Lumpy Goblins

Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 | [Drew]  d20+2=9 ; d10+2=4 ;
Tuesday August 4th, 2009 9:43:54 PM

A fire tears through the cleric's eyes; not the color of the campfire, not the color of torches or moonlight. This fire, as green as a cursed swamp or the slimy scales of newborn greed dragon, terrorizes the eyes of the tanned cleric.

Third time's the charm.

He moves deftly, axe in hand -- trusting only the lessons taught to him on the streets and wanting not to rely in the blessings of his lord, the Caretaker of Souls -- and streaks for the only creature within his sight. As he rounds the circular tent, a streak of shiny metal arcs through the air, as the silent cleric moves like a shadow and proves to be as dangerous as one too.

Xeron AC AC15 HP 7/7  d20=4 ;
Wednesday August 5th, 2009 7:48:41 AM

Group fighting was not something Xeron had done in a long time. However he remembered practicing it with the Assassin Guild of Mudtown.

Knowing that loud noise in battle can be disconcerting to the ennemy, he yells "Someone goes deep inside those things and help Sanji and I flank them."

He moves toward the first goblin and tries to skwered it with his rapier. Sadly, his blade misses by a lot (1d20 + 0 = 4)

Suddenly a little voice shows up "May be you missed because it is not a Good thing you are doing ... SHUT UP ..... What about Master Penn? "

Xeron realizes that he needs to protect cargo and employer and yells at Naru "Naru, you are the closest, go check on the Boss and go put him in a safe place .... "

ooc: I am unsure of Xeron's location, but am hoping he is in D5, or will move from D4 to D5)

Seeing Xeron miss his swing, Bosk looks on in horror as, from his angle, the poor rogue appears to be taking on the enemy by himself, without waiting for his comrades. That foolish human! How can he think he is going to get to keep all the fun for himself? "Xeron, stand back!".

Baring his teeth and looking more beast than man, the gigantic minotaur and lets out a blood curling cry as he lowers his head and charges the nearest goblin (#1), releasing upon him all the furry of the embarrassment that he had been suppressing since the previous day's battle. Feeling is horns connect against the goblin's soft flesh the minotaur yells even louder as he thrusts his horns deeper before he straightens and flicks his head in an attempt to throw the goblin's skewered body at the three closest attackers. (f/g3/4) Placing his hand on his Morning star and pulling it out, ready to attack, the horned cleric bellows "Which of you will be next to meet Gargul?"

Sorry, in the previous post I meant I hope Xeron is in D4, leaving room for me. And if he is not, I hope he will move there after I call to him.

Sorry about the triple post, I forgot my strength modifier +3 to my attack. SInce the attack is double damage I believe that puts my attack damage at 18. I almost feel sorry for the goblin.

Sanji (Eric)  d20=8 ;
Wednesday August 5th, 2009 4:00:56 PM

Here we go! Abandoning all stealth, Sanji runs along side Padre after seeing him swing at one of the creatures behind the tent. Hearing Bosk's proclimation, Sanji knows that words will not end this conflict. She moves to Padre's right (J4) and stabs at the nearest of the creatures (#5).*

Perhaps her nerves are getting the better of her. Get a hold of yourself. This isn't the first time you've been in a fight.

Sanji hears Xeron's statement and hopes someone will comply. It would be a rough trip into the middle of these creatures though. However, it would certainly improve her, and Xeron's chances.

Naru [AC:14/12/12 HP:5/5]
Wednesday August 5th, 2009 4:38:12 PM

Naru races to the opening of Penn's tent. (h10).

"Pardon the interruption sir, but there is a horde of goblins behind you tent." Naru yells to her employer."It would be best if you prepared yourself to move quickly."

Caravan Watch- DM Jim  d20+7=19 ; d6=5
Wednesday August 5th, 2009 5:29:28 PM

Seeing the fight is joined, Valla invokes a Shield spell to protect himself from any possible danger from the front.

Padre, axe in hand, deftly rounds the corner of the tent and strikes out against the goblin before him, but misses the surprised foe by a wide margin.

Lenwe quickly casts a Mage Armor spell on himself and attempts to climb over the wagon in front of him.

Yelling out orders, Xeron engages his foes sidestepping here and there, feinting to and fro, leaving Bosk room enough to charge, but at the same time missing with his deadly rapier at the readied goblin before him.

Yelling for Xeron to stand back, Bosk feels the Taur blood in him boil as he charges forward with horns lowered, slamming and goring his foe before him. Lifting him off his feet and throwing him to the ground, the lumpy goblin remains motionless as Bosk yells out a challenge to the other remaining goblins.

Sanji races into the fight and finds her skill at arms below par of that of Padre, as both fail to have hit the same foe.

Not quite making the front of Penn's tent, Naru yells out a warning to her employer--no immediate answer is forthcoming.

Seeing one of her 'mates already down, Bruurah(8) calls upon her god's vengeance down upon Bosk. A cold shiver runs down the minotaurs spine and threatens to encapsulate him in fear, but he forces it away and remains where he is, shaken but not stirred.

The rest of the lumpy goblins, surprised by the sudden attack, draw their weapons.

Ariman continues to sleep in the tent.

Combat Map

Damage Taken
-------------
Enemy #1 -- 13hp; unconscious

-------------

Bosk was hit with a spell, made his Will save, but is SHAKEN for 1 round.
Strength bonuses are not doubled in this case, but the damage was enough to drop him anyway.
Also, you rolled a d8 for damage, I rerolled for you and with Str bonus it was enough.
The free Intimidate check is only against the target of the charge and he is unconscious :)
Lastly, you cannot fling his body unless you make a full attack and a charge invalidates that.

Lenwe didn't get as far as he wanted, the wagon is in the way and is difficult terrain, so it's 10' every square moving on the wagon.

Naru didn't quite make her square because moving diagonally takes more movement.

Wednesday August 5th, 2009 11:58:48 PM

Hearing the words being spoken by the goblin creature outside of the fenced area, something immediately registers as bad with the cleric. He casts a glance at Sanji and then quickly points to the spellcasting goblin.

"Get that one, Sanji! It is a spellcaster trying to induce fear into Bosk! Get the spellcaster!"

He yells one more time to Sanji as he pushes her towards the fence. "Bid your time for a killing strike! I will take the brunt of these creatures!"

Once again the cleric swings his axe, hoping that steel will release the sanguine life from these creatures. His eyes are now set, as is the rest of his face, in a stone visage of concentration, intent, and judgment. His mind races back to the days on the streets, conning his way through life and knowing that survival meant being bigger or stronger than the other guy.

A grizzled roar rips through Sixtus' mouth, "Can one of you make me LARGER or STRONGER?"

A Note About Rolls - DM Jim
Thursday August 6th, 2009 3:48:15 AM

VALLA -- Thank you for explaining your rolls, but honestly, if you have rolled 20's for them, would you have changed your actions?

EVERYONE -- You do not get to roll for an action then decide to change that action because you didn't like the roll.

Considering the rolls have been made, I'm going to have Valla stick to his first two rolls. Intimidation is a standard action, so there will be no spell this round for Valla.

Xeron AC AC15 HP 7/7  d20=5 ;
Thursday August 6th, 2009 7:44:10 AM

Xeron remembers the teaching of the Assassins Guild "If you are stuck into a group fight and cannot run away, take out the spell casters first and let the fighters exhaust themselves. But running away to be able to pick your ennemies one by one another day is best"

He sees the spell caster on the other side of the fence and hears Padre's order to Sanji. Well may be Sanji and I can become the flanking duo. Still moving, he says to Sanji pointing to the caster "You! Me! Him! " hoping she gets the idea.

He will move 15 feet north, go over the fence and move 10 feet east.

IF he still can do an action (not sure if going over the fence is 5 or 10), he will them attack the cleric but will again fail miserably. "[i]What is the problem with you loser? Cannot seem to hit people since you decided to do good?

Bosk Deox (James) AC 14/10/10 HP 14 *Shaken*  d20=11 ; d20=9 ; 2d6=7 ; d3=3 ; 2d6=8 ; d20=18 ; d8=1 ;
Thursday August 6th, 2009 9:34:03 AM

Hearing Bruurah call forth the vengeance of God upon him Bosk gives an involuntary shudder as he feels his body wracked by magic. Cursing himself for letting his guard down the cleric shakes of the worst of the spell, but can that some damage has been done. It was almost as if some of his strength, his very essence had left him. Disregarding the thought, he reminds himself the effects would be only temporary. [i] I better be more careful until I fully shake off these effects.[i] A terrifying smile begins to creep across the minotaur's face as he realizes that he is still out of the goblins reach, but having a 10 foot reach he could still attack the lumpy forms ahead of him (Reaching across F5 to F4 and G4). Even if he didn't connect, it would give the spell time to wear off, and possibly keep the goblins back a little while longer.

Summoning what remained of his strength, he swings his morning star at goblin #2 and grimaces as blood from the unconscious goblin drips down his horns and across his face, partially obscuring his vision. As he wipes the blood from his face he follows his previous attack by swinging his horns, from memory, at the location he remembered Goblin #3 standing, but doesn't feel the connection he was hoping for.

Surveying the field again, his vision now cleared, he looks at the results. Before the disappointment can reach his face he feels the weight of Bruurah's spell lift from him. Feeling renewed and ready once again for battle he prepares himself for the return attack. [i] I may not have accomplished much, but I am better off now that blasted spell has lifted.]

Calling to Bruurah his voice resonates over the din of the battle. "Your fate has been decided. Today you meet Gargul."

Attack Roll 11+3 = 14-2 (shaken) =12
Attack Damage 7+3-2=8
Attack Roll 9+3 = 12-5 (secondary attack)= 7-2 (shaken) =5
Attack Damage 1

Spellcraft Check 18 (That would have been a nice attack roll.)

(The D3 was rolled by accident. I tried to double click roll on the 2D6 and accidentally hit the button above it the second time. I would try to use it, but I do not think I have any D3 roll abilities. Shame, good roll. I also realized my secondary horn attack is 1D8, not 2D6 like my morning star, but I will gladly be stuck with the first roll :) )

If I figured out the reach wrong and cannot reach across the squares to hit the goblins, then I cast Shield of Faith on myself and let them come to me. However my understanging is you can go diagonal across two squares with no penalty, but there is extra distance between the 2nd and 3rd square.

Sanji (Eric)  d20=6 ;
Thursday August 6th, 2009 2:51:36 PM

Sanji hears Padre's words and understands. A second word from Xeron reach her ears and her mind is made up. She leaves Padre facing the odd creature and makes for the fence. All of her limbs are tingling with excitement as she moves away from these strange creatures. The thrill of combat helps her to focus on the task at hand, pushing all aprehension and fear to the back of her mind. Everyone misses once and a while. Just don't make a habit of it. Moving through, she places herself next to the creature Padre and Xeron pointed out.

The length of sharpened steel in Sanji's hand moves forward almost yearning to drink from its next victim.

Valla attempts to sneak forward and then intimidate his foe, but fails badly.

Seeing the greatest threat is behind the fence, Padre yells at Sanji to go attack the spellcaster that ensorcelled Bosk. Turning back to his own foe, the cleric strikes at him one more time and barely misses again.

Xeron shouts out to Sanji, hoping she understands, then run towards the fence, scrambles over it and rushes to attack the goblin that invoked the fear spell onto Bosk. Just as Xeron is about to strike, he hears the thump of a sword to his right as one of the goblins tries in vain to attack him through the narrow opening of the fence slats (AoO strike; would have hit, but the fence is in the way), perhaps that was distraction enough for the rogue to miss his target, which proves to be the end result.

With his natural advantage of reach, Bosk strikes out first with his morningstar and then his horns to find he has hit neither of his intended victims. Do not post results of attacks unless you are sure they hit, like when I post their AC's after you hit.

Leaping off the wagon, Lenwe blasts his target with a Daze spell, which the goblin succumbs too and reels about temporarily, trying to gather his wits.

Naru rushes into the tent only to find it empty--her employer seemingly gone. If you want to spend a round searching, please make a SPOT check, but the battle rages on outside.

Deciding to help Xeron, Sanji runs to and clambors over the fence--good thing her opponent was dazed, otherwise she would have exposed her back to her foe and perhaps have felt the sting of his blade. Her opponent on the otherhand seems to have nothing to fear from Sanji. A hard thump on the fence near Sanji sounds a possible unsuccessful attack (AoO from 7).

Lumpy Goblins

Gritting her teeth, Goblin2 rushes towards Bosk and narrowly dodges his incoming attack (AoO hit AC11) and skewers the Taur's right leg with her shortsword, sending a lance of pain that shoots right to the cleric's brain.

