Word From an Old Friend

Pick of the Cargo - DMAl
Friday July 3rd, 2009 9:03:57 PM

Dotta shakes her head when Syr offers the day off. "The crew's already on their way up to Gold Level, Boss," she says. "They'll need someone here to check the building material back in. Thanks, but I'll be alright." Dotta begins locking up the warehouse as Syr, Brahmah and Mac walk off.

"Of course I'll take you up on your offer of a drink," the halfling replies to Florin. He eyes Florin up and down. "No, I don't work with any nobles. Not here. Not in Dirt City." He turns to lead the Crimson Shields down the dock. "What you saw in that hold was the sum of everything I've ever owned. I picked up stakes and put everything I every had into this expedition. What you've seen is everything I am. I've made fortunes and lost them. Built them with my wits and my own two hands. Never asked anything of anybody. I risked everything for this. But what's life without risk, eh?"

The halfling leads the way, unfamiliar with the docks of Floating City, he takes an occasional wrong turn and the group has to back track a bit, but eventually, they wind up at the section of the docks designed for the repair of ships, the Dry Dock.

"There she is." Huge cranks lift the ship out of the water in a "V" shaped cradle. "And she'd still be lost if it weren't for you. Well, what do you say? There's a fantastic assortment of exotic items aboard my ship. What say I let you take your pick ... up to ... 22000 gold pieces worth? A single item or any combination of items totalling that amount? 22000 gold pieces worth for each of you. What do you say to that?"

As the Crimson Shields contemplate the reward, the view between various ships shows a turtle ferry approaching from a distance. Strange. The waters had been devoid of all vessels since the appearance of the monster yesterday.

OoC: In game terms, what you are being offered is your pick of any item or combination of items from the Core Books. This item or items is not to exceed 22000 gp. (22000 is the standard increase in worth for the levels you are at.) Excluded from the deal are any Intelligent Items, Cursed Items, or Artifacts.

Wynn AC 28: HP 47/83: Message; Blinking
Saturday July 4th, 2009 3:03:13 PM

Wynn is startled at first by Happy's bid, but gathers himself and calls back "4000 once, 4000 twice, Sold for 4000 gp to Happy from the Giggling Ghost!!". The bard calls on the tenders that have gathered to pull the carcass of the great beast to shore where it can be secured. "Well, it's all yours Happy...what are you going to do with it?"

The halfling cleric considers the offer from Tender Farfoot. Belkior is trying to figure out whether his fellow halfling is dealing with them honestly, or playing some sort of game to get the Shields into trouble with the City and the Catacombs.
Sense Motive = 18

Moreover, he doesn't want to be appear to be too eager. Certainly not the sort of fellow that jumps at the first oppotunity for new equipment.

"Mr. Farfoot! Do you happen to have a Bead of Karma in your goods?"

"Oh, shady, dude. That's a sweet weave for a black hand such as yourself." Jass strings together a patios that no one other than Mac may understand, but he takes a look and selects an item or two for himself.

The elf pauses at the dock's edge to look down on the floating carcass. Thinking of the depths that they went to to secure the cargo, he shivers in the warm air, "I certainly don't want to do THAT again." Turning and grinning at the paladin, "Hey Florin, I don't think I need to bathe for a week now."

When faced with a choice of items, the elf looks perplexed and casually glances over them hoping that something jumps out at him. He whispers to Jass, "You could be right, either this guy wants to compete with the catacombs or he is supplying them. Either way, let's make our choices and get out of here.

Needs and Wants - DMAl
Monday July 6th, 2009 9:06:59 PM

Happy laughs, a warm and hearty sound. "Believe it or not, my first thought was to have it stuffed and mounted atop the inn, Wynn!" He laughs again, and the crowd laughs with him. "Call it a tribute to the Crimson Shields. It is awfully big, though." Happy grows thoughtful, rubbing his bald head with the thick palm of his hand. "If I ever start a second inn I could call it the Drowned Kraken!" He laughs again, and again the crowd roars with him.

The tenders steer the body of the Kraken to another slip in the dry dock and hoist it high.

"Bead of Karma ... " Tender Farfoot pulls the manifest from the bag at his side and begins going through the pages. Rows and rows of items are listed there in a neat flowing hand. Page after page and no bead of Karma. "Ah! Here it is. But it says here that it's one bead on a special strand." A whistle escapes his lips. "That's an expensive item. I don't think that I could part with that. And it says here that the bead loses its power when separated from the strand. Sorry."

To Belkior, the fellow halving is earnest in both his desire to reward, and his regret at no being able to provide the requested item. "If you can make up the difference in either gold or trade, I can let you have the Strand of Prayer Beads. That'll be 23800 gold, though." Tender Farfoot raises an eyebrow at the colorful but incomprehensible language that flows from Jass, but says nothing in response.

While Jass and Mac consider their choices, Brahmah expresses skepticism. Syr, on the other hand, asks if they might take the reward in straight cash.

"Gold or gems ... ?" Tender's face drops into thought as he considers the logistics. "You'll have to wait a few days, until I can secure a loan on the goods I have aboard. Shouldn't take long."

Meanwhile, the turtle ferry approaching in the distance, comes near enough to pick out the forms of three figures standing on the turtle's back.

Florin Jadenth AC:27/HP:156
Monday July 6th, 2009 9:07:06 PM

Florin thinks over everything but shakes his head on what he really would like to do, trade in and all he would be alittle short and he has no way of makeing up the extra money so he glances towards Tinder and speaks up after a moment, "You wouldn't happen to have a belt of giant stregnth+4 in there and a gloves of climbing and swimming would you? I think I will owe you alittle bit but I'm willing to pay the few hundred difference."

Florin while thinking of it steps over to Jass as a idea comes to mind and speaks to him, "Hey Jass, can you create magic items? If you can would a cloak of displacement be among them? I been wanting to upgrade to a cloak of displacement (major). If you have the abilty and able I would be happy to pay for the work of course. I can even throw my current cloak of displacement (minor) in as part payment which you could sell or keep for yourself."

(Didn't look at Jass's CS so figured just cut the middle man and role play out the asking anyway.)

Florin glances at Belkior also and ponders before speaking to him too when things calm down abit more, "Hey Belkior, I was thinking. Later I was thinking of picking up a wand of bull's strength. Would you be open to carrying it if I did and you can buff those who could use it." Florin knows that the belt of giant stregnth will rule out him useing the spell but the others could probably use the spell effects.

belt of giant strength+4 [16000]
gloves of swimming and climbing [6250]

Total: 22250 (Florin's willing to pay for the difference)

The halfling cleric carefulyl fingers his purse, as if weighing every coin inside. After a period of indecision, Belkior nods and accepts the offer from Tender Farfoot.

"I have some cash right here, if you will. Let me count it out. Or ... is this where you want to be paid? Seeing as how it is a rather large amount."

If Mr. Farfoot wishes to be paid right here, Belkior will start the lengthy process of counting out the money.

Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen of Domi (AC 27, Hps 119/133)
Tuesday July 7th, 2009 6:54:22 AM

"I don't like any of the choices. This may sew discord through the group. I would refuse the deal." The relatively law abiding minotaur and member of the WLA is near frustration.

"The Drowned Kracken...it has a ring to it...doesn't it?" Wynn laughs along with the crowd and Happy over his new acquisition. The bard returns to teh dock and learns of their reward for teh salvage of the halfling trader's ship. "A generous award that requires some thought" he nods in Farfoot's direction.

Mac's mind races trying to determine what he'll ask Farfoot for, but he needs to understand his brother, and at the moment he is some distance from this destination. With some subtlety, he catches Brahmah's attention and raising one eyebrow looks at his kin, casts quick glances about the people in the scene, and looks back to Bramah again - questioningly.

Jass AC 19 HP 79/60 (Mage Armor, False Life)
Tuesday July 7th, 2009 9:03:40 AM

"Nope, can't magik anything but the occasional scroll. Honestly, I've never tried, feels too much like work, yaknow?" Jass winks at the elven paladin. "Besides, its better for those around me to be with me instead of me being locked up in a musty workroom."

Jass continues pondering lists, but his merry, straw thatched head comes up with a wave of his hand to the other Crimson Shields as they return from the inventory site. "Nothing the matter then", he begins, but then notices the pinched nostrils of one of the minotaurs.

"Hey partners", he nudges Florin with an elbow. "Is there something wrong, or does Brahmah glower at everyone like that?" He raises his voice to the Ranger, "Hey buddy, what's got you down in the mouth?"

By his mannerisms, Jass isn't playing, but really wants to know. It seems he knows how to care after all!

Syr Ac 32/31 HP 154
Tuesday July 7th, 2009 12:12:08 PM

Syr scratches his head in confusion and looks at the big minotaur. He ponders for a second and then touches the creature's thigh since that is roughly the height of the elf, "Hey Cap? No need to growl at the little guy, I'm guessing he just wants to reward us. Ya know, 'an honest day's work for an honest day's pay."

"Why not just follow my lead and take the money a couple days from now? No reason to choose, you can even go up a rank in your WLA thing from what I hear of the costs. Or is there some other reason that you would refuse?" Syr gazes up at the scarred body and searches for an answer.

Turning to the others he voices, "Did ya'll want to scope out the construction site in case we get trouble?"

(OOC: I'm on vacation Thu-Sun, can anyone find the time to post for Syr please?)

The Many Coins of the Realm - DMAl
Tuesday July 7th, 2009 4:22:43 PM

"Belt of Giant Strength ... " Tender Farfoot flips quickly through the manifest. "Yes. Have one of those," he tells Florin. "Gloves of Swimming and Climbing too." He takes a graphite marking stick from inside his vest and makes some marks.

"You ... you have the cash?" Tender Farfoot blinks as Belkior shows him an immense store of gold and platinum coins. "You're right. That is quite a lot of coins. But, I'll tell you what, this is most convenient for me, as I just happen to have had a request for a large amount of cash." The halfling reaches into Belkior's pouch and extracts 1800 gp. He smiles. "Now, just give the remaining amount to your friend here." Tender indicates Syr with the butt end of his graphite marking stick. "And I'll have taken care of two transactions in one."

"Can we have a rope ladder or some such." The halfling merchant calls out to a nearby dockworker before going back to his manifest to mark off Belkior's Strand of Prayer Beads and the many scrolls requested by Jass. "We need to get into the hold for my friends here."

The halfling's head remains bowed even after making the last mark upon his ledger. He taps the graphite marker against upon the margin of the book, a rhythmic tick keeping time with his thoughts. Finally, he turns, closing the manifest and replacing the graphite marking within his vest.

"Excuse me," he says, approaching the two minotaurs, Brahmah and Mac, "I apologize for listening in, but one cannot help but hear. From what I gather, you have some question as to the legitimacy of my business. Am I right? I'd like to try and put that to rest now if I could. Is there anything that I could say, any question that I could answer that might put your minds at ease? I'll try my best to accommodate you."

"I'm afraid my motives in this case are not entirely altruistic, I'll have to admit. You see, business runs on rumor as much as it does on goods or gold. Reputation can be as fine a coin as platinum in this trade. So, if there's any way that *I* can keep *you* from playing havoc with my reputation, it's in my best interest to do so. With as popular as your group appears to be ... " the halfling sweeps a hand to encompass the crowd of merrymakers at the City Gate " ... what you say, even in casual, unintended conversation, may carry great weight."

The now-not-so-distant turtle ferry appears to be coming straight for the dock. Suddenly one of the three figures raises an arm and begins waving.

Wednesday July 8th, 2009 1:16:31 PM

Bowing his head once toward Belkior, he grins, "Not bad, I'll have to start callin' ya the Bank of 'Belk." Turning to Tender, "Seems like we are all squared away. Have you a shop or decided where you will be setting up? We may have to stop in for a visit a time or two..."

The motion catching his eye, Syr turns once again to the approaching turtle, squinting his eyes carefully against the glare from the water to determine it's occupants.

What We Have Here - DMAl
Wednesday July 8th, 2009 9:06:23 PM

"Ring of Protection +3?" Tender Farfoot opens the manifest and begins flipping pages again. He takes a glance up at the silent towering minotaur, as if an answer might come while his attention is diverted to the manifest. "Yes. I have a Ring of Protection +3. What sort of potions were you looking for?" he asks Wynn.

"I have other Belts of Giant Strength too," the halfling says to Mac. "If you're interested in one."

"A lot of overhead in a shop." Tipping his head to Syr, the halfling answers from the side of his mouth. He sighs. "Running a shop is one kind of life. It's not a bad life, mind you. But ... I'll tell you, part of the reason I made this trip was to get out on the road again. Match my wits against the Wold, if you will. You're adventurers. Surely you understand that?"

"Well, lets have it. If you've got some sort of complaint, lets out with it." The halfling turns back to Brahmah with a sour look on his face. "You think you can say things like that without a scrap to back you up?" His foot begins tapping an angry beat.

Meanwhile, Syr peers out across the waters of the lake to the approaching turtle ferry. He squints his eyes at the figure waving an arm. The clothing is different, but there's something familiar about the stance. But what would he be doing out there? On a turtle ferry? And who were the other two? Could it be? Could that be ... Tionel? Tionel Galanodel?

Florin Jadenth AC:27/HP:156
Wednesday July 8th, 2009 9:50:57 PM

Florin has really nothing to add to what he wished from Tinder so while waiting for that to be handled he does a couple things. First he fishes the money he should owe Tinder yet and hands it over to the halfling, "This will cover what I would still owe you won't it?" Florin hands over the 250gps difference.

Florin then turns his attention to Syr as he notices his friend glanceing out over the water to the oncomeing turtle barge and frowns abit as he speaks to his friend, "What do your eyes spot out there Syr? Even being a elf my sight isn't as sharp as yours." Florin smiles at the small jab at himself.

