to the back of the wharehouse where he has stashed his new friend, not sure when to introduce the big guy to the group he decides this will be a better time than ever. Trace leads him around to the front and introduces him to the group, before long this hand has that familiar pull, not having time to show him off much, he mounts his new friend with his saddle and armor shinning. Trace thunders along the streets on rhino headed for the riots, upon seeing Yorrick makes his pressence known, Trace and rhino walk right inbetween the two groups. Trace draws his bow readies to fire on anyone that really wants to test the authority and ability of the COC! Trace then looks to Peerimus and waits for his go ahead to start dropping the nuts.

Jurgen Saturday February 14th, 2009 7:22:16 PM
The sight of Jhon fills Jurgen with rage. Yes, at the cults, but also at himself for letting it get this out of hand. He wants to go to the man and apologize, even though it would be pointless now. His tattoo pulls him towards the Crones, away from the riot, but Jurgen had other responsibilities. "Go ahead to the Temple. I'll be with you shortly." He says to the group.
He casts a Major Image spell centered next to himself. The illusion is an exact replica of the paladin, with one small exception. Instead of being six feet tall it is 160 feet tall. "CHILDREN OF THE GREAT MIGRATION! Hear me now!" The illusion speaks in the same preaching voice that Jurgen had acquired over the last few weeks. "Lay down your weapons. Return to the Temple. I will address you shortly!" [Diplomacy Check - d20+20=25]. The Giant-Jurgen image points towards the Temple of the Great Migration. His choice to address only the Great Migration cult was based on the fact that the New Life cult would probably turn on him if asked them to stop.
Rash Trinka d20+8=13 ; Sunday February 15th, 2009 11:33:03 AM
Rash lets her summoning fade away when she sees the really tall Jurgen spring up. She quickly deduces it is an illusion but her means might have gotten more people hurt and see didn't want to see that. She is grateful to see officials arriving but saddened to see the dead bodies lying around. Trinka feels the pull of the magic leading her towards the temple and flies in that direction keeping above the heads of the combatants but looking for anyone she knows in trouble (spot check 13)
She will land and enter the temple hand on her sword hilt.

Xenia throws a quick glance over her shoulder. From outside in the roiling violence comes the sound of familiar voices. Through the screams of pain, the cries of anger, the fear and the sound of uncountable bodies raging against each other, the commanding tones of the Chaos Guys ride like great birds in the midst of a storm.
She steps out of the shadows.
"Hi, I'm Xenia." A quick introduction for those others in the temple who haven't happened to be able to see her. "You," she points to the old man, "you seen me and that ain't such an easy thing to do. Means you've got powers. Can you do sump'in to help stop them? I mean, that sound. Can't but be that they're out there trying to kill each other. Just people. But they can get that way sometimes. They get that way, but they don't deserve it. Can you stop it?" she pleads. "Can you?" (Diplomacy 24)

Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166 Monday February 16th, 2009 10:11:11 AM
The crowd ignores him, not too surprising to the druid. This was the noble races at their worst and as he spies the incoming carpets he expects things to go downhill. Jurgen's illusion would give many pause, hopefully save a few. He again feels the pull, the summons. His memory flashes back to the day in the forests just outside Fort Wayfarer. This was different though in that he knew more of what was going on. It was not the confusing urgency of his own mind fogging his judgement which nearly had caused him to flee from the call. No this time he knew full well what the pull and call of the Crones was. Peermius takes a last look about the melee and then narrows in on Trace and the Rhino. "Hold Trace." He says with a stopping hand upraised and then louder to his companions, "Xenia should be inside, move to the temple."
Peerimus slides in behind Yorrick and and with a whisper to the bear, Yorrick heads in a staright line towards the Temple of the Crones

Durgan Monday February 16th, 2009 3:55:07 PM
Durgan moves to start bashing heads, but then the tatto pulls him again. With a sigh that can't be heard over the noise, the dwarf moves to the Temple of the Crones. He tries to stop a few fights along the way, but leaves most of that work to the guards. The tattoo would not have summoned the Children for something as simple as a riot. Something important was happening.
He complains along the way, not that anyone is listening. "Humph! Durned humans. This must be the result of all the greed around here. They hoard gold as well as any dragon. Never seen a dwarf riot have ye? No. That's because a dwarf has a stronger sense of family and community than these humans do. I hope the Crones have some orcs or sumthin fer me to hit. The ale is wearing off and I'm gettin a little irritable."
Speaking with the Crones(DM SteveK) Monday February 16th, 2009 10:16:26 PM
The Children of Chaos feel the pull of the tattoos, but are still concerned with the riots. Jurgen and Trace try to directly affect the riot. {b]Rash[/b] looks to help on a more personal level, and Xenia sees if the Temple of the Crones can't help in some way.
Other Protector groups begin to shout out thier names, numbers, and warnings, and the carpet squad fills the Causeway with Webs, Stinking Clouds, Walls of Stone or Force or Iron. A couple Symbols of Sleep are eventually needed for a couple people, but the riot is quickly under control. Soon there is nothing that prevents the CoC to feel the increasingly uncomfortable pull of the tattoos towards the Temple of the Crones. .......................
As the group arrives, the Children of Chaos see the first chamber holds a small glow as well as every member of the Crones grea-robed clergy.
The CoC move towards the centre of the chamber which is surrounded by a circle of gray-cowled priests of the Crones. There is a space for nine more to arrive before the circle is complete, and a small light pulses in the center of the circle. Once the CoC complete the circle, the light immediately brightens until the entire chamber is illuminated in something close to daylight. Somehow, none of the CoC cast a shadow and the no shadows can been anywhere in the room. At the very least, this removes any threat from any creature capable of hiding.
The circle is now filled with some kind of glowing plasm or energy which rises up until it towers over the people in the room. Everyone senses that something important is happening. For the Children of Chaos, however, the experience is something else again...
The glowing plasm rises up, shifting and bulging as it slowly takes the form of five old women, the perfect representation of the Crones. In the distance, somewhere beyond the Power that is the Crones, the heroes can see other beings: a Mountain: a Forest: a Man who constantly shifts from humanoid to animal and then to plant, the only constant being a pair of eyes that carry the weight of ages while still twinkling with mischief; a Matron with the swollen belly of late pregnancy that belies her careworn face and eyes; and others too indistinct to identify or even tell very much about the figures.
The five Crones begin speaking all at once, each speaking a different piece of advice, sagely, or impatient, or careless, or insistent, and all of them correcting each other and bickering as they do.
"I have set myself ..."
"No, we've decided to do this..."
"You must understand..."
"All do their part..."
"It is again your time..."
"Yes, our champions will break the bonds ..."
"To protect and nurture, rather, and keep things ..."
"To do both, if they can ..."
"Yes."
"Yes, to stop the Northern God..."
"The Woldsblood controlled..."
"The Sargrass enslaved..."
"The end of death..."
"The domination of all to the Test ..."
"This god seeks to trap the will of the Wold ..."
"Make the Wold his own will..."
"And this god has set himself against us..."
"We, and the others ... and we have sought to stymie his efforts, not without some loss..."
And then all five voices speak as one.
YOU, OUR CHILDREN, OUR CHAMPIONS, MUST SEVER THE CONNECTION"
After a moment, the five voices start again...
"The northern god seeks to dominate the child. Travel to the womb of the child aborning... "
"This chamber protected by the Blood ..."
"Holding blood of the Wold..."
"Go to the secret place in the 'Grass..."
"Find the Bloodpack ..."
"Yes, the Bloodpack, they..."
"They hold the way open..."
"They will guard your backs ..."
"To the heart of the battle."
"To the Center."
"With my key"
"With our possession"
"Do not ring until"
"Until you set it in the Center"
"At the Center Ring the Bell."
"And sever the Connection."
It feels like a timeless moment. A moment that perhaps, perhaps, answers may be given. Questions may be asked. Looking left and right, the priests and priestesses of the Crones do not move, they do not even draw breath. Only the Children of Chaos and the Powers before them seem alive and moving in this moment...
Trace and Rhino Monday February 16th, 2009 10:53:53 PM
As allways, directions are clear as a bell. Trace waits for the others to see if they are able to make heads or tails of what was said, "The only thing I can tell is to head back to the grass and find the blood pack and they should be able to send us in the right direction to fight the North God and sever his connection with the wolds blood." Trace gives a bit of hysterical laugh at his own recount of what is said. He leans forward and pats Rhino on the side. "We be mates you and me, lets see what kind of trouble we can get into."