Goblin3 can't decide immediately who to attack, but then decides it must be the minotaur. Invoking a spell, he directs it at the Taur, who fails to fight off it's affects and becomes dazed momentarily.

Goblin4 turns her back to the major battle and instead aims a spell right at Sanji, through an opening in the fence slats, and hits her in the side of the head with a magic missile-which stings alot!

Gobbo5, unable to do anything, warily keeps up his defenses against any incoming attacks.

Gobbo6 see's that he needs to help out his flanked 'mate on the other side of the fence and deftly climbs it, only to receive a rapier's blade from Xeron as he crosses over. Yet, he remains determined and strikes back with his longsword, openign a bloody gash on Xeron's back.

Gobbo7 turns back to the battle and calls upon the same prayer that nearly fightened Bosk into running, but this time directs it at Padre, who succumbs to it's effects and flees from the battle.

Gobbo8 turns to defend himself from Xeron and cries out in frustration at not being able to finish off the man.

Thursday August 6th, 2009 9:09:11 PM

Sanji nearly looses her footing from the impact. The splitting pain in her head tells her that she may have made a mistake in assuming that the creature behind the fence was the only magic user. She sees Xeron across from her and notices that he's in dire straights as well. You protect the ones you're with. Her own words return to her mind and she resolves to follow them.

I will give this one more try. I have to try and show that I'm not completely useless. She considers her sword for a moment and reassures herself that it is indeed her rapier and not piece of limp rope. She tries to repress the sensation of pain from her conscious thought and focus only on her nearest opponent. I can give him better odds if I just take care of this one in front of me. And, for the third time, she attacks with all the effort she can muster.

Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 | *Frightened* | [Drew]
Friday August 7th, 2009 3:03:05 AM

Sixtus watches as his axe arcs through air once more. No resistance of flesh or sinew or bone. Just air. His eyes widen at the thought of letting this thing live twelve seconds longer than it should have. Perhaps the Caretaker of Souls thought this creature worthy of life. Perhaps the Caretaker of Souls thought this creature worthy to take his life.

That was it! Gargul has chosen this creature to take his life! Gargul sees more in the group of lumpies than in him. It explained everything: missing an unknowing target and then missing the unarmed target a second time! Gargul was ready to claim the soul of the soapbox prophet of no worth and lots of con.

Sixtus does what he know he needs to...he runs! He turns and runs as fast as he can. He runs directly away from the lumpy messenger of death. How long will he have to run to get away from the harbinger? He will run until his heart bleeds acid if need be.

Sanji once more finds her target's scalemail armor and shield too elusive to penetrate.

Padre wasn't sure why he was running, but he knew he must as fast as he could. However, once he hit the fence he regained his senses--he had been ensorcelled.

Bosk weaved in and out of lucidity, it was a strange feeling, but he would awaken from his stupor soon.

Moving to his right, Valla slams a magic missile into the goblin that was now fighting Lenwe. It was obvious the pain was great on the gobbo's face, but not enough to fell him.

Lenwe strikes at his foe, only to find he isn't much good with a sword.

Moments from dying, Xeron leaps to his left and spins, impaling the goblin behind him with a cruel thrust, felling the foul creature.

The goblin faced off against Bosk laughs maniacally as he plunges his sword into Bosk's other leg, opening up a huge bloody gash in it (5dmg)

Seeing Xeron out of reach, Goblin8 turns and attacks Sanji, only to find empty air as the agile rogue easily dodges the blow.

Goblin3 wasn't sure what to do, so he casts a spell at Lenwe only to have it rebuffed as the half-elf wills it away (Spellcraft DC12 to Highlight to display spoiler: {Charm person)}

Naru [AC:14/12/12 HP:5/5]
Saturday August 8th, 2009 5:09:07 PM

Naru rushes over to Penn and nudges him awake on guard that he may be a violent waker.

Noting the cotton in his ears Naru tries to express the fact that they are under attack with gestures hoping at the least he will pull the cotton out so she can explain, not wanting to make a ruckus.

If Penn pulls the cotton out Naru will say, "Goblins are attacking the camp, we need to get you to safety."

Sorry everyone, I am on the road and do not have the time to write a decent post. If someone could write one for me it would be greatly appriciated. My plan is to heal myself using the spell I believe is called heal moderate wounds a 2d8 spell (I accidently rolled a 1D8, and then to move 5 feet and over run the warrior goblin infront of me and hope to knock him prone. I get a plus 4 size advantage and they get a -4 to defend. I will then have a preemptive attack for the next round. If the mage begins to cast a spell 3 will attack hime with my mace for 2D6 damage and try to over run the warrior goblin again Furthermore, I will yell to the group about dicovering that the enemies are in disguise...Thankyou and sorry about the poor post.

Feeling his conciousness begin to fade in and out slightly, Bosk realizes he has lost more blood than he first realized. Praying to Gargul as he holds the cherished symbol that hangs around his neck he his wounds begin to once again stitch themselves back up*.
Feeling the strength return to his legs Bosk stares at the goblin infront of him and, moving into his space atempts to over run him and stop on that square. (D20-4+4=7) (Goblin DC has a -4 size disadvantage.)
If he over runs the warrior goblin, he will stop infront of the mage goblin and stare him down, intent on ruining his plans. If the goblin begins speaking he will attack the goblin with the primary goal of disrupting the spell and a secondary goal of injuring him. (8 to hit for 10 dmg.) He will then perform a secondary horn attack on the warrior goblin as he gets up. (roll to hit =12 for 11dmg).

If the warrior goblin lets bosk pass or is not knocked prone I will wait to see the results before posting.

Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 | [Drew]
Monday August 10th, 2009 7:41:20 AM

Slamming in to the wooden fence, Sixtus comes back to the real world and takes a microsecond to figure out why in the hell is standing at the fence.

"Gargul will see your souls tonight!" is all that he can muster before sprinting* back to the battle at hand.

He understands that the situation could be quite dire if he does not do something worthwhile and soon. He has done nothing thus far but tell people what to do and then not hold up his end of the bargain. That was a sure way to get associates killed.

He stops, winded, much closer to the battle but still on the other side of Venbolio's tent. HIs hand tightens down on the leather laced straps of his axe handle and the fire which burned intensely in his eyes now borders on maniacal panic.

Not knowing what has happened in the past few moments of his mental breakdown, Sixtus yells out, "Who needs my assistance?!"

Finally, an attack is met with success. Steel pierces flesh and her enemie's blood flows freely. Her conficence restored, Sanji lashes out at another of the creatures who forgot that she was in easy reach. The creature will never make the same mistake again. Suddenly, she looks at the remaining creatures and notices that they're normal.*

What's wrong with these creatures? They look wierd.

Hopefully someone else will be able to figure out what is so different about these creatures. She still has a job to and enemies to eliminate. She and Xeron are on either side of a spellcasting creature and she intends to finish it off with his help. Yet agin, the sharpened edge of her blade lashes out seeking to rend flesh and bone.**

"Eh, what? Under attack?! What are you doing here then?" Penn asks groggily of Naru, "Are we overrun? Must we run for our lives then? Are the rest dead?" Penn crawls out from under his tent, where he was sufficiently hidden, and wraps a large robe about himself. Picking up a nearby small chest that was hidden near his head, he says, "Lead the way to safety."

Coming out of the haze of the spell that had put him into a minor stupor, Bosk realizes he is bleeding profusely and needs to heal himself. Stepping back, temporarily out of his foes range, he intones a prayer for healing and receives the blessing of his god (You only have a cure light wound, so 1d8+1. I'll keep your first roll and you are healed for 8hp.)

Xeron screams out that their foes were not goblins just as he lunges forward and places a perfect strike between the scale mail plates of his foe. The strike was not strong, but it's placement was good enough to cause the goblin to arch her back and scream in pain as she immediately fell dying.

The area behind the tent is immediately filled with a spray of many colors as Lenwe invokes his spell at the foes in front of him. Luckily the goblin in front of him misses Lenwe as he's casting (AoO hit AC10), then falls unconscious as does the goblin to his right, succumbing to the mages spell.

yelling out for anyone who needs assistance, Padre runs as fast as he can closer to the battle.

Making sure her foe is down and not play-acting, Sanji strikes it across the back, but even then her blade isn't enough to penetrate the goblins armor.

Lumpy goblins

Seeing her foe retreat and heal himself, golbin2 rushes forward. Dodging Bosk's attack (AoO hit AC4), the goblin once again slashes a deep wound into the Taur's right shin (7dmg).

Damn, damn, damn, goblin3 mutters to himself. Moving and putting his back against the fence, he casts a spell that threatens both Xeron and Sanji (Spellcraft DC16 to Highlight to display spoiler: {Sleep})

Pondering hat to do next, the horned and bloody cleric thinks to himself, If I have to heal myself every couple seconds I will never kill these blasted things. One good strike and the warrior is dead, but if I miss he will surely kill me. If only Gargul would send me a sign. The only thing he could be reasonably sure of was that he wasn't effected by it. Suddenly a blur of motion distracts him, as he sees Sanji seemingly come out of no where to aid him. I had planned to heal myself, but now what? If this guy can hold his own against me, he will surely have no trouble cutting through Sanji's armor. Worried about the young rogue, yells to the human, "Sanji, keep your distance. He is too strong." Bosk swings his morning star at the goblin at the goblin more hastily than he normally would have, and doesn't have the accuracy he would have hoped. In an attempt to correct the action he bends down and tries to hit the goblin with his horns, overcompensating for the goblin's lack of height only to bend over too far and catch his horn in the mud. Struggling to free himself, he is unsure if he can escape before the goblins next blow.

Valla and Lenwe say that things are handled on their side and the cleric looks over to confirm this*. Things checked out fine.

Then as he starts to advance around the other side, Bosk says that assistance would be nice and with those words, Sixtus quickly heads over to the left side of the tent. His cloak, flapping behind him as he ran, sounded like a heartbeat drumming in his ears. Or was it his heartbeat drumming in his ears? He could not tell anymore.

As the cleric rounds the corner of the tent, he sees the minotaur blocking most of the path through to where the goblin creatures are located. As he stops just behind the mass of blonde fur and leather armor, Sixtus does his best to see if he could squeeze between Bosk and the fence to help more.

Yelling out for a status check, Padre waits a moment for a response before moving again.

Valla wonders a moment what they things truly are if they aren't goblins. His answer is soon forcoming as he steps forward, longsword in both hands, and lops off his foes head. It rolls to the side and immediately the rest of the body transforms into the dead remains of a human female, about a foot taller, less her head--which still resembles a goblin wearing a helmet.

Naru attempts to explain the matter quickly to Penn then moves as silently as she can outside, leading her employer to safety (Move silently is at half speed, unless you state you are trying to move faster). As Penn follows behind her, first a step or two, then waiting, then stepping again through the muddy ground as Naru is moving at a cautious pace, he stands on his tip-toes and looks around, "I don't see any goblins! Where are they Naru, where are they?!"

Shaking off the effects of the spell aimed at him, Xeron moves quickly and climbs the fence, which is a painful venture in and of itself, then lands next to one of the two remaining goblins and strikes out with his sword, and although its not a well placed attack, it hits nonetheless through the armorless goblins defenses.

Also shaking off the effects of the spell that tried to put her under, Sanji climbs the fence and rushes forward to help Bosk, skewering her foe in the back.

Lenwe yells back to Padre that they have things well in hand where they are and drives his sword into the chest of the goblin laying unconscious before him, ending his life.

Yelling to keep at least one goblin alive, Bosk strike out at the small goblin before him, missing both with his morningstar and horns.

Gathering all the information yelled back at him, Padre runs over to help Bosk, but finds there is not enough room to squeeze between the Taur and the fence to make it through (the fence is basically on the line and would require to be climbed to make it into the square).

Lumpy Goblins

"Iris, there's only the two of us left," cries out Goblin3, then draws his dagger and strikes back at Xeron, sinking his dagger into Xeron's chest, dropping him at his feet.

Iris quickly assess the situation and determines she needs to finish off the Taur if she's to get out of here alive. Slashing with her sword once more, she deftly cuts another gash into Bosks left shin, barely felling the great beast. Then just as quickly she runs to her right, receiving a stab in the back from Sanji (AoO hit AC19) and painfully climbs over the fence.

She is younger and more beautiful as ever before, before she was used, abused and forced on the street. Next to her is the rich merchant and his wife, both looking at him and smiling.

