A Difference of Opinion

DM Kathy
Tuesday March 3rd, 2009 10:58:25 PM

Bidding farewell to your hosts, you begin the descent. Garrett and Rollo can ride their dogs, but those of you with horses will have to lead them for a while over the steep terrain--much as you had to lead them on the way up.

As you go, Zeph mentions the possibility of an ambush. Axara dismisses the notion, but you are nevertheless on your guard.

Thus, you are not exactly surprised when Ka-Inen-Des steps out into your path. In Elven, he sneers, Highlight to display spoiler: {"You go no farther, Outlanders."} It requires no translation to hear the menace in his tone; however, a group of armed Hawkmen step out on either side of your party, just in case you didn't get the message.

[OOC: Map to follow. Essentially, Ka-Inen-Des is about 20 feet in front of you. There are six other Hawkmen, three on each side of your party, about 20 feet from you and about 20 feet from each other.]

Selemar
Tuesday March 3rd, 2009 11:19:24 PM

In Elvish "We seek no fight with you. We have been accepted into your tribe, and it goes against my nature to shed the blood of my kin. Let us pass and none will ever know of this shameful act."

OOC I'm back, and doing my best to calm things. or start things. Whatever :)

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:19 HP:17/17]
Wednesday March 4th, 2009 8:29:32 AM

Garret glances down at the tattoo on his hand and thinks, "Well, so much for clan loyalty."

Axara [AC: 17 HP 24/24]  d20+7=21 ;
Wednesday March 4th, 2009 9:22:15 AM

Axara caresses Miss Mare 's head as the hawkmen threaten. "Oh just great! Once again male testosterone and desire to see who can pee the longest is getting in the way."

Shaking her head in disgust, she asks Selemar to translate "Why would you go against the Chief wishes? Do you believe Father Wind will forgive if you shed your own kind blood? The brazier belongs to the Hawkmen. We are honorary hawkmen so the clan is not losing the brazier. We will bring it back or if we cannot, we will bring a nicer brazier. Please, we are brother and sister now and I will not fight my own brother. "

Axara hopes to bring in some sense into the mind of these porud men.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 = 21

Hmark  d20+12=14 ;
Wednesday March 4th, 2009 12:09:35 PM

Hmark pulls Red from his shoulder. The archer waits.....

Ready action -
Highlight to display spoiler: { first elf to attack gets shot. hit ac14. sigh, make that first elf to attack gets an arrow whistling harmlessly over his shoulder.}

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:18 .. HP:29/29]
Wednesday March 4th, 2009 5:33:15 PM

Feyjarl pulls out his sword and lets it hang idly at his side, horse reins in the other.

"This really isn't necessary, we're leaving anyway so what difference does it make?"

Selemar
Wednesday March 4th, 2009 6:15:30 PM

Lango licks his lips and looks from Selemar to the Hawkmen and back. He's pretty sure the druid had told him not to bite other elves, but it seemed like an exception might have to be made. Strange.

He then returned to wondering what Selemar had been doing when he was away a few days, and why he smelled vaguely like a bear upon his return

Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesLoot3  d20+7=21 ; d6+2=7 ; d6=5 ; d6=3 ; d20+8=22 ;
Wednesday March 4th, 2009 8:16:05 PM

"What good do you hope to accomplish by doing this, Ka-Inen-Des? Do you think your people will approve of such actions?" Zeph says as he gives Feyjarl a look that says "Flank him with me".

When the first arrow is shot, or the first offensive move is made by either side, Zeph will point with his buckler hand behind Ka-Inen-Des and gasp very loudly and exclaim "The other Hawkmen have come to help us!"(bluff=22).

If and when Ka-Inen-Des is distracted (sense motive check?), Zeph will rush him with is Rapier, hoping to get an attack in before his guard goes up. (Since I said I was in front of marching order, he should be but 20feet in front of me)

(hit AC 21. If Ka-Inen Des is flat footed from the bluff, then -dex to AC. Damage =15 if sneak attack applies, or 7 if it does not)

Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesLoot3
Wednesday March 4th, 2009 8:27:03 PM

(OOC: I would also like to note that the bluff statement was in elven... so that Ka-Inen-Des would understand it. Didn't wanna get my combat tactic messed up on a technicality) ;')

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:18 .. HP:29/29]  d20+5=14 ; d20+7=19 ; d20+7=10 ; d20+7=13 ;
Thursday March 5th, 2009 12:13:19 AM

Feyjarl takes Zeph's lead and walks his horse over to a tree (?) on the opposite side of the Hawkmen from Zeph, he's keeping an eye on the Hawkmen all the time.

If it comes down to a battle, Feyjarl will focus on the Hawkman nearest him and keep going at him until he's out of the fight.

he starts off with a Double strike (+5) and from then on, single strikes (+7).

You do your best to talk Ka-Inen-Des and his cronies out of this rash act. Unfortunately, they do not seem to be listening.

Ka-Inen-Des sneers at you, and replies in Elven: Highlight to display spoiler: {"Regardless of what the Chief says, you are not of the People! And you shall not carry word of the People to the Outlanders who wish to destroy us!"}

He signals, and arrows fly at you from all sides.

Two arrows come at Hmark, but only one hits, for 6 damage.

Two more come at Axara, only one hits, for 2 damage.

Two arrows fly at Garrett. Only one of them hits, but it strikes an especially vulnerable spot. Garrett takes 13 damage from a critical hit.

The two arrows aimed at Selemar are terrible shots that miss by a foot at least. The two aimed at Feyjarl likewise miss.

Rollo gets hit by one of his two shots, for 8 damage.

Ka-Inen-Des himself fires at Zeph, but both shots miss.

Hmark fires a warning shot in response, and Zeph cries out that reinforcements are on the way. Ka-Inen-Des tries not to be taken in, but can't resist taking a quick peek [he is flat-footed to Zeph].

Combat Map

Axara [AC: 17 HP 22/24]
Thursday March 5th, 2009 9:01:28 AM

As the arrow buries itself in her flesh, the sorceress screams her anger "STOP FIGHTING BROTHERS "

As the men seem more interested in killing each other than talking, she decides to go back to the clan, hoping to stop the madness. ((How far is the aerie? If it is too far that it would not make sense to run back, she will move away from the fight, refusing to fight)).

Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesLoot3
Thursday March 5th, 2009 10:37:58 AM

Zeph does just what was previously stated in the last post after he did the Bluff check. The only difference now is that Zeph chooses to use his knowledge of battle to take away from his accuracy, knowing that Ka-Inen-Des is off guard, and adds to his defensive posture (Combat Expertise. -2 to Hit, +2 to AC) Then he moves to square G-12 before Ka-Inen-Des can get his guard up and stabs him with his Rapier, full of fury.

Move Action: Move to square G-12 and draw Rapier at same time (if it was not previously drawn)
Standard Action: Attack Ka-Inen-Des, Hit AC19, -Dex to opponent's AC. Damage =7+3+5=15 total. (Used previous rolls)

Free Action: Zeph shouts "Axara! He just said that he will not let us leave here alive! I thought you didn't want to be useless!? SO FIGHT!" Zeph shouts in frustration.

Free Action: Activate Combat Expertise. -2to hit for this turn, +2to AC. (That is, if Combat Expertise is a free action, which im pretty sure it is. But if its not, then disregard this)

Rollo[AC:21 HP:28/37]  d20+7=8 ; d20+1=20 ; d8+1=7 ;
Thursday March 5th, 2009 11:12:18 AM

(ooc: Weird...my post didn't go up yesterday. oh well)

Rollo glares at the hawkman who shot him." You have made a poor choice. May the might of Eberyon strike you down" Rollo casts [b]Spiritual Weapon

A glowing gnomish hook hammer appears next to the hawkman but the archer is too quick and evades the attack, but it won't be for long.

(to hit: 8 Damage:7 - additional d20 was me forgetting to change the dice to a d8, either way I think I missed.)

Hmark(ac18, 18/24 hp_  d20+10=25 ; d8+2=3 ; d20+10=29 ; d8+2=7 ;
Thursday March 5th, 2009 1:54:16 PM

In physical pain from the arrow wound, and embarassed by his previous shot, Hmark spits a laugh.
"Stop fighting?!? Don't you know when you've been ambushed?"

The archer takes a five foot step back [to H3]and quickly fires two arrows at the elf trying to stay behind a tree [D1].
They are much more accurate.
[hit ac 25 for 3 hp
hit ac 29 for 7 hp]

[Rapid Shot and Point Blank Shot feats in effect]

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:19 HP:4/17]  d20+7=14 ; d20+7=9 ; d4+1=3 ;
Thursday March 5th, 2009 6:02:07 PM

The arrow strike deep into Garret's shoulder, just under the collarbone. Blood spurts above his head and he gives out an extremely loud scream, louder than you could ever imagine coming from a small person. He turns and yells again, running faster than he should be able to, towards the archer who he thinks hit him. His quarterstaff swings wildly as his blood spurts onto the archer.

Intending to attack the one directly to the left (orange), but if that's not possible for a charge, he'll go for light blue in the upper right.
Charge attack, flurry of blows, and stunning fist. Flurry of blows results in a second attack, but stunning fist only applies to attack #1.
First attack: 14 :(
If by some miracle, the 14 hits, it's 3 damage, he has to make a fort save DC14 or he's stunned for a round.
Ac reduced by 2 until next turn.

Axara calls for an end to the fight, then drifts back out of the way. [OOC: You have walked for about an hour since leaving the aerie's animal pens. And that was downhill.]

Zeph takes advantage of Ka-Inen-Des's distraction and slips his rapier between the Hawkman's ribs. The man gasps, clearly badly wounded. [OOC: using Combat Expertise isn't any kind of action; you just declare that you're doing it as part of your attack action.]

Rollo calls upon Ebyron to create a glowing hook hammer made of pure force. Unfortunately, it misses its target, but it remains in place.

Hmark snaps two quick shots at one of the Hawkmen, both of which hit. The man grunts in pain, but stays on his feet.

Garrett moves to the orange Hawkman and attacks, but his attack misses. [OOC: Flurry is a full attack, so you can't do it on a turn in which you move. Also, you are riding your dog, so you have a movement of 40.]

[OOC to all: It's pretty subtle so some of you may have missed it, but each bad guy has a different-colored line around it. The three on the left are pink, orange, and yellow; the three on the right are green, red, and blue.]

Ka-Inen-Des shifts back and fires two more shots at Zeph. Zeph is fighting cautiously, however, and the arrows cannot find an opening. [Curses! I'd have hit you if you hadn't been expertise-ing.]

The pink Hawkman fires two shots at Rollo. Both miss.

The orange Hawkman shifts back and fires twice at Garrett. Both of those miss as well.

The yellow Hawkman returns fire at Hmark, but his shots go wide.

The blue Hawkman, either not recognizing or not caring about Axara's attempted non-combatant status, fires two arrows in her direction. The first one misses; the second scores a shallow but painful wound on one arm [2 points damage].

The red Hawkman fires twice at Selemar, hitting once for 3 damage.

The green Hawkman fires twice at Feyjarl, but misses twice.

Buhl  d20+6=21 ; 4d6+18=37 ;
Friday March 6th, 2009 2:16:40 AM

Shouting angrily as he moves up to the (blue) Hawkman.
Me see you sneak after friends. Me have feeling you try doing evil to dem. Now you die!

