DM Robert - nothing but gems and coins really
Wednesday October 21st, 2009 5:17:15 AM

Edmund has, perhaps, finally found the perfect way to go 'adventuring.'

==========================================

Thar heads up the rope, and Ruby is rather impressed by the view of the athletics demonstration. Julian eventually thinks to fly up, at Wynum's suggestion, and so he scoots past Thar on his rope. The halflings flies in and straight back out saying, "Small chamber, lots of web, nothing to see." No enemy to score more points with.
Wynum, on the other hand, has a better look. He reports that it is basically a small chamber, roughly 30' x 10' and 15' high. He notices that there are four bundles of clothing in the chamber, and nothing else but webs.
Thar can see a few glimmerings of light among the clothing, and so climbs all the way to investigate. Quickly rummaging through the beerbug's clothing he finds a good pile of gems and coins (totalling 1 042 gp). He is sticky round the feet, shins and hands from moving through this chamber.

This takes up another 4 rounds in total.

==========================================

Revi? She keeps an eye on the room beyond the webs. The rope gently sways. The bell that isn't there continues to tinkle. Tapestries and carpets remain unlooted on the walls and floor.

Arm and Ruby? They keep Revi company in the main corridor. No one is seen to sneak up on them from behind.

Revi and Arm and Ruby can take a four rounds of actions if they wish. Wynum and Julian can take two.

Spot and Listen checks again please.

End of round 7.

Ruby blushes slightly as Thar catches her watching him and then gives him a little wave. As the others tear into the webbing, she turns her attention to that instead with a sigh. She cannot help much with the search up above but she can be of help here.

Though the pounding of blood in her ears does not make it easy to listen for anything, she finds that her eyes are still working fine. Still she realizes that she needs to clear her mind and then deal with the rest later. If the room appears safe than she will spend time helping the others search it, looking for more tracks or signs.

DM Robert - cratessss and bottlessss and tapesssstriessss and rope
Thursday October 22nd, 2009 12:51:00 AM

Thar searches the chamber up the tunnel. He finds nothing beyond the gems and coins in the clothing. Wynum, using his Hand of Glory, also finds nothing.

Arm and Revi hack out an opening through to the room beyond. As they enter a large fanged mouth appears on the wall on the right of the bed. It is nearly 4' wide, and it speaks Common - actually it is yelling in rage "I'll get you for thissss. I'll find out who you nobodyssss are and track you down and hack you up. No, I'll ssssslowly poissssson y..." The mouth then quickly fades and vanishes. [Knowledge arcane DC 10 to Highlight to display spoiler: { That was Magic Mouth.}
It seems the Mithril Order have left quite an impression, but not a calling card.

The large room is the opulent (if bare) bedroom of Mettik and Chloe. They have constructed a perfect hammock-bed for two spumandirs. However, they have left in a hurry.

Crates have been thrown open. Bottles hastily grabbed from the dressing table. One tapestry has been partially removed, and now hangs limply from the top left corner. Though the rest of the floor is quite clean (it has been worked smooth and level) there is a trail of dusty footprints to the white rope that hangs from the ceiling next to the bed.

Looking closer at the rope, it indicates a 5' round hole in the ceiling. There is thick webbing around the edge of this tunnel, similar to the remnants left after Julian hacked his way into the room with the captives in cocoons. It appears that this tunnel has been sealed in a similar way, and that seal has been hastily discarded.

End of round 8.

He reports that he hasn't found anything else, but is curious why one of the tapestries was removed. "Anyone want to venture an idea why it was removed? Could there have been something else behind it?"

He looks at the hole in the ceiling and says, "Do any of you fliers want to check out the hole or do I need to climb it and check it out again?"

OOC: Question...since I hacked at the webs to get into this room, does that constitute an attack and would therefore make me visible again? Also, regarding the hole in the ceiling...is THAT the tunnel that had the seal around it?

When Julian goes up the chimney, he hurriedly shouts instructions:
"Come back right after you scout, or tell us what you see. If you don't come back fast, we'll come after you!"

Then, lower, while considering the small size of the opening.

Her gloves hands slowly straightening it back out as she waits for the sudden explosion that might result from her tampering. She does glance to the hole that Julian just went up but then turns her attention back to the tapestry.

"Should we search this room a little further to make sure that we did not miss anything?" Still she glances around at the mess wondering if they might have found what they were looking for or if it was taken.

DM Robert - Fresh OJ in the early morning.
Friday October 23rd, 2009 12:56:34 AM

Thar and Arm find the Magic Mouth amusing, though I doubt that was the intent.

