DM Jim Wednesday June 24th, 2009 6:55:17 PM
Welcome everyone!
We'll be concluding all the game business here from now on. Please feel free to use the die roller to get the hang of it and using some of the board html commands such as Italics, Bold and spoilers: Highlight to display spoiler: {Can you read this? Good!}. The commands for these are linked in the Woldipedia, be sure to take a good look around there.
For future reference, I would ask that when your character speaks, that you put the quoted speech in bold, for example:
Gio nods, "I concur, let's travel to the Rising Sun, and have a great time!"
Please place OOC statements in Italics, this includes game details at the bottom of your in character statement.
For now, we will only be talking in OOC until the characters are formalized and the game starts.
One last point, no matter how much chocolate you give Donna, I am the posting DM and will decide your fate and vice versa when Donna runs a module. If ever a problem arises that you feel you are being treated unfairly, please bring it to me first and we'll talk it over. If you feel unsatisfied after that, we'll bring Donna into it. If that doesn't work, we'll all go to Jerry and talk about it. We are all here to have fun, but it is still a game with rules, not freeform. That said, I prefer yellow curry, extra spicy :)
DM Jim Wednesday June 24th, 2009 7:09:32 PM A note about posting times
When the game starts, I'll be posting the daily turn everyday M-F at about 10am Alaska time. It is important that you post before then, especially during combat. Failure to post means your character does nothing if not stated beforehand(non-combat), or goes on the defensive(combat).
XP's are awarded for posting frequency, combat success and roleplaying.
Any questions, just ask :)
DM Jim Wednesday June 24th, 2009 7:51:10 PM Posting Name
When we get to posting in character, please try to follow this format in your post name section:
Drew to 'Small Help Please' Wednesday June 24th, 2009 11:19:22 PM
If everyone could please post with their real name in the Post Name field in here until the game begins then everyone can know who is talking and it will help us become familiar with each other.
As for the link issue This is what Jim posted above: {link href="http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=df355xv5_12cs9rgnpc"}Giovanni{/link} that is the structure of the link but when you type that into your Post Name field, once we begin play, you would use brackets [&] instead of {&}...all of the posting codes are typed with the brackets opening and closing the code..therefore the bold code would look like this with brackets instead of wavy things {b}whatever text you want emboldened here{/b}
so {link href="..."}Character Name{/link} is the basic code...enter the web address where the ... is and then your character name between the open and close code commands.
Also, this is the link for the cheat sheet for coding here in the Wold.

Everyone, don't forget to put your real name and email ...AT...Dot... on your character sheet somewhere.
Valla [AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6 d100=27 ; d100=30 ; d100=9 ; Saturday June 27th, 2009 9:21:53 PM
HAHA! lookin good if I don't say so myself.... Good numbers today too. So, I've thought about multiclassing to Ranger.... I think givin that this story is taking place around a plains, and in a city, that seems, that it may be useful to have someone who is better than average at finding or following people/things.
Drew and Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 [Drew] Sunday June 28th, 2009 2:23:03 AM Everyone - I was restless so I went ahead and got the 5 player's completed characters linked up on the Hook City Wiki page...I will go ahead and link up the others as the finished sheets are done.
Jim and Donna - I changed 1 little thing on my CS...dropped a skill point in Know:Arcana and put it into Craft:Tattoo as I think that Sixtus will be going after the Brahmah's Tattoo feat eventually. I also put up a pic that is close to Sixtus' appearance...I may find a more suitable one later on.

One More Note to Players Before the Game Officially Starts:
Unless your PCs have it written into their specific backgrounds, none of the player characters know each other before the Official Start of this campaign.
Also please note: all of these "pre-Official-Start" posts will be deleted once the campaign is underway.
Good luck, adventurers!

