Travel to the Gateway Downs (DMSteveK) Wednesday January 27th, 2010 10:50:42 AM
Torgon is antsy about getting to his village after the Message, but there is one last thing to do. Using the Ring of Wishes, the group tries to get all negative affects removed from Xenia. The rogue-girl feels much better, but her Chaos Tattoo continues to not function.
2 Negative Levels removed from Xenia. Chaos Tattoo non functioning
Durgan picks up the stone ball and does not get any affect; it appears the Stoneshape solution is working! However, when he attempts to put it in his Bag of Holding, the stone ball refuses to budge. Other other-dimensional modes of storage are equally futile. It appears that the Silver Cube will remain within this dimension of the Wold.
This doesn't deter the dwarf, and Durgan hefts the 50 pound ball and sets off with the rest of the Children of Chaos.
........................
While in Hook City, the CoC have also discovered that Hook City is aligned in a different cardinal direction than when it was prior to the Great Migration. What used to be north is now West. The River bisecting Hook City now runs north and south, and is not really a river anymore, but a channel that connects to an ocean north and south of the city. Still, Hook City has its traditions, and NorthHook is still called NorhHook and SouthHook is still called SouthHook, even though NorthHook is now "West" of SouthHook.
.......................
AND SO... from Block 542 on the east bank of Labor Town, the Children of Chaos march west and take passage on a ferry to NotrhHook. Ascending the banks of the channel, the CoC get on the Marble Causeway and head west through NorthHook to the main gates of Hook City.
On the Marble Causeway, it is crowded with people, mostly hurrying to or from the Bridge where all the biggest merchantizing takes place. Statues, administration buildings, barracks, and temples line the Marble Causeway. Often along this procession, people wave, cheer, and call encouragement to the Children of Chaos. Children occasionally hold up a rag doll of Firn'gaer, or Trace, or Peerimus and Yorrick. Street vendors press fruit, or small bags of nuts, or a covered mug of ale into the heroes hands. At the Society of the Great Migration, a stir is caused when everyone in thier foyer runs out to line the Marble Causeway and chant "Jur-Gen, Jur-GEN, Jur-GEN!!!" Opposite the noisy chanters, Katt and Amber sit on a ruined column of the Lost Temple of Mittri. Catching Peerimus' eye, Katt nods and rolls her eyes while Amber winces at the noise.
It seems the accomplishments of the Children of Chaos are now well known to the people of Hook City.
At the Gate, the guards clear the entranceway for the Children of Chaos like they would do for a high city official. "Give em what fer!" calls one guard as the heroes pass through the clean marble and granite gateway and into the dirty unpaved shanty town of MudTown.
Mud Town hasn't changed much since the last time the COC have passed through. Rough and crude, it is made up of people waiting to get into HookCity and those who aren't prestigious (or rich) enough to get through the gates. Safety here is dependant upon alert friends who are good with thier weapons. Sitll, the Children of Chaos have no trouble walking the main muddy road west. Many stop and watch, some nodding in acknowledgement that the heroes are known even here, but the obvious displays of enthusiasm and wealth are not around. It is too easy from openly showing favoritism or a possession to become an enemy ... or a target.
Torgon AC: 30, HP: 169/169 Wednesday January 27th, 2010 2:14:20 PM
Torgon follows along, amazed and discomforted by the throngs of people stepping forth to cheer on his new companions. "What have the Gods gotten me into he wonders to himself" as he does his best to move through the crowds.
He does his best to speed things along, worried about his people. During the times that he easily knows the direction that they are going, he takes the lead, and puts an angry glare upon his face, hoping the sight of a angry Minotaur will clear most folks from blocking their way.
Torgon though, follows along and stays with the group, sure that they understand his hurry, and likewise sure that he could not arrive at home more quickly without them.
Rash Wednesday January 27th, 2010 4:33:06 PM
Rash grins at the attention glad that she isn't as famous as the others being relatively new to the Children of Chaos. She wonders why she was fated to become a member and what the Crones have in store for her. She gets a bit more depressed at Mudtown wondering why the Wold could be so cruel to folks. Still her mood brightens as they march along. It is good to be moving again, with a goal.

FREE! Maybe she's free! Those are the thoughts that roll through her head as the rogue reaches up and, in a lithe cat-like way, stretches to the sky. The Tattoo is silent. It's shaken loose. Maybe she could go home now.
*skip*turn*kick* The slim girl dances along as the group of Chaos Guys make their way through the streets of North Hook. She waves at the friendly folks, flashing perfect white teeth in her dark drow face. Maybe now she could go home. Her green eyes sparkle.
After this, she'd ask Peerimus if he could take her home. The place would be there still on Merchant Level. It would have to be. She'd find Wynn. Unless ... A frown draws a cloud over her gleeful expression. Unless he's found someone else. Would he find someone else? How long has she been gone? He could have anyone he wanted. She would have to go home soon. Just this one more time. Go with the Torgon and help him with his village. How long could that take?
When Xenia looks up from her musings, they're already out in the Mud Town Place. Just this one last time to help these Chaos Guys out, and she would ask to go home.

"Hummph. I don't see any Durgan or Kazak action figures. See where we rate, durned toymakers."
Durgan plods along, the weight of the stone slowing him down no more than his bulky armor already does. He smiles as he considers how much fun it would be to bash an orc with this heavy ball of stone. With that thought he whistles an old dwarven work tune as the group marches through town.

As he marches thru Hook City .... Kazak thoughts wander ....to those in the crowd " wonder how dey knew we be marching ...." ..... but then he spots the several kids holding action figures of the CoC ....and hears Durgans remark ....
"Heh bro .... what your action figure look like ... would ya be holding a mug of ale ?? hehehe " .... as Kazak quickly steps away from his older brother ... knowing a ounch to the shoulder would follow if he wasnt quick enough ....
" we're knew here ... dem action figures are for da long time members of da group .... no doubt you'll git one too "
" me i'm not worried about it ... just gonna do ma best to be a protecter 823 member " ... growls the dwarven warrior

Peerimus keeps a hand on Yorrick, though he did not think the big bear would get overly excited and eat someone, just better safe than Garguled. "Thank you," he seems to find himself saying repeatedly as he accepts a small gift of nuts or a piece of fruit here and there. He glances over at a few of the others and very suddenly finds himself chuckling as the chant of Jurgen begins. His mood light, the druid also decides the opeing is too great to resist. "Worry not Durgan, I'm sure we can get you a doll when we we return."
In Mud Town...
Travel to the Gateway Downs (DMSteveK) Thursday January 28th, 2010 1:49:54 PM
The CoC continue thier march west. Halfway through Mud Town, the afternoon rains come in. People grumble and push hoods up and heads down to go about thier business in the watery mud. "Durned Hook City.." or its like is a comment heard more than once.
An hours walk leaves Mud Town (and the rain) behind, and the heroes find themselves on a spit of land that connects Hook City to the forested hills and dales and downs of Gateway Downs. Walking west, another hour brings the heroes underneath the first trees on the lowest slope. Looking back, the shining jewel of Hook City sits in the waters of a blue ocean. Sails are seen north and south as merchants and other boats ply thier trades. Beside the heroes, the new Hook City Road is being built, working to connect the city of magic with the network of roads through Gateway Downs.
Further down the coast, one of the hills lifts into the air with a rumbling sound! Holding about 100 feet in the air, a startled deer stands at the edge of the airborne hill as it rapidly flies south! (Firn'gaer Highlight to display spoiler: {The mage can see the hill is surrounded by Overwhelming varied magic.}
The engineer working on the road looks up and then over at the Children of Chaos. "Not to worry gents. Things like that have been happening occasionally since the Great Migration. Funny that its happening more and more often, though..."
Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Thursday January 28th, 2010 5:54:04 PM
The Mud City place reminds the rogue of Trash Level, 'cept it's not so closed in. She wonders, idly, why folks stay in such places. But, then again, a home is a home no matter how terrible it may seem to others. And, when that's all you got, maybe you hold onto it pretty tight. Funny idea - she shakes her head - since the nice rolling hills of the Downs Place are just a short walk nearby.
The flying mountains are different. But, then again, everything's kinda different in this Southy Continent Place. Xenia decides not to be phased by it. Maybe it's just sump'in that happens down here. The road crew guys don't seem too excited.
"Umm ... yeah. Nice flying mountains," she says, before launching into preparations for arrival at Torgon's Taur village. "So, Torgon, I notices that the ... um ... Momma Mino in the magic sending said that they had *more* movement in the hills. That says to me that you had less movement in the hills before, and that this less movement was maybe of concern to your folks a'cause of what was making this lesser movement, am I right?"
"So, could you tell us a little bit about what we might be looking at when we get there? And maybe couldja tell us a bit about your village too? How many Minos they got there? I mean, is it a big village? You got lotsa guards and fighter types? They got an inn? How many temples? They got cottage industry? You know, that sorta stuff."

