Giovanni Friday January 15th, 2010 4:08:57 PM "But of course Eclip, where I can help, I will. Unfortunately I do not have the Disguise spell and can't learn it at this time, however, I can help with the Feather Fall."
DM Jason (Ust Delmah) Friday January 15th, 2010 4:13:48 PM
Ust Delmah folks can slowly begin kicking back over to our gaming board. Anything you wish to do with a member of the Crimson Shields can still be posted on this board (with DM Al's permission) until your PC leaves the Float. Otherwise let's get our games back on track and rolling with the next modules.
Can't help it... I'm excited.
Larien (AC 18/17T/12FF, HP 61/61), Madeline (hawk, AC 20, HP 30/30) and Grif (griffon, AC 24/12T/21FF, HP 59/59) Friday January 15th, 2010 4:34:00 PM
After the early morning pig contest, Larien and Grif head to the WLoA HQ for another day's training (10th level WLoA training completed). In the evening, she joins the others for dinner and drinks, and talks at length with Captain Elvaran about the assistance programs to the Trash level. Who coordinates the attempts, how much gold is committed, how many people are directly involved in providing Trash level aid, what magical resources do they have, who administers the money/work to ensure that there isn't skimming/theft going on, etc.... Have job training/apprenticeships been attempted? How many people live on the Trash level relative to the Float at large? When reconstruction is done on the Trash level, is there security present to discourage vandalism, etc...? It occurs to Larien that some people may have financial motives to keep the Trash level residents downtrodden -- the disenfranchised are easier to push around/abuse/steal from, they'll work for below-market wages or get trapped into illegal activity by organized crime, gangs, pimps, etc... Larien does her best not to judge, she simply wants to learn as much as she can so that she can consider how best to help.
The wizardess also asks Captain Elvaran about the area around the lake the Float is on. What other cities or communities are there that the Float trades/interacts with? Are there any roads? She also asks again about the halfling trader/ship's captain (both to Captain Elvaran and the Crimson Shields), as he seems to have found a water route to New Elenna.
The next day and the day after, Larien does her previously scheduled wizard training. During lunch on the first day, she sees Eclip, and he mentions his need for some spellcasting help as part of an enchanting project or two. "Sure, I know both of those spells. In fact, I still have Feather Fall memorized if you want to start work on your project this afternoon/evening after I'm done with the days training. How many days of spellcasting do you need?" Later she sees Gio, and he too needs at least a day of spellcasting help, which Larien agrees to fit in around her own training, research, and item creation work.
Larien echoes Gio's sentiments about the Crimson Shields' hospitality, especially the use of their HQ and lab. "Indeed, many thanks for letting us strengthen ourselves when we are so far from home after the dragon battles. A few weeks to recover and plan is exactly what we need." She also wonders at next steps. "What will your group be pursuing next? I suppose the evil druids and the seawater intrusion are your top priorities, but I can't help but think that your druid problem is connected to the Green dragons, and the serious hurt that the Crying Woods are suffering from. It's hard to say how our Council will want us to proceed; now that we're at the Float, we should be able to establish at least a periodic teleportation connection with It'lal, which will help a bit with trade and emergency access to the outside Wold until something more permanent can be set up. And the Catacombs said they're willing to open a branch at It'lal."(A reminder to DM Jason that the wheels on that have already be set in motion by the Shadow Guardians.)"Opening a safe land route (or even an air route) from It'lal would at the very least require removing the Green as a threat; which would be extremely time consuming if it's even possible -- probably much more time than the Council can spare us. I've suggested some compromise approaches to the Council, but ultimately defending It'lal will be our first priority."
Holding Larien's specific plans past day-five on the Float until others have a chance to respond.
Giovanni Friday January 15th, 2010 4:49:39 PM
When Larien spoke about the Trash level and the corruption that ran rampant there, Gio wished he could help, but he would need to stay here to ensure that whatever aid was given found it's proper receipient. As it stood, he and the other SG's could be called away at any moment. Perhaps in the future when he could use his Oathbound abilities to enforce that a group of people who swore to help, actually did it, lest they be cursed. Throwing money at the situation had proven to be pointless, as Gio or any half-way intelligent person would surmise. Yes, perhaps next time he visited the Float he would be in a better position to help. Back home in New It'lal, he had plans to help the impoverished there too and he would be able to employ them as his loyal followers and base of operations were there. All in all, he had to let it go and push back the thoughts of the poor and their plight.
Syr Ac 20/19 HP -9/165 g18 Friday January 15th, 2010 8:06:14 PM
Syr hears the others concerns about the Trash level and sits quietly throughout. Later, he makes attempts at getting to know the guards and Captain Elvaran exaggerating some of the Shield's exploits when appropriate.
Taking Care of Business - DMAl Friday January 15th, 2010 9:20:45 PM
The party at the Giggling Ghost isn't all drink and merry. Captain Elvaran speaks at length with Larien about the administration of charity and recovery efforts in Trash Level. The guard captain admits to not really knowing much about the specifics involved in aid and reconstruction in Trash Level. It's not the concern of the City Guard. Finance, as with all finance in Floating City, is administrated by the Office of the Overlord, she explains to the dark elf. The bureaucratic machinery that ensures that services continue without fail through the administrations of different Overlords as they are chosen every Mask Day. She also admits that guard patrols in Trash are less frequent than in the other levels. There are criminal groups on Trash that pose a certain degree of danger. And, with the stench and poverty, a patrol on Trash Level is often seen as punishment.
Myra Elvaran also shakes her head at the question of settlements in the Crying Woods. The City Guard deals strictly with the affairs of the city, and doesn't often get out onto Turtle Lake. The only settlement she's ever heard of was commissioned by Lord Perimon, and that wound up being swallowed up by the Crying Woods, with all hands lost. Not a soul survived.
The guards listen with particular attention to Syr's stories of the exploits of the Crimson Shields. Many admit as to being relieved that the contest excluded the use of magic. Their skills, the grizzled veteran explains, do them well in police actions on Floating City, but against something like a red or green dragon, he admits, they'd likely be slaughtered in under a minute.
Three days later, Eclip returns to Barracks Level to the forge of Dander Stonebiter. Draped upon an armor stand is a suit of beautiful green armor. The tough scales of the dragon hide have been etched, shaped and sculpted to resemble all manner of greenery. Broad leaves hang over the shoulder pads, while vines twist in a protective weave up and down the forearm bracers. A tracery of ferns rises up to grace the greaves. And the rest of the armor is patterned after tall willowy white tufted grasses.
Jass' inspection of the warehouse at Shield construction reveals that though there is little more in the way of physical security than can be provided by any warehouse structure, the inventory that Dotta keeps every day manages to provide a great accounting for each piece of the Teucri material that the Office of the Overlord so values. On the second day, Phileas Bankable shows up at the Shield residence on Merchant Level with the details of the next construction project. It seems that the foundation of the city under Chariot's Run to the south of Barracks Level may be cracked. Large portions of the existing road may have to be torn up and the underflooring repaired. Hopefully, the damage doesn't extend all the way through to the ceiling of Fence Level. The man from the Office of the Overlord also hints that there may be a commission of a different kind to be extended in the near future. Debate and discussion is still on going, but the Crimson Shields may be the only ones able to take on a ... commission of this kind.
Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Friday January 15th, 2010 10:44:40 PM
The halfling cleric waits patiently while the bureaucrat speaks. When the man finishes, Belkior politely inquires about the existence of plans for the construction work and, discreetly, whether Phineas can shed more light upon this possible contract.
Giovanni Saturday January 16th, 2010 3:10:06 PM
The days were long, what with Brahmah giving Gio a full back tattoo and then the spry halfling crafting items the rest of the time that he felt he needed for future encounters with the Green--it was all very exhausting. He almost forgot about the dragon blood sausage he had made, almost, until lunch hit. Arriving at the sausage makers when time allowed, he inspected the savory fare and took a sample of one link--he immediately cut a bigger sample and offered it to the sausage maker himself.
If it met with his satisfaction, Gio would serve it along with dinner when the Guardians and the Shields convened to feast together.
Eclip and Artan CharSheet Sunday January 17th, 2010 11:51:36 AM
After spending three days working on enchanting a tear, the drow finally gets word that the armor is ready.
Returning to the forge of Dander Stonebiter, Eclip is excited about his armor being ready and expected to see the something extra Dander hinted at to be some image of symbol emblazed upon the chest Upon seeing the dragonhide armor etched and sculptured to resemble all manner of greenery the druid stands in stunned silence for a full minute, before responding "Its beautiful! You are more than a master armorer you're an artiste! I'm afraid my wearing it will only detract from it magnificence."
Eclip puts the armor on finding it is a perfect fit and don't encumber his movements in any away. "It's perfect! Thank you Dander Stonebiter."
Returning to the Shields place, Eclip can't help but show the finished armor to anyone. The drow is obviously very pleased "Thanks again everyone your help with the dwarf, He seems to be much better person now and he is one heck of an armorer."
Giovanni Sunday January 17th, 2010 5:12:12 PM "Woo hoo! Look at your bad self, Eclip! That is some awesome armor! Very fitting for a druid--a druid that kicks butt!" Gio was really impressed with the armor and it's craftsmanship.
Jass AC 20 HP 25/70 (Mage Armor, Fly, Unseen Servant) Sunday January 17th, 2010 8:09:18 PM
Jass would probably be a better buisnessman if he was the least interested in doing any sort of work, especially after his noble beating down in Trash Level. He uses the last of his interest just in showing his (two) faces around the Big Float. The sorcerer spends the rest of the time living it up in the Crimson Shields headquarters

Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 d20+9=29 ; Monday January 18th, 2010 6:43:54 PM
Syr meets with Phileas and insists that the man accompany he and Dotta to assess the repair of the understreet. On the trip there, he attempts to engage the man in conversation both personal and profession to learn more about him and the other job he has in mind (Gather info nat 20).
After they arrive at site, Syr waits while Dotta uses her skilled eye to see what kind of time frame it might take for the work to be completed. He later points out where he thinks security for the materials should be staged while working.
Back at Shield House, he approaches Corvis with a rueful grin, "Sorry for barking at you in the sty. Sometimes I just let my competitive nature take over. If we didn't have the likes of the halflings and sorcerors in the pit, I really think we could have won straight up. They just weren't built for that kind of sport. However, our last fight pretty much had me running in slow motion to the action. I'm sure that contributed to Florin's ..." he pauses with a sigh searching for the right word, "passing. I just want to be there for everyone but too often, I can't."
Endings and Beginnings - DMAl 2d10=10 ; 2d10=14 ; 2d10=15 ; 2d10=4 ; 2d10=5 ; Monday January 18th, 2010 8:58:24 PM
The Shadow Guardians gradually wind down their trip to Floating City. Giovanni spends a great deal of time with Brahmah, having work done on a tattoo. A tattoo or two. His excursion to the butcher comes off very satisfactorily. The butcher, upon sampling his own creation smiles and licks his lips. What greater sign of approval could one want.
On the way back, however, the halfling bard had an unusual experience. A figure emerges from the shadows of an alley very near the butcher shop. "I hear that you have some dragon's blood." The man is dressed entirely in black formalwear, including, of all things, a dark black cape with a blood red lining. His hair is slicked back in a pointed widow's peak. His accent is extremely unusual. "I would *like* to *buy* your *dragon's* *blood*!" He says, punctuating his words in a terribly odd cadence. The man offers a pouch of fifty gold coins for the blood.
Some spend the time in debauchery. Others spend the time in work. Syr and Belkior tend to Phileas Bankable. The elf the halfling, Dotta, and the Man from the Office of the Overlord all make their way down one level to a place on Chariot's Run, Barracks Level. Sure enough, a thirty-foot section mars the paving like a scar across the cobbles. All of the cobbles of the street have sunken into the floor of the level across this swath. No telling what might be required to fix things, Dotta says, until the cobbles are all pulled up and the damage underneath is assessed.
On the way, Syr, Belkior, and Dotta discover that Phileas Bankable is single and lives with his mother. He's been with the Office of the Overlord for twelve years and is dedicated to his job. He apprenticed at the City Office where he specialized in commercial title records, thus his current position with the Office of the Overlord.
When the hint is made that the Shields might wish to know more about the *other* contract, he says that he heard from a colleague who overheard a meeting through the Overlord's Receiving Chambers. They had been discussing the disposition of the Wrath, the warship that the Shields had saved from a watery grave. Apparently the repairs are near completion, but the ship now has no expeditionary crew. They'd all been either killed or driven off by the Lords of Diamond. Someone, possibly the Overlord herself, had suggested the Crimson Shields. But, another voice, most certainly that of Lord Perimon, strenuously objected.
Giovanni Monday January 18th, 2010 9:38:00 PM
Gio holds back a stifled laugh, "I'm so sorry sir, I've had it made into blood sausage," Gio indicates the butchers bag. "But thank you for the offer!" Gio bows and makes his way home, but is wary of being followed and if he feels he is, he'll use Alter self when he turns a corner and turns into an average looking human.
Brahmah had indeed done his best with Gio's full back tattoo and the spry halfling thanked him profusely for the artwork on both his back and the palm of his right hand.
Later that night Gio shared the entirety of the sausage rope with the Shields, giving Blinky a whole link for himself.
Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Monday January 18th, 2010 10:54:41 PM
The halfling cleric politely declines Giovanni's offer of the blood sausage before moving quickly into the kitchen to fix himself a quick vegetable and grain soup. Belkior slowly slurps on his soup while the others are enjoying the meal provided by the halfling bard.
The news about the potential contract is interesting but not anything to bank upon quite yet.
Halfling Grigory AC 15, touch 15, flat 11, hp 70, damage Tuesday January 19th, 2010 4:53:16 AM
Grigory is quiet since the pigfight. He spends most of his time in his room, and seems to only come out to eat with ink stained fingers.
He thoroughly enjoys the dragon's blood sausage, and takes this as an opportunity to chat with the halfling bard Giovanni.
Eclip and Artan CharSheet Tuesday January 19th, 2010 11:35:11 AM
As the Shadow Guardians prepare to depart over the several days, Eclip makes a point to thank each of the Shields for their hospitality they have shown them. The druid also lets them know that It'lal will be sending an ambassador/trade official from It'lal to setup an office in the Float, and that the shield can always get in touch with us through them if the need arises.

"I make it a policy never to eat intelligent things", Jass responds to Giovanni's offer, "too likely they can take an adverse interest in you for doing so."
Still, the sorcerer has had a grand old time with the Shadow Guardians. "Be sure to stop by whenever you are in town", he tells Eclip, Larien, and the others. "Even if we're not here, I'm sure you can use our home for a safe refuge. And maybe we'll come to see you at your place too!"

Giovanni Tuesday January 19th, 2010 1:57:50 PM
Speaking of ships, Gio brings out a toy boat that he's been carrying for a long time. "Master Brahmah, could I get your autograph on this expertly crafted toy boat? I already have Zeoll's, who told me about the nature of those on the boat, and yours would make two of the four needed. I had almost forgotten all about it if you had not said anything."
Gio hands Brahmah a toy sailboat, very finely carved, with four crew: The captain is a halfling wearing loudly multicolor pants, the first mate is a dapper fellow with dark glasses, the second mate is a tattooed minotaur, and the navigator is a wreathed liontaur. Thanks DM's for an interesting crossover and putting up with us :)
Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 Tuesday January 19th, 2010 6:15:36 PM
Syr returns with the others and shares some of the insight that Phileas gave them with the others, "Appearantly, there is some noise at the Overlord council of us taking that ship out... I'll be frank, I have little idea about sailing and matters maritime. Nothing is set yet but who is familiar enough with ships to lead? Brahmah?"
Chiming in on the sorceror's conversation, "Hey Jass, isn't intelligence all relative? I think that some of those guards that caved my face in fall into that category."
The Final Days of the Shadow Guardians - DMAl Tuesday January 19th, 2010 9:12:33 PM
During the next ten days the Shadow Guardians are in and out of the house variously and at various times of the day. One day, Ivy mentions that the Guardians had had a visitor, another drow. She had been too polite to eavesdrop and did not know what the visit had been about, but the man had the air of a messenger about him, or perhaps an envoy of sorts.
Various Shields and Guardians work on personal crafting projects. And, during breaks there is talk of sending an ambassador from It'lal to the Floating City.
Ten days after the day of the pig contest, the group from It'lal say their farewells. Along with them is another figure dressed in a dark cloak and midnight blue robes. A peek under the hood of his robe reveals him to be another drow. He says nothing while in the presence of others.
A day after the Shadow Guardians depart for It'lal in their Swan Boat, a group of workers arrive at the front door of the Shield residence. They carry a large potted apple tree and an attractive wood and wrought-iron bench. The foreman amongst them delivers a message from the Shadow Guardians. He says that they had pooled their money and purchased the bench and the apple tree to be installed in the back garden of the Crimson Shields residence in commemoration of the meeting between the two groups. May the tree bear fruit for many years.

Corvis Zurvich AC:30 HP:29/130 Tuesday January 19th, 2010 10:00:47 PM
Corvis hopes to see the drow off also, offering his hand to any of those who wish to shake it. He also thanks Larien the most for the talk about her grif, "If I see anything in my travels of more interest I will try sending some of the info back to you in trade for the info on your grif."
When the bench and tree arrive he smiles and glances towards Syr, "Seems we have made some good friends. Maybe we will meet them again one day. Just hopfully on a good day, no fighting or pig wrangling."
(I know I missed some posts but I did enjoy the cross over event also. It was nice to see some of the characters I once DMed myself.)
Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Tuesday January 19th, 2010 10:04:08 PM
The halfling cleric begins to get restless once his companions and the Guardians are fully recovered from any injuries and no longer need his attention. So, as he ever does, Belkior starts planning to make some items.
Considering the rumours that they have just received, making something that would make movement and survival underwater might be a very good idea. But he doesn't know if he should take the time to make a Helm of Underwater Action or simply one or more samples of a Bottle of Air.
Jass AC 20 HP 25/70 (Mage Armor, Fly, Unseen Servant) Tuesday January 19th, 2010 11:23:07 PM
Jass tags along to see off the Shadow Guardians in thier Swan Boat. The fruit tree is a surprise, and the sorcerer is thoughtful all day...
Jass immensely enjoys bantering with Syr and Ivy, playing with Dotta and Furball, and listening to the stimulating conversations between Grigory and Brahmah. Welll, the one-sided conversations between Grigory and Brahmah.
The straw-haired human isn't much on planning, but even he can see that the Sea Wrath is going to need sailors to sail it if the Crimson Shields are aboard. "I think only Sieur Brahmah has any of the necessary skills, and I've already put my hands and face on the line for the cause. No way I'm working like a sailor myself!"