Xeron starts walking toward them, trying to wonder what all of this mean. Second ago, a goblin who was not a goblin has pierced his chest with a dagger. Now he was walking towards his beloved mother. He takes a couple of steps towards her, starting to feel good about himself.

He thinks to himself, Eyes still rage filled, he watches the cleric and other rogue take down the remaining foe. Thank.... Gargul I guess... With that he starts running toward Bosk and Xeron, screaming Padre! Hurry! Get to Xeron and Bosk, they need you. In the mean time I'll get that fleeing wench... With that Valla heads over to Iris, the girl he shot in the back. Had to do it girl, attack my people, try and raid our camp.... Constantly raving inside his head, when he gets to the dead female he relieves her of all weapons, or any other item, he can find* and drags the womens dead weight to, and under, the bottom slit in the fence. The dumps her, angerly, next to her comrade, that Padre took out. Then double checks his work, making sure he got everything out of her pockets, and hidden sheathed daggers or potions or scrolls**. Then looking at his group, Ok, do what you guys think we need to with her, she can probably be healed to conciousness again, I've checked her twice so she shouldn't have anything surprising.

Valla's Search - DM Jim
Wednesday August 12th, 2009 6:46:30 PM

Initially moaning in pain as he man-handles her, Iris passes out completely as he searches her and discovers when pulling off her helmet, that the illusion disguising her as a goblin, vanishes, and what is left is a small bloodied halfling female--a single tear runs down the length of her face as she lay there dying.

With his poor search skills, all Valla finds other than the clothes she is wearing, is a masterwork shortsword, chainmail shirt she is wearing and the helmet that had turned her into a lumpy looking goblin.

Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 | [Drew]  d8+1=4 ; d8+1=5 ;
Wednesday August 12th, 2009 10:11:39 PM

The weight of the axe head easily pulls the blade down and across the invader's chest to the left. The illusion-person falls to its knees and crumples to a pile on the ground as inertia brings the axe head over Sixtus' left should and squares it yet again for a strike. Just then Sanji leaps in and makes a strike on the fallen person. The heartbeat still pounds in his ears and as unlikely as it seems, Sixtus grips down tighter on the axe; fury has taken control of his limbs.

A familiar voice begins whispering in his ear from far, far away. Padre! Hurry! Get to Xeron and Bosk, they need you. In the mean time I'll get that fleeing wench...

He halts the axe, high above his head, allowing a few drops of blood to fall into his disheveled hair as he looks around for whomever is whispering around him. There is the look of Sanji's eyes, set tightly above the hardened jaw and plain bone structure of the girl. There is the growing pools of blood, stopping and suddenly expanding as if caught in a strobe light, which surround the blonde minotaur and the black haired young man.

He looks away from the blood as a streak of deep blue and silver flash in front of him before recognizing Valla as he scales the fence only to return a few moments later, dragging a body. As the body is haphazardly tossed with the one who fell from Sixtus' axe, the cleric catches a glimpse of the blood yet again and immediately snaps back to the reality and immediacy of time. Dropping his axe, Sixtus runs over to the young man whose blue eyes seem distant and foggy.

"Xeron. I grant you the blessing of my master and ultimately the master of all of us, the Caretaker of Souls will decide if your soul is to stay with us or leave for judgment this night."

Sixtus pulls out the Eye pendant and chain off of his neck and places is carefully on the rogue's forehead. [i]Grant this young man more time, Gargul. Grant him time with the living...with me."[i] A few words of the divine are spoken and suddenly a surge of white-blue light flows from Sixtus' hand and begins seeping in to the deep, gaping hole of the dagger wound*. As the blessing of Gargul washes through the wound and begins to seal it shut, he can hear the air rushing back in to the human's lungs.

Without a word, Sixtus turns, makes his way over to his fellow cleric of Gargul and quickly begins muttering more blessings, spreading small pulses of white-blue light to the gnarly gashes across his thighs. After allowing the smallest of his blessings to start stitching the wounds closed, Sixtus realizes that he is not making enough progress and again asks his god to change the function of a blessing which he prayed for so long ago in the morning**.

Padre's healing - DM Jim
Wednesday August 12th, 2009 10:47:14 PM

Coming to his senses, Padre quickly makes the rounds and calls upon his god to heal those afflicted with grevious wounds.

Bosk is at 7hp
Xeron is at 3hp

Both may act normally now, albeit, they are still in some pain, especially Bosk the Scarred :)

Staring at the bloody sight before him Valla is sent back through his memories. His eyes show a burning sorrow, he stares at his armlength scar and claws at his face. So much blood, this little one did this much damage! Will their ever be peace.... Shaking his head, giving the halfling a sharp kick to the ribs Stupid girl! he screams. Then, kneeling down to the body, Valla takes the master work short sword, I'll keep this I think... With that he pulls off the sheath and belts it on the opposite side of his long sword.

Watching Padre heal both his fallen comrads, Valla seems more at ease when the blood stops flowing out of the minotaur and rogue. How goes it big man? Glad to see your back umong us, walking around and such. He then nods to Xeron, with a small smile.

Then taking the helmet into his hand he looks at it with an intent look, studying the seemingly magic helmet*. Its this Sixtus, the helmet gave this little one her disguise, I belive the other girl had the same enchantment. Im sure its the same throughout their entire company. He looks to Lenwe, You think these are the goblins you heard about at the tavern? I somehow doubt these people were leaving heads empty. He refers to the rumors Lenwe had told them about after the confrontaion with the gnome and his group.

I must know though, Valla takes the helmet and slides it onto his own head, How do I look? He says with a grin.

Giving the female halfling a sharp kick to the ribs sends her into a momentary spasm, then it slowly eases as she lets out her last breath, her eyes open and staring out into nothingness (Valla has earned 1 alignment mark)

Placing the dead halflings helmet on his head, nothing seems to change you need to make a Use Magic Device roll).

Treasure splitting/shares - DM Jim
Wednesday August 12th, 2009 11:54:37 PM

You guys need to decide on a method of treasure sharing. In most games here you simply figure out the total value of everything, multiply it by 0.9 (what you would get from selling it in the Catacombs) and then divide by the number of people sharing the spoils. if you decide to keep something, you would simply subtract it from your share. If it were more than you were supposed to receive, then you would owe the rest of the group and it would come out of your next treasure split if everyone agreed.

You need to all agree on a method. First come, first serve tends to piss off a lot of people, but that's up to you guys, but you need to come to a mutual agreement.

Drew on Treasure Sharing
Thursday August 13th, 2009 12:03:04 AM

I was just talking with Eric/Sanji about this issue this afternoon. In the former Wold game that I played in we did exactly what DMJim has recommended above with great success and fairness.

Everything goes in to the pool and gets sold off, unless someone wants an item from the pool. If so, they pay the pool with the value of the item they wish to keep (or some variation on this process).

I also propose that we try to keep any expendable items such as Potions, Oils, Scrolls, and Wands for group use, where we distribute the items as they seem most useful and do not include those items' costs in to the pool.

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6 *SHIELD*  d20+1=8 ;
Thursday August 13th, 2009 8:39:55 AM

Thats sound good to me. In that case Valla will pay (if he has enough) to keep the short sword, and if everyone agrees. As for the helmet Use Magic Device: 8

Also, not sure what the alignment mark means, but Valla did not kick the girl out of anger, entirely, he kicked her out of frustration, and mixed emotions. Seeing his comrades on the ground bleeding to death made him remember the slaughter of his own town, hence his scars.

Thursday August 13th, 2009 9:25:39 AM

Bathed in the blackness of oblivion, Bosk allows his mind to relax as the pain slowly begins to fade. Far off in the distance he can hear a soft voice calling to him, calling his name. I wish the voice would stop. Every time it speaks the pain comes back. Just let me sleep. Why won't you let me be? The voice continues and his pain begins to return and to grow, however it is not as bad as it had been. Slowly he opens his eyes and allows his blurred vision to adjust. Green? Green eyes...staring at me. Why?

"Get up big man, get up!"

Realizing what must have happened to him, for the second time in as many days, the Minotaur stands and clasps Padre's arm. Took you long enough, he says with a grin. "Please tell me that you at least finished off the lumpys first. Looking around, Bosk indeed sees the dead goblins in addition to the corpses of some people he had not seen before. Seeing the woman with a severed goblin's head he puts two and two together. Pointing to the headless woman he says How did they do that? Searching around for the answer he sees Xeron, still bloody and partially injured. Taking a step to help the young rogue he realizes that Xeron was not the only one needing assistance. "Padre, it seems Gargul has some work yet for me to do tonight. I will tend to the others and then I should take my hour of devotion (and regaining my spells) thanking our Master for our victory...and my life. If you could keep an eye out for anything of interest for me, I would appreciate it. If I could find a way to shrink down to goblin size, it could come in handy in the future.

Placing a bloodied hand on symbol around his neck he begins to speak. Gargul, thank you for finding the grace to spare my life. Give me the strength to carry out your will, to spread your word, and to help my friends.[b] As he speaks, he begins to straighten. The pain in his legs having entirely diminished he walks over to Xeron and offers his aid. [b]Gargul, bless this man who aided me in my time of need. He showed courage and chased down those who would destroy the balance of life and death, those who would kill many without just cause or reason.**

Feeling his master's presence diminish, the horned cleric realizes that his healing capacity has greatly diminished. He will only be able to cure a few minor wounds before the grace of Gargul leaves him for the night. Hurrying over to Sanji he says a quick prayer, healing her partially. I am sorry I cannot do more at the moment. This battle has left me drained, however this should help the healing process." Walking over to Lenwe, and using the very last of his abilities for the night , he says a prayer over Lenwe and feels the presence of his master no longer. He knows that Gargul will never leave him, but that he always tries to maintain a balance. "This is all the healing I can do for today. he says to Lenwe. Hopefully it will be enough to see you through the night. I should have regained some of my abilities by the morning.

ooc: That sounds like a fair way to split the treasure to me.

Xeron walks faster towards the light and his smiling mother when she says "I am so proud of you. You are doing so good. But you are more good to do "Her eyes are full of love and her naive, simple beauty is overwhelming. Xeron stops and suddenly opens his eyes and sees Padre.

Everything comes back to his mind: the fight, the dagger near the heart. He smiles at the cleric "Thank you Padre. I owe you a life!"

He looks at Sanji and sees blood "Are you ok? with a lot of concern in his voice. Then he turns around " She is alive and you nearly die! Do you really believe she would care for such a loser!"

He starrts walking around and sees Valla. He points to his bloody armor "So Scarface, do you still doubt my desire to die for the group?" He extends his hand toward the elf.

He approcahes one of the unconcious "goblins" and addresses the group "Where I grew up, we never left witness or survivors because you did not want to give someone a second chance to put a dagger in your back. But I left the guild and promised to do good! Is the group ok with me finishing them off or do you want to save our would be attackers?"
He waits for the group answer and if the consensus is no prisoners, he will finish them all, except the one that Bask wants to save. If the group want to keep them alive, he will search them throuroughlly, aving so issues emptying cadavers pockets (take 20 on search +7 modifier).

He bends over, his robust belly obscuring his vision no more, "That's Iris, I fired her and her band today. What would she be doing in cahoots with goblins?" Looking about some more and seeing the headless female body with a detached goblin head, "Magic is afoot ladies and gentlemen, perhaps you should search this vermin and remove any armor and such to break any lingering spells, but be careful, it may be booby-trapped!" Penn takes a few steps back, heeding his own words of caution.

Xeron's concern pulls Sanji's mind out of the realm of battle and brings her back to her senses. She wipes her blade clean on the back of the nearest fallen enemy and slides it back into its sheath. Thank you. I'll live. It's good to see you are alright. It seems that more than one of us had a close encounter tonight.

Sanji is relieved to see that Mr. Penn isn't harmed. These strange creatures were enchanted to alter their appearance? Why would you do such a thing? Glancing around at her comrades, she is relieved to see that they are all still standing. Well, it sure is a good thing that we have no shortage of clerics around. Thanks for the help. She flashes Bosk a crooked smile and gives him a playful wink.

Her gaze drifts over the array of fallen enemies and her mind instantly changes gears. Well, let's see what items they will be forfeiting to us. She looks at Xeron with more than a little mischief in her eyes. Let's split the work. I'll take half, you take half.

Sanji will check "Goblins" 1, 2, 3, and 4. Heeding Mr. Penns words, she will check the fallen enemies for traps before removing their armor and belongs. If there are no traps, she will remove the items and place them in a pile in front of Mr. Penn's tent.