Jurgen Tuesday February 17th, 2009 4:36:00 AM
As the Crones begin, Jurgen turns to Xenia, Angus, and Rash. "This is going to be weird... Try not to be too alarmed."
A thousand questions run through Jurgen's mind. None of them are terribly important and so he lets them float away. The path was, if not clear, at least laid out. But without Captain Ganness, how would they find their way back to that "secret place". And what, exactly, would happen there? Was it worth even trying to ask the Crones? Probably not. Cryptic phrases and scattered speech. Never a direct answer from them. "What happens in the Center? Should we prepare in any special way?" He, knowing he has nothing else to ask of what their mission is, waits until everyone else has asked their questions. Peerimus might have some good ones. The newcomers might have a new way of looking at the Crones that could prove useful. But Jurgen was already clear on what to do next.
For him, what happened after that was more important. His mind is on Jhon and the other losses of the day; of what the future held in store for those the Children cared about and the consequences for them. "How can we protect people during the Great Migration? What can we do to make it easier for," he spreads his hands as if signifying more than just those outside at the subdued riot, "them?"
Angus HP 66/66 Tuesday February 17th, 2009 9:05:33 AM
Angus looks to Jurgen "You were spot on. That was weird. How often has this happened to you and this group?"
Angus gives his head a quick shake as if to clear it. "So who knows where this place is the grass is? I hope there are no snakes in the grass." Angus muses.
Angus call out to all in attendance "Has anyone met a bloodpack before. Sounds like vampires and they are suppose to watch our back. I am worried about that."
Rash Trinka d20=12 ; Tuesday February 17th, 2009 10:44:49 AM
Rash steps forward, drops to her knees and bows respectfully to the Crones in recognition of what they were and what they are now. She gracefully rises to her feet and says respectfully, "Ladies, your words are vague and I believe clarity might be important right now. It sounds like one of the Northern Powers is trying to extend his influence into our Southern Isle. Trying to take over this land held in balance by you and the other Powers whom I worship. This Power or God will upset the balance and enslave this Isle and possilbly the Wold?
It sounds like you need us to assume some task? We need to find this secret place out in the Sargrass. We need to join with another group called the Bloodpack who will be our allies? We need to go to the center with something important to you. An artifact? The Chaos Bell? Can you give us anymore information? Who is the Northern God we need to stop? What are his domains? Where is this secret place and what do we need to put in the center? I ask repectfully for more information. I don't think we can afford to make any mistakes."
To the others she says, "I believe I have heard of this group known as the Bloodpack. A younger group of adventurers quickly making a reputation for themselves. They are strong but not quite up to our powers yet. I think they will make good allies but we will need to do the heavy lifting. (ooc Steve took some liberties there, hope you don't mind. Local history roll of 14)
DMSteveK: No liberties taken. Everyone but Rash, Xenia, and Angus knows about the Bloodpack. They have been to OddHolme, the secret lair of the Bloodpack in the Sargrass and even delivered to the custodians of OddHolme a letter from Mara Weaver (local of Block 452) to her daughter and member of the Bloodpack, Tishe'. Since the Bloodpack are making a name for themselves in the heated grasslands of thier home, it stands to easy reason that only Xenia and Angus don't know anything about the Bloodpack. :-)
Xenia (AC27, HP86/86) Tuesday February 17th, 2009 10:47:17 AM
Everything's weerd when you don't know what's going on. And there's a whole boat load o' Not-Knowing-What's-Going-On here in this situation. It is *not* comforting to know, however, that even *this* is weerdness for the Chaos Guys.
"Yeah, well, whyn't we let you guys handle the Bell stuff and the Grass stuff, and the finding of the Center stuff, Jurgen," the dark rogue replies. Just point me in the right direction and I'll try'n help you out, huh?"
"Hey, Angus," Xenia adds from the corner of her mouth, "did those five old girls remind you of sump'in? They remind me of witches. 'Member? The witches we fought in the Crying Woods? Witches. The Southern Guys worship witches."
The dark girl gives her head of red hair an incredulous shake. Then a thought occurs. "'Travel to the womb of the child aborning... ' Wazzat?" she asks rhetorically. "'The northern god seeks to dominate the child.' And that picture of the woman all pregers. If we're talking gods from where Angus and me are from that must be Ga'al. It was his Red Maskies that Florin thought were attacking the Float. It was the Ga'alies who was using the Woldsblood. And that's what Ga'al does. That's his thing, dominating. He puts this heartseed thingie in your chest and you become his slave. Everything he wants just makes sense to you after that and you do whatever he wants even though you don't want to."
"Maybe Ga'al's gone all Plissken. I heard he was dead."
"So, what's this child he's tryin' to dominate? Didja see the woman? She looked all tired. How we gonna go to the womb? That don't make no sense."
"Hey, you know, it's really funny, but when I think of Bloodpack I think of gnomes. Weerd. Wonder why that is?"
Durgan Tuesday February 17th, 2009 3:46:15 PM
Durgan shrugged his shoulders. As far as quests go, this one didn't sound too bad. What could happen? "Well I think ye all have figured out what they meant eh? probably get no more from them." Durgan adjusts his armor to a more comfortable position. "Well at least they didn't outlaw ale. That's what I was really worried about."
Speaking with the Crones(DM SteveK) Tuesday February 17th, 2009 5:10:16 PM
The timeless moment continues, only the Children of Chaos and the liquidy-light beings seem capable of moving. The light beings behind the five women-shaped forms of bright light seem to wait in an encouraging manner. There are up to a dozen that the Children can see, some very indistinct, some (like the ever changing man-animal) almost as clear as the Crones themselves.
The five Crones seem to confer for a moment, and then with a simultaneous nod, four of them stand still while one, One moves forward a single step towards the heroes. Her light brightens still more, basking the area in almost painful light, yet her voice is of matronly concern.
"You, our Children, have guessed well in the hints and prophesies foretold. And so can you guess on why we provide you only these glimpses of possibilities?
When Powers and even greater entities interpose themselves directly upon the Wold, it tends to go poorly with the mortals in that affected area. And so we give ... hints to help our chosen heroes to take the action for us. We know that interference given directly to you may also allow our opponent to provide greater interference for his designs.
And such is the case now. The Northern One that our latest daughter describes is indeed seeking his powerbase, this time by using Woldsblood and the Sargrass. In dominating these tools, he now has power over death. Instead of dying, those within his sphere are ever alive, but now bound to him by the silken cords of domination.
The Power of LIfe-and-Death can break this hold, but only at the expense of breaking every living thing on the Continent of the Powers. Yet we and the other Powers have another way.
That way is the event that you have had in your dreams and prophesies." (The CoC can tell from a slight hesitation that the Crone does not wish to speak the name of the ... event)
"The best way to help your people is to begin the event."
The Crone seems to hesitate, looking at the reactions of the heroes before continuing...
"Take our Bell and visit the 'Pack. They know the way to the Center.
At the Center, there is a place for the Bell. Place it there and strike it to begin the Event.
Know that you will be opposed. Yet no change is ever done without price."
Xenia (AC27, HP86/86) Tuesday February 17th, 2009 9:01:16 PM
Newest daughter? Xenia points a finger at herself, her face a dark and open question mark. Who else? Want to or not, that puts her in it. Right there smack in this Chaos thing. Unconsciously, she touches the back of her hand, the place where the strange tattoo had magically appeared. Wynn? What does this mean for you? I think they need me for this. I miss you so much. At night, when I turn, touch the bed, and there's no one there. But I think they need me for this. Wynn, I love you. I'll make my way back to you. Some day. But they need me for this now.
"Alright," Xenia takes the lenses off her face and runs the back of her hand across her eyes, "you Chaos Guys know where to find this Bloodpack, right? Lets get this Bell thingie and go, huh?" She takes a deep breath and puffs it out, ending with a sniffle or two. "Give us the Bell, huh, and lets go."
Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166 d20+10=22 ; Tuesday February 17th, 2009 9:06:11 PM
Peerimus remains silent taking all in that the Crones are saying. There were questions inded swirling through his head, but none that the druid deems worthy of voicing. The Bloodpack, a worthy group from what he has seen and heard, but also a group not easily given to trust and direction from outside thier circle. They would have to tread carefully about them. The dangers they would face were already known to some extent and he felt confident that they had deduced the signs and stories correctly. This latest piece that the Crones had delvered changed some but not much to where it was truly important to the druid. The womb, the beginning of life, of change itself. It seemed to Peerimus that the way to Dominate the child being referred to would mean to kill the child and thus bind it with the silver chord or thread that the dryad saw bind Ohzone. It was a near certainty in the druid's mind that Ohzone would be one of the mighty protectors the enemy would be using in the conflict. Would the dragon be as potent as an unliving thing? Likely, just an exchange of some power for others, that was unfortunate. it meant thier last encounter could not be used as a template for defeating him this time. the battle would be completely different.
The event was clear, Peerimus was glad none of the others felt the need to name it. How that would fend off this great power of the north was a bit baffling, but The Crones, and likely the other Powers standing behind them in reinforcement of the plan and choice of the Crones Champions, knew that would indeed do so. Peerimus dismissed his musing on the matter as unimportant. After, yes afterwards, he would look into it and try and apply some reason to how it could do so. Witches? Peerimus gives a slight smile to himself. An adaquate description he mused and one he had used himself some time ago during his first visual encounter with the Crones of the South. [Listen 22] Ga'al, Peerimus files away the name to speak to Xenia and Angus further about him. Firngaer, too, is from the north and might also have some light on the matter to reveal.
They would need a ship and would need to sail to find the Bloodpack. Could he navigate back to the hidden Home of the group or would they need more assistance from the Manfri? the druid knew where he might be able to talk to them, but they might not know themselves. Strange people they were however and so it was at least a possibility. First though he would need to see if he could find his way there on his own. Perhaps some inner comtemplation would provide insight to his chances.
Finally the druid moves and speaks, Both hands clasp each other at breast height, his elbows parrallel to the floor and with a nod the druids solemly states, "This god has made a greivous error and your champions stand ready. He will not succeed."
Jurgen Tuesday February 17th, 2009 10:18:52 PM
Jurgen smiles at Rash's desire to have the Crones provide something more than riddles and hints. His face shows his surprise when they speak. The situation must have been pretty extreme for them to elaborate; perhaps this really was was the beginning of the end-game.
He bows low to one knee with Peerimus' honoring. "I stand with the Children." He eyes are focused on Xenia. The woman was an oddity in the Children and Jurgen makes a mental note to pay some specific attention to her situation. And Angus too. Bring them into the loop. Give them a new community to be a part of. And do this amidst the Great Migration. Yeah, Jurgen. Fantastic timing on your part. Kneeling there, with his thoughts focused on the newest Children, Jurgen waits for the group to satisfy themselves so that the Crones would give up the Bell.
Trace and Rhino Tuesday February 17th, 2009 10:27:02 PM
Trace pats Rhino on his armor, "Ready to ride into battle?" Other than that Trace remains quite and waits for his marching orders.
Rash Trinka Wednesday February 18th, 2009 8:28:03 AM
Rash Trinka says to her new found companions, "I don't think we are going to get much time to enjoy our new homes. Still if we can avoid a war between two powerful gods, I believe it is in our best interest to do whatever it takes to make that happen or everyone we know and love is going to suffer. A strive between" Rash pauses for a moment considering her words, "Death and Domination could shatter this entire Wold."
Turning back to the Crones, the cleric continues, "While I have heard stories of the Bell of Chaos, I have never seen it. Is it heavy?" She shakes her head, "No matter...please give it to us so we can end this menace."
She bows in respect to the Crones
She then pulls Peerimus to the side and says, "I think we need to go pick a fight with some of these undead. I have a feeling that they are not going to respond like normal undead would and I don't think we want to go into the heart of the situation without having proper preparations made. Not with stakes this high.
Angus HP 66/66 SR 20 Wednesday February 18th, 2009 10:05:58 AM
Angus nods to Xenia "I remember the witches as they cast a fear spell on me. I have taken some precautions on that front." Angus adjusts his new headband.
Angs looks to Rash "I was only getting settled in and now it is time to go. I barely got to know Henemar or Hook City."
Angus looks to each in the group "Do we have time to make preparation for our absence or are we teleporting away right now?"
End of a Conversation (DM SteveK) Wednesday February 18th, 2009 2:43:26 PM
The one blue-light-liquid figure of a woman seems to see into the Children's thoughts and intentions.
"We have chosen well. The Bell will be here when we depart. Make certain it is not ever sounded until properly placed at the Center of everything.
A warning, our children. You must meet the 'Pack tomorrow. Do not tarry, for you must be swifter than the wind."
The one illuminated woman steps back and then all five Crones raise a hand in benediction and farewell.
So too do the blue-liquid-light figures further in the circle. And the man-animal shifts again and then *winks* at Peerimus. "Adapt" he laughs, and the pregnant elf puts a hand on the man's arm before also turning to Peerimus. "Protect" she cautions....
And suddenly the lights are .... GONE!
The circle of clerics collapse in various stages of exhaustion. The Children of Chaos do not feel any fatigue at all, in fact, they feel like they have had a complete night's rest (ooc: with all spells restored and memorized)!
The faint light of dawn filters into the Temple foyer where the CoC stand. In the light before you is a Medium (four foot tall, three foot diameter) Black Bell. It may look different from the times before, but everyone immediately understands what it is.
Lhari, the intelligent staff of Evocation states the obvious anyways in a tone of awe. "The Chaos Bell!", he breathes.
Xenia (AC27, HP86/86) Wednesday February 18th, 2009 3:59:25 PM
Huh?!? What?!? The dark rogue stands, completely taken aback. This is her Jaw Drop face, escaped out all on its own.
"That's the Bell?" The top of the thing comes all the way up to her chin! "That's the Bell what we're supposed to Womb of some borning child?" Jaw Drop face makes way for Incredulous and Overly Excited face. "How we supposed to do that? It's ginormous." She throws up her hands.
"We need to get a cart. And some pads or sump'in to keep it from ringing itself a'fore we're ready. Or a hole. One of them Portable Hole thingies." She frowns. I think maybe I can afford one of them. We got a day, huh? I can pick up one of them magic holes at the Catacombs and meetcha back here. Someone get some blankets and stuff for pads. We'll pack it up, put it in the hole and then go."
Angus HP 66/66 SR 20 Wednesday February 18th, 2009 4:36:24 PM
Angus looks at the bell "That is waay too big for me to carry and me without a shrink item spell." Angus looks at Xenia "A cart is a good idea, but we do not move like the wind in a cart. At least not a cart I have been in."
Angus will call over to Trace "Can Rhino pull a cart? Is he trained?"
Angus will inspect the bell to see what is it material of construction and get an idea of its weight (also see if there are enchantments on the bell - arcane sight). "We need to secure the clanger if it has one, so that it does not ring prematurely."
Angus looks at all the exhausted clerics "Thank you for your efforts. We will do what we can."
Angus looks back at his new found friends "I can travel like the wind, via teleport, but I do not know where we are going. If someone teleports me to where we are going, I can come back any transport more of us to the Bloodpack."
Angus looks to the group "What time do we leave as I wanted to stop by to see Archemides?"
Xenia (AC27, HP86/86) Wednesday February 18th, 2009 5:49:39 PM
"Rhino?" the rogue whispers, temporarily derailed from her track. hehe "Sorry, Trace, but I was thinking that was one big ugly horse you got there."
Durgan Wednesday February 18th, 2009 9:00:50 PM
"If we are to be travelling like the wind, then somebody better come up with sumthin, because I can only run so fast." Durgan gives Kazak a dirty look that promises a good brotherly beatdown if anything is made of Durgan 'running around at his age'.
"The magic to transport it sounds good though. I also got me bag of holding if ye think that will work?" Durgan tries to take it all in. Events were moving quickly, and dwarves were not always quick to adjust.
Firn'gaer; See Invisibility, SR18, Tongues Wednesday February 18th, 2009 9:16:27 PM
Firn'gaer listens to the Crones intently. Most of the time he strokes his beard. He doesn't say anything after the Crones finish.
"I can teleport some to the Bloodpack as long as I have a decent description of where they are. I can take everyone as soon as I prepare the teleport spells. I suspect that they may be at the Drow community we went to deliver the message to Trish. So, if everyone is ready to go, I'll need about an hour to get ready."
"Peerimus if you have another Tree tokens, I can plant it outside the Drow home. If you would prefer to travel that way."
Kazak - Wednesday February 18th, 2009 9:54:41 PM
Kazak nods as Peerimus sets the tone for their upcoming task ...... " "This god has made a greivous error and your champions stand ready. He will not succeed." .... ...." I'm with ya on dat " growls the dwarf in support of the druids statement .....
Staring at the black chaos bell ....." any way we can silence the bell ?/ .... magically that is ? .... dis way it won't be rung aloud " ......adds Kazak ......
At Durgan's comment about running .... the younger brother opens his mouth then closes it .... then opens it again as he grins widely ...... but he cannot contain himself ... " well you can always use that cane of yours " .... as he points to his brothers weapon ...... quickly heading to the doorway to put some healthy distance between them ..... but still giggles are heard from Kazak as he heads to the door ....." time to get any gear we need quickly ...den we can go meet dis Bloodpack .......
Once outside and headed to the wharehouse to pack ..... the dwarven warrior's grin fades ..... only the words from the crones echo in his head ......." Yet no change is ever done without price." ....
Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166 Wednesday February 18th, 2009 10:40:47 PM
Peerimus laughs aloud as the man-animal winks at him and just as quickly tries to cover the smile to a more serious expression when he makes contact with the elven woman. He had not felt so wonderful in years, perhaps ever. The light fades, the bell is present and Peerimus chuckles almost giggles for a few moments in the near silence that follows the departure of the Crones. the druid shoots Yorrick a wink and gives the bear a hug, speaking to him in ursine. Yorrick's head bobs about and and grunts pleasantly in return.
The druid then stands straighter to look at the rest of the group. "I believe I can carry the Bell safe enough as any other magic." Peerimus nods to Firngaer, "I suspect the Drow home is precisely where we can find them. I do have a Tree token, though not from preference, but to eleviate your need to prepare so many teleport spells friend. We need first to return to Labortown. Our agreement with Hook City is to use the Courtyard for all magical transit. Xenia hold on that idea for a moment."
Peerimus hand Firngaer a pair of tree tokkens. He then animates his shield to defend him. Pulling a wand of CSW out and hands it to Trace. To Rash he gives a Cure Critical Wounds spell adn to Jurgen he hands a Bracelet and an explanantion. "I purchased this to give to Didi. I need you to give it to her if this works. I'll explain more later. Peerimus will then move over to the Bell and firmly grasp it in a hug, but will not try and pick it up. The druid then Shifts into the form of a Dire Bear.