Halfling Grigory AC 15, touch 15, flat 11, hp 70, damage Wednesday January 20th, 2010 5:53:30 AM
Grigory tries to spend much of his time documenting what he has learned of the Float so far. Each day he sets out on an exploratory walk, asking if anyone would like to be a 'guide' for an hour or two. Upon returning he sets about scribing much of the detail into his books, usually by his own hand, sometimes with the aid of the Unseen Servent (who defiantly includes an occasional spelling error).
Beyond the Horizon - DMAl Wednesday January 20th, 2010 8:59:22 PM
The Crimson Shields go to the Docks to see off the Shadow Guardians. Through a certain amount of misunderstanding more gifts are exchanged. Grigory, during the visit of the drow from It'lal, has amassed quite the body of knowledge on Floating City. Belkior, armed with nothing but a rough description of a request that may come from the Overlord herself, begins preparations for what can only be seen as underwater exploration.
Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Wednesday January 20th, 2010 9:30:38 PM
The halfling cleric continues his preparations for the coming journey. Even if the trip isn't intended to go underwater, Belkior does believe in being prepared. And he remembers how he struggled the last time the Shields went underwater. Not to mention the fact that the last time he and his companions had seen the Wrath, it had been taking on water and about to sink to the bottom.
Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen of Domi (AC 27, Hps 187/182) Thursday January 21st, 2010 12:50:13 AM
Brahmah goes to Catacombs briefly and then rejoins the group. "Polo, we I have time, friend, I'll give you some good toys." (casts speak with animals to tell him)
Halfling Grigory 5d100=311 ; Thursday January 21st, 2010 6:04:55 PM
Grigory is quite pleased with his latest volume. He returns to the first few pages, always left blank, and titles the last two CONTENTS. From there he begin place numbers in the outside bottom corner of each page. Three hundred and eleven, with a few blanks still throughout, and a several at the end.
Then, very carefully, with his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth, he scribed the following on the third page:
TURTLES AND TOWERS GOLD AND TRASH A BUOYANT METROPOLIS LOST IN THE WOLD Grigory Hamwich Fern Pipewood Trufflefinder's Guide to THE FLOATING CITY
On the cover, in gold ink, he wrote simply, THE FLOATING CITY.
"There, still incomplete, of course, but ready for digestion. I'll have my Unseen Servant duplicate it tonight. Well, it'll make several copies of the next few weeks. I'll make a few more sketches to complete it today and tomorrow. The Servant can compile an Index for us as well."
Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 Thursday January 21st, 2010 7:22:37 PM
Syr takes the next few days working on the repair job in the street, leaving early and coming back late. In the back of his mind, he evaluates some of his new teammates based on their actions with the pigs. He talks to himself as he works, and even sums it up later to Jass when they are alone, "The halfling has heart, the slugger seems soft." Shrugging his shoulders, "Time will tell."
Work and Hobbies - DMAl Thursday January 21st, 2010 8:58:18 PM
Belkior begins the laborious process of crafting a magic item. This one, however, should be ideally suited to underwater activity.
The great brown bear tips his head to one side as Brahmah speaks to him. "Toys?" he asks, as though either not understanding the term, or not understanding why they should be given to him.
Grigory completes his first scholarly work since arriving in Floating City. It's a moderately weighty tome, and he prepares to put it into mass production. One could possibly grace a library somewhere in the Shield residences. The others ...
Syr works with his crew on road repair. The first couple of days are occupied by tearing up the street, not as simple a task as it might seem as each cobble needs to be saved to be used again once the surface underneath is repaired. Gradually, as the cobbles are coaxed from the place in which they've lain for untold years, the damage underneath is revealed. Most of the surface beneath the street is a hard material, solid, though with an odd sort of give to it. But a long scar-like section seems to have been damaged, the material has been pulverized, possibly from a great impact or from too great a flux in the surface. The pulverized section has turned to a granular gravel-like consistency and, in essence shrunk. It will have to be dug out and replaced.
Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Thursday January 21st, 2010 10:14:14 PM
The halfling continues to work, enchanting a valuable pearl with magics to protect himself or another person when underwater. Belkior works steadily and quietly, occasionally checking with his companions.
Corvis Zurvich AC:30 HP:29/130 Thursday January 21st, 2010 10:20:00 PM
Having little to do at the moment Corvis decides to hang with Syr if he wishes the company, "Anyway I can give a hand with anything for awhile? Lifting or moving stuff. I have some muscle and the workout wouldn't hurt."
Corvis smiles as he is trying to get to know Syr better since Syr was such close friend's with Florin, "How long have you had the company? Did Florin help out here much...I mean I know he liked helping those in need and such and it looks like thats why this company was started inless I'm mistaken."
Halfling Grigory Friday January 22nd, 2010 12:00:26 AM
When Belkior is not so engaged with his casting, Grigory asks him several questions about the process of enchanting items for clerics. Later that day he records the differences in a short essay (words) titled ARCANE AND DIVINE: PERMANENT MAGIC ITEMS, A Short Study in the Different Methods of Charging Items with Magicks.
Jass AC 20 HP 70/70 (Mage Armor, Fly, Unseen Servant) Friday January 22nd, 2010 5:17:05 PM
Jass continues his foray into making Silverleaf an established personna. No need for looking for information right now.
In thinking about an underwater journey, Jass suggests that people get some Alter Self potions. "Real inexpensive, versatile, and long lasting to be a merman or sahaugin or other waterbreather."

The monk smiles proudly at Corvis, "Since the begining! I remember the days of helping rebuild the city." he pauses for a moment, "I'm still not quite sure how I feel about repairing streets although it keeps the body busy but frees the mind." Sweat dripping from his muscles, "How about you? Been in the bounty game long? Catch anyone famous?"
Everyday Life - DMAl Friday January 22nd, 2010 8:56:45 PM
The Crimson Shields spend the days engaged in work. Days in Floating City pass from one to the next. Beyond the scope of their ken, the gears of events turn, mesh and crush all who find themselves between the massive cogs. There are things out there, but here in Floating City, people pass in the streets. Ivy packs lunches each morning for Syr, Corvis, and sometimes Jass when he goes out. She tends to Grigory and Belkior sometimes so involved in their activities that the halflings forget to feed themselves.
Life is quiet in Floating City. For now.
Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 Saturday January 23rd, 2010 11:51:14 PM
Coming home one night Syr is relaxing downstairs when he suddenly bolts upright and slams a palm to his forehead. "How could I have forgotten!" Looking at the others he says, "Stay right here, I'll be right back!" Racing up the stairs to his room he disappears for a while.
Later he comes down the stairs with several sacks in his hands, "Sorry fellas, with all the excitment brought about by the drow, I just plain forgot." He tosses a sack to each member of the Shields excitedly. "Phileas came by with our 1st payment. He's really not a bad guy. Inside each of the sacks is 71 platinum pieces and 14 gold. (714 gp). It might be a good idea to get some of those potions Jass was talking about."
Handing an extra bag to Brahmah, "The Catacombs guy came by today with a bag for me, saying that some minotaur with a bear really liked the Tears. There can't be too many of them around so I figure this bag is yours. That's their kickback to me and I can't take from a friend."(750 gp)

Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Sunday January 24th, 2010 10:28:05 PM

Jass AC 20 HP 70/70 (Mage Armor, Fly, Unseen Servant) Monday January 25th, 2010 2:48:37 PM
Jass, under the disguise as Silverleaf, makes his way to the Merchant Level and Critaceous' Certified Curios. He meets with Eustachian Critaceous to see how the wind instruments and elven boxes sold. Any that did, Silverleaf will take the 120gp and eagerly give Eustichian 30gp. "I am going to travel through the Crying Woods for a while, but since this worked out so well, I've got a few more boxes and instruments I can let you have for the same arrangement."
"Also, do you have any small items that I may be able to purchase from you and sell to the people I meet on my travels?"
Money Matters - DMAl Monday January 25th, 2010 9:01:51 PM
Syr, inventor as well as business tycoon, calculates the monthly dividend from the group's investment in Shield Construction. It doesn't amount to much, given the coin that the Shields are used to working with, but it's a return from an investment in the betterment of the city itself, a small reward for giving to the community in a very real and down to earth way.
He also returns the commission that he received off of Brahmah's purchase of Ebyron's Tears - a gesture of generosity.
At Critaceous' Certified Curios, Jass finds that the items he left on consignment were purchased just the other day by a gnome who said that he worked with a wandering minstrel troupe. The gnome was, at first, intrigued by the flute, and when he heard that the box was made by the same people, he bought it as well. Aside from that, though many people remarked upon the items, none seemed interested enough to buy them until yesterday.
When asked if he had anything for Silverleaf to peddle on his journeys outside of the Float, Eustachian brings out a bracelet. The simple piece of jewelry consists of small flat tiles of a white stone set into frames of some form of base metal, linked together in a row. All in all, very plain, but Eustachian adds that the woman who sold them to him claims that the bracelets cure back pain and the pain in old hands. Critaceous says that he himself cannot vouch for their efficacy, but he came on the bracelet cheaply enough. Only two gold and five silver.
Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Monday January 25th, 2010 10:32:58 PM
The halfling cleric is waiting for a delivery from the Catacombs in order to complete his crafting efforts.
Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen of Domi (AC 27, Hps 187/182) Monday January 25th, 2010 11:44:30 PM
"Thank you for the Catacombs stuff. I was getting these for Polo in case he gets into combat. The last companion rarely got into combat, but Polo requires greater handling and will be with me more often than Heyoo, my previous friend."
The ranger fits the tears into the fur on the bear's forehead, the gauntlets on his front legs and the amulet of mighty fists around his neck.
He puts on his new belt and packs away the necklace of adaption.
"Okay, I'm ready to go. Where too?"
Halfling Grigory Tuesday January 26th, 2010 12:01:17 AM
Grigory's interests fall with Belkior's crafting again, and so he considers his own spells for an aquatic environment.
Jass AC 24 HP 70/70 (Mage Armor, Unseen Servant) Tuesday January 26th, 2010 11:54:20 AM
Jass-Silverleaf will purchase the bracelet. "I'll see what I can do with this", he tells Eustachian, and puts it into his well-worn backpack. "And I would like to provide you with one more wind instrument and box... at the same arrangement?"
Satisfied that his personna is established, "Silverleaf" will pay for his room at Giggling Ghost and take a Turtle to the edge of Crying Woods the next day and move into the woods until he is lost from view. Jass will then become invisible with his wand, make his way back to the shore, Alter Self into a Sahaugin, and swim back to the Big Float. When he is swimming underneath the docks of Floating City, a concentrated Dim Door brings him wet and happy into his room in the Private Sanctumed Crimson Shields headquarters.
"It may take some smarts and a bit of magic, but I think I've got us a reliable source of information unconnected with the Crimson Shields", he tells Syr and the others smugly over dinner that night.
Furball chitters happily about the discoveries he has made while playing hide-and-seek with Ivy.

