With an effort, you bring yourselves back to the task at hand. There should be wyverns somewhere in these hills, but where to find them?
Based on your original research of the area, you begin heading north. Your morning is uneventful, but in the mid-afternoon, you hear what sounds like a battle quite nearby. Hurrying to investigate, you see three humans battling an immense beast. The humans are battling valiantly, but the fight does not seem to be going in their favor.
Donovan, Camlan, and Camber, you have had a tough few days. You had heard that the Windbourne Hills were the place to come for a spot of adventure, but so far you've only encountered dangers that would seriously overmatch you. You only barely managed to keep out of the way of that big wyvern a couple of days ago, and there seems to be some sort of heavily-armed troop marching around out here. And now, just as you thought you had avoided the worst of the trouble, some great beast came bursting out of the ground and attacked you!
The creature is bullet-shaped and armor-plated, with a huge, snapping maw and short, powerful legs. Donovan has already sustained a nasty bite (15 damage), and the situation looks dire.
Camlan and Myl Cal d8+5=10 ; Wednesday June 24th, 2009 12:56:51 AM
The young druid looks at the creature in disgust as his longspear comes to hand. Such an abomination! Camlan sighs at Donovan's predicament as he makes his way over to stand behind his cousin, wand and longspear in hand. He puffs a strand of jet black hair out of his face as he taps Donovan's shoulder with the wand. "If you keep this kind of thing up, Mom's wand isn't going to last long. How in the world you always manage to stumble into these kind of situations...." the tirade is cut short by another lunge from the creature. Camlan smiles as most of Donovan's wound closes up (healed for 10??)
Behind the druid, a large ape shifts anxiously as it tries to figure out what kind of strange thing has just appeared in front of it.
OOC: Kathy, Cure Light from a wand does 1d8+5 right? I think it's minimum 5th level for someone to create a wand. Let me know if I'm wrong. :)
Zeph AC19 HP 27 HeroesLoot3 d100=68 ; Wednesday June 24th, 2009 1:22:44 AM
Zeph sees the three humans fighting the large creature and immediately hops off his horse and runs to help.
Redemption and stupidity are also two sides of the same coin. Zeph thinks with a small smile as he casts Grease aimed at the monsters feet. (DC 15 or fall prone. Prone imposes -4 to melee attacks it makes, +4 to melee attacks against it. Move action to stand that imposes AOO.)
A black pool of grease explodes at the beast's feet, covering them with the slick oil (If its a large or larger creature, just have it centered on the beast so it doesn't accidentally trip anyone else).
Cambar grins as she gets ready to attack. She spent the first round getting out her sword and shield, and moving five feet on her horse. Now she moves another five feet, so that she and Donovan are flanking the thing, and she attacks.
She is guiding her horse with no hands, a Ride DC5 check, and since she is at +10 on Ride checks, she can do so as a free action with no roll needed. Similarly, she can direct her horse to make a full attack at the same time she is attacking -- a Ride DC10 check that she needs not roll.
If the monster is Medium in size or smaller, Cambar gains a +1 to hit attacking while mounted (the "higher ground" rule).
If the monster has fallen in the Grease, then it is prone, and it will be easier to hit.
Because she is flanking, Cambar inflicts sneak attack damage of +2d6. [If the monster has made its save vs Grease *and* has fewer than five ranks in Balance, then it is off balance and loses its Dex bonus to AC. This will not only make it easier to hit, but it makes it subject to Sneak Attack, if the flanking were not enough.]
Cambar and her mount's attacks are ... -- Cambar's bastard sword: a 7+2 flank = 9 - hits AC13 if foe is prone, hits AC14 if foe is medium and prone. Damage: 4 +6 SA = 10 -- Cambar's armor spikes: an 11+2 flank = 13 - hits AC17 if foe is prone, AC18 if prone and medium. Damage: 2 +6 SA = 8 -- Horse's first hoof: a 13+2 flank = 15 - hits AC19 if prone. Damage: 8 -- Horse's second hoof: a 24+2 flank = 26, 30 if prone. Damage: 5 -- Horse's bite: an 18+2 flank = 20, 24 if prone. Damage: 3

Hmark grins. "Me an' a monster an' a whole lotta air," he chuckles happily. "Just the way I like it."
The archer pulls out Red and gives Stardancer a quick tap with his knees to get the mare to stop [Ride check 21]
Rising up in the stirrups, the brown haired lad fires. His arrow whistles past Donovan's ear before slamming into the large critter. [Hit ac 32 for 7 hp damage]
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] d20+7=10 ; d8+1=8 ; Wednesday June 24th, 2009 1:45:55 PM
Rollo calls his trusty steed to a halt as he sees the battle erupt.
