The Doppelganger Tuesday February 9th, 2010 10:33:23 PM
The doppelganger formerly known as Jacob does not resist when Xeron grapples him and places a dagger to his throat, he merely starts to cry, sobbing inconsolably. "I am not a monster," it whispers to himself, "I am not."
"A threat?" Alistair asks rhetorically, "not to me, but it is quite interesting it does not know what it is." Looking at Beri and processing his question for some deeper meaning, "What? Not phased, did you not see me gasp in surprise? Is common a second language for you?" Shaking his head at the infantile thought processes of people of lesser intellect, he asks the creature again, "Where is Jacob?"
Tears streaming down it's face, it's clammy skin cool to Xeron's touch, it answers, "I told him to run, to get away before Vellinius got to him."
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Tuesday February 9th, 2010 10:46:42 PM "Let it go, it can't get away. Maybe he know something important, about Vellinius."
Maikill stands firm, he holds his axe at the ready.
"No worry, we keep ready to fight if need."
The Doppelganger Wednesday February 10th, 2010 12:26:04 AM
Coming to grips with what it was, the doppelganger squeezed away the tears from it's eyes, wary of bringing it's hands to it's face lest Xeron open his throat. "I know many things of Vellinius; evil bad monster." Looking at Maikill, the doppelganger's face changed as he turned into Maikill's mother, "I know who killed you mother too, I read his thoughts days ago." Looking to Alistair and the rest, the doppelganger changed back into Jacob, "Am I really not Jacob, I think I am, I feel like I am, what is wrong with me?"
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 5:06:00 AM
Standing at the closed door (if it was open, he has closed it by now), Ransy is utterly disgusted by the shape changes of the doppleganger. I hope Alistair puts an end to this soon, it's an insult to all these people he's impersonating, Ransy thinks. No wonder that it is utterly confused about it's own identity; with all these changes I would get raving mad too. I don't know which devil has created these creatures, but it must revel in chaos. Look what a pitiful creature this is. We had better rid the world of it's misery, after it has told us everything about that Vellinius. Tell us all about that Vellinius; how can we get to him? Ransy asks the doppleganger.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 9:22:29 AM
Xeron does release the doppledanger although he moves the dagger when the creature put his hand over his face. "That thing has fooled us long enough. I will not let it go. It could take one of the group member appearance and how would we know who is who?""
When the creature take the face of a woman (Maikill's mother), the rogue push the dagger deeper i nthe neck, not drawing blood yet but close. Anger appears, a seldom seems emotion on Xeron's face "STOP THIS! Keep your real face for now on! Or you will die! "
He takes a deep breath and regain control of the tone of his voice. In a very matter of fact style, he asks "Now if you value your life, tell all. When did you "replace" Jacob? Is the man safe? How would we now that? Who is that Vellenius? How do you know him? What kind of creature is it? Did you know about the parasite? What about the lockers and their prisoners? And remember, some of us here can tell if you are lying. You try to deceive us and you are history! "
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 19(20) d20+2=11 ; d20+7=23 ; Wednesday February 10th, 2010 9:59:18 AM
Seeing the doppleganger whimper and plea for help, Cesar's expression softens.
He puts his sword back in his sheathe and lays a hand on Xeron's shoulder: "The poor thing is afraid, can't you see? Please put away your weapon... and furthermore, what could he possibly do to us? There's eight of us, plus Magister Allistair. Let him calm down and tell his tale".
Cesar approaches the creature and kneels down near to it: "Let's start from the beginning: do you have a name?", he asks with a reassuring smile on his face, "Dad always told me the first thing to begin a friendship is by exchanging names. Mine's Cesar.".
OOC. Not knowing if I should roll on Diplomacy or Handle Animal (sort of Empathy) as there isn't a "Persuade" or "Empathy" ability I'll roll both... =)
Diplomacy = 11; Handle Animal = 23
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 9:59:34 AM
ooc:
Sooooo close to 3rd LV!!!! Find me a goblin to stomp, quick!
Can we have the group loot finally divided up at this point? We've got the money and gear from beating the Gnome and his comrades, minus 800 gp. What does that add up to? Then share it 6 ways amongst the Hookers at that time.
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 d20+7=22 ; Wednesday February 10th, 2010 10:17:13 AM
Grendel firmly speaks to Xeron, "Back off, you're making things worse." then to the group she explains, "If the Magister is not worried we should act accordingly. This is his house after-all."
Bending down low toward the doppleganger she says softly, "Jacob. As you regain your true memories you may come to wish us ill. Until that point comes you are still Jacob to us and we're honor bound to assist you. Tell us what you would have us do and explain to us your connection to Vellinius and his plans." With a friendly smile she places her hand on his shoulder and offers him comfort.
After the creature has said his peace Grendel will approach Magister Alistair. With a sigh she collects her thoughts and addresses him, "Good Magister, I have little to offer other than my apologies for bringing such trouble to your doorstep. I should have recognized a doppleganger amongst us for the past 2 days and nights. My arcane training is obviously lacking and inadequate. If you require recompense, simply name it." Then quietly to herself, "Should we not have the funds I am sure I can leverage my magical ability or cooking skills if all else fails to make the rest... eventually."
================ Diplomacy toward the Magister (using +3 for the Hero Point): 22
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells Wednesday February 10th, 2010 11:28:33 AM
ooc: Group Loot is 99.357gp and Hemust and Jillian got thier weapons and armor back. That would be 16.556 gp each. I suggest we keep it for group use.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 11:34:09 AM
Xeron looks at Grendel and shakes his head "If he becomes me as he can read my thought, you would you know who the real me is? I will not back off.
He whispers into the doppledanger ear "Now creature, just answer my questions and fast so I can get out of this stinky place. As soon as you tell me what I want, I will give you to the priest and she will take good care of you.. The pressure from the dagger on the neck disappears.
Thinking to himself "Why is she apologising to the rich jerk? Shouldn't he apologize for having all this luxury and doing nothing to help Mud Town?"
The Doppelganger d20=1 ; d20+7=11 ; Wednesday February 10th, 2010 1:10:15 PM
The doppelganger's face and body jerk back to it's true form after Xeron threatens it once more, but it does not answer his questions (intimidate roll: 1!), it just continues to cry. When Cesar comforts it, his countenance softens--Cesar must be a paladin, it thinks. When Grendel speaks gently to it he begins to break down again (dip roll:11), but attempts to speak through fits of crying, "My name is Jacob, no, not Jacob, Jacob is a good man, Jacob is my friend. He called me Temujin--said it was a good name for me, said I was too good to work for Vellinuis. Vellinuis is a bad man, no, he is a monster--a real monster. Jacob is not a monster, Jacob is good, Jacob is a druid and he calls himself a monstrologer. Jacob, no, Temujin, is not a monster.Temujin is good, he kills the evil cultists that work for Vellinius-chop, chop. Vellinius found out about Jacob, wanted Temujin to deliver Jacob to him for enslavement, Temujin say no, Vellinius hurt him, hurt him bad. Temujin's brain not thinking right after that, feels cloudy inside. But Temujin beat Vellinius, in secret Temujin cut out worm from head with axe--hurt bad, very bad, make Temujin see blackness. When Temujin wakes up, he runs to find Jacob and tells him to run, to go back home, go back home now! Jacob wants Temujin to come with him, but cannot, he must kill evil cultists that work for Vellinius first. Jacob say no, so Temujin steal Jacob strongbox, give Jacob no reason to stay and then tell Jacob he lure Vellinius away so Jacob can be safe and go home--so Temujin become Jacob. Jacob is good. Jacob find group, group protect Jacob during day, then at night Temujin sneak away and kill evil cultists that work for Vellinius. Temujin is good, Temujin not a monster."
Alistair is amazed by the story, but still wonders where the true Jacob is. When Grendel addresses him, he arches an eyebrow, "No disrespect meant, but based on my personal experience, you're very well-spoken for one of your race. As for the creature, I have no fear of it. With my glasses I can discern it's true nature at will and should it attack, I'll simply disintegrate it. Now, let me find Jacob in earnest."
Alistair excuses himself for a moment and steps to a nearby armoire and opens it. On the inside of the door is a finely wrought and highly polished silver mirror, approximately 2' x 4' long. The magister begins incanting a spell and soon brings up an image of a man resembling Jacob, but in tattered clothing, lashed with vines against a dirt wall. Pulling back the image he sees a cauldron and then what some would call a witch--her disheveled hair, rotting teeth and threadbare robes crawling with vermin are a disgusting sight to behold--the large cauldron before her boils in anticipation.
"Not good." Alistair quips. Pulling the image back even further before the image fades, it is darkness until sunlight breaks through the branches of a large tree in a clearing surrounded by sargrass. "He's in the Sargrass plains--and looks to be getting ready to be made the main course."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 1:50:13 PM
Xeron pulls away the dagger and goes stands against a wall. "Temujin, relax. You are safe from me. Let me sure I understand. You worked for Vellinius and has a parasite in your head and you took it out yourself? And you went and killed the other men with a parasite in their head? Do us a big face, show us what Vellinius looks like. And please answer this question: when you were attacked by Ramdoodle's gang was it you or the real Jacob?"
When the Magister indicates the situation with Jacob, Xeron just asks "What is your exact relationship with Jacob? Can't you save him with your all powerful magic? "
He stops and then adds "Too bad we cannot be teleported where he is because we currently are looking for an employer now that we found out that Jacob was not Jacob .... "
The dagger disappears and he is standing there, now silent, a stern look on his face.
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 1:53:44 PM
Grendel smiles. I was right. Between the divination magic in his glasses, his ability to magically distintegrate opponents and scry on far locations he must truly be a powerful spellcaster."So can't you go save him? I mean you've got the magic and he's your friend right?"
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells Wednesday February 10th, 2010 1:55:36 PM
Despite the dire news, the bond taur's eyes immediately brighten upon hearing mention of the Sargrass Plains. Despite all the dangers and the hostile environment he cannot help but to embrace his romanticized view of the area. Grymash, another Cleric of Gargul and Bosk's personal hero, had grown up there. Although he had never met Grymash, his tales were legendary among the other clerics both for teaching pupils lessons in bravery and caution. As long as he lived, he would never forget the story of Grymash randomly trying on a magical item and becoming a girl, or being in such a hurry to jump down a pit that he forgot that he was holding both ends of the rope that was supposed to be supporting him. He often wondered how these stories got out, sure that Grymash didn't spread the tales. Perhaps they were all made up or greatly exagerated, but the taur had no doubt of his bravery or skill in battle.
For the moment Bosk decided to keep quiet. Despite wanting to go after the REAL Jacob, he knows that others are more skilled in negotiation and would be more likely to get some gold out of the deal. If the group does decide to go after Jacob, he will first talk to Alistair about the armor. Then, if there is time, he will see what he can get for selling what is left of the Zamnodle's loot.
Temujin & Magister Alistair Wednesday February 10th, 2010 2:23:53 PM
Upon Xeron's request, Temujin turns into the visage of a mind flayer--it's baleful countenance sending a shiver up everyone's spine, then the doppelganger quickly changes back into the form of Jacob.
Xeron's rebuke barely registered with Alistair, after all, he thought the man a thug and had half a wit about him anyways. But when Grendel asks the same question, his look is one of disappointment--how ignorant he thought. "In laymen's terms, a Scry spell such as I have cast, shows the area around the subject, but not exactly where he, she, or it, is. To blindly teleport into an area I know little about, is to invite a swift, very painful, death. Besides, if it's the sargrass as I surmise, it is thousands of miles away--much too far for a teleport spell. To get there I must travel through one of the magical doorways still linked to the Sargrass Plains, then from there I can teleport to Jacob's father and gather some more information that may help me in finding him." Alistair looks at the group, not sure if he should make the offer. Sighing, he continued, "There are many Druid tree's there, Jacobs father will require the assistance of a few able-bodied men and women to search for him no doubt. If you're willing to come along and help, I'm sure you'll be paid for your time." Then looking at the doppelganger, "Also, what do you intend to do with that?"
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 2:25:01 PM
Maikill steps back and with an astonished look as the creature turns to his mother and then back to Jacob. The words though, that is what matters "I know who killed your mother"
"Nobody hurt creature, he know who kill mother. Who, tell me now."
talk of Jacob, the Sargrass plains, all else are lost to him.
"You must tell me where find mother killer. Please, tell me. I take care of you, you tell me."
Temujin Wednesday February 10th, 2010 2:38:55 PM
Looking at Maikill, Jacob turns into the half-orc's mother--less the scary eyes and teeth. It is a perfect image of her, and she speaks in the same soft caring voice he remembered from years ago, "I'm sorry dear, I know what he looks like, but not where he is. I can help you find him though, his thoughts are strong, steeped in darkness and searching for more blood to spill. He is like you, but not like you, I'm sorry I could not help more." Maikill's mother looks away, the sadness apparent in her eyes, then she turns once more into Temujin--yet the sadness still remains in his eyes.
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 2:48:00 PM
Maikill drops to the floor, his face in his hands and he sobs.
in a quiet voice he blurts out between sobs "he help me, no hurt him, please" can barely be made out as his voice is lost in his weeping.
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 3:09:16 PM
Grendel takes all of this in for a moment. Looking out of one of Alistair's windows she sighs. 'Taking on a new job just when we got inside Hook City is not what I planned. Still, the real Jacob is in trouble. As for this Temujin... might not be evil. But he was killing those men. All of those men could have been saved if they had their parasites removed, but this creature just killed them.' She thinks to herself.
Looking at Bosk she says, "I'm torn. On the one hand, this Temujin might not be evil. On the other, it is certain that he is the 'Brain Eating' Murderer. Perhaps he was not aware of the mole and it's ability to eat those parasites. Can you divine the truth in his stories?"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 3:26:53 PM
As Temujin turns into a mind flyer, Xeron does not flinch. "How can such a creature not be seen in Mud Town? How can such a monster not be reported?"
He sees the distress in Maikill about his mother killer and feels a certain connection to the huge fighter "No one know who killed my mom or who my father is? I guess finding that out could be enerving. But .. wait ....
He speaks openly 'Wait a minute Maikill. The creature has never met your mother. All he knows are you own memories of him. How could he know who killed her? If is only source of information is your memory and all you know is that orcs killed your mother, he might be manipulating you. Think about it. "
He turns towards Grendel 'Maikill looks up to you. Do you think the creature can know who the killers are? You might now want MAikill to become someone puppet."
When Allistair offers to hire them, Xeron just nods. Anythign that would take him out of Hook City is welcome.
When Grendel asks Bosk his opinion about what to do with Tumejin, Xeron interjects "Just remember that there is a big reward for finding the braineater. By the way Temujin, how did you know who the cultists were? Is there many others? "
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells Wednesday February 10th, 2010 4:07:08 PM
Bosk ponders what to do with the doppelganger for a moment. I suppose that it all depends on if Temujin plans to continue with the murders and taking the peoples brains. If we decide to let him go, we could possibly find a way to use a helmet to disguise one of the bodies in Pig Alley to look like the doppelganger, or we could tell everyone he was burned up in the building last night, hence there is no body. As long as the murders stop, then I think people will believe that the creature is gone. Besides, what the people want is for the killings to stop. If Temujin agrees to stop we have done exactly as they want. It will just be in a different way than they expected. Besides, we can continue destroying the parasites with the mole.
Returning to the topic of the murders, why do you have the brains in that chest?
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 19(20) Wednesday February 10th, 2010 4:26:21 PM
OOC: I'll be away for work all of tomorrow, so I don't know if I'll be able to post. I'd post something now, but I'm dead tired and my bed is calling to me... =P
I'll see if I can manage to post tomorrow morning before getting on the train!
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 d20+7=24 ; Wednesday February 10th, 2010 4:28:27 PM
When he hears Temujin's story, Ransy tries to judge its truthfulness: 24 sense motive. But even if it seems to be sincere, he doubts and says:
let's not forget that this doppleganger has been very confused these last few days, some would even say mad. One moment he is convinced that he really is Jacob; the next he suddenly remembers that he is a doppleganger. Do we really want such an unstable creature with us? WHo knows what he will be next: he could change into an enemy any minute, I wager. On the other hand, we cannot let him run loose here in Hook City. Let's lock him up for his crimes somewhere, and go save the real Jacob from the witch. And let's hurry.
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 4:32:50 PM
Maikill pulls himself up off the floor, his sobbing has stopped. With cold eyes he looks at Xeron and then at Ransy. His eyes lock upon the newcomer.
"I said I take care of him. He knows who kill mother. I handle him, he no hurt anyone. Unless you think you stronger and handle him yourself. You need prove stronger, you need kill me. I say he stay and help me."