With a wild look on his face, the Minotaur, towering over the hawkman, in full battle dress and with spittle flying from the corners of his mouth hefts his rather large great axe over his head and with muscles rippling, he brings it screaming down onto the man,

(used power attack, subtracting 4 from the normal attack, adding 8 to the damage)
Hit ac 21
Damage 37

Turning to look at Ka-Inen-Des, Buhl says loud enough for him to hear
Today you meet Gargul and may he drown you in the lakes of fire for eternity.
and then motioning to all the other hawkmen in attendance, he continues
And so will you.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 20/24]
Friday March 6th, 2009 9:02:33 AM

Axara lets another scream go as another arrow hits her "Pretty soon, I will look like a pin cushion"

She moves away uphill, either 65 or 105 feet depending if the hawkmen have short or long bow (basically out of range) while telling to the other group members in common"You got to see it from their point of view. It is an insular, closed and proud society. We show up out of nowhere, do not speak their language, fail their test and take away one of the clan treasure. No wonder some are a little upset."

Then she sees the minotaur attack with the devastative effect of such a creature. She sits down in dismay and disgust. "Here we go again with testosterone rushing through their veins and leading to the useless loss of lives."

Hmark dodges an arrow, and fires back two more at the yellow-tattoed Hawkman.

[atk 1 misses (ac12)
atk 2 hits ac17 for 9 hp damage]

"A little upset?" he calls back mockingly. "Gee, I'm glad we didn't make 'em really mad. They might've tried to kill us or something...oh wait..."

Rollo[AC:21 HP:28/37]  d20+7=16 ; d8+1=9 ;
Friday March 6th, 2009 12:01:22 PM

Rollo notices the others are still a bit stunned by the ambush, his moral lifts as he his the roar of the minotaur's return.

Turning his attention to the hawkman to the leaders right (Green).

"You! This is completely rediculous! Who taught you how to fight? Stay right there! Don't you know that when ambushing in after the feast of Merryweather you need...." Rollo casts Hold Person on the Green hawkman as the spiritual weapon continues it's assault on the Pink Hawkman.

[Spiritual Weapon attacks Pink Hawkman (to hit: 16; Damage: 9 points (sweet))]

[Green Hawkman must make a DC:15 will save, or be held]

Friday March 6th, 2009 4:34:03 PM

(OOC: Three questions: 1,Will there be an updated map? 2, do they receive a -4 to AC from holding a ranged weapon on melee combat? Or do they have some sort of feat that prevents that? 3, Is Feyjarl here b/c we sure can use him in this battle)

Zeph follows Ka-Inen-Des, pushing him back. (5-foot hop I presume?)

Zeph tries to feint in combat to trick him into defending the wrong side of his body, but fails miserably (Bluff=9, nat 1, unless he too rolls a nat1 on sense motive.)
Then Zeph tries to attack Ka-Inen-Des again with his rapier (to hit=13, which probably misses, but I rolled damage nonetheless=4)

Free action: 5-foot hop
Move-equivilant: Feint
Standard : Single attack
Note: Combat Expertise still active. -2 to hit, +2 to AC

Zeph is visibly getting frustrated with Axara's actions, "Abandon your friends when they are being killed? Just because they disagree with their chief does not give them the right to murder! This is self-defense!" Zeph shouts in her direction.

Suddenly, Buhl comes roaring into the battle. With one mighty swing, he splits one of the Hawkmen from neck to groin. The man crumples without a word.

Garrett clouts his Hawkman soundly, but the man shakes off the stunning effect [Fort save 15].

Hmark fires more arrows at his target, hitting once more.

Rollo's spiritual weapon continues its work, but unfortunately misses again. Meanwhile, the gnome casts another spell. It seems to have no effect [Will save 20].

Zeph continues to fence with Ka-Inen-Des, although he misses this time.

[To answer your questions, we're still working on the logistics of getting the map updated regularly. There is no AC penalty associated with using a ranged weapon that I'm aware of; if you can point me to the pertinent part of the PHB I'd appreciate it.]

The yellow Hawkman, badly wounded, decides he's had enough, and flees the battle.

The pink Hawkman shifts forward (to D12) and fires two shots at Rollo. One hits for 7 damage.

With nowhere to retreat, the orange Hawkman drops his bow and draws his sword. He swings at Garrett, but misses.

The green Hawkman shifts forward (to K11) and fires twice at Feyjarl. One hits for 7 damage.

The red Hawkman shifts forward (to M7) and fires twice at Selemar, but both shots miss.

Ka-Inen-Des shifts back (to J13) and fires twice at Zeph, missing both times.

Feyjarl moves over to the red Hawkman, hitting him twice and doing some damage. [Zak, I don't understand your die rolls. What do you mean by "double attack"? If you attack a target twice, you roll twice, even if both attacks are part of the same action.]

Buhl moves up to the same target and finishes him with one mighty blow.

Selemar places a Flaming Sphere on Ka-Inen-Des. The Hawkman dodges nimbly, avoiding any damage. Lango, finding that the red Hawkman already fell to Buhl instead goes after the green one, biting hard for 5.

Axara remains out of combat, while Garrett does some more damage to his foe [the 15 did not hit].

Seeing that Garrett could use a little help, Rollo rides up and heals him, while Hmark shoots the sword out of his attacker's hand.

Zeph steps up and slashes again at Ka-Inen-Des. With a cry, the Hawkman falls.

Leaderless, the remaining three Hawkmen look at each other for a moment. Then they drop their weapons and surrender. The battle is over.

Buhl takes up a guard stance over the prisoners while the others do their stuff. And keeps an eye out as well in case their are more.

Axara watxhes another hawkman life disappear under the minotaur axe. When Ka-Inen-Des goes down and the rest surrender, she rejoins the group.

At Selemar questions she replies "Stabilize him. If he stays unconcious, it is less likely violence will errupt again."

She looks at the two dead bodies and says "We will bring back their bodies and their weapon to the clan and face the consequences of what has happened today. May be they will punish the attackers for trying to shed clan members blood, may be they will punish us as "honorary" hawkmen have killed true blood hawkmen. If you are worry about the clan reaction, you can keep going down back to Dulcet and I will meet you there if I am still alive. I will get the prisoners, the injured and the dead back to the aerie on my own if needed. No looting of the weapons or anything. These too will go back to the clan."

Garret watches carefully from his mount as the injured hawkman surrenders. He stares at him while Buhl lines him up in the middle of the path. When he is sure the danger is over, he reaches up and yanks the arrow from his shoulder, watching as the injury magically heals. He turns to Rollo and says, "Dear friend, thank you so very much. That was quite a lucky shot that fellow got in on me. I am quite in your debt, for one more shot from the sword, and I might not have made it."

"And Hmark, allow me to shake your hand. I've not seen a shot made like that in quite some time. That was very impressive, you must tell me how you learned to do that."

When Selemar and Axara speak of the rebel leader, Garret agrees, "Indeed, he should stand to answer for his crimes--if this is even a crime of the hawkmen. I wonder if we could send back a runner to get the hawkmen to come to us, rather than dragging a number of bodies back up the mountain. I will be willing to go, I'm feeling much better."

Rollo pulls the arrows from his person as well as he speaks with Garret, "Do not thank me, thank Eberyon it is he who has healed you I am merely his messenger. I do agree our new found brothers are very lucky shots." Rollo pulls the second arrow from between two plates of his armor.

He then retrieves the wand from this saddlebags and gives it a swish flick. (Wand of CLW, two taps for 17hp total.)

He aims it at Hmark. (another charge and Hmark is up 11hp)

Rollo walks over the collective as they debate the hawkmen's fate. "In some cultures it is a crueler thing to let a traitor live. Rollo turns to Ka-Inen-Des."What will become of you if you return?"

If the hawkman does not speak, or is still dead. Rollo votes to bring the survivors back to the arie.

Zeph drags Ka-Inen-Des to the center of the group himself, looking at dents in his buckler where the Elf's arrows hit.

Zeph is in good temperment... until Axara speaks up, then he is visibly frustrated, "First of all, Axara, if we had all taken your opinion in the battle, we would all be dead. So as far as I'm concerned, you have no sayso what happens with our captives. Secondly, it would be foolish for you to return with all these corpses and captives alone, because you would probably have to take a horse or two to carry them on, which will hurt the group overall." Zeph says rather harshly.

Then Zeph almost immediately regrets what he said, feeling sorry for getting so angry, but he can't bring himself to apologize yet.

Then Zeph thinks about what Garrett, Rollo, Selemar, and everyone else has to say. "Well. We do not know what their culture dictates. Some say that if you are defeated then it would be better to die. I don't think thats the situation here because these Hawkmen surrendered.... I vote we bring them back to the Aerie together and explain exactly the truth... or we can send a runner...either way. I also vote we wake up Ka-Inen-Des (if he is unconscious), I have a few questions to ask him on the way."

That being said, Zeph begins to tie some rope around Ka-Inen-Des's hands.

"And as far as their weapons and items go, I think Buhl has the right idea. Lets collect whatever is valuable and ask the Chief if we are allowed to keep the items or if we should give them back to the Aerie." Zeph suggests as he cleans off his Rapier.

Yeah, Spiked Chain would be a good idea. Zeph thinks

As for the bodies -
"Hey, we ain't gotta drag any bodies."
He points to the three prisoners sitting under Buhl's glare.

Buhl shouts orders at the Hawkman, but it soon becomes clear that none of them understands Common. He must communicate with gestures, but he is able to make himself understood. The prisoners readily surrender their weapons and do not attempt to renew hostilities.

Selemar is able to cast his orison and stabilize Ka-Inen-Des. The two Hawkmen felled by Buhl are, alas, dead beyond recall.

Questioning the Hawkmen is challenging; Ka-Inen-Des is unconscious, and none of the three prisoners understands Common. Eventually, you are given to understand that they doubtless face punishment, which will probably be death, banishment, or a period of servitude. You get differing answers on which of these they think is most likely.

You discuss your options, and seem to think it best to return to the aerie. The three prisoners are able to able to carry the unconscious Ka-Inen-Des and the two bodies.

You are not immediately able to locate the Hawkman who fled before the battle ended. Searching will take time, but you can certainly try to find him.

Axara is still very upset by what transpired here, but the rest of you take a more pragmatic view. You are able to awaken Ka-Inen-Des.

"I attacked you because you are returning to the world of the Flatlanders," he tells you. "You will tell them of us, of our ways, and once again the Flatlanders will come to us with their lies and their trickery, and do harm to the People. I would give my life to prevent this."

"Nobody sent me," he says. "I am Ka-Inen-Des, and there are many who heed my words. I do not follow the whims of another."

Zeph gets the feeling that Ka-Inen-Des is speaking the truth.

Rollo keeps an eye out, but sees nothing unusual--and nothing of the Hawkman who fled.

You make your way back to the animal pens, the lowest part of the aerie. A young female Hawkman, obviously tasked with watching the animals, watches in astonishment as your unusual procession approaches. Before you reach her position, she darts closer to the cliff and pulls on a rope. A bell begins ringing, and soon more Hawkmen come scrambling down from the aerie above.

"Ka-Inen, what benefit is there to us telling others about you and your ways?" Feyjarl asks, "it's clear that our trials with your people have taught you very little. The least I would have expected from you and your friends here is a little respect over accepting, and passing your trials to achieve our goal."

Feyjarl leans over on his horse to get closer to Ka, "If you were to enter the settlement that any of us are from asking about a band of pilgrims and an item they held, you'd be met with some skepticism; I grant you that. However, I very much doubt there would be trials to pass in order to get what it was you were after. Yet, even though it was a ery foreign concept for all of us, we did abide by the rules of your people and did our best at all tasks.