"I know it is early sire, but your assistance would be greatly appreciated." Rollo speaks to the aether, and a glowing fist appears clenching a equally glowing gnomish hook hammer next to the beast and it strikes.

It's mistake.
Oh, and thank your mom for me for that nice heal, I feel much better now.
Then, seeing Donovan's other cousin arrive opposite of him, he smiles widely saying: Thanks cuz for distracting this beast for me, now, lets show it what family can do when ticked off.
Swinging his greatsword with ease, arcing from his upper right across the beast, stopping just shy of the ground to it's left, Donovan watches the creatures eyes, gauging it's reaction. {hit ac26 [14+10+2]} *forgot to roll attack with flanking bonus, so added it here* {damage 18 [3+6+9]}

Zeph casts a quick spell, turning the area beneath the creatures feet into a treacherous slick. [The creature is size Huge.] It's thick legs slide a bit, but it remains standing [Reflex save 16].
Cambar moves into a flank and attacks. [The creature is Huge size, so no higher ground. Also, creatures only need to make Balance checks in a Grease spell if they try to move, and I assure you this creature is quite content to just stand there and chew on you. :)] Cambar and her horse both attack, but the creature's armor makes it very hard to hit. One of the horse's hoof strikes gets through, but that is all.
Hmark's arrow strikes true and draws blood.
Rollo casts a Spiritual Weapon, but the phantom hook hammer swings wide of its target.
Dash and his companion both attack, but neither is able to penetrate the creature's armor. Dash's charge, however, provokes an attack of opportunity from the creature's snapping jaw. The bite pierces the skin on Dash's leg for 18 points of damage.
Donovan's greatsword makes a sizeable gash in the creature's side, and it bellows in pain.
It turns and snaps at Donovan, just barely missing. [BJ, please include your character's armor class in the "post name" when we're in combat.]
Frustrated, it swipes at Donovan with a claw, and gets its revenge as the claw punches through his armor as if it were paper. [28 damage on a critical hit! ow!]
Its other claw rakes at Cambar, hitting for 11 damage.
[The creature is down 30 hp. If you can make a DC 19 Knowledge Arcana check, you know the creature is a Highlight to display spoiler: {Bulette}. Please note this is a trained-only check.]
Camlan AC18 (34/34 HP) and Myl Cal d8+1=3 ; Thursday June 25th, 2009 1:58:40 AM
Camlan is relieved as help arrives, but very worried about Donovan, even though he continues to chastise the fighter. "Donovan, you dolt, for the milionth time, it's Cambar that wears the perfume! You'd think even you could tell us apart. After all, she's the one with all that horrid metal draped over her body! Sometimes I wonder why I even bother..." Camlan reaches out and taps Donovan with the wand once more (3HP healed), though he is now very worried about the fighter's condition. His tone turns serious. "Alright, you've had you fun. Pull back so I can heal you up properly."
Eyeing the newcomers, Camlan nods appreciatively. "Your timing is excellent..." The druid is about to comment further when he spots Cambar taking a hit. "For all the trees in the Culverwood...don't make me carry you two back home in pieces!"
Rightfully intimidated by the huge creature, the ape steers clear of it...for now.
Zeph AC22 HP 27/37 ShieldHeroesLoot3 d20+5=24 ; d20+7=14 ; d100=60 ; Thursday June 25th, 2009 2:36:50 AM
Before doing anything, Zeph casts Shield to go protect himself a bit more from the creature. A floating black tower-shield-size disk floats around him
Zeph thinks hard about what kind of creature this could possibly be (Knowledge Arcana=24, yay for one skill rank!) and comes up with a good few details. "Hey guys, I read about these things a while back. It's a Bulette, aka Land Shark. It may leap into the sky to attack or it could burrow under the ground, so watch out for that. If you have spells to target it's mind then that would be the best bet, if not, then go for its reflexes. Judging by the damage it has sustained, I would say it's about one-third of the way to knocking on death's door." Zeph shouts (Any more info I would be allowed to say and not break character? Perhaps an in-character way to say the Armor Class? lol)
Zeph then moves to the first square the Bulette threatens as to not provoke an AOO from it (10-foot reach right? So I could 5-foot hop next to it next round and be within striking distance.) while drawing his Rapier.
(Knowledge Arcana check =24. Good thing I took a one skill rank in it huh? 10%failure for spell =60, I'm good. need to find a way to get rid of that though...)