Rash Trinka Wednesday February 18th, 2009 11:40:22 PM
ooc I believe I scribed extra heal scrolls for Xenia, Kazak and Durgan. Did I do them for anyone else?
Rash mentally prepares herself for the rigors ahead. She says to the others, "I believe we are heading into this slightly blind on the abilities of our foe or at least his minions. These undead have me concerned. I wonder if they are normal undead or will have special ablilities? Will any other foes we face and kill just rise up and attack us? If one of us fall, will we be facing one of our own with our abilities and skills turned against us? I think I need to cast some divination to try and figure some of these tactical questions out."
ooc Steve, you mentioned that we are totally refreshed with new spells. Could I cast a divination or do I need to rest before hand. If I can cast it then my question will be, "Will normal combat spells and tactics be useful against the undead in our upcoming adventure."
Jurgen d20+6=9 ; Thursday February 19th, 2009 1:08:58 AM
The experience leaves Jurgen not sure how to feel. It reminded him of how he felt when he prayed to Domi. But with Domi, Jurgen felt a purpose an order to his life. With the Crones, Chaos was the only power at play. Still, he couldn't ignore that he felt good. "In the service of two masters..." He whispers.
Jurgen looks at the Bell and squints his eyes real tight. Immediately all thoughts of taking it on a ship across the Plains vanish. "Firn'gaer is right. We should teleport this. Anything could happen on a ship out in the Sargrass, as we've already discovered." He takess his backpack off and sets it on the ground next to the Bell. Rummaging through it, he pulls out hsi entertainering outfit and a green t-shirt ("Neutral Evil Isn't So Bad..."). "Peerimus, once you lift it, I'll mute the ... clanger? So that even if it does ring accidentally, the only effect will be cloth connecting with metal. Hopefully, that's enough to stall the magic." When the bear-druid does, Jurgen goes under and wraps all of the clothing around the clanger [[Use Rope: d20+6=9. Retry: Taking 20 - 26]. The first time, the bindings fall harmlessly to the ground and he sighes. Taking considerably longer, the paladin eventually manages the task.
He tosses the bracelet for Didi into his pocket with little more than a nod. "If anyone has any pressing business to manage, I'd guess you've the next hour or so to finish it. I'll meet with you back at the Warehouse, I have to speak with my... Cult." He shakes his head as he leaves the Temple and heads towards the Temple of the Great Migration.
Xenia (AC27, HP86/86) d20+6=7 ; Thursday February 19th, 2009 9:11:53 AM
"Well ... that's one way to do it," the rogue comments as Peerimus the Bear hugs the bell into his furry arms and lifts it from the ground. Looking up under the bell as the Jurgen Guy messes with the insides, she twitches her nose by way of a shrug. "Dunno," she adds. "On second thought, this is, like, a magic bell, right? Do you really think any kinda messing is gonna stop it from ringing if it wants to ring?" (Disable Device 7/Nat1)
Then, a word reaches her sensitive ears. A single word. Drow.
Her only reaction is in a greater stillness as she listens to the Chaos Guys talk about the Drow. Drow community. Drow home. Sounds like these Bloodpack Guys are knee deep in evil. Drow evil. The Chaos Guys know it. And, the Chaos Guys don't do nothing about it ...
Firn'gaer; See Invisibility, SR18, Tongues Thursday February 19th, 2009 10:00:24 AM
Firn'gaer gives a smile to his friend. "I also figured once the Migration begins, it would be nice to be able to make contact with our friends and allies. The trees are an easy way to do that."
"You're probably right." He says to Xenia. "The ringing of the bell probably is a metaphoric ringing and not an actual ringing. I also think it will require more than striking it to activate it."
"Let's remember that this drow community is very cautious. Let's not start anything because of any misunderstandings. For once, let's not live up to our namesake."
He winks at Xenia and whispers as he walks by. "Stereotypes can be a difficult label to shake. You understand this better that most."
"Right, let's get started. I'll go ahead with 4 others and Trace's rhino. I'll plant the tree, and then Peerimus can come through with 4 others and Yorrick. I think that brings everyone. So unless there are any last minutes things to add, we can get the party started.