Belkior - AC 25 (26 vs. Evil); HP 125/125 - Darkvision, Magic Circle vs. Evil, Status, Water Breathing
Wednesday July 8th, 2009 10:03:52 PM

The halfling cleric fidgets with his new Strand of Prayer Beads as he tries to determine the best place to carry them. Putting them on his wrist might get in the way and pinning them to his vestments might be too ostentatious and possibly vulnerable. Maybe Belkior should tuck them inside a pouch or something like that?

Belkior's attention is also drawn as Syr points out at the approaching ferry. He frowns, trying to recall exactly when the Shields last met up with Tionel Galanodel.

Mac observes Farfoot. He doesn't see any issue here, and he bears him no personal or other ill-will. He comes up with an idea: "If you intend to stay here in the city for a while, would you consider keeping my payment as a down-payment on something I cannot yet afford - to be squared up when I can provide you the balance for... a greater Belt of Giant Strength?" Mac figures this will at least (and also) give them an idea of the merchants short-medium term intentions (Sense Motive = 14 Yay!)

Jass visibly shrugs and turns from Syr and Brahmah; he is experienced enough not to pry into allies private thoughts. The thin man chuckles. It tends to keep them from beating on me, he thinks.

But a giant turtle being used as a taxi service is new and interesting. Jass watches with interest, especially since one of the passengers has been waving to the Crimson Shields. The sorcerer is pretty sure its not a wave for help but of recognition.

And so cheerily he waves back. "Heyho! Good to see you again!" he calls to the man he's never met. And then leans to Syr with a stage whisper and smile. "And who am I greeting?"

Return of the Native Son - DMAl
Thursday July 9th, 2009 9:02:02 PM

"Thank you," Tender Farfoot takes Florin's money and pours the coins into the same pouch into which Belkior's 1800 had gone. Then he turns to Mac.

"No, I'm sorry, I don't think it would be wise to extend any medium to long term loans. I'm not sure, you see, how long I'll be remaining in Floating City. But I will be in town for at least another few days, maybe even a week or two. If you come up with the extra money by then, or if you decide you want something else, you can reach me at the Giggling Ghost." To Mac's eye, the halfling is absolutely sincere, both in his uncertainty as to how long he will be staying as well as his desire to reward Mac for services rendered.

"You hear that?" The halfling turns on Brahmah, letting loose his pint-sized ire. "I try to be a fair person. Upright and fair. If you still want your portion of the reward, that's where I'll be. But I better not hear any more badmouthing from you, or I'll have the courts down on you. Understand?"

Then he turns and scurries up a rope ladder to the deck of his ship and begins to go through the goods in the hold of the ship, finding the items promised to the Crimson Shields.

Meanwhile, Belkior gazes out at the turtle ferry, thinking back to the time he first met the Crimson Shields. He had come in with a troop of City Guards, led by the same Captain Elvaran now on the docks. The group had just put down a group of rampaging citizens infected with an unusual plant disease. Tionel had been with the group when he had met them. It had been Syr, Tionel, Lang, Wynn, Xenia, Angus, and Florin had been human back then.

The disease had lead the group to the Crying Woods, and eventually to the crisis of the Fey King's awakening. After helping to lead the orphans out of the crippled and battered city, Tionel had decided to leave the group. And now here he was.

Jass waves. (Even though he doesn't know who he's waving at.) The figure on turtle-back pauses, and then waves back. Just a bit above five feet, the elf looks thin as a stick. His dark hair tumbles merrily about his shoulders. When the turtle pulls up to the dock, he leaps off and comes right to the Crimson Shields, leaving the other two with the job of securing their mount.

Syr notes the same perpetual smile, the same golden eyes glittering as if at some private joke. The colorful clothing, though was gone. The red breeches and the brown coat of the elf that had once styled himself as the Urban Druid were now replaced by the simple muted tunic of a forester. Oddly enough, the change of clothing seems to suit him.

"Hoy!" Tionel embraces first Syr, then Florin, Wynn, Belkior, and, after a pause and a what-the-heck shrug, Jass. "Where's Angus? Lang? Xenia?" The rail thin elf eyes the two minotaurs as though wondering whether to include them as well. "I'm here to bring you all back!"

Jass gives a hug right back. "Why, I am Angus in disguise", he explains to Tionel, "just don't say it too loud, cause the heat is on my tail."

After a pause or two, he cheerily gives a big wink and sits back, playing with a Prestidigitation cantrip by making little sparkles about his hands. "Nope, I'm a poor little lamb who has lost his way. Baa, bah, baa. The Crimson Shields of Hope gave me some food and a place to stay and now I'm following them around."

"Tionel, please excuse poor Jass here," Belkior says. The paragon glances sideways at Jass before speaking further.

"Like he said, we found him on the street and the Temple hostel didn't have room for another congenital prevaricator. The Temple let me take him home as an experiment to determine if he could be trained for useful work like sword and armor polishing. So far, swimming seems to be what he is best at."

Belkior then gestures towards the two minotaurs. "These fine fellows are Brahmah and Mac. I'm still a little unclear about where they came from, but they are good companions in a fight."

"What's this about going back?"

Mac considers the halfling's response before following him to the hold - climbing not being something he usually has a problem with. "That is a fair call, even if the risk was mine. Then I'll ask you for a regular belt of Giant Strength, and feel free to make up the difference as you see fit?" {OOC: by random roll is fine, I just can't think of anything right now.}
"Must be an unusual ship - most aren't made to come back from going that deep."

When and if negotiations are completed he returns to the Shields.

Florin Jadenth AC:27/HP:156

Florin smiles as he sees Tionel and returns the hug also, "It has been far to long my friend. I pray the Wold has been kind to you since we last seen each other....as for your questions I think Syr or such would be best to tell you." Florin glances to Syr, since Florin wasn't there when Lang met his fate and from what he had heard, a brave man Lang was indeed. Florin also takes a small glance at Wynn as he feels bad for the mention of Xenia around Wynn, knowing that the bard loved Xenia alot and that it must still be painful for him.

Old Friends Remember - DMAl

Mac vacillates, undecided as to what to ask for. But, perhaps, it is not a matter of not knowing what he wants, but, rather, being unable to express it in words. Just before giving up, the minotaur takes out pen and paper and makes a few quick marks before handing the marked slip to Tender Farfoot.

"Why certainly I have these things." The halfling consults his manifest again, pulling this item from that crate and that item from this. "Belt of Giant Strength, Gloves of Dexterity, Potion of Good Hope, Cloak of Resistance. Here you are." Then the halfling takes five platinum coins from Mac to make up the difference.

The new elf dressed in forest togs gives make a questioning look as the minotaur rejoins the group, as though unsure whether to include him or not. Then the entirety of the elf's confusion is consumed by the antics of Jass. The confusion lasts only so long as it takes Belkior to clear things up and introduce Mac and Brahmah, then it is replaced by Tionel's old irrepressible smile.