Rash feet are hurting and her legs are sore and she is getting grumpy. She isn't used to this much walking anymore and has gotten spoiled with all of the teleportation magic available to her. "This is all Angus's fault! He got me used to teleporting around! Now he is off being his normal lazy self and I am marching down the road!"
Rash kicks a lose stone and then looks up in alarm when the mountain goes soaring by, "I guess I am happy that I haven't bought to much property. You never know who your neighbors might be tomorrow!"
Torgon AC: 30, HP: 169/169 Friday January 29th, 2010 9:24:42 AM
Torgon stares at the hill flying off, and is thankful not to be on it. "Seems like this migration thing might be going a little overboard"
He responds to Xenia "I had thought the same thing. But when I left I had scouted the area and there had been no movement, so I do not know what it might be. The other thought that comes to mind with what just flew off, is that the hills themselves are moving. I would think that if they knew what it was, they would have likely mentioned it."
Torgon then goes on to tell Xenia about his village,(Not wanting to make it up, and mess up the DM, I will let him describe it if he so wishes since I don't really know. DMSteveK: Isn't that sweet of him? :-)
Torgon Talks About His Village (DMSteveK) Friday January 29th, 2010 1:15:29 PM
"Torgon provides his story to Xenia and the other members of the Children of Chaos as the group watches the hill fly out of sight. There is some time to talk while the mages and clerics of the group get ready to teleport to Torgon's village of Taur. According to Archimedies' information, now that the group is in the Gateway Downs, they should be able to teleport to Taur.
It is a sobering thought that the CoC initiated the Great Migration that was not like a dropped pebble that fell to earth and was still. No, it seems that the Great Migration is a leak in a dike, where the water continues to pour until it is sealed up again. And the water washes the opening larger moment by moment...
But to teleport to Taur, the spellcasters need to know about the village, and Torgon supplies the knowledge of his lifetime.
............
Taur is an all-minotaur village that for years uncounted has nestled peacefully in a high alpine valley. Village legend has it that during a time of great cataclysm, the minotaur were plucked from certain death and brought to this place. There has been the very occasional peddler, bard, or long-range adventuring party who have penetrated the mountains, but for the most part, the minotaur have lived a life alone. Through these visitors, the minotaur have learned they were in a region called the Gateway Downs, and the mountains are called the Gray Divide. They know of the Powers of the Southern Continent and that there is a wide Wold out there, but are mostly content to live in their insular community.
Four months ago, the Great Migration came. The mountains heaved and buckled. Great stones came crashing down on the village. And then an entire mountaintop slid to cover the valley. Before this certain destruction, a glowing ball of gold surrounded the village! When the ball of light vanished, the land about the minotaur village had changed. Instead of being nestled in the mountains, the village is among wooded hills.
Torgon, as the Protector of the village (chosen by Kayleb ceremony) spoke with the Elders and has gone out to investigate the new area for enemies and allies. He cast a Divination and received the Broken Spiral Tatoo and these words...
"To the East there lies a town on hill Inhabited by races of independent will Enslaved of will to others are they But children will strive to break their sway Seek these out with like design Prove will they to Taur benign"
Torgon then talks about his village. There are 265 adult minotaur in Taur, and about half that number in children and adolescants. The village was so named because after the first Cataclysm, they thought they were the only minotaurs left in the Wold.
They build sturdy homes with stone and wood and have no walls or fences save for animal stock and the vineyards. Each family is self-sufficient for their needs, and the village comes together for large projects. Some taur are better skilled than others in wine-making, or weaving, or pottery; and so they barter with each other in work and goods. The very few times they had visitors, the strangers were housed with families or in their own wagons or tents.
Temples? The most important Power is Imod who protects through strength and hard work. The holy ground of Imod is the Kayleb arena adjacent to the Elder House.
For warriors, every adult minotaur is a warrior with their own armor and weapons. They all have had training at the Kayleb and by the Protector. The Protector is a special position that often leaves the village to take care of further dangers before they become close.
The six Village Elders make any decisions that affect more than three minotaur. They meet at the Elder House which is the largest structure in the village. All Elders are considered equal, with no one having veto or executive power. The three most important Elders (in Torgon's opinion) are:
Torbrah, the youngest Elder. Past bearing age, her muzzle is white, but she still moves with a sultry grace that catches the eye of young bulls. She is in charge of the village welfare.
Tunderhuf, Torgon's own teacher and former Protector of the Minotaur. His body is long since gone weak with age, and stooped with ache, but the eyes and mind are still the same vibrancy of youth.
Imodtor, is another old bull but still with the vigor of limb. He is in charge of the work outside the village border; logging, hunting, herding and the like.
The last person that Torgon mentions is a young cow named Sifthorn. Using speed and aggressiveness, she won her Kayleb and is now his apprentice Protector.
Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Friday January 29th, 2010 5:34:50 PM
"Alright. Sounds like you live in a nice place, Torgie. Peaceful-like." Doesn't sound like too terribly difficult a trip. Go to Taur. Check to see if Torgon's Mino Folks are alright. Come home.
Stopping the migrating mountains, on the other hand, sounds like it just ain't gonna happen. Not unless they stumble onto another talking ring like the one Peerimus said they found under Turtle Lake. Or unless Alemi magics them up in a dream and tells them how the Holding Down the Mountains thing is supposed to be done. Right now they got nothing to go on. Nothing!
"So, Peerimus, you're thinking this Cube Thingee is opposite the Bell Thingee and sump'in's gotta happen a'fore all the mountains settle down? I mean, that makes as much sense as anything, but what is it we gotta do? We brought the Bell to the center of things, right? Do we bring the Cube there too? Or, do we go the opposite way? I mean, like, to this Edge place you're talking 'bout?"
The rogue shakes her head. Yeah, alright. Might as well just take things one at a time. First stop, Mino Village. Next stop? Who knows?

Peerimus AC 41 HP 99/112 and Yorrick AC 43 HP 147/160 Friday January 29th, 2010 7:41:12 PM
Peerimus listens to Torgon's tale and reasons they should be able to teleport there or if not at least they could return to Wayfarer, The city on top of the Hill. Torgon made his way overland to Wayfarer, it should be easy enough for him to backtrack home. "So can we teleport now or will we not have the spells until morning? I can transport many, but not all of us."
"I was not so much thinking we had to bring the cube to the opposite of the center Xenia, though that would fit well with the diametric opposites we are working with. No I was simply following up on the lead from the bard we met in Hook that told of a tale that one could here the answer to any question shouted over 'The Edge' of the Wold. I do think that destroying the Formian Queen is what restarted the Migration. Smaller sections of moving land is significant enough to have made the tales of the Great Migration and certainly Lhari would have knowlegde of such events had they happened in the last Migration. Also smaller land movement does not fall into the notion of the Powers using the Great Migrtion to save the Lands of the South and I for one believe the Powers wish to do just that."
If the Firngaer and Rash have a teleport, Peerimus gets the group to move via Teleport to Wayfarer and then begin back tracking to Torgons Village

Torgon finishes his story, ready to return home and check on his people.
As he listens to Xenia and Peerimus, he speaks "I can teleport myself and three of you if that makes things easier, but I will admit that there is a chance that my teleport may go awry. It has never happened, but it is possible. I do not wish to wait until morning though, and can teleport whoever will accompany me now should some of you wish to wait until the morrow."
Torgon decides to cast a sending spell to determine the situation at home while the matter is discussed, and he chooses Tunderhoof, his mentor, as the recipient, and sends the following. "Enroute home. should be there within a day at most. What is the status of Taur, and the nature of the threat."
Rash Friday January 29th, 2010 9:52:21 PM
Rash nods at Peerimus and says, "I have a Greater Teleport available still. I can bring 3 or so as well. I think we should be able to get there without to much trouble. Still I think it might be wise to have Torgon go ahead and announce us. Somehow I don't want a town of minotaurs thinking we are invading or something. That could get sticky fast. Peerimus, why don't you go with Torgon and the rest of us will follow in five minutes."

Durgan pesters Torgon some more. "So your people aren't very familiar with others then? How will they react to all of us?"
Durgan patiently carries the block of stone containing the Cube, waiting for the unpleasant sensation of being teleported. But he resolves not to complain about it this time.
The Village of Taur (DMSteveK) Sunday January 31st, 2010 7:47:18 PM
Between Rash, Firn'gaer, and Torgon himself, the Children of Chaos are able to teleport simultaneously to the entrance of the village of Taur. They arrive about 100 feet from the first building. As Torgon said, his people build sturdy. As should also be evident, they build Large. Even a small woodcutters hovel with a loft and lean-to shed beside it is fifteen feet tall, the door being 10 feet tall and several inches thick. Large field stones make up the walls to seven or eight feet before entire logs are laid for the rest of the wall.
A cry of an adoleceant taur warns the village that strangers have arrived, and there are quickly 20 minotaur with hammer, pitchfork, scythe, and flail blocking the road.
"It's the Protector!" one shouts, and the group relaxes. Stepping in front of the group is a young minotaur cow with a spiked chain similar to Torgon's. "You are not a prisoner, are you my teacher? For I will free you quickly if it is so!" Sifthorn looks ready to charge Durgan and Kazak both.
Torgon (and the others) are allowed a quick look around for anything unusual. There are immediately noticeable two things... - In one field, there is a perfect circle 20 feet in diameter of 15 foot tall Sargrass. For those who have travelled to the Sargrass Plains, it can't be anything else. - behind the group by about 20 feet is a blone unkempt human male. He looks up at the village, smiles, and says, "Hi there, I'm Jass of Downs, are you close to..." He looks up at the village, smiles, and says, "Hi there, I'm Jass of Downs, are you close to..." He looks up ... Like a gnomish automaton toy that repeats the same action or words endlessly, the young man does the same...

Active Spells: Longstrider(increases base speed by 10'), duration 18 hrs.
Torgon responds to Durgans continuing queries. "I am unsure how they will react. I am sure there will be suspicion by some, curiosity by others, and a general welcoming by a few. Let us see what transpires. Remember though, they are a strong, proud, honorable people....much like what I have heard of Dwarven clans. Try considering how an outsider would be accepted into the heart of a Dwarven clan, and perhaps that can equate somewhat my friend."
Torgon steps forward and addresses Sifthorn directly, but the crowd in general. "Nay Sifthorn, I am no prisoner. These are my companions, and great warriors each. The Gods themselves directed me to them, and the Gods themselves have marked me as one of them" The Minotaur holds out his arm, showing the tattoo thereon.
"They are known as The Children of Chaos among their peoples" Torgon goes on to name each of the CoC. "They know much of the lands around us, and the peoples in them, and will be great allies to our people. There is much to discuss, and likely much you have to tell me of what has happened, but let us welcome our guests with food and drink as we discuss the matters at hand."
Torgon thinks of mentioning more of what he has seen and heard, most specifically, the existence of other Minotaurs, and that they live in the cities of men. He decides to hold that back for now because it will likely bring forth many questions and great excitement, and is likely something that the village Elders should hear of first.
The Minotaur steps forward and clasps arms with Sifthorn. "It looks like your training has progressed well, sorry I am that I have not been able to be here for it. Let us take our guests and our people to a place more comfortable. We all have many questions."
Torgon turns back and looks at the CoC. "Well, shall we wash the road from our throats while we all get to know each other?" Torgon then takes a moment to let everyone appraise each other, and the Taur to come to grips with strangers at the doorstep of the village.

