LOL!! I wasn't thinking at all last night and screwed up the bugbears attacks. Oh well.
Wynum takes up his bow once more and fires two shots up onto the shelf. He is rewarded by hearing two howls of pain. Not having an effective range weapon herself, Revi moves in front of Wynum to act as his shield.
Edmund casts his spell in order to facilitate communication. He moves back toward the forest and begins thinking sneaky thoughts. (OOC: Let's try and keep the on board OOC's to a minimum. Email works better and is faster. :) )
Thar moves back to the woods and applies first aid to Arashi's wounds. The wolf growls a bit, but looks thankful for as Thar removes the arrow from its flank.
The archers continue their onslaught, but this time their fire is more focused. Edmund and Thar find all of the arrows headed their way. Edmund is hit by two arrows (AC23 for 5, AC26/9 for 8). All the rest of the arrows miss their mark.
OOC: Just a reminder to make sure we're all on the same page. To cross the 60 foot long scree slope you'll move at ½ move rate. Running is not possible. Wynum is the only one who needs to make a Balance check (DC10 or prone). Climbing up the cliff will require two Climb checks.

((OOC: I don't have a list of e-mail addresses with corresponding names. Is there a place I can go to look up someone's e-mail address here?))
Edmund is thinking quickly, and busily discussing things with Julian, when he suddenly feels a searing pain in his leg. As he reaches down to figure out what has happened, he is rewarded with an identical feeling in his arm. Looking down at the two arrows which have made their way through his magical armour and his clothing, his eyes widen considerably and his face goes rather ashen.
"I-I've been shot!" he exclaims into the Message spell as Julian arrives.
Edmund is quite thin and lanky, and a slash from an arrow in an earlier engagement had left him somewhat injured already. Now, the blood loss from this theatens to do him in. It is unlikely Edmund can survive another sustained onslaught. Being intelligent--and also occupied with his own self-preservation--the wizard realises this.
"Going to have to wait a moment, Julian," he says to the halfling. "But I suggest you get yourself ready and cast any sort of protection or assault spells you have ready. If you'll give me thirty seconds (3 rounds) I can put you up on top of that cliff where-ever you like. Anywhere you want. In range, out of range, right on top of them, right above them. You name it."
"Now, for my latest trick," the wizard says, "I'm going to disappear. Stay right around here. You don't need to be next to me, just nearby. And try to avoid getting hit with arrows!" To the Message spell, he says, "Invisibility time. Going to put Julian up on top of the cliff. If any of you can help prepare him for his little trip, suggest you come down here to the forest's edge and assist him. Time is short."
With a wave of his hands and a few strange words, Edmund vanishes from sight! He then proceeds to move further into the forest, but at a right angle to the cliff. (...in other words, not away from the cliff, but along it. Edmund is now totally concealed and the bugbears no longer have line of sight.)

OOC: Ed, great idea with the triangle, but there's a small problem..the 60' part is a SLOPE, so therefore (dot dot dot) the triangle is not a RIGHT triangle and the Pythagorean Theory would not apply. Am I right or has it been too long since my last geometry class? lol :)

As the arrows continue to fall, the Mithril Order works on various plans to rid themselves of the archers...
Ruby climbs up to get a better bead on the bugbears. She finds a suitable tree and shimmies up it. (OOC: I'm assuming that Ruby is trying to perform accelerated climbing at ½ move rate DC 15. If not, let me know). She makes it up about 30 feet.
Edmund disappears from view and tells Julian to get ready. Julian tries to cast a spell, but fumbles it.
Wynum stubbornly stands his ground and fires at the bugbears once more. There is another couple of grunts and Wynum watches as they hit the ground. He also spots two more come forward and take their place.
Revi manages to cross the scree slope (remember... ½ move rate through the scree) and makes it to the base of the cliff. She can begin climbing it next round. (OOC: Climb DC 20.) Thar joins her at the base of the cliff and prepares to begin climbing, though he's beginning to think maybe he should have had a heart to heart with Ruby before engaging in such a dangerous activity! (OOC: Ummm...you can't climb and be in Total Defense. :( Also, once you begin climbing, you loose your Dexterity bonus to your AC. Sorry! For my climbers, remember that climbing you move at ¼ your move rate. So if your base speed is 30, then you can do a double move and cover 60/4=15 feet per round. You can also attempt an accelerated climb by taking a -5 penalty. You are then allowed to move at ½ move rate. So with accelerated climbing with a base speed of 30, you can cover 60/2=30 feet per round.
**To speed this up, I'm going to say that the shelf is 50 feet above the base. Sooo, that would be 3 rounds of regular climbing, or 2 of accelerated climbing). That also means that if you wish to shoot, there are no longer range penalties.**
Arm continues to sing, encouraging his comrades to great feats of bravery (Yep on the 5 rounds afterward).
Shadow also takes up a position and fires up onto the shelf. He too hears a grunt of pain.
The bugbear archers growl in anger as Edmund disappears, and turn their sights on the archers who has taken down two of their own. Half of them take aim on Wynum, and the other half on Shadow. Though a few miss their mark, several of the archers hit Wynum full on (5 hits for 29 damage). (OOC: I show Shadows AC at 20 with the +1 leather armor and the Ring of Prot. ...not sure where you're getting the 24 from). Shadow fairs somewhat better, and only gets hit two times (16 damage).
Meanwhile, several streaks of light flash from the cliff shelf and come ripping toward Thar and Revi. Thar takes 15 pts. damage from the bolts and Revi takes 19 damage.

Reeling from the effects of the attack, Revi and Thar move off the scree slope (remember, there is **no** running on the slope area). Revi gets about 20 foot into the forest, and Thar makes it to the edge of the forest.
Arm continues singing and edges his way slooooowly toward the cliff face.
Both Wynum and Shadow retreat back into the forest. Wynum looks to be in a bit of a bad spot after the last attack. He does his best to figure out where Edmund got off to, but it's a little more difficult due to the fact that the mage is invisible. On the bright side, there is the continual muttering of arcane words to help guide Wynum in the right general direction.
Edmund repeats the incredibly long incantation required to summon a bit of magical help as Julian casts a spell of his own...successfully this time.
Ruby heads further into the tree and is able to gain a small measure of altitude above the shelf (she's now at 60 foot in the tree). She has an excellent view of the eight bugbear archers lined up on the edge. She also sees two fallen bodies and two other bugbears anxiously waiting their turn to shoot. Scooting around several branches, she finds a spot which allows her a bit of cover (+4AC). However, Ruby knows that it will be a bit delicate to keep her balance once she has her weapon in hand. (OOC: Balance check DC15 while shooting from the tree. If you roll below 10, you fall off your perch and take 6d6 damage)
Seeing that all the other targets have retreated to the woods, the bugbears howl with glee as Arm heads their way singing a merry tune no doubt! All eight archers sight in on him and let loose. Fortunately, only two arrows are able to connect (15 pts. dam).

