Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 82/86 Wednesday July 22nd, 2009 12:44:57 AM
"Sounds good to me Edmund!" Revi then takes out the two enchanted morningstars they have acquired earlier, and started smashing the cart wreakage, into smaller bits of wreakage to feed the fire faster and hotter.

I'll hold until tomorrow afternoon for more player posts.
Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 17) Mage Armoured, Fox's Cunning Wednesday July 22nd, 2009 1:59:05 AM
Edmund is not much good at smashing up the wreckage, but he can carry it from Revi the Wrecking Ball to the fire. This he does as fast as he can, piling the wood onto the conflagration in an attempt to make the Wold's Biggest Bonfire.
"Hope this works!" he says to Revi.
Arm[HP 33/33 AC 22] d8+5=11 ; d20+13=25 ; d20+7=10 ; Wednesday July 22nd, 2009 6:01:11 AM
Arm grimaces, imagining the pain that must have been to pull the arrow out. As quietly as he can, he begins casting a spell to help Ruby (cure light wounds-heal 11 pts dmg, which should take care of any additional wound from pulling the arrow out). "That should make it better," he whispers to Ruby, then adds, "What we need to do is get back to the rest as soon as possible...it's certainly not safe here.". Leading her gently, he turns around and tries to find their way back (listen=25, spot=10).
OOC: Sans map, I'm not sure how far we are into the woods...can we see Ed's bonfire? If so, Arm will head cautiously toward it.

Wynum AC18 19/42hp Daylight d20+9=17 ; d20+3=22 ; Wednesday July 22nd, 2009 12:21:30 PM
Exalted, Wynum doesn't notice that much the grievous wounds inflicted by the arrows and raises the petrified fist hanging on his neck. "Enough! Damn beerbugs! Release the damsel at once! Reveal yourselves, cowards!"
Touching the petrified hand, he releases a powerful light which bathes the woods and evens out the odds with the 'bugs. He then hustles to close on the nearest bugbear(s).
{OOC: Cast Daylight from Hand of Glory 60'+60' dim. I assumed there's a bugbear within 60' because of their darkvision's range. Wynum will rush to threaten the bugbear in range that's the furthest away from all other bugbears, in hope of being more than 60' from them. Lastly, it seems the woldian house rule for shooting into melee has disappeared from the 'pedia. Nellie can you confirm the ruling you're using? AoO in case of: Highlight to display spoiler: {Trip attack hit TouchAC 17, check 22 (DC is 10+Str mod)}}

((OOC: Wynum, there was a fire already at the camp. Considering that one can cast spells, tie enemies up, scale cliffs, climb trees, and even mount a horse in combat, I think it not too unreasonable to suggest that it is also possible to pick up wood and toss it onto a pre-existing fire which is several feet away. Hopefully the DM will agree.))

In the now quiet woods, the skirmish continues.
Arm leads Ruby back toward the campsite after healing her wound (Arm and Ruby will be back to the campsite next round with a double move). It's not too terribly hard, considering that there's a campfire going (and now being stoked by Edmund and Revi). As he is retreating, he hears the sound of a scuffle further into the woods. He thinks he even hears a quadruped moving around in the darkness.
Shadow looks around and finally spots a big 'ol spider up in the trees to his left. He also hears the sound of something galloping further into the forest. And then things get tricky. The big 'ol spider shoots another web from his rear and this time Shadow is covered in the nasty goopy web. (You can can escape with a successful DC 13 Escape Artist check or burst the web with a successful DC 17 Strength check. No movement is allowed while in the web.) There is a brief flash of light and then Thar feels his muscles weakening (3 Str. loss).
Wynum charges in and activates his magical hand. Bright light immediately fills the area. Caught off guard by the sudden change in lighting, the four bugbears squint (dazzled...-1 to attacks this round) as they drop their bows and arm themselves with their morningstars. With low growls, they close in on the centaur and pummel him cruelly. (19 damage).
In the forest, Arm and Ruby see a flash of light, and then see Wynum surrounded by attacking bugbears. (Arm and Ruby are within the "dim light" area.) Edmund and Revi catch a flash of light out in the woods and then things get a bit brighter just outside the campfire light.
OOC: Florian, I'm not sure of a Woldian rule on firing into combat. I'll use the PHB's -4 penalty. :)
Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 17) Mage Armoured, Fox's Cunning Thursday July 23rd, 2009 1:13:07 AM
Edmund furiously piles wood onto the fire, knowing full well that he is no good at healing or helping with medical arts.
"Arm, Ruby, if you're alright, do you mind giving me a hand here?" he asks them. "We're piling the broken cart onto the fire, so that the others can quickly find their way back--which I hope they will do directly."
Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 82/86 Thursday July 23rd, 2009 4:56:27 AM