Maikill stands and though tears still stain his face he looks very determined.
Temujin d20+10=11 (Alistair search); Wednesday February 10th, 2010 4:41:58 PM
"How do I know who is a cultist? I was there when they agreed to accept the worm, to join Vellinius' cult. Only Yosef, Numitor's sister and children are left, but they are gone now, with Roy." Looking to Bosk and then the chest, "I did not know what to do with them. I didn't not want Vellinius getting them back--the worms." Alistair immediately goes and closes the strongbox, looking about to make sure no worms had escaped their makeshift prison (nat1, crap!).
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 4:47:19 PM
Ransy frowns at Maikill and says: You can't decide this on your own Maikill, as it involves a risk for the entire group. With all respect, the first thing is to search the real Jacob. He may be entering the witch's cauldron right now! Chasing after you mum's killer has to wait, I think; so we can leave Temujin behind bars for now.
Temujin Wednesday February 10th, 2010 6:40:08 PM
"I want to go," Temujin says rather meekly, for fear of being attacked, physically or otherwise, then speaks up a little more forcefully, "I want to help my friend, Jacob. I want to go."
Looking at Xeron and remembering the almost rhetorical question he asked, Temujin responds, "You won't be able to find Vellinius easily. He bought a helmet of disguise recently from a shop that got several of them in at the same time--he uses that to walk the streets of Mudtown incognito."
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:6/7 d20+10=12 ; Wednesday February 10th, 2010 7:36:00 PM
Beriothian listens to Temujin's tale. A helmet of disguise? That is going to make it hard to track him down. Alistair, those glasses of yours have the ability to see things as they truly are. Am I correct in assuming that such an item would be able to see through a magical disguise?
Beriothian sees Alistair having a hard time looking for these worms and give a quick glance around where the box was sitting.
Alistair Wednesday February 10th, 2010 7:42:30 PM
"Yes," Alistair mumbles as he looks here and there for any escapee worms. Beri aids in the search and finds none either.
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 d20+1=16 ; Wednesday February 10th, 2010 8:27:19 PM
OOC: Sorry Library been shut down due to snow...
Valla is very amazed at the sight of Hook City Proper, the excited grin hardly left his face, until seeing the for sale tower; which he was very dissapointed he couldn't inquire more about it. I'll go back there
The fact that the brain eater has been 'jacob' all along, and the fact the its been eating the brains of people Vellinus has infected is all very interesting to Valla.
The creature lived amongst us for nearly three days. Single handedly killed most of Vellinus's followers, while we looked for both. Amazing... Simply Amazing.
Vallas thoughts of Alistair are of respect, the elf even bowed with "Jacob" upon first sight. Upon mention of helping find the real Jacob; Valla beings to worry. Yes, the reward would help wonders with the tower; and the man is a good man, he doesn't deserve such a fate. But much is still at stake here in Mud Town, that we've left unfinished. Vellinus is still around.
So, through all this time the elf has been silent, quietly thinking to himself, but listeing intently, he finally speaks up. Im not sure what to do with Temujin here. He could be helpful while searching for Jacob; or Vellinus for that matter, but a huge liability as well. This requires thought out actions... As for finding Jacob, we must also remember that Vellinus is still in Mud Town, or Hook City by now for all we know. The elf turns to Alistair;
After bowing; I sir, have a few questions for you as well. Why, or how, would this doppleganger be able to put these brains in a chest locked up by Jacob's father? You glasses are very valuable; would you by chance be able to point us in the direction of a magic goods shop here in the city? Whether we go find Jacob or track down Vellinus, magical goods would help alot. And third; I saw a for sale tower on the way here; only 1gold it said. I must ask, why is it practicaly being given away? Whats the catch?
Diplomacy (Alistiar): 16
Alistair Wednesday February 10th, 2010 8:43:41 PM
Alistair looked Valla up and down and answered his first question, "I don't know, perhaps he read Jacob's mind. When I joked Jacob, Temujin, about his father locking up the strongbox even from his son, I was slightly surprised by his answer--the real Jacob knows how to open this box." As for the rest of Valla's question, Alistair tersely replies, "Do I look like a friggin' tour guide? Come, on." Shaking his head in disgust at the elf's impertinence, Alistair finished his search for any stray worms.
------- ooc: none of the brains looked to have been eaten.
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 10:15:16 PM "I'm confused. Why did Temujen bring you these brains Magister Alistair?"
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:6/7 Wednesday February 10th, 2010 10:35:48 PM Temujen, what did you do with the original contents of the locked chest?
Alistair Thursday February 11th, 2010 12:12:58 AM
Alistair looks from Grendel to Temujin, then back to Grendel and gives a confused look himself, sighing, he asked the creature, "Temujin, since this lady here doesn't want to ask you this question, for whatever reason, I dunno," sighing again, Why must I suffer the question of fools, the mage asks himself, I hold enough knowledge to fill a planet, but still, they persist. "Why did YOU bring these to me?"
Temujin thinks and then answers, "I, don't know, I think Jacob wanted you to have the box, or what was in it...and um, I don't remember what was in it, sorry."
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 19(20) Thursday February 11th, 2010 12:35:57 AM "Methinks our new friend Temujin here is innocent", goes on Cesar never leaving the doppleganger's side, "And although he did take the wrong road, I believe his actions were guided by a good thought... and I also think he didn't eat the brains! He said he went after the octopus-thing's cultists, who probably had one of those mind-controlling-worm-things in their brain and not knowing about the mole he just removed the problem at its very root! But as we are speaking the real Jacob is in some kind of danger, so let's get a move on and go to his father's place to start investigation!"
OOC. off to Milan! Cya! =)
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 d20+8=11 ; Thursday February 11th, 2010 10:06:10 AM
Suddenly realizing that some worms might have escaped, Xeron go check for them but like Allistair and Beri, does not find any (search: 1d20 + 8 = 11).
He goes back to his position agaisnt the wall and asks Tumejin "Can you show us the type of disguise that Vellinius likes to use in the hat of disguise?"
He looks at Maikill and realizes that the barbarian would fight to death is anything would be done to the doppledanger so he asks another question "You said you know who killed MAikill mother. This is your only ticket to freedom right now. How about you tell us exactly what you know or show us if you want. "
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Thursday February 11th, 2010 12:02:19 PM
Maikill stands by Temujin and nods.
"Xeron is right. I save you if you help me find mother killer. Tell us what you know, I no let them hurt you."
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 Thursday February 11th, 2010 12:49:28 PM
Valla looks astonished at the way Alistair answers his questions; Why does one with knowledge refuse to share with others. Its a sad day today...
Valla shakes his head at Alistair; Im trying to help Jacob; showing respect to you, a human while seeking harmless information that I can get on my own given a bit of time. Something we don't have alot of by the way the situation sounds, and disgusted reply's are what Im given.... Valla stands and walks over to the door way, standing next to Ransy.
I know Maikills mother's killer is a very important issue. To Maikill and to myself as well, what pains my comrades should pain me as well. I also think this tower; selling for only one gold! Is important too; but both are but mere hassels at the moment. We need to track down Vellinus and find the real Jacob, before we follow leads to your mother, Maikill, or my tower.
Valla looks to Grendel and Bosk; The Sargrass plains arn't getting any closer with us standing here. Jacob isn't getting any better ethier. We should figure out what to do with Temujin and get on with this. I agree with Ransy, turn the 'ganger into the guard. Let them deal with him. Yes, he was attempting to do good, but he still killed many people. Since there was another way to save them, I think he should pay for his crimes. Ignorance may be bliss, but it doesn't give immunity to the law, if the law is still intact here in the city proper that is...
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells d20=15 ; d20=3 ; d20+4=10 ; Thursday February 11th, 2010 3:02:31 PM
Responding to Valla, Bosk thinks for a moment and decides to ask three questions. waiting for an answer to each item before moving on to the next one he starts by addressing the group. I agree with Valla, we need to leave as soon as possible if we want to save Jacob. Allister, am I correct is assuming that if we need to locate Jacob's father and gather some more information before we can find him, that you believe what ever the witch is doing will take some time and that there is a chance we will be able to come to Jacob's aid before it is too late? do you think we will we have enough time to do something with Temujin, should it be deemed necessary?
When Allister is done, he speaks to Temujin. Temujin, you said that only Yosef and Numitor's sister and children are left. Were they the women and children that we had downstairs this morning? If so, I am worried. We removed the worn from Yosef already, and that women is aware of the fact. If that is the case, Yosef may be in danger of getting killed or having the worm reimplanted by the Ilithad.
I think we need to carefully consider our actions before deciding what to do with Temujin. We need to determine what this cult does and why people would willing accept the worm in order to determine if it warrants the members death. We also need to get any information we can about Maikill's mother's killer. Furthermore, if we turn him over to the guards we need to make sure we can still get access to him if we need more information. If Temujin's actions were necessary, we can still tell the people we put an end to the murders. After all, they murders should stop now that we have a mole that can remove the worms without killing the victim. Temujin, please tell us all that you know. You said the others afreed to accept the worm, did you volunteer to get a worm implanted, or were you forced to? Why would they agree to recieving the worm, and why would Yosef change his mind and want it removed? Do you know what Vellinius is trying to acomplish by all this?
After he is finished questioning Temujin, he decides to ask Allister one more question. Allister, I hate to trouble you, but you are the most powerful and learned man I have ever met. Could you by any chance use your mirror to scry an Ilithad named Vellinius, or find a way to let us know when he is close by? He is the one responsible for the worms and is the one who was after Jacob.
After asking his questions and receiving his answers, Bosk quickly scans the room for any worms that may have escaped. ============================= Diplomacy =15 Search for Worms = 3 Spot Worms = 10
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 d20+2=15 ; Thursday February 11th, 2010 3:08:46 PM
Ransy smiles at Valla and says: well put, Valla. and he adds to Cesar and Maikill: I don't understand why you so readily believe what this doppleganger says. Haven't you heard him say this incredible sentence: "I was there when they agreed to accept the worm, to join Vellinius' cult." Now, I can't believe that! Nobody would willingly accept a worm in their brains and become a slave with horrible pains in their heads. That simply can't be true.
Ransy then looks in his vicinity for escaped worms too: 15 search.
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Thursday February 11th, 2010 6:45:27 PM "He know what mother look like. He know about killer. I no tell anyone. He help me, I help him."
Maikill says, getting a bit annoyed that people seem to think him stupid or incapable of making a decision.
The Order Thursday February 11th, 2010 6:59:17 PM
When asked so many questions in quick succession, Temujin tries to keep a sense of them all. "Vellinius' disguise? No, I cannot, he did not show me his disguised appearance, he just bragged about it to me." Looking back to Maikill and his promise of protection, Temujin turns into a half-orc, the resemblance was striking--it was Maikill's uncle. In a gruff voice that was hard to deny was Maikill's uncle, Tem spoke, "I saw Maikill through the window when he was fighting that gnome and his crew. He fought well, killing that other half-orc wench. She fought much harder than Maikill's mother, so soft and easy, no challenge at all." The uncle touches the side of his face where a scar had formed, "She'll never lay a hand on me again!" Laughing at his deeds, the half-orc changes back into Temujin and looks away, ashamed of bringing back the memory of what had transpired to Maikill's mother.
Alistair didn't waste his time rebuking the impertinent elf, Valla, instead he thought maybe he should have stayed on the South Hook side--his pantry would be empty, but he wouldn't be subjected to such innane questioning about real estate and other matters that some were too lazy to undertake themselves. When Bosk began his line of questioning, Alistair remained quiet until he was finished, then corrected him, "The name is Alistair, not Allister. As to what I saw, it was obvious to me that Jacob didn't have much time. Instead of wandering about the whole of the Sargrass plains without a sense of where to go, the logical starting point would be with Jacob's father. As for Temujin, I don't care what you do with him he is not my concern nor my responsibility--but he can't stay here. If you take him to the city guards, it will take you hours of questioning and depositions, if you're lucky. If that's the route you choose, then I cannot take you with me, as I will have already left--in fact, I'm going to gather my traveling kit and will be leaving in a minute or two." Saying that and having finished his search for any errant worms, Alistair leaves the parlour and walks down a hallway out of sight--an aggravated old man's gait in his walk.
When Bosk asks about Yosef, Numitor's sister and the children, Tem nods his head to the affirmative but then looks confused about Bosk's extrapolation of the events that might occur. When asked if he accepted the worm willingly, Tem once again nods to the affirmative. When asked why and further asked why would Yosef change his mind, Temujin closed his eyes and thought about how to answer--his mind was still cloudy and he had to remember he was not Jacob, but Temujin the enforcer.
"In order to be inducted into the Order of R'lyeh, you had to accept the worm. In exchange for becoming a member of the Order, we were promised wealth and dominion over other men--that in time we would become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy. It was a lie. Vellinius used the worms to enslave us, to further his own desires, his greed, his lust. Whether or not the Old Ones exist is unknown to me, I have never seen them or felt their presence in the Wold--this is what the others learned as well and they sought a remedy to their curse and they found it in the brain mole you have in your possession. When Vellinius learned of their treachery by torturing Numitor, he tasked me to find the mole and destroy it. He said he would reseed the traitors that had already undergone the procedure and I was not to harm them, that pleasure was his alone. But then we told me to bring in Jacob, good Jacob, to be inducted into the Order. I told him no, that I would not do such a thing. Vellinius tortured me until I agreed, but I had lied to the Master of Dreams. When I was able to, after I warned Jacob, I cut the worm from my head with the axe from the strongbox. The axe! That what was in the strongbox--and still is!" Pointing to the strongbox, "It lies under the worm infested brains."
After a moment, Temujin continued, "When I awoke from the blackness, my mind, it was cloudy, still is. I knew I had to find protection against Vellinius until I could get into the city." As Temujin said this, he slowly turned into Jacob. "I was a mere grass farmers son, well learned in many things, but Mudtown was dangerous and I needed to hide for a few days before I could get to see my old friend Alistair. Then later I was beset upon by that gnome, but luckily you guys saved me." Jacob's smile was genuine, but then twisted as he shook his head violently and became once more, Temujin. "Ach. Later, later that night, I decided to continue my quest to finish the order. One by one I would kill them all for what they had done to so many innocents. Vile and evil people they were; Numitor, his sister and their children," Temujin paused, hoping the group would understand what he implied about Numitor and his sister without having to say it aloud. "They were the worst, they were also the most devout. They planned to start their own Order, without Vellinius, and I believe it was they who started the initial search to acquire the brain mole. Numitor was rewarded with his treachery I surmise, but I'm not certain of the fact, as I have not read Vellinuis' mind since last I saw him over a week ago." Sighing, Tem looked to the others and asked a rhetorical question, "What else is there left to be said?"
Bosk takes this all in and politely asks Alistair a favor when he returns from down the hall, to which the wizard replies, "Not today, that was my only scrying spell as I do not make it a habit to intrude where I'm not wanted." In this light the man did look old; He had put on a weathered old cloak, changed his shoes for boots, had a backpack on and was holding a staff made of alabaster stone--his head was unadorned but for a small interwoven gold headband, most likely of elven crafting.
"Have you decided?" Alistair asked, obviously impatient to leave.
As Ransy had listened to the entire explanation, he had also been searching the area around the box for any stray worms that had escaped while it had been opened. His search had been rewarded by finding a lone worm crawling under the lip of a lamp base.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:6/7 Thursday February 11th, 2010 7:52:31 PM
Beriothian turns and addresses Alistair.
I think we are probably all comfortable with taking Temujin with us as long as he is under the constant watch of Maikill, though I must insist that Temujin share with us how he was able to sneak out each night undetected so that we can make sure this trickery is not employed again at a future date. Also, Maikill, I trust you to be able to carry out your duty with Temujin should he try to betray us, the fact he could pretend to be your mother won't affect this will it.
Beri turns to Temujin and adds in a serious, but very non-threatening manner
Just so we are clear Temujin, I don't take you as the type of person who would betray our trust like that, but if you were to do so we would leave you at the mercy of Xeron's dagger.
Temujin Thursday February 11th, 2010 8:02:51 PM
"I loosened one of the bars on the window of the child's room where I was sleeping," the doppelganger replies, "then turned into a very skinny child and snuck through. When I came back, I replaced it." Temujin merely nods at Beri's statement about Xeron's dagger.