Syr smiles at Jass' enthusiasm, "While I can not see myself going to the lengths you have, I admire the effort and results nonetheless. For those of us who know you, it'll be tough calling you by any other name."
He moves over to the bear and tentatively under the minotaur's watchful eyes allows the animal to get to know him. (Handle Animal 5?) " Does he bite? We've never had anything bigger than a dog around before. I guess considering your size, it's only right to have a bear."
Excusing himself from the others, "I need to get to the Catacombs to make a purchase."
Jass begins the day with an odyssey that takes him from the Docks of Floating City to the shores of Turtle Lake. The trip takes seven hours by Turtle ferry. By the time he reaches the shore it is a few hours past noon. As soon as he enters the Crying Woods, the sorcerer feels the vehement hatred of the Woods. Florin, apparently, is nowhere nearby. The nearby leaves crackle, as though they might reach for him, and take him in. On the forest floor, in fact, Jass spies a small white tendril snaking its way over the ground toward him. Even invisibility, does not deter its progress.
Fortunately, the tendril is slow, and a hasty retreat leaves it far behind. Then, he begins the long journey back. A seven hour swim is long, even for a Sahuagin. A seven hour march is long. Jass, in fact, finds that the view from the very surface of the water is quite different form that high upon Turtle back. It is difficult to gain a perspective. Landmarks soon disappear, until Jass the Sahuagin becomes completely surrounded by water and no idea which way is which. The sun descends toward the horizon. Night will bring darkness to add to the lack of direction. Two hours and twenty minutes into the swim, Jass' Alter Self spell ends, leaving the sorcerer floundering in the water. He musters the concentration to renew the spell, but how long will he be able to keep it up?
He keeps swimming. What else can he do? He's lost the direction back to the beach. One direction is as good as another now. Evening comes, and the sky darkens. Though the water is no colder than it was before, with the departure of the sun, the lake feels somehow more chilled and desolate and the phrase A Watery Grave comes to the sorcerer's mind. How long has he been swimming? Four hours? Five? Six? Eight? Up above, a star appears, then two, and three. True night is coming, and no Floating City. The second spell ends, and Jass, caught by surprise, takes in a mouthful of lake water before he can renew the spell for a second time. He swims on. He swims through the dark. If he misses the city, might he make it to the other side? How big is the lake? How many spells has he used? His muscles feel so tired. They tense and cramp. The stars above look down on him, twinkling, laughing at the man foolish enough to go off by himself into the dangers of the unknown. Twinkling stars that form ... Wait. These lights are not the cold silver of the stars above. The light is warm and orange. Torchlight. Firelight. The city. It's the City! He's made it. One spell more, and a wet and weary Sahuagin drips a growing puddle of water in the Shield Residence on Merchant Level. Brahmah's bear looks up at the appearance, glittering tear-like gems in his fur. He opens his mouth wide as though with a yawn, and the lays his head down on his paws again.

Corvis Zurvich AC:30 HP:29/130 Wednesday January 27th, 2010 1:25:01 PM
(Sorry for the long delay in my post. I think my brother posted on the L&B whats going on.)
Corvis when he spends time helping out Syr with the construction buisness, "I bet it is quite different from your normal everyday life, it helps however to have something to fall back on doesn't it? Meaning when it comes time to settle down." Corvis thinks over Syr's question about Corvis's life as a bounty hunter before speaking, "No one really famous. I have had my share of hard bounties and some who were well known killers, debt owers and such. My hardest challenge was in the taur islands where I had to bring in a minotaur. He was a big burly guy and deffinetly didn't want to be brought in." Corvis is clearly pretty well traveled, "Some know me enough that my name is enough to strike some nerves, others not so much. I've always tried to walk a fine line though as to not slip off the path of doing good deeds. Sometimes though what your told on a bounty turns out to be different then the real truth. I have to select my jobs very carefully."
Corvis continues spending time at helping out around the Float and learning more of his new companions. Jass is deffinetly a interesting character though as he reminds him of some of the bounties he has chased in his life. Easy to change appearances and such, he would be a very hard person to track if needed Corvis thinks. Belkior is quite a intersting fella also considering there were times that Corvis could of used help from a healer with Belkior's talents but had to rely on potions and natural healing. The group was quite different and working with all of them was sure to be interesting when things came to it.
Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 Wednesday January 27th, 2010 8:43:43 PM
Smelling something in the air, Syr spends his time with Ivy and Jella. He pays particular attention to how they are coping with the loss of Florin and tries to fill in that void whenever he can. Finally, he makes sure that the two are capable of handling things on their own. However, he is a bit taken aback when the woman goes on at great length about knowing what being the wife of an adventurer entails.
Grinning at Corvis, "Yeah, I can't imagine bringing in Mac or Brahmah." With a smile he jokes, "I'd have to rent an elephant."
How Others Spent the Day - DMAl Wednesday January 27th, 2010 9:00:19 PM
The day that Jass goes off on his trial of endurance, Syr and Corvis go off for a day of labor with the crew of Shield Construction. The work is mundane. Prying out cobbles and stacking them for later use. Digging out the pulverized stone under the street and stacking it in a pile for later removal. Corvis does most of the talking, speaking of his life.
On their return, Syr spends some time with Brahmah's companion. The bear raises its massive head at the elf's approach. Swinging a brown muzzle in the direction of the proffered hand, the bear sniffs with its large wet nose. The bear snuff, and Syr feels a blast of the bear's warm moist breath. The bear turns away, unimpressed and unmoved.
Before leaving for the Catacombs, Syr spends some time with Ivy and Jella. Ivy's face is stoic, though she is only human, and there is a decided longing in her eyes, a sadness that she holds below the surface. She mentions that they - she and Florin - had been married not nearly a year.

Halfling Grigory Thursday January 28th, 2010 3:51:21 AM
Grigory writes. When he is not eating or sleeping this halfling can surely be found crooked over one of his volumes waving his quill across the page. Interestingly, a second quill works tirelessly on the floor beside him. The Unseen Servant is dutifully duplicating Grigory's works. However, after a few days of this he marches in to breakfast and announces, "Enough everybody! All work and no play makes an Adventurer a dull-witted fool with expensive toys. Let's go out and do something. Now then- What is good to do in this marvelous city?"

Syr returns from the catacombs (hopefully) and watches the others going about their business before coming to a conclusion. He approaches Brahmah, "Hey big guy, I heard a rumor that we were being considered for a sea going expedition. Wanna join me in digging out the truth?" With that invitation, he proceeds down to the docks to look at the ship. Once on the docks he looks for any sign of activity before seeking out the port master. "Heard any news lately?" (gather info)
Information and Desires - DMAl Thursday January 28th, 2010 9:06:44 PM
Syr makes his way down to the docks, determined to find something out about the commission hinted at by Phileas Bankable. He asks around here and there. Most everyone knows the most visible partner of Shield Construction, and member of the Crimson Shields. The elf finds out that the repairs to the Wrath are complete, and have been for a day or two. But the crew's been put on standby. Given the rush with which the initial expedition was put together, many find this odd. Some whisper that the original expeditionary force has vanished. One of them, a dwarf they say, was killed.
"Their special equipment was taken too," the Master of the Docks tells Syr. "Them Lords of Diamonds lifted them pearls right out of the hold under the nose of the guards. Don't know how they did it."
Meanwhile, back at the residence, one halfling mage has had enough of scholarly pursuits. He's up for fun. In the midst of one of the biggest, though admittedly most enigmatic, cities on the New Elennian Peninsula, there might be any entertainment that one might imagine. All one would need to do, would be to imagine it. Express the desire, and an outlet will let itself be known.

Goes with Syr to the docks. He breathes in the sea air and revels for a moment.
"What was taken from the ship again, pearls? What made them special?" Brahmah suspects, but isn't sure. "Special equipment and it were pearls...? If these were pearls of the sirines, I believe that they might be diving a wreck. If this has already been determined, please remind me. I have a bad memory."

Halfling Grigory Friday January 29th, 2010 7:00:04 PM
Grigory sets out to find some fun in the city. He decides that it is probably better to go up a level then down. With his rat familiar hidden in the fold of his gown the halfling sweeps about and walks up to the next level. First stop- a tavern. With two pints of dark ale under his belt he looks about for something interesting, and so wanders into a nearby store looking for an impulse purchase.
Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 Friday January 29th, 2010 8:48:54 PM
Syr peers at the minotaur, "Hey, I just bought one of those Sirine Pearls at the Catacombs! Lemme think, what did happen to them." He squints into the distance in thought, "Things are kinda jumbled together, I was really missing Florin at the time... if I remember right, Jass cast a spell and an unseen servant grabbed all 5 pearls. I think he said they glowed of magic to boot. All I can recall of that time is thinking of Florin and then Ivy, what DID he do with them?" He looks up at the minotaur, "I guess the only way to find out is to ask? Let's go find him and ask. I thought he was taking everything to the 'combs for identification."
Tall Tales and Adventures - DMAl Friday January 29th, 2010 9:06:36 PM
The old Master of the Docks turns at Brahmah's question, "Eh? Don't know 'bout no sirens," he replies. "Just heard they was pearls. Strange sort of equipment, if you ask me. But it makes sense to me that they'd be magic of some kind."
In the jumble of that very early morning, even Syr is unclear as to just what happened to those pearls that they found in the chest. Maybe it wasn't the Lords of Diamond who made off with them. Everyone else seems to think so, though.
In the kitchen of the Shield residence, Jella plays with Furball at the table as she and her mother listen to Jass' stories. The small dark haired girl is awestruck by the tales of flying mountains. Even Ivy has a difficult time telling whether Jass is telling tall tales or relating actual adventures. She stares at him with incredulity as she rolls out dough for a pie crust.
Grigory, has a few pints of dark and then wanders boldly out into the streets of Gold Level. He picks a storefront at random and enters. Pleasantly inebriated, it is a moment before the halfling notices that the other patrons in the store are all staring at him. In fact, they don't have that cast of randomness that patrons from various different walks of life will have. They all look somewhat similar in many respects. All robed. All with thin studious faces. All looking directly at him.