At Thar's suggestion Julian carefully ascends the tunnel above the bed. Whilst it starts out as a roughly 5' round hole it quickly changes to a narrow 7' tall and 3' wide. It ascends at roughly 40 degrees above the horizontal. It is a natural fissure in the rock, and after 50' Julian finds himself suddenly outside. It takes him by surprise as the moonlight suddenly seems to be very bright relative to the darkness of the fissure. He takes a look around and calls back down, "I've found outside, I'll be back in a second or two. Just gonna fix this rope."
Returning to the party he details the fissure and says, "The rope was tied to a tree, and with the rope it will be easy to climb up. They cut it once they climbed out, but it snagged on some rocky bits near the top. I've tied it to the tree again. Should be good to go.
"There's been a fight up there too. There are three dead horses right near the tunnel's exit - bits of webbing on them so I guess it was our friends."

Ruby suggests searching the bedroom more thorough, in case something important was left behind.

Search checks if searching.

, Squeezing says nothing about Skill checks - the issue is getting in and moving through a Tight Space. To squeeze through or into a space less than half your space's width, you must use the Escape Artist skill. For a Large creature it would take an Escape Artist check DC 30 - three times: once to get in, second time where it changes to being tall but narrow, third time to get out. You can make another check after a failed check if you're squeezing your way through a tight space, making multiple checks. If the situation permits, you can make additional checks, or even take 20, as long as you're not being actively opposed.

DM Robert - Scents and Ascents
Friday October 23rd, 2009 10:42:27 PM

OOC - I forgot to include the tapestries in the previous post...
There are 8 tapestries around the room. Most are around a 12' square, there's three that are at least 15' tall and 20' long. The smallest is 8' by 10'. The one that is partially removed is 12' square.
The pictures are like a family photo album, and the detail is incredibly fine and photo-like. In the foreground stand one or two or three people (either elves or spumandirs) posing together in front of a landscape or landmark, in the largest 'photo' stands a large mixed group of around two dozen people in a room. There are two particular elves, a man and woman, partners it would seem, at least one of which appears in every tapestry.
The landscape seems rather abstract or surreal - forests the likes of which you've never seen before (massive trees with flowers along the trunk), a meadow of very pale green grass with a brilliant blue (almost purple) river, a waterfall where it seems the water is flowing up, a city of green marble, a village on a cliff's edge with an amazing view of an endless valley of tree clumps and meadows, an impossibly long bridge over water that disappears into the perspective distance, and a statue of an elf that stands at least 200' on a hill in the distance.
Spot DC 18 whilst you were looking at the 'photos' in the bedroom to Highlight to display spoiler: { These elves have fangs, and extra long fingers with another set of joints on each finger. These are actually spumandirs in humanoid form.}

Thar and Ruby search through the room quickly before climbing up. He finds nothing of significant value. Some of the small glass vials remaining on the dresser might be worth a copper or two, though the perfume contained within might reduce the value somewhat. Before Thar dismisses them completely Ruby finds one that she likes the scent of, and tucks it into her pack. The crates contain some clothing here and there, both male and female, well made items, a real mixture of fashions, all of it new.

*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*

The narrow tunnel through the rock ceiling reveals itself as a fissure in the ground where part of the earth has at some point in aeons past suddenly jutted upwards . It opens at the base of rock cliff face only 15' high, and there are pieces of webbing lingering that once sealed this end against the weather. Other than this the area immediately around is relatively flat. It is a wooded area, a mixture of trees and light undergrowth quite similar to those you passed through on the road. There are, as Julian related, three dead white horses on the ground only 40' north of the opening. There is blood and webbing on the bodies.
Thar, Ruby and Arm gasp as they look more carefully at the horses - Highlight to display spoiler: {These are unicorns, you can just make out the horn in the moonlight along the ground.}

DM Robert - Highway to Hell
Tuesday October 27th, 2009 12:14:48 AM

Edmund sleeps in the comfort of his bed in the Mithril Manor. He dreams of horses in an arcane battle in a forest.
Wynum flies off in the wrong direction. He gathers up some of his gear from the Barracks, and goes looking for the long way round to meet up with the party. He has an interesting view of the forests as he ascends up and over the cliff face that was once such an obstacle to the Mithril Order. He is able to spot the Lights that the party has, and descends gracefully as the party are ready to move on.
Thar recognises the 'elves' in the tapestries as spumandirs in human form. Arm recalls that a spumandir is technically labelled as an Aranea. It's natural form is that of a monstrous spider. It can assume two other forms. The first is a unique humanoid; an aranea in its humanoid form always assumes the same appearance and traits, much as a lycanthrope would. The second is a spider-humanoid hybrid. In hybrid form, an aranea looks like a Medium humanoid at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals the creature's fangs and spinnerets.

Up and outside in the cool air of the morning the Mithril Order find 3 dead unicorns. They have been webbed and clubbed to death. Ruby has a look around the area and is able to find 3 sets of tracks.
Firstly, the unicorns appear to have meandered along to this area from the West. There were 6 of them who entered this area.
Secondly, two Huge spiders headed North-West.
Third, around a dozen mixed humanoids headed South along with 3 unicorns. One of the unicorns is bleeding, perhaps two, as there is a lot of blood that has fallen on the tracks. The blood seems to be up to 12 hours old.