A rogue with a heart, something i've yet to see.... Im glad to have you on my side, Xeron, thats for sure. Next time though, say something to a mage. I do have spells to help protect you, helping your thin armor. Since you like being in the fray. Myself, I prefer a nice one on one combat, or casting from the side if Im able.

I can shield you my big friend, although its not the best... IF bosk ends up attempting to disarm any traps, IF that is, Valla will cast mage armor on the 'taur.

Valla stands there, and hears Mr. Penn identify the female that was the victim of Valla's expertly place arrow. If you fired her, she probably came back, to steal what she thought she deserved. Can I ask why you fired her and her band? That may help us figure out why they came back this night.

While waiting for Penns reply Valla goes back to studying the helmet. Looking inside, outside, pressing anything, running his hands over what ever looks interesting. Trying to get it to activate when he puts it on. Also trying to figure out what sort of magic has been imbued on the helmets.

But, I believe they picked your camp, on the night after you fired them of course, for the fact to keep their promise of Bad things will happen I also think we should try and heal one of them, but, our clerics seem to have spent their gods favor already. Padre, Bosk, I'll try to keep one of them alive for when you guys are done praying.

With that, and waiting for Xeron and Sanji to get done searching and looting, Valla strolls to one of the opponents that isn't dead, and appears to be the lest hurt, (#8) and attempts to help bind the creatures wounds. Sixtus watches as the group reassembles and begins talking of what has happened and what is to come. His eyes go wide in disbelief as Venbolio announces his presence and unknowingly the young cleric shakes his head. He listens to his employers words about what should be done and bites down a bit harder on his lip as the feeling washing over him is annoyance and embarrassment.

"Thank you Master Venbolio."

As Bosk and Xeron acknowledge their gratitude for the blessings which Sixtus bestowed upon them, the cleric merely smiles softly and nods slowly in return.

As various issues of the bodies, belongings, and butchery arise Sixtus holds up his hands and addresses the group while rushing over to the fallen enemies and kneeling beside each on in turn who shows signs of life. He begins administering whatever layman knowledge of healing that he has picked up over the years to the fallen combatants*.

"Okay associates, let us get on the same line of thought with our next actions. What we do with the few who have lived is exactly what defines us as individuals and as a group. Sure, we could kill all of them and no one would be the least bit upset. I however, believe that they still hold breath thanks to the Gatekeeper of Souls...thanks to Gargul. He is the one who has already decided their fate, and that fate is to breath again. Bosk, I ask that you assist me in ensuring that these last few are stable enough to last until the morning as my blessings from Gargul have been claimed for this day."

Sixtus turns to watch the two rogues quickly begin to inspect the corpses and interjects, "Sanji and Xeron, make a pile of all valuables next to the campfire for closer inspection. We should sell everything not of use to anyone and use the gold to further our individual causes as we see fit. If you wish to keep anything that these offenders have, you will be expected to pay the going rate for the item back in to the collective pool as compensation for the rest of the group."

Lastly, Sixtus turns and stares deeply into the eyes of his employer. "Master Venbolio, you are a man of business and I am a man of my word. Our prices do not rise for the course of this week which you have hired on for. Furthermore, you being a man of business and all, should probably get back to sleep so that you are vibrant and sharp in the morn. Good night sir, and may Gargul not wish to judge you for many years to come."

Penn turns and returns hastily from whence he came, but not before saying over his shoulder, "Be sure to dispose of the corpses way over there in Pig alley"

Xeron begins removing all of the helmets off the fallen foes and in turn each transforms into something different--a human here, a half-orc there, but not the gnome they had encountered earlier in the day. In fact, upon careful searching, the rogue notices each is wearing an insignia on the bottom wristcuff of their shirts that resemble a chainlinked band, which was different from the gnome earlier today and in a different location. Xeron also notices that as he readies himself to start the bloodletting, Padre is administering to all the remaining injured foes, intent on keeping them alive.

Deep in prayer, Padre's voice once again begins to cut into the Minotaur's subconscious. As long as I didn't remove the Padre's bandages and disturb the clotting in progress, I believe that between the two of us, we have a reasonable chance of stabilizing the three long enough for me to regain the ability to cast some healing spells on them.

"Well, I think that is all I can do for now. Perhaps if it is still needed, the others can attempt to lend you a hand. I am going to go back to my meditation, and hopefully they will survive long enough for me to regain Gargul's blessing."

Heading back to where he was meditating, Bosk picks up one of the helmets and fumbles with it for a few minutes before returning to his meditation.

(I made several rolls of different types for the helmets, not sure what to do to figure them out. My Use magic Device and Spell Craft have no rank points in them, I am at work and couldn't remember if I needed special training to roll for those or if I needed the training to add ranks to them...or if was something else entirely. I will double check when I get home.)

Sanji (Eric) AC: 18/15/13 HP: 4
Friday August 14th, 2009 1:04:07 PM

Sanji admires the newly acquired loot with an envious eye. Several of the items in the pile could suit her well. I'm finally part of something. And, now that I am part of this group, I'll have to learn to share. Let's hope it lasts... She glances over the still living enemies and watches as Padre and Bosk attend to them. Hearing Valla's words, she decided to add her own voice to the discussion. I do agree that keeping them alive would be the more noble thing to do. But, there is wisdom in what Valla is saying. Perhaps we should leave one alive so he can bring the tale of their utter defeat to his comrads, if he has any. But, I see no point in keeping more than one alive. These people made a choice, as we did, to fight. Had they not been willing to fight and die and kill, they would have run off when we first discovered them. Dispaching these fallen foes is not evil. I would place it securely in the realm of precaution. When fighting a battle, you don't engage your enemies, defeat them, and let them go so they can have another chance to kill you.

Sanji paces a little as if thinking. The smile has left her lips and the envious eye is gone from her face. But, I will not go against the will of the group. If you all truely feel we should let them live then so be it. Just let it be known that if these same foe rise against us again, then some of you folks will owe me the most expensive pint of ale we can find. The crooked smile once again decorates her face. She scans the group wondering what the final decision will be.

Let's dispose of the ones who are already dead in accordance with Mr Penn's wishes. Can anyone give me a hand? She walkes to the closest dead body and grabs ahold of it by the feat.

Xeron moves his dagger away as Padre speaks. But Valla comments makes him moves the dagger closer to the thorat. After hearing Sanji, Xeron nods and dispaches of all the survivors but one.

(Assuming he can do that) He then rises and looks at the group. "I am sorry if I offended you Padre and Bosk but this is the way thing works here in Mudtown. If we get the reputation of a group not to be messed around, everyone, including your employer. And please remember that although I know that your god Gargul exists as I have seen his magic, I do not worship him. "

Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 | [Drew]
Saturday August 15th, 2009 3:18:41 PM

"STOP!" chokes Sixtus as the shifty rogue slits the throat of a survivor. His hands go up in a nonthreatening fashion as he beings walking towards Xeron. His head shakes slightly and his chest is rising in falling deeply; perhaps it is adrenaline, perhaps it is anger, perhaps it is witnessing the needless shedding of blood.

"Xeron, stop, please. Just because everyone else here in Mudtown does things this way does not mean that we have to. Perhaps that is why people doing business like that never seem to get out of this place."

Hoping that he has halted the killings, Sixtus will resume his work trying to stablize the rest. After a mere moment of thought, he looks over his shoulder at Xeron and says with a somber note:

"You say that you owe me a life. This is it. These other two people mean that I am not in debted to you for two lives. I hope that it takes the rest of my days to fulfill that debt, but it will be our barter none-the-less."

The paleness of his eyes betray the tiredness of his body and mind. The redness of his eyes betray the struggle he has had with the loss of life. Sixtus watches for a sign of acceptance or refusal from the rogue before getting back to his medic duties.

Xeron [sub Drew]
Saturday August 15th, 2009 3:40:11 PM

The resistance of flesh, sinew and cartilage ripple through his balde, into his hand and echo deeply in his heart. Xeron's blue eyes flash for a moment as a sanguine stream oozes from the throat of the downed enemy. The corners of his mouth quiver for a moment, trying desperately to turn upwards into a sneery smile. Suddenly Sixtus' words stop the attempt and he turns quickly to face the cleric.

He listens as the man proclaiming his devotion to the God of Death attempts to stop him from sending more souls to meet The Judge. His brow creases to a hard, furrowing mask of frustration and impatience. His breathing deepens as well, having tasted blood and the ways of his former life.

"Listen padre this is not Hook City, this is Mudtown. Everyone here knows their lot in life and chooses to live it without much complaint. The laws and morals of Hook City stop at that wall. Most people here would kill anyone who tried to rob their wares and steal their livelihood."

He waits for a minute and watches as the cleric says his peace and returns to administering to the fallen. His center begins to spin slightly and soon he feels as if he is about to lose control, but quickly reaches for the ring hanging from his neck to reground himself.

"You should kill them all. They tried to assasinate your employer and an example needs to be made...Shut up, your voice is nothing but the ghosts of my past..."

The voice disappears as Sixtus once again addresses him. He listens with intent and a small smile appears as the logic of the cleric rings true.

"I am out of your pocket and you owe me two? I cannot pass up an opportunity like that padre. Just remember the faces of the ones you set free. Hopefully, in the near future, they will not stare over you as your soul leaves to meet its maker."

Xeron raises the bloodied blade in his hand to his eyes and stares as the crimson sheen slowly glides down the steel and drips like rain to the mud below. Leaning over, he wipes his blade clean on the clothes of the one he just dispatched before returning the dagger to his boot.

Cleaning up - DM Jim
Monday August 17th, 2009 12:43:59 PM

Xeron stays his hand at Padre's behest after letting the blood of one of the remaining surviving attackers, leaving only a small number remaining alive, but unconscious.

Sanji, ever ready to dispose of the dead bodies, grabs the feet of one of the corpses, asks for help and receives none--maybe because no one knows where Pig Alley is.

The early morning drizzle begins to start and all in all, it's going to be another nasty day outside the walls of Hook City.

Drew
Monday August 17th, 2009 4:09:08 PM

Sixtus watches as the homely girl grabs the ankles of one of the corpses. His eyes are softer and more drowsy than usual, perhaps the toll of fighting wears harshly on the cleric? If he realizes that his pants are soaked and now coated with viscous mud, he makes no signs of it. Continuing to kneel in the glop, he does not stop bandaging and applying pressure and tying off and applying more pressure.

"A group of us should go, find out where Pig Alley is and get the bodies disposed of by whatever means Pig Alley offers. A few of us should stay though and keep the caravan under watch. I will stay with the unconscious here as I can continue tending to their wounds."

Sixtus, not wanting to make any more decisions this early in the morning, watches as the group sorts out who is doing what. He is meticulous in his practice of healing and tender with every touch. The cleric goes as far as to begin cleaning off smeared mud and splatters of blood from the mercenaries' faces.

"I need someone who knows knots and lashings to stay with me as well. Anyone have manacles and a lock with them either?"

Xeron [sub Drew]  d20=6 ; d20+4=14 ;

The rogue watches as the cleric continues to do whatever it is that he does with prisoners. Maybe he will give them a hug before they leave too.

Frustration rising, Xeron leaps at the opportunity to leave for a moment. Almost as soon as Sanji asks, he is on arm duty for the same corpse that she begins to lift. His hands grip futilely as most of the body is covered in mud and blood and the arms continually slide out of his grasp.

Get a grip, boy! She must think you are pathetic! Can't even hold on to a dead body. Pathetic. You were so much better in the darkness of night, slitting throats."

"So where do you think this Pig Alley is anyways. Perhaps we should start looking or ask someone?"

With that, he watches the girl called Sanji out of the corner of his eye, wanting to see how she operates and to pick up any tricks that she may know.

Great no one knows where to dump the bodies. Frustration begins to rear its ugly head as Sanji remembers that she didn't get to sleep as long as she would have liked. Sleeplessness combined with combat has put her a little on edge. With a wet sounding 'thud', Sanji drops the corpses feet back into the mud and paints her face with an irritated look. Ok where is this stupid alley anyway? Does anyone know? They raising her vioce, Does anyone know where Pig Alley is? Her head raised and arms spread wide, she seems to be asking her question to the clouds. Sanji doesn't seem to care that it's the middle of the night and other people might be woken up by her loud inquisition.

Sanji looks around and cocks her head to the side as if she is waiting for the night to respond?*,**
Looking at Padre, and still a little irritated, she indicates toward the survivors. I can use ropes pretty well. Do you need something tied now or can it wait until we return from where ever Pig Alley is?

Looking around, Sanji suddenly feels a little sheepish, realizing that she is taking her frustration on her companions. She places her hands on her hips and hangs her head. I'm sorry guys. I'm not mad at any of you. Just upset at the situation. I get a little....cranky when I don't get enough sleep. Sorry...