Yet it seems the Crimson Shields need me, and maybe even the other great people around here too. I mean, come on, how can I pass up the opportunity to have more people know me!?"
Jass looks and squeaks at Furball to keep Jella occupied. "So, how has my spell to keep spies out of the headquarters bee working, Ivy? Have there been any intruders or people coming around asking questions that seem to be trying to find out what is happening behind my Private Sanctum Spell?"

Safety and Threats - DMAl Monday February 1st, 2010 9:09:09 PM
Jass spends a great deal of time with Ivy and Jella. He enquires as to spies, and Ivy reckons that she hasn't seen anything out of place in the house itself. But, she says, she's noticed that whenever she leaves there's usually person or two look like their watching the Shield houses. She'd worry for Jella's safety, she adds, but, she says that she's watched them for several days, and they don't seem to intend any harm. With a very practical bent, she says that at the very least, if there should be a break-in, she things she might even be able to call on one of them for help.
Syr asks Jass what he did with those five pearls taken from the hold of the Wrath. He watches for signs of disembling. But, even beyond untruths, there is the question of whether the sorcerer even remembers or not.
Corvis makes his way to Barracks Level and enquires as to any bounties that might be available. He learns that there is a standing bounty for the Jack of Diamonds. 10000 gold pieces put up by the house of Lord Perimon. There is a 2000 gp bounty for the heads of any of the Lords of Diamond with verification that they are an actual member.
Grigory, in the odd little shop, attempts a highly unlikely ruse. The four men, three humans and a half-elf, and the one lone human woman, close in from all sides. A tall thin man in particular stares at the halfling with great concentration.
"He has powerful magic," the man says.
"As would be expected," replies the woman. "His willpower would, by necessity, be exceptional to bypass our wards."
"The question is," adds the half-elf, "what do we do now that he's seen us?"
"Let us not be hasty," chimes in a second man. "It is clear that you are a mage." The man points to Grigory's spell component pouch. "That is in your favor. But we need to know your ... sympathies, if you will. You, of course, are familiar with the Star Mages' Guild, are you not?"

Grigory thinks to himself, Hmmm, I'm in trouble here. The wrong answer could be troublesome. Then his eyes light up with sudden realisation, "More importantly," here his thoughts verbalise of their own accord, "two pints of dark ale on an empty stomach have enabled me to bypass certain wards without a thought. Isn't that interesting?" Addressing his audience (anyone within earshot is an audience in Grigory's mind when his mind is generating new thoughts), "No, really. Isn't it?" He begins to pace around in a small circle, flapping in his white robe, punctuating his questions with exaggerated arm gestures, "More important than anything I've ever done before, perhaps even more then what you are doing, certainly more important then the immediate consequences for my body right here, right now - I just walked through your wards, stepped through arcane barriers (were any of them divine? I doubt it, but worth an ask, don't you think? One must be thorough, of course) and all without a thought, without a blink, without the faintest tingle of anything beyond the effects of the byproducts of certain yeasts flowing through my veins. Have I uncovered a Truth previously ignored through fear that it might be real? Sneered at by those who have studied lest it be true that a microscopic organism can imbue the same effects? Hidden by the most learned so that his pupils should travel the same arduous pathway that he did?" Now building into a crescendo, Grigory, it seems, is about to unravel the very fabric of the universe, or, at least, he is going to acid wash it and rip it at the knees a little. Or maybe two pints is too much for the 42 lb pound wizard. "And what of Sorcerers then? Is it the case that they merely suffer the effects of this yeast toxin? Are they all secretly alcoholics? Was it 'the drink' that manifested arcane powers within these people? Is, then, the common bar brawl a side-effect of uncontrolled arcane energies in ignorant people? "And is the entire field of Divine magic based on alcohol? Or perhaps other natural drugs and toxins? Accidental or incidental? Deliberate of otherwise? " The Halfling pauses. He regathers his composure, swings his robes back into place, retrieves his rat familiar from his left sleeve. "But, as is proper with social practices, you did ask the questions first. So, willingly, I shall indulge you. Though I must ask one question of you first - "What was it you asked me again? I was side-tracked a little there for a moment."
"Oh yes, the Star Mages' Guild. Right. I can tell you that it seems to seek to dominate the globe, though it has not yet achieved this. This may well be due to the Guild stagnating its expansion through binding itself so tightly with the Plateau City government. That being said, it has made some significant moves across the globe - I've learned that there are chapter houses in South Harbor, Amberlund, Dourscale, the Tumblevoid, and Wellogy in New Elenna; Fokos in Fargunia; Isumbre in Zarthmoor; and the City State of Osto, and though I've not previously uncovered in the great Float I'm now in a mind to assume that there is one. "And yet, the Star Mages' Guild is not normally associated with an underground organisation such as this appears to be. Whilst I am new to the Float, I am not yet aware of any reason that the Star Mages should remain hidden, as they usually afford some respect in civilised circles. However, I realise now that I've not noticed any of the Archmages here as I've wandered about, though I've not been looking for them either. "Perhaps you are here as a 'hidden' chapter house. Alternatively, perhaps you seek to undermine the Star Mages. Either way, I think I'd prefer to not know, as I fear that this knowledge is a fast path to Gargul.
"Finally, to answer your question, I have no sympathies with the Guild, nor do I hold anything against it. I have, of course, met Star Mages in my journeys, and I've found them to be as amicable and gregarious as any other scholar or wizard. I have not joined the Guild, and I can offer no reason as to why or why not beyond it is not something that I have taken the time to consider properly as I've journey the continents seeking to uncover and archive as much new knowledge as possible."
He stands there, with his chin up, waiting. Grigory sweats lightly, certain that this is a critical point in his life. He will, he is sure, that he will evermore refer to his life as before-this-day, and after.

Jass thanks Ivy and then is distracted by a couple of things. The first is the great smell of berry tarts coming out of the oven. The second is the great swipe of a berry tart and the subsequent retreat from the kitchen to avoid Ivy's wooden spoon. The third is Syr talking about pearls.
Pearls? Jass looks at the elf and then gets a glint in his eyes. He lays on his most convincing voice along with some theatrics in a virtuoso performance on the tale of the Pearls...
"Pearls? Oh, THOSE pearls. Yes, I distinctly remember that I had my Unseen Servant pick them up, but I didn't keep them. Oh no! They were too heavy for a weak-limbed soul like me, so I had them put in Brahmah's pouch, that hefty minotaur. And do you know what? I saw him sell one at the tavern for wine! Well, you can never trust a minotaur when there is wine around, you know. And then a second one is a ball for that bear, (stage-whispering) I think he ate it. The other three Corvis was using to practice juggling just the other day and they fell into the water. Dear me!"
Jass gives him a wink. "I've still got them in a chest under my bed." And the straw-haired human brings them out to the main living area.