"Do you remember Sabara?" Tionel says in response to Belkior's question, just as the other two occupants of the turtle ferry arrive. Both are also elves, both in forest gear, both blond of hair, and somewhat shorter than Tionel. But the most striking of their features is the fact that they are identical twins.

"Oh," Tionel turns, "this is Starminder Trueflight. And this is Finbrush Trueflight." Both elves smile and incline their heads. Both smiles are identical. In fact, the only way to tell the difference between the two would seem to be the fact that Starminder carries with him a longbow, while Finbrush has a rapier and a handaxe on his belt. "Yes, I know, it takes a little getting used to," Tionel says. "Starminder and Finbrush are ... well, they're apprenticed to me." Tionel appears modest in his embarrassment. "Not that you'd think I had anything to teach ... "

"Well, where was I?" Tionel says.

"Sabara," Starminder chimes in.

"Yes, you speaking were of Sabara," Finbrush adds in a cheerful, but somewhat oddly broken Common.

"Right. It was just before the wakening of the Fey King Ebyron. Remember?" Tionel returns to his story. "We found Elvenguard, a village of elves, right in the midst of the Crying Woods. I don't think I'll ever forget that moment. Living in harmony in the midst of one of the most dangerous and malevolent living powers in the Wold."

"We met Prionell, the elder elf who presided over the dreaming in which all of the elves of the Wold sang to waken Ebyron. Remember? And do you remember his daughter, Prillana, and the time that she introduced us to her mother, Sabara?:

"She glided from the trees like a ghost, her legs never touching the ground. I felt bathed in a warm breeze, and upon that breeze I heard her voice. It was as if she hasn't spoken in hundreds of years."

"'Welcome to the Crying Jungle. I am Sabara.' she said. 'I am the soul of the jungle and its guide. The jungle has grown suddenly in strength and will. This is the only reason I can communicate with you now. Normally I can only make my presence felt to those closest to me. My family and select other elves.'

'My time is almost finished. My strength almost gone. Soon my daughter will have to take my place.'"

"Do you remember that?" Tionel asks, looking into the faces of those who were there, Syr, Florin, Wynn, and Belkior. "Well, Sabara is almost gone now and it's time for Prillana to take her place. There's to be a ceremony on the day of the new moon, and both Prionell and Prillana would like you to be there. It's an honor."

"So, that's why I'm here," Tionel breaks from his reverie and into his perpetual grin, "to take you back to the Crying Woods."

(Al: I lost the password for my google account so will take me just alittle bit to get the CS fully updated. Giveing you the heads up.)

Florin listens to what is said and nods abit, he remembers some of what Tionel comments on but it had been a long time ago it seems like in his life, "I remember alittle and no offense to the spirits of the woods there. Just alot has happened in my short life." Florin meaning his short life compared to that of the crying woods.

Florin does glance at the two elves curiously before smileing, "When I met the spirit I was a human if I remember correctly. Maybe when we visit I may learn more of the people I am now one of. This is knowledge the elves would be open to shareing I hope?" Florin has been doing his best to learn more about elves, specially now that he has been one for awhile. Most he has met or traveled with has known very little so he has hopes to gleam more from this then just the ceremony.

Jass AC 17 HP 79/60 (Mage Armor, False Life)
Sunday July 12th, 2009 6:40:38 PM

Jass is content to keep quiet and listen in to the new elf trio. After all, the more the poor southern continent orphan can learn about his new surroundings, the better chance he has to maybe get back home.

Although the occasional chortle comes out of his thin frame from remembering what Belkior said. "...best at swimming, hee hee."

Wynn
Monday July 13th, 2009 7:36:58 AM

Wynn reflects on his time in the crying Woods and how Sabara had reached out to them, He also remembered the exchanges between Xenia and Prillana and how Belkior had jumped overboard to divert their attention away from each other. And Prionel...Wynn was glad that the elf had managed to escape and return to his beloved woods.

"I am ready! the bard announces.

Time to Play - DMAl

Tionel takes a step back at Wynn's display of enthusiasm. "That's great!" He claps Wynn on the back and walks him to the side. "But ... you see," Tionel whispers, "I sort of promised Finbrush and Starminder that I'd show them Floating City. They've ... never been out of the Crying Woods before, and they've been ... Well, they've been looking forward to it."

Tionel turns back to find the Trueflight twins both grinning and nodding their heads, having overheard despite their master's whispers.

"There, you see," Tionel continues. "Besides, the day of the new moon isn't for some time now," and he names a date almost four weeks hence. Plenty of time to see the sites, drink the purple wine, and maybe ... meet some human girls." A red blush comes to the cheeks of both elves at the last item on Tionel's list.

"Plenty of time. Maybe you can help show them around, Florin. You can ask them about being an elf while they get a look at the city. Don't let them speak to you in elfish either. They're also here to practice their Common."

Then, rounding on Mac, Tionel returns with a jaunty, "Hi! You must be new. Tionel Galanodel, very pleased to meet you." The five foot elf extends a hand to the towering minotaur. "But, I haven't heard anything about hundred-foot trees." The turns to the Trueflight Twins. "Hundred-foot trees?"

"But, then again, the Crying Wood is also known for moving things around as it pleases. So, who knows? Shall we go? The ex-urban druid strides up the dock toward the City Gate. His head swivels as he gawks at the body of the Kraken, hanging limp in the dry dock cradle, arms and tentacles trailing in the water. "That's new," he says.

OoC: To lay things out more explicitly, you have about 3 weeks, game time, to take care of whatever you want to do in town before you absolutely must leave for the Crying Woods. At least if you want to arrive at the ceremony in time.

During that time, you can do whatever you want within the parameters of possibility. Crafting, caring for Shield Construction, investigating, anything.

Belkior - AC 25 (26 vs. Evil); HP 125/125 - Darkvision, Magic Circle vs. Evil, Status, Water Breathing
Monday July 13th, 2009 9:22:07 PM

The halfling cleric blushes when he realizes what these elves are interested. Still, Belkior must do his duty.

"Ahhh ... if you should need, you can look me up at the house. Or ... the Temple of Alemi might be able to provide ... ahh ... discreet services. If that's what you require, that is."

The Paragon briefly converses with his companions before heading back to the house to begin working on his next crafting project.

Jass waits for the Crimson Shields who know Tionel to renew thier acquaintances, but when the elf begins speaking with Mac, well, he knows its time for the new guys to meet. The sorcerer waits for an opening and then spritely steps up, his Prestidigitation making a nimbus glow around his head.

"Good business, well meeting, many shadows, bah strangers, and anything else you say when saying hello." He grins an urchin grin. "I am Jass of Downs, a sorcerer newly arrived by a rather abrupt teleport. It is interesting to know that there are elvish conclaves in other places than Dre Moria."

And with that, the ecletic conversation is off. Jass tells of himself and how he got to Floating City, "the circles must have been part of the whole Great Migration". In between his narrative he asks all about the Crying Woods (elves, other creatures, it moves and thinks?), and the importance of a ceremony at New Moon.