You can't live your life like every day is a Going to War day. You just can't. That's not a life. So today, the slim half-drow girl wears her flame-red hair unbound, with a dashing red pirate sash at her waist for accent.
"Hi. I'm Xenia." The rogue gives her signature hand wave over and over and over and many times over as introductions are made to the whole entire town. Questions are answered. Most specifically, the rogue's own question as to whether Minos wear pants or not, and the consequences of an answer to the negative. It's going to be difficult to keep the eyes up all of the time. But, with the distractions that now present themselves, maybe that won't be as much of a problem.
"Um ... guys? Guys?" The sharp-eyed rogue points in the direction of the very tall but otherwise very confined forest of grass and the blond guy who keeps repeating like he's somehow stuck in himself and can't get out. "Guys? Weerdo stuff, right over here. Anybody recognize that guy? Sounds like he's from here. 'Nless there's another Downs Place 'side from this."
Applying her keen eyesight once again, the rogue peers into the grass, watching for any odd movement or any otherwise hidden stuff.

Peerimus takes a quick look around as well. [Spot 26] Most of his attemtion is taken in by the quickly assembled defensive force, not that the druid is concerned, but 20 minotaurs does gather one attention. Deferring to Torgon, Peerimus nods at his introduction, "Well met villagers of Taur. It is as Torgon says and we are here in friendship as Torgon recieved a message that returning was in the villages best interests."
Peerimus is not overly comcerned about the Sawgrass, but the blinde man does give him pause. "Firngaer, could your enhanced sight lend assistance to Rash please, perhaps it is an illusionary greeting. the land upon the activation area plucked from somewhere to here." Turning to the Taurs, he asks his own question on the matter. "Has 'he' or it been here long?"

Firn'gaer feels like an ant among giants when he arrives at the Village of Taur. The taurs of this village act similar to those Firn'gaer is familiar with in the Northern Continent.
"I will see what I can find out." He says.
Firn'gaer will look at the Jass of Downs with his magically enhanced sight. He looks for any enchantment or other magical effect that may be affecting him.

The dwarven warrior waits patiently ... as the minotaurs swarm around the group ....unsure of what/who they are ..... but Torgon takes care of that as he explains that he is with friends ....
Smiling at the young minotaur Sifthorn ..... " you are as brave and fearless as Torgon has described you ... "
Kazak looks about as introductions are made .....taking in the sights and scences of the village of Taur ...when the unkempt male speaks .... the dwarf adds to Peerimus .... " that name sounds familar ....haven't we heard of dat name recently ?? ..... Jass .... hmmm "
The Village of Taur (DMSteveK) Tuesday February 2nd, 2010 11:14:11 AM
Introductions and Torgon's endorsement of the varied group called the Children of Chaos quickly deflate any potential situation. Sifthorn is proud of Torgon's compliments and fairly beams at Kazak's assessment of her prowess. "I have been trying to maintain the defense of Taur since the Protector went east. We are all a little jumpy about the land and people who have been popping in and out of the area."
While introductions are going on, Rash and Firn'gaer take a closer look at the 'stuck' man. It is easily seen that he is a mage of some sort, a member of the weasel family sitting on his shoulders. Firn'gaer's arcane sight determines that 'Jass' is some sort of illusion-like magic. The gnomes great knowledge in arcane lore allows him to come up with the most probable explanation. Firn'gaer speculates that some magic caught 'Jass' in mid-sentence, and what's standing in front of Taur is a magical 'after-image', like the lights in your eyes after looking at the sun. What this means.....
Taking the guests of Taur to a place to refresh themselves and allow the Elders to hear news first becomes an immediate mission for Sifthorn. The other villager minotaurs move aside. It seems that they are a very orderly society who take thier customs seriously!
In short order, the Children of Chaos is in the Elder House reclining on Large overstuffed pillows and carpets. Water bowls for washing travel dust off of hands, feet, and face were by the entrance, and here are flat bread, herb infused oil, a bowl of some vegetable/yogurt concoction, and another bowl of a light brown paste with rich, nutty flavor. Amphoras of amber and ruby wines are all about to drink, and the guests (with Torgon and Sifthorn) are left alone for nearly a half hour so they are able to relax.
Once immediate guesting requirements are satisfied, another minotaur arrives. White of muzzle, she still exudes a vibrant enjoyment of life that less refined people might term 'sex-appeal'. She bows in greeting to the guests and clasps the forearm of Torgon in greeting. "You are well come to Taur, and well-timed. I know of the divination that sent Torgon forth to find allied children, and am well-pleased that only a tenday has passed to find his return. I am Torbrah."
...............
Soon all the Elders are arrived. They each repeat Torbrah's greeting and settle themselves among their guests, eating and drinking the same food and wine. Talk flows freely, the CoC telling of thier meeting with Torgon and the situation since, and the Elders telling of the events in the week + that Torgon has been gone. The air is as a conversation where the Elders make comments as to what they have seen. None of them ask any questions.
"It was seven day ago", Tunderhof begins, "when the skinny human Jass walked out of the hills and up to our village. He had only begun to speak to me when a flash of light left him in the state you see know. Unusual."
Another Elder speaks. "I have seen earth and chunks of rock flying as the birds do in the sky, as if they are migrating from one corner of the land to another."
"I stood in the west field yesterday watching Mordras herd the goats to pasture," speaks up Imodtor after a pause. "Another flash, and the herd and Mordras was gone, with tall Grass waving in its place. It was then I urged the Sending be sent to our Protector."
The Elders stop speaking and go back to eating or drinking. A couple look out of the corner of thier eyes at their guests, but there is no overt questions.
Torgon or anyone with Sense Motive DC15 Highlight to display spoiler: { The Elders of Taur feel it is impolite to ask questions of guests like a torturer grilling his victim. They are awaiting any freely given information because the CoC are guests. }
The Minos are surprisingly - wazza word for it - sophisticated. That's the word. Xenia sits atop a large purple pillow with gold tassels at each corner. Unleavened bread ain't the best thing in the Wold, but with the oil and brown stuff it takes on a whole new taste. It's delicious as you could never really imagine delicious before.
"Migrating stuff is what we do," the girl rogue begins as she eyes the Minos and their polite restraint. "Starting stuff migrating. Stopping stuff migrating. Least that's what I can figure. We keep stuff balanced so it don't fly apart, but it don't mash together either. Keep it so its balanced in a place where normal folks can just live their lives, you know?"
"Leastwise that's what I can figure having these Tattoo Thingies are all about." She strips off her glove and shows the tattoo on the back of her hand, the one that no longer functions as the others do. "I seen 'em do some pretty amazing and magic stuff to help control all this Migration stuff, but sometimes you can't rely on magic powers to do everything for you. Sometimes you gotta do the work yourself."
"We kinda figured this flying land stuff had stopped, and we're kinda confoozled as to why it's still going on. So we gotta give this a think and try to figure it out. And sometimes it helps to have, you know, like, help from other folks. Sometimes we can't think of everything, and, like, getting questions from others can really give us good ideas. You know what I mean?"
Oook. The rogue wanders through an overly long dissertation in hopes of a little subtle sophistication herself. But, in the end, she wonders whether she may have confused things even more. Double oook.
"Um ... anyway ... it was seven days ago when Downs Man got here and began his repeat performance, huh? That was way before we got the Cube, wasn't it? Not sure this is related to the Excess Migration Stuff. The grass and stuff, though. That sounds about right. Just about the time the teleport stuff stopped working."

Torgon addresses the elders. "From what I have learned, it seems that this great migration of people and lands has happened before, and will happen again. It seems to me like it should have stopped, but is continuing, at great peril to all."
"It seems that the Children of Chaos ushered in this migration, and it is likely that somehow they and I must stop it. How to do that, I think we are unsure. We have recovered a cube of great power, one that is very lawful in nature, and one that may have something to do with ending the events at hand. How, why, where, and any other questions I do not know the answer to. Perhaps some of my other friends may have more explanation as to what has transpired, and how to stop it from continuing."
Torgon looks to the other CoC in hopes that they may have more answers than he.

Peerimus takse some bread and puts whatever he can find on it and takes a large bite. he quickly comes to the conclusion that not everything available is supposed to be combined. As polite as he can and with as few chews as possible, he swallows his error and reaches for a glass. "Jass? I cannot recall that name Kazak, but certainly dooes not make it not possible." Peerimus glances about "Anyone remeber a Jass of the Downs?"
The elders finsh thier tales and Peerimus picks up on the pause [Sense Motive 23] "The timelines are close. Is there a way or has a message been attempted to contact Modras." The druid was feeling uneasy at news of this. If a patch of the land from the Sawgrass was here, poor Mondras was likely there and unprepared for the heat the minotaur was almost surely dead. Jass was effectively a dead end. The minotaurs knew nothing about him and a Flash was hardly enough fo even Firngaer's vast knowledge to narrow things down. So what could they do? What could they even ask or offer? The druid was coming up bank and Peerimus disliked it greatly when he could not see multiple options or possible outcomes. Yorrick picks up on his tensing and lifting his head, the great ursine gives a low throaty growl.
Peerimus ignores the bear and continues to stew, another low growl rolls from Yorrick. A pause and Peerimus blinks a few times and casts a side long look at Yorrick and growls back. Yorrick, seeming content again, lowers his head back into his great paws.
He then speaks, "Elder Tunderhof, could you show us as precise as able, from where Jass of the Downs came in from. Also, could you tell us more on the size of pieces of land that you have seen moving? Our observations thus far, have all been realtively small portions of local area. A copse of trees, a hillock and such. Lastly do any legends exist in your history that speak of a place called 'The Edge' or a land where any question can be heard to be answered by shouting it from a cliff?"