It is around 3am. The moon is waning gibbous, and around half full.

Well, I'm not into this kind of fare, but at least you won't have any trouble with rations, while we wait for Edm... What?... What?"

I am sure that they were responsible for the deaths of these unicorns and I would love to pay them back for that." Glancing towards the trail that was taken by the mixed humanoid and three remaining unicorns she shakes her head. "I want to rescue the other three before they are killed or the bleeding one dies. I will not leave them to that fate."

Her choice made she moves to stand near the trail that was taken by the mixed humanoids and three unicorns. She bends her eyes to the path to see if there are any other clues, even following it a good thirty feet. Mostly she is trying to see if the unicorns are being herded, which would make them captive.

DM Robert - Webs or Horns?
Tuesday October 27th, 2009 10:31:27 PM

Edmund dreams of an ancient monument of stones.

The forest is relatively open here. You can see the stars and the moon above, and whilst you might see a flying creature you could find cover enough to hide from it if that were necessitated.
Revi suggests that the Huge spiders be hunted down and exterminated, and Arm agrees. Julian counters that the unicorns should be rescued first. The centaur is bewildered that a horse might have a single horn from its forehead. Revi then suggests that the unicorns rescued the humanoids, that perhaps they were prisoners.

Thar and Ruby set about their work and have a good look along the 2 exiting trials. The south trail shows that the unicorns are being pulled along against their will. It is clear to the trackers that 2 of them are pulling against their captors and trying to move against the direction of the humanoids. The third unicorn is compliant, though partially lamed and bleeding.
Following for only 50' the two Huge spiders who have headed North-West, Thar surmises that they are following the moonlight. They are scampering along at quite a pace.

Edmund dreams of blood and stones and circles.

Revi runs off like a cat after the pigeons. Thar and Ruby then scout out either side of the trail as the rest of the group advance. Julian makes an effort to catch up to Revi, and Wynum takes to the skies lighting the way for the Mithril Order. Arm follows the group ensuring that they are not surprised from behind.

After a time Revi slows down in her pacing (Haste wears off) and Julian floats past her with a mocking grin. "So you gonna slow down and wait for everyone now?" Wynum descends safely to land with the party (as per spell description) precisely six seconds before Julian must again use his bare, hairy feet to support his weight.

Bravely the Mithril Order continue to pursue their quarry. The six of them follow the footprints and the trail of blood through the cool and damp night air. Ruby notes that the blood is lessening as they progress.

Another hour or so into their chase the blood trail terminates in the lifeless body of a unicorn. It has a web-rope tied around its neck.

He returns to the tracks and continues following them to wherever they lead... (Track = 23) After a few moments of checking, he passes on several bits of information: "There are two unicorns left, and their still moving southward. However, they don't seem to be fighting against their captors, and are probably tired now. They've stumbled a time or two. Creeping ahead of the party another 50' (with stealth) the two scouts (Thar and Ruby) can make out a clearing and a large structure through the trees. About 200' in front of them they see a circle of standing stones in a clearing in the forest. The circle is 100' across and the clearing is at least that much again. [So, in front of Thar and Ruby is 150' of forest, 50' of clearing and then the stones.]
Each standing stone is around 6' by 6' and 30' tall, and spaced around 9' apart. Between each stone is webbing 10 high which blocks the view of the inner circle, though it seems unnaturally dark within.
This circle of stones is topped by a line of horizontal stones to for a platform. Upon this platform you can see a pair of beerbugs on the closest (northern) edge, and another pair at the western and eastern edges as well. They are all facing outwards with longbows in hand, though their attention actually lies within the circle rather than outwards.

1) what's the terrain like where we are and around: Is there a flat stretch of ground long enough for us to sprint toward the circle? Also, any cover for firing?
2) What about the lighting? Is it the moonlight that allows us to see that far? Is it dim light then?
3) The time since Ed's departure seems to be about 70 minutes from your previous post, but Thar mentions 2 hours. Which is right? (That's important for the message and light spells)}

DM Robert - The Circle and the Stones
Saturday October 31st, 2009 5:33:02 AM

The circle of standing stones is centred within a large clearing in the forest at the peak of a hill. The Mithril Order is hidden in the forest back 200' from the clearing. There is 50' of clearing before the stones rise from the ground. You could attempt to remain hidden as you reach the edge of the clearing.

The moon is half full, the sun is ready to rise and there is sufficient light for everybody here.

Ruby and Thar relate this information and more. Up on top of these stones, over 30' above the ground, stand 4 pairs of beerbug longbowmen. They are facing outwards as sentries, though their attention is more focused upon the goings on inside the circle than out. Inside the circle is screened from view by sheets of webbing between the standing stones that reach 10' above the ground.

It has been 2 hours since the Mithril Order found the first three dead unicorns.