(ooc: the 14 was me rolling for a concentration check to cast the spell on defensive after moving next to the monster and not provoke AOO. But then I realized I could just cast the spell first and then move into the threatened square... so no need. =)
(ooc again: Wow. Now we have 3 fighter-types and 3 druids, and I turn out to be the only arcane-caster [sorta]. And I'm multiclassed like a buffoon! What an odd/amazing group!)
Cambar (HP16 of 27 AC26) d20+1=9 ; d20=15 ; d20+8=9 ; d20+8=15 ; d20+3=21 ; d4+2=4 ; Thursday June 25th, 2009 7:23:03 AM
Cambar winces at the damage and begins to fight more carefully (fighting on the defensive means +3 AC and -4 on attacks -- now her AC is 26).
Attacks include both the flank bonus and the fighting defensively penalty: Sword misses. Armor spikes miss. Hoof 1 misses. Hoof 2 misses. Bite hits AC21 for 4.
Cambar shouts, "I sure am glad you all stopped by! This monster is pretty tough!"
Hmark(ac 18, 35/35 hp, mounted) d20+11=21 ; d20+11=17 ; d8+1=2 ; Thursday June 25th, 2009 10:07:38 AM
Hmark raises an eyebrow in response to Zeph's comments. "Just one-third? Yoiks. I'll stay back here, thanks."
Still standing in the stirrups of his mount, the archer launches two more arrows at the bulette. He watches their trajectory critically. "Hmm, wind's gusting."

Cambar and her horse continue attacking, but neither can penetrate the creature's armor. Hmark's arrows also skip off the thick armor plates.
Rollo's hook hammer misses again, but he has already moved on to calling for help from his friend Thumblbunn.
Dash attempts to cast a Bull's Strength on his companion. Unfortunately, he hasn't moved far enough away, and casting the spell provokes another Attack of Opportunity. The creatures jaws snap again for 21 points of damage. [Make a Concentration check (DC 31) or lose the spell.] Mich's attack misses.
Selemar casts a Call Lightning, and sends the first bolt hurtling at the creature. It dodges some of the damage [Reflex save 25], but some gets through.
The creature snaps at Donovan again, but misses again! It follows up with a claw, which also misses!

Zeph winces as he sees Dathish take a bite from the creature while trying to cast a spell. "The bloody thing has a 10-foot reach Dathish, watch out. Also, if anyone has any attacks or spells that could work by touch then that would be best... currently his armor plates are causing us quite the nuisance." Zeph says out loud.
First, Zeph takes his 5-foot hop to get next to the creature and flank with anyone who is on the other side of him (Its a huge creature with 3 or 4 people around him, I'm sure I can flank with someone).
Then Zeph gets in his fencing pose and delivers quite the battering with the flat of his sword on the creature's hide (Feint as a move action check =28 vs creature's sense motive. But I think I get a -4 for it being a stupid animal, so 24)
Then Zeph finishes his slapping with a delicate stab to the creature's abdomen, extending out with his thrust much like a professional fencer, hoping to hit between its plates. (Hit AC 21, forgot to add +2 for flanking. If the feint worked, then It's against the creatures Flat-Footed AC. Damage = 16, with sneak attack due to flanking)
Hmmm. I used both my spells for the day. Maybe I should try a cantrip next? Zeph thinks
(ooc: The second d20+7 was accident... shoddy internet connection and I pressed the button again b/c it wouldn't load. Also, sorry I didn't list my spells prepared for the day. If I don't say otherwise, then I prepare Grease and Shield for 1st level and then Touch of Fatigue, Read Magic, Detect Magic, and Mage Hand for cantrips. )
Dathish [HP32/50) AC:18 Friday June 26th, 2009 3:00:00 AM
OOC:Kathy, I wasn't casting the spell on Mich, I cast it on myself. I gave the bonus to mich because we share spells. If I cast it on myself it effects my animal companion aswell. Also a five foot step dosn't provoke a attack of opportunity, I wasn't next to the bullet when I cast the spell, ergo no attack of opportunity.
Cambar (HP16 of 27 AC26) d20+1=10 ; d20=15 ; d20+8=17 ; d20+8=28 ; d20+8=14 ; d20+3=5 ; d6+4=9 ; Friday June 26th, 2009 7:19:38 AM
Cambar keeps fighting, defensively. Against a high-AC foe like this she has little chance of hitting, but it's better than nothing.
Her other choice might be to withdraw and then charge. She looks over the situation -- could she even charge it, given the press of bodies all around? [Kathy, is that a reasonable thing to try, or no, does Cambar think?]
This round:
Attacks include both the flank bonus and the fighting defensively penalty: Sword misses. Armor spikes miss. Hoof 1 misses. Hoof 2 crit threats with a nat 20, but fails in the follow up. Still hits for 9 hp damage, though. Bite misses.
