Dragons! round 10 (DMSteveK) d8=6 ; d8=3 ; Wednesday February 24th, 2010 1:11:46 PM
Xenia draws another scroll and jets across to the far side of the natural cavers. She listens carefully and examines the strange little dark spot. There is some movement of claw against rock echoing through the caverns, but Xenia is unsure how far away the sound is coming from. And the sound is not so much travel movement, but a more "I'm using my arms and bumping things" movement. For the dark spot, it is like a foggy blackness, nearly identical to the blob of darkness that Obsidian used to cover her escape into the caverns. Her eyes see that behind her is a pile of rubble that seems to seal off another tunnel.
Durgan fidgets and messages.
Firn'gaer moves closer, and nearly makes it to where Durgan, Trace, and Jurgen wait. He airs his thoughts... Are we prepared for two dragons?
Peerimus chuckles to himself and, with eyes just above the ground, moves through/under the cave in and investigate the area beyond, his Darkvision providing detail in the dark. He can see the same thing that Xenia can, but moving through the rubble, he picks up a bit more. The rubble isn't a localized fall, but goes back at least 20 feet.
Kazak flies straight into the cave and ducks into a corner spot. The dwarf can see the same as Xenia, and his dwarven knowledge of stone confirms these are natural caverns. The rockfall to the east (where Peerimus is) looks recent, but as it is not still shifting, it hasn't happened within the last few seconds. And his Prot v Evil potion wears off.
Jurgen casts Heroism on himself and waits for the call forward.
Torgon retrieves his chain, and begins to head for the rest of the group.
...........................
And what the dragons are doing in the caves is unknown, but Xenia and Peerimus can hear movement echoing down long passages.

Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Wednesday February 24th, 2010 2:24:24 PM
Question: I find myself kind of thrown by the odd shape of the Darkness. Is it that shape because an ellipse is the only shape available to you in your drawing program? Or, is that the actual shape of the Darkness area? That is to say, does it actually fill the tunnel? Or is it, in fact, elliptical, with spaces unaffected on the sides as shown?
DM SteveK: The Darkness fills the tunnel. I used an eliptical because the tunnel is only 10 feet wide at this point, and the 20 foot radius circle of darkness can't go beyond the walls of the tunnel. :-)
Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Wednesday February 24th, 2010 2:26:43 PM
There's little more left to do but move ahead. The dark rogue heads bravely up the tunnel and into the area of Darkness.

Dragons! round 11 (DMSteveK) Thursday February 25th, 2010 12:01:27 PM
Xenia bravely heads up the tunnel and into the area of Darkness.
Trace waits by Jurgen for the next move.
Durgan urges Jurgen to get everyone together again.
Rash moves (last round and this round) until she is in the caves near Kazak and Peerimus. Spying the darkness and not being told 'no', the cleric casts a small cantrip which negates the effect of the Darkness.
Kazak waits for a reply and quaffs a potion of Barkskin from his HHaversack.
Jurgen will cast Dimension Door and teleport with Firn'gaer, Trace, Durgan, and Himself to the exact postion where Peerimus was just standing.
Torgon continues to try to catch up to the CoC entering the cave. The big minotaur is the only one outside of the mountain. TorgonHighlight to display spoiler: {And so it is Torgon becomes the only one to see the two Red Dragons crawl out of a cave on the north end of the mountain and launch themselves into the air! FerroKel flies halfway to the village before turning south, and Obsidian makes an immediate bank and flies south, directly towards Torgon! }
Peerimus' Rocs continue to circle the village.
...........................
With the light countering the dark, Xenia and the others are able to see the corridor a lot better. Still natural caverns, the floor is strewn with rubble as if there has been a recent cave in. About halfway from where the darkness used to be, the floor and ceiling cants down for 20 feet to open into a larger passageway below. At the same spot, there is a shaft going straight up to the sky... another exit!
Xenia's position is able to see more than the others. A long hallway with a couple of side tunnels is bored further into the mountain towards the east. The natural tunnel continues northward and Xenia can see yet another area of Darkness at the edge of her Darkvision.
No one can hear any movement from the passageways.

Torgon calls into his tattoo to warn the CoC, casts righteous might and prepares to become a chew toy.
Kazak growls " sneaky lizards ", calls for Xenia to hear the new situation, and then streaks out of the tunnel to confront the dragons. The dwarven warrior can't see either dragon.
Durgan retrieves and drinks a potion of enlarge.
Peerimus looks to scout further and moves through solid rock to look for a larger cavern. He notes that almost 20 feet back is all recently fallen rock. His feet come out in an opening below him, and the druid-earth elemental looks around. This is a dug out cave that appears empty except for some loose rocks at the moment. A tunnel leads from the cavern, and Peerimus can see more tunnels, one of which is almost certainly connecting to a tunnel that Xenia spied earlier. At the entrance to another completely collapsed tunnel is the hindquarters of a hatchling red dragon; crushed under the great stone.
The pair of rocs make no move and continue to circle the village as if they can't see the dragons.
Xenia arrows back down the dragon tunnel and banks around the corner. She looks for signs of the dragons, but can't see either one!
Jurgen offers up a Dim Door and waits, teleporting with Durgan and Rash outside the mountain. (As both are Large, its all the Protector can bring, too) Niether Durgan or Jurgen can see the dragon.
Durgan grumbles and waits for the teleport.
Rash accepts Jurgen's offer and readies to move in and smack a dragon. Looking around, she spies Obsidian above her, and flies upwards to charge the dragon, but Obsidian is too far and too high to reach!
...........................
FerroKel, only seen by Rash and Torgon, flies over the Darkness by Kazak and Torgon and casts a cone shaped spell that strikes the dwarf and minotaur. Executing a wingover, the still invisible red dragon reverses his course and begins to fly towards the unsuspecting Jurgen and Durgan!
The spell saps Torgon's and Kazak's energy, leaving them Fatigued
Obsidian, only seen by Rash and Torgon, flies short and Hovers while grinning at the Large cleric. "How nice for one hatchling killer to come to mother!" Muscles tighten as the dragon powers into Rash. The fury of the attack makes her strikes less accurate and both claws as well as a wing miss Rash, but the teeth, a wing buffet, and the massive tail strikes with full force! Jurgen sees (and feels, thanks to the Status spell) just how much trouble Rash is in. He doesn't exactly have any good plans on saving the cleric, but he needs to come up with something. There's no way to get to her and to heal her. In fact, getting to her at all will be a frustrating situation since he can't even see the dragon. The only real option at this point is to throw up a Wall of Force between Rash and the dragon. Hoping to disrupt the dragons' attacks, Jurgen holds the spell until the dragon's first attack hits Rash. Hopefully, it is enough to prevent the cleric from being beaten severely.