Arm[HP 33/33 AC 22] d20+9=16 ; d8+6=8 ; Thursday July 23rd, 2009 5:58:41 AM
Nodding at Ruby, Arm takes off toward the flash of light and engages the nearest bugbear menacing Wynum, if he can get there that is (attk: 16, dmg: 8).
OOC: Sorry Ed, but we wouldn't have gotten there until next round at a double move, and we've been occupied with Wynum's plight...be there soon. ;)
Shadow [AC 20/15 HP 47/47] d20+7=11 ; d20+1=8 ; Thursday July 23rd, 2009 9:29:21 AM
Shadow tries to free himself from the spiderweb, but is unsuccessful as he wiggles and moves his body parts almost in ways that seem would cause tremendous pain or in ways that do not seem normal. He then tries to force his way out and is again unsuccessful. "I might need some help here." He calls out as he takes a look at the spider to see what it is doing.

{Mmm OK I sort of figured the buggies would be spread apart, ambush style... That wasn't terribly wise, sorry guys... }
With the sound of rotten tree crashing down, the centaur neatly falls down in a confused, unconscious pile. HOWEVER, it must duly noted, that having gone to sleep earlier, he would have removed his croupbags and hence, not have his last wine jug with him. Ah! Thus is foiled the winebugs plan. They might have my spirits, but they won't get my booze.

((OOC: Arm-- Oops! I read that and then forgot about it when I wrote my post, sorry. Amended below.))
Edmund continues to pile wood on as he sees a brightness near the edge of the clearing.
"Well they must be getting close," Edmund says as he breathlessly piles wood onto the growing blaze. "I don't think the enemy would be making lights in the wood, seeing as how their whole game is to play in the darkness and doubtless lead us off into all sorts of traps and pits and so on."
"Return to the camp!" he shouts again. "Now!"
Thar AC 23/24, 69/70 hps, Mag Circle vs. Evil d20+5=19 ; Thursday July 23rd, 2009 2:08:28 PM
Thar continues struggling in the web and yells out loud, "Shadow and I are trapped in these webs and we need some help! There's a spider shooting webs, so beware!!!" He does, however, feel weakened by some sort of effect, but continues resolutely on...
He continues trying to break loose from the web...
Escape Artist = 19....
Once he escapes, he moves behind a tree and at the first chance, moves to aid Shadow in escaping... (without getting webbed himself...)
Ruby [HP: 74/74 - AC: 24(cover)][][] d20+12=28 ; d6+3=5 ; Thursday July 23rd, 2009 6:37:51 PM
Ruby smiles at Arm. "Thanks...I don't want to do that again." She then turns to follow him back towards the camp...but pulls up short when she notes the sudden light. Making out the same thing that Arm does she really wishes that she had brought her bow along with her. Still she falls into step a little behind and off to the left of Arm as they charge into the fight. If she gets there will time to spare, she follows Arm in his idea of engaging a bugbear taking on the same one that he is after.

Edmund and Revi continue to amp up the fire. As the others push the fight.
Arm and Ruby make their way through the forest to help out Wynum, but spend the whole time making it through the trees. They're about 15 feet away from Wynum when they finish their moves. Grinning from ear to ear, the bugbears leave the downed Wynum and make their way over to Arm and Ruby. Two position themselves in flanking position with Arm, and two do the same to Ruby. As they bring down their morningstars, they growl in anticipation. (Arm takes 7 dam, Ruby takes 11).
Shadow tries to get himself out of the web, but just can't manage it. Thar, however, manages to wriggle out (breaking out with Escape artist is a full round action). Just as he realizes that it's a bit brighter outside (inside the dim light area), two more webs shoot his way. The first misses him terribly, but the second glues him in place once more.
OOC: Edmund and Revi are approximately 70 feet away from Thar and Shadow. They can barely make out their struggling forms in the dim light. Also, remember that there's no running allowed in the dense forest.
Personal OOC: Thank you guys so much for the thoughts and prayers! We still don't know exactly what's going on with my son's eye. And They're Off (DM Nellie) Tuesday August 4th, 2009 11:22:52 PM
Thar and Shadow escape from the webs and see Revi coming to back them up. The spiders quickly tuck tail and begin rapidly moving through the trees further into the dark forest.
Arm and Ruby make it to the rapidly fading Wynum and attack the beasts. Arms scores a hit, while Ruby almost manages to take the morningstar out of the critter's hands. Her follow up blow strikes well, but doesn't penetrate any vital organs. The bugbears growl and raise their weapons, but for some odd reason they beat a hasty retreat back into the darkened forest. (Withdraw, no AoO).
And so, with the bad nasties gone, the Order finds itself once more in the creepy forests of the Monster Preserve.
OOC: Sorry folks, thought I had you covered for my vacation. BTW, my boy still has some issues with his eye, but we're hoping that it's nothing serious. We have an MRI at the end of the month, at which time we'll know more.

Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 17) Mage Armoured, Fox's Cunning Wednesday August 5th, 2009 10:22:30 PM
A rather bedraggled Edmund looks up as the various members of the order return to camp, his clothes askew as he stops in mid-toss with a broken piece of cart.
"Finally come back, then?" he asks them. "Running off in the dark, most unwise!"
That said, Edmund drops the bit of wood and steps back away from the blazing fire. One hand tentatively reaches up to wipe something away from his face--sweat. Highly unusual for the Wizard--so much that he is a bit surprised.
"I say," he, in fact, says, "more than a bit warm! Maybe we should move camp? How far is it out of this ridiculous place? Is there somewhere more safe that we could go to rest up and try this again? Really, I'm at a loss of how to proceed."
"Suggestions definitely accepted," he adds, as if it weren't clear enough that he's stumped.

Even though he hates to let the spiders and their allies escape, Thar knows he's out of spells and now is time time to rest... He takes a quick look over at Ruby to ensure she's safe and assuming she is, he finally can relax and move back to the campsite. "Good idea about moving our camp Ed, since they'll definitely know where we're at from last time. I'll take 1st watch too, so I can rest and memorize my spells for tomorrow."

Wynum 13/42hp d20-1=4 ; d20+6=26 ; Thursday August 6th, 2009 12:23:49 PM
"The good news", the centaur adds after some though, "is that they're probably out of spells, in fact even more than us."
Walking a bit, he comments "I'm afraid we have no other better place to go. But we have a fire, and a warning. If they try this mind trick again, we'll be sure to club each other back to senses, and if we keep the fire going, we'll shut down their advantage in the dark. So I suggest we do watches in pairs. I'll begin with Revi, to benefit from the magical light while it's on. Maybe Ruby can you take the next, with whomever's in?"
Wynum makes sure, during his watch, to walk about, scrutinizing the woods and putting on a good show of being aware of possible nightly ambushes. He also readies his bow, this time.

Merely grunting with the comment from Edmund she goes back over to take a seat on her bedroll. "Second watch is fine." Though this has turned into a total farce so far, she is more than ready for a little sleep now.
Absently she reaches up to rub at the spot where she had gotten punctured earlier and is glad that the message spell had been down. She turns a slight shade of red but rolls into a prone position to get a little sleep.

With the foes vanquished from the battlefield, the Order heads back to the campsite and prepare to rest once again. Watches are set, and the fire and daylight spells provide a good deal of illumination for the first hour of the watch.
Slowly but surely the daylight spells sputter and then wink out, but the fire is kept going. Wynum and Revi keep a good watch, as do the others after them. Thankfully, no enemy are spotted, and as the sun rises the spellcasters awaken and find themselves refreshed and ready to prepare spells for the day.
OOC: Okay, so I'm being nice by not attacking again at night. Shrug, must be getting soft in my old age. ;) Please use tomorrow and **email** to work out a strategy for the day attack. Also, please don't forget to calculate in the night attack's damage (including the Str. loss in your stats). Thanks so much for the well wishes. :)
Arm[HP 26/33 AC 22] Friday August 7th, 2009 5:53:04 AM
Arm awakens somewhat groggily at first, but quickly comes about to his full faculties. Stretching, he eyes his surroundings, making sure that everyone is OK. While he waits for the others to rise, he ponders the situation and how they can go about assailing the mountain.
Thar AC 23/24, 69/70 hps, Mag Circle vs. Evil Friday August 7th, 2009 2:20:47 PM
Thar rests through the night and wakes up with a nice, fresh set of spells memorized for the upcoming battle. He does, however, get up a little bit earlier than the others and if he can find some nice flowers to pick in a safe location, gathers them up and leaves them next to Ruby, hoping they'll brighten her day. After all, with the upcoming battle, they'll need all the sunshine they can handle...
After eating a light breakfast, he says his morning prayers. Once done, he joins the others in deciding their battle strategy...
(OOC = Nellie, how long does the strength loss last? Also, we need to make sure we take into account the healing we get overnight...)
Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 17) Mage Armoured, Fox's Cunning Friday August 7th, 2009 4:52:22 PM
Edmund wakes up in the morning and sets about memorising his spells. He also recovers his dagger, much good it will do him.
That done, he discusses strategy with the others.