BUSINESS AS USUAL -- DM Jim d20+3=4 ; Monday June 29th, 2009 4:23:54 PM
That which blossoms falls, the way of all flesh in this world of flowers. - Kiko 1823
It's been raining for the last three days, and the best thing that may be said about the drizzle that continues into today is that it isn't the downpour that had been occurring previously. You survey the scene before you: the vast, muddy expanse of space that is right outside the northern gates into the City of Magic--this is Mudtown. The pace is brisk and the action a bit lively, but anyone looking to hire themselves out as guards to the merchants have been directed to this area of Hook City--which the city guard do not regard as part of the city proper, so (short of a murder occurring within sight of the gates or the guard towers of the huge protective wall that surrounds the city) any people who occupy Mudtown are largely on their own.
Right now, however, you are concerned with staking a place in this locale--specifically the track that is called "Hire Road." The "road" is a muddy, wide swath cut between several rows of wooden buildings that are lined with adventurers seeking positions with the merchants that have to wait outside the walls of the city until their number is called. There are several people that traverse the road, obviously merchants, as they all seem to peer at the various mercenaries with intent eyes. The easiest way to tell the difference between the merchants and the mercenaries is that most of the merchants are being carried over the ever-muddy ground, usually in specially-crafted litters or chairs mounted on horizontal poles, although there are a few who seem to be levitating. Occasionally one or another of these merchants beckons to one or another of the mercenaries and begins to speak in earnest with them. You, seeking to be one of those elite known as "gainfully employed", are here to park on one side of Hire Road and (hopefully) catch the eye of merchants looking to get themselves trustworthy body guards.
As you scan the chaotic scene, you hear a yelp and turn to see a running little boy of about 3ft. in height being pursued by several people, who are shouting to each other: "There he goes!" "Get him!" One of the people (a female half-orc) draws an arrow as they run, slows down and then stops to aim and fire the arrow, which goes whistling past the fleeing boy and lands with a meaty "thunk" into the pole of a canopy, narrowly missing a woman who screams in shock. The little boy will be running right by your location in just one round--and the archer is taking aim once more.
What do you do? --------------------- All players please make a DC4 or higher SPOT skill check to Highlight to display spoiler: {The little boy is in fact a badly disguised halfling}
Players moving through the viscous, clingy mud do so at half their normal Movement. Running requires a Dexterity check versus DC15 or the runner slips and falls in the slippery mud. Anyone falling down requires passing another Dex check versus DC15 to stand back up again.
The 7 Chasers (approx. 50ft from Valla, 40 from the little boy) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 - Human male wearing chain shirt, possible warrior 2 - Halfling male wearing chain shirt, possible warrior 3 - Half-orc female wearing studded leather, wielding just fired bow 4 - Human male wearing blue robes, carrying a staff 5 - Half-elf female wearing green robes 6 - Half-elf female wearing breastplate and wielding a mace 7 - Human female wearing rich clothing and being carried in a chaise-litter by two muscular half-orcs.
The Party ------------ Small l = little boy V = Valla P = Padre B = Bosk Big l = Lenwe N = Naru A = Ariman
I will post the results of the turn tomorrow about the same time, so please reply prior to that for round 1. Any questions, email or private post here.
Lenwe Monday June 29th, 2009 4:44:46 PM
Lenwe arches an eyebrow at the scene and thinks:
"Hmmm...the boy may be innocent or guilty of theft....but if those idiots keep shooting arrows into the crowd, they're going to kill someone."
I stand my ground and cast Sleep at the boy. If needed, I'll defend the boy afterwards...hopefully it won't come to that.
I changed it for you, but please remember to put your character's name and link in the post name above -- DM Jim
Valla [AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6-Marty d20=17 ; d20=15 ; Monday June 29th, 2009 5:26:49 PM
Spot Check- 17+2=19
While standing in the drizzle, thinking about what to do next, Valla sees the little boy, and upon peering through his halfwits disguise, he begins to act quickly. 'not here a single bell and trouble is already started' he mutters to himself while making his way to intercept the running boy. Valla doenst mind justice, but this is a rather large group giving chase to a single halfling. somethings not right here he thinks while sticking out his quarterstaff attempting to trip the halfling, only to then grab him and try to find out what exactly is going on here.
Trip attempt 15 (not sure what modifier, if any..)
Naru [AC:14/12/12 HP:5/5] d20-1=12 ; Monday June 29th, 2009 7:22:11 PM "I didn't do it?!?" Naru jumps up and drops her book into the mud as the commotion erupts,
"Dang it." When the arrow thunks into a nearby pole she follows it's flight path and puts the pieces together.
With a flick of her finger Naru casts Daze on the "little boy."
"Can't you see people are trying to read here?" Naru turns to the archer, "And you should know better than shooting arrows into a crowd of people."
Naru grumbles under her breath as she retrieves her book from the mud, "I swear no one thinks before they act in this town."
("little boy" needs to make a DC 16 Will save, or lose his action)
Naru [AC:14/12/12 HP:5/5] Monday June 29th, 2009 7:24:05 PM Nice map, what did you use to create it? Can you increase the font size on some of the letter, some are hard to read.
Xeron AC15 HP 7/7 d20=4 ; Monday June 29th, 2009 9:28:49 PM
Xeron is not sure but looks at the boy and realizes he is an halfling Probably one on the new recruit from the guild, who tried to cut a purse and got caught. I should stop him. One the other hand, the pursuers seems that they could afford a loss of two and show no respect for human life by shooting arrows in a crowd. Who should I help? Completely split by his indecision, the young man stands there and does nothing, other than putting his hand on his rapier. He tries to see if he recognizes the halfling or the pursuers
Ariman Couatlfang (Jason) d20+3=23 ; Monday June 29th, 2009 9:44:23 PM
Ariman shakes his head as he slogs through the muck, " 'Mudtown' is an extremely appropriate name for this little hamlet" he thinks to himself. He had only recently moved into the area, he had felt the call from Alemi to bring a word of Peace and Understanding here in the southern regions. He was unsure how the quarrelsome people of the South might interpret the Word of Alemi. Would they see Peace as weakness or could they see the strength that comes from surrender. He was shook from his reverie by the young, child (?) running towards him and the large party following him. "I guess I will get to see what a Word of Understanding might mean among the people here!"
"Get behind me!" he calls to the little "boy". He will attempt to shepherd the child behind him, raise his shield to defend against any arrows and put all 5 points into his Expertise to bring his AC to 22. (And his Base Attack Bonus to -5)