Also, Alistair, while you were gone Temujin said he was bringing you an axe which is under the brains. I don't know if it is relevant, but I thought I should tell you. He said he used it to cut the worm out of his head.
As he waits for Alistair's reaction, Bosk tries his best to sense Alistair andTemujin's sincerity and motives. In the past few days he has had too many people turn out to be something other than they seemed and paranoia was beginning to get the better of him.
If Ransy does not kill the worm, Bosk will point it out to Alistair and ask permission to crush it with his axe handle. He will then ask if the box of brains should be destroyed to prevent others from becoming infected.

Maikill's knuckles turn white as his grip on the axe handle tightens.
"You know where find him? He was close when we fight gnome. You help me find him. He die, maybe he die slow not fast."
Temujin Friday February 12th, 2010 2:12:47 AM
Alistair looks at the strongbox, "I do not wish to open it here, again. If we're taking Temujin, then he can carry it in his pack as he's been doing."
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 19(20) Friday February 12th, 2010 4:04:03 AM "It seems that all has been decided: we go to Jacob's dad to start the rescue mission for Jacob and Temujin comes with us, along with the strongbox, although maybe we should clean out the worms and the brains as soon as we have a chance. If it's ok with the rest of the group, I'll help Maikill keep an eye on Temujin. So, what are we waiting for?".
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Friday February 12th, 2010 9:31:17 AM
Xeron's expression on his face does not change as more of the puzzle is revealed.
He looks at Tumijin "Just to make sure I understand. Numitor' sister, Yosef wife is part of the cult like the children? OR are they innocent? If they are culting, we need to warm Sanji and the others." He stops and looks at the doppledanger "If I ever found out you lied to us, you will wish you had died of your own wounds ...."
He approache Maikill "So Big Guy, seems like you have the identity of your mother's killer. Count me in. I am this thing about killer of defenseless women. And trust me, I can help you make him die slow. " He smiles, a cruel smile at the idea of exacting his revenge by proxy on Maikill's uncle.
When Alistair comes back of goes back against the wall. "As ready as I am going to be. By the way, should we burn these worn infested brains? I woud hate for one of us to be contaminated by accident."
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 Friday February 12th, 2010 1:29:12 PM
Valla listens and nods along with Bosk and the others. Admitting defeat when it came to getting rid of Temujin. He'll be coming right along it seems...
When the truth comes out about Maikills mothers' killer, Valla shows a grim face, looking at Maikill Im in as well Maikill. Who ever killed your mother is just as bad as Vellinus to me. We'll track him down. But make sure you keep your eyes on the doppleganger. He's not to be out of your sight buddy.
Valla gives Temujin a sneer; but says nothing. With Alistair coming back into the room Valla taps his staff on the floor; checks his pack for both his scrolls and makes sure his sword is secure, same for his bow and quiver. Im ready as well, and yes I think as soon as we get outside we should burn the brains and worms. Keep the chest, Temujin can carry it too. As for the axe inside, I think we should look at it, If its not for Alistair, maybe Maikill should use it. He's an axe man! Valla smiles at his attempt to jest, looking around to see if anyone else thought it funny as well.
Maybe these people will turn out better than I thought, Temujin is always shady to me though...
While waiting for everyone else to ready themselves, Valla says one final though, as soon as we can, I want to inquire about the tower we saw on the way here. If were leaving the city on foot, I say we stop there on the way out. It won't take but a minute.
Temujin Friday February 12th, 2010 1:55:56 PM
Temujin looks at Xeron and looks perplexed, "No, uh, yes. I mean, Yosef and Numitor's sister are not married, those are not Yosef's children. Numitor's sister and children are part of Yosef's new cult, no worm required."
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 Friday February 12th, 2010 3:39:01 PM
Valla shakes his head is disbelief... you mean to tell me, We just sent Yosef and the others to a new town, to start a new cult in? One just as bad as Vellinus's??? looking at Xeron, still shaking his head from side to side; That was a bright idea... huh?

Ransi calls out: worm, there! and drawing his sword he points it towards a point under the lamp, while moving towards it. Whether or not he will attack the worm, depends on: 1. it's size: if it is 2 inches or smaller, he will just watch it closely and make sure it can't get close to anybody. 2. other people blocking his way.
If it is larger that 2 inch and the path is free, Ransy will attack it with his sword, taking care not to hit the lamp. attack 23. (OOC: do I need to roll for damage?)
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 d20=4 ; Friday February 12th, 2010 4:58:27 PM
Xeron looks at Temujin with displeasure. "Why did you let us send the evil sister and children to a new town where they can do their evil deed? Wait .. may be it was all a trick .. Yosef wanted to strart his new cult but needed to get rid of the worm and tricked us into it ... this is double, triple and quadruple crossing. I am afraid we have doomed that village. Can our priests use detect good once in a while? So what do we do about these 4 now? And how can se tell if the doppledanger is lying or not?"
Sense motiveL 1d20 + 0 = 4 (great!)
He shakes his head, showing that he is upset at what has occured. He was the one who convinced the group to save Numitor/Yosef for Good and he might have unleashed some Evil. May be he should stick to killing when instructed and stop showing initiative.
Jacob, Temujin and Alistair Friday February 12th, 2010 6:12:07 PM
Momentarily changing into Jacob, "I'm very sorry Xeron, I did not know, I'm not Temujin when I'm like this." Changing back to the form of the doppleganger, "He does not know me, but I know him."
"Gah! Don't kill it, hold on!" Alistair collects a small bottle out of his backpack and fishes the white bulbous inch worm into the bottle and corks it tightly. Looking at it for a moment, "Later..." he murmurs and puts it into his backpack. "Well, whoever is going, I'm leaving, so the door is that way. Temujin, you can't go out like that, turn into Jacob if you must, but know I can see what you really are." Alistair raises his finger and blows on it, "So behave."

Grendel just shakes her head. "Let's get going." As much as she has longed for Hook City she'll have to wait for another day. With all of the lies and disguises, maybe Hook City is not the place she thought it was.
After the whole incident with Maikill, Grendel speaks to him quietly. "You know I am a cleric of Flower. She is the goddess of family. Can you imagine how she would feel about your desire to kill your uncle?" After pausing a moment to give Maikill a chance to reflect, her demeanor changes. Her face shaking with a controlled rage her tones grow harsh and husk, "That your uncle could kill his own sister... Flower would have him flayed alive for such a betrayal... a rage only a mother who has suffered loss can feel. Justice will be meeted out to your uncle... slowly." and with that she turns on a heel, her hands balled into fists, showing an agitation more common to her orc ancestry at the moment.

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:6/7 Friday February 12th, 2010 11:41:58 PM
Beriothian asks Temujin one last question Since you are able to read minds, can you tell us anything about about the young mute lady we rescued from the locker? While we strive to help whose in need there was still something odd about her. For all we know right now she was Vellinus using that helmet of disguise.
After hearing the answer Beri tells Alistair that they he is ready.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Saturday February 13th, 2010 5:15:19 AM
Although he is glad that he has spotted the worm before it could attach itself to anybody, Ransy wonders silently about Magister Alistair. Catching worms now, are you? I hope you're not in league with Vellinius. And what about that box with infested brains, you're going to leave it here?
aloud he says to Magister Alistair: I am ready to leave, but shouldn't we burn those brains in the box?
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Saturday February 13th, 2010 10:38:04 AM
Xeron believes Temujin apologies (previous failed sense motive roll). "It is okay. It is just additional unfinished business. Although it would eat me inside out if anyone in that village will get hurt because of what we did."
When Beri asks the question about the woman they rescued, Xeron seconds the question "Was she really mute or was she a weird creature pretending to be a woman and could not speak common?"
================================================================================ OOC: Xeron is ready to go after Jacob but feels very guilty about sending the culting to that poor village.
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 Saturday February 13th, 2010 1:23:41 PM
Valla nods his head to Alistair. Ready to go as well. The brains need to be disposed of. Nothing good can come from keeping a box of worm infested brains. He says aloud, on his way to Xeron; he pats the rogue on the back, Its ok friend. We did what we thought was the best, and most good intended, thing to do. Saving the lives of four innocent people is what we thought we were doing. Now that its been thrown back into our face, we should not be so ready to believe everything everyone says to us anymore.
Valla's face turns back to its grimful self. He walks out the door quietly, only stopping by the tower long enough to ask a few questions.