"True there are outlanders who would try and simply take that which they thought was their own, but have you not just proven that you yourself would do similar? There will be times in your future where you will have dealings with other Flatlanders; it's an impossibility for that to not happen. I can think of a few who would respond to your ambushing in a much more catagoric fashion. Before you know it the Aerie would be attacked from all sides and there would be MUCH bloodshed."

"Luckily for you however, we, in spite of your futile and stupid acts, are not like that. We made an agreement with you all to abide by your people's rules and enter the trials. We had a very enjoyable time with your people both during the trials and afterwards. We pledged to become your brothers and sisters; which clearly has no meaning in your own life whatsoever."

Feyjarl looked into Ka-Inen's eyes, "It seems that your attitude to outsiders is one of distrust and hatred. That attitiute is usually attributed to people of low intelligence."

"Did any of us do anything while with you to suggest that we were going to cause trouble for your people?"

"You need to start using your head, and stop acting like a belligerent child towards people you don't know. Antagonise the wrong people, and your attitude, and the actions resulting from that attitude, could well be the catalyst to the death of all t he Hawkmen."

Feyjarl sits back up in the seat of his horse, realising that he'd probably said more to Ka-Inen than he had to any of the group since he'd met them. 'Maybe that means something...

"My brothers and sister," he says to you (in Elven, but you have translators nearby). "I am sorry this has happened to you. The People do not attack one another without cause, yet it seems Ka-Inen-Des and his followers were not able to accept this. They will be tried for their crimes, and punished as my father sees fit.

"If you wish, you may stay to see this done. But I know that the gods call you on your own quest, and you may not have time to tarry here. If that is the case, you may depart in peace. This time," he looks angry at this point, "you will have an escort to the Flatlander road to ensure that no others will do you harm."

You quickly reach a consensus that your mission will not wait, so you once again bid farewell to Buhl and Tam-Tirin and turn your horses back down the mountain. This time, however, you are accompanied by a group of silent Hawkman scouts, so good at their task that you catch only occasional glimpses of them.

As you ride, Zeph brings Garrett and Feyjarl up to speed on the group's true mission, a sure sign that he, at least, is beginning to trust the newcomers.

The rest of the day is uneventful. The scouts camp with you for the evening, then start back up the mountain the next morning, while you continue on your way.

You make your way back to the road in fairly good time, only needing to stop and retrace your steps once. As you move into the lower elevations, you can't help but notice how warm it is. You reached the foot of Shadow Mountain in the waning days of spring, and now it is early summer. After several days at cooler mountain altitudes, the muggy warmth of the weather at sea level is difficult to get used to. Arriving at the trade road, with all the dust, noise, and smell of the caravan traffic, does not make the adjustment any easier.

On the other hand, you will stay at an inn tonight, with real beds and the possibility of a bath.

You've been here as long as Rollo, Selemar, and myself, and your opinion has equal weight in the group.... friends?" Zeph says, rather apologetically and honestly.

When the group arrives at an inn, Zeph will sit with the group and talk about the excitement of the past weeks, constantly bringing up the cool tattoos and piercings he received, being generally in high spirits about everything.

"Whew, hot enough for ya?" Garret smiles when they reach the road and starts wandering with his riding dog all around again, talking to anyone he can find. He's asking about how the weather has been where the people have come from and how the crops are standing up in the summer heat.

When the arrive at the inn where they will spend the night, Garret looks around as they enter, mainly looking to see if anyone is taking any special interest in their group. He thanks Zeph for explaining what's going on and shares his tattoo again with Zeph at the table.

Zeph raises an eyebrow at Selemar's comment on old elven. "Well, you see I speak... er (he looks at the tattoo again).. they wouldn't have.. (mumbles something like "I don't know") ... kitten? Must mean Tiger.. or lion... Panther maybe? I only know the dialect that was taught to me by elves in Culverwood." Zeph says squinting at the tattoo really hard.

Research. I definitely have to do research Zeph thinks to himself, obviously falling for the ruse.

On the journey, Zeph takes a moment to apologize to Axara. She acknowledges him. Sort of.

Meanwhile, Garrett takes the opportunity to speak with other travellers on the road. He finds most of the merchants and caravan-masters in too big of a hurry to stop and chat. But the lesser folk--the farmers, drovers, pilgrims, and laborers--are glad to stop for a quick rest and bit of conversation. Garret learns that the weather is typical for the time of year, and that the crops are doing well--so far. He also learns the details of one farmer's feud with his sister-in-law, the number of illnesses another's aunt has had, and a surefire cure for bunions.

Selemar seizes an opportunity to tease Zeph, who falls for the ruse and worries that his tattoo says something girly.

Rollo and Feyjarl keep their thoughts to themselves.

Your night in the inn is uneventful, as is the next. As you travel on the third day, you make a brief stop at a village well, to rest and water the animals. Several shops and houses open onto the well-square, including a tavern. Glancing idly around, you are startled to see a familiar figure emerge from the tavern. It is Kiel, who left the group weeks ago, seeking absolution on his own.

Kiel, in his turn, glances across the square and sees his former companions, watering their horses at the well.

Garret gets up in the morning feeling rather refreshed. As they pack up and prepare to leave, Garret looks closely at his quarterstaff. He says out loud, to no one in particular, "You know, this thing is rather long and cumbersome. I'm not really sure why I keep it. It's actually not much more than just a stick that I'm carrying with me everywhere. Seems rather silly, doesn't it? I think that I've just been carrying it too long. I'll just leave it here so that someone else might find use of it and might have more of a need for it. And I will have less things to carry with me everywhere we go." He sets the quarterstaff down on the ground. He watches as everyone else carefully prepares all their items and gear and loads up their horses while he has nothing left to pack.

On the days traveling, Zeph finishes reading the book that Dulcet gave him on arcane theory. He finally decides to put theory to practice and begins reading runes from an old spellbook he stole off a wandering mage years ago. He begins to write them down in his own spellbook he purchased a long time ago... and to his surprise, he manages to get quite a bit of them right. He seems to begin and end every day by casting Read Magic and writing scribbles in his black leather-bound book.

Zeph ends his long studies in the culmination of summoning his familiar. He does the ritual on a quiet night. Anyone who wishes can witness the event, as Zeph trusts all his companions very much. The summoning takes 24hours, so Zeph waits until the group finds a comfortable inn. The produced result is a Tiny Viper, a black snake with an odd red design on its back that looks like a double-helix. The viper has silvery eyes and an odd silver tongue. Upon summoning, Zeph is seemingly better at telling lies and keeping aware of his surroundings. He whispers to the thing every now in the upcoming days and then as it slithers in and out his clothing. The viper usually stays on his person or in his backpack, catching rats every now and then on its own.

(OOC: Took level in Wizard. I start off with 3spells+int modifier right to equal 7 in my spellbook, right? Along with every level 0 cantrips. 1st level Spells in spellbook are: Shield, protection from evil, enlarge person, expeditious retreat, obscuring mist, grease, charm person. Spells memorized for this day are: 1st: Enlarge person, charm person. 0: Read magic, detect magic, message.)

Zeph is quite taken aback to see Kiel emerging from the tavern. He raises his hand and waves at the Ranger, "Hello there. How are ya?" Zeph says, not really knowing what to say considering the odd circumstances of his departure.

Now he is a person who can perhaps get Axara out of her funk. Zeph thinks to himself with a smile.

The next chance Zeph gets (possibly when we get back to Jarlwolf, is the Catacombs required for this?), he will purchase scrolls of Disguise Self, Alarm, Ray of Enfeeblement, Reduce Person, Cause Fear, Summon Monster I, Hold Portal, and True Strike. (Should cost 25gp each, resulting in 200gp of scrolls to copy into his book.) He will then spend the mundane days of traveling by casting Read Magic and attempting to copy the spells down into his book.

(rolled arcane spell failure checks for casting read magic so many times. 10% failure. everything is fine)

Axara [AC: 17 HP 20/24]
Tuesday March 17th, 2009 10:36:46 AM

As the group enters the inn, Axara requests a room and eats dinner in her room alone.

The following morning, she comes down wearing her arcanist robe, her face covered by the hood. She does scare a couple of young kids as they fear the fact that they cannot see her face.

She waits for the group outside, petting Miss Mare. She rides in silence toward Cinnamon Valley. She feels hot under the early summer sun, so she slowly pull down her hood to get some fresh.

Her face, as pretty as she is, is expressionless and some would say quite cold or even unfriendly looking.

She waters her horse at the next village, drinking some water from her waterskin. When Kiel appears, her expressinless face does not change. She looks at him for a second and goes back at petting Miss Mare.

Tuesday March 17th, 2009 11:53:32 AM

Rollo continues on with his normal routine, finding the trip home pleasant as it is not raining, and the most recent danger lies behind.

Rollo has been in deep thought most the return journey, his mind processing the events that have transpired, a deep familiar calling in the back of his mind seems anxious for his council.

As the group awakens at their various paces, Rollo sets out for his morning sabbatical, leaving food and drink for the unseen of the forest. Rollo notices a comforting oddity, as the canopy grows denser the light seems to get brighter. A sight that could only mean one thing, he has stumbled into the realm of the fey.

It was true, Rollo looked around he could see the familiar flora and fauna only found in the enchanted forests of the fey. He wandered through the maze of colorful plants breathing in the sweet air, until coming upon a small tree growing at an 90 degree angle, upon it a banquet of food and drink .

Rollo could hear the voice of Eberyon in the back of his mind.

You have served me faithfully, and have kept my children fed, you shall never go hungry.

Rollo knelt before the table, and gave his thanks to his patron, and ate till he was ready to burst. Each bite nourishing his soul, his spirit felt as if it had put on some weight that day.

Once, finished he returned to the village, not sad as the trees lost their glow as he knew he was doing what he was meant to do.

In the square, Rollo watch Garret give a fond farewell to his walking stick. Refreshing to see someone properly honor a parting companion. Not a moment after the words 'parting companion' drifted through his mind did he see Kiel grooming his horse.

When the snake appears, Garret watches it slide across the ground with interest. When it approaches Zeph, he almost grabs for it, but instead sees Zeph talk to it. He is quite interested.

Kiel
Tuesday March 17th, 2009 4:23:17 PM

Walking out of the tavern towards Phoenix, Kiel stops to soak up a little of the sun's rays. (and to let his eyes adjust to the light)

Just about the time he gets to his trusted companion, he looks over at the communal watering trough and spies those he came looking for. Stopping in mid motion he scans the people, noticing his fellow companions, and of course, the one he was really looking for.
With a purposeful walk, Kiel heads straight over towards the others, passing by Zeph and Rollo, Feyjarl and Hmark and the hafling as well. He walks right up to Axara.
Then, with a calm and caring hand he reaches up and gently removes her hood. Exposing her face to the sunlight, and to his look. A look of concern, a look of caring. Of ...... Love.
Hiding yourself is like a flower moving under the shade of a willow tree. It wont grow to its full potential plus noone sees its beauty.

Then, after a few seconds, he continues
Please forgive me for leaving. I needed to to protect you, and the others. I needed to cleanse my soul before I could continue with our journey and leaving the way I did, without telling you, or the others, was my way of keeping you safe so the hunters would come after me, and not you.

Reaching down, Kiel takes Axara's left hand and covers it with both of his, bringing it to his heart.
I meant what I said when I left. You were all I have thought about since I have been gone. You is who I wanted to return to once my atonement was completed. It is your forgiveness I beg for.
Looking Axara right into her eyes he finishes with
I will always............