Rash has had enough of this running around and moves into the darkness and landing devastating blows against Obsidian
Torgon , unable to charge FerroKel, flies after him, gathering height, but not able to come close enough to execute a deadly attack. (ooc: FerroKel is 60' in the air and Torgon is 5'. Flying upwards with Average Maneuverability (ie Fly spell) is at half speed and 60* up angle. Torgon is able to fly 20 feet forward and 30 feet upwards which leaves him still 50' away from FerroKel)
Peerimus casts Anti Life Shell and continues to cut through the rock at his right angle and deeper into the mountain. The druid-elemental sees the crushed portion of the hatchling and a complete cave of the alcove that took its life. Solid rock is seen afterwards.
The pair of rocs continue to make no move and circle the village as if they can't see the dragons.
Kazak reaches into his HHaversack and drinks a potion which wipes the Fatigue from his limbs! He flies up, flanking Torgon and urging to stick together. (ooc: DM adjusted Kazak location to the intent to be beside Torgon instead of the identified square. If I'm in error, tell me, and I'll correct)
Jurgen sees and feels Rash's predicament and thinks to use a Wall of Force to separate the combatants. Yet the Protector can't see Rash, as the cleric moved into the Darkness, and the Wall is not cast.
Xenia draws another scroll and exits the cave.
...........................
FerroKel, only seen by Torgon, flies on, his great wings pumping to move the dragon between Durgan and Jurgen on one side, and the Darkness on the other. Another spell is cast, this time at the two heroes on the ground. Again, they feel tired, just like Kazak and Torgon only moments before.
The spell saps Jurgen and Durgan's energy, leaving them Fatigued
Obsidian is beyond reason, and the two powerful matrons fight to the death in the Darkness above the mountain. "DIE!!!" is the only scream from the dragon, and Rash is assaulted by the full fury of Obsidian. The first bite crushes armor and bone, followed by a wicked claw. Other claws, wings, and devastating tail miss, but it is enough to send the corpse of Rash floating to the hard rock surface of the mountainside below. Something in the darkness rips at Momma Rash, and her body falls from within drifting peacefully to the rocky slope. If you were a dragon, invisible and hiding in a circle of darkness, where would you hide?
Xenia flies straight as an arrow. She drops her bow to free one of her hand, transferring the first scroll to her left. At the outer range of the spell on the second scroll, the dark rogue reads from the scroll and points at the very center of the darkness. A spray of golden particles bursts within the night outlining the form of the invisible dragon.
"A dragon once killed another friend of mine," she says. "I shoulda learned from that. KILL IT DOWN!" Xenia cries, completely oblivious to the fact that she is now visible herself, floating above the ground, defenseless.

Dragons! round 14 (DMSteveK) d20+20=21 ; 14d6=49 ; Tuesday March 2nd, 2010 12:56:38 PM
ooc: George, everyone needs a break. Going out by giving 201 damage in one round to a Old Dragon is pretty good way. Good luck in your rest and recuperation!
..........
Xenia reads the scroll and a spray of golden particles bursts within the magical darkness. It outlines Obsidian, making her invisibility moot, and further gets into her eyes, blinding the red dragon! The dragon is still within the Darkness and benefits from that protection, but is seriously discomforted. (Will nat 1!)
Peerimus reverses course and moves straight back towards the entrance.
The colossal rocs continue to circle the village, seeing no enemy.

FerroKel, only seen by Torgon and Durgan, conducts another Wingover and then gains altitude, flying towards Torgon for a classic aerial battle in the skies. Firn'gaer teleports out of the cave back to the village location. He then scans the skies for the dragons, and his See Invisibility spell pierces the location of both the high-flying FerroKel and the Glitterdust and Darkness affected Obsidian.
Xenia flies toward the ground to a spot directly beneath Obsidian and fires an Acid Arrow at her that misses in the Darkness.
Peerimus glides straight through the earth towards the entrance, Shifting to a medium air elemental the druid then moves through the passages and exits the mountain.
Peerimus calls for the Rocs, As loud as he is able, Peerimus calls for the rocs to head towards the mountain. The colossal birds hear the druid and end their circling of the village to fly east.
Torgon grabs Kazak and teleports right next to Obsidian!
Durgan is able to see Obsidian enough from Xenia's Glitterdust and so shot off his readied crossbow bolt at the dragon (last round), but all his bolts are wide or glance harmlessly off the dragon's scales. The dwarf staggers under the acid attack and prepares to do what he hates... flying.
Trace flies out of the cave and gains some height to look around. He can see a globe of darkness about 200 feet to the north where Xenia, Torgon, and Kazak are battling an invisible but glitterdusted dragon inside the darkness. On the slope below the dragon is the battered, bloody, and unmoving form of Rash Trinka. As long as the Glitterdust lasts, Trace can see enough to aim at Obsidian.
Jurgen takes the full brunt of Obsidian's dragon breath, and again casts Limited Wish. This time, the Protector implores the spell to imbibe both Durgan and Jurgen the ability to Fly. Power washes over both heroes, multi-colored lights flash in no apparent order, and the Chaos Tattoos of the heroes change until Jurgen has the left pattern of the Spiral on his right hand, and Durgan has the right pattern of the spiral on his left hand! Both heroes intrinsically know that they can now Fly... but only if they stay within 5 feet of each other!!
Ooc: Limited Wish -- Produce any other effect whose power level is in line with the above effects. I am willing to reward innovation, but in the future will want to have exact words if you are not duplicating an existing spell.
Kazak appears next to the glittering red dragon and wastes little time. The swirling darkness doesn't deter his aim, and Kazak slices scales twice!
............................
FerroKel takes a second to see where Torgon went and then roars his challenge, "We kill the strongest first and the others will fall before our might. Obsidian, let us slay the flying minotaur!". His wings flipping over, the great dragon reverses course and arcs down to charge into Torgon. The minotaur's chain flicks out once but misses the dragon due to FerroKel's magical armors. And then it is the dragons turn. He powers into Torgon, fangs, claws, wing buffets, and a sweeping tail to quickly pound the hero before help arrives!
The evilness of FerroKel is a palpable thing, easily bypassing the minotaur's damage resistance. While the deadly teeth miss, every other attack damages the minotaur, and the first hit drains the hero of some life!! (AC 30 Bite is natural 1!, 36, 33, 34, 39, 35 Damage: 20, 18, 13, 19, 38 Vampiric Touch: with first successful hit: 12) Torgon's total damage is 120!
Obsidian seems beyond even the tactics of FerroKel. Bloodied but triumphant over the death of Rash, she directs her considerable strength against Kazak, who has dared to strike and wound the dragon. The darkness is no hindrance to her senses, and she lands every attack on Kazak except for a single claw! AC 45, 32miss, 46, 41, 46, 38 Damage: 25, 19, 18, 17, 36) Kazak's total damage is 115!
And Obsidian is still within the globe of Darkness!
While Torgon is still shaken by what he saw as a dragon flew at him, none of the other heroes are affected by the dragon's Presense because the dragons are invisible.