Edmund looks at the floating light--which happens to be a Lantern Archon (MM 16)--and gives it a series of complicated instructions and descriptions of the nearby cliff. Whilst Edmund is carrying on, the light bobs and turns about, as if it is looking at the cliff.
After he has done this, Edmund casts 'Greater Invisibility' on Julian. Now the halfing is tiny and invisible--and will remain so even if he attacks. ((Don't forget to modify your AC! There's also +2 vs. Evil from being near the Archon.))
"Alright," Edmund says to the Lantern Archon. "Now!"
The Lantern Archon glides over towards invisible Julian and then blinks out of sight through the use of Greater Teleport. If Julian had not been invisible, he would also have vanished--because the Archon teleports the halfling as well. They materialise on top of the cliff, 200 feet up, about fifteen feet behind the bugbears. Julian, of course, is invisible the entire time.
The Lantern Archon focuses on the bugbears and glows brightly with anger. An Aura of Menace emanates from it, in addition to the effects of Magic Circle Against Evil. Julian finds himself strengthened (+2 to AC vs. Evil, +2 to Saves vs. Evil) whilst evil enemies find themselves threatened by the menacing aura (Will Save DC 12 or -2 to Attacks, -2 to AC, and -2 to Saves for twenty four hours.)

Errr....Edmund, in your post, you state that the archon is 200 feet above the shelf. The aura of menace only extends 20 feet in diameter. I'm confused. Do you want the archon 200 or 20 feet above the feet of the bugbears? I need to know before I can put my DM post up. Also, I wanted to remind you that I changed the area where the bugbear archers are located to 50 feet above the ground, not 200 as was stated before.

Edmund (HP: 19/44, AC: 17) Mage Armoured, Messaging, Invisible Thursday June 25th, 2009 1:26:20 AM
OOC: Julian is correct. I was under the impression the Bugbears were at the top of a 200-foot cliff.
Though it would be temporarily amusing for the archon to appear 250 up in the air, leaving Julian with an eventful drop to the bugbears, this might also leave Julian a little the worse for wear upon his spectacular invisible landing. So, the archon (with Julian in tow) will appear about fifteen feet behind the Bugbears, whatever height they are at.

The Order falls back and regroups after the onslaught from the archers.
Revi moves behind a nearby tree and plinks off a round. Though she is a bit out of range, she still hears a bugbear growl in pain.
Arm pulls back to the tree line. He is now all too aware how dangerous the inept archers can occasionally be.
Wynum regroups (LOL! Forgot the See Invis!) and seeks out Thar. His bloodied flank testifies to his need for healing, but Thar seems to have other ideas. Finding a spot near Ruby, Thar begins to climb into a nearby tree. He finds it a relatively easy task to shimmy up about 15 feet. (OOC: The climb DC is 15. You can perform an accelerated climb with a -5 penalty if you wish to climb 30 feet per round.) Shadow likes the idea and searches out another tree. He finds one relatively close by (say 10 feet).
Ruby, having secured her perch, brings up her bow and pulls back for her shot...which unfortunately throws her off balance. The arrow shatters against the rock cliff face harmlessly. Somehow Ruby is able to keep herself in the tree, though she does make a good deal of racket in the process...but the bugbears have other things to worry about...
While Julian shrinks himself, Edmund makes the diminished Halfling invisible and then directs the archon to teleport him to the shelf. The creature disappears with a poof, and then reappears on the shelf directly behind the archers. Its aura radiates from its glowing orb body. It's hard for those on the ground to tell what may be going on up on the shelf, but Ruby can tell that about half of the archers are visibly shaken by the aura. Julian lands on the shelf right behind the archers. He's invisible and tiny...and ready to kick some booty! (Robert, remember to adjust your damage for the loss in strength (-2), and the tiny sized weapons. Also, don't forget the +2 to Dex and +1 to attacks and AC)
Ruby and Julian sees the rear two archers (B9 &B10) spin around and take bead on the floating blob of light. While one of the shots misses the archon, the other spears it and the creature disappears with a wink of warm light. Ruby and Julian notice that the bugbears appear quite a bit more confident after its disappearance (Aura of menace effects end when the creature dies...really nice spell though!! Way to go!!) The other eight archers return their concentration to the retreating Arm and give him a parting gift...namely an arrow in the butt (11 damage). Julian hears them laughing at the arrow bobbing and takes in the horrid stench of bugbear BO.

Julian takes a look around and thinks to himself, "Oh my gods! It's like I've died and gone to Valhalla! Praise Domi! Praise Domi!" He dismisses the Reduce Person spell with a thought, not that anyone can see it, and lines up B3 carefully. The halfling lashes out at the bugbear with all the fury of a Barghest the morning after a long night drinking. He bites his tongue so as to not scream out (perhaps his last rational thought for a while) and his own blood trickles from his lips. He then quietly takes a 5 foot step across to O3. ((OOC: Thanks for the compliments! I'm very, very proud of my plan, and it will likely be one of the high points of my D&D gaming, provided it doesn't get Julian killed.))
With Julian sent to a better place, Edmund watches as the Archon is dispatched with ease by the bugbears. Of course, the mage knew this was going to happen, but he cannot help but feel guilty for sending the summoned creature to its death.
Edmund then realises that he doesn't know how to get Julian down. As he is turning over this worrying thought in his mind, he notices some commotion up on the ledge, and expects Julian is having at it.
"Good work, Julian!" Edmund says into the Message spell. "You show 'em!"
Turning his attention to the rest of the members of the order, Edmund thinks it might be time to engage again.
"Julian is certainly going to have them busy enough up there," Edmund says into the Message. "Why don't we try to take some of the heat off of him, whilst he is taking it off of us. Is anyone in need of a crossbow?"
Already beginning to formulate a new plan, Edmund surveys the area.
((OOC: DM, concerning Edmund's current position, does the forest continue running north (as it does part-way on the map) all the way up to the cliff wall, or does it turn into Scree at some point north of where the forest goes up to on the map? The area I am referring to is from AC-1 to AE-8; where the key is.))