Not being able to sleep immediately due to the shouting, Penn himself shouts out, "It's that way!" then realizes no one can see him point while he's under his cot. "Due Southeast, about 30 minutes by wagon, at the base of the cemetary!" Penn settles back in, then remembers to put the cotton back in his ears and wistfully goes back to sleep.

Padre smiles in grim satisfaction of at least stabilizing the remaining foes they had fought not some ten minutes ago. Dawn would break soon, it's rosy fingers stretching over the horizon--it was sure to be a long day.

As Sanji lets go of the corpse, the dead weight nearly pulls Xeron over and on top of the bag of bones. He stumbles a bit but quickly regains his balance before casting a confused look at the female with brown eyes. He trows his hands up nonchalantly in mock frustration before mimicking his counterpart's motion towards the heavens.

Xeron is about to speak when Venbolio Penn gruffly interjects the directions. Without a sound, Xeron points a hand to Venbolio's tent and the disembodied voice echoing from it and then back to the corpse at the two rogues' feet. With a short, curt bow Xeron bends back over and attempts to pull the deceased back up.

"By cart? That would make things a whole bunch easier. Where are we going to get a cart?"*

padre Sixtus Torquemada
Wednesday August 19th, 2009 12:11:22 AM

Sixtus' lips draw draw back in a look of shocked contemplation as Sanji lets her frustration boil over. He eyes her and the stumbling Xeron for a moment before rising from completing his medic duties. The cleric's mouth opens just as Venbolio's voice erupts from somewhere within the tent. He looks back to the female rogue, tightens his lips and shrugs his shoulders.

"I will need a while in peace and silence to pray to Gargul for the blessings which he bestows upon me. The minotaur is already deep in his thoughts and prayers so I suggest that we wait until everyone is rested and prepared for what will surely be a lengthy day ahead of us. Once everyone is ready we will decide who goes and who stays. We will need muscle, voice and finesse in both groups if at all possible."

With that being said, Sixtus will make his way to the caravan where Ariman has slept the sleep of the dead. He looks for a decent place to kneel and begins lighting a few candles. Once his area is set up, Sixtus reaches deep in to the folds of his clothes and pulls out the wooden Eye of Gargul symbol. Holding it in both hands, the cleric begins a silent homage and requiem to the Gatekeepr of Souls.

Spells Prepared

Bosk Deox (James) AC 14/10/10 HP 14 of 14
Wednesday August 19th, 2009 8:18:59 AM

ooc: Just curious about the rules. I know that a Cleric can only regain his spell points once per day. The battle began just after Sixtus finished praying to regain his spell points, however in this scenario (I believe) Sixtus already had all of his spell points. Does this mean that Sixtus can still regain his points for the day. I don't remember reading a specific rule for this, other than what I wrote above, so I assume it is the DM's interpertation.

Drew
Wednesday August 19th, 2009 9:34:28 AM

James - I talked this over with DMJim via email. I had not specifically stated that I was going to pray for my spells like Naru had stated about memorizing her spells as "soon as she woke up". My intentions for Sixtus (which I think all of you will agree with as fitting his personality) is that he will not begin preparing his spells for the day until everyone is awake. I may change this once in a blue moon, but Sixtus would not want to jeopardize the group or his job by cutting in to his watch duty with prayer.

Sorry for the confussion.

Bosk Deox (James) AC 14/10/10 HP 14 of 14
Wednesday August 19th, 2009 11:12:55 AM

That makes sense. Although I was trying to use this as an example to clarify the issue in my mind for future creference, and I am still curious as to Jim's response if my character, who meditates daily at a specified time, were to use his spells early in the day and needed to regain his spell points. Could he do so considering he had already spent his hour in prayer but did not need to regain any spell points at the time.

-- As I see it, Clerics have a specific time everyday at which they pray for their gods divine blessing and if are found worthy, are rewarded with the ability to cast spells in the form of prayers. I would think Gargul clerics would meditate once a day, 30 minutes before midnight to 30 minutes after midnight, but there's nothing in the rules to say that is so. So anyways... once a day, every day, at the same time or later, but not sooner.

Still more than a little irritated with being robbed of sleep, Sanji fights to remain civil. She looks over at Xeron at the mention of a cart and scans the camp and sees two wagons. I suppose we could use one of those but I would rather get some more shut-eye first.

When Padre speaks up about needing rest, she nods her head. Good, go and seek your blessings. While you are doing that, I am going to try and get an hour or so of sleep. Unless something needs to be done right now, my bedroll is calling my name. She places her hands on her hips in a very defiant fashion, almost daring anyone to try and stop her.

She returns to her bedroll and tries to sleep unless stopped with other concerns.

Finishing his prayers the horned cleric unfolds his legs and moves around the camp, examining the group's prisoners in order to determine their health. He then reaches into his bag and discovers that he forgot to bring any rope with him and makes a mental note to buy some the next time he his in town. Moving among his group of fellow Mudders, he asks his fellow mercenaries if he can borrow theirs some of theirs. Assuming someone will lend some rope to him, the Minotaur quickly binds each prisoner securely* and then gags them using pieces of cloth from their fallen comrades.

"Sanji, if I could please get you to stay awake just a little longer. I am about to bring back a couple of our friends here for questioning. Somehow, I think that you and Xeron may have more than a little skill in this area.

Bosk then calls the rest of the group together, feeling it is better to have everyone aware of what is going on before he wakes their captives up.

I suggest we question these guys one at a time, and that everyone listens for any duplicity that may be going on. I can help Valla with the bodies when we are done. I have gotten enough sleep for now. Before I wake any of them, we should have a couple men standing back a little ways, incase the ones with magic ability try to pull off some sort of stunt, and to keep an eye out for anyone who may be sneaking up on us while we are distracted by question these guys. We want to determine exactly why they attacked us, where/who they got these helmets from and why, what the helmets do and how to use them, and how many others (men and helmets) there may be. Padre, I may need you help for this. I don't know if I I have enough power to be able to wake them all myself. Any other suggestions or volunteers for positions or questioning?

"I almost forgot. We should decide what to do about Ariman's refusal or inability to get up and fight. My feeling is that he has forfeited his share of the gold Penn is paying us. If we make him leave now, Penn may not give it to us. If we allow him to stay under the condition he gives it to us, it may make it easier for him to get a job in the future at the cost of lining our pockets. However we can discuss this later.

Coming out of deep prayer where he gave many thanks for the blessings to save the minotaur's life yet again, Sixtus watches with muffled ears and sticky eyes as the rest of the group scuttles about around the camp. In one spot is the pile of unfortunate corpses, in another are the unconscious. Ariman is no where to be found still and Bosk beings addressing the group with an idea of how to get information. Watching as the blonde beast speaks, Sixtus tries to come to full awareness and attentiveness for the pressing situation at hand. His head begins to nod with agreement, the slightly graying-brown hair trying to bob back and forth with the motion despite being damped by the continual rain.

"Bosk, I have some fine silken rope to use if anyone knows how to tie a strong knot or two. Also, I will take the lead on questioning if you do not want to do that part yourself. I have a way with people and not all of that is with words...I cannot expalin it really. And of course I will help in healing them up to consciousness."

Sixtus watches as the blue-eyed rogue mentions a few vital points of information; the helmets and the connection to the goblin raids, along with the loot from the battle. He nods agreement to Xeron as well.

"if anyone care to help me with the questioning, I feel that warm smiles and calm tones would be the best way to start*. That being said, if we get no cooperation then the next step is to scare them senseless. Also, before we start, we should cover up the bodies of the dead so that they cannot be seen until we deem it appropriate."

"I am not the most diplomatic of the bunch, but if you wish it I can aid you. However I believe that I may be better suited for the less diplomatic approach...that is if diplomacy fails. Hopefully once they wake up bound and surrounded by their foes they will not need so much convincing. If, by the third one, we have learned nothing, it may be a good idea to try a little trickery. After hearing about your little adventure at the Mug-O-Rama, I wonder what would hapen if we cast a charm person spell on one of them as they wake up. Give them some ale, perhaps have Sanji or Naru flirt a little bit to put them at ease. We can save that as a last resort. Save our majic for now, or if need be give Naru a chance to prepare the spell."

ooc: If asked to help Padre and the DM allows, Bosk will help Padre. If not he will try to intimidate the information out of the captive. (One move or the other. Not both). Sanji (Eric) AC: 18/15/13 HP: 6  d20+6=26 ;
Friday August 21st, 2009 9:09:57 AM

Sanji glances toward her bedroll longingly as Bosk asks her to stay awake a little longer to help with the questioning. A large pout decorates her face, much like a child. Obviously, she is not excited about staying awake. Alright, I'll help where I can. But, I might not be the best person to try and coax info out of these folks using kind actions. I'm not exactly in a "flirty" mood. If the acts of kindness fail to draw out the answers we're looking for, I agree that it would be a good idea to try and scare them. Perhaps we can start loading up the corpses in clear view of them. Either way, do what you will. I will stand back until I am needed. I say we get on with things and start the questioning.

Not waiting for a response from the group, Sanji walks over to her pack and picks up her water skin. She removes the stopper and takes 2 large swallows of water, allowing a few drops to trickle down her chin. She dribbles some on her face in an attempt to remove some of the gime that was caked on during the battle. Feeling a little refreshed, she returns to the group in time to hear Padre offering the use of his rope. I crooked smile returns to her face at the prospect of displaying her skills. I would love to help you with this.

Sanji will take Padre's rope, if he allows it, and return to the prisoners. Can someone help me put these guys in a sitting position? Once in that position, she will bind their hands behind their back at the wrists, and their feet at the ankles.*

Bosk smiles at Sanji's response. He was unsure how Naru would respond, but he had a feeling that Sanji would respond as she did.

"You don't have to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. It was only a suggestion. I did think there was a chance you would enjoy playing with thier minds and taking advantage of thier weaknesses. Fore some reason guys like this often times have a tendency to let their gaurd down and underestimate women. It is nice to teach them a lesson once in a while."

As Sanji begins squirting water on her face, the rogue does his best not to stare. He watches as the female thief expertly ties up the prisoners and knots them perfectly. With a nod of approval, Xeron walks behind the bound group into a spot of moderate concealment.

I want to be close enough to strike if necessary but I do not want them to see me if possible. The element of surprise could end the fight before they are free of the ropes if it comes down to it. One slit little man, just one flash of steel...STOP IT!

Without a sound, the rogue looks at Sixtus, Bosk, and Lenwe and then points to the side of the cart. Xeron begins to pick his way through the mud around the side of the closest caravan, hoping to be as close to striking distance as possible without being seen*.

Sixtus watches as his colleagues begin with preparatory actions for the interogation. As they work, the cleric walks over to the fire, grabs one of the logs used for sitting nad drags it over in front of the knotted group. Plopping it down about 15 feet from the prisoners, he pulls his axe from his back and places it behind the log with just the end of the handle resting on it for quick access if need be. He notes the number of unconscious and when everyone is ready, he silently points to the one furthest left for Bosk to heal.

"Lenwe, Naru, and Valla, be on the ready. Xeron and Sanji eyes wide, ears perked."

While the minotaur begins praying for the healing powers of Gargul, sixtus also requests a divine favor in the form of a bit of guidance*. As Bosk grants the heealing touch of Gargul upon the one farthest left to Sixtus, Sixtus sits, hands clasped together, with warm eyes and a relaxed face. He shifts his body into a non-stiff demeanor, licks his lips and watches as the person's eyes go from foggy to semi-alert to attentive.

"Ahh, welcome back. I am Sixtus Torquemada and I have spared your life. May I have your name please?* Last night you and your group attempted to infiltrate our caravan and take revenge on your former employer." Sixtus smiles gently. "I am sorry that we could not allow that to happen. I do not claim to know the entire story but I do know that Venbolio fired your group yesterday and I am sorry that you found yourself without employment. I understand the hardship in which that puts you."

Sixtus waves a slow arm towards Sanji.

"May we offer you a drink of water?"

Waiting for a response, Sixtus takes a moment to look over the conscious one, allowing a moment to pass for any sort of short repsonse.

"Very well. I have a few questions for you [insert name here if given]. Your helmets. Who makes such an item? Are you the only ones to possess these helmets? Also, fill me in to your side of the story about the Iron Bands and Venbolio Penn."

After the first interrogation is finished, Sixtus will take a moment to settle down, collect his thoughts and any useful information given and then allow the next one to be healed into consciousness. The string of interrogation will be very similar for the first round of questions.