"Kill the Minotaur? why is it always kill the Minotaur? Why not kill the dwarf, or the spellcaster? But noooooo, it's always kill the minotaur." Torgon says in a half joking manner.
He realizes the fatal position he is now in, but sees no way out of it. Without a teleport or Dim door, the dragon(s) would be on him in a heartbeat should he try and leave. His limited healing abilities would just make the dragon use an extra swing to destroy him. It looks like his only prayer is to unleash upon Ferro-Kel, and hope the party is able to do enough damage to drop them both. Jurgen looks at Durgan and shrugs apologetically: "Let's do this". Even though the paladin can't see FerroKel, he flies forward in a haphazard charge with Durgan. The two of them are incapable of actually doing a charge attack on the dragon, so instead they start making their way up in order to get an actually attack off next round. [Towards Ferro 10 feet and up 25 feet, so that Durgan and Jurgen are next to and underneath the battle]
"Torgon, move five feet west! And I'm sorry for this, but I'm trying to save your life..." Jurgen says through the Message spell. And then he casts a Dispel Magic on the Minotaur. He targets the dispel specifically on Torgon's Flying and hopes that he is able to overcome the spell [Dispel Check - d20+10=25].
[What I'm trying to do is enable Torgon to move out of the dragon's attack range in a single round by removing the Fly. The dragon will still get an attack of opportunity, but it won't get a full attack. Hopefully!]

Xenia fires another arrow of acid at Obsidian which pierces the mists of darkness and strikes the dragon. The red-headed rogue sees the acid does nothing to the red dragon with black horns... she must be immune!
Trace takes aim on the dragon Obsidian and lets loose four arrows. Two shatter against draconic scales, one is lost in the Darkness, and only one finds the mark! (DM rolled miss chance due to darkness spell: 28 miss, 90 hit)
Torgon unleashes upon Ferro-kel, but is unable to pierce the draconic and magical protections!
Firn'gaer moves forward and casts disintegrate at Obsidian which misses due to the intervening Darkness! (DM rolled miss chance due to darkness spell: 18 miss)
Durgan taunts FerroKel, and gets ready to fly with Jurgen.
Peerimus changes into a Huge Air elemental and charges Obsidian. FerroKel reaches out with a tail swipe, smashing the druid-elemental. Obsidian also takes an opportunistic shot with her fangs, dealing more damage to the elemental. But the hurt doesn't deter Peerimus who connects with a slam into Obsidian. (DM rolled miss chance due to darkness spell: 78 hit) (Dragons have Blindsight which pinpoints target within 60' and so doesn't need miss chance)
- FerroKel AOO: 31 Dam: 32 v Peerimus - Obsidian AOO: 32 Dam 27 v Peerimus
The colossal Rocs can't see FerroKel, but can see Obsidian by the Glitterdust. The colossal animals hustle through the sky to get to the battle. (80' move doubled, they can't make it yet)
Kazak goes into his own "all or nothing " attack, striking Obsidian once with the Stone Sword of Turak Nor. (DM rolled miss chance due to darkness spell: 89 hit) With a final roar of anger and loss, the great dragon Obsidian folds her wings and plummets to the ground below. She crashes, and the body lies next to Rash, entwined in death!
Jurgen, with Durgan, begins to Fly up towards the battle. He calls for Torgon to make a little jink in the air, to which the tactical minded minotaur complies... and then the Protector hits Torgon with a targeted dispel magic! (ooc1: targeted, area, or counterspell only options. Counterspell is only as cast and Area will only dispel one random effect depending on decreasing level of spell. To have any chance on the Fly spell, Jurgen has to do a targeted effect.) (ooc2: Torgon's spell level is 9 so dispel is 11+9= 20 or better is dispelled. Going highest to lowest and alphabetically, it is...)
Torgon floats down to the mountainside below. FerroKel has terrific reflexes, for he takes a swipe at the descending minotaur, biting hard. (FerroKel Combat Reflexes AOO AC 45 Damage 24 to Torgon
............................
Obsidian!!! FerroKel cries out even though the dragon has yet to take a wound. He gazes with eyes that look like burning pools of lava at Torgon who has escaped his clutches and opens his mouth wide. A hurling maelstrom of ice blankets the area below FerroKel; freezing Torgon, Jurgen, and Durgan! 42 damage, Reflex DC 28 for 21
FerroKel does not hover where he is, but continues on. Those who can see the dragon (Firn'gaer, Torgon, Durgan) know he is flapping his great reptilian wings to the north. Gaining altitude, FerroKel flips over and prepares for another attack run...

Torgon manages to dodge part of Ferro-Kels blast, somehow nimbly dodging as he floats to earth. Unfortunately, as he floats to earth, he is floating as a limp and dead corpse.
The combination of dragon attacks, and the loss of the bonus HP granted by righteous might are just enough to finish the Minotaur.
As he moves on to the next Wold, his last look is at his village, confident that his death has bought the time needed for his friends to be able to save his people.
As he fast loses consciousness for the final time, he mumbles to himself "It's always kill the Minotaur...no wonder protectors never live long.."

The attacks from the dragon hurt, but not too bad. The benefit of being an Elder Elemental. Two Dead, the chaotice one on tactics have caught up with the group. Hopefully the survivors will have learned enough to prevent these things from occurring again. These two should have been little to no trouble.

OOC: Just recalled after lamenting my doom. Torgon has a ring of counterspells with dispel magic in it. May die anyway, but might give me a chance. Not sure if the DM wishes to backtrack/make corrections at this point. If Torgon is not dead, he will just move toward the nearest group of allies, and cast a 4th level healing on himself for 30hp. Sorry, completely forgot.
DM SteveK With so much going on in these battles, if something is forgot, then something is forgot. Don't worry, the COC have had plenty of good visitations to Gargul, and Torgon will be up on his hooves in just a couple of weeks. :-)