Wynum does some fancy stepping and moves, fires and then moves out of the way again. His arrow strikes true, and Wynum hears a distant growl of pain.
Shadow does his best to climb up the tree, but it proves too difficult for him. Kinda makes him wish he'd paid more attention in Wolidian Scouts as a youth. ;)
Thar slides back down the tree and helps heal up Wynum, who looks much better now.
Revi lines up a couple of shots, but they ping harmlessly off the bugbears armor. (DM Note...if you look at the Elevation guide tab on the bottom of the map, Florian (who is far, far superior in his mathematical skill to moi) has done the calculations. With the 45 degree angle, Revi is 125 feet away...so still a -2 penalty either way.)
Ruby has a better time, due to her increased elevation, and sticks a couple of arrows into one of the bugbear's neck (B8).
Edmund smiles at his handy work and begins hatching further plans. Devilishly cunning and ingenious plans. (OOC: On the map, I'm lazy. I wanted it to fit on one screen. The scree extends out 60 feet on the east as well and is edged by the forest. Hope that answers your question.)
Up on the ledge, the tiny, invisible Julian whips himself into a rage and lashes out at the nearest bugbear (B4). He misses with his first attack, but connects with his second. He then moves away. Growling in anger, the wounded bugbear drops his bow and spins with his Morningstar coming to hand out of instinct (sorry, there's no AoO for drawing a weapon). His big, ugly nose snuffles in the air, the creature turns to face where Julian is standing and smashes down his weapon. "Hey, there's an enemy over here!" he calls to his buddies, who likewise spin to face the invisible Julian. With snuffling noses and evil grins on their faces, the bugbears also drop their bows and pull out their wicked looking morningstars. Like angry bees swarming out of a hive, Julian finds himself surrounded by 7 eager looking bugbears. Even though he is invisible, the creatures strike with amazing accuracy as they bark with joy. (OOC: The bugbears are using scent to pinpoint Julian...sorry Robert :( ) Although a few of the bugbears creatures strikes ping off the brave warrior's armor, several manage to get through (AC21 for 9, AC39/25 for 22, AC21 for 7, AC29 for 10. 48 total damage). (Note that the bugbears attacking Julian, namely B1, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7 and B9 have now moved out of the sight of those on the ground. Ruby can still see them, but they now have cover from her.)
The remaining three bugbears look torn. They can smell the delicious Halfling somewhere very nearby, but there are the Outsiders down below still. Spotting Ruby in her roost, they fire off some arrows at her, but can't get to her.
OOC: Wanted to get back on schedule. Arm, feel free to post an action for last round, as well as the current one so you can catch back up.

Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 67/86 Friday June 26th, 2009 3:28:03 AM
ooc: Using Scent is quite ingenious Nellie, but the use of it is a Move action and thereby would cause an AoO if they were in a threatened square of Julians. And at O3 where he was at, B3, B5, B7 and maybe B1 (depending on his route) would all be subject to Julian's AoO's I think.
Also, under invisibility, it states: If a character tries to attack an invisible creature whose location he has pinpointed, he attacks normally, but the invisible creature still benefits from full concealment (and thus a 50% miss chance). A particularly large and slow creature might get a smaller miss chance.
Jim, believe me, I am doing my best to be fair and not kill Julian. I poured over the rules book last night. Here's my reasoning on my decision...
Use of a move action doesn't necessarily draw an AoO. There are lots that don't. The ones that do generally involve bending down or reaching into bags or the like. Using scent doesn't fall into that catagory. It's more like directing a spell or activating a magic item.
I also read about the Concealment from invisibility. However, in the DMG under invisibility (pg. 295) it says "A creature with the scent ability can detect an invisible creature as it would a visible one." Then I compared that to the description for Blind Fight which says "A creature with the Blind-Fight feat has a better chance to hit an invisible creature. Roll the miss chance twice, and he misses only if both rolls indicate a miss." That's what I based my decision about the Concealment roll on.
I also didn't completely surround Julian, which is what in all actuality the bugbears probably would have done. That didn't seem sporting. Believe it or not, the invisibility spell **is** actually protecting Julian. There are other creatures in the area that **cannot** see Julian and therefore have not attacked.
I really do appreciate your concern, and if you still have concerns please shoot me an email.---Nellie

Nellie, I hope you don't mind if we ask or comment about the actions that you've stated, if you do please let me know. I know I'm not perfect and very few people know all the rules, so I try to offer my counterpoint if allowed. I should have reread my last OOC and worded it more like my counterpoint instead of statement of fact, and asked for a possible change if allowed. It was in no way trying to usurp you or show any lack of skill, like I said, no one can know all the rules and when we do, they are still interpreted differently sometimes.
As always, your ruling stands :)
Edmund (HP: 19/44, AC: 17) Mage Armoured, Messaging, Invisible Friday June 26th, 2009 5:23:48 PM
((Nellie, I agree with what Revi said above, and I hope you understand our position. Firstly, I am very worried that I may have just sent Julian to his death, but I am also concerned about the actions taken last round, which really don't look very fair to me. Here's why I say that:
With regard to the last round, surely some of those bugbears (I'm looking at B1 for example) should have moved through squares threatened by Julian, thus provoking AoOs, unless they have move range greater than 30ft. and are taking rather roundabout paths.
As for detection by scent, you mention that some move actions don't provoke AoOs. But, one of the examples you give--activating a magic item--is generally a standard action, not a move action (PH 142). Furthermore types of activation which require concentration do provoke AoOs. So, 'activating a magic item' is a bad example of a 'move action that doesn't provoke AoOs'--because it isn't generally a move action, and it often does provoke AoOs.
You are right that directing and redirecting a spell as an action is a move action which does not provoke AoOs (PH 143)--but if you read on, you'll see that this is because it is specific to certain exceptional spells, *and* because it does not require concentration.
So the principal seems to be that move actions which require concentration do provoke AoOs, and those which do not require concentration do not provoke AoOs. Moreover, most move actions do provoke AoOs. For my part, I don't think one could reasonably argue that trying to detect an invisible creature by scent doesn't require concentration, and unless the ability description says otherwise, it almost certainly provokes an AoO.
Much like Revi, I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, but I do have concerns about the way the rules are being interpreted here, and I am not certain the reading for this last round of battle is consistent with the principals that seem to be behind those rules .
Revi is right that the DM's ruling stands, but I hope you will consider the evidence for an alternate ruling which I've just presented.))

I've read more on Invisibility Visually undetectable. An invisible creature gains a +2 bonus on attack rolls against sighted opponents, and ignores its opponents' Dexterity bonuses to AC (if any). (Invisibility has no effect against blinded or otherwise nonsighted creatures.) An invisible creature's location cannot be pinpointed by visual means, including darkvision. It has total concealment; even if an attacker correctly guesses the invisible creature's location, the attacker has a 50% miss chance in combat.