Ruby [HP: 70/74 - AC: 23(24dodge)(cover)][][] Friday August 7th, 2009 7:53:41 PM
Ruby wakes early as usual, but finds flowers near her bed and smiles. She picks them up and smells them, inhaling their scent. With a sigh she digs out her journal and using the back pages, presses several of them before storing the book back in her pack.
Her morning is spent in the usual fashion of her going through her training schedule, the elegant dance of rapier and dagger that she does every morning. Though this particular morning she is doing this fully armored, something she does every so often to keep her use to fighting in armor.
When she finally comes to find her breakfast, she stops long enough by Thar to give him a chaste kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, they are beautiful." For the flowers could have only come from him. As she slowly eats she listens to the strategies and gives out bits of her own thoughts...mostly on her skills and what she might be able to offer.
[OOC: Was their extra traditional healing done to anyone before we turned in for the night? Updated header as I noted a problem there, if a small one. :)]

{OOC: I think the only healing we'll get is 1hp/level for those who didn't stand watch (so that's Ed, Julian, and Arm I guess). Thar, remember to memorize enough protection from evil, as it'll ward us against further mind control.}
Now looking poorly rested and still wounded, Wynum has lost much of his pride. He discusses strategy with animation, and rather alarming sparks in his eyes.
Julian (small size) AC 14, hp/72 =72 Saturday August 8th, 2009 3:33:07 AM
Julian jumps out of his tent fully armoured and runs around the camp site 7 or 8 times with his animals.
"Good morning all. What's for breakfast? Think I'll pack for morning tea now."
The halfling eats and eats some more, "You never which will be your last meal, you see..." and eagerly joins the conversation about strategy.

Ruby [HP: 70/74 - AC: 23(24dodge)(cover)][][] Saturday August 8th, 2009 12:57:01 PM
Once strategy had been pretty well planned out, she got Thar's attention and motioned away from the camp. She moved that way herself and stopped a good distance from the camp and waited for him to catch up. A little privacy would be nice for what she wanted to tell him, but she also wanted to be able to see the others.
Once he got to the spot she was standing at she gave a shy smile and then spoke. "Thar, I want to tell you something...well two different things. The problem is that both could lead to greater danger to you." She chewed on her lower lip as she mulled over what she wanted to say, no had to say. Not giving him time to say more or for her to change her mind, she just went into it. "With everything that happened yesterday and last night...I wanted to tell you something. Something that I have never needed to tell anyone else, something that I have never given myself the time to find before now....I love you Thar." She could not help but blush slightly at her own words, but she did not look away from him waiting to see his response. She did not press because if he felt the same way, she wanted him to freely admit it...not tell her what he thought she wanted to hear.
His reply would also make her next revelation harder or easier. She did care for him, deeply, and the fact that she loved him put him in great danger as she said...but the next thing she would tell him would mean more. She shivered slightly as she realized that she would need to ask his opinion on something as well. Trust was not something she had come to give lightly and could she trust all of this group?
Wynum 13/42hp Sunday August 9th, 2009 5:14:48 PM
"Good, we'll have more information soon." the centaur comments as Ruby gets out in the wood "But I'm not sure if Thar's the best candidate for scouting, though."
Shaking his head, he continues chewing on rations.

Arm awakes feeling well rested, and looking over at Wynum, he immediately approaches and heals more of his wounds (cure moderate wounds=20). "There," he says, putting his hand on Wynum's shoulder, "That should put you more in the right for this morning.".
OOC: BTW, the item that I mentioned in the email that we should get for Ed is NOT hombrew...I finally found it!! LOL It's called "Heward's Fortifying Bedroll", and it's located on page 132 of the Complete Mage. I don't know if that's allowable in the Wold or not, but I just thought I'd put it out there... :)
Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 82/86 Monday August 10th, 2009 6:08:47 AM

Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 12) Monday August 10th, 2009 6:52:25 PM
OOC: Alack, Len, it's not allowed. We'd have to create a 'similar' item and then get approval for it to be a Wold-specific item. Much to my chagrin, the Wold only uses the Core Rulebooks and the Epic Handbook.
(...possibly. In one place in the Wold's Rules it says the campaign doesn't use the Epic, and in another place it says it does. The latter is probably the case, and the rules simply weren't updated when it was allowed. This is more likely than it being allowed and then prohibited later.)
Wynum 33/42hp Monday August 10th, 2009 6:54:06 PM
"Thanks Arm. I think I should stay out of harm, lest I drain all the party's spells."
Finishing his meal, he responds to Revi. "Well, maybe we could do a litte scouting together in the woods while Ruby goes to check the cliff. Or better, go with Jiulian, otherwise I will end up wounded, who knows, by thorny bushes?"
Julian (small size) AC 14, hp/72 =72 Monday August 10th, 2009 10:13:02 PM

Arm[HP 33/33 AC 22] Tuesday August 11th, 2009 5:48:46 AM
Arm smiles at Wynum and says, "Healing a friend is never a waste of a spell.". He then relates his plans to the rest regarding his summoning of a celestial hippogriff to create a diversion, but listens as well to THEIR plans as they try to hammer out a more beneficial plan of attack on the ledge. To Thar and Ruby he says, "Take the utmost care when scouting, and report back when you can.".
OOC: Yes, Ed..I looked it up after I posted it. It's a shame, too..that is one COOL item.. :)