Corvis Zurvich AC:30 HP:29/130 Tuesday February 2nd, 2010 1:58:07 PM
Corvis sighs at no real work and otherwise smirks at the fact that it would take someone better then him to bring in a person like Jack of Diamonds. With this done he decides to head to the GG and a couple other places to drop the words that he would be open for alittle while for private contracts. He makes it clear thought that he would consider each job carefully before taking anything as to not get the wrong sorts of jobs. Corvis had been careful not to take on jobs that would give him the "wrong" name as a bounty hunter.
Once he is done spending time in various places he finally heads back to the Shield's place to relax. He does take a moment to comment to Syr and the others, "Quite interesting really that Jack and all the members of that group having a standing bounty placed on them." Corvis glances to Syr, "Would be alot of pretige involved in bringing Jack in but I think that is quite beyond my skill, let alone I think would bring alot of trouble."
Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 Tuesday February 2nd, 2010 8:31:08 PM
As the sorcerer begins his long winded explanation, Syr's forehead wrinkles and a scowl forms on his face. His dour expression is shortly replaced by a self-deprecating chuckle, "I guess I deserved that." Still smiling, he calls over his shoulder, "Hey Mac, next time we do some cooking, I think I know a certain sorcerer to put on the grill. He could use a little warming up... Anyway, rather than spending money on identifying these, how about we take them on a test run. Either Belkior or myself have an authentic pearl of the sirens that we can compare it to." Assuming Jass agrees the elf, leads him down to the docks once more. He uses each Pearl and swims in the area around The Wrath inspecting the hull for any signs of damage.
Beckoning Corvis to follow he talks to him along the way, "I'm not a big fan of Perimon. Anyone he puts a bounty on... I'm warming to already. What do you think it takes to become a Lord of the Diamond? I mean how does one join? Invite? Questing? Have you heard anything of them in your travels?"
Some Things Revealed - DMAl Tuesday February 2nd, 2010 9:13:39 PM
After a bit of showmanship and a bit of legermain, Jass comes up with the pearls. Ivy gives a mock frown as the sorcerer makes off with one of her treats fresh from the oven. Jella giggles at her mother scolds the man of Downs and he scampers out of the kitchen.
Syr, as Brahmah did, suspects that they may be Pearls of the Sirines. Unlike many other magics, these should be fairly easy to test through simple trial. Heading down to the Docks, the elf holds one of the pearls in his and leaps into the water. Instantly, he finds that he can swim like a fish, gliding through the water with ease. It is, in fact, very similar in feel to flying. He finds that he can even speak intelligibly under the influence of the pearl. The five pearls from the Wrath are indeed Pearls of the Sirines. The hull of the Wrath, passes inspection. It is solid and good as new.
Corvis finds, in his wanderings, that none are drawn to a bounty hunter with such stringent scruples as he has. Many, in fact, upon hearing his offer of employment coupled with his statement of morality, excuse themselves and leave.
Meanwhile, five people watch as Grigory expounds and theorizes. The woman seems confused and somewhat taken aback by the halfling's behavior. But one of the men, one who has yet to have spoken, one with the glint of what might be madness in his eyes, nods his head and smiles.
Even in the midst of his wild hypothesizing, a single fact comes to Grigory - something that came to light during the visit of the Shadow Guardians from It'lal. The Star Mages' Guild is banned from Floating City. (Success on Knowledge Arcana) They have nothing but a minor presence that works from the back room of a cheap low level magic shop on Fence Level.
"You walk a thin line, Master Halfling." This is the voice of the half-elf. He folds his arms across his chest and glares down at Grigory with suspicious eyes. "Your answer was very politically put. We are of the Star Mages Guild, and, if everything that you have said is true, you have wandered into a very unfortunate situation. For we cannot allow our presence to be know here. Our business here in Floating City is not yet concluded," he says, then adds. "And our secrecy is very very important to us."
Halfling Grigory Wednesday February 3rd, 2010 5:23:32 AM
"You know, you could have simply told me to leave. I wouldn't have known which side of the fence you stood on, and it wouldn't have been much of an argument to present to the constabulary. Picture it: 'Sergeant, whilst intoxicated I stumbled across a group of people that I suspect were either of the Star Mages' Guild, or plotting against it. I think you should do something about it. It was on the Gold Level, but I don't remember where exactly.' Grigory chuckles a little at his own joke. "Now, thank you, I am either for you or against you. I suppose I could let off a Fireball. I think that I could cast it despite your attempts at interrupting. I might even survive the blast myself. Though I think I would need two or three of them though to finish you all off. I could Teleport but then I'd just have you with me somewhere else. Or you'd probably just track me down. "So, where are we now? You've told me too much and cannot permit me to easily leave. I join you or die." Again he laughs as though this was actually amusing. "And yet, you know what? I guess this is the push that I've needed to join the Star Mages' Guild. The aims are noble, and basically the same as my personal aims - the pursuit of knowledge and the practical application of magic. And my curiosity has killed a few felines in the past. For some reason the Guild is not permitted to operate within the Float, and yet here you are. Why you cannot operate from Plateau City via the teleport circle is quite intriguing. A stake-out perhaps? Kidnapping? Theft? Sabotage? Espionage? "I wandered onto the streets looking for some fun. It seems I found it. Secrets are fun." The halfling appears to be at least a little insane. He has faced death so many times, and suffered a depression so deep that he now sees humour and amusement in some of the most mundane things in life, and he doesn't fear death.
Jass AC 24 HP 70/70 (Mage Armor, Unseen Servant) Wednesday February 3rd, 2010 12:53:51 PM
Jass more than happily comes with Syr and Brahmah to test out the Pearls. "I quite forgotten I even had these", he quips, "tells me that I have too many possessions. The only thing I really need is my magic and my wits!"
He continues to banter with the minotaurs and elf through the day, trading quips and threats in equal measure humorously.
Syr Ac 33/32 HP 205/205 Wednesday February 3rd, 2010 8:28:18 PM
He smirks at Jass, "Well at least you have your magic...."
Later, he hands a PEARL OF THE SIRINES to each of the group except Belkior while explaining it's use. He looks apologetically at Brahmah, "Sorry, no go for the Bear, big guy. I think he'll stay up top."
"Corvis, anyone approach you about manning the Wrath? It's beginning to look like Phileas' information might be a bit off."

Offer of the Star Mages - DMAl Wednesday February 3rd, 2010 9:01:36 PM
The Star Mages stand in a rough circle around Grigory. They listen in silence to his words. An occasional table screens the halfling from physical assault from one or two of them. But, if they were to attack him, the halfling knows that the strike with fist or blade with be the last thing he need worry about.
"Yes. Lets do call it curiosity," the woman finally says. "We are here for the same reason that you are. Curiosity. Did you know that Floating City is the single largest Teucri artifact in the known Wold?" she asks. "It's true. And it is only the policies of the Overlord that keep us from studying it."
"It is true." One of the men now speaks. "We cannot very easily let you go now that you know of our presence. But, you do seem amenable to our ways. We are alike, you and we. More than that, you, it seems, can walk freely in the streets of the city. We can use an ally such as you."
"This is Stavel," he says, indicating the half-elf. "Teaja," the woman. "Geminix," the man with the wild eyes. "Lashen," the third man. "And some men call me ... Tim. Now you have our names as well. We could detain you. Possibly even slay you. It would be the safe thing to do."
Lashen raises a questioning eyebrow.
"But that would also gain us little," Tim continues. "Whereas, were we to attempt to enter into partnership with you, we stand to gain much. I'll tell you what. Leave today. Walk free. And, if you'd like, return tomorrow after having given the offer of partnership a thought. We will ask favors of you, but in return, we can offer facilities that you have only dreamed of. If you do not return tomorrow, though, then we will be gone and you will never see us again."

Corvis listens to what Syr says and shakes his head as he walks along, "I know little of Jack other then rumors and things around the Floating City. I would expect it would be personal invite or maybe they give a test to see if your worthy. I really couldn't hazard to much of a guess considerign how quiet they seem to be. Heck wouldn't be shocked if Jack himself popped out to laugh and say something right now from how brazen I been told he is."
Corvis at the ship while Syr is looking it over glances to the ship and once again shakes his head no, "Not that I can remember. I can put the word out that I would be interested to see what comes up if you like. Might beable to talk that silver tongued Jass into helping out since he is quite a slick working man it seems."

He looks at the 3 Shields gathered around, "Anyway, we need to get to the bottom of this rumor. Corvis and Brahmah, let's assume for the moment that we are going out on a salvage mission of some kind. If we have to leave the ship then we need a reliable crew to man it, do you guys think you can start inquiring about sailors? Don't make any promises until you hear from us of course."
He looks at Jass, "You like making friends, let's see if you and I can charm our way in to see the Overlord. Once there, we can just ask the source if he needs help?"
Captain of the Wrath - DMAl Thursday February 4th, 2010 8:52:57 PM
While Grigory stand surrounded by Star Mages, the rest of the Shields make plans to find out what exactly lies on the horizon for them. Why, after all, wait for it to happen to you, when you have the means to go out and find it for yourself?
Standing on the docks after both testing out the pearls and inspecting the hull of the Wrath, the sketch out a rough plan, lead by Syr. Suddenly, from the direction of the water, comes a call.
"Ahoy! Crimson Shields is it?" The Captain of the Wrath calls down to the Shields from the deck of the ship. He looks little different from the night the Shields first saw him, the night that the Lords of Diamond burned the ship and killed the dwarf, Takerk Hibblebimblebeeber. "I seen you inspecting the ship. What do you think? Come aboard," he calls. "Come aboard."
Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Thursday February 4th, 2010 10:05:39 PM
The halfling cleric looks up at the Captain on the deck of the Wrath, trying to gauge the man's sincerity. Belkior is clearly cautious about anything involving water ... not just being underwater but the Paragon also doesn't trust boats, ships or anything else that travels on the surface. Still, there is a timeto be bold.
Belkior approaches the gangway or ships ladder where it rests upon the dock. Before stepping upon it, though, he calls up to the Captain.
"Do I have permission to come aboard, sir?"
Assuming that Captain answers in the affirmative, Belkior will carefully step up the ladder trying to keep his balance as the ship shifts slightly with the movement of the water and the City. Once he is on board, Belkior greets the Captain with a slight bow.
"Good to see you, sir!"
Halfling Grigory Thursday February 4th, 2010 11:05:38 PM
Grigory is quite amenable to this offer, and the people behind it are being quite reasonable. He feels that there really is something akin amongst them.
"You know, many people would have Fireballed first, and Speak With Dead later. Instead, you have sought out who I am, and so you've managed to increase your knowledge, perhaps exponentially. "I am more than happy to help you. I think that I may have a means at my disposal that would enable me to carefully study this magnificent structure, piece by piece. I shall speak no more of it though, lest that window should close on me. "I will see you on the morrow, then. Shall I bring some Bree?"
Grigory leaves the building, feeling that he managed that rather well. They didn't even ask my name. He sits across the road and down a little, and makes a quick writes the name of the building he left into his notebook.
Returning to the Shield's residence he asks Jass, "Is the Cone of Silence up and running, Ninety-nine?" Assuming it is for the purposes of this post, he relates some of his meeting with the Star Mages, careful to not name them directly. "I plan to return to them tomorrow to negotiate further how we might help each other out. I think that the Shield's Construction might be a useful way for me to further study this Teucri artefact upon which we wine and dine daily. If it all goes awry I will take full responsibility, none of you will have known of it, and I will exile myself from the Float forever. Is there something I've overlooked, some problem that you've come across previously that will hinder me?"

Brahmah returns, running from his second trip to the Catacombs in the past two days, sporting a new lightning tattoo, one not likely created by him. "That is my last one. No more room for magical ones anymore!"
Brahmah looks to the sea and attempts to predict the weather for the next few days, but first casts Guidance using a tattoo. (Survival 36) "Hmm...." He contemplates.

Jass can look and verify his Private Sanctum is still in operation. "And you can use it without going through a dozen doors too!", he tells Grigory.
The sorcerer is all set to talk his way into seeing the Overlord when the Wrath's Captain calls down his invitation. With a raised eyebrow and ironic smile at Syr, he moves up with the others and walks around on deck. Yep, thinks Jass, its a boat.
"Where are the VIP cabins?" he asks in all seriousness, eyeing the Captain shrewdly. "And do you have any hints as to our destination?"