Pampas grass, all dry crumbles apart water and sky... - Hakukin 1817
Temujin thinks about it for a moment before answering, "She was thinking about returning to her family, that's all I know."
After being ushered out of his home, Alistair locked his door with a mundane key, then heads in a direction opposite of Valla's tower. The sun beat down unmercilessly on the group, it's almost unbearable warmth permeating months and years of being saturated in perpetual rainfall. This and the discontent about this turn of events, Valla is about to protest when the group reaches the Marble Causeway only in one block of walking--it would seem Jacob had taken the long way around. Temujin, prior to exiting Alistairs with the worm-infested brain strongbox now back in his backpack, had turned into Jacob for the trip.
Traveling East toward Market Bridge, the group passes an outpost of the Woldian League of Adventurers on the left side, and a recruiting office of the Mailed Fist opposite it on the right side of the causeway--both seem of interest to Bosk, but Alistair has neither the time nor inclination to stop for anyone to investigate any further other than a casual glance as they walk by. Looking back, Alistair tells Cesar he will have to stable his horse or give it away, it cannot go where they are heading. His timely suggestion comes as they pass a stable--coincidence, I think not. Quickly Cesar finds out that it's 10gp a day to stable his horse, there is no haggling on the matter. The place inside looks a hundred times better than the one in Mudtown, so he's assured that his horse will be well cared for if he judges it by looks alone.
Alistair continues to lead the group, but at a critical juncture, he heads down and around to the right, under the stairs and magical elevator that takes people up to the Market Bridge--instead he leads the group down into Labor Town. Forgetting himself a little, and lightening up as he got back into the swing of being Jacob again, Temujin-disguised as Jacob, spoke. "On both sides of the river is a district known as Labor Town. Before the Great Migration, the farmers who lived here used to work the edge of the Sargassi plains and herd animals that lived here. Also, others who live here do so by earning their living by the fruit of their own labors. This is the poorest part of the entire city; It is very much like a merchants quarter in most other cities and only slightly above the level of wealth of Mudtown, but that slight advantage of wealth is quite noticeable." The streets are lain with cobblestone, worn and uneven, but it's better than a slope of wet mud to try and traverse in the rain.
As Jacob had stated earlier when the group had first entered Hook City, the denizens of Labor town had taken to painting the walls of their houses in varying colors of orange, blue and other vibrant combinations. The effect was joyful and beautiful at the same time. Little shops and homes were passed on the way as Alistair lead them all to the docks that now rested in a calm harbor, made so by the fact that South Hook was completely surrounded by the endless sea beyond and formed a breakwater from the incoming tide for the docks here on North Hook and on their side. Alistair quickly buys passage across the small harbor to the west side of South Hooks docks in their sister side of Labor town. The East side of Labor town, even though it was the West side of South Hook, seemed a bit more opulent, maybe because they were on a richer side of town. For all the glories and edifices and sheer cleanliness of North Hook, it paled in comparison to South Hook--magic was the staple here, and it was rich fare. Walking up and out of Labor town into South Hook, into Magic City, the buildings were also white, but on this side it was not white stucco plaster that covered the buildings, the buildings themselves were made of white marble--every one of them.
There was no Marble Causeway as there was in North Hook, no need for it as all the streets here were covered in white marble--it was as if the entire City of Magic had been carved out of a mountain of white marble. As Alistair traveled onward east, toward the city docks, Jacob remained silent--but his gaze was upon all and everything. One of the first shops that caught the groups eye was the Catacombs--the Woldwide shop for all things magical and mundane. Even if Alistair wanted to stop there, he did not, he knew if he did it could take hours to complete one order and that was precious time they did not have. Other various shops and homes were passed along the way--some of the shops discretely advertising lower prices than the Catacombs. It was about then that the group noticed that only a handful of people were actually walking on the streets. Most were in horseless carriages, that is to say, carriages that had no obvious means of locomotion; Flying carpets and floating cushions. The sight of the latter reminded the group of their first employer, Venbolio Penn. If he did indeed live on this side of the city, he was far richer than they ever had thought. Another place that brought great attention to those of it's inclination in the group, and even to Alistair, was the Star Mages Guild. It's headquarters were here and it was an impossibly thin and tall minaret. "It's incredibly large on the inside," Alistair quipped, seeing the questions flooding the eyes of those looking upon it.Near the center of the city was a huge castle with four massive minarets--one on each corner of the square shaped fortress. "That's the abode of the Council of Four," Alistair says as he see's several in the group eyeing it. "At it's center, the golden dome there, that controls the weather in all of Hook City--quite a feat of magic if I do say so myself." Alistair remained quiet after that, leading the group still further into Magic City and to the docks.
The pace of the old man seemed to grow less and less the farther they traveled. Alistair was obviously old, and he was definitely feeling it walking such a long distance. After passing through the city wall that surrounded the North, South and East side of the city, the group had reached the docks. It's wooden piers and warehouses bustling with activity, the smell of the sea filled the lungs of the group. It was quite different than the smell of the city, which was pristine, clean and ineffectual--this smelled like life, unabashed life, with all it's smells and sounds and dirt--the weather control tower did not hold sway here, as was also the case in Mudtown. Looking out at the vast sea, Alistair murmured something said once by a great man, "We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far." Saying this, the old man headed South and upon reaching a small wooden building, with no identifiable markings on it's exterior, Alistair brought out a key and unlocked the front door. Heading inside and waiting for everyone else to enter before he closed and locked the door again, the old man went to and opened a trap door in the corner of the rather small room. With so many people inside, it was rather cramped. Heading down first into the bowels of the docks, he waited for the rest before telling the last to close the trap door behind them. With an audible click, it locked behind them with having anyone make an effort of doing so.
Darkness enclosed the group as the trap door was closed, but Alistair brought out an everburning torch from his backpack, which was enough to light the way. The group was in a small tunnel lined with slate or some other dark type of stone material. It's walls weeped with moisture and the smell was damp and moldy as they traveled deeper into the earth. Passing a series of tunnels and offshoots, some that were caved in and others that looked like they were intentionally blocked off, the group with Alistair in the lead finally end their travel in a small chamber. In this chamber was a single large door, which looked to be made of stone as the rest of the room. "Beyond this door is the depths of the vast sea we saw above. Prior to the Great Migration, it opened up to the ground level of the Sargrass Plains. Since that time, it is as it is now, yet, with the right words of magic, we have found that such doors can still lead to the Sargrass Plains." Motioning for the group to step back and to give him some room, the wizard placed his left hand on the center of the door and incanted powerful words of magic. The outline of the door glowed with magic, then sigils and runes began to glow all along the interior of the door forming a magic circle upon it's surface. Stepping back once his words were said, he opened the door and sunlight flooded into the room. "After you," Alistair motioned.
The group found themselves on the shore of a river, startling a small flock of prarie birds, "Blind swallows they are," Jacob says, as the flock takes to flight over the 10ft tall sargrass. Alistairs steps out into the riverbank and turns to close the door behind him. Just before he closes it, he marks it's location by digging a hole with his foot into the ground and dropping a gold piece into it. Stamping the dirt over it to secure it's place, Alistair closes the door and it slowly vanishes from view--leaving nothing but the sight of the river behind it. Alistair quickly pulls out a handkerchief and asks everyone to make some room. On the ground he opens the handkerchief to reveal a 6ft. diameter portable hole, as he calls it. "I cannot take everyone and I don't have the spells today to go back and forth to ferry everyone, so four of you must step into the hole and be carried there. The Taur is too large, so he cannot enter it. Also, if anyone has a bag of holding, or any other type of magical extra-dimensional item on their person, they cannot enter the portable hole either, unless they wish to kill themselves and everyone else inside. In you go." As Alistair waits for the four to enter, he turns and says to Jacob, "Change into something else, we cannot appear at Master Halfdane's doorstep with you looking like his son, Jacob. Temujin thinks about it for a while and turns into one of guards he saw patrolling the streets of North Hook. Once the four were inside, Alistair folds over the ends of the portable hole until it's fully closed and formed once again into a handkerchief, which he neatly stuffs inside his robe. "Hang on. Yes, I mean that literally, hold each others hand. You, Taur, put you hand on my shoulder and take care not to jostle me lest you want to end up as part of a tree or mated badly with a Rapke." Alistair cleared his mind and invoked the words of his spell, "Absentis!"
With a flash of light and a gutwrenching drop, the group find themselves standing in a large clearing in the Sargrass Plains. In the center of the clearing is an enourmous tree, it's branches forming a canopy some 100ft. in diameter. Around the base of this tree is a compound of various buildings and corrals. People are working here and there as Alistair takes out the handkerchief, opens it with a rush of air and lets those inside, out. Picking it back up and folding it back into a handerkerchief, Alistair begins to walk toward the main building and is soon met by armed guards and the lord of manor.
"Master Alistair! By the gods, it's good to see you, your presence is much needed! Jacob has gone missing three days now and I've not a clue where he could be." "Yes, Master Halfdane," Alistair responds, "I have seen where he is, with the help of these men and women here." Alistair motions to the group. "Most fortunate indeed," Halfdane replies, and steps forward to introduce himself and shake the hands of each person in the group. He seems very down to earth and not a noble priss that some were expecting. "Will you help me find my son?"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Sunday February 14th, 2010 6:26:38 PM
Xeron walks around Hook City utterly unimpressed. When Alistair mentions the weather magic device, he says nothing but thinks to himself "Darn rich pampered spoiled brat! His stupid nice weather is making Mud Town always raining and he is proud of it. What a Jerk"
When Alistair asks for volunteers for the hankerchief, he takes a steps back indicating that he is not getting in. If it is a deal breaker, so be it.
Assuming, there were 4 volunteers, when he opens his eyes and the Sargass Plains, he is flabbergasted. This is the first time in his life he has left Mud Town/Hook City. He has never seen a tree this big and a rare look of surprise can be seen on his usually stern face.
He watches the poor father and just nods at his request. The absense of walls and windows is a strange sensation for the rogue.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:6/7 Sunday February 14th, 2010 6:45:34 PM
Beriothian emerges from the portable hole and find himself in front of a giant tree, even bigger than the ones that grow in his home town. He listens silently as Halfdane talks with Alistair and then shakes Halfdane's hand.
It's a pleasure to meet you Master Halfdane. We will do all in our power to bring Jacob back to you.
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Sunday February 14th, 2010 9:22:21 PM
There are a million things Grendel would do in Hook City, but for now that all has to wait. Before departing Alistair's she touches her hat of disguise and murmurs, "Shizzle-bop" while imagining a human version of herself, a bit easier on the eyes as well... dressed in a formal gown of Flower, with her holy symbol prominently displayed.
As she walks through the city she makes note of a great multitude of things to do later. Though she is obviously discouraged from not having a chance to explore right now, she now has a long list of possibilities to ponder over during this next adventure. When Alistair requests four volunteers, Grendel will agree to do so. "I've always wanted to see what a pocket dimension of the astral felt like..." and jumps in with great enthusiasm.
Once the pocket dimension is re-opened she climbs out, not finding the experience to open any new vistas of thought on topics esoterical or arcane. Grendel nods to Mr. Halfdane, "Aye, we're a group of protectors from Hook City. We'll help you find Jacob. Time is short though, what can you tell us?"
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Sunday February 14th, 2010 9:37:50 PM
Maikill is still seething inside and finds little joy in the wonders of Hook City. He follows along, on edge and ready for a fight. When Grendel decides to enter the space, he joins her. Perhaps there are dimensional monsters to fight. Regrettably, there are none. He exits the hole and quietly waits for a chance to fight.
Master Halfdane Monday February 15th, 2010 2:38:54 AM
"What can I tell you?" Halfdane says rhetorically, "Well, four days ago, a day after returning from Hook City with some cockamamy story about befriending a doppelganger and it running off with the strongbox I sent him there with, Jacob meets this girl. She was pretty she was, but not from around here. She was from a neighboring farm and she seemed to know everything about that farm, and she was looking for work, but I'm not hiring, not since the Great Migration screwed all of us and move us out to the middle of nowhere with no large city to do trade with. Damn the eyes of those that did this to us." The man sighs and apologizes for his outburst in front of his guests. "Then the next day Jacob is gone, leaves us a note that he's run off with this girl. But I sent a few of my men to the farm she was from, they came back yesterday and said they never heard of her. So I've sent out search parties, but no luck yet."
"Interesting," Alistair murmurs, "I scried Jacob and saw he was deep in the earth, at the base of a Druids tree." "A druids tree? Well then, that gives us something to go on. There are only a few Druids trees within three days of here, four in fact. What do you think we should do, Al? Uh, Master Alistair." Alistair smiles when he's referred to as 'Al' and turns to the group, "Any suggestions?"
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 19(20) Monday February 15th, 2010 6:19:37 AM
(Cesar leaves his horse at the stables)
The young adventurer stares with wide-eyed wonder at all he sees along the journey, like a child in the world's largest toyshop - the colors of Labor town and the pure white marble of Magic city, the portable hole where he steps with an mixed look of fear and joy and the immense Sargrass plain.
[...]
"Good day sir, my name is Cesar", he politely presents himself to master Halfdane, "I believe we don't have a way of knowing which of the four Druid trees we should be heading for, so do you have a way of showing us where these trees are, so we may decide from which one to start our search?"
"Or yet again... has anyone of these trees been the argument of some chit-chat lately? Something that might make one stick out more than the others?"
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Monday February 15th, 2010 8:12:03 AM
Grendel observes the large tree at the base of this little village or farm. "Is that tree considered a 'Druids Tree' and are they all so obviously large? If so I suggest we check this tree first, then move on to the next and so on as quickly as possible."
Looking to 'Al' she says, "I'm not familiar with the Sargrass plains. Any knowledge you'd wish to share with us that you deem pertinent to our search would be well recieved and most helpful Magister."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Monday February 15th, 2010 9:57:24 AM
Completely out of his element, Xeron stays silent. The plain and the big tree is not a sight that is making him comfortable. Give him urban walls and streets anytime.
He listens in silence when the group discuss the next step. 4 trees? Well if they had 4 houses to hit in Mud Town, he would hit the nearest one first, then the second nearest one and so on. Or if he was a ranger he would follow the tracks, not that any tracks stay in Mud Town for long.
Yep, this is not his environment. Not at all. He looks around and already misses the familiarity of the mud, the rain and the poverty around. This is a strange place. He feels completely useless.
He is happy internaly that the rest of the group has adapted so quickly to the new decor.
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 Monday February 15th, 2010 2:40:49 PM
Valla nearly bursts into an outrage when he sees that "Jacob" took the long route to Alistairs, and he didn't get a chance to inquire about the tower... All is well... I'll have my day..
When the group finally gets into Magic City; Valla is overwhelmed. Staring, no, gawking at the marble buildings and the weather tower as well. The tower may be giving the people of mud town a rough time, but it surly is a grand invention.
He also makes mental notes of the magic shops inside Magic City. Catcombs; a few others. We must come back here, soon too! Were missing out on so much, but Jacob is our priority as of right now...
He steps forward to be the 4th person in the portable hole, arcane ways of traveling or hiding are always the best!
When 'popping' out of the hole and onto the Sargrass plains, Valla look all around and takes in the view. It feels good to be out of town, and back into the wilderness again. A city is no place for a elf my friends.
When Halfdane introduces himself, Valla shakes the mans hand with strength behind it; Im Valla; elven wizard, and somewhat of a scholar. Of course we'll help find your son. Protecters and investigators is what we are.
After his reply, he starts checking out the tree a bit more, and listens intently to Halfdane's comments on the Druid Trees. Is there a map, or some way you can show us where each tree is; distance between them and what not?
He thinks for a minute. Ran off with a girl ey? Sounds like a human to me...
Where is this farm? Is it near one of the Druid Trees?. Maybe its possible that the girl is the one behind his capture... Thoughts Grendel, Bosk?
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells d20=16 ; Monday February 15th, 2010 2:49:36 PM
As the group travels towards the Market Bridge, Bosk is immediately drawn to the outpost of the Woldian League of Adventurers. If it wasn't for the groups hurry and Alistair's complete lack of interest the Horned Cleric would have stopped in for more information. As the group continues on he tries to hide his disappointment. Maybe when we return I will have the 2,000 gold initiation fee for the League of Adventurers. I suppose the Mailed Fist could help me to earn the gold, I only wish I knew if the rumors were true....
Bosk is lost in his thoughts of the WLA and the honor associated with bearing their badge until Alistair pulls out his portable hole. For the second time that day Bosk hides his disappointment. Although he assumes the alternative is walking to their destination, the disappointment comes from the fact that he is curious about what the inside of the hole might be like. Fortunately his curiosity about the plains and his chance to see the lands home to so many of the stories heard during his clerical training is more than enough to keep his spirits up. In fact, he is taken aback when Alistair instructs him to place a hand on his shoulder. Smiling slightly, he does as he is told excited about experiencing the magic first hand and sure he will have time to see more of the plains during the course of their journey.
Upon arriving at their destination Bosk looks around the clearing trying to recall all he knew about the plains. Where are we? Is this a Druid Tree? As he tries to recall any information from the stories he heard, he realizes that the stories contained many lessons on bravery, morals and even caution, but that they contained little information that could not have been learned elsewhere.
As Master Halfdane speaks, the Cleric wonders whether they should confirm Jacob's story and reveal the presence of the doppelganger or not. He then wonders why Jacob would be bringing Alistair an axe that needed to be secured in a strong box and why he let the doppleganger hang on to it rather than taking it. Surely it was sent to Alistair for a reason. Master Halfdane, can you tell us what was in the strongbox Jacob had, where it was being sent, and why it needed to be protected in a strongbox?

Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Monday February 15th, 2010 5:05:37 PM
Ransy is astonished at all the white marble and luxuries in Hook City. On the one hand, he admires it, but on the other he also finds it injust that they don't share any of it with the poor people in Mud Town. How can there be such a great difference and the rich not doing anything? Astonishing.
He is happy to meet Master Halfdane, I am just a humble servant of Domi, but I would like to help find Jacob. The Exalted Champion of the Gods has granted me the ability to detect evil, and if Jacob is held by an evil witch, I can probably detect her evil spells, once I am close to her. If she is among the roots of a druid tree, then perhaps the whole tree has been corrupted from within? In that case, I might be able to detect it.
Questions... Monday February 15th, 2010 5:13:49 PM
When asked if there was a way of showing the group where the Druid Trees are, Master Halfdane says he has several men, expert trackers, that can show you the way. Grendel's query about the large tree in the center of the clearing brings some concern, Halfdane explains that it is indeed a Druids Tree and is bonded to his missing son Jacob. Alistair interrupts and says, "There's no need to search this tree, the one I saw where Jacob was had no buildings about it. Further, the witch I saw was rather...repulsive, I doubt she was the one who lured Jacob away, unless she employed magics to disguise herself--something we are quite familiar with. So I would surmise there are more than one witch, perhaps a coven." Alistairs gaze turned to Grendel and he smiled briefly. "As for the plains, they're very dangerous, take care not to spill any water on the ground, unless you want an encounter with some of the creatures that roam these plains."
"The distance between the trees? Well, they happen to be about equidistant from here, each a half days travel. One to the North, East, South and West." When asked about the farm, Halfdane replies, "It lays about a day away to the Northwest."
Confusion covered Halfdane's face when Bosk asked about the strongbox, "What has that to do with my missing son? Do you think it's linked to his disappearance somehow? That makes no sense to me, he was here without the strongbox when he went missing, I don't understand this line of questioning." Alistair interjects, "Do not worry yourself about it Master Halfdane, we have the strongbox in our possession and I will see to it's examination while your son's searchers are well on their way." Turning to the group, "Since the trees are about equally distant from here, which one will you go to first, if that is your intention?" Halfdane interrupts by saying, "I have enough men here to send to two of the trees, the rest are still out searching for my son."
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 19(20) Monday February 15th, 2010 5:44:37 PM "We should split the group in two then. Who will come with me to the tree lying closest to the north?"
Alistair Monday February 15th, 2010 6:52:31 PM
"Splitting up is never a good idea," quips Alistair, "I will take only a couple of your men, Halfdane, perhaps only one to show me where the tree is, that way we can cover all the trees at once."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells d20+3=17 ; d20+3=8 ; d20+3=18 ; Monday February 15th, 2010 7:27:19 PM Seems to me like there may be a connection between a axe that is locked up and in need of body gaurds and a corrupt tree. Does he not see this, know something we don't, or does he not trust Master Halfdane? Perhaps I cannot trust Alistair? Great, a week in Mud Town and I trust no one.
Bosk takes a moment to observe the Halfdane, Alistair and Temujin in hopes of understanding and trusting them a little better.

As Beriothian ponders this it occurs to him that perhaps he is the one being naive trusting these strangers. Mudtown hadn't exactly shown itself to be a place where things are as they first appear. Beri tries to see what. if anything, it is that Bosk has picked up on.