Thar nods at Arm's suggestion, and gathers his equipment to do some scouting. He gathers foilage, dirt, etc to prepare his camoflage and avoid detection.
Once he's ready, he looks at Ruby and says, "Are you ready? We seem to make a good team, don't we (with a hopeful smile)? I must admit that I had hoped our first "walk in the woods" was something less dangerous.... Once you're set, let's go...
At her signal, he'll move back towards the "Hill of Doom" and begin searching along the flanks of the hill for possible hidden entrances, trails that show use, or other markers of a safer way into the hill. When he finds a trail, he'll try to see where it leads and if possible, maybe it will show where the bugbears go for hunting, gathering supplies, etc. After all, they certainly have an easier way of gathering resources than climbing up and down a dangerous, steep cliff...

Ruby frowns and then looks to Thar, her face hardening. She punches him not too lightly in the arm. "Have you been listening to a word I just said?" Her temper flares and she glares at him for a few more minutes before stomping off to start the scouting. Her voice is low as she moves away, anger very apparent and she is cursing herself for admitting something that she considered so important.
She pulls her rapier out as she moves along and uses it to stab at a couple of imaginary enemies, trying her best to get the anger out of her system before the assault the cliffs. If not, she may not be as focused as she should on the more important matters.

Nonetheless, he silently wishes them both well, in their mission and their future together. Settling down in an advantageous spot, he scans the area for possible threats, as this would most definitely not be a good time to be caught unaware (listen=32, spot=12) while awaiting their return.

Scouting (DM Nellie) Wednesday August 12th, 2009 11:55:01 PM
The scouts head out (Julian and Revi??), looking for signs of the pesky spiders. Heading back into the forest, the scouts find no signs of any resistance.
OOC: Guys, I'm working on getting someone to fill in for me. In the meantime, can you please let me know what your scouting plan is (scouts go all the way to the cave??). Also, items in the Epic books are not allowed in the Wold. Sorry. :(

Material from the EpicHB is available for characters of level 15 and above. This indicates that the Epic HB is allowed.
However, in the section entitled 'EPIC POLICY', the rules state: The Wold does not use the Epic Handbook. Characters may take the epic feats listed in the DMG upon reaching 15th level, if they qualify for them.

Edmund remains at camp and glances around, looking for Shadow.
"Hmm," he says in response to Arm's question. "Maybe something to do with his guild? Pretty shady folks. They might have an outpost out here. Maybe he was called up?"
In the meantime, Edmund waits impatiently for the scout group to hurry back, worried that they might be attacked again.

"I'll stake my magic quiver here. Winner has the higher KO count when we've cleaned out the cave. I like to leave some for the Talkers," pointing his thumb at Edmund, "to talk to. And that druid would prefer them to live, something about them being 'misled' rather than 'pure evil'."
OOC remember that Julian does NonLethal Damage, so a strict 'kill count' won't work. Offering Epona's (?) Quiver www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#efficientQuiver for the bet, empty though.

Though she has done it once already, Ruby will be scouting the surrounding area near the cave to see if there are other entrances hidden or ways inside. Maybe an easier path that might be taken to get cave entrance as well. Otherwise she is rather flustrated with Thar right now and is most likely not going to talk to him right away.
Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 82/86 Thursday August 13th, 2009 10:40:53 PM
"Hmm," Revi murmurs as she rubs her chin, "I don't do only knock out's per se. If I put a bugbear or whatever down, dead or alive, that counts as one, right? What about large or huge creatures, how many points for them?"
Wynum 33/42hp Thursday August 13th, 2009 11:19:18 PM
Hiding his jealousy, Wynum whispers a side comment at Edmund:
"Barbarians, gambling. Pah! Can they even count their kills?"
Julian (small size) AC 14, hp/72 =72 Friday August 14th, 2009 12:20:17 AM
"Down and out for the rest of the fight. Knocked down but they get back up doesn't count. "What's your wager?"
Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 12) Friday August 14th, 2009 1:16:04 AM
Edmund rolls his eyes as Julian and Revi make complicated bets on knocking beerbugs about.
"I thought we were the ones who do all the talking," he mutters to Wynum. "Time to show 'em how it's done."
Clearing his throat, the wizard addresses the two barbarians. "Less discourse methinks. Here's an idea, Julian: let's chop their heads off. We've been nice once, and it nearly got us all killed twice. Time to make an example of them. Stow the mercy knife and hit them with something that has a bit more bite, what what? Revi doubtless can show you how it's done."
Edmund is normally the first person to try and talk his way out of a situation; on his first outing in Plateau City he physically assaulted Arm for attacking unarmed-but-misled people. This time, however, the wizard is taking no prisoners and giving no quarter.
"It's well and good to be nice when you have enough force that you have the luxury of affording your opponents mercy. But when the fight is close and your numbers are down and the other side is intent upon making sure not even bones remain of you--well, then it is time to set aside such things, hey hey? We've really been more than gentle enough so far, but quite frankly, I'm all-out with being shot at and nearly minced. Being merciful is of little use if it gets us killed; you can't question people when you're dead yourself."
"This time," Edmund says resolutely, "things will be different."
Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 82/86 d20+10=11 ; Friday August 14th, 2009 2:50:51 AM
"Excuse me, Eddy, ol' pal o' mine, but Jules baby and I are forming a deal, kapiche?" Turning back to the halfling, "So down for the fight, okay... I've got this Amulet of Natural Armor(+1) which is worth a little more than your quiver. Add 200gp and we're square on the wager. Oh, and like I asked before, what about something big, like a giant or something, how many points for that one?"
Julian (small size) AC 14, hp/72 =72 Friday August 14th, 2009 5:46:03 AM
"Counts as two? Fair enough for bigger things? And smaller counts for half? "What about split kills? Can't have you counting one for each one that was already cooked by Eddy, skewered by Wynumm, hamstrung by Ruby and slashed by Arm."
"Okay Eddy, I'll charge in my lance first up, but the 'Mercy Knife' puts 'em down quicker than anything else I have. I suppose I can lose some of the damage to make it permanent, but I'll have to think on it. I can only pray that Domi will help me to make the right choice."
Julian (small size) AC 14, hp/72 =72 Friday August 14th, 2009 5:48:36 AM