"You guys can stay with us, no need to use coin on inns if you don't have to, right Florin?" Jass dominates the conversation all the way back to the Crimson Shields house on Merchants Level. He points out everthing that he has learned about cities in general (from his time in Hook City) and Floating City in particular to the hayseed elves. And when memory fails, the thin sorcerer unabashedly makes things up! :-)

Once back at Crimson Shields headquarters, Jass takes a piece of foolscap and jots down things he wants to do between now and when the group leaves the city.

- learn more about Big Float
- learn/help with construction company
- spells for construction?
- permenancy
- decorate room

He looks at the list and smiles. "Looks like I've got plenty to do!" He looks around for Syr, "now it is just seeing how my magiks can help Syr's construction company..."

Once the group arrives Florin speaks to the elves an smiles, "I hope it won't be a bother but how about later I take you up to where my wife and child live and show you around. On the way we can talk about elven history and such. I really would be interested in knowing more. I can also introduce you to my family if you would like."

The Trip Back to Merchant Level - DMAl
Tuesday July 14th, 2009 9:18:24 PM

Belkior offers the safe clean services of the temple of Flower via the offices of Alemi who have ever held a good relationship with those who worship love. Tionel's grin grows just that much wider, and he turns to flash a wink at the Trueflight twins. Starminder and Finbrush exchange looks of bewilderment. Something seems to have been said, but neither of the twin elves has the faintest idea what it might have been.

"Potion?" The halfling reaches down from the deck of the ship, raised up in dry dock. "Indeed I do." He disappears for a moment, then returns, lowering a sack down to Wynn on a string.

The group begins moving toward home as the newcomer blithely invites Tionel and the two elves to the home of the Crimson Shields. Tionel gives the older Shields a helpless look as Jass goes on about Dre Morias, circles, and Great Migrations. The look says, 'Tell me that you know what this guy is talking about.'

For a brief moment, Tionel has to be steered in the right direction. "You rebuilt the Apartments?" he says, and heads off toward Rogue's Alley. But, that doesn't last long, and the group gets moving again headed for Merchant Level. While Jass regales the group with his newly gained knowledge of Floating City, Tionel tells of his misadventures since leaving the group.

He had wandered the broken city alone and disillusioned with life after the terrible death and destruction wreaked by the Crying Woods during the waking of Ebyron the Fey King. The slaughter of many of the orphans and the sacrifice of Gordo had hit him hard. Finally, he had turned into a hawk and simply flown out over the lake. Eventually, he found himself in the Crying Woods. The druid wandered aimlessly, only tangentially interested in possibly finding Elvenguard. He went to the place he thought the elfish village should be, but it was no longer there. Wandering, however, was enough for Tionel. Lost and alone, he roamed the Crying Woods. Several time he came close to losing his life at the hands of different monsters. But that didn't seem to matter. Finally, near death, he collapsed. His bones, he thought, were to feed the floor of the woods, but it was not to be.

He woke later on a soft bed, high in the trees. A party of elves had found him and brought him to Elvenguard. Over the course of weeks and months, he regained his strength. More than that, however, he regained a sense of purpose, and with that, his old sense of optimism.

"So, you see, though I feel as though I'm one of them," Tionel says, "I've only been in Elvenguard for a few months. I don't actually know much about the ceremony except that they call it ... well, it translates from Elfish as the Entwining. And it is extremely important to the elves. Their whole way of life depends on it."

"So ... " Tionel whistles as the group arrives at the Shield properties. "This is your new place? It's big." He turns to get the reaction of the Twins, but they seem to be paying more attention to Jass than to anything else, both deeply engrossed in his lesson on cities.

"Florin! You're married? I was going to ask you about that ward you had taken up with. Jella, right? We'd love to meet your family." Tionel looks at Wynn again, raising a questioning eyebrow. "In the meantime, why don't you show us where we'll be bunking."

Belkior excuses himself and retires to his room and the crafting project that awaits. The time is very near noon. It's been a busy morning.

Wynn
Tuesday July 14th, 2009 10:50:27 PM

Wynn helps Tionel and his two companions get settled in the apartment. "You can stay up here" he shows them the spacious room that he and Xenia had occupied. "It's too big for just me, but the three of you should be fine here, and it has a great view of the back garden and the treed park beyond the wall" The bard gathers a few of his things and vacates the room.

Truth be known, he has not slept in the room since their return, prefering to sleep on a sofa in the common room, or take a bed at the inn rather than face the memories that pervade the bedroom he had once shared with Xenia.

Belkior - AC 25 (26 vs. Evil); HP 125/125 - Darkvision, Magic Circle vs. Evil, Status, Water Breathing
Tuesday July 14th, 2009 10:59:59 PM

The halfling cleric hums quietly as he begins working on his new project. Not an annoying hum, just a quiet soto voce rendition of one of his favourite hymns to Alemi that Belkior thinks of when he is concentrating on something. Only someone passing close by the door to his rooms in the house would hear the Paragon humming to himself.

Mac: AC:26, HP:137
Wednesday July 15th, 2009 4:26:26 AM

Mac follows the conversations, and at some point - probably over a meal - he quietly announces, "I have a pair of gauntlets of Ogre power I'm willing to part with for 5% less than you'll buy them at the Catacombs regular price. If two or more people express an interest then there will be a drawing of lots. If noone is interested I'll sell it to the 'combs just before we leave. So, any takers?"

Florin Jadenth AC:27/HP:156
Wednesday July 15th, 2009 5:36:16 PM

Florin smiles to Tionel and nods, "Yes, sometime after leaveing the group I met Ivy and started spending time with her. With some help from the Swords of Light that I temaed up with, I asked for her hand and got married. We can stop by later for you all to meet her and see Jella."

Florin spends some time at the apartments with the others and listens to the coversations and such as he just relaxes some. The underwater activities were more annoying then anything and he has had his fill of swimming for awhile thats for sure.

Depending on what is done, later in the day but before sun down he offers to show Tionel and Tionel's two elvesn friends to his house to visit. Along the way he will gladly point out some of the things that may be of interest to the twins and also answer any questions they might bring up to him.

Jass AC 17 HP 79/60 (Mage Armor, False Life)
Wednesday July 15th, 2009 6:32:01 PM

Jass listens but doesn't get any good information from Tionel than the elf does from the sorcerer. Well, except for the Entwining. "The Ent Winning? No, entwine, as in letting the vines grab you until you are a cocoon and choked to death. Hmmm..." The human doesn't seem very enthusiastic even through his forced humor.

"So, if this ceremony has happened lots of times before, what is special about the Crimson Shields being a part of it now? And", he looks to Florin and Syr, "I'm assuming that if all the Crimson Shields have to go there, that includes little ol' me?"

Wednesday July 15th, 2009 7:10:02 PM

Silent until now, Syr raises an eyebrow at Tionel, "Girls? It's good to see some things never change." The elf chuckles at the druid. When Tionel begins talking about elven history, he becomes quiet as if almost embarrassed that he has no idea what the druid is talking about. He mumbles to himself, "Mother Flauset never told me anything about it and I turned out fine."