Axara [AC: 17 HP 20/24]
Tuesday March 17th, 2009 5:11:34 PM

Axara moves her hand from Kiel's and looks at the man deep in the eyes. The face is still stern and anger starts to show. Finally she opens her mouth and her companions hear her voice for the first time since the hawkmen fight.
"Who do you think I am Kiel? Some stupid farm girl that is impressed by the mighty fighter and will wait for him at the farm, raising his kids as he disappears? Waiting for him and treating him like a kid when he finally shows up to sire another child? Do you believe it is who I am?"

Angered she moves away and start pacing. "You have no idea the kind of turmoil I have been going through trying to make sense of your last words. Yes I was naive enough to think that there might be true. Yes, deeep inside I must be a stupid romantic, even after all life has done to me. But enough. I have changed. I have seen the light. I am tired of being a tool for men to use, abuse and discart. You had your chance Kiel but you left. You did not trust me enough to share any of whatever was burning you. I have been thinking a lot since the hawkmen fight and I have realized a lot of think. We are together not because we are friends or we like each other. We are together because we have a job to do. Nothing more. I do not have to like you or any of the other ones. I am here to do the job and that is. IF you want to have a farm girl melt for your antic Kiel, go do them to a farm girl. I am sure I can fight you one of my sisters who will be willing to drink your snake oil.

She puts back her hood on and covers her face, even if it is quite on and gets into the saddle of Miss Mare, waiting for the group to go back to Cinnamon Valley.

Then when Axara says her words... Zeph's eyes open wide again. This time, he frowns, and looks at Kiel, then back to Axara as she walks away.

After Axara leaves Kiel, Zeph will walk up to him and whisper, "Um... I learned a spell that could get you on her good side if you wanna give it a go. It's called Charm Person... I have it memorized if err - ye know- .... just give me the signal." Zeph says, but backs off if Kiel doesn't give him a friendly look at the idea.

I consider these guys to be my friends. Speak for yourself, chick..... Feather fall... that would be a good spell to get. Zeph thinks to himself as he nods at Sliver, his new tiny viper who resides in Zeph's collar.

Zeph whispers something to Sliver sounding like, "Sorry you had to see that so soon on the job, mate."

Some of you have discovered new abilities as you travel. Zeph finds that he has mastered a few minor secrets of the arcane. Rollo is able to commune with Ebyron. And Garrett finds that he no longer needs his staff.

Kiel's return is eventful, to say the least. It would seem that his love for Axara is unrequited. Or perhaps there is something else festering in the heart of the lovely sorceress.

Romantic complications notwithstanding, it seems that Kiel is ready to re-join the group. You can catch him up on your activities as you travel. In his turn, he tells you something of what he has undergone since he left the party.

You travel a bit longer on the trade road, then take the branch leading to Cinnamon Valley. Soon you will be home.

Wednesday March 18th, 2009 1:23:35 AM

On the journey, Zeph will spark up conversation with any of his teammates, eager to talk about the possible uses for his spells he acquired in his book. He will talk about the combat uses for Shield, even though it only lasts a minute, that it is actually a long time in combat. He will talk about how Obscuring Mist can hide him from sight untill he is within 5feet of the enemy, when its too late. He will also talk about the possible fun he could have with Grease.

First, he leans over to Feyjarl and whispers, "Think I should offer Kiel a modified version of the Enlarge Person spell? Sometimes it takes a little more than poetry, if you know what I mean." Zeph says with a smile.

If Garret is interested in Sliver, then Zeph will introduce the two. "His name is Slither. I summoned him to watch our backs, advise me on spells, and to be a general problem solver. You can hold him if you like." Zeph says jovially. If Garret wishes, then Zeph will grasp his hand, much like they are shaking hands, and Slither will travel over to the Halfling and begin perusing the contents (or lack thereof) of Garret's backpack.

But, when Zeph turns to Kiel, he will ask questions carefully, as to not arouse any anger that is common to a man with a broken heart, "Um. So hows it been? What did you mean by hunters?"

Lastly, Zeph will cast Enlarge Person on Rollo when he is not looking to... test out his abilities. DC is 15 if you wish to resist it. =)

Axara [AC: 17 HP 20/24]
Wednesday March 18th, 2009 9:05:27 AM

Axara travels silently with the group, face still covered with her hood in the midday sun, hunched over her horse. Although no one can see her face, it is clear that she is in a foul mood and she's fuming.

Suddenly she pulls out an eyelash and some arabic gum. She puts the gum and whispers a few words and disappears. Miss Mare seems to be riding alone. " Yes. I finally figured it out. Now they won't be forced to see my face ..... I wonder if I am still invisible if ...... "

Right after she stops talking a rat swarm appears in the distance and Axara is still invisible. The rat swarm stays around for a few seconds then starts moving towards the group. It gets very close to the heroes before disappearing.

Axara, still invisible, giggles and says " oops .... sorry about that ... forgot I cannot control a swarm ... although it is hard to tell if she is really sincere. The swarm did get very close to one Hero: Kiel.

Seems the girl still has that attitude looming over her head. And here I thought time would make her grow up. Guess I will just have to wait. Thinks Kiel.

Turning to Rollo
No, this isn't a chance encounter. I am back to rejoin the venture.

When Kiel sees everyone mounting up, he does the same, passing a glance at Axara.
Seeing her hood back up, Kiel smiles at her. Genuine, not mischievous.
During the trip he does from time to time turn to look at Axara, and every time he gives her a smile. At least for the first couple of hours to make her even more mad. Then turns and concentrates on the road ahead, without a rearward glance, keeping now, a mischievous grin on his face when not looking at or towards her direction. Going to a normal concentrated look when he is forced to.

Hunters you ask Zeph. Yes, you see, after running through Sebastian with my sword it seems I or We were turned in to the constabulary and in turn, a bounty was put on our heads, mainly me, but all of us were sought. I had a dream that when these hunters caught up with us it would be bloody and I had enough blood on my hands. So I felt compelled to end this chase. Plus, after a conversation with my parents they convinced me leaving with as little fan faire was best for everyone around. It made you all push on a little faster, instead of turning back to face whatever needed to be faced with me, putting our mission in even more jeopardy. The priests of Pantheon stepped in on my behalf, convincing the constabulary to allow them to dish out the justice in exchange for the hunter's being recalled. And so it was so. So here I am, indebted to the priests, my soul cleansed and best of all, you, (waving to the group) are safe from everything regarding the Sebastian incident. Like Axara, I ask you all for forgiveness.

Then as part of his being on alert, he notices 1) there is no rider on Axara's horse and 2) there is Axara's voice coming from near her riderless horse. Stopping, he turns Phoenix in her direction, looking for signs of Axara when he hears her exclaim about not being able to control a swarm, whereupon he turns just in time to see a pack of rats moving towards the group, mainly him and his steed.
Phoenix obviously annoyed with the approaching vermin begins huffing and snorting, apparently not liking the creatures and the amount of them zeroing in on his spot. He begins whinnying, then doing some light bucking until they disappear. Kiel deftly able to control him and without falling off.
Turning back towards Axara's horse he can hear her giggling and with a shake of his head Kiel remarks
Only thing to not change Axara is you growing up. Maybe you should work on that more than playing games.

Kiel, after making sure Phoenix is calmed, turns his mount and resumes their travel down the road.
Feyjarl, I figured you would have taught the spoiled brat some manners by now. You are slacking my friend. Kiel exclaims with a grin on his face, facing away from Axara so she can't see his expression.

When Garret asks about Sliver, Zeph says, "Oh, did I say Slither? I meant Sliver. I think its a play on the fact that he has a silver tongue and eyes- at least that's what he said... or felt.. I'm not sure how I found out his name... or how I chose him. Maybe he chose me. I think we chose each other in the end. Maybe he is a part of my personality I didn't knew existed before. I do know this though: when he feels something, I know what he's feeling, even if he can't say it. I think you would get something like a Mongoose if you tried it, quick, small, yet effective. What you think? Basically it takes a lot of studying of magic, and trial and error. I thought Axara had a familiar as well." Zeph says.

(OOC: sorry for double post. But yeah, we add up all the spoils and divide it amongst everyone who participates. I keep the sheet updated next to my name. If you would like to claim an item, then the cost of that item is deducted from your share of the loot. Basically, since everything is sold back at 90%, purchasing an item from the group's loot saves you 10% it would cost to get it from the store. You can also owe the group a debt, which can be paid back by receiving less loot the next time. I got it all figured out, no worries. =)

Zeph looks over the gems in the bag that Hmark is holding. (appraise =16) "Hmmm. Let me ask Sliver." The viper looks over the gems and whispers something with his forked tongue at Zeph.

After a few more days' travel, the familiar sights and sounds of Cinnamon Valley greet your eyes. The days are still long and warm, and everywhere you look you see folk enjoying the weather and smiling over the crops. The road is becoming dusty, but not too bad, and anyway there are plenty of taverns where a thirsty traveller can find something cool and foamy.

Your journey is uneventful, and eventually you find yourselves back in Jarlwolf. There is an entrance to the famed Catacombs here, and possibly, more information on how to destroy the Codex.

Thursday March 19th, 2009 2:45:25 AM

"Welcome back Kiel. Glad you were unharmed, and thanks for the risks you took. We've missed you. Perhaps not as much as you missed us, or at least one of us.."

Selmar spends some time walking was a wolf, to see things from lango's perspective. He mostly learns that humans seem even taller when on four legs, and halfling smell vaguely like cinnamon. He had no idea.

When we're back in Jarlwolf, Selemar looks towards his sister's home for a minute, before turning to the group. "I guess we need to see Dulcet first, no? Then perhaps a short time at home?"

Garret talks more with Zeph about Silver, clearly interested. "Perhaps one day I should try and learn more about these magics. I think it would be nice to have such a true companion."

When they arrive back i n the valley he says to the group, "Indeed, after all we went through to get this thing, we should quickly take it back where it goes--or at least where we need to take it now."

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30]
Thursday March 19th, 2009 9:26:44 AM

After 5 minutes, Axara reappear on top of Miss Mare that was fun .... Especially the rats ... Yeah this spell can be quite useful .

She spends the rest of the return trip riding in silence, limiting her interaction with the group to a minimum.
When the group stops to rest, she can be seem starring into nothingness although it is hard to tell where she is starring as she is always hooded. A very alert person would have noticed that the few times she is actually looking at a group member; a disproportionate number of times, that group member happen to be Kiel.

She is also seen sitting and generating energy balls in her hands as if she trying to generate higher level of magic power.
If Garrett in his innocent interest in everything in life asks her what she is doing, she will sadly give a one word answer to the nice halfling, such as "magic" or "work".

When they rest for the night near a water stream, she will saying time for my bath quite loud, often the longest sentence she said all day. Interestingly enough, she seems to say that as she walks by Kiel.

Any adventurer interested in following her would see her turn invisible before seeing all her clothing appear on the ground. Unfortunately for her, she would often miscalculate how long she could stay invisible which made for interesting get out of the water situation.

During the last night watch, Axara and Kiel take their usual shift in silence. Then Axara approaches Kiel, pulls down her hood, looks at him right in the eyes, put his hands in hers and starts whispering in a calm and collected voice. Kiel, you left claiming you always loved me and you came back claiming the same. Yet I called you back when you left and you did not stop. You never gave me a chance to look in your eyes to see if you were saying the truth. Then you come back and using lousy poetry you expect me to fall at your feet. Sorry but this is not who I am.

She pauses and takes a deep breath.