Xenia drops the first scroll to the ground and readies a second scroll to read. The dragon should be by any second. Xenia prepares herself to cast Glitterdust when she can identify the location of the Dragon.
Durgan shouts out, "He's comin around fer another pass!"
Kazak moves out of the darkness and readies himself to strike in his blind-fighting technique if the dragon fly's by. (ooc: need rolls to hit and damage and miss chance for the Readied attack, or DM will roll as best he can)
Firn'gaer, who can see FerroKel, sends a Chain LIghtning from Lhari, the intelligent staff of evocation which strikes the dragon fully. As Firn'gaer moves closer to his friends, Xenia takes this opportunity to Glitterdust a dragon. FerroKel easily overcomes any blindness problems, but he is much more easily seen!
Again Jurgen takes the full brunt of dragon breath, and the paladin is starting to get mad. Moving north (with Durgan) to get some space, he casts a Polymorph spell that transforms him into a Twelve-Headed Hydra. (ooc: Has Jurgen ever fought a Cryohydra before? If not, he can't become one.) The polymorphs heals him some damage.
Torgon manages to dodge part of Ferro-Kels blast, somehow nimbly dodging as he floats to earth. Unfortunately, as he floats to earth, he is floating as a limp and dead corpse. As the minotaur's body touches the ground, a chrysalis of multi-colored lights surrounds the body! Torgon's spirit finds that he is separated from the trickles of Woldsblood and can't pass on into the Realm of Shadows! If anyone looks, they can also see Rash's body is covered with a chrysalis of multi-colored lights!
Peerimus is happy he is a elder elemental and so is able to withstand some of FerroKel's attacks. Happier still he is with Firn'gaer and Xenia highlighting where the dragon is, and the druid cloaks the dragon with a Targeted Greater Dispel. He easily penetrates the dragon's Spell Resistance (DM rolled 32) and all magical auras wink out on the dragon! Spellcraft DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { dispelled Greater Invisibility, Displacement, Glitterdust, Mage Armor, and Shield}
The rocs can see a foe and drop down to attack (ooc: Each Roc gets a charge attack against FerroKel)
Trace does his best to spot the dragon but at last can see nothing. He then flies as fast as he can to where the others are.

"Your magic will not save you, wizards and slayers of hatchlings!", declares FerroKel. His eyes glow like coals right before he once again disappears from view! (Spellcraft DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {Quickened Greater Invisibility}. The sound of the dragons passage is felt as he whizzes through the Darkness and Peerimus feels the powerful claws rend his elemental body before the dragon continues south. Great power is extended through the claws, designed to weaken any opponents for the kill, but FerroKel miscalculates, and only hits once! "YOU ARE SO DUMB!" The rogue shakes her fist at the air. "WE SAID WE DIDN'T KILL NOTHING. WE DIDN'T MOVE YOUR STUPID MOUNTAIN, AND LOOK WHAT IT'S COST YOU. YOUR SHE-MATE-DRAGON-GIRL IS DEAD!"
Stupid idjit ...
What a senseless waste. From her pack, Xenia draws yet another scroll. This is it. Last one. Nothing left after this.
Again she awaits sign of attack. Hopefully, with this, they'll be able to kill down this dragon who's too dumb to know any sense at all. Hopefully. But at what cost? With the third eye of her mind, the girl rogue views the tragedy of their own two deaths. Momma Rash and the Mino Guy Torgie. That they're down there, not moving, and no one's gone to try and save them says that they're dead. The others should be feeling them through the tattoos. Feeling them gone. Feeling them dead. It's almost a good thing that her tattoo don't work no more. Too bad the lack of a tattoo doesn't stave off the feeling of emptiness inside.

[I honestly think that the first time Jurgen polymorphed Hydra, I was completely arbitrary about it and it had no basis in reality. I can take on another form if you'd prefer. Up to you.]
The flying, polymorphed, protected, odd sight of Jurgen follows right after Durgan [within 5-feet, of course]. While Jurgen can't see the dragon, he trusts the dwarf to lead the way. [Likely, Jurgen/Durgan will be using both of their actions to get to Ferro.]

Xenia cries out at the senseless waste of the battle, and draws her last scroll from her pack. Again, she awaits sign of attack with the Faerie Fire
Peerimus' Rocs attack and score one hit before they fade back to the Lands of Rest.
Peerimus remains where he is feeling all his options are exhausted, and casts Anti-Life shell.
Firn'gaer still has a few tricks up his sleeves. First, the wiard directs the Crushing Hand that is still standing by, and it immediately moves at the dragon. (ooc: no move limit to change targets, cool!) But the limits of the spell force the Hand just short of FerroKel! (ooc: 100' +10/level = 180'). Then, Firn'gaer sends an Cold Empowered Fireball at FerroKel. The big problem with that is FerroKel is part white dragon and part red dragon. He laughs as the energy flows over him, and is completely unaffected!
But the spell gives Xenia her chance, and she casts her scroll/spell. Unlike Glitterdust, Faerie Fire is affected by Spell Resistance, and the dragon again laughs at the pathetic attempt that lines the dragon in Faerie Fire! FerroKel roars in anger! (DM roll Spell Resistance: 21 nat 20!)
Durgan waits till Jurgen is ready, then flies straight towards the dragon as fast as the spell allows. The dwarf (and Paladin) are able to charge the Faerie Fired FerroKel and get a lick in! (move action 40 feet and with reach can hit FerroKel = roll for attack this round) The charge of the dwarf doesn't go without notice, and FerroKel bites Durgan as he approaches, missing.
Kazak waits and readies his blade to strike if FerroKel comes within reach.
Jurgen successfully polymorphs into a 10-headed normal Hydra and flies fast to the Faerie Fire'd FerroKel. Like Durgan, Jurgen is able to attack the dragon! FerroKel has fantastic reflexes and also bites at the approaching Paladin and striking with serrated teeth! (AOO: AC 42, HP 35)
[ooc: The PTB state that anything that has been encountered in the past or is able to be summoned by the spellcaster is approved for polymorphing. Well, I'm co-DM of this board! (At least for another month), and I will allow an appropriate Knowledge Check DC 10+HD to know enough about a basic monster to be able to polymorph (Hydra yes, Cryohydra no). This is similar to the Knowledge skill write-up in PHB to know useful things about a creature... SOOOO, Hydras are Magical Beasts, Jurgen has a +10 on Know Arcana (which covers magical beasts) and DM Roll on skill check is 20 = 10 --headed hydra.]
............................
FerroKel, outlined in Faerie Fire, ignores the slower flying heroes trying to make him stand and fight, and instead swoops down on the ranger, Trace. (Durgan and Jurgen get an AOO against FerroKel). Two claws lash out, powerfully driven by muscle and movement, and one bites deep into Trace's body, lifting him completely off the ground! Trace is now bleeding and grappled by the mighty FerroKel! (Power Attack +10, Flyby Attack, Spirited Charge: AC 37, 23miss Damage 25,23 = 48 damage to Trace, Grapple and Snatch: 58)
The red dragon with white crest labors higher into the air, gaining altitude and advantage before flipping his wings over and settling for another attack run. "I do not believe your whimpering protests, you lying monkies! One by one, I will slay your bodyguards, you puny wizards, and then it will be your turn! You will be a great example to all that you leave dragons alone!"

The rogue draws another scroll. With the dragon outlined in green faerie fire, the option opens for pinpoint aiming. Xenia gauges the speed of the flying dragon as she reads from the scroll and then stabs at a point in the air.
"STOP!" she cries, and a cloud of Solid Fog expands from the spot to envelop the dragon as Xenia moves south, hoping to catch the dragon as it's coming out of the fog.