Not realizing that he spoke aloud, Arm replies to Edmund, "Yes, I suppose that could be the case. Hopefully when Shadow gets there, he'll send someone he feels adequate to replace him.". As he listens to Ed's discourse with the other two, it shocks him to realize that he finally made sense for once.

"Well.. her goes tactics and plans. A beheading contest!"
Turning around in frustration, he suddenly freezes and adresses Edmund.
"Oh well. Come to think of it. Yes, send them up there if that's what they want. I'll stay out and count the heads that fly down for them, right? That way everybody's happy. Well... except, maybe... the druid."
Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 12) Friday August 14th, 2009 12:16:15 PM
Edmund shakes his head when Julian suggests making them smaller.
"Not possible, I'm afraid," he says. "But no worries. I'd feel bad making Wynum into a stagecoach for miniature people."
"At any rate," he continues. "I'm ready when you are. As soon as the scouts return, we'll deliver a short, sharp lesson."
Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 82/86 Friday August 14th, 2009 4:01:21 PM
"Hold on Winnie, no use in getting flustered, we're just wagering about the ones we take down, not forgetting the plan, whatever it is." Turning back to Jules, "Split kills will be difficult, say Eddy boy flames a bunch of them, leaving none unscathed, that's a lot of points not attainable. I say half points for one's already injured by someone else, hows about that?"
Julian (small size) AC 14, hp/72 =72 Friday August 14th, 2009 11:53:53 PM
"Good, quite a fine plan. Two points for big. One for normal. Half points if already hurt. "I'll have to avoid the injured ones, or count them separately."
"Eddy, there's my Wand of," the halfing takes on a mock aristocratic tone, "Maketh Thee Small-ee!" Then in a serious tone, "Sorry Wynumm, I didn't mean to make a pack-horse of you, just trying to save spells."
"Revi, when we attack, can you drop your shoulder, knock 'em down and run on through? It'd be great if the two of us were to attack from behind.
Revi AC20/15T/15FF HP 82/86 Saturday August 15th, 2009 7:35:44 PM

Julian (small size) AC 14, hp/72 =72 Saturday August 15th, 2009 9:23:42 PM
More than happy to do so, the halfling shakes Revi's hand, "This should be fun."
Shaking off the last of his breastplate he comments to himself more than anyone else, "I think I've got this armour thing sorted - and it doesn't include this metal hindrance."
Julian begins to ready for the battle, retrieving some focus items, a scroll, weapons. He calls his badger familiar to him and looks over his riding saddle, "Still fits nicely, hey Shark. We are going to have a great time today. Just you wait to see what we can do."

(OOC@Revi: Nope, but we do have the items on-hand, and we have Detect Magic'ed them, so we know which are magical (and with what auras), and which are not.
...Though I don't remember that particular information! I'm sure Nellie can brief us when she's back.)