((Julian: Scent would allow them to know your exact position if they were within five feet, but they'd need to use their move action to use it--and wouldn't be able to move afterwards. It seems like some of the bugbears were able to scent you and then move more than five feet as well. According to what you have said, it seems that even if they use scent to identify your location, there's still the 50% miss chance. Scent allows pinpointing location to a square, but it does not get rid of the total concealment miss chance in combat. Finally, Scent is an Extraordinary ability, and Bugbears (at least in the MM) don't have it. I am very confused about what is going on here. I expect Nellie will post soon and clear it all up, though. :)

Thar AC 27/26, 55/70 hps, Mag Circle vs. Evil Saturday June 27th, 2009 8:50:43 AM
(Thar's going to use regular climbing, since it's not one of his strong points...)
Up on the shelf Julian revs up his engines and brings one of the bugbears down to earth...literally. As he passes through, Julian is struck by a horrible revelation...no matter how bad the bugbears smell up top, the lower half of them positively reeks! Obviously, personal hygiene has not been discussed with them....ever!
Growling in anticipation, the bugbears shift themselves to surround Julian again. The two in the rear bark (Pincushion (B1) and Dead Eye (B9)) at their fallen comrade (Smelly Hairy) to get out of the way. Smelly Hairy pulls himself to his feet (drawing an AoO from Julian) and lashes out at his unseen but smelt opponent. The bugbears surrounding Julian reign down several blows upon him, most of which connect. (Those AC21's missed last round and the two attacks missed from concealment...yay! Damage last round=0. Damage this round=38.) Having no place to go, Dead Eye takes a step forward. He drops his Morningstar, picks up the bow at his feet, and...waits. Pincushion shifts his position and growls for the others to get out of his way as he snaps off the shafts from Wynum's arrows which riddle his chest.
Down Below Revi makes it back through the scree field (crunch, crunch, crunch) and starts climbing. She does her best, but she can't make a purchase on the cliff face (remember, the cliff Climb DC is 20).
Arm gets himself some quick healing (and removes the arrow for his toushy!) and then reaches into his bag and pulls out his rod. (Taking creative license with you post so you don't get penalized using the move action in the 2nd round). He then heads through the scree slope and stands at the base of the cliff.
Shadow gives his tree another go, but no luck. And to think that Ruby had made it look so easy!
Thar leaves a wand (could you please 2x check that it's a CMW?) at the base of the tree (actually, he drops it, which is a free action) and then scoots 15 feet up the tree once more, possibly making Shadow that much more self conscious about his outdoor skills.
Ruby lines up to take her shot, but overextends her weight and comes **really** close to falling out of the tree. (Anything *below* a 10 on balance is a fall with 6d6 damage).
Wynum fires off another tricky shot and wings the critter that Ruby had been working on before (B8). The creature staggers, clearly very wounded, but somehow still on its feet. As soon as Wynum heads out into the open, four streaks of light come from the shelf and rip down toward him. They explode into his flank (20 damage).
Edmund casts his spell (I'm such a softee!) and moves over to the others. From the ground level, it's impossible for him to see what's going on, since Julian and the bugbears have moved from the edge of the shelf...wait, isn't that Julian that just popped up on the edge?! Edmund scrambles through the scree area, making a good deal of noise.
All smiles, the archers take bead at Revi. They take several shots at her as she tries to make it up the cliff. Two connect, doing 9 damage. Then Julian spots two large spiders (S1 & S2) come out of the cave entrance and skitter to the edge of the cliff. Pointing their posterior ends over the edge, they produce two webs that shoot toward Revi and Arm. Revi is hit by one, but Arm's misses him by a mile The sticky strands of the web quickly cover Revi and sticks her to the cliff face. She is held firmly and cannot move (Revi can escape with a successful DC 13 Escape Artist check or burst the web with a successful DC 17 Strength check.)

Wynum moves around up to 80', looking up towards the cliff would be, until he finds a spot where the canopy seems thin enough, with as few branches as possible, while still affording total cover. Setting his bow arm against a branch for reference, he notches an arrow.
"Ruby, will you spot for me? Watch out for my arrow, firing now!"
He then releases the arrow, firing blindly through the canopy, trying his best to aim for the ledge, and keeping his bow hand steady afterwards.
"What gives?"

Unfortunately, it's effect is hardly what he had hoped for (50-53 Enlarge person if within 60 ft. of rod (Fortitude DC 13 negates). ).

Ruby shrugs her shoulders as a voice comes to her through the message spell. "Sure can." With a mental curse on her last attempt to stay put on the branch she is at, she tries to get a better position. Bracing her feet slightly she finds that she can use her thighs to grasp the branch better, almost like riding a horse really.
With more determination, she puts an arrow to the string and lets another shot fly. Quickly putting a second arrow into the air as well. Something seems to be going on, on the cliff and she was sure it was nothing good for them.

The battle rages on as the heroic Order battle the strange creatures....
Revi finds herself covered in gooey web, but easily rips it off of her and moves away from the spider thingy. (I will allow you to have caught the first arrow from last round. :) )
Edmund quietly crunches through the scree and gets in a better position to help Julian.
Wynum recoils from the spider things attack and decides to stay out of the line of fire! He blindly fires off an arrow and asks Ruby to report back where it might land. Ruby reports that it misses the shelf entirely and is several feet too low.
Thar ties himself off to some lower branches and gets ready to plink off a couple of rounds. (Thar, you're on the trunk, so it'll only be a +2 to AC).
Julian dismisses his spell and is back to his normal small self. He keeps a vigilant eye on his foes, ready to make them pay for any slip ups they might make!
Arm shakes his magic stick at the spider, but nothing happens.
Ruby expertly balances on her branch and let's loose a couple of arrows. Both of them ping off the armor of one of the bugbears.
As for the enemy... The foes surrounding Julian bring down their weapons time and time again, but it would appear that luck is not with them... Julian is pleasantly surprised to find that not a single blow lands on him.
The archers on the east shelf about a bit and take aim at Arm and Revi once more. Deadeye (B9) aims for Arm, but misses. The other two archers concentration on Revi. Two arrows zing toward the huntress, but she literally plucks the first one out of the air before it hits her. The other cuts into her chest doing 10 damage. Meanwhile, the eastern spider attempts to ensnare the warrior with its web once more, but misses.
On the west end of the shelf... Its targets moving out of range, the big spider skitters over the edge of the cliff in order to climb into range. Strangely though, its legs wobble and buckle. Completely loosing its footing, it begins to fall off the cliff but somehow miraculously manages to grab onto the shelf ledge and pull itself back up. (LOL!! Oh, my gosh! First a nat. 1, then a 20!!)
Pincushion (B1) growls and barks and gets bored of waiting for the others to get out of his way. He heads back over to the cliff and picks up his bow again. Old Softy (B2) plinks off another round at Arm, but also misses.