Our Intrepid Paladin manages too think about Hydras enough to transform into one. Jurgen, unable to see anything to make his attack, growls as he is struck by the dragon. But Durgan gives him an opportunity for assault. The dwarf's attack hits, which means Jurgen has a rough approximation of where Ferro is and tries to strike with his newly aquired hydra-teeth.
Last Round Attack Attack Roll: d20+21=41 [Critical Threat. I complained too soon.] Critical Check: d20+21=41 Damage: 7 Critical Damage: 14 Miss Chance vs Total Concealment: d100=7 [I can't remember how we roll miss chances, so I'm just leaving the number with you and hoping for the best]
As Ferro flies off, Jurgen attempts the same tactic for his attack of opportunity. This time, not being able to see is a severe detriment to the assault.
Attack of Opportunity Attack Roll: d20+20=28
The paladin is fairly confused by Xenia's use of fog, but that doesn't stop him from flying towards it. Unfortunately, again, the Dynamic Duo of Durgan and Jurgen are unable to both attack and ascend sufficient distance and travel horizontally a sufficient distance. Instead, they just get up higher and closer to Ferro to catch him on his way by.

Firn'gaer moves 40-ft closer, and the Crushing Hand moves with the limits of the spell, hovering closer to the dragon, almost quivering in anticipation at grabbing something. Firn'gaer doesn' t seem perturbed by his failure of ice against FerroKel, and channels magical energy into Lhari... he has other options...
Xenia draws another scroll and casts a cloud of Solid Fog that envelops the dragon (ooc: no spell resistance)! The rogue then moves towards the fog, looking to catch FerroKel unawares.
Durgan is able to stick his sword at least a little into FerroKel as the dragon rushes by, but the fatigue is seriously hindering his ability to get into the fight!
Trace tries to escape from the dragon, but is caught tight. (ooc: Trace needs a Grapple or Escape Artist check of 54 or better to succeed in breaking FerroKel's grapple.)
Kazak flies up through Obsidian's darkness that is hanging in the air with the mid-point 40 feet up. The dwarf flies through, and readies a two-handed slash for FerroKel when he, hopefully, flies by.
Jurgen is easily able to see FerroKel since the dragon is outlined in Faerie Fire, and is able to bite the dragon once, hard, before it flies down and picks Trace up off the ground. The dynamic duo fly higher and closer to the dragon, hoping to get into another position to deliver more damage.
............................
FerroKel roars in frustration as the Solid Fog envelopes him in its passive but present thickness. All sight is blocked, and the heroes can no longer see FerroKel... or Trace in the dragon's claws. All can still hear the dragon, shouting about vile wizards and hatchling killers, and the labored beat of his wings as he tries to get out of the fog. And they can hear the rending of armor and flesh as the dragon takes his frustrations out on the Ranger.
FerroKel toys with Trace, casting a spell with a free claw and then tightening his grip a little, puncturing armor and letting the Vampiric Touch wash over the Ranger. (Grapple 55, Dam 25, Vampiric Touch 14, Trace takes 39 damage
"Can you feel that, little monkey? Can you see your hopes dying with your body? That your little bow is useless with my claws around you? That you are helpless?" The dragon laughs. "As helpless as your traitorous wizards!"

Xenia tells the others of her plan and gets ANOTHER scroll ready. Most of the Children agree, and the drow uses her scroll that blows away the fog in seconds! (ie A single round = full round. With Xenia casting spell after getting scroll out, the fog will stay for heroes round and FerroKel's round, allowing heroes to attack a non-fogged dragon next round. ) The wind blows, billowing the fog cloud! The heroes (wisely) fly around the Gust and do not get caught and tumbled through the air.
Peerimus converts his shapechange spell to a summon nature's ally 9 spell, and keeps still, protected in his AntiLife Shell while Summoning 2 elder arrowhawks. (ooc: Which will appear next round)

When the air clears, Elfie Trace ain't moving. Another Chaos Guy dead. Dead 'cause of these dragons. Dead 'cause they didn't try to kill them down right from the start. Maybe that's the way the Wold's gotta be. Kill them down before they kill you down. No questions. No hesitation. Sure. Maybe innocents get hurt. But that's the price you pay. If they aren't *your* innocents, if they're someone you don't know, then that's gotta be better than your own being killed.
Right?

Kazak's Freedom of Movement allows the dwarf to charge right through the Solid Fog and deliver a terrible blow to FerroKel! (ooc: last round attack)

Peerimus the elemental moves to Kazak and, reaching past his Antilife Shell, touches the dwarf with a spell (ooC; what spell?). The druid continues on to place himself under the dragon, hoping to be able to catch a falling ranger on the off chance the dragon lets go.

FerroKel is pummeled by Kazak, Jurgen and Durgan, and the very small amount of electricity by the Arrowhawk is the straw that breaks the camel's back. The mighty dragon's eyes glaze as he slumps forward, and CRASHES into the ground!

Without a word, Xenia nods to Kazak's nice words of appreciation. She flies down to the two shimmery cocoon type thingies, lighting on the ground, she stands above them.
"Dragons got good stuff," she says without lifting her eyes from the light of the chrysalises. "That's what they say, you know." She turns her face away, at last, wiping her eyes with the backs of her hands. "I'm ... I'm gonna go look for dragon stuff." Xenia floats away from the bodies of the fallen Chaos Guys. Stopping by the corpse of the red and white dragon she gives it a kick before flying off and entering the cave.

Peerimus moves down with Trace and lands. Shifting to human form he calls out towards Xenia, "Watch your step and take your time. Trace go with her as back up, there's nothing more happening out here."
Peerimus then moves over to Rash and Torgon, "Firngaer, I could use your help." When the gnome arrives at the Crysalyst encased bodies he simply asks, "Thoughts on what this is. Could the Land of Rest be barred somehow? With the dragons not in the same way, I would say it is only about us. Another connection to the Cube?"
He waits for Firngaer's input, the wizard having not only magically enhanced sight, but also a library of knowledge on just about everything outside of the natural world and this certainly qualified.
The Crysalis Opens (DMSteveK) Monday March 15th, 2010 1:02:59 AM
As the CoC land and investigate the caverns of FerroKel and Obsidian. Besides the one hatchling that Peerimus discovered, Xenia and the others eventually finds the nest, where five more dragon eggs have been brutally destroyed by falling rock. Coins and metal objects from spoons to decanters are cast about the nest, along with a couple of used spell scrolls and empty potion bottles.
Gathering everything together, the CoC are able to find 23,011 gp in coin and dented and squished metal plates, silverware, and decanters. Magic items on Obsidian and FerroKel include: FerroKel: Rod Obsidian: Ring, Feathered Headdress
When the heroes gather outside, the multicolored lights of the Crysalis flicker and are gone. The inert bodies of Rash and Torgon lay where they had fallen, and each hero can see a wisp like a vague shadow that is hanging by the body, attached by the barest thread of multicolored light.
Torgon and Rash, Highlight to display spoiler: { you each find yourself with a decision. You KNOW you can return to your body and immediately continue the struggle with Chaos and Law in the Wold, or you may cast off the last thread and join the trickles of Woldsblood that only you can see at this moment.}