OOC: First up, the two rings from the spumaniders show faint evocation. The Wand shows faint enchantment. I don't recall anyone actually stating that they attempted to Identify these, I am being generous to help move things along.
Scouting -- Here's what I am starting with: Ruby - Though she has done it once already, Ruby will be scouting the surrounding area near the cave to see if there are other entrances hidden or ways inside. Maybe an easier path that might be taken to get cave entrance as well. Otherwise she is rather flustrated with Thar right now and is most likely not going to talk to him right away. Thar -- At her signal, he'll move back towards the "Hill of Doom" and begin searching along the flanks of the hill for possible hidden entrances, trails that show use, or other markers of a safer way into the hill. When he finds a trail, he'll try to see where it leads and if possible, maybe it will show where the bugbears go for hunting, gathering supplies, etc. After all, they certainly have an easier way of gathering resources than climbing up and down a dangerous, steep cliff... Spot = 23 Track = 27 Hide = 25 MS = 12 Listen = 25 Thar's goal is to at least go partially into the cave, at least to try to see what's in the opening, any traps or potential hostile forces. Mostly, his goal is to find out a way to get to the cave w/o being observed by the enemy...
DM: Thar and Ruby carefully move back towards the 'Hill of Doom'. They stay in the cover of the trees and observe the scree and the cave entrance. After a few minutes they spy a bugbear walk lazily up towards the ledge of the cave. It spends nearly a minute looking about carefully, before he saunters back out of sight.
Moving to the left of the cave, still using the trees for cover, Thar and Ruby approach the cliff face, North of the cave entrance. They spends some time moving through the trees and inspecting the cliff face. Nothing of note is found, and it is no easier to climb here than at the cave entrance.
The sun has risen noticeably as the scouts are out working. They have found neither resistance nor entrances along the north wall for some distance. They must now choose to double back along their path to search south of the cave entrance, or return to the Mithril Order's camp. It is nearing lunch time.
Edmund, Julian, Arm, Revi and Wynumm make their plans at the camp. Wagers are made and accepted (and mocked). But what plans are made?
OOC to move things along -- I plan to start combat rounds soon so that the tracking of spell durations can commence. I might give you a full combat minute to start off, but not yet. When we know what the scouts are up to (returning to camp or continue scouting) we can relay information and begin.
Arm[HP 33/33 AC 22] Wednesday August 19th, 2009 5:55:01 AM
Arm looks intently out into the woods where Thar and Ruby set off to. "I hope they return soon," he says to the rest, "It's getting rather late in the day, and we already know what happen at night around here. If we're going to make the assault today, it will have to be soon.".
Edmund (HP: 44/44, AC: 12) Wednesday August 19th, 2009 11:45:15 AM
Edmund yawns as they wait.
"Maybe we can have a snack in the meantime?" he suggests hopefully.

Thar whispers to Ruby, "I don't think we're going to have any luck on the North side. Let's check out the South and see if it's more promising..."
He'll double back, and quietly and stealthily moving to do the same investigation in the South as he did in the North. He'll also take note of the bugbear sentry's timing...

Ruby merely nods her head in reply to Thar as she was not ready to forgive him yet for his slight to her earlier. In fact, the more she thinks about it the angrier she actually gets. Did he even realize what he had done? Turning she moves back, keeping an eye upon the sentries as well, to the south to have a look the other direction. The time is fast fading and she would like to make their attack before it gets too dark...it appeared that the dark favored their enemies.