A place to start the investigation. I wonder if I can cast a find the path spell, if it could lead us to the source of the troubles. Please excuse me for a second."
Rash stands up, grabs some bread and takes a bite and then moves away and casts augury, asking, "Will casting find the path asking us it lead us to the source of the migration be helpful in finding the source of the all this upheaval?"
The Village of Taur (DMSteveK) Wednesday February 3rd, 2010 10:50:59 AM
The minotaurs do not seem offended by the questions posed by various members of the Children of Chaos. Torgon can tell them that the more' of not asking questions is only to guests in order to make them feel welcome. When the time of guesting is at an end (one day) then the Elders and other minotaur will be much more inquisitive. In the meantime, guests can ask for just about anything and get it.
Imodtor and Torbrah[/b] exchange a few words and gestures (Spot DC 15 to read lips Highlight to display spoiler: { they talk of directions of flying rocks and other phenomenon, but don't see any pattern.}). Imodtor speaks; "I have not seen any pattern to the movement." Torbrah nods in agreement.
Torbrah also speaks of Mondras. "I attempted a Scrying on Mondras using an article of his clothing. All I saw was a watery darkness. I have listed him in Imod's book of remembrance." The other Elders briefly bow thier heads.
Tunderhof nods. "I saw this human come from the north toward our town. The village has had other Noble Races visit from time to time when we were surrounded by the mountains of the Gray Divide, so seeing a single traveller did not raise much of a fuss."
Another Elder speaks to Peerimus, eyes blurry and voice hoarse from many, many years. "The tales of the days after the miracle of Imod tell of a single human arriving at our village. She said she was a cleric of a Power of Five Crones. She explained to the ancestors of the lands and legends of the Southern Continent. Part of her knoweldge mentioned a great cliff where one could hear the echo of any question, answer, or event that has occured in the Wold from the time when there was only Jericho until the present moment." He pauses to order his thoughts and strength. "I am a seeker of the stars, and have long known this Wold is a flat disk with a great Woldian Space above us. If the ancient cleric's words and your words are speaking of the same, then it stands to reason that this Edge Cliff is the Edge of the Wold." He pauses once more. "And reason stands that if we are on a Southern Continent and you seek the closest Edge of the Wold, you must therefore travel South."
The eldest Elder mutters something more to himself. (Spot DC 25 for Read Lips while mumbling Highlight to display spoiler: { "Why do they not teach these young calves logic these days?"}

"Ummmm ... Looks like we have to go south, huh?" says the slim girl atop the fat purple pillow.
"What I don't get is, if this Edge Place answers any questions - any questions at all - how come it's not more famous and crowded with, well, you know, folks with questions? Free answers! I mean, you know how much you could make in gold klinkies if you just set yourself up an inn there? And that's just an inn to cater to the folks traveling there to ask the questions!"
She folds her skinny arms and frowns. It's a frown of concentration. It's a deep thinking frown, a scheming frown. It's a frown that brightens as her ideas all come together.
"You know, I got lotsa questions. LOTS! And that's just me. You know how much you could sell answers for? Do you have any idea? Yeah, you guessed it." Xenia beams. "LOTS!"

Staying the night will allow our spell users hone their spells less for combat and more for information.
Peerimus if you could turn yourself into a hawk and do a sweep of the land towards the south, it might give us an indication on which direction to go. We need to remember though that this cliff was once to the south, but it could be to the north now with the great migration. Still doing an sweep up high, could tell us what to expect for terrain."
Sleeping at Taur (DMSteveK) Thursday February 4th, 2010 1:32:21 PM
The Eldest smiles indulgently at Xenia's excitement. "Ah, but the length of a journey and the dangers encountered can dissuade many. This Edge is only a story to us, a story far, far away. And like all stories, what is legend may be different than what is fact. I do not think you will get many to travel to your Inn to get thier questions answered." He smiles and catches his breath and thoughts. "Then again, those who are desperate may be willing to do desperate things."
The Elders soon invite the CoC to relax in a house made up for them, and ask them to break thier fast with the Elders in the morning to see if any more knowledge is found.
The CoC have the rest of the afternoon and evening to themselves for any actions they may want to do.
The house that the minotaur provide for the heroes is a recently built one with brand new furniture. Torgon can tell his new friends that the house was built in preparation for a marriage next season. Until the wedding happens, the home remains vacant with the bull and cow living with thier parents at night and working on thier home in the day.
This makes the house very convienient for guests as long as they are of Large size. All the furniture, the steps, the wash-house, the water pump... everything is Large size. It makes most of the CoC feel like the children of thier names, and Firn'gaer is nearly doll size!
Food is brought for dinner, and bedding for sleep. The CoC otherwise are left alone and free to move about.
....................
Firn'gaer can look at the 'ghost' of Jass and tell that he is a mage of some sort. He isn't dressed in heavy travellers attire and is fairly well groomed, so it stands to reason he didn't come from a real wilderness area.
Peerimus tracks Jass back north until his footsteps disappear a couple miles north on a hill that can see Taur. Getting out the map of Gateway Downs, Peerimus can speculate that about 40 miles north of where he is is a crossroads town that links the roads to Wayfarer, Cliffport, and Heranmar. This 'Jass' character could have come from any of those locations.
ooc: I did a name search in CoC archives. 'Jass' has not been mentioned before on the CoC Board or Giggling Ghost. If the name is familiar, must be just some deja vu. :-)

Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Thursday February 4th, 2010 3:34:40 PM
"Well yeah." The rogue tosses the comment to the winds on the heels of the Elder Minos skepticism. "That's the way with magic stuff, now isn't it? It's also the way with things that seem too good to be true, doncha think?"
"I mean, if it were really just what we think it's supposed to be, doncha think that every major government power would have their spies down there answering questions all the time? Major trading houses. Powerful guilds. They got the money and the stuff to send folks down there, and they got the need to know stuff too."
"Sounds kinda not too likely, huh? But, in the short time I've been with these Chaos Guys, I can tell you, they do a lotta kinda unlikely stuff. If you know what I mean. I'll tell you, though, if this works out, I got a lotta questions of my own to ask." She includes Durgan in this. "A lotta questions."
"Um ... say ... " Xenia dips a bit of the flatbread into the brown stuff again. " ... could you give me the recipe to this stuff? What's it called?"
"What's for dinner?" the rogue asks when Torgon suggests remaining for the night. Then she frowns in thought again. "Isn't South still left of the sun?" she says. "I mean the sun and the moons go from there to there." With a finger she draws a big arc across from one end of the room, up to the ceiling and down to the opposite wall. "If you face yourself to the place they both go down, then South is to the left. That's not gonna be different even with the lands move around and such. Right?"
And if the Edge of the Wold is at the edge of the Wold, it doesn't matter where South is, a'cause no matter which we we go, we'll reach the edge anyway. Right? South is just the closest edge."

Peerimus tells the elders "About 40 miles north, is is a crossroads town that links the roads to Wayfarer, Cliffport, and Heranmar. You will find allies and trade in both Heranmar and Wayfarer."
"I agree Rash, A little topside view could do wonders." With that Peerimus shifts into a Huge Air Elemental and moves to a height of nearly 1,000' for a look around. The Wold rolls out down below him and he is thoroughly enjoying himself. Mother painted a great day and with the others having a few things to keep them busy, Peerimus takes his time.
Eventually he comes back down, locates the others and prepares to move out. "I suspect the Edge is not as simple as walking a straight line until out run out of land. Morning: or, If the Mohammed Won't Come to the Mountain... (DMSteveK) Friday February 5th, 2010 9:56:45 AM
Xenia takes up a good exposition on what "South" is in the Southern Continent.
Durgan takes a look at defenses and tool-making in Taur. The village is unusual in that there is no wall. Spaces between houses are taken up by fenced in truck gardens or animal pens. It seems that the minotaur themselves provide the biggest dissuading of attack. For tool-making, there is a brother and sister team that does woodworking and blacksmithing respectively. They also have a vegetable garden and a herd of goats to be self-sufficient. They welcome Durgan into the shops and soon are talking techniques. There is no better way to a craftsmans heart than talking work with another craftsman!
Rash provides minor healing to some villagers and ensures the CoC are fully healed up. She goes to bed thinking of spells for divination.
Kazak speaks to his Broken Spiral Tattoo which doesn't talk back.
Peerimus does an aerial recon of the Village, similar to what Torgon had done the first day of Taur's arrival in this new location. The village is nestled in the Gray Downs almost exactly in the middle of a triangle between Wayfarer, Crossroads (the town to the north) and the Gray Tooth Mountains. While still isolated from the greater population of Gateway Downs, the village of Taur is much more accessible than before the Great Migration.
.....................
Night falls and morning comes. The Children of Chaos (and the village of Taur) complete thier morning rituals and refreshments. Torbrah is with the CoC to lead them to the Elders for a formal blessing of Imod upon thier journey when the sun is blotted out of the sky!
A mountain is floating in the air and coming towards the village! Pondorously, majestically, it moves, passing only 50 feet above the ground and making it seem like the entire village is in a cave. Firn'gaer can see through his Arcane Sight a cacophonic non-pattern of multi-colored lights strobing around the granite roots of the mountain.
Someone screams. Children begin to cry. Sifthorn stands with her spiked chain in her hands, but helpless against a million tons of rock.
Feeling like forever, but in less than 10 breathes, the mountain passes over the village until light streams back down from the morning sun.
Firn'gaer has time only to call out; the magic is gone from around the mountain! And then the earth heaves as the immense mountain falls just east of the village. DC25 Reflex or fall prone BOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!
The rogue's timing and superior reflexes catch the earthwave as it slams by beneath their feet. She rides the crest of the impact, letting it take her up into the air where she activates her winged boots just as terra firma drops out from under her feet again.