She sees that Donovan missed a chance to attack, probably stunned by taking so much damage. "Donovan!" she shouts. "Keep fighting! Or pull back! Don't just stand there!"
Hmark(ac 18, 35/35 hp, mounted) d20+14=21 ; d20+6=17 ; Friday June 26th, 2009 8:37:06 AM
Hmark frowns as his arrow 'pings' off the armored side of the creature. "Shoot" he grumbles.
Dropping back in the saddle, he urges Stardancer forward with his knees while simultaneously pulling an arrow from the second of the two quivers on his back [Ride check 17 - going to +1 arrows, previous were normal]
Once Stardancer closes the range [30'], the archer draws, pauses a second to actually aim, and fires one arrow. But as the creature moves about, it again changes the angle, and Hmark's arrow ricochets away. [ac 21 - miss again]
DM Kathy [supplemental] Friday June 26th, 2009 11:49:45 AM Dash - You provoked an attack of opportunity by casting a spell. The 5-foot step did not provoke. in 3.5, you can provoke an AoO anywhere in a creature's threatened area. Or, to put it in 4th-Edition terms, everything in 3.5 has Threatening Reach. This critter has a 15-foot reach, and you were only 5 feet away.
Cambar, you could back up and charge without tangling yourself in your companions, but that 15-foot reach is going to make it a painful strategy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Monster Manual says it has a 10-foot reach. In the Space/Reach column it says 15/10 respectively. I know MOST huge sized creatures have 15foot reach... but I can see this guy having 10-foot what with it being a quadruped with stubby legs.
But yeah, still an AOO for Dathish though. Although, the creature does ONLY get ONE AOO per round, meaning anyone else can back up scott free atm.

"Since you're too stubborn, guess I'll go patch up Sis..." Having done what he could for Donovan, Camlan takes the loooong way around the creature (no AoO's for me, please) and works his way behind Cambar.
The large ape watches the monster with curiosity. Normally he would have entered the fight by now, but he couldn't figure out how to get a hold of that strange looking creature.

Zeph shifts into flank, and attempts to feint the creature into a mistake. The Bulette isn't fooled, however, so Zeph's follow-up strike just misses. [Sense Motive 30. If it makes you feel better, you sucked up a nat 20 that could have been a critical hit.]
Cambar continues fighting defensively, which means she has little chance of hurting the creature. Her horse gets in a lucky hoof strike, but everything else misses.
Hmark fires another good shot that comes just short of piercing the armor plates.
Rollo's ghostly hook hammer and very real badger miss, but he's calling more friends to the party.
Dash's anger gives purpose to his sword arm and he lands a solid blow.
Bleeding from his wounds, Donovan hangs in and lands another ferocious hit.
Camlan protects her cousin with a spell before retreating a step.
Garrett carefully lines up his sling and let fly. Unbelievably, the little sling stone thumps the creature right in the eye. With a bellow of equal parts pain and surprise, the beast collapses to the ground.
Combat is over.
Zeph AC22 HP 27/37 ShieldHeroesLoot3 Monday June 29th, 2009 1:12:55 AM Well... that thing sure had my number. Maybe trying to fool an opponent in combat is only an attempt to make up for the lack of brute strength. Zeph thinks as he looks at the large and muscular Donovan and Dathish standing next to him and towering over him in stature and frame.
He looks up at Donovan, Cambar, and Camlan and extends his hand to each. "My name is Zeph, from Jarlwolf in the Valley. Any reason you guys venturing through these hills?" he says politely with a slight smile. Zeph also pauses slightly to look from Camlan to Cambar a second time, noting their similar appearances... and then he shrugs, thinking nothing of it.
Useful in combat and not too bad to look at. Wonder if she has a good head on her shoulders. Zeph thinks
With that, Zeph begins to examine the monster and takes out a quill, ink, and parchment, and begins making a sketch of it of it, noting its weak points and combat tactics.
If anyone cares for an introductory description - Zeph is 5'10'', Black, slightly long, wavy hair. Green eyes. Medium build, with a slightly sharper facial features and looks rather young. He is currently rather scruffy and unkempt, and still has flakes of blood in his hair from a recent head injury. He wears a dark tunic over mithril chain shirt with an under shirt that reads "Jesus Saves, Everyone else takes 4d6 damage." He has finely crafted leather gloves and leather belt with several weapons attached to it.
Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:22 HP:25/25] Monday June 29th, 2009 8:01:46 AM
Garret smiles and sits down on the edge of the hill from where he had fired his sling. He can't help but smile as he swings his short legs as he looks over the battle scene.