Maikill says, swaying side to side so as to move his balance from left to right and back again. He holds his axe, and give a few swipes of a stone against the edge.
"When we done, we go back to Mudtown. Kill uncle Serjan."
Halfdane Tuesday February 16th, 2010 1:53:17 AM
"Each group will have a Great Ranthom with a driver that knows the way." Seeing the group does not know what a Great Ranthom is, he explains, "It is a huge grazing animal about the size of a large Orca Whale. It has no teeth. Instead, it has something like an open scoop for a mouth, with the bottom edge being razor sharp. This animal has huge forelegs, but where the back legs should be there is a strange rolling appendage. Traveling through the 10ft. high sargrass is a difficult feat, but walking behind one of these and the way will be made much easier."

Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 7:18:31 AM
Xeron is confused by the plan but does not show it. He will go where the group go. The idea of tall grass amd dry land is hard for him to get an handle on it. Where is the Mud ? Where are the walls and shadows? He has spent all in life in Mud Town and when he went into Hook City, he was not impressed because of his hate for the rich magical city and its effect on the poor Mud Town.
But this is different. Open sky. Tall grass. Weird animal. He is definitively out of his elements so he will go with the flow with the goal to survive. Thankfully, each time his eyes see Alistair, he feels grounded as his dislike for the powerful rich inhabitant of grounds him.
When Maikill talks about killing his uncle, the rogue finally speaks. "Got that right Maikill. This will be fun. But remember, your uncle will have a sloooooooooooooow death .... He lets a little smile appear before adding "And we need to deal with the Yosef situation. Hate to kill woman and children but they are evil culstists.......

Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 19(20) Tuesday February 16th, 2010 7:58:51 AM
Hearing all this talk about killing makes Cesar frown: "Why does everyone seem to want to kill someone?", he begins, "They might have committed the most hyenous crimes, but I don't think killing is the only solution... it does seem the simplest, but I just don't like the idea... can't we kind of teach them a lesson, throw them in some cellar and leave them there to think about it for some years?"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 9:55:53 AM
Xeron looks at Cesar and replies in a plain tone of voice "Cesar, evil does not change. Evil takes advantage of good weakness. Putting an evil cultist in jail will not make him change his mind. Putting an orc murderer of a defenless human woman will not change his mind or make him feel bad about it. Quite the contrary. I understand how this can be hard to understand for a believer from a foreign land but this is Mud Town .... well this is the big tall grass area but back in Mud Town, this is way it sadly. "
He turns his face toward Alistair, despising even the man more for the cruel and evil place Hook City made out of Mud Town. In a military style voice he says 'Old Man, what do you exactly remember from the scrying? I believe we do not have the luxury to visit all 4 trees. We pick one and it has to be the right one or Jacob will be the main ingredient for a stew. So any information you have could help us decide which tree to go to. To me all these trees and grass look the same .... "
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 9:57:46 AM
Grendel chuckles at Cesar. "Couldn't agree more. But when the poo hits the wind, you want to keep yourself surrounded by killers because our enemies are not taking prisoners. Once the battle is done, we do the best we can to patch up any survivors. I don't pretend to play Gargul though and choose who lives or dies, I just keep the living alive as much as I can."
As she begins to walk off and head for the Druid's Tree she comments over her shoulder, "Stop being so uptight and reserve judgment until you see the good these men do on the field of battle to preserve your life friend. Flower keep you."
Alistair Tuesday February 16th, 2010 11:03:44 AM
Alistair raised an eyebrow when Xeron called him "Old Man," the cheek of some people, but he decided not to disintegrate him or turn him into a chicken at the moment. "Everything I saw, I told you. So, which tree is your group heading to? Also, I have a contingency spell to place upon one of you to message me your status, who shall take it?"
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 2:52:11 PM
Ransy asks Halfdane: Can't we ride atop the Great Ranthom instead of walking behind it? And has it been trained for combat? Or will it panick as soon as someone attacks us?
to Alistair and the group: I think we should go to the druid tree which is closest to the farm. Does the contingency spell hinder the one who takes it in any way? If not, then I am prepared to take it. I agree with Grendel: as long as the fight is going on, we can't afford to be non-violent. However, outright violent revenge is a bad thing.
Halfdane & Alistair Tuesday February 16th, 2010 3:39:52 PM
The lord of manor answers Ransy question rather matter-of-factly, "The Ranthom will only allow it's trainer to ride upon it. If anyone else were to try, well, they would probably get crushed as they have a tendency to rollover when aggravated, and no, it is not trained for combat but will defend itself if attacked."
"The closest tree to the farm is most likely the northern tree, right mi'lord Halfdane?" To which Halfdane nods, "Aye, but not by much, maybe an hour or so's travel." Alistair nods and then addresses Ransy's concern about the spell hindering him in any way, "It will not hinder you in any way, it will not even be noticeable to your normal vision, only magical sight can discern it's presence, but not it's purpose. Give me your arm." When Ransy complies, Alistair invokes the words of incantation and places a contingency spell on his right arm, then immediately on top of that he places a spell of the whispering wind. "When you reach the tree and discern whether or not it's the right one, please tap your arm here," pointing to the spot he placed the contingency spell, "three times and then immediately speak up to twenty five words and it will deliver it to me after some time. Anyone can tap your arm the three times to activate the spell, but whoever does so, must speak the words of the message."
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 4:08:21 PM
Ransy nods to Halfdane and thanks Master Alistair for the spells placed upon his arm and says:
unless anyone has a better idea, I think we should go to the north tree first and if that's not the right one, continue towards the west tree. I'll try to detect evil as soon as we get there. We'll investigate the area and as soon as we know about the witch, we'll report to Master Alistair by means of this whispering wind. If I am out, just tap my right arm here, three times and report. Right?
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 6:00:51 PM
Grendel clears her throat. "Of the four trees we are considering, how many have buildings surrounding them? From what we saw in Magister Alistair's scrying mirror, Jacob is lashed against a dirt wall with vines and there was an abundance of vermin about. Do any of these clues help us narrow down which of the Druid Trees this witch has Jacob captive? Let's not pick a tree at random."
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 6:09:06 PM
Maikill listens and wonders.
"If Ranthom rolls over grass, it make path. How long path last? Maybe we follow path made by Jacob?"
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 d20+3=15 ; d20+3=19 ; Tuesday February 16th, 2010 7:13:37 PM
Valla listens to his questions being answered; and nods at the information. So, to me it seems as though the trees were placed or grown in the places on purpose. Of course its probably irrelavant to our mission here, but none-the-less and interesting deal. The ways of a druid are very mysterious; exciting and sometimes magnificent. I long to find a wanderer to teach the ancient ways of nature.
Valla chuckles when Maikill and Xeron begin talking about the half-orcs uncle; then shakes his head when Beri begins talking about a 'non-viloent revenge'Are you serious? This mans uncle slaughtered his mother in cold blood! A murderer of any race is sentenced to death by the laws. What has mudtown done to your mind to make you think putting an evil orc in jail will help anything? No Cesar; Maikills uncle will have a slow death. Even if physical means aren't working, I'll surly lend my magic to help Xeron and Maikill achieve this goal...
There are a few things I need to do as well once were back into Hook City; I'd like to take a day to wander and get information. A day at least.
Then, getting back to the situation at hand; Valla agrees with Grendel; nodding his head to show this before adding; I think there must be some way to choose a tree, not a random choice. Mister Halfdane; which of the trees DO NOT have buildings in the immediate area? Or is there a possibility we could narrow our search on the amount of Vermin or is there anything near one of the trees that may attract vermin? If these clues don't help, or are irrelavant, I think we should start with the north tree, and then the west, east and southern... In that order.
The elf ponders a bit more, to himself, and then adds; I think the north or western tree would be our best bet. The woman who lured Jacob away, in my opinion; was probably the witch in disguise. Her 'village' lies to the northwest, meaning that would have been the way she lured Jacob. Thoughts anyone?
While waiting for reply's and what not, Valla racks his brain to see what he could remember about the Sargrass Plains through any books he's read.

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:6/7 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 8:13:46 PM
Beriothian shakes his head at Valla Why are you talking to my like I would be soft on a murder? True, if someone killed my mom I might not seek a death sentence but that's only because there are things in this world far worse than death.
Beri turns and addresses the rest of the group The north tree is the closest to the farm, so that does sounds like a good place to start since the witch had intimate knowledge about the farm. Also, if Jacob was following his girl he might have been suspicious if they headed in the opposite direction of her home.
I'm guessing if there were any tracks to follow that Halfdane would have found Jacob days ago. I too am curious about where one might find such vermin around these parts, the animals we saw do not appear to be typical of these plains.
ooc do we have anyone here with magical sight?
Bosk (Will posting for James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Tuesday February 16th, 2010 8:40:12 PM Murders may deserve to die, but it is Gargul's place to judge them, not ours.
Bosk looks at the Great Ranthom, impressed at the size of the mammoth beast, and for one of the few times in his life experiencing the feeling of being dwarfed by another.
Are there any rumors about witches or old hags on these plains? It sounds odd for there to be a coven of witches about and there not to be rumors of where they live
Halfdane Tuesday February 16th, 2010 9:01:22 PM
"None of the trees that buildings around them as far as I know. We're in a different situation here, in that my son Jacob is a Druid and is bonded to this tree, so he "allows" us to stay here." Halfdane chuckles at this last bit, but then quickly loses his mirth as he thinks about his son held captive deep under the earth. When Maikill asks about the Ranthom, Halfdane replies, "He did not take one of the beasts, as far as I can tell he left by foot, or maybe flew--he can wildshape." When the questioning turns to vermin, Halfdane and Alistair know little about them, no more than Valla does, since none of them are trained in that type of knowledge.
When Bosk asks about rumors and such, Halfdane shakes his head, "We're pretty much on our own out there. A couple times a year we may go visit one of the neighboring farms, usually around solstice if someone is throwing a big shindig, otherwise we keep to ourselves."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells Tuesday February 16th, 2010 11:04:39 PM Interesting, is Jacob both a monsterologer and a Druid then? Also, can you tell me who is bound to the other trees and anything that may distinguish them, particularly visually? That may help us identify the one we saw.
Halfdane Wednesday February 17th, 2010 12:24:16 AM
"Yes," answers Halfdane about his son being both a druid and monstrologer. "Who is bound to the other trees? No idea," replies Halfdane, "and as for what they look like, well, they're big trees--the only trees in the plains that can survive the choking grass."
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:12/13 Wednesday February 17th, 2010 1:08:12 AM I have one last question before we head out, are there any other farms that are closer to either the northern or western trees?
Halfdane Wednesday February 17th, 2010 1:45:57 AM
Halfdane answers, "There are only two others, but they are days away and to the South."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 Wednesday February 17th, 2010 9:31:15 AM
Xeron still half occupied by that giant tree, worried about this new environment of 10 feet tall grass (Where is the mud when you need it), is a little bit lost on the conversation about where to go.
Finally, he asks the following questions "I do not know anything about druids but can a druid be taken prisoner in his own tree? Also, the people at the farm claimed that they did not know the woman that stole Jacob's heart and mind. Considering it is the only building around the area, could it be possible they were, I don't know, like .... lying?"
His eyes ends on Alistair and although he knows that the wizard can blow him to smithereens, he resents the man as it reminds him of the injustice of the Mud Town/Hook City situation .....
Halfdane & Alistair Wednesday February 17th, 2010 12:11:52 PM
"Huh, I don't understand," stated Halfdane, "Jacob is not here so he can't be taken prisoner here. Still, I wouldn't know, I'm not a druid--it's not like they gain any special powers, or at least I'm not certain they do, Alistair?" The old man had noticed Xeron's gaze and some intense stares from others in the group. They sure are a jumpy group, he thought to himself. You would think they thought I was a demon spawn from hell based on the looks some have given me. Ah well, does one swat the fly for buzzing near him? No. When it lands on him or grows to annoyingly near, then yes, it's existence ends and creatures similar to these have short life spans anyways, so why should the man be bothered by the gaze of a fly. Alistairs attention was drawn when Halfdane asked him about the tree and subsequent lying, "I wouldn't know, we don't have time to investigate such matters, so the point is moot."
------ ooc: North tree or some other direction, let me know.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:12/13 Wednesday February 17th, 2010 12:52:10 PM I think we have already heard everything that will help us. The farm is not an option, we KNOW Jacob is under a tree. And even if the farm had clues as to which direction we need to go Jacob may not have the time for us to make such a detour. Unless there are any objections I say we get behind our Great Ranthom and get to that tree as fast as we can.
Beriothian adjusts his pack and gets ready to head out. While they have only spent a few minutes gathering information it feels like they are now just wasting time now while Jacob appears to be in extreme danger.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells Wednesday February 17th, 2010 2:01:01 PM
Bosk visibally relaxes a little, making it aparrent his trust those in around him and giving in to the fact that they either know somehing he doesn't or think differently than he does (Failed Sense Motive Check). One second Beri, I have a few more questions. Master Halfdane, we were told that there are four trees equidistance from here with one to the North, South, East, and West and that Jacob is bound to this central tree. Do you know if these trees have a special meaning or purpose, or if there is significants to Jacob's being bound to the central tree? We were also told that the farm is to the North West with two trees close by, I assume that this means it is the Western tree that is also close by. How far away from the farm exactly arre the two trees? If they are relatively similar distances to the farm, then we cannot automatically choose the Northern Tree over the Western Tree. Turning to Alistair he continues, Alistair, you seem to know more than anyone I have ever met on issues of magic. If Jacob is bound to the tree, is there any way to get it to indicate his cardinal direction. To determine from which direction the bond is strongest or something of that nature?
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Wednesday February 17th, 2010 5:06:44 PM
Ransy gets impatient from all these questions; are we here to save Jacob, or to learn all about druids and their trees? I think we should go now to the north tree. The other group, consisting of the workers from here, can go to the west tree. But let's not spill any more time with all these questions, while Jacob is in such grave danger.
Maikill HP 24/28, AC17 Wednesday February 17th, 2010 5:20:32 PM "No waste time with facts. We go now, I kill something soon."
Maikill is impatient as well, and is glad he isn't the only one who doesn't care where they go as long as they go somewhere. Besides, this is making his head hurt.
Maikill will follow along, not sure what has even happened over the last day. Maybe it is a dream.
Halfdane & Alistair Wednesday February 17th, 2010 5:54:36 PM
"I am neither cartographer, or a druid," Halfdane says to Bosk, "so I don't have a clue about distances, but to say that the farm up north is about an hour's travel, by Ranthom, farther away to the West than it is to the North."
"The questions you're asking are better suited toward a Druid, which I am not," answers Alistair,"if I had a scry spell, I could better tell where he is, but that will have to wait for tomorrow--however, tomorrow will be too late. If it happens, it'll probably be tonight during the magical hour--the thirty minutes before and after midnight."
Adopting a new class and training Wednesday February 17th, 2010 7:27:34 PM
I was asked a while back about training to adopt a new class. Sorry I forgot to address that! Anyways, I've thought about it and in another game I play in on here, I adopted a PRC and there was no RPing the situation, it just happened. I kinda feel like it wasn't right, there should be at least some backstory as to why I diverted from my original class to another. As for training, I'd say that at least you must be initiated into the new class by someone who can show you the ropes for at least 24 hours. Take for instance Bosk; He took Rogue for second level, he didn't need to go find a rogue since we already have on in the group, that works out fine there. Anyways, what I'm basically asking for is this: If you have or are going to change your class to something else, please put a section on your character sheet as "Adopting the _________ class" and give me some backstory as to why and how you did it.

Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 16 of 20 Spells Wednesday February 17th, 2010 7:35:37 PM
Out of ideas Bosk prepares to go North with the group.
Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:1/12 d20+1=2 ; Wednesday February 17th, 2010 7:55:54 PM
Valla nods his head as the group continues to ask questions. He listens, and attempts to judge what Halfdane and Alistair is saying, whether it is true or not. 2 Not noticing anything odd; Valla makes sure his belongings haven't been misplaced or disfigured while he was within the portable hole. Strapping his scroll cases on ethier side of his quiver; for easier access.
I still say we head to the north tree. I agree with Beri; the girl would have lead Jacob; assuming she is the witch of course, to a tree in the general direction of "her Village"... The northern tree is the closest, thats where we should begin our search. Possibly having the second group go to the west tree. Seems like the most productive course of action.
The elf pulls out his sword, lets it shine in the light for a moment; resheaths the expertly crafted weapon, grabs his staff into both hands, and reply's, Lets be off; any more questions are a waste of time... I for one would like to speak to Jacob, ALIVE.
Grendel (Jay) AC:17/10/17 HP 8/13 Thursday February 18th, 2010 11:29:24 AM
Grendel shrugs. "I can't figure it out. Might as well head North for Jacob's sake. Let's get moving."
"I hate leaving it up to a best guess!"

Morning glory even though you wither dawn will break anew. - Gengen'ichi 1804
Finializing their decision, the group falls in step behind the huge Ranthom as it pushes it's way through the tall sargrass. It's driver introduces himself and tells the group a little about the grass they're traveling through. "Very good morning to you all, I'm Buiwerf." He was a rugged looking individual with darkly tanned skin and sinewy muscles that rippled under his loose fitting open shirt. "Please try to stay within the confines of the swath of grass that's being lain down by Beulah here, some of the grass can be sorta dangerous if it's in a certain state. Hopefully today we'll be able to make good time and not encounter any Rapke or other nuisant creatures. With Beulah in the lead, other animals tend to run away, but if you spill any water while drinking, they'll come a runnin'--so let's be careful about that. Oh, I also brought extra water for all of us, since it gets mighty hot out here." Buiwerf wasn't kidding about the heat, already several in the group were getting uncomfortable as the sun was approaching it's zenith.
As the group progressed through the tall grasses, Buiwerf pointed out certain types of grasses:
Purple Grass: This is a thick leafed species growing up to 4 to 12 feet high. It is used to make a brilliant red, blue, and purple dye.
Glass Grass: This is a thick and yellow grass when water is present. However, it becomes sharp and brittle when it dries out. In this dry state, it can shatter and cut like glass. Dried roots can be collected, pulverized and distilled into one of the finest liqueurs in the Wold.
Steel Grass: This is a thin bladed green grass that is easily woven into buildings and armor shapes. When it is treated with a paste made by the Manfi, it becomes extremely rigid and strong. The Manfri are known for wearing armor that can turn a tempered sword, made from this grass.
Wheat Grass: This is a wheat-like grass with seedpods that can be ground and made into bread.
"We deal with all of these back at the farm, but primarily we use the wheat grass the most since hunting out here can be very dangerous--we just have to do it in a controlled manner." Buiwerf continued to guide the great ranthom through the grass expertly, as the straight path behind the group could be seen for some distance behind them. Every now and then, Beulah would grace the group with a huge steaming, stinky, ball of dung, some 3ft. in diameter. Almost immediately beetles would come out of their hiding places to work at the great ball, turning it into a new home to raise their offspring.
Hours passed and after taking a break here and there, and commenting on Bosk's short hair/fur standing on end, making him look poofy and somewhat comical--Buiwerf explains the static in the grasses tend to do that to people with his type of hair, the group see's the tree off in the distance. Any thoughts of trying to sneak up on the tree is soon quelled as the going is very difficult and makes as much noise as Beulah gliding through the grass anyways.
The sun hangs low in the sky as the clearing around the tree is come upon. It is a smaller tree and the clearing is also smaller, but also less defined. "This tree has no druid bound to it," Buiwerf says in an almost whisper to the group. "Look at the edges, see how they're uneven." Noting that and the tree, the group can see that this tree has a large hole at it's base and a small trail of smoke exiting from it.

Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Thursday February 18th, 2010 3:11:26 PM
As they were walking behind the Ranthom, Ransy thinks wow, this is a great animal. Would like to train one myself. Riding atop such a huge mount over these plains must be great. Imagine a paladin with such a steed!
Ransy whispers: shall we charge in, or does anyone want to sneak inside first? He tries to detect evil on the tree, near it, and in the soil under his feet.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 13/13 d20+8=27 ; d20+8=23 ; d20+8=15 ; Thursday February 18th, 2010 4:19:24 PM
Xeron listens to Buiwerf talking about the different kind of grass. I am so sick of this tall grass. I hate this grass. Let's free lover boy and get out of here. I really do not like nature .....
When the Ranthom drops huge dung balls, the first smile since they arrived in the Plains appears for a brief moment on the rogue face. "This is more like it. Remind me of the sewer streets of Mud Town "
He thinks for a second to push Valla into one of them but realized that the elf can probably take him so he restraints himself. Then he think of one of the balls falling on Alistair and he smiles again, a rare occurence for the rogue.
They arrive at the tree and the paladin offers to charge. Xeron says "Listen Law and Order, you never charge in unless you have a death wish. We gather info, analyze them and then formulate a plan. Some of us like to rush but they spend their time on their back, using our clerics resources. "
He turns toward the other rogue "Beri, how about you and I look for obvious signs of defense or traps or alarm and get a sense of what we are getting ourself. Unless the group wants to charge and if so, be my guest. .
The rogue will search for anything indicating alarms or trap or defense. (Search 1d20 + 8 = 27, 23, 15 not ure how many needed).
If nothing shows, he will go toward the end of the line, in order to be able to hide and take a sneaking position if engaged.
Ransy & Xeron Thursday February 18th, 2010 4:28:30 PM
Ransy detects no evil within the range of his spell-like ability.
Xeron, where are you searching? The edge of the clearing?

Xeron begins a methodical search of the clearing where the group is (10'x10' section) and finds nothing of note. All the while Ransy keeps an eye on the hole at the base of the tree and notes no movement or anything else unusual beyond the unusual already noted.
The group is approximately 50' from the base of the tree at the edge of the clearing.

Beriothian walks slowly behind the giant beast as they head towards the tree. The giant blades of grass give him a sense of being home, but there is something disconcerting about walking through a forest where the trees have no branches. The heat of the land almost makes him long for Mudtown... almost. .... Beriothian listens to Xeron and Maikill.
I am all for you entering first Maikill, but I think Xeron and I should scout first. We will follow behind you once you enter the hole.
If the group agrees with this Beri will finish his scouting by the entrance of the hole and give the signal that it's all clear to move in. Otherwise he will return to the group upon completing his search.
Beriothian enters the clearing and starts his reconnaissance.

Beri -- DM Jim d20-5=-4 ; d20=7 ; Thursday February 18th, 2010 10:39:57 PM
Beri enters the clearing and feels very overwhelmed by the sense of being out in the open with absolutely nothing to hide behind. As he quietly creeps to the opening at the base of tree, he hears a faint chanting coming from somewhere deep below in the bowels of the earth. The rogue detects no traps in the area of the hole.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:12/13 Thursday February 18th, 2010 10:50:55 PM I don't like the sound of that chanting, but at least it doesn't sounds like she's in the middle of dinner!
Beriothian gestures to the group, first giving the universal "talking" hand signal, then points in the direction of the sound. Finally he gives them a thumbs up to let them know he has found no traps. After signaling the group Beriothian pulls out his cross bow, loads it, and prepares for the group to approach.
Spellcasting -- DM Jim Friday February 19th, 2010 2:50:29 AM

Vall walks behind the giant beast-path-maker; and listens to Buiwerf's explanation about the grasses. As he tells there uses, Valla attempts to pluck about a pound of the purple grass, used for dyes. Also he tries to get about a pound of the glass grass as well. Stuffing them into his pack; silently pondering uses for them later on.
When the group approachs the clearing and the two rogues are done with traps; he nods his head at Maikills request to go first. Ya, Maikill; Grendel; Ransy; Myself; Cesar; Beri; Xeron; Bosk. I should be in the middle; so Im not to far away to use my spells on our potential enemies. Xeron and Beri in the back so there not immediatly noticed; Maikill and Ransy up front for a head on charge, Grendel with them two for Healing purposes. Bosk in the rear because we won't be able to get around him if needed. I'd wager a guess that the path will widen, but im not for sure. No sense wasting time now, lets go on in. However he is able to truthfully respond, If no one objects, I think it would be better if you are be between Xeron and I. If someone attacks from behind I can stop anyone from getting through, however if something happens to me or the tunnel narrows too much I will prevent anyone else in our party from getting to Jacob. Inwardly Temujin sighed because Xeron just didn't understand he was Jacob back then, but he said nothing about it. He was here to help Jacob, not argue with a man who saw little reasoning beyond the tip of his dagger.
Making the decision to finally go in, Maikill is first. There is no light down here except from what's streaming down the hole, and that is fading fast (those with darkvision and low-light vision will have no problems, those without will be blind). The half-orc and the rest that subsequently enter find the narrow passage warm and humid inside the core of the Druid Tree. Sap and muddy ichor drip and ooze from the rooted walls as the group descends down deeper into the bowels of the earth. Some 20ft down it begins to level out and the passage snakes North by Northwest.
Soon the group comes to an intersection with one passage continuing Easterly and then Northward and another heading South--the chanting sounds as if it's coming from the Northward passage.

My question is, do we want to take on the witches head first or do we find Jacob, free him and run away? Another idea is to have the doppledanger looks like Jacob again to use it as a diversion!"

After hearing Grendel he whispers back If we are going to scout I would suggest sending one of are smaller, stealthier rogues instead of one of our Clerics. No need to alert them to our presence before we have to. Beriothian thinks back to the image of Jacob bound by the cauldron. I don't know what room the chanting is coming from, but I do know that Jacob is in the room with a boiling cauldron. Moving forward, Beri, Maikill and Valla come into a small chamber. At it's heart is a small patch of rough grass with a large, somewhat damaged and slightly glowing, white marble head at it's center. Beriothian carefully scans the room without entering, paying special attention to the areas around the glowing head and the odd tree growing under the Druid Tree. As Valla moves into the room the glowing head simply amazes the elf. Staring at it, and the tree in the corner; he moves closer to the marble head. Valla runs his hands over the marble head; Its clearly damaged; and probably been here for a while; but how did it get here? Interesteing Indeed.... After getting a good feel of the marble head, he peers at the tree; the tree is or was, growing underground... Without sunlight! This is odd... Very odd indeed. Something is happening here; and I believe its more than a normal kidnapping...
Valla starts to whisper to Beri; ] The tree should not have grown here. There is no sunlight. This means one of two things. The tree is magical in itself. Or this tunnel was once above ground. This may not have much to do with Jacob, but I believe it needs to be investigated...
Valla will inspect the marble head and the tree; as throughly as he possibly can. Looking for anything unusual; something that might indicate that the head is able to be opened; or some indication on how it got there. He inspects the tree to see about any type of fruits may have dropped from its branches. Or if there is any evidence of it being transplanted here; or moved to here from somewhere else.
Marble Head: 21 Tree: 13
After inpsecting the two oddly placed items, Valla racks his brain once more, to see if he can remember reading or hearing anything about underground trees, specificly ones growing under a druids tree. Also anything that could pertain to the marble head.
After he concludes his search of the room; the mage pulls out a scroll; and using the light given off by the marble head, he casts Shield on himself, from the scroll.
He will then exit the cavern, and relay everything he sees or remembers to the rest of the party; in a low whisper
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:12/13 Monday February 22nd, 2010 7:46:39 PM
Beri impatiently waits while Valla inspects the tree and statue.
I never thought Valla to be the type interested in marble statues and gardening, I suppose appearances can be deceiving. As Maikill inspects the North passage, Valla inspects the marble head--his fingers tingle as he runs his hands over it. Wracking his brain unfortunately proves fruitless as he is not trained in any knowledge skills.
Bosk asks Temujin to change and then asks a few personal, but pertinent questions. Temujin complies and says in a whisper that he did not attack Beri and he will not turn into a Mind Flayer.
Before Valla returns, he casts a spell from his scroll, his voice is strong and reverberates in the small chamber, but it's not as loud as Grendel's prayer to shield Maikill from harm--after both spells being cast, the chanting from the North ceases.
------- ooc: I waited most of the day and have stated a couple times before about casting spells in a strong voice. Also, after casting said spell, you need to list it's duration at the bottom of your post and carry that forward each round, if we're in rounds, or I'll let you know. Beriothian curses under his breath. What is Grendel shouting for, at this rate the whole tree will.... and now Valla?! This is... I can't... ARGH!
Beriothian dashes down dirt corridor back to the main group. When he reaches Grendel he removes the small flask from his pocket and closes his eyes:
Wardd, if thou truly are the patron of lunatics, surely you have noticed us today. Beriothian takes a small sip from his flask as he prays for Wardd to watch over them. Beriothian then whispers just loud enough that Maikill will be able to hear him.
Maikill, Grendel. If we are about to head into combat we may want to move to a more advantageous location. If you can see any light or smell any smoke you should probably head in that direction so we can be in a lit room and protect Jacob. Otherwise we may want to retreat towards the room I was just checking, then we can have several people guarding the tiny entrance. Let's not start a fight if we don't have to, after all we still can't guarantee this is the right tree. The last thing we want is to become a band of murderers.
Beriothian considers his options, though there really isn't much he can see or do from his current position, and the entire tree is likely already aware of there location. Suddenly an idea comes to him, it's a long shot, but it's better than just waiting in the dark for combat to ensue.
Jacob, are you down here? We heard you had fallen in love, and thought we would bring you some wine and meet this fine lady.
He pulls out the bottle of wine from his backpack and hands it to Grendel to add a little more legitimacy to the claim for their presence. If worse comes to worst and combat ensues prehapse Grendel can maybe toss it over Maikill's head and distract enemy.

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:12/13 Tuesday February 23rd, 2010 6:43:16 AM Well, after two loud spells were cast in a row it's any chance of a stealth or surprise was already blown. At least for once we tried something before running headlong into a fight. I would hate for us to actually become the rogue group of bandits that some in Mudtown already view us as. And here I thought we were going to be able to quietly sneak in after our success outside the tree.
His grip tightens around his crossbow, fearing that any moment they will see the ugly witch from the mirror, and fearing even more that whoever they meet will not be a witch.

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:12/13 Tuesday February 23rd, 2010 6:55:10 AM
ooc: Just to clarify, Beri was assuming that should there be witches down here they would have heard the loud incantation of two consecutive spells reverberating off the walls, so stealth was already not an option. His purpose in the bluff was to providing an opening to avoid combat with innocents should this be the wrong tree. He assumes that should this be the correct tree the witches are going to attack us regardless (that's just the Wold we live), but since they are obviously aware of us by now his bluff shouldn't hurt.

Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:1/12 Wednesday February 24th, 2010 12:15:30 PM
Valla hears Maikill's statement of "many witches"...
This is not good... We've seen no vermin. Only the magical marble head, a mass of witches and a mostly dead tree.. Im begining to think this is the wrong druids tree. But at the same time, what are a bunch of witch's doing here? Whether these are Jacob's kidnappers or not, I believe something is wrong here...
Valla will move forward with the group, staying close to the west wall. The elf looks at Bosk, down the line of comrades, What to do big guy? Im at a loss here... Eradicate the coven? Or flee? He puts the tangle foot bag away, realizing it's nearly useless aganist so many enemies. He draws his longbow and an arrow. He doesn't knock the arrow, awaiting a reply to Xeron's "offering".

Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 18 of 20 Spells Blessed 5 rounds d20+4=8 ; Wednesday February 24th, 2010 2:02:40 PM Blasphemy! is the only thought that comes to the clerics mind when he hears Maikill mention the witches. Respondind to Valla, the anger and passion in his voice are unmistakable. Whether his knowledge of witches is based upon fact, rumor or a combination is unclear, but there is no denying his desire to rid the wold of such people. Woldsblood is a sacred and dangerous substance, only Fixers or trustworthy followers of Alemi or Gargul may handle it. Witches draw the energy for spell-casting by psychically reaching into the Realm of Shadows and tapping the rivulets of Woldsblood that run there. They play with it, risking insanity and having thier soul ripped from thier bodies. Thier magic is unperdictable, often failing or causing more destruction than intended due to the bloods power. They have no respect for for what they wiled. They only care about power, a drive that often trives them mad in the pursuit. One of the first spells they learn is to call a spirit from the Realm of Shadows and bind it so that they may control it. Thier kind is a preversion of nature must be destroyed.
Pusing to catch his breath he continues. We cannot flee. Our commrades are in trouble and if we flee Jacob will surely die.
(ooc) Bosk is still unaware that Jacob is not to be seen.
=============================================== I cannot open the map right now, but if Bosk can get out of the tunnel he will move to the location that aids Maikill and Cesar and threatens as many witches as possible. (probablly right behind the two of them)

"Hurry, too many witches." the Half-orc cries out.
Ransy is quick on Maikill's heels as he engages the witch next to the half-orc, but also misses his foe, a woman in her early fifties.
Rushing around the corner, Cesar spots a group of witches to the right and perhaps out of fear of getting flanked, he rushes at them. His longsword finds flesh as he slashes a young woman across her chest, nearly felling her with one blow.
After conversing very briefly with Valla, and then moving to the opening in the chamber, Xeron stops and evaluates the situation. He believes his best course of resolution is through intimidation, and therefore threatens the melee-ensued witches--his words fall on deaf ears, so he draws his rapier. Intimidate only affects one target; In combat: you can intimidate only an opponent that you threaten in melee combat and that can see you--Xeron is not in melee with any opponent at this time.
Beri moves in and past Xeron to the North. Carefully aiming his crossbow, he fires into the melee between Maikill and the witch in front of him. His shot is true and he drops the witch in her tracks--he does not spot Jacob as of yet. Will, I do not see where you get +8 to damage on your CS, so I used your roll less the +8 and it was still enough to incapacitate the witch fighting Maikill. Also, it is -4 to hit firing into a melee unless you have Precise Shot.Third, it requires a move action to reload your crossbow, so that won't be possible this time.
Valla asks Bosk his opinion about the matter at hand, then moves toward combat, drawing his longbow as he prepares himself for the eventual bloodfest.
The mighty Taur, Bosk, safe in his position near the end of the line, launches into a fierce tirade about witches when Maikill calls back to the group--most of which is lost in the din of battle.
Three glass-grass daggers fly at Maikill, shattering against his armor and the wall behind him, doing him no harm.
Moving up to attack Ransy, the two witches find they're not skilled enough to bypass his defenses.
Three daggers fly at Cesar as the witch in the back (U8) Commands him to "Fall!" One of the dagger shards slashes him across the face as it shatters, then against his Will (DC14, rolled a 13 save), Cesar falls to the ground prone. He is beset upon by three more witches, one of which barely slashing his face again.

Cesar cries out for help, but none is immediately forthcoming as he fights back the witches seeking to slay him.
Beri reloads and fires off a bolt at a witch in the center, striking her soundly in the shoulder, but not felling her.
Grendel rushes forward and almost at point blank range, skewers the same witch Beri shot, dropping her like a sack of potatoes.
Xeron moves forward and gives Valla some reassurance about his safety and also inquires whether or not he has an area effect spell.
Maikill steps forward over the witch he disposed of and easily kills outright the witch standing in front of Ransy. He also lets the rest of the group know that Jacob is dead.
Bosk comes rushing out of the tunnel and quickly sees a spot between the two groups of witches that he can jump too. With daring-doo, he rushes and jumps 20' over the fire pit and cauldron--drawing several attacks of opportunity that fail to penetrate his armor and lands on the otherside of it barely. Due to not being formally trained in jumping, the large Taur looses his footing and falls prone. The pit is 10', which means you have to jump 20' to clear it because you're a large character. Since you are not trained in Jump, and did not exceed the DC20 by 5, you fall prone.
Valla runs up to one of the witches, smiles broadly while standing right in front of her, and begins to cast a spell from one of his scrolls. He is immediately rewarded with a critical strike to the chest with a glass-grass dagger, which interrupts his casting, making him lose the spell. reading from a scroll brings an AoO if you're in a threatened square, which you were. DC16 concentration save which you failed, thereby losing your spell. You have the Combat Casting feat, with your bonuses totaling +11, you would have only needed a 5 or better to cast the spell without incurring an AoO if you chose to cast defensivily. Also, you list a +2 for armor, but there is no armor listed on your CS. If you're wearing armor, you need to make arcane spell failure rolls.
The witch near Bosk (V5 to W4) takes a 5' step back and casts a Sleep spell affecting Maikill, Ransy and Grendel (DC13 Will Save or fall asleep). Ransy manages to stay awake, but barely.
The two witches near Ransy attack him as they see he is fighting off the spells effects, but neither can harm him
The witch who had cast the Command spell earlier, takes a 5' step back (U9) and casts Scare at Bosk (DC14 Will Save or flee area as fast as possible)
The other three witches already surrounding Bosk, descend upon him with their daggers, but none penetrate his armor.
The other three witches surrounding Cesar continue to slash at him and one again manages to slash his face visciously.

Bosk pushes back the effects of the spell brought against him and regains his footing quickly upon hearing Cesar's cry. Several glass-grass blades break against his armor as he rises, but none harm him as he turns and swings his morningstar over the head of a nearby witch, crushing the shoulder and dropping to the ground a witch attacking Cesar. "Tonight Gargul will judge your souls!" the Taur bellows in triumph.
Cesar slashes out again at his attackers, but once again, misses this target.
Xeron yells out to Valla to stay away from the witches and instead of covering his back as he had just stated, he instead goes to check on Jacob's status. As he reaches the shallow pit he see's that Jacob is still breathing, then just in front of him he see's Maikill fall to the ground, unconscious.
Beri reloads his crossbow and once again fires, this time he misses so bad, he almost hits Grendel in the back.
Valla cries out at the witches that they'll meet their maker, casts a spell, but has no target as the witch in front of him is out of the battle thanks to Bosk's timely intervention. The spell charge still lingering on his fingertips, Valla takes a 5' step back. (P9 is in the middle of a wall).
A witch steps over Maikill's body and with her sister next to her, they both strike out at Xeron--one manages to slash the rogue across the arm with her dagger that snaps in two.
A witch takes a 5' step back out of Ransy's sword range and casts another sleep spell that threatens to put Grendel, Ransy and Xeron asleep (DC13 Will save or fall asleep). Ransy once again fights off the effects of the Sleep spell, unfortunately Grendel does not as she falls unconscious.
The witch at U9 casts Doom on Bosk, who quickly strikes out at the witch to stop her casting, but fails to hit her. The witch hopes the beast succumbs to it since it seems to be a formidable foe. (DC13 Will Save or become shaken-- -2 attack, etc...)
The three witches surrounding Bosk continue their assault on them, quickly running out of daggers, but none can seem to harm him.

Combat: Round 5 -- DM Jim Monday March 1st, 2010 11:59:20 AM
Giving a thanks to Bosk for the timely assist, Valla rushes forward and grabs onto the witch at T7, sending lightning shooting through her arm. Screaming, the girl, who looks all of thirteen, passes out.
Not succumbing to the witches spell, Bosk curses the woman and strikes out at two others. The one behind him at V4, which causes a large wound on her shoulder, but does not drop her. The second, in front of him with his horn, goring her and driving her to fall at his feet.
Xeron berates the witches coven that stands before him and strikes back with his sword, piercing the woman's thin robe, causing her to fall in a heap at the head of the shallow grave.
Beri reloads and aims again, this time he barely scratches the witch he is shooting at (u4). His words to the witches go unanswered.
Cesar, finally finding his footing, launches a swift attack on one of the witches that was attacking him and sends her to the ground, bleeding and screaming.
The witch nearest Ransy (U4) takes a 5' step back (V4) after being shot and seeing her "sister" get taken down by Xeron. She also casts a Sleep spell that covers both Xeron and Ransy (DC13 Will save or fall asleep). Ransy once more fights off the effects of the sleep spell and moves to cover Grendel from being coup d'graced.
The witch who had previously casted the sleep spell and was just attacked by Bosk, takes a 5' step (V4 to V5) while drawing out a metal dagger. She strikes at Bosk's back, but fails to hit.
The witch in front of Bosk (V8) strikes at him with her glass-grass dagger, barely managing to hit him.
The witch who attempted to Scare and Doom Bosk, now casts Suggestion, asking Bosk to "Go outside and find me some apples. Do not return until you have done so." (DC 15 Will Save or go back outside to find her some apples)
The remaining witch on Cesar, the one that takes a 5'step away from Valla (S8 to R9) strikes at him visciously and once more barely manages to slash him across the face.

Beriothian loads his crossbow, takes a free step to the east, and takes aim at the witch standing at v5 letting a bolt fly towards her head... or at least that was his plan. As he was about to pull the trigger he sees Xeron collapse in front of Temujin. His aim strays as he momentarily worries that the doppelganger has chosen this moment to betray the party.... but upon closer inspection he soon realizes that Xeron has merely fallen asleep due to one of the witches sleep spells.
It seems our shifty friend has not betrayed us, though I wonder what he is up to. He has not acted yet, but has slowly been approaching both Xeron and the location where they said Jacob lies unconscious. If his story is true it would make sense that he wants to help Jacob... though if he was untruthful that would likely make Jacob his target.
Beriothian decides to call out to Temujin, both to request his help and to make sure his party is aware of the doppelgangers actions. He decides to avoid using Jacob's name to avoid since that would be the only name the witches would recognize as a target.
Temujin, if it's not urgent wake Xeron first!

Perhaps it was the flickering light from the fire or more likely the blood getting into Cesar's eyes, whatever the case, his luck or lack thereof, accounted for another miss on his intended target.
Xeron's mind were on other things rather than the battle at hand, and now he had a chance to dream about them. The sleep spell having done it's work, the rogue lay on top of Jacob, face to face.
Pointing at one of the witches, Valla yells out to Bosk to finish her off. Then just as quickly he casts a magic missile at the spellcasting witch (T9), slamming her in the chest with it. Soon as he is done, he turns tail and runs to Xeron's aid.
Beri loads his crossbow once more and steps forward to shoot. His aim is interrupted by the chaos of battle and his fears of betrayal and goes wide of it's target. Yelling out to Temujin to help Xeron, he receives no response from the doppelganger.
Bosk throws caution to the wind as he decides he needs to wake up his companions instead of killing witches. Hurridly he rushes to get to Xeron and one glass-grass blade manages to hurt, but only barely--merely a flesh wound. With everything in the way, he has to push himself to get where he wants to, leaving him unable to awaken Xeron immediately. It took you 40ft. to get to the spot you wanted, so you're not able to do a standard action this round since you had to hustle.
Waking up Grendel, Ransy moves 5ft forward to block any attacks on Valla.
Grendel groggily awakens and gets up on her feet. Someone needs to be woke up, Maikill, Xeron? Her way blocked, Grendel moves over and wakes up Xeron. Getting up is a move action, so you can only take a 5ft. step afterwards, so you couldn't reach Maikill this turn anyways. Since you intially chose Xeron, that's who you woke up.
Xeron's eyes flutter as he realizes he's not dead, just sleeping.
Maikill continues to sleep a fitful sleep as the witch on top of him continues to bleed on him.
The battle definitely not going her way and many of her newest recruits, not even fully-fledged witches from the nearby village, lay dying. Sorena motioned her witches to swoop down on the lone warrior abandoned by his companions--Cesar.
Knives slashed and poison burned in Cesar's veins (DC13 Fort save or fall unconscious) as the witches screamed in anger and blood.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 10/13 Tuesday March 2nd, 2010 2:16:18 PM
This was a strange sight. Bosk was stading in front of an altar wearing an immaculate white robe. Next to him was Valla in a bright red mystic robe. On the other side, Beri was playing the harp like a master. Trying to understand Xeron looks around and sees Cesar wearing the shiniest armor he has ever seen. Next to him was Ransy holding bright silver perfect weapons. Xeron turns around and sees Maikil wearinf noble's robes. Then Bosk in his deep guttural voice says "Here come the bride" and Xeron realizes he is escording her. He looks at the veil and sees Grendel and a smiling Maikil. Wait, Wait why am I delivering the bride?
Suddenly he feels a touch and the beautiful scenery disappears and he sees dirt. He feels dirt on his face and his in mouth. Then he hears the cries of battle and sees blood dripping on Maikil. "A dream! It was a dream! We are figthing those witches!
Suddenly happy that he is not in charge of acting as Grendel's father, he shakes Maikil to wake the half-orc up. "Wake Up! Wake Up Maikil! Grendel is in danger and killing is needed!"
Then he picks up his weapon (and if picking the weapon is a free action) will get up from his prone position. (If not he will stay prone and will get up on the next round).

Bosk watches in horror as the witches close in around Cesar. I should have never gone to wake Xeron up. I should have realized Ransey had everything under control. I shouldn't have left Cesar... Mentally scolding himself, the cleric quickly runs to aid him. Swinging wildly at one of the witch, his morning star misses badly. Pulling himself together he yells, I said Gargul wants your souls......NOW!!!! Following through with a second attack he is redeemed as he pierces the witch deeply with his horn. Jerking his head free from the witches body the splattering blood now freckling his face some how enhances his odd craving for apples.

Snapping to lucidity, Xeron reaches over and wakes up Maikill, yelling at the half-orc that Grendel was in danger. That done, he slowly rises and picks up his weapon, ready for action once more.
Ransy calls out to Cesar to hold on as he rushes forth to attack the witch that motioned for the others to attack Cesar in unison. His attack, although not unskilled, fails to hit her.
Maikill wearily awakens to the sounds of battle once more, rises to his feet and picks up his axe. Looking across the rooms, the odds look bad for Cesar.
Cursing his luck, Beri reload and fires his crossbow once more. This time the string rips through the feather of the shaft and sends the bolt into the ceiling--Beri stands there dumbstruck.
Realizing the tactical error he just made, Bosk yells out to the witches again, but just before he goes, he hesitates to make sure Temujin isn't betraying the group. What he see's is the doppelganger cleaning the dirt off of Jacob. This slight hesitation prevents him from getting his attack in on time as he moves toward the witches surrounding Cesar. When you enter a room, or a new place, everyone gets a free Spot check. After that, it's a move action. Checking someone's pulse, watching someone to see if they're betraying you, etc... is a move action after the first free one. A round is only 6 seconds long, a move action about 3 seconds, so these Spot checks do take time.
Cesar is overwhelmed and underlucked (is that a word?) and finds he is swinging wildly and hitting nothing. Fortunately, he fights off the effects of the poison flowing through his veins.
Grendel seeks to finish the battle, and tries to rush to Cesar's aid, but finds Bosk has blocked her from her goal.
Moving forward and nocking an arrow into his bow, Valla draws back and fires. The wild shot sticks into the earthen wall near the witch he was targetting, but does nothing else. Perhaps it's a rhetorical request, but nonetheless, Valla beckons for everyone to help out the beleaguered Cesar.
Being attacked by Ransy was not what Sorena needed right now. Moving back 5ft. (T8 to T9), and calling out for callie to move back and protect her against Ransy, Sorena delayed her spell until Callie was in position.
Callie moved as instructed (S7 to T8) and attacked Ransy, but missed badly.
Sorena once again cast her sleep spell, centered on Bosk and also affecting both Grendel and Cesar.(DC13 Will Save or fall asleep)
Jessica (S8) and the two remaining witches in training all slashed at Cesar; Only one managed to draw blood again--her glassgrass blade snapping it's tip off into the warriors wound.