Groggily at first, then wincing in pain, the revived half-orc sits up and takes in his surroundings. His eyes dart back and forth and it's evident he's assessing the situation at hand. When offered water or asked any questions, he does not reply except to say, "You guys are dead. You have only one chance out of this and that's to let us go, or the rest of my group will be here later and they won't be sneaking about, they'll be here for blood."

We had to wake the half orc first...so much for diplomacy.

Bosk pulls Padre aside and whispers so that the Orc can hear. "I don't think this one is going to cooperate easily. However, I think I know of a way to hurt this one's reputation and encourage his friend to be more easliy persuaded. Let's gag him again and put a little sand or cooking spices in his eyes. Make it look like he has been crying like a baby. Besides making his friends think that we broke him and will do that same to them, we will have reunied his and his group's reputation here. No one will hire a half-orc that was seen crying like that....Especially if we march him through town naked." Bosk gives a conceled winkto the Padre, carefull that the half-orc cannot seee. At this point he his unsure how Sixtus will respond, but surely a little pepper in the face is better than cutting the guy's ears off.

Whiping his eyes, the mud and rain, he unsheaths his short sword (I assume that is takin care of, no one ever replyed to me on that.... "If someone has pepper or something else, rub it in his eyes." Sixtus stares at the half-orc with great intent, trying to figure out if his words were sincere*.

Everyting in my travel rations is dried, salted and very spicy. It helps them keep from spoiling on long journeys. If we make it look like we completely broke this ones spirit, the weaker and smallest of his party may be less willing to with hold information. How can they expect to handle punishment which broke the orc? However, this time we will be less diplomatic and a little more intimidating. Everyone should look like they are out for blood. If there are no objections, or the orc doesn't spill his guts, Bosk will knock him out (trying hard not to kill him) and place the salt and spice in the orcs eyes, gag him, and try to make him look as discheveled and broken as possible. He will then heal the smallest and weakest looking member of the orcs party.

If they get loose before his band comes, which Im sure they will come we don't need Bubba Orc here telling them which of us can do what. Therefore giving them guidlines on making a strategy.

Valla Goes back to his spot, searching the distant area around the camp*, and listening for anything that might prove to be an approaching band.** He takes his sword and starts to scrap some mud off his boots, with a disgusted look about his face as he works, and offers one last comment, I also think it would be a good idea to set and wait for this band, ambushing them if possible. "Hold! You have come at a very curious and dangerous time. You claim that you are not with this group*. You want to kill them? Perhaps you can. We do not torture. We have save a few of the captives' lives and healed them. We have given them water and have, in no way, tortured them."

Well that didn't take long. Sanji eyes the new comer with its axe drawn as it enters the camp. Right away something doesn't seem right. Why does it speak like it wants to kill our captive? And in a fair fight, no less. Peaking out from behind Padre, Sanji is still making her dagger dance between her fingers as the new comer keeps talking. Hearing Padre and Bosk respond to new half-orc about peace and acts of faith, she slides her dagger home in its sheath. It seems almost too good to be true. And must your really fight these others? They are obviously already subued, and constrained as to prevent anything they may try and pull. The minotaur feels some pity for the young half-orc. He is about to speak to the group about giving in to the new comer's request when he has an idea. Maikill, you said that he was the boss and that his men killed your clan. Wouldn't you like to be able to find out where his band is and how many of them there are? That way you can make sure you find them all. If you help us scare the little one into telling us, then you will know. He will even tell you their evil tricks. We already learned that they have helmets that make them look like other people. It makes them look like goblins, so that you don't really know who they are. If you help us scare the little one, we may even let you join us. Also, the big orc said that his band will come to rescue him. If they do, then you can help us kill all of them."

All seems quiet this early morning as the newcomer pleads to kill the unconscious half-orc laying behind Bosk in a fair fight.

The wind starts to pick up a little and the drizzle starts coming down at an angle, perhaps the rest of the day won't be as nice (Survival DC15 to forecast weather Highlight to display spoiler: {Tons of rain coming in an hour or two}).

The rogue watches warily as the half-orc continues talking with the two clerics and the scarred elf. He wants to chime in, knowing full well that in Mudtown, anyone can be affiliated with anyone and that there is no way to tell and no way to be certain...ever. However, deep in the pit of his stomach, something tells him to keep rooted, to keep hidden and to wait just a few more moments until the new half-orc lops off the head of Sixtus and eats his brains for a lite snack. Xeron closes his eyes for a split second, just to erase the mental image that somehow found itself dancing across his feld of vision.

Just go now...do it now and the cleric will thank you for saving his life...GO!

Like a deer picking up a scent, Xeron's ears perk, his eyes flash about, but nothing will get him to move from his hiding place until the opportunity arises*.

Sixtus watches as Bosk addresses the questions from the half-orc and as he changes approaches to getting the slow-speaker to understand Sixtus cannot help but chuckle softly. His eyes betray being impressed and to conceal the breakout across his face, he looks to the sky and the light rain that continues to fall*.

Returning his attention to the situation at hand, Sixtus strides forward with Bosk, his eyes intently acknowledging Valla.

"Big one. You want to kill this one who has killed your mother and clan? Why not wait for the rest of his clan to arive and kill him amongst his people? Bring utmost shame upon him as his last breath escapes his body. His clan is coming to fight us. You fight with us and you can have the honor of seeking revenge against him. You can have the honor of killing him yourself. Sound fair?"

Turning to the side, Sixtus looks at Lenwe with imploring eyes, hoping that the mage has something powerful enough ready for whatever may happen.

Valla nodsd to sixtus as the blue eyes pour into the elf. At that moment, Valla averts his gaze, and stares into the sky*. Letting the continuing drizzle fall onto his face and embracing the droplets, hoping that it may wash some of the mud from his dirty cloak. He uses his free hand to scratch his bicep and runs a finger down his scars, the rain splashing his face and confronting a Half-orc, actually speaking to one, brings back harmful and horrid memories... With a sigh the elf brings his sorrow filled eyes to look upon the Half-orc once more. My-a-kill? I agree with my horned friend here, fight aganist this band that is coming for us. Then, to this elf at least, you will have proved you speak the truth. You will also have proved your worth to us as a group, which as Bosk said would lead you to being accepted to travel and work among us. Valla sighs once more, Im trusting a halforc to save my neck in battle? This is one step forward, I guess, to trusting a race of which I has no love for. This individual may shed new light on my views of these horrid creatures. Or so I can only hope, no... I must believe this to be true.... I must...

Of course its your choice... But if you'd like a chance to prove yourself to there band, and our group, this would be your best option... Valla crosses his arms in front of his stomach, sword pointing to the ground. He looks around, trying to spot Xeron, so that he knows where the rogue is, to be able to cast a protection spell on the daring human, if needbe.

Ariman- DM Jim
Thursday August 27th, 2009 5:09:28 PM

With a great yawn, Ariman rises from his cot. Noticing Naru near by he smiles and tiredly gets up, tilts his head to her and exits the tent. Stretching his arms to the sky, he is greeted by a cool drizzle of rain that seemed to be ever present outside the walls of Hook City.

Looking about and seeing the aftermath of the carnage and a lone half-orc stranger conversing with the group, he asks, "Did I miss something?"

Those turning to look at Ariman notices his appearance has changed. His face is alabaster white, his eyebrows are huge and painted on, ending in a curlique, as does his painted on mustache. His lips are almost as huge and bright red. In the tent, a muffled giggle can be heard.

then with a look of confusion and some small amount of enlightenment he adds:

"I say before, this look bad. I look bad, look orc. You say, I do. Then you know I good. You say. I kill when you say."

Maikill leaves his axe on the ground and awaits instructions.

Valla's frustration with the lazy human seems to boil over quite quickly, in spite of his hot temper, Valla mumbles Finally we reach an agreement Then he speaks alittle louder, Well big fella nodding to bosk, "Ready when you are Valla grins, and takes his plave behind the next prisoner to be healed. Seeing the large half-orc drop his axe, Sanji allows herself a slight exhale of breath. She keeps her place next to the creature, just out of arms length, ready to act just the group has mis-interpreted his broken common.

Sanji keeps one eye on the new comer and the other on the prisoner who is about to be awakened. Again assuming her previous role, she draws her dagger and begins to make it dance accoss her fingers again. Hearing sounds of protest coming from her stomach, she realizes that it's been a while since she's eaten. Hoping to seam friendly to the half-orc, she begins making small talk. I wish there was a quicker way to do this. I'm getting hungry and it seems like I've lost any chance at going back to sleep.

Seeing Ariman exit his tent with his fresh decorations brings a smile back to Sanji's face. Serves him right. She shakes her head at her co-worker, slightly envious of his long slumber.

Looking up at the sky, the horned cleric gives a long sigh. We better prepare and get this show on the road. We are going to be getting a ton of rain in an hour or two.*
Seeing Maikill set down the axe he says,
Wealcome to the group Maikill. I am going to wake the smallest one of the captives up. I want everyone to look as intimidating, scar and upset as possible. I want weapons drawn and I want everyone to wear their battle faces. (Please eeone make an intimidate roll)

After reviving the smallest captive**, Bosk yells in his face. [b]You are going to tell us what we want to know, and you are not going to argue or we will get what we want to know out of you the hard way, like we did your friend there.[b] Bosk swings his head over towards the unconcious half orc, allowing his other horn to get dangerously close to the captives face.
I want to know why you attacked us, if there are more of you coming, and how you work these helmets. And don't think about lieing to us, we have magic that will let us know.

Xeron waits patiently...more patiently than his instincts tell him to in fact. His hiding spot is just too good to reveal at the moment and that voice in his head (or is it coming from the pit of his stomach?) tells him to stay for the perfect strike once things good awry.

His is SO close. Put him down before he can heal the leader or free all of them and send a signal to the rest of the Iron Band...SHUT UP!

Xeron waits, unconsciously holding his breath in anticipation for that one grunt, or leap, or flashing of the hidden dagger.

Sixtus reaches back for the gnarly looking waraxe strapped to his back and loosens it from its holster. He understands the intimidation factor of the blonde minotaur and feels that this time his words will not be wasted with those who do not wish to hear them.

Watching as the other cleric of Gargul administers his blessings upon the captive, Sixtus strides close to the smallest one, axe half-drawn back in a striking pose, green eyes burning with the same intensity as they did earlier in the day. He says nothing. His eyes speak more intention than words could ever express as he attempts to bolster his fellow cleric's intimidating demeanor.

He walks up just behind the captive, lays his shortsword on the back of its neck, Tell us what we want to know, little one. The elf then moves so the captive is in full view of the elfs disfigured face. Never taking the sword off the captive, he sneers and gets as close as he can, Want a face like mine? Smiling, Valla pokes the point of his sword at the captives cheek. A small speck of blood trickling down its neck and spreading over the elfs sword*.

"Please don't kill me!!! PLEASE!!!" pleads the young human female Bosk had healed and started interrogating, "I'll tell you anything, anything you want! Just don't hurt me!" Her eyes dart furtivily about taking in the situation--she was screwed. This awakened captive also happened to be the mage who plunged a dagger into Xeron, nearly killing him.

Dagger dancing over the top of her fingers, Sanji allows a mask of barely contained fury to paint itself across her face. Positioning herself next to the new half-orc, she glances over at him and winks once she hears the awakened captives rant. Finally we are getting somewhere.

Watching Bosk and Valla put on a sectacular performance, Sanji decides to offer the captive option. If you would like to consider an alternative to death, I'd suggest you answer their questions. We might be more gracious if you are in a devulgatory mood. Some of us are simply chomping at the bit to finish all of you off. Some more than other. Maikill, in the mood to kill, kicks his unconscious foe and then discovers to his amazement that the prone half-orc is a female.

Ariman scratches his head and tries to make out what happened, why they were threatening to kill a trussed up woman, and why the new half-orc stranger wanted to kill the unconscious half-orc stranger. "Okay, what in the heck is going on here? Unless I get an answer, I'm outta here, cause you guys shouldn't be torturing people!"

"No find Mother killer."

"You're an ass, Valla. If someone had bothered to wake me up, I would have helped. Pfft!" Ariman turns around and goes back into the tent as Naru exits--her face is a stifled laugh as she comes out and surveys the scene.