Peerimus is unceremoniously dumped on his behind along with a grunting Yorrick. The bear scrambles to his feet, not liking or being used to anything being able to take him down. Peerimus however simply sits lookng at the new piece of real estate. His brow furrowed in thought, his hands back to support him and his head slowly turning to one side. It was simply and completely out of his realm. Father, what ARE you up to? Could it have actually happened? Would the Powers have let it? Are they even still in any control over any of theses events or are they mere spectators at this point as well? The Migration was set into motion and that was that. How it actually worked and ended was not in thier make up.
"Rash?" he asks, still having not bothered to get up or really to even move, "I think now might a a good time to speak with the Powers. Is there any control being exercised or could most of us just been killed?"
Kazak Stonewall.(Ac 36(37/w-haste) Hp 163/212) d20+12=27 ; Friday February 5th, 2010 10:38:11 PM
The dwarf stands mouth agape .... as the mountain passes over their heads .... " by the gods what is happening ..... i know we are a force of choas in the wold ..... but this is just .... just ... just ... unimaginable ..... something has to be done .... did we unleash something more then we tought when we started or ended the great migration ??" .... growls Kazak in awe
As the mountain drops to the ground east of the village .... the dwarven warrior braces himself by instict alone ... (d20+12=27 reflex save made it!!) ... barely maintaing his footing ..... he just stares at the new landscape .....
Torgon AC: 30, HP: 169/169 d20+13=20 ; Saturday February 6th, 2010 4:31:27 PM
Torgon watches the immense piece of real estate float over his village, reciting every prayer he can think of until it is safely past. Just when he thinks that it may continue on it's merry way, it falls from the sky. The force of that collapse knocking the minotaur on his behind.
Torgon just sits there, too stunned to even stand. Thinking of what could have been, he then quietly mumbles "We must stop this, and soon, or there won't be anything left."
Rash d20+12=30 ; Monday February 8th, 2010 3:49:08 PM
Rash wakens early and start to pray to the Powers for guidance and direction. She finishes her actions and is taking a walk around the village to clear her mind and prepare to cast them when she sees the mountain float overhead. It comes crashing down next to the village shaking the ground but not causing her to stumble and lose her balance.
Rash shakes her head and starts quickly striding towards the center of the village where others are gathering. She will find Peerimus and say, "We need to find a resolution to this or good people are going to get hurt!
Rash will gather the elders and the Children of Chaos and say, "I am going to commune with the Powers. Feed me any questions you might have. They need to be yes/no answers"
With that Rash casts her spell and starts asking questions
1: Is the mountain falling this morning part of the Great Migration? 2: Do we need to seek the Edge of the Wold or Edge Cliff to end the Great Migration? 3: Is the Edge Cliff to the South? 4: Is the Edge Cliff to the West? 5: Is the Edge Cliff to the North? 6: Is the Edge Cliff to the East? 7: Is the Cube of Law we found while battling the Queen part of the solution to the Great Migration? 8: Is there any being behind the Great Migration guiding the reshuffle of the Southern Continent? 9: Is the migration random? 10: Do we need to battle the force of Law like we did the Fey King? 11: If we do nothing, will the Great Migration End? 12: Going to leave the last 6 questions for others.
A Mountain of Questions (DMSteveK) Monday February 8th, 2010 4:34:19 PM
The shaking earth and the winds from the passage and fall of the mountain subside from the village of Taur. Rocks are still falling from the mountain as it settles in its new location, and it is easy to see from the heroes' vantage point that there are several large-looking caves in the mountainside.
Minotaurs are getting back on their feet, as are cows, goats, and sheep. The village buildings are very sturdy, and though there is evident structural damage, none have fallen in.
Rash begins a Commune spell and begins her questions. Answers form in her head...
1: Is the mountain falling this morning part of the Great Migration? YES 2: Do we need to seek the Edge of the Wold or Edge Cliff to end the Great Migration? UNCERTAIN 3: Is the Edge Cliff to the South? YES 4: Is the Edge Cliff to the West? NO 5: Is the Edge Cliff to the North? NO 6: Is the Edge Cliff to the East? NO 7: Is the Cube of Law we found while battling the Queen part of the solution to the Great Migration? YES 8: Is there any being behind the Great Migration guiding the reshuffle of the Southern Continent? NO 9: Is the migration random? YES 10: Do we need to battle the force of Law like we did the Fey King? UNCERTAIN 11: If we do nothing, will the Great Migration End? NO
Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Monday February 8th, 2010 4:50:20 PM
Still tense and ready for more destruction from the fallen mountain, the rogue quickly blurts out a question when the offer comes from Momma Rash to fill in the last of her questions.
"Will going to the Edge of the Wold help us fix the Migration Thingie?" she shouts, and then snaps her focus back to the mountain, staring at it with a mix of fear and suspicion.

Rash Monday February 8th, 2010 5:34:04 PM
Rash sends a prayer of thanks to the Powers, stands up and then addresses the Children and the Elders. It looks like this kind of stuff (points at the mountain) will keep happening until we end the migration. While the powers didn't answer for certain that we need to go to the edge of the Wold, they didn't say no either. I think we should head south towards the Edge. The powers did confirm that the edge is still in that direction and I can't think of anything else to do.
Sorry Xenia I didn't ask your question before the Powers answered but I think I asked a variant of it anyway. I can pray for the spell again tomorrow if anyone has any more questions they want to ask.
Peerimus, this does seem to be totally random. Their isn't a mind behind things and the cube a law will help us stop the migration. It makes sense that we stop it. It seems like we are going full circle. Do you have any contacts in the natural world which could help or guide us? Maybe you can summon the Crones with the tattoos and get some more clear information which will give us a better direction."
Durgan Stonewall (AC 34; HP 197/239) Monday February 8th, 2010 8:44:30 PM
"Well, at least the durned mountain didn't drop on our fool heads!" Durgan stands there shaking his head in disbelief at the display. If there was any better example of why not to fool around with magic, he couldn't think of one. "I have a feeling, this is gonna be a good story to tell young uns many years from now." Durgan muses. "if we live ta tell about it that is."
Torgon AC: 30, HP: 169/169 Monday February 8th, 2010 9:14:29 PM
Torgon tries to collect himself, and realizes too late a question that should be asked. "We should know if there are any beings within or linked to that mountain that pose a serious threat to my people. If that mountain should hold a civilization of bad guys or monsters of power inside it's recesses, my people could be at risk. I'm assuming we do not wish to take the time to search the mountain, so checking it out with the Gods seems to be the wisest course of action."
"Other than that, it seems we are heading south to put a stop to this insanity. As fast as possible, while there is still a Wold left to save."
Firn'gaer d20+13=32 ; Monday February 8th, 2010 9:24:32 PM
Firn'gaer is in awe of the titanic amounts of magic he is witnessing as the mountain moves effortlessly to its new resting place. He manages to stay on his feet. A task only made possible by the fact he is nearly always flying where ever he goes. After a quick accounting of his person, he does see that he has move a good distance from his previous position.
Firn'gaer does not have anything to add to the list of questions for the Norther Gods. He does wish he could get into the catacombs. He can think of a spell or two that might come in handy right now.
"Caves, huh." he says. "Should we take a look?" He says cursing himself for not having the simple spell that would have allowed him to take a look in the caves without having to physically enter them.
"Rash, my understanding of the southern continent and this migration is very much about maintaining a balance. None of the regions here are as developed as those are in the north. I believe that is by design. I theorize that the forces that formed this land meant that it should never become like the north. These forces, I suspect, pre-date the Gods of the North. Something has moved the scales more out of balance than normal and the system that was in place is now somewhat out of control." "
Now if only we had Faraday. He, or rather it, could help us pinpoint when this node of probability, that we are now tasked with, is located. It would make things a little easier."
Kazak Stonewall.(Ac 36(37/w-haste) Hp 163/212) Monday February 8th, 2010 10:50:35 PM

A Mountain of Questions (DMSteveK) Tuesday February 9th, 2010 12:07:23 PM
ooc: For those interested, the Hook City board DM just posted the COC leaving Hook City and witnessed by the Hook City Heroes. Read thier posts to see a different perspective of CoC, Hook City, and Mud Town. :-)
.............
Rash comes out of her Commune (losing 100XP) and relays her information to the others. It seems that the trail of information points south to the Edge. As Peerimus mentioned, with the good description of the gnome bard, Flik, once the CoC are able to get to the Edge, it should be simple enough to locate the bard ... if he's still alive.
Though it has been 12 minutes since the mountain landed (took 10 minutes for Rash's Commune spell), people are still in shock and awe over the very, very near miss. Boulders on the mountain are still shifting and crashing down, many strewn over the fields between the mountain and the village of Taur.
FIrn'gaer looks suspiciously at the large caves in the mountainside, and Kazak suggests an arial recon before the heroes march or magic thier way south.
And then there is movement at the entrance to one of the caves....
Slithering out is a 60 foot long reptilian monster. The COC know a dragon when they see one, and this one doesn't look happy. Its dull red scales are jewel encrusted on the chest and belly, and it blends into snow white on a rearward crest, furry tail and beard.
"Obsidian!", he calls in a vioce cold as a winter's night that reverberates off the bare mountain walls and is easily heard in the village. "We have the wizards at our door, Prepare!" Two auras glow around the dragon as it makes deep gouges in the rock with its claws.
Another voice is heard hollowly, coming out of the cave behind the Red Dragon. "Yes, FerroKel, we will kill them all and mate on their corpses!"
Torgon AC: 30, HP: 169/169 Tuesday February 9th, 2010 3:55:30 PM
Active Spells: Longstrider(increases base speed by 10'), duration 18 hrs.
"Well, it looks like that answers that question, and I'm not thinking that a couple of very upset red dragons are going to negotiate with us, and move elsewhere."
Torgon turns to Sifthorn. "Get the people to cover my student, and protect them. Our new friends and I will handle this. Should we fail, you will be the final line of defense."
Torgon then turns back to the CoC "Let us take the fight away from the village, so that none end up as collateral damage."
Torgon casts (a spell to be named later after I get home from work) and waits for direction from The Commander(s) of Combat Operations
Rash Tuesday February 9th, 2010 4:06:39 PM
Rash sees the red dragons and looks around in concern at the strong minotaurs knowing that they aren't ready for this challenge. She agrees with Torgon and says, "Torgon is right, we need to move. I suspect that we will need flying magic on the dwarves so they can be effective. Jurgen and Firn'gaer please help them with that if they need it. Buff up and move away from the village! Let go Children!"
Rash will use her quicken rod to cast Resist Energy (fire) and then cast summon monster 8 as her normal action. She will then move out and away from the village and villagers.