"I have Message, big fella. Just never had to use it with you lot - Eddy always beats me to it. Now, where's that piece of wire. Oh. I can only cast it on 5 of us. Now that sux."

Looking round at everyone Julian asks, "How many bows do we have? Can Revi and I charge in as the rest of you bow them down? Perhaps Revi and I should be using the bows. Wynum too? Who wants to take the fight to them as we rain arrows in? Can we win this fight with arrows mostly? If we all shoot down the guards then all rush the webbing and hack through. Burn through even, do we have flame. I can produce enough to start something else burning..."

Then, rummaging through his pack he offers, "I've scrolls here of Jump, and Exprecatious Retreat - 2 of that one, and, cool, 4 called True Strike. And here's Bear's Endurance. Sorry Wynum, no Bull's Strength for you."

"Arm, I could use this True Strike on you as you cast this one on Revi for the first two bow shots. That would take one out for sure. Then four of us can focus on the other guy - two of their archers down very quickly. We charge in then and find out what's going on in there."

"There's preparations I'd like to go through before we battle too, but perhaps I don't have time for much of that." OOC Referring to Julian's buffing through spell casting - 5 spells might be waiting too long.
"Thar, can you help Wynum - he still looks pale from the spider's bite." OOC he is down to Str 6, and might not be able to use his bow.

"What do you want me to do....join the archers or sneak into the area?" She has fairly decent sneaking skills but she is also a fairly decent shot, so she could be useful in either area. OOC sorry, busy day at work, will post soon.

DM Robert - The Plan
Tuesday November 3rd, 2009 12:05:03 AM

OOC Here's the plan as I see it. If it is not right let's correct.
1 - We will spend a couple of rounds here as some of us cast a few spells. Thar will cast Bull's Strength on Wynum, Delay Poison twice on two fighters. Julian will cast some buffing spells. Others?
2 - Then we Move Silently to the edge of the forest and Hide. This is only 50' from the circle. There is sufficient light for even humans to see clearly as the sun is rising into the morning sky.
3 - Julian casts True Strike on Arm, Arm casts True Strike on Revi. True Strike only lasts till the end of the next turn. We will have to risk being heard as we cast.
4 - We all shoot at the two nearest bugbears on the ledge. They die, we cheer.
5 - Thar casts Windwall to protect us from the other archers as we charge to the circle. It is a slight incline, but smooth and clear.
6 - We hack our way through the webbing to see what is going on the other side.

Thar - The Windwall will be 60' long and 5' high I believe. The circle is 100' across, so that gives it a circumference of 314'. Where do you think you'd like to target the spell.

Ruby - I think sneaking in is going to be very difficult across the 50' of clearing. It might work, the sentries are distracted. I thought you'd prefer to not take the risk, but tell me if I am wrong.

Here's the last chance for pre-combat actions. Tomorrow we sneak up to the edge of the forest.

If possible, I'd like to anchor it on ends of the plateau they're on, and at least 1/5 of it will be blocked and hopefully make it harder for them to shoot at us...)

(OOC = Yes, I'm good with the plan too everyone...

(OOC = Ignore the two die rolls, my laptop mouse is on the fritz and I'm using the touchpad...)

1. However, since Wynum won't need the spell himself (see his post), Thar will cast Bull's Strength on Revi instead (if she agrees with that), so she'll be even stronger. (If this causes a problem and won't work, then Thar will cast it on himself, but I think her sheet showed that it'll be OK)
2. Thar will then cast McVE on himself, giving him and others in the group a boost if w/in 10'...
3. Thar casts Delay poison on Revi and Julian, boosting them up too...
4. He'll cast bless on the group...

Overall Effects
1. Revi now has +4 enhancement on her strength (60/60 rds)
2. MCVE, all w/in 10' of Thar get a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves
(600/600 rds)
3. Delay Poison on Revi and Julian (6/6 hours)
4. Bless (all party members) - Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects. (60/60 rds)

Julian will also cast Enlarge Person on his familiar the badger, and Bear's Endurance. He shares all his spells with the badger most of the time.
Julian then climbs into the saddle on his (now medium sized) badger's back.

Thar casts some very useful spells upon Revi and Julian. Revi now has +4 enhancement on her strength (60/60 rds) MCVE, all within 10' of Thar get a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves. (600/600 rds) Delay Poison on Revi and Julian (6/6 hours). Bless (all party members) - Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects. (60/60 rds).
Julian also casts some buffing spells on himself, and he hands a scroll of True Strike to Arm. His now Enlarged badger has a saddle which the halfling climbs into.

The Mithril Order moves up towards the stone circle. Sneaking closer you can see through the trees the massive standing stones arranged as a circle within a clearing on the top of the hill. The stones are roughly 6' x 6' and 30' tall. There is a platform formed by more of these massive stones laid horizontally upon the others. [OOC Picture Stone Henge when it was complete.]