"Mad little man," Edmund thinks to himself. "Couldn't get me up there for all the tea that is, or was, or ever will be."

Revi scoots back to the area where she left her bow. And Arm heads back to retrieve the wand. (I'd like to speed things up, so just say they're out of the scree)
Shadow finally conquers the tree and gets up 15 feet.
Despite the advice of several companions, the enraged Julian continues to fight and brings down the very plain and uninteresting bugbear in front of him (B5) with his second blow.
Wynum tries another blind shot, but once more has no luck. Ruby reports that he is still low and needs to bring it a little to the right.
Thar wings off a round and smiles as his arrow sticks Deadeye (B9) in the foot.
Ruby fires again, and though she has no problem keeping her footing, her hunch is right. Her arrows ping harmlessly off the bugbear's armor once more.
Edmund repositions and gets a decent view of a few bugbears swinging at nothing.
The badies... The unnamed bugbear falls with a thud to the ground in front of Julian. Unphased, the other bugbears press their attack. Smelly Hairy (B4) and Fish Breath (B7) connect solidly (18 damage) while Gimp (B6) and Wheezer (B3) just flail their weapons in the air uselessly. Seeing that unnamed bugbear #5 has **finally** gotten out of his way, Pincushion (B1) drops the bow he just picked up and heads toward the invisible but ooooh so tasty smelling Halfling. A small dribble of drool begins to slide down his chin as he takes up his place.
Their visible foes having left the scree field, the Spiders turn their attention to the unwanted and invisible foe on the shelf (Julian). Scooting back away from the edge of the ledge, they stand and watch the area where Julian is.
The archers fire off several arrows into the wooded area, but can't seem to hit their foes. Deadeye lines up a fantastic shot on Wynum, but miscalculates the taur's location (LOL!! Now a nat. 20 on Hide for Wynum!!) and his arrow whizzes by Wynum's ear.

Realising the others cannot even see Julian because he is invisible, Edmund alerts the rest of the Order that the Halfling has returned to Earth. "Julian is with me at the base of the cliff," the mage says, remembering to a location because he is also invisible. "We're going to come down the scree and will meet you under Thar's tree. Don't come up to help us. They can't see us anyway. Wait for us down there!"

OOC: Hm, you're right. I adjusted my spot on the map and am changing the post again from yesterday to reflect it
IC: Arm makes his way down the slope as quickly as he can, intending to pick up the wand to assist his friend.
OOC: Now this presents a problem...I don't know WHICH tree the wand was by...I can make it into the woods this round, but I won't be able to get to the furthest tree away if that's where the wand is. I'll check in later and make another post.
Arm[HP 31/33 AC 22] Thursday July 2nd, 2009 5:58:38 AM
Todays post: Arm will not be able to make it to the tree where the wand is, so he will settle for getting there next round. Once he does, he will pick it up and then move back to aid his friend.

Julian connects and then jumps off the cliff. He draws AoO's from the bugbears around him, but miraculously only gets hit once. Still, he is in pretty bad shape by the time he finishes his jump. Edmund is there to lend a helping hand and get the wounded warrior out of the scree field.
Arm begins crunching into the scree once more. He hears a thud in the scree...hopefully it's Julian.
Wynum wings off his shots and changes Deadeye's nickname. He's now just called Dead.
Thar wings his opponent (switched to B7 Fishbreath). Revi connects with one shot and Fishbreath grunts in anger.
Ruby comes very close to falling out of a tree and then fires at Wheezer (B2). One arrow pierces his armor, and he falls to the ground.
Shadow manages to scurry another 15 feet up the tree.
Bad guys... The enemy on the ledge vanquished and no visible enemy in sight, the bugbears pull back out of archer range. The two spiders skitter back toward the cave entrance and disappear.

Seeing the enemy retreat causes Revi to grit her teeth in disgust. Looking around and whistling for her wolf--who is no longer sprouting an arrow from his flank, Revi gives the wolf a good scratch behind the ears and murmurs, "We better move back a little."
Revi and Arashi move within the cover of the trees (10' south) and rest.

Feeling very annoyed with himself the halfling slumps his way down the scree with Edmund. Through the Message he says, "Let us know if those arrows are coming for Eddy and me. There's something wrong with Eddy's magic - it's as if they could see me, I guess he cast Invisibility Against Good." He slaps Edmund on the (lower) back and chuckles, "That's a good joke, hey - Invisibility Against Good? I'll help you change that in your spellbook in the morning."
Double move.
Arm[HP 31/33 AC 22] Friday July 3rd, 2009 8:49:20 AM

With that, he climbs down quickly (Climb = 15) and heals Arm by using up a spell from his list (and anyone else that comes by) = Cure on Arm = 14 pts
When that's finished, he says in a frustrated tone, "Well, how are we going to take those bugbears out? They're out of our range for bows and the only way we can get to them is up the hill. Also, they've got a wizard somewhere that appears to be invisible... Any ideas? I have invisibility purge memorized, so if I can get up there, I can help us see him. "We certainly need to rest, but they would as well, and with Julian's attacks, some of them will heal much faster than us. But I don't think there's any wizard up there. I bet the spiders are actually the spumeniders. We haven't seen them since the two spiders appeared. I was right in fearing they are doppelspumeniders. We should use handsigns. In the meantime...I would have an idea for getting us there. Revi, would you help?"
Wynum searches for the tree with the tallest yet thinest trunk, which would still be at the fringe of the forest, or Ruby's tree if there's no better. [Survival 16]. He then produces his handaxe and begins cutting it down, but stops immediately, realizing how much he has been weakened by the fight, now that the rush subsides a little.