"Okay, okay," Katrin says, exasperatedly. "I'm part of the Iron Band, the most bloodthirsty bunch of mercenaries that ever worked Mudtown--but their greed exceeds their bloodlust by ten times. Ol' Penn fired a group of them today cause he wasn't willing to pay the extra fee, so they donned the hats once more time to make another raid and disguised themselves as goblins. The hats, uh, helmets, are magical and change the way you look when you invoke their magic when worn. You have to think of what you want, then say the magic word, "Shizzlebop." As to how many are left, I think 10 back at main camp. When we don't come back, they'll send a scout, listen about town, and when they found out you guys took out their raiding group, they'll come here not to raid you, but kill you, they'll burn this place down."

Bosk Deox (James) AC 14/10/10 HP 14 of 14

I have just a few more questions, these helmets, are they an illusion, or do they actually change your size and shape. Do they have any limitations? Also, how long will it be before the others come to our camp. Are they as strong as you, or are they stronger? Do they have any weakknesses.

Finally we are getting somewhere...I guess you won't have to kill all of them, weak one...

Reaching for the ring which has found a home anchoring around his neck, Xeron tries his best to maintain his focus and force the thoughts of his previous life out of his head. He licks his lips, grips his rapier a bit tighter and slowly walks out from his hiding place.

"Ariman, you lazy lout! How could you not hear the fight? How could you not hear this one bury her dagger into my chest!"

Xeron roughly slaps the flat of his blade on the speaking captive's shoulder from behind before leaning in close to her and whispering, "You are lucky that those two took charge of this situation."

Standing back up behind the captives, Xeron looks to Bosk and Sixtus on the other side of the captives, anger and pain still etched through his face and the struggle of his past stalking deep within his eyes.

I may be an ass, clown, but at least Im not lazy! Valla reply's to Ariman as the human walks away.

Good thing too, if you'd have been in anymore raids the whole band would have done been whiped out with your loud, flowing mouth.. hehe Valla thinks to himself as he listens to the girl. The wizard looks to Padre, motioning him a ways away from the prisoner. and whispers into his ear. I think it may be a good idea to send one or two of us to scout out the rest of her band. Only ten left could mean bad odds, and not in our favor. If she is just back up, id wager the rest of these lumpy's here are too. Or at least most of them. Valla sighs, looks to Xeron and Sanji, then whispers again One of them two maybe? We could use what ever info they bring back to set up an ambush for the band. Instead of meeting them on even ground. Valla keeps stays close to the cleric, awaiting a reply.

I don't think we should split up just yet, incase they attack right away. Bosk responds to Valla. And Maikill, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we would welcome your help in this matter. Bosk waits a minute to see if anyone argues this idea. Turning to the captive, the minotaur continues his questioning, How long does it usually take for them to come back? Can we expect them in the next few hours, or will it take a day or so for them to investigate. Also, are there any size or other limitations to what the helmets can disguise us as?

After the captive responds Bosk speaks to the group in a low voice, so that te captives cannot hear. "It may be a good idea to use the helmets to disguise our group as the goblins that attacked us, and pretend to be bound. We may get the element of suprise that way....I may have to pretend to be a few men tied together...or a tree. If we have time, then we can discuss sending out scouts. Since I have already used two spells, it may also be a good idea to have someone buy a healing wand or potion if we have time."

Sixtus listens as Valla and Bosk both talk about their ideas. He nods in agreement with parts of both of their plans and considers few things before speaking up.

"The best bet, in my opinion, is to use the helmets and make it look like we are coming back from the raid that these guys were sent out on. Then we gain the element of surprise. We could probably take out a few of them before they have a chance to react. I will not end my visit to Hook City short just because of the IronBand. If it must come to an 'Us-or-Them' situation, Gargul knows I will do everything within my ability to make sure it is US.

Turning back to address Katrin, Sixtus rests the end of his axe on top of his boot before squatting down in front of the human wizardess. Slowly he brings his eyes up to level with hers, the green fire still burning within them.

"Katrin. Your life may be spared but that rests solely on how much more you are willing to cooperate with us. Do you have a secret handshake or password or salute or anything that you use to recognize each other when you return to base camp? And speaking of base camp, where is the Iron Band's?"

Bosk wispers to Padre, "Let's not get too ahead of our selves. We have made a commitment to Penn. We cannot go after these guys and leave him and his merchandise at risk, and we will not be able to take on all ten of them with out our entire party present. Also keep in mind that I have used some of my blessing tonight and we do not know if Ariman can be counted on. I trust Maikill, but also believe we shouldn't act too hastely or trust him too much too soon."

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6
Sunday August 30th, 2009 11:36:28 PM

Valla listens to Bosk's counter-argument, taking no offense of course, Bosk, He speaks low to the minotaur If the band is coming, our scouts would intercept them before ever making it to their camp. I don't propose we meet them on their turf, padre, like Bosk said, it would leave this camp open for anyone or anything else to rummage through. Valla thinks briefly on the subject. Frustration tears through his mind, and by the look on his face, its obvious. I don't believe acting as captives would help us much. But Disguising ourselves as children, simply playing on the other side of the fence... That might be worth doing. Acting as captives would mean we'd need to unarm ourselves. Putting our weapons close by still presents a threat. Although 'playing children' wouldn't likly carry around weapons ethier, I think it would be less obvious than armed captives.

After his semi-thought out plan is shared, he waits on Katrin's reply. Wondering if the helmets disguise only the person, or his items on person as well... Katrin, do the helmets only work on living beings? Would it be possible to change my items and cloths to something different?

She begins weeping a little and more so when Padre speaks to her about sparing her life, "The camp is at the northern most point from the wall, it's easily identifiable, they had a sign above their corral. As for the hats, I don't know that much about them, other than what I was told to do to activate them." After an uneasy pause, Katrin asks, "Are you going to kill me?"

Sanji listens intently to the answers the newly awakened captive offers up. Seeing Bosk, Valla and Padre having a quiet discussion begins to wear on Sanji's pacience. Turning to Maikill she offers her own opinion. I for one don't want to wait around here for this group to hunt us down. I would like to know for sure what were up against. If that means sending a couple of us out to check them out, then that's fine with me. But, I also realize we have an agreement with Mr. Penn. I wonder what he's going to think the first time he lays eyes on you. Sanji offers Maikill a playful smile to let him know she's just playing around. I wonder if we could make the case that you would be a better chioce of an employee than one one who SLEPT THROUGH A BATTLE!!! Sanji turns toward Ariman's tent with the last comment, directing all her anger in that direction.

she seems pretty worked up about someone sleeping when they shouldn't

"No worry, never sleep in battle. You small and nice, I protect you. No worry, I big."

then the prisoner cries out that she only came to rob not kill, Maikill frowns as he replies:

"That is not what you did though! You buried a dagger, to the handle, in...my...chest!"

Xeron's face grows into a mask of frustration and anger and shock. Words escape his lips as he guffaws and viciously points his rapier tip at Katrin.

Sixtus chews the inside of his lip as several plans are laid out, negated, and rehashed with new alternatives. He nods as Bosk points out the obvious fact that the group is obligated to protect Penn's caravan for the week; his head shakes slightly as he reprimands himself for getting carried away with his fiery eyes of battle.

"You are right, we cannot leave just yet. Okay, no more wasting of the blessing of Gargul on these people. We will tend their wounds, feed them and wait for them to regain consciousness on their own. They should be awake by morning. If the search party comes to rescue them, we will need a plan...something that will confuse them and hopefully allow the advantage as they will have superior numbers."

The cleric rehouses his waraxe in the holster strapped to his back and begins absentmindedly running the tips of his fingers across the rivets and studs of metal embedded on his supple, mahogany leather armor.

Valla looks at Katrin, Rob, maybe. They'd had to of killed us to rob Mr. Penn. As long as Im part of his guard anyways No, we won't kill you. your defenseless, cooperative and not threating anyone. No reason to kill you, for now The elf grins, for effect. Then turns to the rest of the group, motioning for Xeron and Sanji.

I think one of you two need to see what this band is up to. Standing around here talking isn't getting anything accomplished. The day is starting and Im sure the band is wondering about there raiding group here. If there not already on their way, they will be soon. Valla looks to Padre, half expecting the cleric to debate his plan.

I think the rest of us need to hide these bodies, quickly. Gag the girl and hide or use to helmets to turn into lumpy's. Wait for our scout, which should arrive before the band. Then deal with them accordingly. That way we will be here to watch the camp, but know what is going on with the band as well. Letting them come without knowledge of it could be fatal. We need to be as ready for them as possible.

Valla then sheaths his weapon and picks up one of the helmets, Well?

Bosk places the helmet on his head and says the magic words, testing the helmets limitations to see how much it can make him appear to increase and decrease his size. If he can disguise his clothing an weapon alon with his body, and if the helmet itself can be disguised.

If possible I would like to take 20 to take the time to disguise myself and my weapon as a captive or captives.

Inactive characters and guarding - DM Jim
Tuesday September 1st, 2009 10:55:59 AM

ooc: Currently we have three inactive characters: Ariman, Naru & Lenwe (all have real life issues and have been unable to post). These three can remain in the group and given the lesser job of guard duty while you guys go out and adventure (complete the module) and it won't affect the group treasure or xp, but they won't help you either when needed in combat and other things, other than roleplaying (kinda like Ariman sleeping through the battle). If that sounds fine, let me know, otherwise if you guys really want it, they can be removed from the game completely.

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6
Tuesday September 1st, 2009 1:24:17 PM

DM Jim- Im a bit confused. If we were to leave those 3 here to guard Penn, and someone/something showed up to loot the camp, would they 'fight' or would we be out of luck? You said they could be used to guard duty for us to complete the module, but from what I got from the game so far, our mission is to guard this caravan... Clarification?

DM JIM -- They would protect themselves and the caravan if needed. Guarding the caravan is what you're supposed to do, but that could mean different things... wait and get firebombed? Pre-emptive attack? Scouting, etc... Of course you could just ask Penn.

Xeron AC AC15 HP 7/7
Tuesday September 1st, 2009 1:52:42 PM

Xeron lowers himself to face Katrin. He switches his weight from one leg to the next and suddenly pulls out his dagger. His face is tense and focused and to the surprise of the group, is able to look at the woman in the eye without blushing or looking embarrassed. May be it is because he does not see her as an object of affection but more like something to be disposed off.

"You asked for your life, claiming you only wanted to rob us. However, you dig your dagger deep inside me, probably aiming for the heart. Why shouldn't I return to you the favor? Except I can guarantee you I will find your heart. "

He pauses waiting for her to absorb what he just said.

"You are an arcanist, aren't you. May be I could cut your tongue and your precious little fingers. That would ensure that you never attack someone EVER gain."

He puts the point of his dagger against her face and pushes gently enough to make her feel the pressure but not enough to draw blood. He looks at her waiting for tears to reappear.

"Or, and this would be a very lucrative deal for me, I could sell a pretty thing like you to some of the less reputable brothels in Mudtown. Of course, all of us would have to try the merchandise to make sure that we are not selling at a bad price."

An evil smile covers his face as he contemplate the thought.

"OR, and this is my least favorite option, is that you tell us a few things. For example, why did you join the group? How did you get in touch with them? Who re their contact? Why would they send a useless rookie like you for such a job? Also, having the identity of every one in your group would help your cause a great deal. Basically, everything you can think of might be useful to us, tell us."

He stops talking and the dagger disappear.

"And Katrin, the folks around me are good folks, who did not grew up here. I was born and raised in this mud and its sewers. I would act on my threat without even thinking about it twice. So if you think, I am joking, think again. "

He gets up and stabs the inconscious female half-orc in a way to draw blood but to do little damages. "Now speak to me or your next home will be the worst whorehouse in Mudtown"

He looks at the rest of the group, his back to Katrin and winks at them. He goes to Sixtus and whispers "Act scared like you believe I would act on my threat. Ask me to kill her rather than selling her as a prostitute "

this is getting out of hand... That halfbreed might attack Xeron... We need to take care of this situation quickly... Valla thinks to himself, watching Xeron's display of wickedness... wondering how in the world a wife forced the young rogue to turn over a new leaf in life.

Valla eyes Katrin, nodding his head, You should answer the rogues questions miss... It would be nice information to have. Then the elf turns to the rest of the group, About those scouts?

Sanji lets a smile cross her face as she listens to Xeron's threats. This must be the "threatening their life" part that they were talking about. I almost believe him. Can't say I'd blame him even if he was serious. As the half-orc begins to protest, Sanji takes a step closer to him and makes sure all her weapons are securely in their sheathes. She motions for Maikill to come a little farther aside to be out of ear shot and begins to whisper to him. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure he's only acting. He's only pretending to be scary. He's really kinda nice. We just want to get as much information out of her as possible. Bosk and Padre wouldn't let us kill her even if we wanted to because they're tied up and not a threat. Sanji waits for some sign of understanding from Maikill then adds, Only pretend angry. We no kill. Only scare.*

Not sure if he will understand her or not, Sanji takes a chance and places a grubby hand on his wrist in a comforting fashion. Heaving a deep sigh, she return her attention to the rest of the group and hopes that Padre and Bosk will notice her wink of reassurance as the captive's attention is on Xeron.

