Mark of Gargul: "The last ones we fought were warriors and mages both, and they seem to have ability to resist spells cast directly at them. They were in the Portal system when we were exploring them, and we were fighting Ga'alian zombies. From what they shouted during the battle, it seemed as if they were trying to protect thier portal from Ga'alian zombies as well. But they were also aggressive, attacking us from invisibility and summoning lots of monsters."

The Bloodpack spread themselves out a little to wait for the arrival of the ones pursuing the group that was still ahead of them. There was the slightest sounds fo the grass moving as something neared the grassy area that they had found. The grass in this area was no more than a foot deep in this area and you can see the marks left by a large number of feet that had trampled through.

Suddenly a huge snake comes bursting through the grass in your direction. Its head whips back and it hisses in your direction. Flanking it on each side slithers out a pair of humanoid snake things, that seem more than ready for trouble. Shortly after they pass out into the short grass, another comes out behind them as well but this one stares at you with lidless eyes. "Why do you block our way?"

Tishe' takes a step to one side to see the snake-taurs better, and casts a protective magic about her person, sharing it with her Familiar.

"Keep in your satchel", she tells Wart, "things may get dangerous real soon." She doesn't respond to the snake-taurs, waiting for Falmar to identify himself as the leader.

Tishe' tries to note if the tracks these three are making are all the tracks of the group they have been following, or if there is one or more still hidden in the grass.

Gilan continues to hold his position behind the enemy as he waits for some sign of true trouble. He was actually really surprised that these things had decided to talk instead of attack. They had after all smacked him into the grass earlier. He was not sure but he thinks that a couple snakes might be missing.

Falmar steps forward and slowly looks from left to right assessing those before him.( Detect Evil ) ..settling his gaze upon the one who spoke.

Hmmm. I wonder if those they are chasing are actually refugees or maybe something worse than these snake things....enemy of my enemy is one thing but this could all just turn out baked.

The snakeman shakes his head and then glares. "That is of no concern to you and we have wasted enough time." He motions for his people to continue the tracking of the group that they had been. Though no one moves right away, the leader sneers. "Will you step aside or what?" He seems to be more than ready to bring this to blows if you are looking for it.

Falmar can confirm that fact that this group, with the exception of the huge snake, all radiate a measure of evil. This would of course lead you to figure that they do not have the best intentions in mind for those they follow. Tishe' meanwhile goes over what they had seen of the tracks that they had seen and is very sure that this is all of the snakemen.

"We are the Bloodpack, and honor bound to protect the Sargrass Plains and the natural cycle of the creatures and people in it. We cannot let you pass without knowing your reasons are not malovent."

Tishe' is surprised as anyone else about her ringing declaration, but readies herself if the snake-taurs keep avancing.

Readied Action: First Yuan-Ti who gets within 20 feet of any member of the Bloodpack, Tishe' will cast a Wall of Fire in a circle around the yuan-ti, burning it for 3 damage.

Tishe's intent is with all the fire burning inward, the fire can't spread to the Sargrass, and isolates one potential enemy.

As his perceptions heighten Falmar feels the world around him seem to slow....the sweet scent of the newly trodden grasses, the burning heat of the mid-day sun as it beats down upon the Sargrass...the intrusive scent of the serpent ..smells that don't belong..mixed with the scent of life.... and a hint of blood that he has not payed much attention to for quite some time..although strangely that smell is more reassuring than off-putting....thinking of his friends and those he has met and fought with...the people they have helped...he fixes his gaze upon the Speaker and awaits it's decision

Gilans form rippled and changed as the talks went on till he was the huge worm that he usually used for battle. He did not see much reason for a different form as there were not that many of them. His form hunched as he crept forward a little further, preparing for whatever should happen.

The speaking snakeman(A3) hisses and shakes his head. "We do not owe you anything." He is already moving to the side of the group though he keeps his distance for now.

Snakeman(A1) moves in the direction of Falmar but is stopped by an encircling set of flames and stopping him in place.

Snakeman(A2) moves int he direction of the group on the other side. He draws two wicked looking weapons as he moves and seems more than capable.

The huge snake slithers forward without any commands from anyone, seemingly ready for anykind of trouble.

There is a rustle behind the group and Tishe' finds herself suddenly attacked by two smaller snakes but still large enough to crush a big man. [S1-grapple: 12; S2-grapple: 22; grapple DC 25 to escape]

A huge worm comes tearing out of the grass and takes the time to orient itself. His eyes lock onto the one further from the fight and figures him to be the one commented on. With that in mind, he roars a challenge and heads in that direction. Grass and dirt both are torn up under his claws as he does.

Tishe' feels the twin snakes wrap around her and without much thought teleports herself into the grass. This gets her away from the snakes and allows her to be safe for the minute.

Falmar casts a single stroke of lightning at the snakeman that is held in the ring of fire. As he steps to put himself into combat, he puts his hand upon his weapon and makes ready to draw it.

Gilan brings his huge bulk in a run at the snakeman that was the speaker, but pulls up short as he cannot do much more at this time.

Yanosh charges the huge snake, his war axe leading the way as he slices into the huge snake.

Grymash is seemingly frozen by the sudden charge of such a large snake in his direction.

Snakeman(1) is still trapped in the fire and does not seem to have an escape...as of yet.

Snakeman(2) moves in the direction of Grymash, his twin weapons slashing in at his armored body[hit: 35/31/26 and damage: 14/12/11].

Snakeman(3) glances to the large monstrosity that is bearing down on him but he does not seem phased.