"i'll try and draw its attention sa da rest of ya can counterattack da red turkey " ..... growls the dwarven warrior in Peerimus direction
Eyeing the red dragon .... the dwarf shudders a little ... remembering his last encounter with a the lethal blue dragon .... " don't wanna become a chew toy for dis dragon " .....grumbles Kazak
"I'm thinking only one of them dragons is a red one, Momma Rash." Looks like a second wave is indeed coming from the mountain. But this second wave isn't going to be a wind. The rogue's sharp ears miss nothing, and the details of the dragon conversation do not pass her by. "Didja catch the names of them dragons? One's named Obsidian, and obsidian's a stone. It's a *black* stone.
"STOP!!!"
Xenia floats out from behind the building that blocks her from the view of the dragons. Her hands are raised in the air, open and empty.
"WE'RE THE CHILDREN OF CHAOS. I'M XENIA. AND I THINK WE GOT US A MISUNDERSTANDING. WE DIDN'T MOVE YOUR MOUNTAIN HERE! THIS MOUNTAIN MOVING THING IS HAPPENING ALL OVER. YOU CAN SEE IT WITH YOUR OWN EYES IF YOU'D LIKE. I MEAN, WE'RE SORRY THAT YOU'RE MOUNTAIN GOT ITSELF MOVED, BUT IT WASN'T OUR FAULT."
Small and defenseless, the half-drow girl continues to do nothing but talk, speaking common sense to the dragons.
"JUST SO HAPPENS, WE'RE OUT SEEKING TO STOP THESE MOUNTAINS MOVING AROUND," Xenia continues. "WE GOT OURSELVES THE FIRST PART OF WHAT WE THINK CAN STOP IT ALL. AND ... " This part could be the kicker. This could turn things from blood bath to sump'in that might just be good. " ... IF YOUR MIGHTY DRAGONNESS' COULD SPARE THE TIME, WE COULD REALLY USE YOUR HELP."

Peerimus AC 41 HP 99/112 and Yorrick AC 43 HP 147/160 Tuesday February 9th, 2010 9:29:39 PM
Peerimus stands up and listens to the answers that Rash obtains from communing with the Powers of the South. "It would seem our theories on what we must do and where we must go have been verified." Looking to Torgon, the druids apeaks, "I do not know if taking the time..."
He ends midsentence as the great voice bellows from the cave and the dragon emerges, "But perhaps we should take the time." he finishes. "there is a great deal of ground between us and them Kazak, let's not get to carried away here. Loking to Yorrick, Peerimus grunts and growls and from the bear's reaction to him, it does not sem the bear is completely pleased "Sifthorn, my friend will be with you on the final defence of your village. He will go where ever you do." [Handle animal Guard Sifthorn auto success]
Peerimus then casts Freedom of Movement on Kazak, "You won't be my friend."
"I expect at first thier tactics will be much like Ohzone and they will try to fight from the air. Can everyone who needs to close do so?"
Had to hand it to Xenia, the woman was always thinking. A thought then occurs to him, "Obsidian is also a Volcanic rock."

Jurgen - 160/160 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 2:20:53 PM
Jurgen glances around his fellow Children, as if coming out of a deep sleep. He barely recognizes his surroundings and doesn't even seem that concerned about the mountain... Clearly, Jurgne's mind has been other places, but the sight of the dragon is enough to get him ready for action.
He pulls out his sword and throws up a Shield spell on himself. (And, if we're not on round actions yet, Alter Self and he readies a Shield of Faith potion.) "I've no way of making Durgan fly without making him useless with a polymorph. I guess we'll have to clip this dragon's wings first..."

Dragons! round 1 (DMSteveK) Wednesday February 10th, 2010 3:15:53 PM
Torgon tells Sifthorn to get the people to cover. He then suggests that the CoC take the fight away from the village to reduce collateral damage. The minotaur casts Divine Favor with an Extend Rod and retrieves a scroll.
Rash agrees with Torgon, they need to move. The Battle Leader calls out her thoughts, and then uses her quicken rod to cast Resist Energy (fire) and then stands, casting a complicated summon monster 8 spell (ooc: summon spells are full round casting time. Rash is unable to do anything other than a couple free actions; which she did :-)
Kazak activates his Tattoo's Flying ability and is off towards the dragon, grabbing a potion from his haversack as he flies.
Xenia gives a hypothesis on the nature of the dragons, and floats up to call them. Perhaps words will stop the vain monsters from immediately attacking? It doesn't look like her words are much effect on the dragon. (ooc: full round Diplomacy for attitude change is -10 on check. Also, the Diplomacy Table is for Basic DCs. Those DCs could go higher or lower due to situation.)
Peerimus warns Kazak not to get too far away. The druid sends his protesting Companion to guard Sifthorn, and casts Freedom of Movement on Kazak before speculating on dragon battle tactics.
Durgan watches the dragons' reactions and gets his weapons and armor ready.
Jurgen pulls out his sword and throws up a Shield spell on himself.
Firn'gaer doesn't post yet because Rich has a new baby girl! :-)

Feeling the druids magic wash over him ..... Kazak is grateful for its benefits .....remembering Ozhone's lethal claws crushing his life from his body ......
A plan unfolds in the dwarfs mind .... "dem dragons are big and fast ... but dey can't turn as fast as my Tattoo's fly magic "
Using the red dragons speed againist him .... the dwarf waits .....then banks sharply right .... hoping to turn inside of the red dragons turning circle ...as it speeds on by (flys to AV-48) (move action)....
Now its Obsidian turn .....again Kazak lets the dragon close .....using its speed againist it ..... he again banks sharply right ..... but this time adds a twist and dives for the ground .... " Bring em down to da ground ... and it can't manuver as much ...." as he aims for some trees (moves to BA, BB-54)(move action)(5'ft altitude)..... the dwarven warrior hopes that the combination of the dragons speed .... his bank to the right to again get inside of its turning circle .. and the cover of the trees ... will enable the dragons to pass by him ..... so he can turn and fight on better terms .... " hope dis here works "

Then he examines the defenses on the dragons and shouts the spells. "FerroKel has a Mage Armor, Shield, and Displacement. And the ugly one has a Mage Armor. This should be... interesting. [DMing the Gray Knights makes me realize how completely unoptimized for combat Jurgen is. Haha. At this point, he has two classes and two prestige classes. Meet Jurgen the Sorcerer/Paladin/Protector/Eldritch Knight. Oy.]

"You have to be kidding me." He says as the Dragons emerge from the caves. "Dragon, if I were capturing you, don't you think a wizard would be more cleaver in his trap than just moving the mountain without restraining his prize?" He says knowing he is wasting his breath. "You are a victim of the awesome power of the Great Migration, not some misguided attempt by a mortal to capture a dragon. Spare us, at least for the moment, and us mortals can show our worth to dragons."
Firn'gaer casts Grasping Hand at the Dragon that is not displaced. [SR33] The dragons is bound by the large magical hand and finds itself currently at its mercy.

Rash completes her summoning spell and 3 Huge air elementals appear 40 feet in front of the cleric and 40 feet above the ground. She calls to them to concentrate on the lead dragon. Not speaking Auran, the language of Air, the Elementals do not understand Rash's request or tactics. They do, however, immediately attack the closest enemy of Rash to the best of their ability, flying 100 feet towards FerroKel.
Rash then casts a fly spell on herself using the quicken rod once again, and then divine power which kicks off her contingency spell of righteous might. She will then gain 30' of height. (ooc: Yep, all in one round! :-)
Xenia mutters about the sense of dragons, and then shouts her frustration. She begins blinking and melts into the shadows of a nearby building.
Peerimus is free from worrying about Yorrick in an uneven match with two dragons, casts ShapeChange to ready himself for a titanic battle.
Kazak plans to be the lure to bring the dragons to earth. He Readies himself, ready to keep inside FerroKel's turning radius and then dodge Obsidian in order to be behind them both and staying out of range of teeth and claws. Finally, he is ready to streak towards a group of trees for some cover. Neither dragon goes for the dwarf, and his planned gyrations go unused.
Jurgen examines the dragons' spells, and relays them for the others. The paladin then moves a little away and casts Alter Self.
Firn'gaer replies his disbelief to the dragons, they must not be thinking right! The mage casts Grasping Hand at Obsidian, but while it makes contact the large magical hand fails to hold tight to the dragon! (Defensive Grapple DC is 10+Grapple check, therefore the Hand must overcome a Grapple DC 54) ...........................
FerroKel roars a challenge to the approaching Huge Air Elementals. "You claim innocence and strike with magical attacks. I know who to take my vengeance!" The red dragon with a white crest opens his mouth at the elementals. From 200 feet away, the CoC hear the sound of a winter wind that reminds some of them of the Ice Vien from long ago. A cone of ice comes out of the mouth of FerroKel!!! The agile elementals avoid some of the damage, but all are partially caught in the cone of cold.
What is more devastating is the ferocity of FerroKel's attack, and all three are Shaken for a minute.
Kazak, who is close enough, must also overcome FerroKel's Frightful Presence. (Kazak Will DC 26 or be Shaken for 10 rounds)
The dragon then disappears from the sky! Spellcraft DC20 Highlight to display spoiler: { Quicken Greater Invisibility}

Slayers of hatchlings!
Huh? What? Babies?
"Someone's killing your babies?!?! NO! STOP! STOP FIGHTING!" Xenia shoots straight upwards, popping out of the shadows like a dark red-tipped missile. "STOP! YOU CAN KILL ME IF YOU WANT, BUT I'M NOT GONNA FIGHT. I'M NOT FIGHTING WHILE SOMEONE OUT THERE'S KILLING BABIES."
"YOU CAN STOP AND TELL US WHAT'S BEEN KILLING YOUR BABIES, OR YOU CAN KILL ME, BUT I'M NOT GONNA FIGHT!"
She hangs in the air spread eagle. Completely defenseless save for the blinking of her ring, a thing she has not had the time to turn off.