He looks over at Jass with a grin, "Don't worry Jass, We are having the invitation printed just for 'lil ole you!" He punches the man playfully in the arm, "Of course you are invited! How could you not be?"

The Evening Winds Down - DMAl
Wednesday July 15th, 2009 8:20:09 PM

Wynn offers the room once occupied by he and Xenia. One problem arises immediately. The room as only the single large bed. Tionel, however, solves the problem by offering to take the bed for himself. The Twins, claiming to be more comfortable outside anyway, offer to sleep out on the veranda.

Belkior hums away while he crafts, while, in the dining room, Mac offers his old gauntlets in for sale. The minotaur notices, though, that everyone else already owns some form of strength enhancing magic. The only ones who do not, are Belkior, who appears to be sworn to a pacifist creed, and Jass, who is .... well, Jass.

"Entwining don't happen in my lifetime." Finbrush says to Jass in reply to his disappointment at the quality of information from Tionel. Or ... is it Starminder who replies to Jass? Whichever it is, however, both seem eager to please.

Evening rolls around, and some take time out to make the trip to Florin's place up one level on Gold. Ivy, Florin's wife, is a gracious hostess. Jella, Florin's ward, and now adopted daughter is charming. The two elven twins actually find it easier to speak to Jella, and all three spend the evening exchanging the stories and the views of their lives in the woods and in the city, respectively.

The next day comes, though, as next days will. There is business to tend to, preparations to make, and possibly, knowledge to be uncovered for those with the wit to find it.

If you wish further information, please don't hesitate to ask. The reason my answer was so superficial was due to the vast breadth of the question. A more specific question will net more specific answers. Feel free to extend the questioning over several posts if you need to narrow in on what you wish to know.

Another reason for the shallow nature of my answer was the fact that my post was getting far longer than it should have been in the first place.

Jass AC 17 HP 79/60 (Mage Armor, False Life)
Thursday July 16th, 2009 7:37:10 AM

Jass smiles companionably at Syr. The thin wizard may have helped a very little on the Kraken and is part of the construction contract, but he's only been in Floating City a couple of days and that hardly has made him comfortable with calling himself a Crimson Shield! The next three weeks together with the group and moving around Floating City puts the Southern Continent expatriot more at ease among his new friends.

"No thanks for me", Jass tells Mac while idly scratching his haystack-like hair, "Magic to get me stronger is just magic that makes others want me to do manual labor". He shudders at the very idea.

The next day, Jass brings in some food to his room and asks for some privacy. He's secluded all day, but the reward is worth not being the center of attention: Jass now has a Permenant Tongues spell!

In the next week, Jass spends a lot of time at the construction and warehouse sites, getting to know the employess and looking at the security arrangements. He tells Syr and Dotta that he's acquired a couple of "Wall" spells that he can set up in the warehouse to confuse a possible snooper. "Like if you keep all the material in one particular area, I'll magik up an illusiory wall that people can walk through but will look just like the rest of the warehouse." For permenant alarms, Jass is less prepared. "What about guard geese for the place?"

Syr spends most of his time at the construction site. Talking to Jass who accompanies him on more than one occasion, "Mother Flauset raised me in an orphanage. She didn't raises us to become adventurers although many of us did in the beginning but she did teach us that life is short and not to sit around and wait for things to happen. Kinda funny looking back since I'm Elvish if ya didn't know. Anyway, I just don't like having too much free time. Believe it or not, Florin wasn't always Elvish, Belk didn't have those froggie legs either. Some people changed more drastically when Eberyon went wild. Others not so crazy. Did it affect you?"

At Jass' offer, "Those Wall spells sound like a good idea, do you have to maintain them?"

Florin Jadenth AC:27/HP:156  d20+7=23 ;
Thursday July 16th, 2009 5:22:47 PM

Florin spends time with his family and talking to the elf twins and Tionel. Also takeing a small trip down to the construction site and checking up there. Also checking to see where the work order on the forge stands since he is curious about that.

Dureing some of his off time Florin does have an idea and speaks to the twins and Tionel, "Hey guys, I was wondering of something. Would it be proper to offer a gift to the next spirit of the woods? Figure since it is a special occasion and all you know." Florin makes comments about putting his silversmithing skills to work on a small project, if nothing else something that could just be offered as a gift or such. If the idea sounds good then Florin goes to work decideing to work on a pendant that would depict nature, trying to think over his time in the crying woods as he does and also trying to get ideas from the twins on the design.

(Without reading the rules I have no idea how many rolls or such would be needed so beginning roll. Silverworking:23)

First Week - DMAl
Thursday July 16th, 2009 9:07:31 PM

Locked way in his room working diligently at crafting an item of power, Belkior wonders idly how many of the potions that they had bought before entering the water they had used. In his memory he counts the use of only four Darkvision potions, and recalls that, thanks to his spell, none of the Waterbreathing potions was used at all.

After assurances that he too is considered a full fledged member of the Crimson Shields, Jass like Belkior, sequesters himself away in his room. When he emerges the next day, the quirky man from the far off Downs is magically a master of languages.

Wynn too keeps his own company, slipping out every evening, returning only with the light of day. Each night he leaves to pursue his mysterious affairs. What is he up to? (Extensive reply sent by email.)

Brahmah goes his own way as well. Only Syr, Florin, and later, Jass, work together, tending to Shield Construction. One week after the battle with the Kraken, work on the forge that Florin had commissioned on the Crimson Shield properties is complete. He christens the small workshop with the creation of a small gift.

Work on the northwest pillar on Gold Level goes well. The construction crew take well to the new materials. Dotta ensures that a careful inventory of the materials is made and that all of it is accounted for at the end of each day. At the end of the first week, an auditor from the Office of the Overlord arrives for a surprise inspection. After inspecting both the books, and the inventory itself, he leaves, satisfied that all is well.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OoC: You'll need to read those rules, Florin. Use the d20 if you have to. At the upper levels, I will often be so busy controlling the action that I will have no time to help you. More and more, you'll have to rely on your own resources to guide you. I can tell you that you need to decide how expensive an item you want to craft *first*. That will determine how many weeks the crafting will take. I'll also tell you that you only have two weeks in which to finish it.

"Completely permenant without concentration", assures Jass to Syr. "I've got two Illusory Wall scrolls and one Wall of Stone, all of which are permentant once I cast them." Jass will help Dotta and Syr set up the location for one Illusiory Wall as a security measure during the second week of being on the Big Float. "Won't stop the Jack of Diamonds, but should help against less experienced thieves", the sorcerer assures Dotta.

Knowing a little more about the Floating City, Jass sets off in the Merchants Level to purchase furnishings for his small suite of rooms at Crimson Shields. He looks for low-set couch, chairs in a crimson damask and low tables in a natural light wood for the front room. A large feather bed with silk douvet, diaphanous wall hangings, and thin wood tables and chests of a pale wood completes his sleeping area. Finally, he searches high and low for the perfect chinaware tea set, Sargrass tapestries for the walls, and druable plants that can stand a little neglect. "AHhhh, this is more like it".