Torgon thinks briefly of joining the Woldsblood, but that thought quickly pushes itself from his mind. He has too many responsibilities... to his people, his student, and his new friends. There is yet much to be done, and his help will be needed in doing it. It's just not his time.
Torgon wills his spirit back into his body, and tries to make it stand proud once more.
Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Monday March 15th, 2010 1:24:10 PM
The dark girl stands away from the two Chaos Guys folded in their shells of swirling colors. The reality of their deaths is too stark, too terrible to let into her mind right now. Yes, folks get killed down every day. Gordo was crushed under the weight of the orphanage, holding up the ceiling to make time for the kids to escape. Lang was killed down by the red dragon Hotshot. Folks die. Maybe she'd open her heart just that little bit more to feel the pain of their deaths. Maybe later. Not right now, though. Right now ... She just can't. Not right now.
Instead, Xenia frowns down at the crushed and malformed silverware. Her eyes turn to the dwarven brothers. Kazak. He's the Stone Guy. Maybe Durgen. Maybe he's a Forge-Metal Guy.
"Hey, um, Durgan. Any way you can fix this stuff?" She holds up a tankard by its bent handle. Its mouth is crushed shut and the glass at its bottom is broken out. I mean, all it's worth now is for the metal. Bet it would be worth much more if it was fixed, if you know what I mean."

Peerimus glances over the few pieces Xenia brought out, "Perhaps a mending spell could restore the original shapes to some of these." The druids heart is heavy, as it always was when comrades fell. But not overly so. Life unbound by the mortal shell possesses so much more possibility, the adventure continues the possibilities stretch out it is simply in a different direction. He could open the corridor, call them back, but would they hear him.
Peeerimus moves closer to the pair and examines them, were the truely dead or was some spell of stasis upon them? [Heal 25] .

Rash will cast an augury asking, "Would further exploration of the caves including the cave-in areas find us treasure and magic in excess of 10,000 gps (success rate is 87%)
Rash points at the dragons and asks Firn'gaer, "I know dragon hide can be valuable for armor and such. Can you use any of them for components or spell research?"
Rash will harvest the dragon claws from each dragon to make some jewelry out of. "Great conversation starter and wearing it tends to keep away the riff raff. At least the ones smart enough to realize what they are."
Rash heads back to the village saying, "I want a decent nights rest to recoup spells. (If the augury spell is yes, she will also add,) I also think we should dig out those cave ins. No sense leaving valuable loot behind after such a tough battle. I am sure our wizards can memorize some digging spells and we can summon elementals to help as well."
"Good thought, Momma Rash." The rogue eyes the mountain. Flying mountains. Can you beat that for crazy-dangerous?
"Hey, Peerimus! You think you should maybe make a fly around of that mountain? See that there's nothing else dangerous living on it? I mean, guess it's gonna be here a while now, you know? Not that there's likely anything big and dangerous living nearby two dragons with babies and no more sense than a white blouse at a barbecue."
"Better safe than sorry, though. If you know what I mean."
Xenia collects the things that she had scattered all over the mountainside before heading back to the mino village. Funny, though. Them coming from a mountain area only to land here after that Migration thing. Just when they're probs getting use to this place, the mountains start coming back.

Torgon thanks Rash for the healing, and now that he's feeling much better, he checks on his people. After making sure all are well, he starts making preparations for the moving and disposal of the dragons bodies. It wouldn't do to have two enormous rotting carcasses so near to the village, as they will likely attract the hungry.... there's also the smell.
The minotaur assumes that the CoC can plot our course from here while he tends to the needs of the village.

Looking at the dragons and listening to the discussions of skinning them Peerimus nods in agreement. "I agree on the dragon skins. I propose we give Torgon's village the carcasses. They surely have skill at skinning and all the necessary tools to do such. They could also make use of the meat and bone and so on. We have no time for such long endevours." Assuming the group agrees, Peerimus makes the offer to the elders. Each Dragon could yiled up to 3 Hide armor sets with a shield for a medium creature. That could fetch the village a good reputation and gold in this area.
Peerimus also agrees on a flight about the mountain. "In the Morning I will speak with Mother for a clearer picture of the area about Taur." [Commune with Nature 18 miles]

Scouting the Mountain (DMSteveK) d100=51 ; Thursday March 18th, 2010 10:12:17 PM
Rash gets a response for her augury: Woe.
Peerimus casts Commune and learns that the dragons pretty much kept thier mountain bare; there is no life of any kind on the mountain. In the surrounding 18 miles of Taur, the druid confirms there are no unnatural monsters close by. There seems to be the usual number of animals and woodland creatures in the area, with the exception of no major predators within 18 miles of the village. Looks like the minotaurs are the dominant predator of the area.
Scouting inside and around the mountain, the heroes learn that the treasure cave looks to have been bisected, in much the same way as the caves beneath Threshold, the rest of the dragons' hoard may be somewhere else. Or they may have only brought a portion of thier combined treasures to build a nest for the young and when they were old enough, they would abandon them. Who knows?
The Taur Village is happy with dragon meat, and it will keep them for a long, long time.
One thing is known to the Children of Chaos; it is evident that the Great Migration is getting ever more chaotic; and the event is now affecting the Chaos Tatoos themselves. The heroes are going to need some real answers before even more things begin to go awry!

I will be ready to go in the morning after prayers. I can cast wind walk on us and we will be able to move very fast in the direction we need to go. If we want to travel that way, I will pray to the powers for 2 of those spells, or maybe Peerimus can study for one of them."

After they, they'd go save the Wold and countless people in it. Once again. They'd save the Wold once again.

(ie they could teleport from the shore on the east of Gateway Downs to the Three Forks Inn on the west of Gateway Downs without a problem) - Teleportation can't work between regions. If someone tries to teleport beyond a region, they appear on the closest border of thier current region to thier intended destination. (ie it is possible with multiple teleports to teleport to the border, walk across, then teleport to the next border.) - At the Edge, there should be a gnome bard guide named Flik who can teach the CoC how to use the Edge's magical echoes to find thier answers.
Peerimus AC 24 HP 131/131 and Yorrick AC 37 HP 160/160 Friday March 19th, 2010 7:26:10 PM
The Feast is welcomed by Peerimus and Yorrick. The great bear attacks steak after steak with abandon. Over the meal, Peerimus listens to the others and tries to plot out what seems to be the fastest way to get to wherever the Edge realy is. "Wind walk is certainly a spell we will want to take a few of. I can take 6 others besides myslef and Yorrick and will prepare several. Rash if you do so likewise we should be able to travel quite effectively. I am also thinking we know who we are looking for and should be able to Discern his current location. Teleport with not cross borderes but would take us as far in the correct direction as possible. We could Teleport, then move for an hour and then teleport again and repeat." Looking to Rash and Firngaer, do we have the ability to prepare several location spells to find Flik? With this latest lesson in what is going on, time is not our ally."
Peerimus will also convey to the village of Taur what Mother revealed during his Commune. "Barring another similar event, you should be competely safe in the surrounding area."