Down Time (DM Nellie) Saturday July 4th, 2009 12:25:04 AM
And so, with the archers pulled back, the Order appears to have a breather. Julian and Edmund make it to the tree and get ready for Arm to administer its healing. Wynum has a bright idea and begins to hack down the tree that Ruby is occupying. Ruby doesn't appreciated the effort.
OOC: You have some down time. The archers will not press an attack in the short term, so if you need to formulate a battle plan, now would be the time. Also, sorry Edmund...helping someone down the scree doesn't get you there any faster....unless you push the other person down. ;)
Julian (small size) AC 19, hp/69 = -2(+16 Bear's Endurance) Saturday July 4th, 2009 2:18:32 AM
OOC Julian needs some healing asap, otherwise he will pass out. How does healing work overnight? Found it = 1 point per level for 8 hours rest, and double that with a successful DC 15 Heal check.
Julian is all bustling and keen to mount another attack. He can barely stand still as he presents his case to the Mithril Order. "We should attack again right away, before they're ready. Surely they don't climb up every time, there must be another entrance. Perhaps a pair of us can scout round for another entrance, and we will go in together." As he is talking he is opening his pack and he retrieves some items. "Edmund and Arm, I've some scrolls here you could use. And here some Alchemist's Fire, four of them, two Thunderstones and three Tanglefoot bags - they can work really well when you throw them first and then the fire. "We can make a good go of another attack right now, so long as we stick together."

"I suggest we retreat to a safe distance, set a watch, and find another way up. Clearly, climbing the wall is not going to work. And there must be another entrance that goes into that cave. Wynum [AC18, 7hp, See Invis] Saturday July 4th, 2009 4:37:43 PM
Half listening to Ruby and Revi comments, Wynum seems lost in thought, the handaxe hanging loosely by his side.
"Oh. Ah. Yes. He said, the druid: not arm his children... if possible."
He then considers the tree, with a bit of bark hanging from its fresh wound, and his axe.
"On second thought. Let's not cut that tree. This is not optimal. Mmmm. The question to rest or not to rest has to be asked, because I think this cliff is climbable. There may very well be no other way. The bugbear need not climb the cliff, they would use ropes slung by the spumanider. We would do the same: Revi, Ruby and I would climb up then hoist the others with ropes. I vote for getting there now. Julian agrees... Edmund, I think you still have many decent spells left. What do you all think? We should decide promptly."
{OOC: Ruby and Revi are good enough to climb such a cliff by taking 10, with a little help from Arm's +2 inspire competence schtick. As for Wynum, it would only require the extra boost from Thar's Bull's Strength spell. Once up there, it's piece of cake to hoist the others up. Also remember we're not meant to rest after every single fight. We're supposed to be able to handle 2-3 fights before resting, and spell depletion is to be expected. Also, it's not exactly the Wold's safest place, so resting may be a challenge by itself! Remember the dopples in the park...}

Ruby drops down near her pack and does not bother to pick it up for now. As she listens she just shrugs her shoulders. "Would have been more help if I had not needed to watch my balance as well." Moving around she winces slightly from the rough abuse that her thighs got. But a little pain was not going to keep her from doing her duty, she could attend to that later.
"I can scout around a little and see if they have another way up there...but it might take more time than you want." She is more than willing to lend her skills if they will help out the group. Taking that cliff will not be fun and she does not relish the idea of going it with only partial strength.
Edmund (HP: 19/44, AC: 17) Mage Armoured, Messaging, Invisible, Seeing Invisible Sunday July 5th, 2009 10:39:33 PM
Edmund is fairly adamant about not going ahead until the group is fully rested and prepared.
"This is not simply a bump on a knoll with a hobgoblin or two to watch it," he declares firmly, "And I am utterly opposed to proceeding at anything less than full strength unless the entire Order is against me."
"Would that we had Fly and Haste, the last run-in might have been difficult enough; without them, and now without even invisibility, there is nothing I can do at long range except a few casts of magic missiles, and then whilst suffering withering return fire. I say no. Most strenuously, in fact."
Edmund will not budge from his position in this regard.

The Magic Missiles will make a big difference. We can actually make sure you are safe and close enough for your other spells (OOC: such as Shout). And I'll pay for a Day Spa for you when we get back." "There's about 10 of them, and some spiders. Edmund's Missiles will probably take out one of them every second round. With support I can take out one nearly every round. Revi & Ruby too no doubt. Thar might be best in the second line healing us (forgive me Thar if I am wrong, I thinking quickly on my feet and I don't do that well when sitting with time, so...). "Wynumm, could... would be best... I don't know yet - what do you reckon Wynumm? Shadow does things I can't comprehend, and Arm is always good in a fight. Feeling refreshed from Thar's spell, and seeing that he has healed Julian up a bit as well, Arm looks to see who is the greatest injured, which appears to be Wynum at the moment. He touches him with the wand, though he gets the feeling that it could have been better (1 charge-cure medium wounds=9...wow, talk about bad rolling..). While they discuss things, Arm puts in, "Ed, can you still fly? If so, we should try to find a way around this edge of the mountain to the other side..perhaps prospects will be better there.".

Wynum [AC18, 18hp, See Invis] Monday July 6th, 2009 12:21:33 PM
Massaging some of his remaining arrow wounds, Wynum gets a look around the party.
"We used several good spells in the early encounter, but some of us are pretty much fresh. Shadow, Thar and Ruby didn't endure wounds or losses. Once again, will the Order's strategy be to retreat and rest after every shuffle? Will we hang our tactics on Edmund's strongest spells every time? "Well, we can scout, but we still don't know what you all think about resting? I'm new to this group, maybe I should understand by his words that it's Edmund that leads this group? Having a leader is fine with me, and I would abide, but I've never been told so."

Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 57/86 Monday July 6th, 2009 12:31:06 PM
"If we rest, and it looks like Eddie really needs too, we had better keep an eye on the entrance of that cave. If we move away from here and camp, we could get surrounded, so I say we stay here under cover of the tree's." Revi begins to bandage her wounds since none seem to offer any healing. "Also, if we do see any bugbears, maybe we should use one of those wands to make them our friends and help us out." Revi with Arashi in tow, then moved to the treeline, taking cover from the trees and concealment in the underbrush and kept watch on the cave entrance.

Edmund is pretty sure there is an alternate entrance.
"Oh! The wands!" and so remembering, he hands Arm the Wand of Charm Person which they recovered from Xryzztrnpipsy.
"I think we had another, but it's no use giving it to me," the Wizard says. "I cannot use them."
"Tomorrow, I will make it incomparably easier to take that cliff," he continues. "Please trust me. It's worth waiting for. All we are going to accomplish, dashing ourselves against that redoubt, is utter ruin. Even if you could climb up with them attacking you the whole way, and even if you managed to somehow secure a lead to the ground with them beating on you all the while, what is to prevent them from simply cutting it at once?"
"It's not possible for us, outnumbered as we are, to scale the cliff with them in a defensive position on top of it. We can, however, level the playing field--and this I shall accomplish for you tomorrow. The rest will be up to you, of course, but I can at least make it a fair fight."