Corvis s nods at Syr's comment and gives a simple reply as the captain steps out, not sure if Syr would want him to say to much with the captain around, "I'll look into that Syr and get back to you then, with Brahmah's help."
Corvis does glance to Jass and smiles to him, "No need to call me master bounty hunter or such, I'm far from that acomplished yet, maybe one day though....maybe..." Corvis shrugs and smiles still, "Ahh work was a bad way to say it but you are quite talented at talking I've noticed. You entertain little Jella quite well anyway with your stories of travels. I understand Florin was teaching her the way of the sword also. Maybe I should talk to Ivy about aiding in Jella's learning inless she would prefer to do it herself and also barring that she might think I'm trying to take Florin's place which I wouldn't try...Florin was a man of higher morals then I."
Corvis steps onto the ship when spoke to and looks the ship over before speaking to the captain, "I have sailed alittle, most ships are not as nice as this one though. How many people can the ship handle? Meaning crew and guests? Excuse me too, I'm not meaning to refer or suggest that the ship is a cruise or pleasure boat." Corvis has noticed in his travels that some captain's are very protective of their ship and how their spoke of.

Answers From the Captain - DMAl d100=88 ; Friday February 5th, 2010 9:04:23 PM
Brahmah looks out over the lake. His keen eye spots the signs of rain coming later in the afternoon. Nothing severe, but no one outside will be staying dry.
With a wave of his hand, the captain of the Wrath invites the Shields aboard. "Permission to come aboard," he calls out to Belkior. "Blast it, I've got the best hand picked crew a body could ask for, and they have us wait in port while they quibble on the marine contingent." This, apparently, in response to Jass' question on VIP cabins. Or, is it? "Do you know how hard it is to keep sailor' from running off to the inns and taverns? If I had VIP cabins, don't you think I'd be using them? Worse yet, they won't even tell me where we're off to. Never trusted me with the coordinates. Were to send a runner here with them just before we were to weigh anchor. But, you know how that turned out."
"Don't think I ever thanked you," he adds. "For saving my ship. Too bad you couldn't save the dwarf. Odd little fellow. On second thought, maybe it isn't such a bad thing."
"The Wrath has a crew of twelve. If I can get them all back once they decide the blasted Overlord's men decide who to send with us. Had a marine contingent of five before the Lords of Diamond attacked. One was the dwarf. You know what happened to him. A woman, a big fellow, half-orc cow, and a fellow with a bow never showed up again after the attack. Figured maybe they didn't want to wind up like the dwarf."
Corvis, who comes onto the deck of the Wrath for the first time, notices the six trebuchets mounted at port, starboard, fore and aft. The Wrath is clearly a warship.
Later, Grigory speaks to the Shields of the Star Mages. They, after all, made no injunction against his speaking of them to others. He mentions returning to the Star Mages on the morrow. He offers to go alone to give the Shields plausible deniability. But, will the Crimson Shields let the brave and self-sacrificing halfling take such a risk without backing him up?

Grigory spends the rest of the day in the 'garden' of the residence. He cannot sit still and spends much of his time pacing, and looking up for hints of the Teucri design that allows the sunlight to pass through. He is trying to talk himself through meeting the Star Mages tomorrow, working through every conceivable conversation and outcome.
He still plans to go alone tomorrow.
Mac Saturday February 6th, 2010 11:50:36 PM
From within the workshop (come forge) Mac tinkers away - as much keeping his eye and hand in practice as anything else. And thus from this vantage point that he occasionally notes Grigory out in the garden. When he finishes, and only once the outroom is swept and tidy, he steps out into the 'light' and asks what in the common parlance passes for 'a penny for your thoughts?'
Halfling Grigory Sunday February 7th, 2010 10:49:35 PM
"Oh, it's you Mac. I wasn't expecting anyone. I mean, I heard you in there. Just lost in my own thoughts. "I am meeting with people tomorrow in secrecy, and just a little anxious about it, I suppose. The halfling cleric approaches Grigory as the mage is walking in the garden. Belkior is concerned with how upset the halfling seems to be.
"What is bothering you, Grigory?," asks the paragon. When Grigory responds, Belkior nods his head and stops to think.
"You want to go alone, I can respect that. Still, there are ways that we can help you. Did you get the impression that the Star Mages would check for magical spells? I ask because I could cast Status on you like I ordinarily do and wait nearby, ready to come running if you need help."
"If we had more time, I could probably cast something like Refuge, which would very likely get you away from any trouble."
"At the very least, I can put some protective spells upon you. That might be helpful."

Jass shakes his head. "That's one of the problems with keeping secrets in an ordered society; one block goes and the whole building falls down. I don't like the feeling that I'm a puppet and someone else is pulling the strings."
"Lord Perimon is the one supposedly in charge of this venture, right? I know the Crimson Shields and he have a history of animosity..." and with a raised eyebrow, Jass invites Syr or Ivy to enlighten him on some of that history. "But the best information is from the horse's mouth. Is there any reason why we can't have a meeting with the guy and ask him direct-like? And then we do the same with the Overlord, too."
.......................
Learning of Grigory's plans, Jass doesn't like it. "I don't like it", he states with frown, worry, and thinking lines all appearing on his face. "They've got you in a bind right enough. One one hand (he holds up his right hand palm up) If you go alone, they've prepared all thier spells to detain and counter yours and they got you at thier mercy. On the other hand (up comes his left) you go with friends, protections, or scrying linked to you, it means you've blabbed and they can't trust you. One the other hand (Furball holds up one paw) if you don't go at all, they can't trust you and you'll never get thier info bennies."
"And of course if you are accepted and work with them (or for them) you may one day be acting directly against the Crimson Shields, let alone the Overlord. It feels to me that you have to take all the risk and they get all the benefits."
Course on the OTHER hand (Furball chitters at Jass and scurries away) there is no danger that is not also an opportunity." He shakes his head.
"Syr, I think this is an opportunity. IF Grigory is able to keep his activities separate, this is a great info supply, even better than my Silverleaf one."
"Grigory, you have to think of your answer for when, not if, your affiliations with the SMG and Floating City and Crimson Shields come into conflict. Who are you most loyal to?" Jass is breezy and has a it-doesn't-matter-to-me-what-you're-answer-is attitude. It's hard to tell what he's really thinking.

Syr ponders Jass' question. "Lord Perimon? To be frank... have we ever actually met him? If so, it wasn't memorable." He looks over to Belkior for confirmation. "We've dealt more with his 'agents' and people acting in his name. He's tried to tame the forest, neutralize the elves, and we've had several fatal altercations with his people. My gut says the Lord of the Diamond are more trustworthy than this man and I DON'T trust them. I'm not too keen on approaching him which is why I figured on going straight to the Overlord. What do you think of Silverleaf approaching him?"
Overhearing the halfling's plan he coughs nervously, "Grigory, you do realize that we signed an agreement with the Overlord regarding the Terucci materials, right? I just don't want you to get caught in a situation where you might feel conflicted." He pats Grigory on the shoulder, "That said, if you want backup, I think you can safely assume we are there for you."
Realizing his name was mentioned in conversation, Brahmah asks, "Corvis, what do you need help with? My ear is not as good as it used to be." One mangled ear and one good one make themselves painfully apparent.

Evening of the Offer - DMAl Monday February 8th, 2010 8:05:47 PM
More ideas come. Ideas on how to find out more about the Wrath and its mission. Syr recalls that in the many years that the group known as the Crimson Shields has known about Lord Perimon, they have never at any time actually seen the man.
The reaction to Grigory's news of the unsanctioned Star Mages is mixed, and range from concern for the halfling's safety, to the suspicion that the little mage may be turned against the Crimson Shields. Jass in particular, puts a very pointed question to the halfling - something he may have to think over before answering.
The next day comes, and so does the time to make an appearance at the shop that the Star Mages are using as a front. So far, the Shields, have tacitly agreed to let Grigory pursue this relationship with an illegal and possibly dangerous organization by himself.
When Grigory leaves the house, does he leave alone?

Corvis moves along with the others but once the group reaches the door to the Shield'ss place Corvis looks to Syr and speaks to him, "I'm going to go hit a few places and see what hiring the Wrath has done and also see if there is anyone looking for work and such. I would be alittle choosy though so I hope you know." Corvis wouldn't even consider hiring or offering aid to someone underhanded.
Corvis heads to various taverns, the GG and such to start plying questions and seeing people interested in possibly be hiried for sailing. Corvis will listen to people who wishes to be hired and judge them as he thinks they are good or bad and even make notes of which he thinks are fitting and what ones aren't.

Belkior - AC 13 - HP 122 Monday February 8th, 2010 9:40:39 PM
The halfling cleric casts Status upon Grigory and all of his companions before venturing out before the mage. Before he leaves, Belkior asks Grigory for as much information about the potential meeting place. If Grigory permits, Belkior will activate his Bead of Karma and also cast Spell Resistance before the meeting. If nothing else, spell resistance might be very beneficial when meeting the Star Mages.
Then, before the meeting, Belkior finds a place in a public square or fountain near the meeting place and begins speaking with any passersby who stop. If Grigory needs him, Belkior doesn't want to be too far away.