Plans for Travelling the Southern Continent (DMSteveK) Monday March 22nd, 2010 11:04:03 AM
The minotaur feast has foods and drinks to satisfy every palate; those who do not wish to eat formerly intelligent meat has a cornucopia of other selections to include the tasty light brown, nutty paste from before. Water is available, and so is a small amount of ale, but the beverage of choice by the minotaur is wine. Light and airy like a zephyr, deep and tannic like a pine forest; fruity, bold, sweet, dry... they are all here.
Peerimus and Rash discuss the method for moving in the morning, and that moving faster is the better plan before the Great Migration becomes even more out-of-control than it is already!
That night, each hero dreams of a glade in a forest. A familiar centaur shaman stands before the hero, thrashing in the throes of a prophesy. His eyes open and the sound of multiple voices escape...
"Children of Chaos, hear our plea The signs are there for those who see Tower of Light with anger will leave Noble Race hammer and bow will cleave Gates be many, gates be none Before the Great Migration is done Yet beware the side that seeks not change For..."
In the morning, the COC can all compare notes, and realize they all had the exact same dream. It has been years since the centaur shaman repeated the prophesy, but it is burned again into each heaoes thoughts.
Teleports and Wind Walks seem to be the answer. The last step before moving out is who is going to supply the teleports and how many teleportation spells can the COC string together?
.......
ooc: Need some action by a PC that they are Teleporting "X" number of heroes in "Y" direction.
Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Monday March 22nd, 2010 3:53:32 PM
Another morning. Xenia sits up in her bedroll and stretches her arms to the sky in a languid yawn. What do you mean, the dragon wakes up? These letters emblazoned in dark block letters across her red cotton night shirt stand as ironic commentary on the battle the day before. Out the window, the sun rises over the new mountain.
The dark rogue rises and pads her way quietly to the river to bathe. Today, she would be ready. Today would be a day for work clothes, with her hair pulled up under her head-scarf, and her clothing all of the darkest black.
"Well, I'm glad you *know* what that was 'bout," Xenia says at breakfast, after the others fess up to having that same weerdo dream. "'Cause I was thinking I was coming down with a fever or sump'in."
The girl rogue packs up some of that brown paste stuff with a few round slabs of the flat bread. "So ... I'm thinking that the Tower of Light could be, maybe that Star Mages' thing we jumped off of, huh? Dunno 'bout the rest of it, though. Anybody wanna guess what the last line of the couplet was? What do you think huh? What word rhymes with 'change'?"
"'For you'll no doubt their face estrange?'" she hazards her own guess and then frowns. "I guess that's what I get from living with a bard for so long, huh?"

Peerimus smiles and then cannot help but snicker as he reads Xenia's shirt, "Rash we might have to get you one of those." he muses aloud. "I have been thinking on the teleports and perhaps we should use wind walk the entire way. It will move us very fast and give us the added advantage of seeing the terrain as we do. a birds eye view of the lands about us, at least to the south would be very useful, population centers and the like. We should be able to make nearly 600 miles in a single day and perhaps will be able to see the borders between the lands as we do." If no one insists on gereater teleport, Peerimus will cast Wind Walk sharing with Yorrick and granting the spell to Firngaer, Kazak and Torgon and Let Rash use another to take himself, Durgan, Jurgen, Trace and Xenia.
"Let's head south friends."

Firn'gaer contemplates the vision. He surmises that the group has deciphered the Tower of Light to be the Star Mage Guild and the hammer and bow to be the averted war between the dwarves and elves.
"I think the next line of the prophecy talks of the borders to the various lands. The gates refer to gate spells and the like, teleports and other forms of magical transport. But we shall see."
"It does not matter whether or not we teleport or use wind walk. The only thing we need concern ourselves with is time, which seems to be against us."

As they walk, Rash also ponders the poem which comes to them all. "Sounds like we will have at least one more battle to set this right."