I don't know what your plan involves, but maybe we could try a less.... fiery tactic. Couldn't we charm and enthrall those bugbears? After all, we've promised so much to the druid. Maybe this time we could try not to kill them all? Julian can do this, I can disarm them easily, I'm sure Arm can do things with his music. What do you think?"
Eventually, Wynum will have a look at the scree, checking for his missed arrows. Unfortunately, they disintegrated on impact with the cliff. "Cheap stuff, he mumbles, never buy that brand again..."

"I'm not going easy on them. They are clearly not charmed. We've been nice and it nearly cost us all our lives. Now, we roast them."
Edmund's bellicoseness may have to do from the fact that he is still seriously injured. Generally speaking, he dislikes being stuck full of arrows.

OOC using the Heal skill will grant twice the normal hit points after 8 hours rest, DC 15. Who has a descent Heal skill check? Jules has 23 now, plus 16 after eight hours rest = 31. So 38 points to go, if someone could wave their wand or hand at The Badger. Here's some other estimates - don't turn me into a toad if I am wrong.. Revi too could use around 15 points, Edmund 9, Wynumm 14 Without a Heal check add 8 to each of these numbers, which is another charge from the wand for each of us.
Julian agrees wholehearted with Wynumm, "My halfling friends didn't like me killing everything that threatened us. Kendry even showed me that talking to them can make friends of them. So I had Merciful placed upon the falchion that I named after a wyvern we talked to rather than killed, EagerTooth. "The druid with the long name (I don't remember names easily) said that the bugbears are naturally bad, just misled. Perhaps we should give them the chance that the druid suggested that they deserve. "I don't really know. You see, when they attack like that I just need to kill them, all I see is red. So EagerTooth, the sword no the wyvern, allows me to do that without having to choose whether to talk or to kill. You can talk to them later - and that can really take you places. We halflings found that the prisoners sometimes would really talk. "So, can we disarm them, stick them in place, scare them, capture them rather than killing?"

Ruby, once she gets back from her little search she will aid anyone that she can with her limited healing skills. Though she is able to bind wounds and keep them from bleeding further, she is unable to help with any better healing as you rest.
Unless you want me to try with several people and roll for each, though as Thar mentioned...he is more skilled than anyone.
Lets an OOC note to yours Nellie. Sorry for being confusing.

((OOC: I seem to have misunderstood the way the Heal ability functions in this case. Here's how it works according to PHB 75-76:
1) In this case, the desired action is called long-term care. It doubles the amount of HP recovered either over night or over an entire day. Overnight, the total is Character Level x 2.
2) You cannot perform long-term care on yourself. Someone else must do it. Someone like Thar.
3) A person can perform long-term care on up to six others simultaneously; it appears this is done with one heal check (or at least it doesn't explicitly say otherwise), so Thar would be good to go.
4) Performing long-term care counts as light activity for the person performing it; as such, it seems they cannot be asleep whilst performing long-term care. Sorry, Thar!
5) Long-term care requires some bandages and other such basic, sundry items. Thar is a cleric and likely has these.))
A Lack of Discovery... (DM Nellie) Wednesday July 8th, 2009 12:41:58 AM
Ruby and Revi scout around the forested area, looking for another entrance which the bugbears used to get up the cliff. Unfortunately, they find nothing. It could be that something could be found by heading up and into the scree, but then again, those bugbears might have a thing or two to say about that.
Several folks set about binding wounds. Then Thar makes his rounds. The expert touch of a cleric sets things in the right direction, and Thar even mentions using several spells/wand usages on the party.
OOC: Feel free to discuss strategy if you wish. Right now I'm assuming that you guys have agreed to finish up scouting and then head into the forest and sleep through the night. If that's correct, please let me know any activities you might want to happen while you finish up the day (further scouting into the scree area??) and then post a watch order for the night if you will. :) I'll be at the water park again tomorrow, so I may or may not be able to post tomorrow night.

"Well let's do what we can for the injured and then set our watch rotation and get some rest. Shadow says as the group discusses what to do.

Wynum sets up his belongings on the ground and prepares to rest, welcoming Thar's bandages (and light healing if any is available).
{Arm and Shadow are the only ones who kept arrow-free, so I guess you're 'it' for the watch! Arm can sing a lullaby, then Shadow'll take over and search our pockets. A perfect plan. Plus overworked Thar will have to stay up for healing duties...}

Concerning the watch and placement of our camp, Revi impresses the mandate that it must be within sight of the cave entrance, under cover of the brush, trees and darkness, so we are not surrounded by anything that may come out of the cave that night. To make a camp away from the cave, unless it was miles away, would be foolhardy at best.

If we camp on the road, we'll be safe. We better get going, hurry!"
Revi gathers up her stuff and makes way back to the wagon where the two porters had been left on their own.

Waving his tail furiously to deter further assaults, he soon snores, muttering things about evil winebugs.
{OOC Revi I think the porters had already been sent to a secure place by the druid. But otherwise that is a good plan to sleep on the safe road.} {OOC Thar, your healing should be 2d8+6 and 3d8+6 for CMW and CSW, which would add 1hp yet to Wynum, Ed, and J, and 2 to Revi.}

"On the thingo about a camp site I'd vote that we head back to the wagons I reckon. I don't really want to walk all the way out of here, and what else have we stored on the wagon? Food and ale? Tents?"
"Spell casters to sleep through on the wagons? Everyone else taking turns on the watch?"

Plans are made, healing spells are cast, and preparation for a nights rest is made.
OOC: The wagon is a long way away by now. The road (near where the wagon site is) is fairly close by (3 rounds of travel one way). I'll need to know whether you guys are camping in the forest or on the road by the wagon. I also could use a watch order and Spot Checks. :) Also, am I to understand that Thar is going to be up a good portion of the night to heal his companions? Order did I just get that mixed up?
Regardless...camp is made (somewhere) and as the light begins to fade, the sounds of activity in the forested area rises to an almost unpleasant level. Growls and thuds, squeaks and skittering fill the air. In the fading light, it becomes harder and harder to tell how far away they might be, but the occasional pair of yellow or red eyes leave no doubt that the group is being watched.