Bosk Deox (James) d20=12 ; Tuesday June 30th, 2009 9:14:38 AM
Bosk overhears Ariman and turns his head to see a disguised halfling and his pursuers running toward them. Immediately it strikes him that something is not right. Never had he heard of a woman in a litter chasing after someone. That was what they hired mercenaries for. The only thing he could think of was that this disguised halfling must have committed some injustice against her.
Feeling that justice must be done, but unsure of the crime, he will watch the "child" and attempt to grab him if he runs past or hides behind Ariman. If the boy is dazed of put to sleep he will move forward to protect him. Justice cannot be carried out in anger.

Round 1 Conclusion -- DM Jim d20+2=9 ; Tuesday June 30th, 2009 4:52:57 PM
Plum petals falling I look up--the sky, a crisp clear moon. - Baiko 1903
Lenwe assesses the scene quickly and invokes a spell of sleep on the running lad, who succumbs to it rather easily and crashes head first into the mud, sliding a good 10' before coming to a stop.
Valla thinks about tripping the young lad/halfling, but see's he's been subdued with a spell of some sort and promptly goes and picks up the lad for fear of him suffocating in the muck that permeates Mudtown.
Naru, on edge, perhaps a little paranoid (just because she's paranoid, doesn't mean someone isn't watching her :) sees the encounter and stops before casting a spell, noticing the "little boy" was out cold.
Xeron watched from his hiding place as the ensuing battle began to unfold.
Ariman runs to place himself between the unconscious halfling and the oncoming gang, raising his shield to defend against any incoming arrows.
Bosk evaulates the situation at hand and determines if justice is to be done, it will not be done in anger. The large minotaur rushes forward and places himself as a shield to protect the halfling as Ariman had just done.
The gang of 7 slowly move forward, with the two warriors (1,2) in the lead. As they approach, one of the warriors(1) says, "Thanks for the help, skubs. We'll take him from here on, so just hand him over nice like and there won't be any trouble, alright?" Those looking see the archer (3) has a bead on Bosk and is holding her shot. The rest have seemed to take up defensive positions and look like they've done this before.