------
An average size halfling, Garret is noticed mostly by the fact he's unnoticeable. He does not stand out in appearance at all, and in a crowd disappears more than normal due to his small size. His voice is quiet, steady, and even. His black hair is nearly always up in a topknot, sticking up about 4 inches, with the sides of his head shaved. On the sides of his head, and leading across to his eyes, there are various dark but colorful tattoos. He travels light, so is seldom seen with much gear. He is usually seen with tan leather pants that end just above his ankles and no shirt, showing his furry body. Around his waist is a rope belt with a couple small pouches hanging off of them, one heavy with small rocks. He is seldom without his sling, either in his hand or on his belt. On his back is a small backpack, clearly far from full.
Hmark(ac 18, 35/35 hp, mounted) Monday June 29th, 2009 8:48:58 AM
Hmark's playful banter disappears in the face of three consecutive misses. His teeth grind in frustration as his third arrow bounces off the creature's armor. Then Garret's stone flies, strikes it in the EYE!, and brings it down.....
The archer's mouth drops open for a moment or two. Then he throws his head back, and his arms wide, and yells heavenward - "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????"
Having expelled his frustration, the brown haired, brown eyed man takes a moment to compose himself, rubbing a hand across his whisker covered chin. He gives Stardancer a nudge, riding toward the group. As he passes Garret, he gives the halfling a nod. "Nice shot," he compliments genuinely.
Reaching the group, he dismounts, and looks over the bulette. "Big sucker," he observes, before turning to the three strangers. "I'm Hmark"
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] Monday June 29th, 2009 12:45:42 PM
Rollo lets out a laugh as the creature falls from Garret's well placed shot.
"Well, done. We should remember that tactic for the future."
Rollo thanks Eberyon for his aid, and bids farewell to his friends before they return to the their home realms.
"Well, we should probably find a nice place to set camp, we don't look to be in any condition to continue our journey today. It will give us a chance to get to know our new friends, if they are not to busy with journeys of their own that is?"
Cambar (HP16 of 27 AC26) d20+4=15 ; Monday June 29th, 2009 1:49:38 PM
Cambar shouts, "Hooray!" as the beast falls to the ground. She grins broadly and looks around for the first time, checking on her brother and cousin, then looking at the people who came in at just the right time.
The dark-haired woman swings out of the saddle, leading her horse away from the corpse. She looses her tower shield and puts her bastard sword away. She turns to greet these new folks, several of whom rush up to say hello.
Cambar answers in kind. "Hi! I'm Cambar Grithlough, and this is my twin brother, Camlan, and our cousin, Donovan. Thank you for coming to our aid. That beastie was tough!"
She wipes some of the blood off her spiked plate armor. Observers might see the emblem she wears -- a blue pin carved with stylized letters: W-L-A.
To Zeph, Cambar says, "We're from the Cinnamon Valley too. Just south of Merrydale." She tries to remember anything she may have heard about Zeph and his friends: Know Local 15.
To Rollo, she says, "Many thanks! I think we would love to camp with you. We have no pressing business." But she looks at Camlan and Donovan to confirm what she just said.
Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:22 HP:25/25] Monday June 29th, 2009 3:31:52 PM
When Hmark walks by, Garret's grin only grows larger and he waves to Hmark. He nods and waves to Rollo as well. He says out loud, mostly to himself, "I may not hit hard, but I make my hits count."
Selemar [ac 18 hp 14/23] Monday June 29th, 2009 11:06:18 PM
"i must consider the benefits of slings in the future."
Selemar is shorter than most of the rest, being an elf. he is thin, with dark hair and bright silver eyes. he carries a sword and bow, but obviously seems to prefer other strategies. next to him is a bear, also with dark hair, though no weapons.
DM Kathy Tuesday June 30th, 2009 12:06:30 AM
Now that you are out of danger, you introduce yourselves. An offer is made to share a campsite this evening, and tentatively accepted.
The battle took place mid-afternoon. Since this is high summer, you have several more hours of daylight before you need to make camp. And, since this thing is beginning to smell, it might not be a bad idea to spend some of those hours getting away from this area.
But in which direction? Perhaps your new companions have some suggestions.