Ransy thinks: I've got to attack that leader female, that's the only way I can scare them off
He steps forward to U8 (5 ft step, free action, perhaps aoo), detects evil on Sorena (move action), and swings his balanced longsword to attack her with a power attack -2/+2. If he has seen that she is evil, he'll use his smite evil ability to hit her better and harder!
hit AC 15 (or AC 17 if she's evil) (d20 + 6 +1 bless - 2 power (+2 smite)) damage 6 (or 8 if she's evil) (d8 +3 str +2 power (+2 smite))
The Paladin's use of Detect Evil is a standard action, not a move action, because it is a Spell-like ability: A spell-like ability takes the same amount of time to complete as the spell that it mimics (usually 1 standard action) unless otherwise stated. In the paladin description it states: At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. Therefore, if you use Detect Evil, you cannot attack this round. Also, Smite Evil cannot be used with Power Attack, only a normal attack. DM Jim

Frustration creeping across his face, he drops his crossbow at his feet (free action) and moves to T7 while drawing his sap (free action with regular move for BAB +1) , flanking Jessica at S8. (if Maikill went to T7 instead of U8 Beri will move to S7). With one deft move Beri brings his sap squarely down on the back of Jessica's skull, producing a satisfying crack as he makes a connection.
It seems that this does indeed please Wardd. Whoever this witch is, I hope she knows the debt she now owes him.

Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Thursday March 4th, 2010 9:37:27 AM
OOC: so you, DM Jim, want to play the "detect evil" ability in accordance with the spell description? That means it is virtually useless in combat. Wasting a standard action to check whether your opponent is evil, is not an option in most cases. And sorry, I didn't know that smite evil cannot be combined with power attack.
For this round, I want to play fair, so Ransy can't use his smite evil, but uses power attack as I wrote earlier:
That means: he hits AC 15 for 6 damage.
I, DM Jim, am playing the game in accordance with the rules of said game. To activate the Detect Evil spell-like ability is a standard action, to refine it's results on further rounds require concentration--which can be broken by using other abilities, spells, and taking damage. I have confirmed this with the Rules Center, so this was not an arbitrary ruling. DM Jim

Thinking he must attack the witch leader, Ransy steps forward and swings with all his might at the hideously ugly woman, but she proves a combination of to agile to hit and the paladin's sword strikes something metallic and hard under her vermin laced robes.
Giving out a battle cry, Maikill rushes forward and attempts to hack at the coven leader, but finds another witch in his way--which he promptly attacks and misses. T8 is occupied by a witch. Bless is no longer in effect.
Completely frustrated by his crossbow, Beri drops it and moves to hit the witch called Jessica in the head with his sap from a flanking position. As he moves past Jessica, he draws an AoO from Jessica and the witch next to her, Callie. Jessica's blade slices cruelly into Beri's flesh and burns, it's poison attempting to push the elf into unconsciousness, but he hangs on barely, and delivers his attack on the witch with a solid thud.Since you didn't say you were going through the fire and getting 2d6 fire damage, you went around and drew two AoO's :)
Bosk pushes back the shadows that begin to dim his vision as Sorena's spell fails to fell the mighty Taur. Taking out his anger on the witch nearest him, he strikes her soundly and crushes her shuolder under the strength of his blow.S9 is out of your reach. The first diagonal square is 5ft., the second 15ft. I know that rule sucks, but it's the way it is in 3.5e.
Growling under her breath, or maybe above it, Grendel draws out her morningstar and squeezes by Bosk to face the witch, Jessica. The sleep spell cast by Sorena not even registering on Grendel's will.
Giving instructions to Temujin, raises his blade to end the life of one of the witches laying unconscious in front of him. Fate however stays his hand as he looks at the pretty young girl laying there, perhaps all of three and ten years old.
Cesar begins swinging his blade about in wild circles while taking a step back, fending off the witch still seeking to end his life.
Valla racks his brain and comes up with a great idea, tell them to fondle themselves! None of the witches comply as they're told to drop their weapons and put their hands on their chests. In response, Valla tries a daring shot not through one teammate, but through two. Luckily, or maybe not so, he hits no one.
Jessica, a comely young woman, sidesteps and once again attacks Cesar, but misses.
Callies also sidesteps to avoid getting surrounded and strikes out at Ransy, critically hitting the paladin with her glassgrass blade.
Sorena was pretty much out of spells, unless she wanted to fix her hair, or clean the floor a bit, so instead she drew out her cudgel. It was highly engraved and glowed with a faint light. Ransy was the nearest and so she swung with all her might at the man, but it wasn't enough to penetrate his armor--small gouts of flame sparked as her weapon skipped off the paladin's armor.
The lone witch in training took her glassgrass dagger and threw it at Ransy, but it broke harmlessy against his armor.

Seeing the blood covering Cesar and Beri's amour causes the Horned Cleric to call out, Let me through, the Hag is mine! Someone assist Cesar and Beri.
If Cesar of Grendel will move out of his way, Bosk will move to the four square space created (Q,R/7,8 or R,/S7,8). He will then attack Sorena twice (Assuming Maikill did not kill her. If he did Bosk will attack Jessica.) If neither Grendel or Cesar create an opening so he can get through he will attack Jessica with both attacks from his current location.

Beri hears Bosk calling out for people to aid him Does he really think I am that fragile? I may look like a rag doll in comparison to that hulking taur, but it's going to take more than some wretched hag to get the better of me! Beriothian eyes Jessica who just cut him and charges straight for her, nimbly tumbling behind her. As he twirls around he sees that Maikill is already in front of Jessica sending his axe crashing down on her. Beri decides to put off his revenge on Jessica and instead attack the witch on his right that he's flanking (Callie). While the witch is busy with the party in front of her he brings his sap down with another satisfying crack. Wardd, I am not sure why it is you do not want me shed the blood of this coven, but since that appears to be your will I shall knock some sense into these ladies with my sap.

he doesn't trust his power attack anymore, so he'll swing his blade in a normal attack, aiming for the arm which is holding the glassgrass blade: hit AC 11 (+2 BAB, +3 str, +1 mw sword), damage 10.

Grendel raises her shield as she makes room for Bosk and steps forward into the fray... finally. The invigorating rush as she is surrounded by opponents infuses her limbs as she strikes out with her morningstar. Sure she's still wounded from the day before and this is not the most wise decision, but then again her kind are not known for using reason when it comes to combat. Besides, those healing magics would likely save the life of one of her companions or one of these misguided souls... it's be selfish to waste it when time would eventually mend her wounds.
"Lay down or I will lay you out myself, by the Word of Flower!" her cries are more inspiration for herself than offers to the witches who seem to have chosen their course in life.

Combat: Round 9 -- DM Jim d20+7=23 ; d20+4=23 ; d4=1 ; d20+2=6 ; d20+6=16 ; d8=6 ; d8=5 ; d20+4=10 ; Saturday March 6th, 2010 3:29:31 AM
Maikill weaves his weapon about, looking for a target, then steps forward and swings mightily at Sorena. His axe blade finds flesh, but only after defeating her mithral breastplate. I assume you meant to move to T8 since there are no witches in front of you
Bosk calls out for those in the way to clear out and to help Cesar and Beri, so he delays until he can move to attack.
Chagrined at being thought of as helpless, Beri makes a fantastic move to roll right past Jessica, but ends up slamming into the wall right behind her and falling backwards into the space in front of her, but still somehow managing to stay on his feet. Jessica is #1, there is no empty square behind her. Callie is #2 and 15ft away from Jessica...?
Seeing Maikill attack Sorena, Ransy instead attempts to attack Callie, but his sword does not fair as well as the half-orcs axe.
Valla moves around the firepit and since his bow doesn't seem to be doing much good in such crowded quarters, instead he casts a Daze spell at Callie(DC13, not 15) who is just barely in range. But it does no good as she easily overcomes the spell.
Xeron stands poised over the young girl and is starting to have an emotional breakdown--he cannot fathom the feelings surging in his chest, the eddy of emotions swirling in his brain, so instead, he turns and begins helping Temujin unearth Jacob. "Go help friends," Temujin says to Xeron, "I can take care of Jacob." The son of Halfdane did not look injured in any way, but he was obviously either under a spell or was drugged.
Yelling her battle cry to Flower, her goddess, Grendel attacks Sorena, but just misses her due to the crones physical and magical defenses.
With no room to move forward, and moving sideward would put his posterior into the fire, Bosk curses as he is unable to fight Sorena. So instead he lashes out at Jessica, but his aim fails to meet his target and both attacks miss.
Jessica once again stabs at Cesar with her metal blade, and this time succeeds in stabbing his leg but just barely. Poison once again enters his veins, possibly to his demise.(DC13 Fort Save or fall unconscious)
The lone witch trainee stabs out in defense of her leader, but misses Maikill by a mile.
Sorena, obviously in pain from Maikill's attack fights back, but her cudgel once again skips off the half-orcs armor. Cursing under her breath, she begins to glow in a sickly yellow light for just a second and those near her see her injuries almost all but disappear.
Callie comes to her mistresses aid and strikes out at Maikill with her wavy curving dagger, much like Jessica's, but also misses the half-orc.

Cesar tries valiantly to stay on his feet, but falls to the poison running rampant in his blood.
Realizing where he went wrong, Beri once again tumbles past one of the witches, but just barely, and ends up right behind Sorena. The space is tight and cramps and affords him no opportunity to dodge any blows (no dex bonus to ac). Immediately he lashes out at Callie and misses.
Yelling that the witch cannot be killed, Maikill wounds Sorena gravely as he slashes her with his greataxe.
Attempting to bolster his comrades spirits, Ransy tries striking at Callie, but misses her also.
Cursing his ineffectiveness, Valla pulls out a scroll as he moves forward, stops and ensorcells himself with a mage armor spell just as his shield spells fade out.
Seeing Cesar fall sits none to well with Bosk, as he fails to connect with his attack on Jessica once more.
Growling in frustration, Grendel strikes at the last standing with in training and clobbers her into unconsciousness.
Still unsure of his own emotional state, Xeron moves forward to help the group if needed.
Seeing that Maikill is the biggest threat, Jessica sidesteps and attacks the half-orc, in fact all the witches attack Maikill and somehow through the flurry of daggers and magic cudgel, Maikill stands unharmed--at least for now.
Then once again Sorena is bathed in a sickly yellow glow and almost half of her wounds disappear.
Cesar - HP 5/29, AC 21 (22 against witch in T8) Monday March 8th, 2010 3:26:45 AM
Caesar hits the ground with a loud thud while the battle continues all around him.
As he falls unconscious, the room starts spinning, quickly growing darker, until nothing is left around the fallen warrior.
He sees his parent's farm in the distance, a lone building in a sea of darkness. He wishes to go and see his family, check if everything is all right and maybe rest a while with them, just like when he was younger... but the sound of his companions fighting reaches to him from the distance, holding him back...

His fingers grip the braided leather of his sap tighter as he raises the sap at an angle above his head. What's this? Off in the distance Cesar see's his family's farm, it's barn on fire--it's exterior soot covered as flames lick at it's red walls.
Confusion clouded Maikill's face as he yelled out, perhaps rhethorically, why the witch wasn't dying. His attack also fails to hit the ugly crone.
Unsheathing his masterwork longsword, Valla decides that since he's out of spells, he'll have to use the blade. His skills are rusty however, and he too misses his target.
Trying to negotiate with the witch in front of him, Ransy leaves her no time to respond as he drives his sword into her side. Taking a quick glance, he see's no other witches entering the small cavern.
Bosk tries something daring, since he seems unable to hit the witch that attacked Cesar. Moving forward over Cesar's body (DC5 Balance check = 9, no damage to Cesar this round), Bosk tries to trip Jessica and gets stabbed by her poisonous blade (DC13 Fort save = 13, saved). Thankfully the poison doesn't enter his system, but the pain from the dagger is just as painful. His attempt to trip Jessica is sucessfull, as she drops to her backside, but his followup attack on the woman is not. Last round you shouldn't have been able to attack Jessica since you were out of reach, my fault. For Trip: after making an unarmed touch attack, you make a str roll plus size mod to trip her (your total is +6), then she makes an opposing roll, she rolled 16 and fell. It's explained here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/specialAttacks.htm That site is great for 3.5, so you or anyone else might want to search there for stuff you want to do beforehand if you're unsure.
Xeron tries to close the distance between him and the nearest witch, but finds Valla has gotten in the way.
The same goes for Grendel as the way has been occupied by Bosk, but with Jessica on the ground now, her attack smashes Jessica into a bloody state of unconsciousness. Btw, only Beri gets flanking bonus since he's flanking her and no one else.
Giddy was perhaps the correct state of mind Beri was in when he poised behind Sorena, his sap at the ready. With a quick snap, Beri's sap thwapped Sorena in the back of the head, taking her by surprise.
Sorena was angry, she turned and struck at Beri with all her malevolent anger, aiming for his nutsack. Instead, she hit him square in the abdomen, a painful whack to his guts that also burned as flames erupted from the contact with the cudgel. Then just as quickly, Sorena turned back to her other foes so they couldn't flank her (move action). And also once more, the witch glows with a sickly yellow light and is healed.
Callie, seeing the danger behind Sorena, also attacks Beri, and her dagger finds a lung. It is a pain Beri has never felt before, so invasive, so totally and completely overwhelming. Falling to the ground, Beri appears to be dead. Callie turns back to her foes (move action). Beri is at -10. because he has 2 hero points, he has two rounds to live, to be stabilized or make the roll to stabilize.

Maikill roars with an anger born of Orcish rage, bellowing at the top of his lungs, Maikill cleaves Sorena in half--from the top of her head, through her torso and beyond.
Almost immediately there is a sound of twisting metal, then a large snapping explosion as those that turn around see the cauldron split down one side--gushing forth it's viscous broth on the fire. The whole chamber is bathed in complete darkness and acrid smoke.
Only those with Darkvision may Highlight to display spoiler: {From the center of the cauldron rises a humanoid shape, darker than black, that emanates ultimate evil. It's taloned clawed hands pulls itself up and it stands erect in the cauldron. It's face is that of darkness and somehow it's eyes are even darker than the rest of it's body--completely void of any light or substance. It opens it's smoking fang laced mouth and issues a silent cry of joy or pain, which exactly, is unknown. Raising it's arms toward the ceiling, it quickly dissipates into nothingness--leaving the chamber as it was before, completely dark and filling with smoke.}