Valla [AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6-Marty Tuesday June 30th, 2009 5:12:23 PM
Seeing the huge minotaur in front of him slightly startles Valla, until he sees that the beast is helping the other defender. thank the gods for that. next he turns his attention to the speaking warrior. skubs? Valla wonders to himself, still holding the boy, although not liking the fact that he cant carry the child and fight this gang. He chooses his words somewhat carefully, trying to figure out whats going on. Upon noticing that the gang isn't clad in any foraml wear he thinks No law to give chase to this boy, I wonder why.... "Im also looking to keep outta trouble, so I do hope your not threating me, or these men." Nodding his head toward the minotaur and the defender. "I would hope you would share his crime with us, without that knowledge, I don't believe I can hand him over without guilt, so which is it skubs? stumbiling over the last word, Valla hopes if anything goes wrong that at least the defender and minotaur will help him protect the boy, although he's not sure it would be enough. Three on seven arn't good odds, and these men look experienced, we might be in trouble here....
Naru [AC:14/12/12 HP:5/5] Tuesday June 30th, 2009 6:18:14 PM
Naru scraps the mud from her book and sits back down. "Shouldn't there be some sort of payment? I mean you needed us Skubs to do your job for you, so it only seems fair that we be paid for a days work.....could use it to get a new book."
Lenwe Tuesday June 30th, 2009 8:27:43 PM
"For some reason I don't beleive you are the law here...oh, and I'm with them." Lenwe motions his head towards the minotaur(!), the Elf, and the colorful young lady.
"Oh, Archer, by the way," Lenwe says pontis at the archer aiming at the minotaur and then wingles his fingers, "My arrows don't need a bow to shoot them. You almost hit a passer-by a moment ago. Please put down the bow before someone gets hurt."
Lenwe stands still, ready to cast another spell if need be and thinks....
How quickly complicated things become...
Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 [Drew] Tuesday June 30th, 2009 9:02:11 PM
These past few days have been more interesting than most. The path that Sixtus had been following changed over night, not long ago. He was heading to Gateway Downs. He was going to learn of the Crones. He was going to speak of Gargul. He had a plan.
Then the Great Migration happened. It actually happened. It took Sixtus a few weeks to find his way but he eventually came upon Hook City. He has only known this city from stories and the surface knowledge that Hook City was the trading hub and an illustrious one at that. He truly only knew where he was once he saw those giant hooks--like visible claws from some invisible, metallic giant...or perhaps like giant god-hooks without bait, dangling temptation to the mortals of the Southern Continent.
Sixtus did what Sixtus does when in an unfamiliar location; he began to talk to the common people. He learned, at seminary school, that to understand the common folk is to understand the problems in the area. He hadn't enough time to learn enough about these people to proffer any theories of the current times but he knows now that everyone understands their role in and around Hook City.
This morning, Sixtus finds himself in Mudtown talking amongst the people, handling questions and hecklers alike about his god, Gargul. There is little room on this continent for the gods; luckily for Sixtus, Gargul owns a large stake of their little real estate. As he talks to an older man about what usually takes place on this over-crowded mud-street, screams erupt and the twang of a bowstring is heard.
These are the sounds of the Taker of Life growing bored.
The tan man turns to see several things happen at once: a boy face plants into the street like a marionette without its strings, a minotaur and another person step in front of the heap of clothes and skin while another pulls the child up, and words begin being exchanged with ever-increasing sharpness.
Sixtus nods to the old man, runs a hand through his haphazard hair and begins walking along the street before crossing it, behind the minotaur, to get to the left side.

Xeron AC15 HP 7/7 Tuesday June 30th, 2009 9:55:19 PM
Still unsure of which side is good, Xeron walks slowly towards the group. He stays against the house but position himself in a way that if battle would start, he could flank the side he decided was bad.
He stands there saying nothing, his hand on his rapier.
"Who is good here? The halfling is a likely thief. The group of 7 are careless about human lives. The woman wants to be paid to deliver an unconcious thief. They are calling each other names. Which side is good?"
A familiar voice appears in his hide "Why do you care? Let them kill each other and wait to loot the bodies. Why do you want to be involved?"
He shakes his to get rid of the voice of doubt. "I promise I wil do good. Now who is good here? It would have been easier if the halfling had been a boy.