Everyone is brought on full alert by the screaming, and the Order scans the area for the source. From his position on the wagon, Shadow sees a few flickers of movement out in the forest (as does Edmund). Arm, Thar, and Ruby get a better view of things and can see several humanoid figures lumbering in the wooded area out of the firelight (About 40 feet away). Revi wakes up, but decides that it must all be a dream. She tries to snuggle up with her guard wolf, but it's hard when he's all bristled up! There is something out there...several somethings, and the wolf is on edge. Julian's yapping dogs add to the fray, and it is soon difficult to tell what might be going on in the forest. Ruby notices that Hermes seems very unnerved by the sounds...and the motion out in the forest.
Thar searches his memories for something that might make a noise like that. As he contemplates, another couple of screams are heard. Thar is fairly certain that the sounds originate from humans.
Before she heads out to sleep, Revi deduces that several bipedal creatures are crunching through the forest toward the screams. The screaming increases in pitch, and then change to a pleading cry. In the darkness, two women call out for help. "No, please don't. Please, no, no!!"

Arm[HP 33/33 AC 22] d20+6=8 ; Wednesday July 15th, 2009 5:55:00 AM
Arm prepares to head in the direction of Julian's arrow once it is fired, but hesitates for a moment (will save=8...doh!).
OOC: Thanks for your concern, Nellie..she's doing a bit better but still in a lot of pain, and we're still waiting to hear the results of the xrays..what's REALLY hurting us is her time off is without pay...she DOES need rest though, so it can't be avoided.

Shadow nocks an arrow, but then hears the pleading and almost (i think - will save 17) jumps down from the wagon to go to the help of the distressed. At the last second he does not and will fire an arrow at the figures moving through the brush (I know it is kind of blind firing).

"Something's moving around out there," Edmund shouts. "Wake up, you nutter," he adds to Revi. "Haven't you noticed that we're all to arms? Get up!"
Edmund will then cast Fox's Cunning on himself.

Thar AC 27/28, 55/70 hps, Mag Circle vs. Evil d20+14=17 ; Wednesday July 15th, 2009 1:56:47 PM
Thar is shaken by the sounds of someone possibly being tortured, but is even more troubled about the fact they could be walking into an ambush. Looking over to Shadow, he says, "Do you feel like sneaking into the forest together and trying to move in from the flanks towards the source of that noise? We could do our best to remain silent and hidden, and at least get out of this light where we're so exposed..."
If Shadow agrees, he'll move toward the sound of the woman's screams, but about 50' away from it's lateral position in the forest. He doesn't want to move directly toward it, but at some oblique angle...
He'll do his best to remain silent and hidden as he goes in.. .(Let me know if I need spot/move silent/listen/hide checks...)

Revi rubbed the sleep from her eyes and looked blearily out into the dark expanse of the trees. "It's a trap you know, probably one of those shapechangers trying to lure us out from the safe road." Thinking quickly, she tried to taunt one of the possible creatures waiting in hiding for them, to draw them out, "Hey Spumanider thingy, I saw your brother today, he cried like a little girl begging for mercy before I cut his arms and legs off!" Julian casts his spell, and the dark forest is suddenly a lot easier to see in! Unfortunately though, the sudden illumination prevents him from taking his shot.
Shadow stays on the wagon and fires off a round. He doesn't hear any sounds that make him think he scored, but then again, with all the noise around, one never knows.
Edmund casts his spell and feels even more clever than before. He rouses Revi who is none to thrilled. She issues a challenge, but hears nothing in return.
Thar and Shadow decide to take the fight to the enemy. Sneaking out of the fire light, they head into the woods, where it's dark...very, very dark (almost no visibility with normal vision). The pair hear the faint murmurings of spellcasting, and then Thar feels something wet splash on his arm followed by a burning sensation (1 hp damage).
Arm and Ruby also head in, drawn to help the women in distress. Feeling an overwhelming compulsion to help the ladies, they abandon stealth and head straight toward the sounds of the women in distress. They are met by arrows whistling through the air. One arrow smashes into Ruby's chest (6 damage), and another whistles by her ear. None hit Arm.
Meanwhile, the women continue to plead, begging and screaming. "No, no! Don't let them get us. Help us!!" From the sounds of things, they are heading further into the forest.
Arm[HP 33/33 AC 22] d20+13=27 ; d20+7=17 ; d20+9=26 ; d8+6=14 ; d8+6=7 ; Friday July 17th, 2009 7:37:13 AM
Shaking off the attraction to the ladies (see OOC below), Arm strains to hear and see who or what it was that shot at him (listen=27, spot=17). If he is successful, he grabs Ruby's arm and heads in that direction as far as he is able. If he manages to find them, he will attack the closest one with alacrity (attk: 26, dmg: 14-ignore last dmg roll).
OOC: I took a bit of creative license here, I guess you could say..if the spell he was hit with was 'charm person' it only lasts until he was attacked...UNLESS it wasn't the charmer that attacked (at least that's how we play it in the live game-if I'm wrong please let me know). If it wasn't, then he will continue on to 'aid the ladies' while still under the spell.
Shadow [AC 20/15 HP 47/47] d20+9=24 ; d20+5=12 ; Friday July 17th, 2009 9:16:06 AM
Shadow tries to see anything in the dark forest (his limited vision - assisted by his elven heritage), but will continue to try and move quietly towards the fleeing voices. He knows for sure it is a trap, but knows he will be unable to stop his companions.

{I presume Wynum also failed his will save}
Suddenly very much inspired, Wynum readies his massive lance by his side, then gallops heedlessly (up to 160') into the woods, going straight for the wailing centauress in distress.
{Centaurs have low-light vision too, so I presume that's OK? Wynum's impulse would be to skewer apparent captors and non-female-taur ennemies but that depends on the spell's effect.}

"Where the deuce are you going!" Edmund shouts at the members of the Order who are headed into the woods. "Come back here at once! Chasing harpies through a forest is extremely unwise!!!"
Practically dancing with rage, the wizard shouts into the message spell. "Stop chasing them! It's a trap! Return to the camp immediately!"

Ruby glances down at the arrow that quivers in her chest and stumbles. She feels someone grab her arm and she allows that person to pull her back. "An ogre's codpiece but that hurts like the pits." With what little bit of wits she is able to draw upon in the situation she slips behind the nearest tree, after giving Arm a thanking nod of her head.
Her hand comes up to check on the arrow and see how bad it really is. Maybe she could pull it out but how can she be sure it has hit nothing vital. Then her face blushes as she thinks about having someone check it out for her...but that someone would have to be Thar. No way am I going to remove my shirt for him to check out this arrow. Sure she liked him, but with all the rest around and the way she felt about him. Maybe I can just die now and save myself the embarrassment.