Zeph AC22 HP 27/37 ShieldHeroesLoot3 Tuesday June 30th, 2009 1:38:38 AM
Zeph pauses when he sees the badges on Cambar and Camlan that have the big W.L.A. initials and raises an eyebrow, I'll ask later Zeph thinks
"Merrydale?" Zeph says rather abruptly, looking up at Cambar sharply. Zeph's eyes seem to lose focus and he appears to be lost in deep thought for a second. Then Zeph quickly regains his cool, and shakes his head and clears his thought. "Uhrm. I actually... I attended school in Merrydale for some time in my youth. Until I was about 8 years old actually. I still remember the schoolmarm, Miss Ammebelle. I was a bit of a trouble-maker. I actually lived west of the Faerie Trail believe it or not. But then I moved to Jarlwolf... anyways, enough about me. What are you guys doing in the hills? And more importantly... did yall happen to see any winged creatures around?" Zeph says politely as he hops back on his horse, Shadow, and begins traveling north again.
It would be odd if I knew them at that time... although I don't remember too much about those days... well... except a few things. Zeph thinks to himself, getting quiet and lost in his thoughts about the past. His eyes narrow a bit at this point. Zeph looks down at the black and red viper ,that is his pet, who is currently wrapping itself around his wrist. Sliver flicks his silver tongue at Zeph.
Also, one more thing I forgot to put in Zeph's appearance - he has some earrings he got from the hawkmen. A braided copper loop in his left ear and a silver and black lightning bolt in the top of his right.
Hmark(ac 18, 35/35 hp, mounted) Tuesday June 30th, 2009 3:43:22 PM
Hmark grins back at Garret as he rides by. He reaches the group just as Zeph is finishing his introduction.
"I'm near Magpie Crossing, myself," he throws in. "Fancy running into you all way the blazes out here."
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] Tuesday June 30th, 2009 9:08:24 PM
Rollo helps set camp and waits to hear the new comers answers to Zeph's inquiries.
Cambar (HP16 of 27 AC26) Tuesday June 30th, 2009 9:26:24 PM
Cambar compares notes with Zeph, if he is willing. It turns out that Zeph is two years older than Cambar and Camlan. The twins were only six when Zeph left Merrydale.
"Sorry I don't remember you," the armored girl says. "But Miss Ammebelle is still the schoolmarm. Camlan was her favorite though, not me. I was too fidgety."
"I don't think we've seen any winged things. We're just here following impulse and instinct."
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] Tuesday June 30th, 2009 9:29:06 PM "To be more specific, we're looking for a Wyvern?"
DM Kathy Wednesday July 1st, 2009 12:39:19 AM Cambar does remember hearing something about a new adventuring group in the Valley, now that the Swords of Light have left. Not much is known of this new group, though; in fact, there are many who doubt they even exist. [Sorry; meant to give you that yesterday]
You continue comparing notes as you seek out the perfect campsite. Not knowing where else to head, you move downhill from where you fought the bulette, and are rewarded with a sandy site near a little stream. It will be a bit cramped with the animals, but water will be plentiful and you will be partially concealed by the steep embankment.
Dathish [HP20/50], AC:18 d8+4=9 ; Wednesday July 1st, 2009 12:58:23 AM
After the battle Dathish sighs the battle suddenly brought on the wearyness and strain brought on by the past few days. Not to mention the viscus wounds the beast inflicted apon him. Unsure as to how to interduce himself amongst humans he tends to his wolf and casts a spell of healing apon himself. He will do more than his share of helping make camp, eventully intruduceing himself to the travlers as Dathish, a membor of the druidic circle. OOC: This is my last day for a while, make sure my sub posts for me.
Selemar [ac 18 hp 23/23] d8+5=9 ; Wednesday July 1st, 2009 1:42:52 AM
Selemar doesn't have much to add, not having grown up by them, and having finished his early education before Miss Ammebelle was born. he tries to be friendly, but probably is closer to awkward
Selemar [ac 18 hp 23/23] Wednesday July 1st, 2009 1:43:13 AM
oh, and he healed himself again
Camlan AC18 (34/34 HP) and Myl Cal Wednesday July 1st, 2009 1:50:00 AM
Relieved that the battle is over, Camlan smiles and politely introduces himself to the group, but lets Cambar do all the talking...as usual. Noting all the animal companions in the group, Camlan grins...kindred spirits no doubt. Perhaps this adventuring thing might not be so bad after all.