Travelling the Southern Continent (DMSteveK) Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 11:58:46 AM
Peerimus suggests to use Windwalk throughout in order to see more of the land, but Torgon and Kazak both insist on using the fastest means possible; Teleportation. No one else seems to have really strong feelings on HOW the travel happens, and so the druid bows to the need of the others.
With speed a factor, there is no time for getting more arrows (the minotaur only have Large arrows available) or using spells on the image of the man (Firn'gaer knows it is not really the man, but only an after image like the spots in your eyes from looking at the sun too long).
The next morning, the COC are ready. The minotaur give a happy send off to the group, the Elders giving the blessing of Imod upon Torgon and his companions. "We must become a part of a greater society now that we are out of the mountains", says Tunderhof, "Torgon, you are blessed to have found such strong allies for our village, and we will share our strength in turn with thier peoples of these Gateway Downs. May Imod's Blessing give you strong arms and steady eyes. Go with Imod and the Powers."
Rash and Peerimus cast thier WindWalk on the heroes for travel between lands, and Rash and Firn'gaer have 4 Greater Teleports to get the heroes between at least 2 lands, and the Children of Chaos are off!
.................
Knowing that the Wind Walk will allow the COC to travel almost 600 miles in a single day, the COC heroes rise into the air and rapidly walk south on swift air currents.
The land of the Gateway Downs passes quickly beneath thier feet. They streak away from Taur and head south, the hills of the Grey Downs march up to the tall spires of the Grey Divide. Below, small trails and the great Trade Road move from Wayfarer through the hills, past the mine where the Oglian had made thier nest, and over the heads of a caravan of startled dwarf miners. Through the Grinning Pass speeds the COC, and they see Grey Divide's tall peaks are crowned with snow this morning.
Soon the COC are through the pass, and obviously at the border with another land. The edge is sharp, like a knife has cut it, and bits and pieces of land, snow, and vegetation are floating, teleporting, or twisting around in a chaotic soup.
The land to the south is full of jagged mountains and deep crevasses and go on as far as the heroes can see. Continuing the Windwalk for 15 minutes to ensure they are within the borders of this land, the geography hasn't changed. The only exception is a large lake amid a ring of mountains with smooth, water worn edges to the lake. There is no vegetation seen. Dungeoneering or Mining Skill Check DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { The lake, shore, and jagged mountains would look perfectly natural if it were underground. It looks like this entire land was picked up and flipped over! }
Rash and Firn'gaer cast Greater Teleport spells with destination being the Edge as described by Dafydd Weaver (back in Hook City).
The COC suddenly find themselves on the southern edge of the jagged mountain land. Only a couple miles to the south, a few minutes by Windwalk, has the heroes away from the jagged mountain land and over a brilliant blue water. The smell of salt and a lifting wind enables even the most ignorant to know this is not a fresh water body. The border between these lands is like that of the Gateway Downs, unstable and chaotic.
Like the mountains before, this water stretches as far a the heroes can see. Shallow waters surround atolls and coral reefs. Deeper blue waters attest to unexplored depths. This looks like an entire 'land' of water! As the heroes race over the water, a whirlpool a mile across opens up in a shallow sea. Water rushes in, and the COC can see the water pouring out onto some other land. This whirlpool ends in a gigantic teleportation circle! The lands are getting more and more unstable!
Rash and Firn'gaer cast Greater Teleport spells with destination being the Edge as described by Dafydd Weaver (back in Hook City).
And the COC are at the edge of yet another land and another unstable meeting of lands. They skim over the last few miles of water and soon are flying over a land of flat plains that are covered in tall, tall grasses. Over this land, the sun beats down, it is like sticking your head in an oven at the abrupt change from gentle sea breezes to the intolerable heat. All the COC except for Torgon know what land they have entered, and the minotaur is soon told. This is the Sargrass Plains!
Even using Windwalk, the COC know the heat will rapidly become intolerable, baking the heroes and heating metal armor until it is too hot to wear unless some magical means are used to protect themselves from the land of Sargrass.
There are no more Greater Teleports from Rash and Firn'gaer to use this day to rapidly get to the southern side of the Sargrass. It looks like the COC need to make other plans to either get to the other side this day, or camp for the night.
Xenia (AC29/, HP99/99) Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 3:49:43 PM
"Dwarves fightin' elves? What for?" The look on Xenia's dark face had been incredulous when Durgan answered his part of the riddle-verse. "I knew a dwarf name of Bralin Stoneminder once. Kinda crotchety sorta guy, but you knew underneath all that he was really very sweet. What do elves wanna fight with dwarves for?"
"Seeks not change, huh?" The rogue had pondered. "Seeks not change ... "
Now, after a day of flying through the clouds. No, not flying through the clouds, flying *as* a cloud. After a day of traveling the sky high over the Wold, and porting here and there through lands she'd never even imagined before, the arrive in a familiar place.
"Hey! It's that Grass Place!" The dark rogue begins a systematic sweep of all four quadrants about the traveling Chaos Guys. "Wonder if we can find the dome of them Blood Packies. Be nice to get together with Tishe again. And I'd like to ask them drow more 'bout where I can go about finding a drow stronghold."

"Mebbe on the way back girl, I think we're in a hurry this time." Durgan thinks about the water pouring onto some hapless land, and shudders thinking about what people may have been there. "As fer the elves and dwarves, they never did need much more than a nudge ta be after each other, but I think we got em ta work it out this time."
"So I guess we'll hafta rest before moving on eh? Now I see why they say magic is all powerful, and yet very limited all at the same time. It reassures this dwarf's heart ta know that there is still need fer a good axe in this Wold."
Firn'gaer Arcane Sight, Detect Magic, Endure Elements, Overland Flight, See Invisibility, Read Magic, SR18 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 6:29:49 PM
Firn'gaer is in awe of the shear magnitude of the chaotic changes occurring to the Southern Continent. "Magnificent!" is about all that he can come up with as he looks at the Wold turned on its head and in particular the great vortex.
When they arrive at the stifling heat of the Sawgrass, Firn'gaer says "I think I rather prefer the cool ocean breeze."
"Very limited? How do you consider it limiting when we have travel in hours what should take months? And perhaps your good axe will cleave us some place to get out of the heat." He sharply snaps back at the dwarf. "You might as well have called me an apprentice." Says the Archmage. "Would you feel the same if I were to say that your skill in battle was no better than that of a goblin with a dull stick." He says rather insulted by the statement.
"Can someone find us a suitable place to camp, and my limited ability will conjure us a place to stay until tomorrow." He says in the direction of Peerimus and Trace.
"For... could be reference to Formians. That would be a side that would be against any change. But what the rest of the phrase could be, I do not know."

More disturbed then he could possibly let on, Peerimus surveys the lands beneath them as they fly on. Father, where are you? The lands beneath him almost cry out for salvation and more than once thedruid could swear he can actually hear the Wold's agonized cries. More disconcerting to him is the knowledge that he was directly responsible for it. As a cloud like vapor, Peerimus drifts closer to his mighty friend Yorrick wishing more than any other time that he could feel the rough fur of his friends back. For now, though, he cannot take comfort in it.
The land beneath, becomes the Sawgrass Plains and Peerimus is keenly aware that most of his friends will be in dire straights very soon. He immediately begins searching, casting about with highly trained and sharp eyes for somewhere they might be able to make a stand against the blistering unrelenting heat. [Spot 40]
"It's the Sawgrass Firngaer, there very well might not BE a place any better than another. Our last forrays here did not show much promise." He continues scanning, "We might have to simply put down and see what your limited magic can do." The last said with slight mirth and then an idea occurs to him, "Rash. You still have the miracle spell correct? We could land and you could create another great mansion like we used to secure ourselves from the Oglians."

Stopover in the Sargrass (DMSteveK) Wednesday March 24th, 2010 10:04:16 AM
The flight in one day through four different lands is awesome and enlightening. The COC see the effects of the continuing Migration and begin to get even more worried. Peerimus especially is feeling the blame for the mess; after all, the COC started it. This has to stop, and stop soon!
Sharp eyes look around the Sargrass Plains, and can only spot a colony of Blind Prarie Swallows nearby and a lone Ranthom eating its way through the tall Sargrass in the distance.
Durgan comments on the limitations of magic that gives him some comfort, but puts Firn'gaer's back up. Without a site of civilization and before tempers get as hot as the Plains, Peerimus calls for a rest for the night. Rash considers and rejects any spartan conditions and whistles up a Magnificent Mansion for the COC to spend the night in cool luxury.
The current plan is to continue on tomorrow. She'll go back for him, the rogue decides. Once the Chaos Guys have figured this Migration thing out. She'd go back and tell him about this Southland. They could explore together. That's what she'd do. He'd like it here. Sure he would.

She was going to scry her own family that night to check in but takes the drow by the hand and sits her down, "Xenia, I can try to find Wynn trough scrying and at least let you see him but if he is as strong willed as you are, the spell might not work. Do you have his picture or better yet a lock of his hair?
Rash will listen to Xenia describe her Wynn to her and then try a greater scrying on the bard. (not sure what kind of pluses or minuses I get but good chance this won't work)
Rash the next day arises and prays for her spells, ready to recast the windwalk and teleport. "Finding this Flik person might be tougher than you think? I have a discern location spell but without some prior knowledge of him, it doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?"