Between the standing stones is a layer of webbing that blocks your view of the goings on inside the circle, though you can tell that it is unnaturally dark within the circle. There are two beerbugs standing as sentries up on top of the platform. They are facing outwards with their longbows in hand, but they are clearly distracted by what is going on inside. As you creep closer to the last trees before the clearing you can see that there are four pairs of beerbugs evenly spaced around the circle.

Wynum moves only as far as he needs to see the first two beer bugs. He is 105' from the beebugs, and has a -2 penalty for shooting through the trees (my ruling).

Move Silently and Hide Checks please. I'll then roll Listen and Spot checks for the beerbugs and let you know who shoots first. Let me know how much you want to spread out along the edge of the clearing. The circle is 100' across and the clearing is 200' across, with 50' from the edge of the clearing and the circle.

The plan includes casting True Strike upon Arm and Revi, which involves the risk that the beerbugs may hear the casting in exchange for two guaranteed shots.

Wynum moves forward just enough to make out the beerbugs in the distance through the trees. He is 105' from the beebugs, and has a -2 penalty for shooting through the trees (my ruling).

The Mithril Order sneak into position, spread out a little along the edge of the clearing. The beerbugs both turn to look outward. Slowly they each nock an arrow as their eyes scan the area. After a short time one shrugs to the other and they continue to observe whatever is happening inside the circle.

Incoherent screams and sobbing from an individual can be heard coming from within the circle, as can an opposing maniacal laughter.

Arm casts True Strike on Revi as Julian casts the same spell upon Arm. One beerbug's head shoots round quickly. He looks left to right, right to left. He hits his partner to gain his attention and the two of them scan the area, slowly lifting their bows, searching for a target. The first one suddenly, and very deftly, draws the bows and shoots. The second beerbugs quickly follows suit in the same general direction. But the shots are well to the left of the Mithril Order. They stare at the forest edge that has consumed their two arrows and wait, but nothing moves there. They speak a few words to each other and resume their half-hearted sentry duty.

The beerbugs (AC 20) take some punishment, but remain standing (damage: left 10, right 17). They've been caught out by this attack, their 'false alarms' having lulled their senses for a moment.

Thar casts Windwall to protect the Mithril Order from the archers.
OOC Ken/Thar, can you describe how the Wind Wall is positioned please. I read that you have 60' of length of 30' of height to work with. I don't believe that it has be located upon the ground, it can be 'floating' in the air. The 60' of wall can join round if you wish or it can be one long length. It does not have to he a straight line.
I figured you would either enclose the beerbugs - 25' long by 5' wide by 30' tall , or it would shield the outside from their attacks - 60' long by 30' tall and following the curve of the circle. Entirely up to you.

OOC I am calling the previous round the surprise round, and all things considered, will run the battle with the PC's acting first in the round. You won the initiative with a good plan and some lucky rolls in the Moving Siliently and Hiding (not good rolls, lucky)

There is a horizontal row of stones that forms a 5' platform on the top of the standing stones. The beerbugs are on this horizontal row, which is 30' above the ground.
The webbing is 10' high between each row.

Since the beerbugs didn't fall as predicted perhaps Thar hasn't cast WindWall yet - as that would also prevent the Mithril Order sending arrows against them. Thar can restate his previous actions if he wants.

DM Robert - Clarification - Wind Wall
Friday November 6th, 2009 6:54:33 PM

An invisible vertical curtain of wind appears. It is 2 feet thick and of considerable strength. It is a roaring blast sufficient to blow away any bird smaller than an eagle, or tear papers and similar materials from unsuspecting hands. (A Reflex save allows a creature to maintain its grasp on an object.) Tiny and Small flying creatures cannot pass through the barrier. Loose materials and cloth garments fly upward when caught in a wind wall. Arrows and bolts are deflected upward and miss, while any other normal ranged weapon passing through the wall has a 30% miss chance. (A giant-thrown boulder, a siege engine projectile, and other massive ranged weapons are not affected.) Gases, most gaseous breath weapons, and creatures in gaseous form cannot pass through the wall (although it is no barrier to incorporeal creatures).

While the wall must be vertical, you can shape it in any continuous path along the ground that you like. It is possible to create cylindrical or square wind walls to enclose specific points.

The only guards are on the stones, 30' above the ground. There are 4 pairs of guards, one pair at each 'quarter' of the circle, standing up on top of the stones.

We've only attacked the nearest pair. They are down to 10 (L) and 17 (R) out of 27 hp. The other three pairs haven't noticed anything yet.

Does that help enough? I don't mind waiting till we all have a good sense of who is where.

Julian and Arm follow Revi in her charge at the Web. She draws her sword as she runs and hacks the sheet webbing down in a single blow. These two barbarians and bard now face a small host in the middle of a horrific scene.