But first thing is first... Once the group has found the site, Camlan calls Cambar and Donovan over. "Alright you two..." Camlan's tone is authoritative...almost mothering. "Let's see those wounds. Yes Donovan, I mean NOW!" Camlan reaches into his pack and pulls out a small bar of soap. He begins to thoroughly scrub the wounds as he lectures his relatives. "It's a popular misconception that blood loss is a warrior's worst enemy... Actually..." scrub, scrub "It's infection..." pick, pick "You see, there are small little creatures..." bind bind "That get into the wound...don't you roll your eyes at me. I swear, the way you two throw your bodies into the enemy, I should have been a cleric..." Camlan's eyes flick toward Cambar "Would have broke her heart though, not following the druids path..." The lecture continues until all of Cambar and Donovan's wounds are cleaned and bound. Finally satisfied that his work is done, Camlan sets about preparing for the nights rest. He makes sure that Cambar and Donovan have their rations and that the area is free of vermin. As he is finishing up, Camlan relaxes with Myl Cal, grooming the ape as he carefully examines the other animals in the group... the agil power of Zeph's snake...the raw power of Selemar's bear... the cunning purposeful movements of Dathish's wolf. Camlan's keen eyes watch every motion of the animals...analyzing...memorizing...always learning. He is so involved in his mental preoccupations, that he mostly tunes out the conversations going on around him. He does, however take an instant liking to the quiet Dathish. Calling him over, Camlan asks to examine his wounds (he will not insist on doing so as he did with his relatives). If allowed, he will clean the druid's wounds and engage him in some light conversation about his wolf.
OOC: Sorry about the missed posts...got caught up in some of my DM duties.
Cambar (HP16 of 27 AC26) Wednesday July 1st, 2009 6:10:35 AM
Submitting to Camlan's ministrations with a grin and good grace, Cambar smiles and says, "Thanks, big brother." That's a little joke, since the twin are the same age and size. Cambar does look at Donovan carefully. He's been quieter than usual.
Then she throws herself into camp preparation, making a fire, gathering wood, etc. She volunteers for either the twilight or the dawn watch.
"So, why are you all wyvern hunting?" she asks.
Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:22 HP:25/25] Wednesday July 1st, 2009 7:53:13 AM
Garret follows along to camp, saying little. He watches closely with interest as Camlan talks about cleaning the wounds. He squints his eyes trying to spot the small little creatures that are being washed out of the wound.
Hmark Wednesday July 1st, 2009 3:50:46 PM
Hmark takes care of Stardancer the way Kiel had taught him, occasionally pausing in mid-brush stroke and falling into a pensive look. Soon enough, though, the young man is done and joins the group in time to hear Cambar's question.
He glances at Zeph while replying, "Its a job...er, quest...er, thingy."
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] Wednesday July 1st, 2009 5:27:38 PM
Rollo let's Cornelius find a comfy spot and heads over to the others. "The key to avoiding infection is leave the healing to faith not fate. Mind if I take a look at those wounds?"
Cambar (HP16 of 27 AC26) Wednesday July 1st, 2009 9:52:57 PM
Cambar bows to Rollo. "Oh, this scratch? It'll be mostly fine by morning. But I know better than to say no to a man of the cloth! Please, good sir, I am at your service."
Cambar says to Hmark, "A quest! Great! How did you learn of this quest?"
Zeph AC19 HP 27/37 HeroesLoot3 Thursday July 2nd, 2009 12:05:54 AM
Zeph thinks for a moment on how to approach these three with the job/quest that the group received. Well. We certainly can't be too hasty. They claim that they are in the hills for impulse and instinct. Suspicious?
Zeph looks at Garret and back to Cambar and then briefly to the Lead box in Rollo's backpack. "Well, I'll tell you this: There is a great evil that is threatening the entire Valley. If we don't put an end to it, all of our loved ones are likely to parish. We need to kill a Wyvern to collect its tail poison to destroy this evil. And... well, we would be grateful for your help... I also have a sneaky suspicion that there is another group much more sinister than ourselves looking to kill us and make this great evil happen by any means necessary. If you would join us... you will be target for assassination as we all have been. I will tell you more specifics when we know we can trust you. " Zeph says the last couple sentences very slowly - hoping that Cambar and her companions understand the risk and why they cannot trust them fully yet.
DM Kathy Thursday July 2nd, 2009 12:10:53 AM
Your camp established, you begin treating your wounds and exchanging information. Hmark lets slip that the group is on a quest, and Zeph elaborates a little. The group is searching for a wyvern.
Camber, Camlan, and Donovan, just in case you missed it the first time, you guys spent a full day trying to avoid a wyvern that you saw.
Cambar (HP16 of 27 AC26) Thursday July 2nd, 2009 1:06:39 AM
"Hey, wait! A wyvern! Oh, a wyvern! Wait, we saw a wyvern! Didn't we, oh my kin?"
"Sure we did. Now I remember! It was over that-aways."
The warrior points to the direction she remembers best.
"Sure, we'd be happy to help! Right, Camlan?"
She looks puzzled at Donovan, though. Why is he so quiet?
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] Thursday July 2nd, 2009 2:00:29 AM
(ooc note: Rollo does not appear to be wearing a backpack)
Selemar [ac 18 hp 23/23] Thursday July 2nd, 2009 2:25:46 AM
looks in the general direction where hte wyvern might be.