REMINDER:
There are only six character sheets entered into the Hook City section of the Woldipedia...if we have eight players, then there are two CSes missing. Those two player characters will not be able to participate in combat nor any other RP situations that call for Skill checks (or the like) until they have their CSes posted as accessible Google Docs.
Bosk Deox (James) AC 11/10/10 HP 14 d20+1=12 ; Wednesday July 1st, 2009 9:20:57 AM
Wondering how he always manages to get himself in to these situations, Bosk Straightens to his full height, to look more intimidating and in hopes he will demoralize his would be attackers (12). This was clearly not how he wished to spend his day. Studying the two warriors in front of him he cannot help but give a queer smile to the halfling warrior standing six feet below him. The guy was brave. Looking up, and noticing his new comrades were also preparing for battle, he decides that he needs to take charge. While not exactly a people person himself, there was no reason to fight at this point. He leaves his morningstar strapped to his side.
Bellowing in his deep voice, Bosk addresses the woman in the litter. "We are friends and your target is not resisting. There is no need for weapons at the moment, as we have no desire for battle. You are clearly a civilized woman. Please, speak to us."
Bosk looks directly at the woman hoping to convey that while he does not wish to fight, that he will if provoked.
Ariman Couatlfang (Jason) Wednesday July 1st, 2009 12:35:08 PM
Ariman relaxes slightly, "Well said, sir. With your quarry fast asleep, he is no further danger and no further bother. If he has done some heinous wrong or poses a deadly threat then we shall assist you in setting such injustice straight, but if he" Ariman flicks his head in the direction of the muddy sleeping halfling, "is not such a terror that we need to be shooting arrows into a crowd of innocent bystanders, then perhaps we can come to some understanding..."
Round 2 Conclusion -- DM Jim d20+1=7 ; Wednesday July 1st, 2009 3:22:23 PM Valla attempts to converse with the mercs chasing after the halfling, seeking to draw out why they were chasing him, but only draws a hostile look from the warrior standing in front of Bosk after calling him a skub in return.
Naru further insults the mercs by calling them all skubs and even asks for payment for doing their job for them.
Lenwe chastises the mercs, in particular the half-orc archer, which infuriates them all the more, yet he mentally stands ready to cast a spell if need be. (if you are holding an action, you need to state the preconditions of such and what spell/action you are going to cast/take, otherwise it makes no difference in the sequence of combat: i.e. Holding action: if archer tries to take a shot, I cast magic missile at her.)
Padre Sixtus, introspective as always, moves across the street, perhaps to get a better view, perhaps not to get shot or blasted by an incoming attack or spell.
Xeron brushes aside the voices that speak to him, aware that the peace that he perhaps sought, would not come easily, or willingly. (Alain -- I need a googledocs character sheet from you before you can do anything in game)
Bosk uses his full stature, all of his sinewed, muscle ripped hide, to intimidate the human warrior standing before him and finds that the man becomes visibly shaken by his hulking stance. The minotaurs attempt at diplomacy however, goes unanswered.
Ariman bolsters the facts of the matter spoken by Bosk and further attempts to bring about a peaceful end to the current standoff, but it seems his words are falling on deaf ears.
The gang of 7 stood their ground, all except the human warrior standing in front of Bosk--he had taken a step back and placed his hand on his sword when Bosk towered menacingly over him mere moments ago. He was obviously visibly shaken, but he cleared his throat and addressed the group once again through gritted teeth, "Listen, we're not being paid to stand around and talk, so let me make this very clear and to the point. I'm going to count to three, if you don't hand back the halfling thief, there's going to be some ultraviolence unleashed.

What do you do? --------------------- If you are going to use a skill, such as Diplomacy, you need to roll for it and address it in the body of your post: Bosk tried to reason with them (diplomacy15)...
The enemy archer is obviously holding her action and her bow is aimed right at Bosk.
Players moving through the viscous, clingy mud do so at half their normal Movement. Running requires a Dexterity check versus DC15 or the runner slips and falls in the slippery mud. Anyone falling down requires passing another Dex check versus DC15 to stand back up again.
The gang of 7 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 - Human male wearing chain shirt, possible warrior 2 - Halfling male wearing chain shirt, possible warrior 3 - Half-orc female wearing studded leather, wielding just fired bow 4 - Human male wearing blue robes, carrying a staff 5 - Half-elf female wearing green robes 6 - Half-elf female wearing breastplate and wielding a mace 7 - Human female wearing rich clothing and being carried in a chaise-litter by two muscular half-orcs.