You said I should not playing games and instead grow up. You could not be further than the truth. I have been forced to grow up way too early. May be one day you will know how and why. But not now.

You deserve a good woman, someone who can see you for your greatness and who you are rather than an angry damaged good inside like me. Yes I know I can look quite attractive but I am broken inside and I am trying to heal but it has not been working very well since I joined this group.

She stops and looks at him so deep in his yes, she could be drowning.

I like you a lot Kiel, I really like you. Trust me on that. If I did not care about you, I would have taken you in my tent a long time ago only to discard you in the morning. I REALLY like you so I do not want to hurt you. May be you can give me the time to heal and you can help me. OR may be you realize that I am not the prettiest nor smartest fish in the ocean and that a lot of women in the realm would love to have you as a mate. You are great man Kiel, who deserve WAY MORE than a broken sorceress.

Her emotions completely exposed in an uncharacteristic display and her eyes full of tears, she lets go of Kiel's hands and starts moving away, putting back the hood on her head. If Kiel wants to talk to her, she will just shake her head and put a finger across her mouth to signal him not to talk.

Once near Jarwolf, she will camp outside town until it is time to go see Dulcet. She shows no desire to go visit her family.

Zeph AC19 HP37/37 HeroesLoot3
Thursday March 19th, 2009 10:56:48 AM

If Zeph notices an odd look on Kiel's face at any time during the trip, he will say: "Don't forget... Charm Person... just give me the signal." Zeph says with a wink.

When Zeph notices Axara's new spell, Zeph will say, "Invisibility eh? You can cast that on other people correct? Perhaps next fight we get in, you could throw one my way as I go to attack someone- it could make stabbing an enemy in the back much easier." Zeph suggests, always thinking of ways to improve the group's tactical advantage in combat.

When the Heroes arrive in Jarlwolf, Zeph is delighted at the sight of his hometown. He breathes in deep, and says, "I agree we should go straight to Dulcet's. Perhaps we can ask for some payment, then I will go sell our spoils, gems included, and divide it amongst us." Zeph says, not really remembering how much Dulcet promised to pay each person.

When the group goes to Dulcet, Zeph will report the happenings along with anyone else who wants to describe the adventure. Zeph will also make a small hint at receiving some monetary rewards... but only for making the next leg of the journey easier (if there is a next leg). He will also ask a merchant how much the gems are worth.

As you return to the Valley, you all have things to talk over, especially Axara and Kiel. Many of you have new spells and abilities to try out as well. Rollo spends some time doing something very mysterious with his backpack.

When you return, you decide to go to Dulcet's immediately. You make your way there, and are instantly escorted inside. Dulcet seems relieved to see you.

"Please, sit down and let me offer you some refreshment," she says. "Did you find it?"

Axara enters the room with the hood of her robe over her but pulls it down when she sees Madam Dulcet. She respectfully bows to the elder witch but says nothing unless directly asked by Madam Dulcet.

"I am sure that Pots or Pretty Boy are dying to describe their heroic actions ..... "

Friday March 20th, 2009 10:41:08 AM

Hmark loses his indifferent attitude immediately upon entering Dulcet's house. He hangs back, as if trying to escape the woman's notice.

"Um, I got it, ma'am," he replies, ducking his head toward her.
"Um, you want it now?"

Zeph raises an eyebrow when Selemar says 'unpleasant'

"Well, I had fun actually... except for that misunderstanding at the end, it was a good experience and we have learned much from it." Zeph says, playing with his new earrings.

"So, Madam Dulcet. We have retrieved two items to destroy the Codex, can it be completed now? What did you find from studying the Book of the Guided Way? And lastly... err, could we receive some of the payment... for supplies?" Zeph says the last part sheepishly, not wanting to offend her.

Zeph will also keep an eye out for anything suspicious. (Spot=26)

Kiel
Friday March 20th, 2009 11:32:51 PM

*sorry for not posting on thursday, something came up and I lost time*

(in reaction to Axara's thursday's post)
When Axara remarks about going to the stream to bathe, she will notice that after she turns invisible, drops her clothes and enters the stream that Kiel arrives. Not to gawk, but to set up a couple of blankets as a barrier to the camp, then, with his back towards her, on the opposite side of the blankets, stands guard to make sure no other peeping tom's decide to catch a peek.

(in reaction to Axara'a thursday's watch post)
When Axara turns to leave, he follows her, and when she puts her finger to her lips he ignores her and continues.
I left the way I did so you wouldn't see the hurt in my heart leaving was causing me. I didn't want to leave but I had to. I couldn't live with myself if something bad had happened to you because of my actions back with sebastian. As for expecting you to fall at my feet, you of all people should know that I never would expect anyone to do that, especially you.
Look, we all aren't perfect and if I wanted some farm or bar wench, I would not have taken up the mantle of adventuring. I admit, I saw you as nothing but a spoiled girl, spent on your looks and how blah blah blah looking you felt yourself to be but as time grew on I started to understand some of how you felt. Of what made you tick. And why, listening to your bits and pieces of stories. Even when I was berating you, I was also beating myself up for being mean to you but I felt at that time had I treated you any different, you wouldnt have started to come out of your shell. You started lowering that wall of yours, and in the process my feelings started changing for you. Yes, you are beautiful, but looks isnt what drives this man. Don't get me wrong, you are very pleasing to the eyes, but that's not what drives my heart. The pain you deal with, the anger you show and dont show, your pouting, all that has melted the ice around my feelings.

So, I dont see a broken sorceress. And hopefully one day neither will you. We all value you for who you are. Annoying at times. (a genuine friendly smiles forms on his face) We all love you, some more than others. (points to himself) And whether you want to hear it or not, each and every one one of us would die for you, as you would do for each of us.

The rest of the trip to Jarlwolf he rides in silence, every once in a while he steals a glance at Axara.
When he notices Zeph's poop eating grin on his face, and him pointing to his spell pouch, Kiel just smiles and shakes his head no.

In madame Dulcet's house, after tending to all the animals as usual, he sits in silence. Having nothing really to say.

Reaction to Kiel's speech
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Axara tries to stop Kiel from talking but does not succeed. His words resonate with her although he cannot see it as she is hidding under the hood of her robe. She is about to turn toward him and give him a hug and may be more when the end of his speech hits her like a storm.

"They loved me? They would die for me? He is delusional. He assumes other have his feelings. I doubt it. They tolerate me because we have a job to do. This was obvious after the hawkmen. Once the codex is, this "group" will probably discard be like a bar wench who has done her duties. This is too bad for Kiel because he will get hurt and that saddens me. But he does not see how broken I am inside. If he only knew ....."

DM Kathy
Monday March 23rd, 2009 12:15:51 AM

Dulcet smiles at Hmark. "Thank you, Hmark," she says. "All things considered, perhaps you should hold onto it for the time being. I'm glad to hear your mission was a success. I have some thoughts on how to proceed, but first I have someone I'd like you to meet."

She steps to a door (not the one you came in), and opens it to usher in a half-elf, who eyes you speculatively. "This is Dathish Ben," she says. "I think he may be of some assistance in your quest."

[Introduction time! Everybody please be sure to describe your character physically. Allen, welcome to the game.]

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30]
Monday March 23rd, 2009 12:22:49 AM

Axara stands in a black rich skill wizard robe and for once, the hood of the robe is not covering her gorgeous face. She is an extremely beautiful woman with pitch black hair and the brightest blue eyes in contrast. She is short for a human but her charisma makes people feel that she is taller than she actually is.

The look on her face is cold and does not change when Dathish Ben is introduced.

"Another one? Why is she bringing another one for this job?"

Selemar
Monday March 23rd, 2009 6:26:56 AM

Selemar is a young looking elf with balck hair and bright silver eyes. He's lightly armored and armed, and moves with an easy grace. A knowledgable observer would notice that his clothes are marked with druidic symbols (and I believe Dathish Ben is knowledgable there)/ He smiles at the half-elf, though the look of welcome is tempered by curiosity.

Next to him is a big wolf, who looks at the half-elf with a mixture of curiosity and friendliness. They're kind of alike that way.

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:20 HP:21/21]
Monday March 23rd, 2009 8:44:09 AM

When Dathish looks across the room, he doesn't see Garret at first glance. It is only when Garret moves that Dathish notices him. He is just about three feet tall and looks rather unclean at the moment. He wears only a pair of pants that end raggedly above his ankles, held up with a rope belt. On the belt are a few small sacks and he wears a small backpack but no shirt. His hair is up in a topknot with the sides of his head shaved. There you can see a number of colorful tattoos that cross nearly to his eyes. He does not say a word, but his eyes are light and bright, looking around the room, taking in everything at once. He does not appear to be armed.

After Dulcet introduces Dathish, Garret moves quickly across the room, holding out his hand in greeting, "Hello, and well met, Mr Ben. I am called Garret. Garret Goodbarrel. I am quite glad to meet you. Are you from around here? Have you traveled much? How far from here have you ever been? We have just seen some wonderful mountains, have you ever traveled there?"

Zeph AC19 HP37/37 HeroesLoot3
Monday March 23rd, 2009 11:17:37 AM

When Dathish is introduced to the group, Zeph looks at the man for a long time as people begin to introduce themselves... or if not, then thats cool too. Zeph sees the horns on his head, and the oddly dyed leathers he wears.

[i]This is an interesting one. He looks extremely strong and fit. He would probably kill me in a fight."[/b] Zeph thinks to himself.

Zeph is 5'10'', with long, wavy, black hair and dark green eyes. His chin is a bit pointed and his features a bit sharp for a human, but his round ears give it away- he's fairly good looking for a human. His face is extremely scruffy as of right now, being fresh from adventure, and forgetting to shave- so a nice even beard of about 1" all around is present. He is lean and slightly muscular. He has a black tunic over a sparkling mithril chainshirt with black pants. He has a finely crafted leather belt, with many places for weapons and many pouches, holding spell components. His gloves are also nice and engraved, and his boots, although worn, must have been nice in their prime. He has a dark cloak with a hood covering his whole ensemble. In his scabbards he has a war mace, a dagger, a fine rapier, a sap, and a longbow on his back. You can also notice a black-leather bound wizards book poking out his backpack.

When Dathish looks in his direction, Zeph will wave and put out his hand to shake, "Names Zeph: company rogue and all-around problem solver. This is my friend, Sliver" Zeph says as the black viper pops its head out to look at Dathish from under his sleeve. The snake flicks its silver tongue in Dathish's wolf's direction.

Dathish "Dash"
Monday March 23rd, 2009 8:27:12 PM

Dathish, a tall masculine man with black hair, stands before you, his body toughened by exposure to the elements, his mussels toned by long hours of running without rest. Dressed in Strangely dyed hides typical to a centaur warrior. Padding up to his side is a gangly wolf with long legs and build, perfect for running, It sniffs the air alertly then spreads its long mouth into a ridiculous smile at the sight of another wolf and starts moveing playfully towards the fellow animal.
Across the well toned Half-elfs arms sprawl the colorful traditional tattoos of oak leaves of a druid of the Circle of the oak, while he bears the wolf and bear claw tattoos on his open chest of a druid of the Templer of the wild, while Along his face are is a forest of oak each tree drawn with articulate care. The colorful forest goes down to just below his neck, growing strongest along the healed tissues of numerous scars, the largest of which, a large moon shaped divot streaks across his right cheek. The simple roots of the forest twine down past his neck and down his shoulders giving him a look of incredible steadfastness.
Dathish begins to clear his throat for a greating but is taken by suprise by Garret's advance, unaccustom to the speed at wich the child-sized man moves. "Hello there little friend pleased to make your acquaitance" but unsure as to what to do in regards to Garrets outsreched arms he looks around uneasly quickly takeing the escape and turning to Zeph.
"Pleased to meet you, Zeph, and you as well, Silver" Dathish Says as he take Zephs hand in a firm handshake.