OOC I am posting out of order here because I think we are all waiting for the scout's report.
Thar and Ruby move back to the cave entrance and spend some time taking note of the sentry's movements. Knowing the way, and not searching the cliff face they make good time back to the scree. Thar makes mental notes as to the timing of the sentry looking out over the scree. Each time he casually walks out so that his head and shoulders can be seen, and he spends around a minute each time carefully looking through the woodlands surrounding the scree. Ruby notices that it is not always the same Beerbug -- she knows for certain that there was more than one, but cannot say that it was two or three or four distinct individuals, they all look the same to her from this distance.
They then move further south in vain hope of finding another cave entrance. Moving along being careful to not walk into an ambush takes time. The scouts and thorough and soon find themselves nearly 200' from where they were observing the cave entrance, with no alternate entrance found.
The rest of the Mithril Order eat an anxious lunch together. They repack the foodstuffs, and begin to pace about, swinging swords in nervous anticipation. Thar and then Ruby return having missed lunch by an hour. Ruby seems a little distant as she wanders into camp several paces behind the elf.
They report that, in short, there seems to be no alternate entrance. The sentry looks out over the scree every 10 minutes or so. Thar believes that they weren't spotted, and Ruby adds that there is more than one Beerbug on sentry duty.
OOC Lets finalise a plan and begin combat rounds by Monday at latest. I imagine that there is going to be a fair bit of preparatory spell casting, so I am willing to begin with 6 - 10 rounds at once (that is negotiable, it is up to you) so that you can cast a few spells without it taking all week.
I plan to make the DM post in the early hours of the morning Woldian Time, say between 2:30 and 3:30 AM most days, 7:30 AM at the latest usually, though there will be the odd occasionally a few hours after that. Oh, and one other thing, could you please place you current email address along with your player name up the top of your character sheet.
Arm[HP 33/33 AC 22] Thursday August 20th, 2009 6:01:23 AM
Arm smiles as he sees the scouts return, but it quickly fades with the news that their only option is a direct assault. "Well, we anticipated as such, so lets have at it. I suggest we get as close as possible before any spells are cast in order to insure maximum effect and duration. If there are only a few on the ledge now, it may be easier to ascend...at least I hope it will be.".
If they get a moment, he pulls Thar to the side and says, "Ruby seems very upset with you, and I have a feeling you don't know why. Perhaps after this is over you should try talking with her about it if her ire hasn't faded by then.".
OOC: Robert, I've placed my email at the top of my CS per your request. :)
Robert: Thanks, Len, it just makes it easier for me (and any other DM) to gather together all the info on each of you
Julian Thursday August 20th, 2009 7:17:40 AM
"Spells, hmmmm, good idea Arm. I've got something for you..." The halfling goes into his pack and retrieves several scrolls. "You can cast these, right? I bought them a while back, and kinda learned how to do them anyway, without having to read, you see." He offers Arm the scrolls, "There's five here labelled, no, wait. One. Two. Three. Four. There's four here labelled Trum Strikey. Tru-ee... Trooo. Ah, Troo Strike." Glancing about self consciously Julian rushes through the next statement, "and these ones too. Very usefull. Here ya go." (OOC: 4 x True Strike, 2 x Exp Retreat, Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance - use them as you see fit, maybe others will ask for the casting upon them. I was only going to refund them at the CC - I can't cast spells on other people, not yet anyway.)
"You know, if we only use enough spells to get up there, we might be able to defend a position as the casters do their hocus-pocus while we are up there. One of you tall folk worried that we'd burn up all the 'Open Sesame' too soon. "Eddy, do you know some good wall-summon-thingos?"
Julian would appreciate time to cast several buffing spells, would love Fly to get up there, and if available Haste too.
Thar AC 23/24, 69/70 hps, Mag Circle vs. Evil Thursday August 20th, 2009 9:52:47 AM
After Thar returns with Ruby from their scouting trip, he passes on what they've discovered. He asks, "So what is our final plan here? We've discussed several good ideas, but let's get things finalized. I can summon some monsters, but they don't stay more than several rounds. I would probably use them to interfere with the archers long enough for us to reach the top and get into melee range..."
He listens to the group discuss their battle plans and says, "I can stay in the 2nd rank, healing when necessary and moving forward with my swords to fight in melee. I'm not good with my bow, but with those swords and my healing, I can have an impact on the battle..."
Once Arm pulls him aside, Thar listens to his words and shakes his head in confusion, "You're right, but I have no idea what I've done. I'm not real good with ladies and haven't ever courted a human before. Elven females are much different, as I'm learning... Maybe I should talk with her and apologize for whatever I did wrong. I'll ask for her patience as I figure this whole courtship thing out... As elves, we can court for 15-20 years, but with humans, we have less time to do it right..."
As the rest of the group finalizes plans, he goes over to Ruby, and getting her alone, says with a sincere expression, "Um, hey Ruby... Um... I see that I've done something to upset you and whatever it is I've done, I'm so sorry. I've never courted a human before and I think I made a mistake. I'm not real good at this relationship stuff, but I'm really trying... Um... Would you please forgive me and be patient with me? I do like you a lot and would like to see where our relationship could go. (Nervous pause) I know we have a lot going on and wouldn't blame you if you gave up on me, but I'm asking that you bear with me and I promise I'll do my best...." With that said, he steps back and hopes that she'll give him a positive response...

Ruby [HP: 70/74 - AC: 23(24dodge)(cover)][][] Thursday August 20th, 2009 9:16:57 PM
Ruby listens in for a few minutes, giving them her bits of information on what she had observed. When they start to talk about last minute details of the coming attack, she gives ideas of what she would be best at doing. "My best place in the battle might be with two weapons in melee combat. If you think it will help I can also try to disarm our opponents as we move among them." She has not use of spells or anything fancy that might add to the group otherwise besides her fighting abilities.
She moves off with Thar as he wants to speak to her and listens. Though part of her would love to just belt him in the mouth, she crushes that feeling down so that she can truely listen. Giving a sigh, she shakes her head. "All I wanted you to know was how I felt about you...that I loved you. It was important to me for you to know that in case I died in this battle." She shook her head and sighed again as she figured she was going to have to tell him everything again.
"Courting is all well and good, but there are things that you must know about me before we go that far. It is dangerous enough for me to just admit that I love you." Her face reddens, though not as dark as he hair and she shoves away the fear. "Like I would like to hear you say my real name just once...but that is a step that we may never be able to back away from if we decide to." Wrapping her arms around herself she starts to shake slightly, the fear once again settling back in. "But that is not all, it will mean great danger to the whole group as well."