The stone circle is filled with an unnatural Darkness. [Lighting is at best Dim -- you can see as normal though there is a 20% miss chance for anyone within the circle.]
Through the dim light stand two ettercaps and two spumandirs, watching as Mettik and Chloe inspect a large white skin laid out over the altar. The animal from which the skin was taken lies dead and (fortunately) mostly hidden from view behind the altar. A second unicorn lies on its side by the altar, sobbing loudly. Mettik and Chloe are the two 'elves' you recognise from the tapestries. Mettik's arms are dripping with red, and Chloe looks to be the happiest person in the Wold.

They stand there stunned as Revi, Julian and Arm suddenly appear where there should be webs, privacy and security.

Thar, Wynum and Ruby get to the business of shooting down the other beerbug sentries. Thar casts WindWall to protect them from return arrows, as best he can. Wynum and Ruby send three arrows into B8 and he doubles over in pain.

OOC: Thar email me if the placement of the Windwall is incorrect. I've tried to protect our archers from B3 - B6 whilst leaving Wynum, Thar and Ruby a clear shot at B8 & B7. I also placed it so that they cannot get around the wall without leaving the top of the standing stones.

(OOC = Robert, I would have probably moved the wall ~ 10-20 to the East... However, as long as our group can chop through the wall w/o being shot and Wynum/Ruby shoot at the bugbears, I think we'll be fine for now...)

Thar runs forward to ~ Y22 (or a nearby square if its occupied) and once he gets there, he casts "Spiritual Weapon" and once a shortsword appears at AJ17, he commands it to attack ET2...

Att = +7 + 6 = Hit AC32 (Crit Check = AC30, so yes...) for 11 pts of force damage (note that it attacks as a spell, so it can bypass damage reduction...)

Overall Effects
1. Revi now has +4 enhancement on her strength (56/60 rds)
2. MCVE, all w/in 10' of Thar get a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves
3. Delay Poison on Revi and Julian (6/6 hours)
4. Bless (all party members) - Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects. (56/60 rds)

Revi charges in at the nearest spumandir (in 'elf' form), cutting it clean in half before it can gasp in awe at her prowess with the blade. She is soaked with their blood as the two halves of the this foe lies twitching and spurting blood at her feet.
OOC -- sorry Jim, Charge is at the nearest square, and Cleave does not permit a 5' step to reach another foe -- you can't reach Et2.

Julian charges to the left, rage clouding his rational thoughts also. He hits the nearest Ettercap removing the head and left shoulder and arm from the rest of the body, where his sword usually bounces away bloodlessly from an unconscious foe.

Arm uses the Wand of OMG What Will Happen, releasing a Stinking Cloud that even a Troglodyte would be proud of.
OOC Revi needs to make a Fort Save DC 15 or be nauseated. www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/stinkingCloud.htm

Thar runs to the opening in the webbing and sends a Spiritual Weapon to attack the Ettercap next to Julian. It strikes the surprised creature solidly.
OOC Thar I've left the Wind Wall there because that is where I would've argued to leave as a player -- so that the beerbugs cannot get around it whilst on the circle.

Wynum canters North of the circle, a little further into the woods, releasing his well aimed (and magical) arrow at Beerbug 8.

Ruby creeps forward a little and sends Beerbug 8 toppling off the stones with an arrow, and hits his mate with a second.

******************
The unicorn sobbing on the ground is now retching and vomiting in the Stinking Cloud. Ettercap 2 flees for the wall of stones.

Spumandir 2 steps up to attack Revi with a bite, sinking its teeth into her upper arm.
Hit AC 25, nat 20, not a crit. Miss chance 34%, 4 points of damage and Fort Save DC 13, initial damage 1d6 Str, secondary damage 2d6 Str.

Seven's (Beerbug 7) training kicks in and he returns his own arrow at Ruby, though it lands beside her. Hit AC 19. He yells to his comrades who all fire at Ruby. Fortunately Thar's WindWall causes the arrows to veer upwards. The beerbugs has the beerbugs wondering why. They then begin to split up and scan the area for further targets.

Mettik yells in warning to Chloe, "The Gems! Now! Then to the wall." These two then retrieve a fist sized rock from their pockets and throw them, one each, towards Revi and Julian.
Chloe replies, "Not without my new cloak."
Each rock smashes as it hits the ground and a Large Earth Elemental rises up. They are twins, it would seem. Each is mottled dark brown and black with a grassy beard and chest and long curly locks of green grass.

Revi's new friend swings an enormous clay fist at her and she is smashed in the left arm. Hit AC 20, damage 17. Miss Chance 46%
Julian is not so quick to react either and is hit for 17 points of bludgeoning. Miss 45%

{Everyone remember that Thar's MCvsE will fend off elementals, preventing them from attacking when within the area. Also I think Revi should change her character class for Level 8 Badass.}

Wynum continues his circling and firing maneuver, (going to AN1, and firing mid-way when in the open at AK1), however the exertion is taking its toll on the weakened Centaur and he releases the arrow early, and it falls miserably on the ground. Fortunately, nobody can see his utter lack of efficiency as his comrade fight formidable foes.