Hmark
Monday March 23rd, 2009 8:32:42 PM

Hmark frowns, more at Dulcet's words than the appearance of the half-elf.

Shorter than average, long limbed and lanky, at first glance he could pass for a half-elf himself. The large, reddish colored recurved bow the boy always carries doesn't help clear up matters either. But, a second look at his squarish face, tousled brown hair, brown eyes, and round ears betray his pure human blood. Recently, Hmark has taken to wearing a short moustache and goatee, shaving only his jawline, neck, and cheeks.

"Um," he stutters, taking a second glance at Dash, "aren't we done? I mean, we got the bowl thingy. What else is there?"

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30]
Monday March 23rd, 2009 9:12:17 PM

Axara looks at Kiel from the corner of her eyes to see his reaction to the newcomer. She smiles internally when Garrett aproaches him and continues to show no emotions as others interacts with Dash.

"So Pretty Boy wants a new friend while Farm Boy is somehow suspecious. I wonder what Pots will do. Too bad he is not a she, that would have potentially helped Kiel rebound. He is too good for me and deserve better. "

Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42]
Monday March 23rd, 2009 9:36:48 PM

As Rollo is on the look out for looky loos he finds one, a tall half elf who appears to be joining the expedition.

"All these adventurers with scars, you would think they would invest in some armor."

Rollo stands a touch over three feet tall, decked in full plate mail comprised of various pots and pans he is quite a site to see.

"Rollo Nimbus, servant and emmissary of the great Lord Eberyon of the fey, protector of the seen and unseen, Knight of the waning moon, third councilor to the Jeb Nad Accords, High Priest of the minuscule province of Flekalspiel, Third adoptive son of Vundebritches the Third....."

Rollo continues til someone else comes along and interrupts, then turns and smiles to Dulcet, "What are after now?"

DM Kathy
Monday March 23rd, 2009 11:24:07 PM

Dulcet waits while the introductions are complete.

"I belive a few more components will be required," she replies to Hmark. "Some of them are herbs of various kind, which I will undertake to collect myself. You shouldn't be doing all the work, after all."

She moves to a nearby table, where the Book of the Guided Way lies open. "There are references in here," she says, "to poison, and a sting. I thought at first that a monstrous scorpion sting would be the answer, but I am not sure they are large enough for our purposes. Perhaps a wyvern?" she looks over at your group. "I am interested in your thoughts on this."

Dathish "Dash"
Tuesday March 24th, 2009 1:44:36 AM

Dathish thinks over the question for a second and then replies "In my travels across the wold I have often seen and heard of animals of incredible size and strength the Centaurs call them Mermlon, or 'beasts of power' though adventures of the commen tongue often call them 'Dire beasts'. Perhaps a scorpion of such great size might be what the book speaks of."
a few seconds later he muses
"Though perhaps the sting is a metaphor for a weapon of some sort? A poison blade maybe?"

Selemar
Tuesday March 24th, 2009 2:44:17 AM

"Perhaps the uestion is whether we know of any place where scorpions or wyverns might be found?"

Another druid? This bodes well. Even if he's a half human, he should be a little easier to understand than some of them. Looks tough, which shouldn't hurt. Too bad he has a wolf. It would be nice to talk to someone about the benefits of another companion. Poor Lango. This is going to be difficult for him.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30]
Tuesday March 24th, 2009 9:30:25 AM

Axara offers no insight to the conversation and stay silent, her face expresionless.

She give a quick glance a Kiel, hoping he is not looking towards her.

Zeph thinks for a long while, trying to recall all the poisonous animals he knows about- mostly, snakes, scorpionss, and spiders. Zeph takes a quick glance at his Tiny Viper, Sliver, and thinks notices a feeling of worry on his face..

Naw. If a monstrous scorpion is not enough, then I don't think a Viper would do it, even though he's quite different from most snakes. Zeph thinks to himself.

"Well. If you think a Wyvern is the answer, then where would we find one? Or maybe we could purchase strong poisons from a black-market dealer of sorts? There has to be one on the trade routes somewhere." Zeph asks

He steps over towards Rollo as Rollo flips through the monastery books and peeks over his shoulder. "Wyverns? Don't know much about them, I'm afraid. I've heard a lot about poisonous things. After sitting there unmoving, watching everyone take to the stranger like he is a long lost friend, and with a miniscule scowl creeping on his face, quickly to be replaced by nothing, Kiel finally moves. Standing up, he walks to where he is standing behind Axara's chair, and then pipes up.
The name is Kiel. And his introduction stops there.
(Human, approx. 6' tall, brown hair, blue eyes, dressed in studded leather armor - it and his clothing all in woodland coloring with a two bladed sword leaning up against the wall behind him. The handlegrip colored the same as his armor gives it away as his)

When the topic of a Scorpion and Wyvern comes up, Kiel tries remembering tales from his mentor. Remembering some references but choosing to keep it to himself for the time being.
(knowledge:nature 21)

Leaning forward, Kiel whispers into Axara's ear.
Highlight to display spoiler: {I know you care for me as much as I care for you.}

With a smirk on his face, Kiel retrieves his weapon and goes and stands next to Feyjarl. Comparing each others two-bladed weapons while catching glimpses of Axara's reaction.
And, oh yeah, listening to the goings ons in the room.

DM Kathy
Tuesday March 24th, 2009 11:42:51 PM

"A wyvern," Dulcet replies to Hmark "is a large flying beast, very similar in appearance to a dragon. In fact, they are often mistaken for dragons. They are formidable foes, though not as powerful as dragons. They are noted for their poison sting, located in the tail."

Based on what they know of natural beasts, Rollo, Garrett, Dash, and Kiel believe that the venom of the largest known scorpions might suffice. Scorpions favor warmer climates however; there are likely to be none that large near Cinnamon Valley.

Garrett, consulting his history book, believes it is likely you could find a wyvern in the Windbourne Hills, north of Cinnamon Valley.

Dathish "Dash"

Dathish considers the problem for a second and then suggests "Selemar I once saw one of my druidic teachers creat a poison with there magic to destroy a unatural beast called a beholder. Such Magic is beyond my skill with the druidic arts, perhaps you have the abilty?"

OOC:How do you change font on this program?
Also I'd like to apolgize for my spelling/grammatical errors, I'm dyslexic wich makes spelling and grammer very hard for me but gives me very fast reading abiltys.

Selemar
Wednesday March 25th, 2009 5:49:22 AM

ooc: that's weird. I'm dyslexic and a very fast reader. I wonder if all dyslexics play druids...

"I would suspect that we would be better served by getting the authentic venom. I could create poison if we wish to save time, but it might be riskier. Wyverns aren't something that should really be left to rampage anyway, so we might as well try to take it down."

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30]
Wednesday March 25th, 2009 8:44:45 AM

Axara's thoughts start drifting away from the conversation.
" I really got to do something about my nails. They look terrible. How wonder if I should paint them black. May be I should start to file them pointy to make them look like claws..... "

When Kiel whispers something in her ear, the expression on her face changes from one of not caring to one of anger. She keeps giving nasty looks to the man.

" Who does he think he is? I don't give a hoot about him. As far as I know I wish he had never come back. Care about him? He will see. I will rip his little heart out and shred it into a million pieces. He is going to be so sorry to think he understands me. Some worthless male is going to get lucky with me and it won't be him. "

"I'm certainly game for a trip to the Windbourne Hills. I've been near there in my travels, but haven't actually gotten all the way into the hills. One of the reasons was the rumors of a wyvern that lives in them. I'm very interested in exploring those hills some time, but a wyvern would be very, very dangerous."

Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42]

"Very, very dangerous, sounds like fun.", Rollo says placing the book back with the others a genuine smile on his face. "We should rejuvenate our supplies and head out bright and early, the sooner we leave, the sooner evil is vanquished."

Zeph shakes his head in agreement with the idea to take off asap. "Umm. Madam Dulcet... I was wondering if we could receive any portion of our payment for the trip? We may face unexpected challenges and could use all the gear we could get... perhaps some potions of antivenom if we are to be dealing with a wyvern." Zeph requests sheepishly.

When the group decides to leave Dulcet's manor, Zeph will take the gems and go to a merchant in the catacombs to sell them so he can distribute the gold amongst his companions. (OOC: Be sure to update your character sheet's with the gold as soon as I get the amount the gems are worth and insert it into the excel sheet.)

Hmark
Wednesday March 25th, 2009 6:38:24 PM

"Poison sting, huh," Hmark repeats. The young man's eyes flick over to Axara, and a grin flashes across his face, appearing and disappearning in mere moments.

"Uh, sure. Windbourne Hills then."

Finally remembering the newcomer, he nods briefly. "I'm Hmark".

Kiel  d20+9=26 ;
Wednesday March 25th, 2009 10:20:34 PM

Im with Zeph. Lets take the time to research this Wyvern. Where his haunts are. And, what we all will need to safely take it down. No longer do we need to be a bunch of hooligans rushing this way and that. We need to start being cautious. Getting ourselves dead in the process of this quest is not going to help any of us, or the people here. Besides, miss priss over there (points at Axara) looks like she needs to get her nails done, and her hair and probably a makeover by the looks of it. And we all could definately use a day or two to freshen up, get all our laundry done and get resupplied not to mention our mounts/companions could use a day or two rest.

You are not making good points with me at the moment. Evesdropping on a private conversation within this group does not make you to become a friend. In fact, it might have the opposite effect. Especially since none of us know who you are or what your agenda is. Matter of fact, you might want to understand this, the last person the lady introduced us with someone, who started acting like you are, betrayed us and was killed. So if I was you I would watch your Ps and Qs.

Kiel stands there, with the tips of his ears turning a bright red, hand on his weapon gripping tightly until a few seconds go by, where through some breathing exercises taught recently to him starts to unwind him.

Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42]
Wednesday March 25th, 2009 11:56:50 PM

Rollo looks curiously at Kiel. "Excuse me, hooligans? Rushing around this way and that? I seem to recall that you decided to go left when the entire group went right. And please if you have issue with the young lady you should deal with that, because she may have not succeeded in all of our challenges, but she was at least there to face them. As far as I'm concerned you are the one who has to win us over, we are in the position of accepting you back, not the other way around."

Dathish "Dash"
Wednesday March 25th, 2009 11:59:20 PM

Dash quickly replies to Kiel's outburst in a annoyed yet tapered tone
I'm sorry if I offended you Kiel. But where I come from we do not talk in low tones and keep secrets from on each other, we insure that we know that we can trust others to deal honestly. But apparently hear things are different, for where I come from we do not lash out at those who have traveled a long way to help us. Hopefully I will become accustom to the manner that you behave hear.
After his argument with Kiel he walks over to Selemar and says in druidic
Bar-Mythel, Karslen vasha berll moner-duhla. Gaven lson Morel beshall Karslen far-meela.
Druidic translation Highlight to display spoiler: {Your friend is ill behaved, he seems troubled by something. I hope that we may learn to work together in a manner befiting those fighting the fight of good.}
afterwords he gets up and says in commen "I am ready to leave when you are untill then I suggest we get are equipment ready and ship out soon."

Your best option seems to be hunting down a wyvern in the Windbourne Hills. First, though, you need a day or two to rest and re-supply.