"um, when did you see a wyvern? I expect they might move quickly..."
Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:22 HP:25/25] Thursday July 2nd, 2009 9:21:50 AM
Garret also turns in the direction indicated and says, "You saw one? How far away was it? Why didn't it kill you, or at least follow you and kill you later?"
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] 3d8+5=19 ; d8+5=8 ; d8+5=8 ; Thursday July 2nd, 2009 3:36:09 PM "Scratch? Man? Cloth? You are far worse then you let on, I will ask Eberyon for aid for you and your brother before the delirium deepens futher."
Rollo trades out Bestow Curse for Cure Serious Wounds and Summon Monster I for Cure Light wounds using both on Donavan. Then uses his pearl of power to recast CLW on Cambar.)
(Heals Donavan for 27, and Cambar for 8)
Rollo looks to Camlan to confirm the wyvern story as his brothers seem to be delirious.
Cambar (HP24 of 27 AC26) Thursday July 2nd, 2009 4:46:43 PM
Cambar grins when she gets the cure spell. "Many thanks to you, sir!"
She laughs. "And by the way, I'm a girl. Camlan is my brother, and Donovan is our cousin."
Then she tells everything she remembers about the wyvern.
Rollo[AC:21 HP:42/42] Thursday July 2nd, 2009 6:56:05 PM
(ooc: I will admit I am totally confused as to the gender and description of all the new comers especially with the names being extremely similar, but to be fair I never called you a boy except in my action line. :) )
Cambar (HP24 of 27 AC26) Thursday July 2nd, 2009 8:30:52 PM
No problem! :-)
Should I mention that Cambar and her brother are identical twins?!
LOL!
Zeph AC19 HP 37/37 HeroesLoot3 Thursday July 2nd, 2009 10:04:09 PM
(ooc: Identical twins but one is a boy and one is a girl. There must be some differences in how you look. I assume they are good-looking individuals though. =)
Zeph's eyes open up when Cambar mentions the direction of the Wyvern.
"Well. Wyvern hunting is what we are currently doing. Lets get to it once we are well rested and we have spells prepared for combat. Just make sure that you guys are sure about your decision. It will be very very dangerous." Zeph says with a bit of a smile at the idea.
Camlan AC18 (34/34 HP) and Myl Cal Friday July 3rd, 2009 12:22:02 AM
Camlan smiles at Rollo, having a great respect for clerics. He nods solemnly. "Yes, the wyvern chased us all day. I'm not sure exactly why it left us alone." The druid looks around at his new companions, analyzing the situation. "As a band of three, the beast was too much for us, but with you..." their is a faint smile on his lips. "Well, that evens up the score a bit, doesn't it?!"
Camlan looks over at Donovan, mirroring Cambar's questioning look. Donovan had been very quiet for a very long time now. Normally that meant that he was either dying or eating. Concerned, Camlan examines the warriors wounds once more.
DM Kathy Friday July 3rd, 2009 1:17:49 AM
The meeting of your two groups seems fortuitous indeed, since the cousins encountered a wyvern recently. Once your wounds are tended, you eat a hearty trail supper, then seek your rest. The night is uneventful.
The skies are perfectly clear the next morning, with the promise of a warm day to come. As always, though, a light breeze blows over the hills, keeping the region from getting too hot. Today will be perfect weather for travelling--or taking on a wyvern.
Selemar [ac 18 hp 23/23] Friday July 3rd, 2009 10:08:00 PM
Prepares spells, gets the bear out of a tree with berries, and is ready to go
Cambar (HP23 of 27 AC26) Friday July 3rd, 2009 10:09:29 PM
Cambar wakes up refreshed and full of energy. "What a beautiful day!" she exclaims. "Pass my thanks along to Mother Wold, Camlan! And to your good master, new friend Rollo! With the two of you in the group, not to mention our other nature lovers, I bet we'll have nice weather more often than not!"
After waking, out of armor and not wearing her fighting gear, Cambar indeed does look a lot like her brother. Maybe she's a little battle-hardened for a girl. Maybe his good cooking has put a bit of roundness on Camlan. Both have a little of the elfish look -- "That's from dad's side of the family." But after she's armored up and ready with tower shield and lance, it's easy to tell the twins apart.
[OOC: I've taken the liberty of adding 4 hp of healing after a good night's rest, right? Well, three, since I was only down by three.]
Garret Goodbarrel [ AC:22 HP:25/25] Saturday July 4th, 2009 8:58:12 AM
Garret sleeps lightly, watches and observes the twins, trying to find ways to tell them apart.