Durgan mumbles something about why the enemies can't sit on the durned ground for him. He follows after Torgon, hoping someone can bring one down to his level. Then he sees Xenia trying to reason with them again. "Fool girl. Every dwarf knows ye can't bargain with an angry dragon, especially one that's lost hatchlings." Durgan hopes she would live to learn the lesson. And that gives him an idea. Durgan sends Xenia a quick thought through the message spell. "Hey girl, mebbe the hatchlings aren't dead? Peerimus Elder Air Elemental AC 31 HP 131/131+76 and Yorrick AC 37 HP 160/160 d20+18=34 ; Thursday February 11th, 2010 11:15:14 PM
Peerimus watches the first volley of tactics on both sides. A cold attack from the red dragon was not entirely unexpected. That it seemed to be a breath weapon was a bit of a shock. Again though, he really knew nothing except the more basic rumors of dragons and what they could do when angered. And here they were in front of 2 very angry dragons. Now there may be the dragon young involved and apparently that is a terribly sore spot with Xenia.
Casting Protection from Energy Fire, Peerimus shifts into an Elder Elemental and rises 100' straight up.
"You speak of wizards and the stealing of your young. You know your home was moved and I tell you it is now within the Gateway Downs and we are not behind any of your recent conflicts. You posses the intellect and wisdom to know what we are saying is true and we have been reacting to your previous announcement. Jurgen - 170/170 Friday February 12th, 2010 2:23:59 PM
Not sure where Torgon stands on the issue, Jurgen's first instinct is to agree with Rash and to go after these dragons. Preferably with as much force as they can muster since dragons don't often present themselves as helpful buddies to the Children.
It's probably for the best that Jurgen can't see FerroKel, since the Displacement would likely just irritate the gish. Thinking that he'd prove a better distraction for this fight, Jurgen throws up a Resist Energy and tries to figure out where he should show up next...

OoC: Tactical idea. Casting a Wall of Force fairly close in front of a dragon in mid flight may cause it to crash headlong into the wall, taking damage and then falling to the ground.
Even were the dragon able to see it, give its poor maneuverability, I doubt it would be able to stop or veer in time.
May be worth considering.

Xenia shoots straight up, making herself a target and shouting to the dragons in hopes of ending the battle.
Kazak senses that this is going to be a hard battle, and wonders about the anger of the dragons. He drinks the potion in his hand, he draws the stone sword of Turak Nor and activates his animated shield, taunting the dragon while hovering in place.
Torgon reads the scroll in his hand, casting True Seeing, and moves towards FerroKel, pulling his spiked chain out in combat position.
Durgan follows after Torgon, hoping to get in sword range of one of the dragons. Thinking hard, the dwarf sends an idea to Xenia.
Peerimus the Elder Air Elemental watches and gauges the tactics of the battle with some surprises. He casts Protection from Energy Fire, then shifts into an Elder Elemental and rising 100' straight up. He also tries words over brute force with the dragons.
Rash watches her air elementals find a target and dive down to harass the dragon called Obsidian. (yep, all miss). The cleric herself moves forward and casts her own true seeing on herself to see FerroKel. Speaking with the other CoC, Rash urges to fight and stop trying to work with obviously evil creatures.
Jurgen throws up a Resist Energy and tries to figure out where he should show up next.
Firn'gaer 's hand continues to attempt to grapple the angry dragon, Obsidian with no success. The mage casts Ray of Enfeeblement at Obsidian and strength drains from the dragon!
Lhari, the intelligent Staff of Evocation Fate Item replies to Firn'gaer. "Absolutely! This is an exciting page of history for the Children of Chaos don't you think?" and casts a wall of force between Firn'gaer and the Dragon FerroKel. The wall of force shimmers into view, floating 10 feet off the ground and halfway between Firn'gaer and FerroKel the Dragon.
And in a flash of overpowering multi-colored lights and magic, Trace the Ranger appears 15 feet behind Torgon! The CoC (except Xenia) can immediately feel his Status through the Broken Spiral Tattoos, and Trace knows the location and relative health of Firn'gaer, Peerimus, Rash, Kazak, Durgan, Jurgen, and Torgon.

FerroKel location is AW-AX,49-51. } Rash is staggered and blood begins seeping around her armor in a half-circle looking like a bite mark. (Rash AC 52 Dam 19). FerroKel's voice booms out above the village. "You may be right, for you would not be powerful enough to move our home. Dismiss your spells and move together, and we will talk."
Obsidian continues to Hover. "No!!!, she shrieks to the sky, "they have despoiled my nest and will be punished!!!" Her Spirit Weapon continues to strike the Grasping Hand, hitting three times for 26 more damage. Obsidian turns her ferocity on an Air Elemental striking again and again, and even weakened by Firn'gaer's spell, she delivers 80 points of damage to the elemental! The Air Elementals again are affected by the Frightful Presence of a Dragon, shaking in their proverbial boots.

Rash is very likely correct, but at least one of the dragons is appearing to consider other possibilities. However, moving into a single group to stnad defenseless against a pair of great red dragons smacks of sucide and not hopeful negotiation. Xenia moves forward and lowers her own defenses and Peerimus hopes that she has some quick escape plan at least in mind if things go wrong. For with dragons they could go very wrong very fast.
Peerimus casts Protection from Energy Lightning and moves forward to hover above Kazak. "We have despoiled nothing great Obsidian and our position and defences should have no bearing on bringing a truce to current actions." Peerimus whispers through the Message spell, "Firngaer and anyone else. Where is the other dragon and what is he doing?"
Seeing the wound on Rash he whispers again, Never mind I believe I have figured it out. Where is he now?"

Jurgen - 170/170 d20+21=31 ; Tuesday February 16th, 2010 2:28:26 AM
"This is ridiculous." Jurgen comments to nobody, thinking that this entire situation seems unusual. Dragons, some of the oldest creatures in the Wold, are angry at the Children for something that the Southern Continent itself is doing. Something that the Dragons might actually have more knowledge than the Children about.
And now Xenia is attempting diplomacy with them, even though they really only want revenge. Except one of them seems to have brains and the other is completely nuts. Jurgen considers drinking his potion, but decides against it. Xenia is doing something stupid and he really should save her from that... So instead, he shouts to FerroKel, the dragon that is at least making some sense. "We will help you! Our magics are not powerful enough to destroy your home, but perhaps we can help rebuild! Surely remaking your life is a better choice than risking death against us! At least hear us out before either side gets injured." Jurgen tries a Diplomacy Check on the fly [d20+21=31 Normal -10 for Full-Round Action = 21].

Torgon casts fly, and flies to stand on the ground next to Kazak (who is hovering 30 feet in the air).
Xenia flies in the face of danger, of all common sense, and into the jaws of death.
Durgan follows behind Torgon, and gets out his trusty crossbow.
Trace opens his eyes and is overwhelmed with joy to see his friends once more. He casts Cats Grace and informs the one dragon he can see that he is only defending himself.
Peerimus considers Rash is likely correct, but won't give up on the possibility of a verbal conflict resolution. He casts Protection from Energy Lightning and moves forward to hover above Kazak.
Kazak keeps his eye on Obsidian, and readies himself to either return to the group or to charge the dragon fighting the Grasping Hand and Air Elementals.
Rash is protected from most of the dragon's bite, and continues to tell the others how stupid it is to parlay with TWO red dragons. The cleric flies forward and points a finger at FerroKel to cast a targeted greater dispel magic at the great wurm. The spell barely overcomes FerroKel's Spell Resistance (DM roll of 23), but it does, and all his defensive spells fall!
Rash watches as her shaken elementals also try and attack the other dragon without success.
Jurgen is torn between helping save Xenia from herself, killing dragons, and getting useful information from the very long-lived species. Trying to do all in one swoop, he tries speaking with FerroKel and convincing the dragon the CoC can help them rebuild.

FerroKel is now visible to all the CoC. He pumps his wings and soars back towards Obsidian growling at the heroes. "You talk of peaceful possibilities and continue to advance. How come I do not trust you small softskins? You seek to complete the destruction of my family?" FerroKel flies in to assist Obsidian with the Air Elementals. "As you can see, I am also 'only fighting defensively'." The red dragon with a white sail crest arcs towards the Air Elementals and breaths another cone of cold! All three Elementals and the Grasping Hand are in the cone. Two of the elementals this time are too slow and get the full force of the cold. So too, the Grasping Hand.
Obsidian sees FerroKel's breath seriously hurt the elementals. Not speaking, she points her forward sweeping black horns down and dives to the ground and lines up the two remaining air elementals before opening her own mouth. Sizzling the very air, a stream of black acid shoots a hundred feet into the air and transfixes both elementals, wounding them further. Obsidian's Spiritual Weapon continues to maul Firn'gaer's Grasping Hand spell, doing 29 more damage.

"'KAY! I'M NOT MOVING." The girl rogue arrests her forward motion. She hangs motionless, spread eagle and defenseless in the air. "YOU WANT NOT MOVING, I'M NOT MOVING. You wanna come get me, I won't fight. If you wanna kill me down ... "
Wynn is still out there. Somewhere. If she dies, he may never know what happened to her. Why is it that he never wanted children? This adventuring life, all the danger. Is it any life in which to raise young ones? No. But that also means that he chose adventuring over family - over a family with her.
"You wanna kill me down, you go right ahead. We wanna help you with your babies. I'm saying what I believe is true, and if you wanna kill me for it, then I'll just have to die."