While scouring the Float for his items, he invites one or more of the elves to come with him. During thier walks, he occasionally asks his own questions like...
- so why is it called the "Entwining"?
- What happens during the "Entwining" ceremony?
- Why are the Crimson Shields supposed to be there? and
- What are the rules for walking in the Crying Woods without getting killed?

Nodding at Jass' excited expression, "The wall of stone thing, I know. We've seen Belkior do it a time or two. The fake walls seem pretty good though for hiding things."

Rather than disturb the little halfing during his work, Syr places both the waterbreathing potion and darkvision outside his door.

Once complete, he walks into Florin's new forge looking around, "Not bad... now you can even put real horseshoes on Ajax!" With a grin he comments, "Remember when Tionel used the space out back for a garden? My how times have changed." He tries to spend the remaining evenings catching up with the druid and preventing the druid from catching ... things he doesn't want from the women that he does.

Wynn
Friday July 17th, 2009 6:39:27 PM

Wynn returns each day to the apartments and during the late afternoon he lets the others know what he has been up to.

"I've been curious about this 'Jack of Diamonds' character and just what his interest is in our building and the materials provided to us. I think I've shared an ale in every inn and tavern below the Open Level and have learrned a great deal, although much of it is contradictory. I believe this 'Jack' is associated with the Lords of Diamond, a group of thrill seekers, who hide their individual identities. From their clothing, and from the quality of their magical equipment, they are thought to be nobles. Some say, disaffected sons of noble houses. Jack may be their leader."

There was a fellow in the Message in a Bottle Inn that seemed put out by some of the ill talk I generated about this Jack. I could go back there and pose as a disinherited noble and see what I might learn...maybe even get invited into the group. What do you think?"

First Two - DMAl
Friday July 17th, 2009 9:26:08 PM

Tionel goes carousing every night, and sleeps in everyday until around noon. The elven twins climb down from the veranda each morning so as not to disturb him. As a consequence, the twins find themselves exploring the Floating City on their own much of the time. One day, Starminder (or is it Finbrush?) no, it's Finbrush (he wears the double weapons) accompanies Jass on one of his walks.

"Entwining is ... " The elf hooks his fingers together. "Like vine." He tries to answer Jass' questions in his broken Common until Jass replies in an elfish that is not only natural and colloquial, but also dialectically identical to his own speech. Finbrush looks surreptitiously about to see if either Tionel or Starminder is about. Then, with a sigh of relief, he reverts to his native elfish.

"To be Entwined is to become joined to the Crying Woods," he explains. "Now, Sabara is Entwined with the Woods. It is why we may live within the Crying Woods in peace. But Sabara grows old. She weakens. It is time for Prillana to take her place. Prillana will be Entwined with the Crying Woods and Sabara will be returned to us. I'm sorry, I don't know what happens during the ceremony itself, Friend Jass." The elf appears genuinely sorry that he can't be of more help. "I have never seen a ceremony. The last one was performed well before my lifetime."

"And you needn't fear the journey to Elvenguard. Not while you are with us. Sabara watches over us. The Crying Woods would not harm you while you were in our company. I think that its because of your affinity to Sabara that Prionell has honored you by inviting you to observe the Entwining. You actually saw her. We feel her, but very few actually see her. And you are outsiders as well. That is quite extraordinary Prionell must believe that you are blessed in some way."

Mac finds Silverwing's Palace of Lavation on Gold Level. It's an enormous public bath on Diamond Street. In addition to the relaxing hot pools, they have saunas and a cold pool, ever filled by a large cascading waterfall.

Brahmah and Syr keep Florin company as he works in the forge, smelting, molding, and then shaping pure silver. Syr accompanies Tionel on one of his forays into Floating City's night scene. Late into the evening and much into the cups, Tionel turns a bleary wine soaked eye to his fellow elf.

"You know, Syr, this is not something you can do in Elvenguard." He shakes his head. "Not at all. This is not the kind of life they lead. But I don't mind. I think I've found my place over there. For the first time, I feel ... a sense of belonging. I don't have to try to be a druid. I just am. This is my last fling. Before I say goodbye to all of it. Here's to one last fling." And Tionel raises his mug to meet Syr's.

Later on, Wynn gathers the Crimson Shields. He tells the group what he's been up to each night, and it isn't the same thing Tionel's been up to. He proposes a bold plan, and asks the others of their opinions.

Florin Jadenth AC:27/HP:156  d20+7=11 ;

(OOC:I hope I read the info for crafting right and went ahead and made one more check to see if I might beable to make something abit more interesting but since it wouldn't of worked I'll stick with the lower cost to keep the two week thing. This is ok I hope Al?)

(Florin is trying to craft a amulet (30gps value=300sp...the amulet DC i used was for a well crafted item which I believe was DC:15) Takeing the Craft silverworking:23 and x it by 15 gives 345. So I believe one week would of worked. Now I just have to knock the price off Florin's sheet or to make it simple. Al how much would enough silver to make a amulet cost or just a lump of silver? I'll take the price off Florin's sheet and if he had enough to buy say a lb then he should have left over. Also thanks for being patient, is nice to be learning the rules on crafting better :) .)

Florin is happy to have the amulet he had been working on finished and shows it to the twins and Tionel to get their opinion, "I hope this will be a nice gift. Actually I hate to say it but it's really one of my first works since I've barely used the skill."

Florin plans to help out around where he can and thinks about trying a harder projuect later when he has more time, however he needs to ponder a worthy but still some what simple task. His armor smithing is abit better so maybe he should try that in the future.

The halfling cleric takes a break from his work and, still humming, makes his way to the common room of the house. Once Belkior finds some of the others, he waits until he ask a question without interrupting.

"These unused potions ... did everyone want to keep them for the party, or can I sell them and try to make something else?"

Jass AC 13 HP 60/60 (Tongues)
Saturday July 18th, 2009 7:14:22 AM

Jass enjoys speaking and understanding the special dialect of the Crying Woods elves, and Finbrush Two-Swords gives him some semblance of knowledge and understanding. The sorcerer tells the Crimson Shields his findings over dinner along with his opinions.

"So this seems simple. We get to observe a religious ceremony of some neighbors to Floating City and as part of that, the Crimson Shields can increase in respect and influence. Keep doing things like this, and we can be the ambassadors and arbitrators for the whole region!" He smiles and shrugs. "And besides the Floating City and the Crying Woods, how big is this region anyways?"

Jass really isn't interested in the answer, and focus' instead on Wynn's suggestion. "It would be a good way to get information if it works," he begins, "but lets look at it from the Lords of Diamonds point of view. They seem uncommonly aware of the Crimson Shields from what you've told me about the Jack of Diamonds (Jass still hasn't seen the man face to face). If I were the Lords of Diamonds with access to limitless money and magic, I would check out your backstory, yes I would. You would be subject to experts in sensing your motive, private investigators checking out banks, land titles, and business contacts. You'd have spells cast your way like Discern Lie, Scry, Divination, Contact Other Plane, and even Wish."