OoC: I'm still in the Catacombs trying to transact a last minute purchase.
Hook City, the Next Day (DM SteveK) d100=80 ; Thursday February 19th, 2009 11:14:04 AM
The clerics of the Crones are too exhausted to take part in any discussion, but the CoC themselves talk of several plans to 1) Move the Chaos Bell, 2) Keep it Silent, 3) Quickly prepare for thier task, and 4) Move to the drow community where the Bloodpack should be.
For the first and second, inspiration strikes Peerimus. He wraps his arms around the medium-sized Bell and, taking possession of the object, he Wildshapes! Within no more than a couple seconds, there stands the great bear Peerimus, and the Chaos Bell is gone, now assumed with the druid's other possessions into the being that is the Bear.
For the fourth task, Angus and Firn'gaer both state they have Teleport spells available. With an hour of talking with Firn'gaer, Angus is certain that he will be able to Teleport to this OddHolme place without a problem. Alternately, Firn'gaer and Peerimus have a Teleport, Plant a Tree, Move through Tree plan. Both are certain to work, but there is some nagging doubt in Peerimus' mind about planting a tree in the Sargrasss...
As the CoC leave the Temple of the Crones, acolytes begin arriving in the room and taking care of the exhausted clerics. They are so prompt, that it appears they knew what to expect and were given instructions not to come in until the CoC had left the foyer.
Stepping out into the light on the Causeway, the Children of Chaos discover that a Day has passed! They went into the Temple at mid-morning, but it is now early dawn the next day!
For Preparations, the CoC turn to thier own plans. .........................
Xenia's thoughts of carts and portable holes seem less necessary with the Bell somewhere within Peerimus-Bear. Though the red-haired girl seems to have other things to worry about, like a whole community of drow in the Sargrass!
Angus' inspection of the Bell did accomplish one thing before Peerimus took care of transportation... the sorcerer is certain there is NO CLAPPER on the Bell. It will have to be rung by some other means. In getting ready, Angus stops by to see Archemides, and is able to have conversation with the learned Star Mage.
Durgan and Kazak banter in brotherly fashion and gather more mundane necessities of an adventure; like some of the Mountainhome Ale.
Peerimus is feeling good, and the Bear is able (with a person around the two Bears) to travel from the Temple back to the Warehouse and make ready under the giant Sycamore tree behind the shop. What is also more amazing, Peerimus discovers that he can now talk with anyone, even while in Bear-shape.
Rash returns to the Warehouse and, because she is fully up on spells, takes her time in a Divination of the Future. Getting settled, she casts and asks: "Will normal combat spells and tactics be useful against the undead in our upcoming adventure?" And the reply is prompt, whispering in the air before her: "Undead, not dead, reborn: by usual ability forlorn: beware the dawn each morn: final death all now scorn."
Jurgen also concludes there is no clapper on the Bell. He is able to provide the trinket to Didi once he returns to Block 452 without problems, but that is last on his 'to do' list. On leaving the Temple of the Crones, he goes to where the Great Migration Cult is setting up and is astounded to see Jhon and the others up and about, still fixing things! Jhon seems much more serene than Jurgen ever remembers the young hothead, and Jhon has a revelation for Jurgen. "The Temple of New Life and the Great Migration are not mutually exclusive, Sieur Jurgen. I must not have been as hurt as you remember seeing me, for I am fine now. And I now know that both of us are striving towards a more perfect future and in protecting others from the follies of themselves." There is not a mark on Jhon.
Firn'gaer plans ahead for thier arrival, quite unexpectedly, to the drow community, and cautions for everyone to keep thier heads about them in order to reduce misunderstandings from both sides.
Xenia (AC27, HP86/86) Thursday February 19th, 2009 11:53:48 AM
Xenia puts on a suspicious face for Firn'gaer, the once human, now gnome. Did he somehow magic her and read her mind?
"Alright, Fernie," she says upon catching up to the wizard, "I get what you're trying to say by talkin' 'round stuff. I get it. You Chaos Guys think you're friends with these Drow, so you don't want me to go killing any of them down and starting a war or nothing."
"So, why don't you tell me more about this community of Drow, huh? What you know about them what makes you trust 'em? You been in their Drow Home? You live with 'em for a while? You know for sure they don't keep slaves?"
"All you've said so far 'bout them is that they're cautious, and that sure fits all the Stereotypes of Drow that I've heard 'bout so far."
Firn'gaer; See Invisibility, SR18, Tongues Thursday February 19th, 2009 12:18:40 PM
"It doesn't require any magic to know that drow would spark a harsh reaction. And after hearing about what happened to you, it is obvious that you might react as normally you should. All I ask is that you suspend what you know and see for yourself if these drow are in fact different."
"I don't know if they keep slaves. I didn't see any. But I do know the reputation of the Bloodpack, and I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt before I smite them. There is a lot at stake, and right now we cannot afford the delay. If it turns out that they have been lying, then I will be the first one to deal with them. Until that time, we should not judge. That's all I ask."
Jurgen d20+20=33 ; d20-1=13 ; d20+19=36 ; Thursday February 19th, 2009 12:46:02 PM
Jurgen lets out a sigh of relief when he realizes the group won't be relying on his knots to stop the bell. How to ring it, he'd think about later.
But seeing Jhon causes the paladin's jaw to drop. It didn't appear to be trickery, Jhon was legitimately there in front of him. And he sounded... close to the man Jurgen knew. He didn't like exactly what Jhon was saying. It sounded almost like he had been brainwashed into believing what the New Lifers believed, but Jurgen just couldn't tell [Sense Motive - d20-1=13] [Spellcraft - d20+19=36].
Jurgen lends a few words to the Cult before leaving. "Many of you felt it in your bones today, but I will confirm those feelings: The Great Migration is right around the corner." He allows them a moment of murmuring, before cutting through the noise with his powerful voice. "Which means your task is of the most importance. Gather and prepare storehouses of food and resources. And avoid the Temple of the New Life. When I leave today, I hope that I will discover enough about them to determine whether they are allies or enemies of the Migration." If he had powers of compulsion, the paladin would fill his words with it. Instead, all he can do is hope the words being his would be enough to keep them away [Diplomacy - d20+20=33]. "If you expect to survive the Great Migration, then you will heed my words now more then ever. Gather. Prepared. Spread the word. I will return when I can..."
When he leaves, he jumps into the Catacombs before heading back to the Warehouse. Once there, he gives Didi the bracelet from Peerimus with a small explanation. "This is from Peerimus. I believe I know what it is and you'll want to come with me to the Sycamore tree before we depart. In order to... key the bracelet." Jurgen smiles and walks with her, all smiles, to meet up with the rest of the group.
Angus HP 66/66 SR 20 Thursday February 19th, 2009 6:04:25 PM
Angus needs no time to prepare for travel as he has very few belongings that he do not carry on his person.
Angus has his spells ready as he is a sorcerer and needs no time to prepare beside a good night sleep or an extended stay with Crones. Angus has plenty of Telport spells at his disposal.
Angus does stop by Archimedes before leaving and asks the mage what he knows of the rumors of these new undead and the chaos bell.
Once back with the group Angus recasts his Mage Armor spell and message spell on the group and asks "So who is going with me? I hope you did not have too big a breakfast if you are." Angus smiles widely and holds out his hands for his new friends to graps before Teleporting to OldHome as described by the little gnome.
Durgan Thursday February 19th, 2009 8:18:32 PM
Durgan packs for the journey. This mostly invovles stuffing a healthy number of mini kegs of Mountainhome ale into his bag of holding, followed by large amounts of food. "Hmm that should do it eh?" Then he goes and retrieves something from his new apartment and places it in the bag. "Clean shorts for Kazak", Durgan explains. "In case we run into old Ohzone eh?" The huge grin on the dwarf's face cannot be contained by his maasive combed and braided beard. Nor would he wish for it to be.
Durgan gives Xenia an elbow to get her attention. "Don't ye worry about them drow. Just stick close to me and me brother. If they start acting up, we'll take care of them.
Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166 Thursday February 19th, 2009 10:31:01 PM
The dire bear grins as he moves away from the where the Bell used to sit. "I can maintain a shifted form indefinately." He says in a deep voice. Continuing an earlier thought , "To save on needing multiple teleports, I think using one of the tree tokkens will be the best course. The tree will not survive long, but it will be long enough. Firngaer, take as many as you can and then I will take the rest of us." His voice carries some sadness knowing what will happen, but as the Crones said, prices will be paid and this seemd to be one of them.
Peerimus will speak to Didi when she arrives about the Bracelet. He tells her that he would like one charm tied to himself and suggests either Rash or Firngaer as the other. "If at all possible, make your way to this courtyard before activating it and of course only in the direst of circumstances."
Peerimus echoes Firngaers thoughts to Xenia about the Bloodpack. "If they trust and hold them as friends then we will do so as well. Assuming Rash conveys what she learns from her divination, peerimus nods to the information. "It sounds as if any we kill will rise again in the morning with the sun. It may also very well be with us if any of our number fall. I would suggest that some of us get gear of oil and fire. perhaps the dead may stay so if thier bodies are destroyed. Remember that we will assuredly be facing the dragon again. Plan for his lightning breath and his desire to fight while aloft and beyond most of our reach."
Peerimus then sists down and seems to be in meditation with Yorrick finding a comfortable place to sit near the larger Dire bear form of Peerimus.
After Firngaer leaves, Peerimus will wait a few minutes more and then Transport Via the tree to teh Bloodpack OddHome with all that Firngaer could not take with him. Peerimus will Share the spell with Yorrick and is able to transport 5 Medium creatures or 3 + 1 large

Xenia (AC28, HP86/86) Friday February 20th, 2009 9:50:56 AM
The dark rogue nods at the reassuring words of the dwarven brother. It's nice to know that some of these Chaos Guys are not so easily taken in.
"We'll see," she says. "We'll look 'em over reeeeeaaaal close, and then we'll see."
The trip to this Center Place looks to be done in a couple of stages. Xenia does her best to be in the stage that Durgan is in.
Angus HP 66/66 SR 20 Friday February 20th, 2009 10:25:46 AM
Angus will insist on Teleporting himself as he wants to learn the area by magical travel. "Never can know enough places."
Rash Trinka Friday February 20th, 2009 11:36:14 AM
Rash Trinka does tell the others of her answers from her spell. "I don't think we can count on these undead to act like normal undead. I would almost guess that they are possessed somehow and not real undead. I will try to turn some when I see them but I doubt it will work. Only time will tell on that score. I also fear that if we kill them, they will rise again in the morning, so lets get this done in one day!"
Rash prepares herself for battle casting her long duration spells using her normal means and gets her prayers for other spells that she believes will be useful in the upcoming battle.