Dulcet nods as your discussion continues. "I can offer you the hospitality of my home," she says, "or you are welcome to stay where you like. I can offer my library for research."

And you are correct that we should not be secretive. But to follow that by speaking a language only we know..." he collapses into helpless laughter.

Lango ignores him. Elves don't often meet wolvish standards of dignified behaviour

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30]
Thursday March 26th, 2009 8:58:48 AM

Axara turns red as a hot pepper when he hears Kiel's comments. " ... Miss Prissy ..... Do my nails? ..... My makeup? .... You ...... YOU? ..... "
She is too flabbergasted to be able to talk.

She pulls her hood over her head and when Madam Dulcet over lodging, she says. " I gladly accept you offer Madame. I am longing for a hot bath. Apparently my appearances are not up to the right level for some people in this room. "

As she leaves the room, she hears Zeph monetary request and she stops right in her tracks. " We do not need any stipend. We got enough riches and spoils from our actions. Any money should go to the people in the valley who are struggling. "

She leaves the room and goes take a bath. She will spend the rest of the time in her room coming out only for meal times and will talk only if Dulcet wants to talk to her.

She will take her share of the spoil of the hawkmen and will ask Madam Dulcet if she can send one of her servants to deliver it to her mother without telling the source of the funds.

"Mom, this is nothing compared to all the disappointments and heartaches I caused to you and the family, but hopefully this will help a little.

Seeing Selemar, Rollo begins laughing as well.

Zeph AC19 HP37/37 HeroesLoot3
Thursday March 26th, 2009 2:31:45 PM

Zeph smirks at Selemar. So, Selemar is laughing because Dathish spoke in Druidic? Which is mocking in some way? Eh, whatever, at least the elf is smiling for once.

Zeph will ask Dulcet, "Could we sell some equipment that we received through some battles through you, like we did last time? Also, we have these gems and are unsure of their value." If given the OK, Zeph will venture to the horses and begin unloading some of the loot.

Zeph will sell the two chain shirts+1, the MW longbows, the MW kukris, and the MW Long Swords at their market prices, 90% of value. The total of these items is 4046gold and 40 silver. Zeph then divides it by six and distributes 674.40 gold (or gems worth that much) to Garret, Selemar, Hmark, Rollo, Feyjarl, and himself. (OOC: so go ahead and add that to your sheets if you want)

Its a shame Buhl is not here. He deserves a share as well. Zeph thinks to himself.

If Dulcet knows someone who can appraise the gems, then Zeph will sell them to her and distribute the value to the same six.

Also, Zeph will hand 134gold to Axara from his own pocket. "That is how much I owe you, correct?" Zeph says.

Then he will venture to the catacombs and go visit his foster-father, Marko Clemso, at the tannery.

Hmark
Thursday March 26th, 2009 4:42:20 PM

Hmark walks over and happily takes his share from Zeph.

"Her appearance is fine," he murmurs. "Its her mouth that could use some work."

The archer starts to say more, but glances at Dulcet and clams up.

Kiel
Thursday March 26th, 2009 8:30:45 PM

Rollo, I do also remember a certain gnome who, when he thought things were slowing down would, without the groups consideration, go running off ahead, putting them into a situation. So don't sit there with your holier than thou attitude with me. As for you mister new druid. A conversation between 2 people, not having to do with anything about a quest is none of your damn business. And then to talk in a language not known to everyone is very hypocritical. Your best bet is to stay away from me.

And smiles at Selemar.

Kiel takes the couple days to clean up. Wash and mend clothing. Tends to his friend, Phoenix. And then does some shopping.
Will practice with his weapon, (with Fey should he wish to do some sparing) during the mornings, and then in the evening sits outside watching the stars, listening to the night animals and smelling the fragrances of nature.
During the afternoon til supper time, is spent doing light replenishing, then hitting the local sages looking for any info regarding a Wyvern or group of Wyverns in the hills, and seeks out a possible map if one is available.

Dathish "Dash"

You spend a few days resting, making repairs, buying new equipement. Dulcet has the gems appraised, and their value totals 4,000 gp.

Selemar spends a great deal of this time in earnest conversation with Lango.

The first morning, when she returns from breakfast to her room at Dulcet's, Axara finds the chamber filled with flowers. Bouquets of pink, yellow, lavender, and white flowers have been set in jars and vases on what seems like every available surface. There is no note.

Kiel is able to locate a rough map of the Windbourne Hills, and a vague idea where wyverns can most likely be found.

Dash spends some time out hunting. He bags a few rabbits and a large goose.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30]
Friday March 27th, 2009 12:46:07 AM

The flowers are wasted on Axara mood. She will give them away to a maid if there is one or bring them to Madam Dulcet. She will not inquire who are they from.

After Madam Dulcet's envoy delivers the gold to Axara's mother the sorcerer grills the envoy: "How is my mother? My sisters? do the look happy? Hungry? Are the cupboards full? How do the fields look? What about the farms animal?"

After that she will stay in her room, painting her nails black and working on getting a pale base to accentuate the dark make-up around her eyes. She starts to look quite strange, similar to a vampire. ((translation: She did herself a goth look)).

Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42]  d3=3 ; d3=1 ;
Friday March 27th, 2009 1:39:59 AM

Rollo leaves Dulcet's manor and heads into the woods. A gnome on a mission, he seeks out an old patch of forest he remembered from his youth. A lush orchard of trees surrounding a rough stone monolith. When he was younger he could not see the beauty this field, but now he found it blinding. This would be the place.

Stepping to the stone, Rollo extends his hand and touches the cold slab of bedrock sensing the great elemental spirit within. Closing his eyes he communes with the unseen denizens of the field and commands them to obey in the name of Eberyon.

Casts Stone Shape

A crude gazebo-esque structure takes shape from the rock, a shrine. A small circular pedistal rises in the center of the floor, a simple altar.

Surveying the area he looks for the components of his next addition, once he locates what he needs he turns to the front of the shrine and calls on the aid of the sacred badgers of valadoon.

CastsSummon monster II x 2

(summoning 4 celestial badgers and commands them to dig a trench, 10'x10'x 2' deep)

Once the badgers return home Rollo rolls a large stone into the hole. Once again calling on the power of Eberyon to command the stone he lines the earthen basin with a thin layer of stone. Finishing the project off he fills the pool with crystal clear water from the heavens.

Casts Stone Shape, and Create water as many time as necessary (can use all my zero level spots and domain ability to create up to 60 gallons).

Rollo will spend the remainder of this productive first day on general yard work. PUlling weeds, creating a stone path, etc.

When night begins to fall, and the town folk begin to fill the taverns Rollo does so as well, heading to the largest local establishment.

Zeph emerges from the Catacombs with the 4000gold in his pouch, he removes 666.66 and gives it to Hmark, Garret, Rollo, Selemar, and Feyjarl. (OOC: Sorry, 4000 divided by 6 is 666.66 repeating... go figure...) "I recommend taking time to upgrade any equipment for the venture. I purchased spells that may be worth while." Zeph says, with a wink.

Zeph also has on his person about nine spell scrolls he will spend time writing into his black-leather bound spellbook. It takes him 24 hours per spell. He goes to Dulcet's library and buries himself in his work. He begins by removing his Mithril Chain shirt and casting Read Magic (which is prepared each day) so that he fully understands the spell. He then begins the labor of methodically recording the scrolls into his book.

(SPellcraft DC is 15+spell level =16. Failure means I cannot try to record the spell again until I gain another rank in spellcraft... which is a while from now but the scroll is still intact. I don't know how many days we will spend here, so I rolled 4 times. 3 success, 1 failure. The rest can wait till we start traveling i suppose)

Spells are: True Strike (success), Cause Fear(success), Alarm (success), Hold Portal (failure), Ray of Enfeeblement, Reduce Person, Summon Monster I, Disguise Self, and Feather fall

In his free time, when he is not studying, he will go to a weapon smithy and purchase a mundane Spiked Chain (non-magical, so catacombs not needed right?). He will practice with this thing, swinging it wildly at targets such as tree branches, actually hurting himself more than the poor tree.

Spellbook #1 is 26/100 pages full.

Selemar
Friday March 27th, 2009 3:20:17 AM

Selemar does spend time with his sister and her family, but spends a lot of time with the wolf, including some time together as wolves. He's growing to like the shape.

A few days after the meeting, he casts speak with animals, and the two converse

"lango, you know we're hunting something big and dangerous we can't eat, right?"

"You always hunt big things you can't eat."

"This one is very dangerous."

growwwwwwwwwl

"I want you to stay here for me."

Plaintive whine

"There are bad people there, and maybe they want to hurt my family. maybe not. I don't know. Wolves protect their pack. Protect mine!"

In the end, there is a reluctant acceptance. The wolf will remain in the valley as long as possible and try to keep an eye on the elves. Promises are made of food for him. The next few days involve hunting deer and rabbits together, before Lango is dismissed as an animal companion, having again been told to stay out of town and avoid humans when possible.

A day or so later, a subdued elf can be spotted in the woods, muttering to a black bear.

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:20 HP:21/21]
Friday March 27th, 2009 10:17:07 AM

Garret watches Axara and her anger as she storms out of the room. When she appears for a meal, just before she heads back to her room, Garret says, "Anger can direct strong energy, but it seldom enriches the person who directs it."

When Kiel sits outside watching nature, Garret quietly joins him and sits without saying a word. He goes along with Kiel when he speaks to the local sages and asks a few additional questions about the wyverns, seeking knowledge about weak points and known successful battle strategies.

When Zeph returns with the massive spiked chain, Garret raises his eyebrows. "And what, exactly, are you going to do with that thing?" He smiles, then outright laughs when Zeph attacks the tree and gets beaten. He explains, "Sometimes, the manner of weapon is not in its size, but in the ability to control it. And in time, you may find, as I have, that using such a cumbersome item actually lessens your ability to control and hit things." He tries to show Zeph how to attack the tree with hands and feet.

Dathish "Dash"
Friday March 27th, 2009 8:25:55 PM

Dathish spends much of the time hunting and conversing with Selmar and Garret. While returning from a hunt he sees Zeph practicing with the large chain. After watching for a few moments he walks up and taps Zeph's arm
You have the power behind the stroke, you just need to focus that strength into a controlled blow. Come, this tree has done nothing wrong if you wish to master this skill you need one to spar with.
Dash pulls out a incredibly large longsword a scabbard at his side and hefts a intricately carved wooden sheild with the emblem of a deer and a wolfs paw as its crest. He then takes a relaxed stance
Go ahead try and give me a glancing blow

After successfully wrapping the chain around Dathish's leg, Zeph gives it a mighty tug, to try to bring the large man down. (Strength check =9. bleh. About their lairs and most importantly, about their special attacks and defenses. Then he begins starting to practice his dance of combat to take those into account.

Oh mister holier than thou, Kiel says when he finally sees the gnome, Some precautionary spells, potions and the like might be useful in the upcoming task with the Wyverns. Maybe through the purchase of extras from the catacombs just in case might prove beneficial to us all.

Kiel also spends time with Phoenix, grooming and such including training with the companion, both in the saddle and not.

Axara gives the flowers away and spends her time cultivating a new, decidedly gloomy, look. Zeph learns spells, and Selemar finally makes good his long-standing threat and trades Lango in for a bear. Rollo uses magic and summoned creatures to create a new structure.