Yelling at the Spumandir, Revi slices its head in half, and deftly swings her blade to cut a chunk of rock from the Elemental's abdomen, though not as much as she would have hoped.
Julian slices into the other Elemental and finds his falchion almost sticks.
Arm fires his Wander of Wondering and releases a glowing, pea-sized bead streaks from the wand and impacts upon the Elemental attacking Julian, covering everyone nearby in a flash of flames [Fireball: Ele2, Julian, Mettik, Chloe and Unicorn2 -- 21 damage or Reflex Save DC 15 for half =10]
Thar moves his Spiritual Sword and it carves a blow into Chloe.
Ruby creeps forward and send two arrows at Seven, the first one striking true.
Wynum trots further east, carefully placing an arrow on the ground so that he may find his way back to the others.

******************
The unicorn rolls away as the bead ignites against the Elemental, though it is still suffering from the effects of Arm's Stinking Cloud.
Ettercap 2 throws a webbed line to the top of the Standing Stones and climbs to the top (taking 10).

Elemental 2, singed from the attack sends both of its massive clay fists at Julian. The Halfling is very lucky to duck and weave around these blows [Hit AC 15 and 31 (nat 20, crit confirmed, miss chance 14%)].

Elemental 1 also attempts to punch and slam Revi into the ground, and like his twin brother is having troubles with the light in here (Hit AC 24, 32, miss chance 10%, 11%).

(Beerbug) Three spies Thar and Arm and moves to a position directly above them (providing partial cover). He manages one shot down at Arm, the arrow landing in the dirt between Thar and Arm. He calls to the other, "Easy pickings over here!" and some move in that direction.
Four, Six and Seven[b] make a double move towards Three. [b]Five also moves, but is slowed by squeezing past Ettercap 2.

Mettik avoids the worst of the fireball, though Chloe takes the full brunt of it.

Revi needs to make another save vs Arm's Stinking Cloud. Julian needs to save vs Fireball.

OOC -- now things can get really complex for me. Shawn is going to play the roles of Mettik and Chloe, since Edmund is napping. In the next DM post I will resolve Mettik and Chloe's actions first, then the Mithril Order. Okay?

Some distance from the circle, he springs up with great speed if not great strength, launches into an extraordinary jump, clearing the webbing between the standing stones. While still airborne and close to the stones, he snaps an arrow at the beerbug perched atop the pillar, precisely striking his bow hand, forcing him to drop it.

OOC - Hi Folks, things are strange at the moment. Co-DM Steven and Shawn both need a hiatus due to real life reasons. Neither of them could set a date for returning, though they both intend to return when they are able to.

and I am having computer problems which will be solved by the end of today, so the post will be up eventually. Now would be a great time to ask for questions regarding clarification. Florian asked via email what items and gear Mettik and Chloe are wearing, and I will answer that when I have my own computer back.

So, Mettik and Chloe first, then the PCs, then the enemy (including Mettik and Chloe since Shawn is unable to play the villains.
************************

Looking rather singed from the fireball, Chloe wears a fancy cloak, and has a wand tucked into her belt. She is wearing a fitted silk top and hard wearing trousers. There is a backpack over her cloak. She retrieves a potion from her pack, and quaffing it disappears from sight.

Mettik
has some bracers on his forearms, and a wand and a rod attached to his belt, and a backpack. He has a small dart pendant and a key on a leather thong round his neck. He gathers a small strongbox from the base of the altar, then touching the dart casts a spell, firing a liquid arrow at Julian. He fires it true and hits the Halfling with the Acid Arrow, causing 4 points of damage. (Julian should do something to prevent further acid damage, but I know that he wouldn't have bothered).

***************************

Julian manages two good blows on the Elemental, and it seems to liquefy and pour itself back into the earth. Revi threatens Arm, showing genuine concern for the unicorn. She moves out of Arm's Stink Cloud and is hit be the Elemental on the way for 19 points of damage and dirt smears. She retaliates, but cannot quite manage a solid blow to the creature.
Ruby topples Seven with her next arrow, and he falls screaming to thud against the ground inside the circle. She then hustles 30' (?) closer to the circle whilst avoiding the WindWall (?).
Wynum reveals his talents in an amazing leap. He kicks up his hoofs and runs with some speed at the circle and releases and arrow which precisely hits Five's longbow. The longbow shatters and is flung from Five's hand, landing 30 below him on the ground. He then leaps into the air and easily he clears the 10' of webbing to land on his hooves inside the circle.
Arm takes cover from the arrows above and sings to inspire the Mithril Order, singing stories of great battles won against evil.
Thar moves inside the circle, then turns and puts an arrow into Three, who yelps in pain then turns to find his attacker. Thar's Spiritual Weapon hits the invisible Chloe for 4 points damage. [not sure what penalties this should have for an Invisible creature within Darkness. Will have answers for the next post, for now it hits.]

*****************************

The unicorn lies on the ground, still retching.