"Wynn cut that cord with his adamantine sword and when he cut it, the undead guys stopped, like they was stunned for a bit. Didn't take 'em down, though. Just stunned 'em for a while."

Xenia (AC28, HP86/86) Monday February 23rd, 2009 4:30:24 PM
"Here. I was meaning to give this to you at, like, a better time, you know." Xenia, dressed up in full spying togs, presses her newly crafted bow into the hands of Madame Didi of the new Eight Seventy Seven Guys. "I mean, sort of as a congratulations for taking up with your own group and all."
The grain on the laminated strips of blonde wood are matched such that they form a pattern of whorls that twist about the like curls of smoke. The polish upon the surface of the shortbow glows like amber honey.
"I think we're going to a bad place now. And ... and so I wantcha to have it before we go. Take care of your group, and take care of your city. Watch out for them religious crazies. All of 'em. They all got weerd bees in their butts."
"See you when we get back." The rogue gives her signature hand wave. "Maybe."

And... Teleport! (DM SteveK) Tuesday February 24th, 2009 4:48:38 PM Jurgen speaks urgently with the Cult of the Great Migration. They all listen carefully, but it seems that not all agree. No one looks ready to dispute Jurgen while he is there, however, and the Paladin goes to met the other CoC knowing he has done his best, and fearing that his best may not be good enough...
Xenia gives her bow and Jurgen provides Madame Didi with the bracelet while Peerimus describes the magical properties. Didi is very touched by the gifts, and promises to use them both only when absolutely necessary.
Angus stops by Archimedes and learns all the old mage knows of the rumors of these new undead and the chaos bell. Sadly, the mage knows less than the CoC have already discovered.
The others make thier last minute preparations as well, but soon enough the CoC are gathered underneath the Sycamore Tree in the secluded garden behind the small store.
And then the Children of Chaos are ready to go!
Firn'gaer and Angus are ready to teleport, and in the face of both mages insisting on doing the teleportation spell, Peerimus finds that the Tree Token isn't required: All the Children of Chaos are magically transported to a portion of the Sargrass directly before a large Grass Dome.
The dome is as Peerimus, Kazak, Durgan, Trace, Rash, and Firn'gaer remember it. The hot winds of the Sargrass strike the heroes like they are standing too close to an open oven. It is HOT!!!
Behind the Children of Chaos, the tall Sargrass rises almost 20 feet into the air, blocking out sight beyond the immediate area. For about 100 feet around the Grass Dome, the 'Grass is much shorter and grows only a couple inches high.
In one wall of the Grass Dome (easily big enough to contain a small village) there is a black opening as if a tunnel leads inside. In front of this opening, the hard-packed dirt is turned to sand in a perfect circle about 40 feet across.
There doesn't appear to be anyone here.

Peerimus casts Endure Elements on himself and Yorrick first and foremost. He then stands to get a better view of the area. Spot 42 "Let's move inside." Peerimus takes the lead and with Yorrick at his right side, the pair of bears move to enter the dome. In a loud voice as he approaches, Peerimus calls out "Anyone home! We are seeking assistance!"

"Hey, I'll be around, Durgan" from the corner of her mouth, Xenia whispers to the dwarf. "Angus," she nudges the sorcerer gently and surreptitiously in the side, "you wanna Message me up a'fore I go transparent?"
Then she whispers to her ring and the dark rogue disappears.
Stepping into the shadows, she puts distance between herself and the group as Peerimus draws the attention of anyone who might be waiting in the darkness. One hand reaches for her bow as the other raises to wipe the sweat, already raised, on the dark skin above her copper colored brows.
"STOP!" She whispers from the shadows near the edge of the dome as the druid and his bear approach the dark area on the dome. "The line," she continues "The line. The sand. The perfect circle. Don't it look like a trap?"
The rogue puzzles over it. Might be a trap. But what sort of trap is a mystery.

Jurgen d20+8=10 ; Tuesday February 24th, 2009 7:58:47 PM
The other side of the teleport reminds Jurgen of why he had been considering some Endure Elements spells. Yet again, the paladin's forgetfulness has caused him some hassle. The Grass Dome is just as mysterious to him now as it was before. There were some things that were outside of his expertise. "Like that circle of sand," he says to himself. Fairly certain it wasn't an active spell, he still does his best to recall if it was an after-effect of anything magical [Arcane Knowldge - d20+8=10]. It doesn't seem that familiar to him.
The paladin-sorcerer waits on a further understanding of the circle of sand before moving through it.
[OOC: I've been slacking in the Catacombs. Hopefully Steve and Brian will let my laziness this weekend slide and allow Jurgen to have the floating disk scrolls he's buying right now. If they do, next post Jurgen will start taking care of the Bell with one]
Durgan Tuesday February 24th, 2009 10:15:41 PM
OOC- Xenia, take the scroll and add it to CS. Rash, do I owe you for one of the scrolls you scribed?
"Durgan grunts in the oppressive heat. "Oh, I remember this place. All hot and stinging bugs. Wonderful place to build a home eh? Why don't everyone like to build homes in nice cool caves?"
Durgan takes a look at the sand but does not step onto it. "Hmm. Does anyone remember if that stuff was here the last time we were here?"
Rash Trinka d20+8=25 ; d20+8=20 ; Tuesday February 24th, 2009 11:33:40 PM
Rash Trinka steps into the area and looks around intently trying to spot anything that might give a clue on where all the people were and if something might have happened to them. (spot check 25) She will notice the others immediately break out into sweat and smile to herself and congratulate herself on her endure element spell that she is now casting daily.
She will see the tunnel and move closer to examine the sandy ground and the tunnel wondering what might have caused the trouble and wondering if some kind of spell might have caused it (know arcane check of 20) She will share any answers with the rest of the group is she comes up with anything.
She says, "Well looks like we are moving into some kind of trouble. There should be people here and the fact that they are missing doesn't bode well. Either they are hiding or something has driven them away or killed them. None of those things are good."

"Hold on." He says. "I want to take a look before we go in. We don't want any surprises." He looks at the entrance and what hall he can see with arcane sight and see invisibility. (Take 10 on Spellcraft and KS - arcane; DC41 and DC36 respectively)

"I think I may be sleeping at the warehouse tonight. I will bring water and breakfast in the morning."

Outside of Oddholme (DM SteveK) Wednesday February 25th, 2009 3:38:46 PM
The Children of Chaos once again are reminded of the harsh climate of the Sargrass Plains as they stand in the intense heat of the day. Spells are cast to better endure the temperature, and Peerimus, Rash, Trace, and Firn'gaer are protected from the oppressive heat. The others are going to have to endure, at least until they get into a sheltered area.
The Sand Circle is the first obstacle the group sees. It doesn't completely block the entrance, at least 20 feet separating the Circle from the dark tunnel-like etrance to the dome, and so it would be simple to go around, especially since it is an obvious circle. Rash and Firn'gaer are able to tell the others that it is the remains of a druidic or earth-aligned clerical spell, Soften Earth and Stone and should do nothing other than stop people from running and charging. Why it is here remains a mystery...
Peerimus calls out thier arrival in Common even though he is in bear-form, and moves to the entrance of the dark tunnel.
Firn'gaer uses his arcane sight and detects a weak Abjuration aura at the tunnel entrance. (ooc: remember a spell check is needed to get the auras at DC 15 + spell level of effect. I already gave the info this time. :-)
Xenia arrives at the entrance with Peerimus and cautions the druid-bear to not go further until the spellcasters are done with thier analysis. The sand or the spell Firn'gaer detects could be dangerous after all.
Peerimus, Kazak, Durgan, Firn'gaer, Trace, and Rash conduct Recent Memory Check (straight check + Int bonus) DC 5 to remember Highlight to display spoiler: { The last (and only) time the CoC were here, they sailed up on the GrassSwift and were met by two drow named Murdock (arcane-type) and Aeryon (warrior-type). The two drow (once cross-examination was complete) confirmed this was the home of the Bloodpack but they weren't in right then. They promised to give the letter to Mara Weaver's daughter. They also remember the Sand Circle was here last time, too. Oh, and that the little people of the Sargrass, the Manfri, said the drow were OK.}
Xenia (AC28, HP86/86) Wednesday February 25th, 2009 5:04:49 PM
The dark rogue nods at the revelation that the circle of sand is the remnants of a druid spell. It's a nod that no one sees. Been fighting here before. But how long ago? Earth softened to sand. How long ago? No bodies. No signs of blood. Wonder who won?
"I'm moving in, Angus." Her invisible lips move with the words. "I'll whisper back if it's clear."
She slips past the circle of sand and through the entrance of the dome. Green eyes born of elfish blood drink in what little light streams through the very big arched entryway to the far reaches of the interior of the dome.
Keeping up a stream of description, a feed to Angus of What Xenia Sees, the rogue proceeds into the Dome of the Desert Drow. Rolls and Actions Hide 54 (+20 for Invisibility) Move Silently 34 Spot 38 Listen 33

Rash Trinka Wednesday February 25th, 2009 11:28:52 PM
Rash fingers her weapons and decides to animate her shield preparing for any nasty surprises. She stares down the tunnel wondering if some big nasty would soon be stampeding towards them bellowing death. She doesn't like this mystery. She wants to start yelling loudly and banging down doors looking for the townspeople or at least some sign on what happened to them but wisely is able to restrain herself and wait for the sneaky Xenia to perform her scout function.
"Peerimus, should we explore the town or head down this tunnel? I vote for the tunnel because my gut tells me that that is the way to go to find the townspeople and this Bloodpack group." Rash pauses for a second, a reflective expression on her face, and then says, "I wonder where they got the name the Bloodpack? That is sort of a strange name...no stranger than the Children of Chaos but still strange. Why can't anyone call themselves the Grey Knights or something like that? Maybe we should change our group's name. Maybe the Adults of Chaos? At least it sounds more grown up." Rash lets her ramble die away realizing that nerves are making her speak out of turn.