Torgon himself seems quite unsure at the moment about how to proceed. Normally you just step forth and destroy your foes, but something is not right. Perhaps this is all just a trick, perhaps not. Either way, the intention of the dragons must be determined, and determined quickly.
The Children are holding back, and against an opponent such as these, it could turn disastrous. With his people, who have few spells to remove them safely elsewhere, destined to pay the ultimate price of their failure, the truth of these dragons must be determined now.
There has been too many things that the minotaur has seen, that are not right. It seems anything is possible with this migration. The one thing that must endure is his people....at any cost. The quickest way to determine their true intent with minimal loss is a single sacrifice. Torgon has no doubt that a unified CoC bringing their full power to bear could handle these dragons. Therefore....
"Firn'Gaer dismiss your elementals, and your magic hand. Let me determine their true intent. Hold your positions for the moment until we see what is real, their words or their actions. Let us see if Xenia is right. I will trust you all should she be wrong to look out for my people as long as is necessary."
Torgon puts his spiked chain around his shoulders, and casts Dimensional door, the spell placing him 30' in front of mighty FerroKel. He stands their with his arms in the air. "Very well dragon" he calls out to the great creature, "I am now at your disposal. Let us speak. No further spells or attacks will be directed your way. I am here defenseless before you, easily destroyed if you desire. Shall we try and help each other, or shall we try and destroy each other." Torgon awaits his possibly painful response, hoping that if Xenia is wrong he has enough time to teleport before he is ripped limb from limb.

The dragons tear into the summoned elementals. Rash cannot control or dismiss them and so the dragons have little choice but to send them back to thier home plane. Continue to advance indeed, that may have been one of the weakest arguements he believes he has ever heard. Several hundred feet still seperate the mountain from the group. Torgon's move almost causes Peerimus to loose his lunch. He could do nothing to assist either. At least Xenia moved up slow enough to be rescued.
Peerimus whispers through the message [i]"Would everyone stop panicking please and for the love of the Powers Torgon what are you doing? Do Not lower your defenses, be ready to strike, but stay calm.
Rash cannot call off the elmentals and so we will wait patiently for the dragons finish. They have been shouting about wizards and destroyed young since they emerged. If they were simply desiring combat and destruction, inventing such is pointless they simply would have engaged."

Xenia continues to shout to the dragons and leave herself completely open to attack, a sitting duck. There is something going on in that girls head...
Torgon is also unsure, but he has confidence that he could withstand attack by the dragons better than Xenia. The minotaur puts his spiked chain around his shoulders, and casts Dimensional door placing him 30' in front of mighty FerroKel. Standing with his arms in the air, Torgon offers truce: "Very well dragon"
Durgan tenses and speaks through the Sprial Tattoo to everyone (except Xenia).
Peerimus almost loses his lunch; first Xenia, now Torgon, and he could do nothing to assist either. More whispers to the minotaur through the Sprial Tattoo happen, and the druid-elemental continues to hover and casts Freedom of Movement.
Trace, against all his instincts, also holds his position and casts another defensive spell, Barkskin.
Kazak worries about a plan, any plan, and the effect of a couple of rampaging dragons on the village of Taur.
Rash thinks her friends are crazy, but dismisses her elementals and reinforces the call to parlay. She continues to move forward to better support Xenia and Kazak.

FerroKel flips his wings until he is inverted and arches into a pirouette in the air. The acrobatic maneuver enables him to fly directly at Torgon at only 20 feet off the ground! The words from the Momma Dragon sting, cutting deeper than her teeth or claws ever could.
"HOW CAN YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT RAISING YOUR CHILDREN LIKE THAT!!!"
Maybe some folks just aren't meant to be parents. Maybe it's the evil. Maybe evil folks just don't understand. Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to have children. For their own sakes as well as that of the children that they might have.
Could this be why Wynn didn't want to have children with her? Was he afraid of the evil of her drow heritage? The thought tears a cruel wound in the girl rogue's heart.
A tear rolls from the corner of her eye and blows back over the curve of her cheek as the wind of her forward flight begins once again. Xenia draws her bow and then calls on her ring again. The Graylands come, leaching color from the Wold.

The creature's existing natural armor bonus increases by 2. The size change also affects the animal's modifier to AC and attack rolls and its base damage. The animal's space and reach change as appropriate to the new size, but its speed does not change.
The spell also grants each subject damage reduction 10/magic and a +4 resistance bonus on saving throws. If insufficient room is available for the desired growth, the creature attains the maximum possible size and may make a Strength check (using its increased Strength) to burst any enclosures in the process. If it fails, it is constrained without harm by the materials enclosing it-- the spell cannot be used to crush a creature by increasing its size.

"BLACKIE'S RUN OFF TO A CAVE ON THE SOUTH SLOPE!"
The rogue draws out a scroll in preparation for entering into the dark cave after the dragons. It would be nice to be able to just seal the dragons in and hope for the best, but they've already proven that they could likely dig themselves out pretty easily - especially with their magic.
Xenia folds her arms to her side, and, from her superior height, begins a downward glide, the wind of her speed whipping through her invisible hair. Jurgen considers attempting to bring the mountain down on the dragons, but realizes that it is definitely far outside of his power to do. Maybe he could throw a very small boulder their way. There weren't many options. The Children could either leave the dragons alone and hope they didn't slaughter the town or they could go into the dark cave. For Jurgen, like the rest of the group, there were no other options.
"Durgan, I'm coming to you. Trace and anyone else who wants a teleport in, meet there." Jurgen passes on through the message spell. His plan is not to go blindly though. With the Status spell active, he should be able to pin-point the other Children and Dimension Door to their exact position. At least, in theory... [Move to BG 47]

It's a good thing that the dark rogue has such keen hearing. As Momma Rash whispers to her Tattoo, Xenia picks up her words. (Even with the cleric so far behind!) To respond, this close to her entry into the cave, would be giving her position away. So, the rogue remains silent. Would that her tattoo were still working.
Instead, she flips open the scroll and chants the words written thereon. With this magic her eyes should be able to pierce the darkness of the cave.
Again, she descends, this time slipping into the cave at the height of the ceiling. The rogue's eyes spy for the dragons, her ears listen. Then she begins a search - a search for traps.

Dragons! round 9 (DMSteveK) 2d8+10=16 ; Tuesday February 23rd, 2010 11:53:17 AM
Xenia descends and slips into the cave right at the ceiling. She spies for the dragons, listening intently, and begins searching for traps. Her darkvision is able to pick up that Xenia is in a low tunnel that looks natural. The ceiling is only 20 feet above the floor and the tunnel is worn smooth by years of movement. Rubble is strewn about the floor and chunks of ceiling have fallen recently. Twenty feet in front of Xenia is the scree of a major cave-in, blocking the tunnel continuing into the mountain. Another tunnel moves to the left/north, and the rogue can see at the edge of her darkvision a cloud of Darkness. She can hear the scrabbling of a very large creature(s) moving somewhere in the tunnel ahead. There are no traps seen and the echoes don't allow close approximation of how far away or how close the movement noises are...
Torgon continues after his chain, using his full move at top speed, and almost gets there.
Durgan grumbles thanks to Jurgen and urges an immediate move to the fight, if one can be found.
Peerimus lands just behind Xenia and takes the form of Elder Earth Elemental, gliding into the rock to follow Xenia. He warns about the plans of the dragons.
Peerimus' Rocs continue to gain altitude and begin circling over the village.
Firn'gaer doesn't move and offers Rufus the Familiar to be their eyes outside to warn if the dragons come outside again. The gnome wizard worries about the villagers, but can be assured that Sifthorn and Yorrick have the minotaurs of the village hidden away. If the dragons begin destroying the village, it will only be buildings and animals that will get hurt.
Trace moves to get with Jurgen and Durgan to get a teleport into the caves and readies a potion of darkvision. The invisible ranger doesn't startle his friends too much when he speaks up suddenly behind them.
Kazak continues to fly straight as an arrow towards the caves entance which is 15 feet above the level of the fields. Kazak has a good view of the entrance, 20 feet high and the natural stone worn down by many years of movement.
Rash animates her shield and flies towards the shakes her head at the lack of response from drow. She keeps forgetting that Xenia's link is severed for now after contact with the cube. Within the gloom of the cave mouth, Xenia draws another scroll. The dragons are here. But, being big noisy guys, they could be pretty far away and still be heard. Who can tell with dragons?
Heedless of traps in this first section of the tunnel, the dark rogue jet across to the far side, concealed in the shadows near the ceiling, and begins her approach into the darkness. Here, there is likely to be more to be concerned about from the odd little sphere of darkness that sits at the other side of the cave. Firn'gaer moves 80-ft closer. No, I can't stop them from teleporting. I wasn't expecting to have to deal with two sorcerer dragons when I got up this morning. Are we prepared for two dragons?

Peerimus chuckles to himself as Firngaer brings up the question of preparedness. No none likely selected spells through meditation study of prayer to involve combat against a pair of big dragons, especially himself. No, today would be a lesson in general readiness for himself and the other spellcasters. Torgon's spells seemed fairly stagnant, he was a warrior first, cleric second. Kazak, Durgan and now Trace were always ready. The rest of them simply had to keep out of the way, harass the dragons and let the martial experts carry the day. The druid answers Firngaer through the tattoo, "We are sufficiently prepared yes.
Peerimus, with his eyes just above the ground so that he can see, opts to move through/under the cave in and investigate the area beyond. Perhaps it collapsed when the mountain fell, but then again perhaps not. He peers about as he moves, his Darkvision providing detail to 60' [Spot 41]

Torgon retrieves his chain, and heads for the rest of the group preparing to go in. "There is no where to take them that the dragons could not reach this day. I could not teleport them all, and the dragons have the magic to come for them. They are safer here, where we are Rash."
"These dragons must be dealt with today, for they will likely come for us in the night when it is easier for them, and we are in need of rest and replenishment. They will likely try and wear us down and make us expend our resources until we are less able. We must hunt them to their lair, where they will hopefully make a stand to protect what they treasure."