Huge Snake throws himself at Yanosh, attempting to wrap him in the huge body[AoO - hit: 32 and damage: 21][grapple: 29; DC 28]

Large Snake(1) slithers in towards Falmar and attempts to slide it large body around him[grapple: 16; DC 25].

Grymash smiles, "that's what I wanted you to do" ... says the creeper to the fly. With a click of his heels,(boots of speed), Grymash instantly becomes a blur of steely motion with the approach of the snakoids. With move that almost seem elegant, yet brutal, Grymash is able to "snake" his double ax in around their wicked-looking weapons. And with his adamantine sting of his blades, he wishes to render their knives to pieces.

Tishe' starts the chant that will bring into exhistance aid for her pack and give them the edge in his fight. Her wall continues to burn around the snakeman that she trapped earlier.

Falmar strikes at the first snake that approached him and slices off a few scales. His second strike slices off a few more scales.

Gilan large jaws snap at the snakeman he is after but his teeth are deflected by the things armor.

Yanosh struggles in vain to get out of the huge snakes grasp, but finds that he cannot get away.

Grymash activates his boots and he becomes a blur of motion, his weapon seeking out the enemies in an effort to break it.

Snakeman(1) appears out of thin air near Grymash, one of his weapons slicing in at the unprotected back[hit: 36// and damage: 16//].

Snakeman(2) grins as sparks fly off his weapons but they seem unharmed by the attacks except for a few nicks and scratches. The snakeman sends a counter strike of his own at Grymash[hit: 40/28/35 and damage: 16/15/17].

Snakeman(3) seems to fade and then disappear altogether as if he was not ever there.

Huge Snake puts the squeeze on Yanosh trying crush him in powerful coils[grapple: ; DC 28 and damage: 12].

Dancing through seemingly endless reptilian coils Falmar hears the scaly slap slap slap as individual scales slide along his armor......As the first snake attempts to engulf him, Falmar strikes...and quickly follows up with a solid slash to the base of the head, spilling blood upon the ground and feeding the grasses that are being trampled beneath him.

Tishe' sends a pair of celestial lions in to help out Yanosh in the grasp of he huge snake. She then pulls out a brown bear to send after one of the snakes harrassing Falmar.

Falmar evades the enveloping coils of the two snakes, snapping off a pair of strikes to end the life of one of them.

Gilan goes in search of the one that slipped away.

Yanosh struggles in vain to get out of the huge snakes grasp, but finds that he cannot get away.

Grymash skips trying to destroy the weapons of the snakeman and instead seeks to destroy the snakeman himself.

Snakeman(1) sends a pair of cuts at Grymash, his twin baldes seeking to pierce through flesh and armor[hit: 33/26/27 and damage: 14/10/15].

Hey all,

JimW volunteered to step in and let me take some time away from DM'ing duties. Ordinarily, I would be offering to step back in now that he has other obligations.

However, I may have to extend my DM Holiday even further. The contract for the unionized production & maintenance employees at my workplace expires on February 1. I'm a management employee so, if a strike or lockout happens, I will be at work on a 5 day on / 5 day off schedule. I can't access the Wold through the corporate firewall / net nanny so I wouldn't be able to keep up with posting.

I'll know, one way or the other, either on Monday or Thursday next week. At least for a month, that is, until the contract for the unionized technicians expires.

Tishe' has her summoned animals attacking the giant snake that is holding Yanosh. She meanwhile casts another spell to aid her friends in the battle and a number of them feel themselves lighten like, getting faster.

Falmar kills the one snake and then turns on the other with deadly intent.

Gilan turns slowly to find Grymash going down and his movements are in that direction. He flares as he draws near and touches him with his head[heal: 18pts].

Yanosh struggles in vain to get out of the huge snakes grasp, but finds that he cannot get away.

Grymash falls and is in a very bad way with the snakemen taking advantage of his inability to fight on two sides at once.

Trellus begins the process of casting a number of spells to get ready for the battle as he can see his pack in trouble.

Just wanted to let you all know that I am hoping things are going to be getting back to semi-normal. Our father is getting out of the hospital tomorrow so that is good news. Problem is he has to go through radiation, he found out he is a diabetic and then has gallstones. Lots of little and big problems.

Growing weaker Yanosh struggles in vain in his attempts to break free.

AOO from Grapple attempt by S2 (32 with flank bonus...(Hits AC 32 Dmg: 9)
Haste Attack (Miss?....AC24 with flank) (9 dmg)
Melee attack (19....natural 1 fail).

Falmar struggles with the Large snake trying to stay out of it's grasp.....his concentration obviously distracted by the advances of the snakeman.

I seem to have been cut off from everyone else...I have to cut my way through to Gry....

Snakeman #2 delivers three cuts to the Celestial Lion B. The good beings damage resistance enables much of the damage to be ignored.

Tishe' calls out in the language of the Lands of Rest: (Celesital) Highlight to display spoiler: { "My lion friends, attack the half-man snakes!"} Obiediant to the mage's will, the lions stop fighting the giant snake and attack the snake-taurs

Celestial Lion A whirls and pounces on Snakeman A1, smiting with a paw and attacking with the rest, all missing. (Claw, Claw, Haste Claw, Bite)

Celestial Lion B also turns but is unable to strike with any attack.(Claw, Claw, Haste Claw, Bite)

The Brown Bear attacks the snake attacking Falmar, missing. (Claw, Claw, Haste Claw, Bite)

Tishe' herself sees that Yanosh needs immediate help or else he may visit the Gray Lord with Grymash. Steeling herself against hope, she casts a complicated spell and directs it at the giant snake. A green ray leaves her fingers to transform the giant snake into an inoffensive mouse!