Jurgen Thursday February 26th, 2009 3:49:28 AM
Jurgen suffers through the heat in silence, although he's beginning to become drenched in sweat. "We could just boldly enter... You know, on the off-chance that one group doesn't want to kill us today." The paladin grins as he speaks, making the attempt at humor clear. "They do know who we are and, if this is a mission for the Crones, perhaps they already know about it?"
He takes a moment to cast Floating Disk from a scroll [Caster Level 10] and using that to carry the Chaos Bell on top of it. But instead of letting it remain a comfortable distance, Jurgen makes sure that it is always within arms reach... It was an artifact and if someone wanted to touch it, he was sure going to make them go through him first.

Clarifications (DM SteveK) Thursday February 26th, 2009 9:19:19 AM
ooc: Just to make sure we're all on the same page. :-)
OddHolme - The CoC are currently outside the enormous grass dome with only one known way in (the dark tunnel). Outside the dome there are only the short grasses close by and the giant Sargrasses surrounding everything. It is assumed that the giant grass dome is big enough to house a good sized village, but the CoC can't see anything other that what is described.
Chaos Bell - The Bell was 'possessed' by Peerimus and he is holding it in the same place his other possessions go when he wild-shaped into a Dire Bear. No one can see the Chaos Bell right now because it isn't here.

Durgan worries about Xenia
Kazak wants to get out of the heat before he melts.
Rash animates her shield against any problems and votes to head into the tunnel.
Jurgen sweats and follows Peerimus.
Peerimus and Yorrick skirts the sand and heads inside the dome.
Angus casts polymorph, making him into a Pixie, then flies up 30 feet to look around. Amazingly, he can still see the area where the invisible Xenia is. ..........................
The Children of Chaos are able to get into the tunnel without mishap, and all can feel relief over the coolness in the dome. Xenia moves about 50 feet in front of the group and keeps her patter up to inform the others via the Message spell.
Xenia can tell that the tunnel is an arch about 15 feet wide and tall. The walls and cieling are made of what looks to be densely woven Sargrass. This part is not airtight, and little zephyrs of air continue to move up and down the tunnel as well as through the walls. Xenia finds it is dark but not pitchblack, and from light filtering from ahead, behind, and through the weave of grass, her lowlight vision can see 20 feet ahead of her.
At 50 feet in the tunnel, Xenia hears a scrunch of footsteps on the dirt coming down the tunnel towards the entrance and the CoC. She can't see a thing, and so is mildly surprised when a voice whispers almost in her ear!
"My Alarm went off almost a minute ago. Be wary, there may be intruders in OddHolme already." says one low voice.
And another voice speaks up. "The Manfri did not alert us."
And then the first voice whispers again. "So the intruders did not sail or walk here. Be very wary."
The voices stop, but the soft shuffle of one set of footsteps continues towards the entrance.
"In coming, Angus." The dark rogue stands, poised and unmoving, allowing the voices to pass.
"Two voices. Probs 'nvisible like me. They know you're here. They're calling you 'intruders'. May be one more out there named Manfred. One staying here. Another coming your way now."
"Warn the others, Angus. I'm gonna try and distract these guys. Come up behind 'em and take 'em by surprise."
Quietly, quietly, Xenia puts up her bow and brings out her special Gray Bag. From within she pulls a small ball of fuzz which she tosses to a place twenty feet back in the direction of the heat, the light, and the opening of this weerdo grass dome. The ball of fuzz lands, and the long low form that materializes immediately takes a spitting hissing defensive stance.

Inside of Oddholme (DM SteveK) Friday February 27th, 2009 2:52:12 PM Xenia reports the presense of two beings and then waits for them to pass before chucking a Weasel out of her Bag of Tricks.
As the Weasel is out of the Bag of Tricks, the animal will obey any command given by Xenia. Keeping quiet, the Weasel is out on his own and looks around for a target. Finding none within his sight, he settles down into a defensive stance.
Firn'gaer moves to the front of the group and calls out.
Rash draws her sword and moves steadily down the tunnel looking for trouble.
Kazak continues to follow Peerimus, hands weaponless.
Peerimus wants Kazak and Durgan to take the lead, and cautions the others that the CoC are the intruders here. He wants Rash to put down her weapon and calls for a light.
Angus suggests that shouting up the tunnel is less supportive of Xenia's scouting than in the sorcerer relaying to the group. The pixie then plants a light spell in front of the group after announcing the spell.
Jurgen suggests that both teams are supposed to be 'good guys' and makes a show that he is not looking for a confrontation. .........................
Sneakiness is the name of the game until Angus sets his Light spell off. Then the situation is fully identified rather well.
Both the CoC and the first invisible Drow are in shadows.
Angus and Firn'gaer can see the first Drow. He is in light armor with a bow, arrow is Ready
Xenia can't see any of the Drow, but she knows they are in the area because of the sounds.
.............
When the Light spell goes off, Firn'gaer and Angus can see the bowman Drow tense and then relax somewhat. The bow is pointed at the ground right now. And the drow calls over his shoulder.
"Looks like that group who came by a couple months ago."
And then he turns to look at the dwarves and Jurgen and Firn'gaer. "Just to make sure. What was the name on the letter you delivered? And what kind of animal is my companion, Rover?"
Xenia knows the other voice hasn't moved so knows he is nearby, but doesn't know exactly where.

The Chaos Guys. Under the light from above, they're coming in like they pretty much don't 'spect to be attacked.
The Voices. The tenor of them, it ain't stabby attacky. With a single word she could have the weasel seek one of those voices out. Smell it to ground. Then they'd all know where it was.
Were they the drow? The ones the Chaos Guys were talking 'bout? What would they look like, real and in the flesh? Xenia reviews the few curses that she'd memorized in her book-learned Undercommon.
For now, though, she says nothing, waiting for either the Chaos Guys or the Would-Be-Possibly-Drow, to make a move.

DROW!!!
If there had been any doubt as to what was behind the invisible voices, Angus dispels them now. Drow. These are drow.
Xenia reaches with the surety bought by long hard training and her hands fill with the things she needs. Bow. Scroll. Her eyes search for the telltale signs of invisible critters moving about. If they don't know how to hide their footprints. If they don't know how to mask their movement, you can see when they're in the area. Somewhere within 30ft. Any Drow treachery and *bam*, they get the glittery dust. Then *schutk*, they get arrows up their fram-drow-damning backsides.

Jurgen Sunday March 1st, 2009 6:42:22 PM
There was too much talking going on and not enough of it was helpful. Jurgen decides not to add to the caucophany of sound. Instead he raises his hands, showing off the tattoos that adorn him. The Chaos Spiral transformed into the Chaos Bell might be confusing, but he hoped it would have some meaning for them either way. And the symbol of Domi was known to most adventurers, even here on the Southern Continent.
Aeryon and Murdock (DM SteveK) Monday March 2nd, 2009 9:37:42 PM
A rueful laugh comes out of the invisible drow. "I think we can forego the invisibility, Murdock", he says. And a moment later, both drow are seen by all eyes; the ranger and the wizard. Aeryon the ranger smiles at Peerimus, "can't be too careful since there aren't many of us."
That brings a small smile from the wizard which is quickly gone. "Understatement", he mutters where only the invisible Xenia can hear. And then louder, "Come, Children of Chaos, we will go to the Central Chamber."
The journey is a few hundred feet of dim tunnel that occasionally branches out left or right before it opens to what appears to be a brightly lit small arena or a large audience chamber with tiered seating. The tunnel empties directly on the sandy floor of the chamber, and the Children of Chaos can see three other openings going out that are similar to the one they just cam in on. In the center of the sandy floor, a three story stone tower is built. Above everything, the top of the OddHolme dome is seen a hundred feet above everyone, and this is where the light (but no heat) of the Sargrass Sun shines through the OddHolme weavings.
Looking about, the walls here have openings that appear to be balconies, windows, and staircases. But the only ones moving in the entire complex are the Children of Chaos and the two drow.
"Make yourself at home, Children of Chaos", says Aeryon. "The Bloodpack is out on business right now, but we expect them back before the end of the day." He seems abnormally outgoing for a drow.
The one called Murdock seems to have much fewer words than Aeryon. Sitting on one of the tiered seats near Firn'gaer and Angus, he looks a question at the gnome and human. "Teleported?"
Rash Trinka Monday March 2nd, 2009 10:42:39 PM
Rash smiles at Murdock and answers for the others saying, "Yes we teleported in. I hope we didn't upset you with our just popping in. It is much easier to travel this way and it saves so much time and money. Horses are always wearing out and it is tough to ride through these grasses. Where is the Bloodpack? Is there some way we might assist them?"
Kazak - Monday March 2nd, 2009 11:29:53 PM
Trudging after Peerimus and Yorrick ..... the dwarven warrior peers upward at the tower and the ceiling above it .... " nice place .... cool ..... spacious "
Glamering his armor to appear as his normal clothes .... " Good to see ya again .... " as he greets Aeryon and Murdock ......"we brought a couple new friends wit us ..... da tall skinny one is Angus ... and da bright and cheery one is Xenia " .... growls Kazak as he points out their newest additions to the group .... " so have ya heard any intresting tidbits ??"
Searching out some water ... the dwarf pulls out a drinking mug and helps himself ....
Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166 Tuesday March 3rd, 2009 7:22:57 AM
The dire bear grins back at Aeryon. "Too few of us I agree." Peerimus follows and enters the spacious chamber and finds a seat. An eyebrow arches to Kazak, "I'm surprised to hear you say that. I always thought dwarves preferred thier spaces a bit closer overhead."
On the subject of the Bloodpack, Peerimus asks the pair of sentries what business they might be on. "For rumor and portence has reached our ears of a brewing evil in the heart of the Sawgrass and that is why we have come. An evil is arising and calling to it all forms of the undying."
Angus HP 66/66 SR 20 Tuesday March 3rd, 2009 9:54:39 AM

I will also bring back some water. I heard it was hot here, but I did not realize HOW HOT."
Angus will look at the two drow "Do you two need anything from Hook City? Within reason that is. A chilled bottle of wine perhaps? Anyone else?"
If there is no serious disagreement, Angus will teleport back to Hook City to purchase five more Endure Element scrolls, some wine and water. "I will be back in three hours."