Ettercap 2 throws a web-sheet at Wynum as he leaps into the circle, though he misjudges the centaurs pace considerably. Having missed he moves away from Wynum as far as possible.

Shocked at having lost his weapon Five draws his Morningstar and with little thought of his own life bravely leaps at the Centaur (Ranged Touch attack), landing on the back of the centaur. Five takes 6 points of falling damage and gives 9 damage to Wynum.

Elemental 2 dissolves into mud under Julian's falchion.

Elemental 1 attempts another two slams on Revi, one of the clay fists hurting her to the tune of another 11 points.

Six, Three and Four see Opportunity as Thar runs into view. They launch their arrows from their longbows at the priest, with only one of them hitting for 6 points of damage.

See as he hit Julian easily enough Mettik casts another Acid Arrow at Julian before retreating towards the stones. (Touch attack AC 17, damage 1, plus 2 ongoing from previous arrow)
The white skin on the stone disappears of a sudden.

ooc: DM, I didn't see a miss chance rolled for the AoO :)

With Arm's singing, Revi is able to strike the elemental just barely, then follows up with her second attack that should kill the creature.

Attack1 vs Ele1: Hit AC19 MC61% (Power Attack 7)
29 +3+2+2frost = 36 damage

Attack2 vs Ele1: Hit AC22 MC31%
29 +3+3+2frost = 37 damage

Ruby shuffles foward just a little bit more and glances to the closest two bugbears. She does not know who they are shooting at inside the circle of stones, though she hopes it is not Thar. Hoping to catch the bugbears by surprise, she tries to keep her movements quiet right before she fires off a pair of arrows. "Hey pugnose...catch."

[Ruby vs. B3 - hit: 30/19 and damage: 7/9]

OOC yeah I hate miss chance % rolls.
42%

Thar AC 25/26, 64/70 hps, Mag Circle vs. Evil  d20+13=16 ; d20+13=16 ; d20+13=23 ; d100=98 ; d8+2=6 ; d8+3=10 ; d20+17=19 ;

Thar ignores the arrow wound, as its more of a pinprick. However, he does know that's he a nice target for the archers to shoot at and decides that it's time to try to find cover or something like that...

He notices that Chloe is trying to escape, and tries to hear her steps... (Listen = 16)... All he can tell is that she's moving to the East...

(DM - Does the spiritual weapon get an AoO against Chloe for her moving away?... ) Hit AC 16 (Probably a miss? 98% on hit, so this misses either way...)

He commands his spiritual weapon to move south and hit Mettik. Hits AC 23 for 6 pts

Finally, he shoots another arrow at B3 (which doesn't have partial cover against him anymore so vs. Ac20), misses AC 19... (would have done 10 pts but oh well...)

Overall Effects
1. Revi now has +4 enhancement on her strength (53/60 rds)
(53/60 rds)
5. Windwall (2/6 rds)
6. Spiritual Weapon (3/6 rds)
7. (From Arm) bardsong-inspire courage +2-+2 on attack & dmg rolls, +2 save vs fear and charm effects

Spells =
0 = Det Magic (2), Det Poison, Guidance, Read Magic
1 = Shield of Faith, Divine Favor, Entropic Shield, Sanctuary, SM1
2 = Aid, Lessor Restoration
3 = Dispel Magic, MS 3

OOC Thar, no AoO against Chloe since she is invisible.

Wynum {31/51hp. Str 6, AC18+20% vs B5, AC13+20% vs others. Delay Poison, Bless. 2+6 arrows}  d20=3 ; d20+7=27 ; d20+7=17 ; d4=2 ; d4=4 ; d20+17=28 ; 2d6+3=10 ;

{Reminder for everyone: Arm's +2 doesn't stack with Thar's +1 Bless.}

Quite impressed by the bugbear's bravery, Wynum prefers to put some ground between them. He trots sideways around Mettik, coming close to breath down his neck, while searching the stone circle for traces of Chloe, bow at the ready.

{Break from B5, provoking an AoO (AC18 using dodge and mobility). He circles around Mettik, staying away from AoO range (doesn't matter because he's unarmed but..) and ends his move on AN/AO 23/24, (he can move 16 squares).

Then he readies an action (Reveal after moving Chloe to preserve surprise...) Highlight to display spoiler: {Watch the webbing between the stones, and fire a seeking arrow at any square where webs get disturbed as if by an invisible creature. Seeking arrow will ignore miss chance from invisibilty and shmarkness. Hit AC28, Dmg 10}

Wynum now threatens Mettik with a Hoof attack AoO, resolved here: Highlight to display spoiler: {Hit AC27, Crit Confirm AC17, Dmg 2+4crit}.}

Listen: 3. Huh?

Arm continues his song, confident that his fellows have the battle well in hand...at least at the moment.

OOC swamped by work, barely keeping head above pillow/water.
I am going to bed now, I will make my posts in the morning.
Sorry, late again, again.