He does his best to contain his smile and winks at Padre when Katrin insults him " mud scum . The memories come back. The name calling, the abuse. The men forcing him to watch as they take advantage of his mother and the poor woman does not understand why they are hurting her that way. His face dragged in the mud. The older boys forcing him to eat mud and worse.

He sees the woman who gave him her ring saying "stop .. stop " but he brushes away the vision.

The dagger reappears and he starts walking toward Katrin. The look on his face is obvious. He is going for the kill.

Sixtus strides up to the rogue who is approaching the female caster. He reaches out and puts a hand on the black-haired conniver's shoulder.

"Hold Xeron! Seriously! You can't just cut her throat now. She could be use as a bargaining chip or ransom. I do not think that selling her as a bed-warmer would be the wisest idea either...she has too many tricks up her sleeve."

Sixtus tries to spin the rogue around and already has a faint smirk molded to the corner of his mouth. He suppresses a chuckle and shakes his head slightly as the blue eyes of Xeron meets his. Turning to address the rest of the group and paying little attention to the mage who si tied up;

"I agree, we need to do something. We either ask Venbolio for permission to leave or we just do it. Sitting here and waiting gives us little advantage and that is exactly what we are going to need with the numbers on their side."

The wizard turns to the rest of the group and speaks loudly, I'll go talk to Penn. We need to do something Standing is useless. Maybe we could Leave Lenwe, Naru and Ahriman guarding the camp, and meet the band. With a sigh Valla begins again, Or send out scouts.... And amubush the band here. Xeron's dagger is going for the throat of Karin when Sixtus stops him. The rogue starts resisting but slowly breathes slower and calm down. He blinks his eyes a few times and grabs the ring around his neck, holding it very, very tight.

"I'm ok, I'm ok."

He takes a few deep breaths and points to Katrin "Your life is mine and you are as good as dead as far as I am concerned. You better hope that Padre is around to keep you alive. You are a thief and a criminal and I will show Mud Town who you are. "

He goes next to the girl and cuts a lot of strand of her hair, completely ruining her look. "This is just the beginning. You better hope your coward friends find a way to my heart. "

He looks towards the group. "I think before we decide to do anything we need some reconaissance. We need to get a sense of who we are fighting before we decide where we are figthing them."

He turns toward Sixtus "Padre, I am asking you to reconsider saving these people. As they have shown, they will come back to kill us. These are not prisoners of war, these are criminals with evil intentions. Please let me finish them. I promise they will not suffer, not even the girl. They are 10 of them and these 3 makes 13. There are 7 of us, Ariman being too buzy working on his make up. We need to adjust the odds. Say the words padre and they will be down to 10. "

The rogue waits, willing to give back the lives that the cleric owes him.

OOC: Thanks Drew. Think of Xeron has being a lot like Wolverine of X-men fame. He will protect the group but will kill if necessary. He does not mind doing the dirty work. Xeron is just way darker given his background.
OOC2: Regarding strategy, I think we should get a sense of who we are facing before we attack. I am also concerned about leaving Peen unattended.
OOC3: Regarding the prisoners, I know we are good guys but this is not governed by the Geneva convention. This is medieval time violence where the Church used to burn people on the stake because of rumors of witchcraft. I am not sure that 21st century enlightment makes much sense.

Wednesday September 2nd, 2009 5:23:46 PM

Watching the situation escalate before her eyes, Sanji can feel that things are becoming out of control. I'm going with you to talk to Mr. Penn about all this to see if he has any advice for us. Let's do that now. If he wants us to stay with the caravan, then that's the end of it. We will have to stay and wait for the inevitable attack from their companions. At least at this point we know that it will be coming and can be ready for it. If Mr. Penn approves of a more proactive response, then I agree with Valla and Xeron. We need to know what we're up against and should at least send out some scouts. I will volunteer for that duty.

Before moving toward Mr. Penn's tent, Sanji steps between Xeron and Maikill. Facing Xeron, she raises an eyebrow. You'd certainly be within your rights to kill her. I've always felt that if somebody tries to kill... well.. you try and kill them right back. Sanji stumbles over the words as she tries to decide if she believes it herself. The point is you should be directing your anger at that wretch on the ground. Not at Mailkill. I'm not saying I totally trust him because I've just met him. But, he's only shown aggression toward our enemies, or when he thinks we are doing something dishonourable. I say leave him be, at least for the time being. And you, She turns to face Maikill. There's no need for a fight just yet. Save your anger for when you need it.

Unsure if she has made any difference in the current situation, Sanji walks toward Mr. Penn's tent. Let's get this over with Valla. I hope he's nicer than I am in the morning. As she passes Padre she whispers in his ear, Perhaps we should send our new "friend" with someone else to dump the bodies we already have. That way, if things get out of hand and we have to dispatch the captives he won't be around. Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. Just as she turns away, a thought seems to return to the surface of her consciousness. She turns back to Padre with a dire look on her face. I do think Xeron's is right, though. It would be best to get rid of them.[b]

With that she leaves the cleric in her wake and motions for Valla to come with her to Mr. Penn's tent. She pulls back to tent flap slightly and peers inside. [b]Excuse me Mr. Penn. I'm sorry to wake you but we have a bit of a situation and need to run a couple of things by you.

Frustration begins to mount as the group begins to become divided again; the inside of his lip must be raw and bloody from the continuous chewing. His boiling point is apparently being reached, judging by the look of restlessness and irritation in his eyes. In his usual quirky manner, Sixtus ruffles his hood back and forth several times before casting it back and off of his tuff of disheveled hair with force. he takes a moment to look skyward and allow the rain to cool his face.

"Fine. We need a definitive plan and everyone, including myself, just keeps dancing around it. Valla and Sanji, when you are done with Penn, go and start your scouting. Xeron, you are to go with them too. If any of you can EASILY take one or two of them out if they are on their way then that is what you are to do. IF you see anyone with the IronBand emblem on them and they are alone, you take them out. Bosk, Maikill, Lenwe and myself will stay here and watch Ariman pout and Naru play with her hair. There will be more bodies to be disposed of, so there is no need to split us up more until this is finished."

Sixtus intentionally looks each of the other mercenaries in the eye, ensuring that they understand his intentions of these plans seeing fruition. They are not inquisitive or open for debate anymore, they are pale green orbs of definitiveness.

But I am warning you, if any of these three, " pointing to the 3 prisoners, "come back to attack us, I will finish anyone who attacks us. And if they end up killing any of us, you will have lost any moral authority you think you have. And don't blame it on your silly god saying it was their time to go."

Visibly upset by the decision to leave potential deadly ennemies alive, he walks toward Sanji and Valla " All right, let's go see if we can get some information to allow us to spend another day alive in the crappy place "

He will follow the rogue and the wizard out of the camp.

The horned cleric stares at the scene around him in complete amazement, unable to understand how quickly the situation got out of control. Xeron threatening the captive Katrin, Maikill threatening Xeron, and everyone taking the lead in a different direction. This is not the image he wants their captives to be seeing, especially if they are to let them live to tell the story.

Hearing Sixtus speak he makes up his mind, it is as good a plan as any at this point.
Sixtus is right, the more stealthy of us should disguise ourselves with the helmets and head out and to look for advance scouts and see if they can learn anything in town. The rest of us will guard the camp. When you return say I am (your name), a friend of Penn. That way we will know who you are. With the enemy able to change shape, we cannot be too careful.

Bosk then speaks to everyone individually and quiet enough that no one else can hear, and informs them to scratch their left ear when they say this. That will be the real test. The password is just to throw others off, and incase someone else is already listening or incase Katrin finds a way to inform someone.

The scouting mission - DM Jim
Thursday September 3rd, 2009 12:20:11 PM

As the scouting group leaves, they find a curious set of boot prints leading away from Penn's encampment, heading north, the same direction the halfling who was slicing and dicing Bosk, was heading in. Following them, since they lead in the same direction, The nail-studded boot prints will lead the party to the northern end of Mudtown--a more dangerous section, as this end is the furthest away from the city walls (and, thus, the prying eyes of the city guard). This part of Mudtown is dotted with encampments--there aren't even any semi-permanent lean-tos, shanties or yurts here...it's all tents or simply bedrolls around various campfires. At this time of the morning, there isn't much stirring.

The encampment that the trail leads to is surrounded by trees that ring a natural bowl-like depression that is some three hundred feet or so in diameter. The ground gets progressively softer the farther into the "bowl" one goes. However, some 50ft away near the main road into Mudtown is a large tent with a small wooden pen attached to it that holds aloft a brightly colored sign that proudly states:

IRONBAND GUARD CO.

Don't Mess with the Rest

The tent in question looks to be the Ironbands storefront, it's flap is currently closed and a small sign hangs on it stating they will open at 7am, which is an hour from now. Their main encampment must be through the tree's, but at this distance, it is unknown.

The towering minotaur looks down at the diminutive captive. "All in due time. We are not about to lower the number of people guarding this camp any further then they currently are, you never know when a band of goblins may attack." Bosk draws out the word goblins in a joking manner. I must apologize for our party on the behalf of Xeron, he tends to be a kill first and ask questions later kind of guy. However, he would not do you serious harm and risk the Padre and I coming after him. I am sure your band would do the same or worse to us if the tables were turned. Also to be honest, we don't know what to do with you. If we caught you lying, we would kill you and the matter would be over. We don't fully trust the guards, we have no way of knowing if it is one of your friends in disguise. We also do not want to let you go, only to have you attack us again tonight. Our current plan is to let you go after our job is complete and we are paid. If you have a suggestion or way to prove your trust, we will listen. However, you are our prisoner and tried to kill us, so don't assume we will believe you or trust you.

ooc: Do we know what the guards response would be? Will they punish the criminals if we do the dirty work of catching them, or would we be taking our chances?

Sixtus listens to Bosk's words with intent as the questions continue to swirl like a waterspout through the slosh of his head. So many things have happened in the past day that he is having entirely too many mixed emotions about entirely too many situations.

Squatting back down in from af Katrin, Sixtus grabs her chin and lifts her head high enough to be eye-to-eye. "Are you so sure that you are safe enough to make demands? Do not mistake our tolerance and willingness to talk first as weakness. Do I need to show you that we are indeed deadly serious? If so, say the word. I will show you blood and death and force you to hear the sound of a soul leaving the body."

Standing up, the cleric turns to face the half-orc stranger, his face as solid as a mountain.
"Maikill. You stay here. Your mother's killer will be here soon enough and you will be able to avenger her then. One wrong move before that and you will have to deal with me. Your mother's killer may in fact be coming here for a fight and you will give him that fight."

Following the trail was easy given the muddy ground. It will not remain so for long when mudtown begins to creep to life. Sanji is a little surprised that the person they were following left such a clear trail. They were either really scared, stupit, or just didn't care. The sceen seems rather inviting as the trio approach the Iron Band's camp. The welcoming sign on top of the tent is making boasts that seem almost too good to be true.

Listening to Xeron voice his opinion as they reach camp brings Sanji's thoughts back to the surface. The clerics might not seem the brightest, but they do seem to be good at heart. I do agree, though, that their goodness might well come back to bite them in the end. And I think Maikill is still a mystery. He seems to have some wierd sence of honor. Maybe I need to try learning a little more broken common.

I'm going to make a circle of the camp while you are going toward the tent. Keep your eyes and ears open. If something goes wrong, shout or something and I'll come running. If you're ambushed, high-tail it back to our camp. We'll be no match for all of them. I'll meet back up with you 50 feet up the trail from this encampment.

Sanji makes her way to the trees trying to circle the trying to do her best deer impression as she adopts a stealthy forward motion. She will make a complete circle of the depression trying to gain an accurate count of the iron band's members and try to see if she can notice how well supplied they are.*, **, ***,****

Maikill
Thursday September 3rd, 2009 7:29:14 PM

Maikill nods in agreement to the Padre's words:

"I sit, wait. Wait years, wait hours easy."

Maikill then finds a sturdy crate and sits upon it. He digs through his filthy and torn pack and finds a dirty and moldy looking piece of jerky. Without even attempting to wipe off the mold, he tears off a large chunk with his yellow canine teeth. He hungrily devours the smelly dried meat.