Jurgen Tuesday March 3rd, 2009 1:31:23 PM
Jurgen doesn't think about Aeryon and Murdock yet. His eyes scan for Xenia, fruitlessly. His worries about how she'll react to the drow. Instead of waiting to find out, he speaks out. "Xenia, would you join me please?" He looks out, hoping that she would show herself. If she does, he'll lean close and whipser to her. "We don't ask that you befriend them if you don't want to... But can you give them an opportunity to prove that they are not the drow you've dealt with in the past?"
When Angus leaves, Jurgen asks the sorcerer to come back with two of the same scrolls for himself. Otherwise, Peerimus has asked the important question of the Bloodpack and if there were answers, he would have more questions later.
Xenia (AC28, HP86/86) Tuesday March 3rd, 2009 3:49:08 PM
Cloaked still in invisible magic, the dark rogue skirts the periphery of the group, letting the weasel squeak and protest as all leave it behind. Chatty. That would be a good word for these Drow. And the Chaos Guys seem pretty easy with them. Even Angus.
"Buy me three or four of them too, Angus," Xenia whispers through the magic as she flits from shadow to shadow, winding up behind Jurgen.
"Vendui'!" Suddenly she calls out the greeting in her book-learned Undercommon. "Jal khaless zhah weala. Jal folggash zhah ulnen. Usstan zhaun dos. Usstan zhaun dosst i'dollen. Usstan zhaun alur taga khal folt 'zil dos."

Murdock sits quietly, not quite brooding, but keeping his silence around him like a cloak while watching the others get comfortable around the sandy area.
Aeryon is as outgoing as any drow anyone has encountered, and responds to all of the questions with good humor.
"Yes, we remember many of you, and just like the Bloodpack, we understand how quickly the leading line up can change. We just have to be careful about new people arriving here you understand. With the Bloodpack gone, it is only Murdock and myself who live in this large dome, and we're the only ones to protect the place. Soon, Trellus and the others hope to encourage others of the Sargrass to join us here at OddHolme and have a thriving community. Yet for now, there is only us... two adventurers who are tired of adventure and wanting a place to settle down."
To Rash. "Well that's why the Manfri were'nt able to warn us you were coming. Certainly good to know. As for the Bloodpack..." he looks over at Murdock who gives a small shrug, "they went through the Portal a couple of hours ago. Tishe' told us that they can only stay through the Portal for a day, and so they should be back before sun-down."

Niether drow seems to want anything from Angus or Hook City and the sorcerer prepares to 'port out.

"It's hardly likely we're going to ambush you, Children of Chaos", he admonishes, "and quite rude to keep a member of your group skulking about our home." Murdock's brows furrow in suspicion, but niether drow gives any demands. Jurgen's suggestion to Xenia also falls on ears that do not hear.

The Dire bear Peerimus licks his nose and nods as they Aeryon speaks of the portal and Trellus. They knew more, but the druid was not planning on prying. He could certainly wait a few hours or so for the Bloodpack to return. If they became overdue, than he would move on that conversation. Peerimus nods again, "I believe you are right on that Trellus and I should speak further on that." [Sence Motive 24]
Then, all Shades breaks loose....
Peerimus catches it all or nearly all of it, the magic of the ring is beyond him, but the shouts are plenty enough. The Manfri's magic protect and likely created this place. The two lone drow sentries likely had plenty of firepower backing them up here. Peerimus looks over his shoulder at Xenia. Had he made a mistake and how far would he need travel to correct it now?
Peerimus calls out in his bear voice "Everyone stay calm." Peerimus moves to his four feet and shifts to allow Murdock and Aeryon line of sight to Xenia. "Xenia, apologize and I would suggest being sincere."
Perimus then speaks louder directing himself to the the ranger and wizard. "Aeryon, There is no treachery afoot here, but only an unwise spewing of ignorance. We brought her as she has first hand knowledge of the undead from another part of the Wold. This evil spreads far and wide and her counsil on such matters I felt would be of the greater good. So I ask you good men of OddHolme to curb your anger." Peerimus feels as if he should say more, but sometimes the better part of talking was in not doing so and so he does. [Diplomacy 31]

"No one will die here today!" Shouts Firn'gaer. "Put your weapons away! Xenia! Aeryon! Murdock! We are not here to harm you! We have spoken the truth. We only wish to meet with the Bloodpack. Her prejudice runs deep, but she knows not of what she speaks." He continues to shout. "We will wait outside if that will prevent the violence. As for the insult, I apologize for my companion's actions. There is no need for this to escalate.

Angus will wait to leave as he wants to see the Drow calm down first. Angus mumbles softly "mental note..two bottles of wine are needed."

Caught out, and alone, the dark rogue freezes, her focus drawing down on the two drow up on the arena seats. This is it. This is where they either blast her or they don't.
When the blow fails to come, she straightens from her crouch and makes as if to dust invisible detritus from the lap of her leggings. She turns an assessing eye to those drow up above for signs of further play acting, for the drow's schemes within schemes within schemes. Then she shrugs.
"WHATCHOO TALKIN' 'BOUT, APOLOGY?" The flame headed girl rounds then on Peerimus with hand on hip and finger of accusation in full accusation mode. "You're the one who's ignorant here if you don't know that Drow need to be tested, and a Drow would be the first one to admit that."
"You, on the other hand, Mister Bear, are a moral coward. Yes, I seen what you did, throwing me open like that, and I tell you, I won't be staying with folks who won't back up their own."
"Angus, I'll go back with you to that Hook Place. I'll find my own way back to Floating City, thank you. Good bye."

There is no room for vendettas. We know the Bloodpack, and if they live here and call these drow friend, then that will do. I am not going to allow your actions to jeopardize what needs to be done."
"If you want to leave . . . leave. I cannot afford to watch the enemy and my - so called - friends too. Jurgen Wednesday March 4th, 2009 11:35:33 AM
Jurgen steps back from the group and looks at the whole situation. Here stood the most powerful people he had ever met and they were splintering because of racial tensions. It was... absurd. Jurgen certainly wasn't the most enlightened of the group, but he had never been able to understand judgments of character based on race. Even religion was a stretch for him. That being said, he did understand some of how Xenia must be feeling. His own difficulties between duties to Domi and the necessities of Chaos...
As everyone else had already tried the loud, commanding voice, Jurgen goes another route. While Xenia is preparing to leave, he moves towards her and, in a quiet voice, speaks. "Xenia, we need you. Plain and simple. The Chaos Powers would not have chosen you if we did not."
"That does not bind you to us, though, and you are free to go whenever you desire. But I would ask you to stay, despite your misgivings. There is something bigger than all of us going on here. The Southern Continent is at stake, perhaps the entire Wold. If we are not able to overcome this, than there is a good chance nobody can. And it won't matter where you go or who you are with, if we fall then the Wold falls with us. I ask you to stay with us, if not for our sake, then for those you love and care about." He falls silent, not wanting to risk mentioning the Wynn whom Xenia appears to care so much for. Instead, he looks at her apologetically, knowing full well that there was nothing easy in being a Champion of Chaos.
Xenia (AC28, HP86/86) Wednesday March 4th, 2009 1:13:27 PM
Xenia folds her arms across her less than ample chest. Her face is a dark brooding mask of discontent.
"Yeah?"
Her green eyes smolder, burning with a fury red hot as her hair.
"You know I wanna help you, Jurgen. I do. But, you know, I don't take to folks calling others ignorant or calling for apologies for stuff they don't understand. I just don't."
"You understand, up there. Don'tcha?" The dark girl calls up to the two in the bleachers. "Yeah, I can see that you're no friend of the Drow. But you know, 'em. Don'tcha? I can see that. And you know you had to be tested. Right? Wouldn't you do the same? Or would you just go ahead and attack 'em right out?"

"But, I do what I think's necessary," she turns her eyes to Peerimus and Firn'gaer, "and not just for myself. "If others don't agree, I'm willing to talk 'bout it. But I don't see no need for going and calling people ignorant and stuff."
"And if some feel that they gotta watch out for me for fear of dying, then I got no troubles taking that fear from them by taking myself off somewhere else."