"No, no", Jass says with a laugh, "I was only mentioning Silverleaf as an example of an information source; he'd never be important enough to see Lord Perimon."
"Now, you tell me that you've had problems with others who say they work for Lord Perimon. Why don't we talk to him direct. Say to him 'hi, we're the Crimson Shields and what's your problem'.
"Or we go up and see if we can talk our way into see the Overlord. We get a signature from him and this town will let us do anything we want and Perimon wouldn't be worth minotaur pukey."
Still giggling over his clever anology, Jass goes along with Syr on whatever direction the plucky little elf wants to go. He'll cajole, charm, and lie his way up the chain as far as possible.
Corvis moves from bar to bar and from inn to inn. No one that he talks to seem to know anything about the hiring of a ship called the Wrath. But, maybe he's not talking to the right people. (Didn't hit the DC for Gather Info.)
Corvis himself solicits for potential sailors even though the Crimson Shields do not even have a commission relating to the Wrath yet. But, none of the potential sailors know this. All of the people that he speaks to are friendly and polite, but only six of the twelve that he finds meet the rogue's moral standards.
Belkior graces Grigory with a Status spell and arranges to place himself nearby, should any assistance be required. Brahmah accompanies the halfling.
Grigory arrives at the storefront, and, as before, simply walks in unhindered. The same five mages stand waiting for him. Four of the wizards wear different clothing, but, other than that, little has changed. Without a word or gesture the eyes of Stavel begin to glow with a blue light. The half-elf's piercing eyes sweep Grigory from head to toe.
The others nod, as though listening to unspoken comments. Then they all turn their eyes to the halfling.
"You have a Status spell upon you," says the man called Tim. "That is a divine spell, and it indicates the possibility that you have allies, likely in the vicinity. Is there anything that you'd care to tell us about this?" he asks in a calm direct voice.

Halfling Grigory Tuesday February 9th, 2010 10:40:33 PM
Grigory politely declines any spells or company for his meeting with the Star Mages' Guild.
"Well, ultimately my loyalty lies with these," he says holding out one of his handwritten books. "I live to produce more of these, to procure more knowledge for the Wold. To be brutality honest, I believe that supporting the Crimson's Shields is the best option for me to create some more of these volumes on the Floating City. "But there is more to it than that. There was the Trash Level. My heart, tattered though it is, is directing my head. Though I've tried hard to not permit it to do so. I now feel the Trash Level like an anvil 'round my heart. I have no other friends who have not already stood naked before Gargal. It seems that the closer I come to someone, the stronger my affection for another person, and worse yet, the more romantic feelings I have towards another, the more horrible or sudden their demise. I exiled my heart into a metal box the day I saw my lover eaten by a troll. I stood there, half a mile away, unable to do anything, my arcane powers drained and our group decimated. I stood there and I broke that day. It was two thousand, three hundred and forty-four days ago. "So now I feel obliged to the Crimson's Shields as a way to right some wrongs. It is not enough to gain knowledge to merely fill my books, to fill our libraries and universities. "I will go to the Star Mages, and I will have the Crimson Shields at the forefront of my mind. I would rather die than betray you fore I see that you will do more good for people of the Wold than all my books can achieve."

"Oh, I am a champion of Imod, Tomi or Domi, regardless the name you know him as." He indicates to his small holy symbol around his neck, the button affixed to his chain mail and shows the buckler which shows Domi's hammer symbol crushing Marteaus' profane one. "I have two mortal enemies who I need to destroy before I die. One is the centaur pirate who killed my father in dishonor during a Kayleb and the Captain of the Minions of Marteaus, Vargas... who I believe is a minotaur, but could be anything." The ranger looks at the clouds in contemplation. "When last I saw the foul creature, he was shackled, naked and about to be gutted... but he was summoned away by his cleric wench!" He punches the ground. Then suddenly smiling, he says, "Alemi is good too." He thinks a moment. "Eberyron is powerful and of nature, the Fey King too, and Culverwood are all very powerful beings. I respect power, but not tyranny or oppression."

Syr shrugs and pulls out a coin, "Now I'm not a follower of Ffloy at all but I really have no idea where to take this. How about heads we introduce ourselves to Perimon, tails request an audience with the Overlord?" The elf tosses the coin in the air and watches it spin catching the light as it falls. Bending over, he picks it up, "Tails it is! Well at least we don't have to find him. I know exactly where the Overlord's palace is. Anyone else want to join us?"
"Hey Jass, mind if we stop by the Catacombs on the way? I have some new shoes to pick up." He leads the way to the open air level and the palace.

Jass knows Grigory is telling the truth as the scholar knows it, and it makes the human a little (ashamed? naw, couldn't be) at the tweaking and joking he has done. "Yeah, when all is said and done, it is those people who need protecting most deserve it. You're a black handed packmate, dude."
And Jass lets Grigory and Brahmah go on thier way without a worry.
For Syr, the sorcerer just shrugs and follows where the elf wants; first to the Catacombs, and then to the Office of the Overlord.

Halfling Grigory Wednesday February 10th, 2010 6:27:11 PM
Thank you Belkior.
"Yes, of course I have allies. I thought you would have known that. It is something that I struggle with at times, but these people care for me. You can see that I have Status cast upon me. My friend thought it a good way to be there for me, if I was in trouble. There is no scrying attached to it, he merely knows if I suffer injury. I figured it wouldn't hurt, but I also can't see the point. If you wanted to hurt me I would've been insulted by Gargul in his lands many times over before my friend could do anything about it. And so I am being very careful to not stub my toe or jamb my thumb lest the caring friend comes barging in."
Grigory looks to take a seat for himself, to relax. The chairs are all human sized. "I've returned knowing full well that I couldn't evade four Disintegrates. What I am truly interested in is Knowledge. I've spent my life compiling what knowledge I can into my own volumes, and I actively seek out further knowledge. That is why I am here in the Big Float. Your offer so far seems to be too good to be true." The halfling sits right back in the chair, and he appears to even be 'lounging'. He speaks quickly and nervously of his feelings; "I must confess that my heart now guides me too. I hope (foolish though it is to listen to hopes) that Knowledge can improve the lives of the ordinary people. I want to believe that this very structure has the power to change the fortunes of those who abide in the Trash Level. Irrational, I know, but I am learning to live with it. I tried to shut it out, lock my heart away, and yet it is stronger and more powerful than I ever imagined." Sitting up again, he shuffles to the very front of his seat, poised and expectant. "So, this is the part where we negotiate a deal. Clearly we've managed to skip the ice-breakers and the getting-to-know-you, and the part where you kill me. So we must, therefore, be up to Negotiation."

The Facilities of the Star Mages - DMAl Wednesday February 10th, 2010 8:21:38 PM
Again, without speaking, the five Star Mages appear to converse.
"If you'd like to dictate terms now, Master Halfling," the man called Tim says, "then please feel free. But I suggest that you wait until after we show you what it is that we can offer you. You ... " he pauses for the briefest of moments, " ... and your allies."
The Wizard Tim leads Grigory to the back of the shop. The rest of the mages remain in the front room. Grigory follows Tim down an narrow hallway past two or three doors to one that opens to the right. Tim opens the door and motions the halfling through before following, and closing the door behind them.
The pair come through the door and into a large well lit stone corridor. The walls and floor are of a smooth white marble, unlike anything one would expect in the small cramped shop. The corridor appears to go on forever, and it is lined with doors, some open, many not.
"As you can probably guess, we are no longer on Floating City, says Tim. "I won't tell you where we are, but I will show you some of the facilities that we have available here."
One door opens onto a forest. One might think one's self outside, save for the stillness of the air, and the sight of giant panes of glass that can be spotted through the leaves of the trees if one were to look up. The sound of a waterfall comes from somewhere nearby. Arranged comfortably on a stone dais in the middle of a clearing, is some large overstuffed furniture and an oval table surrounded by twelve chairs.
Another door opens onto what can only be a library. From a round central atrium, corridors branch in all directions, and through the door onto each corridor can be seen books, manuscripts, periodicals, tablets, and artifacts of knowledge of all forms.
Tim opens another door for Grigory and the pair are witness to the sight of a titanic battle. Four wizards are engaged in a combat with what appears to be the tail end of a troupe of abyssal demons. Seven demons already lie prone upon a blasted landscape of black and red stone. A green beam of light shoots from the hand of one mage, disintegrating an eighth demon, while the three others gang up on a ninth, felling it with both magic and blade.
Nearby, a fifth man stands next to an odd lectern upon the face of which are various colored buttons. As the last demon falls, he touches one of the lights, and the entire landscape disappears to be replaced by plain white walls. "Well done," the man says to the four fighting mages. "But you allowed them to act before you did. Protective spells are fine, but sometimes a strong initial offense ... " Tim closes the door and moves on.
There are other rooms. Dining halls and sleeping porches, lounging rooms and bed chambers. Oddly enough, they encounter few other Star Mages during the tour. Either the place is underpopulated, or the rest of the Star Mages have been warned of their coming.
"Well, what do you think of the things that we may place at your disposal? Do you think it worth and alliance? Do you have any questions?" asks the mage who men call Tim.
Meanwhile, the other Crimson Shields decide to petition the Overlord for a hearing.

Halfling Grigory Thursday February 11th, 2010 5:30:39 PM
Picking his jaw up from the ground the halfling turns his wide eyes back towards Tim the Enchanter. "..." He stands a moment unable to speak. "..." Overwhelmed by this dreams-come-true moment he instead walks along another two doors and gestures the question may I open this one? He cautiously opens it exactly 2 inches. Peering in with one eye he scans about the interior. Revelation comes, and he opens the door enough to stick just his head through. He squints to make out details in the distance, for he is peering down a long well lit stone corridor. The walls and floor are of a smooth white marble, unlike anything one would expect in the small cramped shop. The corridor appears to go on forever, and it is lined with doors. In the distance he can just make out a human in robes standing near a halfling who is half leaning into an open door. "WOW!" he calls out, the faculties of speech suddenly returning in full volume, and oddly enough he can hear his own voice from much further up the hall. Grigory pulls his head back quickly and looks up the hall, hoping to see his own head sticking out. He tries again. And again. Eventually his mind works and he gives up on the idea. "I'll take it!" he loudly exclaims to Tim. Then, calming down somewhat, "What I mean by that is: So what's in it for me? I mean 'you.'" He takes a deep breath and carefully articulates each word so as to state it correctly: "What is it that you would ask of me?"

Corvis still thinks it's a good idea to send Jass out to see what Jass might beable to gleam from the people.
While at the apartments Corvis also eyes the chair that was moved in sometime ago, wondering about the large ocerstuffed thing as the owner of it seemed quite taken with it.