The sorcerer cocks his head. "Can you stand up to that scrutiny? Could any of us?" He shakes his head. "More like we would just alert the Lords that we are infiltrators and labeled as enemy instead of currently neutral."

"Is very nice wristlet, Florin," Starminder Trueflight says when Florin shows the Crying Woods elf is first work of silversmithing. "A gift made from hand, carries wealth of heart," he adds. "Is elven saying. To who will you present this thing, Florin?" Starminder asks.

Belkior makes a rare appearance, coming from his room to ask what the group would like done with the extra darkvision and waterbreathing potions. It's just as well that the little halfling is there. Information is to be had from both Jass and Wynn. Information to be had, and a decision to be made.

Jass is the first to express his opinion of Wynn's bold, and yet very possibly rash, idea.

OoC: Crafting: "Pay one-third of the item's price for the cost of raw materials." For a 30gp bracelet, that would be 10gp, Florin. But, don't worry about it. At this level 10gp isn't worth keeping track of. I'll leave the description of the bracelet up to you.

On another note, I haven't heard anything back from the PTB on approval for the new module. I send them a follow up email just today. I'll let you know what they say when I receive a reply.

You don't know when we'll need this information. I'll be even more discreet, just do some singing, tell a few stories, and keep my eyes open."

The bard spends the next several evenings performing in the inns on Merchant and Gold level and keeping his eyes peeled for anyone who looks like the fellow known as the Jack of Diamonds. What is the real identity of the Jack of Diamonds?

"Now that's a great idea!" smiles Jass, "the more you know the less chance someone puts an unexpected dagger in your stomach. Remind me to tell you how I know that sometime..."

Jass will use his own time this last week to keep establishing his other two alter egos. With good use of his Alter Self and natural charm, the Dwarven merchant Belar Kreigsgaard keeps looking for factors who are interested in backing an expedition to Turak Nor and returning with precious dwarven art. The half-elf, Birch, also plies his trade, now claiming to be a younger grandson of the First Councilman of Dre Moria. Though in self-imposed exile, Birch is confident that political contacts can be established.

Jass isn't looking for anything in particular at this point, only trying to establish these characters in Floating City. If any info pops his way, he will carefully put it in his mind for future reference...

Florin Jadenth AC:27/HP:156

Florin is happy that the bracelet (was a amulet but since Al changed I'll go with it :) .) and thinks before speaking, "The spirits of the woods you mentioned. Do they normally or will they keep a physical body? I was thinking of offering it to the next inline that we were going to meet but maybe I should offer it to your village elder...are trinkets or such offered for such a things that you know of? I just don't want to see out of place by doing this."

Florin offers to pitch in where he can otherwise and speaks to Syr, "I'm more for heavy lifting then anything and such, is there something in that area I can help out with? Maybe with the company or something?" Florin figures there might be help in hauling stuff or something that he can help out with and is willing to put his muscles and back to work.

Florin also doesn't mind the idea of selling the potions if that is the best think. He also takes a moment to visit Belkior when he has a chance and speaks to his friend, "Hey Belkior, I was wondering. How much would it cost to create a wand of cure moderate wounds? I can use one after a battle to give you some help. I also have a small amount of cash so if I can cover it and when you have time I would be willing to commission you."

The Last Week - DMAl
Tuesday July 21st, 2009 9:39:03 PM

The next few days for Wynn are more relaxing. Playing inns and taverns seems more entertainment than work. Though his eyes are peeled, he sees no one that he would recognize as the Jack of Diamonds. Mornings, he jots a question or two on the mysterious scroll that the Shields had found in the cave of the dragon, Hot Shot. The ink of the third question is scarce dry, when below the bard's words, more writing appears.

The real identity is to be had in the place to which she has gone.
I have felt her fear, and they are one.
Evil is as evil does.
A threat too, is as you make it,
Quiet till a threat makes itself known.

Jass spends his time in a different way. He inadvertently discovers the effectiveness of his stratagem one day, when, while disguised as Birch, he finds himself in the Message in a Bottle inn. As usual, the place is full of influential merchants and government functionaries. The half-elfish Birch strikes up a conversation with a bureaucrat from the Office of the Overlord. After some talk of the far land of Dre Moria, including vague descriptions as to where it might be, this bureaucrat begins ask Birch about a place called Turak Nor and whether he's acquainted with a dwarf by the name of Belar Kreigsgaard. It seems that the Office of the Overlord has no record of his entry into the city, and they would like to speak to this dwarf in regards to the subject of how he arrived. It occurs to Birch, then, that there is unlikely to be a record of his entrance into the city either.

While the two minotaurs care for their equipment, and Belkior continues his crafting, Syr spends some personal time with his construction crew. They welcome he, Mac and Florin as one of them. Syr's presence in particular seems to cheer their mood. They go about their work with pride, and a pace born of confident professionalism. The interior of the pillar appears nearly done. The stairs inside are sturdy and serviceable. There is still, however, a gapping tear in the outside of the pillar that exposes the interior for all to see. All in all, though, the job appears nearly half complete.

The brothers Trueflight tell Florin that they've never actually seen Sabara, so they don't know whether Prillana would wear jewelry after the Entwining. Though, from Florin's recollection, the ghostly figure of Sabara it would be unlikely. Prionell, the elder druid, didn't seem to be one much for jewelry either. But, maybe there would be someone. Finbrush suggests that Florin speak to Prillana and see if there might be someone suitable.

Over the next succeeding days, Tionel spends less and less time out at night. While Wynn and Mac practice with arms in the back garden, Tionel putters about, tending to the plants. The week nears its end, and one evening, the ex-urban druid calls his friends - old and new - together for a meeting.

"It's nearly a week till the new moon," he says. "It didn't take long to get here from Elvenguard, but it never hurts to give travel some extra time. I think we should leave tomorrow. Can you be ready?"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hopefully, that bean counter won't stiff us and Jack leaves Sheild Construction alone while we are away."

Florin nods at Syr's comment and gently pats his friend's shoulder, "I understand your comment all to well Syr." Florin motions towards the way to Gold level where his family lives and smiles, "Jella seems bigger each time I see her you know. One day I she is going to beable to beat me in the swordmanship also. I wonder what she'll become when she gets older...will she be like we are or will she settle down. I'm thinking of asking Belkior to show her around the temple of Alemi sometime. The priests of Domi are good healers but I have seen few that can beat the Alemi healers. I see why Domi gets along with Alemi so well."

Thinking of all this and seeing Belkior out finally he smiles, "Hello Belkior. Do you have sometime to talk?" If Belkior agrees the Florin speaks to him on the matter of Jella, telling him that Florin isn't trying to pressure her into becomeing anything but wanting her to know her choices are open and to decide carefully. In this spirit he would like to know if Belkior would take Jella on a field trip of sorts to the temple of Alemi sometime.