You also practice some, and exchange a few friendly insults, as you wait for packages to be delivered from the Catacombs. Today, Zeph's purchase arrives, a bundle of scrolls.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30] Picture
Monday March 30th, 2009 1:31:55 AM

Axara transformation is slow but quite striking. In addition to her pale face and eye make-up, she colors her lips bright, bright red. Her hair has now purple highlights.
She has added a couple of garments that differentiates from the old Axara: she now wears a collar choker with claws coming out of it and silk lace half-gloves to go with her black painted nails.

She had stopped hiding her face under the hood. She still wear her hood but her face is now visibly.

Her eyes reflects melancholy and sorrow but she has not acted angry at all since the meeting with Madam dulcet. On the contrary, she had even asked Dulcet if she could be of any help. However, she has made no effort to interact with the other team members.

She has lost whatever farm girl look she had left and she is definitively different looking. Is this transformation another of her phases or is something bigger at work here?

Zeph will probably notice Axara's new look around supper time, when he joins the rest of the group. He looks up from his bowl of stew, looks at her for about a second, then goes back to eating. Disguise Self. That would be a good spell. Zeph thinks. Later on that day Zeph fails to record the spell from the scroll into his book.

Hmark
Monday March 30th, 2009 3:03:13 PM

Like the others, Hmark spends extra time practicing, although he forgoes the flail and concentrates on his bow. Mostly, he sets up his targets in a wooded area with lots of braches and briars in the way to shoot around.

Eventually, he returns from the Catacombs sporting a new cloak.

Axara's new look registers an upraised eyebrow, but the archer refrains from commenting. Besides, Rollo is much better at it.

I wonder what word my dad used to describe me. It surely was neither good nor odd. Glad I do not know. Oh, how things have changed! I used to the golden little girl; the one he thought will bring him alliance with a large rich farm or even a noble. How disappointed he was when he realized that my looks would not be his road to riches. Poor mom, having to constantly defend her wild, odd daughter against dad and my sisters. I wonder why she agreed to let dad sell me to the perverted sage. Well this did blow any bubble I had about my self worth. Well at least I know what and who I am and what I can do.

I wonder what they would say if they would see me now. Mom would give me the hugs she as the secret and would wonder if I eat right. My sisters would probably snicker, convinced now that I went the deep. They would probably point to which ever one is pregnant, indicating that THEY know how to satisfy and keep a man. If they only knew ...... The little ones would probably be scared .... And Dad ... dad .. would just pretend I do not exist or simply chase that freaky monster away from his house .... Yes .. I guess I did not live up to anyone expectations, not even mine .... But still, I have killed and I would die for them ... and they will never know it ....

Axara spends the rest of the time at dulcet house lost in her thoughts, talking walks in the garden. She is often seen by a window, playing with one of her purple strand of hair, starring sadly into nothingness.

She has been working on her nails to make them sharp and pointy.

Over the next couple days the open air temple took shape, it was truly a sight to behold, a grand tribute to Eberyon. Rollo spend one of the days crafting a collection of holy symbols and distributed them among his new flock telling them that anyone who carries this symbol and fights for good, will always have his aid and the aid of Eberyon.

He also constructed an ornate staff (Craft (Weapon):15) and topped it with a continual Flame this he gave to Seamus, a young man who had proven his dedication to Eberyon through his tireless effort. "You are to keep this temple in my absence, tend to it, and Eberyon will tend to you."

Rollo spent the remainder of his time instructing those who seemed interested in the basic rituals of the religion. Leaving food for the invisible creatures of the forest, spreading the stories of noble warriors so they would not need dishonor themselves as braggarts.

On days were he found a free moment Rollo would travel to the temples of the other good deities of the area and discuss cosmology and how Eberyon fit with the others, and how the temples could work together to bring peace to the land. (Diplomacy: 29)

Kiel
Tuesday March 31st, 2009 7:05:46 PM

*fyi, in case you didnt notice, I am unable to post on sunday and monday*

(response to Rollo's post on monday)
I can't have Axara so I hit on someone else. You're a moron. I leave the group to right a wrong, and in the process stop the rest of the group from being hunted, and all you can say is I need to re-prove myself to the group. That comment just shows how shallow you really are.

(Tuesday's post)
Kiel notices Axara's transformation.

She knows my feelings. They aint gonna stop just because she wishes to change her appearance or style. Like I told her before, it's not what's outside her that attracted him, but what is inside. But, time to just let her be, and let her decide her path. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be, if not, well, then it's not. Kiel thinks to himself.

Still unchanged, Kiel practices with his two-bladed sword in the morning after breakfast, then works with Phoenix after lunch, then after supper her retires to the outside with whoever wishes to join him, drinking a brandy, and making small talk. About mid evening Kiel, after checking on the animals, he removes himself to his room. Talks to his parents a little, and then drifts off to sleep.

(hops in the way back machine)

Shallow? Is he under the impression I am a lake, or stream? Is it a reference to my height? Is he just realizing my size?

Rollo never raises his voice, his tone even and genuinely curious. "You knew there was a wrong to right, and instead of letting the group help, you left. You sensed a threat and instead of warning the group you decided it best to deal with it alone, the whole time leaving us in unknown danger if you failed. Do you see how you put yourself before the group in this situation? You sought glory for yourself over the safety of the group, you wanted to be the hero, but if you failed you would have just left us to die in the dark. So yes you have to reprove your loyalty to me, whether you want my approval or not I do not care, but how are we to know that when things get difficult you won't wander off in the night again?"

"As for your atonement to your higher powers on my behalf, I'm grateful you thought of me, but that was your choice, I have one power I answer to and he is not one of your high born officials. Now if you will excuse me I have something I must attend to."

Rollo walks off.

Zeph decides to spend this day recording the ever-useful Reduce Person spell. (Spellcraft check = 19)

He then visits Kiel when he is practicing alone. "Hey. Mind if we spar?" Zeph takes out his Rapier and tries to Feint (Bluff =27). Then he takes a step in and tries to do subdual damage (Hit AC 6, miss)

During the sparring, Zeph will say, "Mind if I cheat a little?" Then he casts Reduce Person at Kiel on the defensive as to not incur an AOO (Conc =19, success). (Fortitude DC is 15)

After that, Zeph will sit with the slightly smaller ranger (if it worked), and sip on brandy. "Think it will take less alcohol to get you drunk if you are smaller? he jokes.

Eventually, Zeph will get to the reason why he came to talk to Kiel, "Uhm.. It may not be my place to say, but I have noticed a bit of a disagreement between yourself and Rollo. I just wanted to point out that this whole thing started because you got angry at Dathish for trying to listen into your whispering with Axara. Thus it could have been avoided by 1: you not getting angry, 2: trusting Dulcet's judgment with new companions, we did trust you when you introduced Feyjarl, after all. or 3: you coulda waited to talk to her in private. I mean, I am rather neutral, and I'm not saying it is all your fault... just give some people some slack eh? We are giving you some in return. "

After saying that, Zeph will stand and say, "Look. It's good having you back." he says sincerely.

Rollo's temple is now quite a magnificant sight. The young man Seamus is pleased with his gift, although at first he is inclined to wave it about rather carelessly, fascinated with the cool flame that never goes out. He gets accustomed to it in time, though, and earnestly pledges to watch over the shrine and tell everyone of Ebyron's might and mercy.

Axara continues to be glum and mopey, but she does not succeed in shaking Kiel's affection for her.

Zeph and Selemar continue to practice with their new spells and abilities, while Hmark and Garrett show off their new purchases.

Selemar
Wednesday April 1st, 2009 2:38:33 AM

selemar spends some time at Rollo's temple, admiring the structure. Ebyron is not the major deity of the elves, but he is respected. Anything that makes people respect the wild places is good to him.

strange to think that one day, these lands may follow Rollo's god. If I understand humans correctly, I may be coming here when they;ve forgotten who built this temple. Or perhaps he'll be a legend. I wonder if I'ld be able to tell them that their teacher wore pots and pans? Hmm, I onder if any other heros have been so armored...

Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:20 HP:21/21]
Wednesday April 1st, 2009 8:58:20 AM

Garret spends his time wandering around the grounds and area around Dulcet's house. He often appears near the temple that Rollo is building, watching with interest. He does not interfere, as he senses that Rollo wants the people to build and be part of the temple. He also watches from the trees as members fight, observing carefully, but talking little.

There are other times when he does not appear, and he spends that time wandering, looking at the trees, rocks, and the area. He spends some time watching the roads, observing people who come into town and who leave the area.

Axara [AC: 17 HP 30/30] Picture
Wednesday April 1st, 2009 9:16:24 AM

At one of the community dinner, while eating silently and playing with one of her purple strand of hair, Axara realizes that none of the heroes have commented on her new look. She did NOT expect them to care, quite the contrary, well, except may be for one of them.
I thought Kiel somehow really cared about me. How foolish of me. I should have known that he only really wanted one thing from me. When I did not give it to him, he lost interest. How not surprising! He has not made one comment about the new me. I am glad I found that he is only skin deep. We can be friend now and if I have the physical urge to bed him, it will be just that, satisfying a physical need. Things are clearer now.

Later she sees, the heroes practicing their craft boys playing with swords pretending to be men, trying to prove their manhood. How juvenile ...... but I guess it is part of their charm, that inability to grow up and tie their value to the length of their sword .....

She walks down to see Kiel, playing with the claws of her chocker, her black sharp nails matching her silk cut-off gloves. Her luscious bright red lips are a big contrast with her super white face and deep, very deep blue eyes.
Since her makeover, she has stopped hiding her face under the hood but still wears her hood up to increase the mysterious factor. Her voice is calm, collected and somewhat sad.
Kiel, do you think this group will ever be more than a rag tag collection of misfits? I know that there is no love lost for me from any of them, not that I blame them but I noticed that since you left to clear the group name and returned, they seem to have little love for you. Do you think we have a future as a tight group or will go our way when the job is done?

Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42]

Rollo is glad to see Seamus is enjoying the staff, and shows him a few ways to swish it that he thinks looks neat. Once they are done with that Seamus straightens up and pledges his devotion to Eberyon. Rollo is happy knowing that someone will be tending to the temple while he is gone.

When Selemar and Garret show up, Rollo welcomes them and shows them around. He asks if either of them would like to help in whatever way they feel they can, but nothing is required. "Eberyon has watched over me for years, and now he watches over us, I felt this modest tribute would show my appreciation. You are welcome to show yours as well, by doing whatever you can to enhance the beauty, or protection of this place. Whether you know it or not Eberyon is your patron as well."

Rollo will spend his day as he has the last several, doing what he can to beautify the temple during the day (a nice firepit, stocked with a variety of pots and pans for wandering travelers to cook a meal), and at night at the various taverns, and temples.

Zeph will walk up to hear Rollo's offer to help improve the shrine to Eberyon.

Enhance the protection of the place? Zeph thinks

Zeph then walks up to the shrine, casts Alarm on it and says, "The password is Hufflepuff. Anyone who doesn't say it upon entering 20feet of the area will set of the alarm... The spell only lasts for two hours, but it can be made permanent if we can hire someone with a Permanency spell." Zeph says, with a chuckle.

(ooc: not to knitpick geography, but Rollo was speaking to garret and selemar at the temple (outside of the city and further in the woods), and you are in town sword fighting with Kiel.)

"ummm...Thanks zeph, but I don't think the shrine needs an alarm. it is open to all who seek the guidance of Eberyon, and hufflepuff? That's just silly. Rollo smiles. "Also permanency is pricey. I was thinking more like planting flowers, cleaning paths. "

Zeph frowns at Rollo a bit. "I was just trying to keep vandals out.But if you're going to be picky..." Zeph says as he walks away with a smirk on his face.