A Trumpet Call (DM SteveK) Wednesday March 4th, 2009 7:21:09 PM
Action and accusations shake the Children of Chaos as the two drow continue to retreat up the steps. Apologies are called for, rejected, ultimatums offered, and tempers heating and flaring all over the chaotic group. It takes about a minute to get things a little quieter. There are still hurt feelings and almost certainly more things that need to be worked out, but one thing is clear... nobody attacked anybody.
That more than anything seems to settle Aeryon and Murdock a little. It should also come as a profound relief to the CoC also that the threats by Aeryon have not had an immediate violent reaction. And Xenia's call for why there was a 'test' seems to mollify at least Aeryon if not the more suspicious Murdock.
The ranger nods jerkily in the bright sunlight. "If you know that tongue, you know enough to be cautious of treachery", he acknowledges from the hieght of the tiers. "Both me and my brother and also Murdock here all fled that society, and that language should be the death sentence of anyone who speaks it." And to this, Murdock gives an emphatic nod of his head. "But", continues Aeryon, "there may be more important things going on in the Sargrass, and I'll let the Bloodpack deal with you."
"And for now, maybe it were best for you all to stay right there and wait for the Bloodpack. For us, we'll leave you here and we'll be in other parts of OddHolme until Trellus gets back."
With that, the two drow move though a small entrance at the top of the tier and leave. When Murdock leaves, the level of light comes back to a normally lit indoor area, and there is again the odd shadow for lurking.
...............................
In the silence following the exit of the two drow, the Children of Chaos hear one pair of small hands clapping. Slowly. Turning around, a small imp-like being in coveralls hovers about a foot off the ground.
"Oh, well done, well done", it says sardonically. "You were almost able to pull complete catastrophy out of everyones plans right there." It looks around in an exagerated manner before putting up one hand and stage-whispering at the assembled heroes. "Confidentially, if you wait around here, all the Bloodpack will be dead and under the control of You-Know-Who. My suggestion? You get your associated feet in gear and follow me to the Portal Chamber. They are really getting pounded!"
All but Angus and Xenia Highlight to display spoiler: { you all met Gimp the Imp, one of the personal messengers of Gargul, on the raising of Kazak and Jurgen after killing Ohzone the Dragon.}
Durgan Wednesday March 4th, 2009 8:12:33 PM
"Never a dull moment with the Children...sometimes I feel like I'm puttin out fires. This is exactly the reason why I drink ale. Helps with keepin cooler heads." Durgan takes a big gulp of the ale he retrieved previously from his bag of holding before continuing. "Don't worry girl. I'm not one to call myself a friend to any drow, but if these are allies of the Bloodpack then they are probably ok. Not too much mischief they can get up to out here by themselves anyway."
He takes another gulp from his mug. A mug with the Stonewall family crest etched into the side of it. "And don't worry about all the shoutin, seems to happen every couple of months around here. Me? I blame it on all this chaos hoohah."
After the imp is finished speaking, Durgan drains the rest of his mug of ale then puts it away in his haversack. then he gets his weapon and shield ready. Holding his axe steady like he expected to be attacked any moment, he grumbles. "I knew this was gonna be a long day today. Just had that feelin. Hey Kazak, if ye are done foolin around with that water, I believe there is some work to do."
Peerimus AC 34 HP 137/137 and Yorrick AC 31 HP 166/166 d20+14=17 ; d20+23=30 ; Wednesday March 4th, 2009 9:59:47 PM
Peerimus merely blinks at Xenia, he had been through nearly all of this the last time he met members of the Crimson Shiled. He was thoroughly unimpressed then and certainly no more so now. As Xenia continues to shout he continues to watch Aeryon and Murdock, pointedly ignoring her. Well there was that, the pair seemed placated at least. [Sense Motive 17] It would be foolish for them to attack of course, but hatred and blind anger has created many fools. Still the druid can not get a firm read on whether they are leaving to gear up for a later attack. In a differnt section of his mind he is still aware of Xenia shouting, talking and the added voices of Angus and Jurgen. More inane chatter as far as he is concerned, but then something grabs his attention as he was taking a few steps towards where Aeryon and Murdock had just departed. Peerimus stops and turns back to regard Xenia and Angus.
Peerimus moves back to Xenia, stopping a comfortable distance away and sitting down, "That is precisely the problem. You cannot simply do whatever you feel like at any occassion when any stray thought or whim strikes you. You were told Murdock and Aeryon were drow and more importantly you were told not to do anything rash and that they are on the side of right. You ignored both points, all of us. You do not trust us, any of us it appears. And if you can not hold trust in us or in our judgement ..." Peerimus stops and takes a breath, obviously mentally rechecking what he was about to say and stopping.
"Trust extends beyond the battlefield and horrors of the deep." Peerimus stops talking, obviously done and after a second or so pause, in case the woman had something immediate to say, which he fully expected her to. The elves seemed to have a much closer tie to the whims of emotion and spontanaity than any other race he had encountered. Peerimus' mind began to wander at the thought, could it be a connection strengthening with thereturn of Father to the waking Wold? The Shift of the Cradle and the elven link to the fey? Or was he only paying more attention now and make correlations where they did not exist?
The clapping breaks his thoughts and he stows the matter for another day. Perhaps a fireside talk with Firngaer or Jurgen one night.
"Gimp." Peerimus says straightforwardly as he moves quickly toward the creature, "lead the way quickly and tell us what is going on right now with them and what has lead them to their current situation. Yorrick moves quickly too, hairs bristling as he feeds on Peerimu's more excited tones and purposeful movements. [Handle animal 30]
the And it works in reverse Angus. If Xenia believes us to be her friends than our word should suffice. Her actions declare differently.
Trace and Rhino Wednesday March 4th, 2009 10:24:57 PM
Trace cracks his neck right and left and then lightly kicks Rhino to xenia postion. "You dont worry about being left in the open. Peerimus is the best commander I have had the privlege and discomcort to be a part of. He did not do this to put you in danger on to defuse the situation that you had caused. Even if you do something so crazy as to spit in the face of a king in front of his army and kingdom, I will blindly die beside you fighting for the simple fact of that you too are a child of chaos. In that same thought and peace of mind, do get a friend killed cause you dont know how to keep your cool, k? We have your back no matter what, so having this great bond, power and friendship, dont waste it on hate for a group of people unless they are directly responsible for your troubles.
Trace's train of thought is broken when the imp is clapping. He spits and gets ready for battle, "Well Peerimus, let me know what the marching orders are, I also have our new friend decked out, we might be able to use him to blast a hole to any magic users for the brothers to attack.

Xenia (AC28, HP86/86) Thursday March 5th, 2009 4:27:47 AM
Drow. Real drow. Drow that hate the Drow as much as she did. Xenia longs to follow after them as they leave out the top of the big arena place. Not a bad idea. Especially with a couple of the Chaos Guys not real crazy about having her around now.
"Durgan wasn't really sure 'bout them two either, Peerimus, you know. You forget that? I trust you. They trust you so I trust you," with a sweep of her arm she indicates the other Chaos Guys. But I had a good idea. I don't see what I did was so bad. No one got hurt, right? And now you know even more 'bout them two than you did a'fore. You even know what it was I said to them?"
Then, that little weerdo shows up again.
"Hey, Angus," the dark rogue whispers across the sorcerer's magic, "isn't that the little guy what was showing us 'round when we went to the Land of the Dead after Lang died? I mean, Gimp, right? That was him."
Striding along with the pace of the others as they make their way behind the Gimp Guy, Xenia spares a moment to call across to Peerimus and Firn'gaer. "So, whaddya say? Still want me along?"
Rash Trinka Thursday March 5th, 2009 9:49:33 AM
Rash walks up behind Xenia and says, "Doesn't really matter if they want you along. You are one of the Children of Chaos. The tattoos mark you as one of this company. You will get our loyalty and we expect yours. Peerimus can be frustrating at times at his ...." Rash obviously struggles for a word "Reasonableness? He is a good leader and thinks things through from all sides but..." Rash looks around and lowers her voice to a whisper, "I think he is so caught up in his study of nature that he forgets he is a human being. I suppose it comes from turning himself into a tree every now and then and worshipping dirt."
Rash raises her voice again and says, "Now me, on the other hand, am the exact opposite. Did you think my Mother and Father were actually cruel enough to name me Rash? My father looked up and saw a rash on the midwife's neck and said, 'Hey now there is a nice name for my girl!' No, the members of my old adventuring group stuck me with that nickname years ago. I was forever the first through the door, or swinging my falchion before the negotiations ended, or a hundred other things that saw the leader of our group turn red with frustration. Time has tempered me somewhat but I have the odd relapse here and there.
Now it seems that we have been summoned by the powers to aid in some scheme. Believe it or not, but not often do the powers ask for our mortal aid, so we need to put our petty differences aside and strap it up. It looks like this Bloodpack group is going to need our aid. Nothing like a good scrap to warm the blood and help set aside differences." Rash puts her hand on her sword and strides more quickly forward, her animated shield bobbing along beside her.
She calls out to Gimp, "Can you tell us what the Bloodpack's difficulties are? Should we gear up for battle? Do they need saving from a trap? How long til we arrive?"

Angus looks over at Peerimus and recalls his first contact with the CoC and his immpression as not improved on the potential for aggorance. Angus just hopes it does not rub off on him.

Jurgen Thursday March 5th, 2009 12:57:40 PM
For perhaps the first time in his life, Jurgen finds himself disagreeing with the words of Peerimus. The feeling was an unnerving one. But it would have to be dealt with another time, as the pull of Chaos was dragging the Children harder and harder. Angus' comment about fun almost gives Jurgen pause, but he wonders whether the sorcerer might be speaking some truth. Something else to ponder on at a late date.
Before Gimp turns away, Jurgen throws up an Alter Self, as per usual preparations for combat. And then he follows quickly after the servent of Gargul. Jurgen had no clue as to what was happening to the Bloodpack, but he did know that if Gimp was getting involved the situation was probably drastic. As such, the world would get put on hold. Idly, Jurgen wonders how many people could say such ridiculous things. Such was the life of an adventurer.
Xenia (AC28, HP86/86) Thursday March 5th, 2009 2:33:57 PM
Sea green eyes glance sidelong at the two Chaos Guys who had delivered her tongue lashing. The peek turns into a hard look of decision. Xenia turns her head to Momma Rash, and her only reply is a nod.
Striding in step with the others as they make their way to the Portal Chamber, the red-headed rogue works at her hair, binding it back in a black bandana. A click of her heels and she lifts off the ground. Then, with a scroll in one hand and a wand in the other, she whispers to both rings, and Xenia vanishes from sight.

A Trumpet Call (DM SteveK) Thursday March 5th, 2009 8:25:55 PM
There are frustrations and anger simmering under the surface of the Children of Chaos, but all seem to agree that since they are here for the Bloodpack and the Bloodpack is supposed to be in trouble, then they should all follow Gimp (specially since he has proved in the past to be a somewhat reliable character).
Gimp dusts his hands on his coveralls and smiles with pointed teeth. "Awright! Let's get the party started!" And the imp flies off setting a pace that will allow the dwarves to keep up if they hustle.
All the while, Gimp keeps up the chatter. "Yep them Bloodpack are in big trouble. Them Powers told em to keep the portal open, and they were clearing out all the undead in the area. But then the Dominator himself arrived and brought in more and more undead. Strengthened them too. Yep, right about now they are surrounded and getting beaten on pretty badly."
Zipping back up the tunnel, Gimp passes a few passages and then moves off into a side tunnel. In no time at all, the tunnel ends in another chamber. This chamber is another dome, about 40 feet in diameter. In the center of the dome, a stone slab looking like an alter rests, its sides carved in unusual designs and motifs.
"No time for Portal Tokens this time, I'll open the way, OK? Get in there and follow the sound of the fighting. Oh, hey, don't try any other Portal right now, hear? The Dominator owns the portals and they won't take you where you want to go."
Not waiting to see if they are ready, Gimp sits on the stone slab which immediately begins to glow. THen it pulses and everyone in the chamber (ie all the CoC) are somewhere else.
.........................
Between one blink and the next, the CoC are in another domed chamber, and Gimp is nowhere in sight. This one is made of stone with even more carvings on the walls and alter. There is one way out, and the CoC can hear sounds of fighting!
The corridors may be a little confusing, but the CoC follow the sounds of the fight and find themselves running down a 20 foot wide corridor about 40 feet from another opening that looks like yet another dome. The sounds of battle come from within...
